Before marrying you, Jungkook had the same routine. He got up, showered, brushed his teeth, put work clothes on, grabbed breakfast, and ran out the door with twenty minutes to spare. Trying to find a parking spot at 7 a.m. at the university was no joke and he had to leave early or some college kid would take the last spot and not think twice.

His night routine was similar. Jungkook finished the day between 5 and 6 pm, slowly regretting he ever agreed to teach evening classes. He’d kick off his shoes, eat dinner, grade some of his student’s papers if needed, brush his teeth again, and went to bed.

It was a constant cycle and with no one around, not even a pet, Jungkook’s life was fairly quiet and systematic. Sometimes his buddies would come over on the weekend for a couple of hours and that surely rocked his world.

But that wouldn’t happen often during the school season due to his ridiculously packed teaching schedule. The most recent person he’d hang around during those months was Taehyung and if he wasn’t free, Jungkook would spend his time at the grocery store–stocking up on milk.

“That was two weeks ago man,” Jungkook says, pushing a cart with five-gallon jugs of milk to his car. He’s on the phone with Taehyung who's reminiscing about the grand opening of the new art exhibit and how “lovely” it was to meet you there.

Jungkook doesn’t need reminding though.

He clearly remembers seeing you there and Taehyung happily making a complete fool of him once he found out who you were. Thankfully you hadn’t seemed to mind too much since you and Taehyung soon moved on to discuss various art theories, masterpieces, and underrepresented artists.

“You didn't have to stay y'know.” If Jungkook didn't know any better he'd think Taehyung was salty. "You could've left at 8 pm like you planned. __ and I would have been fine."

Jungkook winces hearing the man's argument. He did think about going home at 8, but it unsettled him to leave you alone with Taehyung. His colleague was enjoying himself a little too much that night and there’s no telling what he’d do or say when he’s overly comfortable.

Jungkook had to stay until you left.

"Are you kidding me? Leaving you unsupervised would've been the worst idea after all your endless blubbering." Jungkook pops the trunk of his car, stuffing the jugs of milk inside. "God knows what you'd scar __ with."

On the other line, Taehyung smirks through the speaker. "No, that's not it......you weren't going to leave me alone with a woman, an attractive one at that."

Jungkook grabs the last jug of milk, slamming it on the floorboard. "Student, and stop talking about her like that. She's my stu—"

"Say student one more time and I'm going to take all your milk and give it to Yoongi hyung's cats."

"I swear to god, Taehyung, if you touch my milk I'm never going to another art museum or wine tasting with you again." Jungkook is very protective of his dairy products.

"That's okay. I don't need you when __ says she'll be happy to go with me sometime." Smug bastard, Jungkook thinks. There's no way you said that.

"That's bull Taehy—"

"Look she's in her masters and is literally eight years younger than you. It's not that serious so stop acting like she's fresh out of high school. Besides, you said it yourself, she's not a child."

Jungkook grunts, shoving the cart into the others. "She's a young lady who happens to be enrolled in the school. As faculty, we have no business thinking or talking about her outside those terms."

"For fucksake, Kook. You always make things so complicated!" Taehyung's baritone voice cracks through the speaker. "I'm just trying to get you to admit that you're into her some way or another. How many other students have I stayed to talk to and you couldn't give a—"

Just then a loud, high-pitch screech interrupts the call. Jungkook whips his head around immediately. He doesn't spot anything at first but a string of profanities remains audible in the distance.

"Jungkook, are you okay?"

"Yeah, but someones screaming and I can't tell where it's coming from." Jungkook walks around the grocery parking lot, eyes darting left and right. "Oh shit!"

There, near the bus stop, you lay on your side with your right leg stretched out and blood running from your temple. You try getting up but you fall right back down, cursing sharply.

"Taehyung I gotta go, it's __. I don't know what happened but she's laying by the bus stop and I think she needs help!" Jungkook shuts his phone and races to where you lay. He kneels next to you with sheer horror on his face. "__, what happened? What can I do?"

"Damn college boys, Dr. Jeon," you spit, dragging your leg up as far as you can. You reach for your bag which had flung about a foot away when you crashed. "So fucking eager to get off the bus and—oh damn that hurts like a bitch!"

"What hurts?" Jungkook lunges forward to catch your torso from slamming on the hard concrete. "Stay still okay? We need to get you to the hospital."

"I'm all set, but thanks. It'll likely heal in a day."

Jungkook shakes his head and wraps an arm under your back and legs. "Can you put your arms around my neck?"

"Dr. Jeon, I appreciate what you're doing but I don't want to go to the hospital. Please."

You're serious. No trace of bluffing or even simply trying to act tough. You really don't want to go.

"You need to be checked by a doctor sweetheart," Jungkook insists. "Whatever happened has made it so you can't walk. C'mon, my car is nearby and I'll drive you over."

"No, wait!" He feels you push against his chest.

"__. I'm not leaving you without making sure you didn't break a bone or something. I don't want to make things worse but you don't look so hot right now. So please, let me take you." Jungkook lifts you up when you give a barely consenting yes.

"You sprained your ankle pretty bad hun." Dr. Kim Seokjin draws your attention to the X-ray scan. "Second degree." He points to the visual of your partially torn ligament. "There's going to be a lot of swelling so you're gonna need to stay off your foot for at least 4 weeks."

"Do I have to stay here?" is your first question.

"For the first couple of weeks, we strongly advise—yes." Dr. Kim moves on to the next X-ray scan. "You also cracked a rib which will also take about 4 weeks to heal, or more. Of course you're head has suffered a mild concussion as well but it's very mild thankfully." Dr. Kim catches sight of Jungkook next to you, staring at the scans. "You're wife's going to be okay," he says mid-diagnoses.

"We're not—" you start to say but Dr. Kim continues talking.

"Wife, girlfriend, lover, what have you. The point is, much of what we have here will recover with a month of rest, ice, and elevation." He takes a pen from his pocket and starts jotting down something on paper. "I recommend two weeks here for moderation purposes. If things look good, you finish the healing at home. Still, be careful though, no funny business."

The blank looks on both your faces tell Dr. Kim he wasn't clear enough. "Yah, my filters going to die with you two doe-eyed deer. No funny business means no sex!"

"Oh god!" You outburst, mortified by the thought. Jungkook whips his head to your slack-jawed expression. "Dr. Kim, it's not like that between us."

The older man suddenly zeros in on your professor, eyes narrowing slightly. "What's the matter son? Having trouble getting it up?"

Jungkook jolts in his seat, startled by the crass response. "I—no, what? There's nothing wrong with my—"

"We're not together!" You shout before Jungkook's sentence finishes. "We're friends." Saying that your professor brought you here sounded a little odd for some reason, especially when Dr. Kim was already convinced you two were a thing.

"Mhm sure, heard the same thing from my wife before we went off and eloped." Dr. Kim treads to the door. If he has a dime for how many times he's heard that "we're friends" bs he'd be...well, he's already rich so never mind. "Let's move on to something more productive now, like getting __ settled in a room. The sooner she starts the healing process, the sooner she can be good as new again."

"Thank you Dr. Kim," Jungkook says, slowly standing up to stroll you and your wheelchair out of the room. You didn't like it but the nurses insisted you be in one to keep pressure off your muscles.

"Yeah yeah." Dr. Kim waves him off. "Just remember what I said, no funny business. Especially here at the hospital. You don't know how many times I've heard the nurses catching their patients on top of one another at 2 am in the morning. That better not be you two, whoever you are to each other."

"Yes, doctor." You both reply, thankful of the fact that neither of you are in any position to be looking at each other.

"Is there any way I can be here for less than two weeks?" Jungkook watches as you plead with the nurse. It worries him that you're still anxious to avoid medical attention.

"I'm afraid not," the nurse says simply. "If you need anything, press the call button and I'll be in as soon as I can."

Once the nurse leaves, Jungkook pulls up a chair next to your bed. "Stupid question but how are you feeling?"

"I'm in an ankle brace, my rib burns, and my head is still dizzy. I'm trapped in the hospital for two weeks and all because a bunch of nineteen-year-old boys couldn't wait to hit up some frat party," you groan, not bearing in mind your tongue. "I'm sorry for dragging you into this Dr. Jeon."

"You didn't drag me into anything __. I'm glad I was there when this happened and I'm even more glad that you're here, getting help." Jungkook clears his throat before continuing. "Even if it isn't ideal for you."

You ignore the subtle pry for information. "Please, Dr. Jeon. You don't have to stay any longer. It's the weekend and I'm sure you have plans."

Jungkook gives a faint smile. "So, you're saying this is none of my business?"

"No, not—not at all. I mean if you want to stay then I guess you can but I don't want you to feel obligated or anything."

"I want to be here," Jungkook says simply. "But you know that's not what I meant. I'd like to know why it bothers you when anyone tries to help you...if I may."

"Just habit," you mumble quickly, averting eye-contact. It's not your professor's job to bear the weight of your problems.

Jungkook nods in reply, pretending you gave a satisfactory explanation. He wishes you'd tell him but if you didn't want to share more then that was your choice —he wasn't going to force you. "I understand." He grabs his phone from his pocket and rests his elbows on his knees. "Are you hungry?"

"Huh?" You look back at him, his question going right over your head.

"I asked if you're hungry. It's about dinner time so I can get you something if you want. I also have a bunch of milk in my trunk that needs to get to a fridge. But I can place the order now and pick it up in my way back here."

"Milk in your trunk?" Is the only words you repeat, dumbfounded. "Like chocolate milk or...?"

"Nah, Whole Milk." Jungkook grins at your scrunched up face. You try to hide it but not very well. "Don't look so disgusted. Milk is good for you."

"Yeah when you're ten years old."

"On the contrary!" You flinch when his voice rises, along with his eyebrows. "Milk has a lot of health benefits as adults. It has thirteen essential nutrients and helps maintain muscle and bone strength. I drink at least two full glasses a day, if not more."

"I'm sorry but that's nasty." You shudder at the thought of drinking milk in your twenties let alone your thirties. "You really enjoy it? The taste?"

"Yup, always have since a baby! Loved it so much that my mother-" You raise an eyebrow to which he abruptly switches topics. "Anyway, do you want me to pick you up something or no?"

You giggle, a little uncomfortable with whatever he was about to disclose to you.

"That's okay, no thanks."

"You sure? Otherwise I'm gonna be eating in front of you." Jungkook knows how this sounds — he's trying to force you to eat. But the truth is, he just doesn't want to eat by himself tonight. He also doesn't want to leave you alone this early, especially when you obviously detest being here, for whatever reason.

"I'm sure," you say. "But...if you want to come back you can. Not like I have anything to do anyway."

"Good then." Pleased, Jungkook opens up his phone contacts. "Give me you're number in case you change your mind while I'm out."

Over the next couple of weeks, Jungkook continues to stay by your side. He leaves to teach his classes of course and to go home late at night, but he stops by every day—hours at a time.

You keep insisting that he not come so much but he always makes the same excuses. "I just brought food" or "You're on my way home from the university". Sometimes he brings in class notes too.

Due to your current predicament, you're missing a lot of content so Jungkook thinks it best to go over key principles with you and takeaways from his lectures. He says it's his duty as a professor–never minding the fact that many of his other students are in a predicament of their own yet he’s not bothering to do jack for them.

"Look Dr. Jeon, I appreciate what you're doing but you really don't have to. I'll be perfectly alright to catch myself up from the textbook and study guides. You don't have to keep stopping by." You try again but Jungkook keeps his wall just as strong as yours.

"I know I don't have to __. I know that I could leave right now, take all these lecture notes home with me, and not feel guilty about a thing. But I told you I was going to be here and I'm going to keep to that no matter how many times you urge me to leave. I also want you to call me Jungkook outside class but have you allowed for any of those to happen?" Jungkook tosses the folder of notes in his sachel, a loud thump following. "A simple thank you would suffice."

"I am grateful, I really am. But I never asked to be given so much of your time. I feel bad because maybe you're just one of those overly nice people who feel it's their duty to stick around or what not when someone's in trouble. I don't need to be pitied over! Also, you said I could keep calling you the usual, so Dr. Jeon it will remain!" Why you're raising your voice, you don't know but it's happening either way.

"Yeah I did," Jungkook quips, matching your tone. "But after the last, nearly two weeks I think we ought to be on a first-name basis! And I'm in no way pitying you okay? I'm here because I care dammit! I don't want you to be alone and I don't want you to be behind in getting your Masters. So I' try to be be here every day for at least fifteen minutes if not more!"

You don't fully process what he says so you reply to what you remember most. "Why? Why can't I call you Dr. Jeon? It's been that way from the start, twice every week. So why do I need to call you Jungkook all a sudden?!"

"Because it makes me feel younger, you insulted my milk after I first took you to the hospital, we've been eating dinner almost every night since your injury, you told me about your childhood cat named Mr. Muttonbottom, and you just called me by my first name so there are no take backs! Now, if you're done making a fit, do you want bibimbap or jajangmyeon for dinner tonight?!"

What the actual hell? You cease your arguing at once, hearing your professor, or excuse you, Jungkook, all fluffed up. Obviously, you're not the only one high-strung over being stuck in the same routine day in, day out.

"Jajangmyeon...please," you mutter.

"Thank fuck," he swears. Yeah that's new too.

"Sorry for getting mad earlier." You mumble the words as soon as Jungkook returns with the food. "It just feels odd that you've been here all the time...you're my professor."

Jungkook mauls over your choice of words, stiffening ever so slightly. "Well, I'd like to think we're sorta friends now but alright. Does this actually bother you __? I don't mean to make you uncomfortable, you know that." He places the bag of take-out on the small desk near your bed.

"No, it's doesn't bother me." you just don't know how to react or what to say besides a measly thank you. More so, you don't want to make someone feel responsible for you...you should take care of your own shit without bringing others with you. It's not the best mindset, you're aware, but its the one you have.

"Okay good because to be completely transparent, I'm sorta here for me too. I live my myself, eat by myself, talk to myself....I do most things alone so it's nice having someone else to be around." He's not sure where to set his eyes, so he looks downward, fumbling with the napkins in front of him. "I'm making this awkward, sorry."

Feeling the strange need to offer comfort, you stretch a hand over Jungkook's arm. "I get it. It's nice having someone around too."

You and Jungkook hold each other's gaze for a few seconds more, letting the brief silence do the rest of the talking. Maybe you've been looking at this a little too one-sided.

"How are you feeling today? Any better?" Jungkook cracks open the bowl of Jajangmyeon, handing it to you with a pair of chopsticks.

You take the steamy food and gesture to your ankle which has swollen down a good amount. "Still more healing to be done but it's better."

Jungkook hums in approval. "That's comforting to hear. Dr. Kim going to discharge you soon?"

"Yeah, I think so. A few more days and he said I should be able to rest up at home."

"Really?" He chews on his bottom lip. "Well great, uhm , do you have stuff going on when you get back?"

You think a moment, trying to recollect if you made plans with Na-Rae. "Maybe some but not much. I don't have a ton of people around me right now either...down here I mean."

"Well, do you wanna go out to dinner then?" Jungkook pops the question more causal than expected. It's almost like he planned this or at least has been thinking about it for a bit. "We've been eating together for a while now and I think it might be a nice celebratory thing."

"Are you asking me on a date...Jungkook?" Because it defiantly sounds like he is, as indirect as it may be.

His reply is barely audible but you hear it and for the first time, your professor sounds truly timid. "Uh, well...let's go with "hang out", like friends do."

Metatron's manipulation step by step

Part 8: The offer (alternative versions)

The breakdown of Metatron's manipulation I've written so far is based on the assumption that what we see is all that happened. I restrained myself completely from looking for any other reasons for Aziraphale's actions than what we were shown on screen. I hope I managed to prove that those reasons were more than enough.

As a side note/summary, I recommend this post. It covers pretty well how I feel about the ending and various interpretations of the ending.

But of course just because it all makes sense on its own doesn't mean I am 100% convinced there couldn't be anything else. Quite the opposite, I think it's very likely there was. That we haven't seen all the important bits.

So today I want to focus on all the oddities. All the little things that stand out to me as strange writing choices in that final sequence, and in some instances entire season.

The first thing that got me thinking, in that initial frenzy of rewatching bits and pieces right after the original watch, was the shot when Aziraphale walks away from Metatron and goes to the bookshop to talk with Crowley.

I'll just quote my own post from several weeks ago:

The news he got is supposed to be "incredibly good". And sure thing, when he talks to Crowley about the possibility of him being an angel again, he gets very emotional. But before that, does he look to you like someone who believes he has incredibly good news? We know excited and happy Aziraphale. It's really rather impossible to miss it when Aziraphale is excited and happy. You'd notice it even if you were in a different room. Aziraphale who gets up from Metatron's table and crosses the street is most decidedly not an excited and happy Aziraphale. Then he doesn't just blurt his incredibly good news out right on a doorstep, as one might expect. No, he starts babbling, and beating about a bush. It might be interpreted as him simply being overwhelmed. But from what we've seen so far, especially in Season 1, it looks more like anxiety to me.

Something was definitely bothering Aziraphale.

Of course, it's entirely possible he was simply conflicted about leaving Earth.

If Aziraphale had to choose between (A) Crowley becoming an angel and (B) Crowley remaining a demon, he would - obviously, because he did - pick A. (No, we will not dive into all of hispossible reasons now!). If Aziraphale had to choose between (A) staying on Earth and (B) going to Heaven, he would - and again, we know because we saw him face that choice - pick A.

It's possible that this complicated thing that Michael Sheen's face does when Aziraphale crosses the street is simply Aziraphale weighing his options. He knows he can't have AA, so he's trying to quickly decide between AB and BA.

(And of course, In a twist of dramatic irony, he ends up with BB in the end.)

But it's also very likely there was another factor besides angel/demon and Earth/Heaven, another choice to be made.

Technically, it could have been another offer, or it could have been a threat, but I think it's not surprising that the common consensus in the fandom is that IF there was something there, it was a threat. I, personally, cannot think of what offer could there be that wasn't actually a threat phrased differently. That of course doesn't mean that Neil Gaiman couldn't think of one, but for now, let's drop it as a dead end.

The first big question is what exactly might have been threatened.

What immediately comes to mind is Earth but I don't think that's very likely. If that was the case Aziraphale would surely bring it up in his argument with Crowley. Especially since Crowley explicitly talks about Heaven possibly destroying life on Earth. No, I don't think Aziraphale is conscious of any imminent danger to Earth and humanity until the very end when Metatron mentions the Second Coming.

That leaves either Aziraphale or Crowley. I can't think of anything else.

The second question is what could either of them be threatened with.

Theory #1: The Book of Life

It's probably the most popular theory, for the very simple and logical reason that the Book of Life is a danger that was explicitly mentioned this season and seems to be left hanging over our heroes' heads.

I'm not going to go into too many details since I've already written a whole separate post on the Book of Life. I'd also like to recommend another that's in a similar spirit by @the-meta-tron.

The gist of it is that The Book of Life very likely doesn't work the way we were led to believe so far and that it almost certainly cannot be used against demons. But the characters don't necessarily know it.

There's one thing I feel I need to share on the topic - for the life of me, I don't know what to make of the scene where Michael threatens Aziraphale to use the Book. This is Aziraphale's face in the short shot we get of him, and... well.

As far as we are aware, this is the first time Aziraphale has heard about the Book of Life this season. (When Archangels came to investigate the miracle in episode 2, they didn't use the threat on him. Michael only informed Beelzebub, who informed Crowley, who we haven't seen inform Aziraphale and it's probably safe to assume that he didn't.)

What is happening in his head at this moment?

Is it blank because of the shock of having something like this thrown at him? I mean, he's a pro at receiving extremely bad news from Heaven, but they were never about him and so openly hostile. Or are there gears turning at lightspeed behind that painfully neutral expression? Could be either and anything in between.

And then there's Crowley.

He's just... lounging. When Aziraphale is threatened with the thing that made Crowley rush to the bookshop in episode 1 to get himself involved in the whole mess he didn't otherwise care about. In fact, he's just there in the background and barely involved pretty much the entire scene.

At first, I overlooked it because there was so much going on otherwise. Then I dismissed it because okay, Crowley isn't really needed in that scene but it would be jarring for him to leave, so letting him wait for his cue outside of frames is a solution of sorts. But that's not really taking the writing team seriously, is it?

This is a conscious choice and there was a reason behind it.

Just like it's the case for Aziraphale, I find it impossible to tell at this point what is going on there. It's either a pose while in reality, Crowley's on high alert, or perhaps he has his reason to believe that there is no real danger right then.

Enters the theory that Crowley had already figured out something at this point, possibly where the Book of Life is and how to get to it, or perhaps he might have even stolen it already.

It's a theory I'm not particularly married to but I find it interesting and not at all unlikely. It would certainly be an interesting twist for Aziraphale to cave under the threat of the Book of Life, while the Book was no longer in Heaven.

Theory #2: Memory wipe

Another disturbing thing we learned about Heaven this season is that it can play with people's memories.

Of course, even before season 2 was confirmed, memory erasure was part of many popular headcanons. But now we know for sure it's possible and a done thing within the canonic universe. What's more, while we can't be sure of the exact range, we know it can be performed remotely.

Of course, now that the Pandora's box is open, the theories just keep multiplying. After all, the options are pretty much endless. What do Aziraphale and Crowley remember, and what have they been made to forget? Are Aziraphale's memories still edited somehow? Did Muriel use to be someone important? How many angels in Heaven have had their entire identities taken from them? Are there things that no angel was allowed to remember perhaps?

Book of Life remains a mystery to be solved, but I feel it would be hard to just drop it into conversation without being too obvious. I don't think Metatron would put all the effort into his manipulation if, in the end, he was going to just blackmail Aziraphale. Memory wipe would be far easier to use as a threat without breaking the carefully crafted illusion that Metatron is a good guy.

It also would make for an interesting parallel between Aziraphale and Gabriel. Both were terrified of forgetting their loved ones but ran from it in opposite directions - one away from Heaven, the other right into it.

Theory #3: Execution 2.0

Another thing that might make a good threat is some form of repetition of Aziraphale and Crowley's execution in season 1.

It didn't work the first time because they swapped bodies, leading Heaven and Hell to believe they'd somehow become immune to elements that should be their doom. They're kind of left alone by their former sides, but Crowley is not wrong in calling their existence fragile. Beelzebub makes it clear they could go after him any moment. Michael, Uriel, and Saraquel obviously feel that Aziraphale is still obligated to report to them, while at the same time, Shax points out he's an outcast with no protection.

If on top of all that it would somehow get out how they really survived their attempted executions, things could get pretty nasty.

If Metatron somehow hinted, no matter how subtly, that he's aware of what actually happened, that he knows there's no mysterious immunity, but of course secrets of Supreme Archangel would be safe... Well, that surely would be convincing.

And I'm not saying that Crowley's idiotic outburst in front of Gabriel might have been what tipped Metatron off but it definitely could have been.

Theory #4: Unspecified

Let me repeat - if Metatron threatened Aziraphale at all, I don't believe it was open. He put a lot of thought and effort into presenting himself as relatable and trustworthy. Yes, he probably needed an extra incentive for Aziraphale to take his offer but he had to avoid making it look like he himself is a threat.

That's why I think the most likely scenario was that Metatron just hinted at some general danger without being too specific about what it was exactly and let Aziraphale draw his own conclusions.

That brings us to another very big question - was the threat intentional at all? Did Metatron indeed subtly threaten Aziraphale into obedience or did he let something slip accidentally and Aziraphale picked it up?

I've seen quite a few meta suggesting Aziraphale knows exactly what's going on and has some elaborate plan for when he gets to Heaven. Some see Crowley bailing out as an obstacle, and some go as far as to suggest that was also part of the plan.

These theories are super fun to read, make some great points, and even greater fanfic material. But I won't lie, I'm mostly skeptical of them ever being canonized. I just really think it was mostly manipulation and Aziraphale got played.

But that doesn't mean he didn't pick up on anything.

Just like the fact he's simply confused and manipulated in the Final Fifteen doesn't mean he won't make a plan once he's in Heaven and calmed down. I think something already started hatching in the elevator.

greatest hits of 2023 🥳✨ happy hogmanay!

1. i celebrated my 30th birthday and got thoroughly spoiled. my sister took me to belfast. we saw the sights and got hoolit, having a blast!! i hosted a joint housewarming (a year later hahaha) and 30th w the fam at my wee hoose too and it was braw too 🥰

2. i took part in nano and doubled my word count for my own original novel!! i picked it up again after months of it sitting collecting dust and thanks to the discord homies i was able to keep on top of it, stay motivated, and get excited about it again!! forever grateful for that 🩷

3. i took a scary step and left a job i'd been in for 10 years (majority of it spent unhappy in it hahaha but thanks to work besties i endured 😤🩷) and got a new one!!!! it is something completely different and much more challenging and enjoyable (and more pay 😌✌️). love it

4. lots and lots of reading!! i managed to squeeze in one more book today to hit 100 books read this year!! i went on so many adventures it was so much fun!!

5. lots of excellent holidays. we went to loch tay, aviemore, isle of harris, and the isle of skye. lots of adventures were had!

6. my sister got engaged!! i was such a proud big sister and couldn't be happier for the two of them 🩷

7. my sister picked me as her maid of honour for her wedding and i legit cried when she told me hahahaha but i'm so happy!! looking forward to it 🥰

8. my bestie and i are keeping going strong w our the x files podcast, which mainly involves us screeching over msr. we have the best laughs and so much fun. we're getting close to almost half way through season 2!

9. new kitchen!!!! i bought and picked out a new kitchen for my wee flat and it's getting installed next week. buzzing to finally having a working oven hahaha and creating a wee place which is all me 💚

10. 2 months into my new home, at the start of the year, i hosted a hen night for my cousin in my house and it was a hit! i was so pleased w my hosting abilities haha

honourable mention - that random few weeks where i did "pizza and prosecco fridays" hahahaha where i got a create your own pizza from the shops for my tea and a wee bottle of prosecco (enough for only 1 glass) and challenged myself to write a royai oneshot in that evening. it got me write back into writing for royai which was exciting!! and i had never truly appreciated the reality of finally working a mon -fri, 9-5 job until then. it was delightful in the longer evenings 🥰

One of the best aspects of Archer's writing is how seamlessly the show switches to different genres to play with. You move from the original 60s/70s spy films of the first 3 seasons to Archer Vice in season 4, which is easily explained with ISIS being shut down (which was explained by the creators as A. wanting to move past the spy genre and B. moving away from the name ISIS due to the rise of the terrorist organization) and the overarching plot of selling the cocaine. Throughout the entire season you're wondering how the coke even got there in the first place, and it actually turns into a plot point!

The writers are good at tying up all sorts of loose ends and questions you'd have and it shows in the premise of Archer Vice: ISIS is shut down because it was never authorized as an espionage agency, which was a question and the source of dozens of theories during the first three seasons. You wonder what Lana is talking about with her "decision" and her nausea, and it's revealed in the series finale. You reunite with characters from earlier seasons like Ramon and you even get to meet characters only mentioned before with Cheryl's brother Cecil.

Season 5 leads to a slight lean back into espionage with the gang working for the CIA, leading to a finale where it finally ends with ISIS dissolving completely and being blacklisted from espionage work...which is the perfect segue into a whole new genre: 70s Hollywood detective films/shows! It's a fresh start for the gang and for the writers, and them moving across the country to California gives them room for even more Hollywood backdrops later on.

After 6 and 7, Archer being in a coma leads to the BIGGEST and most drastic genre changes yet. The next seasons are in a kind of anthology with little plot developments in the real world, and with Archer's love of cinema and the fact that he spent his last days conscious on an old Hollywood set (and was literally shot by a femme fatale), of COURSE the next season takes place in a noir setting.

I just really love how much thought goes into this show's theming and storytelling. I know the Dreamland seasons are controversial and people dislike just how little you see in the real world, but I think that these seasons are NOT pointless. Getting a glimpse into Archer's subconscious and diving into his relationships to other characters is so so fascinating. Very Kantian, which is right up the writers' alley. You can really tell this show was created by an English major lol.

I actually stopped watching after Season 8 so I only vaguely know about the rest of the series. Apparently there's a space themed season? I'm really excited to see how things end and watch the conclusion to my favorite adult animated series.

What does evie do for work? We know what Beth does for work, but as far as I can remember we haven't heard about what evie does.

What is Rose's favourite genre of book? We're certain that she reads in her free time but we don't really know what she reads. Is she into fantasy? Does she secretly have a taste for those mature books hidden in the back of the library that Chloe mentioned? or something else? I MUST KNOW

What name would Ro like to be their official legal name? I'm assuming Ro is short for something but, if I'm wrong just correct me.

I have no questions for Claire, she just deserves a hug.

Actually no, has she talked to ranger about what she's discovered yet?

Who got Beth into therapy? She's clearly grown a lot over the last few years, and her therapist definitely worked overtime for that first year, but I can't imagine that Beth was the one to first take that step.

Will Abby ever follow up on that story of how she felt drawn to glenwood? She seemed pretty excited about it

Speaking of that, is that whole "glenwood called to me" thing, something rooted in magic? Is it orchestrated, is it just things coming together coincidentally? Or things falling into place through some force.

I know you mentioned collabs in your q&a and, I won't rush you cause that's pretty daunting. But- have you considered who you'd want to voice Simon? I know that there's probably other characters who may show up in the future but, Simon is so cool and I would love to see who you envision playing him if you ever push through with a collab in the future.

2. Evie worked as a math tutor and at a grocery store to pay the rent, but now she’s on the pack’s payroll helping maintain the finances for the whole operation.

3. Rose is a sci-fi/fantasy reader and she most certainly knows all about that secret shelf in the back! Her favorite series is the original John Carter books, her most recent read was “The Fifth Season” by N.K. Jemisin

4. Ro is their full chosen name! They no longer go by their deadname and the whole pack has moved on from using it. All the paperwork was to simply make the change official on all their legal documents!

No VA’s immediately come to mind but I also wouldn’t want to put any pressure on any creator mentioned.

"Love, Victor"

Dear friend,

"Love, Victor" had been on my watchlist for quite some time but I haven't watched it until a couple of days ago and let me tell you: I'm very glad I did. I just need to get these thoughts off of my mind, otherwise I'm going to combust:

1) First and foremost: "Love, Victor" is way more realistic and authentic than "Love, Simon". The latter is by no means a bad movie, it's just now that I have a comparison Simon's coming out is depicted picture-perfectly and very cliche, when in reality it isn't always like that. Coming out is the one thing, dealing with the aftermath the other. People are not always as accepting and tolerating as you'd like them to be.

2) I like that multiple issues make up the show which makes people relate on different levels: Most importantly homosexuality in a religious household that is also heavily influenced by culture (especially older generations). Emotional and mental trauma of children of mentally ill and unavailable parents (e.g. Felix and his with depression dealing mother and him having to take care of her, Mia and her neglecting dad, Lake feeling worthless and ashamed of her body because her mother trimmed her on diets from a young age). This one may be odd but the fact that Victor and his siblings cannot properly speak their mother tongue - I can kinda relate...

3) I really like that it takes Isabel a long time to come to terms with the coming out of her son and that she doesn't accept it after one oder two episodes. It makes it more real.

4) Felix and Lake were cute together but they reminded me too much of Stiles and Lydia in Teen Wolf - The "loser" gets together with the popular girl. Although they didn't have as much screen time, I think Pilar and Felix would make a great couple and I'm very excited to see more of them in season three!

5) Honestly, Mia got on my nerves for the majority of the time but in the end she just feels lonely and wants to be loved. The love she can't find at home she searches for in other places. We all just want to be loved, so I do understand why she acts the way she does (at least sometimes...).

6) I do understand that it must have felt very embarrassing and humiliating for Benji that Victor found out about his past as a teen alcoholic, especially on his birthday and on a get-together with his parents. However, confronting Victor in terms of him being new to all the "gay-stuff" and considering him a burden is just hurtful. Yes, they were both very vulnerable and hurt in that situation and again, yes, in such situations you say things you regret afterwards but still. There was most likely someone leading Benji through that stuff as well when he first came out. Words stick with people and you can't take them back. You may apologize afterwards but in the moment of speaking those words, a tiny bit of truth resonates.

7) Rahim is a very cool character and I like how comfortable Victor feels around him, particularly because Rahim can relate to him on a level Benji can't, which is coming out to very religious parents. And I must admit, I've felt more tension between these two than between Victor and Benji, especially when they sang "Holy" together. However, I find it sad that Rahim literally pops out of nowhere. He makes his first appearance in the sixth episode which makes it seem like they wanted to squeeze him in. If only he had been around since the beginning of like season 2 and then became more important each episode. But this way it's like, "Yeah, let's just add him because the first love isn't meant to work out all the time."

8) I think it's beautiful how Adrian reacted to Victor being gay. Adults always have that fear of disturbing children when telling them certain things, things that - in their way of thinking - "don't conform to the norm". But sometimes you don't have to be that terrified. Children have that beautiful way of taking many things with such an ease, you'd be surprised. And that ease slowly but surely transfers to Victors parents (especially his mother) and they start to come to terms with their son's homosexuality because it's not a phase; that's just who Victor is.

9) The scene that made me cry the most was when Felix showed up with his social worker in front of Victor's apartment and broke down in Isabel's arms. He really needed a motherly hug and the song playing in the background intensified the moment. It's so impressive yet sad how good he was at keeping this major part of his life (the situation with his mother) a secret from his best friend who literally lives in the same building. He hid his sadness and sorrow so well by constantly acting like the funny friend, which by the way is a response to emotional trauma.

10) Last but definitely not least: Why make such a big fuss about telling the entire school you're gay? You don't owe anyone an explanation. Like, why do you even feel the need to tell them, it's none of their business? Just tell your loved ones and that's it... We live in the 21st century, can we please just normalize that there are other sexual preferences other than being straight? Especially older generations: I know it's different from what you know and what you were taught but please try to loosen up a bit.

Needless to say, there are many more things and scenes making this show so special and important but these are just some of the things I've thought about a lot.

It was early March and the snow had long since melted, providing new, rejuvenated earth for the local town of Salem to start its farming season. You had both grown since the first time you had met, but very little about your relationship had changed in that time. Well, not much was different from then, except for the stolen touches and occasional kisses that only you and the trees knew about. Aside from that, things were the same, and the same was perfect for both of you.

However, something felt off as you approached Agatha this afternoon as the dew-wet Agatha’s shoes. She didn’t notice, however, till after she had excitedly wrapped her arms around your waist and kissed you with the widest grin on her face. That grin, however, fell as she gazed down at your watery eyes and trembling lips.

“My love, what’s happened?” she inquired, her hands cupping your cheeks and frantically wiping away fallen tears with her thumbs. You held her hands against your face, leaning into the warmth that they held. You took in a breath, letting out a bitter, watery laugh as you averted your eyes from her.

“I guess you were right, all those years ago,” she looked at you with worried confusion as her stomach fell.“There was a boy in town, who thinks I’m ‘very sweet’, as you put it,” you looked away from her, closing your eyes as new tears rolled down your face. Agatha stood stunned, unsure of what to do with herself. Her mouth felt dry, followed by her throat. She bit her lip and on a whim decided she needed to calm down. She leaned forward, nudging you to face her as she kissed your forehead.

“Honey, what happened?” she asked again. You looked like you were about to break, but you told her.

“Adam Gate, a cattleman in town. He’s a reputable man and he’s helped my father for years. We practically grew up side by side-”

“He asked me to marry him,”

Agatha felt her heart shatter there on the spot. She swallowed, though her throat was still dry, and shook her head. She took a step away from you, her arms wrapping around herself, though she wished they belonged to you. You stared up at her with hollow, wet eyes, like you pitied her.

“No, you can't,” she practically laughed at the notion, but you shook your head.

“I have to, Agatha. If I don’t I’d be a disgrace. I’d ruin my family, my father-”

“Do you love him?” she bit back, practically pleading to you with every fiber in her. You sniffed and shook your head, reaching out to trace your fingertips along her jaw.

“Not one bit,” you said with the smallest laugh that broke the witch even more. “I’ve only ever loved you,” you laughed again as you cried harder. You were bordering on something similar to hysteria.

“God, I don’t want any of this. I don’t want to be Adam’s wife, Mrs. Gate. I just want you,” you confessed. Agatha felt tears spilling from her own eyes now as she gripped your hand, squeezing it tight.

“Then don’t do it. Run away with me instead,”

“No. no, I can’t leave my family. If I leave, suspicions will be raised, and if they knew I left with a woman-” You shivered at the thought of what would happen to your family. She shook your head and moved past that. “You can't leave your coven. You still have so much to learn and I can’t take that away from you,” you insisted, your voice wavering, yet serious.

“Who cares about the coven? They don’t really want me,”

“You won’t admit it, but you need them, Aggi,” something changed in your eyes. Something almost warning filled them. It was an unnerving look on you. “I know about the dark magic, Agatha,” The witch felt every fiber in her tense.

“How did you-”

“You fell asleep while reading, and I peeked at your book. I- I didn’t understand it all, but from what I could comprehend, it wasn’t pretty,” Agatha was the one to avert her gaze now. “If you’re going to study whatever that is, you need your coven. They can keep you safe,” you pleaded, wrapping your arms around her as you sniffed.

“I’m learning it so that I can keep you safe,” she murmured. You looked up at her with sad, sunken eyes.

“But I can’t protect you, Agatha. I can’t protect you from yourself. Not when you’re learning magic like that,” Agatha bit her lower lip, then wrapped her arms around you, burying your face in her hair as she squeezed you tight.

“Then what do we do?” she asked after a long, drawn-out silence.

“I don’t think there's much that can be done,” you admitted and Agatha winced at the brokenness in your voice.

“You could stay. Run away to the woods with me. We both know you could,” she suggested again, but you shook your head.

“No, Agatha. That would put my family at risk, and I can’t do that to them,” you insisted. “You know that,”

“They would never know! We could leave in the dark and I could erase any memories of you, it would be like nothing ever happened,” she offered in desperation, only for you to move back from her with an appalled look in your eyes. She immediately regretted the idea and shook her head. “Darling, I didn’t-”

“But you did, Agatha, you did,”

“No- I just meant that-”

“You meant what you said, Agatha,” you insisted with a hard expression. “You know you did,” She faltered at that, sighing as she covered her face with her hands. She took in a breath and shook her head.

“You're right. You're right, and I’m sorry,” she admitted, massaging her temple as she squeezed her eyes shut. There was a drawn-out pause as Agatha collected her thoughts and you waited. She watched as you moved from her, sitting with your back against one of the oak trees that lined the clearing. She sighed heavily and moved beside you. You didn’t look at her, choosing to lick at the grass between your fingers instead.

“What do we do now?” she asked you. You shrugged your shoulders, picking at bits of foliage around you, collecting them in your hands as you pondered everything in a daze.

“I don’t know, Agatha. I really don’t know,” you murmured. Agatha nodded, biting the inside of her cheek. She scooted closer to your side and nudged you against her shoulder. You gave in, closing your eyes at the warmth of your touch. Then, you cried again. There was no avoiding it, you both knew that. Agatha kissed the top of your head, breathing in the wildflower smell of your hair as tears rolled down her cheeks once more.

She hadn’t meant to do it. Her intention wasn’t to kill, it never had been. But when all that magic was being shot into her, killing her, her power countered it. She recalled the painful burn of her coven’s magic turned against her. But she was soon comforted by the warmth and inviting feeling of the magic that belonged to the elders became her own. She knows she should have been scared of it. She should regret it now.

She was supposed to feel remorse and regret for killing her superiors. They had nurtured her, taught her, and loved her in their sick way. They had been the only family she ever knew, and she slaughtered them without a single wave of her hand. But as she ran her thumb over the brooch in her hand, the cold, smooth obsidian and marble carving warmed in her clutch, she could only feel content. It was a cutthroat world, she decided, and only the strongest were made to survive it.

She was on her own now. The only thing that would control her now belonged to her alone. She would embrace this new side of herself. She’d learn all the light and dark magic she could to spite those that (formally) stood in her place. She now considered that she needed to gather her things and leave before the rest of the coven realized what had been done. Again, this should have brought her some form of discomfort, but she was once again greeted by a feeling of relief.

Leaving her home, she looked to the sky, wondering about all the places she could go. She had heard that London was lovely this time of year. Or she could join a ship and travel all around the world by boat. The possibilities were endless now and she reveled in the newfound feeling. Once packed, she had only a brief moment of hesitation when a single thought came to mind. You. She couldn’t leave you behind, it wasn’t right. She didn’t want to leave you behind. You were everything. You had become her world when you met in that clearing years ago.

The only question she had now was whether you would come with her or not.

“Agatha? It’s the middle of the night, are you alright?” you asked her in a whisper when you had opened your door. She hesitated for a moment, lost in the way the moon silhouetted your sleepy features. After she blinked and cleared her head, she took your hand in her own. You took hers in kind and squeezed it. The shadows around you hid the dark discoloration of her fingertips.

“Something’s happened and I need to leave. For good,” she explained hastily. “The coven will be after me before morning. I won’t be able to come back,” she murmured, closing her eyes in an attempt to hide from you maybe. If she was to ever feel regret for what she had done, it would only be now, when admitting it to you. She couldn’t tell you the real story, in fear of how you would react, but a lie still hurt.

“Aggi, what did you do?” you murmured, cupping her cheek. She leaned into the touch, indulging in the warm feeling of your thumb stroking her cheekbone. It was warm in the same way her magic had been warm, so she reveled in it once more.

“Come with me,” her voice was below a whisper as she pressed her lips to your palm, opening her eyes to meet your own. She didn’t know what to expect from your expression when she asked, but the look of grief and pain that overtook your gaze surprised her more than she would have expected.

“Aggi, I-”

“We would be safe, happy. I can take care of us both and we can live our lives, just you and me,” She spoke quickly, her voice filled with an anxious plea that broke you. She watched as you squeezed your eyes shut, pressing your lips in a fine line. Any hope she had of you coming was quickly dwindling.

“I’m sorry, I can’t,” you said in a breath. She only now noticed the tears dripping from your eyes when the moonlight caught one that rushed down your chin just right. She squeezed your hand, trying to hold on for as long as she could.

“Why? What’s keeping you here? You don’t love him. You never did. You're not even his kind” She choked, trying her best not to yell. “You didn’t want any of this, that’s what you told me,” she murmured and you shook your head.

“I know. I know that’s what I said, but things got more…” you trail off, biting your lip as you glance away from her eyes, “complicated,” you finished and another round of tears started to fall. She didn’t understand what you meant, searching your gaze for some kind of explanation. Was this your way of rejecting her? A gentle way of saying “it’s been fun, but it needs to end.” that didn’t sound right. It didn’t sound like you.

It took her a moment to realize you were warped around her now, your arms resting right below her own and your face buried in her shoulder, wetting the fabric of her dress and cloak with tears. Once she noticed the touch, she felt it. She felt the almost unnoticeable bump of your stomach and the world seemed to crash around her. She felt like she was going to be ill. Like she was going to pass out then and there and see her mother much sooner than she intended.

“No. no, you’re not...” she stammered as you squeezed her tighter, your small sobs muffled by her shoulder. She couldn’t finish the thought out loud. The words felt foreign in her mouth. They felt like another lie that she didn’t want to tell you.

She wasn’t sure what to do now. She wanted to hold you, soothe you, and tell you it would be alright, but something all too familiar to betrayal seemed to seep into her skin with every shaky sob you took against her chest. Her cheeks grew wet without her noticing as you clung to the cloak around her shoulders.

“I’m sorry, Agatha. I-” you pulled away from her, your hands grabbing at her shoulders to keep her up. Your cheeks glistened in the moonlight. She could make out your furrowed brow, your trembling lip, and the way you suppressed the hiccup forming in your throat. “There was no more avoiding it. It’s been a year and Adam’s waited long enough,” you whispered to her, your voice laced with grief. She met your eyes once more and shook her head, swallowing the cry that formed in her throat at the sight of you. Looking into your eyes was like realizing what was happening all over again. It took her some time to formulate thoughts, and more to formulate appropriate words.

“We-we can fix this. We can raise it ourselves or find someone else-” she was frantic now, listing off things the two of you could do to fix this as you shook your head, taking her face between your palms to steady her, keep her looking at you. “I’m sure there’s a spell or other options if you don’t-” she stopped when she felt your fingernails dig into her cheeks. Her mouth was open, forming silent words that fell on deaf ears as you still shook your head.

“No, Aggi. No spells. No ‘finding a way out,” She didn’t want to hear this. It wasn't right. None of this was going how it should. She watched with helpless eyes as you cupped her face, your gaze puffy with a pain she couldn’t fix. “I’m sorry, Aggi, but it’s not our time.” You sounded tired and hearing that faint voice made her realize how exhausted she was. Exhausted from her studies, from her mother, from what had happened only hours before, and now from you. She grimaced, swallowing back more tears and the bitter taste that was filling her mouth as she shook her head. You simply took a breath, letting your own eyes close as you nodded.

“But you don’t love him. You love me,” she insisted with pleading eyes as she ran a hand through your hair, moving it out of your face. “You told me that. You told me you were always going to love me and only me,” she whimpered, holding your hand against her cheek in another effort to keep you with her. Her voice was small, helpless like a child. It was a voice that few would ever hear, and if the circumstances were different, you might have felt special hearing her so vulnerable. You made another choked sound as you brushed your thumbs over her cheeks.

“And I meant it, my love. I meant every word,” you insisted with a hiccup “But I can’t come with you. Not yet,” she stayed silent for a while, letting those words sink in as a new ache filled her chest. It could be regrettable hope or determination, but she wasn’t letting you slip away from her that easily.

“Then I’ll wait,” You shook your head at this but she pressed on, taking your hands from her cheeks and squeezing them tight before pressing them to her chest. You could feel the rapid speed of her heartbeat under your palm. “I’ll wait for you as long as I need, and we’ll be together, just you and me,”

“That’s not fair Aggi. You can’t do that to yourself,” your cried, but she shook her head as she swallowed the lump in her throat. “You don’t deserve any of this Agatha. I’m sorry…” you murmured, turning your gaze from her pleading eyes.

“Please!” she yelled, her voice dripping with new desperation that you would never grow familiar with. You meet her blue gaze again. Her eyes are watery with her tears but it’s breathtaking in a way. “Just, just let me have this, ok?” tears spill from their barrier now, and it would have pained you too much to say no, so you gave in to her.

12 Facts You'd Never Guess About Stuntwomen

At the intersection of sexy and badass, you’ll find Joanne “JoJo” Batten. For more than a decade, Batten has found steady work in the film industry as a stuntwoman. She started as actress Thandie Newton’s body double in the 2008 Guy Ritchie film, RocknRolla, and has since worked on several Ritchie films (including Sherlock Holmes, King Arthur, and the upcoming Aladdin), as well as non-Ritchie projects, like Justice League and Annihilation, due out in February.

And Batten’s schedule is getting even busier. “I’ve always been a driven and motivated person,” says Batten, born and raised in London. “I feel lucky to work in an industry that combines all my passions.”

So what does it take to be a pro stuntwoman? As Batten explains, plenty of strength and endurance, lots of skill, and a few loose screws.

1. We Can Move Like Dancers.

“I trained like a dancer for 12 years and a martial artist for five years,” Batten says. “I am also a personal trainer and a yoga teacher. This allowed me to naturally progress to the more physical side of the movie industry, and my dance background also helped when I began screen combat training. Being able to perform as many movement skills as possible is key.”

2. We Hit the Weights.

“I’ve always been physically active, but it wasn’t until three years ago, when I really focused on weight training, that I began to look the part, too. I find the gym therapeutic. It’s my ‘me time’ when I get to zone out the rest of the world and focus on myself. It has also definitely helped boost my work in the film industry.”

3. We Embrace Challenges.

“This year I entered my first bodybuilding competition at the UKBFF Zack Khan Classic and won the masters bikini fitness category, which for women over 35. I coached and prepped myself for the show, since I felt I had enough experience and the self-motivation to achieve the look I wanted. I kept my prep as simple and as healthy as possible. My day-to-day training didn’t change too much. The changes to my diet and cardio made the big difference. Six weeks out, I started doing fasted cardio each morning in the form of a low-intensity, steady-state (LISS) walk for 40 minutes and gradually tapered my calories and carbs down over the final few weeks.”

4. We’re Slightly Crazy.

“I dislocated my right shoulder just six weeks out from the competition in a motorbike incident on holiday in Ibiza. But I continued with my prep. I even trained with a sling on for a couple of weeks. For the three weeks after the disloation, all upper-body movements were off-limits, so I trained legs four or five times per week. I could add in very light upper-body training for only the final few weeks of prep. Luckily, my upper body was already well developed from all the work put in over the previous three years.”

5. We Can Handle Weapons.

“As part of my preparation for Annihilation, which stars Natalie Portman and is due out in February, I underwent three months of firearms training to look the part of the military-trained female character played by Gina Rodriguez, whom I was doubling. I needed to look as if I knew how to handle and fire an M4 carbine as if it were second nature. Some scenes also required wire-work training, which was particularly taxing on my body, but it was incredibly exhilarating being flung high and hard into walls. Oh, and I had to shave off half my head of hair for this role, too.”

6. We Can Become Amazons.

“Last year I successfully auditioned for a role in Justice League as one of Wonder Woman’s Amazonian fighters. As Amazons, we needed to be sliced and diced, so we underwent three months of brutal training to get us screen-ready. There was a lot of metabolic conditioning and circuit work: heavy sled relays, battle ropes, HIIT training on the SkiErg machine, assault bike, sprints, and rowing. It was real vomit-inducing stuff.”

7. We Know How to Die.

“For Justice League, we underwent highly specific weapons training, which included learning how to use a spear, a sword and shield, and a bow and arrow. I also needed to be able to die convincingly on camera, so we drilled and drilled, taking hits in various parts of the body from arrows, spears, and swords and simulating the eventual painful death from these injuries.”

8. We Understand Our Bodies.

“Prepping for contests while working 14-plus-hour days can be challenging, so everything has to be streamlined. I keep things simple by sticking to the basics that I know work for me. I have go-to, easy-to-prepare meals, which doesn’t make for the most exciting diet, but it’s only short-term, so I suck it up and get on with it. I’m able to prep and coach myself because I know my body so well now.

“My advice for others: Get to know what works for you and stick with it. People can overcomplicate nutrition. At the end of the day, it’s just input versus output, using the macros that suit you. I’ve found over the past few years that I’m actually very well adapted to carbohydrates, having avoided them for years previously. My energy levels and body composition have never been better at the grand age of 38.”

9. We Can Kick Ass.

“I’ve been tasked with getting the lead actors for Aladdin in shape for their roles in a very limited time period, so I have both actors training with me five times a week in a specially designed gym at the studios. Mena Massoud, who plays Aladdin, has been on a bulking and then cutting program, and Naomi Scott, who plays Jasmine, has been on a cutting plan and is making incredible progress in her strength and fitness. They’re both killing their training, and I’m incredibly proud of them. I’m also planning to produce an online training program and nutrition package.”

10. We Don't Make Excuses.

“It’s all too easy to say you don’t have time to fit everything in. But in this game you have to master a lot of skills and work hard. I’m always against the clock, but I still find time to train. My weekly training split is simple and time-efficient. My on- and off-season training doesn’t really change at all. It’s the diet and cardio that alter.”

11. We Treat Our Bodies Right.

“I like to take walks, either hiking in the countryside or exploring the city. I’m also still a keen dancer, and I take classes whenever I can. I’m a qualified yoga teacher, but I don’t always get to spend as much time on it as I would like, so weekends are a great chance to get in full recovery sessions. My body needs to be able to perform at its peak at all times, so I need to take care and maintain it with regular deep-tissue sports massage and physio.”

12. We Never Stop Grinding.

“I feel lucky to work in an industry that combines all my passions. But it isn’t luck that got me here—it’s been hard graft. The film industry is tough and involves very long hours. It requires lots of sacrifices, but the final results are always worth the effort. It’s incredibly satisfying watching the final edit on the big screen, and I never dread going to work on a Monday morning.”
