when I first acknowledged about dinluke some months ago on Pinterest I never thought I would love it as much as I do now. And I never thought I would return to Star Wars because of this ship after the (personally) great disappointment of TLJ.

like, it was one normal day scrolling through my messy Pinterest page looking for some cool shit, and I met baby Yoda. I knew about him, he's pretty famous on the Internet; saw him on some memes, he was on Twitter trending some time ago, that one artist I like drew him once,...And I scrolled down 2 more centimeters and saw a dinluke fanart with baby Yoda in it. At first, I was oh so confused. Like , is that Luke? When did Luke and baby Yoda met? And who's that person with him? Wait a sec is this..."romantic" vibe I'm seeing right here? Who in the world would ship Luke Skywalker with this weird...um, "silver helmet armored person"? Didn't he have a wife named Mara Jade in Legends? What about the Sequels? Because I left Star Wars since TLJ, I didn't know a shit about The Mandalorian, just baby Yoda being kinda famous.

But man, I just got a little curious ya know, wanted to figure out where the heck did this ship emerged from (and if it's gay or not lol ). So I clicked the image and the next thing I saw was a bunch of dinluke fanarts - totally quality contents spreading through my PC screen. So I got MORE curious and clicked several more images until I reached that one short comic by ngrogu. (you know, the one that is still residing at the top of the dinluke tag? about war trauma angst? yea that one. I still friggin love it.) I thought it was interesting, so I went strait to the Tumblr link to read it in full context. In which the link leaded me directly to the top section of dinluke tag. AND HOLY MILKING SITH I WAS MOTHERFUCKIN SURPRISED WITH SOOOOOO MANY DINLUKE CONTENTS HITTING MY EYES. And it was also here that I learned-- " wait is that Luke? Is it him in that huge black hood? oh it is... wait a sec I don't remember any scene like this in the originals ...does that mean Luke Skywalker returns on screen?-wait, no that's impossible , is this some kind of high quality fan made thingy then?-*sees tags*- HOLY SHIT LUKE SKYWALKER RETURNS ON SCREEN IN SS2 OF THE MANDALORIAN??????? HOW DO I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS!!!!!?????? "-- and then I went to Youtube, watched the hallway massacre, took in some deep breaths("HOLY FUCK, HOLY FORCE, HOLY FUCKIN SON OF THE FORCE"), return to Tumblr to scroll down from the top of dinluke tag to read and see almost every content of dinluke I can until my PC got too slow. After that I decided to watch every episode of The Mandalorian there are to exist.

---And here I am , after months of falling deeper and deeper and DEEPER into dinluke. After months of checking Tumblr everyday just to see new dinluke stuff. After months of reading dinluke fics into the midnight hours. I have realized that I have never loved and adored an OTP this much. Or maybe it was the first OTP I have ever had. I can't count how many times I have imagined my "Sequel trilogy rewrite ~feat dinluke " fic in my head . I can't stop praying for the ship to be cannon although I definitely know and UNDERSTAND that dinluke can possibly never be cannon. I got so mc'fuckin frightened when there was a rumor on Youtube that says Mara Jade will be making an appearance on the Luke Skywalker show that Dave Filoni is planning to make- if this was before knowing dinluke, I would joy, joy that Star Wars is finally back . But this crack ship, dinluke, has changed me.

It had changed me with the template Star Wars found family trope, but this time with "an absolutely powerful and pretty space magic wizard sunshine twink" on one side and "a space Viking single dad who is also a fierce bounty hunter but actually introverted himbo" on the other side with "a green cute gremlin baby alien son with magic powers who has became an Internet celeb" in the middle; with it's absurdly immense potential (ancient enemies, the last of their kind/tribe, Luke "daddy issuse" Skywalker and Din"single dad"Djarin,..etc,etc...) ; along with it's incredibly talented writers and artists all over Tumblr and ao3.

I had fallen in love with this one hell of a ship and I'm in agony everyday just thinking about this ship.

i’m a survivor too, and i found that certain scenes/stuff will said just really struck me as ‘csa-survivor’-like? i felt a bit uncomfortable about headcanoning it happening to someone else, especially for a fandom as wild as this one, but your metas have really been a comfort to me because they’ve been able to pick out and explain things that i couldn’t necessarily find the words for myself.

and yeah, i would love to have a character like me that is powerful and who finds love and who gets a happy ending. the people who call the theory disgusting always kinda hit wrong with me because although csa is a difficult subject, we shouldn’t be ashamed about sharing it. they sound like they’re trying to say that it’s a bad topic to talk about and implying that it can’t happen to kids, which uhhhhh-

(i’m sure that’s not what they mean, precisely, but it’s still what they sound like, and i wish that they would stop implying that we can’t exist, especially in popular media. we do, and i’m not gonna pretend we don’t, and if they feel uncomfortable with the topic they can just use the block button. we deserve to have some well written representation just as much as anyone else. also, i really really hope that will gets a happy ending.)

SORRY, this ask took so long to respond to. It always warms my heart to hear other survivors speak and say they found comfort in my theory.

Yes, I think I and a lot of c*a/r*pe victims (subconscious or otherwise) were triggered by some of the symbolism/visuals in s1-3. And s3 made it hard for most of us to ignore the past imagery- since s3 wasn’t as subtle.

I get why people have reservations about the theory. But the debates to the contrary are usually just plain offensive. Or people trying to be respectful but being the opposite. There’s the obvious bad-apples . I got many anons after part 1 of my DID theory saying it “ruined/tainted byler”, and “if that happened to Will i’ll stop shipping byler” , or that it “ruins the best gay character” , and to “remove the post immediately”. And this was when I was open about being a gay c*a victim. I obviously blocked them. Many survivors don’t come forward because they’re afraid people will see them as “tainted”, “ruined”, “ just their trauma”, or blame them for what happened. So yeah, it pisses me off when people say similar stuff about Will (and thus other c*a victims). Not even diving into the messed up psychology about byler/mileven shippers (knowing i was a lesbian c*a victim) but purposely spreading bs rumors about me being a p*do that was into Will/Noah-all because of the theory. -_-

Then there’s the people who try to be “respectful” but literally do the opposite.

I’ve heard numerous times it’s somehow “less offensive” to just use r*pe imagery to make monsters scary. Rather than have the monsters have that imagery cause Will created the monsters from his memory/imagination-and st is a story of Will healing from that trauma. SORRY- I disagree. Using the worst experiences of peoples’ lives (and triggering their trauma) for no real purpose- except to make their monsters scarier to the normal/general audience who haven’t gone through it so won’t be triggered like us - is MORE OFFENSIVE to victims! NOT LESS! At least to me.

Then there’s the people who say “c*a should never be talked about (in stories).” Which I disagree with. V*ctims have already been told by ab*ser’s and enablers of the ab*ser- to never talk about what happened to us . So it rubs A LOT of us the wrong way when people say this. Because (subconscious or not) you remind some of us of the people who used to hurt/silence us. People say this -simply for their convenience (like ab*sers) and cause deep down they’re uncomfortable with our existence and equate the despicable act to us the innocent v*ctim ...or just want to deny the horrible reality of the situation (like many enablers who deny the truth and hurt us because they don’t want to accept reality) . And 1) It brings us back to a time where they told us to NEVER talk about it- and makes us feel like we did something wrong when we didn’t! 2) Every psych professional says with-holding/keeping the ab*se a secret is detrimental to our mental health.

Plus, there’s a HUGE difference between sugarcoating/minimizing trauma or WORSE glamorizing, condoning, or romanticizing C*A in stories (ex: pretty little liars) VS showing how the action is wrong, causes trauma, but showing recovery and happiness is still possible for v*ctims. if the story shows how accurately traumatizing it is (instead of minimizing/glamorizing it)- it’s incredibly rare for that character to get a happy ending. Having a story about recovering from that type of trauma and finding happiness despite such hardships would be amazing for US survivors! We rarely get stories with a happy ending- it’s more harmful to us survivors to never see ourselves get happy endings in tv/film/books. How can some survivors (in a dark place) think there’s a light at the end of the tunnel- if it’s never shown?Also if Will has DID too- it’s good mental health rep, along with queer rep (and survivor’s rep.) All 3 groups rarely are treated well or get happy endings in media. A lot of people may feel more heard, seen, and a bit more hopeful for the future - If Will (and other characters) get a happy ending.

And even though st has many themes- like say homophobia. To try and hand-wave all the disturbing r*pe imagery away as ‘Will is just gay so the monsters are like that”. IS SOOOOOO offensive. Trigger warning for examples. I’m sorry what part of Max saying when Billy had c*nsensual s*x it’s “good screams” but when possessed by the mf he causes Heather to do “bad screams” read as gay???! Having the possessed ch*ke/dr*g people before throwing them in trunks (like it’s implied Lonnie did to Will -since Jonathan checked Lonnie’s trunk for Will in s1)?Tying their arms and legs up/ g*ging them and getting on top of them and saying “stay VERY still it’ll all be over soon”-before a monster shoves it’s tentacle into someone’s mouth and inserts a goo - just gay??? Similar to the sentient vine/shadow monster forcing itself down Will’s throat. Let alone Will saying things like “he made me do it”, “i felt it everywhere”, or being tied to a bed and screaming “help! stop! it hurts! let me go!” While Jonathan is the only one who’s visibly triggered by this and has to literally turn away and hug someone . Or barb, billy, and El spiting up a white liquid from their mouth (similar to will spitting up a slug and lying to his mother about it ).El/billy touching a suspicious looking slime with their hand and looking at the substance confused . El drawing Papa with 3 legs (the middle one being shorter) , trying to undress in front of the boys , and Benny saying “I think she’s been ab*sed or something”.The theme of ab*sive dads- brenner , Lonnie, and Neil . Even when the demogorgan (called in d&d the “deep father”/ in the show “a man without a face”) attacked Barb it’s chopped up with scenes of Nancy having c*nsensual sex (the monsters are doing the opposite symbolically). There’s way more examples but NO- to try and hand wave /equate ALL OF THIS to just “gay imagery” or an “a*ds metaphor” is WAY more problematic. And just offensive (specifically to gay people) than just admitting what it may actually represent. R*pe imagery and gay imagery is NOT THE SAME THING!

Also ST has never been a kid show- maybe rewatch the show and see the rating of tv-14 . Goodness sake- s1 has a st*ged su*icde, k*dnappings, m*rder, discussions of physics, h*mophobia, and s*x (with stancy in s1 & jancy in s2-s3). S2/3 discuss at their finalies recovering from tra*ma . S2 had gra*ic de*ths, a man causing a women br*in damage/ and faking her m*scarriage, and a gang of vigalantes k*lling criminals. s3 had critiques on capitalism /media/s*xism, many d*eaths, and questionable imagery like the prior seasons. The Duffers constantly reference movies & events from the 80s (capitalizing on 80s nostalgia /subverting 80s motifs that middle age people from that time remember)! Those people were their intended age demographic . Most 80s centric refs go over most kids’ heads (heck a lot went over my head too since I wasn’t alive in the 80s XD).The Duffers even said in the book “worlds turned upsidedown” “it’s not a kid’s show despite having kids”. And maybe it’s a coincidence but when Lucas in s3 hands Will the “devil’s baby” firework (a hint about Lonnie) he says “18 and over only.” Which idk is a weird/random af line unless it’s foreshadowing that the show will get darker about various themes- and maybe even change ratings.

I get people wishing nothing bad ever happened to Will or Jonathan. And being apprehensive and not trusting the Duffers to do such a story justice (cause it’s difficult to do). But personally i trust them to do so tastefully with tact and not be exp*itative, (overly gr*fic) or offensive to v*ctims. You can disagree and think the show is about something else (or not trust the Duffers)- but it’d be great if people could stop using these other messed up talking points. While trying to appear ‘(fake) woke’ and like they care for victims- cause we see through it that you really don’t.

Genuinely wondering. Why do you think using the name lady noir(e) is rude to the Fandom? I know you're kind of over this subject so you don't have to answer

(I haven’t actually answered this question yet so you’re gucci c: )

So, and I forgot to mention it today because I didn’t scroll through for posts to reblog (whoops), but as of today we’ve had the show for 4 whole years! 4 years of Ladybug and Chat Noir saving the day. (Approximately a little less time for the fandom to take hold, but I’ll say about October 2015 with the French premiere was when the fandom really got going.)

Obviously the romance is a major focus of the show, so tumblr immediately had to get going with the tags. People quickly realized that the love square had different dynamics on each side, and came up with something for each part. Some pieces took time to workshop; during the early fandom I heard “Adrienbug” or “Chatmari,” and I think to this day we’re not completely sure what we prefer with “Adrienette.”

But if there was one ship name we nailed, it was “Ladynoir.” Of the four, this could easily be seen as the “main” ship of the show, as it is first and foremost a superhero show (so they’re always transformed at some point) and even at the beginning we saw their cute banter. I considered it so dominant, in fact, that my original tag for shippy content was just “ladynoir” even when I just meant any aspect of the love square. (A tag I gave up on when, yknow, I realized that the whole show was one big romance)

So in interacting with the fandom all these years, the staff knew well that we called one of the ships “Ladynoir.” Heck, they’ve been known to tease us on Twitter with “you guys will be happy with the Adrienette in this episode :)”, etc. This isn’t a fandom secret or something.

Now, I don’t know how long ZAG has been planning a kwami swap. It’s been a popular fan idea about as long as the show’s been on, certainly it had also been tossed around the writers room. But I don’t think they could have feasibly designed them before October 2015.

Even if they had? There would be 4 years before the episode actually hit screens. All the time that it takes to make an episode, from writing room floor to animation to dubbing, takes months. On a smaller time frame, say they designed Lady Noire and Mister Bug when they first started writing season 3, and sent out the doll designs immediately so the merch could get a head start; there were months between then and the script getting sent in for animation. Anybody with even a little fandom exposure could’ve said “yeah what if we tried a different name?” and workshopped it a bit before the lip flap animations were locked in.

They shouldn’t lock in bad ideas before sending them to animators, and in fact, we know they don’t: Nora was named “Nancy” in her first sketches, Queen Bee’s leaked design had a purse instead of the top, and don’t forget Zag leaked the season 2 powerups as a big reveal for the season… and it turned out they’d tossed the pearl idea and went with the potions. Things can and should change to make sure only the best ideas go in the episodes.

But all of that means that, way back when we first found out about the swap names, it was likely early enough that they hadn’t even gotten to animating Reflekdoll. (The fact that we’re not getting this episode until this week, despite having it in production for about a year, means they had plenty of time to change.)

Now, after typing and researching all of this, I’ve come to a realization: maybe ZAG did it instead as an homage to the ship name. The writers can definitely see our fandom, and the idea that they actually saw something from us and wanted to shout it out is kind of flattering. We can ask Thomas more about this in a couple days after the episode has aired.

Why I don’t want her to be Lady Noire? Because having a character take the exact name of a ship only serves to screw up tags. Fans group and find fanworks by ship name tags, and having something completely different come in and take the tag only confuses everyone. I mean, cartoon-makers are very familiar with the phenomenon: they have to strive to give characters and shows unique names so they stand out among other properties. It’s one of the reasons we get ‘Cat Noir’ instead of just ‘Black Cat.’ And for some of the creators being so active in the fandom, they know we love our tags and ship names. They should know better than to pick something so now we have confusion between the Ladynoir ship and Marinette with the black cat.

Anyway. They’ve had a lot of time for the backlash to set in, so maybe for the finalized ep they did go with different names. Heck, maybe this is why the ep took so long to make and kept getting pushed back – like I know there are some new models here, but not that many more than a typical new ep, right? Especially since Reflekta’s power is legit just “reuse Reflekta’s model.” Maybe, just maybe, renaming the hero(es) meant they had to go back and get the animators to change every instance that they mentioned the names (probably a good few times in the ep). Super unlikely but, as always, I can dream.

I just wrote more for this than I’ve often written for school assignments, soooooo I hope that answers the question. lol. and happy birthday ML!

aw love the tag and love your answers, @hazzabeeforlou and @disgruntledkittenface! This is the kind of thing I really enjoy for learning about people.

1. What is your favorite word? I don’t have one super favorite word, but I really like the word susurrus or even better susurration a heck of a lot because can you imagine a word that is more ASMR and sounds like what it means (rustling, whispering, like the wind through trees)? I also really like the mouthfeel of the words empathic and the word glorious and similarly, the word gorgeous. And here is my queer side coming out, in the right (body positive, queer, or even UK-style insulting, but not US-style misogyny) context I really like the term cunt.

2. What is your least favorite word? You know I don’t really dislike any word but I don’t super enjoy nipple, lol.

3. What turns you on? oh competency for sure. Egoless intellectual passion of the sort where people forget to even think about themselves because they’re so intrigued by something. And just joyful people? ANYONE WHO CAN REALLY MAKE ME LAUGH

4. What turns you off? Being cruel, and most especially that kind of manipulative “I’m smarter than you” power play that a lot of guys do because, fuck that. Have lived through too many people trying to make me feel stupid to ever tolerate that or find it anything but pathetic.

5. What sound or noise do you love? My girl playing guitar, the birds outside of our window every morning, the tide, the quiet whishing noise of our heater being on, the noise of a sewing machine, and the swoosh-swoosh of walking around my apartment in my new wedding dress :)))))))) which I don’t know if I’ll get to wear in the way and at the time I had planned but. Small steps right now.

6. What sound or noise do you hate? Loud car and motorcycle engines, and omfg the worst noise in my world is a really high pitched electrical squeal. I have very very sensitive high frequency hearing and I hear this from a thousand lights and plugs all the time and I hate it.

7. What is your favorite curse word? Huh I dunno actually....I really like goddamn especially as an expression of awe and wonder haha or like “these goddamn feelings”

8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Writer obviously :D 9. What profession would you not like to do? SOOOOOO many jobs I don’t want. I mean I am grateful to not be in a physically destructive job like so many on this planet. In terms of like, white collar jobs I could do but don’t want, a lot of stuff related to pharmaceutical exploitation or environmental damage

Man I hope to see so many new stuff in BotW 2! I want to see how much Hyrule has changed, some towns reconstructed and some in restoration, the villages from last game updated and biger like Hateno Village, new weapons & armors, sidequests and interact more with the people and the enviroment. And having Wolf Link as your partner again.

There really is no telling where this game is gonna go!

the thing that gets me is if its gonna be a full game or a massive expansion to BOTW.

from what we saw in the trailer it looks to be using the exact same assets from BOTW. lighting, rendering, character models heck even down to Links hood and tunic are the same.

aside from the cinematic lighting effects Its just straight up BOTW 2.0 (well duh Amos, that’s exactly what the game is trying to be)

Not that I have a problem with any of that, MM ran nearly entirely off of OOTs assets and was a fantastic game!

But it just raises the question of how or what in Hyrule is gonna change?

It cant be exactly the same even if Nintendo wanted to be that lazy, but the landscape cant change much either without it being an entirely different Hyrule.

so that namely falls to new towns new locations and just new stuff in general.

Just like you said, I would love more towns and villages to visit. and there are plenty of ruined areas that could be rebuilt.

But Pleas PLEASE PLEASE more than anything give me BOTW castle town!!!

We have only had 2 Castle towns in the series that being OOT and TP, and I crave to see a new version of it!

also Wolf Link tagging along still would be the most awesome thing. even more awesome if it was TP Link himself *shameless promotion noises*

But I still can’t quite get my thoughts together on this topic. There is just sooOOOO much I want in the next game and Nintendo usually does their best to meet expatiation so I don’t want to make a ridiculous wish list to over hype me on this game.

Again I really wish I hadn’t known about this because its all I’m gonna be able to think about till the next info dump we get on the subject.

I have 2 apprentices I will use, siblings named Ajii and Ra.

Ajii’s order

1. Asra: Asra reminds him of clouds, the setting sun, and just all things colorful and majestic. He also likes the contrast of how small he is to how tall Ajii is. Asra likes that they can go on adventures and meet different people and see different things. He seems to like that in him. Oh also...the fact that Asra is dominant or more of verse because Ajii is a leaning bottom so heh. He just has the most fun with him! 11/10

2. Portia: Oh what a cutie! She actually caught him and could hold him up. Keeper. Blushing so hard and he is a 6′7 tall ass man with someone who is 5′1 making him blush so freaking hard. He loves picking her up sometimes too. Also the cuddles are the best I can tell. And the kissing about how she either climbs up or he has to bend alllll the way down. 10/10

3. Nadia: Oh ho...he honestly could not pass up being able to go on a date with one of the most beautiful women for miles and miles. Also she has such great fashion sense and she would probably want to dress up. Also he loves a dominant. Periodt. So the sex between them I can tell would be amazing. Now she’s number 3 because he thinks that he may overwhelm her. He comes and goes a lot and doesnt stay in one place. She needs someone more serious and by her side so believe me when I say he and her would be more of a fling but an intense one.

4. Muriel: He does like Muriel but he feels he is probably going to annoy the heck out of him. He can talk quite a lot and be very touchy and Muriel needs love and gentleness. so nooooooooooooooo but good friends yes. Ajii can be an amazing friend and help with animals. He can speak to animals so honestly hanging with Muriel and Inanna and the chickens would be pretty dope.

5. Julian: okay hear me out. Julian and Ajii would be the two biggest dorks on the planet and real best friends. So not lovers just real good friends. get drunk together, tease people, dare each other to do dumb stuff like jump out a window. Yes Ajii is just like Julian okay? I didn’t know this honestly.

6. Lucio: Ummmmmmm he doesn’t hate him but his sister’s happiness is one thing that matters to him and him being with Lucio would piss her off so much. Also he isn’t much different from Lucio, he would probably coax Lucio on so they wouldn’t be good for each other. Ajii is a mess, Lucio is a ghost mess. No no no. Also ajii is a necromancer soooooo.

Ra. I’ll make this one short since Ajii’s was long and she told me she doesn’t need a long explanation.

1. Nadia: Obviously because she is gorgeous, her personality is exquisite. She is like a fine wine, can drink anyone under the table, and will challenge me. I love the challenge. Nadia is a feast that I will happily dine on every night, or morning.

2. Muriel: I wanna be by his side. I have battle scars from many times I have fought and killed to protect my family. I love my family and friends and will do anything to protect them. Also...him telling me about his past just made him so relatable and I never wanna leave him. I love his animals too and my crocodiles have grown a fondness for the forest.

3. Portia: So freaking adorable!!!!!!!!!!!! I love her she is so cute, fun, and I love her cat, and house, and garden, and how much she cares. Oh and she cant hit Valdemar with a chair!

4. Julian: So much like my brother but cute cute. I’ll get drunk with him a lot and get real handsy. I can see me with him for a little while but not a long time.

5. Asra: Okay so the secrets and all that. no. no no no I can’t I’ve been there before and I can’t. All honesty or leave.

6. Lucio: Do i have to say why? I’m with his ex. He hurt Muriel. I just don’t like him but if anyone wants to date him then by all means. He seems like he would be fun but for a little while. Also that arm. Need to try once.

Hey, guys! :D

Con season is here again! Whoot!

We’re all gearing up for tons of videos and content from all our favorites, and those lucky enough among us to attend the current and upcoming events will have a blast getting autographs and souvenirs and pictures and all the amazing stuffs.

Given some of what has gone down in a few fandoms recently, and even at a few cons in the past, there are three quick things we all need to remember in these exciting times.

1. Comic-Con is fun!! It’s a flipping gift?? Like, how lucky are the nerds of this era?? including all the smaller cons as well, but everyone knows Comic-Con so I’m going to let it be the head of this.

It’s incredible that we have a culture that appreciates and supports our geekiness. It’s amazing that we can all gather under one roof to support and appreciate the things we love and so often don’t get to connect with outside of a computer screen. But now there are cosplays and life-size TARDIS machines (oh yeah, and con-flu but let’s not go there lol).

There is soooooo much to see and do at these events. If there is a person or fandom or faction present that makes you unhappy, just ignore them and focus on enjoying your time, rather than wasting it on anything that doesn’t excite you. Inhale the good and exhale the bad. :) Whatever you do for this con season, do it in the spirit of fun and appreciation - it’s literally why Comic-Con exists.

2. Everybody at the Con is a human person like you.

From fellow fans to the creators we come together to celebrate, everybody at the cons and featured in the interviews and panel discussions are human beings, regardless of background, creed, Hogwarts House affiliation, or OTP. Doesn’t mean we’re all going to get along all the time, but we should always work hard to be civil to each other, especially to the content creators who make it all possible, and especially during a con.

Writers, artists, actors, producers, the list goes on: they are appearing at these cons for our benefit. They’re attending for us, to meet us, to answer our questions, to give out hugs and signed posters. They, like most of the fans attending, are high on the event. They try to keep it professional, but there are going to be goofs and slips, it happens to the worst and the best of us. Give them the allowance for these things, the benefit of the doubt that they don’t mean to offend (because they usually don’t), and remember they have the same right to their ideas that you do - ok, in some cases more so, because, like, they are the ones who make this awesome stuff happen, right?

ALSO: Remember that all the other fan peeps have paid lots of money to be able to be there. Tickets and travel and hotel expenses are. not. cheap. (Neither is the time off from work for many of us.) Everyone is there to have a good time. We can always do discourse any other day: don’t ruin somebody else’s con by getting upset or hating on any fandom or person present. It just isn’t worth your time or energy, and it’s not worth anybody else’s either. You don’t want someone else to ruin the day for you, so be considerate.

Social media too. Don’t ruin someone’s #BestDayEver by posting negativity in the forums and tags of the things they love. Don’t jump on any unhappy trains when everything is crazy. Post excitement and insider info and stories and all that jazz (do kids still say that? idk, I like it) in the sections of the internet you love and care about.

3. Be safe!

Okay, so I will mention con-flu. It’s a thing. You get that many people from different places all together, in sweaty costumes, and possibly dirty laundry by the last days of the event... it isn’t always pretty.

Do everything you can to stay clean and healthy, make sure to stay hydrated and fed - and try to get some sleep!

And, again, be kind! You never get to see these peeps all together, so spend the time spreading enthusiasm and kindness among your fellow humans. We can always use more of that in the world. ^_^

TL;DR: yaaaaaayyyy comic-con time: geeks unite! be chill about stuff you don’t like, celebrate what you do. instead of fueling negativity, flipping promote the heck out of all the awesomeness of your faves. stay safe! have fun!

Looloo’s Horror Rec List!

SO. I apologise for how long this list took, but as it turns out, I have watched a slightly silly number of horror movies, and with it being such a varied genre, I didn’t want to accidentally rec a bunch of things people would end up hating or spoil the heck out of them during the reccing process, so. But it’s finished now, and I intend to try and keep it up to date as time goes by and I encounter more horror flicks worth watching. I’m also going to stick a little italicised bit after any movies I remember having potentially squicky/triggery stuff in for people who are okay with horror but not That Kind Of Horror.

Behind a cut because this is Quite A Lot Of Movies My Dudes.

Movies I’m reccing because they actually scared me:

* Alien

Yo, it’s a classic for a reason, and if I’m doing a rec list of horror movies, I’m determined to address all the movies I’d rec, regardless of the likelihood of everyone having seen it already. Fantastic characters who behave believably, the cold cruelty of both monsters and capitalism, slow builds that pay off, it’s just - it’s so dang good, from start to finish, and all the spoofs and parodies and homages in the world will never fully diminish its success as a genuinely scary movie. CW: Soooooo much imagery suggesting sexual violence.

* The Autopsy of Jane Doe

Brian Cox is a frigging awesome actor, and he and Emile Hirsch absolutely and 100% sell you on the affectionate but strained relationship between father and son in this brilliant little flick that makes you root for the leads so hard. It’s claustrophobic and creepy and made by how the leads actually use common sense for the majority of the movie, and while I will admit the ending wasn’t my favourite, that by no means spoiled the film for me. CW: Animal death, references to human trafficking and sexual violence.

* Hereditary

Oh man. This film is absolutely brutal emotionally, one of the most intense (and imho, accurate) depictions of the pain of mourning I’ve ever seen on screen, and the horror happening around all this pain is just... torture. It’s almost unbearable to watch, but I can’t deny how incredibly well-acted it is, or how frightening it is. For quite a few people the ending doesn’t stick - people feel it over-explains itself - but I personally felt it worked. CW: graphic child death, graphic animal death.

* Jacob’s Ladder

This is such a weird and wonderful creation and I am so, so happy that I found it during the height of my Silent Hill fangirling days. It’s like watching a dream - sometimes quiet and comforting, sometimes loud and terrifying, and the movie just has this magnificent atmosphere of paranoia. It’s unlike any other horror movie I’ve seen in terms of it successfully pulling off the nightmare effect (controversial but true, I’m not a fan of Suspiria, though I appreciate several of the works it inspired). CW: Some imagery suggesting sexual violence.

* Kill List

Please, pretty please watch this without spoilers if you can. The less you know about it going in, the better. It’s a slow build, with the first half of the film playing out more or less like a kitchen sink drama with occasional bursts of explicit violence, but the payoff is worth it imho. CW: Mentions of paedophilia, violence against children.

* The Orphanage

This Spanish language flick is tragic, beautiful, and absolutely bloody terrifying on a first watch. It’s the only film that’s ever made me scream in fright, and is without a doubt the scariest movie I have watched to date: CW: Jaw trauma, child deaths.

* The Thing (1982)

God, I cannot describe how much I loved finally sitting down and watching this movie and realising that for all that I had seen the majority of the transformation and body horror sequences in it, it was still scary. Thanks to the sense of paranoia, and how many times you’re left waiting for something to happen, knowing something is about to happen, on a first watch it’s got some truly chilling moments and it deserves its status as a known classic.

Movies I’m reccing because they may not have scared me but they sure left a lingering something behind:

* Kairo (also known as Pulse)

Pretend there was never a remake because jfc the ball on that one got dropped harder than Vin Diesel’s voice during puberty. Kairo is utterly and completely bleak and depressing but the bleak and depressing nature of it is what makes the horror in it work. Watching the world in Kairo go quieter and emptier over time is distressing in the strangest of ways, and - fun fact - this film gave me one of the weirdest fears of all time, because now I have nightmares about windows and doors surrounded by red tape. As you do. CW: Suicide depicted explicitly and frequently.

* Lake Mungo

This flick and the Marble Hornets series on youtube are the only things I’ve seen using the found footage format that I felt really got its potential. Plenty of movies have had fun with it, and I’m grateful to The Blair Witch Project for popularising it, but a lot of the time it feels like long periods of nothing then suddenly All Of The Things. This one is a lot subtler about building an increasing sense of dread, and handling the subject matter in a way that feels very, very real for once. It’s fab.

* Let the Right One In

The English language remake, Let Me In, is apparently pretty good? But I haven’t seen it, so I’m going off the original here. And it’s a flaming beautiful film. It’s discomforting and its balance of achingly sweet and tender moments with brutally violent moments is perfect. There’s a bleakness to it that might put some people off, but it’s just gorgeous in my eyes, and I’m very, very fond. CW: Strongly implied paedophilia.

* The Mist

This is a perfect example of how you don’t necessarily have to have the best CGI if you have a great cast. I could never watch it again because it left me so shaken and upset at the end, but some of the imagery in it is just astonishingly haunting, like the best entries of SCP brought to life, and I have to commend it for being one of the classiest adaptations of Stephen King’s work to date. CW: Assisted suicides.

* Session 9

This is a bit of a weird one to put down on a rec list because I personally didn’t enjoy it, but I can’t say that it didn’t leave a lasting impression. There’s a sense of discomfort and wrongness that permeates the film, and it leaves a sort of... almost a slimy coating of creepiness all over you by the time it’s finished. CW: ~Creepy mental hospital~ setting, ableism ahoy.

* The Vvitch

I will admit that in retrospect, I do think this is a little overrated, but only a little, aaaaaand also I may as well admit that there is something about Kate Dickie’s acting that I hate. I have nothing against her as a person! I just don’t personally think she’s a good actress. That being said, everyone else in this movie, especially the children, did a brilliant job. It’s an uneasy watch from the start and only gets more uneasy as it goes on, and I love how straight it played its central concept. What elevates it for me in particular though is the ending, which I openly admit I did not see coming, and was delighted with. CW: Child deaths, strongly implied paedophilia.

Movies I’m reccing because they were just dang good and didn’t fit into the above categories:

* 28 Days Later

Not to be crude but I wish I could turn this film into body butter just so I could smear it all over me. Flawless cast, an adrenaline rush of a movie that I could watch a hundred times and never tire of, and the climax of the movie is straight up one of my favourite endings ever for its heart in throat intensity. CW: Suicides, threats of sexual violence.

* The Babadook

All Netflix categorisation jokes aside, I genuinely adored this movie. The leads are so well acted and I love their characterisation; it also has one of the best depictions of mental illness in childhood I’ve ever seen (second only to the little girl in Don't Be Afraid of the Dark 2010, whose portrayal of childhood depression resonated with me so strongly I couldn’t finish watching the movie). Also, for frigging once, the portrayal of mental illness is sympathetic, and people suffering from it get shown at their best, not just their worst.

* Coraline

To be honest, a lot of children’s movies are more successful at getting a reaction out of me than “grown-up” movies - All Dogs Go To Heaven’s hell sequence still unsettles me to this day - and Coraline is one of the rarities that plays out almost entirely as straight horror from start to finish. As per all things Laika it’s gorgeously animated, and the progression from eerie to nightmarish as the movie progresses is fantastic. CW: References to children’s deaths.

* Dog Soldiers, Ginger Snaps

It might seem an odd choice to pair these two up, but I couldn’t rec one without the other because to me they’re two sides of the same coin - violent werewolf movies with a wicked sense of humour, one focused on the relationships between men, the other on the relationships between women - and because of both the tone and the subject matter, I think Ginger Snaps makes a better pairing with Dog Soldiers than The Descent.

* Get Out

There’s very little I can say about this film that hasn’t been said already; it’s a film that uses humour like a knife, it’s a masterpiece in building discomfort and tension, and every single actor in it is top notch. It’s impossible not to root for the main character, and if you’re not cheering him on at the end, you may want to get your pulse checked.

* IT (2017)

Now this definitely terrified some of the people I saw this in the cinema with - one man peed himself, a woman fled the viewing, and I overheard people talking about smelling poop in the back of the cinema - but for me it wasn’t particularly scary. What it was, however, was moving, and funny, and had fantastic acting from all of the children involved. I was cheering the kids on constantly, and you could really believe their fear of Pennywise. I loved this so, so much. CW: Child deaths including on screen violence against children, depiction of bullying, heavily implied sexual abuse via parent/child incest.

* Pitch Black

It was a toss-up for a while whether putting this on here would be miscategorising it - is it more of a sci-fi action flick, or a sci-fi survival horror? - but based on the majority of the characters not being Riddick I’m going for survival horror. This is the perfect execution of a simple, brilliant concept, and it’s a delight. Plus, it has sympathetic Muslims in space, and I can’t ignore an excuse to cheer for that.

* [Rec]

This is another movie where I’ve heard good things about the English language adaptation but have only watched the original, and oh man, it’s fun. It’s not a film I consider particularly scary, but it has my hands down favourite protagonists of any found footage horror movie, and I love that the constant use of cameras makes sense in this one because it does start out as a documentary gone wrong. Also, the ending is a classic <3.

Movies I’m reccing but fully acknowledge their flaws:

* Candyman

Tony Todd is the man, dude, and it wouldn’t be right to make a horror movie rec list without having an absolute classic of his up on it. It’s wonderfully dreamy, packed full of that lovely late 80s/early 90s washed out aesthetic, and has one of the handsomest movie villains out there.

* The Crazies (2010)

Virus outbreak movies are a dime a dozen, but for all that there’s little new here, it’s still one of the better ones, helped by a good cast playing the core group of survivors. Worth seeing if you’re a Timothy Olyphant and/or Radha Mitchell fan, and I love them both to bits, so.

* Event Horizon

A cult favourite with a ridiculously awesome cast (Sean Pertwee? Jason Isaacs? Laurence Fishburne? And more?), this does go over the top at points, but it is such a fun ride. You can see where games like Dead Space drew their inspiration from; it’s visually stunning, and the main characters are frequently (alas, not always) sensible. Also, regarding who dies/doesn’t die, if you haven’t seen it before, I think you’ll be quite pleasantly surprised? I know I was. CW: Explicit depiction of suicide, brief but explicit glimpses of sexual violence, references to child death.

* The Girl With All the Gifts

If you haven’t played or watched someone play The Last Of Us, this is well worth a watch. With the rise of zombies in recent media, no pun intended, it was inevitable there would also be a rise in how many showed the results of a zombie cure, or of intelligence in zombies. Cordyceps based zombies are rarer in media, and The Last Of Us used them brilliantly, but this is a good, solid film, bleak in some ways but hopeful in others, and I loved it. Also, Gemma Arterton is in it (as is Glenn Close, who is fab as always) and there are very few things I would not do for that woman.

* Grave Encounters

This isn’t a particularly good movie, but it is so much fun to play “spot the gif” with; there’s hardly a scene in it, once the ghostly shenanigans kick off, that hasn’t been put into gif format for use alongside creepypastas and the like all over the net. Girl turning around and face melting into blackness? Masses of hands pushing out through a wall suddenly? It’s just fun to spot them. Not to mention that, once in a while, it is fun to see a movie where the main characters are unironically Those White People In A Horror Movie and as such deserve pretty much everything that happens to them. CW: Ableism, ~scary mental hospital~ trope.

* Let Us Prey

This is a flawed film that could have been a great movie if it had been handled with a subtler touch. Some flashback sequences in it are more gratuitous than they need to be, and the end villain is just bizarrely over the top, but overall I love that it’s almost like a British-Irish take on Silent Hill? Liam Cunningham and Pollyanna McIntosh in particular, as the leads, are wonderful in it and bring a touch of class to something that could otherwise have just been a straight up hot mess. CW: References to child death, references to and flashbacks to sexual violence. Also, going to throw homophobia on here, because god knows I’m tired of the Evil Predatory Gay trope.

* Mandy

Placing this one anywhere on the list feels strange because it’s... this odd mixture of extremely beautiful and dreamlike, but also cult-classic over the top to the point of clearly being deliberately funny about it in places. I don’t quite know how it leaves me feeling on the whole, but I do know I absolutely love it. CW: Description of animal death, drugging, sexual harrassment.

* Silent Hill

This isn’t by any means a good movie, but I’d be lying through my teeth if I claimed it wasn’t one of my favourites regardless. It’s just ridiculously pretty, the music (courtesy of Akira Yamaoka being a genius) is amazing, and I will ship Cybil and Rose to the end of my days. Also, Pyramid Head, guys. Pyramid Head.

* Switchblade Romance (also known as Haute Tension or High Tension)

This French language flick is one of my favourite guilty pleasures. Most extreme horror bores me or leaves me cold, but there was something about this one I enjoyed despite it having plot holes you could drive a truck through; the lead actresses are fantastic, and it has some of my favourite uses of music in a modern horror movie. Please be warned though, this one has some very violent sequences, even in the cut version. CW: Child death, home invasion, continuous threat of sexual violence.

* We Are What We Are

This was a very unevenly paced movie, slow in parts and then jarringly fast in others, and some of the exposition felt clunky, but it’s overall a beautifully made movie and I was so drawn to the love between the siblings in this. I really felt like they were a real family, and was rooting for them so hard. CW: Cannibalism, threat of violence against children.

* The Wicker Man (1973, unless you want to watch the remake for so-bad-it’s-funny shenanigans. I won’t judge)

This is up there with Alien in terms of “even if you haven’t watched this movie, you have watched this movie” courtesy of pop culture referencing it every which way but loose, but it’s so worth a watch. I can’t recommend a particular cut because I’ve seen so many I wouldn’t know where to begin! It’s also kind of fun to enjoy it as a musical in its own way - there are so many songs in it that it’s hard not to sing along after a few viewings - and for all that the ending isn’t a shocker these days, it’s still so much fun to watch.

* He Never Died

This is a great example of how you can do great things with a threadbare budget if you have a good idea and the confidence to commit to a concept. It is so, so funny, its humour sometimes dry, sometimes black as tar, and I just adored the main character’s absolute exhaustion with the world. I’m trying to sell this one without spoilers, because it’s another one where going in with as little info as possible is a good idea <3.

* Shaun of the Dead

It’s pretty much just the best ode to zombie movies and their inherent silliness that exists, and Simon Pegg is an adorable mess in it.

* Trick R Treat

My favourite horror anthology film by miles. It’s just fun. Aaaaaand the werewolf girls are hot af, soooooo. This also lets Brian Cox join Laurie Holden and Radha Mitchell on the list of people who managed to show up more than once in recced movies!

* Tucker & Dale vs. Evil

Aside from a few tonal missteps - references to sexual violence in the middle of a horror comedy, even if those references weren’t there as a joke, aren’t ever going to sit well - this film is hilarious, and frequently adorable too. Not to mention, it’s always nice to see a big guy get to be a hero.

anon asked: For any of the admins! I’m not sure if this was asked previously, so I apologize in advance. But what's everyone’s favorite au / prompt? (Also thank you guys for starting this blog, im forever grateful this exists)

Chamomile: awww! I’m grateful that this blog exists too (lol). My current favorite type of au’s are murder mystery au’s because of the Rabbit Doubt writing group I’m in so like, expect so many of those coming up soon. I’m also really digging superhero au’s.

M: I’m a fan of the whole “kidnapping / assassin / mob / killer” sort of a trope for some reason - it’s loads of fun to try and mess with original tropes and make them ridiculous, funny, modern, etc.!

Jynn: My fave AUs are ones that incorporate real life twists on typical AUs, like including people with disabilities.

@tomorraw asked: How many of you guys are there? Do certain people answer in certain genre? Or does everyone write what they are given? How did you guys meet? (Btw, this is one of my favorite idea blogs. They are so many different views on different ideas and so many genres.)

Chamomile: Currently there’s four of us! I know admin m and admin jynn from a loooong while back -- like two years back. Admin jynn and I go back to our homestuck roots (love her for that) and we’ve stuck together ever since. We all just kind of write whatever floats our boats! M: I met both Jynn and Chamomile through working on the Night Unvaled, which is a Night Vale Fancast that we wrote and produced. We’ve been friends ever since!! As for the certain genre thing, I can’t really say that we all write solely one genre, but we all certainly have our specialties!! Jynn: We have a posting schedule for who posts what when, but when it comes lists we all just take what interests us. Chamomile and I met more than two years back… in a Homestuck role play. Shortly after, we met M in a podcast project we were all working on and we've all be friends since!

Anon asked: what are some of your favorite tropes?

Chamomile: does “I love the way that you understand me and make me feel like I’m the only person in the world when you pay attention to me” count as a troupe? Like an OTP troupe? Bc that’s my ultimate favorite.

M: My favorite trope is messing with tropes. Best thing.

Anon asked: What is pastel/punk or pastel and punk? I don't get it and google isn't explaining it to me because it's a meany

Chamomile: I remember this AU! It was an AU Friday list that I did and loved doing it! Basically, there’s ‘pastel’ aesthetic which is very like, cutesy baby pink and pastel blues and other ‘soft’ colors being worn with other ‘soft’ aesthetic items like, glitter or hair clips or oversized sweaters ands stuff like that. Then there’s punk aesthetic, which very like, ‘heck all of you, I want to be comfortable and show that I’m rebelling against the social/political norms’. It can vary from person to person, so it might be better just to google ‘punk fashion’. The whole tag is supposed to be sort of an ‘opposite attract’ type deal.

Anon asked: So in regards to the color au in which you only see color once you touch your soulmate: what if you were born blind? Or when you touch your soulmate, it turns out that you are colorblind?

Chamomile: mmmmmm I’m not a fan of this AU bc of reasons I’m too longwinded about. Skipping this question for me.

M: I guess it’s possible and would make for quite the interesting change in AUs from the usual soulmate trope, but make sure you’re careful when it comes to writing AUs about topics you’re not personally familiar with (such as being blind), but go for it!

Jynn: Idk about it. Lmao I'm picky as heck when it comes to soulmate AUs, and this one has the potential to be interesting but never “stuck out” to me.

Anon asked: hi there! i'm new {ish}, and i've been looking thru ur old posts. i think it's really cool how u help ur followers, school related or not. out of curiosity tho, who is the person who according to that school survey watched so much anime? if u have time, would u mind asking?

M: maybe a 2. Too sticky.

Jynn: 7/10. Might get sticky and tedious (and I work in and pool so it'd probably get in the water) but endless free cotton candy? Yes.

Jynn: Aaaa I wanna work in entertainment. Running tech, performing, whatever. Gotta be near that world.

Anon asked: Are you a part of any fandoms? Which ones?

Chamomile: oh jeeze well uhhhhh -- I still hold homestuck dear to my heart, but I’ve mostly moved into podcasts (SAYER, The Adventure Zone, WTNV, Carpe DM) and a lot of like, writing niche groups with my friends? If I can count those as ‘small fandoms’.

M: soooooo many: Nightvale, Merlin, Doctor Who, Supernatural, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, etc. Too many.

Jynn: Still Homestuck like Chamomile. Various Nexflix series: Voltron, Stranger Things. Miraculous Ladybug too. Lots of Max Fun and Night Vale Presents podcasts, McElroy products. I work about 60 hours and week so I like things I can listen to while doing other things.

Anon asked: If you were a dragon, what would you hoard?

Chamomile:....scraps of paper. I have so many. I write down AU ideas and story lines on them and then just like, shove them into my bags and pockets and forget about them.

M: pens. so many pens.
