tlou hbo s1 ep9 thoughts (w spoilers)

really did love the scene we got with anna i’m just upset that we didn’t get more!! it’s so symbolic to have ashley play ellie’s mother and that moment felt cheapened by the fact that we still know so little about her. why not get to know her, watch her life and how the outbreak impacted her, see more of her relationship w marlene so that when the moment comes where she has to die we know just how much that hurts! there is so much more they could’ve done and i’m mad that they chose to rush through it

okay i’ll stop the rant and talk about what i liked about it now. really loved how much of that classic ellie attitude shines through in anna’s lines, the spunk was inherited i guess. and i really love that you can tell just how much love ashley poured into anna and therefore anna pours into ellie, she is so careful with her and insistent with marlene about taking care of her. ellie was so so loved from the beginning and it is so evident in everything anna does

especially loved how insistent anna was about telling marlene she cut cord before she was bit. it was a flat out lie but she was so intense about it that i almost believed her for a sec despite having just watched the scene. she is so strongly protective of ellie

joel’s goofy dad side really came out this episode every little moment is just him trying to get a smile out of ellie. the line with the dynamite really cracked me up he’s tryin so hard

watching ellie drop the ladder i was sitting there screaming at joel like GET OUT THE WAY ur about to get conked by a ladder!!! lol

joel’s admission about trying to kill himself,, it surprised me at first but hoo boy that hit. i like that it almost felt as if he HAD to tell ellie, like it clawed it’s way out of him. it’s his time to finally admit out loud how much losing sarah hurt, but also how much ellie means to him. and seeing them letting themselves be so vulnerable with each other made my heart ache

we got the apocalypse joke so actually this is the best show ever it did nothing wrong

i am a bit sad that they didn’t have the whole chase sequence with joel carrying ellie out of the hospital. i get that it probably works better in the game but idk i think they could’ve gotten it to work. that scene is just so loaded bc it’s like you have her and you’re almost there and the tension and fear is so high that when you escape all you feel is relief and happiness that you saved ellie. would’ve liked to have seen that translated into the show

the extra little bits of joel’s lie were fun, especially when ellie asks if marlene was okay. i almost feel like in the game ellie could sort of write off the lie easier bc it was a generalized thing? but since joel adds the extra details here and specifically sort of half lies about marlene for some reason to me it feels even more painful. idk did a bad job of explaining that but yeah i really liked the additions

i know i’ve complained about how they’ve been using pt2’s score for this first season so much but playing ‘unbroken’ after joel lies to ellie is like smart but also so mean. like i’m already dead on the ground you didn’t have to drive the knife deeper

also also i just loved that whole sequence in general, joel just wants to make sure that ellie knows that she’s not some replacement or that joel doesn’t view her as sarah but as her own person and he’s a dork about it but it was so heartfelt

okay so. i’m not happy that they confirmed ellie kills riley tbh. i was never a fan of that idea in general bc it didn’t feel right to me. and even despite my own personal opinions about how i think ellie leaves riley i think there’s something to be said about having ambiguity around it. leaving it open let’s people form their own thoughts and feelings about it, it engages them and makes the story feel more personal, so confirming what actually happens just feels cheap to me.

the other thing is too, i knew they were gonna confirm it as soon as marlene kills anna bc they were setting it up to be such an explicit parallel. they could’ve still left riley’s fate open ended in that final convo and people would’ve come to the same conclusion bc of the setup beforehand, but at least this time there’s like active engagement and analysis happening with the audience. i just don’t think there was a need to actually have it explicitly confirmed. idk i just did not like it at all.

overall tho i’m glad the ending stuck so close to the original. i liked the changes they made to joel’s dialogue in the final scene, it was like a little surprise

so anyways kinda can’t believe this show is real tbh like wow they really took my favorite game and turned it into a show. and obviously i have some complaints about it but overall it was still super good?? this is a thing that happened??? wack. it’s gonna take a bit for it to sink in that it’s over for now. i’m excited for season 2 tho, bella ramsey is a goddamn power house and they’re gonna fuckin crush part 2’s story

I guess we'll have to see who they cast as Madeliene cause if they get a 30 year old actress it wouldn't be TOO creepy if there's romantic undertones (although I definitely don't think they'll show anything of a sexual nature) but if she's like in her 40s.. idk. Book Claudia was also found grieving her dead mother so there is the added component of her desire for a missing mother figure. Is show Claudia going to see her as a sister to replace what she views Louis as her brother? I think we assume there is no romantic component to her relationship with Louis cause he's gay but I don't think it would be out of the realm of possibility if there was still some hint of that on Claudia's side.

Its also kinda interesting right before they all get arrested by the cult, Claudia tries to get Louis to leave with her and Madeliene, which Louis responds to by saying no he can't go back to the same setup as they had with Lestat yet Claudia says it would be different. Idk in the show if that'll mean she believes it would be more equal because they won't have this overbearing patriarch and there is no sexual component to any of their relations to each other?

it dont rule out amc claudia having those oedipal feelings neither but so far what ppl seen in the show is: 1) claudia in her diary recalling her turning referring to louis as a beautiful angel like ohh she wonders why beautiful angels would be crying in heaven . her turning scene from her pov is fascinating cuz it looks like louis tried to turn her ?? the bizarre frantic c section vibes of it all. anyways. and 2) after following louis & grace claudia believes her purpose was to be louis’s sister, not lover, so maybe thats why ppl take the platonic interpretation on her end?? idk . louis needs to see claudia as his sister, his knight, his daughter, to keep himself emotionally grounded. madeline complicates that, the prospect of claudia finding emotional [& other] needs/fulfillment from somebody else unsettles him. louis knows he would not be the central locus of this trio, it would be claudia. and louis may even feel that hes responsible for these 2 girls . recall how show wise he said he didnt do what a man’s ~supposed to~… n in books europe brought his longing to be ~feminine~ to be desired and beloved [likee even more. gah damn girl] . he wouldnt receive that if claudia is the common chord tying madeline & louis, and played a role as to why he chose the cult over claudia’s needs in this moment. i feel that being mindful of the fact that bailey bass is exiting her teens/in her early 20s, a good madeline cast wouldnt be in her 40s per se but be someone who would be close enough in age but also mature enough /has defined features to where the visible difference in maturity between the characters they play physical form would be prominent. like i said maybe they could play up the emotional dependency aspect of things too like claudia wanting a sister, a mother of her own idk idk

I am curious, how do you feel about Claudia from interview with a vampire?

Thanks for asking! I think she's a great character. And I just want to reiterate that it's been too long since I've read the book so I can only comment on the movie and show in any detail (spoilers for both, and a little minor one for the books):

I think I love her slightly more in the movie because I think her story works a little better as a young prepubescent child, and Kirsten Dunst knocked it out of the park. Plus I just prefer the movie's like... relationship between the three of them. I love that focus on her being trapped in a child's body, her outrage about it that comes across as somewhere between a betrayed adult and a tantrumming child, and her plotting Lestat's death unilaterally as a response to the unfairness of her existence. Lestat is a dick, but he comes across as more of a victim in the movie because there's almost no effort put into showing why they feel the need to kill him, and I like that. It feels like lashing out, not self defense.

Claudia is fantastic in the show too, and Bailey Bass is absolutely amazing, but her tragedy is more that she keeps getting stuck in abusive situations, and I just fundamentally find that less compelling. But in her favour, I adore her serial killer trophy collector thing, I love how the show balanced her victimization with her sociopathy, she's very funny at times lol, and while I prefer young child Claudia, I thought that they really thoughtfully considered the effects of aging her up and she worked quite well as a young teen as well (aside from the utterly and completely unnecessary sexual assault, which is a strike against the show, but also hilariously easy to ignore because it never comes up again lol.) She's also more fleshed out in the show due to getting more time to develop her, and I think she's a very compelling character in it.

Also just as a little addition, I can't comment fully on the books but I did see an excerpt from one of them in a tumblr post a little while ago which was a bit from her diary, in which she describes killing Lestat only because she felt like she had to kill one of them to satisfy her desire for revenge/justice/something like that, and chose Lestat because she figured Louis would be easier to manipulate. And I LOVE that. Idk if there's more context to it or if it contradicts other stuff as Anne Rice was wont to do, but I'm very into that angle.

Your arms rested on the cold concrete ledge of the stone wall that spread miles around Jackson, peering down to the long drop below. Today you were finally back doing assignments again, starting with guard duty on the west gate, which was always really quiet. You saw Ellie for the first time in 2 weeks, leaving out with Dina for patrol this morning. That gash on your back handicapped you for a while, waiting for it to heal enough to do labor again. You chose to spend that time self loathing under your cozy blanket till Jesse came to yank you out of your funk. He knew the gist of what happened on that fateful patrol but not all the details. He invited you out tonight with Dina to try to get you out of the depression but wherever Dina goes Ellie follows and you couldn't stomach the thought of speaking to her again.

You were readjusting the snug fit of the rifle around your shoulder when you heard the guy next to you get relieved from duty, hoping your time to leave was also coming soon. The thing that caught your attention was the name muttered in the exchange. You glanced over to a larger man, replacing the former. He was older, had a clean cut beard and well kept hair, with eyes that sunk with age. His build gave off a strange overwhelming comfort. He nodded to you with a tight smile before settling into his spot, maybe a couple yards away.

"Hey uhh-" He started, obviously trying to grab your attention. "Did Ellie come through here earlier?" Your eyebrows furrowed at the question. Why was he asking about Ellie? Was she in trouble? What makes him think you even knew her?

"Yeah, this morning." You answered, deeming it none of your business. He only hummed in response before returning to look out at the landscape in front of you guys.

"She should be headed back soon." He said, seemingly to himself. Now curiosity scratched your brain more than you cared to admit.

"What's your name?" You spoke up, trying to sound as polite as possible.

"Joel."

Joel. That's right. Joel is- or was Ellie's guardian. She's talked about him a numerous amount of times to you, told you more stories than you could count about their adventures. The nostalgic gloss over her eyes and her soft smiles proved she cared about this man very much. She mentioned how they don't talk much anymore, signaling to you that something must have happened.

"Ellie has talked about you a lot." You smiled and he immediately perked up. "She showed me a couple of movies you liked."

"Yeah," He smiled to himself as he glanced down to a... broken watch? "You're Y/n right?" You nodded in confirmation.

"She's talked about you a couple of times too. Seems like she enjoys your company a lot." Joel continued and it was only then that you realized he had a thick country accent, his voice heavy as it was velvety. It suited him well honestly. Ellie said some words with a country accent, which you guessed she picked up from him since she said she was from Boston. You chewed on the inside of your lip thinking back to how long it's been since you heard her sweet, soothing voice. You missed it. It was like every word she spoke was dipped in delicious mellow honey that smoothed the ridges in your brain, leveling out your anxious thoughts. God- you missed her.

"Did she show you that song yet?"

"What song?" Your eyebrows pushed together, interest peaked.

He stared at you blankly, eyes screaming that he might have said something he shouldn't have. "She asked me about some cords to a new song she was learning... maybe I mixed it up." A short laugh escaping his lips before he rested against the railing. Mixed what up, you still didn't have a clue.

"I haven't talked to her in a couple of weeks. I got injured on our last patrol together."

"She hasn't come to see you?"

"Nah," You scoffed. "I don't think we were close like that."

"Doesn't sound like Ellie. That girl, you gotta watch out for her."

You forced out a tight laugh, extremely confused on what Joel was talking about.

"She's been hurt a lot in the past. I can tell she really likes you but patrols can be tricky. She can be overly protective and stubborn." Joel squinted at seemingly nothing, almost like he's speaking on a memory.

"That makes two of us." You scoffed choosing to dig your feet into the small patch of rocks pushed to the ledge, feeling miserable at the recollection from patrol. "I don't think we got along very well."

"Don't worry about it too much." He stood high, now moving close to you. A strong hand laid on your shoulder, bringing you instant comfort. Joel smelled like wood and leather and you’d be lying if you said it didn’t ooze of fatherliness. "The way she talked about you makes me think she sees you as something more than a stubborn patrol partner."

But you knew that already. You already knew the girl was in love with you, and you were falling hard for her. The real problem was how you were going to handle it.

"I don't think I can be anything more than a stubborn patrol partner to her." You held down the lump threatening to burst in your throat. You didn't know why being next to Joel was making you so vulnerable but a voice screamed in your head to trust him with your life.

"You keep thinking like that and you'll never see you the way she does." His voice was soft, gentle, and caring. Your hands trembled as you turned to him, feeling like you'd erupt into tears like a volcano, because he was right. This silly, fucked up rule system you had was only ruining your happiness. It was destroying your chance at loving the one thing you cared most about. He offered you a soft smile before removing his hand, pivoting to head back to his original spot.

"Heard there's a bonfire tonight," Joel started.

"Jesse invited me." You said softly, not really sure if you wanted him to hear you.

"Ellie talked about going. Try speaking to her." He finished, not acknowledging your past sentence. Before you could protest, a tall stuffy man was standing near you, hinting that your time was up. You nodded as you adjusted your rifle again, moving past the man swiftly. You slowed when you were passing Joel, not exactly sure what to say. He turned to look at you when your brain drew a blank, settling on giving him a soft smile with a nod, hoping he'd understand your thanks.

Jesse waved you down from across the lawn. The moon hung high in the sky as you gazed around the lot, scoping out the field filled with bodies. Some were sitting on logs, huddled around a large fire. Others were snuggled up in pairs, scattered around the yard, to which earned an eye roll from you. They all laughed and chatted idly with each other, all engaging in their own conversations. The bonfire was in the middle of the woods, surrounded by tall trees, wrapped in Christmas lights, that gave you some sense of comfort.

Jesse was sitting cradling a cup on a thick fallen tree , spread at least 20 feet long, sitting around 10 other people. You expected to see Dina accompanying him but she was nowhere in sight.

“How you feeling champ?’ Jesse smiled, standing to give you a hug.

“A little tired, Guard duty is so boring.” You answered, sighing into the taller man's shoulders.

“I missed you man! How's your back healing?’ He gave you one more soft squeeze before letting you go and seating himself back on the log. You guessed the ‘I missed you’ comment was about seeing you in society again since he did visit your messy shell of a house some days ago.

“ It’s alright. Doesn't hurt much anymore, sometimes if I sleep on it wrong.” you smiled, sitting next to him. It was nice being back out in the world around people your age again. “Wheres Dina?’

He answered only with a nod and a jerk of his thumb to somewhere behind you. Pausing, you already heard Dinas roaring laugh, sending an all knowing smile to Jesse before turning around. You couldn't help the smile that curled your face as you saw Dina throw her head back from laughing so hard. She was dancing with Ellie, and it made your heart tighten. She looked so beautiful under the soft, warm glow from the fire. It was like a picture painted in your head. Ellies head turned to the side, probably from embarrassment, exposing her slender neck. She smiled shyly and her face flushed. Now the only thing that filled your mind was placing a million soft kisses on it.

Dina turned back to you and Jesse's direction as her face lit up more than it already was, Ellie’s gaze also following. Dina’s hands fell from her shoulders as she pulled away now making her way to Jesse- or maybe you- oh god definitely you. Her arms swung open, gesturing you to stand for a hug, which you happily obliged to. She wrapped her arms around your shoulders, hair brushing your cheek as you leaned in.

“Y/n! I haven't seen you in forever! How are you? I heard you got hurt on the last patrol, are you okay?’ She shot out questions faster than you could answer as you pulled away.

“Yeah, I'm all good now! It wasn't that bad honestly.” You smiled at her, mind running wild thinking what all Ellie told her about the patrol. Speaking of Ellie, you glanced at her direction, seeing her looking back at you shy and awkward just like the first time you saw her. The smile slowly creeping onto your face was reflected by the girl in front of you. She moved quickly, wrapping her arms around you tightly. Your brain didn't even register the hug for a second, it was too busy trying to figure out if Ellie still liked you. Her familiar scent comforts your senses immediately.

“I'm glad you're okay, Y/n.” She breathed into the side of your head. Your mind all but screamed at you to tell her you never stopped thinking about her. Tell her you're sorry for the way you acted. Tell her you missed her so much. Tell her you wanted her to come see you.

“I am now.’ Was the only thing you could manage to say, melting in her hold. You could stay like this forever, forgetting the guilt that poked the back of your head as she held you like you were the only thing on earth, soft warm hands roaming your back. It was cut far too short as she pulled away to look at your face, like she hadn't seen it in years. Her beautiful green eyes flickered between yours, a soft smile playing on her lips. You couldn't help but to smile back, her face was so mesmerizing, you could literally stare at it all day.

“Ellie!” Dina called now sitting next to Jesse. “Where is your guitar? Jesse says he thinks I can't play.” She smirked.

“That's because I know you can't play.” He laughed next to her.

“It's over by the fire.” Ellie answered, stabbing her thumb back in that direction.

“You brought your guitar?” You asked, drawing her attention back to you.

“Yeah, I bring it to every bonfire.” Her hand rubbed at her neck.

“You gonna play something for me?” You teased, nudging her with your elbow.

“She's been learning a new song if I remember correctly.'' Dina brushed past, head turning to wiggle her brows at Ellie, whose face was flushed red.

“Oh! I met Joel!” You chirped, now remembering the conversation with him earlier.

“Really?”

“Yeah! He seems like a really sweet guy. First thing he said was ‘Ellie come through here?’” You faked a deep voice and country accent, trying to impersonate the man the best you could, earning yourself a laugh from Ellie.

“Yeah, he can be a bit… protective.” Her smile melted down to a mildly bothered look.

“He told me about a song you were learning.” You opted to change the subject as it creeped into territory you'd rather not cross.

“I guess I have to play it for you now, huh?’ Her smile returned as she joked, knowing your request before you said it. Your eyes widened, surprised she guessed your next words. A loud strum of strings grabbed your attention as Dina poorly tried to show her skills. You laughed at Jesse's pained face, downing whatever was in his cup. “Hey where are the drinks anyways?”

“Over here, come on.” Ellie answered brushing your wrist like she wanted to hold your hand before pushing forward. You followed her closely to a cooler filled with ice and beer. Your face twisted at the thought of drinking that disgusting alcohol.

Ellie chuckled. “ I'll take it you don't like beer.”

You shrugged, smirking at her. “Its my favorite”

“Sarcasm, we're getting somewhere.” She smiled at you before turning to a small white table with a half empty vodka on it. Shots were something you could get with. You grabbed the bottle as Ellie pushed two cups to you, pouring and taking one quickly. You coughed, throat burning in protest as Ellie downed the other cup. You eyed her, bottom lip catching slightly under your teeth, as you shot a finger up. “One more.” You laughed as she threw her head back, wanting to protest but you knew she would do it.

Three shots later and now she's chasing you around the fire as you waved one of her shoes above your head. How you got here was fuzzy. You just remembered trying to help her out and tie her shoe before the impulsive drunk thoughts won, telling you to snatch it right off her foot and run for your life. Your lungs crushed as your legs took you as fast as they could, laughing uncontrollably. Ellie yelled a string of curses chasing behind, laughing as hard as you were. You slowed to gasp for air when she crashed into you, sending you both tumbling to the soft grass below. Her hands were immediately on you as she apologized profusely asking you if you were okay. You sat up quickly, world spinning around you, eyes wide and senses numb, you turned to Ellie. She was crouched next to you, must have got up quickly from the fall but you couldn't tell because time wasn't a thing in your drunken state.

“Are you okay?” She looked deeply concerned as her eyes roamed you for any injuries, a hand steady on your knee. The fall happened so fast and you honestly couldn't feel anything except for how hot you were. You cracked out a laugh for no real reason.

“I can't feel shit Ellie!” Throwing your head back, you laughed until she slowly joined in. When you finally opened your eyes again she was damn near on top of you. Jerking back quickly, she lost her grip falling on top of your bent legs. It wasn't until you saw her arm stretched out in reach of your hand still holding her shoe that you were tossed into a laughing fit again.

“Did you think I let my guard down!?”

“Gimme the damn shoe!” She reached again, now sending you flying back as you held the shoe above your head. Her leg flew over yours quickly as she now straddled you, pinning you to the ground. You laughed till you couldn't breathe any more, arms flailing around desperately trying to keep the shoe away from her. You let out a high pitched squeal when her fingered grazed your stomach, wiggling wildly. There's no way she resorted to tickling. Your arms snapped to your sides as you tried to wiggle from under her. She snatched her shoe out of your hold as you screamed ‘Mercy’ but that didn't stop her. She continued to tickle you, now moving to your neck, under your arms, to your stomach, to even sticking a finger in your ear. You both laughed till your lungs gave out, gasping for air like there was no more left in the world.

She finally stopped, rolling off of you to lay by your side, chest rising and falling quickly as her mouth dropped and eyes closed, trying to collect as much air in her lungs as she could. All you could do was watch her like she was a piece in a museum. Her smile stayed as she turned to you, giving you that ‘you're the only person on the planet’ stare that made your heart flutter. Her eyes flickered to your smile, then back to your eyes, then your hair, then neck, hand moving to brush yours that laid beside hers. You pushed to your side, resting on your elbow as your other hand met her face. Her fingers immediately moved to rest on top of yours, now cupping her cheek. Then your lips met hers and the world around you stopped moving. Fireworks went off in your head, sparks flying in the background. The kiss was soft, gentle, reassuring.

You pulled away first, wanting to see her pretty face. Her brows pushed together slightly as she looked into your eyes for an answer. “But-” She stuttered out breathless and barely over a whisper.

“You wanna show me that song now?” You smiled down at her, and she slowly returned it, cheeks now turning a pretty shade of pink

Ellie sat with her guitar loosely on her lap, fingers grazing the strings. You knew she was somewhat drunk, you were even drunker. Your butt was cold as it sat on the hard ground, but she looked so beautiful as you gazed up at her. You guys were sat away from everyone else, in your own little world where everything was sparkling, Ellie was the light of your life, and nothing else mattered.

“I'm a bit drunk so I can't do much.” She smiled down lazily at you. Her fingers dragged down the strings and she cursed softly. “Wait, hang on.” She smiled and readjusted her fingers again, but you didn't hear anything wrong before, everything she did was music to your ears.

‘Darling, Id wait for you, even if you didn't ask me to.”

You'd be lying if you said her singing didn't snatch the air right out your lungs. She looked down at you so gently, with love in her eyes as she continued.

‘Tie a lasso around the moon, and bring it on down to you. Id bottle the feeling you give me. Shelve that stuff for years to come”

She coughed awkwardly and glanced at you, guitar relaxing in her hold.

“Thats all I’m doing since I’m drunk and I dont want to fuck it up anymore.” She laughed and her hand flew to the back of her neck. God this woman was so amazing it actually brought tears to your eyes. Her voice was so mesmerizing not to mention how beautiful the words were.

“Woah, are you crying? What's wrong!?” Ellie all but threw the guitar from her lap to move closer to you, hand moving to cup your face.

“I'm so sorry Ellie.” You cried, moving to wipe your tears, streaming down your cheeks. “Im sorry I was being so stupid on that patrol, you were just treating me like some child and I wanted to prove myself to you. I was being reckless and stupid and this is all so confusing because I like you so much but what if you die! I would give you the fucking world so please dont die- I cant handle it-” You exploded, words slurring together through the tears, shoulders sagging as she wrapped her arms around you. “You're like the most amazing human being I've ever met, Ellie, I like you so much- but you haven't talked to me since the patrol and I thought you hated me!”

“What? Y/n I could never hate you! Im like fucking in love with you- did you not listen to the song?”

“The song was so beautiful!” You threw your head back melodramatically as you continued to cry, which earned a chuckle from Ellie.

“Y/n look at me,” Her smile remained as she cupped your cheeks, forcing you to look at her sincere face. “I haven't stopped thinking about you since I’ve met you. You're like the most beautiful person I've ever met,” She paused and you mentally noted that she was definitely drunk.

“I just said that.” You teased.

“I-” She sighed. “Shut up and listen. I want you in my life. I'm sorry I got so protective on the patrol. I just didn't want you to get hurt and that's exactly what happened and it scared me. I didn't come see you because I blamed myself. I couldn't stomach the thought of seeing you injured because of me.” Some of her words slurred together.

“You didn't make the floor cave in you idiot.”

“No, but I made you feel like you needed to prove yourself. I’m sorry Y/n.” She looked like she was on the verge of tears at the confession and the world around you spun so violently, painfully reminding you that you were very drunk. The voice in the back of your head screamed to leave. Memory of Joel reminding you to put yourself first. Images of your brother covered in blood, lying dead in front of you. Ellie’s hand on your face reassuring you. This was all too much and your stomach screeched at you to get to a trash can immediately.

“I think I'm gonna throw up.” Was all you could manage to say before lifting yourself to puke behind the log.

as the sound of hushed talking filled the room behind the door, you sank into the cold marble beneath you. you were currently in the bathroom of your best friend Wanda’s wedding, and fixing up was proving to be difficult. your eyeliner kept messing around, your eyelash curler was broken, and you had forgotten to bring your makeup remover. “you all good in there?” Nat called out from behind the door, just as you were failing to apply your eyeshadow.

panicking as you didn’t want to trouble her, you responded quickly, “uh- yeah Nat, i’m fine! just doing my makeup!” you shouted back. “alright, let me know when you’re done!” she replied, as you could hear her slowly walking away from behind the door. hurriedly fixing up your makeup trying to make sure you looked somewhat decent, you sat up from the marble counter and smoothed out your dress, as you moved to open the large white door that stood in front of you. as the warm light of the reception filled the space around you, your eyes darted towards Nat, immediately wanting to greet your friend - and of course, congratulate her on marrying a fine piece of metal. as your feet carried you towards her, however, you felt one of your legs get tripped by what you could only assume was someones foot, and before you knew it, you were falling towards the floor.

until, however - you felt a strong arm firmly grab your arm keeping you stable, before pulling you back onto your feet. “hey, you alright there doll?” you heard the man in front of you ask calmly. getting a good look at him. you immediately noticed how pretty this man was - his hazel hair tied up in a soft bun, his beard looking freshly trimmed showed off his jawline flawlessly. he was dressed in a black suit- which very strongly highlighted his figure and waist - adorned with a short maroon tie. you could swear you’d seen his face before. bailey, was it? - no, that didnt sound right - billy, maybe? it definitely started with a B.

“you know, if you’re gonna stare at me for this long, you may as well ask me out to dinner first.” the man spoke, immediately pulling you out of your thoughts, as your face flushed red, realising you’d probably been staring at him for over 30 seconds. “shit, sorry, i must have hit my head or something,” you laughed lightly. “what’s your name by the way?” you asked, before moving yourself out of his grasp.

“bucky.” he responded quicky, shooting you a smile, which in turn, caused you to smile too. “my name’s-” just as you were about to respond, a bell began to ring, signalling a wave of people to walk over to the elongated table about 10 feet away. as you and bucky walked over to it, you noticed your and bucky’s names sat right next to each other at the table, and you couldn’t help but smile. sitting down in the wooden chair that had your name printed on it, bucky looked at it, before looking up at you. “pretty name” he whispered, as the bridesmaids began their individual speeches. “why thank you, my mother chose it” you giggled back quietly. you and bucky spoke for what felt like hours - what your families were like, where you grew up - anything and everything was asked at one point or another. your conversations however, got quite personal once the wine was rolled out.

“have you ever been in love?” you spoke softly, supporting your face with your hand, as your elbow rest against the table. you could see the gears slowly turning in his head, trying to figure out the implications of your questions, before shaking his head. “not really, no” he said before leaning back into his chair. “what about you?” bucky questioned, as you thought long and hard about the question presented to you. “not really,” you breathed out heavily before elaborating. “there’s been people who i thought i loved - you know, long term relationships where you think its gonna work out, but you get to a point where the words ‘i love you don’t really have meaning anymore - and that’s when i realise it was never really there in the first place. i guess i’ve just kind of given up on it.” bucky’s eyes widen, before taking another sip out of the wineglass that sat in front of him. “shit, thats deep” he said matter-of-factly, before sitting up straight.

“would you be willing to give it another shot?” he questions, his eyes gleaming with nervousness. your cheeks immediately flushed a deep red, as you held your cheeks in your hands. “yeah, maybe.” the words came out barely above a whisper, but bucky hears them and beams. reaching out his hand and intertwining it with yours, you both listen to the meaningless chatter around you, as Nat gives you a look from across the table. oh boy, she had questions.

Alright, so technically this is all I lie and I really only finished 17 of these in February, but I finished The Queen of Dauphine Street only 2 hrs into March and I didn’t think it was fair to bump it to then so I shoved it onto February’s. Either way, holy fuck! I read a lot of books! And a lot of these were chunkers, too!

Looking back at my wrap up, I read quite a few really good books. I thought I’d read a lot of middle of the road stuff but there’s quite a few 4 and 5 star ratings so huzzah! My favoritist of them all this month was Summer of Salt by Katrina Leno, though. If you have not read that yet then I highly recommend that you do. It’s witchy and atmospheric and handles such hard hitting topics in not only an original way but a totally respectful way. And it’s got a lesbian MC with an aro bestie who is the most badass! I loved it to pieces!

I ALSO HAD MY FIRST REREAD OF THE YEAR! Idk why I chose Hunger Games but I’m glad I did. I enjoyed the reread and I enjoyed reading it again as an older adult. I got to see more nuance and lack thereof. Plus, I rewatched the first two movies and holy hell can you tell the difference between the two. If I hadn’t known any better, I’d have sworn the first was an indie movie.

This month’s plans is to continue on the same way I always do: tackling my backlist. 90% of what I read in February was backlist so I think I’m doing pretty good. I HAVE 10 DAYS OFF FOR MY BIRTHDAY! So, you know what that means? Adult chores and reading. I’ve already started on my first TBR Rainbow book of the month, Dune by Frank Herbert, which is a book that’s been on my TBR for yeaaaaaars so I’d say I’m off to a good start!

Chandler Bing: if I really could only choose one!

2. who is your least favorite character in 1?

I never really warmed up to Abby, for some reason. Don't get me wrong: Paige Turco is incredibly talented, and there are aspects of the character that I respect (especially now that her story has come full circle). But Abby irked me, for some reason? Idk?

3. what is your favorite episode of 4?

3x10 Amends : Christmas miracles, Bangel, Xander camps out in the back yard, Christmas tree decorating, SNOW!? C'mon. That was magic y'all. 4x21 Primeval : Probably my favourite finale storyline: because it was such a love letter for the Scoobies to have them work as one Super!Buffy unit. 5x16 The Body : This episode got me through a lot of feelings after my mom passed. It's the most emotional, honest hour of television out there... imho.

Lucifer: Season 3! A lot came full circle that season between the characters and old storylines, I think. PLUS some of my favourite stand alones are in that season AND so is my favourite scene of all time.

Owen & Cristina, for sure. Meant to be!

4x02 of Lucifer: those two are trying so hard to make things work and then Lucifer jumps in front of the axe and THEN the scene between he and Chloe right after?? I lost my mind!! It's why I started watching the show.

Season 1 of Friends, as that is where my favourite episodes live! The one that started it all.

10. how long have you watched 1?

I started watching The 100 for the first few weeks it aired... then jumped on board watching live every week starting 5x01

(I watched up to 4x13 over the hiatus and HAD to find out if Madi was secretly a bellarke love child 😂)

11. how did you become interested in 3?

My wife and I used to watch ER together every week*... and in one of its earlier seasons: Grey's would air right after. Quite often we'd forget to change the channel after, and eventually Cristina Yang's sense of humor won us both over.

(*together as in: living an hour apart and watching at the same time, on the phone with each other lol)

12. who is your favorite actor in 4?

Anthony Stewart Head. Legend.

13. which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5?

The 100 is one of my favourite shows of all time. But Friends has a trump card. It's THE show. If I could only watch one the rest of my life, that would be it.

I've seen every episode of both, but Grey's: because it's been on TV for fifty thousand years.

15. if you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?

I think I'm the most similar to Tara & Willow from BtVS (bc Im cliche like that!): but to choose just one I'd to go with Willow. We share a love of tech and a corny sense of humour!

16. would a crossover between 3 and 4 work?

In 3x01, Buffy could have gone to Seattle instead of LA: and had the doctors from Grey's Anatomy help her through the pain of losing Angel. Sure!

OR: In "Normal Again" she wakes up at Grey Sloan Memorial instead of LA. Has anyone fanfic'd that?

Between Lucifer or Grey's? I have to again: give it to GA: on account of their EPIC cast size and their keeping me interested after 15 years (!)

yes this took me a long time to put together, and yes, you can read an explanation of each song choice under the cut:

1. Nature Boy - Aurora

this is the song that gave me the idea for this playlist - i realized “a shy wise boy who wanders out of the forest to tell you about the power of love” is 100% how people on this site see Hozier. i chose to use this version instead of the original by Nat King Cole because a) this was the first version of the song i heard and therefore the one that inspired me and b) Aurora has a nature spirit vibe in her own right, so she had to be on this playlist.

2. Two Turtle Doves - Alana Henderson

she was part of Hozier’s backing band on his last tour (cello and vocals), and her music has a similar morbid-folky vibe. you should check her out.

3. My Lagan Love - Lisa Hannigan & The Chieftains

he mentioned that this was one of his favorite traditional Irish tunes in this interview, and he’s often mentioned being a fan of Lisa Hannigan. i bet he’s heard this version.

4. Exile - Enya

couldn’t make a playlist about Irish fae royalty without acknowledging Enya. this song is structured similarly to My Lagan Love and i’ve always really liked it so it got added.

5. Stolen Child - Loreena McKennitt

this is a musical setting of a W.B. Yeats poem about being abducted by faeries. he loves Yeats and people thing he’s fae. it’s perfect.

6. Blood Moon - Saint Sister

they’re opening for him on his European tour, and this song has a particularly magical energy. i’ve previously put it on a witchy playlist.

originally, i started making this playlist on youtube so that i could add and reorder more easily than on spotify, and the version i had there was the one with hozier singing on it. enjoy.

8. Velvet Green - Jethro Tull

in the track by track video for “In a Week”, Hozier explains that the song is about two lovers who go off to the hills to “do what young lovers do” and then die there. this song is basically that, except without the dying.

this song references running into the woods and finding a wounded fox. that very specific image also shows up in “In the Woods Somewhere”, and it was too perfect a coincidence to pass up. also i’m a huge fan of Kate Bush, and this album in particular is one of my favorites of all time.

12. The Bailey - Loah

she co-wrote Someone New, and i felt the vibe of this song fit the playlist. you should check her out, especially her feminist anthem “Nothing”.

13. Carry Me Out - Mitski

a little reference to the Hozier-Hades thing, with the line about the spirits leading her down to the Styx. also, long dark hair, flowers, and death feature in this song. can’t imagine why i’d connect those to Hozier.

14. Mother - Florence and the Machine

the Hozier mythos is often tied up with Florence, so she had to be here. this song in particular has her asking to be turned into a tree and a bird, two things that Hozier has also sung about (”NFWMB”, “Shrike”).

15. Angel Owl - Little Green Cars

Stevie Appleby, one of the lead singers of this band, is one of Hozier’s close friends. he did the tattoo, designed the Hozier logo, and drew this comic about “In the Woods Somewhere”. couldn’t not include him.

just felt like it fit the vibe. not every song on this playlist has a deep reason for being on here.

17. Pressing Flowers - The Civil Wars

the imagery in this song is exactly the kind of thing i was going for with this playlist - “we were branches pressing flowers” “meet me in the tintypes of long ago”.

I met the Critical Role gang and it went... mostly okay!!!

So yes, it happened. I got my autographs from everyone (except Ashely cuz she is not there) from Critical Role! Below I will go into detail my interactions with each. Sadly, as I suspected, my nerves take over my memory and I have forgotten what they mostly said outside of the typical reactions and a few key moments, but here is how it went down!

Mary Elizabeth McGlynn - I was first in line for her and facing away from her and down when she came out behind the curtain to start and was not ready at all I turned around like the dramatic friggin Chipmunk. I kept apologizing for some reason and then I got her autograph! She was trying to remember the name of Allura, who I was cosplaying and she recognized, and I forgot what we first talked about but she was the first to sign the book! I told her how much I adored her work directing Cowboy Bebop and asked if she directed Tangled The Series (which I had read online she did) and she said yes and said how much I loved that! I actually chose to get a selfie with her which I didn't do for ANYONE else except Matt, which honestly IDK why it just felt like an impulse decision. At least it looks 1000x better than my Matt one... oh god. 

Sam Riegel - What compelled me to jump in and get Sam’s first, I have no idea. But I did. Anyway, this one went okay! I don’t remember much sadly, but I made a decision to tell the whole cast about my video editing and how they inspired me so much to get back into it and about my VFX video I did! I told Sam himself, the star, and he looked confused at first and I got nervous but I could tell when it clicked for him and he looked in SHOCK. He was like that, “that was YOU??? That was so good oh my god!” Pretty much all the cast had that reaction but only 3 are super memorable to me and he was definitely one of them. I remember he said something about how much hard work that must have been and to keep doing what I am doing or something along those lines. Then I tried quickly saying how much I love his voice work like Teddie from Persona, and while walking away said I was excited for Ducktales season 2 and he seemed happy by that and we parted ways!! I am sure there was more nuance too it but again, I FORGOT A LOT FROM MY NERVES.

Marisha Ray - I did these signings in SUCH a weird order, but I decided to get Marisha next. The sad part is that the most memorable moment was Matthew sitting right next to her doing her OWN signings and he randomly pointed to me and said “Hey just wanted to say you did such a great job on your cosplay! You look amazing!!! ” And I pretty much died right then and there like OH MY GOD. Then I actually got her autograph and she was super chill. I again kept anchoring to the inspiration to do my video editing thing so I told the same story to her and she recognized the video too! For some odd reason, I can’t remember her reaction and this really bums me out. I do remember her saying something along the lines of keep doing my best when making my work, but I also remember the incredibly endearing smile on her face when walking away.

Brian W. Foster - He was super chill and personable! There is a reason he is a good host on between the sheets for sure. I made the same video editing inspiration schpiel, but I feel like I worded myself better with him that time around? He was also super surprised and happy to learn it was me too! Sadly, can’t remember much after that, but once again it was all smiles and sweet words because anything bad or awkward would have stood out to me... trust me on that one later. 

Taliesin Jaffe - Taliesin was such a unique interaction! Beforehand he was having some kind of deep and emotional conversation with the woman before me, and I heard him saying something along the lines as “it's been hard” and “I'm getting by day by day” and I my nerves were kinda overcome by compassion. When it was my turn to speak I said hi and while he was smiling he genuinely looked like he was about to cry???? I was starting to talk but I interrupted myself and genuinely asked if he was okay. He said yeah and that it was all just kinda overwhelming. I kinda forgot this middle part, though I feel like I did bring up the video editing thing. He recognized it too and said that the industry needs way more talented and passionate editors and emphasized how important they are. I can’t remember if it was HIM or TRAVIS who said this, but he said something along the lines of the industry really needing people like editors with how hard it is to do and how they basically MAKE the stories into movies themselves. The more I think about it the more I think it was Travis who said it... a lot of my interaction memories are mixed up from my nerves. Either way, I did something very out of character and asked if I could give him a hug. He had seemed so upset earlier and I saw that other woman give him a hug, so I told myself, hey if you are gonna get a hug from a cast member today, Taliesin is a great choice who would probably say yes (but I wanted to hug Marisha so badly too you have no idea, she was so sweet and endearing and made me feel better. Most others did but she was so huggable looking at the time) We hugged tight and I was on my way!

Liam O Brien - ... okay, things sadly got weird here and it kinda puts my mood down. I won’t lie to you guys, Liam seemed really off. Maybe he was overwhelmed by something or very reserved from being shy, but it seemed more like disinterest and... acting rudely? I feel kinda awful implying he was a jerk or something, but I did a really bad job trying to hold a conversation with him and I can’t even remember IF I told him about the video. He was very quiet, and seemed put off by my nervousness in some way? Like he did say something along the lines of “its okay we’re just people” but I barely remember if we made eye contact at all? I thought it was me at first, but I remember when looking up at him after a bit he was the one looking away a lot and I am unsure if I did something to make him uncomfortable or what. What really threw me off the most was his kinda strange remark about me saying how I grew up watching Naruto and loved Gaara. He just kinda nodded and said, “yep, I was a voice of your childhood” like... in disdain as if he has heard that 100 times before? Look... I am NOT saying everyone has to have the same reactions or super happy cheery demeanors (Ex. Taliesin) but something was so disconnected about all of it. Maybe I am only remembering the minor bad parts and am forgetting the good parts, but still. As much as I still love Liam for what he does, he was not having a good time that day and I can only hope I didn't make it worse or even somehow cause it :(

Travis Willingham - Boy this one has the highest and the lowest points. When meeting him I said how nervous I was with these and started rambling and it got pretty bad but he anchored me back in by doing Grog’s voice!!! I told him yes it helped and made me laugh. That was able to get me into saying how much I loved his voice work as Roy Mustang and others, and eventually, I got to my video editing schpiel and he had a similar reaction to Sam! Again, HE may have been the person to tell me everything about how hard editing is and how they are the ones that really make the film, not Taliesin. Then we parted ways... and I realized I had missed SO FUCKING MUCH. I didn’t get to tell him how much I empathized with him recently, or how Fjord was my favorite character, how my favorite acting he did was in Infamous Second Son with Troy Baker. Seconds after walking away I literally yelled “Oh I forGOT TO SAY HOW MUCH I LOVE FJORD” Like really awkwardly as he was already on to the next person but yikes. Great middle, horrible beginning/end.

LAURA BAILEY - I reached a point where I was actually SO nervous I was normal. Like, on the edge of tears but not really so I acted normal but was screaming inside. Luckily she was super personable and I told her she was my favorite voice actress of all time. She asked me what were some of my favorite roles and I was like oh god there are so many but I said Maka from Soul Eater was huge for me and how she was my first cosplay. She said I would make a fantastic Maka and I was so friggin happy!! Then I told her about my editing and Sam video edit and she was so friggin delighted and told me how the WHOLE CAST had seen them because they shared it with each other on a group text chat! She looked so happy and endeared by my words and encouraged me to keep doing what I do. I wish I could remember her words specifically, this is LAURA BAILEY we are talking about!!!

Matthew Mercer - Oh boy here is the big one. Everyone kept saying how he was a long talker and had long conversations with everyone so I was so friggin ready for that. Sadly, I think they started speeding things up with me and I didn't get that long convo. Still, Matt once again complimented my cosplay and I said thank you. I said I forgot the earings which really bugged me but he said if it helps he didn't notice! Then I revealed I almost cried over it and mentally punched myself because why the fuck did I say that out loud. Anyway I immediately went into my video editing schpeil, but I made sure to talk slower and more clearly since people said he made more time. I remember specifically saying thank you for retweeting it and then he recognized it and said how hard that must have been and how amazing it was. He went into this story about how got into editing himself a bit with using final cut pro and adobe after effects and how difficult and tiring it was for him to edit a project he was working on and commended me on how amazing the job was and how we need more editors out there to do that kind of work. I elaborated more on how much he and the rest meant to me and how they got me out of this rutt and helped me find a way to make something for myself and he held my hands real tight and reassured me. Again, WISH I COULD REMEMBER THE FUCKING WORDS, but he looked so happy and emotional for me and all of it felt extremely genuine. What a god damn sweetheart. Here is where things get bad and awkward tho... I forgot my selfie. I paid for a selfie and realized I had FORGOTTON to take it like 10 seconds later after the next person already started talking. I panicked and walked back to the guy managing the lines and he was like OH okay but I apologized to the people on line and him and he said “HEY GUYS are you alright with this young lady getting her selfie??” and they all were like YES and I felt embarrassed but better. Then he told Matt and he was like OH of course okay!! And I gave him my phone because I was confused and nervous and NOT READY or composed like I would have been before. I look awful with my neck way too far back, but it could have been worse... except the moment he took the photo I dropped my prop staff into my face and knocked my head back... I was friggin humiliated. He was like ah are you okay and I literally just said bye have a good day and rushed off almost dropping all my shit without looking at him at all. What a way for me to RUIN a perfectly decent signing... I hope he didn't think I was rude and understood I was kinda hugely embarrassed.

Will Friedle - Yes oddly enough Matthew was not my last signing like I wanted, Will had a different schedule so he was last!  Anyway I was kinda feeling bad cause I never watched Boy Meets World and I didn’t remember much about Kashaw other than he was kinda a jerk but a loveable one who was played really funny, and oh yeah he is RON STOPPABLE. So I refrained from saying and Crit Role stuff since the woman before me already asked all of that and got cool answers to (Vex and Vax would not be Zarha and Kashaw’s kid's names, he would let them have Teifling names) Anyway I was thrown off by him ROLLING A D20 outta nowhere and getting a 7. He rolled again so quickly and I said “Oh man a natural 1?” on the 7 because I didn't see it correctly, less than a second later guess what?? HE ROLLED A 1!! I laughed so hard I felt like I jinxed him! Either way, ALL my nerves were gone from that and it felt a lot better to get his autograph. I told him how much I loved Kim Possible growing up and Ron Stoppable, and how I always used to sing the naked mole rap with my family as a kid and how the bendy straw joke from the movie still kills me. It was way more relaxed then I expected. Then he said okay before you go let me roll and break the curse one last time. Right before he did he said you know what? YOU roll it and see if I could break his curse! I happily took it wishing for the best... I rolled a friggin 2. He said “well at least its better than 1″ and we were both so amused by it as I left! All things considering his went very well!! Anyway, that was my experience with CR autographs today! Some big highs, some big lows, and many content smiles and awkward silence. Overall I consider it a success... but barely. I did fuck up and missed most of their live show floor panel and I'm still kicking myself in the ass for that one.

he’s self-proclaimed king of the forbidden forest, but he also doesn’t like going out in them too much anymore ever since becoming a prefect because he doesn’t want to get in trouble if caught.

baby boi is bi bi bi, but he only.....kissed one (1) girl and that’s it kjdbcfdjsnd he’s? not shy or anything, but like...hey sometimes life happens and/or he’s hyperfocused on something else. he probably gets rly flustered when thinking ab other guys like that though bc he’s!! not used to it.

the fawley family was never one for fanatic blood purity, despite maintaining their own place among the sacred twenty-eight throughout generations. from former minister for magic hector fawley, to his son and daughter-in-law, to little gilbert. however they were quickly labeled blood traitors as years progressed. hector jr. and his wife, grace, taught their son the importance of acceptance. after all, they adopted a muggleborn witch and raised her as their own. these ideals and actions heavily clashed with the traditional pureblood beliefs, but the fawley’s paid no attention to the sneers and disapproving looks. they were happy and that was all that mattered.

with his sister being muggleborn, mr and mrs fawley thought it would be beneficial for both children to be acquainted in that world as well. a local playground in the muggle area, he and his sister would spend hours upon hours running around. often, he would pick nearby flowers and bring them to his mother with that bright smile of his. to this day, those moments are some of his favorite.

when his fifth year of hogwarts came around, gilbert was entrusted with a prefect badge. he still isn’t entirely sure how or why they chose him, because he thought there were better candidates, but that didn’t stop him from treating it with newfound pride. he also began working even harder in his classes, despite the occasional exploding cauldron in potions.......oops???? HE TRIES OK IT JUST.....DOESN’T ALWAYS WORK OUT. slug’s pretty patient with him, but like, also you can tell he’s #overit because c’mon gilbert goddamn you’re in sixth year now you can’t keep making silly first year mistakes sometimes :///

okay so like --- all in all, gilbert is ambivalent about the other timelines. on one hand, he thinks it’s interesting, but on the other it’s terrifying. he wouldn’t have minded getting the first timeline admittedly, though the mere thought of the second timeline gives him chills. with the war approaching in his original reality, who knew what could become of them? it worries him greatly.

but i mean again overall he.....doesn’t really care? it’s like eh....he’s the same, so is his sister & their family.......he’s kinda weirded out if his friends aren’t the friends he knows but.,,,, water off a duck’s back with this one lmao

TIMELINE ONE --- everything is pretty much the same??? he’s happy????? the happiest ball of sunshine???? still in hufflepuff, still a prefect, still a geek ass nerd who is president of the gobstones team...,,, it’s just gilbert minus the worry of a dumb war tbh

TIMELINE TWO --- it starts off exactly the same but when the war tipped in favor of the death eaters and they won?? hahahaha PAL. OH MAN. BUDDY. HE WAS SSSSSHAKING. not like oh my god i’m scared ( well, yeah maybe that too ) but like..............HECKA MAD. he’s never been really much of a fighter, and he’s the first to admit it, but he’s also not the type to sit back and watch shit like that? very >:(  ,,,,,,,with his family being blood traitors, it wasn’t much of a good time regardless that he’s pureblood lol

buT!! gil definitely 100000% snuck as many assignments back to selina as he could since it was recommended that muggleborns didn’t attend school for, uh, obvious reasons. and you KNOW mcgonagall helped him do it!!
