Mob!Natasha x daughter!reader headcannons
masterlist
a/n: I figured writing some headcanons was a bit less pressuring, and I enjoyed this so much! I’ll definitely be writing more headcanons in the future :)

 |——————————— ⴵ ———————————|
Mob!Natasha who found you when you were just a baby. She heard crying coming out of the closet after she had just killed her target. Turns out, he had already found his next victim, you. Luckily, Natasha was just in time to save you from that horrible life and raised you herself
Mob!Natasha who raised you in the safety of her Russian home. Protected, hidden, and far away from the dangers of the world
Mob!Natasha who only allowed Melina, Alexei, and Yelena to see and know about you the first 5 years of your life
Mob!Natasha who started training you for active combat the moment you could stand, wanting you to be able to protect yourself, should you ever end up being mixed into one of her ‘jobs’
Mob!Natasha who loves you more than anything in the world, getting you whatever you want whenever you want it, yet still making sure you’re not becoming a spoiled brat
Mob!Natasha who puts her trusted bodyguard, Bucky Barnes, on any and every outing you go on. You leave the house for a walk? You better count on the fact that Bucky is coming. You want to go shopping? Don’t worry, Bucky will simply come to help you carry your bags. You want to have dinner with someone? Bucky will simply sit a few tables away from you, giving you privacy yet keeping a close eye on you
Mob!Natasha who is terrified when your existence becomes known after you and her are spotted going for a little shopping trip. She will upgrade her security everywhere, putting multiple bodyguards by your side every time you leave the house. Of course, she still trusts that Bucky is the best at keeping you safe, but just to be sure, you get a few more of her men
Mob!Natasha who sometimes allows you to sit in on her meetings, letting you sit next to her, or on the ground, whichever you prefer. It’s not like any of the people she is meeting with can say anything. That is if they want to keep their lives of course. Sometimes, if you forgot to bring something she will slide you her notepad for you to doodle on, or she’ll just stop the entire meeting and order one of her men to fetch you whatever you wish. She gets to decided how her meetings go, of course
Mob!Natasha who knows you adore her henchwomen more than anything. Your personal favourite is Natasha’s assistant, Maria. You know her and your mom have some more going on. You are not blind to the lingering touches and the sneaky looks they send each other. Of course, you are a big fan of Carol. She is just so cool and nice to you, even though she can kill someone with basically a glare. To you, she is the sweetest human on the planet
Mob!Natasha who knows you adore your aunt Yelena more than anyone on the planet. Because of that, she makes sure Yelena gets the opportunity to visit more than enough. Everytime Natasha has to leave for a slightly bigger ‘job’ she simply calls Yelena to keep you company. Natasha knows you don’t need a babysitter anymore, but she likes the idea of you not having to be lonely. Besides, it is much safer for you to be accompanied by your aunt Yelena
Mob!Natasha who knows how much you adore playing board and cards games, so she told her people to never deny you a game, were you to ask. Luckily, you mostly gravitate towards Carol and her girlfriend Valkyrie, and who were they to deny you a game? They loved your company, and they loved playing your card games with you
Mob!Natasha who, when you start dating someone, runs thousands of background checks, does hundreds of checkups throughout the day, and makes sure to give whoever you decided to date a little talk, letting them know exactly what’s waiting for them were they ever to hurt you
Mob!Natasha who had the best private tutors coming to your home to teach you everything you needed to know, giving you the highest level of eduction you’d ever need
Mob!Natasha who knows that you are financially set for life, but who still allows you to go to college if you would ever want to. Of course it would be an expensive, high security private school, but still
Mob!Natasha who takes you on the multiple holiday trips during the year. You want to go to Spain? Pack your bag because Natasha will have planned a trip next week. Obviously you both will simply take her private jet, but she needs a week to book some fancy holiday home for you two to stay at
Mob!Natasha who, despite her fortune, often books small, low budget holiday trips. Everyone knows those small holiday homes are the best and the cosiest. What kind of mother would Natasha be if she didn’t give you that experience?

Maria Hill x (15 year old) daughter!reader

Avengers x Hill!reader

Not my Gif*
Steve walked in with a plate of cookies. COOKIES! Maria swiped them from Steve, hoping to hid them from-
"COOKIES" Y/n, Maria's 15 year old daughter shouted from her spot on the ground.
"Oh god." Maria picked her head up, smiling at her little girl. "Yes, my friend Steve brought them for-" She looked at Steve.
"B-both of you guys." He smiled at Y/n.
"Oh my gosh, I have wanted cookies since last week." Y/n shot her mom a quick glance.
"I told you I looked down that aisle four times. How am I suppose to know they are behind a big box of healthy snacks."
"It's their tactic to keep us on a diet. But I've told you about this before."
"Okay, well I can't remember everything. You know that." Taking a cookie and going back to her seat, Y/n says,
"Well you should." And to make sure her mother doesn't hear she adds a quick, "Thanks Steve."
"You're welcome." Steve gives Maria a nod before ducking out and almost instantly someone else walks right back in.
"There she is! The infamous Y/n Hill. If only Maria told us she had a kid. Maybe you'd be an Avenger by now."
"Really?"
"No." Maria butts in, giving Tony Stark a look. "I think Fury needs you, he is on the other end of the hall." She points down the way. Tony hands Y/n a crusty popsicle that he probably found on the ground and leaves the room. Maria walks over and hands her daughter a cookie in exchange for the lolly. She throws it away, despite Y/n's protests. "No, you're not eating that thing. It's not even food."
"Mooooooom!" Y/n huffs.
"Hey, no whining, come on, we're in public. And you're a big girl." Y/n pouts at Maria. "My big girl." She ruffles your hair. Y/n takes another cookie and walked out the door and down the hall. Maria listens from her desk. She hears people greet her and her daughter's laughter as she traveled down the hallway. Hearing Tony again, and Monica, Carol, Wanda, even Vision's, offering her a brownie. And Maria knew bringing her kid to work was gonna be more mothering than work as Y/n walked in with a plate of cookies, a smile and Vision with Wanda on his heels. Come to say hi.
"Hi!" Wanda cheers!
"Mom look what I found!" She showed her mom the plate, offering her one. Which she declines, seeing the chocolate smeared on Y/n's face. She goes to wipe it off, which Y/n avoids, scrunching her face.
"Okay, I have to be at training, 3 minutes ago. She kisses Vision on the cheek and gives Maria and her daughter a smile as she exits.
"I shall be on my way too. Good to see you, Miss Hill." Vision waves good bye to you and your mom.
Over the next few hours it seems you just started to bounce off the walls after finishing BOTH the brownies and cookie plates. With Maria's help, but mostly your own.
"Mommomomomomomomomom-"
"Babe." She held one hand out to you, the other trying to hold herself together. "Please. If you don't specifically need me, don't call my name."
"Mom?" Maria took a breath.
"Yes?"
"I don't know I just wanted to say your name"
"That's-" You were now running down the hall saying, as it echoed across the walls,
"Look mom nooo haaaaands!" Running with your arms flailing about behind you. Giggling you ran back into her office running around to jump into her chair, trying to, but fitting awkwardly in her lap. Maria just let you go, knowing you would crash soon enough. And 30 minutes later you were asleep on the ground. Thor had come in to gift you surprise birthday cake flavored pop tarts but you asleep. So he left. Maria wasn't even able to greet him before he was marching back down the hall. He came back in, gently putting a small blanket on your back. Maria smiled. She finally felt how the rest of her colleagues did. She realized that they were all just big family. And they all love Y/n just like she does.
After Thor left again, Maria took a photo of her sleeping baby. She smiled and watched her sleep peacefully. Turning out the lights she left to go talk with her family right down the way.

two the marvel little fix-it-ish drabbles I should write
Carol and Monica fucking hug after Carol tells them about destroying the Supreme Intelligence. it doesn't matter if Monica didn't 100% forgave her and was still upset (she has all right to), what matters is that they needed to hug each other.
Carol tells her that Maria would be proud of her, and should tell she was proud too. she obviously cared, she cared enough she felt like she couldn't go home with all the guilt she felt, you can't tell me she wasn't proud of the woman Monica became too.

Lightning Bug - Chapter 13
Tumblr media
Master List for Lightning Bug
Warning: mention of human traffiking, mention of abuse, guilt, nightmares, fluff,
Word Count: 6.1 K
Natasha walked out of her room and was welcomed by the scent of bacon and cinnamon. Her stomach growled. She stretched, winching slightly. Her muscles were still stiff but she was alive. She and her team came home alive and that was what mattered. She heard laughing as she walked into the kitchen. America, Kate, and Yelena were sitting down with a plate of food and the teen was flipping a pancake. It was becoming such a normal right that the Black Widow missed it when she was on the mission. More laughter echoed against the walls, it was mostly America’s laugh at what Kate said. “If you keep standing there the food is going to get cold,” Yelena said, looking over her shoulder. Natasha rolled her eyes, walking over to the group. A plate was set down in front of her.
“Want a cup of coffee?” The young girl asked.
“I can get it,”
“Sit,” she said. “I’ve already eaten.” Natasha sat down with much protest as she watched her pour a cup of coffee.
“We got the same treatment,” Kate said, taking a piece of bacon from the plate. “I’m not complaining. It’s like we are VIPs.” A warm cup of coffee was set in front of her.
“Milk, cream, or sugar?”
“Just black,” she blew on it and took a sip. She didn’t miss the way the teen’s nose scrunched in disgust. “What?”
“Nothing,” she raised her hands innocently. “I’m not here to judge how people like their coffee even if it’s gross.” America laughed.
“What you drink shouldn’t be considered coffee,” the teen gasped, clutching her heart in mock offense.
“You are never getting my pancakes again,” Kate laughed as America tried to correct the mistake she made. But Yelena didn’t join in. She was pushing her last piece of pancake around in the syrup. Natasha bumped her shoulder against Yelenas.
“Ty v poryadke (Are you okay?)” She asked. Her sister didn’t verbally answer but her shoulders moved up and down. “Koshmar? (Nightmare?)” Yelena nodded. She knew this mission was going to be tough. “Vy khotite pogovorit' (Do you want to talk?)”
“Mozhet byt' pozzhe (Maybe later),” she answered, joining in on the conversation on the correct way to drink coffee. Natasha caught eye’s looking at her. She offered Natasha a kind smile and a nod of her head. Natasha smiled back, letting their laughter fill a part of Natasha that was missing.
*
You weren’t sure what Natasha and Yelena were saying due to them speaking in Russian but you knew it had to do with Yelena. It didn’t take an Avenger or a Black Widow to notice the shift in her mood. She looked like she didn’t sleep at all. After breakfast, Kate and America helped clean up and Yelena took off. You knew she was safe, the team was on strict orders from Helen to rest and recover. But there was a part of you that was anxious to know where the blonde ran off to and make sure she was safe. So, you asked FRIDAY where she was. The AI informed you she was in the shooting range and wanted to be left alone. Well, rules were meant to be broken. The worst thing she could do is turn you away or shoot you. Your hand rested on the door handle. Let’s hope she chooses to tell you to leave as you open the door.
You didn’t know much about guns but you knew it wasn’t good to be shooting in the dark. It smelt like fireworks so you knew Yelena had just recently fired. You felt the wall to find the light switch and you flipped it on. The room was illuminated. One wall was covered with lockers and a few benches. Across the lockers were stalls facing the targets. You saw Yelena sitting on the ground, her knee to her chest and her elbows resting on her knees. She didn’t look at you, didn’t notice that the lights turned on as she stared at her hands. Her green eyes were glossy, she had a far-off look in her eyes.
“Yelena,” you said softly. She made no move if she heard you. “Yelena,” Still nothing. You wondered if you should call Natasha or Kate but more people could overwhelm her. “Dorogoy,” the Russian word still felt thick and unnatural on your tongue. But the usage of her primary language snapped her out of the dissociative episode she was in. She looked at you, eyebrows together.
“I came in here because I didn’t want to be found,” she said. Her Russian accent was thicker.
“Right,” you said. “But I need your help.” She waited for you to continue. “I’m learning Russian,” you held up your phone. “But I don’t know where to start so here I am.” Her gaze softened as she looked from your phone to you.
“You're learning Russian,” you nodded. “Why?”
“Because you, Nat, and Wanda speak it,” you said. “If you’ve learned English so it’s only fair I try to learn your language.” It was why you were learning Spanish because of Lucia.
“Oh,” she whispered.
“Can I join you?” You asked, pointing to the empty spot next to her. She nodded. You sat down next to her and showed her your phone. “So I downloaded Duolingo.”
“Duolingo?” She questioned. “What is that?”
“It’s a green animated owl that teaches you languages,” she gave you a confused look. “I don’t understand it either. Here let me know you.” You took your glove off your left hand and opened the app. You showed Yelena the profile you created before you made the walk down here. You struggled at first - selecting the wrong verb to complete the sentence and incorrectly matching the word to the picture. But Yelena was patient. She gave you time to think and figure it out on your own then provided you tips to get the answer right the next time around. “You're a good teacher,” you said to her.
“You’re not the first person I’ve taught the language to,” you looked at the blonde. “Lila wanted to learn. Laura and Clint speak the language. Not sure if she kept up with it.” You nodded, returning to the app. It was quiet between the two of you. It wasn’t awkward but rather nice and peaceful. Koshmar. Koshmar. You repeated the word over and over again in your head. It was the word Yelena nodded to when Natasha said it.
“What does koshmar mean?” You asked, looking at Yelena. You tripped over the word but you knew she understood by the way her shoulders tensed up.
“It’s pronounced koshmar,” you repeated the word a couple of times. “Better. It means nightmare.” You hummed, returning your attention to the app. “I don’t want to talk about it.”
“I wasn’t going to ask,” you said. You continued to learn simple words and basic grammar rules but you felt Yelena’s eyes on you. “What does suka mean?” You asked. Yelena laughed.
“Suka means bitch,” you gasped, looking at the blonde.
“Natasha called Maria a bitch! That’s so mean!” Yelena laughed again which made you smile.
“That sounds like my sister,” you fell back into silence. “What are you doing?” She finally asked. “Why are you here?” You closed the app and tapped your phone against your hand.
“I wanted to make sure you were okay,” you said, glancing at her and then looking forward. “You don’t have to talk about it but I’m here if you want to.” Yelena sighed, looking up at the ceiling. “Do you want to hear about one of my nightmares?” She didn’t say anything as she looked at you.
“Well, when my parents were alive they liked to have parties, show off the house or celebrate something,” you said, looking forward. “The issue was no one knew my parents had a second kid so I helped set up the party, cooked, cleaned, and did anything my mother needed. Right before the party, I would be sent down to the basement. My nightmare was about a Christmas party. My brother was going to bring me food when the door opened and Natasha and Wanda came down the stairs. They taunted me and dropped the plate of food they brought down for me.
“I grabbed onto Natasha’s arm and she got bad and threw me down the basement stairs. I ran down the stairs and pleaded for them to help me but when the door opened America was there. She told me we weren’t friends,” you cleared your throat. “Told me no one cared about me.” You were leaving out some details of the nightmare but it wasn’t important.
“Minus my sister and Wanda, did that happen to you?” You nodded.
“Sort of. I was promised food if I stayed quiet and good but the power went out and I was blamed for it,” you shrugged. “A car accident caused it. It didn’t matter, my father was upset.” You saw Yelena’s jaw clench.
“He hit you,” you nodded. You noticed a fire form in her eyes. You smiled.
“He’s dead,” you told her. “Died in a fire along with my mother.”
“Death doesn’t erase the pain,” you agreed with her. Yelena rested her forearms on her knees and stared ahead. You waited for her to collect her thoughts. You were in no rush. “Natasha and I aren’t biological sisters,” you figured that much but the blood didn’t make a family. “A mission brought us together and when the mission was over we got separated. I remember her arms around me as the shipping containers opened and I was ripped out of her arms,” she looked down and you saw tears running down her cheeks. Your heart was breaking for the blonde sitting next to you.
“I’m guessing the nature of this mission is to bring back some memories.” Yelena nodded.
“Yeah,” her voice cracked. “I don’t understand why the world is so mean and cruel.” You sighed, leaning your head against the wall.
“I don’t know why either,” you said. “But I’ve been told that in the darkest moments, you’ll find the brightest stars.” You helped out your hand up for her to take. Unlike Natasha or America, she didn’t hesitate to take it. “You aren’t alone, Yelena,” she smiled, whipping away a few of her tears.
“You aren’t either,” you smiled, letting go of her hand and reopening the app to practice. You gasped suddenly looking at the blonde. “What?”
“Can you teach me how to shoot a gun?” Yelena looked, disbelief all over her face.
“No!” you pouted. “1, Natasha would kill me, and 2, why do you need to learn how to shoot a gun?” You shrugged, standing up.
“I think it would be cool,” you headed for the door. “Are you going to stay down here?” Yelena nodded.
“I’ll be up shortly,” she paused. “Thank you.”
“No problem,” you turned around to leave. “Oh thank you for not shooting me,” you said over your shoulder. “I was worried about that when I opened the door.” Yelena’s laughter echoed after you as you opened and closed the door behind you.
“Shit,” you heard followed by a crash. You spun around to see Sam trying to pick up one of his crutches that fell.
“What are you doing?” You asked, walking over to him. A shy smile formed on his face as you picked up one of the crutches that fell.
“I was going to do a light workout,” you blinked at the man standing in front of you.
“Your leg is broken,” you said. He rolled his eyes and adjusted the crutch underneath his armpit.
“I was going to do arms,” you continued to stare at him. Sam sighed and sat down on the bleaches. “Don’t look at me like that, I'm fine.” You sat down in front of him, pulling your knees to your chest.
“Are you fine?” You questioned. He looked at you.
“It's those eyes,” he said. “They stare into your soul and force you to reveal all my secrets,” you giggled. “And yes I am deflecting.” You smiled. “Can I ask you something?”
“Of course,” you said. “I may not answer but you can ask.” Sam laughed. You liked the sound of it. It was warm and comforting. A reminder of home. You kept eye contact as you waited for him to ask his question.
“When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?” You didn’t expect that question. “Look I know you are still a kid but humor me.” You sighed, resting your chin on your forearms.
“I wanted to be an astronaut,” you loved looking up at the moon and imagining what your life would be like up there.
“Why an astronaut?” You smiled.
“Because it was the only thing I could think of to get far away from my parents,” you leaned back on your palms. “Now that I say it out loud, that seems sad.” Sam nodded, offering you a sad smile. “What about you? Did you always see yourself being an Avenger?” Sam laughed, shaking his head.
“I was a boy from Louisiana. Being a ‘superhero,’ he added quotations around the word. You frowned at that. “Wasn’t on my radar. I wanted to be a fisherman and take over my parents’ seafood restaurant.”
“What changed?” You asked. It was his turn to sigh.
“My parents died. I joined the military,” you waited for him to continue. “I served two years and was a test pilot for their EXO-7 Falcon,” you watched as his eyes became lost in the memory. It reminded you of Yelena.
“Did you lose someone over there?” You asked. He nodded.
“His name was Riley. He got hit with an RPG and fell out of the sky,” he sighed. “There was nothing I could have done.” You remember what America said about how Sam got hurt - something hi Sam that knocked him out of the air. You stood up and sat down next to him. You wondered if he felt like Riley, helpless and scared. Or did he feel guilty that he couldn’t do more while he was hurt? You smiled.
“I sometimes forget how human all of you are,” you felt Sam watching you. “I’ve seen you guys on the news and in the newspaper doing impossible things to save us normal folk,” you finally looked at Sam. “But you are human, with human emotions and human limits.” Sam looked away from you and stared at the empty training room. “I’ll say the same thing to you as I said to Nat, you can’t save everyone.”
“What’s the point then?” He asked. “Why were we granted these gifts if we can’t save everyone?” It was a tough question and one that made sense.
“I don’t think you're supposed to,” you whispered. “Good and evil, superheroes and villains, it’s a balance. One can’t exist without the other.” Sam let what you said to sit with him.
“Have you seen Avatar: The Last Airbender?” You shook your head. “It’s a good show. My nephews like it and I think you would as well.”
“I’ll check it out,” he smiled, nodding his head.
“You are wise beyond your years, young Avatar,” you giggled, making a mental note to watch the show. “Thank you.”
“Of course,” you stood up and offered your hand to help Sam stand. He took it and used the extra assistance to get this balance and pick up his crutches from the floor. “When I leave here you better not go try to work out and I’ll have FRIDAY tell me and I will come back down here,” Sam laughed.
“Yes ma’am,” he gave you a mock salute. You turned to leave the training room but stopped and turned to look at the Avenger.
“And Sam,” you said. “You are a hero. Please don’t think you aren’t. Riley would be proud of you.” Sam looked down, his brown eyes glossy with tears.
“Thank you.”
*
You left the training area and walked into Tony’s lab, watching the billionaire and the doctor tinker with Sam’s wings. They had a whole lineup of suits to work on, the mission must have been a hard one. “Hey kid,” Tony said, lifting his safety goggles and turning off the blow torch. “What are you doing in our neck of the woods?” You smiled.
“I was seeing if you had something. But if you are busy then it can wait. It’s not that important.”
“Of course it is,” he said. “What do you need?”
“Do you have an extra notebook or a pad of paper I can have?” He blinked at you. You could see the gears turning in his head.
“You want a notebook,” he said slowly. You nodded. “To write on.” You nodded again. “Like paper.”
“Yes!”
“Why not use a tablet?” You sighed as Bruce chuckled.
“I have one that you can have,” he stood up and went to go get it for you. You sat down on a stool Tony pointed at. The top spun.
“Why do you want a notebook?” He asked. You didn’t miss his smile as you began to spin in a circle.
“I’m teaching myself Russian,” you liked the way the world looked as you spun. The colors were blurring together.
“You're teaching yourself Russian,” you nodded.
“I taught myself how to read and some Spanish, Russian can’t be too hard. Especially when so many people in the tower speak it,” Tony grabbed onto the chair to stop spinning. “Whoa dizzy.” The billionaire chuckled.
“You’ve never been to school,” he said. “Even before you were homeless.” You shook your head.
“Nope. It’s hard to send a kid to school you wanted no one to know about,” Bruce came back and handed you a small notebook. “Thanks, Bruce,” you smiled. “I’ll see you guys at dinner tonight,” Natasha told you there was another team dinner tonight and you wanted to be there.
“Kid, wait,” you turned back to look at Tony. “Have you thought about homeschooling since you live here now?”
“Homeschooling?” You questioned slowly.
“Yes! You would have to take a placement test to see where you are at but we would be the best teachers. Tell her,” he hit Bruce on the shoulder. He glared at the man, rubbing the spot he hit.
“It should be your choice but we could help you,” Oh. You’ve never thought you’d have the chance to go to school. You’ve read about it; all the cliques, school dances, and football games.
“I feel like you have more important things to do than homeschool me.”
“Look, you don’t have to make a decision now. Think about it. The options will always be there.” Tony said.
“Thank you, Tony,” you said. “And thank you Bruce for the notebook.”
“Of course. See you at dinner.” You took the stairs back to your floor as you pondered his offer. You watched your brother go to school. You saw him stress over upcoming tests, read from textbooks, and do homework. Some kids loved not going to school but dreamt of it for so long. But you couldn’t accept Tony’s offer - they had far more important things to do. The Avengers were superheroes. They saved people from imprisonment and stopped those that want to take over the world. They didn’t have time for that - they’ve done so much for you already.
You sighed, quicking grabbing your headphones from your room, and sat down on the couch. You pulled up Youtube and found videos on Russian grammar. You lost track of time as you took notes on each video, filling the notebook with grammar and vocabulary. You were in the middle of a video on vocabulary and verbs used in a house when you felt your body tense up.
It was a weird feeling as the hairs on the back of your neck stood up. Three people entered the kitchen, and that feeling was normal. People gave off energy, you could tell how many people were in a room, what they were doing, and if they left. But this felt different, goosebumps formed across your skin. You knew it was America, Yelena, and Kate without having to pause the Youtube video and America was walking over to you. What was going on?
America jumped over the back of the couch, carefully not to land on you. You paused the video and took your headphones off. “Whatcha doing?” She asked.
“I’m learning Russian,” you smiled at the confused look on her face. “It’s slow work. Do you need something?”
“Lena, Kate, and I are going to get ice cream. Do you want to come?” She asked. You smiled.
“Yes!”
“Peter is going to meet us there,” you looked at Kate, who was texting on her phone. “Is that okay?”
“Of course, it is,” you said. “Let’s go!”
*
It was a different ice cream place than the one Natasha brought you to. Peter was already by the door, scrolling through his phone. He looked okay minus a cut on his cheek. He smiled, putting his phone away when you got closer. “Hey, how are you guys?” He asked, hugging Kate and America.
“Ready to eat my weight in ice cream,” America said. Peter laughed, holding the door open. You were about to follow but you stopped. They were there, Michael and his crew. Michael waved at you, smiling. His smile ran a chill down your spine and the color drained from your face. You could still feel his hands on your wrist as he pinned you to the wall. Why were they following you? What did they want?
“Hey,” you looked at Peter. “Are you okay?” You nodded, looking back down the street and they were gone.
“Yeah,” you said, walking into the ice cream. America and Kate were ordering while Yelena got a table. You waited for your turn to order but your mind was focused on Michael. When it was your turn, you got a hot fudge sundae and waited with Kate to get everyone else’s order. You brought your ice cream, America, and Yelena’s to the table and sat down next to the Black Widow. Soon Peter and Kate joined you. Yelense sensed your mood change and kept making jokes under her breath that caused you to smile.
Finally, you joined in - laughing and smiling as the stories got told. You smiled at Yelena, thanking her silently. She nodded. Your stomach was still in knots and your heart was pounding but you knew you were safe for the moment. Michael wouldn’t do anything if you were with the Avengers. With them you were safe.

Natasha watched the elevator doors open and her sister, Kate, America, and Y/n walked onto the floor with ice cream in their hands. “Just the trio I’m looking for,” Maria said. The teen pointed at herself. “Not you.” She smiled, sitting down on the couch next to Wanda. “I need mission reports on my desk by tomorrow afternoon,” America groaned, flopping on the couch. “It’s not coming from me, kid.”
“You’ll get them,” Kate said, sitting on the couch. “Thanks, Maria.” Natasha watched as Y/n laughed along with Wanda as the scenes played out. It was such a nice change, watching the teen show more of her personality. She must have felt eyes on her because she turned around. She smiled, watching the Black Widow. Natasha waved back and the girl’s attention went back to the TV.
“It’s strange,” she said to Maria, quietly to not disturb the movie. “Something changed within. I don’t know what happened.” She looked back at Maria, who was unwrapping a Hershey's kiss.
“I do,” Maria said. “You could have died on that mission, Nat. Any of you could. Maybe it was a wake-up call she needed.” More laughter drew them back to the TV. “FRIDAY alerted her as soon as we got back that you were hurt and ran to med bay. She didn’t leave your side.” Maria opened another candy and offered it to Natasha but she turned it down. “Whatever you're doing, it's working.”
The sound of the young girl’s laughter filled the room again. It sounded so free. Natasha smiled. The Black Widow always wanted kids but the Red Room stripped that right from her. Motherhood was a concept that scared and fascinated her. She was taken from her biological mother, the woman was killed because she was trying to get her back. Melina was a mother given to her because of a Red Room mission then taken from her when it was over. But she’s seen Laura love her kids with everything in her. So her concept of motherhood was skewed.
Natasha sighed, picking up a piece of chocolate and opening it. The girl wasn’t even hers and she hadn’t been here for long but Natasha knew she would do anything to protect her.
*
Dinner was barbeque food. You sat between America and Yelena with Sam and Maria sitting across from you. You thought dinner on your floor was crazy; this was a whole new level. Everyone was talking over one another as the food was being passed around. You could barely keep up. “Are you doing okay?” America asked.
“You guys are crazy,” the statement caused Sam to laugh.
“Welcome to the family,” he said. “You have to be equally as crazy to join.” You smiled, rolling your eyes. Family. You had a family. Something you dreamed about for yours. It was an overwhelming feeling but it didn’t scare you, which surprised you. You enjoyed it. You had a long way to go to open up and tell them the truth about what you were capable of but that was okay. Your left hand was underneath the table and felt America grab it. She sent you a small smile and you squeezed her hand back.
A stream of light and color appeared in the living room. You jumped to your feet, the chair falling to the ground. You weren’t the only one on their feet. Tony stood up, with part of his Iron Man suit on his arm and Steve was facing the light. Soon it disappeared and a group of people was standing there. The table seemed to relax but you were still unsure of who these people were.
“Ah! It appears we’ve arrived at the perfect time,” a man said. He had short dirty blonde hair and he was holding an ax. “Dinner!”
“Thor, what are you doing here?” America fixed your chair and you sat back down.
“We were in the area,” Thor said. Wanda conjured up another table that was added to the other end. “And FRIDAY informed us you were back from a mission.” The man sat down. “What a better time to celebrate.” You were watching the new additions. There were two older women; one with dirty blonde hair down to her shoulders and the other had curly black hair.
“Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau,” America mumbled, loud enough for you to hear. You nodded. “They aren’t around a lot because they deal with more off-world threats.” You weren’t sure what she meant by that.
“And that guy is Thor, right? The God of Thunder?” You questioned. America nodded.
“He can be.” She paused. “A lot.” You giggled. Thor, Carol, and Monica sat down while the other member of their group went over to talk to Peter. She was young, maybe around your age. She had black long hair that went to the middle of her back. Before you could ask America who she was, the girl looked away from Peter and looked your way. She smiled, waved, and walked over to you. You felt your heart pound.
“Hi,” she said. “Peter said you're the new addition to the tower. I’m Kamala.”
“Hi,” you said softly. “I’m Y/n. It’s nice to meet you.” You found her smile infectious.
“Same to you,” she clasped her hand together. “Well, I’m starving. Maybe we can hang out after dinner.” Before you could say anything she ran over to Peter, plopping down in the empty seat. You shook your head.
“Like I said crazy,” Yelena and America laughed. Once dinner was over you helped gather the few leftovers, bringing them into the kitchen.
“So you must be Lady Y/n,” you still jumped at the sound of God's voice directed at you. Wait. Did he just call you a lady?
“Uh yes sir,” you said. “It’s nice to meet you.” You turned to Carol. “You too ma’am.” Carol scrunched her nose.
“Call me Carol. That made me feel old,” She said, taking a sip of her beer.
“That’s because you are old,” Monica teased, sitting down next to Thor. “Monica Rambeau.” She introduced herself. She didn’t offer her hand as you had your hands full of food.
“Here,” Thor pulled up an empty chair. “Sit with us.” You sat down on autopilot. You heard Natasha laughing.
“Take it easy on her, Thor,” she took the food from you. “I don't want you scaring her off.” She looked at you, asking a silent question if you were okay. You nodded. The god frowned.
“I’m not scaring her,” he looked at you. “Am I?”
“No-no, sir,” Thor smiled.
“Perfect!” He said. “Now, how do you like living at the tower? Are the others being nice to you? I will strike them with lightning for you, Lady Y/n?” Your jaw dropped, unable to contain your surprise. Carol laughed.
“He’s very protective of the Young Avengers,” she said.
“I’m not an Avenger,” you said, finding your voice. “I just live here.” Monica shrugged.
“Technicalities,” she said with a wave of her hand. “So, are you enjoying it?” You nodded.
“Yeah, they’ve been great,” you began to fiddle with your gloves. “They saved me.” You admitted.
“They tend to do that,” Before you could question what Carol meant, Thor slammed his hand on the table. The sound made you jump.
“We should celebrate!”
“Celebrate?” You questioned softly.
“Yes! I’m guessing you didn’t get a proper welcome home party and the others just returned from a successful mission that is a call for drinks.” Carol rolled her eyes.
“You never need to find a reason to drink.” It wasn’t hard to convince the others to throw an impromptu party. The tables were cleared and soft music was playing to fill the quiet space, not that it was quiet at all. A pool game broke out between Bucky and Steve vs. Sam and Thor. Carol and Tony were going head to head in a game of darts. Wanda, Vision, and Monica were sitting on the couch. There was music and laughter and a lot of noise. You were watching Peter and Kamala set up a table to play beer pong when Pepper sat down next to you with a sigh, a glass of wine in her hand.
“Are you playing the winner?” She asked. You shook your head.
“I’d prefer to watch first then play,” you looked at the CEO. “I’m surprised you're over here and not cheering on Tony.” Pepper laughed.
“He’ll be okay. I wanted to talk to you before the night got too rowdy,” you giggled. “I’m leaving for Paris tomorrow morning for a week.” Oh.
“I’m kind of jealous,” you voiced instead of you saying that you were going to miss the CEO. “Bring me back some chocolate.” Pepper rolled her eyes.
“Of course. Do you want me to leave you some work to do?” She asked. You nodded.
“Yeah!” You said excitedly. “I mean if you want to leave me stuff to do.” You calmed down your excitement. Pepper smiled, standing up.
“Behave,” you smiled.
“Yes ma’am,” she walked away as America and Kate came over.
“We weren’t sure what you wanted,” America said. She had a red fizzy drink in her hand and the archer’s drink looked like orange juice.
“That’s fine. I’ll go get something,” you walked over to Natasha, who was making a drink for Yelena. The blonde took the glass and winked at you as she walked passed. You jumped onto the bar stool. “Give me your strongest liquor,” you teased. The Black Widow rolled her eyes.
“A Shirley temple then,” you shrugged as she put a glass down and filled it with soda and red syrup, and placed some cherries on top. “So, how are you doing with all of this?” You took a sip of the drink. It was sweet and the carbonation tickled your nose.
“Okay,” you admitted. “It was very unexpected.”
“That’s Thor for you,” you looked at the God. He was laughing at something Sam said. “He isn’t on Earth a lot but when he is he’ll always find a reason to celebrate.” You glanced at Natasha, who leaned closer to you. “He’s gone through a lot, lost a way to many people that is why he’s protective of them,” she gestured to the ‘Young Avengers’ as Carol called them. “And all of us.” You looked back at Thor, who met your eyes and raised his glass as a greeting. You smiled and waved back at him. It was so strange, having someone that just met you has a strong sense of protection for you.
“Thanks for the drink, Nat,” you stood up and walked back to the beer pong game. You watched the game between Peter and Kamala then Peter vs Kate, the archer won by a landslide. The archer beat America and the game between her and Yelena was close but the Black Widow came up on top. You didn’t understand them. One minute you thought you had them figured it out but then you were thrown a curve ball and someone would join the group through your understanding. Still, you were jealous that they had this for so long and you knew you were a part of it now, so why were you jealous?
*
Yelena found Y/n right away, it wasn’t hard she chose the spot to be out of the way. So she could sit back and observe what was happening around her. Yelena saw her doing it at the Bartons. She walked over to the teen, who was sipping on a Shirley temple Natasha made for her. “Are you not enjoying the party?” Yelena asked, sitting down next to her. She was drinking a mojito.
“No I am,” the teen said. “I don’t know.” Yelena nodded.
“You do this thing,” Yelena said, slowly not wanting to offend the girl. “You stay on the outside of any social gathering and just watch. I’m not sure if you realize you do it.” She nodded, sipping on her drink. Yelena watched her ponder what she said.
“I guess I’m still trying to understand all of you,” she said, looking at Yelena. “I think I have you all figured out but then something like this happens then I don’t understand.”
“What are you trying to figure out?” Yelena asked. Again she didn’t answer right away.
“I guess,” she said, slowly. “I’m jealous.” Yelena waited for the girl to continue. “I know I’m part of this now but sometimes I wish I had this with my own family,” she looked at Yelena. “It’s just -”
“Complicated,” the teen nodded.
“Emotions are stupid,” she mumbled, finishing her drink. Yelena chuckled.
“Yes, they are. But they are a reminder that we are free.” The girl smiled, nodding her head. Before she could respond, America ran over to them.
“Hey,” she said. “We are going to hang out on Peter’s floor. Do you guys want to join?” Y/n nodded. The elevator ride was a little crowded as they rode up.
“I invited MJ and Ned,” Peter said, walking onto the floor. “Do you want to watch something while we wait for them?”
“Sure,” Kamala said, sitting down on the couch. “I’ve been off-world for a bit, catch me up on all the funny videos I’ve missed.” Y/n sat down on the floor with her back against the couch as Kate connected the phone to the TV. She pulled up Youtube and played a video of a dog riding a skateboard. Once the video stopped, she passed her phone to America. Her video of choice was a compilation of Avenger Interview moments where the team was goofing around or when they messed up. The video pulled a laugh out of the young girl. Next, it was Peter, he put on a video of pandas being clumsy around their enclosure. It continued like that, Kate’s phone being passed around the group, and a chorus of laughter followed each video. The elevator opened and MJ and Ned walked out. “Yes!” Kamala said, throwing her hands up in the air. “Let’s play truth or dare!”

Tumblr media
synopsis : even after the death of tony stark, he remains in his two daughters
warnings : tony’s death (i think that’s it), just overall angst with a lil fluf/comfort, unedited or proofread, this idea literally just came to me and i had to write it out ig
Tumblr media
the backyard of starks cabin was filled with superheroes and loved ones, all chatting and laughing about. you could hear sam and bucky playfully arguing around the grill, beers in hand.
bruce, carol, and thor sprawled out talking about their space travels, with thor’s signature loud laugh. inside, pepper and laura were finishing up some of the food. clint and his kids (including little miss kate) were sat in the living room fighting over who gets to play the next round of mortal combat.
all in all, everyone was having a good time. the night was settling down and you and your mother brought out the cake. morgan, who’s been floating around everyone throughout the night was glued to your side, eyes wide and ready to cut the cake.
everyone had gather outside, smiling as you, morgan, and pepper sat around the cake. they started singing happy birthday, some going the more ‘normal’ route while others did their own thing (thor).
“happy birthday to you, tony stark, happy birthday to you!”
you three leaned in blowing the candles while everyone cheered. pepper cut the cake and morgan and you helped pass it around, conversations being picked up again.
“uncle bruce! uncle bruce! look what i can do!” all eyes turned to the little stark as she began to recite all of the elements of the period table. you and your mother watched in awe at the little girl. she reminded you all of him so much.
when you were younger, everyone told you how much you and your father were like twins and now, you could say that about morgan, too.
after reciting the periodic table, and getting a bunch of cheers, she went off to spitting facts about different elements.
“palladium is the 46th on the table, and it’s atomic number. it was discovered by william hyde wollaston, and then, grandpa howard used it to power his arc reactor at stark industries, and then, dad used it for his own arc reactor, but because it made him sick he had to redo the this allll over again, and he had to replace using grandpas notes!”
“that’s right, morgan, good job sweetie!” pepper gave her a kiss on the side of her head. you shook your head at the memories of your dad going of his shit and how (when you finally figured out what was going on) you gave him a lecture of a lifetime.
bruce chuckled, “i’m not even surprised, the stark gene lives on!” everyone laughed, agreeing. both you and your sister were gifted from a young age, just like your father, and as much as you wished he could see it now, like he saw it with you, you know he’d be proud of how his girls were growing up.
your eyes stung, tears creeping up, but blinked them away. this was a time for celebration, no need to cry. glancing over at your family, human, android, god, and all, you were thankful for them all.
happy birthday, dad.

Nick Fury & His Children
Fury reminisces on when his kids became his kids. Plus a cute Father’s Day moment.
—————————————————————————————————————
"You know you can't just take in random strays from the street that you feel sorry for." Coulson said out the blue one day.
Nick scoffed. “I do not take in strays.”
“With all due respect sir, you do. Hill, Romanoff, Danvers, even Rambeau because of Danvers. They’re all strays you’ve taken in.” Phil said matter of factly.
Fury sighed. He knew Coulson was right. “Well, if no one else is going to do it..." Fury trailed off. In his defense, he wasn’t trying to take them in, they just sort of became attached to him and he didn’t mind. It all started in 1995.
————————————————————————
Carol Danvers landing on Earth was an experience Nick Fury will never forget. Watching an alien autopsy, getting his eye scratched out by a flerken, and going to space we’re just part of the excitement of that experience. However, the most memorable part was meeting Carol herself.
Carol was bold and brave, something Fury admired about her. She was compassionate, something he saw when she was reunited with Maria and Monica. (He definitely thinks her and Maria have something going on, but he wouldn’t pry…at least not yet.)
Seeing her fly off to help a universe full of people who needed help, filled him with a sense of pride. The impact she left on him led him to name his initiative after her. Something to remember her by.
A few months after Carol’s departure, Maria Rambeau contacted him about creating an agency to monitor extra terrestrial and extra dimensional threats, he helped. Of course it was from the shadows (he can’t have many people knowing his connection to Rambeau, it wouldn’t be safe). She later named the agency Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division, or SWORD for short. He would give her the names of a few people he trusted, and gave her advice here and there but she had the whole running a super secret government agency thing down and well he was proud of her too.
It was 2000 when he saw both of them together again. She had come down to visit the Rambeaus and Maria called him telling him Carol wanted to see him. So he made the trip down to Loiusiana, Goose in tow. Carol made sure to tell him about all her adventures and he tells her he’s proud of her, but of course it’s when they’re alone, can’t have Maria or Monica seeing him this soft.
The smile he gets from her warms his heart though.
Then he and Monica subtly (it’s definitely not subtle at all) hints that she should tell Maria how it feels because watching the pine over each other is “sadder than Mufasa’s death in the Lion King” - Monica and he agrees.
Fury spends a few more days with the Rambeau-Danvers before he has to get back to SHIELD, but before he leaves he catches Carol kissing Maria and smiles to himself. Finally , he thinks, I thought it would take the end of the world for them to confess their feelings.
The next time he sees Carol is 2007, when he introduces her to Maria Hill.
————————————————————————
Now Fury didn’t go out of his way to pick agents for SHIELD, but Maria Hill was different. He picked her up from the Marines when she was honorably discharged at 22 and by the age of 24, she was one of his best agents, quickly rising through ranks. Fury only knew what she put in the files, and what his background check told him, but that didn't tell much about her home life, only her career in the Marines. When she became leader of strike team Beta, she was described by her peers as a hard ass and an ice queen who got the job done and kept them safe. However, Fury knew there was much more to Maria than what she let on. One night, he found her distraught in a boiler room, and realized he had another stray.
He didn’t say anything when he saw her, just hugged her till she stopped crying. She immediately tried to compose herself to her stoic soldier persona and apologize out of embarrassment but he stopped her.
“This isn’t the first time I’ve had to console someone in a dark room at 4am.” He’d told her. She looked at him confused, and raised an eyebrow waiting for him to elaborate.
He sighed before speaking. “This doesn’t leave this room but I have a…well I guess she's basically my kid, Carol. She’s away right now, but when she visits sometimes she gets nightmares and I find her in a similar state to you. Anyway, I’ve learned a thing or two about helping crying people in the middle of the night. You don’t have to tell me why you were upset, but you do need to talk with someone.” Maria nodded, digesting the information.
“My father died. He was a homophobic son of a bitch who hated me from the day I was born because my mother died during childbirth. I hated him, and what he put me through but the fact that he got to die without giving me any apology, hurts. He was also the last connection to my mother, he was never a father to me, but he was all I had of her.”
“For what it’s worth, Hill, I never would’ve known you came from a home life like that, you’re controlled, caring, and calm. I’m proud of you and the agent you’re becoming. You’re gonna be running this place one day.
That night, Nick vowed to make sure he’d never find Maria like that again. So he mentored her and when she was 25, Maria was promoted to Deputy Director and she finally met Carol. Something Nick slightly regrets because Carol told him the story of how he lost his eye and now Maria can’t look at him without smirking.
A year later, Maria was overseeing a mission that Clint Barton, codename Hawkeye was on, and he brought back Fury’s final stray, Natalia Romanova, codename Black Widow.
————————————————————————
When Fury sent Barton to kill the Black Widow, he expected 1 of 3 outcomes: Widow kills Barton, she severely injures him (she’s an assassin after all and Barton’s hand to hand is questionable) or he comes back with confirmation that she’s dead. He didn’t expect him to actually bring her back.
Seeing her in person was a little startling. He couldn’t believe a woman this small took out some of his best agents. While he was berating Barton for being back a deadly KGB assassin, he had Maria interrogate and assess her.
(“She’s defensive, guarded but she also seems defeated. She didn’t say much but she did say she was from The Red Room. I asked her to elaborate about her time there, but she refused. Wouldn’t say anything else until she knows what’s going to happen to her.)
After Barton plead her case, he ultimately decided she should stay at SHIELD, for her own protection and because her skills proved she could be useful.
Hearing all the things she endured during her time at the Red Room was one thing, but seeing her relive it during her deprogramming was something he would never want anyone to experience. Sometimes he could still hear the screams she let out, they were loud enough to be heard from the hallway. That day, he made a promise to himself she’d never have to go through anything like that again while under his protection.
A few months after her deprogramming, he found her asleep on the couch in his office. He would have called Clint or Maria to get her but they were on missions. A thought did occur to him though, a highly trained assassin who should have woken up when he entered the office, stayed asleep. She was comfortable with him. When he heard about what the General made her endure, he wasn’t sure if she would ever trust him or feel safe, which was something he’d hoped for (because he does try and make SHIELD as safe as possible for his agents) but didn’t expect to come so early. He did the only logical thing, covered her with a blanket and started doing his paperwork.
When she woke up a few hours later, it was because Maria burst into his office looking for her. Natasha jumped up, embarrassed (she tried to hide it but he could tell). He told Maria to wait outside his office and asked Natasha to sit in one of the chairs.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean-" she started. She looked scared, as if she did something wrong.
"Do you feel safe here?" he'd interrupted.
"Huh?" she asked confused.
"Do you feel safe in my office? Around me? Is that why you fell asleep in here?" he clarified.
"Yes," she said in a small voice.
"Okay." he replied.
"What do you mean 'okay'? Am I not in trouble?"
"No, Natasha, you aren't in trouble. I'm not going to punish or reprimand you for finding a safe place, be it the nest or my office. Besides, you aren't the only one who deems this a safe space. I don't know if they told you, but Maria and Clint sometimes sleep here, that's why I keep a blanket here. I try to make SHIELD safe for all of you, and if you feel safe here, then that's okay." he explained. He watched as she absorbed the information she was just given.
She just nodded. "Maria's probably walking a hole into the ground pacing out there, so you're dismissed." she got up from her chair and left. He faintly hear "Hi Ria", before the door completely shut.
Guess I have another one. He thought to himself.
————————————————————————l
After the fall of SHIELD in 2014, he gave the location to Maria R. and Natasha, told them to come visit him and Maria, who was staying with him, when they had time. However, when all his children did come to visit, he had been in the house alone. He woke up to the sound of whispers and clanking and grabbed the gun he kept under his pillow. He looked at the alarm clock next to his bed. 3:48 am, it read. I'm supposed to be dead and I can't even sleep in peace. he rolled his eyes at the thought. He slowly crept into the hallway, safety off the gun and ready to shoot the intruders if needed.
"Be quiet! You're gonna wake him up!" he heard a familiar voice say from the kitchen.
"Tell that to Carol and those clunky space boots, I'm surprised he didn't hear us land." Natasha's voice became clear as he walked closer to the kitchen.
"Both of you shut up, you're acting like children." he heard Hill's annoyed voice next. "If I knew you two were gonna be acting like this, I would've left you at the tower!" she complained further.
"Hey!" Carol and Natasha whined in unison.
Nick decided to stop peaking around the corner and make his presence known. "What the hell are all of you doing here? Do you know what time it is?"
All three of them jumped and turned to look at him, sheepish grins on all their faces. "This was supposed to be a surprise but those two don't know how to be quiet." Maria said
"Surprise for what?"
"Well, it's Father's Day and you've basically been a father to all of us, so we decided to surprise you today." Natasha explained.
And no matter how hard he tried to fight it, he couldn't stop the megawatt smile that took over his face.
"Oh my god he's smiling and its an actual smile; not that happy smirk he does." Natasha marveled astonished.
"Quick someone take a picture!" Carol urged.
"On it!" Maria quickly snapped a picture.
He chuckled at their antics. "While I do appreciate the surprise, next time can you do it at a decent time?"
"But, you wake up at 5:45 every morning, it was now or never." Nat shrugged.
"Maria sends her love, and a present from her and Monica." Carol told him.
He just shook his head and gave them all hugs. He watched as they excitedly shoved gifts in his face that they wanted to get opened first.

"Ok, so maybe I do take in strays but I wouldn't trade them for the world." he admitted to Phil.
"Aw that's sweet. You're going soft on me boss?" Coulson teased.
"Leave before I give you paperwork or something." Fury grumbled.
Coulson just laughed before walking away, probably going to see his own strays.

The Precipice of Lost Memories
Summary: In the aftermath of the camping trip that Darcy, Carol, Kate, Natasha, and Yelena went on where they found a meteor, there is finally going to be a gala thrown to celebrate Darcy’s findings. However, with the meteor’s connection to the Kree, Carol is now forced to become Darcy’s bodyguard. Old threats resurface and new friends are made.

“Y’know, as grateful as I am for your protection, can I say something and you not take offense to it?” Darcy asked abruptly, leaning closer to speak to Carol so that she could be heard over the hubbub of the party around them.
It had been a few weeks since Darcy made her discovery of Kratorium, and she had been able to submit a sample to the government to be officially viewed and considered. They had processed it quickly, and they officially announced it as a new metal with Darcy being responsible for the discover. Tony had made the decision to hold a gala to celebrate her work with a small sample of the meteor being placed in the center of the room to display Darcy’s findings.
“Lou, if I was going to get offended, I would have already gotten there when you said I was like an overbearing helicopter parent,” Carol deadpanned, and Darcy shook her head quickly.
“I’m sorry, okay? I just… I don’t know. It’s been two weeks since the meteor landed and you’ve been following me around everywhere,” Darcy explained, exhaustion reading in her gaze as she looked at the blonde. Carol sighed, nodding.
The fact that Darcy had found the meteor made her a target. Kratorium happened to be a metal that was heavily sought after by the Kree, and it had been a primary goal of many missions that Carol’s old team had taken on. It was an energy source and something that the Kree highly valued. Carol knew that the Kree couldn’t be too far behind, and it was only a matter of time before they sought it out.
Since Darcy’s work was potentially attracting a very real threat, Carol had been assigned as her bodyguard. Darcy was a primary target now, and the Kree would be after her if they did not find the meteor first. It was Carol’s hope that when they came, Carol would instantly be there to take them on and squash the fight out of them.
And if Yon-Rogg showed up… Well, she figured she would deal with that when she got to that point.
Carol could not help but feel like something was going to happen at this party tonight. She was on edge, and she was not planning to leave Darcy’s side even once that night.
The good part was that there would likely not be any sort of disguises on the part of the Kree. They would probably either come in with a bang or try to sneak attack, and while the latter option made Carol uneasy, she figured that she had the advantage because she was trained in the art of recognizing their uniforms from a mile away.
“Trust me, it hasn’t been something I’ve relished. I’ve figured out way more about you than I ever would have wanted to,” Carol replied after a moment, raising her eyebrows as she thought of all she had learned during her time having to guard Darcy.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Darcy questioned, narrowing her eyes. Carol shrugged, taking a swig of the drink she had gotten.
“I’m just saying, I really didn’t need to know that you put hand sanitizer under your arms when you forget deodorant,” Carol pointed out tiredly, leaning against the bar as she looked out over the party.
  “Look, it’s only sometimes!”
“Thankfully,” Carol deadpanned, and Darcy sighed, rolling her eyes as she looked back at the party scene before them. Carol scanned the faces around, trying to catch sight of any unnatural-looking people that could be Kree.
“Woah, D, you look amazing!” a voice suddenly fondly declared from nearby them. They both looked to the side and spotted Kate in a purple pantsuit. Darcy was currently in a maroon dress.
“Hey, Kate! You’re not too bad yourself! Hoping to pick up a rich boy?” Darcy joked, and Kate huffed, looking slightly embarrassed as she looked around to try to ensure that no one had overheard the scientist speak. After all, there were tons of people paying attention to her since she was the woman of the hour, and everyone was trying to get a chance to talk to her at least once that night.
Carol smiled, looking at the kid fondly as she noted that Natasha and Yelena were following after Kate not too far back from her, Yelena muttering something to the redhead as Natasha largely kept her attentions on Kate. Natasha was dressed in a pretty black dress and Yelena was in a creamy-white pantsuit.
“Wow, Yelena… You actually clean up nice,” Carol complimented, unable to help her smug grin as she eyed the girl. Yelena shot her a glare, unimpressed despite the compliment.
“I always look nice,” Yelena replied, and Carol raised her hands in a placating gesture.
“Oh, of course. Definitely,” Carol agreed, pretending to be unconvinced just to mess with Yelena a little.
Natasha let out a soft sigh, regarding the people in the party as she glanced over them and studied the guests as she took a sip from her drink. Carol leaned in closer to her to try to keep people from overhearing.
“Haven’t seen anything yet,” Carol stated, and Natasha hummed in agreeance.
“M’kay… Keep a look out,” Natasha told her, speaking softly around the rim of her glass. Carol shrugged.
“It’s what I’ve been doing for two weeks now, and so far, all I’ve seen is way too much information about Lou’s personal hygiene habits,” Carol quipped, and Natasha glanced at her playfully, getting a little too much enjoyment out of her disgust. Carol drew back, refocusing her attention on the room around them.
To her surprise, as she straightened, she realized that there was a couple and another woman behind them approaching their group. Carol instantly tensed up just a bit, examining them carefully.
They did not appear to be a threat, but there was something about the couple that carried something almost warrior-like in the way they carried themselves. There was a definitive discipline to their movements. The woman seemed far more closed-off than the guy, who seemed as if he was dying to speak.
However, the darker-skinned woman behind the both of them seemed relatively easygoing and actually appeared to be texting on a phone or at least working it with considerable ease that would be typical to only a human.
Carol reluctantly let herself relax just the smallest bit. If they were Kree, they would not have even known how to use a smartphone. Despite that, she could not help the slightest bit of distrust.
But to her utmost surprise, the guy did not seem to be primarily focused on speaking to Darcy, instead glancing repeatedly at Kate while pausing for politeness’s sake to speak to Darcy since the entire thing was being held in her honor.
Carol assured herself that this entire thing was not necessarily out of the ordinary. People had been coming to talk to Darcy all night at various points, congratulating her or asking questions about her findings.
“Hi… I just wanted to take the time to congratulate you on your find,” he expressed, offering a small bow, and Darcy looked at him as if he had sprouted two heads. The woman who had to have been his girlfriend remained upright but nodded to Darcy, agreeing with him.
“Thank you. I appreciate it,” Darcy answered, nodding to him somewhat oddly. He offered her a smile.
“Hey, are you Kate Bishop?” the guy questioned, eyeing Kate. Kate’s gaze glinted with something that was almost akin to recognition, but Carol could see that she was having a hard time placing exactly where she knew him from.
“Hi! Yeah, I am. And you are?” Kate questioned, and he nodded to her, a twinkle in his eyes that was oddly innocent and reminiscent of a kid as he extended his hand to her.
“Danny Rand. And this is my girlfriend Colleen,” he introduced, and Kate’s eyes widened a little as she shook his hand and then shook Colleen’s.
“Oh, gosh, I knew I knew you from somewhere! You’re like Mr. Rand’s son, right? Partners with the Meachum’s? You came back from the dead not too long ago,” Kate pointed out, grinning as she looked at him.
The woman standing next to him was eyeing her carefully, and largely remaining quiet as she offered the group a onceover. Carol instantly felt herself on-guard about these two. She was mostly certain they were not Kree, but the past couple of weeks of being constantly vigilant had made her a little paranoid.
“Yeah. That’s me,” he chuckled, smiling kindly as he regarded her.
“Your mother was arrested not too long ago, wasn’t she?” he questioned, sympathy in his eyes as he looked at her, and Kate shrugged, seemingly a little taken aback by the sudden question.
Carol could see Natasha bristling a little, preparing to step in and stop this conversation if it started to make Kate too uncomfortable. Carol noticed that Yelena was paying quite a bit of attention as well and seemed to be on the same page as the redhead.
“Yeah… She was involved in some things that… Well, they just weren’t too good,” Kate tried to vaguely explain the entire thing without going into it too far. She obviously did not want to talk about this too much, and Carol did not blame her at all.
“Was it the Hand?” Danny asked, his eyes narrowing a little as he suddenly looked far too interested. Kate looked at him in confusion, furrowing her brow, and Carol glanced between the two of them as she readied herself to step in if necessary. Of course, she probably would not have to given the fact that Natasha looked ready to put a stop to it herself.
“The Hand?” Kate asked, and Colleen shot Danny a warning glance. He instantly started backing up, a slight nervousness in his gaze.
“Don’t worry about it, it’s not too important,” Danny shrugged, shaking his head as he attempted to dismiss the entire thing.
Kate was about to speak once more, but the woman from behind Danny and Colleen suddenly got off the phone and interrupted, stepping up with them and looking at Darcy first as Danny had done.
“Hi, I’m Claire. Congratulations on the discovery,” the woman from behind them greeted, a smile on her face as she remained easygoing as Carol had assessed her to be. Darcy nodded to her with a smile.
“Thank you! It was kind of a group effort,” Darcy looked at the girls around her, and Kate smiled, her attentions lingering on Danny as his comment about this Hand thing doubtlessly remained lodged in her mind.
However, she seemed to decide to leave that alone at least for now.
“So did you figure out anything about what your mother was involved in?” Danny asked, obviously not leaving his own need for knowledge alone. Kate looked at him oddly.
“Well, she was charged with murder,” Kate explained, laughing slightly nervously, and Natasha returned her attention to him, staring him down.
“Why do you ask?” Natasha questioned, stepping in, and Danny shrugged, opening his mouth to speak. Colleen interrupted him before he could talk, offering an explanation.
“He just has an interest in her because she was someone that worked with Harold Meachum, his father’s business partner. He read a few of the files on her after she got arrested because he was pretty sure he had seen the name before in some documents he’s signed in the past,” Colleen explained carefully, and Natasha looked at her carefully, nodding to her as she accepted the answer.
However, Carol knew that Natasha was far from actually believing the other woman, but the reason she had let it go was because she had accomplished her goal in making them stop questioning Kate about something she was far from comfortable with discussing with total strangers.
“Umm… Nice party you guys are having here,” Danny tried to make small talk, and Darcy nodded.
“Yeah. My boss threw it for me.”
“Who’s your boss?” Danny asked, and Darcy easily answered him.
  “Tony Stark.”
“Ah… How long have you been working for him?” Danny questioned, and Yelena narrowed her eyes as she finally spoke up.
“Do you have some kind of sticking your nose in other people’s business problem?” Yelena asked, laying it out there bluntly for him, and Natasha pinched her side softly, trying to stop her from saying such things that were so rude.
“Umm, sorry. I didn’t mean to offend. I’m just curious, that’s all,” he expressed, holding his hands up in a placating gesture.
“Yeah, well, you know what they say. Curiosity kills the kid,” Yelena declared.
“Don’t you mean cat?” Danny tried to clarify, and Yelena glared at him.
“I said what I said,” Yelena shot back, and Claire raised her eyebrows, letting out a breath as she shared a glance with Colleen.
Carol looked out over the crowd, checking once more. She had a strange feeling for some reason, and she was not sure why. It made her even more uneasy than she had been before.
After a brief moment of calm, Carol started to let her guard down.
But then the window suddenly shattered.
The guests screamed, ducking and taking cover, and the heroes in the room simply readied themselves. Even Danny and Colleen did not look too terrified. Claire, on the other hand, looked a bit more nervous.
Carol narrowed her eyes, realizing that they had finally come.
  The Kree.
And at the head of them, Yon-Rogg.
His eyes instantly zeroed in on Carol, and he smirked wickedly.
“Vers… How nice to see you again.”
“Can’t say the same for you, unfortunately,” Carol declared, watching his every move. He was standing behind his group of fighters, and they were all decked out in armor.
He tilted his head, eyeing her.
“I’m assuming you know why we’re here,” he stated, and all of the people in the room were frozen, just watching the exchange and not knowing what to do.
“Well, probably not to have a drink and catch up,” Carol sarcastically answered, and he chuckled, shaking his head. Carol moved forward, preparing to fight, and to her surprise, Danny and Colleen were flanking her.
“You still have that same sense of humor. I guess we’ll find out if you have that same amount of uncontrollable emotion, too,” he pointed out, and Carol clenched her jaw.
“You still certainly have that same punchable face,” Carol shot back, and he narrowed his eyes with a smirk before looking at his men.
“Don’t leave here without the meteor or its precise location. Get to work,” he called, and they all withdrew their weapons, starting to walk forward as they came toward Carol.
The people around them started to panic and disperse, and Tony leapt into action to take care of them.
Danny got into fighting position alongside Colleen, the both of them on Carol’s right side. Carol glanced over at them, worry and confusion instantly gripping her. These people were definitely not cut out for fighting the Kree. Even though they appeared to be experienced in some amount with martial arts based on the well-practiced appearance of their stances, they still would not stand a chance against the aliens.
“I hope you’ve got a Plan B or something, because Jackie Chan-ing it isn’t going to cut it for this,” Carol pointed out, trying to offer them some manner of warning, and Danny looked over at her briefly before sharing a glance with Colleen. Colleen offered him a small smile before looking ahead of them at the enemies.
“You’d be surprised,” Danny answered cryptically.
Yon-Rogg smirked, moving away as he disappeared into the crowd of people that were trying to escape. Carol furrowed her brow, her nostrils flaring as she decided she would catch up with him in a moment, needing to take out the Kree so that none of her people got hurt.
They then quickly moved into the fight, Carol blasting powers at several of them as she shot them back into the wall. Carol punched several of them, using full-force as they cracked the surfaces that they crashed into.
One that she grabbed and threw went toward the broken window that the Kree had come in through, and they went flying out.
Tony was guiding civilians out, guarding them as they went, and Steve was trying to fight several of them, having come in to interfere from where he had been remaining undercover. Natasha and Yelena were pulling off an assault of their own, fighting in close proximity as they threw punches and worked off of each other’s momentum to take people out.
During the chaos, Kate had gotten a vantage point up higher and was working on picking them off with her arrows, attempting to pierce their armor.
However, as soon as one of her arrows landed in the leg of one of the enemies, she quickly found out that whatever armor they were wearing had some manner of forcefield, and the arrow was sent shooting out back in the direction it came.
The arrow lodged itself into the wall directly next to Kate’s head, and Kate’s chest heaved with the fear, her eyes wide as she gaped at the arrow that had landed terrifyingly close to her face.
As Yelena stabbed one of them in the gut, she stopped as she stared the man right in the eyes. He grinned cruelly, and she was shot back along with her knife as she rolled across the floor.
“Yelena, I think they’ve got forcefield armor or something!” Kate called somewhat shakily as she got down from her vantage point. Yelena grumbled under her breath before replying aloud.
  “No kidding…”
“Yelena, are you okay?!” Natasha called as she hurried over to help her up, and Yelena groaned as Natasha pulled her to her feet. Kate ran to them, looking at the both of them in concern. Natasha gazed over at Kate, examining her wordlessly as she checked for injuries.
“Yeah… My pride’s not doing so great, though,” Yelena complained a little, and Natasha just huffed in reply to her, happening to stop long enough to look in Carol’s direction. Kate followed her gaze, and she gaped at the scene before her.
“Woah,” Yelena muttered, gaping at the other blonde as she breezed through the fight.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen her that… powerful,” Kate admitted.
Carol was glowing unnaturally brightly from her usual luminescence, and she knew it was largely to do with the emotions she was feeling right now. It was taking everything in her not to singe full-on holes into the Kree.
Carol turned to face the rest of them after the ones she had successfully taken out, and she watched as a sword that Colleen had somehow gotten her hands on came flying out of her hands as she was knocked back. She had just stabbed one of them, and Carol quickly came to the conclusion that they must have been using the Kratorium for new armor, using its natural forcefield-like qualities for their own protection as they had discussed doing for so many years.
Carol narrowed her eyes, shooting the one that was approaching Colleen. The woman crashed through the wall, hanging partially in the building and partially outside, and Colleen looked over at Carol from where she was on the ground.
Colleen nodded to her, and Carol offered one in return. She looked back at the scene, trying to spot where Yon-Rogg had disappeared to. She had wanted to clear some of the Kree to help the others, and now that she had, she needed to check the primary target.
It did not take her long to home in on him.
However, she swiftly realized that he had cornered Darcy and had a gun drawn to shoot her with.
Carol narrowed her eyes before darting forward, the golden glow surrounding her blasting people out of the way. She landed just in front of Darcy as Yon-Rogg was about to pull the trigger, and as he pulled it, it simply crashed into Carol’s chest harmlessly, her powers protecting her.
She looked at him, nothing but utter stoniness in her gaze as she stared him down. He just stared back at her in surprise, still holding the gun.
  “My turn.”
She blasted him as hard as she could, his body flying as he was sent out of the window.
“Are you okay?” Carol demanded, turning toward Darcy swiftly as she took in the bleeding place on her head from where Yon-Rogg had knocked her to the floor. She did not have time to stop for too long, but she needed to make sure Carol was alright.
“Yeah, I’m fine…. I just… I think I might be sick,” Darcy commented, and Claire was suddenly nearby the both of them, a first aid kit in her hand. Carol had no clue where she got it from, but she was not about to complain.
“Don’t worry, I’ve got her,” Claire assured Carol. Carol nodded, glancing between the both of them before stepping back and away.
“Woah…. The one day I didn’t think to bring my taser, amiright?” Darcy tried to laugh and make it into a joke, her voice shaking which only served to further anger Carol at the man who had dared try to hurt one of her people.
“You’ve probably got a concussion if you’re feeling sick to your stomach. If you need to throw up, just try to aim to the side of you,” Claire explained, and Carol could hear Darcy gagging, Claire’s medical assessment being proven correct.
Carol simply snarled as the protectiveness swelled within her so strongly that pure rage was filling her, stalking toward the window as she glowed brightly.
As she went, she could not help but notice that there were a few other sources of bright light pouring in around her. She dulled her powers just a little as she looked to the side. She quickly noticed Danny with two glowing golden fists, effortlessly blasting through the enemies. Carol raised her eyebrows before turning to look in the other direction.
She quickly realized that Colleen also had a glowing fist, her sword glowing in unison as she took out enemy after enemy.
Carol supposed the both of them did have a Plan B outside of karate. And a good Plan B it was.
Carol levitated out of the window, flying over to where Yon-Rogg had been blasted. Carol slowly stopped glowing as she approached him where he was currently standing. His eyes were practically glowing under the moonlight, and the gleam in them was nothing short of wickedly evil.
“Hmm… I remember this from before. From when you were too much of a coward to face me without all of the help,” he risked.
“And I distinctly remember telling you to go home and give your people a message, but I guess we both have pretty different memories of that day, huh?” Carol bit at him, walking toward him as she tilted her head and eyed him coldly. It was taking everything in her not to completely blow his head off.
“Oh, please. We were never afraid of you, Vers. You never came,” he spat in return, daring to laugh just a little. Carol tilted her head as she paused momentarily in her advance.
“I chose to have mercy on your people. Looks like that was a mistake,” Carol almost growled, narrowing her eyes.
“So confident with your powers… So reckless. I wonder what would happen if you didn’t have the lightshow to back up your threats,” he smarmily challenged, and Carol looked at him, unphased despite the fact that his words still managed to get to her even all these years later.
“I guess we’ll never have to know the answer to that question,” Carol shrugged as she tried her best to force a sense of nonchalance, advancing upon him.
While she had grown to embrace her emotions and the power they had, she also treasured the outcome of holding them back just until the right moment.
Unfortunately, he did know that she was mad, and he was on the prowl despite being the one that was backing away from her. He watched her carefully as he gauged what he would say next to her.
He was seeking to rile her up, and it was easy for Carol to see. Granted, it was definitely working, but she was thankful that she had gotten so much more experience since last time she dealt with him. She was now even more prepared to handle his low blows.
“Face me, Vers. Face me like you couldn’t before. Like you still can’t!” he challenged, glaring at her as he finally paused. Carol looked at him carefully, stopping as she waited for a long moment. She was doing her best to center herself as well as she could.
She slowly let all of her powers melt away from her, leaving just her in her usual form except in nicer clothes than usual given the fact that she had dressed up for the party. Carol approached him carefully and leisurely, and he smirked a little, far too pleased with himself for presumably getting to her.
“Fine. I’ll face you without the lightshow,” Carol assured him, offering the smallest of smiles. She then suddenly launched forward, grabbing him around the neck with one hand firmly as she held him in place, pulling him down so that he was looking her in the eyes.
“But no promises about the parts of the package that don’t involve lights,” Carol raised an eyebrow with a smirk as she firmly punched him in the gut, knocking the breath out of him. She then delivered several punches to his face that were not quite as strong but still left a definitive mark behind.
She then grabbed him by the throat once more, him heaving as he tried his best to regain his breath. She narrowed her eyes at him, leaning it a little more closely.
“And by the way, in case your memory is running a little on the short side like some other parts of you… It’s Carol now,” Carol corrected him before launching him up high into the sky with the sheer force and power of her punch. She watched as he came freefalling back down to the surface, and as he screamed, close to hitting the ground, she flew up and grabbed him by his leg just before he hit it.
He remained completely still before finally looking back at her in horror.
  She smirked.
“Now. Shake the poopy from your pants, baby boy, and we’ll take a nice walk to call your men off and give them one last chance to walk home free,” Carol told him. He nodded swiftly, his throat bobbing as he swallowed hard. She dropped him on the ground, and then proceeded to land, grabbing him by his collar as she lifted him back up and onto his feet.
She flew him back up through the broken window, seeing that several of the Kree were downed. Unfortunately, several of his squad were still going, and it appeared that Colleen’s and Danny’s respective glowing fists were officially out of juice.
“Hey, dipwads!” Carol yelled, and the Kree turned to look at her, murder in their gazes despite not understanding the slang. They understood the spirit behind it, and that was good enough.
However, as they realized she had their leader, they suddenly looked far more respectful.
Carol held him up by his collar.
“Looking for this?” she asked, and they all just stared at her, not sure what she was going to do next.
“Here’s how it’s going to be. This guy is staying with me, and you all are going back to your planet. And to be super clear, you will never touch the face of this planet again. Because this one is mine,” Carol venomously staked her claim. They looked at one another, and a few of them looked like they might try something.
“And if anyone is getting any ideas, well,” Carol trailed off, shrugging as she looked at Yon-Rogg.
“I’ll take care of you all personally. And I won’t be holding back this time,” Carol warned, and they all looked terrified. They turned their attentions to Yon-Rogg, not sure what to do, and his face remained sour for a long moment.
  He finally nodded to them.
And with one last glance amongst themselves, they gathered their injured and they jumped out of the window, fleeing to their ship wherever they had hidden it.
Steve came over to Carol, looking at Yon-Rogg as he furrowed his brow. He met eyes with her momentarily.
  “Is this—”
“Yep,” Carol answered simply. She had told him about Yon-Rogg, and needless to say, he was very much not a fan after all that the man had done to his girl.
Steve narrowed his eyes at him, anger burning in his eyes.
“I can take him,” Steve told her, and she smiled softly, leaning in and kissing his cheek just to rub it in Yon-Rogg’s face that she actually was moving on with her life and had gotten a life outside of the one that the Kree had fabricated for her.
He gaped at them, and Steve grabbed him, dragging him away rather roughly. Tony joined the both of them, offering some manner of sarcastic quip about Steve needing a leash on him.
Carol smiled softly before looking at the group that had gathered near her. Natasha had a gentle look of tired happiness on her face, and Yelena was even smiling fondly at her. Kate had a goofy, wide grin on her face from where she was standing on the other side of Natasha, apparently still riding the adrenaline rush from the fight. Colleen and Danny were standing nearby as well, breathing heavily.
Carol then looked over at Darcy where Claire had helped her to her feet to come and see. Based on the very unhappy look on Claire’s face mixed with concern, it was doubtlessly at Darcy’s own insistence.
However, after just a moment of Darcy looking at Carol, she pushed away from Claire, walking over to Carol. Carol grinned at her, and to her surprise, Darcy suddenly hugged her, her much shorter form collapsing against her.
“Thank you,” Darcy expressed, and Carol chuckled warmly after getting over the initial shock, wrapping her arms around Darcy in return.
“You’re welcome, Lou,” Carol told her gently, squeezing her softly for a long moment.
When Darcy pulled away, Kate reached out an arm, wrapping it around her as she gave her something to lean on. Carol straightened, looking at the group before centering her attentions most primarily on Danny ass he remembered his glowing fist.
“Hey, that was some pretty amazing fighting, karate kid,” Carol complimented Danny, and he huffed, smiling in reply to her.
  “Thanks.”
“Have your fists always lit up like that?” Natasha questioned, looking at Colleen and Danny. Colleen shrugged, somewhat out of breath as she gazed at the redhead.
“Not really… It’s kind of a long story,” Colleen finally settled for saying.
“Trust me, we have time,” Yelena told her, and Colleen offered a grin to them.
“That’s good, but let’s discuss it on the way to the hospital. She probably needs an actual examination to make sure I didn’t miss anything,” Claire explained, pointing at Darcy where she was currently leaned against Kate.
They all started to head out, and Carol smiled as she let out soft, deep breath.
It was all taken care of. Darcy was safe and her work remained where it should be.
Carol would never let the Kree take anything from her again.
