Orphic Hymn to Hekate
Hekate of the Roads, lovely dame,
Of Earthly, watery, and celestial frame,
Sepulchral in saffron veil arrayed
Pleased with dark ghosts
Who wander through the shade
Persian huntress, world’s key bearer we hail
On the rough rock to wander thee delights
Leader and nurse, be present to our rites
Propitious grant our just desires success
Accept our homage and the incense bless
Guide our fortunes, gift us with your grace
Daughter of Perses, mistress of silence
Goddess of moon and clairvoyance
Wanderer of the wilds, ever leading
Dogs and deer, and tides receding
Please hear our prayers, help us to be wise

The Evermore Grimoire: Greek Mythology
Hecate (Ἑκάτη meaning ‘Worker from Afar’) was the goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, moon, ghosts and necromancy in Greek mythology. She was the only child of the Titanes Perses (god of destruction) and Asteria (goddess of shooting stars) from whom she received her power over heaven, earth, and the sea. Hecate assisted Demeter (goddess of the grain) in her search for her daughter Persephone (goddess of spring), by guiding her through the night with flaming torches. After the mother-daughter reunion she became Persephone's minister and companion in Hades (the Underworld). Hecate was associated with the cypress tree which symbolised the Underworld and death in the old myths. She was also the goddess of borders and doorways, both physical and mystical. Dogs were also sacred to her, and thus she was associated with protection. When Phillip of Macedon besieged Byzantium, the Byzantines heard dogs in the street barking at the approach of his army. The Byzantines and Athenians defended the city successfully and such success was attributed to Hecate. In gratitude, the Byzantines erected a statue of the goddess.

Fresco de Hékate, Francesco Salviati c.1500
Hécate, Hekate o Ἑκάτη.

☽Hekate☾
Hekate (ancient Greek Ἑκάτη Hekátē) is the goddess of magic, theurgy and necromancy (necromancy) in Greek mythology. She is the goddess of crossroads or forks in the road, thresholds and transitions and the guardian of the gates between the worlds.
Offerings and Associations Stones: onyx, obsidian, moonstone, sapphire, hematite Herbs: dandelion, lavender Colours: black, silver Offerings: Olive Oil, Water, Fruits, Honey, Milk, Eggs, Garlic, Almonds Tarot: The High Priestess Animals: dogs, rabbits
Hekate assisted Demeter in her search for Persephone and guided her through the night with flaming torches. After the mother-daughter reunion, she became Persephone's minister and attendant in Haides.
Three metamorphosis myths describe the origins of their animal familiars: the black dog and the polecat (a mustelid pet kept by the ancients to hunt vermin). The dog was the Trojan queen Hecuba (Hecuba), who jumped into the sea after the fall of Troy and was transformed by the goddess. The polecat was either the witch Gale, transformed as punishment for her incontinence, or Galinthias, the midwife of Alkmene (Alcmena), transformed by the angry goddess Eileithyia but adopted by the sympathetic Hekate. Hekate was usually represented in Greek vase painting as a woman with twin torches. Sometimes she wore a knee-length girl's skirt and hunting boots, similar to Artemis. In statuary art, Hecate was often represented in three forms as the goddess of the crossroads.
Her name means "workers from afar" from the Greek word hekatos. The masculine form of the name Hekatos was a common epithet of the god Apollo.  “Hecate, whom Zeus son of Kronos honored above all others, granting her magnificent privileges: a share of both the earth and of the undraining sea. From the starry heaven too she has a portion .” (Hesiod -  Theogony)

How to pronounce "Hekate/Hecate/Ἑκάτη"
eh-KAH-ti
I've heard many a native English speaker pronounce the goddess Hekate's name in just about as many different ways as there are leaves on a tree and I thought I might try to share what I've learned.
Now, the spelling you see here of "Hekate" itself is latinized, so immediately we start at a disadvantage. The Greek spelling is Ἑκάτη and something you may notice off the bat is there are only 5 letters, not 6. Essentially, there is no equivalent for the hard H that we see in our latinized version of her name today.
To break it down then, what you really have is an "Eh" sound, not a hard "Huh" sound. Following this sound you have a long "Kah" sound like in the word "cot" and this is the syllable you will stress in her name. Finally, the last syllable is a short "Ti" sound.
I know that some English speakers may feel strange dropping the hard H from her name, so I've heard them create an amalgam that sounds more like "heh-KAH-ti." I think that's just fine, especially since Greek accents can be difficult for us to replicate without sounding odd sometimes. Being able to pronounce her name in Greek just makes me feel closer to her and I wanted to provide that opportunity to you as well. 🖤
