sirius has a mixtape with “Sirius’ cool hardcore punk-rock” written on it, with a black skull drawn next to the title in Sharpie
There is not a single hardcore punk-rock song on that tape, it’s all songs that remind him of Remus. From Remus’ favourite songs, to love songs that make him think of Remus, to the song he thinks should be their first dance. It’s sappy and adorable and Sirius thinks he’s being all cool and mysterious but Remus is absolutely aware of it
“Sometimes at playtime, I look up to the sky. And if I can see the sun, then, I think about the fact that we can both see the sun. So, even though we’re not actually in the same place and we’re not actually together, we kind of are in a way, you know? Like, we’re both underneath the same sky, so... we’re kind of together.” —Sophie, to Calum.
Can someone out there write a Jegulus competitive ballroom dance AU? I've been watching those videos where there are 2 people at an improve competition and they've never met before let alone danced together and then they end up having immaculate chemistry and decide to be each other's dance partners.
I would write it myself, but i know absolutely nothing about dancing. Competitive or otherwise. But I would kill to read this.
In the meantime, I guess I'll just have to reread 'You Signed Up For This' by Sollmussa because honestly, the dancing in that one wrecked me beyond repair.

Okay, I thought was done, but I'm so not. Here are some things about the AU that I desperately crave:
Latino James. Dance is actually his 3rd language and he's fluent.
Effie and Monty met each other in a dance class when they were teens, and then they were paired up with each other by the teacher. They had a bit of a rivalry at first, but then as they started dancing together more and more, they fell in love. The two ended up becoming very famous competitive ballroom dancers and retired when they had James. They never stopped dancing though and they engrained that love into James
Former Ballet dancer Regulus. He stopped dancing ballet after he finally left his family home to live with Sirius. He still loves dancing, but ballet has too many bad memories attached to it and he lost his love for it.
Sirius introduced him to this type of competitive dance via Effie's class. He still doesn't meet James until he's actually at a competition though. ^.^
Bonus:
Pandora and Evan did ballet with Regulus and Sirius when they were kids but left to do other types of dance before they were even teenagers.
Evan and Panda used to dance competitively together until Regulus needed a partner for his first competition and Pandora volunteered. Evan was cool with it, because it's Regulus, but there's a tiny part of him that's just like, 'Well who am I going to dance with then?'
Enter Barty, someone who is known among other dancers for being notorious for scaring away his dance partners.
Holy shit guys I take it all back. I need to write this. Forget the fact that I don't know anything, ja boi is gonna have to fucking learn.
Stay tuned because I might have some brainrot about this one as things progress~
The teacher wove in and out of the identically dressed boys, lined up at the barre. She stopped to fix Remus’s turnout as usual. Sirius couldn’t help but roll his eyes. Some people hadn’t learned technique when they were three and four years old, barely able to reach the barre like him. His mother wouldn’t have stood for anything else.
She nodded approvingly at Sirius as he went through the combination on the other side.
Later, they were rehearsing for their showcase. He and Remus has a pas de deux together in the middle. He couldn’t help but stare at Remus’s long lines and sharp pointed foot. What Remus lacke din technique, he made up in grace on the floor. Even Sirius could see that. Clearly Remus loved ballet and had worked hard to get where he was.
He’d heard his cousins whisper derisively about “scholarship students” and turning up their noses at anyone not from their insular circle. But Remus was a breath of fresh air. He didn’t care about any of that. He just wanted to dance.
And dance he did. Sirius tried not to be too distracted watching Remus as he danced his own part. Remus brought out the playfulness in his dancing that he’d thought he’d lost as a little kid. With Remus as his dance partner, he could rediscover the whimsy he was afraid he’d lost.
When they were done, they bowed to each other and ran off, making room for the next pair.
“Nice job,” Sirius said, bumping Remus’s fist.
“I didn’t land that double pirouette like I wanted,” Remus said.
“Just say ‘thank you,’” Sirius said.
Remus’s face softened and he looked away shyly. “Thank you.”
“I do not want to go to a disco, Marlene. Sequins and white flares are not my thing.” Remus grumbled at his best friend as she dug around in his wardrobe for appropriate clothing.
“This will have to do,” She muttered, irritated as she pulled out a sky-blue shirt. It was also Remus’s best shirt. Most of his wardrobe was made up of soft geometric jumpers, also known as ‘Hey, my granddad has that same jumper’ jumpers. “Put it on, and these,” Marlene ordered as she tossed the shirt and a pair of black jeans at him. Reluctantly, he sloped off to the bathroom to change. When he came back out, Marlene appraised him and clucked her tongue as she undid his top button. “Come on, let’s get going before all the pretty girls are taken.”
“You know that’s only a problem for you, right?” Remus rolled his eyes at her but followed her out of his flat.
The second he stepped into the disco, he knew he’d made a mistake. Marlene, sensing his imminent flight, shoved him in the small of his back out onto the light-up dance floor. It was hot, sweaty and loud. Remus wanted to go home and curl up with a good book.
“Stay here,” Marlene shouted into his ear. “I’ll get us some drinks.” She left him alone. He closed his eyes and tried not to freak out at the unknown bodies that kept knocking into him. Why on earth had he agreed to this?
He opened his eyes again, and they fell on a mass of black curly hair swirling around the prettiest man he’d ever seen. Remus groaned when he saw what he was wearing. A brightly sequinned shirt, unbuttoned to just above his waist, showing off milky skin and a scattering of tattoos. He let his eyes trail lower. Of course, he was wearing skin-tight white flares.
The man caught him staring and shimmied his hips towards him. Remus looked at the crowd on either side of him because there was no way this gorgeous man was looking at him.
Warm hands wrapped themselves around his hips and started encouraging him to sway. His eyes snapped back to the front and straight into the steel-grey eyes of the man from the middle of the dance floor.
the way i can picture the marauders dancing in the dorm to queen (don’t stop me now if you will). i’m talking breakfast club dancing. sirius and james would start it, bouncing around the beds, screaming the lyrics like the fanboys they are and peter would follow suit u already know. he’d pretend he wasn’t embarrassed and join in, and he’d realize he liked it. even if he did think it was a little odd, he was having fun with his friends!! who cares. remus would take persuading at first. he’d roll his eyes and pretend to be enveloped in his book but sirius and james would be all come on moony 🥺 the marauders need you 🥺 and he’d give in yk cuz who’s he to refuse his friend. remus would be awkward and tall and gangly but he’d end up killing that shit. they’d be all so happy together 😭😭😭😭 and they don’t even know what’s coming!!
