During King's Cage, April 321

I shone like the night sky, illuminated my moonlight. Displaying beauty was one of the skills we Havens excelled at. Hiding was the other one, and I'd been asked - often forced - to make use the second one more frequently that I could remember. Like the shadows we were named for, I lurked in the darkness, watching and listening, only allowed to show myself once I gathered enough intel to our advantage.

Sometimes I wished I was more than a courtier and a spy, skilled in a trade instead of valued for my loyalty alone. I didn’t even know which talent I desired, as I already did what I was best at. It was more like I resented my foreordained fate itself.

We Havens weren't kings and queens, we were their loyal knives and spies.

But that was my fate no longer, and the court and my family would see it once I became the "princess" of House Samos.

I rose, hands brushing over my black dress, the fabric tight but elastic and flattering every one of my curves. Delicate lace lay on my cleavage, neck, back and arms and its web went down over my body where sparkling sequins, beads and gems were sewed on it. If I wanted to, I would’ve been able to make myself shine like a torch of magnesium, but today, the only fire-like part of me was my hair, copper waves one half pinned up, one half falling on my shoulders.

I knew I was a sight of awe, but my whole family was. In a way, we used both invisibility and beauty to remain inconspicuous. So people may forgot to see the person beneath a lovely face.

Evangeline wasn’t one of those and I could’ve loved her for that alone. In turn, I’d fallen for the girl with the façade of fangs and steel the first time I’d met her. She’d always been a girl who believed in herself and those she loved, a girl who didn’t give up until her iron will received its due. I wished I had her steel resolve, her incontestable presence. I could call myself mercurial at best, the ever-shifting, poisonous vapour around her shining blade. I’d be forever hers, if only it didn’t mean to chain myself to another High House and its own spiry customs and antics.

As when Lady Larentia urged me to put in earrings with diamonds and emeralds to display our coming relation. “Green becomes you so well, pet,” she said. “It’s the privilege of – soon-to-be -  married women to mix their colours.” I just avoided her from pinning a dead butterfly in my hair as well. Or like the way neither Eve nor Ptolemus could withstand fixing rivets and spikes on my clothing, like those they wore on their own. It was like they claimed me as a part of them.

I loved both of them fiercely, but sometimes they started to cage me in. Wasn’t it enough that I was marrying Tolly for Eve’s sake? I was aware none of us would ever be free of the ties to our families, our duties, yet I would prefer not to offer anyone too much power over me. My second sister Mariella died for house politics, and my oldest sister Lizanne, the heir, had to make up for her coup in the meantime, remaining demure next to her Gliacon husband, trapped between keeping up appearances and clandestinely supporting rebel houses.

Whereas I was the bride of Ptolemus Samos, a match no one had dared hope for, and I got closer to the throne than any other Haven in the last decades.

Yet I was still told to present myself as the girl pretty to look at and maybe my family was right – there was safety in being inconspicuous.

I met Tolly in his room. I reached out with my hand, beckoning him to rise and come with me but he hesitated, seemingly needing more time in front of the mirror than I did. I couldn’t help cracking a smile. “Are you dressing yourself up for Lady Wren?”

He pretended not to have heard, yet it was obvious in the way he chewed on his lip and greyness crept up in his pale cheeks. He rushed to get up at my tease nonetheless, taking my hand and spinning me around as if in a dance. “Nothing escapes you, dear Elane.”

I twisted once more, then pulling myself away with a flip of my hair. “I know what I’m doing.”

“Well, then tell me,” he asked, “which armor pattern is better? Laurels, feathers or serpent scales?” The sheet of metal clothing him rippled and changed at his words, the scales moving as if not made of metals, but like leaves caught in a breeze.

“You’re seriously like a man-child,” I chided him. He laughed.

“Come on, Elane, you like the Samos’ artistic skills too.”

“Umm …” He wasn’t wrong. Many Havens had a penchant for the arts.

He still chuckled and his hand touched the lace on the small of my back. “You look radiant tonight, of course.”

“Thank you. And I think you should go for the laurels,” I decided.

He nodded. “I have an advice for you as well.”

I raised an eyebrow. Tolly pulled me closer, his black eyes boring into mine. Yet the corners of his mouth twitched. “Make Eve happy,” he whispered.

I grinned. “That’s all I desire.”

I couldn’t find Eve at the party after our entry. Of course, she was no longer the center of attention, with Princess Iris having replaced her as the future queen of Norta. Iris already ruled the court, depicting the magnanimous queen better than Eve ever would have. As she was a born royal, I assumed she knew how to deal with noble fangs as well. King Maven was a different task, and I was glad Eve was rid of him. Yet I continued to hope their days were numbered, if only for Mariella.

Usually I enjoyed the spoils of this kind of parties well enough, but as I danced with Tolly and his numerous friends, I couldn’t stop myself from searching for my love, just like my betrothed’s eyes always roamed in the direction of Lady Wren who avoided him in public, if not in private.

I’d been in the ballroom for more than an hour before I saw Eve again as she intercepted a waitress. I left my current partner Logan at the earliest chance and stalked after Eve. I knew she was aware that I was following her but she didn’t stop. She walked on, through the gathered nobles and crossing several rooms of the party before we found ourselves in a long gallery.

“Eve,” I called, “what.”

I could’ve sworn she giggled. She turned, balancing a drink in her hand as lime- and moonlight fell in through the huge windows to her right and was reflected on her silver hair and intricate metal dress.

“I’m too sober for that,” she said. “I need more of this,” she raised her glass – “before I get back in there.”

I closed the distance between us. Smiling, I took the glass from her and drank a sip. Gin Tonic. “I think the same goes for me,” I said. “It was too boring without you. Even dancing was no fun.”

“Oh, I’m a marvellous dancer, Elane, and you know it.” She played with a loose tress of my hair, took back her drink and treated herself a mouthful.

“Hey,” I protested, “don’t drink so much booze.”

She blinked in surprise as I cupped her head in my hands. “Wouldn’t you rather drink in me?”

She kissed me instead of answering and guided me to the window seat. “I do already,” she muttered. “Seeing you dressed in moonlight enraptures me more than any intoxicant.”

“I live up to my reputation,” I whispered. “So you can chase me like starlight.”

“Until the end of my life,” she promised.

Thus we danced alone in the gallery, with only the night itself our witness.

REALISTIC FINAL PREDICTIONS FOR 7B!

Concrete answers will not come weekly. Instead we will get little teasers to the endgame in the final 9 episodes, but these teasers won’t make sense until (we do some theorising and) we see the series finale. Nonetheless, the final 9 episodes will be entertaining as hell even without concrete answers until the 10th episode. 

I don’t whole heartedly believe the finale will be as satisfying as everyone says. “I didn’t even know it was possible” said Ashley, and Keegan said it’ll put the show down in TV history. I’m not being negative, I’m being realistic. I really do think it’ll be a solid series finale which answers all of the post time-jump questions, don’t get me wrong. But I definitely think everyone's comments as to the degree of satisfaction are a bit too extreme. 

We will not get any answers regarding pre time-jump, other than why Sara Harvey was Black Widow and Red Coat. Halloween train, who was in Jason’s house, why was there blood in Jason’s trash, who was the blonde with Mona watching Hanna in 5A, Garret saying he knows who took Ali’s body, etc - these will not be answered. Don’t forget, we only get answers to “everything we (the writers) could REMEMBER”. 

AD will be either Bethany Young, Spencer’s twin, Melissa Hastings, Alison DiLaurentis or another one of Mary’s secret children.

AD has not been pulling the strings since season 1. After 5 years of peace, they became A only because Charlotte was killed.

AD’s helpers will be Jenna, Noel and Wren.

The letters A and D are Uber A’s initials: A_____  Drake/DiLaurentis or the REAL Alison DiLaurentis (this could be the big twist that Ashely “never thought was possible”). 

AD’s motive will be as simple as avenging Charlotte’s death. AD thinks the girls voted to have Charlotte released from the hospital, just so that they can kill her. I’ve written (and seen) theories with far greater and complex motives, but I’m being realistic. PLL always focuses on the ‘who’, and never on the ‘why’. I’m not expecting much on the motive, at all.

AD will die.

Jessica killed Mary in 4x24 and who we are seeing now is Jessica pretending to be Mary.

I will not be shocked if Charlotte is alive.

But if Charlotte is dead, her killer will be either AD themselves, Melissa, Mona, Jessica or Spencer’s twin.

Melissa was being framed as Charlotte’s killer in 6B. She was sending the emoji texts to find someone else to take her spot. 

Charlotte was lying during her reveal in 6x10. She dramatised her story so that the girls will feel bad for her and tell the judge in 5 years that they’re not afraid of her. Charlotte pushed Marion, not Bethany. 

They will not clear the plot holes as to why Charlotte needed a visitor’s pass to see Mona and how she was prom queen if she was locked in Radley.

Wren might be Archer’s brother/cousin. 

Wren might be related to Bethany.

Wren was the British person speaking to Mary on the phone in 7x01. It wasn’t Archer as Archer was rejecting Mary’s calls for 2 days.

AD’s board game of Rosewood will take them to a different place each episode, culminating in the church, where the AD revelation will take place.

Mona will die in a heroic act to save the girls from the game that she started.

Emily’s eggs are inside Alison which we saw AD plan at the end of 7x02.

Noel killed Sara Harvey.

Noel helped Sara in the dollhouse because he owed something to Charlotte - he did push the girl down the stairs at that party, but he blamed Charlotte for it and so she was kicked out of college for something Noel did.

The girls will live happily ever after and be the best of friends. However, they will each go their separate ways and leave Rosewood - they tried and succeeded for 5 years but then were compelled back to this twisted town. At the end of the finale, they will finally be free to leave.

Ezria, Haleb, Spoby and Emison will be endgame. 

Alison’s final line (the one that was so incredibly hard for Sasha to say) will be either “that’s immortality my darlings” or “friends share secrets. That’s what keeps us close.” 

“He” in “he's coming for you” will be Archer. They made a point of it in 7A that AD knows what the girls did, so AD will make it look like Archer is alive and coming for revenge (but he's not). 

AD shot Spencer, not Jenna.

Archer took on the alias Elliot Rollins so that he can flee the country and be with Charlotte. Hence the cash and passports too.

We will find out why Sara was Red Coat and Black Widow. I’m not even going to take a guess. I can’t stand Sara.

Melissa knows that Spencer is a Drake and she, along with Veronica and Peter, has been trying to hide this from her this whole time. “I’ve been protecting you since it started. Since BEFORE IT STARTED”. 

Spencer and Marco will have a lot of (boring) filler time until an event happens that pulls Spoby back.

Ezra will choose Aria over Nicole, obviously.

Emison’s baby will draw them to each other and the commitment it takes will push Paige away.

Haleb are already in a good state now and I think it’ll stay smooth for the final 10 for them. They get to be on good terms a bit longer than other ships because Haleb fans had to sit through Spaleb; this is their reward.

The finale will feature an Ezria and Haleb wedding.

Spoby will elope.  That’s all I expect! To summarise: weekly TEASERS to the endgame, but it won’t make sense until the finale. They will not answer many things from pre-time jump other than why Sara helped Charlotte and why Noel was in the dollhouse. The finale will be satisfying, but it won’t go down in TV history. If this post came across negative - I was being realistic instead. I genuinely think these final 10 episodes will be spectacular. But again, not TV-history-worthy. Calm down, Keegan!

Rey’s Mother 2.0

For a long time before The Force Awakens came out I thought that Rey (known then as Kira) was Han & Leia’s.  I even thought she was the twin sister to Ben (known then only as Kylo), and I thought they were resurrecting Jaina & Jacen as Kira & Kylo. 

The theory took hits with the news that Kira wasn’t Kira and Kylo wasn’t Kylo, and when I saw all the Luke and Anakin parallels in the teasers/trailers I really started to waver.  Eventually, especially after reading the Original Rey Skywalker Conspiracy, I became a believer that Rey was Luke’s daughter.  That opened up the real mystery: who is her mother?

Before TFA was released I did a quick rundown of who I thought she could be, on the assumption that she would be introduced and set up years before the reveal.  This allows some fans to get to know her on her own, and for her character to be developed outside of being Rey’s mother or Luke’s love interest. Then when the revelation happens, there’s a plethora of canon material for new fans of the character to go buy.  This new list is an expanded version, with advancements in canon taken into account.

Just as a note of my own bias, basically I’m sticking to what Disney/LucasFilm has presented to us visually and not character from only the novels.  Starting with those that won’t be the mother, first I excluded aliens. Next I excluded characters based on their age or their canon fate.  Rey wasn’t born until a decade after Endor, so I excluded anyone above 35-ish at the time of Yavin.  Along the same lines, certain characters we know die before Rey was born.

Lastly, I excluded characters with blue eyes or blonde hair.  Some traits just don’t match up genetically, and two blue-eyed people resulting in a hazel-eyed daughter, or two blondes having a brunette, just don’t match up.  There’s no guarantee that Star Wars will follow real-world genetics, or that the writers won’t invoke some one-in-a-million mutation, but I’ll stick to them as guidelines.  

Characters excluded for species, age, or genetics: All aliens, Rae Sloane, Mon Mothma, Bo-Katan, Jora Astane, Ketsu Onyo, Brunson, Bixene, Evaan Verlaine, and Queen Trios.

After excluding those characters, there weren’t a ton that fit the bill.  None of them are exceptionally strong candidates, without any controversy. When I first made this list, there was a clear front runner (although not named yet) in Jyn Erso.  She fit all the requirements and she was the lead role in a huge project, but that has seemingly fallen apart.  Without her as the front runner, possibilities include controversial choices that are getting a lot of focus, minor characters who are technically possible but not satisfying, or that one of the minor characters will see a late jump in narrative focus.  

With this dearth of choices, I’m wondering if maybe there is a twist coming up.  Here are a couple of characters that are, according to the official word, impossible candidates, but could make a dramatic appearance:

Jyn Erso – Some of you may think I’m crazy, but I personally think the fandom bought into her death way too easily and that LucasFilm wanted the heat taken off the speculation.  Both the book and the movie play Jyn and Cassian’s deaths ambiguously, leaving a lot of room for their survival.  In the movie we never see their bodies or their actual deaths.  In the novel the scene ends with Jyn becoming one with the force, which is a metaphor used for death… but it’s also a metaphor used for connection to the Force.  Chirrut says “I am one with the Force” constantly throughout the film.  It’s possible that Jyn’s latent Force abilities could have come to life in the face of certain doom, like Emma Frost’s secondary mutation in Genosha.

Mara Jade – It’s the perfect time to introduce her.  If none of the new, living characters really fit then only Mara could be a revelation that requires no multi-year buildup.  Instead, it’s a multi-year cover up.  Years of downplaying the idea of her reintroduction, and then she appears in all her glory.  People that know her would love it, and for everyone else there’s a simple explanation. “She’s Luke’s wife from the old canon.”  It’s easy to understand, and there’s plenty of stuff for people to go out and buy to get a fuller picture.  With new stuff on the way, most likely.  So yeah, I’ve seen some bitterness about Mara Jade recently, but I actually think she’s in the best position for returning since the reboot.

With those out of the way…

Many of the remaining possibilities are minor characters, and most of them, especially the ones getting narrative focus, seem to be of a different race than Luke- which would upset a lot of people if Daisy Ridley’s Rey were to be put forward as mixed-race.  It remains possible genetically, but it would be a controversial choice.  Looking at the possibilities, there aren’t a lot of unambiguously white characters that have been introduced in new canon, and all of them are either minor, officially dead, or have blue eyes/blonde hair.  It was this realization that led me to consider the above twists.  It’s always possible too that Rey isn’t Luke’s daughter, but this post is all about the possibility that she is.

Anyway these characters are all technically possible, but are mostly one-offs: Wiley, Iden Versio, Sosha Soruna, Tula, Tace, Uwa Pareece, Tolvan, Ssaria, & Chanath Cha.

The ones that receive the most narrative focus and interact with the most central characters: 

Pash ‘Bash’ Davane – Co-lead of Star Wars Annual 2; only unambiguously white person in the top tier.  Red hair, green eyes (which we know Luke likes)… an intelligent, strong badass. She saved Leia and debated ethics and morality with her.  So far she has only had one appearance, but characters introduced in the Annual have returned before.

Zarro – Co-lead of the Chewbacca miniseries; she looked younger to me, but she’s described as a teenager… meaning she’s at most 7 years younger than the 19/20 year old Luke.  With Rey not being born until over a decade later that would put Zarro around her late twenties and Luke around his mid-thirties. 

Sana Starros – Supporting character in Marvel’s Star Wars; Sana has received a lot of media and fan attention since her introduction, and has become an essential part of the team within the Star Wars comic series.  Funny and badass.  She has a romantic past with Dr. Aphra, but she has also has one with Han and has had some flirtations with Luke. 

Sabine Wren – Main Cast of Star Wars Rebels; probably has received the most attention, being a TV character.  Around Luke’s age, a staunch believer in the Rebellion, wields the darksaber, but so far they have never canonically crossed paths and we have no idea how long she lives.

Chelli Aphra – Co-lead of Darth Vader and Screaming Citadel; Supporting character in Star Wars; Lead of Doctor Aphra; Easily the breakout character of the new canon. I mentioned her in my first list as my dark horse candidate, and her importance has only grown since.  Although her age is ambiguous, I wouldn’t put her beyond ten years older than Luke.  She has had numerous interactions with Darth Vader, Leia, Han, and Luke himself.  She is currently teamed up with Luke on an adventure.  She is also privy to who his mother is and she knows that Vader was obsessed with him. She has a romantic past with Sana, but she also has flirtations with Vader and Luke. So much of her development is tied up with the Skywalker family and with Luke in particular, that her being Rey’s mother would be a really great reveal at this point.

[Teaser] 아코나이트 (ACONITE)_LET’S GET WICKED_ME LIKEY

Aconite drops both music video teasers for “Let’s Get Wicked” and “Me Likey”. The group finally makes their appearance for 2018 with a double title release and a full album release. That is not the only great news, late last year the group announced the addition of youngest member Wren who was seen in the original lineup predebut.

With the group as nine, the girls have expressed their joy to be completed and have worked hard for this comeback. As said before, with their other releases, the group will end their trilogy here with their double title releases. Although it isn’t totally clear from the music video teasers, some are already speculating there may be two endings to this trilogy.

In transition from Aconite’s last comeback, mid last year, the girls have returned with their knwon bright and poppy image in contrast to the more edgy and slightly dark Aconite of last year. The girls will return officially on the sixtheenth of this month, only a day away, so make sure to tune in and watch out for their album release!
