What I wanted characters to say to each other this year so far...

(Spoilers behind the cut for: "Endeavour" series 9; "Shadow and Bone" series 2; "Good Omens" series 2; "Heartstopper" series 2)

Fred Thursday, to E Morse: I love you, you're my best friend and like a son or brother to me. I don't want to leave you behind, or neglect you. But I'm burned out, and exhausted, and scared, and you seem to be doing a lot better and meanwhile my son is disintegrating and my daughter is getting married and I am *so tired* and so terrified, so you can't be as much my priority right now as I'd like. It's hard for me to confide in anyone or let you help me. But I will try, and I do love you, so so much.

E Morse to Fred Thursday: I love you, you're my best friend and like a father or brother to me. I find it so hard to believe that you care about me, and I'm scared that everyone is leaving me behind yet again, and I'm hurt that you are, and I don't know how to help you. Aziraphale, to Crowley: we aren't going to agree on this, but I'm not leaving you behind because I don't love you. I think I'm doing the right thing. I'm scared and broken and everything is hard right now. But I love you, I ache for you, I know that you are good and kind and worthy and you don't need to be an angel for me to love you, *I will be back*.

Crowley, to Aziraphale: we aren't going to agree on this, but I'm not staying behind because I don't love you. I'm desperately worried about you and I wish I could change your mind. I'm scared and broken and everything is hard right now. I'm worried that you can't love me as I am. But I love you, I ache for you, I will try to trust you, *I will wait*.

Pretty much everyone in Heartstopper: ACTUALLY USED THEIR WORDS even if it took them a while, excellent, well played good gentlebeings. If Stephane Nelson can get his act together by s3 that'd be great (hey, Thibault has form for redeeming himself as a dad ;-) ), but Nick will cope if he doesn't. 9/10 at least for all the characters who aren't shits.

Disclaimer: this is not in any way a criticism of the writers of any of them except I think Endeavour, for I have... complicated feelings about that final episode, and whether doing That was actually really, totally necessary to set up Inspector Morse (I don't think it was, for at least two reasons, so it feels to me like gratuitous pain and the fucking up of a precious character arc tbh). But wrt Shadow and Bone and Good Omens? Fair play, that's brilliant storytelling, some things need to take their time, and romantic cliffhangers are awesome actually (provided they then get resolved at some point!). And Shadow and Bone has multiple awesome relationships, in some of which communication does actually happen. <3

But that doesn't stop me yearning for those characters to say those things, even though I think it's artistically better that the ones in S&B and GO didn't just yet. <3 Heartstopper is a different kind of show, where that would be less appropriate. But in S&B and GO it is actually brilliant. Just... ow. ;-)

Watching Heartstopper after the other three was rather a particular blessing tbh. :)

currently thinking about Booth telling Sweets that he is "living with a woman outside of the bond of holy matrimony" and that's why he hasn't been to confession, because he doesn't want to confess about that right now, and how when he's confessing to his priest he doesn't confess about the whole living together before marriage thing but because he lied to the woman he loved, because he STILL doesn't want to confess about them living together because he would have to stop living with her and he loves her and his daughter and he doesn't want to leave them, but he hates the fact that he lied to her and he wants to fix that as quickly as he can, and how when Brennan goes to Booth's ex-army priest's bar thinking that he doesn't love her or want to marry her anymore, he says "Booth loves you, not being married is a sin to him, I don't think a non-believer can understand that kind of sacrifice" and how Brennan decides to have faith in Booth and how Booth is so terrified that she might leave him and so relieved when she tells him she's not going to

I feel like all the actors on Bones are really good at at acting, its just the writing on this show is crazy half the time and a product of daytime tv from the early 00s the rest of the time.

@transfemmesam asked me for Sam whump recs a few days ago, and I've had other requests in the same vein before (I can't imagine why.../s) so I thought I would throw this together, since these authors deserve all of the love and support for their contributions to our li'l fandom corner.

like I mentioned in the title, this is not at all a comprehensive list; I have at least ~200 more fics in my to-read queue that could thematically fit here, but alas, I have stupid shit like a job and a body and a dog to take care of, so. whoe, year old hermit art be upon ye.

as a send off to pride month, y'all get to see all the images I speedran in like two weeks for the sake of the Picrew that I made last year! many of the designs are outdated at this point, and looking at these I can always point out a good handful of mistakes. A bunch of sleepless nights colouring all of these guys after my shifts, and a long list to make sure I didn't have too many characters facing one way or the other. All while intentionally drawing poses so People could put their favorite characters together and have matching Icons with their friends. and also cursing out Xisuma for his bone mage arch cause I HAD ALREDY FINISHED THE LINE ART AND I WASNT REDRAWING HIM AGAIN DAMIT,,, everyone else got their S9 skins from the earlier parts of the season though ') But ultimately this was and still is one of my most favorite projects I ever worked on. My nameless legacy amongst the hermitcraft community that will outlive me. and here's the link before Im asked for it again

Summary: When he gets the phone call, Dean thinks he’s finally cracked. But it doesn’t matter, because his legs are still carrying him to the crow’s nest, taking the stairs two at a time. And when Dean flings the bunker door open, Cas is there.

Yeah both Scully and Mulder suffer their fair share of traumas but the fact that Scully's (the female character) is so heavily focused on her reproductive system is absolutely misogyny, the fact that it's not malicious/intentional doesn't make that not misogyny, it's the nature of the trauma that makes it misogynistic not the amount of it

The villains of the show view women as vessels to be hollowed out for their own nefarious purposes, not the writers-- the distinction is important. And the villains overlooked Scully's capabilities and prowess because of this, relegating her to second place after Mulder and his quest-- not the writers. From the very first episode (written by Chris Carter), Scully was given agency and equal footing with Mulder; and that continued through the series despite the executives and other busybodies trying to make Scully walk behind Mulder or do this or that because of societal expectations still lingering in the 90s.

Misogyny specifically is "hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women or girls. It is a form of sexism that can keep women at a lower social status than men, thus maintaining the social roles of patriarchy"; and one could argue Scully's treatment throughout the series might merit that criticism... except the show and its writers stated over and over how wrong, sick, and twisted the villains were for those actions. Moreover, those same villains inflicted trauma and dehumanizing torment on Mulder as well; and his "manhood" didn't prevent him from being used as a pawn in their game as far back as his childhood. It's messed up all around.

Furthermore, I've come across tons of literature and series featuring similar plotlines that were written by women, for women (even in the fringes of this fandom, fics taking place outside of the mytharc storyline.) Is that misogyny or an exploration of the depravity of that cruel and misogynistic mindset perpetuated by evil, twisted men (and women, lest we forget Diana Fowley)?

The problems begin when the writers felt the crunch in S7, trying to think up a way to keep the show going despite all signs leading to a conclusive ending. Thus the pregnancy arc.

Was Scully's pregnancy and motherhood arc inherently out of character? No, I don't believe so-- but as much as it reduced her to a parrot repeating "my baby" every two seconds instead of mothering little William, it also stripped Mulder of any on-screen connection with his son for the majority of S8 and all of S9. Both were robbed-- not because of misogyny (which would have viewed Scully and her personal problems and struggles as lesser than Mulder's) but because BOTH of their personal problems were less important to the writers than the mytharc (well, a few of the writers, anyway.)

It's clunky, lazy writing, that's all. I don't believe the writers have a misogynistic bone in their body; but I do believe that the storylines they pushed through stretched into absurdity because they were not properly set up, paced, fleshed out, or justified. That, however, does not make them misogynistic or bad people.

Those are my thoughts, anyway~. :))))

So thoughts about desert alien au. If I recall correctly you mentioned that while he likes the warmth of the Nether, he doesn't like the lack of sand or the dangers.

The s9 nether hub as an out of the way corner room filled to the brim with overworld sand. It's easily deep enough to stand in, or say bury yourself in and soak up the heat for hours. When Tango showed Scar, he ended up flat on his back under a large purring alien. That was all it took to make the hours of hauling shulkers of sand in from the Overworld worth it.

See, Tango knows what it's like to be from someplace all your friends find inhospitable. He's sat around a roaring fire in the Overworld and still felt cold. He's seen his friends pant and sweat as they trekked through the Nether just as he's finally starting warm up to something approaching comfortable.

So when he sees Scar shiver on a warm Overworld day, or watches him plow through harvesting terra cotta while other hermits grouse about the heat, he understands. He picks up on the sigh of relief whenever Scar steps into the Nether, then sees his shoulders droop as he looks around at the landscape. When combined with the time he happened upon Scar carefully brushing sand out of Jellie's fur, while grains of it drifted out of his own hair, well Tango can be dense sometimes, but his smarts are not only confined to redstone.

Hence an out of the way corner of the Nether hub he designed has room filled with sand, heated by a conveniently placed mass of magma blocks below a few layers of netherack. It's warm and cozy, and sometimes when the cold of Deep Frost gets to him, Tango will come and chill there himself, though he skips burying himself in sand. But it's a safe spot for his friend to come, when the Overworld gets to be a little to chilly and he needs to bask in heat warm enough to thaw the chill in his bones.

And when Tango's flying through the Hub and hears a contented rumble coming from that direction, he gives a fond smile and vows to make sure every hub has a sand pit for his fellow hot climate hermit.

Back to thinking of Wynncraft…

I like to imagine that the owners have houses a bit everywhere, tough it’s coded to be invisible for anyone without the special access. It’s rare for anyone else to get that access since it requires quite a lot of complicated coding.

However, between s8 and s9 Grian opened it up for all the hermits. Since most didn’t have any other server to go to. Some took that time as a vacation, able to wander around the cities with unlimited money from the owners or explore. Some spent the time trying to master different skills while some just chilled in the houses. Some just came and went as they wanted to, spending time in their private test worlds and such. There was evenings spent helping X find the right server and making plans for the next season.

During the break there was a winter festival which most of the hermits attended to.

Some still have a little trinket with them from the server. Few has taken with a handcrafted weapon which they made with help or that was commissioned

Overall, the time was rather nice and chill

False and Gem took the time to practice fighting with different weapons, they also felt a bit guilty about leaving Stress alone and spent the whole time trying to make it up to her.

Stress enjoyed her friends trying to apologise, but she had forgiven them long before, she mostly spent her time enjoying the cuisine and minigames.

Iskall found himself exploring everything he could for iskallium, and was rather disappointed when Grian told him there wasn't any, he still dragged a bunch of the hermits in to explore with him though. (And if Grian hid a single piece of iskallium in a dungeon for him to find, nobody needs to know.)

Xisuma was so impressed by the custom armour that he took up the craft, this is how he made his bone armour in S9.

Overall, most of the hermits found themselves really enjoying the lovely province of Wynn, and Grian couldn't help but be proud of himself... even if he had to put in overtime fixing what his friends broke...

That's why i want to ask you this : In your opinion, when did Rick / Michonne fell deeply in love with each other ? I think maybe in between season 3 - 4 for Michonne and for Rick during Carl's eye recovery. Of course we know they got a strong connection since the begining.

Hi! Thank you so much. 😊 I LOVE this question cuz I think about when exactly they fell in love often and I always enjoy hearing others takes on when they believe those moments were. (And since it's such a good question I of course had to give an extended response with supporting evidence😅)

Imo, Rick & Michonne both fall deeply in love with each other by the end of Season 4.

Like their attraction and feelings were stirring from S3 forward, but at the end of S4, I think that feeling of “I’m in love with this person" starts becoming even more evident.

For Rick, I say it's that precious moment on the train tracks with Michonne and Carl when his heart knows deep down that he doesn't just like and need her but he deeply loves and has fallen for her.

And Michonne is not far behind as I think she has that same deep-down feeling in the next episode, when she listens to Rick outside the car while Carl sleeps in her lap and the “Cuz I’m Okay Too” scene. I feel like this is when her heart becomes more aware that she deeply loves him and has fallen for him. Their minds just needed time to catch up & allow them to act on what their hearts felt in S4.

To me, it’s all so clear in their looks during these scenes. Because the way she looks at him in that 4x16 scene and how he looks at her on those tracks in 4x15 feels very reminiscent of how they look at each other on that couch in 6x10 when they both know full well they’re in love.

I really feel like the only few reasons it takes R&M so long to act on those S4 feelings is because one; the world kept screaming at them throughout S5/6A and they had to focus so much on just bare-bones survival and recovering from PTSD, two; Michonne needed that convo with Carl and Judith in 6x10 to feel comfortable letting her heart take the wheel and take that next step with Rick. And Rick just needed that confirmation that the feeling was mutual because I think he really respected and valued her role in his and his family’s life and didn’t want to potentially jeopardize that by professing his feelings for her unless he knew it was something she wanted too. (and three; as fione as Rick is, I low-key feel like Rick initially didn’t think he could pull a baddie like Michonne and in his troubled S5B/6A state he thought he’d have to settle elsewhere. ijs. 💁🏽‍♀️😋)

But fortunately, Rick and Michonne both realized how perfect they were for each other and acted on it once they finally had time to heal and breathe a little.

S4 Richonne will always be so special to me and it’s especially because I think it’s the season they fall deeply for each other and slowly but surely become aware of it. Rick and Michonne both really value family and in 4B they saw each other be the exact type of family the other needed. But not just needed, they saw each other be someone they genuinely love and desire.

I’d been thinking about doing mini breakdowns of my perspective on all the different eras of Richonne because I feel each season, from S3 to S9, brings about a new layer & era to their relationship and this question has me even more motivated to try and explore that because every era is just so good. So thank you, anon!
