Omg you like SatoSugu and Soukoku too? I’ve GOTTA hear your thoughts on them

If I start talking about my relationship with these two ships I might actually end up sobbing while I write this- But basically, both Soukoku and Satosugu are really important to me because the whole dynamic of "best friends to enemies who still have feelings for each other" reminds me of something that happened to me with my former best friend. Which is, uh, not pleasant to talk about but we had a very nasty break up and I think it's a very common experience. Somebody said something once (in my post about Shuggy making more sense if they were girls) about these ships always resembling friendships between sapphics that don't know they're sapphics yet, which changed my whole view on these three ships completely because oh lord, that person was so damn right. Because it's the possessiveness of it all, you know? Like- Being close to your best friend, so much it hurts to see them with other people and so much it's frightening to think about a world without them. You have so many feelings about this person that you can't quite place and you can't put a name to, but it's more than a friendship and it's not romantic love either. And it makes more sense being a closeted sapphic because you don't accept it might probably be love until the friendship ends in a very nasty and toxic way and then you keep resenting that person forever.

I am kind of traumadumping here, lmfao, but basically I really like these three ships because they treat this dynamic in very different ways and I am a sucker for them. The angst is immaculate and I'll never get tired of them.

I like Soukoku for a lot of reasons, BSD being my favorite manga of all time and everything. Dazai meets Chuuya when he doesn't have any reason to live but keeps working for the mafia nevertheless because Chuuya is interesting enough to keep being alive. Because perhaps that's what Dazai has been looking for. And Chuuya, well- He has mixed feelings for Dazai but his loyalty is unmatched and that's both his best and worst trait (we see that constantly, poor boy). Dazai is still, after everything, his partner. They need each other, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. They're basically canonically soulmates, at this point, and you don't even need to ship them to acknowledge it because it's just that obvious. Chuuya is the only one able to keep Dazai wanting to live and Dazai is quite literally the only one with the ability to stop Chuuya from losing control. They really are made for each other. It makes me go completely insane. The whole thing about Chuuya not being a human but being the most human and empathetic person of the mafia, and Dazai saying he isn't worthy of being called human but being physically one? That's just insane. And I could talk for hours about them and write a deeper analysis of their relationship, but I'd never finish this post, then.

Then, Satosugu. They make me equally insane. They were best friends. They were so damn close. And Gojo loved him so much that he couldn't stop Geto when he turned his back on him and walked away to become what he is now. It's just so heartbreaking, losing someone like that and all of a sudden. We see Geto losing himself over the years and falling into desperation and emptiness and Gojo not noticing until it's just too late to do anything. That's Gojo's weak spot. He's the most powerful sorcerer and dude can't fight his ex best friend because "there's no curse more twisted than love". That fucked me up completely, honestly. Gojo is such a complex character, growing up so quickly and with so many expectations, not being able to enjoy his teenage years either because they stole them from him like this. And Geto ending up all alone too, turning into just a vessel of vengeance. Like- Shit is too deep to explain it in just a tumblr post, but they make me go insane.

And Shuggy is basically the same thing but at least these two have the chance to make up and reunite at some point. Shuggy is the one that feels more realistic to me, honestly, because it genuinely feels only like a normal falling out between best friends (that definitely were something more) rather than this complicated poetic mix of metaphors and poems. These two were just kids when all of this happened, too, it makes me so ill. But I have a whole post talking about Shuggy too, so I don't think I need to explain why I like them.

TL;DR: These ships are definitely for the sapphics who had THAT best friend and had very strong feelings toward them but didn't know why, and years after a very nasty break up that still haunts them to this day they realized it was a bit more than just a friendship.

A fight like this wasn't usual in the Port Mafia.

At least, it wasn't usual in a place where even the lowest ranks could see. If fights like this occurred, surely they would be behind closed doors. The youngest Port Mafia Executive and Boss don't usually fight. Do they?

But that isn't what happened. In fact, it was more than just a fight. It was a horrible moment. A tragic thing to witness.

That's what Dazai believed, at least, when he thought back on the event.

It was a normal day. Dazai had just finished a large mission, one where he led a large group into battle with their rivals.

There were more casualties than there should have been. Yet, they were on the enemy's side, so Dazai was inclined not to care.

When he made it back to the base, many other groups were there as well. Chuuya was there. He smiled at Chuuya, heart fluttering slightly. He ignored that feeling.

Just as he was about to walk over and greet the redhead, he heard a loud threatening voice boom, freezing him in his place, "Osamu, were are talking, now."

Dazai turns, somewhat startled. "Yes, Mori-sensei."

He begins to walk away, assuming Mori didn't want to talk in front of everyone. Though, he was wrong.

"We're talking here," Mori says in his creepy, calm voice.

Around them, everyone went silent. They were watching, judging. They were grasping at every slight bit of drama they could hear like hungry vultures.

They were like teenagers in high school, despite most of them being adults. They watched. Dazai wished their gazes were not focused on him. He did not like being watched.

"Yes, sir," Dazai said obediently. He felt like shaking, he didn't. He placed his hands behind his back, holding them together. He stood up as straight as possible despite wanting to cruel into a ball.

"We do not needlessly murder here, do we, Osamu?" Mori asks, expecting an obedient answer. Dazai wished Mori didn't call him that. His first name was tainted by the Mafia Boss.

Dazai did not respond obediently, but he still tried to sound polite, "No, we do not. But this was not needless murder, Mori-sensei. Those murders were not murders. They were accidents. They had to happen to ensure the success of the mission."

"Are you speaking back to me, Osamu?" Mori growls, stepping closer.

The crowd is watching. Their gazes settled on him. They are watching. Chuuya is watching.

"Of course not," Dazai says, trying his best to keep his mask up. He will not slip. He is okay. Everything is fine. Mori is just being himself. Dazai is used to this.

Dazai had not talked back. He said nothing wrong. He did nothing wrong. At least, in his eyes.

Mori saw it differently.

Dazai tried not to let out a gasp, failing, as Mori slapped him hard on the cheek.

The faces around him were analyzing his reaction. He did not give them his reaction. There was a circle formed around them now. They were a show. Mori knew this. Mori was trying to make a fool of him on purpose. But he couldn't do anything. He had to be a fool or else he'd get a worse punishment.

"I am sorry, Mori-sensei," His eyes were filling with liquid. "It will not happen again."

"Good boy," Mori grins slyly. Dazai shivers under his gaze, under all of their gazes, under Chuuya's gaze.

"Now, Osamu," Mori's smile is terrifying, Dazai decides. "An apology will not cut it. Many lives were lost because of you. You should be punished, right? Doesn't everybody think he should be punished?"

The people around him nodded reluctantly. They obviously did not want to be like Dazai. They didn't want to be in this situation.

Dazai suddenly felt his age. He was fifteen. He was young, he was a child. He shouldn't be in the Mafia. He shouldn't be under some older man's control. But he is. And he can not do a single thing about it.

"You are all about to see the real nature of your Port Mafia Executive!" Mori cheered. Dazai was terrified as to what that meant. "This 'strong' child you all look up to is weak, and I can easily prove it!"

Mori grabbed the bandages on his wrists, quickly pulling them. They unraveled, falling to the floor. Dazai froze, mouth open, eyes widened.

Dazai looked down, expression the same. He looked first at the small pile of bandages on both sides of his body. Another fell from his throat, landing in the middle.

He then looked at his arms. They were covered in scars. Scars from his own hand, scars from Mori, scars from missions, scars from the streets, scars covering every inch of his body. All he felt was shame and embarrassment.

The second the bandages fell, the entire room went more silent than before. But only for a second. After that, many different reactions took place from the diverse set that was the Mafia. People gasped in pity, relatability, and sadness. Some laughed. Some said and did nothing.

Though, worst of all, when he looked up he met Chuuya's unsteady gaze. He was shocked.

At the sight of Chuuya, Dazai suddenly wasn't frozen anymore.

He ran. He ran as fast as he could. He didn't know where he was running to, he was just running. He had to get out. He couldn't take their stares anymore.

He held his arms tightly against his chest, he needed to hide. Though, he could do little about his neck.

He ran until his legs gave out in a small dark alley.

Dazai collapsed onto the moist, hard concrete. His knees and hands scrapped against the hard ground as he landed on all-fours.

At that moment, he was breathing more heavily than ever. After a sharp deep breath, he vomited. His guts spilled onto the concrete.

Dazai laughed, he laughed. Then he threw up again from the strain on his stomach.

He laughed and laughed, losing his breath.

Dazai is so utterly fucked up in the brain.

His scars burn.

He hates himself.

Dazai hates himself.

Mori pulled off his bandages in front of everyone.

He had basically made a total fool out of him.

And the worst part is....he did it in front of Chuuya.

And Dazai didn't know how he could live with the knowledge of everyone knowing that he was messed up in the head.

Though, maybe they already knew that.

Maybe they just couldn't deal with him being suicidal and self-destructive.

He couldn't blame them

Dazai hated himself.

Once again, he laughed.

He laughed until his head felt fuzzy.

He laughed until the fuzziness overloaded his senses and he passed out onto the stupid concrete.

Chuuya knew.

5) What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?

So technically the first song was "I Love You Like An Alcoholic" by The Taxpayers but thats more a Soukoku song than Chuuya so by that logic the first Chuuya song is "Super Massive Black Hole" by Muse. However, Chuuya's seiyuu is literally a singer/songwriter and lead vocalist of GranRodeo and did do vocals for his actual character song "Darkness My Sorrow" and that deserves and honorable mention

10) Could you be best friends with this character?

I love Chuuya but i'm like 99% sure he would hate me. Granted that means next to nothing with how much he says he hates Dazai but i don't think it would work well in most aspects. The upside is I could be wrong because Chuuya is not one of the many characters i look at and go "oh, this mirror fucking sucks"

15) What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)

SOUKOKU, DOUBLE BLACK, TWIN DARK. Buckle Your Seatbelts guys because this is gonna be long. So I love Soukoku (双黒) not just on their individual characters but because of their trust in eachother. The whole Partner(相棒-Aibou 😭😭) nonsense kills me for outside of BSD reasons but they actually care about each other regardless of how much they say they dont (Chuuya in season two telling Dazai to go die then being immediately concerned when he get injured/ Dead Apple Chuuya punching Dazai to cure him of his poisoning/ Dead Apple Dazai Holding Chuuya gently during the fog scene after Chuuya saves him, ect) but like more than that right. If you get into it and actually look at the different spellings of soukoku you can get the Rival spelling (相克) but most of the time its spelled with the 'Always a Pair/Partner' spelling(双黒) with 双(sou/sō) having many uses in terms of soulmates. On the line of soulmates when you get farther into the series Chuuya struggles with his humanity and not truly knowing whether or not he is human and Dazai never has a doubt that Chuuya is more human than most, Stormbringer finally puts that to an end with Chuuya believing regardless of what he is told that he is human because he believes in humanity. Past that you get to Beast. In which we learn that there are infinite universes in BSD and in all of the ones we've seen Chuuya is Dazai's right hand man. They are Soukoku, They Are Double Black, they are together in every universe we see and they trust implicitly. They are soulmates, destined to be together in every universe for one reason or another, destined to bring out the humanity in each other and to not let themselves get caught in their own grief. Chuuya and Dazai's partnership is weird but looking at it from what i know now is interesting. Soukoku isn't just the ship its their dynamic, but maybe not their full one just yet because of the changes Dazai is and has gone through. Dazai doesn't have 'friends' because of how he was raised and what happened with Odasaku and Ango, but i think he is learning how to. His fondness of Chuuya and vice versa is showing more and more as the main series goes on.

20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?

I feel bad cause @podcasts-8-my-heart immediately said Oda just to be shot down cause the Flags exist. The Flags (旗会) or Young Bloods as we heard they were called once we're a support group of friends within the PM. Piano Man, Lippman, Ice Man, Albatross, Doc and Chuuya. I wont get into specifics of it because it is Stormbringer content but their deaths nearly broke Chuuya. He still visits and maintains their graves outside of the city on the mountainside. Other than the Flags, some of his actual closest friends in the PM, but other than them? I'm at a loss. I think he would probably get along with Kunikida the best out of the ADA but with little to no screen time with them both i'm unsure at best.

25) What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

To quote WTNV: "A new man came in to town today. Who is he? What does he want from us? Why his perfect and beautiful haircut? Why his perfect and beautiful coat?" ... "He grinned, and everything about him was perfect, and I fell in love instantly." As for now? I love him, he goes through so much shit and the man deserves a hug, glass of wine and a week of undisturbed vacation. I will say, I wish we saw more of him outside of being a main source of plot armour built into the show, I want to see Stormbringer (Kinda, Im Not Ready For The Cry Fest) but more so I want to see more of him without PM orders.

BSD SEASON 5 EP 8

WE FUCKING WON BOYSSSSSSSS!!!!!

I think they did everything right! The Kenji Tecchou fight was dope, Tecchou said the thing he said the for "five minutes I will put Jounno above justice" thing we are winning so hard right now, the VISUALS of the Kenji backstory were so pretty!! He looked so cool! They went so hard on his animation! I absolutely love it when shows do small style changes when portraying stuff and they did it so cooly! I am so happy!!

(Another little thing that happened at the start, I love those little chibi's they did of Yosano Kouyou and Akutagawa, they were so cute. Though I'm not entirely sure why Kouyou is there, didn't they only know each other for like, one conversation? But anyways.)

Also, someone in this studio must really like Tecchou, cause mans was fucking gorgeous. Like, he's always gorgeous but damn.

Speaking of pretty people, Teruko!! They draw her so pretty and I am so happy!

Moving away from the airport. Meursault! Holy Shit they have not stopped giving out W's for Meursault! We got the Cat girl! And she honestly didn't feel too Deus Ex Machina-y! When I first heard of her I kinda felt like she was like that, but she wasn't! Her existence makes sense! The animations are still going strong, and it was all just awesome!

And of course,

THE CHAPTER 101 SCENE BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THEY DID IT GOOD! FYODOR HAD EMOTIONS! CHUUYA WAS ACTUALLY GROWLING AND NOT DOING WHATEVER THE FUCK THAT EEYAH THING WAS! THE DAZAI SPEECH!! HOLY FUCK THE DAZAI SPEECH!!!

They did so good on the Dazai speech! Maybe I have to wait to see the thoughts of the skk fans that really like the ship and don't just passively like it as I do, but I think they did wonderful! Dazai closing his eyes and looking deep in thought and reminiscing as you hear Chuuya fucking drowning in the background, the music, his tone of voice, just, fucking everything man! I think that was one of the best possible outcomes for this scene!! I am very happy with this!!

At the end with Aya and Bram they were being adorable and I love them, best duo. But they also had this conversation about the sword which revealed some information that I did not know about before, and it just so happens that that information really helped support this somewhat-not-serious-but-it-is-serious-now theory I had about Fyodor's ability, so I am going to be making a separate post about that.

Overall? That was great!! Everything was awesome and I am so happy with everything they have done for this episode! I loved this! Excited to see this quality hopefully last till the end of this season! See you next week!

Okay, there are multiple errors here:

1) I already knew about boycotting for years now. I've also complained about it a few years ago when "y'all can't even boycott chick fil a" went viral. And I already understood the concept of it in general since I was eight when my mother warned me not to read some newspaper companies cause she found out they're own my rotten politicians. Maybe that's something other people should practice sometimes.

2) if you're agree that I said you can't boycott a whole country, then I'm sorry you can't handle the truth. One of our biggest financial support is by creating small chips you put in tech objects that are impossible to take out. We have international shipping with multiple countries outside of the West because shocker! The world doesn't revolve around one side of the planet! There multiple families who do the immigration thing to the US to send money back home since dollars have more worth than shekels. You can't just "boycott" country from the rest of the world unless that country only does one specific thing like some cartoon's concept of an evil empire. That's not how life works.

3) the only way people I've seen actually affected by this boycott are working class people who just trying to get through the day. Jewish Europeans who had their kosher cafes destroyed. Innocent McDonald part-time employees in the UK having to deal with a nutjob releasing rats into the restaurant. Rabbis getting death threats on Twitter. Only normal people are actually affected by this because it was never about being right, it's about looking right.

4) killing or threatening me isn't going to do any change either. I'm a depressed 22 year old that's been unemployed for months and suffering from burn out. You're targeting someone that has nothing to do with the war effort and would mourn by fifteen people at best.

5) Jews are the most argumentive stubborn, bullheaded rebellious people I know. By you going to strangers' inboxes and telling us to kill ourselves, it gives us motivation to reach a hundred and twenty out of pure fucking spite.

6) I'm allowed to criticize BSD. Sometimes victims can be wrong. Remember how on Twitter white BLM protestors were given advice to wear pretty clothes so that the police would think they're too innocent to hurt? Or how during the actor's strike, people were told to not promote anything even when the actors' themselves said "no, some of these are okay. Just give us some credit"? Not every movement is a hundred percent correct. Putting Palestinian movements and political solutions on a pedestal will only get more people hurt.

All in all, an f-. You were so disappointing that you invented a new low. Just what exactly did you think you want going to happen?

I am like, constantly at war with myself on this ship to be honest. I was really on board with it when I first started BSD, and then I really liked Oda so I was like, hmmm, Dazai has two hands man. But that gradually fell away, and now maybe for a week one month I'll be really into it (mainly cause one artist or writer really just gets the dynamic right and piques my interest), but then most of the time I'm like, eh, so I went with this category. I agree with others who believe the fandom has really dumbed down the complexities of Dazai and Chuuya's characters for the sake of the ship and amped up the stereotypes. My biggest issue with Soukoku is the Chuuya feminization problem and how overly sexual their relationship is always portrayed. I once saw a post that said something about how Chuuya in canon embraces his masculinity and loves being a guy, and I hate when people take that away from him. For Dazai's part, I also don't love how he's always the one in control and who has a plan, etc. Just, a lot of reasons.

2. What would have made you like it?

If it wasn't the most popular ship and the fans were more chill about them. If they were just more open to other ships with potential too. Soukoku is literally in the top 100 (I think 20-30?) ao3 ships according to ColeyDoesThings's 2022 summary video. I like Dazai and Chuuya and their partnership, but I've grown to prefer their dynamic as best friends who argue like siblings.

3. Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

I'm sure I could think of something, but I've spat out a lot of my brain capacity already tonight. I like it sometimes, just trust me😅.

What made you ship it?

Oh gladly! I mean, it's Ranpo and Poe, how do I not ship them? I love opposing dynamics like theirs a lot, like where there's one outgoing half of a ship and the other is more introverted and they can help each other grow socially because of their differences. That was a big appeal for me, and them having some history aside from the main story leaves room for interpreted events which is always fun imo! Of course, the fact that they're in opposite organizations but it really does not matter to either of them past their second meeting is so funny and wholesome. Poe just continued to show up at the ADA and he and Ranpo share mysteries and cases, leaving room for inspiring each other.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

I like that it's wholesome and seems very natural I guess? I like that they have things in common and how it's actually healthy. I have stickers of them on my laptop actually! I've been trying to get through a 100k+ fic about Poe's life since summer and it's really good, so I'm glad there's balance in Ranpoe's relationship and appreciate how people can imagine them without each other too. And they're both so funny with each other?? Poe taking small competition things seriously that Ranpo doesn't, Ranpo being stunned at Poe's paycheck, I can't explain it, they just immediately become more enjoyable in each other's presence.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

Not really on the ship, but Ranpo's not one of my top favorites, so I don't talk about this ship or draw for it very often. It's kind of just there in my mind as fanon and I feel like my brain is not creative enough to wonder about them day to day to find the intriguing and fun bits. I did think Ranposano was better at one point, but that was a very very brief time.

☀️ Atsushi:

HC: he can’t stand scary movies.

you two are sitting in your room. You promised him that you would watch a movie together -when atsushi was free of course- and he had kindly agreed. you boot up your pc and hop onto a streaming site as he holds a bag filled up with buttered popcorn. You decide to play a horror movie and make sure to ask if he’s okay with this, he seems a bit worried at first, however he reluctantly agrees.

further into the movie, when there was a “scary part” he would make a EEKKK noise and jump up almost like a cat! It was funny.. really funny actually..! but you had to push that horrible part of yourself away and admit… you felt kinda felt bad.

Now was the time for some.. collective thinking. Maybe you should try comforting him? You’re not really the best at comforting, or at talking to others at all, however in the end you decided to put your arms around him during the movie. He slowly blinked at you at first, but then he would happily smile at you and would cling on to you right back. This time he wasn’t scared, he enjoyed every bit of the movie, especially because it was with you.

☀️ Dazai:

HC: he gets confused when people are genuinely kind to him.

It was early Valentine’s Day, many decorations, specifically hearts were being hung around the detective agency, you were sure of who to get a valentines gift for but, you weren’t sure what. You decided to quickly ask around to everyone that was there.

Ranpo said that a box of chocolate would be perfect! His reasoning? Who doesn’t like sweets

Atsushi stated that a kind letter, simply showing how much you care is a great gift!

Yosano told that not only flowers are gorgeous, but they also symbolize love and care.

You’re quite scared on which gift he would like the most, so you decided it wouldn’t hurt to get them all.

VALENTINES DAY

You finally find him, holding the goodies in a safely put together bag, as you walk by he lets out a snarky comment then snickers. You lightly tap him on the shoulders. He seems almost confused at first but then you suddenly hand him the bag. You happily tell him that this is a Valentine’s Day gift for him -and dazais eyes widened- even more when he pulled out a handwritten letter. He puts his finger up to try and say something… however he just goes back to being completely shocked…you tried waving your hand across his face, but his eyes just stayed in the same direction. Even with a minute gone by he’s still standing there … completely still like a statue.

I guess you can kill them with kindness…?

☀️ Luffy:

HC: he still misses ace, and wishes he was there.

You could hear loud cheers from everyone on the ship, bottles popping and loud chewing. It was a nice banquet right after the saving of an island. The boy in red wiped his mouth and quickly walked out of the area, to the edge of the boat. You were quite confused now, this entire setup was FOR HIM! So after a bit of mind boggling, you decide to follow him to the boats edge and sit down right next to him.

His head instantly went up when he saw you were there, turning his entire body towards you, he smiled, said hi. With a crooked smile ( that reflects your love life ) you said hi back. You were nervous to ask of course, however you decided to in the end. “Are you okay?” You would ask, putting a hand on his shoulder. His eyes widened slightly. He didn’t even seem sure himself. When he did reply, he stated that he was sure he was completely over it, however he couldn’t help but wish his brother was with him at every party no matter where he went. You couldn’t help but feel bad for the boy, and in the end you ended up giving him a big hug, he smiled and hugged back

“It’s always alright to miss someone.”

You said, still tightly holding him in your grip. He giggled for a second, then completely started laughing. He let go of you and stood up from the place he was sitting. He thanked you, very much and told that those were the exact words he needed to hear. And so the boy walked off. You looked at his walk and smiled -what a boy- what a boy indeed

Part 3: Fifteen

Content warning: major Fifteen light novel spoilers.

This may be a far, far shorter section than you would expect from me as we don’t get too much to analyze in Fifteen, compared to Stormbringer later on. I will not be summarizing the entire novel, since I have stated before that I’m going into this assuming my readers have seen both books already. This is merely a summary of the most important things which occurred that I will be referencing/referring to in terms of Rimlaine as a ship itself, and also to bring up details that could have been missed along the way if the reader wasn’t focused on them.

I would also like to add an additional note before I begin— as for Fifteen, I am only talking about the events of the written novel, not the anime adaptation of it. I believe I make this explicitly clear everywhere when I say “novel”, but I’m aware some people still may think of those two as the same or similar to each other and don’t actually distinguish between the two, even when I directly state which piece of media it is. I need for it to be said before going to write about any canonical events, solely to avoid statements such as “I remember watching something else”, “when did that even happen”, etc., considering the anime could practically be interpreted as its own separate story. Additionally, this will also apply here if an anime adaptation for Stormbringer is released, as I can’t say I have any faith in a short, animated version’s ability to not cut out or twist extremely crucial or important details from such a long novel either to save space, budget or provide fanservice, just as it did in S3.

So then, what exactly do we establish in Fifteen?

Part 3.1: the fight and Arthur’s memories

Despite talking about this novel and a major part of Arthur’s character, I will not be going over the entire section where he gets introduced into the BSD universe, nor where he explains his initial recollection of events about the Arahabaki incident. Instead, I will skip right into the fight with Dazai and Chuuya. Why? Because, to put it simply, the former parts have absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand. As much as I could talk about them for a rather long time, they provide me with no information I could give out in terms of Arthur’s relation to Paul, which is the sole focus here.

Now, during the fight in the second half of the novel, we get to learn of Arthur’s true identity, as well as his purpose in Japan. His initial mission was to research “Arahabaki” and take it back to his home country alive, however his intent had changed significantly over time. He had no longer planned to take Chuuya, or rather, “Arahabaki” back alive, rather deciding to kill him— as we learn further on, this was not done due to a simple desire for violence, power or anything of this kind. In fact, that would go against his whole character, as it’s not only implied, but also outright stated by him he doesn’t truly want to go along with it and does certainly feel remorse for his actions…so then, what might his reasoning possibly be?

That reasoning was Chuuya’s memories. Eight years ago, when he was sent on this very mission, he wasn’t alone. Here, we learn of another character, one who supposedly accompanied him and worked with him, according to his vague recollections. Arthur had long since forgotten what happened to that person, whether he died or survived the Arahabaki explosion— all he remembered was the two being partners, even “best friends”, as he referred to him. Unsurprisingly, Arthur wished to know what happened to someone so important to him, especially after eight years of having no possibility of finding this out, and due to Chuuya/Arahabaki being present at the time of the two still being together, he believed he could retrieve his lost memories by taking in Chuuya’s ability, though unfortunately, that could only be done if Chuuya was killed. It wasn’t an act of anything other than simply a desperate wish to know what happened to an old friend of his, even if it now went against his actual mission. Despite his amnesia, desires and even his own orders, he still cared about his partner strongly enough to try and go through with his plan. That plan, however, failed.

Just as Arthur thought he succeeded in their altercation, with Chuuya seemingly not being able to fight back any longer after being heavily injured, he was fatally stabbed through by a scythe he used to pin the redhead to the ground. Instead of Chuuya’s ability itself, that was the action which made him remember the true events of his past. In his final moments, he states he was betrayed by his partner at the last minute, who is now revealed to be named Paul Verlaine. According to him, Paul had tried to kill him, and thus it’s implied he had to defend himself. In his recollection of events, he believes to be the one who ended his partner’s life, and while he does not explicitly state this himself, as I assume he wasn’t even able to, he hints at it. This part of Fifteen ends with Arthur passing away, thinking about Paul in his very last thoughts.

Part 3.2: Paul’s appearance

This is a part which many people are not aware of– Paul’s actual appearance in Fifteen after Arthur’s death, which was not even mentioned a single time in Fifteen’s animated rendition. It will most definitely be a very short summary, given it is a rather short part itself, yet it’s quite crucial to my points.

The section revolves around Paul getting into the Port Mafia’s office during nighttime. As he himself claims, it was to retrieve a document of “[his] best friend’s life”. One could even begin to think he did care about Arthur the same way he was clearly cared for by the latter just with that line alone, yet the rest of his dialogue entirely disproves this.

I could certainly point to his proclamation of Arthur’s memory being “interesting” due to him having mistakenly remembered ending Paul’s life, seemingly being amused by it with such wording, but there’s a far more glaring example of this that does not require any amount of analyzing whatsoever. Following this, he then goes on to thank Chuuya for killing his former partner on his behalf before stating he wishes to meet him. Even if one was to reach for rather far-fetched assumptions, there is no grief or regret expressed by him to be found at any point during this specific part, rather the opposite— this was supposedly what he wanted to see happen. The section ends with him disappearing into the night, confirming a sequel to the novel.

If Lawlicht not canon why this

Okay but jokes aside, I love this panel so much. For various reasons.

First of all obviously because of that look, come on, you don't look at everyone with so much love in your eyes.

But also the context! Because he's doubting. See how he skips straight back to the fact that they can't really do anything. (Notably he doesn't say this out loud though).

But those eyes? Those trusting, sincere eyes? He meant it when he said yes.

"But Lawless is an emotional crybaby, he'd probably want to be reassured in this situation too"

Lawless? Lawless "I'd rather watch the girl I love die than put my wishes over hers" of Greed? That Lawless? Nah, we all know what this is. Because it could still have been a form of reassurance, however directed at himself rather than Licht, but it's more likely that this isn't even necessary. Not because he doesn't care about Crantz, but because he doesn't doubt Licht.

This? That's not some half hearted lie to make either of them feel better. That's pure trust in his angel. Licht knows what he wants, and Lawless knows that he will get it.

Sounds familiar?

He has kept his Eves around for 200 years for the purpose of trying to avoid losing his mind (a little too late, Lawless, but I don't blame you). Remember the flashbacks with Iris? He didn't have faith in her or her decisions one bit. I mean, why would he?

And then Licht singlehandedly snapped him out of this state. Hmmm, I wonder why him, of all people?

Which leads us back to the topic of reassurance. Iris was entirely indifferent towards him, and we can assume that it was the same with all his previous Eves. Now Licht the Archangel cared about him (hate is a form of care too, Licht), and, most importantly, is not the kind of person to comfort him and take his hand. His reaction to Lawless's memories? He was helping him, and he was actively aware of it. And he didn't do it the nice way, but rather by telling him to get it together.

Which is exactly what Lawless needs.

(Excessive) reassurance and comfort are dangerous for people like him, even if it might feel nice. Lawless needs a strong, firm person to snap him back to reality. Someone like Licht.

Alright, that got out of hand. TLDR; Licht is the best thing that could have happened to Lawless and I have obsession issues.

“The last words your soulmate says to you are tattooed on your skin” AU but with Suegiku

So Tecchou goes his entire life assuming that he will kill his soulmate one day. It makes sense, right? The last words they will say to him are challenging him to a fight, and he’s strong, let alone has literally a sword-related supernatural ability. It’s the logical conclusion.

And to avoid that, his younger self made a promise to himself; he won’t try to look for his soulmate, he will just pretend he doesn’t have one. He won’t fall in love. And to his surprise, it isn’t too difficult, he doesn’t seem to be interested in anyone anyway, and any possible feelings are easy to ignore until they go away on their own.

So when Jouno joins the Hunting Dogs, it’s not a big deal to brush off all the little things he’s feeling about him. He’s objectively attractive, that doesn’t mean anything. Honesty and a strong sense of justice are admirable traits regardless of the person, right? (Sure, his methods need some adjustment, but Tecchou will gladly help him with that.) It’s only natural to be curious about him, isn’t it? Teruko probably thinks about him just as often. And she’s probably just as convinced that his eyes are as beautiful as the rest of him, and would really like to see if she’s right, too. As the stronger and more experienced one, it’s normal to want to protect him, too, and spend nights at his bed or in front of doors at the hospital whenever he gets hurt. Just, you know, normal teammate stuff. His feelings more persistent than usual, but that’s normal as well, right? They’re partners after all, so it makes sense that this small crush, if he can call it that, wouldn’t wear off as quickly as his previous ones did.

So when he hears Jouno say those words to him at the airport, it catches him completely off-guard.

That’s not real, right? He probably misunderstood, or this is some sort of mistake. Jouno can’t possibly be his soulmate, he hates him, or Tecchou doesn’t love him either. He was so careful after all, right? He has never seen Jouno’s tattoo, he was equally scared it would sound like something he would say and something he would never say, and besides that, Jouno wouldn’t have shown it to him anyway. So he can just assume, but there’s no way he didn’t misunderstand, right? They didn’t even get as far as actually fighting, so...

It’s not urgently important, though, is it? If he needs to act, he will do so, anyway. If Jouno is in danger, he will protect him, and he’ll have enough time to figure things out later.

But Jouno is going to be safe. They will chase after those terrorists together, and Tecchou doesn’t need to worry until then. There will probably be some complications with the ADA, and he will protect him when he comes back, like he always does.

But for now, he doesn’t need to worry. Jouno is going to be safe. He is with their commander, after all.

Hiya! I found your page a bit ago and I love how you write! I was wondering if I could get a bsd match up please?

I’m an ambivert(I think-), I’m very quiet and awkward around new people but if I click with them I’ll become very outgoing. I can be loud and very sarcastic(as well as threatening but it’s all just jokes-). I’m typically a very funny and joking person, while I can also be calm and have deep conversations with anyone lol. I also might not be the best comforter but I’ll listen to someone rant for hours on end and give advice if I think of any.

I’m intro a bunch of creative things; drawing, writing, editing, etc. I also love music, any type, but I seem to really like electric or rock(never metal and country is rare).

I saw someone put a description of their appearance so I guess I’ll put one-? I’m 5’0 with shoulder length, wavy brown hair and light blue eyes.

would likely tease you for being all shy when you meet new people, considering he knows how loud and outgoing you can be. speaking of, the two of you wreak havoc. kunikida hates the both of you (/lh) because of your tendencies to go along with each others jokes (which, considering this is dazai we're talking about, will often involve kunikida)

but considering that side of dazai is more of a facade, or just an "outside personality" (i feel like that doesn't make sense SOB but like how you'd probably act differently around people ig), he's glad to have someone who understands his more serious side. probably going to spark quite a few conversations about the meaning of life, or possibilities for what the afterlife may be like. maybe psychology too idk i feel like dazai would like psychology (heard it here first from... your local dazai kinnie psychology student, wow i wonder why i think he likes psych)

dazai's practically the same with listening to rants, the fact that you're so similar to him in that way is comforting in itself because he knows that if you were to come to him with problems, you would understand that he would jump straight to advice rather than sit there and be a comforting prescence for you. that way he wouldn't feel like something he couldn't give was being expected of him. that being said, he is really good with physical comfort, he's very affectionate; he just doesn't have the words

he does give really good advice though. you have a problem that can be fixed with logic? you're going to be absolutely fine. probably the one downside is that he's pretty harsh with his advice on people problems, like if you're struggling with a friend he doesn't know all that well, he'd probably say something like "and if you try everything and they still don't change their behaviour, you'd be better off without them" (he's usually right, just fails to account for how it may be hard for you to let them go if it got to that)

really interested in the things you make, when he sees you working on something creative he'll never fail to ask about it. or cheekily stay there watching until you mention what you're working on without him saying anything. he'd also just ask you to draw him, and probably throw in some joke about how he's always thought his true calling was modelling. as long as your comfortable with him doing so, he'll end up showing off your works to other members of the agency. "my [nickname] is so talented!"

will definetely take every opportunity to tease you for your height (he's 5'11), given you're not self conscious about it. "do you need me to lift you up to reach that shelf?" "hold onto me in this crowd, if we get separated i don't think I'd be able to spot you" so just kick his shins for it, god knows he deserves it (/lh)

he probably gives you kisses on the top of your head though. and probably picks you up to kiss you.

i unfortunately, do not have many headcanons for him at all however, general opinion over said character: i think people don't talk about him and beast!elise enough, imo. they fascinate me and i like seeing a universe where mori strays off of the port mafia boss pass and becomes the orphanage director, not to mention he seems to become a better person? though because of the little content we get of them (and it's on the last volume, iirc) we don't really get good grasps of their characters. i'd love to write a fic with him taking care of the orphans and atsushi though

My predictions on BSD getting animated going forward

I’ll be taking a look at the novel page counts (Japanese and English) and comparing them to the screen time they’ve gotten so far and then using this to predict how long the remaining light novel adaptations will be (approximately). At the end will also be my rough prediction/hopes for the order of some of these being adapted. I say some because I have yet to read what there is so far of the gaiden novel translations, the main story manga has essentially still been on the DOA arc almost since where the anime left off, and I personally think that it’s currently too soon for Storm Bringer (aside from money purposes).

Note, most of this was written well before the anime 5th anniversary livestream but the announcements wound up not affecting it. I then of course made adjustments as needed account for the novel content we do have so far, both in Japanese and in English (officially).

Page to Episode Count

Not counting the afterward, ads, etc for the English/US copy, Japanese is including it

Also all eng page counts are using the Yen Press release and jp page counts are taken from the fandom wiki

*148 is purely counting the Untold Origins portion of the novel. If we also count the A Day at the Agency short story that’s included before it (56 pages), then we get the full 203

Also the English page count for BEAST was noted before the English release date but after page counts have been posted by affiliated retailers, so subtract a couple pages from the written count of 176 for the time being to account for the afterward and possible character sheets being included

Now that we have our page to episode counts (as of April 5th, 2021), let’s find the actual content run time of what we do have animated so far.

Seasons 1-3 and the OVA all have the same episode length/duration. Each episode is 23 minutes, and we can subtract 3 minutes on average from that to account for the OP and ED being played. This leaves us with an average of 20 minutes of BSD story content per episode. So on average, each of the first 3 seasons contain 240 minutes, or 4 hours, worth of story content.

Dead Apple’s total run time is 91 minutes, with the OP and ED making up 9 of those minutes. However, we do have a bit of the story content being played while the ED is playing (as sometimes happens in the anime as well). To keep the math simple, I’ll be approximating story content time at 82 minutes.

Apply these numbers to the novels that have been animated so far and this is (approximately) what we get:

Now let’s use these numbers to predict the screen time needed for the other novels

Note that we can’t really use Entrance Exam as a fair measure because of how much got cut out (just compare the run time of it to Dark Era and it speaks for itself). However, the numbers for Dark Era and Dead Apple are the best ones to use, as they both have minimal changes between anime and novel and both have official English translations currently available. Take out the approximate time taken up by OP/ED and and the numbers pretty much match up.

So with that being said, we can estimate Untold Origins (only) at approximately 3 eps/60 min and 55 Minutes at 1h 40-55min/100-115 min or 5-6 eps if it doesn’t get a movie. We can also estimate the A Day at the Detective Agency short story at the beginning of Untold Origins to take up about 1 ep, probably even a bit less.

1+ 3 + 5-6 = 9-10 episodes which isn’t enough for a full single cour season unless they all get put into one big OVA season, but also 10-11 eps (or less) seasons are a thing (ie. Fugou Keiji: Balance Unlimited, Blood Lad, Black Butler: Book of Circus, The Seven Deadly Sins: Signs of a Holy War, FLCL)

My personal predictions/hopes for the anime adaptation timeline going forward

This is considering the manga content, current “pausing/stopping points” what wouldn’t be too awkward, each of the novels relevancy/necessity to the main story manga, and assuming we continue with single cour (12-13 ep) seasons

Hopefully/ideally a 55 Minutes movie

S4: ch 54-70

Early S5 (preferably) or end of S4: Untold Origins or A Day at the Agency

S5: ch 71-88/around where we are now?

A Day at the Agency can, in my opinion at least, be chucked in at any point either as a single episode OVA or as the light novel content for s4 (maybe not even taking a full episode and then starting ch 54 in the last few minutes for example). Keep in mind that the current DOA arc is a long one and has plenty to it, so personally I think it may even be better to not include a novel adaptation in a future S4, as it would likely already be a right squeeze content wise. Remember, we also have a few XX.5 chapters that are continuations of the chapter directly before them.

I still need to read what’s currently available of the gaiden novel fan translations but it can probably be adapted at any point as well. I’m estimating approximately 5-6 eps as an OVA series. I don’t really think it would get a movie, partially because you can make it only so long, especially since it’s an anime movie and unlike Storm Bringer, it doesn’t have Chuuya to practically guarantee the profit.

BEAST also doesn’t directly impact the main story and can be adapted at virtually any point. However, seeing as we do have a live action confirmed for it and it’s page count lines up very closely with Dark Era, it can be either 4 eps or (more likely in my opinion) a movie, as it can be considered almost stand alone content.

Personally, I believe it is currently way too soon to animate Storm Bringer as it came out only a little over a month ago (as of writing this) and has minimal plot necessity as of ch 91, but I do believe it should be either split into 2 movies (a part 1 and part 2) or it would need 8 episodes, likely as an OVA season. If it were to get animated sooner than 55 Minutes or Untold Origins, which I believe to be very unlikely, I feel that it would almost certainly be driven by the financial gains of Chuuya being included, and his popularity alone. Reminder, SB is about Chuuya and not SKK. Dazai’s appearance in SB is proportionally a very small percentage and he’s not even mentioned in the official plot summary.

However, you can argue that SB is starting to have some relevance now, with the recent mention of the Order of the Clock Tower in ch 90 and the increased relevance of sealed ability weapons in ch 91. However, I really do believe that you can’t adapt Storm Bringer before 55 Minutes because of Standard Island and its treaty, it also talks about sealed ability weapons, knowing who Wells is, and 55 Minutes canonically takes place during the “downtime” portion of S3. In fact, here’s Asagiri’s words directly from the Afterward (translation by Yen Press):

“this volume didn’t take place in the past, but rather sometime after the tenth volume of the manga. In other words, it’s a tale about the ‘usual’ detective agency in novel format.” (55 minutes, p 237)

Untold Origins also should be adapted sooner rather than later (at least compared to SB in my opinion) because it’s about Ranpo and Fukuzawa’s shared past, which becomes increasingly relevant ch 70 onwards, as well as the need for the ADA being founded (which ties in with Yosano’s backstory in ch 65-66).

In regards to whether I think each of these would be better suited to a movie adaptation or as multiple regular length anime episodes, it’s mainly due to page count and partly due to the budget difference between the two, as well as how difficult I think it would be to animate each of these based on what needs to be drawn. The anime industry isn’t the fastest to switch to newer technology, hence why we see issues with 3D blending sometimes. I really do think that at the very least, 55 Minutes deserves the movie budget because of how detailed and complex the architecture of Standard Island is described as, as well all the mechanical parts needed for the final battle of the novel. Hate the lizard mouths introduced in Dead Apple all you want, but you can’t deny that the 3D cgi was blended very smoothly. For any of the other novels to be movies, it’s more so because gaiden and BEAST can be considered their own stand alone stories that don’t rely too heavily on the main story in terms of when they take place and get adapted. I feel that SB is more likely to get its own season or an OVA season more so due to its length, but multiple part anime movies have also been done before (ie. the Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel movies), so it’s not entirely impossible. Especially considering that merely having any Chuuya screen time means that you can expect the profit and popularity to really go up, especially with SKK being on screen together (regardless of whether you love or hate how the fandom tends to push a shipping POV on them).

These are all of course just my hopes and predictions and estimates based on information currently available, so take them with some salt. I’d love to hear opinions on how, when, and why each of the currently non animated novels should be adapted going forward. Also please stop begging the relevant BSD official Twitter pages for SB to be animated next and go read the other light novels you Chuuya simp

Winter 2021 Anime Opinions

As always its that time of the year I pretend to be an anime connoisseur and leave my review on this seasons anime so take it with a grain of salt asdfgh from the one I enjoyed the least to the most.

Wave!!: Surfing Yappe!! (TV)

You are seeing currently the only probably best thing about Wave asdfghj Tanaka bby I am SO sorry you got stuck here,,,,, Its bad because I had so many expectations for Wave but it just...... isn’t very good? The characters feel 2 dimensional, animation is veeeery average and the plot is all over the place? Dont even get me started on the Shou situation plot device that they just brushed over and went on with and,,,,,big sigh

Urasekai Picnic

To be honest is not very fair to compare this one to the rest as ive only watched the first 2 eps but ill catch up eventually asdfghj its not bad just that the plot didnt capture me as much as I hoped but the two main characters cutiess the plot just confuses me asdfgh but I don't have much to say about it

Yakusoku no Neverland 2nd Season

The only reason this is here is because she. The main girl I cant remember the name of sucks and main dude is very normal asdfgh the plot is basically “Want people to like you? change everything about yourself and become a normie robot!!!” ASDFGHJ Like its so over the top and cringe at times it becomes very confusing but hey I am not caught up either so I may change opinions (x doubt tho)

2.43: Seiin Koukou Danshi Volley-bu

From this point onwards I basically like everything. 2.43 Started suuuuper strong for me, definitely thought it would be one of my favs this season but as the eps went by I just.... kinda lost interest asdfgh? Like its not bad, but its a sort of mix between Stars Align and Haikyuu where I would have loved a more character based story with dark subplots like Stars Align but got the parts I always criticize about Haikyuu were there was a point I didn't really knew any of the characters? ASDFGH like the enemy team is super cool and Love their designs but if you ask me to tell you anything about them I already forgot rip. Its still cute and the animation is cool but yeah it kind of disappointed me in the end a bit ;w;

Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season

AOT Is so sexci because it keeps on hurting me and I come back every-time for it ASDFGHJ Not much to say that hasn't been said, characters are super interesting, plot is a bit confusing at times for me to follow but amazing and I just :))) could go on about certain characters :))))) but I wont :))))

Wonder Egg Priority

Wonder egg priority is very talked about right now so I wont get too much into it other than definitely give it a watch if you like the more philosophical and “makes you reflect on your life choices” sort of anime ASDFGHJ the visuals are stunning and the characters very well build, although I am very confused at times I am still enjoying it tons ^^ Trigger warning however for some heavy topics I recommend checking the warnings before watching it <3

Kemono Jihen

I LOVE THEM OKaY? asdfghjk Kemono Jihen gives me the found family topes and I eat them all right up, I love the characters , their designs, the plot, everything. To be fair tho, I did enjoy the manga more than the anime but maybe its a pacing thing? idk but I definitely recommend 100% taking on the manga and maybe after watch the anime but I am enjoying it tons!!

Kai Byoui Ramune

This one may come as a surprise lol?? Like I haven't seen a single soul talk about Ramune but like??? I am actually enjoying it a lot?? and look forward every week for the ep? asdfghj Like yes I will be the first to admit the animation isn't really the beeeeest out there but the plot is funny while also being serious, the characters are quirky and interesting to keep the flow going and I am liking the undertone heavy messages? the soundtrack also slaps imo and yeah I would definitely say to watch the first ep and if you like that sort of dynamic take it up on the rest!

I★Chu: Halfway Through the Idol

Okay I will be the first one to admit this is just me being trash for the idol shows but like?? its my list so I get to decide which found family I am screaming about next ASDFGHJ. As an avid A3 stan this gave me serious vibes of my boys (plus they were made form the same company so like not very surprised there loll) and like I think the characters are cute with adorable relationships and cute songs and its just a lighthearted show I sit down every Wednesday and smile through the 25 minutes so yes I Chu deserves a high spot and yes I recommend it even if it has like a 6.3 on myanimelist sksksks

Dr. Stone: Stone Wars

Look at Gen!!!! enough reasons to watch dr stone!!!! ASDFGH but in all seriousness I....... love them okAy? The plot is amazing and the characters are super entertaining (hiiii Ukyo Gen Senku and Chrome muak) and although it may seem a bit slower paced than first season the arc is gonna get better and better and the finale is gonna be great if they stick to the manga. Only sad that I dont get to see my pirate fuckboy but we better be getting a third season

Bungou Stray Dogs Wan!

ASDFGHJ It may be my love for Hayato speaking but ive absolutely loves Skate Leading Stars, I love the group, the main characters, the ships, the routines and its so pretty and they are in love and like the competition and asdfgh its gOoD OKaY??? Beastars 2nd Season

I think we are all sleeping on Beastars brushing it off as a furry show. I don’t speak enough about it and I am not one to go about poetic cinemaness on main but beastars is a very poetic cinema show and yall sleeping on it. Coming from someone who was uncomfortable at first with the whole animal relationships part at first, just know beastars is so much more than that, it has a complicated plot with critics about the society within the show with amazing characters, great soundtrack and animation plus banger plot. Pina, Jack, Juno and Legoshi best characters and every week I look forward for the next eps so I hope yall go give it some love.

SK8 The Infinity

If it wasnt clear from my spam every Saturday that I am absolutely in love with this show I dont know what to tell you ASDFGHJ. Sk8 has an amazing range of characters I find fascinating, specially Reki, very much so everything Reki asdfgh but yeah!! Its super entertaining with an interesting plot and its definetely becoming one of my favorite animes because the amount of times ive rewatched the episodes to cope is kind of embarrassing lmaooo, definetely give it a try although I understand its not for everyone but like,,,,, do it for Reki? 🤧👉🏻👈🏻
