Why is the Sims community boycotting Curseforge?

I've seen a lot of posts going around calling on Simmers to stop using Curseforge, a modding platform that enables creators to monetize their downloads, with plenty of outrage directed toward modders and CC-makers who are still on the platform. But I've also seen a lot of people who are confused about why there are calls for a boycott.

Curseforge is owned by Overwolf, a company that is donating money to the IDF in support of its ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.

In late October/early November, Overwolf posted a graphic on their social media asking followers to "defend our defenders" by contributing financially to a fundraising drive for the IDF. They were met with backlash and quickly took the graphic down, replacing it with one that used language about raising money for "those affected by the violence in Gaza" (my phrasing may be inexact) but the money is still going to the IDF and not to any agency actually supporting civilians or doing humanitarian work.

You can see the original graphic on this change.org petition, which provides some additional context.

If you are using Curseforge in any way -- by hosting your content there or downloading from it -- you are giving money to a company that is raising funds for an ongoing military campaign against a civilian population.

This is why people are calling for a boycott. If you are a modder or CC maker for the Sims, you should remove all of your content from the website and redirect people to other DL sources. If you are a consumer of mods and CC, you should stop clicking curseforge links and send (polite!) messages to modders and CC makers to urge them to pull their content from the site.

I don't think I really have any really solid headcanons and also canon keeps validating me left and right (FLUFFY DOMESTIC DIAFAM IS REAL). mostly just kind of...impressions and general thoughts, if that makes sense! lately though I've been kind of obsessed with thinking about Lilia's hair, and specifically when/why he ended up cutting it. (l-look, we're bouncing around the timeline and I gotta make decisions about these things when I draw, it's relevant) (I mean I would probably be weirdly fixated on this anyway, but.)

I think I've settled on the idea that he kept it long until he went to NRC, partly because 1) I like drawing The Ponytail, and 2) I think he thought of NRC as a chance to reinvent himself a bit! he gets to go and be a wacky carefree teenager for a few years and have fun! (officially he's there to keep an eye on Son #1, but how much trouble could he get into, really.) so he gave himself a Cool Teen Haircut to go with his fresh new Cool Teen Persona!

also maybe he had some reflection on his hair's troubled past with three kids...

...and had to weigh his vanity versus the fact that he was going off to be around hundreds of kids on a daily basis, and. the choice suddenly seemed obvious.

GHOST is the type to notice your knee bouncing up right away before it even starts rattling the chair that you are sitting on. He grabs a hold of your chin with two gloved fingers making sure you are looking at him. “Settle down, pet.” He glances pointedly at your knee and you cease the fidgeting immediately apologizing in case the noise annoyed him. He scoffs at that, “None of that, jus’ talk t’ me instead of this fidgety crap.” And so you do, relaxing by the minute even though all he offers in response are varying levels of grunts and one word observations.

SOAP is right there with you fidgeting up a storm. It’s a miracle he manages to sit still for 5 minutes before he’s cracking his knuckles and/or neck, humming under his breath or tapping away on the table. You swear his energy transfers and you can’t keep still either, changing positions every few seconds. What gets you out of the hellish cycle of fidgeting is Johnny dragging you on his lap (it really doesn’t matter where you guys are and who sees he is shameless) “Get comfortable, lass. This is the best seat in the house.”

PRICE has a sixth sense for any nervous energy you swear. He might be holding a conversation with Laswell over some beer and while you sit beside him your knee starts moving under the table. Without even glancing your way he rests his big warm hand on your knee moving his thumb over the inside of your thigh to soothe you even if it creates a whole different problem for you in the long run and from how your thighs flex to ease the sudden need he knows what he’s doing. When Kate excuses herself to go to the bathroom he finally looks at you feeling the glare you throw his way. “Now now, don’t be catty with me, love. Behave and we’ll do something about this later.”

GAZ is probably the only one actually prepared with some toys for fidgeting. He always carries at least one on him wherever he goes just in case you might need it. When he sees you drumming your fingers on your thigh he pushes a stress ball into one of your hands and holds the other bringing it up to his lips with a soft smile. "I'm right here yeah?" It's a simple sentence really but it makes the anxiety go away all the same.

so on the subject of the "Crowley is secretly Revaan/Laverne/Levin/please Twst give us his name" theory, I think my feelings are best summed up as "I don't really buy it, but it's funny". like, in all seriousness, I'm not opposed to it; I have enjoyed the writing in Twst so far and I'm willing to trust that whatever happens will, you know, make sense and not be terrible. but I'm just not really convinced by the current evidence! maybe that'll change once we learn more, we'll see!

with that said, may I propose a few alternate theories about the possible Crowley/Revaan connection:
