one of the funniest things when you start studying theatre design (at our school anyway) is that u come in and for your first few scenography designs youre like im gonna use screens ,,,,, —and projection.... this is how i’m going to enhance the impact of my performance 🤯🧠💯 & then you go to theatre productions in which they use screens and projection & ur like All My Teachers Were Right This Sucks Severe Ass

#^so says guy who crucially is using screens in his concept rn #but its different bc the screen itself is the medium as opposed to enhancing theatre cause like the thing is #and this sounds fucking pretentious until you actually pay attn to it #but the thing is that when ur trying to balance screen/projection with live action ur projection is going to eat shit absolutely every time #nothing beats the tension of live theatre & if youre attempting to mix it too often it'll end up in comparison #(this is if you use the projection cut n dry i once saw a performance where the projection was done really well actually #but it wasnt so much a balance btwn the two things as it was like. certain scenes were a video the performer just danced along to #and it was more so about his individual experience vs the experience others have that he cant articulate on his own #it was rly fucking good it was called the history of the korean western theatre it was stellar) #but also like the thing i just left was an opera that used screens practically instead of doing anything on the stage #which is SO bewildering to me #there were a few more things wrong with it but the biggest thing to me was like #in these videos they were showing (during the performance of the scenes) it was basically the scene that was playing #except with an attempt at a real costume and somewhat more of an effort when it comes to proxemics #whereas on stage itself it was black clothes (not even interesting shapes) and people talking At each other #which not only does this become a really boring back drop for an even more boring live action part (which is nevertheless still more #compelling than the video) they were also speaking the lines in the videos just with the sound removed #so often it felt like you were watching out of sync videos #and also like even the costumes in the videos were boring as hell bc it was just patterns printed on top of fabric #which can work at times but not like this it was all so .... 2 dimensional but like quite literally #its not even that bad to be honest like ive seen far worse things its just a lot more egregious cause its unreal expensive and also doesnt #even seem to try #(+ im quite sure the director of this opera is my theatre history professor's dad & i am yelling & screaming imagining the family dinners) #(like all the actors were also white & it was the story of the indian queen which is abt mexico & peruvian incas & my prof is like. so #hyper socially aware this wouldnt ever ever ever fly with her #plus she's really creative & we saw a play by her last semester and its night & fucking day love)

Imo this is the most likely event for Sunday, and let me explain why. (leaks from the QSMP discord)

First of all, earlier Quackity mentioned being on a plane. Why is this relevant? Well the only way to get to Korea is by plane. However, 14 hours later, he tweeted that he had lied about the plane. Now why would he do this?

This is, of course, because BTS had been testing the mod and realized that Korean wasn't working. For some reason, whoever coded the translate mod had mixed up the language files and replaced Korean with Spanish, specifically Spanish with a Korean accent. (Tbf I don't blame them, the file was named something like QSMP_language_file_v3_finalFINALVERSION_KOR_Korean_Hangul_Accented_Spanish_ESPANOL, and obvi if ur screen is small the last part would get cut off).

Now Quackity is in a predicament. He's very smart, obviously, so he cancelled his plane immediately and actually got a 70% refund even though he was technically canceling within the 24hr window. And then he got in a call with admins. I was actually in this call (they added me on accident) and although I don't speak or understand Spanish I was able to comprehend everything perfectly (they were speaking English).

Basically, they were screwed. BTS themselves had scheduled out time to make a guest appearance on the QSMP, this was huge! MASSIVE!! But the translator wasn't working: what were they going to do? Now naturally my first instinct was oh, well they can speak English, right? But I should've held in my trust of Quackity and the entire admin team, bcuz their creativity and problem solving is as always off the charts.

One of the admins (not going to name anyone for privacy reasons) had been doing a project on their spare time. Eggsonas, of course, have been a trend on and off since the first adoption day. And this admin had been making all sorts of models. It just so happened, by a stroke of luck, that they had made 7 bts eggs!!!!! Everyone was so excited about it, the entire call was shouting for a good minute lol. I actually had to take out my earbuds.

Eggs, of course, cannot speak. This solved the translator problem flawlessly, as the sign and book translators were working as normal. It also gave the BTS members an extra 2 hours to play on the server! (previously their managers had allocated 2 hours for them to find/create minecraft skins, which obviously is now unneeded.) It's a win-win-win.

Now on to analyzing the teasers: firstly, you'll notice the Update accounts tweets. These are, of course, referencing how bts have both touched and eaten ice and ice cream. Also, as true fans will know, bts just recently broke their freezer and had to mop everything up. It's a nice red herring given the previous ice imagery in teasers, and we all know Quackity loves his trickery.

Secondly, the seven outlined in grass. Grass has been a prominent feature in many BTS music videos. Some say it's even a staple of their work. For example, in their 4th music video there is grass on the ground, to represent how growing up has made them more grounded. Nextly, the seven. Obviously there are seven members, but combined with grass this is actually a double hint: BTS was active for seven years between 2013 and 2020 during which they released songs. This is a special number for them because of these events.

Now obviously, I don't have all the answers. My prediction on the discourse, for example, was completely made up. But i hope this gives you all a sense of what to expect come Sunday. (also please don't tell any qsmp admins I'm leaking this info 😭😭😭😭)

Korean War just seems so…unmythologizable? like obviously people do. Pro-American liberals and capitalists see it as the defense of an anticommunist free republic, mls see it as the defence of a proletariat state against the encroachment of empire. but really it was just senseless bloodshed. sad, broken hopes of democracy; soldiers fed on the dream of unbridled freedom after a horrendous occupation used as nothing more than cannon fodder by heroes turned rivalling petty despots. i dunno, i’m sorry for drunk ask-ing in ur in box. but like. history sucks. not the academic study. just the knowledge that all these people just like me. and i think my life so big so beautiful. but their lives were too. and they ended, unimportant, unmythologizable. in the cold uncaring mud. and for what? for dfucking what???

Yeah, I think the mythologizing on both sides hits a wall when you dig deeper into the historical realities of the time, which has left me in the somewhat unenviable position of disagreeing with what feels like basically everyone on this

The pro-American liberal idea of the Korean War as a just war in defense of a sovereign nation falls apart pretty easily - the split between North and South Korea was recent and done by imperial powers (the US and USSR) as a means of demarcating their respective zones of control, not a true split in any sense. The US went out of its way to sabotage any attempt at reconciliation in the years following the split, and the guy they put in charge arguably had a lot less popular legitimacy than his communist counterpart (and embarked on a campaign of right wing political violence to shore up his incredibly weak position)

So if you squint and ignore the context, you can say that the US was defending a sovereign nation, but it's one they created with no popular legitimacy at all, with a leader that brutalized his people. And none of it was necessary! The thing about the overwhelming power of the United States and its massive fucking military is that the whole "we need a right wing dictator to shore up this country against communism" routine is so transparently because the US wanted to support right wing dictators, not because it was in any sense necessary to ensure that the country wasn't communist. If anything, doing the whole sham democracy thing where you force everyone to vote for the asshole you put in charge massively benefits the communists! No wonder there was a massive insurgency going on

This is without even getting into the horrifying details of how exactly the war was prosecuted

And then there's the ML narrative, which correctly identifies the mass of popular support behind Kim Il-sung due to his time fighting against the Japanese occupation and conveniently elides historical details like "which side actually invaded the other, starting the full blown war" and other such unimportant details, like the subsequent structure of the North Korean government making it virtually impossible for anything resembling democratic influence on the political process to occur

If there's something to be said for Syngman Rhee, it's that his grandson is not currently ruling SK. He was deposed in 1960, and then after decades of political turmoil and various deeply shitty leaders (again, much of which probably could've been avoided if the US hadn't insisted on Rhee as their man in the 1940s) SK eventually became a place where you could vote and were a lot less likely to be the victim of political violence.

As for Democratic People's Republic of Korea, well. If your take on the Korean War is "I wish that instead of just the people of North Korea, everyone in Korea would have to live under the current North Korean government" I don't really know what to say about that. North Korea is repressive and isolated in the extreme - if you think that is the result of "people's committees" and the North Korean population's natural devotion to the Kim family spanning three generations now, you are at best a mark.

So yeah, it's a tragedy - the Japanese occupation of Korea was fucking horrifying, then the US and USSR arrived to artificially split the country with no serious attempt at reunification while putting two real bastards in charge, and then it escalated into a shooting war where millions of people died just for the 38th parallel to still be the dividing line.

So who benefited? Everyone but the Koreans, I suppose. The US gained a client state, managed to use the UN to do whatever it wanted, and demonstrated its commitment to suppressing communism via military force. The USSR gained a client state and saw the US spend a bunch of its military capacity on a war that cost the USSR very little and wasn't even won by the US. China got a buffer zone between it and the US empire and solidified their victory over the KMT, albeit at tremendous cost.

Hopefully someday the Korean War will end.

aight so the thing about korean grammar is that you refer to members of your family (your mom, your dad, your siblings, your dog, your house) with 우리 (uri), which means we/our. so basically it’s like communism. if you’re joy hong you would call jay 우리 오��� (uri oppa) with the english translation ‘my older brother’ and the literal translation ‘our older brother’. 

it’s the same for husband/wife, you would call ur husband 우리 남편 (uri nampyeon) and your wife 우리 아내 (uri anae), it’s like this bc you share them with your family? so basically yeah communism if you catch my drift. jay is joy’s oppa but he’s also steve hong’s son and kitae’s little brother. he’s part of the family whether you want it or not

this is not the case with boyfriends/girlfriends, because you call them 제 남자 / 여자 친구 (je namja / yeoja chingu), which translates to MY boy/girlfriend. yes. you do not share your bf/gf with your family bc they ain’t a part of it yet. jay has definitely accidentally mentioned daniel to joy at least once as “제 형석이” (my hyungseokie) and joy’s been like oh, he’s YOUR hyungseokie huh.

meanwhile daniel has accepted jay as part of his family (they celebrate chuseok together?? and chuseok is for your family?? i said this on twt already but daniel and jay deliberately spending chuseok together suggests that they consider each other family one way or another, hence on top of jay calling daniel “my hyungseok” i raise you this:

The first issue though, is that S.K's main exports aren't anything average consumers buy. According to investopedia.com, the largest exports are "electronics, automobiles, telecommunications, shipbuilding, chemicals, and steel"���.you not buying tteokbbeoki and banana milk from hmart isn't going to do anything. BuT MaSk KpOp AnD pOp CuLtUrE iS a HuGe InDuStRy- yah sure it is but the amount of boycotting it would take for the kpop industry to cause any change to the situation is insane. You boycotting Hybe or BigHit or whatever is not going to do anything.
