“My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.
For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.
And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.
And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.”
‭‭I John‬ ‭3:18-23‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

How Much Does God Love Me?
Tumblr media
God’s love is immeasurable because the scripture tells us that God is love. With that in mind, how does His love relate to us? How much does God love you and me? God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.  1 John 4:9 We occasionally sang a song with the words of 1 John 4:7-8 when we conducted Kids Crusades. You’ll see that it was years ago because of its King James language. It went like this; “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God, and every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love.”  Beloved, let us love one another. First John, four, seven, and eight. The Bible talks a lot about God’s love. The Psalmist wrote, “His love endures forever.” Today’s verse says He loves us so much that He gave His Son to die for us. The Apostle Paul gave us the definition of “agape’ love.” This is the same type of love God extends to us. - Love is patient and kind. - Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. - It does not demand its own way. - It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. - Love does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. - Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
God’s Love is Available to Everyone
Tumblr media
God loves us so much, He gave us a choice whether we will accept His love or not. Jesus bridged the gap between sinful man and God by dying on the cross for everyone.  The Lord designed it so we wouldn’t feel manipulated or forced into conforming to His plan of salvation. There are, however, rewards or consequences according to what we choose. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 Today’s scripture verse says God showed how much he loved the world. But how personal is that? How much does he really love you and me? The Psalmist wrote that it is very personal. I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul. Psalm 31:7 He cares for each of us the same way He cared for the Psalmist. As He reaches out to you are you willing to acknowledge Him? In Revelation, we read that He awaits our response. Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Revelation 3:20
The Devil Tries to Distort How Much Love God Has for You
The enemy, who is a liar, has convinced people of an untruth. His message is because God is so loving He will unconditionally permit everyone into heaven. Half of that message is true, God does want everyone to spend eternity with Him in heaven. The untruth lies in the unconditional part. Look what Peter wrote in his second epistle. The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. 2 Peter 3:9 God is patient and His patience will never wear out. Our opportunity to repent, however, will eventually come to an end.  How much does God love you and me? Enough that He made a way for us to spend eternity with Him. Check out this related post called His Faithful Love Endures Forever. Choose to accept Jesus today. If you already know Him, pray for someone who needs to know Him. Lord, thank you that your plan of salvation is simple and free. Forgive each one of us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I pray that everyone who reads this devotion will know you as their Savior. Take time to read the entire chapter of 1 John 4. The Joy Of The Lord
What is our source of joy? We read about it, and we talk and sing about it. The Bible tells us the joy of the Lord is our strength. We also find joy listed as one of the Fruit of the Spirit. The night Mary gave birth to Jesus, angels visited shepherds as they kept watch over their flocks. They came announcing the Lord's birth and revealed the source of our joy. (The angel) said. "I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! Luke 2:10  After talking to Herod, the wise men continued their journey to see the newborn King of the Jews. Filled with joy, they continued to follow the star. When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Matthew 2:10-11 Jesus not only brought joy to the world but to His Father as well. We can read about this at the Lord's baptism and at the top of the Mount of Transfiguration. - After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him.  And a voice from heaven said, "This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy." Matthew 3:16-17 - But even as he spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy. Listen to him." Matthew 17:5
Joy at the Tomb of Jesus
We can't forget about the joy the women experienced at the empty tomb of Jesus. An angel declared to them that our Lord had risen. The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel's message. Matthew 28:8 The Lord Jesus made this same joy available to us today. At the beginning of 1 John, we can read about how to experience the full and complete joy of the Lord.    We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy. 1 John 1:4  You can sense John's joy because, in this chapter's beginning verses, he made three proclamations. - We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, v.1 - Now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. v.2 - We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard. v.3 Then, in verse 5, John made a declaration. This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.1 John 1:5 So, John declared that God is light. Why did the apostle go from talking about life to the subject of light? I think we'll see why in verse 7. But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7
Experiencing Complete Joy In The Lord
In verse 9, John tied the qualities of the Christian life together: fellowship, life, light, and forgiveness of sin. Look what he said.  If we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 1 John 1:9
Tumblr media
When we look back to verse 4, John told us these things so we could experience complete joy in the Lord. Not to hoard it for ourselves, though, but to share it. In other words, we must take the joy the Lord gives us outside of ourselves. Too many Christians exhibit anything but joy, which turns non-Christians off. Years ago, we used to do a children's song with puppets called J-O-Y. The words went like this: J is for Jesus, O is for others, Y is for you. What a great pattern for our lives. During the Christmas season, and for that matter, any season, we can enjoy the joy of the Lord. Why? Because it doesn't depend on the time of year or the circumstances around us. The Lord fills us from the inside out with His joy. Our circumstances shouldn't change us. We should change them. And we can because of another verse John gave us later in this epistle. But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. 1 John 4:4 Our original question was, "What is our source of joy?" It started when the angels lit up the sky and told the shepherds, "I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people.
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas, and remember, because of the birth of Christ, your joy can be complete. In fact, there is only one type of joy. According to the Word, it only comes as "great joy." Lord, help us to complete our joy by putting Jesus first, others second, and ourselves last. The liars among us
The liars among us
“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we…
