watching that spiderman movie despite having a tic disorder that is triggered by flashing lights/loud sound. will update if i die.
5 notes · View notes
Originally we thought my tics were from some sort of immune response just based on my limited research, but I ended up getting a referral to a neurologist instead of an immunologist and that’s how I got my OCD diagnosis. Tic disorders are often linked to OCD among other things (could be comorbid, could be causative, idk how it all works).
What’s cool is the longer I’ve had tics the more I see how they might be related to OCD. If I have a tic that feels wrong, I then have to practice it until it feels right, which is a fairly common compulsion.
Keep in mind that tics are involuntary—they can be suppressed but it’s incredibly difficult and uncomfortable—but practicing the tic, kind of like stimming, is voluntary. I don’t tic and then keep ticcing because it was wrong the first time. I tic and then I am ✨compelled✨ to practice by the feeling of wrongness.

I am not an expert. But I do believe that we should be careful to include people in the neurodivergent umbrella. We are stronger together.

Miguel O’Hara x Tourettes/ticcing!reader
Warnings/tags: Unspecified tic disorder, mentions of painful motor tics, pretty much all tics mentioned are motor tics. Fluff- a bit of hurt comfort if you squint.
Miguel x reader with tics!!
If you had any sort of tics with your face- like twitching or scrunching up your nose, sticking out your tongue, blinking, flickering, or squinting your eyes, biting your lips, tongue, or the inside of your cheek- he’d probably find it cute. Not because of the fact that it was a tic, but he's the type to find just random shit adorable.
He’s the type to just be looking over at you, just watching (read: admiring. Practically making heart eyes at you) and noticing little things. Like how your nose will scrunch up from a passerby’s overly strong perfume, or how you’ll squeeze your eyes shut as a tic, and how you’ll absentmindedly worry your lip while you work on your computer- and he’ll find it all adorable.
Miguel’s perceptiveness wasn’t limited to that- he’d also notice when your tics were starting to hurt. And he hated it- he absolutely dreaded seeing you in pain, especially over something he couldn’t help you with.
Of course, he would still try. Usually in sweet little ways that you wouldn’t even notice until a while into your relationship.
He’d try to distract you- a movie, a board game, whatever he thought might hold your attention enough for your tic cycle to break- or at least ease up a bit.
Miguel may not understand how your tics feel, but he would never doubt your words. Tics are hard to describe, and even if you are able to put the feeling into words for him, you wouldn’t need to. If you tell him tics are painful, he believes you. It’s as simple as that.
If you ever tried to avoid physical contact because of your tics acting up, Miguel wouldn’t let you get away with it- at least not without a good reason.
If the reason you were avoiding cuddling or sitting right next to him is because it limits your range of motion and keeps you from being able to tic- he’d relent. But if your reasoning was something along the lines of “I’d love to, but I don’t want to annoy you with my tics”… He’d be all over you- probably pulling you into his lap and making a show of how much bigger than you he was- how he doesn’t even feel your squirming and ticcing.
You’d be sentenced to lap jail, and probably held there until the end of whatever show, movie or activity you two were doing. Miguel would keep you wrapped up in his arms or a blanket (likely with your arms and or whatever you needed sticking out so you were free to tic as much as you need) and be extra sure not to pay any attention to your tics during that time- wanting to firmly dismiss any worries of your tics annoying him from your mind.

AFTER 8 YEARS I HAVE OFFICIALLY BEEN MEDICALLY RECOGNIZED FOR MY PHYSICAL DISABILITIES!!!
I've struggled with motor tics my whole life and have officially been diagnosed with a tic disorder, unspecified at the moment.
For 8 years I've struggled with chronic muscle and joint pain and while I don't have a complete diagnosis it has finally been medically recognized.
Progress does happen.

Greydancer! he/him, he's a trans guy. he's an age stunted adult. he's an bipolar schizophrenic wolf with BPD. he's in disability program Cheese is in and is crushing on them. Greydancer is heavily medicated and sleeps a lot. even though he's on antipyschotics, he has tic disorder unspecified (like us) he also has an ED... ( like us.. why do we do this to our paras...) he loves Cheese very very much. he loves being near them and spending time with bun. he hates the fact he's shorter than Cheese. Cheese is very short standing in their paracosm furry / a anthro forms 4'8 and Greydancer is 4'6". Greydancer has horrible abusive parents and lives in a supportive housing situation (that we're trying to get into IRL) and he's struggling but he's a a lovely plush para. man we need more posts and video lore drops.. talking about our paras is amazing.. some people actually wanna hear about it?? weird..

Intro (attempt)
Hello! My name is Div, and I use he/him pronouns. I'm a trans guy and I'm bi, constantly in doubt about where I lie within the aroace spectrum.
I am pretty new to tumblr so I'm always open to comments about site etiquette and misuse of functions and stuff.
Lately I've been posting a lot about disability, I've found a really cool community here. I use forearm crutches in my day to day life due to an undiagnosed disorder that brings me a lot of pain in my hips and sometimes knees. I have an informal arthritis diagnosis but it isn't enough for me to access disability services, so please if you ever see me complaining about inaccessibility don't tell it can be solved through them, I know, it makes me so mad.
I am also very obviously neurodivergent, probably autistic and formally diagnosed with OCD, anxiety and depression and a tic disorder. I also had a tentative diagnosis of "unspecified personality disorder" during a moment of crisis, but my psychiatrist has never mentioned it to me again LOL.
I do also follow specifically the spiderverse and good omens tags on here so you might see random posts about those.
I am always open to asks and questions but I reserve the right to my privacy and therefore to not answer. I will not engage in discourse that goes nowhere, everyone with an open mind is welcome to a conversation, arguing for the sake of arguing will probably just be deleted.
