Maybe Emps failed their don't-be-a-lil-shit roll

And since squid buddy didn't uh....want to repeat the fight response like with Ansur, for various reasons, reacted with flight instead

Funny story, I drew this a while back as a 'fun' theoretical possibility, but been realizing more recently ehhhhh-Emps really coulda just killed us all right then and there (not withstanding Halsin and Jaheira). If Emps had the ability to turn off the mind-protection after you stray too far from the mission, then they coulda done the same thing to everyone now. So if Emps really had a "no more use for us" mindset like a certain mindflayer book says they do, fleeing wasn't necessarily the only way for Emps to survive.

I feel like Stellar is the only one whom Shadow would willingly trade places with if captured, especially if it involved being turned into a weapon again. I wonder how she would react in that situation, especially if she had to fight him.

Oh, Shadow would do almost anything for Stellar. It kind of terrifies him how much he cares about her—he hasn't loved someone so openly and freely since Maria. The idea of losing her is a constant fear for him, and he's very, very protective of her. Of course, everything comes to light when Eggman discovers Stellar's true nature and wants to use her dormant powers for his own gain. In an effort to draw out the latent power inside of her, he kidnaps her and uses her like a battery for one of his machines. This backfires, as his attempts to draw energy out of Stellar causes her inhibitors to shatter, resulting in a fountain of chaos energy being released. By the time Sonic and Shadow arrive to rescue her, Eggman has unleashed something he can't handle. After all, Stellar has had no practice utilizing her chaos powers outside of what Shadow was willing to teach her, meaning she has little to no control over the massive amounts of energy inside her. She becomes a walking weapon of chaos energy until Sonic and Shadow can manage to snap her out of it.

Once Stellar came to, she was a weak and sobbing mess. She would be so scared and distraught, unable to do much else other than cry and apologize. She would feel horrible for hurting both of them while she wasn't in control of herself, and she'd suddenly find herself afraid of what she was capable of.
