Jason and her remind me of many common main m/f romance tropes-The 'hotheaded girl x levelheaded boy' classic,tall girlfriend and slighter taller boyfriend,contrasting in a complimentary way powers,iirc it being obvious to everyone they instantly liked eachother(feel free to correct me and i'll remove this),Team Parents to the babies of the cast and 'Sweet Sixteen' joke since Percy met her first boyfriend at that age.Worth noting that this would make Percy Jason's best friend who's a girl and that he broke with Piper because their feelings for eachother were shallow and their dating dynamic was too by extent

Similarly,Percy and Annabeth fall under the 'dark haired female protagonist and her tomboy blonde best friend' trope that was so popular 2000s/2010s

More so motifs i think work well than evidence but sea related things are usually associated with femininity-Calling ships 'she',mermaids,pearl jewelry,the moon controlling the tides,the term 'Beach Bunny',etc

Her random reinforments of her 'manhood' are very inconsistent with the rest of her personality and we're given no indication Sally raised her on gender roles so it's less Percy being Percy and more Rick being a cis man

Rick also agreed with the headcanon she loves Led Zepplin so i googled to find out if they were lgbt and they weren't but what i learned was enough to let me know they're a hit with lgbt people for a reason

Again,just my own take,but i feel her being pastel and kidcore is more fitting than any other interests and style for her in addition to her being canonically punk and they're both in-character for her since she's got a positive opinion on girly girls and the second one is an excellent coping mechanism for constant childhood trauma

She's at most in-character,well-written and realistic when she just lets herself be instead of trying to be what everyone wants her to and to be brutally honest,this includes the fandom.She's a femme trans woman and i'm right

I'm currently writing a thesis on how the situation of Jewish women and men differed during Holocaust and I've found your speech: 'Girls with Guns, Woman Commanders, and Unheeded Warnings: Women and the Holocaust' to be an amazing starting point. First of all, thank you SO MUCH for your kind words about that piece. For anyone who doesn't know which piece we're referring to, it's this one.

So just so we're all on the same page, I'm going to approach this question like you're an upper level undergrad History major and I'm the graduate teaching assistant in charge of guiding you through this research planning process. So, before I start to give you names and titles, I'm going to pose some questions for you to consider: which European Jews are you writing about? Eastern European? Western European? Southern European? Ashkenazic? Sephardic? Polish? Greek? Dutch? Religious? Hasidic? Secular? Factory-owning class? Working class? Because gendered experiences of and responses to the Holocaust will also be shaped by nationality, religiosity, class, and region.

When you've chosen your region/niche/group, I'd recommend starting at least 100 years before the Holocaust. Like, when I was writing about German Jewish female refugees in Shanghai for my MA thesis, to understand their behavior and responses, I had to start in the 1800s to get a better idea of the historical experience, trajectory, and socialization of German Jewish women.

The post you're referring to was more about memory and its silences than it was about a specific group, so the sources for that are extremely general. Since you're still determining your scope, I'm going to give you some names of historians whose bibliographies you should explore yesterday:

Okay here is the general outlining of my Vera and Slayer are both transgender women headcanon:

Vera realised that she's transgender at a fairly young age and with the full support of her dad socially + medically transitioned. Most people at spooky high more or forget that she's trans, or never knew in the first place. The slayer is still yet to realise she's transgender aged 16 - she knows something's up, and it's bothering her (dysphoria debuff is NOT good for any of your stats).

The slayer is experimenting with her gender presentation at one point, maybe she got some rare loot that's a skirt or something and she's wearing it to do something and justifying it to herself as if she has a powerful item she's going to use it. Vera somehow stumbles upon this and accepts the slayers hastily and preemptively given explanation. Weird antisocial guy she knows from school doing something not socially acceptable for contrived reason doesn't particularly stand out to her. Slayer feels ashamed and stops using the item. Further, she feels like she's being rude to Vera for being ashamed when Vera was extremely normal about the whole thing and avoids her because of it.

The slayer tries to repress her feelings (because of course she does lol) but it shows through occasionally only in private. She doesn't really have anyone to share it with, but she occasionally presents herself as a woman under a different name (aaravi!) when she accepts quests she deems to be far enough away from anyone she knows. She takes on particularly reckless quests during this time. Vera, meanwhile, is developing her entrepreneurial ambitions but is grappling with her struggles about not being good enough. Her need to be the best in the game leads to her developing her criminal empire. For one job, she ends up hiring the slayer as Aaravi and neither of them realise until they meet when the slayer is collecting payment. Vera clocks on to what's going on and asks aaravi about it, aaravi has a breakdown. Vera helps her through it. Has to come out during this. Aaravi is like holy shit I didn't know you were transgender - Zoe keeps saying she's the first trans girl at school. Vera's like "I know 🙄" Vera offers to help aaravi with like, trans + girl stuff. Aaravi accepts.

Vera starts helping Ravi with her transition after school, helping her find clothes that fit, starting hrt (which aaravi insists on crafting from raw materials), teaching her how to do makeup. Ravi throws herself full force into this, trying to be and act like Vera when she's being Aaravi, and Vera encourages this because it's how things worked out for her. Lots of dresses, heavy makeup to help with dysphoria around facial hair etc. Initially it's very good for Ravi, and she starts to come out in more contexts, but over time she starts to feel like something isn't quite right again, which she desperately tries to ignore - throwing herself back into doing dangerous quests. Vera picks up on this, but she isn't sure how to help - she ramps up giving Ravi advice and being complimenting her but because Ravi doesn't feel right this just makes her feel bad and she doesn't know why. She blows up at Vera and even though she feels bad about it doesn't know how to apologise and so doesn't. They stop talking.

Vera goes back to feeling very alone due to not knowing other trans people who know that she is trans also. She misses aaravi a lot but is also mad at her so she, like aaravi, doesn't do anything about it. Goes back to focusing on business but it sucks and she just feels she has to prove herself more and more.

One of the dangerous quests aaravi is on causes her to meet dahlia while fighting in hell. They strike up a rapport quickly, having regular girls nights where they both try too hard to do "girl stuff" but it inevitably becomes them just dicking around. They both slowly start giving up on that element of girls night and those things in their life more generally at the same time. As a result, Ravi starts feeling more comfortable being a masculine woman.

Vera is noticing Ravis masculinity at school, and is worried Ravi is backsliding into being closeted. Eventually, she realises she needs to start talking to Ravi again for her own sake and her worry for her lets her push herself to action. She texts her, asking her about if she's okay and she's noticed the way she's dressed and is worried she's not comfortable being out anymore, is something happening at home or something? Ravi is initially pissed at this because she's feeling more comfortable as a woman than she has before, but she's more in touch with her emotions and empathy now and is able to realise that Vera was trying to be kind. They meet up, and talk things over, and Vera realises that pushing her to be feminine was the wrong thing to do and apologizes - Ravi denies that the apology is necessary and thanks Vera for giving her the push she needed to start on the path to being where she is, and apologizes for blowing up at her and not talking for ages. They agree to start hanging out again and get on great, Vera is happy having community again and Ravi is happy in herself, and they are both happy to have a friend back. Also dahlia is there sometimes the end

Zoe Leonard - 'I Want a President' (1992)

“I want a dyke for president…” form the opening lines for the battalion of critical incisiveness and queer radical spirit that is Zoe Leonard’s 1992 piece ‘I Want a President’. Surging forth into the American public realm following the fatal negligence of Reagan’s administration during the AIDS epidemic and the next presidential election run-up, ‘I Want A President’ dared to interrogate the fundamental denial of marginalised bodies, minds and experiences in the political arena. Constituting a poignant position in the broader visual languages of AIDS activism and queer resistance, ‘I Want A President’ broke ground in inspiring and furthering a critical modality of hope. Its impassioned sentences at once demand empathy and humanity from authoritative figures. Leonard’s statements queer the metrics of power that vehemently deny those outside of cis-heteropatriarchal society by providing currency in promoting otherwise silenced voices, and reestablishing their lived experiences as ethically fundamental in the articulation and implementation of policies that account for real citizens.

Functioning as a key catalyst for ‘I Want A President’, Leonard was inspired by the dynamism of fellow lesbian poet and artist Eileen Myles’ presidential bid in the 1991-1992 presidential election, alongside Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Ross Perot. Myles herself charged up by Bush’s lamentations of “the politically correct” (which implied an intended diminution of the voices of women, people of colour and LGBTQ+ critiquing hegemonic political assertions) in his commencement address galvanised an intellectual juncture that scrutinised the supposed impossibility of an openly female, openly queer president in the mainstream American consciousness. Acting in symbiosis to Myles’ work and presidential candidacy, Leonard was (and remains) a prominent and active member of queer activist collectives like Fierce Pussy, and her political praxis and astute artistic sensibilities informed the dissemination and distribution of ‘I Want A President’. Formerly intended to be a statement for an underground LGBTQ+ publication, the piece was printed as a Xerox document and circulated amongst Leonard’s friends, wider queer social circles and activist cohorts. It rapidly rumbled outwards into the wider public space, levying a challenge to the unfeeling political elite through progressive prose that illuminated the standpoints of those most denigrated in American ideology and dogma.

Spanning experiences of targeted violence, poverty, and disenfranchisement, the rhythmic structure of ‘I Want A President’ is arresting in its unflinching engagement with state-enabled trauma interwoven with empathic sentences expressing solidarity with those who continue to survive despite the odds. Grappling with legacies of lethal indifference in institutional engagement with the AIDS crisis, environmental damage bolstered by social inequalities, and sustained acts of gender-motivated attacks, Leonard’s calls and aspirations for a feeling, loving and reflexive leader remain tantamount in the contemporary era. The concluding lines “Always a boss and never a worker, always a liar, always a thief and never caught” is deeply evocative as a searing indictment against acts of blatant corruption and incitement of destructive community tensions by political elites able to evade culpability through immense social privileges. ‘I Want A President’ and its power lies in its calibration of empathy as a lightning rod for action, to make the yearning for difference not a mawkish instinct, but a place of generative resistance against political systems that seek to elicit apathy from sustained deprecation of those who fall outside of the power lines on the basis of race, gender, sexuality, class, ability and beyond.

‘I Want A President’ continues to have vibrant reverberations in contemporary political and queer counterculture. In 2016, it was erected under Manhattan’s High Line, a New York park built upon a disused elevated railway, proclaiming its moving and robust prose to a new public audience in the run-up to the 2016 election which devastatingly saw in the presidency of Donald Trump, reminding us all too much of what ‘I Want A President’ advocates against. Leonard’s powerful work continues to garner creative inspiration amongst queer artists, notably being read by queer rapper and artist Mykki Blanco, directed as part of a film by Adinah Dancyger in 2016, providing a reading that was passionate, imbued with immense political frustration that made its words all the more visceral in the face of Trump’s eventual inauguration. In 2018, the piece was reprinted with 100 copies and distributed in aid of the Treatment Action Group, a community-based think tank producing bold, advancing research into AIDS/HIV and other conditions in the pursuit of LGBTQ+, gender and racial liberation. The timelessness and transience of ‘I Want A President’ is made clear in its sustained relevance in the fluctuations in the national political milieu, demonstrating its significance as a queer cultural artefact that inspires fights for justice across multiple social intersections.

Leonard continues to enjoy a lustrous artistic career, and is now represented by the Hauser & Wirth gallery, where ‘I Want A President’ was celebrated and honoured for its cultural impact and staying power. Translating the piece’s deep insights and challenges against discriminatory political dominance in the British context, one can foster ‘I Want A President’ in expressing their disavowal of political acts devoid of empathy and basic human respect. Namely the state hatred of trans and genderqueer people in the name of political point-scoring, the loathsome class stigmatisation of current prime minister Rishi Sunak in his boasting of defunding what he deemed ‘deprived’ urban areas and the skyrocketing levels of financial precarity and homelessness under a fractious economic system. Leonard’s ruminations and desires in ‘I Want A President’ remain emblematic of the potency of queer activism and eternally vital, in demanding better representation, for politicians that care, that feel, that emote, that dare to think holistically beyond the sinister motivator of unbridled capitalistic power.

i heard from the heavens

summary: (Y/N) saves Sasha from the brink of death, and Armin crumbles into a million shards in her embrace.

(part of the sidelines series, oneshot, alternate universe - canon divergence, hurt/comfort, fluff & angst, possible medical inaccuracies {i dont work in the paramedic field so im not 100% sure on proper procedures and protocols, i just used what little knowledge i do have lmao}, gender-neutral hange zoe, listened to 'hold my hand' by lady gaga whilst writing this lol)

content warnings: guns, gunshots wounds, blood, near death experiences, needles, medications, medical jargon, mentions of hurting children

Jean burst through the door, his face drained of all colour.

“(Y/N), we need you now! Sasha’s been shot! ”

Her heart stopped for a second before she regained composure, her body feeling as if it had been drained of all blood.

“Get me the crash trolley!” she yelled at Artemis, who frantically ran to the back room.

(Y/N) shot up like a whippet, bounding into the back of the airship, Mikasa and Armin following behind her.

The scene before was something from a horror film.

Sasha laid on the floor in a pool of her own blood, Connie bent over her, holding her face, desperately trying to keep her awake. There was a crowd of men in the corner, shouting and screaming, kicking and hitting. It took a second for (Y/N) to see what they were exuding all their energy on, the crowd parting for a fraction of a second to reveal two children huddled into the corner, one holding a gun.

“Stop it, now! ” (Y/N) roared at them. “They’re children, just arrest them, for fuck sake!” Her blood boiled at the sight of a hoard of grown men beating children, whether they were killers or not.

It’s not their fault that they’re brainwashed, trained to be killers of an enemy they didn’t even know.

She crouched down next to Sasha, gently cupping her face.

“My my, Sasha, what have you gotten yourself into?” (Y/N) half-joked, trying to keep the brunette from panicking. Sasha let out a small breath in response.

Not a good sign.

(Y/N) began assessing the wound, looking for the entry point. Artemis barged in with the red metal trolley, immediately throwing gauze onto the floor for (Y/N). (Y/N) pulled on a pair of gloves before attempting to take a better look at the wound.

“Get me some towels!” she commanded, Jean instantly scrambling to oblige her command. When he returned, she took them from his hands, gently blotting at the excess blood.

Abdominal gunshot wounds were critical, she had to act as quickly as possible.

“Help me sit her up.” (Y/N) said, Artemis coming to Sasha’s other side to help her sit up with her back against the wall.

“You’re gonna be okay, alright honey? We’re gonna fix you up.” (Y/N) soothed. Artemis held Sasha steady as (Y/N) applied an occlusive dressing, wrapping it tight around her with some bandages.

“Jean, take over from Artemis.” He nodded in response and crouched next to Sasha, holding her up against the wall.

Mikasa and Armin were a sobbing mess, watching the scene unfold before them through bleary vision. Connie slumped to the floor, completely silent in his grief.

“Artemis, I need a tourniquet, cannula, a bag of 10mg IV morphine and a bag of 0.9% isotonic IV fluids.” (Y/N) took a pair of scissors and cut the sleeve on Sasha’s shirt, granting her access to the skin on the inside of her elbow. Artemis practically threw her the tourniquet, (Y/N) wrapping it just above her elbow before prodding at the skin, desperately searching for an adequate vein. Sasha was blessed with good veins, blue protruding from her paling skin, and (Y/N) thanked whatever gods may be out there. She pushed the cannula into her arm, Sasha hissing at the sensation. “I know darling, I’m sorry, I just need to give you some painkillers and some fluids.” she soothed, completely focused on attaching the IV bags to her cannula.

“Radio.” she requested, Artemis pulling the radio from her pocket and handing it to (Y/N).

“Calling Trost hospital, I have a medical emergency, over.” she spoke into the radio, her eyes flicking over the Brunette as she pulled a torch from her pocket. “Sasha, I’m going to shine this torch in your eyes, just keep looking ahead for me as best you can, okay honey?” Sasha nodded weakly in reply.

“Patient status? Over.” a voice buzzed back from the radio.

“Nineteen year old Eldian female with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, occlusive gauze applied, 10 mg/ml of IV morphine and 0.9% isotonic fluids administered. Normal observations shall now commence, over.”

“Ambulance will be prepared upon arrival, over.” the radio answered.

“Roger.” (Y/N) replied into the small, plastic device.

Artemis dashed off to get an OBS machine, Sasha relaxing against the wall.

“It’s too loud in here…” she murmured weakly.

“I know darling, it’s going to be okay.” (Y/N) soothed, offering the brunette a soft smile.

Artemis ran back in with an OBS machine, hooking up the wires to Sasha’s arms and hands. The machine whirred as the blood pressure cuff swelled with air, causing Sasha to wince. (Y/N)’s eyes flickered over the screen, breathing a sigh upon seeing the results.

She held the radio to her lips. “Figures. Heart rate is 34, SATS 85, blood pressure is 75 over 40. Over”

“Is that good?!” Connie asked, his voice laced with hope.

“The best we can ask for.” (Y/N) confirmed, stroking Sasha’s hair from her face, tucking it behind her ear. A heavy collective sigh was released by those in the room.

“Roger. Let us know of any status changes. Over.”

“Roger, out.” (Y/N) replied before breathing a heavy sigh.

Commander Hange pushed open the door, taking in the scene displayed in front of them. “We have 30 minutes until landing. How is she?” they asked, striding over to where Sasha was sat on the floor.

“Stable.” (Y/N) replied, looking up to the brunette. “We have an ambulance prepared for her upon landing.”

They simply nodded in response and retreated back into the front of the airship.

“Jean!” a voice called, causing everyone to turn their attention towards the source.

“These two got aboard using Lobov’s vertical manoeuvre gear. I’m going to toss them overboard. No objections, right?”

(Y/N)’s heart seared with rage, eyes widening at how the redhead could even begin to comprehend such a deplorable suggestion. “You have to be fucking kidding me?!” she roared.

Jean slammed his fists against the wall, resting his forehead against the wood, lips pulled back in a grimace.

“Is throwing some kids off an airship… going to end this bloodshed?” he murmured, his voice strained, laced with frustration and pain.

(Y/N) looked away, unable to take in the scene before her. She instead focused all her energy on Sasha. Artemis brought her a damp towel, (Y/N) wiping it over Sasha’s face, cleaning the blood from her skin. Sasha smiled slightly at the comforting sensation, her eyes closed, head laid back against the wall.

(Y/N) smiled back at her. “Sasha, keep your eyes open for me honey. Can’t have you going to sleep yet.”

“I feel… like I’m floating…” Sasha whispered, her eyes glazed over in bliss. (Y/N)’s heart stopped for a second, her eyes flickering to the OBS machine before returning to the brunette. “Morphine does that to you…” she chuckled lightly, hoping that it was in fact the morphine causing her serene state and not her body failing on her.

The next 30 minutes felt like a lifetime. Time dragged itself along, seconds feeling like years. When they finally landed, Artemis and (Y/N) transferred Sasha onto a hospital bed with the help of the paramedics. As the paramedics rushed Sasha into the ambulance, (Y/N) gave the doctor a run down on Sasha’s current condition and her state of injuries. She went to follow the doctor towards the ambulance, however he stopped her, holding a hand out in front of her.

“(Y/N), get some rest. You’re covered in blood, you’re exhausted, and I’m sure you haven’t eaten nearly as much as you need to. I’ll take it from here.”

She scoffed lightly, going to push past the man stood in front of her. “I’m fine-”

“(Y/N).” he commanded, grabbing her arm. “Go. Home.”

She huffed a sigh, looking at the ground beneath her. “What is it you always say to us?” She pursed her lips before replying. “You can’t properly take care of your patients if you don’t take care of yourself first, I know, I know.”

“Yes. And that applies to you as well.” He gave her a kind smile, releasing her arm.

She returned his smile. “Thank you, Nate. Please keep me updated if anything changes.”

“I will.” he said before turning to join the paramedics in the ambulance.

Just as she was about to turn around and walk away, she shouted back at him. “And if you don’t give her the best care possible, I’ll come back and I’ll beat your arse!” she shouted with a giggle.

Nate just laughed and waved her off before shutting the ambulance doors behind him.

She stood for a second, watching the vehicle speed away before breathing a weighted sigh, rubbing her face with her still gloved hand, wiping semi-dried crimson on her face. She pulled her hand back and grimaced. “That’s a hygiene violation right there.” she chuckled to herself before pulling the gloves off her dainty hands and pocketing them.

All of a sudden she was encased with a tight embrace, the force nearly knocking her to the ground. She looked up to see Connie, clutching her petite frame with a death grip, tears flooding from his eyes.

“Thank you so much!” he wailed, and (Y/N) smiled, gently returning his embrace.

“Don’t thank me, Connie. It’s what I’m here for.” she soothed.

The pair stood like that for a while, Connie wailing into her shoulder, soaking her tunic with his tears, (Y/N) returning his embrace and rubbing his back in an attempt to comfort his overwhelming emotions.

She laid on her bed, still in her blood-covered tunic, her hair a dishevelled mess, heavy bags hanging under her eyes. Breathing a sigh, a knock at the door stirred her from her daydreams, a golden halo and aquamarine eyes greeting her as the door opened.

She smiled, “Hi, Armin.” Her voice was weak and strained.

“Hello, angel.” he whispered, walking over to her. Her heart skipped a beat at the pet name.

“How are you feeling?” she asked, placing her hand on his thigh as he sat beside her.

“...As okay as I can be.” he replied with a sad smile, brushing her hair from her forehead, gently cupping her cheek in his palm.

She knew that look. The sorrow in his eyes.

She knew the toll the war was taking him. Knew how much it obliterated his heart to have to crush an entire port to smithereens, killing hundreds of innocents he didn’t even know in the name of freedom. She knew it killed him as well, rotting him from the inside out.

Armin’s grief was quiet and reticent, silent and all consuming. He didn’t shout or scream, he wrapped it up within himself and saved it for when he was alone, decaying in his organs until there was nothing left.

She sat up, pulling him into a tight embrace, her hand flying to the back of his head to stroke his blonde locks gently. She heard his breath hitch as he snaked his arms around her waist.

“I know…” she soothed. “I know, and I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, Armin. I know you never asked for this burden.”

He nuzzled his face into her neck, tears burning his eyes. She rubbed soft circles into his back with her other hand, placing a soft kiss atop the crown of his scalp.

“I can’t do this anymore, (Y/N)…” he whispered, his breathing quickening in pace as he tried to control his emotions.

“I know, darling. I know. But I’m here, I’m with you. I’ll always be with you…”

There they sat, perched atop her bed, a god of destruction and death clutching onto a goddess of love and healing. The juxtaposition was almost laughable, but that made it all the more soul crushing. Opposites coming together and bleeding into each other, singing a bittersweet symphony of equity and harmony, balancing each other on the precipice of a steep cliff.

“This won’t be forever, Armin. It’s just now. And we’ll get through it together.”

Her words earned a harsh sob from the blonde as he let go, his emotions overwhelming and consuming him. She just sat there, holding him as he crumbled into dust before her.

“Let it all out, angel. It’s okay.” She rested her cheek on his head. “I know you’re scared, I know you’re in pain. But everything will be okay. Even heaven has clouds of grey sometimes.”

Bonus!

I finally bit the bullet and did an updated group photo for gen 3 because I wanted to replace the header I have for this account right now. I'm still stuck on what to do for a profile picture, but I'll figure it out eventually I guess. When planning out the posing for this, I was inspired by @duggardata to do some info points for my sims, so I'm going to be doing some basic and random facts about these little bunches of pixels to end the year. This ended up being a mini thesis, so grab a snack if you plan on scrolling down, and I'll put the post under the cut to save your scrolling the TL. When I started this it was meant to be a small cute post with random information, and has now become an actual analysis. If I've missed anything or if i find more that I can talk about, there definitely can be more of these later down the line.

This is all 36 people that make up the 3rd generation. I've arranged them in birth order, so this is technically chronological I guess. I did mess up when I got to the end because I forgot about Ashton (Allan & Casandra's 13th - the irony 😂) and plopped her further down than she should be.

Basics

Out of the 36 :-

Men: 17

The split between men and women is 49/51 (don't quote me on my maths, I dropped maths classes as soon as I was able to 😂) Within the siblings groups it's definitely not as even, though the final results even themselves out. Gender roles are heavily enforced in these households, so ones that are female heavy (Allan and Casandra's 8 girls to 5 boys) compared to those that are male heavy (Claire and Ryan's 6 boys to 4 girls) will have different experiences. Having girls being born earlier in the birth order definitely helps lighten the load when there's a new children every other year.

Marriage

Marriage is definitely a stage of life that fundies emphasise for their kids, with purity culture pushing for them to be married as soon as possible to (A) prevent sin and (B) produce children as fast as possible. Of course, there's those for whom marriage doesn't happen at the desired time, but in times like this the advice is to wait "on the Lord's timing".

For those eligible for marriage out of the 36:

21 are married

1 is engaged

1 is in a courtship

The average age for marriage is 22. The youngest age being 18 (Maggie, Reece, Priscilla) and the oldest being 29 (Abbey)

I don't have exact data for the courtships so I can't do an average, but I can say the longest relationship prior to engagement was Abbey and Adam's - they dated for two years before getting engaged.

Speaking of dating, fundies and many other conservative christians push courting rather than dating. They reason that it's more serious and with the purpose of marriage, and if you add in purity culture there's the argument that they're saving 'pieces of their heart' for their future spouse. Out of the 23 couples who are either married or on their way there, only 2 couples kissed before marriage: Abbey & Adam and Brittany & Colton. These two couples weren't held to as strict standards as their cousins due to their parents outlook on things, they already knew that their daughters didn't personally agree with the convictions on purity (plus with brittany marrying into a well known political family, they saw it as a means to an end 😂) The other 19 couples (soon to be 20) saved their first kiss for the altar, as will the one courting couple (Zachary & Kelsey). Only 3 couples had no touch courtships the whole way through (and this number is debatable because I myself couldn't keep a storyline straight hehe - but from the character personalities and different plotlines let's agree with 3): Reece & Stacie, Alan & Tessa, and Tanner & Tabitha. In all 3 cases it was the girls family that set the stricter rules, which is more common as girls are engineered to guard their purity.

As if common with real life fundies, the older the kids get the faster they get in courtships that end in marriage. This is one of that things that you can't really predict since people's stories are different, Adalynn was the first one to get married 13 years ago, and the next family wedding was Barrett's 3 years later. In the first 9 years since the 3rd generation started getting married, 8 couples were married. The beginning of the next decade is when things started to happen in a flurry, 5 couples got married with four of them having their first child in the same year (this wont make sense, but if i try to make it fit real world parameters i'll acc go insane HAHA - this is fictional so it's allowed not to make sense) The most couples to get married in a year is 7 couples, and with the 13 left I doubt that there will be the same back to back that was happening earlier. The girls have gotten married faster than the boys, but that was to be expected when you consider that gender roles play heavily into fundie culture. It's easier to marry off a daughter to be a wife and mother than having to marry of a son, she will be provided for but he needs to be in the place where he can provide for a family that has the potential to grow exponentially. Obviously because this is a game where reality is suspended, the men in the game don't have to do much to be providers.

Education

Education is important as it shapes a person's thoughts and opinions, therefore fundies are more than likely to homeschool their children so that they are in control of what their child is exposed to. For those who think total at home education isn't where the Lord is leading them, there are other options available such as a homeschool co-op and private christian schools, with the last resort being the public education system.

The 2nd generation are quite diverse with their belief systems, influencing their thoughts and opinions around how they educated their children - and let's be honest, finances do play a certain role here whether you like it or not.

Allan & Casandra - Casandra totally homeschooled all 13 of their children through K-12.

Branden & Lea - Lea homeschooled their 3 children from kindergarten through to grade 8, and for high school the kids attended a private christian school.

Claire and Ryan - Claire totally homeschooled/currently homeschools their 10 children.

Danielle and Sebastian - Danielle totally homeschooled/homeschools their two children.

Elaine and Taylor - Elaine homeschooled/homeschools their 5 children through a homeschool co-op that she taught at prior to having children. The kids are educated by various teachers that specialise in different subjects using an approved curriculum.

Fletcher and Cara - They've chosen to send their son to a private christian K-12 school.

Grayson and Keira - Keira homeschools the kids until they're in grade 8, then they send the kids to a private christian school for high school.

When it comes to university, fundies definitely don't push it onto their children as they see it as a place where they'd be brainwashed. As the times have changed, there have been more and more conservative christian universities that have opened up that cater to fundies, so there are more fundies getting a tertiary education.

Right now there are only 8 out of the 36 sims that have gotten degrees or are actively pursuing them:

Beckett - He's the only one of his siblings to attach themselves to a university, even if his degree was in Bible & Missions at a very conservative bible college. His siblings' skill sets are either self taught or they were mentored by someone, though his sister Amira is doing an associates degree at some point (I just haven't figured out in what yet).

Abbey - She has an distinguished degree in biology and currently works as a marine biologist. I sent her and her sister to the in game university and physically sent them to classes and everything (which is something I'm never doing again HAHA). Back then I also didn't have the thought to send them to a christian university, so let's pretend she just skipped everything evolutionary for her degree.

Brittany - She has a distinguished degree in communications and worked as a political commentator before getting married. She and her sister were the first girls to go to university from their cohort (as well as the first to not be homeschooled), especially since they're in the first phase of the 3rd generation when the 'vibe' in their extended family was very conservative.

Tanner - He has his MD and is now working as a doctor (using the in-game university mechanics) he was also the first boy to attend a secular university, but there obviously weren't as many opinions on him doing it than on his sisters doing it.

James - He has his degree in Bible Counselling with a focus on Youth and Ministry from a local bible college in his area. It was a two year degree to help create missionaries that could be sent out to help churches. He met his wife whilst at university and they married as soon as they graduated, they now live in henley on Bagley as missionaries assigned to help grow a church there. His sister Gabriella doesn't know what she wants to do (i also have no clue), so that will be revealed in due time.

Kyra - She got her degree in early education and is now a kindergarten teacher at a private christian school, she even met her husband at the school through his niblings. Her mother (Elaine) being a teacher and her father also being college educated was definitely an inspiration to her. Being educated in a homeschool co-op also helped her realise her love of teaching.

Rory - Rory is currently at a local university getting a law degree (for my game i'm using a mix of education systems, incase you get confused) and is currently enjoying it. He initially wanted to join the police force like his uncle and cousin, but decided on enrolling in university instead. His parent's are encouraging him down the political route, but with a law degree he can do anything.

Ruby Rae - She's currently in nursing school and is enjoying learning the curriculum. In my head she's always been that character that I'd send off to nursing school, especially with her uncle marrying a nurse, it just felt meant to be for her character. I initially envisioned one of allan and casandra's girls maybe going to nursing school too, but in the end it didn't pan out.

The only ones I can say are definitely attending college in some form are James Lee (Fletcher), Matthew and Archie (Grayson). They'll be like their parents and go to fairly conservative universities and go on to live your average fundie-lite conservative life.

Children

CW: There will be mentions of pregnancy, problems with getting and staying pregnant, pregnancy loss, and infertility of various kinds.

Fundies think of children as gifts from God, with many taking that ideology and running with it, usually ending up with children in the double digits if their fertility agrees with it. The notion of being 'quiverfull' implies that a couple don't use any methods of contraception, with the idea that if God wants them to have a child then they will conceive and birth one. 6 couples of the 2nd generation (Allan to Elaine, then Grayson) were all open to whatever kids the Lord would give them, and they ended up with a variety of children - one couple having 13 and another having just 2. Life throws various curveballs, or as they say "the Lord works in mysterious ways", so there can be many plans that don't work out - let's not forget that people's fertility isn't always textbook. Casandra had 2 miscarriages that I didn't plan in game, the mod I have gets triggered by certain conditions and the alert was a surprise to me. I don't roll for pregnancy losses, unless difficulties getting and/or staying pregnant are part of that character's story for whatever reason e.g. Madelynn, Stacie, etc.

Out of the 21 married couples, only 4 don't have children: Abbey & Adam, Beckett & Mandy, James & Emma, and the newlyweds Parker and Lana.

Abbey and Adam - They're not quiverfull so they've got a timeline for when they'll have children, but they definitely want them.

Beckett and Mandy - They've been married for around 4 years and have not yet had children, they're marked as a quiverfull couple so they're not preventing pregnancy, there's just no children as of yet. Honestly speaking, I haven't thought that far about the ways that children appear in their storyline but I have 3-4 options about where things could go.

James and Emma - These two are in the same boat as Beckett and Mandy in terms of their views on children, they want them but haven't 'been blessed' with them yet. In the actual game they're side characters, so I let the 'Neighbourhood Stories' take over their story unless I see it necessary to intervene.

Parker and Lana - They're newlyweds, so there could be a pregnancy announcement from them any day now. Though I have taken real life parameters into consideration with how fast a couple does conceive, since in real life it can take the average 'healthy' couple up to a year to get pregnant. So you'll just have to wait and see when Lana will be posting a sonogram 😂

Of the 17 couples that have children, they have birthed a whopping 50 children that make up the ever growing 4th generation. There are currently only 2 pregnant women that are gestating 3 children, which is I think the lowest to ever happen by holiday season. The speed at which they have children has definitely sped up the more couples get married. When Adalynn got married in 2010, she had cousins still being born, so for the first five years (2010 - 2015) the 10 grandchildren that were born came from her, Barrett, and Valentina (let's not forget that Kyleigh had triplets then twins back to back, so she went from zero to five children in 3 years)

The 10 children born in the 4 years after that are from Adalynn, Barrett, Carter, Valentina, and Brittany. The next 3 years (2020-2023; i use years to count so i don't get lost, but I make it a point not to mention years in the posts cause that adds opportunities for confusion 😂) were a wedding and baby boom, bringing us to the present day. 2020 had 5 couples marry and birth four children, 2021 holds the record for the most weddings and the most children born: 7 couples married and there were 12 children born. 2023 isn't finished in the game, but so far there has been 1 couple married with another set to marry at the end of the year. So far in 2023 there have been 5 children born, and the pregnancies that are in game aren't set to give birth this year so that's the number for that year.

With all these births happening in waves essentially, how fast are these sims multiplying? In true duggardata fashion I've got the intervals ready for you:

Adalynn & Mason - 9 children in 13 years of marriage: 7 singletons and 1 pair of twins, 8 boys and 1 girl.

Skills

Fundies are known to have their kids learn a skills, usually in the form of musical instruments. From my own childhood as well as research I've gathered via many hours of watching and reading, a musical instrument is the best thing to learn as the 'easiest' way to glorify God is through music. Music plays an important role in worship services, and so having children that can play instruments well allows for them to 'be of use' for worship; families also capitalise on said talent and travel around playing music as a ministry.

The skillset of the 2nd generation does play a role into how their children ended up:

Allan worked as a carpenter (and by carpenter i mean he reached level 10 of the woodworking skill and would just make things to sell) whilst being a Pastor, before retiring and working as a Pastor fulltime. He didn't learn how to play an instrument as he was focused on learning a skill that would help provide for a family.

Branden found his skills in writing, he worked as a writer in the writer field and wrote books that now provide him with royalties, like his brother, he wasn't enrolled in music lessons as his parents had other priorities set for him.

Claire was enrolled in music lessons and found she had a real skills for playing the piano as well as writing music, her mother also had her and her sisters learn homemaking skills such as gardening, cooking, balancing a checkbook and how to run a household. Claire put being a wife and mother first, but also continues to use her skills to minister for the Lord. She's become well known for her performance as well as her hymnal music arrangements (think Kim Collingsworth-esque vibe) and also teaches music as various music camps from time to time.

Danielle learnt how to play the violin as well as learning how to be a homemaker, and as she got married later in life she was the person who stepped in to run the house after her mother passed. She uses her skills whenever asked, like playing at church or at various worship events, but she's mainly focused on gardening and baking.

Elaine learnt how to play the piano and used to play at church and various events, but found her joy was in teaching. She took over homeschooling her younger siblings and went on to earn her teaching qualifications.

Fletcher was taught the piano by his older sisters, but lessons weren't pushed on him by his parents. He went on to focus on fitness and joined the police force after finishing highschool.

Grayson was more book focused and didn't learn an instrument, similar to Elaine he focused more on books and studying and ended up going to medical school.

Harley is the youngest girl and learnt how to play the guitar as a girl, as she was the youngest she didn't have to perform as often as the older siblings did. She went on to get a degree in Fine Arts and now works as the editor in chief at San Myshuno's biggest fashion magasine.

It's easiest to display the information based on the sibling order from gen 2, so here's the list of the various skillsets of the 3rd generation:

A -

Casandra being your typical conservative fundie woman, made sure that all the kids got music lessons, whatever she couldn't teach herself she found someone to teach them. Piano: Since Casandra plays the piano she taught the kids until they were in their teens, then if they chose to continue they could get lessons with Claira. Adalynn, Macie, Zoe, Beckett, Charles and Ashton chose to learn the piano and so far Zoe is the only one who has taken that and made it a career of sorts like her aunt Claire. Violin: Macie also chose to learn violin, with Amira, Priscilla, and Annette also learning the violin. Guitar: The boys mostly chose to learn the guitar, Barrett, Reece, and Parker all chose the guitar, with Maggie being the only girl to choose to learn the guitar. Of the 13 kids to learn a musical instrument, only Zoe has taken it and made it something that monetarily supports her.

B -

Lea learned how to play piano growing up, and enrolled all three of her children in piano lessons. Abbey, Brittany, and Tanner all had piano lessons until they were in their teens and focused on different extracurricular activities once they joined the private christian school.

C -

Claire made sure all her children know an instrument, the four girls (Valentina, Celeste, Kristyn, Sabrina) all know both the piano and the violin, with the 6 boys all learning piano and Carter and Alan also learning how to play the guitar. There were many suggestions of them starting a family band, but Claire and Ryan didn't feel that the Lord was leading them in that direction.

D -

Both James and Emma have learnt to play the piano, James' wife Emma can play the piano, violin, and the flute and has her degree (from a biblical college) in music with a focus on worship music.

E -

Elaine put all the kids into either piano or violin lessons, Kyra did lessons in both until she was a teenager, Rory did piano until he was a teenager, Ruby Rae did violin lessons and still plays at church, Ava Grace continues to play Piano, and Amelia still does violin lessons.

F -

Fletcher and Cara put their son into organised sports, so no music lessons this side.

G -

Keira wanted her boys to have some musical knowledge, so Matthew does guitar lessons and Archie does piano lessons.

👀 A few... Some of them I have explored here on other posts and others in various fanfic but I'll collect them here. Note, all of these focus on PZH.

1.) Jan is gender fluid. His people, the Trommites, celebrate change and thus Jan being gender fluid was regarded with great joy and embraced fully.

2.) Also on the Trommites, their society in general practices a high amount of polyamory or changes in romantic/sexual partners. It is considered normal and healthy for them to experience many different people and emotions and relationships. As a result a queer relationship to them would be staunch monogamy. Their attitudes towards queer relationships are regarded with curiosity and not hostility or fear.

3.) If Querl isn't in the lab (rarely) you might be able to find him dancing.

4.) Lyle and Tinya have absolutely messed with combining their powers when bored; she can phase through objects and people, and he can make various layers of his body. Once, (once) they made a horrifying chimera of themselves and decided to play a prank on Querl and Jo by running into whatever room they were in screaming that they had 'an accident' and had been spliced together. Both Jo and Querl shrieked and hit pitches that should have only been capable by Lori Morning. It took a long time for either to forgive them.

5.) Gates purrs.

6.) Luornu does consider Querl to be her brother given that she was taken in by Brande and so was he. Granted, they did not spend a whole lot of time with each other (she rarely saw him at all) they still share that Brande took them in. If you pay attention in the comics they do have a pretty close relationship.

7.) Once Andrew got comfortable with everyone sometimes he'd just LIE about facts from the 90s just to see their reactions. It eventually became a game where he'd come up with two truths about his birth time and then one lie and everyone would have to guess what it was like "Blue raspberry was a flavor that came from actual blue raspberries" or "back then cucumber skins were poisonous and you had to peel them"

8.) Because the hard ground of the headquarters 'hurt Gates' feet', Chuck put in special little grass paths all throughout their compound so he didn't have to rely on his powers all the time and could, if he wanted to, just take a stroll.

9.) Everyone loves hugs from Candi and Jeka.

10.) Jenni out of all them frightens the easiest but she is actually one of the most courageous and will still do what she must even though she is terrified. This is also a bit of a contrast to no-fear Bart Allen. She cannot do a scary movie without screaming, hiding her eyes, jumping and spilling her popcorn. However if any of her friends are in danger or peril, that fear sort of washes away and she turns into a terrifying cyclone that cannot be stopped. Bart's fear response spikes when his friends are in danger so they're sort of mirrors and opposites.

11.) I just like all of the 'aliens' just being alien and not being quite so human looking even if they are seeded humans. To me it's just lazy to paint a human green, or pink, or blue and then claim "behold an alien!" but this isn't really a hc.

12.) As a result I think Imra has hooves and a very fawn-like face.

13.) Every single Legionnaire is one of Jenni's lightning rods. In particular Ayla, Mon-el, Rokk, Gates and Zoe.

14.) Rokk proposes to Garth at least once a week, it's a running gag between them. Garth always tells him no.

15.) I do favor Brande being Vril Dox II's Durlan even though the reboot sort of obliterated that, I just think it adds something.

Backstory

Hope grew up in a small town in Indiana USA. Her father wasn't around much and her mom basically raised her on her own. Her brothers are both nearly a decade older than her and she was the only child in the house by the time she was 9.

She's always been interested in movies, theatre, musicals, and modeling. She'd beg her mother to buy her the magazines on the rack at the grocery store just so she could look at the pretty women.

Despite having such a high regard for herself at a young age, she was still relentlessly bullied in grade school. By the time she hit high school she became a bully herself, often talking down to others and developing a superiority complex.

Hope did have a few friends though, and doesn't consider her experience in school to be that awful. She says it could have always been worse.

She graduated on the honor roll and was class president of her senior year. Despite being able to get a free ride scholarship to Indiana University she turned it down to pursue acting. She tried online college but eventually dropped out.

She remained at her job at the local movie theatre and started to promote herself on social. This brought the attention of a Canadian man, Jonathan Weaver. Or at least that's what he called himself.

He easily manipulated her, making promises of getting her into a modeling career. He began teaching her French and would send her money to buy specific clothes to model for him. Eventually he convinced her to move to Canada.

Hope's mother begged her not to go, but of course Hope didn't listen.

When Hope stepped out of the release gate at the airport, she met the man she'd been talking to for nearly a year. He looked like how he did in the photos, and acted like how he did online.

Unfortunately for her, he drugged the bottle of water he handed to her. He led her back to his apartment, chained her to a radiator and held her captive for 2 weeks. Dressing her up, photographing her, and raping her.

Hope was able to break a pipe and get free one day while Jonathan was out of the apartment. She ran from the building begging for help, barefoot and half naked.

Something in her broke that day and while she was being questioned by police, she lied and gave them false information. Hope wanted revenge on Jonathan, and not the kind that jail time could provide.

Along the way, she started becoming interested in the websites and forums she was posted on while in captivity. Her mind further broke, and she wanted to inflict that kind of pain on others so she wouldn't have to feel it herself.

Hope began making her own content, with any poor girl she could find. She started branching out and soon began to kidnap men.

After some research and digging she found out that a man named Jonathan Weaver didn't exist; At least none that looked like the man that tortured her. The apartment she was held in was abandoned and owned by the local government. There was no trace of her kidnapper.

She remained in Canada and got her citizenship, hoping to one day run into 'Jonathan' and give him a taste of his own medicine.

She works at a shady pharmacy in a downtown area and gets away with stealing small amounts of narcotics. She's gotten good at drugging people inconspicuously and is very active in the nightlife of her city. She's a regular at most of the bars and clubs.

There are tons of great books coming out this month! Here are just a few of the ones I'm most excited about

Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White is one of my favorite books of the year! It also happens to be the only book on this list that I've already read! This is a trans-led queer apocalyptic horror novel that I've been screaming about ever since I had the good fortune to get to read it early. If you love monsters, trans rage, and smashing evangelical hate, read this book ASAP.

Home Field Advantage by Dahlia Adler is a sapphic romance between the cheer captain and the new quarterback, whose gender is apparently already causing an uproar. Remember that photo going around of the cheerleader helping the football player put her hair up in a ponytail? Yeah, this book was inspired by that.

Not Good for Maidens by Tori Bovalino is a retelling of The Goblin Market but made into a queer horror piece. I cannot wait for the dark, lush experience of a place so magical and tempting, or the insane pressure of needing to escape it in 3 days.

Juniper & Thorn by Ava Reid is another retelling, but this one isn't queer and instead of retelling a poem it's retelling a folktale. A gothic take on The Juniper Tree, this one is full of curses, forbidden love, and danger. I've heard SO many good things about this book and this author!

Drunk on All Your Strange New Words by Eddie Robson is a scifi locked door mystery! This book stars a middling (alien language) translator with few credentials or prospects who finds herself in the middle of a mysterious, political death. This is also a post-contact story with the very fun addition that those who can understand the aliens' telepathic language feel literally drunk from it.

Godslayers by Zoe Hana Mikuta is the sequel to the sapphic, Gundam-y Gearbreakers! From the cover alone this book promises even more revolution, action, and gigantic government robots.

Not an essay-length post like the last couple of times, my late S1 rewatch thoughts from 1x09-1x10 are gonna be way more scattered. I’m sorry, three weeks of not posting rewatch thoughts have done this to me.

Judging from TK and Owen’s convo, this must be indicative of the “equals” dynamic they have going on when they’re off the job or don’t feel the authoritative need. And it says something about TK when even though he’s really going through a full-on PTS existential crisis he not only doesn’t blame a little boy for acting out of fear, he’s pretty chill about Zoe and keeping in contact with her even when god knows how many times he went through the emotionally mountainous peaks and valleys that made up his dad’s love life and 2 failed marriages. (Tbf, timing of meeting your parent’s love interest when you’re coming out of the wrong end of a medical emergency— that timing is awkward). Also I’m low key bitter that we didn’t get a scene of Carlos visiting conscious TK during the rest of the hospital stay or his at-home recuperation. That was quite a lot that happened offscreen. But, all the same, I’m glad TK decided to take a chance and renounce his semi-renouncement of his relationship with Carlos. It’s beautiful.

Having watched Overly Sarcastic Productions’ thoughts on gender-reveal parties (look up the name on YT, then for a video game livestream of Journey), that family is gonna have their hands full with their now 4 sons.

Also late shoutout to the 911 Lone Star Roundup podcast! I am a local Hawaiian so felt so seen when they brought up kalua pork in their 1x02 discussion (btw, kalua pork is very similar to Texan barbacoa but they wrap the seasoned pig/ fish/ chicken in leaves before cooking). Now veering back to 1x09… I feel like the father and son (“Keithan” has very similar hybrid vibes to “Renesmee”, huh) might view the word “spelunking” cold comfort after that experience in… the… the Birth Canal??? (HOW DID I NEVER REALIZE THE INNUENDO?! God, the comments section is bringing out a louder side in me)

The Blake family’s mystery arc, I thought, was pretty good. There could’ve been more to be shown, like most things on the show (like, did the sisters catch a ride to the hospital after Iris saved Michelle? Walk? Wait it out? There was a district-to-citywide electronic shutdown, that doesn’t bode well for unstable mental health) but otherwise? It was good for what we got to see, I think. Low key fight me. Iris bringing up Carlos keeping Michelle out of trouble? Admittedly it is a bit of a stretch to say that it was foreshadowed for season 4, but it was nice to hear him in her thoughts. And the parallels with TK’s past with addiction were subtle, but there in a few more ways than with Owen and Michelle’s talk.

Thinking on the astronaut call, there’s one more late 911 Lone Star Roundup shoutout I wanna make, plus one more retrospective parallel. If the 126 had had TK on the call, or… if TK had heard that call? Yeah. That would hurt him hard. And with what happens to him and his mom two seasons later (in flashbacks to 2017, but still)? … a moment of silence. And I JUST came up with it off the top of my head today.

As for my timeline measurements, I admit defeat now.

But I will pick it back up and try assembling everything again. Not yet, but soon. Just… look. I get that suspension of disbelief in narrative timelines exists for a reason, but please. Some help from a stable continuity would be more than welcomed. I’m not-so-surreptitiously peering at @thisbuildingwithfeelings.
