finished the mark of athena with the 10yo i babysit today, and after some reflection, she told me that, you know, the price for leo opening the fortune cookie probably was percy and annabeth.. because by cracking open the cookie, he saved hazel and frank--two demigods for two demigods. but (and she got excited here) he was probably the reason daedalus's laptop was lost too! because the fortune cookie allowed him to save the archimedes sphere!

she and her sister and i just sat there agape. because the thing is, leo actually did compare the two machines to each other in the last chapter, saying the archimedes sphere was better. and he did come out of that predicament under the pantheon with more than just his friends.

actually, now that i think about it. they also came out with nico's sword.. and you know what else was lost to tartarus? annabeth's dagger.

friends for friends, a weapon for a weapon, and one piece of valuable machinary for another... that cookie sure did a lot of damage
