Danny doesn't know he won the crown of fire and the ring of rage when he battled pariah dark and held the sarcophagus of forever sleep closed long enough for pariah dark to be sealed away again. He would later blame Vlad when he learned of this.

Vlad,for the role he held in the events leading him to opening pariah dark's sarcophagus and awakening the ghost king and after being the one to lock the sarcophagus of forever sleep once more, he himself was bound to the skeleton key and would find himself beginning to transform into a keeper(ancient ) of dangerous artifacts similar to the key.

He , prior to the transformation he found himself going through , had already amassed many powerful artifacts he just hoarded away in his castle.

Before Vlad realized he was changing,he gleefully collected the crown of fire and the ring of rage, happily adding them to his collection.

Years later(a little after a glitch in time) Vlad noticed that he was beginning to turn human less and less after Dan pointed it out.

Dan had observed Vlad in the few months they had spent together, learning to trust each other. They weren't what you could call family,but Vlad was caring for Dan and Dan was letting Vlad do so.

Both had scared hearts and both had a rough time getting used to the new reality they lived in now, one where Dan was once more half alive and half dead. Vlad himself found himself as a former mayor,in this new reality he had his second chance too.

When Vlad has realized he wasn't wanted for threatening to try and rule the world ,that he could go back to living on earth,it had been a unexpected relief, he quietly swore that he owed clockwork a massive favor. He had no plans on seeking the time ghost out though, he wasn't risking what he had now

Dan and he had quietly did paperwork to show that he had adopted Dan. He let Dan pick his new room and they had both tentatively tried out shopping for new clothing together, to try out ' family ' bonding. Dan ,who was still getting used to having a living body again , had confessed to Vlad he was at a loss at what teenagers even did now a days, from his point of view he hasn't been been a child in 20 or more years,to find himself a teenager again was disorienting and he found he had trouble identifying himself in the mirror most days
