Tech's Helmet: Im finyish go fo Belta
So, a major plot point in Far Past the Ring is the simple fact that the layout and design of Tech's unique trooper helmet was copied, and taken back to the Ring Gate, where Belters have gone absolutely bananas over this fancy and ingenious design.
Belters live their lives in space completely, and having a helmet that is safe, comfortable, and practical, is crucial as life itself. In The Expanse, Belters often slap stickers or write their names on their helmets. I imagine, with more time and wealth, more decorations can take part, and it's a big plot point in the longfic, especially for Tro, pictured below in the bottom right.
Here's the OCs who have taken Tech's helmet design (which is called the 'Tekimang' style.
FYI: Tekimang is the Lang Belta word for an engineer, it literally translates to 'tech-man'! It becomes an ongoing joke that it's Tech's full name, lol.
Tumblr media
Front view of the helmets.
Sjael Drummer: A chemical engineer who focuses on creating synthetic and organic sweeteners for human consumption, Sjael’s helmet is covered in elaborate flowers and fruits that she works closely with. You will see strawberries, blueberries, vanilla, and blossoms from potato and carrot plants. They are done in mixed Ojibwe/Rosemaling style, to signify her mixed First Nations and Scandinavian Earther heritage. I also designed it to also signify her archetype as Persephone and Idunn (coincidentally, the name of her Mulan-class gunship), bringers and guardians of life and all things green and growing.
Timon Chapelle: Timon is a firefighter, through and through. His helmet is covered in almost brutalist paintings of flames and ropes, all in reds, oranges, and yellows. The ‘ropes’ on his cheeks are almost Celtic in design, as in some ways, he is a keeper of multiple facets of knowledge as a Belter elder.
Hobbs Chapelle: “If an elementary school kid designed a helmet”. Hobbs is obsessed with animals, especially his two pet cats, and becomes enamored with the idea of Wookiees and other sentient species after meeting clone troopers from the 41st. He not only has his cats' paws on his helmet's front, but a stylist design of Wookiee handprints and claw marks on the ears and visor, made to look like they were painted with mud. The circles on top of the helmet signify his homes of Ganymede, Ceres, and now Medina Station.
Tro Chapelle: A budding artist and high school freshman, Tro’s helmet designs is all over the place, as are her interests. Very much a teen's notebook style, a girl still figuring out her place in the universe. Her helmet's ears have the design of her great-grandmother’s ‘freedom quilt’ from Earth that was destroyed in the Ganymede attack. Her visor has her name in Ojibwe from the Drummer side. The rest of her helmet is covered in various paint jobs to symbolize elements of fire, air, water, and earth–things that she is thrilled to see now that she is on the station.

𝐑𝐔𝐋𝐄𝐒
Also, FYI, I am usually mobile bound and this is not my main blog, so I am not always logged in here. Therefore, it can take me up to a week or two to follow back at times.
i.   I’m mutuals only which means I only write & interact with blogs when we are both following each other. This blog is low activity so I will be fairly slow at times. I have a very busy personal life, so I tend to follow a very limited amount of blogs, for my own sanity and so that I can develop deeper, ongoing plots.
ii.  For my own comfort, I will not follow blogs that don’t have rules, a name & age requirement, or writing posted. Primarily rules — posted on your pinned post or somewhere easily visible/accessible. I do not interact with writers under the age of 21. Please do not lie about your age. I will unfollow anyone who is racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, uses white washed fcs/characters or is unjustly discriminative. If you regularly vague or attack other writers, I will unfollow.
iii.   Please do not godmod or metagame. I will also softblock if I have made several attempts to interact with no reciprocation. Feel free to refollow, but I will expect you try to engage first this time, around.
I don’t mind turning memes into threads but please ask first, or I will not reply. ( Everyone gets 2 initial freebies without asking ).
iv. I absolutely love OCs so give them to me! This blog is crossover friendly.
v.  This blog contains dark and potentially triggering themes. Please be safe! Some of which include: murder, gore, war, indoctrination, dismemberment, torture, death, child soldiers, etc. tagged cw/tw “the trigger”. Sexual content will be tagged cw suggestive.
vi. First of all, I respect everyone's ships. If I am not fond of a ship you enjoy, that doesn't mean you should not enjoy it freely! Ship hate is not tolerated here.
I enjoy dynamics of all types but I am little more hesitant with romantic ships. I just prefer to plot and develop our muses first to see if the chemistry is there before jumping into a ship. Please do not force or hint ships. Rather, if we are writing and plotting together and you think there is potential, just ask! The worst that will happen is I suggest an alternate dynamic.
Karitza is very closed, jaded and rough around the edges so she is not the best at relationships. That being said, I am open to toxic dynamics, I will not write abusive romantic relationships. And I don't feel comfortable writing hero/villain ships where one muse has tortured, abused or traumatized another muse.
FYI. I have integrated a lot of Karitza's star wars lore with a group of knight muses that I have heavily plotted with. I may mention them in my main star wars verses.

Reylo Fic Recs- TROS fix-it
I’m gonna be honest, I tend to avoid fix-it’s and post TROS stories, not because they’re bad, but just cause I like to ignore TROS if I can. The similarities to TROS range from a few characters, plot points, and/or locations to a literal rewrite of the movie.
Includes title(with link), rating, chapter and word count, and an intro. My favorite is indicated with a🦋
Savage Beauty Rated E/ 21 chapters, 78k words/ A year after Crait, Rey is finished with training and is helping lead the Resistance, while Kylo and the First Order continue to take over the galaxy; but there is something out there that neither of them can handle alone (it’s been a while since I’ve read this one, but it’s one of the best uses of a... certain TROS plot point that I’ve read)
the Skywalker actually rises in this one Rated GA/ 30 chapters, 121k words/ a rewrite of TROS, keeping the general structure of the movie but it’s just a lot better...🦋 (there are a few other ships going on here, just an FYI. Also, I thought this one was actually really funny)
we’ve got a story, a dotted line Rated T/ 8 chapters, 51k words/ The Force Bond continues to grow, while Rey wishes for a way to break it. She starts hearing a voice that offers to help, but should she trust whoever it is?
If you’re looking for a specific fic genre or trope, check out my masterlist and if you don’t see what you’re looking for, check out this post for more info on the types of fics I read and making a request!

On Approaching Characters of Fiction: Morality Vs. Humanity (aka. Blank Slates)
In this essay I will...
...Haha just kidding 😂
But in all seriousness, this is going to be a long post.
With my recent hyperfixation on Star Wars, particularly Reylo (both as a ship and separate characters) and growing awareness of the debates surrounding the Reylo ship, I’ve done some ruminating as I witnessed different approaches to the ship from even among my friends.
Beside one other person who fully boarded the Reylo ship around the same time as I did, I recently found a few within my existing circle who also liked it; but around an equal amount who hated it.
And as I saw some of the discussion surrounding the ship, I noticed two facets being displayed. But I’ll elaborate on those later. First I just want lay some groundwork for those who stumble upon this essay. If you don’t know me, I am a Christian. And there are many values and beliefs that you may find yourself disagreeing with. Now, I’d like for you to hold onto any judgment first and read along because I want to explain an interesting phenomenon I’ve observed since joining fandom spaces. I’ll probably inject some Christian ideas into my discussion as well, just as an FYI.
Now togo back, I saw two forms of thinking when it came to the Reylo ship.
The first approach is that the Reylo ship is inherently problematic, abusive, because (and this is not in a tone of mockery), “Kylo Ren treats Rey like garbage and ‘violates’ her in TFA, stalks her” etc. etc. This was actually one of the reasons I had hesitated in shipping the two several years earlier, precisely because this was the original vibe I had gotten from them in TFA.
The second one is way more positive, and, putting aside the popular emphasis on sex, the ship involves some...deeper character analysis (not to say the first approach isn’t deep, but I’ll get to what I mean in a bit). My view on the Reylo ship changed with TLJ, as I saw and witnessed the more complex interactions between them and I ended up hopping on the ship completely. My friend @geek-fashionista  provided a bit of insight on the dynamic of the ship that will serve as my justification until I am able to verbalize my own thoughts on it. It involves less on past/present/canon behavior, and more on the characters’ “humanity” and story. As an example, many have attempted to rewrite the redemption arc that was so poorly handled in TROS.
Clearly, there are two different approaches to this ship, both coming from very well-meaning people (unless you ship them primarily for the smut, then that’s a whole different can of worms, on the same level as my post regarding Frodo and Sam’s platonic relationship 😂) The question is, which one is right? Who is telling the truth of the matter?
The answer is: Yes.
On the surface, it’s very easy to say the first viewpoint on a ship like Reylo is the moral one, because the viewpoint involves calling out arguably evil behavior and does not excuse them for any reason. It’s the viewpoint that attempts to protect the vulnerable, to exercise a sense of justice, by condemning the actions of one or both characters because they inherently hurts others. And I can very well see why this would be such a valid point of view. We are moral creatures. We try to maintain moral order by condemning actions that are considered immoral or “harmful” to many or all. Good vs. evil is much more emphasized from this point of view. Whose perspective on good vs evil? That is another can of worms.
The alternative puts less emphasis on morality; and more emphasis on the complexities of life, on humanity. It takes on what isn’t seen in, say the canon, goes in-depth to the psyches of these characters (may also involve taking into account the characters’ canon thoughts and ideas), often making the characters far more complex than what we see in TV or films, and depending on the person who ships it, who analyzes, makes stories for these characters, whether existing or original, you may come up with varied results and outlooks, ranging from realistic to unlikely to impossible to achieve in our lives. Sometimes, you might even end up with a result akin to the first mindset I explained earlier.
And that’s the main point about why I am writing this essay. In the end, generalizations on the fate, morals of fictional characters cannot be achieved. Because in the end, we are dealing with fictional characters. Fictional characters do not influence the physical world on their own accord.
And that’s because fictional characters are like blank slates. Not entirely blank, but blank enough that canon or the original creator gives only so much information until it’s time for other folks, fans, to have a go at the character if they choose to. And that’s why you can never fully predict how one character or ship influences real people. Because real people are living, complex creatures. When it comes to fiction, influence is a result of how an individual interprets what they see, not the other way around. For example, out of Harry Potter came several results: Witchcraft is embraced by the person, witchcraft is demonized by the person, or witchcraft remains nothing but fantasy for the person. The books themselves do not do anything, it is the person who decides whether the content is immoral or not. Hence why you had the Christian Harry Potter scare in the midst of many embracing the books as they came out.
From that approach, the idea of generalizing a piece of fiction, its characters, becomes the burden of the beholder, of the viewer, of the owner of the character, of the fan. As part, attempting to claim absolutes on characters’ or stories’ morality, to assume the impossibility of change, and imposing said moral absolute about the character/story on other people is a noble but ultimately pointless endeavor (again. “it’s abusive” vs. “there is room for growth and redemption”).
This is the reason why I was silent about the Gabrienette ship during my days in the ML fandom (if you don’t know, it’s essentially between the canonically 14-year old girl, and the 40+ year old villain). I could see how, inherently, there were so many problems with this dynamic but at the same time, I recognized the freedom that people had when it came to this ship. I didn’t have to agree with its morality or dynamic. I simply needed to respect that their approaches were not up to me. I would’ve been more concerned about the shippers’ spiritual fates than the ship itself because that involved the real person’s life.
Fictional characters are essentially reflections of humanity and its relationship with God. Just like God has omniscience over our lives (we do not know our individual futures, we will never be able to truly predict them with absolute certainty, but He does), we attempt to exercise a sense of pseudo-omniscience over people that do not actually exist. So each person has the choice on how to approach this fictional character, whether they want them redeemed, put to justice, to end up in some relationship, etc. We also impose our own morals and wills onto fictional characters.
The same way each person has the ability to do all of that on fiction, God decides to whom He has mercy on and whom He doesn’t in real life. We are the creations; we are, in a sense, His “characters”, because He is the Author of our lives. So while we are able to impose our will on fictional characters, we have no right to do so with real human beings, because the Creator has already appointed universal rules on how to deal with other human beings. The Created cannot influence the Creator. Neither can the Created impose its will on another Created.
So in conclusion, there is little value in pushing for any direct moral absolute on fictional things, and one can like a ship without excusing the bad behavior involved 😁
In the end, better to focus on real people.
Addendum: Of course, it’s always important to ask yourself why you ship a ship.

SORRY i just find it really really rich how you can be a braime shipper and can clearly see the unhealthy and toxic relationship jaime has with cersei (also brienne was literally bullied by men) and ship be able to ship reylo, ignoring the clear abuse and toxicity in that relationship. its not enemies to lovers if they keep killing/hurting each other every time they interact. do better. im not saying you cant be a braime shipper but please... cognitive dissonance...
….
now, never mind that I could ship whatever the hell I want and I could be as incoherent as I want, but.
anon, have you watched these movies? reylo is basically the lovechild of jb and jeyneptheon in space. no, really. also:
to be an abusive relationship two people need to have… a… previous relationship. fyi rey and kylo in tfa met, he tried to read her mind, she read his and she kicked his ass, then they fought, she kicked his ass again, that was it. that’s not an abusive relationship. they fought and she kicked his ass, that was it;
in tlj……. they didn’t even fight because they found they had the force bond, they talked, she realized he was more than she thought, he realized she actually would listen to him if he talked, they basically comforted each other up to the point where they touched hands, then she bodily sent herself to his ship to get him back to the good side, they fought together and he killed his abuser for her like………. and then he was like HEY WANNA RULE THE GALAXY TOGETHER and she said no and that was it, like…. again, I’d like to know where the abuse and toxicity is because in tlj they made each other better and comforted each other like…….. jc is actual abuse because it’s been going on since they had a conscience, reylo is straightup enemies to lovers and it’s actually tame for that trope, come on;
they tried to hurt each other literally twice in tfa, never in tlj and in tros….. pal, they fought and when she accidentally stabbed him without meaning to she LITERALLY HEALED HIS WOUND in the best healer king trope in existence and… he… literally brought her back to life sacrificing his own like………. nvm that the last bit of it was shit but do y’all realize that it’s character development? abusive? toxic? where?
like. it’s straight up tame enemies to lovers. idg where you get it’s toxic, idg where you get it’s abusive but in order to be abusive and toxic they have to have had a previous relationship before they met and to make each other worse, which they don’t (but jc do since you’re bringing it up). it’s literally jb (enemies to lovers + swordfights + making each other better) meets theonjeynep (he overcomes the fear of his abuser for her, he’s an abuse victim and she’s the only one who treats him like a human being) in space. like. obviously it has the problematic elements an enemies to lovers ship has, but anon, honestly, my younger cousin grasped that kylo was in love with rey at nine after watching tfa, I think it’s high time this fandom at large admits that of all things this ship actually had sense of existing and was telegraphed from the beginning.
also, it’s high time this fandom realizes that kylo ren isn’t at all the monster people decided he is but honestly………… this movie for all its faults has a scene where han solo straight up tells him that kylo is dead and ben solo is alive and that he loves him, what more do people the narrative to do to say that kylo ren isn’t anyone’s abuser least of all rey’s?
like, sorry but there’s zero cognitive dissonance in shipping both reylo and jb…… since they have half of the same tropes going on. and fyi I didn’t gaf about reylo until tlj when it hit me smack in the face that they were gonna go the redemption route and it was going to go there regardless, and my investment in reylo isn’t anything like what I have with jb or theon/jeynep or any asoiaf ship, but I’d be more worried about my cognitive dissonance if while shipping jb I said reylo is the worst ship that ever happened. *shrug* sorry but nah. I think I’m not changing my stance. ;)

I saw TROS earlier today and, well, it was definitely a Star Wars sequel movie, for better and for worse. I can see why some people on my dash hated this movie and why some of them loved it. I can also see why some of them threw their hands into the air over it and shrugged. (FYI, I’m in the third category.) More scattered and spoiler-laden thoughts below the cut:
--“Never underestimate a droid.” This line would have been so much more meaningful if the spy had turned out to be a First Order droid rather than Hux. A droid that had broken free of its programming, just like Finn (and later Jannah and the other unnamed former stormtroopers). But as always, the Droid Revolution that we deserve is probably never going to be a thing, at least not onscreen where it counts.
--Just like TFA, the copy-and-pasting from the Original Trilogy was painfully obvious, but what was forgivable in the first film of a new trilogy is less so in said trilogy’s concluding film.
--Trần Loan/Rose deserved more screentime and prominence. And did we really have to turn Poe into a former spice runner? Really? *sighs heavily*
--Zorii Bliss felt sort of shoehorned in? I didn’t hate her, but it felt like TPTB only introduced her to give Poe another person to flirt with. And I say this as someone who was not expecting PoeFinn or any other LGBTQIAP+ relationship between named characters to be made canon in this movie at all. Hopefully fans will give her more depth in fic!
--Jannah was really interesting and I would have loved to see more of her. Once again, hopefully fans will take her character and deepen/explore it in fic.
--LANDO!
--Finn was all but explicitly confirmed as Force sensitive, and it’s What He Deserves.
--I mean, Finn also deserved his own storyline and a stronger conclusion to his character arc in this film, especially considering he was promoted as one of the leads of the sequel trilogy. But while I’m irked that he was relegated to a side character, I can’t say I didn’t see this coming, especially after TLJ.
--Likewise, I knew Reyl0 was going to be a thing after TLJ. I found their relationship less grating than Anida1a in the prequels, but it still didn’t do much of anything for me in this film. Do I understand from an objective POV why some people enjoy it so much? Yep. It’s the grand, tortured, Byronic Romance™, where it isn’t really about whether the characters have anything in common or even like each other, it’s about their near-mystical connection and their inability (and lack of true desire) to be rid of it; it’s about the lengths to which they will go for each other/themselves; it’s about the powerful man who is emotionally vulnerable and eager to serve his True Love at the expense of all else. It’s also the whole enemies-to-lovers trope, and so on. I understand the appeal of this mashup intellectually, it’s just not my cup of tea here. YMMV and all that, and that’s as it should be.
--Palpatine back from death is as ridiculous here as it was in the old EU, but I can roll with it. I think the movie made the right decision not to explain all the nitty-gritty details of how he cheated death or manipulated the whole Snoke deal... ultimately, it doesn’t really matter, y’know? Ditto to Rey Palpatine lol.
--Leia’s death felt pretty narratively cheap to me, but I understand that there was only so much TPTB could do with the footage they already had of Carrie Fisher in costume. Still, poor Leia. She drew a deeply shitty hand in life, didn’t she?
--That said, it was nice to see Leia training as a Jedi in flashbacks, however briefly. (Is it just me, or did her saber hilt vaguely resemble Obi-Wan’s?) Does it make a lot less sense that she would then send Ben away to Luke if she’s had Jedi training? Yes. Can I created headcanons to explain this? Also yes. And do I really care about this particular inconsistency when there are far worse ones out there and this one makes dudebro sections of the fandom spitting mad? NOPE.
--I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’m not inherently against the redemption of Kylo/Ben. But, as I had suspected/feared, they “redeemed” him at the narrative expense of other characters I personally find more interesting... and they still didn’t manage to make said redemption feel narratively earned to me. Is there undoubtedly ancillary material in SW books and comics that give more background behind Kylo/Ben’s turn to the Dark Side and eventual turn back to the Light? Yes. Do I want to read it? Not really, no. Also, unless something happens onscreen in the SW universe, it doesn’t really count as true canon. So it’s disappointing that the movie shoved other characters and plots to the side to make room for Kylo/Ben’s redemption arc and then didn’t even do a good job with it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
--Also, of course TPTB had Kylo/Ben die saving someone rather than narratively deal with what it means to work towards redemption after having done lots of terrible things, and having to recover from having been manipulated/groomed by Sidious. Not surprised in the slightest.
--I would have preferred a Stormtrooper Rebellion storyline, but I’m not going to blast TROS or the sequel trilogy for being what it is rather than what I wanted it to be. I will, however, blast it for its sloppy execution of its existing storylines. Which leads to my next point...
--Even though TROS was long, it still felt rushed and, like the first two movies in this trilogy, it felt largely disconnected from the other sequel trilogy films. The Star Wars Story Group really should have planned this trilogy out better. If TPTB were going to go with two different directors/writers, they should have made sure said directors/writers were on the same page rather than seemingly fighting each other’s visions of what the overarching story should be at every step.
--I’m willing to handwave a lot of stuff that happens in TROS, mainly because I’m long past expecting coherence from this franchise... or pretty much any major franchise, tbh. (For instance: Thousands of people show up to aid the Resistance when Lando calls them but not when Leia did in TLJ? OK. Force Ghost Luke shows up to catch Rey’s lightsaber but not to help her against Palpatine? Sure.) These issues don’t really make or break the series for me, so I can work with them with a minimum of grumbling. Which isn’t quite the same thing as letting TPTB off the hook for their laziness and inconsistencies.
--Honestly, I hate to say it, but it would have made for a stronger story if Chewie had died aboard the ship when Rey and Kylo/Ben were fighting over it; that would have driven home the consequences of Rey’s lack of control and lessened the artificiality of the stakes in this movie. But I get that this is ultimately a family film, so it’s more of a minor quibble than anything else.
--It’s kind of weird that Rey’s hair is back in the three buns again for the entirety of TROS after she wore her hair differently for almost all of TLJ. But that’s a fairly minor quibble too, and one of the sort I can easily create a headcanon to explain. Actually, come to think of it, I wonder if they didn’t do this at least partially to be able to recycle some of the unused TFA clips with Leia and Rey?
--Frankly, I’m not sure why Rey suddenly cared so much about what Luke thought, considering A. he was a huge jerk to her for most of TLJ, and B. she seemed to have broken with following his advice towards the end of TLJ. And since she didn’t have a great relationship with Luke, it seems weird that she’d take his last name. Shouldn’t she have gone with Organa or even Solo, if she’s naming herself after a mentor? But whatever, I get that it’s about the symbolism more than the character or logic. And I can create headcanons to explain all of this.
--It’s a little weird that there wasn’t any more resolution to Kylo/Ben’s storyline and Rey’s feelings about it after his death. But with Leia dead, I guess there isn’t anyone left who’d especially care if Kylo/Ben turned back to the Light aside from Rey herself. Still, there should have been something more. Especially since Ben didn’t show up as a Force Ghost alongside Luke and Leia on Tatooine.
--While I’m at it, I wish we could have had a minute’s conversation with Rey telling Finn about her heritage, if only because I think he would have understood. But I wish we could have learned more about Finn’s heritage (which didn’t need to be a known SW lineage, btw) too, so...
--For that matter, I wish we could have had Finn get a chance to tell Rey about his being Force Sensitive, which might have made her feel slightly less alone. I wish we could have seen Finn figure out what being Force Sensitive meant to him. And so on.
--Not sure where people are getting the idea that Lando & Jannah were flirting, because I didn’t read their interaction that way at all.
--General Poe and General Finn were great, but also sort of felt unearned after the events of TLJ.
--The abilities that come from being part of a Dyad are overpowered and a little silly, but hey, they’re also following a long-established SW tradition of overpowered silliness, so... *shrugs*
--Confused as to why Rey suddenly killed Kylo/Ben when she did?? I mean, if it was because she was angry Leia had just died, wouldn’t that be acting from the Dark Side and shouldn’t that have, idk, narrative consequences for her?
--I don’t see why some people loved or hated Rey’s ending so much. It’s pretty open, IMO, just like the endings for all of the surviving characters. Who says Rey is going to stay on Tatooine or be alone there, after all? For all we know, she just stopped there for a few days to bury the lightsabers, grieve for Kylo/Ben, and meditate. For all we know, Finn or one of her other friends from the Resistance is going to drop in any moment now. Heck, for all we know, one of her friends is hanging out inside the Falcon where we can’t see them, giving her a little space. (Was her friendship with Finn and Poe depicted pretty shallowly in this movie? Yeah. But so was her relationship with Kylo/Ben tbh, even with the Dyad Force bond thingamajig.) Rey has a whole world of choices available to her. Does it suck that we didn’t get to see that onscreen? Yeah. Does it mean she’s doomed to be eternally lonely as a hermit on a desert planet? Not in the slightest.
--Someone really needs to tell the writers of these big franchises that using ring structure is pointless if there isn’t meaning behind it. There’s nothing inherently significant about repeating events or revisiting locations.
--Overall, I felt pretty meh about TROS. I didn’t love it or hate it. As with any movie in a series, there’s good stuff to be mined from it, and bad stuff to be handwaved away or given headcanon explanations. But mostly, I just can’t dredge up the energy to care very much. And I’m not in the mood for TROS fix-it fanfiction so much as I am TROS crack fics.
--I haven’t talked about everything that worked or didn’t work for me in TROS here, but if you have any questions, I’m always happy to answer them to the best of my abilities!

The Rise of Skywalker Fixes
Major Spoilers Ahead
Here is my take on how to fix TROS plot.
1. They could have milked the reveal of Palpatine alot more. Instead of an "FYI Guys he is still alive", the reveal should have been the first plot arc of the movie, not hide and seek with a knife. They could have gone into Sith lore and better set up the "Rey is my Granddaughter" surprise.
2. Chewbacca's death scene should have been a true death. It was honestly the most gasp worthy moment of the entire movie. When they backed tracked on it, all the risk and emotional stakes disappeared from the narrative. Also it would have added more depth to Rey's fear of herself and emotional deterioration.
3. A fleet of Star Destroyers that size would have taken years to build, pre-dating episode seven and removing the need to create Star Killer base in the first place. Much more believable would have been a biological warfare weapon. A plague capable of decimating galaxies. They established Palpatine was into Mad Science with his jar of malformed Snoke clones. It could have played in nicely to the healing power of the Rey/Ben dyad.
4. I don't even ship Stormpilot, but they really should have made Finn and Poe a canon couple. They wasted so much time establishing/forcing Poe's hetero-sexual love interest. Finn/Poe physical contact is pushed heavily in first half of film. Poe proceeds to chug vinegar when Finn tries to tell Rey "something important". They bicker and fight like a couple for the rest of the movie. Poe goes back for Finn to save his life in the final arc. A kiss during the victory scene is a pretty logical progression and would have been a refreshing surprise.
5. A noteworthy fight scene with Palpatine that lasted more then 5 minutes. He was just rejuvenated and canonically is a badass saber duelist (see Clone Wars when he faced off again Darth Maul). A cooler death scene then just deflecting his force lightening back to him. This should have been "The Fight". It was probably as important as Kenobi vs. Skywalker at the end of the first trilogy.

this is some heavy stuff, but I just wanted to tell that story? (is it even a “story” and not just actually a mere “concept” of a story?)  (warning for (murder-)suicide, mentions of rape (even if it’s not a real person)) (this story (concept) is entirely fictional fyi)
so, considering what Kylo did to Hux in TLJ and also before and during TROS, and people trying to still make it romantic or “~but it’s queer rep~” (by having Hux be essentially the forever raped woman* with no way to get out ever because apparently force-users are now omnipotent, despite even Jedi MASTERS being shot to death by “mere” clone foot soldiers in ROTS mind you! (there were exactly four people getting away from that on 50% being mere coincidence))
(and since I like Hit4ka, this will of course include Mitaka, but I’m not going to tag this with any relationship)
*) I KNOW this is a gross over generalization of the Ky1ux fandom and 99% of its current (especially popular) content, but I DO need to say this, not all “Hux embracing his vulnerability and “feminine**” side” head canons are created equally
**) considering the GFFA doesn’t actually have the same sexuality labels we have, I honestly doubt it would have the same gender binary bullshit we have here, it’s just the limitations in our own imaginations if we apply our (western) gender essentialism and toxic masculinity to them
Anyway, here goes:
Hux uses the odd time Kylo is actually distracted with something else (or Kylo simply goes to sleep, not caring, because Hux won’t do anything anyway) to invite Mitaka to his quarters, they drink, Hux knows that Mitaka likes him, Hux confesses his love to Mitaka too. Kylo is in Hux’s head, listening in, commenting (Hux can hear him, and Hux knows Kylo can hear him too, he says “it’s just a lie”, while Hux thinks “you say that” to Kylo. Kylo tells Hux to kill Mitaka, and Hux says yes, he will kill “with a kiss, this time” (just not who lol). Hux kisses Mitaka, while simultaneously sharing some fast-working poison between them, that Hux had put in his mouth (something like that cyanide pill from that TF2 comic, but its more fast-working, painless, and Mitaka doesn’t actually know what awaits him). Hux’s last thoughts to Kylo are “Goodbye Ren, it was really shitty being forced to know you”. Kylo panics because this was NOT “going according to keikaku”.
Hux and Mitaka just die like this, sitting next to each other, kissing. (also with a smile on their (especially Hux’s) lips) Hux had raised one of his hands to do a middle finger to the person coming in (I think it’s Pryde? I haven’t decided if I have Kylo storming in in a frenzy or not)
As it turns out, Hux had planned this for some time, always in a way Kylo would pay no attention to or think nothing of it.
A ship, no galaxy-wide message goes out automatically after Hux’s death. In this message Hux tells about the repeated abuse and rape he faced at Kylo’s hands, stating how Mitaka was his true love, but he was bound to his circumstances. He also uses some sort of coded message that breaks the stormtroopers’ and officer’s conditioning, setting the “Final Order” into chaos and its people into an uproar.
Everyone is horrified about what they learn about Ben Solo AKA Kylo Ren, even Leia denounces him as her son, saying Finn is the only son she has.

WARNING RANT INCOMING
It’s about TROS, disliking TROS and disliking how the movie ended... if you don’t like it, don’t keep reading.
I saw a beautiful gifset of Ben’s death... again.
I just... I know that it’s a relief for him, via the books and that makes the whole scene worse. Like... I get that he needs peace, but... at the cost of ripping the soulmate Dyad in half? How is that... peaceful? How does that not make the balance even MORE off-kilter?
Also, because I play Rey... WHAT THE FUCK? Like sure, Ben gets to be one with the force and shit... but she doesn’t. Yet another person in her life who has left her. This one the other half of her soul. If you think she’s remotely mentally and emotionally ok after that... you have another thing coming. She’s been abandoned by everyone in her life, and there BEN goes doing the same.
And we are sapposed to view it as a good thing. Like this is how the hero’s story ends. No. No this reads as a villain’s origin story. Rey’s entirely alone. Even if Finn and Poe (and bb8... because... reasons... Artoo makes more sense fyi) are able to reach out and remind her that she’s not alone... they literally can not understand her pain, even if she tries to explain or pretends they do, they can’t, they don’t know what it is to be half a broken force bond.
And there is no one else alive who is. Leia could have helped her but they killed her. Leia had a force bond with Luke, she could have at least soothed SOME of Rey’s lonliness. But no, we gotta leave Rey all alone to be ‘happy’ on a dead planet.
I know it’s been fucking months but I’m still upset. I refuse to RP in that verse (except for FIXITs and those are... very rare now) because it’s... broken and leads to bad things. It’s tragic that Ben felt relief at leaving Rey all alone when all she ever fucking wanted was to be with him. Like, from Rey’s point of view... how dare he? There had to be a less drastic way to bring her back that didn’t kill him too! But no, he gets to die and not deal with any of the bullshit anymore, and she had to carry on, be strong and pretend that she isn’t torn in half because no one else will ever understand.
It makes me immensely sad. The way the book and movie frame it... this is the best possible ending... for them both, but it is so hollow that it’s just... not.

#OC-Sunday up in here…and here’s a VERY quick sketch I did of Belter fire marshal/dad of three/husband of two/son-of-a-hooker Timon Chapelle down to his skivvies for you, you thirsty little things.
Also, as is typical of many Belters who grew up in lower gravity, Timon is TALL (6'11) and wiry as all get out.
Like most Belters from The Expanse, Timon is covered in tattoos. They represent the following:
-The Belter neck 'scar' that many Belters have in honor of their people.
-An OPA symbol over his heart, as he served with them.
-An Irish trinity on the other side of his chest, for the mother he never knew.
-The Metis nation symbol on his upper right arm, for his father.
-Four bands for each of his children (he has three, and considers his niece, Meg, his fourth).
-Two bands on the other arm for his two wives.
-Stars on his ribs to symbolize his two homes on the Belt, Ceres and Eros.
-Different road 'maps' on his left arm and leg for the journeys that both he and his ancestors from Earth have been on.
-A 'bubble' ring on his right leg, designed by his daughter, aspiring artist Tro.
-Saddest of all is the smattering of small dots and circles above his left eye. They symbolize nothing but were created to cover scars left behind from a beating he endured while serving on the Free Navy ship, Zhong Kui. He attempted to stop a horrible event from happening, and instead, was brutally assaulted by another crew member. His future wives, Tanke Drummer and Miriam Martin, both saved him.
As I promised, I'm tagging some of my friends who have OCs in here! Happy OC Sunday! @eyecandyeoz @amalthiaph @merkitty49 @skellymom @sued134 @sunkissedclones @wrenkenstein @ilikemymendarkandfictional @moosethren @techs-stitches and I'll tag @supremechancellorrex too because he loves The Expanse too, lol.
FYI if you're not tagged, please join in any way!

Reylo fic recs- Alternate Canonverse
So ‘alternate canonverse’ is what I call fics that take place within the canon universe, but in the case of these fics, none of the sequels have taken place. They still have all the same sequel characters and sometimes similar dynamics, but events that took place before TFA have gone drastically different.
Includes title(with link), rating, chapter and word count, and an intro. My favorites have a 🦋!
Binary Star Systems (series) Rated T&M/ 3 parts/ 56 chapters total, 408k words total/ What would happen if Ben Solo hadn’t turned that night a Luke’s Jedi temple? What if someone else did? (The first 2 are retellings of TFA and TLJ respectively, the last one is NOT a retelling of TROS but there are a few characters and locations used)🦋
Alliance Rated T/ 28 chapters, 88k words/ The First Order and the Galactic Republic are in conflict. In a power move by both sides, they agree to form a new order- by an arranged marriage between the two sides. Guess who the participating parties are... (We’ve got arranged marriage AND enemies to lovers here, people)
Stardust Rated E/ 30 chapters, 247k words/ Rey doesn’t remember anything from before arriving on Jakku. One day in Niima Outpost, she meets a mysterious, masked man who just happens to trigger flashes of her memory, but he’s there to collect her for someone else. (Guys it’s hard to tell you about it without giving much away, by trust me it’s good. It’s one of the first fics I read, it’s stayed on my top 10 for a very long time[it’s like top 15 now, but still😅])🦋
Sword of the Jedi (Series) Rated T&M/ 2 parts/ 52 total chapters, 230k total words/ Rey grows up at the Jedi Temple after being discovered by Ben and Luke not long after she is left on Jakku (This was one of the first fics/series I’ve ever read! It’s also my favorite story by Diasterisms. Part 1 gave me Camp Half-Blood vibes lol)
Across the stars Rated T*/ 13 chapters, 28k words/ After an assassination attempt, Jedi Rey is asked to protect her old friend and now senator Ben Solo (*I personally would have given this an M rating, just an FYI. MAJOR Attack of the Clones vibes if you haven’t guessed already)
Standing right in front of you Rated T/ 8 chapters, 29k words/ Senator Ben Solo’s arranged engagement to a Nabooian Senator is moving forward, so he and Rey, his Jedi bodyguard, travel to Naboo to attend the celebratory ball.
If you’re looking for a specific fic genre or trope, check out my masterlist and if you don’t see what you’re looking for, check out this post for more info on the types of fics I read and making a request!
