let’s say you just moved out of your house, from your parents’ home to a place you’re renting on your own, and out of all the apartments that you checked out in the apartment hunting, one resonated with you slightly more than the others, the vibes were cozy, the location was pretty nice and the neighbours didn’t seem like a bother. so you decide on it, signing the lease and everything.

but as you stand there and smile at finally having a nice place all to yourself, a soft apparition appears in the corner, scared at the aspect of a new owner, but he can’t really do anything right now, maybe he’ll just drive them away like he did with the others. now, he’s not a hostile ghost at all but he still likes this place, this home still belongs to him and he doesn’t want people he doesn’t like to sit around and claim it as theirs. there were many instances when he does like the people who live here but so far, unfortunately it has happened only once or twice.

when the moving day comes, he stands shadowed, watching as you load the boxes in the living room, he doesn't dislike you at first glance so that's a win, really. and when you finally start placing the boxes relevant to each room there, he starts following you around, he doesn't wanna snoop in your belongings yet because a) he doesn't wanna scare you off (yet..) and b) he'll get to do plenty of that later when you've actually settled in. so he spends the next few days roaming around, sitting face to face with you but you can never see him, he starts recognising people around you.

there's your parents who are anxious about you moving out, there are friends who are happy for you, and they want to come over for drinks once you're done but that's about it.

the days he spent wallowing around almost feeling like he didn't even exist are now replaced with the genuine awe he feels for you and your surroundings.

he stands next to you when you're hungry at 3 am, as you try to make some instant noodles, and wonders whether you feel as lonely as him. he can’t remember actually feeling nice on his own when he was alive, right now it was just because he didn't have any other option.

and then he learns to like the music you play, it occupies the entire apartment, like a ghostly figure way, way, larger than him. he enjoys it, and he knows you do too, the way you hum it as you work.

but his memory is warped completely, in some instances he can remember who he was, what happened to him, why he's here. but sometimes, it's just a blank, as if he's some non-living object with no thoughts or feelings of his own.

and he can't put a finger on it but you remind him of someone, he hopes that he'll remember that he deduced this today when his memory comes back again.

and luckily enough, he does remember. his partner, his real life partner, who was so real. he's reminded of them in you. the way you smile and he feels compelled to do the same even when you can't see him, the way you have the habit to say "sorry," to inanimate objects (sometimes even him) when you bump into them, and the way you take care of the house. he's not sure about how far you actually resemble his darling from when he was alive, but he can tell that he was growing fond for you.

and he sits besides you, when your friends have come over, his knees hugged to his chest as he looks at you. if anybody could see him they could see it in his eyes, completely lovesick. when you laugh, he could feel his heart beating again almost, it was just magical.

he never knew he could really smile or feel even a little happy inside, but here he is now, even when he doesn't remember sometimes, your presence without any history related brings him so much joy, that there's someone beside him and he isn't lonely anymore.

the worst time of the day though, is when you have to leave, for “work,” or for “uni,” but that's the time he takes to go through your belongings, he can't do much but he can immerse himself in your clothing and feel you around him, it keeps him occupied when you aren’t around. and his latest hobby is to pluck the flowers from the tree outside your window, and keep it on the window sill, and you always have such a smile thinking about how the wind blew them in.

and he loves staring at your photographs, the ones you have in frames or small prints, it gives him an insight in a version of you that he never knew. that wasn't connected to him. was that picture taken when he was alive?

but the ghost is in for a bad set of days, when you start bringing another man home. at first, it's just the living room, he sits there and you laugh at jokes he makes (which were quite lame, let’s face it) and he stands in the doorway, his arms crossed. He didn't like the man.

and the way you looked at him, it made him so, so upset that you could never really look at him that way, or any way for that matter.

he found himself, sitting there in the corner of the room, again with his knees hugging his chest as he overheard the conversation.

and slowly the visits became frequent, and then he came from the living room to the kitchen and then he used the toilet!

he felt oddly intruded, but the only reason he wasn't doing anything was the fact that it made you so happy whenever he was around. you were happy alone but this glow.. the man who came around made it happen. he wondered lowly, about how things would be if he could do the same.

but the final straw for the ghost is when you bring him into the bedroom! the sacred bedroom! why would you do that?

and you both are so close to each other, almost kissing, and skin on skin. the ghost sees red at the moment, no longer does he think about the aspect of keeping you happy, all he can think of is the unfairness of it all, it would probably be him! it would have been him! why is it not him? it's sad.

it makes the lights go out, all the fairy lights, the speaker, it's all disconnected.

when the man leaves after that, claiming that he has “work,” tomorrow and can't afford to be late (and the fact that he can’t sleep with the air off would disturb his sleep. excuses, really), is only when the ghost calms down.

he's back to normal and the lights slightly fluctuate and come back on.

now, it's just how he wants it to be, he stands close to you as you look out the window to the man that left, he can feel that you're upset that he left but he’s glad that you do, because he sees you pick up the phone and block him. and you're so right for that, he exclaims! he never wanted to be with you, he only wanted your body, and when he couldn't get it…

he wishes he could reach out and stroke your face and tell you he’d never leave and it wasn’t even for your body, he tries, really, but it doesn't happen. the most you can feel is the wind brushing against you.

and even if he can't do anything about it or communicate, he still enjoys this, having you all to himself, just looking at you as you do your own thing. but it's okay, even if you can't see him, he'll always be here to protect you.

Jabami Yumeko

♠️We all know that Yumeko is a compulsive gambler so a darling who isn't using every little chance to gamble is always a tricky situation because this girl just can't understand why you'd skip on the pleasure and thrill of an excited gamble. Especially since you're so smart and perceptive. So whilst you two are often acting like two cuddly cats in public due to your sweetness and her clinginess, this aspect of your personality is something Yumeko thinks she has to change a bit, of course with the intention to help you to realize just what you're missing out on. So when she notices that you seem to take it upon yourself to gamble against bad people, mostly bullies who disrespect housepets, she's instantly eploring that part of you. Your weakness is your sense of justice and just like that Yumeko starts sniffing out every bad person in school and luckily there are plenty. She reports them to you, even encourages housepets to seek your help just so that she can watch you destroying and humiliating every single person you gamble against with a visible blush on her face. Oh~she's so proud of you. Luckily you belong to her and to no one else.

Saotome Mary

♦️Mary doesn't mind it as much that you're not as addicted to gambling as others, especially since she's friends with Yumeko. It lowers the risk of you being a housepet and since she's made her own experiences with being one, she's very keen on keeping you away from such a cruel and dehumanizing life. She wouldn't be too happy though if you'd just skip all offers to gamble since it can influence your reputation and she wouldn't want you to be seen as a coward or loser which would make you an easy target for arrogant students looking for easy prey. So your solution of only gambling with people who deserve a taste of hell is admirable and the best answer you could have come up with in her mind. Honestly, she can't spare too much sympathy for those you gamble against for the reason that she agrees with your policy here, such students do deserve a taste of hell. Mary doesn't see any need to be overly worried for you either because she knows that you're very good in what you're doing, the perfect mix of logical and composed yet also willing to take a little risk. Overall she's very proud of her s/o, although you won't hear her admitting that out loud all too often, she's a bit of a Tsundere.

Ryota Suzui

🎴Suzui is just happy that he's somehow managed to become your boyfriend in the first place considering his low self-esteem, even Mary sometimes wonders how he did it. He's probably the sanest among his circle of friends and stupidly he thinks that you're also someone who isn't into gambling due to the risks being involved. You're kind and smart with perfect grades and also unbelievably sweet around him. You adore Suzui's shyness a lot, enjoy teasing him to see him blushing. He isn't necessarily surprised to see that you're very talented during an actual gamble and he isn't even surprised to hear your reasoning for doing it but he's nevertheless anxious for you. Does he love you any less when finding out that you indulge in gambles to bring justice to the students treated wrong? Absolutely not, he only adores you more. He knows that the antics and methods of Hyakkaou Private Academy are more than questionable and that a lot of students suffer under the school's system so in his eyes you're by all means some sort of savior, a hero. It does nag at his self-esteem though, standing next to you because by comparison he isn't even half as heroic as you are.

Momobami Kirari

♣️Kirari finds her darling rather fascinating when Sayaka starts informing her about a new student who viciously takes down a lot of students through gambles, all of them by all accounts bullies and scumbags. Obviously it could just be a hypocritical sense of justice but meeting you in real life does spark her interest because you're acting like a completely different person. Caring, focused on your studies and rejecting all offers to join clubs or offers to gamble, seemingly no interest. The almost jarring shift in your personality is captivating and Kirari finds herself tempted to push you around a bit to elicit the fierce and cold side out of you again and there is a high risk that she'll throw your friends into the mix when she notices that you're very protective over them. She'd be curious to see if you'd crack if it involves your friends and make stupid mistakes but you don't disappoint, although a part of her would have liked to see how defeat would look on your face. She offers you a place in the council but wouldn't be surprised if you'd reject, considering that she's the one who inveted the housepet system. Who knows, maybe one day you'll even come for her. She'd very much like that.

Momobami Ririka

🎭Ririka by all accounts is the safer option than her twin sister since she isn't as possessive nor curious to watch over you to see if you would ever let yourself be defeated. She actually supports her darling in their decision to not be actively involved in the gambling and uses her position as the vice-president to help you fulfill your goal as good as she can. There is nothing wrong with not participating actively in gambles and instead focus on studies and friends. Ririka is quite bashful and had rarely anyone in her entire life who was as caring and sweet to her as her darling so she's constantly glowing pink when you two spend time together. Similar to her though, you also have a hidden and dangerous side that comes under certain circumstances out and that no one should mess with and Ririka accepts that. You're quite the menace when you encounter jerks and assholes who think they're on top of the world only to push them down from their high throne and shatter their dreams and hopes. She has faith in your abilities, although a small part of her is still skittish when watching you gamble.

Igarashi Sayaka

💐Sayaka finds herself slightly conflicted as she initially believes that you truly have no interest in gambling. She's Kirari's assistant and should know best how this school works and sadly it works via gambling and not your grades, as intelligent as you might be. Reputation depends on gambling and she hates it when she catches people dismissing you as an easy target and a whimp since no one has ever seen you gamble before. How dare they talk about her wonderful lover in such a disrespectful way?! So when she's informed that you're having your first gamble, she initially panics a bit. When she arrives though, the game is already over as you've won by a landslide, leaving your opponent drowned in debt and with no other choice but to become a housepet. She can't help but be disappointed in herself for never having seen that you had such extraordinary talent inside of you, considering how obsessive she is. Nevertheless, this new side which Sayaka now discovers for the first time makes her only fall deeper in love with you. You're strong and righteous, very protective over those you care for, including her which always makes her heart race.

Nishinotouin Yuriko

🌠Yuriko uses her position as a member of the student council to protect her Traditional Culture Club and her darling with the influence and the money that she has. Despite that she wouldn't really try to stop her darling from gambling every once in a while to humiliate someone. Instead she'd be sort of proud that her s/o is as smart and talented as they are, she enjoys it when people tell her how awesome and witty you are. You by yourself might already be a force to be wary off but with Yuriko and her large amount of money having your back, you're only all the more fearful. Now, outside of her own club and her darling it has to be said that Yuriko doesn't necessarily care too much about other people but since it makes you happy and she sees no major harm, she lets you do as you wish. Most of the time you aren't gambling though and she enjoys tha side of you just as much, your caring and sweet persona who is very protective of those you care about. You're very attached to her club and all it's members which makes Yuriko on the other hand very happy, knowing that you cherish her club just as much as she does.

Batsubami Rei

❣️Rei is quite supportive of the way you choose to use your skills since she's also a victim of oppression. She's glad that her darling is someone who uses their gambling skills to teach everyone who thinks they can look down on others an earth-shattering lesson from which they might never recover. Your heart goes out to all the housepets and weak people which you avenge and that only makes her admiration and obsession grow. Rei thinks very similar to you and shows little to no sympathy to everyone you have gambled against and also beaten since she knows clearly which people you target. She wants to show her admiration and support somehow, approaches you eventually and offers to assist you in any way she can. Collecting information about bullies you plan to challenge next, searching for a weak spot to put pressure on them if necessary, although she prides herself on your luck and your skills which are more than often enough to beat someone. Despite your skills though and your fame for taking bad people down, Rei admires how you never change and are so kind and caring around most students and especially your friends.

Wei Wuxian:

Wei Wuxian is easily fascinated by stuff

and a bit too nosy about it as well

so seeing your hair for the first time was certainly enough to peak his curiosity

certain parts of your hair were a pale white, others a normal (h/c)

most people seemed to avoid you, afraid of what they couldn't explain

but not Wuxian

he approached you, introducing himself before asking who you were

your clan wasn't mentioned and you wore no color of any, so it was fair to assume that you were abandoned

next thing you know, you have a new friend that basically adopts you into his own clan

he doesn't ask about your hair until a few weeks into your friendship and he listens carefully as you explain

born with white patches on your skin and in your hair and later it just grew out white

he doesn't say anything to your story, he can see that your bothered throughout the whole conversation

from then on he shows how much he likes your hair

braiding it or just touching your hair in general, gifting you hair accessories that complemented both colors in your hair

if you did start dating, he'd spoil you with even more things

dresses, jewelry, hair pins and so on

he is someone who'd make sure that you felt good with yourself in every aspect

Lan Zhan:

Lan Zhan knew you before everything happened

you were fine then

but now you were clearly not

some curse, Lan Zhan still wanted to find out which one, had hit you on a mission

one that slowly turned your hair whiter and whiter by day

the talismans that hung around your body kept you safe, pausing the curse in a way that stopped your hair from changing

(you almost look like Wen Ning when he's covered in chains)

you don't go out for some time, too ashamed of your appearance

so Lan Zhan comes to you every single day

he doesn't say much

usually he just sat near you, a comfortable silence

but when he does say something, it is usually something along the lines of getting out

sometimes he said that you should go and see the bunnies by the river

or that one of your friends kept annoying him with questions about you

things that sounded ridiculous, but you knew that he meant well

it was his way of supporting you without directly saying so

he slowly tries to build your confidence back up, doesn't care much for how long it takes

Lan Xichen:

When you were born, 12 year-old Lan Xichen was instantly in love with you

he didn't notice the white hairs in between the black strands at first

only when his mother pointed it out later

even then, he didn't care

he never let you think bad about your appearance and he will shut others up

which is scary to everyone, because he's too calm and polite while threatening someone

and anyone who makes any bad comment about you, probably won't talk to you ever again

which continues as you grow older

he doesn't really talk about your hair

to him it isn't anything special that should be talked about, rather it's normal like anyone else's

of course, thanks to him you have full confidence in yourself

you often display your hair in multiple braids and such

which Xichen encouraged fully with a smile that was reserved for you

Jin Guangyao:

White hair started growing thanks to a failed spell that your friends casted

half of your hair had turned white before it stopped, but the outcome was the same

friends and family abandoned you like you weren't their for them in their harder times

of course, Guangyao finds out about this

because he knows almost everything

and sorry to tell you, but he will use it to his advantage

he takes your anger and uses it for himself

manipulating you to do his bidding

when your sad, he gives you hope and comfort

all while trying to not get attached to you in any way

you fall for it, but also get more confident in a way

you don't even hide as you start enjoying your wrongdoings

Jin Guangyao only watches with a proud smile as you gain the confidence you need

to be your true self

Xiao Xingchen:

He knew you for years now and he only ever said one thing about your hair

'It is a gift of god, wear it with pride'

you try to follow his words, but it is a bit difficult

people sneer at you, call you a witch or an abomination

nonetheless, you push those to the back of your mind and focus on what Xingchen said

he believes it whole heartedly as well

hence why he doesn't really talk about it

until he lost his sight

then he'd mention it more often

saying how he missed seeing your hair and how the color reflected in the lights

he loved hearing your giggles as he complimented your hair

he could only wish to hear them forever

but that was just a dream

König Headcannons SFW

Has constant back pain due to his height and trying to make himself as invisible as possible, which for a man his height isn't easy. He sometimes catches himself slouching due to years of doing so in his childhood due to him being bullied.

Will completely and unashamedly stare at people. He's not sure how to start conversations and honestly just doesn't care much about them. So he just stares. He learns a lot about people because of this.

Just because he has social anxiety doesn't mean he stutters or he's some child. He just rather not interact with people. However, he's a Colonel for a reason. He's never afraid to give orders, and when he has something to say, he will say it. But small talk? Forget about it. He'd rather shoot himself in the head

Hates when people undermine him due to his anxiety. He's a human battering ram and a Colonel and rightfully so demands respect.

Want him to notice you? You gotta make the first move. He'll never make it. He'll just end up staring at you like a stalker. Talk to him. It'll be awkward at first, but once you get him to open up? He'll never shut the hell up.

Loud talker. Like really loud. He doesn't notice, though. If someone points it out, he'll get embarrassed and revert back to his shell you worked so hard to get him out of.

Loves to talk about anything snipers. Need advice which sniper is best for the mission? He'll gladly give you an hour-long lecture that you'll be forced to listen to. Need gear? He'll teach you how to make some for the meanwhile. Help in hand to hand combat? Say no more. Next thing you know, you'll be pinned under him as he tries to teach you, not realizing how he's basically taking your breath.

He loves the adrenaline he gets from exerting fear into the enemy. It's like a drug for him that he loves to chase. Seeing their small bodies, compared to him anyways, the way their eyes dilate with fear, the way their hands shake oh so slightly around their weapon. However, this is a double-edged sword. He never wants women nor children to fear. He was once a kid scared, and he never wants to be the reason someone wakes with nightmares.

Speaking of nightmares, he still has them. More than he likes to admit, but that's his cross to bear. He knows he's a killer, a murderer, even if a deep, uncorrupt part of him kills to admit it.

Tree climber (no I don't really have an explanation for this. Just look at him)

Great hider. When wanting to proof yourself sniper worthy, you need to know how to make yourself small or invisible. However a 6 foot something man cannot make himself small but he can hide. He knows how to contort his body to hide best. Uses the darkest part of his uniform to hide in the shadows. When you see a pair of eyes staring down at you, pray he has mercy on your soul.

NSFW Headcannons

Doesn't do one night stands due to the whole "having to talk to people" aspect. No, he much rather masturbate though he doesn't do it often eithier. (Life as Colonel is tiring.) He doesn't have one specific thing he jerks off to. He just chases the feeling of his hand.

Speaking of his hands, they're rough. Years of fighting left them calloused. And they feel good on him. He thrust himself into his hand wildly, only seeking release. He's wild like an animal in heat, not caring for how much his bed may squeak.

When he's about to come, his hands shake slightly and he fidgets all over the bed. He almost always tears up and may shed a tear or two when climaxing due to how tightly he closes his eyes.

Silver

Is such a brat. Will unbashingly tease you when you can't reach things, but will still help you with a teasing smirk on his face.

Will call you things like, "short stack, shortie, fun sized.", but only in a private setting. It's never in malice though.

When you're out in public however, he drops the nicknames and usually tends to use your first name.

If someone other than him teases you in public about your height?

His Typhlosion will desecrate them without a moments hesitation. Both him and his pokemon are very protective of you.

Cress

He's the shorter twin, he gets you. Sometimes it sucks to be on the shorter side but you gotta make some good out of it.

Good thing that since he's still taller than you he can hug you from behind and rest his head on top of yours.

He likes to do this at the more private of times though.

If it gets you down he is quick to reassure you, and overtime you come to be comfortable with it if you weren't already.

He is always offering to help you reach things like ingredients, or tall placed dishware in the cupboards.

He's even named a dish after you since your stature reminds him of a little Pidove.

Surprisingly but not really, a popular item on the menu, especially when you serve them to the customers yourself. Pidove hairclip for all to see.

Cheren

He's such a tall guy compared to you that it'd been more than one occasion you've both gotten comments on it.

He secretly likes that your shorter than him because your face would come to the middle of his chest when he hugged you. It made him feel like you were safe with him and he could protect you.

When he has classes as a teacher when he's not a gym leader his students comment on how short you were compared to him.

He would chuckle softly in reply before telling them that there were all kinds of people and it was nothing to feel different about.

This made your heart melt when you heard this while you were holding the lunch he forgot outside his classroom door.

Curtis

He wouldn't care in the slightest, absolutely not. He would take it as the list of ever expanding aspects he adored about you.

He is so busy with his idol work that he never figured he would be able to date anyone and fall in love, so when you came along it absolutely didn't matter to him. Didn't matter what size, looks, height, etc.

He loves you so much and is so protective of you when you're out in public and will immediately shut down any comments that would even have the chance of turning sour.

He likes when the two of you are fishing and you catch a rather huge catch that you have to stand in your tippy toes so the poor Magikarp isn't bending at the earth below as he takes a picture.

If you can't see something he lifts you up from your sides to where you can see and has offered to give you a lift to take a picture of things closer when your camera wasn't cooperating. He surprisingly strong.

A Delicate Villainy - Bible's Vegas

A case study of acting techniques

For me amongst all the main actors, Bible has the weakest acting skills. There are moments here and there where he either overacts or under performs - it's not a big deal really, every new actor has a learning curve, plus Bible is apparently really young [all my knowledge about him comes from what people post here because I usually don't care about celebrities and their personal lives, only their performances] Also you'd be surprised by how much of an actor's "performance" depends on the final editing and which shots were chosen for the final copy of an episode/film, so yeah, the definition of "good acting skills" is a mix of both objective and subjective perspectives. So according to me, Bible's inexperience is really evident sometimes, especially compared to the entirely effortless delivery of the rest of his co-actors.

Having said that, there are also moments when Bible's Vegas just.... blows me away.

First up is his physicality - I really like the way he holds his body. Bible isn't the tallest or largest man around and he doesn't try to be, so the first thing you actually notice is his face, which again, is a remarkably fierce face - a resting villain face, if you will - it's very ethereal in it's quality. That combined with Bible's extremely soft voice gives Vegas a sweet edge. Bible's Vegas is feline in his grace, a leopard or a lynx - compare that to Mile's Kinn who is also graceful but like a lioness, very hefty in his presence lacking Vegas' delicacy.

Bible's biggest strength is in appearing very soft and very sharp simultaneously. The next two gifs are from the same episode and the same scene with but look how gentle he looks in one and how cunning in the other. His softness is even more evident when his hair is fluffy rather than gelled as it is here. (Pool scene with Porsche)

He is also very good at using his entire body to act. This scene below is one of my favorites - he looks so broken down and in need of a hug, I was ready to forgive all his crimes in this moment, literally had adoption papers ready and everything.

And yet again, it's hard to believe that the human mess above is the same guy as this asshole 👇 he nailed this one frame, could feel the unhinged energy through to my bones, but notice how he still keeps it delicate not giving in to machismo like Kinn or even Porsche do.

Bible is actually very good at doing this sort of regular human to unhinged gremlin transitions and it's always thrilling to see that happens. I am just- this is just such good shit, I am living for this 😩

My absolute favourite scene though is this one- it's actually just another example of Vegas changing his skin in a split second, from polite softness to ruthless murderer.

Another rather unexplored aspect of his acting is the comedy. He really only got to be intentionally funny a couple of times in the entire series but I think he nailed those scenes. Would have loved to see more of that. Take this instance for example - it's so subtle but aaaaah it had me in fits. (Also his outfit here is absolutely bonkers - another post I wrote about Kinnporsche's Wardrobe)

Vegas' scenes in episode 13 have been my favourite so far. Bible has managed to successfully capture the duality of Vegas - he is a victim and a villain at the same time, he is hungry for love and a conduit of hatred at the same time, he needs help but has burned all the bridges where he could have received it (Pete, Porsche, his cousins). He realises his mistakes are too big to be forgiven but he still wants to be forgiven. He is so, so human and Bible just- Bible has played this character with so much sympathy you can't help but feel it yourself a bit.

Last but not the least, this scene - Bible has done such a good job at portraying Vegas' sensuality. It is very different and delicate from Kinn and Porsche's soft machismo and juvenility. Its just another aspect of crafting the perfectly balanced villainy of Vegas and yeah, Bible has indeed been a great casting choice for this role. 10/10 will watch him in any show again.

PLEASE tell me ur thoughts abt this series im in love with it !!! the framing of hikaru's issues as inherently blameless is amazing to see, and the focus on letting hikaru enjoy what he likes and letting him choose/listening to all the ways he communicates made me so happy. the way sachiko firmly refuses to let people be ableist or mistreat hikaru is so refreshing, and her patience and intentional care and observation ends up encouraging other people to stand up for themselves and build a lovely community of support and acceptance. i especially liked the incisive way they address people's condescending attempts at caring (the parents' talking down to sachiko, the teacher offering to make the races have no winners, etc). im so glad u posted abt this, i definitely never would have found it otherwise, and i would Love to hear ur thoughts ^_^

Dude!!!! I am so glad that you had read this series and enjoyed it, I'm SO thrilled that I finally was able to find a site where I could recommend it to people! I could spend hours talking about every single minute detail of this series that I love -- if I tried to talk about it here, I'd probably break the text box lmao. I keep trying to break it down to broad strokes and failing, I love the characters, I love the narrative, I love the educational aspects and the way it handles all these different topics and the fact that throughout the series, the thing that always comes through the loudest to me is a deep felt love of Autistic people and the Hope that one day the world as a whole will change to accept us as we are.

Hikaru isn't the POV character, but this series never falls into the mistake of forgetting that he is a character. There's no Symbolic Representation here (see Jessie Gender's video on this topic for more on that); Hikaru isn't just a walking DSM checklist of autistic traits -- he is a full person with likes, dislikes, interests, friendships, and even with his autistic traits, they're unique and specific to him instead of a broad attempt to make him carry the whole of the spectrum on his shoulders. (That's one of many aspects where I think the choice of narrative really works for the series -- having one family move through a variety of different schools, services, and organizations means that there's ample opportunity to introduce a wide range of characters that can highlight different traits, behaviors, and points on the spectrum without it being overly pointed or confusing).

And the series is always sympathetic to his perspective; we never really get into Hikaru's head, but the characters and the narrative still absolutely ooze an empathy for his experiences throughout the series. The characters often talk about not only the stress of having autistic children, but the stress of being an autistic child. They talk about sensory experiences as being overwhelming and painful, they identify the struggle to identify your surroundings as scary, discuss how frustrating it must feel to not be able to express yourself effectively. Sometimes it's speculative -- although they do also sometimes talk about having read things that actually autistic people have written about being autistic, but the core empathy is always present. Even when discussing something frustrating or dangerous (a mother talking about how her daughter sometimes tries to run into the street because she likes the white painted lines on the road), they still often take the time to consider and empathize with their children's point of view ("If the whole world was confusing and overwhelming, then it must be a relief to find something to look at that always stays the same").

and YEAH i love the way this series handles communication. Again, the narrative works in its favor on this topic, because Hikaru doesn't have to be someone who uses a shit tonne of different communication methods; they found what works for him and stick with it, but can also talk to other parents/educators about all the options that exist out there. The series goes into depth about a lot of different methods of communication, all of which are celebrated and accepted - deliberate use of direct speech, more abstract use of verbal speech, PECs cards, AAC technology, written directives and lists people can point to, type to talk, nonverbal gestures, body language, etc.

But to me, the most important conversation about communication is a moment when Hikaru's elementary school teacher Aoki is talking about another autistic student in his class. He is talking to the children's mothers, and pulls up his sleeve to reveal an injury on his arm from where Miyu bit him -- "Whenever I see this, I realize that I'm not communicating with Miyu-chan in a way she understands". Not only is Miyu "Allowed" to bite without being punished, but the biting itself is not dismissed as an aberrant "bad behavior" that needs correction, but is correctly identified as a method of communication that the allistic adults around her need to listen to. Miyu cannot talk and she's too little to read or write, she can only communicate her frustrations in the few, limited options available to her -- until she's able to learn how to express herself in more effective ways, it's important for the people around her to pay attention and actively listen to the ways through which she can express herself -- including in strange or "inconvenient" ways, such as biting.

And the very deliberate ways they teach Hikaru how to communicate is also Super fucking important. It's really significant to me that the first things Sachiko wants to work with Hikaru on are 1.) How to express needs/wants and 2.) How to tell her "No". For the series to correctly identify that the ability to tell someone "No" is not only a right, but an absolutely vital life skill is SO significant. Not only does Sachiko accept the idea that Hikaru will tell her no, she takes deliberate steps to teach him how to do so. The series goes into depth on how Sachiko (and Hikaru's other caregivers/educators) help teach him how to correct them when they screw up, how to ask for things he needs and reject things he doesn't, how to set his own boundaries and communicate his needs and dislikes -- no matter what that communication looks like.

I love that the series and the characters' main focus is never on getting Hikaru to "fit in" to society, but to figure out how to live a life that works for him, that allows him to be as independent as possible, no matter what other people think about how it looks for him. Another really important moment in the series for me is when Hikaru's grandmother is saying that the progress he's made since he was a small child isn't good enough, and when she asks "What happens to children like him?" Sachiko is absolutely stalwart when she says "He'll grow up, and become a young man with autism" and DUDE i love that so much. Not a single hint of the notion that he'll either be infantilized forever or somehow grow out of his autism, it fully embraces the fact that he'll be an autistic adult and remains adamant that that's a good thing!!!

Again, I could talk about this forever. I love that the series always empathizes with Hikaru's meltdowns and never just dismisses them as "tantrums", and when other characters talk about meltdown prevention, it's never in terms of "Well, we need to figure out how to force Hikaru to get used to X", it's always in terms of "I should have realized he was reaching a breaking point before things got that bad; we need to help Hikaru learn tools to calm down and make sure he knows how to establish boundaries and leave situations that aren't good for him". With the right adults, Hikaru is always able to leave an overwhelming situation and not return until he has decided he's calm enough to try again - no one pushes him to recover faster than he's ready to. I think there's one scene in the entire series when two adults who don't know what they're doing try to restrain Hikaru during a meltdown, and every other time Hikaru reaches that point, the other characters make sure to give him ample space to calm down without overwhelming him further.

I love the ways this series handles ableism in all of its forms. It addresses ableism that comes from ignorance, from malice, and from places that are "well-meant" in really educational and helpful ways. I love love love the way the series normalizes disability when explaining it to children -- there's a few moments throughout the series where other kids mock Hikaru, but the adults handle it so wonderfully. The "Hikaru struggles to talk the same way you struggle to run a marathon" explanations do so much to make disability just a normal thing, instead of some awful secret that you're never allowed to address directly. I think it's really wonderful.

I think this post is getting too long, tumblr is getting mad at me lol. There's still so much I'd love to talk about: I love how the author includes so many lovingly illustrated panels of Hikaru stimming, I love that his family is allowed to be frustrated without that frustration ever coming across in a way that demonizes Hikaru, I love the relationship that he has with his younger sister, I love all of the friendships that he's made and maintained since he was a toddler, I love the "It takes a village" approach that really highlights the significance of having a good support system, and I love all the different people that come together to help teach Hikaru and make sure that his dignity and independence are always prioritized. I love the little details of Hikaru's character like the way that he's really good at identifying/taking care of plants, and his love of dolphins, and the way he repeats the things his friends say to him to hold onto the thoughts after they go home/back to class. I even love how some of the teachers that Hikaru has in school aren't always great at their jobs (I actually think the Gunji-sensei arc is one of my favorites in the whole series), and I love all the side characters that the series introduces us to, and the care that the author has when educating readers about autism and all the different aids/accommodations that can make life easier and less frustrating/painful.

UGH I really do love this series so much, I'd happily keep talking about it and answering questions about it for forever! If my ramblings have encouraged anyone else to give the series a shot, I'll leave you with this: the first two chapters are the hardest to get through because Sachiko and Hikaru are extremely isolated and Sachiko does not understand what Autism is yet -- if you're hesitant about it, you can skip to chapter three where things start to look up a little more sharply and start there instead, and please continue to read through the rest of the series. It's truly one of my favorite autism medias of all time <3

At Easter. Jesus, I've had a full meltdown that morning. Ugly crying in my pillow for the first time in years. But since then I feel so light.

do you have kids?

No and I doubt I will ever have any… Sometimes I want one but this must be hormones because I would hate that lifestyle.

do you use sarcasm a lot?

Naah, I can't see the appeal. A sarcastic comment can be funny sometimes, but if you use it in excess most people will be on edge around you… I don't like to interact with people who makes me feel silly, so I try to avoid making people feel that way.

what’s the first thing you notice about people?

I don't know how to describe this but is like… The space they ocuppy. The way they move. How they interact with their surrounds, like, if they make a lot of noise, if they are careful handling things… I'm notably bad at noticing/retaining physical characteristics but that soet of thing always pick my attention.

Brown. Unfortunately not the big, sad brown eyes type but I'm still winning.

Happy endings all the way. I'm not even ashamed of it anymore. I hate being scared, but even more I love to see/imagine the many different ways in which characters can find happiness/purpurose/meaning.

No ;-; I want to, in the future, but I never had pets and I'm not sure if I could take care of one properly. If I had one, it would be a cat or a small dog, because I'm that original. (And I wouldn't be allowed to have a jaguar. Or a tiger.)

Ok, ok, that's a hard one. My first answar would be an editor — for fiction, especifically. Reading texts all day and helping authors in their creative process? I can't imagine anything better. But what about telling authors that they have to change their beloved creation because it isn't marketable? Doesn't sounds that nice. So is it a dream job if I'm not sure about all the aspects of it?

But the reason I didn't try to pursue it is because very few people read here so it's not a viable career option.

That's also the reason why I'm not going to the other side of the table either. Being an author is the one thing that I have yerned to be for half of my life now (it's more a curse than a dream, tbh) and I will publish a book one day, at least one, but that is something I'll have to do for fun.

There are many other things that I would like to do, cleaning, teaching, etc, but I noticed that they are more "fun things I could do if weren't for shitty people/laughable pay/violence" than "dream jobs".

Of course I do! And I have no problem doing this, though the answers might be short, sorry. I'm so sorry about that but hope you'll enjoy anyway!

1) Gets turnt up at a party on caprisun

Okay, if it wasn't Caprisun but actual alcohol, Mirror is the cheapest and easiest drunk while Brooklyn is the one who enjoys a good drink the most (and can hold her liquor the best). Caprisun though? It's super sugary and I've always seen Cat as the OC there that's most prone to sugar rushes...along with caffeine really affecting her, as a bonus headcanon.

2) Laughs a lot

I think this one is a three way tie between Amber, Dell, and Mari, all of whom are quick to laugh and smile. Mari and Amber are both just quick to find either the fun or the positives in a situation whilst the trickster Dell knows that laughter and smiles often can be used to great effect to endear yourself to others.

3) Will blare loud death metal music but is a cinnamon roll

Okay, death metal doesn't really exist in The Ever Young, but if it did, this is so Nina or Mirror, mostly because this girl behind the screen actually has a really huge love for metal (been listening to way too much Children of Bodom lately haha), and because I find it funny to have someone super small and cute and seemingly completely shy and innocent like Nina be into music like that. But then, she's a lot more than she looks in most aspects.

4) Likes hugs

Okay, this is easier to answer this way:

Even the suggestion of a hug makes Mirror panic and move as far away from you as possible. Unless she really likes you and trusts you, hugging Tea will end up with her stabbing you. Dell would let you hug them but there's a 50/50 chance something really bad might end up happening to you. Hugs with Lou end up with your wallet gone, just because they can. Cat hates hugs from people she isn't close to and Whisp hates physical contact of any sort from people she doesn't trust. Brooklyn has to be in the mood for hugs, even from people she likes and while Nina likes hugs, she is really bad sometimes at remembering how strong she is so hugs can be very painful from her. So only Mari, Marta and Amber are safe bets for hugs.

5) Will stab you if you take their piece of pizza

Okay, so this is just related to food in general and not just pizza but both Lou and Whisp know what it is to starve, to be completely without food. And because of that, both of them do have some food-related insecurities that do lead them to becoming rather territorial of their food, though neither one of them would probably resort to murder if you did take it.

6) Stays up too late and regrets it

Mirror doesn't sleep. Not for pleasure, at least. She is capable of passing out from pain or because of injury but she has no need to actually sleep, nor does she know the experience of being tired.

7) Lets their phone die

Okay, phones don't really exist in The Ever Young but if they did, I see Tea being the one who cares least for her phone and the one most likely to be perpetually on low or no battery.

8) Eyebrow Game. Strong AF.

Dell has the strongest eyebrow game. Like, their eyebrows are always great...even when they shapeshift, if what they shapeshift into has eyebrows, they even make sure to bring strong eyebrow game in that form.

9) Regrets decisions made 5 seconds ago

I think almost all of the characters do face this at least once during the entire storyline, but I think it happens most frequently for both Amber, who does things just for her own amusement without really thinking things completely through, and Nina, who , when upset, becomes just someone who acts completely on emotion and impulse.

10) Will punch you in the face, and you will thank them for it

Amber, Tea, and Mari can all do this and the person would have either asked them to or thanked them for doing so because of powers these women possess throughout the story.

11) Listens to gentle instrumental music but looks like they will kill you

Tea is someone I do see as enjoying just peaceful instrumentals during meditation or training, something soothing and calm in the background for her mind to absorb. Make no mistake though, not only does she look like she'll kill you, if you pose a real and present danger to her or those she feels the need to protect, she will gut you.

12) Makes flower crowns

I don't know why but there is actually a scene, because it popped into my head as something cute and light and charming in between some super serious moments, just kind of roughly written out, of both Nina and Cat chilling together in the grass and making flower crowns together for the others.

13) Makes non-funny puns

Amber loves to toss out really horrible pick-up lines to make others laugh and it's hit or miss on whether they succeed. Meanwhile Lou has a very dry and acerbic wit and a lot of their jokes tend to go over people's heads.

14) May or may not own 500 stuffed animals with all intricate plotlines and personalities

Okay, so it's not so much stuffed animals, but I do think Whisp is someone who made up lots of imaginary friends, fully fleshed out people with their own families and stories and personalities, to combat some of the loneliness she's spend a lot of her time in.

15) Has an obsession with dragons

Its' Dell. I don't even know why, it was just the first and immediate answer that came to mind and the only answer that feels at all right.

16 & 17) Doesn't blink twice when it comes to murder & will offer to kill someone for their friend

Okay, I am going to combine these two. And I'm going to be upfront before any of the story beyond the world-building even gets posted. Upfront and honest - The Ever Young is not a soft place. It is not a safe, secure, happy world where there are no real stakes in place. The Ever Young, at the point we go into the story at, is a powder keg, a land on the brink of all out war. There are no guarantees of safety or continued survival for anyone living in that land and even the most pacifistic of these OC's, if push comes to shove, would end up killing to protect either themselves but especially their loved ones.

18) Likes rocks

Mirror, for some reason not even she understands, seems to have retained a comprehensive and thorough knowledge of the various types of rocks and gemstones and the symbolism behind them. I mean, she can't remember anything about herself but she knows all that. I also see Marta and Cat both liking pretty rocks and gemstones, with Marta being prone to wearing jewelry made of them, particularly a necklace Kusakabe gifted her made of turquoise.

19) Knows how to bake a cake

I see both Mari and Marta being good bakers. And what's more, it's something both women truly enjoy doing and before things got so bad in The Ever Young, I like to believe the two women would meet up throughout their years growing up together to have baking dates, where they'd talk and laugh and enjoy each others company whilst making delicious treats.

20) Knows all the words to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody

Okay, so again, I don't think this is something that would canonically exist in the world of The Ever Young, but if it did, the answer to this question would be Brooklyn and Cat both because nothing will ever convince me that all of HOMRA's boys don't know every word to this song and that they don't sometimes just spontaneously and drunkenly start singing it in the bar.

21) Has screen shots that will ruin lives

While not screenshots, because again, no cell phones exist in The Ever Young, both Whisp and Dell tend to trade in information and secrets and that's part of what makes both characters quite as dangerous as they are.

22) Likes being petty

Honestly, Amber does find some amount of joy in being a little childish and petty, maybe even instigating some petty revenge or prank wars, though she never becomes actively mean and cruel in those endeavors unless the person in question truly deserves it.

23) Will cut you

Tea is one of the most accomplished and well-known swordswomen in the land. She won't just cut you, she'll carve you up like a Christmas turkey.

24) Will get angry at themselves when they develop a crush on someone

Okay, Mirror struggles to really understand her own emotions and even more so, she struggles to feel like it's okay for her to have any of those emotions, especially towards other people, as she feels she would just be a burden or something unpleasant to them so the first sign of her liking someone would honestly scare her so much. I also think Lou, Dell, and Whisp have really hard times trusting other people fully and so, when they feel that attachment or attraction to another person, they do have some complicated and conflicting emotions because they are scared to let people get too close to them, because they all have been burned badly by people in their pasts.

25) Will fight someone twice their size

Nina? She isn't even five feet tall. Does that stop her from kicking ass and taking on a literal giant at one point? Most definitely not and she'll tell you it was one of the most fun experiences she's ever had, she had a ball going up against him.

I'm sure you may have answered something similar before so feel free to ignore this but do you have any tips on how to deal with social dysphoria? When I look at myself in the mirror I don't really see a woman, if that makes sense but then when I'm out Im mostly getting misgendered and referred to as one and it kinda sucks (though there are very few rare occasions when someone doesn't know which is a high I wish I could hold onto).

I'm not sure if I'll ever medically transition and I don't quite want to cut my hair because it's important to me. I do dress in men's clothes but it obviously isn't doing enough. Am I just going to be stuck in this woman box forever unless I do something medically or something? Would vocal training help? I'm just, the social dysphoria is the only thing that is really painful lol, I wish I could just not care how strangers view me since I'm never going to see them again most likely.

social dysphoria is one of the hardest parts and i understand it completely, i've known a lot of people who feel like they want to just give up being trans or transitioning because the social transition aspect is so hard and i don't blame you at all for feeling like you're struggling so hard for nothing. it can really feel hopeless at times because of how many people make assumptions

i wanted to say that other people misgendering you is not a sign of failure at being trans, or that you're not who you think you are. i think social transition is so hard because so much of it is out of our control, you don't have a whole lot of control over how someone else is going to perceive you and that can be super overwhelming to deal with

i think vocal training could definitely help, and it could ease some dysphoria as well! strangers tend to really weigh heavily on the tone and pitch of the voice to address one another for whatever reason. they think they're being polite when they heavily gender you to match how your voice sounds but it's not polite, it's just a guess. most of the trans men i know get misgendered due to their voice, so if you are able to take the time to train your voice lower it can definitely help

what helped me in my social transition was having even 1 local queer friend who could go places with me and do stuff with me. even if a stranger misgenders me, i have my friend there who knows who i am, and can even stand up for me if i require it. it really can help to have someone there for you. even if it's an internet friend you can text while you're out and feeling shitty, sometimes that can make all the difference

Yandere Beatrix Sakamaki Hc's

🔹Technically speaking, Beatrix is a good person but sadly also rather awkward. Even with centuries on this planet, she seems to have problems expressing her feelings properly to her darling which is why she often comes over as a strict and cold person. There are indeed certain expectations she has on her darling since she is a bit obsessed with her s/o being perfect just like her son Reiji. She forces a lot on you similar to what Shu has to go through because of her. Behavior is highly valued in her eyes and so she does belittle and chides you when you do something wrong and gives a mild punishment.

🔹From all vampires in the Diabolik Lovers series, she is still one of the very few people who isn't very sadistic. She loves her s/o very much but due to her awkward personality and lack of knowledge how to handle an obsession over a human, she unwittingly ends up scaring you a bit and giving off the wrong expression. She is the second wife of Karlheinz so you'd expect her to not be very experienced when it comes to a relationship yet she appears to be aware of her own obsession she has. Beatrix doesn't want to look as clumsy as she feels with her feelings though, especially in front of her sons since she wants to raise them properly. She's also paranoid that Cordelia will try to hurt or even kill you since she hates Beatrix for birthing the oldest children. For that reason alone she is protective enough to never let you leave her side.

🔹The second wife doesn't seem like a jealous or possessive type which is mainly because she does not let you leave her side or let you see the outside world again. As her partner you shouldn't bother yourself with unnecessary things like the outside world and with that also everyone outside apart from her sons. She views other people as a bad influence who will taint you and everything she's taught you. She isn't jealous when her own children spend time with you either since she is willing to admit that you are in some aspects better with her boys than she is. Especially since she sort of neglects Reiji and favors Shu since he is the firstborn son.

🔹Since we already know how she feels about the outside world, you must know the answer to her opinion about kidnapping as well. Now, in that aspect Beatrix might be a bit more delusional because whilst she views her fixation on you as rather unhealthy, she doesn't view the abduction part as really bad. Her s/o should see it as a favor to be away from all impudent and uneducated monkeys who forgot how manners work and will be willing and dedicated to teach you what other humans failed to teach you. She thinks of kidnapping more as a privilege since you shouldn't get soiled by the disgusting world outside of the castle with drunk and violent people.

🔹As a lady of manners, Beatrix sees herself above falling for petty and primal emotions. She knows better than to charge in without thinking and she has almost zero reasons to kill someone. Who is there left besides her sons anyways after she took you under her arms? The only person she is really afraid of is Cordelia since that nasty woman tries to constantly attack you since she knows that Beatrix treasures you in her own awkward way. She fears that Karlheinz might attempt something as well but looking on how he is in general completely uninterested about what everyone in the castle does as long as they follow his orders, she sees him as the smaller threat for now. Never someone to soil her hands, she normally orders a servant to do the dirty work or poisons someone. Reiji sometimes takes care of a potential pest as well because not only does he want to be acknowledged by Beatrix, if you pay attention to him and praise him he might start to become quite possessive and obsessive over you as well.

🔹Taking everything into account, Beatrix is probably one of the nicest people to have as a Yandere. Her impassive side is a facade since she does not know how to romance someone properly but with time she probably warms up if her s/o is the patient and understanding type. The chances are big that Shu and Reiji will grow up viewing you as their real other parent and turning into platonic Yanderes themselves. Beatrix isn't even opposed to that since it means that she can count on her sons to protect you as well and since she kind of hopes that with you she can fix the dysfunctional family dynamic.

[Idols After Dark] Lee Hoe Taek (Pentagon)

You can see this as a reversed version of usual appreciation post where fans describe all the good and positive sites of their favourite idols. However, nobody in the world is perfect, am I right? And according to famous psychologist Carl Gustav Jung we should accept, embrace and bring to light all our negative and dark sites as well because they only become dangerous for us if they stay hidden within our souls. And to honour this great man I decided to bring to the light some of the more negative aspects of Hui's personality to appreciate them in a way.

Are you excited? Are you curious? Are you outraged because Hui has no flaws at all? Let's see!

Disclaimer: I have never met Hui personally, I don't know him in any other way than what is publicly known about him and probably even less because I'm constantly busy and I didn't read everything about him. This whole post is based on my pure speculation, it was made for entertainment purposes and I have to put it clear it has nothing to do with a real Lee Hoe Taek as a person. It's all just a mere fiction, please don't take any of it seriously. You have every right to disagree with anything written in this text and I welcome all kinds of constructive and respectful criticism, please feel free to express your opinions in the comments. The Dark Side of Hui (Pentagon)

Lee Hoe Taek is a highly respected leader of Pentagon, lyricist and producer who restlessly works on many projects at once and he might seem perfect at first sight but is that so?

Hoe Taek is a perfectionist which is a well-known fact about him, no surprise there. Such quality is surely an asset in his job but can be tricky when dealing with others, especially if people around him don't share his point of view. Hoe Taek might seem even pedantic sometimes, focused on details. When he concentrates on something there's no way you could disturb him. You could be on fire and he would be sitting there with his headphones on and composing another hit completely oblivious about his surroundings. He is willing to spend hours on one particular detail till he finds it perfect.

Hoe Taek will always look neat and will always be clean. He notices filth and bad taste very easily and as much as he's strict with himself he will spot flaws and imperfections on others, too. He is the kind of person standing in the crowd with eyes sliding from person to person and noticing every single crime against fashion, hygiene or a good taste. He spots invisible specks, he will search for needles in the carpet. You can try to hide any kind of imperfection from him but he will spot that part of the shirt you didn't iron properly, the shoe laces not tied tightly enough, the one tiny pimple you thought is hidden by your earlobe, you can't fool Hoe Taek for a second.

Hoe Taek likes to keep his home in perfect shape, neat, clean, tidy. Any kind of mess or clutter around will make him nervous and annoying. He will be the one categorically insisting on a proper duties schedule and god have mercy on your soul if you forget it was your turn to take out the garbage / wash the dishes / do the laundry. He will let you know how you disappointed him.

Hoe Taek is not the one to show much emotion, he is a practical kind of guy and prefers a sensible approach to things. He doesn't like people making theatrical scenes. However if he feels pushed into something he's not comfortable with... Better brace yourself because an Oscar winning scene will take place. He will go from calm and sensible person to award winning prima donna in a second.

Hoe Taek is not money oriented despite loving his work. The money is not the thing that makes him happy. He can be very generous with it and will be the one to always help out to anyone of his friends. However, spoiling isn't his thing. Be sure he will keep you under check and won't just give pointlessly. He is a caring person but he can't be abused or fooled in any way. He doesn't have much mercy on people who he considers to be responsible for their own misfortune. He might seem harsh or cruel in this matter sometimes.

As for Hoe Taek's relationships he seeks loyalty and devotion. He doesn't like to be played around, he admires honesty and purity. Hoe Taek is likely the one to get along with anyone but there's a lot on his mind about the people around him. He is mentally judging them on every step and he won't open up to just anybody.

All in all Lee Hoe Taek is a perfectionist with strong will and steady points of view and x-ray vision to detect flaws.

Once again, this is something I have written in 2020. I don't have new dark sides for now but because you liked the Yunho one, I thought I could share Hui as well.

glad Jihyun is getting love but PLEASE be gentle and don't sporadically touch him without warning! this is an asexual man with a lot of trauma re: relationships (familial and romantic) and we don't want to put him in a bad mental place!

V definitely does struggle with a lot of trauma around relationships and how he imagines himself in them. It's complicated for him. He has said that he doesn't like to reveal parts of his body because he's insecure. That's why it always surprises me whenever the official media draws him in a swimsuit cause I know he’s not comfortable.

He doesn't get to talk about this in detail but it's mentioned enough for you to get the idea he’s wary of taking off his shirt and revealing himself. Personally, I always like to imagine that part of the reason why he doesn't like to show his body is because he has scars from the accident. People always tell him that he's the spitting image of his mother. It's hard to look in the mirror when he has to see her face and all of these scars from the accident.

When you have scars like that, people always ask invasive questions and get into your business. It doesn't matter how much you try to advocate for yourself and make them stop asking. People want to know anything and everything when they see something. He doesn't want to talk about it. He wants to avoid talking about his mother and the accident as much as humanly possible.

Cheritz won’t confirm he’s got any sort of burn scars from the house fire, but I think he does. Whenever he has to look at himself, he has to think about the fact that he got those scars and lost his mother at the same time. It was when he lost his mother that most of his self-confidence started to fade... but looking in the mirror if he was left with scars wouldn't make it any better for him.

The same can be said for his heart. He struggles with knowing if what he's feeling is love or not. Think about his dynamic with Rika! It took him a long time to realize what he felt wasn't love. He feels like he has a hard time identifying what is love and what isn't. That's why he took the time to travel and figure out more about himself before deciding that he wanted to pursue a romantic relationship with you in the first place. He needed to reflect and learn.

I genuinely do think from a serious place that if you get into a deep relationship with him you need to be aware of this aspect of him. He will talk about it with you. Don't take it lightly and don't ignore it if you get with him.

There are boundaries that he needs time and care to work on. It'll get easier but he still seems like he'll be skittish even as he starts to feel comfortable in his skin. It's not easy to unlearn insecurities and fears about yourself. You make him feel good about himself. He just needs time to get to that place. It's hard to look in the mirror sometimes, so, only smack that butt of his with consent and glee.

This goes for any relationship, make sure to check your boundaries with your partner on what is and isn't comfortable.

Sexuality Beyond Consent: Risk, Race, Traumatophilia

Author and psychoanalyst Avgi Saketopoulou acknowledges that many aspects of sexuality are bound up with trauma such that they are inherently risky, but rather than focusing on healing the trauma, Avgi thinks about what we do with it. Since these encounters are not necessarily possible within the realm of affirmative consent, Avgi proposes the concept of limit consent, something that probably will feel familiar for people involved in any kind of kink. I've only just finished the first chapter and there's a lot I don't understand, but so far this book is incredible. The next bit isn't from the book, it's just me thinking about how sex and ideas of consent play out in society.

I've been looking forward to this book for several months, ever since I heard it was going to be released. The way people invoke affirmative consent as gospel has honestly bothered me for years. Not because it "kills the mood" or something, but because I think it's really common for people to have positive experiences that break the rule of affirmative consent. If I tell a friend about a good experience that wasn't technically "consensual" (quotes because I don't believe affirmative consent is the only model of consent), it doesn't help anyone if they point out that my consent was violated. Worst case, that could reframe my memory of the experience from a positive one to traumatic. Sometimes that might be good and necessary, but it can also be harmful. I've had memories and experiences reframed like this in both positive and negative (you might even say nonconsensual) ways. And I think the focus on affirmative consent is part of why you see overzealous call-outs or witch hunts or shunning in some communities when certain formulaic ideas of "safe" or "consensual" practice were not followed.

I also think it's interesting that sexuality gets a special model of consent that society doesn't apply to any other area of life. To me, sexuality is very similar to therapy. You enter into a relationship knowing you're going to make yourself extremely vulnerable to another person, but not knowing how it'll go. Both sex and therapy can end up being painful experiences, positive experiences, or traumatic experiences, or even all three. A good therapist will be careful to make sure you're engaging consensually, but there's essentially no protection from bad therapists who can even take away your freedom by having you involuntarily committed. Similarly, children are legally protected from sexual violation, but they are not protected from other forms of abuse that are potentially far worse. While affirmative consent is seductive for it's simplicity and specificity, it's an overly simplified black and white model for a complicated subject. It prevents us from taking valuable risks (like Avgi argues), while diverting focus from the (imo) more fundamental but politically fraught principle of bodily autonomy. I think Avgi is charting out a better model for understating consent and sexuality.

Like I said, I've only just started reading this book. It's pretty heavy on philosophy and psychoanalytic theory for my science brain, so it's slow going, but so far it's absolutely fascinating.

like tbh the biggest thing I want to see with edelgard? is her learning to trust people and being forced to build a foundation of openness and the ability to Ask For Help when she needs it. and re: the agarthans issue, she definitely needs it.

like especially too if there was ever the chance for her to speak with the other lords, I'd love to see a process around edelgard having to adjust and challenge herself and maybe even freak out a bit because she has to take these chances. I want to see byleth, whom shes probably attached to because theyre so.. neutral, outside of what shes been dealing with, be more forecful with facilitating her reaching out. I want to see dimitri taking a chance to talk to her, I want to see her be able to hesitantly discuss different aspects of her experiences with both him and claude but maybe find out some specifically with claude because he would understand them better and to see them connect over it. I want to see hubert, too, eventually have to come around and I want to see conflict because of that. hell, I feel like hubert having to reckon with edelgard's new course of action and all of those risks could be good grounds for like, having dedue pull him aside for A Talk because MAN do I think those two would actually have a lot to talk about.

this isn't even getting into the eventuality of ferdinand involving himself and by extension causing problems because he's direct and insensitive at times and he'll also have to learn a lesson from that, but anyway

“You still haven’t apologized?”

She did not flinch. But she did let her gaze wander over his shoulder to a passing student, which might have been equally telling, judging from the way Claude groaned as he threw himself back in his chair. “Edelgard!”

“What?”

“Don’t you feel even the tiniest bit guilty about saying that?”

“Why should I?” she asked. “I only tried to motivate them.”

“How was that supposed to motivate them?”

“It spurs me to think--”

“Princess, you’ve gotta stop putting other people in your shoes and try to put yourself in theirs.”

“...I don’t understand.”

He sighed, vigorously mussing his own hair. “Alright. Okay, fine, let’s try a thought experiment. Imagine for a minute that you’re an only child--”

“I’m not, I ha--”

“Imagine, I said.”

She huffed, crossing her arms and sitting back even as he leaned forward again. “You’re an only child,” he continued, “and your mother died before you had a chance to know her. For as long as you can remember, it’s just been you and your dad.”

That, at least, she could understand. Her father had long been her inspiration, supporting her grand ambitions and motivating her to continue forward. She had dreamt, sometimes, of a different life, a better life, where she might live peacefully with him…

“Growing up, you’re kind of isolated. Your dad does a lot of work as a fighter for hire, and eventually you get pulled into it with him, but he handles all the business. You don’t interact much with people besides him and maybe some of your fellow mercenaries, but you don’t mind. Your dad takes care of you, and makes sure you have everything you need, and you don’t feel like you’re missing out on anything.”

She made a thoughtful sound, taking a sip of tea. Claude seemed rather wistful, but she made no comment, simply listening to the words and trying to keep focus on the dream of herself and her father leading a happy life together, growing up under his kindness and care...

“Then, out of the blue, you get thrown into something you’re totally unequipped to deal with. You’re expected to lead, when you’ve never been a leader, and expected to teach when you’ve only ever been the one learning. Your dad is still there, though, and he helps how he can, but...you start to realize that he’s been keeping secrets -- and not just about himself. You’d never even thought about it before, but you’re seeing a whole world you never knew existed, one that he lived in longer than you’ve been alive, that he could have talked about but never did. And you don’t know why.”

She frowned, setting her cup back in its saucer. Would her father keep such secrets from her? Had he kept such secrets from her? She’d been spirited away to Faerghus so quickly when the Insurrection occurred...and it had been by her uncle’s hand. Had it been on her father’s orders…?

“You want answers -- of course you do, who wouldn’t, right? -- and he promises to tell you when there’s time for you both. But then, when he gets back, just when it looks like things will become clearer, and you’ll be able to understand him better than you ever had before...he dies. It’s not the end of a long battle with disease or injury. It comes out of nowhere. And suddenly the person you’ve had there your whole life, the person you depended on as a child, the person who took care of you then and who’s always been there for you until now, who helped ground and tether you even when things were at their worst...is gone.”

...she had long been preparing for her father’s death. Though he was not truly old, she had watched him waste away in the years since the Insurrection ended, until he looked far older than his years. He would not live much longer, and that fact pushed her even now to wrap up her preparations and set her plans in motion...but what if he had died before? At the hands of the nobles that stole his authority, or as a result of the horrors they inflicted upon him and his family? She would have continued on…

...but her heart stumbled at the thought of such a loss, borne on top of the torments she and her siblings suffered.

“So tell me,” Claude said, breaking her out of her thoughts, “how would you handle it?”

She steeled herself, squaring her shoulders and lifting her head. “I would hunt down the culprit and see them punished for what they did.”

“Right away? When you’ve got nobody to turn to because there’s this gaping void in your life where they’d been?”

Edelgard had no answer to that.

“Look. I don’t doubt that when Teach gets back on their feet, Monica -- or whoever she really is -- is gonna pay. But you can’t force them up when they’ve got no ground to stand on anymore.”
