(The borderlands anon from however long ago)
So, I finished watching the show a couple days ago, because there were a couple things that showed up consistently in fics i that I didn’t understand (blood blossoms, some of the baddies, a handful of fenton inventions, etc)
First off, I still very much prefer pitch pearl to amethyst ocean or whatever the hell it’s called
And also, do you know where pitch pearl as a ship came from? I know there’s the episode with fun and super, but is that all there really was? Or were there more early fandom headcannons that supported them as separate beings?
Hello again! Sorry this took so long, I wasn’t sure how to answer 😅
Canon did a poor job with AO. I would even say it did it dirty, but it's popular enough it doesn't need that kind of support lol. If you really want to give it a fair shake I’d recommend reading fanfiction for it, but I understand everyone’s preferences are different. I personally don’t ship it because shipping best friends is something I have real issues with, but it’s not a bad ship if you want something that’s soft and makes you feel all warm inside.
Onto pitch pearl tho!
Tbh, I’m not entirely sure myself how pitch pearl as a ship started. I don’t believe it was because of the Fun and Super episode, largely because those two are rarely used in the ship.
I asked someone else, and they thought that moment in What You Want when Phantom was first torn from Fenton as this colorless ghost might have been what started the concept they weren’t one whole person. Because, honestly? This ship goes far, FAR back. A lot of the older fics made Phantom into a voice in Danny’s head or a spirit that could separate from him at will without the need of the Ghost Catcher in order to offer Danny comfort. They had no rules because there weren’t any set way yet. The fact that Phantom could move and think independently from Danny was enough to get people thinking. It wasn't all romantic, most of it was borderline at best. They mostly focused on hurt/comfort and self-love, finding a balance between human and ghost with the occasional kiss thrown in.
Then there’s TUE, where Danny meets his evil future self and learns that his ghost half killed his human half after merging with Plasmius. It definitely gave more credence to the idea there might be more to Danny’s ghost half than simply having ghost powers. It aired before Identity Crisis, so it set the stage with a BOOM and had a much bigger impact on the ship. Phantom being seen as his own person is a bit more credible when he’s willing to kill Danny. It helped that TUE was a VERY popular episode. It drew in a huge crowd, and everyone was curious about what made the ghost half snap like that if he’s supposed to be Danny.
Supporting that idea is that a lot of the older art and fics took a darker view of Phantom in general, seeing him as Danny’s darker half or a ghost out for revenge after being imprisoned for so long. Even the name “pitch pearl” was created with that in mind. I always thought of it as “white hair/black hair” in the same vein as AO taking inspiration from Sam’s purple eyes and Danny’s blue, but when I went searching for the origins for the name, the old explanation set Danny Fenton as white pearl and Phantom as pitch black. The reasoning for that was partly their jumpsuits pre- and post- accident, but also because Fenton is human and “pure” while Phantom is a ghost and dangerous--because without Fenton, Phantom became Dan and destroyed everything.
For obvious and somewhat personal reasons, I don’t subscribe to that. But it does make all the art where Phantom looks evil while holding Danny make sense. I don’t like dark romance, and I’m personally thrilled we moved away from such a dark beginning, but it likely had a hand in the early popularity of pitch pearl.
If I were to guess how else it started when the source has them as one person, I would say it was most likely the fanart? Putting Fenton and Phantom side-by-side has a yin-yang appeal, and when they interact in art, you get the sense that these are two characters, not one. This was really popular when the fandom was much bigger than it is now.
For instance
Tumblr media
Save Our Soul by nycken isn't a shipping piece by any means, but it could very easily give rise to the idea, especially if someone is new to the fandom.
They did not shy away from it being a self-cest ship back then, though. The idea that Phantom wasn't Danny was there, but I don't think anyone looked for evidence in the show to support it. That seems to be something the ship has evolved into rather than something it started from, and it is honestly my favorite way to see it.
I do have many headcanons about how they aren’t the same person in canon if you're interested! There’s the out of sync transformations, the title sequence and how Super and Fun are shown to separate in the Identity Crisis episode, Vlad’s inability to clone Danny, the way Danny talks to himself, just all kinds of things! If you want to hear more about those I'd be happy to answer 😁 (they'd probably be easier too lol)
But yeah, I think it was TUE and fanart. There may have been other factors (I think this was around the time Yu-Gi-Oh and puzzleshipping was popular too) because fandom doesn't exist in a vacuum, but I really couldn't say for sure. It's a ship that means different things for everyone who ships it. I like the psychological questions when they start off as "one" (the bonded peeps version) and enjoy the aus like soooo much, but others like it only for aus, and others like it as a crack ship, and then there are even others who like it as something dangerous. Some people love it for Fun and Super in Identity Crisis because they're just fun caricatures. It's hard to find the origin point when it has so many branches lol

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed, Episode 24, first part
(Masterpost) (Other Canary Stuff)
Tumblr media
Warning: Spoilers for All 50 Episodes!
Banquet Proposal
Manspreading Champion Jin Guangshan is trying to pressure Jiang Cheng into marrying Jiang Yanli into the Jin clan.  Because this is the cultivation world, where everyone reflexively agrees with the most powerful man in the room like he's Frank Sinatra and they're the Rat Pack, the whole room starts pressuring Jiang Cheng to agree.
Tumblr media
Then Wei Wuxian comes striding in and suggests the radical idea of asking a woman's opinion about her own marriage. He tries to pressure Jiang Cheng into agreeing with him. Today is Pressure Jiang Cheng Day. Every day for the next several months is going to be Pressure Jiang Cheng Day.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng stands up and agrees that it should be left up to his sister, citing his late father's beliefs so that everyone will know that this unconventional behavior isn't his fault. This is a pickle for him; he knows his sister wants to marry Jin Zixuan, but it's not a good political alliance for the Jiangs right now, which is the opposite of the situation when his parents first made the match. While saying all this he takes the opportunity to get in a dig at Wei Wuxian for meddling.
Jiang Yanli sadly says, thanks for the offer, but the Jiang Clan is just coming back from being massacred, and I have, like, SO much laundry, I can't even. It's not that I don't want to be with you, Jixuan honey; I would just rather scrub blood off of the courtyard.
Tumblr media
Jin Zixuan suddenly realizes that being dumped in front of a bunch of your peers is not as fun when you’re catching instead of pitching.
Clan Leader Yao is completely flummoxed by this whole "let young people decide things" concept and hopes it goes out of fashion soon.
Tumblr media
The only really happy person in the room is Jin Guangyao, who is looking for a scapegoat for his upcoming villainy. Wei Wuxian will be a perfect fit.
(more behind the cut!)
Chillin Like a Villain
Jin Guangyao and Jin Guangshan have a villany-plotting conversation that's mostly as boring as every other villainy-plotting conversation.
Tumblr media
Jin Guangyao starts the ground work for blaming stuff on Wei Wuxian, saying that Wei Wuxian was alone with Xue Yang back when the 4th chunk of Yin Iron went missing. This kind of harks back to that moment when Wei Wuxian searched Xue Yang (not, incidentally, alone) and XY asked if he wasn't worried about what people would say if they heard about it.
Jin Guangshan is pretty ready to think badly of WWX, who just crapped on his marriage plans, so he quickly decides that Wei Wuxian’s Yin Tiger amulet is made out of Xue Yang’s Yin Iron, not that it actually, like, matters where it came from? It’s all the same dang metal.
Back to Lotus Pier
Tumblr media
Then we get an establishing shot of the dock in Yunmeng and the subtitle unhelpfully says QISHAN. Not because the scene is in Qishan, but because there are red Wen banners flying that say 岐山 on them, so the subtitle is for the banner, not for the location. Not only are there Wen banners still flying despite their defeat, there are at least six Wen guards standing guard at the dock. Perhaps there is a teensy continuity error here.
The Yunmeng trio return to Lotus Pier with a group of disciples in tow. Leaving aside the boys' (apparent) stealth trip to the ancestral hall in Episode 20, this is their official return to their home and the seat of their clan, having survived the Wen clan's attempt to exterminate them.
Tumblr media
They are battered, bloodied, but not broken and one of them is also broken. But still persevering. I get choked up at this scene every time. Yu Ziyuan and Jiang Fengmian would be pleased with all three of them. Jiang Yanli has supported both of them through all the turmoil, giving them an emotional home even while they were homeless. Jiang Cheng has done the impossible, even more than he himself realizes. And Wei Wuxian has acted as a faithful servant, sacrificing a precious part of himself to save his clan leader.
Tumblr media
The place is a mess, with the evidence of a final battle against the Wens all over the place. As they look around Wei Wuxian thinks back on one of the many times that Jiang Fengmian paid attention to him instead of to Jiang Cheng, and smiles affectionately.   Wei Wuxian is consistently able to remember the good things and smile about them, even when those memories are overlaid by endless trauma.
The three of them look at the Wen symbol on the roof line and the boys get identically angry...
Tumblr media
...starting with the teeth of anger...
Tumblr media
...followed by the fist of anger.
It's a powerful moment; they still do have an awful lot in common, despite everything. Jiang Cheng uses his mother’s weapon to smash the Wen symbol and reclaim his home.
Tumblr media
Jiang Yanli:  The fuck!? Are you trying to slice my face off?
Back to Gusu
Next we get a nice fly-through of the Jingshi, where Lan Wangji is sitting in the side room playing guqin.  In later years he will move the guqin to the living room, while this room gains a wine-drinking table.
Tumblr media
The Lan clan do love their knick-knacks, and this room features several. There's a teapot suspended from a chain over a brazier, with a tied-up fish sculpture for a counterweight, which is definitely not an indication of any future kinks. The brazier is surrounded by Zen sand with some surprisingly untranquil lines raked into it.
Tumblr media
Lan Xichen has dropped by to tell Lan Wangji that the disciples are gossiping about him, saying he’s been checking out books from the library and practicing music. Seriously? The Lans are a sect that focuses on musical cultivation. Practicing music, verrry suspicious. Also, gossip is forbidden, but sure, check up on him.
Tumblr media
In response, Lan Wangji jumps right to "I want to enter the forbidden chamber of the Library"  Lan Xichen asks him why, and he says he wants more music scores.  Lan Xichen, who knows about the secret murder music book, isn't delighted with that answer.  Just then, Lan Qiren summons them, so they table the conversation to go see him.
Tumblr media
Lan Qiren talks about the battle they just went through, and says "I've heard about Wei Ying."  Everybody makes significant faces without clarifying what LQR actually heard about Wei Ying. Lan Qiren then philosophizes about how war is hell, particularly for idioms about eggs and nests. They need to go clean up the leftover resentful energy, but he's sending Lan Xichen on his own, while Lan Wangji gets to stay home and repair/rewrite all of the Lan rules.
Lan Qiren says a bunch of stuff to Lan Wangji about rules, being super hinty without actually coming to the point. He refuses to let Lan Wangji speak or ask questions, while he’s doling out punishment for, basically, thought crime. He wants LWJ to reject Wei Wuxian but he wants him to do it without being directly told.
Tumblr media
To make sure Lan Wangji is extra frustrated, he snarkily refuses to give him permission to read the forbidden books, asking him if he’s already read all of the books in the regular library. Surprisingly, he hasn’t yet; I guess he was busy winning a war while you were in a coma, jerkface.
Tumblr media
Lan Xichen is super on edge during this conversation--scared, even. He's trying to keep the peace, trying to keep Lan Wangji out of trouble, and avoid a confrontation. Lan Wangji is increasingly uninterested in peace, but he follows his brother's unspoken commands, and shuts up.
Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen both really fail as teachers here. Lan Wangji believes that resentful energy is bad. He believes this VERY STRONGLY.  He broke up with his boyfriend for a while because of it. They are punishing him for having doubts, and they’re not giving him any opportunity to talk through those doubts with them. I say “they” because Lan Qiren is the one giving the punishment, but Lan Xichen is silently assenting, and making sure Lan Wangji doesn’t argue.
Tumblr media
As they leave, Lan Qiren stops them to ask Lan Wangji if he understands why he's grounded, and Lan Wangji just looks at him without answering, which would be counted as sass when I was growing up.
Tumblr media
He face says he’s appropriately chagrined, but he’s not. Before the end of this episode, he's going to directly disobey Lan Qiren, and he’s going to go on disobeying him in the future, over and over again.
Tumblr media
Later, when Lan Wangji is alone with the pristine, definitely not in need of repair, rule book, he seems genuinely chagrined. He loves these rules, and has depended on them; that’s why he’s been a model disciple for so long, not because he fears his uncle’s punishments.
Tumblr media
But now he also loves Wei Wuxian. So some of these rules will have to be broken.
Clan Leader Jiang
The Jiang Clan are having the ceremony to install Jiang Cheng as leader.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian is sitting alone, away from all of the other disciples, watching the proceedings rather than participating. His placement in the ceremony is very strange for a head disciple.
Tumblr media
But it’s perfect for a ghost.
Later, Jiang Cheng is practicing his "yelly boss" leadership style, and being extra grumpy because Wei Wuxian is slacking off all the time. Jiang Yanli is having trouble deciding if she should be more worried about the brother with the drinking problem or the brother with the anger problem.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng is miserable and feels completely unsure of himself but he's plowing the fuck ahead.
You might put your love and trust on the line It's risky, people love to tear that down Let 'em try Do it anyway Risk it anyway And if you're paralyzed by a voice in your head It's the standing still that should be scaring you instead Go on and Do it anyway Do it anyway
Help Me to Help You
Wei Wuxian is hanging out in a tavern window, being a thirst trap and hitting on passing Lans.
Tumblr media
Lan Xichen joins him for a drink and a lecture. Things start off fairly well, with Wei Wuxian being impressed with his ability to drink wine, and attempting his usual flirt-tease-charm routine, bragging about smuggling wine into Cloud Recesses.
Tumblr media
Where Lan Wangji would be adorably flustered and hostile/sexy in responding to that, Lan Xichen just shuts him down with a look, and Wei Wuxian suddenly realizes that he's talking to an adult clan leader who isn't here for his shit, and is a lot more worldy than Lan Wangji is.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian knocks it off and apologizes. Then he talks fondly about Lan Wangji, saying he wants to come visit him, and daydreams cutely about dominating him  supervising his rule-copying work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LXC says that he should come listen to new music that LWJ has composed, and the tone of the conversation changes completely. Wei Wuxian is on his guard, and he's getting ready to throw down.  He asks if LXC came to Yunmeng specifically to hassle him, and LXC...kinda says no?
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian smiles sweetly while he asks if everyone in the Lan Clan is a meddler.
Tumblr media
Lan Xichen has never encountered the nasty version of Wei Wuxian before, but he's a grown up, and he's very, very hard to provoke, unlike his brother. He cuts to the chase and says he's got something to say, whether WWX listens or not.
He says Wei Wuxian shouldn't be self-centered because the people he cares about are affected by his choices. This gets through to him, for a second. But then LXC offers to help him go back to sword cultivation, and Wei Wuxian is done listening.
Tumblr media
He tells Lan Xichen he doesn't want to go back to sword work, and LXC is stunned into silence for a moment as Wei Wuxian takes his wine and starts to walk away.  Lan Xichen makes a last ditch attempt to warn him about the dangers of the yin tiger amulet, and WWX says he knows, but he wants to try to master it anyway. Then he leaves with a rude little wave, and no bow.
Tumblr media
This whole conversation seems like a disaster but Wei Wuxian does, in fact, remember Lan Xichen’s words, the next time he meets up with Lan Wangji.

okay I have to do this today because even I wouldn’t do it after the godforsaken finale airs, and it’s basically my specialty and I did spend like an hour thinking about it last night while washing dishes. Definitely partly inspired by @words-writ-in-starlight‘s insightful post on everything Supernatural did wrong, and apologies in advance to all the characters for dragging them into anything related to Christian mythology:
Wei Wuxian’s parents die in a house fire when he’s 6(? I refuse to look anything up) months old
Jiangs are a hunter family I guess? That whole disaster of a family dynamic, except WWX dips out at some point to be idk an environmental activist bc at the time, that seems like the larger threat to the whole world. “Mom and Dad went on a hunting trip and they haven’t come back”, “bitch” “jerk”, 2 brothers in a beat-up old car, you know the drill
Jins are also an old hunting family, but more Men of Letters energy - they have a fancy bunker and do research and avoid getting their actual hands dirty. Jiang Yanli ducked out of the active hunting life a few years ago to be happily married to her peacock and settled down with a baby and she’s fine. We’re not going to bother Yanli. She’s safe and happy and doesn’t need to involved in any of this
so, WWX is the demon blood child developing exciting new abilities like telekinesis, mind control, exorcising demons by sheer force of will...etc, and Jiang Cheng is the Righteous Man. Lucifer, Michael, etc.
s1-3 probably proceeds more or less as spn canon...which I more or less remember...by the time they find their parents at the end of s1, Jiang Fengmian is...ugh, we probably shouldn’t kill him offscreen, I mean, we should probably meet him before he dies. I guess. Madam Yu lasts longer because I’m way more interested in her. But we do know that both Jiang parents are totally inclined to fling the boys into a metaphorical or literal escape boat and go hold the line for as long as possible, so...that’s spn energy...
Xue Yang is the one who’s like “fuck yeah, demon powers” and opens the gates of Hell, because I want him to have nice* things
*nice for Xue Yang
from characterization rather than memory, I’m 90% sure that Dean tried to hide his crossroads deal from Sam, but Jiang Cheng does it...better. I think it does come out, though. Right before the hellhounds do.
here’s where it starts to go farther off from spn canon. Jiang Cheng crawls his way out of the grave, gets stalked by a menacing presence that explodes windows for an episode, incidentally can’t find WWX...*Lan Wangji voice* “I’m the one who gripped you tight and raised you from Perdition” (a baller line then and a baller line now)...and then the next episode starts with them all awkwardly standing around, and JC is like, “ok well let’s go find my brother then”, and you think there’s going to be an mdzs-riffing JC+LWJ Roadtrip To Find WWX...and they’re immediately attacked by like a dozen demons
in fact, the first time we see WWX in s4 is here, wherein he goes toe to toe with an angel and...holds his own. that’s new and terrifying! also is leading a squad of demons??
because here’s the thing: for the last 3(?) months, there’s been war in hell
because unlike Some People Mooses, upon finding out that his brother’s soul was legally nearly-owned by a crossroads demon, heir-apparent-to-Satan!WWX went, “actually fuck that” and kicked open the door of Hell (metaphorically, not loosing any demons this time) and was like, “who do I have to beat the shit out of to get a specific crossroads contract around here”
this did not work, obv. He didn’t know until it was too late, Lilith had already snapped up the contract, etc. etc.
obviously he also tried to offer himself instead, and got rejected for some reason
Since Jiang Cheng died, however, there’s been a war for control of Hell. Leading one side, Lilith, the Original Babe, who wants to break all 666(?) seals keeping Lucifer bound and in the meantime, break the Righteous Man so Heaven won’t even have Michael’s destined host ready for the Final Battle. Leading the other side, Wei Wuxian, infamous upstart, who wants to rescue the Righteous Man and restore him to life, tear Lilith’s guts out through her nose, and also stop her from doing the Lucifer thing because Wen Qing explained that yes, that’s a Thing, and it’s Bad.
Wen Qing! I’ve decided to combine Bela and Ruby’s roles and let WQ be both the cool badass example of how demon deals can go Bad and the demon deliberately leading our heroes astray for most of s3-4. Wen Qing is a very new demon; she used to be some sort of herbalist/witch but then she sold her soul in a crossroads deal to cure her brother of some lingering illness. 10 years of happiness and then boom, hellhounds. WQ is so obviously competent, though, that they (Lilith, I guess?) immediately offers her a job, with the promise threat that gee, that’s a nice brother you’ve got there, even with his Designated Chronic Health Condition getting all relapse-y. It’d be such a shame if something were to...happen to him...
we find this out at some point in last s3 I guess? some Monster of the Week case involves WN as a witness or something, or possible next victim, and WQ shows up to be A Normal Amount Of Invested In This, while desperately trying to avoid actually interacting with her brother (who thinks she’s dead). YES, the truth comes out; YES there’s a tearful reunion
now in s4, Wen Ning is fine actually, health-wise, bc he maybe made a crossroads deal with Wei Wuxian personally, and Wen Qing may or may not have admitted that she’s supposed to be working for Lilith to get WWX ready to host Lucifer? Or potentially that comes out later, idk. Either way, she’s 100% his top lieutenant in this exciting Hell War they’re waging
[insert whatever the hell (ha) happened plot-wise in s4 of supernatural]
we obviously mix up the relationships, too, bc it’s like, *LWJ internal monologue* I’m too young to remember my brother Lucifer as he was before he Fell, but surely Wei Wuxian is his Heir and Destined Vessel in truth, for he is Charismatic and Charming and Makes Me Feel Things, with his Clearly Feigned Righteous Drive and Compassion for All God’s Creatures and - why does heat keep pooling in the lower abdomen of my vessel when I look at his lips, which I am definitely doing a Normal and Not-Weird Amount - I’m just keeping an eye out for the famed Silver Tongue, and not in any way wondering how it would feel in my own mouth -
it’s actually DEFINITELY plausible for Lucifer to still be released even if our designated Heir Apparent is using his demon powers to his full potential and no one’s lying to each other about their motives. You just need to let Lilith be more scary too, and especially bc by “no one” I mostly mean Wen Qing; the angels are still totally hiding the fact that they, too, want to jumpstart the shit out of this apocalypse.  LWJ decides at the last minute that that’s a bad idea actually, gets himself discorporated to send JC to intercept WWX because he accidentally releases Lucifer, etc. etc. Oh yeah, the boys were def fighting before this, bc JC has actually fairly reasonable concerns about the sort of things WWX is getting up to in his quest to become King of Hell...
SO
...I neither know nor care what happens in s5
it does end with both Lucifer and Michael locked in the cage probably, bc I rather liked that solution. Fuck both of ‘em, basically.
I was toying with the idea that WWX also found Madam Yu in whatever hellish torment she was suffering after making a deal so her idiot son(s) would survive, and she was leading forces for him in the war against Lilith as well. If she came back to life somehow, body and all, it’d probably be compelling if she offered her own body to Michael - bc it’s her lineage! - and we’re all led to believe that she’s, uh, being a bitch and actually wants to risk destroying the world in order to destroy all demons...but then she seizes back control and flings herself/Michael and Lucifer into the Pit, because she’s just That Hardcore?
which means we’d actually have had her around and having characterization for most of s4-5, too, which would be fun
More importantly, it ends with newly crowned King of Hell Wei Wuxian appointing Wen Qing as Queen-Regent and ditching to go on an indefinite honeymoon with his new angel boyfriend (they’re going to fuck for like three weeks straight, then roll up their sleeves and go conquer Heaven in the name of free will), and Jiang Cheng gets to live out his hitherto-unknown-to-himself life’s ambition to be the sugar baby of the Queen of Hell. It’s very Hades/Persephone, except he goes back down to the underworld at least once a month. He gets his own demon squad whom he trains up in all the hunting techniques and it’s gr9. Wen Qing is reforming the crossroads deal process to make it more fair to the humans.
the end
Addenda:
it should go without saying but Jiang Yanli is definitely a recurring character, like, at least once a season there’s a filler episode where they go to Jiang Yanli’s for dinner and have to get along as a family, and also do the much easier job of defeating some sort of terrible demon that gets loose in the bunker and turns the evening into a horror movie. She’s their main research/emotional check-in person, a la Bobby, more often appearing in later seasons when there’s, uhhh, more to emotionally check in about.
Jin Zixuan is actually a perfectly competent hunter; he’s just a priss and we don’t Like him
we like Mianmian, though. Oh, I guess the official Hunter’s Guild or w/e tries to declare WWX a public enemy on account of the whole “King of Hell” thing and she’s like “actually what if you’re morons and assholes?” and joins hte team in s4 or 5? Yeah.
idk how the 3zun disaster happens in this ‘verse but I do encourage it to be happening in slow motion as a recurring subplot for several seasons. NMJ is a hunter, LXC is obv an angel, and JGY is...I wanna say one of the more human monsters, like a vampire? Or, you know, something that could be born from JGS sleeping with someone/something he shouldn’t have

Reformation Part 3
Read the Previous Chapter [Here]
Word Length: 3,931
Summary: Something needs to be done about this tragedy, but at what cost?
TW: Sexual Assault in this chapter.
“Calling me.....“
“Wei-Xiong, “Nie Huaisang muttered while walking alongside his brother, a saddened look upon his face as he stared at his friend
“I have him, “Nie MingJue replied, one arm encircled around Wei WuXian’s waist to keep him upright, while the other gripped his wrists so he couldn’t fight against his hold
The people of the search party were, for the most part, as quiet as mouses. Walking alongside one another, they could only spare glances at the bewitched cultivator as he continued to chant on and on.
“He’s….calling me…, ”Wei WuXian chanted, jerking against the tight grip on his person
The gates to the Cloud Recesses shimmered and dimmed as the search party was let in by the night-watch. Lesser disciples broke off, deciding to retire to their rooms for the night while the rest continued on towards the Jingshi.
“You’ve returned, “Wen Ruohan, Lan Qiren, and the Jiang parents were waiting for them at the entrance of the residence
“Calling....calling!, “twisting in his hold, Wei WuXian began to violently thrash against Nie Sect Leader
“Wei-Xiong!, “Huaisang gasped, flinching and taking a couple of steps back
“Damn it, “Nie MingJue grunted as he was thrown into a tussle with the bewitched man
Freeing his wrists, Wei WuXian pushed against Nie MingJue’s face, attempting to scratch at his eyes with his nails. Gritting his teeth, MingJue attempted to grapple him again as the enchanted man hissed and twisted against him. Minor sect members of the search party rapidly retrieved talismans from their sleeves but did not pitch them at the snarling duo. Afraid to hurt the leader of a Great Sect, they were stuck in place.
“Enough!, “Mingjue hollered, tackling the man to the group and forcing his arms above his head
“a-Xian!, “Jiang Yanli called wringing her hands at the sight
Untying his sash, Sect Leader Nie’s outer robe fell open as he tied Wei WuXian’s hands behind his back, the man’s screams not hindering him in the slightest. Hoisting him up, he held his fast against his chest. Growling in agitation, Wei WuXian shook his head back and forth, trying to pull himself free once again.
“a-Jie, don’t, “Jiang WanYin tried to reach for his sister but she slipped through his grasp
“a-Xian!, “Yanli ran towards the quarreling men, taking Wei WuXian’s face in her hands, “a-Xian, please stop!”
“Nng, “shaking his head and snarling at her, teeth nearly bit through Yanli’s smooth skin
“a-Jie!, “Sandu’s hilt held tightly in his grip, Jiang Wanyin stomped towards his sister while his mother in the background screamed, “a-Li, get away from him!”
“Away, “taking her arm, Lan WangJi gently pushed her away towards her brother who held her back from approaching once more
“Oh, a-Xian, “wiping tears from her eyes, she watched as WuXian continued to struggle
“Chifeng-zun, follow me, “Lan WangJi uttered while walking towards his residence
“Mm, “MingJue nodded, gripping Wei WuXian’s arms tightly while pushing the struggling man forward
“Aahh!!, “the enchanted man screamed while being forced through the doors of the Jingshi
As the voice slowly faded away, the sects couldn’t help but stare at the open doors of the residence as they made their way back to the Lan Sect’s discussion hall.
“We can’t let this happen again, “Lan XiChen started once everyone settled in and quieted down
“Does he wander off often?, “Sect Leader Yao asked
“For the past couple of weeks he’d rise every night and try and escape the Jingshi, “XiChen explained, “WangJi was normally there to make sure he didn’t leave and often has to restrain him.”
“And he says the same thing? Every night?, “Sect Leader Rong inquired
“That’s right, “Lan Qiren replied while smoothing out his sleeve, “We theorized that whatever attacked him must have a nest hidden away somewhere.”
“But why not devour him already?, “Jin GuangShan pondered, “It can’t have just attacked him for food; it must want something else.”
“It may want his Yang energy, “Lan Yu suggested, “His core is powerful; it may want to siphon his energy from him.”
Many found themselves nodding in agreement with this reasoning. There were many types of dangerous creatures that loved to suck the yang energy from cultivators, perhaps this was one that they haven’t encountered yet?
“But what a terrifying creature, “Jiang Fengmian said, “It’s left no trace whatsoever and seems hell-bent on having him.“
“Why don’t we just follow him to the thing, “Jin ZiXun grumbled, “It’ll be easy if we just let him lead us to it.”
“ZiXun, “Jin GuangShan sighed and shook his head, “It’s not that simple.”
“Isn’t it, uncle, “the man grunted, “Whatever it is wants him, so we just do what it wants until we find it and exterminate it.”
“Night-hunts take at least a day of planning, “GuangShan replied, “Being hasty only makes way for mistakes and unnecessary expenditures, “Besides, what you’re suggesting...”
“You want to use Wei Ying as bait, “eyes turned as Lan WangJi and Nie MingJue walked into the room, the Second Jade’s eyes pierced through Jin ZiXun as he walked to sit beside his uncle
“How is WuXian?, “XiChen asked
“Had to restrain him, left a guard, “WangJi replied with a displeased air around him
“He’ll break through those ropes eventually, “Nie MingJue added walking to sit down beside his brother once more
Many minor sect leaders started to express ideas about what sort of creature they could be facing. “It could be a bat king”, exclaimed a Yao senior disciple. “No, no, a seduction demon, “claimed another. The possibilities of what truly sent Wei WuXian under were endless.
“I’m just saying that we could have this whole situation over and done with, “Jin ZiXun stood and crossed his arms, “We use Wei WuXian’s compass to lure us straight to it while using him a sure guide, easy.”
“Except that puts him in direct contact with the creature, “Lan XiChen disagreed, “Wei WuXian should stay here until we find out more.”
“Are the Lan unwilling to take risks? Didn’t the Second Young Master say that the Lan would make every effort to cure Wei WuXian?, “Jiang WanYin jeered, “How can that be if you’re not even willing to do something as simple as this?”
“We won’t endanger him, unnecessarily, “XiChen said in a curt tone
“We can’t be certain if he won’t try and fight us again, either, “Jiang Fengmian added his input
“We should at least try, father“Jiang WanYin insisted, “Besides, isn’t this our responsibility?”
“What are you saying, a-Cheng, “the Jiang Sect Leader looked to his son
“I’m saying that the Lan Sect has no business interfering with disciples of our sect. This has gone on for too long; we should end this and get back to our own; we have enough problems as it is, “the Jiang heir said in a clipped tone
Standing up from the table, Jiang WanYin looked at everyone in the room with a sharp demeanor and a challenging glint in his eyes.
“The Jiang Sect are going through with Young Master Jin’s plan, “WanYin said with an air of finality, “Since the Lan are too cowardly, we’ll be assuming control of this situation.”
“Jiang WanYin, “Lan WangJi stood tall, “You’ve no right.”
“Second Young Master Lan is all talk and no action, “WanYin ridiculed him,
“Have you truly put any effort into mending this headache?”
“You cannot be trusted with his safety, “WangJi protested with a fiery look in his gaze
“Neither can you! It’s your fault he’s even in a coma!, “WanYin nearly shouted, “This would’ve never happened had he stayed in Yunmeng!”
The two got closer as they disputed; the sect heirs were almost nose to nose, Jiang WanYin a crackling lightning storm while Lan WangJi a quiet blizzard. Many of the people were astounded that the Jiang Sect heir was willing to rile up the Second Jade of Lan and even more were surprised that the Lan heir was even riled.
“Plan a safer hunt, “WangJi glared
“Show some gallantry, “WanYin countered
Jiang WanYin rubbed at his hand, a contemptuous glare adorning his face as he stared down Lan WangJi; fortunately, he was without Zidian. With how the situation was slowly escalating; many people feared the Jiang heir would raise his blade against the Lan.
“Shouldn’t we all be in agreement, then?, “the tension in the room suddenly shattered to pieces as Wen Ruohan’s luke-warm voice filtered through everyone’s ears
Turning to the Wen Sect Leader, the man sat with his legs cross and hands clasped in front of him. His eyes were lidded, a small smile splayed on his face as if watching a performance instead of two sect heirs disputing.
“It’s no question that a hunt is in order. The Lan want to prove that they are capable of taking care of Wei WuXian. And the Jiang need to prove that they are no longer a threat to him, so both sects will be a part of the hunt, “Ruohan mused, eyes shifting as the air seemed to thin and choke everyone else in the room, “Everyone else here is simply support.”
The Lans stared as the Wen Sect leader unclasped his hands and started to tap on the side of his seat, posture set as if he was waiting on a simple missive from a teaching disciple instead of forcing the other sects to make a decision. Nie MingJue glared at the man, slowly seething within at his arrogance. The Jiangs all found themselves glaring, but no words or actions were taken. The minor sects were all sufficiently cowed, everyone silent and afraid to speak.
Wen Ruohan smirked.
“I’ll say again....are we all in agreement?”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next morning, Lan and Jiang disciples were shuffling back and forth to hurriedly prepare the night-hunt that night. Back again in the discussion hall, leaders of the sects and Lan Qiren collaborated on who they would be sending in such a short manner of time.
In the Jingshi, Lan XiChen helped his little brother change Wei WuXian into a fresher set of robes.
“You know you could just ask a servant to attend to him, “XiChen raised a brow as he helped removed WuXian’s arms from the old robe’s sleeves
“No need, “WangJi succinctly replied
A fond smile coming over his face, XiChen reached for the nearby basin and ringed out a tower, wiping down Wei WuXian’s face, arms and torso before throwing the dusty rag back into the bowl.
“I’m going to tell him how loving you were when he wakes, “XiChen huffed as he slipped arms through clean silk
Lan WangJi did not reply, seemingly ignoring his brother, but XiChen was immediately delighted to see the tips of his didi’s ears darkening ever so slightly.
“a-Cheng!, “a frightful shout interrupted the brother’s peace
Standing quickly, they moved towards the window of the Jingshi and peered out to see who dared break their rules in broad daylight.
Yu ZiYuan with her arms crossed and a dark look upon her face as she glared up at her son. Her maids, ever-present at her side, sent sharp looks to any disciple frowning at their madam’s direct disregard of their rules.
“What are you doing, playing around! Do you normally idle this much before a night-hunt?! What a lazy son of mine, “Yu ZiYuan scolded her son in the middle of the path
Jiang WanYin scowled as his mother continued to berate him. Letting out a barely noticeable sigh, he nodded along to what she was saying.
“Don’t embarrass YunmengJiang tonight! Heavens already knows the madness we have to endure because of that boy; don’t make it any worse!, “ZiYuan barked while twisting the ring around her finger
The ring crackled slightly while slipping off its master’s slender finger. Landing in Jiang WanYin’s hand, he quickly slipped the ring on; the spiritual tool adjusting to his size and sparkling as it registered its current user.
“Xiongzhang, “Lan WangJi said with a tight-lipped expression, watching as mother and son continued to converse
“I don’t want Jiang WanYin going as much as you do, “XiChen replied, “but if we try to make the Jiangs stay behind, Wen Zongzhu....”
Eyes narrowing and fists clenching at the mention of the Wen Sect Leader, Lan WangJi vowed, “I won’t let him take Wei Ying.”
“Mother, a-Cheng, “the Twin Jades watched as Jiang Yanli slowly walked up the path to her relatives, “Father wants to see you both in the discussion hall.”
Both mother and son were tight-faced as they followed the Jiang heiress back down the path. The Lan brothers looked to one another.
“MingJue-Xiong is coming as support tonight, “XiChen folded an arm behind his back, “We’ll do our best to keep WuXian safe, from this creature....and everyone else.”
...
The night came faster than they would have wanted. The full moon shined down on them, brightening up the quiet paths of the Cloud Recesses as disciples gathered in front of the Jingshi.
“Calling me.....”
Standing on the porch of the Jingshi, the Twin jades of Lan held Wei WuXian tightly by the arms. The enthralled man weakly struggled against their hold, trying to wander off once more.
“I’m still uncomfortable with this, “Lan XiChen said to his uncle
“I am as well, “Lan Qiren brows furrowed deeply as he watched the night-hunting party check their supplies
“He’s....calling me......, “Wei WuXian gave a weak tug at his arms
“Wei Ying, “Lan WangJi said, gently grasping the man’s chin to make him face him
Once again, Lan WangJi stared into glossy pink eyes, the man’s cognition completely gone. What was normally a smiling face held practically no emotion as he continued his endless chant.
“Calling me.....”
Letting out a deep sigh, Lan WangJi pressed his forehead against the other man’s.  Take a few calming breaths, he nodded towards his brother who watched on with a solemn smile.
Simultaneously, the Twin Jades let go of the man’s arms; Wei WuXian instantly stepping forward and walking off the porch. Body slouched forward and hair covering his face, he was no different from the walking dead.
“He’s....calling me.....”
“Be careful, “Lan Qiren gave a sharp nod to his nephews
“Thank you, shufu, “XiChen smiled while WangJi nodded
As his nephews and the parties shuffled past, Lan Qiren said in a quiet tone, “I will see what I can do about Jiang Zongzhu and Wen Zongzhu.”
The night watch was waiting for them at the gate, giving the bewitched man a slight head start, they opened the barrier just enough for him to slip through while the hunting party trailed behind.
“Let’s head out!, “Jiang WanYin ordered everyone
Everyone was quiet as they followed Wei WuXian through the mountains. Crossing over creeks and fallen trees, they sometimes had to zoom forward to help the man overcome the obstacles. All the while, he continued as if those things weren’t there, ever determined to reach his destination.
“Calling me.....”
Tensions rose as they once again met at the waterfall. This time, however, they were better prepared and tensely helped the man cross the log bridge despite the tight feeling in their chests ever-worsening with each step across the dangerous basin.
“He’s....calling me.....”
Mountain range after range was crossed, the night sky dimming from midnight blue to the darkest of black. The chirps of nightly creatures continued on, trilling away as the hunting party followed their lure.
“Calling...calling.....”
The many trees soon thinned away in a clearing. Wei WuXian stopped dead in his tracks.
The hunting party was immediately set on edge.
“Ehh, what is he-”
"SCREEEEEAAAAAH!”
The cultivators flinched at the sound, taking out banishment talismans for quick defense. Quickly shielding themselves within the trees, they could only prepare for the coming encounter.
Lan WangJi’s hand immediately went to his sword’s hilt, “The sound that made up separate, “he warned his brother
XiChen nodded in understanding, “Everyone, be careful.”
"SCREEEEEAAAAAH!”
Sleeping birds woke abruptly, fleeing from their trees in fear, the cries of critters and prey animals scurrying away from the approaching creature added to the rising tension of the hunting party.
The wind seemed to shift as if noticing the creature’s arrival; the air grew colder. The sound of wings slicing through the sky reverberated through their ears.
Suddenly, a large being landed roughly on the other side of the clearing upon large stones. It was huddled, but then, its large wings flew out! Its silhouette was in the shape of a gangly man.
With a beastly growl, it stepped forward into the moonlight.
"Huh, “Jin ZiXun gasped in shock and horror
It was a horrible sight to see, a bony, stark white creature covered with leather -like skin. The wings of a bat protruded out of its back, clawed hands and feet digging into the rough bark of the trees. Blood red eyes blazed from behind black sockets; its mouth bared a pair of needle-like fangs.
Wei WuXian smiled at the creature, a pleasant sigh leaving his mouth.
“It’s you, “Wei WuXian murmured trailing forward with an enamored look on his face
Arms and wings spreading wide, the creature grumbled at its prey. Its scarlet eyes narrowed in on the bewitched cultivator as he approached. A few feet away from it, Wei WuXian jumped into its arms, wrapping his arms around the beast.
The Twin Jades hissed at the sight, filled with worry.
“Stay where you are, “Nie MingJue warned as Jiang WanYin and Jin ZiXun raised their blades, “It may kill him if we move too quickly.”
“It’s you, “Wei WuXian said once more, raising his hand towards the creature’s head, his fingers curled in the air beside its bare skull, as if twisting locks of hair
The creature captured Wei WuXian within its arms, followed by its wings attempt to hide the man from view.
"Master, “only due to their enhanced senses were the cultivator’s able to hear Wei WuXian’s amorous words, “I’m here.”
Removing one hand from his person, a clawed hand grasped Wei WuXian’s chin, forcing him to look up, eyes lidded, a dream-like expression and pleasant smile upon his face. The creature gave a low rumble and lowered its head, closing the space between them.
Lan XiChen forced himself to look away, while Jiang WanYin growled in disgust.
‘Wei Ying, ‘Lan WangJi thought, gripping Bichen with enough force to crumble even the densest of stone
Wei WuXian gave a gasp as the creature separated from him, an enamored smile splayed across his lips as he once again wrapped his arms around it.
“Master, “the bewitched man repeated, “I’m here.”
The creature moved Wei WuXian’s head to the side, exposing his neck. A sharp tongue unfurled from the monster’s mouth, trailing up the bewitched man’s neck; and he sighed in content.
The beast growled; the hunting party lifted their blades in preparation.
Suddenly, the monster’s fangs seemed to elongate before thrusting down upon Wei WuXian’s neck!
“Go, go!, “XiChen ordered in a near shout, eyes wide
Dashing from their hiding space, the creature’s eyes widened as glares from as many as twenty swords came its way. Ripping its teeth from Wei WuXian’s neck, blood splashed along the ground.
"SCREEEEEAAAAAH!, “it thundered out towards them, throwing Wei WuXian behind it in one fell swoop
Charging ahead, the creature met Nie MingJue’s saber head-on. Sharp nails grated against the blade’s dark metal. Gritting his teeth, the Nie Sect Leader tried to push forward against it, but the beast held strong.
“Surround it!, “unfurling Zidian, Jiang WanYin barked towards his fellow Jiang disciples
Spreading out, some Jiang disciples took out arrows while the rest got into formation with their swords. Brandishing his whip and Sandu, Jiang WanYin looked for a break in the beast’s defense.
A clawed hand forced Nie MingJue back. Getting in line with Lan XiChen they both charged at the gangly beast as one, purple and light green sword glares lashed out.
The beast wrapped itself in its wings as the glares collided, dust rising up from the grounds as glare after glare pummeled into it.
“Fire!, “Jiang WanYin ordered to the archers
Aiming into the dust cloud, the archers struck true, arrow after arrow flying into the beast. A loud angry roar sounded from the cloud as they wouldn’t let up with the assault.
Rushing past them all, WangJi stormed up to the unconscious Wei WuXian. Ripping the arm off his sleeve, WangJi hurriedly pressed the fabric against WuXian’s bleeding neck.
“Enough!, “Jin ZiXun called an end to the assault with the raise of his hand
The archers halted and XiChen and MingJue lowered their swords ever so slightly. The dust cloud was thick with the smell of blood.
"SCREEEEEAAAAAH!, “Suddenly, the strong flag of its wings, the cloud dissipated and the creature revealed itself once more
“What?, “Jiang WanYin gasped at the creature
The beast was full of arrows and covered in slashes, its leather-like skin punctured all over. Its bare head was covered in gashes from sword glares.
*Thump* *Thump* The beast growled at them a dark a guttural noise. The arrows were falling off of its body as if being pushed out; the beast’s wounds were healing!
“What the hell is that thing!, “a Jin disciple shouted
“Charge!, “Nie MingJue hollered
All raising their swords, they could only face the beast head-on with their blades. It screamed again, claws reaching out to tear them in two.
“Rah!, “Jiang WanYin tried to lash at it with his whip, but it deflected it as easily as it did their swords
“WangJi, go!, “XiChen ordered with a quick glance back, parrying against the beast
Taking the limp man into his arms, Bichen quickly hovered for its master to mount it. Long grasses danced and leaves were ripped from their branches as the Lan Sect heir shot out the clearing.
"SCREEEEEAAAAAH!, “The creature shrieked at the sight of its prey being taken away and attempted to charge after them. Before it could, a pair of light green sword glares stopped it right in its path.
Lan XiChen and Nie MingJue glared the creature down, blades raised high as they prepared for another clash. Circling around the beast, Jiang and Jin Cultivators glared it down, harsh breaths coming out from the long fight before them.
Bearing its teeth at them, the monster’s eyes seemed to grow even redder in its anger as it glared them down. Shuddering, it opened its mouth and roared.
"SCREEEEEAAAAAH!“
With a burst of wind, the creature shot up into the sky, the moonlight shining on its pale body.
“After it!, “Jin ZiXun shouted, about to mount his blade
“No, forget it!, “Nie MingJue hollered, “Get back to the Cloud Recesses, seal everything off in case it tries to come back for Wei WuXian!”
...
“Nnng, “Wei WuXian groaned as golden spiritual energy pulsed throughout his body
“Almost over, “passing over his own spiritual power, Lan WangJi sat in the middle of the array with Wei WuXian huddled in his lap
“Calling....calling, “Wei WuXian started to mumble while flinching at the energy seeping into him
Frowning at the cursed words, WangJi nodded to the other disciples in the room. The sound of Cleansing permeated and echoed against the walls, Lan Qing's long fingers danced along the silver strings of their guqin. The healing array shined brightly in the room, the golden energy a stark contrast to the looming shadows of the night.
On Wei WuXian’s neck, the bite marks slowly closed, a small trickle of blood still seeping out of the holes.
“Hah, “a loud gasp resounded throughout the entire room, sweat dripping from Wei WuXian’s creased brows
“Calling me.....”
Brushing his hair out of his face, WangJi held WuXian’s face as gently as he could. Harsh breathes blew against his hand, and Wei WuXian hissed again.
“Master....”
Ever so slowly, the bite marks were replaced with freshly healed skin; Wei WuXian groaned in agony. Calling out for the monster, he weakly shifted in Lan WangJi’s hold.
With a final flourish of the hand, Lan Qing slowly took their hand away from their guqin and the room soon quieted, the resonating sound of Cleansing abated.
"He’s....calling me.....”
Wiping the sweat from WuXian’s brow, WangJi tried to move him into a move comfortable position as the man weakly pushed against him.
“I’m sorry, “he said to the unconscious man
Holding him tight, he pressed his face deep into the crook of his neck. The sound of WuXian’s chants rumbled from his throat and thumped against his face.
With the wounds closed, the medics stopped distributing their energy into the array. As the light dimmed, the room grew darker and darker until they were all encased in shadows.
“I’m sorry.”

A show that could have been better developed.
Honestly, I started watching this drama because of Wang Hao Xuan, I think that many know him for the role of Xue Yang in The Untamed. As I really liked his acting and his character in the drama, I became a fan and wanted to follow the dramas in which he participated.
Then my saga begins to watch Dance Of Phoenix. At the time I was already in doubt if I would even watch this drama, basically because the story seemed like the typical story of Chinese drama, there was nothing really attractive to me, but I decided to continue on to Hao Xuan.
History: There was nothing very new for me, if you have seen some Chinese dramas, you must have seen some similar story or the same kind of development. Although it is based on the novel Godly Empress Doctor, I don't think they adapted the novel well. They could have developed the story further and added more episodes. It all happened so fast, the romance, the events ... So, for me the story was kind of uninteresting. I liked DarkNight Court, they were more interesting than the Celestial Palace and if I had explored their story further, the drama would have been better. I prefer the dark side of strength.
CGI: They weren't bad. The eagle (episode 1) and the rays (episode 26) were good effects, and the monster (episode 10), the wolf (episode 25) and the rays were good makeups. He liked the effect of the Court's powers as well.
OST: There is nothing special about OST, only two songs won my attention, which were the closing song (Tai Chu) and another song that appears in episode 26 (Lin Zhou) theme by Yu Mingye.
Performance: I will start with the protagonists, I liked the performance of the female protagonist, she had funny and cute expressions and knew how to be serious at the right moments, the protagonist I felt a little rigid and emotionless in some important moments of the plot, although I believe that your character has that kind of personality.
The other actors did well and captivated me. I really liked: Wang Hao Xuan (Yu MingYe) - his performance is totally different from his performance in The Untamed, as the expressive, sexy and charismatic villain Xue Yang. Here he was more serious, but we can see his emotions. I am very proud of how much he has improved <3
Guo Cheng (Feng Xun) - Made me laugh with his cute and funny acting like Feng Xun. I loved your expressions.
Estella Chen (Zhao Ge) Gao Ji Cai (Xuan Yi) - They were good too, she playing the cute Zhao Ge and he the serious and cute Xuan Yi.
Jinna (Zuo Qinluan) Played her villain very well, she had good expressions and made us angry with her character.
Characters:
Tumblr media
Feng Wu: I like her very much, because she is an interesting, beautiful, intelligent, fun, independent and strong character (I love when she wears red) Wu is a kind of female character difficult to see in a Chinese drama, as it seems it became "fashionable" for female protagonists to be weak, fragile, with a child's voice, unable to make any decision and stupid as a door. I really avoid watching dramas that have characters like that, for me, as a woman, it's offensive.
Tumblr media
So having a character like her is a very good thing. I like the fact that she is decisive and does not let anyone put her down and that she is not a lady in danger who needs to be saved every 5 minutes. Her fight scene against the goddess Zuo was incredible, she looked very powerful and reminded me of the unbeatable Feng Wu of the novel. Wu has her own goals, her focus has always been to recover her cultivation and save her master and that makes me admire her as a woman.
Tumblr media
I missed seeing more scenes of her fighting or training, since she had incredible powers but which unfortunately were not so well explored in the drama, and only appeared in a moment of danger and then "PUFF" disappeared. But in general, she is a strong, adorable character, with a good heart and an incredible woman.
Tumblr media
Jun LiYuan: What about him? Basically he is the typical character who dresses in white in Chinese dramas, who has the personality of an ice pack and who is all-powerful and who flatter everyone. I'm not a big fan of characters like that and from what I heard, in the novel he is unbearable and has no excuse for the pills he took in childhood, in the novel this pill never existed, he is cold, rude and arrogant by nature.
Tumblr media
They made him a little better in the drama, but he's not my type of character. And he had no chemistry with Feng Wu, his interactions were monotonous and I was always bored or messed with his cell phone when they interacted, because it was all a little forced, in fact they seemed more friends than lovers. We can't feel their love.
Tumblr media
Yu Mingye: He and Feng Wu are the best characters without a doubt, in my opinion they are the most developed. MingYe had more depth than Liyuan. He grew up in a toxic environment, with an abusive father (he was punished when he failed on a mission) and yet he was someone with a good heart and kindness. He could be immature, powerful and arrogant and at the same time naive, adorable, selfless, gentle, loving and loyal.
Tumblr media
I wish they had given him more screen time, but even with the little screen time, he stole the show. All the comments I read on Youtube talked about him and how he was the best Liyuan and that Feng Wu should stay with MingYe ( everyone fell in love with him)
He had a lot of chemistry with her and would be a more interesting couple than Feng Wu and Jun Liyuan (I wish Yu MingYe and Feng Wu had been together in the end). MingYe showed that he really loved Wu because he always helped and supported her in his follies, he was always the first to take action and save her, he gave up on her because he knew she loved the other, and yet he said that they could be friends ( even suffering from it) he indirectly helped save Wu and the others, when they would be trapped on the mountain because of the barrier that Mozun placed. While fighting LiYuan, he guided him so that his blows would hit the main points of the barrier. And for the love of Wu, he went against his father and cut him off to save her, and he knew what was going to happen to him and yet he went and did it. And we know what happened to him, don't we ??? I haven't recovered from that yet.
In the end, he lost everything through unrequited love. He lost his arm, his court and in the end even his father. All this so that the protagonists lived well. And in the end he continued to help everyone, he released LiYuan and helped Feng Wu to win (even though it would make his court lose). If that's not being a good character, then I don't know what it is. In the end, he was the most wronged character in the drama and deserved much more. If there is a second season, give it a decent ending. Hao Xuan did a good job playing YMY, he loved his fight scenes, the style of his clothes and his acting. He has a strong presence, incredible beauty and looks stunning with period clothes and long hair
Feng Xun, Zhao Ge, Xuan Yi and Qing Qinluan: Feng Xun was the typical character who talked too much and outgoing, I really had fun with what he did, too bad they didn't give him much time and much importance. Zhao Ge was adorable and his romance with the serious and cute Xuan Yi was very cute, they had great chemistry and were the best couple.
Zuo Qinluan could have been better used, I found his death very early. She was an interesting character, she was powerful and she had her own motivations that involved power. She was very envious of Wu and wanted to take her place at all costs.
End: Although I don't care about a sad ending, I do care about the incomplete ending. It was kind of disappointing, although I don't care that they don't end up together. I didn't find the couple engaging or with chemistry so I wasn't sad. I felt that the last chapter could have been better elaborated, I thought that everything happened very quickly.

My Girlfriend is an Alien Review
Tumblr media
I don’t normally review modern romance dramas because first of all, I’m more or a xianxia/wuxia/historical drama kind of person so I don’t watch too many modern dramas in the first place, and second, when I do watch modern dramas, I choose the simple, fluffy kind, so there’s not much to critically review anyway. I mainly watch them between dramas to cleanse my palate.
But I finished MGFIAA yesterday and I have thoughts, mostly good ones.
1. First Impressions
I was really skeptical about this drama at first. It’s a rich guy CEO/poor girl drama, and I normally hate that trope. The last CEO dramas I watched were Boss and Me and My Sunshine 6 years ago, but that was because I wanted to watch Zhao Liying and Tang Yan respectively.
But, after reading comments on reddit about how people thought MGFIAA was Wan Peng’s best comedic work so far, I decided to take a leap of faith and gave this drama a shot. I went into the drama mostly blind and had no expectations. I had just finished You Are My Hero and My Little Happiness, both dramas in which the FL and ML have different careers (which is a dynamic I really like), so I wanted to watch something completely different that would prevent me from comparing it to these last 2 dramas.
The drama starts of kinda meh. The FL uses her alien powers to save the ML from a car crash. The ML is a stereotypical alpha male CEO. Nothing too surprising or enticing yet. But the scene that sealed the deal for me was when the FL starts stealing and trying on clothes while window shopping at the mall. Wan Peng was just gorgeous and glowing in that scene. And then the next scene that confirmed it for me was when the FL freezes time, but the ML is unaffected by it and he sees her for the first time but is unsure if he’s hallucinating or not. After that scene, I decided to stick with the drama to see what all the hype was about.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Simple, sweet, no-non-sense plot
There’s only one plot line in the drama, which is the romance between the main leads. There are no supporting couples or subplots. All supporting characters are either helping the leads get together, or are plotting against the leads, so everything directly relates back to them. I really like this because it makes the story more focused on just one storyline and one couple.
This is different from most dramas where it’s common to have a subplot with a supporting couple. My Little Happiness had a supporting couple whose plot line was completely separate from the main leads, while You Are My Hero had two supporting couples, which dragged out the drama.
I suppose this is because Wan Peng and Hsu Thassapak were not that popular at the time, so the plot could be more focused on them to promote them. On the other hand, when you have a drama where the leads are already popular, the production team will try to leverage that popularity to bring attention to lesser-known up-and-coming actors in the supporting roles. I remember how Yang Zi and Deng Lun had less and less screen time towards the end of Ashes of Love, and Tang Yan and Luo Jin also didn’t have much screen time in The Way We Were, and Yang Mi used Eternal Love to help promote the actors under her agency, like Dilireba (although Yang Mi managed to keep the drama mostly focused on her storyline).
3. Comedy
Despite being a sitcom comedy, this drama didn’t make me laugh out loud like some scenes in my Little Happiness and You Are My Hero did, but there were a lot of scenes where I couldn’t help but grin like an idiot because of some of the adorably awkward antics the FL and ML did. They also mock the CEO romance genre in some scenes by exaggerating the trope, which was amusing (but still cringey) to watch, but I guess that was the point.
However, I will admit that there were some outright cringey scenes that were hard to watch. A recurring plot point was the the FL’s fascination with the male body and pheromones. So sometimes, she can’t help herself and reaches out to touch the ML’s abs. This plot point works because she’s an alien who’s curious and doesn’t know better, but the second hand embarrassment you still feel is strong nevertheless. I think physical clinginess just makes me really uncomfortable in general.
The kiss scenes were very PG, probably because Hsu Thassapak is married with kids, but there are a lot of innuendos in the dialogue and physical comedy.
4. Acting
Wan Peng is effortlessly adorable and bubbly, and the voice acting really helps sell that as well. (The voice actress, Qiao Shi Yu, who dubs her is the same one who usually dubs Zhao Liying and who also dubbed Yuan bingyan in Love and Redemption. I think the voice actress is often used for cutesy characters. Wan Peng has a much lower voice, which I already guessed when I saw pictures of her. She gives off a vibes of someone who would have a low voice).
Hsu Thassapak has a chiseled face that looks too sculpted, and so I was skeptical about whether he would be able to emote, but he actually carried the emotional scenes quite well. Again, the voice acting also really helped. Hsu Thassapak has a higher voice than his voice actor, who I think also dubbed Luo Jin in Princess Weiyoung.
Wang You Jun was great at playing the ML’s younger brother and love rival. I was surprised to learn that he’s actually younger than Wan Peng because his acting felt mature (even though he’s character isn’t).
5. Story Originality
I can’t make an assessment of how original the story is because they do rely on a lot of predictable tropes, but I can say that it was well-executed. It’s not easy to insert fantasy elements into a modern drama and make it believable, but I was on board with the ridiculous premise. Not only is the FL an alien, but the ML has a type of amnesia where he forgets all the women he meets whenever it rains. And yet, I was hooked and invested against my better judgement.
6. Overall Impression
8/10. The drama is exactly what is says it is, so I can’t really complain. The plot progresses logically, even if there are some frustrating moments, but you can understand why the characters made the choices they made. It will take you some time at first to get used to the outlandish premise, but after the first 2 episodes, you’ll be rooting for the FL.
The FL’s character is also reminiscent of xianxia dramas where the FL has no idea what romantic love is (e.g., Love and Redemption, Love and Destiny), and slowly learns how to love. I’m apparently a sucker for that trope, so it was actually quite easy for me to fall for this drama, despite being initially skeptical about it.

Comparing RWBY and YGO DM: The Handling and Evolution of Themes
Hey! Its been a hot minute since I last posted anything RWBY-related but Im laying in my bed right now and Im sick and bored so I guess we're doing this. Today I will do my best to analyze what I percieve to be the main themes and messages of both of these shows, or more specifically, how theyre handled narratively. Im mostly focusing on that part because, while these series do have similar themes and messaging, they are still a few things in which they are wildly different. And with that, lets start with this essay-post-thing!
1. Theres something we need to adress first
Okay so, before we can really talk about this, theres something I feel the need to clarify here: Neither of these stories was "planned from the beginning".
Now, I dont think a story being planned from the beginning or not nesscessarily makes the story any better or worse by default, however, it is still important to acknowledge because the way the story is planned is going to affect every facet of it. Things are not going to be foreshadowed properly, things are gonna be set up only for nothing to come of it, the story might drastically change directions, characters might act differently, etc, etc.
And, this is bit off-topic but, it's much better to just admit that the story was not planned than trying to pretend that it was. Like, there are a lot of reasons why I tend to be so forgiving towards YGO even though its not very good, but one of them is definitely the fact that, as far as Im aware atleast, the guy who wrote it isnt pretending to have had this big master plan all along and neither is the fandom. With RWBY on the other hand... yeaaaah, its kinda the opposite. From what Ive seen of RWBYs fandom, there seems to be this pretty popular narrative that everything was planned even though it clearly wasnt. Thats pretty bad and honestly lowers my opinion of the writers so much more than if they would just admit to not having a proper plan.
Like, I initially consumed YGO like this: Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters, Yu-Gi-Oh (aka Season 0), like, a quarter of the Yu-Gi-Oh manga (I still havent finished it)
In all three of these we have the character of Yami Yuugi, or just Yami. Broadly speaking, he is an ancient egyptian gamer spirit who lives in a magical puzzle that has not been solved for 3000 years until this highschooler named Yuugi Mutou comes along and solves it, thus setting him free and allowing him to possess Yuugi and have access to the vague magical powers of the puzzle.
In Duel Monsters he's perfectly fine most of time, morally speaking. There is an instance of him almost murdering a guy and its a bit unclear what exactly happens to those he mindcrushes but overall he's very much a pretty good guy. In Season 0 most of what he does is set up these games for bad people, where they will go insane no matter what they do. From how I understand this whole Shadow Game, Penalty Game stuff, if you lose a Shadow Game, you get violent and intense hallucinations and you will always cuz yknow, gamer spirit. But if you try to cheat, which most of the bad people do in this show, you get violent and intense hallucinations as a punishment.
Since the two anime are generally considered two different continuities, its perfectly fine that Yamis characterization is wildly different in both of them. But in the manga both of these characterizations appear, basically one after the other with no real arc or consequences, for that matter. Why is that? Simply put, someone thought it was a good idea to try to turn an episodic, very slice of life-y light-horror manga into a more traditional, more plot-driven battle shounen. From what Ive heard, it was apparently largely because of network interference or something, but the point is, it changed directions incredibly drastically with little planning and everyone knows this and I can understand that for the most part.
In RWBY we have the character of Blake Belladonna, who, in the first 3 volumes/seasons atleast, was this aloof, more toned down loner-type character with a pretty strong sense of justice. She's an in-universe marginilized racial minority and she clearly cares about racial injustice. The way its initially framed makes it seem like she had a very hard life and no stable support system, which is what eventually pushed her to join a Civil Rights group/Terrorist organization (good god, the Faunus subplot is so awful, I could write a whole essay about it but Im already de-railing rn so I'll just save that for later).
Then, in volumes 4-5 it turns out her father is actually like, the mayor or chief of this island-place called Menagerie and she grew up in this big mansion with multiple guards/servants. Oh and also, apparently "space is a commodity" on there, so theres that. She still retains large parts of her personality but she's kinda like, worse somehow I think. I cant really describe it in a meaningful way but I hope you get what Im saying anyway. Then in Volume 6 she confronted her emotional abuser Adam (sorry for not mentioning him sooner but yeah, he was like, her abusive boyfriend, which is something that a lot of people disagree with but I wont really say anything about it either way because I dont really feel any specific way) with her friend, Yang, and ended up killing him.
After all that, she pretty much lost the rest of her personality, as well as her arc about all the Faunus stuff. She just kinda became the meek, generically nice, recovering abuse victim. Why? Well, the actual reason is that they didnt plan out shit and are just kinda flying by the seat of their oversized clown-pants and if they and the fandom just admitted it, I would have less of an issue. I still wouldnt be as forgiving towards RWBY as I am towards YGO because the crux of the issue, for me, is just that I dont particulary like RWBY but also like. Do you really expect me to take MKEK seriously as writers after admitting to not have a timeline because iT wOuLd CaUsE pLoThOlEs?
However, since they want us to believe that everything was planned out from the beginning, the explaination would be.... Idk, they deliberately butchered one of their main characters?? Because.. they hate her?? Maybe????
So yeah, that was quite a detour however, I would like you to keep this mind going forward.
2. Themes of the Early Series'
First, what do mean by 'Early Series' for both of these shows respectively? Well, for YGO that would have to be Season 0 or if youre reading the manga, everything pre-Duelist Kingdom. Basically, the part of the series thats a episodic, very slice of life-y light-horror series.
For RWBY that would be the first three Volumes, also known as the Poser-Era. Back then it was just kinda an action series that took place at Anime Warrior Academy (also known as Beacon) with some pretty bare minimum worldbuilding, character-driven plots and developments but now its more of an epic high-fantasy story with more of an emphasis on plot as opposed to just action.
The themes and messages in Early YGO are kinda vague, very confusing to me and if you were to follow any of it literally that would be pretty bad. For now Im just gonna say the main themes are Friendship and Identity and mostly focus on the Identity aspect.
Now, it took me a little while to figure out RWBYs deal but I think the main themes for Volumes 1-3 are also Friendship and Heroism. Once again, I'll mostly focus on Heroism and touch on Friendship more briefly later.
I dont have much more to add to YGOs themes right now, so I'll briefly go over Heroism in RWBY.
In RWBYs setting there are these man-eating monsters called Grimm that have basically infected the planet. In order to deal with that, they have people called huntsmen and huntresses that kill them and protect people. Theyre trained at special academies like Beacon and go on missions there and stuff like that. Our four main characters, Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang, are training to become huntresses and one day they go on this mission to clean up a grimm infested city block with one of their teachers. Obviously, that takes a long time so they have to camp out in one of the empty houses. Weiss, Blake and Yang cant sleep because theyve been thinking about this question that their teacher asked them when they were fighting grimm: "Why do you want to become a huntress?"
They have a heart to heart and we find out about their motivations; Weiss wants to bring honour back to her family, Blake want to distance herself from the White Fang (that terrorist organization I mentioned earlier) and as an extension from Adam, Yang wants to have a life of adventure. They also talk about why Ruby wants to be a huntress and it turns out that she judt wants to help people. Unlike the others, she has no motivation besides that. We're meant to listen to that and look at her as a sort-of personification of Heroism: kind, but not naive, strong and most of all, selfless. The others on her team are not portayed as bad for not being like Ruby by any means but we are clearly meant to admire her the most out of all of them.
Okay, now comes the part Ive been looking forward to the most:
3. How did these themes evolve in the Modern Series'?
Alright, before we can really delve into the way they evolved in YGO I'll have to give you a brief summary of the character progression. At the start of DM, during the Duelist Kingdom arc, Yami Yuugi is just that; A darker Yuugi. Hes more confident, bolder, his voice is deeper, hes somehow taller, more ruthless, all that good stuff. Notably, he doesnt actually seem more skilled than Yuugi even at the start of this story, but he's still dependent on Yami. Yami on the other hand, has no identity of his own or even hints at one at this point. He's just The Other Yuugi.
Then during the Battle City arc, they find out that Yami was actually a pharao prior to being sealed in the puzzle, he just didnt know because of amnesia, I guess. So now they need to find out his real name and then send him to the afterlife because hes meant to be dead, but not before saving the world from being swallowed by darkness, which is also a thing they have to do now.
Then we finally get to the Memory World arc, where Yami, Yuugi and the rest of the gang astralproject to ancient egypt via puzzle magic. Yami is trying to figure out what the hell is going on and who all these familiar people are, while Yuugi & Co are trying their best to help him. Then some weird shit happens and it turns out that all of that is not just Yamis sealed away memories, but also a giant D&D Shadow Game that will destroy the world if Yami loses. So now theres Pharao!Yami who is still clueless on the metaphorical and literal playing field and Player!Yami, who is kinda controlling himself now? I guess?? Yamis opponent, The Spirit of The Ring, has something similar to that going on where hes both controlling and properly participating in the game. So Player!Yami is now fighting against Player!TSoTR, Pharao!Yami is now fighting against Thief King Bakura (who is like, the human, ancient egyptian version of the Ring Spirit) and Yuugi is now fighting against Yami Bakura (who is like, the human, modern japanese version of the Ring Spirit). Yuugi gets Yamis real name, he and the gang go over to Pharao!Yami and tell him his name, meanwhile Player!Yami is also somehow helping as well and they defeat the Ring Spirit, thus saving the world. Then they travel to modern Egypt, the Ceremonial Duel happens and Yuugi wins, sending Yami to the Afterlife where he can finally rest and that was the series!
I originally wanted to recount the stuff that was going on with the Ring Spirit and his host as well because they parallel eachother, but this summary is already far too long and I think youll get the point without me needing to explain any more.
My point here is, that the story went from being vaguely about Identity, maybe? to being very clearly about Self-Discovery and Learning to Be Independent. I think this is a very good way to evolve the messaging of your story. How does RWBY track on that?
Well, uh... its not great. I will acknowledge that they have tried to introduce new themes and ideas since, even though I wont really be talking about them in this post. But yeah, the whole Heroism thing really regressed.
Like, I didnt explicitly say it when I was explaining grimm earlier, but theyre not going away. The grimm have always been there and people who sign up to become huntsmen and huntresses are effectively signing up for a job that will never truly be done, no matter what they do. Characters like Ruby and even more minor ones like Phyrrah have shown us that that doesnt matter when youre a hero. No life isnt worth saving, no grimm isnt worth killing, no criminal isnt worth arresting. Then, in volume 6 they find out about Salem. Salem is the Big Bad of the show, shes immortal, controls the grimm and is supposed to be very powerful.
What do our heroes do? They give up. Sike! They were just mindcontrolled by monsters or some shit, of course they didnt give up their mission (which is to bring an Important Macguffin to a city called Atlas, sorry I didnt mention it)!
But then they arrive in Atlas (which is llike, a city thats floating over another city called Mantle) and yknow, they do some plot stuff thats not really important right now until the city gets invaded by Salem and this big grimm army she has.
What do our heroes do? Well, Ruby, Weiss, Blake and some side characters are chilling, drinking tea in a mansion and Yang and the B Team were actually trying to do something, but even those efforts seem incredibly minimal.
Oh wait, I also forgot to mention that Ironwood (a fairly minor, vaguely antagonistic character up until now) wanted to lift Atlas even higher to save Atleasian civilians from danger while leaving Mantle vulnerable to Salems invasion.
What would be the most heroic thing to do?
A) Let Ironwood lift Atlas, get as much support as they can down to Mantle and save as many Mantle civilians as they can from the invasion
B) Prevent Ironwood from lifting Atlas but then split up in order to protect both Atlas and Mantle civilians
C) Prevent Ironwood from lifting Atlas and then dont do anything else
Congrats! If you choose C, you think exactly like the writers!
And I just
This is so mindboggling to me, I feel like I shouldnt even have explain how this is bad. And like, it wouldve been so easy to actually make them seem herokc through their actions, to make it seem like they did try but no.
I have never seen a central theme be this botched, how in the world did they do that? Why did they think it was a good idea for Ruby "The Embodiment of Heroism" Rose to sit in a mansion doing nothing, no planning, no organizing just ..... God, how are they this bad? Like, this doesnt even have anything to do with it being planned in any way, this is just straight up incompetence
4. Very briefly touching on friendship
The friendship is awful and its not solely because they all have the same opinions. They barely interact with eachother outside their designated pairs which leads to it all feeling incredibly hollow. Theyre also practically indistingushable from one another now, which is a shame because it wasnt always like that. Like, I dont think the characters were that well-developed in earlier volumes but they were very well-characterized. But now we've gotten to a point where you can literally copy and paste one characters dialogue onto another and literally nothing changes, it really sucks.
5. Some closing words
Damn, this took way longer than I thought it would and now Im pretty exhausted. I have no idea how yall always write these but props to you! I feel like this ended up a bit rambly but overall, Im pretty proud.
Please let me know what you think of the points I brought up! Id also really appreciate some tips on how to get better at these longer posts because I am planning on writing more in the future (not the near future, probably but yknow).
Thats all I have to say for now, thanks for reading!

my entire draft got deleted right after i finished writing + tagging it so i’m doing it all over again - public performances round 2 thoughts (pt 2)
very angry but evidently isn’t stopping me from making this post anyway. (pt 1)
fix me (original song): fu sichao 【付思超】,li luoer 【李洛尔】, rong yao 【荣耀】, yu yang 【于洋】,lu dinghao 【陆定昊】
love how they let fu sichao and li luoer write a song aka what they’re most comfortable with for a public performance  lu dinghao’s high note left me shook  only for yu yang’s final part to leave me all alone to recover in a ditch the both of them nailed their parts  i really like rong yao’s part of the rap especially and of course his voice was stellar  the song managed to bring together all their strong suits while pushing their limits at the same time it was great
i don’t care: bo yuan 【伯远】,gan wangxing 【甘望星】,shao mingming 【邵明明】,wu yuheng 【吴宇恒】,jing long 【井胧】
ok yall know.  i’m sure yall kNOW i’m a bo yuan stan he’s pratically my ult on this entire show but let’s talk about jing long for a moment because resident vocal king slayed and knew he was slaying while at it i loved how he played with the dynamics of his voice to add some spice to it instead of just going at it with full power all the way through if that makes sense  gan wangxing has this beautiful baritone voice that i’ve ben dying to hear since he sang unbreakable love! because of that i literally realised that baritones are my biggest weakness  i loved how he captured the slightly aggressive nonchalance of the song through his expressions while performing (might be thanks to his face naturally but he did it nonetheless) wu yuheng brought out a side to him that i never thought existed without this i never would have guessed he would even come near to killing a concept like this  also somehow made an ugly ass bowl cut look good  i (finally) realised that what attracted attracts me to bo yuan as a performer is how he goes on stage and you can just tell that he enjoys himself every. single. time. without fail it’s insane
therefore i am: hiroto 【井汲大翔】,lelush 【利路修】,xie xingyang 【谢兴阳】,zhang teng 【张腾】zhang jiayuan 【张嘉元】
now this was an unexpected one for me  this stage probably was my favourite in terms of choreographic design - the white vs black? the white gradually being removed that ends with basically all black? the choreography itself for the story? top tier  i love xie xingyang as an actor and now i want to see him take on a psycho-ish role because of his facials here they were just that good  similar for hiroto like you have this adorable japanese boy who all the chinese trainees are in love with and then you have him on this stage being absolutely unhinged and going feral beyond belief we love to see it  zhang teng’s bit where they’re sitting on the floor? revolutionary didn’t get the zhang jiayuan hype but he really could catch my attention here - that final expression did it all for me really
joker (original choreography): xu shaolan 【徐绍岚】,ren yinpeng 【任胤蓬】,wu hai 【吴海】,santa 【赞多】,rikimaru 【力丸】
santa and rikimaru doing well is a given  but the one who really did it for me here was wu hai  it was so nice to see him in his element more as a professional dancer than an idol  although i did get the feeling that he was holding back almost like he could have gone off even harder than he did  the three of them did an amazing job at creating a piece that brought out their respective strengths  that being said though it would be so nice to see both santa and rikimaru perform something that isn’t dance-focused / a dance genre that isn’t right up their alley the way all their previous performances on the show were  when the mentors were making comments i just had a thought that was like ‘i wanna see santa do something cutesy (撒娇 was the term i had lol)’ which basically sums up that whole sentiment
crab dance: gui shangqi 【贵尚奇】,ichika 【上原一翔】,wang xiaochen 【王孝晨】,amu 【羽生田拳武】,he yifan 【何屹繁】
comedic performances (imo) are usually hit or miss but this one did enough for me  amu hard carried this with his facials i lost it everytime the camera was on him omg  it’s almost like mate was literally made to perform this song  cross-eyed he yifan is something i never thought i would see but i loved it  the choreo was hella funny as well and that really helped their intros before voting were so funny??? maybe that’s just me having no sense of humour but i died there
you better not think about me: nine 【高卿尘】,mika 【米卡】,patrick 【尹浩宇】,zhang xingte 【张星特】,yu gengyin 【余更寅】
i have to say that thing yu gengyin sat on up to the middle of the first chorus was very cool  all five of them are both strong and popular and after this stage i can clearly tell that ‘disappoint’ is nowhere close to existing in their vocabularies yu gengyin’s voice is to die for throughout but that last line where he was tearing up crushed my heart into a million pieces  didn’t think much of nine before this but he really shone singing this song he deserved that mvp spot  as soothing as mika’s voice is it would be so cool to hear him have a ‘powerful’ vocal moment if you know what i mean  honestly all their voices are beautiful on their own but an absolute masterpiece together  they also brought out the emotions of a song that i personally really love so well props to them  also unbreakable love 2.0 was an added bonus HAHAHA

Sangcheng Time Travel Fixit Outline Part 2: Sunshot
(Part 1)
The adventure continues! This post contains some adult language and some more frank discussion of sangcheng’s sex life. Also features Jiang Cheng: Fashionista
Tumblr media
After the Wangxian wedding, they all return home…
…save for Wei Wuxian, who goes off with Lan Wangji to search for the other pieces of Yin Iron
…and Madame Yu, who takes Yanli to Koi Tower to begin the plans for her wedding to Zixuan. While this doesn’t lead directly to Jin Guangshan’s death, it does pave the way for a limited-to-non existent power vacuum after he does die, later in the story, sorry spoilers.
They limit his access to wine and women, which will make him act more recklessly. They support Jin Zixuan finding answers for himself, as well as his project to collect his siblings (remembering what Jiang Cheng said to him about being lonely)
…and Nie Huaisang and Jiang Cheng sneak away to meet Wangxian and Wen Qing at Dafan Mountain.
This goes relatively as before because Nie Huaisang’s plans means they kinda need to invoke the indoctrination to defeat the Xanwu of Slaughter before the Wens decide to unleash it on the countryside
When they retreat to the Unclean Realm, Nie Mingjue is not happy that Nie Huaisang ran off.
Nie Mingjue does the “older brother meets new boyfriend” thing to Jiang Cheng – who realizes that he’s actually *older* than Nie Mingjue and might leave an odd impression, but Nie Mingjue likes Jiang Cheng, and the way he speaks of Nie Huaisang (like he’s precious but also capable).
Nie. Zonghui.
Nie Huaisang may orchestrate the demise of Xue Yang. Oops. Sorry Meng Yao. (except Meng Yao doesn’t seem that upset by it. “Hm. Maybe he can be rehabilitated/kept from Jin Guangshan’s clutches” “Whatever you want, dear”)
Nie Huaisang’s network pays off, and they receive word that the Wens are marching on Gusu. Nie Mingjue musters a force to their aid. Wangxian head back to help defend Gusu. Jiang Cheng flies to Yungmeng – Lotus Pier is also an ally of Gusu and will also muster forces.
There is a question as to whether Jiang Cheng should defend Lotus Pier or help defend Gusu. Jiang Fengman sees Jiang Cheng as a child, and wants him “safe” at Lotus Pier. Jiang Cheng also knows there’s a possibility that Lotus Pier will be attacked, and his desire for bloodshed is at war with his feat that he will lose Lotus Pier again.
In the end, Jiang Cheng leads a force to help Gusu and even though he doesn’t yet have Zidian, it’s the first time we see Sandu Shengshu in this timeline.
Cloud Recesses do not burn.
Wangxian arrived with enough time to help shore up defences – there are no guards at the gates, but the wards have strengthened.
The Wen force ends up trapped between the Lans ahead of them and the Nie and Jiang behind.
Wen Xu  is killed…by Jiang Cheng.
The Jiangs, the Nie, and a contingent of Lans head for Lotus pier to wait for Wen chao and Wen Zhuilu, who will come to avenge his brother
Jin Zixuan arrives with a force of Jin cultivators…and Zidian.
“Your mother insisted. I didn’t ask questions, she’s scary”
It’s because she heard of his victory and decided it’s time. She’s been busy helping Madame Jin undermine Jin Guangshan and cut him off from his internal power. You see, while in Koi Tower, she noticed how deep the corruption runs, and how frustrated her friend has been, and has decided that it’s more important to make her daughter the next Madame of Koi Tower sooner rather than later.
Jiang Cheng makes a note to tell Nie Huaisang, because that will *directly impact his plans*
Word comes from Huaisang that they’re coming – and that they have a man on the inside (Wen Ning)
Wen Chao attacks Lotus Pier
It’s a full frontal attack this time
The line “…but water does not burn” or “fire can not burn water” is uttered because I’m like that.
Jiang Cheng holds up Wen Zhuilu with Zidian and Nie Mingjue kills him. Wei Wuxian claims Wen Chao (again).
It’s now full scale War, and they have to move quickly. The war council is held in Lotus Pier this time. Sunshot has officially begun.
It gets handwavy because I don’t actually care about battles, so fast forward to the end of the campaign.
Meng Yao stays Meng Yao (for now) and runs the unclean realm as Huaisang plays central intelligence.
Jiang Yanli runs a field hospital in Lanling
Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are fearsome (and Wei Wuxian may be playing with some more heretical ideas to counter the “puppets” but not on the same scale). Zewu Jun is a legend. Sandu Sengshu gets his name. (Jiang Cheng may occasionally forget how old he isn’t. The first time he rolls into camp and his father is there he nearly has a meltdown).
The final battle at Nevernight happens more quickly than before mostly because Wen Rohan is taken by surprise and also undermined by Wen Qing and Wen Ning
In the end, he is paralyzed by Wen Qing and Wen Ning kills him.
When the forces break down the door, they find Rohan dead, with Wen Qing and Wen Ning surrendering
The Aftermath.
So, the fallout from the Sunshot Campaign is a bit different. Despite Nie Huaisang’s plotting, there was never an indoctrination, so they never hunted the Xanwu of slaughter, so there is a rogue piece of Yin Iron in the wilds of Qishan.
Wen Rohan’s Yin Iron Pieces (of which he only had 2, as he never gets the one from Gusu as The Cloud Recesses never fall, Xue Yang’s piece is in Qinghe in the care of Nie Huaisang, and then, of course, the Xanwu) become the custody of Lanling Jin, a move that is not subtle, but the others don’t really have a reason to deny Jin Guangshan’s claims of being a safe haven – Lanling did take the least amount of damage in the war, as it was never directly attacked, and boasts that they have the means to suppress the Yin Iron.
It’s observed (by Nie Huaisang) that it’s Gusu Lan that has the reputation for suppression skills, but it does little at this time but sow discontent. It will come to fruition later.
As the spy was not Meng Yao (and as he never makes a deal with Xue Yang and loses Nie Mingjue’s trust) but Wen Ning (with help from Wen Qing, who finds out what her brother is doing an insists), Meng Yao ends up remaining with the Nie and he and Wen Qing are able to advocate (to the right people) for a reduction in status for the Wen clan rather than a total eradication. Thus, Qishan Wen becomes the minor clan of Yilling Wen. (I know they are Dafan Wen, but I think the clan is “moved” to that a major house can keep an eye on them. Yunmeng is chosen because of proximity/maybe he volunteers?) Jiang Cheng feels some complicated way about that.
Meng Yao, by the way, has privilege, power, and respect from a clan leader he actually trusts and admires. He has a growing relationship with the next heir to Langling Jin, and has seen the way Jin Guangshan’s power is being undermined. He decides he wants no part of that. He’s still a little murder beast, however, and Nie Huaisang will one day take advantage of that
I’m having a hard time not thinking of this as an endgame 3zun romance, so that’s probably going to start to happen about now.
The Banquet
The battle ends and they take the time to rest and recover before holding the formal banquet. It’s a few days out from the end of the fighting so they can heal, get everyone gathered, get better robes fetched from home (I assume, they show up all clean in the show after all), and properly handle the dead.
This means that not only does Nie Huaisang attend, but he is dressed well – closer to the way he dressed as Sect Leader Nie than he would have the first time around, but he’s means business and he has missed his finer clothes
Jiang Cheng straight up rolls up looking like Sandu Sengshu, Sect Leader of Yungmeng Jiang, walking in out of Huaisangs fantasies-I-mean-memories. The only difference is his hairpiece and the depth of purple of his outermost robes. (It looks like that deep purple is reserved for the sect leader, so his father would be there in it). But, otherwise, he is decked OUT. Bling. Nails. Perhaps a little eye shadow. For a treat.
I like the idea of Jiang Cheng using his appearance as a way to gain confidence, and he would want to dress like himself because he was not HIMSELF during this banquet the first time around.
Jiang Fengmian is confused by his son’s sudden fashion sense and totally fails to understand that his son is a grown man. Madame Yu looks proud because he’s finally asserting himself, but confused a bit as to HOW he’s asserting himself.
Huaisang nearly swallows his tongue, and has to hide behind a fan until he can be sure he can control his expression. Mingjue is the only one who notices and totally laughs at him for his “crush”
There’s a brief moment during the introductions where the group from Gusu reconnect. Nobody seems to notice but Madame Yu, who is pleased by what she sees as an alliance/chance to build allies.
The biggest announcement is that of the Mountain Hunt/Floral Banquet in one months’ time, but instead of it coming after the awkward attempt to reinstate the engagement between Yanli and Zixuan (who are already engaged), it’s to celebrate the reunification of the cultivation world. A return to normalcy. (Also, where the wedding will be formally announced. Jin Guangshan wouldn’t want to overshadow one with the other, and it was Madame Jin’s idea)
Nie Huaisang, with a much more nuanced understanding of politics and a greater reason to pay attention realizes that the main problem moving forward is not just Jin Guangshan like he remembered, but all the members of the older ruling class. The minor sects always follow the major, but with Nie Mingjue uninterested in politics, Lan Xichen too passive with his politics, and Jiang Fengmian too accommodating, the one who rules is the one with the loudest voice – and in this case it’s Jin Guangshan.
Then, of course, Jin Guangshan begins making allusions to having Wen Qing marry – to more fully bind her hands, “give her the protection of a major house” and “cement peace and new order” ie – a way to control her and gain access to her assets under the guise of inter-sect unity
Huaisang and Meng Yao both realize this, but know they can’t actually say much. Significant eye contact is made with Yanli, Nie Huaisang says something “foolish” to gain attention while she whispers to Zixuan, who then speaks out against Wen Qing marrying – “certainly it’s too soon…” basically giving Wen Qing the same push off that Yanli used the first time. It is effective, enough, but not as much as it was for Yanli
However, Huaisang is aware of the efforts to cut him off from his power, so he puts the problem of Jin Guangshan on the back burner, focusing instead on ways to make the others see that Jin Guangshan is an issue without accidentally provoking the next clan war.
The biggest issue to deal with, for Huaisang, is removing the Yin Iron from play – without the carrot, Jin Guangshan will be less of a nuisance and Nie Huaisang could focus on more important things like preventing his brother from early qi-deviation and finding new things from himself and Jiang Cheng to do in the bedroom.
Which gives him an idea. “Change of plans, Wanyin. We need to court publicly.” Luckily Jiang Cheng was tired of sneaking around. Of course, he plans on broaching the topic with his mother after they return home. Nie Huaisang has other plans, and at this point, Jiang Cheng is willing to follow his lead.
Jin Guangshan turns out to be a slipperier snake than Nie Huaisang planned, and manages to do some harm before he’s finally taken out.
GusuLan Class of ’84 reunion!!
Thoroughly disgusted by how little has changed (so much has changed, but it seems to be making such a little difference), Jiang Cheng leaves the banquet as soon as he can sneak away. He can do this now – he’s not sect leader. He finds an empty courtyard to brood, and is “interrupted” by Nie Huaisang, who saw him leave. They have a moment before…
Wei Wuxian shows up with wine and Lan Wangji. Lan Wangji brings his guqin and begins to play – simple music, low enough to talk over, but loud enough to make it hard to overhear.
This would be a fun moment for Wei Wuxian to be like “So, my dude, my friend, my buddy, my pal…you like my brother?” “I’d hope so, considering what we’ve been getting up to since we got to Gusu” “wuxian.exe has stopped working” “not everybody is as shameless as you, Wei Wuxian.” “Though, I do try.”
Wen Ning, Meng Yao, and Jin Zixuan show up next – they each realized the others were missing independently and met up on their search. Wen Ning brought snacks. Zixuan has a surprisingly nice voice, and begins to sing along when Wangji plays a song with lyrics. Meng Yao pulls out something like dice or cards.
Yanli, Wen Qing, and Mianmian appear with more snacks, and a strong desire to keep these idiots from doing anything stupid. Yanli has (soft, loving, terrible) words for Jiang Cheng for keeping his relationship a secret. Wen Qing has some *choice* words to say about Jin Guangshan and marriage in general
This is a chance for them to be silly and young.
***If I was going to do a dance scene, (and I’m not confident that I could, but I do love them so much) this would be it Lan Wangji is entreated to play something to dance to - perhaps Wei Wuxian joins with his dizi, maybe someone pulls out something drumable, but either way,  you have an impromptu jam session, as usually happens when you have teenagers who can play in one space together.
Wei Wuxian dances constantly, the minute the music starts
Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian dance something local to Lotus Pier - it’s similar to their martial style, acrobatic and flowing, and eye catching
Jin Zixuan is a wallflower until someone flings him into the dance - maybe it’s Mianmian, maybe it’s Wen Ning, but either way he ends up blushing like hell but manages to ask Jiang Yanli to dance
Of course Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang dance. It’s very sweet.
Either way, Huaisang says the following to Jiang Cheng under the guise of sweet nothings: The war is won. They have a moment to breathe, and they need to breathe because they both know how bad it could be and they’ll need to be ready to fight. But also, that this is half the fight right here – their parents/older brother might be stuck in the rut of the same old politics, but their children are friends, and if that friendship could be fostered into alliances, then they could avoid war and keep each other in check. Maybe, just maybe, they could keep more of their loved ones alive, if they weren’t all trying to do this alone.
Of course Jiang Cheng has to kiss him then, because he knows he means their brothers, he knows he means his sister and Zixuan (and Jin Ling, who Jiang Cheng still misses like an ache). It’s a bit more honest, more passionate than is technically proper for public, but Jiang Cheng has gone through caring and come out the other side, his love is here, before him, and he’d be a fool to let that slip from him.
…which would be the perfect time for their parents to stumble across them on their way out of the banquet.
Jiang Fengmian is bewildered (because he still looks without seeing at his son, and it hurts but whatever, he has A-Sang now)
Madame Yu is instantly calculating. If Jiang Cheng is tied to Nie Huaisang, that means Lotus Pier is connected by marriage to the remaining major houses, which gives LP a lot of political power.
Nie Mingjue takes a moment to be sure this is what Huaisang wants (it is), ignores Lan Xichen (who is only barely containing his mirth behind a too-wide smile) and suggests that they meet the next day (with clear heads) to open negotiations. “Acceptable” “…what?”
Negotiating the Marriage Contract
Jiang Wanyin has a long overdue conversation with his parents
Dad, you don’t see me
Mom, the secret to appearing strong is to ignore the rumors. The minute you let them dictate your actions, you’ve lost
….and ffs, when we need heirs we can adopt or something. It’s rare enough that I’m attracted to Huaisang, if we wait for a woman to appeal, I’m going to be blacklisted by every matchmaker (again). Funnily enough, this is something his father backs him up on – both because of achieving the impossible, but also because he’s determined his children will find love matches
Meng Yao and Nie Huaisang tag-team prepping Mingjue for the meeting. This is the sort of thing he’s really bad at, after all. (not because he can’t but because it’s where he directs the least amount of effort – partially because that’s something he can rely on Meng Yao and Huaisang for)
“A-Yao, you’ll be with me…” “As your seneschal, not as your equal. I won’t be able to simply jump in – I’ll have to be selective.”
Nie Huaisang to himself: …A-yao???? Oh, nononono (oh yes! But not yet. I think I like the idea of never saying exactly when they get together, they just *are* at some point and Nie Huaisang *does not want to know*)

[FULL] 10 _ OUR SONGS (The last team in the rankings (5th) will be leaving the show :’()
+ DDR and Cart Racing. Too cute. Shen Shen.
10:56 - MC: Qi-ge, you’re such a cool guy, and you love racing. Why did you let Yuning race, instead of doing it yourself? RXQ: I know YN’s skills. Another thing is that everyone knows that I love racing. For me to win, is obvious. Losing would lose me too much face. So, I thought it would be better to let YN do it. LYN: Qi-ge saw that I really wanted to play, so he let me do it. MC: Let me tell you, through the whole course, the fastest in speed was actually XZ. But the trophy goes to LYN.
Zhou Huajian x Jiang Yiqiao - 阴天 (Yin Tian)
22:40 - MC: I think we can all completely understand how FYQ lost at DDR, being his first time playing. What happened to you while racing? A: There were really very skilled people there. HJ-dage is too awesome. ZhanZhan- skilled. Yuning. They drove so well that I couldn’t even see them, and I was driving fast enough. MC: I notice there’s one person you haven’t mentioned- Zhou Shen. A: ShenShen and I were side by side. He was behind me. ZS: He speaks too highly of me. I was on a different playing field completely. ZHJ: Can I say this? A: Say? ZS: ?? ZHJ: Zhou Shen drove in the opposite direction.
[ShenShen trying to learn the route from Yuning] 24:10 - LYN: There’s only one way. ZS: There’s only one? LYN: Just don’t go on the grass and you’ll be fine. There’s only one way. ZS: Everyone, please be careful! If you see me on the road, please make way!! – A: Sometimes you can see a person-less cart roaming around. ZS: That is to say, all you could see of me was the helmet. HL: Don’t go driving out on the street like that. ZS: I won’t. I won’t even drive a car.
Fei Yuqing x Ayanga - 卷珠帘 (Juan Zu Lian) x 凤凰于飞 (Feng Huang Yu Fei)
26:51 - RXQ: Wow, they have a qin?! 26:59 - ZS: We don’t have anything. HL: We have dry ice!
34:28 - MC: The first two groups were already so amazing. The third group- to sing after these two amazing seniors… (how do you feel?) XZ: I’m just very nervous. Because the first two groups were too good x3 MC: You have to know. Na-jie told me she was definitely coming back. XZ: /mental breakdown/ XZ: OK! She will. She will.
Angela Chang x Xiao Zhan - 呐喊 (Na Han | Shout)
35:46 - MC: I wonder if the other teams feel like this is unfair. Other Teams: ?? Zhan: ! MC: Because it feels like there are three people on Na-Zhan Team (instead of two). There’s someone behind the scenes always giving them input! ZHJ: Yes, yes, yes. How about we cut them by 50 points? MC: First cut 50 points off? XD XZ: !! 🙏 (have mercy)
37:14 - XZ: People’s impression of me, they always say I’m 文质彬彬 (elegant and simple, elegant and polite). I sing very lyrical songs. But really I.. I do have a different heart. So I’m very thankful that Angela-laoshi is here, and is willing to help me perform different things. I’m pretty happy. A: /looks at Zhan Zhan/ XZ: /looks back/ Really! A: Thank you.
42:14 - MC: Are you feeling satisfied? A: I’m feeling pretty smug. XZ: Yeah. MC: XZ. This is the first time I’ve seen your veins bursting out. XZ: LOL MC: This song is actually quite difficult. XZ: Yes. To me, there was some difficulty. MC: Then why did you decide to take on this challenge? XZ: Because I really like this song. When I… was still in my youth… /Angela elbows him/ I remember this song was about a small girl who was shouting out the things in her heart, wanting to grow up. She wanted to be accepted by the world and didn’t want to be pushed down by insignificant things. When I heard the new arrangement, I thought “Wow”. This girl has already grown up and she has her own views of the world now. She made her own breakthrough. This song is meaningful not only to Angela-laoshi, but also to me. I really want to breakthrough and shout out what’s in my heart.
43:14 - MC: Throughout this whole program I’ve found that two people always sing along. One is Yuning, the other is Zhou Shen. LYN: I’m shocked. The reason I was singing along was actually because I was warming up- it’s my turn soon. A/XZ: LOL MC: ZS, you’re not also warming up, are you? ZS: Uh…this is. Uh. That is- when I was- Also… XZ: In your youth! ZS: In my youth I would also regularly listen to this song. So I was brought back to that time.
44:08 - MC: Qi-ge, you’re very calm. RXQ: I’m here to savor in the musical feast! I was shocked because XZ looks like he’s very 斯文秀气 (handsome and delicate) but when he was singing “Shout” his explosive force- I thought I was seeing a solitary prince going to rescue his princess. In this distant kingdom, song coming from all sides, he bravely pulled his sword and went forth. I saw this sort of image. XZ: Thank you Qi-ge. Thank you.
Ren Xianqi x Liu Yuning - 天涯 (Tian Ya | Horizon)
53:13 - MC: This is Qi-ge’s “TianYa”, right? I’d like to take the opportunity to let everyone know of the background behind this song. The composer of this song is a well known Japanese singer-songwriter Miyuki Nakajima. RXQ: Yes. MC: When I was looking up this information I found out that this song she made especially for you.  RXQ: Yes, she wrote it for me. I had done a cover of 伤心太平洋 (Shang Xin Tai Ping Yang) before. I made an MV, and I sent it to her. She really liked it and ended up sending me a song. That song was 天涯.  Hacken Lee x Zhou Shen - 天下有情人 (Tian Xia You Qing Ren) [1:01:22 - XZ’s reaction to the song. Same. OMG. Zhou Shen’s an angel.]
1:05:30 - ZHJ: First off, I’d really like to thank the two of you, from the bottom of my heart. No matter what product, what song, it needs a good singer to give it life. I had always thought that the collaboration between me and Qi Yu would be invincible. I really want to thank you for giving this song new life. Thank you, thank you.  ZHJ: I also want to sincerely tell everyone… please don’t forget about us. We are- JYQ: Number 1. Yin Tian.
1:04:43 - RXQ: I always thought in my heart that Zhou Shen was like Peter Pan. LKQ: You mean his physical stature is like Peter Pan? ZS: OTL RXQ: His music has a pure (newborn) quality. His voice has the power to uplift you. Their voices together- still gives me same thought- a match made in heaven. Amazing.
1:07:17 - MC: After today’s performance, Angela will be leaving us. Do you feel unwilling? These performances really are very wonderful. A: Of course. I really want to thank everyone on stage with me today. I think- with my collaboration this time, singing together with Xiao Zhan- I really feel that he is a very polite chi-child… Also meeting these seniors, and getting to know them more in-depth, I understand that these are very exemplary models. Not matter whether it is about professionalism on stage, or even off-stage, every one is very kind. This could be my last time playing with everyone this week. Thank you all.
+ Special Collab Stage: Fei Yuqing x Zhou Huajian + LMAO. Peanut oil CF
1:16:52 - XZ: /receives the envelope/ Thank you. /turns around and hands it to Angela/ Here. A: Hehe. You’re so cute. XZ: I’m a little nervous. A: Do you want me to open it? XZ: Ahh, I don’t want to see it. A: Oh. I saw some words. A: … XZ: Tell me. Does it say we’re out. No way… A: OH. XZ: AH?? A: … XZ: What sort of reaction is that? /can’t stand it anymore and looks/ A: I’m gonna say it! My Dearest Na–Zhan Team… Congratulations on ranking third place. We look forward to your next performance!
1 - Fei Yuqing x Ayanga 2 - Hacken Lee x Zhou Shen (lol @ Hacken’s “YAYYYYYY”) 3 - Na Ying | Angela x Xiao Zhan 4 - Zhou Huajian x Jiang Yiqiao 5 - Ren Xianqi x Liu Yuning ( OH NOOOO :’( )
1:26:16 - ZHJ: It really looks like they’re stepping on cockroaches. XZ: LOL

on one hand im happy that this means there’s gonna be a lot of official content since the eps are supposedly so long that they gotta cut them in half.
youku has been pretty consistent with giving us a relatively good amount of official content. but on the other hand im always slightly concerned that by splitting up perfs, those whose perfs get aired first will have a competitive voting advantage since (as long as they do well) those kids will have a full extra day of persuading people to vote for them through their stage performance. It’s not as huge of a deal as when other shows split performances across weeks, because a whole week ahead is a much bigger advantage than one day ahead. but every day can help those who need the votes. at least akey and zhan yu got aired today.... feels bad for jin fan because he really needs the votes.
also another down side is just this show’s eps are SO LONG they’re eating up a ton of my free time LOOOL but thats how these shows always go for me... because I always end up taking like double the amount of time to watch an ep, just to pause, digest, rewatch sections that i like (sometimes multiple times), make sure i understand, etc. i feel like these shows always consume my life during the few months they’re airing so i’ll just enjoy it while I can HAH
..
anyway ep 4 starting with singapore buddies huang junrong and sun yinghao speaking english with their singapore accents!!!!! lol can totally relate to yinghao tho, like when you cant read chinese you gotta find someone to translate for you
yang chaowen with dog!!!!! i wonder if the dog really likes him LOL they seem to appear together on camera often. akey with chen junhao!! and zuo linjie!! making friends!!!
lol i feel like the group leader choice method is some sort of extended advertisement for knock off apple products lol.........
HAHAHHAHAHAH LIN MO’S VIDEO STARTING OFF ALL FORMAL AND NERVOUS AND THEN XUE EN’S CUTS HIM WITH HIM BEING STUPID. I LOVE IT. there’s two types of people. how did they not vote for xue en HAHAHAH
interesting that they picked the songs for the self-composition group ahead of time, rather than make them make the song as part of the competition (looks at produce camp... fireman is my jam but the east binhe road team ran into complications with that, so I can see why it’d be more risky to let them do that again) but lucky for zheng renyu and li chenxu tho! I’m interested in hearing their music so i dont mind, just kinda wondering what the other kids who picked composition would’ve brought to the table
oh theyre still giving yan an screen time... every time i see him im happy but then feel oof
oo zhanyu’s first stage look is just so nice oof xikan talking to lin mo but lin mo looks ded and is all eye patched up :(
LOL su er all jubilant over a sexy concept song - good luck with that
oooof this shot of jin fan’s perfect side angle
Tumblr media
aw akey being bested by shaopeng at every match... but im so excited to see what they can do together, theyre both so good at making music!!!! the resident music makers for each of their respective groups, tyger and coreone, theyre both so talented! def shaopeng has and deserves the credit but hopefully people will see akey contributed too bc im sure the two of them really led together, being the most experienced rappers hahaha
WHOA csp opening up to qu boyu and saying he has older step brother and sister who have a different mom from him and encouraging him to just be real when writing because there will be people out there who connect with his lyrics awww hes really taking this child under is wing and teaching him from zero, hes really like a big bro taking care of him and enjoying watching him grow. im glad csp is opening up and is self reflective enough to realize that he hasnt done so enough in the past and that he should involve himself more with the others.
im happy cui shaopeng got to feature in the bts clip for his group, he deserves it and hasnt gotten much screentime relative to his talent before. im happy akey got a little time and some recognition for his skills too. honestly just happy akey FINALLY got to do a rap stage..... wish we couldve gotten more huang enyu and huang junrong but im happy they got to show off their vocals!! for being young vocals in a rap performance, their stage presence were both really good too! csp’s entrance is epic wow.
wow this is the most hyper performance ive ever seeeen wow im so happy for akey because we know how long hes been waiting for a rap stage and wow csp’s leadership must be top notch to get this group to somehow be cohesive with such a not cohesive song LOL i respect that csp really respected akey’s skill and let him shine too. akey was a second c if ive ever seen one lol. they both got to shine and so did everyone else in their group, which is telling of his leadership and why this stage turned out so well that even all the teachers like jackson were so hype LOL
OOF shen bohuai and lin mo talking about how akey’s lyrics are so moving like lin mo wanted to cry and bohuai felt like he could tell akey’s been through a lot
lol xikan and bohuai being all tough and lin mo being like lol i feel the pressure. shaopeng smiling like a proud parent when boyu gets good comments c: oof rip akey and shaopeng’s votes tho :c
lin ran’s look tho LOL but zhan yu’s is so questionable?? why is he in this group ?? LOL but i guess its his turn to do something cutesy. mannnn why does zhan yu look like hes surrounded by children but hes not even that much older//?? hahahha ooooo is this the center zhan yu of legend?? ?hahahah yayyy hopefully more people will notice him! you know when i heard zhan yu was gonna be center, this was not the type of song i was imagining, but hey if it takes a cutesy happy song and a bunch of little kids around to get zhan yu a chance to be center, ill take it! i wish they’d show us some practice footage?? im confused why there isnt any?? i think sun boran’s stage presence is good! zhan yu’s voice so powerful yess somehow he managed to show off different aspects of his vocal skills in this very plain song LOL  im surprised lin ran didnt stand out a lot but when they pointed out that he purposefully put himself in the back to protect his team members i think that makes sense bc he knows being cute isn’t going to be able to win them as many votes but if the less popular kids in his group dont get votes, its a lot more devastating for them than for himself. lin ran didnt want this song and he didnt want to be cute but he really didnt want kids to suffer from choosing his group. lin ran has a cute image but i appreciate that this time we got to see a more serious side of him. isnt it ridiculous that theyve literally trashed zuo qibo and lin mo about being old but then literally i didnt realize until now sun yinghao is the oldest??? (he looks really young wow and so tiny aw) but also like they never bring up akey being old either?? some sort of weird bias going on... but i mean good for yinghao and akey lol
but aw im glad theyre giving yinghao some attention... 10 years and starting off with jackson? oof...
ayy zhan yu getting the most votes!!
kou cong being older bro to zlj but also ultimate mentor to cxh aw yay for him getting some recognition from the judges and jin fan supporting him too heheh but it says a lot that he recognizes cxh’s efforts and wanted to put in his own effort to help him
i wonder if them giving zlj less audience votes is an elaborate scheme to get him more pity votes from the general public lol.... well im excited to see the rest of the stages tomorrow!

DEATH BATTLE Review: Weiss vs. Misturu
Y’know, I had a gag planned when that required Weiss to be introduced after two other RWBY Characters that I don’t think I can do anymore since Weiss got introduced before them. Maybe I can do a deleted scenes thing later…
Two Ice Queens battle for the true reign over the ice castle!
Weiss′s Preview.
The world of Remnant is full of many things that make it famous. From the vicious creatures of Grimm, to the Huntsman and Huntresses that are sworn to fight them, and many many more. But in this world, you’d be hard pressed to find a person who has never heard of the Schnee family.
And like any famous family, these guys are like royalty. And their princess, is Weiss Schnee.
Tumblr media
Like many children born to great families, Weiss’ home life wasn’t that fun. Her father had high expectations for her, and she was set to just run the place… Whenever that happens. But, in defiance to her father’s wishes, she got out and joined Beacon Academy, an illustrious school where everyone can learn how to fight monsters. And once she joined a team, she put the ‘W’ in team RWBY.
Tumblr media
But Weiss can’t just get by with money. So like most Hunters (Which is what I’m going to be calling them so that I can save some space), Weiss got herself a weapon, which Boomstick nicknamed Merc-Nasty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This rapier is nearly three feet in length, and, much like nearly every other weapon in the show, it doubles as a gun (insert “it’s also a gun” joke here)!
Myrtenaster comes equipped with a six-slot Dust chamber. And unlike the dust in our world, the Dust in this world is special. Similar to the materia from Final Fantasy or Crystals from Storm Hawks, these all come with their own stats and effects.
Tumblr media
Weiss is a fan of combining water and wind to create Ice Dust
Tumblr media
But, if you’re going to fight giant shadow monsters, criminals, and godzilla dragons, you’re  going to need way more than just a stick to fight them with.
Tumblr media
Think of Semblances as “X-Men” powers. They’re all unique in their own ways. However, Weiss’ Semblance is a bit different. In the sense that instead of it being unique, it’s actually inherited through her family line. Kinda like the mark of the Joestar (Before you ask, no. No Jojo character is up next. I’m upset about it too).
Weiss’ Semblance lets her do all sorts of crazy stuff. From manipulating gravity, to time dilation, to manipulating dust.
But most impressive of all, is the summons, which lets Weiss act like Yuna from FF X and bring out monsters she’s beaten to fight alongside her.  And the most powerful one of all, would be knight, the Arma Gigas… Which means “Giant Armor” in Latin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But yeah. Weiss’ family is pretty dysfunctional, and kinda abusive at times. Her Colonel Sanders-looking dad up there cut her out of the family line, leaving her piece of shit brother as the sole heir to the company.
But if there are any physical weaknesses Weiss has, it would probably be her durability.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aura is finite, and takes time to recharge. Sure, you’re basically invincible when you do have it, but when it’s out, you’re out.  And compared to Best Girl Yang (Fight me), Weiss’ durability isn’t that great. And since using her Semblance also burns aura, she’s more likely to run out sooner rather than later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But Weiss is pretty tough. She once managed to survive a train crash. Judging by the size of the fragmentation, and applying the appropriate mathematics, the amount of force Weiss withstood comes out to be about…
Tumblr media
Not good enough?- Then how about the time she knocked over a giant mech that was designed to fight giant leviathan grimm?
Judging by the size of her partner beside her, Weiss’ output of force should come around to about…
Tumblr media
And it’s unlikely that Weiss is doing this using only dust. So, by using the water,  we can get an estimate as to how much energy is being used for this attack.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those of you wondering, this translates to over 230 tons of TNT!
Tumblr media
Forget Dust. Weiss could make a killing on giving people renewable power alone.
Tumblr media
Weiss might not be the strongest of her team, but with her newfound family, she’s certainly proven that she is far more than just a name. And she’s out to prove that this life is hers.
Tumblr media
Misturu′s Preview.
In the early 2000s, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone in Japan who hasn’t heard of the Kirjio group, a global conglomerate that was involved in nearly every aspect of daily life. .
Tumblr media
And just like any other major company like this, they had a family. And this princess, was known as Mitsuru Kirijo
Tumblr media
One day, Mitsuru’s Grandfather was experimenting with some sort of mental world called “The Mind Place.” Officially known as “The collective unconscious.” Because companies doing shady business deals is apparently something we should expect. When is news going to break out that Disney does have their founder’s head in a jar?
Tumblr media
Anyways, the Mind Place connects every living being’s subconscious mind. Things known as “Shadows” lived there.
Tumblr media
These things are basically demons. But if you want to see an inner demon, you find a person’s “Shadow Self.”
Surprise surprise, Grandpa Kirijo decided to try and get to the shadows for himself. But, as per usual, summoning demons never works out… Unless you play an Archfiend Deck in Yu-Gi-Oh, in which case, go nuts.
So, everything kinda went to shit because of it, and not only were the shadows released into the world to attack an unsuspecting populace, this tower thing here:
Tumblr media
the Tartarus, arose. It’s basically the citadel between worlds. The earth was changed with a new “Dark Hour.” A period of time where everything freezes at Midnight.
Tumblr media
Most people don’t really notice though. Time resumes as normal when it’s over, and almost nobody really notices.
Almost.
Some people can keep moving around in this time. Mitsuru is one of them. since she felt bad about her family’s company screwing everyone over, so she decided to fix it.
And while her rapier skills are certainly good, on account that she’s in the fencing club at her school, a small sword like that isn’t exactly enough to take down a bunch of evil shadows… Wait, hang on. Do both of these franchises have Heartless ripoffs?- Moving on, Mitsuru also has various abilities that she can use.
Tumblr media
And on top of all of it, she even got a Stand Persona, named Penthesilea, which later grew into Artemisia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With Artemisia by her side, Mitsuru has a lot of powerful ice spells that she can call upon in battle. So it’s basically a Stand except they don’t have that rule of “Only a Stand can defeat another Stand” thing going for them… Huh, note to self: Have Jotaro and Mitsuru get into an argument about terminology. Also unlike Stands, Personas can be defeated, but they’ll come back after a short time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Similar to Stands, Personas also kinda reflect damage back to the user. But since it’s more linked to the personality rather than the soul or fighting spirit, it’s more mental stress if anything else.
Tumblr media
Artemesia gives Mitsuru all sorts of awesome stuff. Like ice powers that could give Elsa a run for her money. It also grants Mitsuru enhanced strength, speed, and durability. In addition, it also makes her completely immune to the cold and ice-based attacks. I’d ask “Why the fur coat?” But, as we all know, Everyone needs a fur coat (And it’s a pretty nice coat). She can also sense her surroundings via analytical clairvoyance, which makes sneaking up on her pretty hard.
But, like all great heroes, nobody really does it on their own. Mitsuru created the S.E.E.S, or the “Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad.” A group of Persona users that were basically the Teen Titans, if they had Stands instead of superpowers. And, as an added bonus, it’s an after school club, so bonus extra credit!
And you might be thinking “How would one summon a Persona?” Well, since this franchise wasn’t done ripping off Jojo (I looked it up, Stands and the Stand Arrows were introduced about three years prior to Persona 1), they decided to uh… Use the Evoker… Which… Fair warning…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I think I’ll take the Stand Arrow instead).
The idea behind the Evoker is that it evokes a strong traumatic experience to awaken a person’s Persona, similar to how Mitsuru’s first experience in summoning hers was also traumatic.
To add to the unsettling nature of this, you don’t just have it shot at you. You aim it at your face, and pull the trigger. DEFINITELY taking the Stand Arrow over that.
Anyways, with all that power, Mitsuru’s pulled off some ridiculous stuff.
Tumblr media
Here’s an added bonus: One Persona user that could outrun a bullet fired from a Magnum. So it’s reasonable to say that Mitsuru could do this too.

If that last feat wasn’t impressive enough for you, Personas can move even faster. One of them reacted to and caught an arrow within milliseconds. And since Mitsuru defeated this user and Persona in a fight.
But if you’re looking for a durability feat, then look no further, because Mitsuru once survived an explosion.
Tumblr media
This one to be exact.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is easily the longest series of images I’ve had to upload in a row. And isn’t Boomstick a Poultry Scientist?- Why’d he say “I’m a scientist now.”?
Ahem, moving on. Artemisia also once helped out in icing these creepy puppet things:
Tumblr media
Now, using the surrounding air and accounting for Nitrogen (As it makes up a good chunk of the air we breathe), we can get some calculations for this feat.
Tumblr media
The energy output, after the calculations are done, comes to around…
Tumblr media
Okay, forget Weiss supplying people with Power, Mitsuru’s where it’s at. Maybe she could slow down out polar ice caps from melting.
And after ending the Dark Hour and redeeming her family name, Mitsuru continued battling for people everywhere. One shadow at a time.
Not too shabby.
Tumblr media
The Battle Itself.
Torrian and Kristina are here for animation, Weiss will be voiced by Kara Eberle and Mitsuru will be voiced by Corey Pettit, music (Winter Sonata) by Therewolf,  and audio by Chris Kokkinos.
So, we just jump right into the middle of the fight. No explanations, no story build-up, no nothing. It’s just like RWBY Volume 4! Ha ha! … Sorry, I, I just, I had to get that in there… God, that was a garbage volume.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, with swordplay looking to be about even, both sides are basically going to be relying on their other skills for this bout. Y’know, a fencing tournament getting out of hand would have been an interesting story for this fight.
So, a bit of talking later, and the fight just picks up. And it occurs to me that they should have used this as the example fight for why the “FIGHT!” soundbite shouldn’t return. Like, c’mon guys.
Back on the fight, Weiss uses her ice powers to try to give Mitsuru the cold shoulder, but as we’re already aware, that’s not very effective.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And out comes Artemisia, which Weiss manages to parry some of the attacks, and opts to get the hell out of dodge after a quick burst of fire.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Wasp up there is then sent to fight Mitsuru’s Persona while Weiss opts to fight Mitsuru directly.
Tumblr media
But, let’s face it. The Rapier Wasp is a Bug Flying type. So Artemisia takes it down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And with Weiss distracted, Mitsuru then gives her a kick to the face. That’s the face of someone who was wondering why she was just standing around when there was someone trying to kill you right in front of you.
But Weiss isn’t a fan of being kicked in the face, so she uses her gravity glyphs to make some distance.
Tumblr media
And with that distance comes…
Tumblr media
The Arma Gigas! Let’s be real, we wanted this fight so that we could see this knight fight Artemisia. After a couple of combos where neither side seems to make any headway, Artemisia then fires some frigid projectiles towards Weiss.
Tumblr media
Her Knight, being a gentleman, takes the blow for her.
Tumblr media
Weiss charges (with added assistance from her time dilation glyphs) and manages to actually stab Mitsuru.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately for her, Mitsuru doesn’t go down that easily. And she uses Artemisia to knock them both down.
Tumblr media
Finishing blow in 5…

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Imperious Queen of Executions indeed.
Verdict + Explanation.
So, to Weiss’ credit, her versatility put up a decent fight. But she was pretty outclassed in other categories aside from speed thanks to time dilation.
Tumblr media
But with Mitsuru’s analytical clairvoyance, that speed gap gets a lot smaller. To the point that Mitsuru’s the one that can outpace Weiss. Not that it matters, Artemisia outpaces Weiss a few times over.
Tumblr media
Now sure, the time powers seem like an insta-win, right? Well, maybe that would give Weiss a win in some scenarios, but not all of them.
Since Weiss is extra reliant on Ice Dust, and her other Dusts are fairly lacking, Mitsuru didn’t really have to deal with fire at all. Especially since Weiss doesn’t have the best track record with fire (As we’ve seen from that fire geyser from before).
Tumblr media
It also doesn’t help that the explosion from earlier is pretty up there in terms of destructive power. Power that isn’t really that low for anything Weiss had to really beat it out.
Using calculation provided by Boomstick (Yes, you read that right), the calculations can be made through the height of the bridge.
Tumblr media
This puts the explosive yield to about.
Tumblr media
And this is even accounting for the fact that the person setting it off wasn’t even planning on killing Mitsuru too.
Tumblr media
Also, remember those big ice structures that each of them made?- Well, comparing them directly, Weiss’ energy output doesn’t come close. Even if one were to cut Mitsuru’s stat in half, on account that she had help for this feat, Weiss falls short. About a hundred times short to be exact.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of the day, Mitsuru had the power, skill, and durability to take Weiss down. Sure Snow White there had versatility, but at the end of it all,
Tumblr media
Overall impression.
I heard from a friend of mine (And I  read  it on the Persona Wiki) that Personas can’t really be seen by non-persona users. Whilst this doesn’t really make much of a difference since it was more exciting to see the Arma Gigas directly fighting Artemisia instead of having it flailing around while the Persona just chipped away at it, it would have been nice to have seen this acknowledged.
Also, I kinda had like… Ten jokes that I could have used for my own end quip, but I’ll just post that to my Deviantart account as a list.
Overall, the results are solid, the animation is good, and it feels well-made. Sure, Weiss’ death could have been a bit more brutal (I would have liked to have seen her shattering with the ice), but as far as underwhelming deaths go, this one wasn’t that bad.
6.9/10. It would have been higher, but we didn’t get a “Bites the Dust” reference for Boomstick’s end joke (The song, not the Stand).
Next Time…
MORTAL KOMBAT! DO do do do dodo doot do do doot do doot do do do!

By the Gods I have been wanting to use Johnny Cage for the story. And having another Nintendo rep is always a plus. This… Is gonna be fun!

I'vee written this from episode 29 through 32-ish and I want to dump a quick review of what I think of the characters at this point. Just for the lols for when I finish the show and I find I was completely wrong on most of them! Im using a compiled list on Google drive for the characters, so following that order they are split into clans.
Here we go.
Wei Wuxian. I really liked him at the beginning (what a funny cinnamon roll) but ever since he went missing into Burial Grounds I'm not sure...I see his points -especially when he criticised the Jins and stood up for the Wens- , but I can't believe he doesn't see he's being corrupted. Like come on. Just let the others help you for once, this is just looking for troubles. On thin ice. Used to be 9/10
Lan Zhan. Didn't like him much - or at all - when he was introduced in Clouds Recessess. I thought he was a stick in the mud and I wasn't too fond of him. He's missing for good chunks of the story. As my opinion of WWX deteriorated, I like him more or more because he's the one making sense out of the two, this gets him a passing score, even if barely. 6/10
Jian Cheng. He was my sweet sweet baby. Unparalleled sibling energy with WWX, cute angsty ship with Wen Qing, likable personality, the drama with the core. He had it all. But at some point...I don't know man. I just don't agree with anything he says anymore, and he's just becoming more and more sulky about his inferiority complex as a Clan Leader. I feel that, not counting the 16 years later part I didn't watch yet, he should get the title of co-protagonist rather than Wangji, since he's much more involved in the plot. Used to be a 8/10, still pending.
Jian Yanli. I like her. I feel like a dumb ass for getting attached and only remembering halfway through the flashback part that she's going to die, as per the first few episodes. I'm hating every second of it, like why killing her when the show is full of unpleasant people? Poor Li. Also the ship is a big plus. This kind of drama is just *chef kiss*- (and edit: after I watched the last episode of the night and she died...it's fine I'm not crying.) 8/10
Jian Fengmian. I don't really care much about him one way or the other. A little whipped by his wife - not that it is bad per se, but she really is bad so - , didn't particularly like that he favored WWX over JC. I think he could have been better, but he was pretty decent. 7/10
Madame Yu. No. 1/10
Lan Zichen. Possibly the last dude I 100% trust in this show not to let me down - as long as he isn't influenced too much by Mang Yao. I like him in a sort of uninvolved way. Don't look forward to see him on screen, don't wonder where he is or what he is doing, pleased when he shows up and does his sensible thing and then disappears again. Kept me on my toes after he escaped from Could Recesses though, but really took him so long to come back I almost forgot I was worrying about him. Way to go Zichen. 7/10
Lan Qiren. He's alright? I don't care much. Pretty dope when he took a stand against the Wans when they attacked, but I find him to be a little too much sometimes. 6/10
The files lists some juniors I haven't seen yet. They seem baby? Cute. I assume they are going to be so-and-so 's children, like in a Boruto way. Looking forward to see all the characters paired up.
Jin Guangshan. I thought he was annoying because he had a bunch of illegitimate children that I lost track of but then he became even more annoying with his very transparent power grab -and the fact that no one seems concerned is baffling to me. Overall I think I would have pretty much liked it more if the son Zixuan was clan leader and we didn't have to deal with this piece of work. 2/10
Jin Zixuan. As I was writing this post this man went through all sort of things. From proposing to having a child to being murdered. Honestly, we didn't start off the right foot when he booked the inn where WWX & co wanted to stay. I kept wishing he would kick the bucket because I hated how he treated Yanli, and I thought he would wind up to be a minor villain...while it seems he was the only normal member of his family. I feel bad for hating him so much. 8/10.
Jin Ling. Biggest reason why I thought his dad would be a bad guy. For the first part, I thought the Jins would be the villains because of him, and not the Wens, though in the end I wasn't that off the mark in a sense. He was just a cartoonish villain. I have yet to see him again after the flashback part, but his first introduction was awful. 3/10
Meng Yao. So the thing is, I was really partial towards him at the beginning. The bit at Cloud Recesses? The part with the Nie family? Perfect. Felt so bad for how everyone treated him. I started to excuse what he was doing like "it's ok, the head of guards is a dick to him" "it's okay he was double crossing the bad guys eheh" "it's ok he is...murdering civilians?" But seriously he let me down so hard. Also his face looks so different I didn't recognise him at first. At the beginning I thought I could maybe have a cute ship with Zichen but to tell the truth I don't want Meng Yao anywhere near him now. I seriously thought he wanted to murder infant Jin Ling at some point there to climb the ladder and become Clan Leader. I'm sure he set WWX up and schemed to murder the last dregs of the Wens and Zixuan. 1/10
Jin Zixun. Pretty inconsequential. Could have done with him imo. I'm only including him because I love when WWX goes "I don't even know who you are" like three times and that's a mood because where the heck did he come from.
Mo Xuanyu. I don't get why he looks like WWX. I sort understand why they used the same actor but story-wise I don't understand. How can random people look at him and recognise WWX? Also, he is kinda stupid for giving up his life to be possessed by a bad guy to get revenge but whatever floats your boat I guess. 4/10
Nie Mingjue. I don't care much for him. He bullies his brother too much and his short temper is annoying even though often justified. I thought I could kinda always rely on him to be the voice of reason despite not liking his character but then he said the stupidest thing in the show "I'm not sitting on that chair" and left it to the Jin Sect Leader...look how that worked out. Love how he basically disappeared after that, I think because he knew he screwed up big time (jk). 6/10
Nie Huaisang. Funny. Definetly underused. I hoped he would be part of the main gang. When he stopped showing up, the show took a terrible turn in its atmosphere. Please come back as sect leader in the 16 years later part (I mean, who else is there? I hope he didn't die in the meantime because he isn't showing up in this final battle). I wish I saw him swing a sword at the least once but alas. 7/10.
Wen Ruohan. I mean. What can you expect. Typical bad guy sitting on top of a lava pond that controls zombies. Wasn't expecting much development from his character and he surely didn't deliver. A good 2-dimensional bad guy to kill without thinking too hard about anything I guess. Awful person tho. 4/10
Wen Xu. I didn't even realize there were two young Wens. I thought he was his brother at first, but without the spice. Literally why was he there. 4/10
Wen Chao. He sucks, don't get me wrong. But watching him coming up with all sorts of awful things is very entertaining. 2/10 as a person, 9/10 as a villain. Cheered when he died.
Wen Lingjiao. Same as her lover, but more annoying because she got on my nerves sometimes. I was so glad when she got it. The (1) good thing coming out of WWX's corruption. 2/10
Wen Zhuliu. I really want to know what drove him to serve Chao with such devotion. His technique was kinda cool. I think he would have been an okay guy but sadly he associated with Chao. 4/10
Wen Ning. I thought "No, poor Ning is dead" ten times already and still counting. Please WWX just let him die. He is/was just a sweetheart and I loved him with all my heart. His death and everything that came after it filled me with rage, when i thought he died I was brokenhearted, and the fact that he gets blamed for killing people when it's arguably WWX's fault is so unfair. We didn't deserve Wen Ning. I don't really like that he became the Ghost General tho. 10/10
Wen Qing. I liked her. Same as her brother, how their story ended up upset me. I hoped they would get to live peacefully in their commune in the woods. That part of the story was *chef kiss*. The romance with JC lacked closure imo but I understand that they both had things going on and they would need to stretch the story too much to get the together or at the least talk about their feelings. I hoped till the end she wouldn't be killed because I knew Ning came bad 16 years later, so they must have avoided being executed, but more realistically I guess he's just a zombie and she's just dead. I lowkey shipped her with WWX though I feel this would be an unpopular opinion in the fandom -when I learned WWX has a different endgame ship I was kinda bummed sorry. I thought we would get a sort of love triangles with JC, I can't say I'm disappointed because it would have been a terrible plot. They really have a good platonic relationship, I loved to see them build that village. 8/10
Song Lan/ Xiao Xingchen / Xue Yang. What's the deal with them? They seemed to be set up to come back but only Song Lan does a passing appearance. Are they coming back? What was their significance? So weird because the untamed usually doesn't introduce characters to just drop them when the episode's over.

Top 13 general artist's lyrics. Top movie/tv show quotes. im not gonna set a number for that cuz we'd be here forever
So, this incredibly weird human being right here got distracted and didn't read the entire question. Lmao
I thought you set the bar up at 13 quotes.
It took me forever. But that's okay, given how things are messy right now, this was a good distraction. Made me feel better. 😁
Here it goes.
My top 13 general lyrics - No particular order
1. You promised the world and I fell for it.
I put you first and you adored it.
Set fires to my forests and you let it burn.
Sang off key in my chorus cause it wasn't yours.
[...]
We'd always go into blindly.
I needed to lose you find me.
This dancing was killing me softly.
I needed to hate you to love me.
Lose you to love me - Selena Gomes

When everything is meant to be broken, I just want you to know who I am.
Iris - Goo Goo Dolls.
3. It's not always rainbows and butterflies
It's compromise that moves us along.
She will be loved - Maroon 5

Caught up in circles. Confusion is nothing new
Flashback, warm nights. Almost left behind.

Time after time.
If you fall, I'll catch you. I'll be waiting.
Time after time.

5. Every now and then I get a little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by.

Cause when you never see the light, it's hard to know which one of us is caving.
Stay - Rihanna
7. I don't care if hurts. I wanna have control.
I want a perfect body. I want a perfect soul.
I want you notice when I'm not around.
You're so fucking special.
I wish I was special.
But I'm a creep. I'm a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?
I don't belong here.
Creep - Radiohead
8. I remember the day you told me you were leaving.
I remember the make-up running down your face.
And the dreams you left behind you didn't need them.
Like every single wish we ever made.
I wish that I could wake up with amnesia and forget about the stupid little things.
Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you and the memories I never can escape.
Cause I'm not fine at all.
Amnesia - 5 seconds of summer.
8. We are searchlights, we can see in the dark.
We are rockets, pointed up at the stars.
We are billions of beautiful hearts.
What about us - Pink

Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?
This is my fight song
Take back my life song

Starting right now I'll be strong
I'll play my fight song
And I don't really care if nobody else believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me.
Fight song - Rachel Platten
10. Forget what I said. It's not what I meant.
And I can't take it back, I can't unpack the baggage you left.

Stuck in reverse
[...]
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you.
Fix you - Coldplay
My top 13 quotes - No particular order
1. Sometimes family is more than just the people under your roof. They’re people who jump in, head first, who aren’t afraid to make fools of themselves to help you, who don’t hide their faces in shame if you fall down.
Alison Hendrix - Orphan Black
Bonus to this one on this show:
Sarah: Whose side are you on, S?

"So, I’ve been thinking about this whole being happy thing, and I feel like people get lost when they think of happiness as a destination. We’re always thinking that someday we’ll be happy; we’ll get that car or that job or that person in our lives that will fix everything. But happiness is a mood, and it’s a condition, not a destination. It’s like being tired or hungry, it’s not permanent. It comes and goes, and that’s okay. And I feel like if people thought of it that way, they’d find happiness more often."

Alex Denvers
6. Just because life isn’t what you want it to be right now, doesn’t mean you should tear it down.

Bonus:
People are gonna tell you who you are your whole life. You just gotta punch back and say, "No, this is who I am". You want people to look at you differently? Make them! Background :
His father was a solider, a man who through brute strength and cunning plowed his way through the enemies and ranks. Earning himself a high rank and honorable discharge. A boon was given to him for his years of service, land and the title of magistrate for a county. Settling into the valley he built himself a large manor into the county seat of Sparrow’s Roost.  From there he began to gain power and with it greed began to grow.
His manor began to grow and with it the amount of servants needed for the upkeep of it. One of these servants was a young wood elf, who when the man laid eyes on her fell deeply in lust and wanted her for his own. However, all the man wants is fun. When the servant girl winds up pregnant, fear settles in the man’s heart. Not only will there be child who might usurp his role. That child will be an abomination. A half-elf. So he did what any power hungry man did. Send the woman off away from his lands to the unknown territories of the forest.
The woods though. Was the young woman’s home as a child and her village lays deep in the canopies. Accompanied by two travelers, the woman reached her home village where in due time she would give birth to a son.
On the day of his birth a mythical creature known as the Ki-Rin flew over the village. Flagged down by the village chief, the Ki-Rin blessed the day with lights and fire. Then spoke a prophacy. “When the child can walk and say his first word, take him to his father for their meeting will cause him to help the world.”
Moons passed and finally the auspicious day arrive, near the first birthday of the child on a warm spring day. A plum tree blooms early and from it the child walked to the tree and said “flowers” The village rejoiced and soon enough following the words of the Ki-Rin had the woman, the child, and a band of adventurers take them back to Sparrow’s Roost.
Their arrival fell upon the day of a festival, lights were hung and food was prepared on the side of nearly every open road in the city. Their task was of utmost importance, not even allowing the child a snack or gift. With hurried footsteps the group made their way towards the manor. Right into the middle of a grand banquet.
The man roared in anger at the uninvited guests, soon recognizing the woman before him and the toddler next to her. “Guards! Detain these scum at once!” He roared, scaring the child who began to cry in the middle of the hall. “YANG WAN!” The woman cried out, “This boy is your son!” This revelation caused all heads to turn towards the man. Who stood up and grabbed his giant spiked club.
“Lies! This woman tell lies! I would not father an abomination like this! You dare accuse me of having a monstrosity like this as my son? Slander! Dishonor! Men. Separate this filth with the abomination. Take her to the cell, kill the men, and feed the child to the wolves in the mountains above.”
Doors slammed open then shut, as guards rushed into the feast, screams and cries filled the room as halberds were thrusted and arrows shot. The adventurers with the fell one by one. Another guard grabbed the child and kicked the woman to the floor. Before she could be detained however on the adventurers grabbed her and ran out the manor into the crowds below and into darkness. Soldier followed suit after them. The child still crying was thrown into a bag carried out of the city.
The climb was tiresome but the guards did not want to anger their magistrate. As they reached a high cliff, the crying caught the attention of an elderly dwarf, his simple robes and beads showed that he was a monk. Possibly the monks who live in the nearby areas from a temple in the clouds. He asked what they were doing, to which the duo replied
“Taking out the trash, this child lost its mother and nobody will tend to a half elf like him. He will starve in the streets, we’re doing him a favor. Sending him back to whatever trees these elves consider a god.”
They laughed as the one holding the sack swung it backwards to build momentum in his throw. Before he could release, the monk in two quick strikes of his monk spade knocking the two unconscious. Taking the child of the sack, the monk picked him up and believing he was an orphan took in the child. Climbing the mountain, then another as they reached a high peak past the clouds. A walled fortress looms in their grasp as a waterfall break a hole through it.
The dwarf named the child Canglong, and gives him the family name of the temple Liu. There he would be raised alongside many other boys in the practice of hard work and servitude. He lived a good life in here. It was simple but good. He had meals every day, they taught him not only martial arts, but to read and write, and find beauty in life.
There comes a time though, when an initiate becomes of age they may leave the monastery or stay to become a master. To become a master however, requires a trial.  Which Canglong begged his teacher and adoptive father for. To which the monk denied, telling him it is not up to him to find his trial but to find it himself.
Angry at this, Canglong along with two other initiates decided that they may test fate by seeing the entire world. The entire world they assumed could be seen at the very peak of the mountain they lived in. The journey was short but perilous as ice and wind become enemies of anybody who dare to climb it. A windstorm stopped them as they took shelter in a cave a voice called out to them. Each word vile and dark. Taunting the teenagers as echoes. The boys kept their ground until the voice showed its face, tall and blue. Teeth and claws black. An eerie grin fell upon its face as it ran, claws extended to swipe at the three boys.
Before the could hit, a light filled the dark cave and instead of the Oni, was a Ki-Rin in its place. Shining a warm light on the monks. Its voice boomed and turned its gaze towards Canglong.
“You boy. You were the one whose birth I blessed. It seems my words went another direction eh? You still have a life to live but you cannot find your peace until you meet the man who is your father. Go past this mountain and you will fidn a village. That is your first step. Now go, do not take any longer. ”
It spoke in the mind of everybody near it, and as quick as it came it left. Gliding through the air and disappearing. The three boys looked at each and fell to the ground. their bodies weak. Canglong was the first to speak. “We….I’m….Uh…..This is it! This was the sign I was looking fo-”
“LIU CANGLONG! LIU YU, SHOU LING!”
Rapid footsteps echoed in the cave. Following the familiar guttural yell of a certain dwarf.  Head turned to see the dwarf and five other monks from the Monastery. Their faces stern but yet relieved. One of them stepped forward and asked if that really was a Ki-Rin. To which Canglong grinned widely and bounded to his master.
“Master! I’m sure the Ki-Rin spoke to you too! Did you hear it! It said my destiny would be down below! I have to go now!”
The dwarf, reluctant of letting Canglong go knew he had to. The world has spoken. Agreeing. After first punishing the three for a night. The monks gave Canglong a pack, and a scroll. Proof that he was finally allowed off the mountain.
His adventure truly began, as he descended he noticed a plume of smoke, the hero in him quickened his pace stopping at a village in flames. Armed men began chasing and killing innocent villagers. Canglong couldn’t have any of this pushed in.  Taking out a small number of soldiers alongside a woman with clad in armor. With the armed men driven out, Canglong was thanked by the villagers and the woman. Who questioned just exactly who he is. To which he prompty asnwered.
“A monk, truly? I thought your people were only of legend. Warriors who fight with only their bare fist. Now i have seen it up close. Forgive me Canglong. I am Zhu Ji, and this is my brother Zhu Dong, and our allies Ling Yun, Zhao Yi, and Lu Jiao.”
She said, pointing at a man who wore a similar sigil on his robes to her, a halfling wielding a hammer that relative to his body size was in fact large, a woman in leather armor and staff, and a masked individual with his bow still pulled and an arrow ready to fire.
“We’re part of the lord’s army who came to investigate this land, however most of our men died upon entering this valley and now we see why. A lone man stands in this valley and his fists are iron. We have been charged with arresting him, however he has an army and we do not. He controls the only way in and out of this valley and we have no way of calling for help. But! Lo and behold! We seem to have another join us. Perhaps you will help us in our endeavors?”
Canglong was taken aback, he found himself in the middle of a war. Was this all part of his fate? He believed so and he knew he had to. To protect the weak was a tenant that he believed in his whole life. He couldn’t say no to this. So he agreed to this.
Later that night, while resting at an inn the team had a conference. Trying to figure out exactly how to get help. The terrain of this valley is almost like a natural fortification, this Canglong responded. “Why not ask the people? They know this area best yeah? We could maybe form a militia, train them in both steel and fists.” Through out the night and the following days the team argued, until finally agreeing that this would be their best bet.
This decided they spread the word, in quiet whispers and hidden words. Gathering people under the nose of the tyrant. Weeks past and soon months until their army was ready. Ready to win the freedom of their land after so long.
On a cold winter’s day, snow fell, but rising was the passion and courage fo the people. Marching towards Sparrow’s Roost. Greeting them was the magistrate personal army. Two forces, one under a purple banner with the face of a demon. The other, full of song and passion, and a need for freedom.
The battle raged on for days. Casualties on both side, however when things looked at their worse. A screech filled the skies, as a number of giant eagles filled the air. In the center of them, was a familiar golden being.
“KI-RIN!”
Canglong cried out from atop a horse. The tide of battle changed as many animals joined the fray. Eagles, bears, tigers, and from the looks of it. A……
“IS THAT A DRAGON?”
Canglong screamed again as it let loose a blast of chilly air. Freezing many soldiers in their place. A roar from the villagers rang out as the tides turned. Pitchforks, scythes, spears, and axes were raised as they gained a second wind.
The battle soon taking them to the city itself. Over taking the manor till a battle between Yang Wan, two hobgoblins, a three men faced the Lord’s Legion ft Canglong. In the end though. They were victorious and with the tyrant tied up. The Ki-Rin spoke again.
“Canglong, family must hold each other responsible. Meet your father and decide his fate.” The revelation confused Canglong. For a while he was quiet. However he knew he could not harm his father. Turning towards the legion he asked them.
“Take my father to the lord, Imprison him so he may began to atone for his crimes.” The legion invited Canglong to officially join them in the capital but he refused, arms crossed.
“It seems my trial has not yet ended, He is the man who fathered me and I must as it is my duty, to help in atoning his crimes. I think I might travel the world and see what I can learn and who I can help.”
Though the legion protested, they reluctantly agreed. Offering him a position should he ever want to return. Given a token of the legion the team and Canglong parted ways. Both leaving the valley but going on separate roads.
