Have you ever wanted to draw something but you fought due to your skill level at the time you decide not to do it
Ohhh man. I’ve got so many projects that I want to make but haven’t because I view my current skill set as lacking— and they’re almost always drawing related, because I’m very insecure about my drawing skills— even moreso than my writing skills. To go on a tangent and paint a picture of how severe this visual art insecurity is, I will list off how many people I have directly permitted to read my major written pieces once I passed my mid-teens:
My older sister, because she was my co-writer for the project and not letting her read my work wasn’t an option
My mother on one occasion
My aunt, who has experience with writing and publishing, and I have only ever sent two pieces to
Look at that number of people. The number of pieces I shared with them, in total, was four out of the hundreds of projects I’ve made over the years. I was so precious about my writing because I’m insecure about it. I’m even more insecure about my art. I couldn’t list off all the drawing projects I hesitate to make because I think it’s impossible with my current skill level, not even in a thousand years, but I’ll give a few examples that are always in the back of my mind lately.
A semi-animated pilot to a fantasy-comedy cartoon parodying The Office, starring a goblin secretary who’s trying to assassinate her employer and take over as the final boss of an RPG-esque dungeon that operates like an office building, while her employer is a lich who misinterprets all her efforts to kill him as her being flirty, leading him to develop a very severe crush on the goblin. The project is titled “Boss Fight”, and I have all the resources I need to make it, but I drag my feet because of my art insecurity… also I would be doing all the voice acting myself, and I don’t find my voice very appealing even when I change it to fit different characters.
A webcomic about a fantasy world populated by bipedal bug people that features a very brief “save the world” plot, then focuses the rest of the storyline on how the characters recover from the events of their backstories and the trauma the experienced while saving the world. It’s titled “The Creeping Chronicles”, and I love the project but am so insecure about being able to do the story justice with my art skills that I’ve tentatively pivoted to making it a book series instead. It’s got 21k+ words across 10-ish chapters because I’m too insecure about my art to draw it fully.
A slice of life comic titled “Welcome to Wayside” that’s basically Gravity Falls meets Stardew Valley where a young girl saves a cryptid’s life and now he’s stuck helping her until he repays the life debt he owes. The story features a vaguely men in black-style evil secret agency called G.L.O.O.M. (Gents for Ludicrous Oddity Organization and Management) who have various ranks are named after facets of fashion (khakis are their grunt labor and pocket squares are researchers) and they use a threat-ranking system based on dress codes (i.e. “WE HAVE A BLACK TIE DOWN ON SOUTH STREET, REPEAT: BLACK TIE DOWN ON SOUTH STREET”), and I adored G.L.O.O.M. along with the cast of characters featured in the story, but I don’t feel confident in my ability to design interesting-looking original cryptids.
I could leave this post at that, but I’ve got an important thing to say on this subject—
If you want to make something but are hesitating to because your skill levels are lackluster, make it anyways.
Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever can. Let yourself make the thing, and let yourself make the thing badly. Love it and how ugly it is. The perspective is all askew in this part, and that character is horribly off model there, and isn’t it all amazing? You made that! You made a thing! And you wouldn’t have this thing that you made if you waited until the conditions were perfect to make it and refused to create the thing before your skills were sufficient.
There’s this terrible thing about creative projects— one that is very noticeable in drawing projects especially, in my experience. As your artistic skills develop, your artistic vision also develops to become more and more detailed and masterful… and it’s always going to be outside of your grasp. If you wait until you’re ready to make the thing, you will never make the thing, because you’ll never feel ready no matter how much you build your skills. But if you make the thing before you feel totally prepared, you’ll learn and grow artistically as well as personally, and will be able to feel more confident in future thing-making efforts.

Editor's Note from The Black Sands of Socorro by Patricia A. Jackson
Tumblr media
While researching Patricia A. Jackson’s entire body of Star Wars work for a short story anthology, I came across the West End Games sourcebook Star Wars: The Black Sands of Socorro (1997.) It’s a crucial work of Star Wars ephemera: The first creator of color writing for Star Wars in an official capacity, writing not just about individual characters of color, but centering entire cultures populated by non-white characters. A young Black woman in the 1990s wrote science fiction for Star Wars, worldbuilding with concepts like antislavery, indigeneity, linguistic divergence, and settler colonialism...while Disney-Lucasfilm in the 2020s ineffectually positions Star Wars as a post-racial fantasy.
I non-hyperbolically refer to Patricia A. Jackson as the “Octavia Butler of Star Wars,” not because fans of color need to be officially sanctioned by Lucasfilm to create Star Wars content, but because of how difficult it is to carve out anti-racist space in a transmedia storytelling empire. Challenging even in transformational fandom spaces (e.g. fan works), to broach race in affirmational fandom spaces—or while writing content for the property holder—is to be unflinchingly subversive.
And Jackson did it first. In an interview with Rob Wolf in 2022, Jackson described her experience writing race into Star Wars in the 1990s as an “experiment.” The planet, peoples, and cultures of Socorro were a way for Jackson to obliquely, yet concretely, center Blackness and racial justice into Star Wars, pushing the racial allegory constrained by the original trilogy to its limits.
Since it’s inception, Star Wars has spent much of it’s storytelling on the fringes of the galaxy (whether it’s Tatooine or Jakku, Nevarro or Ajan Kloss.) The Black Sands of Socorro is an extension of that trope, but where the Star Wars films used indigeneity as set dressing (eg. “Sand People”, Ewoks, Gungans, etc.) Jackson creates a vivid world where indigenous culture and settler colonists collide; where characters are coded with dark skin and central to the action. The planet Socorro is distinct as a Star Wars setting. As one of the only places in the galaxy where slavery is eradicated with a vengeance, Socorro refuses to let go of a plot line Star Wars media often leaves behind. Socorro is a haven from Imperial fascism, a space where readers are invited to imagine a story that does not center around occupation.
When I learned that Patricia A. Jackson no longer has a physical copy of The Black Sands of Socorro, I realized that I had the materials and the means to create a fanbound hard copy for her home library (well, and also for my own home library.) While this handmade book is not an exact reproduction of the RPG supplement, I hope my renvisioning of the supplement as an in-universe travel guide lives up to the original work.
As the idea of creating a travel guidebook based on the original material percolated, I reflected on the State of Race in Star Wars in the year since I compiled Designs of Fate, an anthology of my favorite Patricia A. Jackson short stories. In May 2022, actress Moses Ingram debuted as Inquisitor Reva Sevander, the deuteragonist in the Dinsey+ streaming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. As predicted by Lucasfilm—and any fan sick of alt-right Star Wars related “whitelash”—Ingram was promptly subjected to a firehose of racialized harassment and misogynoir.
Yep, fascist self-proclaimed fanboys complained about a Black woman Inquisitor in 2022, having no idea (or deliberately whitewashing) that one of creators of the entire freakin’ concept of Inquisitors was a Black woman writing for the Star Wars Adventure Journal three decades ago.
Then, a public facing Star Wars account (@StarWars on Twitter) broke precedent and slapped back at the trolls. Lead actor Ewan McGregor filmed a video retort, posted on @StarWars, stating “racism has no place in this world” and telling off the racist bullies: “you’re no Star Wars fan in my mind.” A few months later, Disney+ debuted it’s second flagship Star Wars streaming series of the year, starring a Latino actor as the protagonist. In the opening episode of Andor, a police chief describes Diego Luna’s eponymous lead as a “dark-featured human,” perhaps the closest the franchise has ever gotten to acknowledging out-of-universe constructions of race, to date. The series explored aspects of imperialism with more depth than Star Wars had previously done on screen, such as the Empire’s treatment of the native people of Aldhani. And, in November, the The Acolyte, a Disney+ series co-developed by Rayne Roberts, announced Amandla Stenberg and Korean actor Lee Jung-jae as its top-billed leads. Stenberg will be the first Gen Z, mixed race, Black, Inuit, queer, and non-binary actor to lead a major Star Wars series.
On the Patricia A. Jackson Star Wars front, in 2022, Jackson’s character Fable Astin was an easter egg in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Jackson will again write for Star Wars in an official capacity in From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi, due for publication in Fall 2023. A series about Lando Calrissian, the galaxy’s most famous Socorran, is still in production, so I have my fingers crossed that we may soon see Socorro on camera.
I wonder if this past year will have been a fulcrum year for BIPOC fandom. Maybe Disney has finally realized it’s bad for business that the alt-right uses social media algorithms and Star Wars fan spaces as a soft recruiting ground to radicalize young white men? Maybe Star Wars as a franchise will continue to loudly disavow fan whitelash and firmly position performers of color in true leading roles? I really hope so. On the other hand, as much as I am in favor of increased representation in Star Wars storytelling, I am also troubled by Disney-Lucasfilm’s framing of the Galaxy Far, Far Away (GFFA) as “colorblind.” Recently, Star Wars fans have been asked to accept that in the (a long time ago) sci-fi futurepast GFFA, humans have always been post-racial, and it’s just a coincidence that racialized people were not caught on camera the way white characters have been for years. The galaxy is post-racial and it’s just acoincidence that the movers and shakers of the galaxy have largely been depicted as white men for the past 40 years of media.
For example, in the decade since Disney rebooted the expanded universe, fans have learned that Star Wars’s biggest galactic war criminal to never be depicted on screen is Admiral Rae Sloane, a bisexual Black woman who was the leader of Imperial remnant forces, one of the architects of the First Order, and personal mentor to General Hux. Under Disney-Lucasfilm’s post-racial retcon of the Star Wars universe, the allegorical fascists are intersectional equal opportunity employers (at least in expanded universe content like animation, video games, and novels.) Along those lines, several of the franchise’s newly introduced, prominent women of color have been part of the Empire: Imperial loyalist Cienna Ree (Lost Stars), Inferno Squad leader Iden Versio (Star Wars: Battlefront II) former stormtrooper Jannah (Episode IX), First Order pilot Tamara Ryvora (Star Wars: Resistance), Inquisitor Trilla Sundari (Jedi: Fallen Order), Captain Terisa Kerrill (Star Wars: Squadron) and, most recently, Inquisitor Reva Sevander. Once the sole purview of stodgy, very white and very British men (demonstrably so even in the sequel trilogy movies,) now anyone can be a stooge of the Empire.
That’s not to say that marginalized people can’t collude with fascism, or that there haven’t been heroic characters of color introduced in recent years. Rather, I posit that in order to sell audiences on the post-racial/colorblind GFFA, fascist-of-color characters like Rae Sloane or Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon (The Mandalorian) are created by necessity. The franchise wants to at once be racially inclusive and yet never directly address race. In Star Wars, real world oppression is primarily explored through allegory—such as Solo (2018)’s bit on droid rights, the clone army, or the myriad of non-human alien bodies that nonetheless are coded with racial stereotypes. A lot has been said about how allegory in sci-fi allows audiences to grapple with inequality from a comfortable distance, and not enough has been said about which audience is being prioritized for comfort.
What does it mean when race is supposedly a non-issue for humans in the GFFA, but creators and actors with marginalized identities cannot participate in Star Wars in any capacity without experiencing identity-targeted harassment? In the past ten years, this has been true even for white women like Kathleen Kennedy and Daisy Ridley, but the vitriol has been most strongly directed towards Black women like Lucasfilm Story Group lead Kiri Hart, author Justina Ireland and The High Republic Show host Krystina Arielle. Can the Galaxy Far, Far Away truly be “colorblind” or “post-racial” (never-racial?) if the narrative continually centers white characters and replicates all the common racial inequities seen in commercialized Hollywood storytelling? Upon the release of The Force Awakens in 2015, critic Andre Seewood aptly described Finn’s positioning in the story as “hyper-tokenism,” even presciently predicting that Finn would continue to be hyper-tokenized in Episodes VIII and IX. As the narrative veered away from Finn, it also left unrealized a stormtrooper rebellion plot line where Finn could have been, in effect, a Black abolitionist. Actor John Boyega’s critique of his experience in the sequel trilogy aligns with Seewald’s assessment: “Do not bring out a Black character, market them to be much more important to the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side.”
Published in 1997, The Black Sands of Socorro came before Finn, before Mace Windu, back when all the melanin of Star Wars could be found in Billy Dee Williams’s singular swagger and James Earl Jones’s distinctive voice. Back then, the most prominent Black actress in the original trilogy was dancer Femi Taylor, who played Oola, the hypersexualized green twi’lek fed to the rancor in Return of the Jedi. Bantam Spectra, the publisher that held the license for Star Wars from 1991 to 1999, had no leading characters of color in its’ Expanded Universe. The first full length Star Wars novel by a writer of color, Steven Barnes’s The Cestus Deception15, would not be published until 2004. Even though the book featured two protagonists of color, they would not be depicted on the cover. At Comic-Con in 2010, I spoke with Tom Taylor, a white Australian comic book writer who tried to make the lead family in Star Wars: Invasion (2009) a Black one, but was shut down during the creative process. The comic instead depicts a family of blondes, because the publishers did not think fans would embrace leads of color. All this to say, the inclusion of melanated characters in Star Wars has been so, so hard fought. It’s incredible The Black Sands of Socorro exists at all. It’s more than worthy of celebration, and I’m floored that more attention has not been brought to it.
Patricia A. Jackson is a smuggler.
This sourcebook was explicitly written to assist fans in telling their own Star Wars stories, and in it Patricia A. Jackson smuggled in emphatic allusions to the Black Panther movement and the trans-Atlantic slave trade, smuggled in commentary on indigeneity and settler colonialism, and smuggled in multiple ways for fans to envision characters of color. Her writing has consistently added richness to the GFFA, and in The Black Sands of Socorro she envisions multiple histories for multiple cultures coded as non-white. She ensured the existence of not mere tokens, but flourishing societies of people of color in Star Wars.
The coda for The Last Jedi again shows how perilously close to tokenization characters of color, particularly Black characters, are in modern day Star Wars. In this film, the franchise returns to itsprevious exploration of slavery with the depiction of enslaved children on Canto Bight. The last speaking lines of the film are from Oniho Zaya (played by Josiah Oniha, a young Black British actor) who recounts Luke Skywalker’s heroic exploits to the other children. The film then closes out by showing that one of the downtrodden children is Force-sensitive—a future hero in the Star Wars mythos. In a film where every single Force-user depicted is white, the next generation kid with the potential is, again, a young white boy. Once again, the Black character can only serve the narrative in a supporting role. A franchise depicting a colorblind fantasy continually reifies racial and gender hierarchies in America. With The Acolyte, scheduled for release in 2024, it’s possible the franchise may finally be shifting past hyper-tokenism. In the meantime, fans of color and our erstwhile allies will continue doodling in the margins.
In the end, the sequel trilogy left the Canto Bight plot line (and the overarching slavery plot line started in Episode I) unresolved. I’d like to think the Black Bha’lir strafed Canto Bight and grabbed those kids. It seems like something they would do. Out among the stars, Oniho Zaya is adventuring with Drake Paulsen, and his story does not bracket another characters’; he is central. The Black Sands of Socorro is a launching pad for stories like that. It represents how fans of color have always carved out pieces of Star Wars for ourselves.

Fic ideas for the LanDot nation
The many LanDot ideas I have but never got to write (it’s midterms now ;-;)
I’ll classify this into spoilers and non spoilers for the manga so anyone can read this :3
No Spoilers fanwork ideas
Dot gets told that his love life will flourish by a prophet and he is HYPED
Based off the official fan book info where he spends his pocket money on monthly prophet magazines.
Astrology guy x Astronomy guy
Shenanigans ensue
Dot has a nightmare where he is surrounded by Anna dolls
The dolls tell him to confess/make sense of his feelings like the Christmas ghost of the past, the future and the present
Could be a reoccurring nightmare or just a one time thing, both give Dot a sense of “???huh???” But being a little bit of a believer, he really thinks about it and what it could mean.
Feelings realisation with the help of a little girl he’s never personally met
Lance makes merch for Anna and made one of Dot to get back at him
It was funny until it wasn’t, Lance feels like he has to make it look perfect and struggles on how none of the pictures he had does Dot justice. Some of them are goofy in a dorky way, some others are just him being angry, and there are just some that he can’t bring himself to make merch of…
A little bit of feelings realisation, as a treat
And or he can try to get a good photo
Established relationship, Dot and Lance try to keep it low, but their matching earrings/accessories gave it away…
and it’s prequel
Established relationship, the origin of the matching accessories
I HC Lance to show affection through gifts or materialistic means more than Dot (see. His merch collection)
Early in the relationship, a pair of matching accessories catch Lance’s attention. He buys it for himself and Dot to wear together.
Dot was initially a bit bashful but gives in.
Their friends begin to notice this and starts to wonder what’s going on between the two.
There’s a little cut out of Dot in the lower right corner of Lance’s pendant now
RPG AU (based off of light novel/choose your own adventure books 2&3) Dot has his tummy exposed, Lance dotes him on it
On the cover of the 2nd LN/CYOA book, Dot, presumably with the class barbarian, doesn’t have his clothes cover him properly. Being the older brother that he is, Lance dotes on him.
An exposed tummy leaves one with a higher chance of being sick , Lance offers Dot his cape.
Dot is flattered by this but ends up getting sick anyway
Established/Developing relationship: meeting the family
Either Dot brings Lance to meet his family to get semi-interrogated by Malta (Dot’s grandma and mother watch from the sidelines, his grandma is also surprisingly capable of being intimidating)
Or Lance gets Dot to meet Anna, Dot gets seriously interrogated by a 12 year old over tea.
The gang gets an invite to Macaron’s Orchestra when Dot gets to perform as the violinist, Lance is surprised and slightly moved by the music
Dot is good at the violin, of course he should perform.
Lance wasn’t there at the scene where he was playing, so I want him to be the only one slightly surprised at this reveal and very surprised that Dot can actually play well.
Fantasy AU: knights and dragons( Dot is the knight and Lance is the Dragon)
In this fantasy AU, princesses being locked in towers is still something that happens, albeit somewhat rare.
Due to her age and politics of her kingdom, Princess Anna was sent to escape with her brother when their kingdom was under attack. Lance can transform into a dragon because of some potion he took in order to better protect Anna. He keeps her in the tower most of the time for safety, but Anna still gets lonely, so she makes paper airplanes and flies them out to try to find people occasionally (Despite her brother’s disapproval, she does it while he isn’t looking)
Aspiring young knight of a nearby kingdom, who wishes nothing more to find a princess of his own stumbles upon one of these planes (after many attempts to save tower princesses and proposing to girls, royalty or not)
When reaching the tower while Lance was away, it was clear Anna isn’t the princess he’s looking for, but he still plays with her before her brother comes back. (Big scare)
Semi-domestic fluff: Since Anna isn’t the right princess, maybe her brother is ?
Demon AU: Demon Dot and Human Lance
Dot, a demon, accidentally gets summoned when Lance, a human, wanted to summon a guardian Angel for his sister.
With no real return button, Dot’s just stuck there I guess. Lance makes Dot act as Anna’s guardian Angel despite knowing the fact that he’s a demon
(Angels, demons, similar spell; this Demon that he summoned is the best he can get atm, and he technically still has to fulfil his wish of keeping his sister safe. Plus, he’s got some little bits of feathers on his wings, it’s like a discounted Angel at worst)
Other people can see Dot, not his wings, tail or horns though
More details here hehe
(WINGS WINGS WINGS
Hi, I was a Destiel fan , can you tell?)
Excessive use of the Ira Kruez makes Dot ill, team mom Lance is here to help
Sick fic! Using Ira Kruez in the rain causes Dot to have a magical burnout. Lance takes care of him in a sick fic way
Alternatively:
Dot falls from the fucking sky because of a broom mishap, Lance takes care of him with bad pick up lines and more
Mash gets challenged by Lloyd Cavill’s goons and Dot takes up the challenge for his friend. The competition was rigged and a broom mishap happened half way through, leaving Dot badly injured.
Lance is the only one who can take care of him periodically because 1. He’s good with class so he can skip skip sometimes 2. He’s the most capable at take care of people amongst their group of friends.
The bad pick up line part came from “laughter is the best medicine”, it’s advice the others gave to Lance when Dot is still in a magic coma, amongst many other dumb suggestions.
“Did it hurt?”
“Huh??”
“When you fell out of the sky and got a concussion “
A little more display of affection, Dot eating it up.
They are both dumb
Modern AU: Doctor Lance and less successful/ failing musician Dot; And they were roommates
Years after graduation, the gang goes their separate ways. Mash becomes an unconventional cream puff baker, Finn becomes a public servant, Lemon works in her family’s bookshop suspiciously close to Mash’s bakery. Lance works at a high paying job as a successful doctor, and no one really knows what Dot is up to…
A chance meeting after work leads Lance to find out (fuck around, find out)
Lance bumps into Dot at a convenience store. It wasn’t a route he passed by much, so it was a surprise to see the spiky red haired boy there, handing in… something and looking dejected.
Upon meeting Lance’s eyes, Dot hopped over with faux-familiarity and an air of awkwardness when he offered to grab dinner, dragging him by the elbow to leave.
Over some fried rice with a few cups of beer, Dot vents his troubles in finding work after his ambitions to start a band failed; he got kicked out from his last apartment for late rent and his sister is starting to nag him to move out of hers. Lance just pats Dot’s back as he wails shitfaced. In the end, Lance brings Dot home so he can rest.
Naturally, Lance paid for that meal.
In this AU, the gang are all adults, so I HC Anna to be in junior/high school.
Anna obviously would live with Lance. Idk if i should make Anna’s illness a thing in this AU.
The Crown family is middle high class, fairly influential,
Despite Lance’s success, they cut ties with him (homophobia? )
Anyways that my idea
TBC
Spoilers to manga)
Lance has difficulty balancing work as a new DV, Dot offers to help out as his assistant DV
Between Anna, school work and DV work, life has been hard to handle as of late. Shortly after a chat with Orter Madl, unlikely help appears in the form of Dot Barrett!
Dot’s reason for volunteering as his assistant :
It’d look good on his CV
He can spend more time at the Bureau of Magic, maybe the three of them can get lunch tgt more often
It’s a good opportunity to poke fun at Lance
Established relationship: PTSD or nightmares of the final battle
The scene was so all too familiar to him: Lance rushing forward to block the projectiles before he could even react; his warm body slumping down on his as the smell of iron, the liquidy feeling of warm blood seeps through the cape into his palms, now stained red. What if Lance died that day? Why is he always putting himself in danger?
Memories of the final battle twist into nightmares in Dot’s mind
Dot finds a pin with his face on it among the many other Anna pins
Short and sweet, possible sequel to Lance making Dot merch fic idea.
Remember the sea of Anna pins that acted as chain mail for Lance? Imagine Lance changing it every once in a while.
As roommates, Dot might notice something special when Lance leaves his cloak on his bed one day
Lance and Dot buy back to school products for Anna
As a newly enrolled student of Easton Academy, it’s necessary to buy new things to get ready for this brand new school life.
After no one else being willing to go, Lance drags Dot along with him with the promise of treating him to something nice
It turns into a shopping date
Future AU :they get married
They get married and boom Ira kreuz
TBC
*funny thing is that I’ve written the start to some of these already, I’ve just never gotten around to finishing them…

There's a lot I like about Masks: A New Generation, but if I had to pick one single favourite, if you absolutely twisted my arm, I'd probably say 'shifting labels.'
If you're not familiar, Masks is a roleplaying game about teen superheroes, telling stories in the vein of Young Justice, Teen Titans, or Runaways. It's got lots of potential for drama, angst, heroism, and climactic battles against giant robots.
Labels, in the game, determine your character's strengths and weaknesses – a character with high Saviour will be good at protecting innocent bystanders, while one with high Danger is better at beating the villains in a brawl, and so on. The thing is, unlike in a lot of other RPGs, your labels aren't some physical aspect of you, like strength or toughness or even intellect – they're more about how you see yourself. And naturally, that means they can change.
Now, like I said above, Masks is built around teen heroes, and that means one of the big themes of the game is that everyone has their own idea of who you are or who they want you to be, and boy oh boy, will they make that your problem. Villains will tell you they see great potential in you, friends and mentors will tell you all about who you really are inside, regular people in the street will yell at you because they think all superheroes are secret robots, and every time that happens, it can change how your character sees themselves.
Yes, even the 'secret robot' thing.
So whenever someone does that to your character, there's a good chance they will be able to shift your labels, and twist you into a new version of yourself, making you better at some things and worse at others. Sometimes that’s a good thing. Maybe your mentor tells you to be more responsible, and you take that on board and get better at protecting your friends. Maybe a friend tells you how smart you are, and you use that cleverness to see through a villainous scheme.
But life isn’t simple, and sometimes the things your friends say to you can pull you in a different direction than the one you had in mind. You can try and resist, of course, but you might not want to risk it. Yelling at a good friend that they're wrong about you might be bad for the relationship, and as for standing up to a mentor...yikes. On the flipside, the villains probably don't have your best interests at heart, but that doesn't stop them from saying things that boost your ego, things you want to listen to. Do you accept a boost in power, knowing who it’s coming from?
By adding that amount of mechanical weight to these social interactions, Masks encourages some really interesting choices, and opens the door to triumphant moments where your hero throws off everyone else's influence and shouts to the world 'this is who I am!'
And I think that's pretty damn cool.

He awakens in a new Tokyo, a wasteland ravaged by apocalypse now called Da’at… but before bloodthirsty demons can claim his life, a savior emerges, and the two of them unite to become a mighty being, neither human nor demon: a Nahobino.
Revenge Awaits
Demons attack humans and seek to create a world of chaos. Bethel, an organization that seeks to protect God’s order. Caught up in the conflict between the two, while exploring Da’at, the protagonist meets and starts traveling with Yoko Hiromine. Using magic, Yoko and the main character stand together on the front line.

Tumblr media
Consecutive Encounters
After defeating an enemy demon, a new demon may appear and continue the battle. Although it will be a series of battles, winning may generate bonuses in Macca, EXP, and items earned.
The more demons that discover the protagonist, the more likely it is that a serial encounter will occur. It is also a good idea to aim for a large bonus by engaging in combat with enemies that are densely packed together.

Character Designer – Shigenori Soejima (Persona 3, Persona 4, Persona 5)
Composer – Shoji Meguro (Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, Persona 3, Persona 4, Persona 5)
Concept Artist – Koda Kazuma (Notable Work: NieR:Automata)
Mechanical Designer – Ikuto Yamashita (Notable Work: Neon Genesis Evangelion)
Additionally, ATLUS will host a special YouTube live broadcast in Japan (Japanese language only) for the game on December 11 at 8:30pm JST / 3:30am PST, that will feature guests from the Japanese VA cast including Natsuki Hanae as Protagonist, Sumire Morohoshi as Gallica, Kensho Ono as Strohl, and Saori Hayami as Hulkenberg.
Story
Our story takes place in The United Kingdom of Euchronia, where the assassination of the king brings chaos and unrest to the land. Then, one fateful day, a magic known only to the king called the Royal Magic is invoked, and the world becomes embroiled in a royal tournament for the throne. In the midst of this, the protagonist, together with his partner, the fairy Galica, must find a way to break the curse that has been placed on the prince that the kingdom believes to be dead. To do so, they depart on a journey across the vast land. They will discover that in order to achieve their goal, they must participate in the tournament for the throne, and this great task shall require them to ally with many friends and followers of the various tribes inhabiting the world.
Protagonist
Together with the fairy, Galica, he embarks on a journey to lift the deadly curse placed on his childhood friend, the prince of Euchronia. He is a boy of the elda tribe, branded as a “”tainted”” people by the state religion who believe they have inherited dangerous and heretical magic. Being so rare among the populous, they are detested and discriminated against throughout the kingdom.”
Gallica
Not only a traveling companion, Gallica is the guide who helps the protagonist carry out his mission to save the prince. Although she is too small to participate in battles, her knowledge of magic and ability to sense magla is superior to the protagonist due to her fairy nature. She doesn’t mince words, but she is a reassuring ally on his journey.
Strohl
He is a young man of the clemar tribe who meets the protagonist in the recruitment centre for the State Army. A smart young man with a strong sense of justice, he hails from a noble family. And yet, it seems his circumstances are complicated, as it is rare for a noble to enlist in the army alongside commoners.
Hulkenberg
A knight of the roussainte tribe and former member of the royal family’s Kingsguard who served by the prince’s side. Despite her young age, she excelled in the use of various weaponry, and was assigned to the personal guard of the prince. But when the prince was attacked, she failed to protect him and set out to wander, carrying the stigma of this failure in her heart.
Heismay
A former knight of the eugief tribe. He has acute perception compared to most others, due in part to the eugief trait of being sensitive to sound. With an appearance that differs greatly from other tribes, it’s not uncommon for eugiefs to be discriminated against—and it seems Heismay is no exception, his past his own burden to bear.
New Concept Art
Journey through a vast and magnificent fantasy world. Explore the game alongside an intuitive and beautiful UI that elevates the experience. (Get an exciting sneak peek of the look of Metaphor: ReFantazio with new concept art pieces).

Dammit Hedgi Day BEGINS
Tumblr media
Prompts are now OPEN Until the 24th of September I’ll be taking prompts, and as you all voted, beginning on the 23rd (saturday) and continuing till the 25th the EIGHTH anniversary of my first Dammit Hedgi (courtesy of Mosylu on Can’t Live in Dreams, I'll be posting them for your suffering and enjoyment
What prompts am I accepting? Originally an ANGST fest, it can get a bit more broad especially in recent years, so: Many!  I reserve the right to ignore shipping requests and just write gen, DHD is a smut-free zone, and it’s my day so  I will write about characters with my viewpoints so prompt with caution if you like a character i do not :)  you may rig your prompt for fluff, but do not count on it. like I said, Angst. and it's Dammit Hedgi Day, not "awww Hedgi that's so sweeet" day.
Dammit Hedgi started with The Flash, but yeah I quit watching that at season 6 and i don't wanna think about anything past like... season 5 maybe. Send me Flash stuff anyways, but let's stick to the roots. same with young justice (i did NOT watch s4) and of course the LoT and early Supergirl characters live in my heart. Big clinging to Stargirl, though, and I'm currently loving My Adventures With Superman, getting more comfy writing Leverage characters...
Y’all know me, you know my fandoms, and what I’ve been watching so as always, go nuts! Can’t promise I’ll fill it all (last year I had 65! prompts! and did fill them all so...) prompts for my RPG characters, for my shows, for the wild crossover of ur heart (Old Guard/ Flash crossover? why not. Leverage and Shazam? Sure!  Stargirl and the Librarians, heck yeah.) Feel free to send shit in, and I’ll either do it or I won’t, that’s DHD babes. I’ll try, anyways!
New to Dammit Hedgi Day? All I need is a character or two/ fandom and a dialog or narrative prompt!
You can send me a couple characters and an angst prompt from a list like  this one or This one,  Or this ….or  if there’s a whump post out there that grabs at you, you can use that.
You can send me an episode and a character for me to do a reaction fic or introspection, like Jax at the end of White Knight (LOT) or Beth in Stargirl: Summerschool episode 11.
If we've chatted about an Au? send it! if there was a prompt from past years you liked and want More Of? (roundups for 2020 , 2021, 2022) hell yeah!)
canon stuff? post canon? pre canon? for want of a nail because canon is fake? go for it.
Canon suffering!! aus make everything worse!! you can ask for missing moments, or whatifs. We’ve had 7 (good lord you guys) of these now, you know the drill.  go for it.  I may not get to all of them. but I’ll write a lot because  now it’s a challenge! Current aus and hiatus fics are hella open to be extra angsted upon.  Any angst potential posts you’ve seen from me, canon angst that the writers ignore! Prompt away!
HELL YEAH SMORES PARTY IN HELL! WHOOOO!!!! (join the Discord!)

Since the start of Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian authorities have begun integrating ideological and military-themed lessons into school curricula. However, their plans for the upcoming academic year are even more drastic. Children will receive instruction in combat training and learn how to use grenade launchers and automatic weapons, all as part of the required school curriculum. The Russian government has radically revised the list of social sciences, replacing them with militarized or ideological equivalents. Now, instead of economics and law, students will study “traditional values” and the “Russian world.” The independent outlet Holod explained Russia’s new educational model. Meduza shares an abridged version in English.
Russia's educational landscape has experienced significant shifts since the start of the full-scale war. In September 2022, schools across the country rolled out a new class called “Important Conversations,” a state-designed, “patriotic” lesson series meant to bring students’ spiritual and moral values in line with the Russian Federation’s National Security Strategy.
A year later, the Russian authorities supplemented this ideological teaching with military instruction. In addition to things like fire safety and first aid, students began learning “basic military training” in their “Fundamentals of Life Safety” classes. In 10th grade, they learn about the workings of the Kalashnikov assault rifle and “information-psychological warfare.”
Now, the Kremlin is looking to further expand ideological and military teaching in schools. From September 2024, “Fundamentals of Life Safety” will be replaced by something called “Fundamentals of Homeland Security and Defense.” (While related amendments to federal education law were made in July 2023, the program was only officially registered with the Justice Ministry on February 29, 2024.)
A child today, a soldier tomorrow
“Fundamentals of Homeland Security and Defense” (FHSD) is approved for students as young as those in fifth grade, but from eighth grade, the course is mandatory. Among other things, eighth and ninth graders will be taught about the tactical and technical characteristics of the Dragunov sniper rifle, the RPG-7 handheld anti-tank grenade launcher, the Kalashnikov assault rifle, and various hand grenades. Students will also study drill training, general military regulations, “the essence and importance of military discipline,” and “the essence of unified command.”
Instructors are tasked with fostering specific “personal results” in students by the program’s conclusion, including “a responsible attitude toward fulfilling one’s constitutional duty of defending the Fatherland” and “an understanding of the significance of the military oath.”
By ninth grade, students are expected to master skills such as putting on equipment and body armor, “assessing the risks of violating military discipline,” and performing drill exercises. Over the two following years, the program goes even deeper. Tenth and 11th graders will learn the basics of combined arms combat, how to set up a combat unit’s position, and how to use more modern firearms such as the MP-443 Grach pistol and the AK-12 assault rifle.
The FHSD program has between 136 and 238 lessons, depending on the grade level at which it’s introduced. Since schools can independently decide how many hours to allocate for each unit (there are still traditional topics such as disaster preparedness and response), this could add dozens of military lessons to those already required in the “basic military training” block. As a result, a significant portion of the school curriculum will focus on military training and preparing future soldiers for combat.
The Russian authorities plan to tap “special military operation” veterans to help teach the new subject, according to First Deputy Education Minister Alexander Bugaev, who said the ex-soldiers will fill an “invaluable niche [in schools by transferring] their personal experience.”
These veterans will be prepared for their new teaching career at the Vertex Center for Military Patriotic Education at Russia’s Federal State University of Education. After just 36 hours of training, a former soldier can get a document certifying them to teach in schools. In addition to retraining war participants as teachers, the center will organize military games for children. Officially, the university’s vice rector, Alexey Ryabtsev, heads the program, but the actual work is likely to fall to his deputy, Pyotr Ishkov, who served as deputy education minister of the self-proclaimed “Luhansk People’s Republic” in 2022. However, details about the center itself and its educational programs remain scarce.
Integrated ideology
Russian schools are also set to make big changes to core classes. Russia’s Education Ministry has already drafted a law that would replace social studies in sixth through eighth grade with something called “Our Region’s History.” While social studies will still be taught in high school, many Russians leave school after ninth grade to go to trade schools.
Less than half of the topics covered in “Our Region’s History” will actually touch on local history because the course is meant to incorporate topics from an existing discipline, “Fundamentals of the Spiritual and Moral Culture of the Russian Peoples.”
Course topics include: “The Traditional Family,” “Risks and Threats to the Spiritual and Moral Culture of Russia,” “The Russian World,” “Russian Language — the Basis of Russian Culture,” “Spiritual and Moral Values of the Russian People,” “Unity of Values in Russia’s Religions,” “Heroes of the Armed Forces,” and “The Citizen’s Duty to Society.”
Students will still have separate “Important Conversations” classes, but now state ideology will also be integrated into and dispersed across regular subjects.
Previously, ideological subjects could be mostly ignored. While they might influence awards at school, they didn’t have an impact on college admissions. Now that ideology has been added to the core school curriculum, though, related topics will be included on Russia’s college aptitude test, the Unified State Exam (EGE).
Students planning to take the history EGE are now required to know the reasons for “The Revival of the Russian Federation as a World Power,” “The Reunification of Crimea with Russia,” and “The Special Military Operation in Ukraine.” In 2023, only Russia’s annexation of Crimea was included.
In 2024, the list of topics students should know for the EGE in social studies includes things like “The Spiritual Values of Russian Society,” and “The Russian Federation’s State Policy to Counter Extremism.” Neither of these topics was on the exam last year.

RPGs & Writing Projects
Curse of Strahd
I am deep in the muck of planning a Curse of Strahd campaign, having recently been through it as a player. So far, my concept has been mostly based on a few of the Ravenloft novels, plus the absolutely heinous 5e module (many details of which I have been attempting to rewrite), and a deep unrelenting desire to reintroduce Alek Gwilym to the world (so far working with the idea that he will be some kind of ghoul). Bookish ramblings, 5e headaches, and creative solutions are under #Lamour DMs CoS.

Alek Gwilym
It has come to my attention that this blog has become one of the top recommended for #Alek Gwilym. When I first read I, Strahd—which was given to us ver batim as the Tome in the campaign I played—I knew in my heart that this man's death was the true crux of the Barovian tragedy. I became obsessed with solving the mystery of what else had become of him and working to bring him back, because I could conceive of no better way to break a curse which had been sealed with his demise.
I continue to strive to do Alek as much justice as possible.
He deserved better. It can and will be helped.
Strahd/Alek Fanfiction
#Stralek my beloved.
The piece de resistance of my work in this realm—my portfolio, if you will—has been the Vampentine's 2024 Collection which came about through this prompt list. It contains vignettes from several universe concepts (indexed), as well as a fully self-contained 6,693-word idea under the heading "It's all right."
Other (in-progress) works include:
Immortality - In 398 BC, after finally wiping his hands of Leo Dilisnya, Strahd discovers a painter in Vallaki who looks a lot like Alek Gwilym.
Despite Fear - Alek thwarts Strahd's deal with "Death" and the OG team go on campaign to destroy the dark entity once and for all.
Ezra Sunstar
Ezra was the character I played in Curse of Strahd. He was a self-conscious fire genasi roaming Faerûn in disguise before he and a couple of adventurers stumbled into Barovia. He knew very little about his own race or lineage, and hadn't even known his own surname until Madam Eva called him by it. He was enamored with the Vistani, accidentally fell for Ireena, and remained stalwartly determined to prove that Strahd was not a monster but a man under a curse who needed help.
Slowly working through my notes to create a cohesive narrative of Ezra's experiences, which were very therapeutic for me and ultimately went very well, all things considered.
The Tome of Ezra (Anno Viatoris)
A few campaign snippets, art, and other things can be found under #Ezra Sunstar. Currently in the midst of Descent into Avernus as an epilogue/sequel to our CoS campaign, so Ezra's not done yet!

Creative Writing Advice
In college, I studied both creative writing and technical writing, with an emphasis in editing and the publishing industry. I learned enough to know that it's a tough industry to get into commercially, but some of the tricks I've learned have nonetheless been helpful in my private life and hobbies, too.
Creative writing tips will be hosted exclusively on my ko-fi page, but I'll post previews here to let you know when a new one drops. They're over there to encourage you to "take a penny, leave a penny" as it were, but at least the first several advice articles of this nature will be entirely free to read.
About Me
Creative Process
I studied studio arts in high school, and writing in college. Self-taught costume historian. I'm gearing up for the possibility of going back to school for an MFA. I think it would be pretty cool to be a creative writing professor.
I love when people make things. I love craft and story and folklore. I think people should make things they love. I'll reblog things that resonate.
Publications
Check out Wishbone Words, a magazine made by and for disabled creatives. My original short story "Skull Cave" is part of Issue 12!
Coming Soon! - Enchanted Living magazine's Summer 2024 issue will feature another original short story, "Flowers for Hannedy".
Demographics
I'm 29, married, and was only recently diagnosed autistic. Genderqueer (they/them to creatures of authority, but my fellow plebians are invited make it up as you go). I very much enjoy thou/thee/thy/thine second-person singular pronouns.

Wanted » Bart Allen alias Impulse
Tumblr media

The Batkids + video games headcanons
🚫Pro ship/dark content and J*ker/Sl*de apologists dni🚫
Dick:Plays mostly with Kory as a couple's thing. His favorites are Tloz,Animal Crossing and Cooking Mama
Jason:Enjoys them a lot, especially because he loved them in his Robin days too,but does so secretly to keep up his 'cool and edgy' image.Their favorites are Mario,Pokemon,Animal Crossing and indie ones with horror elements(such as Undertale/Deltarune,Sally Face and Night in the Woods).Note:He prefers them over regular horror
Helena:Plays them fairly often and has had thoughts of making one herself. Her favorites are Doom,Tloz and Megaman
Tim:Minecraft is one of his special interest's and hyperfixations and he loves multiplayer games very much because that means him,Bernard and his friends can play together(and he frequently takes the opportunity to have banter with him during it)
Stephanie:Has a very cute and chaotic channel where she does streams of herself playing them and other video game related videos.Petals favorites are the same as Jason's but unlike him, petal is unashamed of it
Cass:Gaming slowly became one of her special interest's when she was introduced to it thanks to spending quality time with Tim which lead to her becoming friends with the rest of Young Justice(closer friends in the case of Kon)and her bond with Duke.Their favorites are anything rhythm, idol and 80s arcade and they make frequent apperances on Stephanie's channel
Duke:Uses gamer slang and convinced Bruce to let him and his siblings have a monthly family game night. His favorites are roguelike rpgs and horror games
Damian:Maya was the one who got them into them and they use them to destress. His favorites are Fornite(cursed but y'all know i'm right),Animal Crossing and dating sims(based off how he's canonically a shoujo fan + he uses inspo from them to flirt with Maps when they get older)
Maps:EVERYTHING is game for her(pun intended)but if you put her on the spot to pick a fave, she'd say it's a three way tie between Professor Layton,Mario and Ddlc. Also her being a gamer is actually canon!!As seen by her frequently making video game references

It's Creator Day on Itch!
That means that 100% of what you pay on itch goes to the creators! Which means I'm going to talk about the TTRPGs you can buy on itch that I've played since the last creator day!
As soon as I read Orbital Blues by Soul Muppet Publishing for the first time, I was like “oh this game is made for me.” If you’ve ever wanted to play a game that emulates space westerns like Cowboy Bebop, this is an excellent one.
Cantrip by Hipólita uses the Belonging Outside Belonging system to tell stories about young witches finding themselves and their powers in a magical academy. Cantrip’s prompts give little peeks into a rich world just begging to be explored.
Not only is Paris Gondo by Kalum from The Rolistes Podcast incredibly easy to pick up and play, it’s also SO funny, starting with the very concept of playing as adventurers who are trying to survive their journey out of a dungeon with as much useful and meaningful stuff as they can carry. I also have to mention that the Miro board for online play is ingenious. I've linked the English version, but it's also available in French.
My friend @wildjayblue wrote a game that feels as though it was written for me specifically. Totally Normal Human Roommates is a game where you and your friends play as totally normal humans. Like the Nocturnal Human, who has a strong bite and hypnotic personality. Or the Hirsute Human, who is weak to moonlight and silver, just like lots of humans are!
Babes in the Wood by World Champ Game Co. is a game that perfectly captures the feeling of watching Over The Garden Wall for the first time, but also makes you feel SO CLEVER for having told such a good, original story by the end of it.
If you’re a sucker for cheesy holiday movies and you want to play a game that lets you compete against your friends to become the protagonist of one, look no further than Hometown Holiday by @kidnickgames. The mechanics are simple but very fun, and the playbooks perfectly emulate the genre.
Do you have a vampire OC and want to put them through a tough night? Do you want to MAKE a vampire OC in order to put them through a rough night? Bloodless by @enniogoes is the game for you! Bloodless uses the Caltrop Core system and I love that the prompts swing from funny to heartbreaking, and I had an absolute blast when I played.
I love Phoenix Wright, so when I heard about Justicar from @dinoberrypress, I HAD to play it. Justicar is one of those games where the setup portion of the game is as fun as watching the whole thing unravel in the in-character portion. The setting can be anything you want, and the collaborative and zero-prep nature of the game makes Justicar unpredictable and hilarious.
I also want to shoutout a few Mausritter adventuring locations I’ve used from Itch! First up is Temple of the Slumbering Orchid by @imsobadatnicknames2. Running this felt like leading my players through a Legend of Zelda dungeon in the best way.
Drained Temple of the Brackish Basin by brstf has such an unusual concept, and my players had a lot of fun exploring the unique creatures and chambers of this temple, including a very fun little hermit crab character.
Tumblr media
I am a huge @mortphilippa stan, so of COURSE I’m going to recommend Tomb of the Slumbering Queen, a creepy, bat-filled Mausritter location. Philippa is the queen of rollable tables (this one features effects from eating strange mushrooms), and her NPC art is charming. While you’re there, make sure to check out Philippa’s other stuff because it’s all good.
I'll wrap up by saying that an added bonus to playing any of these games is that there are REALLY REALLY GOOD one-shots of all of them on YouTube...because I've run them all on stream.
Wait, you're still here?? You're looking for even MORE games to get on itch??? Okay, well check out these two previous threads of game reccs! My 2022 Itch Creator Day thread

Decided to start a sort of a challenge run of Unicorn Overlord, cause I really like the game, but I both sort of found the game too easy on my first playthrough, and I was kinda disappointed that the game just vomits story units to you through the whole thing, so after the early game there's little reason to use hireable randos. Which is a real shame, cause making randos in rpgs rules.
So yeah, this run is on True Zenoira mode, so that's permadeath to all troopers in an unit that falls entirely in battle. And im playing with the following additional restrictions:
Only every using hireable mercs. Any story units must be left at the nearest garrison as soon as possible, or otherwise kept away from combat. Technically this run only starts after the first side mission, the one where you get Rolf, cause only then do you get up to D rank and can actually hire anyone at forts.
No grinding missions. I can do the phantom fight stages, but only once. Makes it so I can't ensure an endless amount of resources.
No going back in saves and if I game over then the run is over. Makes it so I actually gotta value every single soldier I have, and if I lose them it's a big hit to the army as a whole. And this makes corne ashes a massively important resource, since they can actually stop me from game overing if my fort gets captured or I run out of time on a mission.
Story wise, this is the anti royalism run. Prince Alain may be the figurehead, but the snot nosed punk wouldn't in a million years actually step on a battlefield to free Fevrith. This is about the common working men of the liberation army getting it done! Let's meet the crew.
Tumblr media
Germain. A veteran town militiaman. Thought himself too old to fight back against the empire, but after seeing too much of their opression for too long, he had to take a stand. A lot of the common soldiers in the liberation army rally behind him, much to his irriation.
Tumblr media
Florine. A young gal who's lived a good half of her whole life under Zenoiran opression, which has only stoked her want to free her home from it. Very peppy and cheerful, which keeps the moral up when she's around. Kinda thinks of Germain as an uncle of sorts, though no actual relation.
Tumblr media
Guy. A tough and stern man who used to work as a bodyguard for a local lord. Looking for revenge for the said lord, after he was murdered by Zenoiran's for opposing their rule. Rumored to have been lovers with the lord in question.
Tumblr media
Odo. A woodsman who has lived all his life in farthest ass end of a forest. He had no idea that someone had taken over the world, until just recently when he came over to town for some milk for the first time in ten years.
Tumblr media
Nils. Definitely not a Zenoiran spy. No sir.
Tumblr media
Armand. A professional soldier who had accepted the new zenoiran rule initially, but his family was torn apart by the new taxes and unjust laws and such, so he picked the side of the liberation.
Tumblr media
Sébastien. An extremely cowardly and sulky young knight. He kept getting unwanted advances by a Zenoira aligned noblewoman, and when he kept refusing she had him branded as a criminal. To not have to be on the run for the rest of his life, he now reluctantly fights for the liberation.
First actual mission with our army here was the one against Bruno. Went fairly smoothly, although Germaine, Florine and Guys unit got caught offguard at one point, so I had to use a revival orb. Provoke is good at getting archers out of watchtowers, but do it too far and they'll just run right back as it turns out. The importance of archer support became pretty evident right away. No casualties.
Afterwards hired two more soldiers for a dedicated anti cavalry unit.
Tumblr media
Artemisia. A warrior of justice. She won't say anything more about herself.
Tumblr media
Maxim. Comes from a long line of spear guard guys, the types that stand around doorways and cross their spears when someone tries to enter without permission. Zenoira does not use the treasured method of sentry-dom, which is why he and his whole family is rising to action against the empire.
Tumblr media
Ended it here for now. Very fun so far, glad to be thinking much more about resource management, though im sure it will start to grind my gears the bigger the army and fights get.
I'll keep up updates about this... if this gets any engagement, I guess.
