Thoughts on a Hatchetfield/Fantasy High crossover
So, I know the odds are good that I'm sending this into a very niche void, but I also know that these fandoms overlap, so... yeah. Basically, this is a world where the Bad Kids (and I guess pretty much every character in the world of Spyre, but the Bad Kids are who we're focusing on) are seemingly normal humans living in Hatchetfield, with all the weirdness and danger it entails.
Let's get into it.
Fabian: He's a rich kid living in Pinebrook, the star quarterback of the Nighthawks, and is one of the most popular kids in school due to being rich, good at sports, and surprisingly nice---and he's dating Ragh, though that's something that's a bit on the down-low due to them worrying they'll get kicked off the team and Ragh not being quite ready to come out. Honestly, Fabian really shouldn't be tied up into the spookiness, if you take him at face value... except for the fact that both of his parents are very much tied into it. Haleriel's family has been in Hatchetfield since the beginning, and while they're not tied with the Church of the Starry Children or the Hatchetmen, they do have some serious occult connections. And Bill... well, as far as everyone knows, he's an Irish fencer who got into the big leagues, retired, and took up pirate LARPing in his spare time. All of that is true, except for the fact that he is, in fact, an actual seventeenth-century pirate who got on Tinky's bad side and wound up in 2000s Hatchetfield. Fabian doesn't know about this yet, but he will.
Gorgug: The result of a secret relationship between two Abstinence Camp junior counselors, Gorgug was originally raised in secret in Witchwood Forest until he was three, when he was found and promptly put up for adoption. By then, he was already unusually large, strong, and angry for his age, but he still found a loving home with the proprietors of Thistlespring Mechanics. Gorgug thankfully never got to the monstrous level of Lil' Gerry, and he can pass for a normal kid if you ignore his height... however, he has been homeschooled for a good portion of his life due to constantly having manic outbursts that took years to learn how to keep under control. When he finally goes to Hatchetfield High, Fabian and Ragh take him under their wing---if only because they took one look at him and realized that he'd be perfect for the Nighthawks---and Gorgug definitely begins to shine due to having friends. Still, though... you can never really get rid of how Witchwood Forest changes you.
Riz: Now, he is very much aware of all the crazy, scary, and inexplicable things that go around in Hatchetfield, to the point of becoming a paranormal investigator---YouTube channel and all. His mom isn't really sure what to make of this, but she's a cop, she's busy, and it mostly keeps Riz out of trouble. As far as he knows, his dad worked for the military, and he assumes that he died in combat (in reality, though, Pok was a PIEP agent who got killed by Blinky). Riz has a part of his paranormal investigator business that's open to him taking on cases for others, but people don't tend to take him up on the offer, and he's usually investigating strange happenings by himself. That is, until...
Fig: Unlike in canon, Fig has always known that Gilear was her stepdad, not her real dad, but she still considers him her dad---mostly because that for a good deal of her life, she grew up thinking that her real dad was a deadbeat who left her. After Gilear and Sandra Lynn get divorced, however, Fig decides to finally start looking into her biological dad... and she discovers that he didn't skip town as she initially believed, but he went missing shortly before she was born. The case went cold, and all that's known is that he was attempting to stop the Honey Festival---specifically, the pageant---before he disappeared. Fig, who's recently developed an interest in the occult, realizes that there's something sinister going on there, and she hires Riz to help her find out the truth. (Vague spoilers: Gorthalax---or, well, Gordon T. Ax---is alive, but he's been trapped by Nibbly as punishment for successfully interfering and saving the Honey Queen)
Kristen: She's essentially the Grace Chastity of this universe, just without the crazy---church girl, teacher's pet, yet actually a nice person who doesn't really realize just how messed up her parents' beliefs are. Though she doesn't know the details about the Black & White, her parents are part of a group that are descended from the original Hatchetmen, and they've taught her that anybody who has The Gift is inherently evil. Of course, Kristen has always had the power to magically heal others, and she's kept this hidden from her parents her whole life---which becomes harder as her powers start getting stronger. And then she starts having a sexuality crisis and a crisis of faith, triggered when she befriends the niece of Hatchetfield High's new guidance counselor. So, yeah, Kristen's not having a good time.
Adaine: Her family recently moved to Hatchetfield from London, supposedly because her dad's job changed. In reality, her parents are devout followers of Wiggly and the other LiB, and they know that Hatchetfield is the focal point of their power (and no, Alewyn doesn't know about this, but she does know more about the spooky stuff than she's letting on). For her part, Adaine has psychic powers similar to Hannah, right down to having Webby as an imaginary friend, but she keeps this secret from her parents... mostly due to the time when she was little and told them about Webby, and the reaction was pretty negative. On top of her powers, she's also struggling with her anxiety disorder, her gifted kid complex, and the general stress of going to a new school in a new country... so, it helps when she gets adopted by Kristen and Fig at the same time, and Webby immediately takes a liking to them both. Through Fig, she meets Riz, and then she meets Fabian at one of her parents' awful functions, and he introduces her and everyone else to Gorgug... and the Bad Kids can begin.
I've got a lot more ideas about this---mostly involving Ayda, Arthur Aguefort, the O'Shaughnesseys, and some fleeting concepts about The Seven---but that's for another post, so... yeah.

Webby’s Relationship With Her Brothers Theory:
Throughout the Hatchetfield series Webby is seen to strongly oppose her brothers, and they oppose her, but I had a slight theory that’s all based on the Lords in Black’s view of human life as a game.
The theory is, basically, that Webby doesn’t seriously dislike her brothers. They are all eldritch beings playing an elaborate game with the universe - Webby is simply pestering her older brothers and ruining their games like any younger sibling would.
Webby is seen killing Willabella; she is clearly morally grey, so is it really so far fetched to assume that she’s just playing a game with her siblings, a big game of pretend where she pretends to be the ‘hero’ fighting them?
Of course she has to make it all seem real to Hannah so she has a willing toy to help her carry out her will, but she also does things that could be seen as in aid of her brothers when the mood strikes her (giving Hannah cryptic clues in Black Friday that ultimately do not save the day, spinning webs for them to enact their sick fantasies on different timelines, even if she has supposedly stopped doing this).
Blinky isn’t fully evil, he only does what is entertaining for him to watch, so it stands to reason that Webby isn’t fully good, she even learnt at her brothers’ sides, honing her powers with them. Just look at her reason for killing Willabella:
“You hurt my friend, I’m going to destroy you now”.
That’s a very personal, almost petulant reason, like she’s saying:
“You broke my favourite toy, that’s not fair!”
Anyway, that’s just a theory I had :).

random ducktales headcanons in whatever order I think of them
Louie likes math. He acts like he doesn’t because he thinks it’s dumb and nerdy, but he likes math.
In a human AU, Huey would wear cargo pants, track pants, or jeans on occasions. Dewey is a jeans every day type-of-guy, he doesn’t own any pants besides jeans. Louie always wears sweatpants or track pants.
Researching Scrooge really got Webby into American history. She loves learning about Scrooge when he was in America. Some of her favorite periods to learn about; The Gold Rush, the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression, primarily the early Gilded Age.
As Dewey gets older, he gets a passion for writing. His overactive imagination is a tool for this. He also uses inspiration from his childhood fantasies and incorporates them into his stories. For example, he makes references only he would get about Dewey High in his writing. He does primarily action/adventure and realistic fiction.
Louie gets easily embarrassed about his hobbies. He starts by doing them nonchalantly, but when he realizes people are noticing, he starts doing them in secret.
Huey does not get art, primarily poetry, plays, or anything written. It just goes right over his head. He hates English class and Shakespeare.
When Lena likes something, she draws it a lot. Whether it be her magic, people, friendship bracelets, or even just a little trinket she found, she’ll draw it. These drawings go into her most beloved sketchbooks. But she also has the Sketchbook of No Return, in which she draws things she hates as a way of getting her emotions out. Sometimes she even blacks out the page after drawing it.
Violet introduces Webby to Ancient Civilizations. They study early history together, from Mesopotamia to India to Greece.
Huey and Violet get competitive when they do Junior Woodchuck things, but they get along really well otherwise. They both have passions for science and nature.
Boyd and Huey are best friends, and hang out all the time. Despite being a robot, like all Gearloose’s inventions Boyd feels human emotions. Huey finds this extremely fascinating. Louie likes to tease Huey about being friends with a robot, but Louie doesn’t really have many friends himself so he can’t say much.
Gosalyn feels awkward at the huge sleepovers the Duck and Vanderquack family are always hosting. Her only friend at them is Dewey, while everyone else knows each other. Even Boyd knows Lena and Violet. Plus, Gosalyn doesn’t even know the rest of the Duck boys. But, eventually she warms up to everyone after being super competitive in games and sort of cold as a defense mechanism.
Lena and Violet dye their hair together sometimes.
Panchito and José eventually become known as Uncle Panchito and Uncle José.
Huey, being terrified of Dewey’s carelessness, finds Louie to be his Comfort Sibling™
Louie is kind-of into knitting???
Fethry, Gladstone, Donald, and Della always came to Scrooges for the Holidays. Every Holiday. Winter and Spring break too. They all got pretty close. Plus, adventuring was not Donald and Della exclusive.
Donald is the only one who can tell the triplets apart when they do their hair the same way and wear the same clothes.
One time Louie stole Webby's skirt because he wanted to know what it was like to wear one. He's also done this with Scrooge's clothes.
Dewey cannot cook for the life of him, but Huey is a master chef. Huey also makes the best soup-and-salad combos. Louie is in the middle ground, but for some reason finds baking much easier.
One time Della, Donald, Fethry and Gladstone played War together, but on teams. Donald and Gladstone wanted to see whose luck would outweigh the others, so they teamed up. The game was cut short because the table got knocked over and the cards fell through the floorboards. They looked for the cards but couldn’t find them.
May loves drawing and June loves reading, and they like to write books together. Daisy gives May fashion tips for her characters, and reads the books June recommends.
Webby likes to photobomb Dewey's selfies.
Gosalyn and Louie scam people together.
Webby and Lena have a playlist of both their favorite songs. They sing to all of them at their one-on-one sleepovers.
Lena and Violet both like heavy metal.
Gosalyn was extremely girly as a child.
Lena reminds Scrooge of Donald when he was younger.
Drake adopted Gosalyn (obviously).
Lena and Huey lowkey have beef.
Dewey was actually laid first.
One time Dewey accidentally called Storkules his Uncle Storkules. The man was never happier.
Panchito became a sky pirate once but Don Karnage booted him.
Boyd really likes listening to Huey talk about his passions, which is good since Huey goes on and on about them. Donald thinks it's so sweet that Huey has such a good friend. Boyd is Donald's favorite of all of the boys' friends.
Louie's khopesh is his favorite treasure ever.
Della was Donald's best man at his and Daisy's wedding. It didn't matter that she wasn't a man.
Launchpad and Drake nerd out together for at least three hours a week.
Drake cannot handle affection. He gets all awkward when someone tells him they love him or when someone hugs him.
When Louie isn't around, Boyd is the number two comfort buddy for Huey.
Violet and Boyd get along really well, and Huey gets jealous of Violet. But they primarily hang out in JW meetings so it isn't crazy.

So, how do you think Lena's aging works? On one hand, Frank Angones said on his blog that Lena's only about a year older than Webby (and there's no way Webby is 14) but Shadow War claims Lena was created 15 years before that episode. My take is that Lena was stuck physically being 12-13 (which could work as being a year older than Webby in a physical sense if you see Webby as 11 when the show began) and only began aging naturally when brought back to life in Friendship Hates Magic. Your take?
This is an interesting philosophical question when it comes to characters like these in sci fi and fantasy in general. On the one hand we have Lena who was made fully formed at a specific age but other than a few choice memories given to her from Magica so Lena can function convincingly as a person, is she really the age she looks or does she become that age after living that long? We know that she wondered around and had experiences (one of which being her going to and taking a punk rock band leader’s shirt which she’s wearing) so are these new experiences unique to her as her own person separate from the memories implanted in her mind at creation or just something to help sell her story to others? It could be possible that she remained forever young due to Magica’s spell and that now that Lena has her own magic and is severed from Magica that Lena could start to age naturally if she hasn’t already done so by reaching past the age she was created at (I.e. if she’s 15 biological but has only lived for 13 years then she’d start aging in 2 more years as an example). Lena being made 15 years ago would be a little bit before Beakley found and adopted Webby so in a technical sense if we go off of learned experiences then they’re not far behind in terms of an age gap, while Lena had a head start in that she didn’t have to go from being a baby to toddler to kid to tween to teen, she still had to learn about the world that wasn’t from what her creator already gave her knowledge of. She and Webby are kind of a mutation of the “Born Yesterday” trope but just barely, whereas Lena has lived and knows things and Webby knows things but hasn’t lived, Lena has been so strangled by Magica that she doesn’t know what real friendship is like meanwhile Webby was so sheltered that she didn’t know what the outside world was like and was super friendly to others as a way to learn more about this world she’d been missing.
Time displacement characters and stories are always fascinating to explore and it’s very likely not even considered by the writer unless it’s a major point to said character.

Kingdom Hearts - Christmas Hearts
A Kingdom Hearts Christmas one-shot that I posted on FFN and AO3 two years ago. I figure 'tis the season to share it here.
Summary: The Guardians of Light celebrate Christmas at the Land of Departure.  They open presents, take pictures, tell stories, have a magical airstepping snowball fight, and enjoy being together on the most magical day of the year.
————————————————
Sunlight shone through the stained glass windows into the castle on the Land of Departure, reflecting off of the ornaments and tinsel that decorated a magnificent pine tree that was erected in the audience chamber.  Several gift-wrapped boxes sat under the tree, enough for a large group of people.  Fourteen stockings were hooked onto the railing on one side of the chamber, each colored and embroidered to indicate whose it was.  There were also two smaller stockings for Jiminy Cricket and Chirithy.  A large stellated crystal of Orichalcum was mounted on top of the tree as the star.
The castle’s clock tower bell rang, echoing throughout the castle to announce the morning.  Smaller bells chimed in tune with classic carols.  Each of the castle’s occupants woke up, some with the aid of Chirithy, who bounced on top of the late sleepers until they were finally up.  Ventus was the first one down to the chamber, still the physically-youngest and most evidently childish-at-heart.  He was joined by: Sora and Kairi; Mickey, Donald, and Goofy, with Jiminy tagging along in Mickey’s pocket; Aqua and Terra; Roxas and Xion; Riku and Naminé; and Lea and Isa.
“Morning, guys,” Lea said, yawning.  “Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas!” everyone replied.
“Jeez, Ven.  You think your Chirithy could bounce any harder?” Lea complained.  “It felt like he was this close to breaking my ribs.”
Chirithy appeared in Ventus’ arms in a puff of smoke.  “If you’d rather skip opening presents, then I won’t bother waking you up next time,” he remarked.  Ventus laughed while Isa chuckled.
“Well, since we’re all down here, why don’t we see what Santa put in our stockings?” Aqua suggested.
Everyone scrambled to their stockings and took out the gifts that were stuffed inside.  They all had candy and (with the exception of Goofy and Jiminy) chocolate; there was a Santa hat and a jingle bell sash for everyone; the Keyblade wielders all got a new Keychain that would give their Keyblades a holiday-themed form; everyone had a chibi plush doll that looked like them; Jiminy’s stocking had a brand new umbrella, while Chirithy’s included a festive cape and Lux pouch.  They looked up and said “Thanks, Santa,” sure that the jolly man in red could hear them.
Next, Aqua passed presents around to everyone.  Sora’s gift from Riku was a digital watch that would sync up to the time zones of each world.  Sora and Kairi traded gifts, Sora giving Kairi a Crystal Regalia + bracelet and Kairi giving Sora a Cosmic Belt.  Sora gifted Donald a new hockey stick and Goofy a new tackle box.  Mickey gave Riku a new jacket.  Terra gifted Ventus a Nintendo Switch.  Roxas gave each of his friends a Struggle Bat and accompanying gear.  Naminé gave everyone a scrapbook filled with her drawings of each of them.  Kairi gave Naminé a new set of colored pencils; Riku gave her a new satchel for her drawing tablet and utensils; Sora gave her a new expansion pack for her tabletop RPG (Tidus had introduced it to her at school, and she turned out to be a surprisingly good DM).  Lea gave Isa a tea set.  Isa gave Xion a fantasy romance novel.  Mickey gave Jiminy a new journal while Sora gave him a new scrapbook.  The Keyblade wielders as well as Donald received a book on magic spells and lore from Merlin.  Every human-sized person received a GummiPad from Ienzo.  Donald received a Junior Woodchucks craft from his nephews and a first aid kit from Webby Vanderquack, the latter of which made Sora and Goofy laugh out loud.  Leon sent them all Christmas sweaters.  Sora found a gift from Ariel that contained a music box.
They sorted their gifts and disposed of the wrapping paper, then put on their sweaters, sashes, and Santa hats (and Chirithy’s Christmas cape and pouch).  Sora held his Gummiphone on a selfie stick and took a group photo in front of the Christmas tree, then they all took separate pictures.
“You met Santa?” Ventus asked, amazed, as the group sat around the dining room table eating their breakfast of omelettes, French Toast, and home fries.
“Yeah.  We first went there when I was fifteen,” Sora recounted.  “First we’d gone to Halloween Town, then saw Jack Skellington preparing for Christmas instead of Halloween.  He then led us to Christmas Town to meet Santa.”
“Sora got scolded,” Donald teased.
“Really?  I would have thought you would have a permanent spot on the Nice List,” Terra remarked.
Sora chuckled awkwardly.  “Well, he brought up the one time I told everyone that I didn’t believe in Santa Claus,” he admitted sheepishly.
“WHAT?!” Ventus and Xion blurted.  Aqua gasped, similarly shocked.
“It was Riku’s fault in the first place,” Sora grumbled.  Riku and Kairi laughed.
“So there’s a Halloween Town and a Christmas Town?  I think I would like to visit those places someday,” Aqua said.
“Maybe we’ll take you to visit next year,” Goofy suggested.
“Great idea,” Roxas said.
“I don’t suppose you had Christmas when you were in the Organization,” Riku remarked.
“Well, we got a day off once a year,” Isa explained.  “That was on the twenty-fifth of December, aligned with Twilight Town’s calendar.  I addressed this fact when I noticed it, and Xemnas permitted a single day with no mission.  I suppose that his intention of giving us a break on Christmas Day was to remind us of what we lacked in order to give us further encouragement to complete Kingdom Hearts.”
Everyone fell silent as they processed that statement, reflecting on the true purpose of the Organization that Xemnas/Xehanort had intended.  Donald crossed his arms and sank back into his chair.  “Humbug,” he muttered.
“You could say that again,” Roxas agreed.
They found more cheerful topics to discuss for the rest of breakfast and for much of the morning, including: how Terra, Ventus and Aqua celebrated Christmas before the Mark of Mastery exam (the tactful way in which Riku described the turning point); how Christmas was celebrated on Destiny Islands, in Daybreak Town (for Ventus and Chirithy to answer), and (mostly for the benefit of Kairi and her still-hazy memories) in Radiant Garden; and what everyone’s favorite Christmas songs were.
“Hey, guys!” Lea called, getting everyone’s attention.  He pointed out the window.  “You see all this snow outside?  I’d say it looks perfect for a snowball fight.”
Sora, Riku and Roxas grinned.  “You’re on!” Sora said.  They all put on coats, gloves, and boots and ran outside.  There was four inches of snow on the ground, a shining white blanket that covered the mountain islands.  Snow also covered the roof and window sills of the castle.  As soon as he was outside, Sora did a backflip and pushed himself off of the wall, launching himself across the forecourt.  He packed together a snowball on landing and spun around to throw it at Riku, who was making a snowball of his own to retaliate.
Everyone spread out, going all in on the attack.  They each sometimes focused on one adversary in particular, and other times briefly grouped up to gang up on someone.  They all ran around to dodge snowballs and attack from different angles.  Sora, Riku, Roxas, Aqua, and Ventus leapt through the air and ran up and down the side of the castle to take the snowball fight to the skies, leaving the others to watch from the ground and laugh as their friends glided and airstepped all over the place and snowballs arced through the air (although Donald regretted this when a stray(?) snowball dropped down and hit him square in the face).  Everyone on the ground got back into the action when Naminé, who up to that point had simply sat on the steps in front of the door and watched, threw a snowball at Terra from behind.
When they were all tired from the snowball fight, they stumbled back inside, laughing, and took off their outdoor clothing.  As they passed through the foyer, Kairi caught Sora by the hand and stopped him, then pointed up to show him that they were standing under the mistletoe.  They laughed and then kissed.  “Merry Christmas,” they said to each other.  After seeing this, the other couples decided to follow their example, and Riku and Naminé, Roxas and Xion, Aqua and Terra, and Lea and Isa shared their own kisses under the mistletoe.
The gang was truly glad to be together on the day that was all about sharing the light in their hearts.  It truly was the most wonderful time of the year.

( PROMPT ) — quiet, lick, ink
word count; 395 warnings; the smallest hint, allusion to, spicy webby site with previous prompts
Quincey pressed quill to paper and watched the ink spread, and spread, following the flow of his wrist, and knew the patterns meant something because he had been picturing them in his mind's eye for days, waiting for this very moment, but he was tired. The journey had been long, and lonely. His thighs ached. His eyes waned. But Quincey could not sleep, not just yet, else he'd curl into the sheets, into his god, and forget all else. Or he would wish for all else to cease existence, that he had no grimoire to fill and no people to fear. Quincey would lose himself in the fantasy of birdsong and loving arms and demand the world wait another day. So he wrote. Drew his complex symbols, immortalised forbidden power, and lingered briefly on the moonlight-soft figure in their bed.
Ink soaked into the pads of his fingers and smudged against the side of his hand. Stained him black and decay and all things his god wasn't. Shrike would stay pure-white innocent, and Quincey would stain further, and it was right.
"Quin," Shrike breathed into his ear. "You are being maudlin."
"And you are sneaking around again."
The sheets had pooled to the ground, unnoticed, and Shrike was kneeling at Quincey's back. Dirt would smudge them both before the bed was filled. Their hands sought out Quincey's waist, grip tight.
"What else is a god to do, when their love returns home in the dead of night and spurns their side in favour of a book?"
"They are patient, because their love is covered in ink and has not bathed for days."
Shrike buried their nose into Quincey's neck, where his pulse roared, "You have smelt worse."
Every nerve, raw and aching, soothed as Quincey laughed. This honesty, he adored it. Their touch, he could drown in it. And he did, relaxing until he was loose in Shrike's hold and his spine curved into their contours. He turned and ghosted his lips across the sharp jut of his god's cheekbone, catching the smooth press of soft strands along the way.
"I have missed you," Quincey said.
"And I am still missing you. Come to bed."
"But my hands--"
Shrike took Quincey's wrist in their hold, tugged, dipped their head, and Quincey's breath stuttered, eyes fluttered, at the wet silk of their tongue.
"Can be cleaned."

Marcy's Journal: A Guide to Amphibia Full Review: The Gay Novel Masterpiece of Our Times
Tumblr media
Hello all you happy frogs, newts, and toads! We're going back to Amphibia, because what's more fitting than visting some old friends over the holidays?
Tumblr media
Well okay but this is a close second. As you can tell by the title i'm taking a look at the recently released Marcy's Journal: A Guide To Amphibia: A Rope of Sand. Marcy's Journal continues disney's on and off track record of making real life versions of books seen in their series, as seen with the stellar Journal 3 for Gravity Falls and Big Book Of Spells for Star Vs, both of which i'd be up for looking at some day and proudly own. These book use diary entries to help expand the canon, while also accurately representing the parts of the books we saw on screen. Their a grand slam multidemographically too: My niece who loves Gravity Falls has often borrowed my copy of Journal 3 simply because she loves pouring through it that much. And who wouldn't? To a nerd like me it's the best of both worlds as it's both a real piece of the show's universe.. but also has a practicality buying a prop version of said thing just doesn't have. It also helps a lot that both Journal 3 and Marcy's Journal came out AFTER their series ended, giving us one last taste of the show on the way out. It's why i'm disappointed Ducktales never got one as while the Art of Book is truly excellent, I reviewed that last month, it doesn't really expand the world or anything we didn't see. It'd be nice to get characters perspectives on things, especially since Webby and Huey BOTH had diary or diary like objects respectively.
Still we were lucky enough to get this wonderful book, as was I. See I intended to wait after the holidays when I had more money and while I got some on my 31st birthday last Friday, I didn't expect to find it when I took a jaunt to Barnes and Noble. I hoped maybe but given my attempts to find The Art of Ducktales in ANY store before giving up and using amazon as usual were entirely fruitless, I didn't have high hopes. It doesn't help mine doesn't update books often.. so it was a pleasant surprise to find a copy and I quickly snapped it up and poured through it a bit, instantly charmed by it. The book was worth the money too as it's a wonderful, well thought out bit of canon that helps expand on things, deepen marcy and anne's characters, and fills in some of the gaps we as a fandom were most vocal about. Seriously it's clear Matt Braly and co when writing this listened to us about what we missed and wove it into the story. Most questions our characters could answer they do in some way shape or form.
So as a result this review is going to have MASSIVE SPOILERS for the book as it would in any of my episode reviews. So come with me under the cut if you've either read it or can't afford it and thus want those juicy deets, as I explore one of the greatest, gayest, and some other g word tie in books i've read.
For Scale
The Books presentation is gorgeous. While I got the paperback version because i'ts what they had, so it's not likely 1:1 like the other re-creations Disney has done, I appricate both having a cheaper option, and that even with that it still looks and feels like a journal: it's got the size, the more yellowy pages and some marking on it. It seems like the kind of journal Marcy would pick out because it looks kinda fantasy ish.
The inside though is where it really shines: besides the page every entry has in addition to the carefully crafted words, painstaking and fun drawings of Marcy's. The book deftly switches between two styles for her portions: Smaller more cartoony drawings to help emphasizes full events due to the journals size, and lavish DND style fantasy drawings for her close up, neither fully matching the shows style, but still remaining just enough in it. We also get a nice running gag of Marcy drawing someone in a picture for Scale, using herself, Sprig and Polly. Another nice detail is when the Book shifts to Anne for the final third (more on that later), the art style changes, going completely to smaller more cartoony drawings, but in a completely different style. It's a small change, but it helps sell that these are anne's chapters. Her penmanship is also slightly different, and where Marcy uses red pen for underlines, Anne uses blue. It's a very small touch but it helps the book feel that much more real by giving it's two very different authors different yet similar styles.
So now we've got how it looks and feels out of the way, we can get into the meat of the book. The book is easily chunked up into four sections: The first third or so of the book detailing what happened to Marcy from waking up in Newtopia and falling down 200 flights of stairs to reuniting with Anne. Literally, there's a page of her going off to rescue the Plantars unaware Anne's there before the next page is her gushing over Anne for several paragraphs. The second deals with what we saw in Season 2 from Marcy's perspective, as well as fleshing out the bits of her story we DIDN'T see as clearly: We find out just what she was up to with Frobo for an episode, as well as exactly what offer Andrias made between "Day at the Aquarium" and when we see her next. The final main part of the story has Anne takeover post True Colors. It's a clever way to both have content related to season 3 and makes sense since that's the season that emphasized marcy's journal at all and parts of her passages actually do bring up the stuff Anne used for Clues. There's then two brief Epilogues: one covering the weeks after the girls return home up till Marcy leaves, and another 10 years later covering the events of the epilouge.. and a little something extra.
Tumblr media
So with that in mind let's begin with…
Part 1: Captain Marcy and her Fearless Night Guard
So part one opens exactly with what we saw in the Theme Song Takeover, and a nice touch is ALL the thigns seen in that show up here.. and naturally that includes her memetic fall down a flight of stairs.. or rather 200 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS
Tumblr media
We then get her recovery at the hosptial, as she realizes these are newts (after comparing them to some salamander aliens. Apparently Newts are senstive about being called salamnders. Who knew?), and gets adjusted to the world and her Iseki adventure. Seriously she calls it that. And in a few pages i'm reminded why I love this character: She's nerdy, awkward, and thus.. really relatable to myself. I too spout off about stuff only a few people care about for hours on end. It's how I got this as a career. She's a well defined character.
We see her meet olivia, and go into a LOT of detail on her, and Andrias, evne climbing into his robe pocket as you'd expect, and the two becoming buddies… and the audience wincing knowing, even if Marcy ultimately forgives him on some level.. he's going to cause this poor child a LOT of pain. A LOT.
We also get a rather painful detail.. any time Marcy gets close to talking outright about what LEAD her to amphibia in the first place.. she backtracks. She scribbles anything she writes about it out to the point I can't read it and is clearly panicking about the implications of what she's done and the pain she feels. It both hurt a lot.. and was somehow nice to see.
Tumblr media
Hear me out: One complaint I saw crop up occasionally after True Colors was people wondering if Marcy could be forgiven after what she did. I did because A) SHE'S ONLY 13. and B) it was clear she had a lot of guilt: She's HORRIFIED when Andrias starts to outline it, not because she's been caught.. but because this is the worst thing she's done and someone she loved as the healthy father figure she never had and trusted was just outing it, taking everything he hadn't already from her. She tries backtracking and justifying.. but it's clear she's trying to talk HERSELF into it being okay as much as she's trying to talk Anne into it. At the sheer idea of loosing the people she loves most has broken her.
The book backs this up…
Tumblr media
As i'ts clear from the getgo she feels massive guilt, but as we saw in the series tends to bottle that shit up instead of actually dealing with it. She's trying to just enjoy the adventure and not think abotu what she's done and the pressure just builds and builds for some time until eventually, it explodes during the game of Flipwart. After Marcy beat Andrias.. she poured her heart out to the guy, admitting what she did and why: See turns out Marcy's dad's only actions in the series, dumping a job transfer away from her friends without telling her and then getting mad when a 13 year old is understandably upset he didn't feel it important to talk about ANY of this with her prior to dropping this bombshell nad never considered her a factor.. was exactly who he was. Yeah, while he wasn't phsyically abusive or gaslighty, Mr. Wu was still a shitty dad who was overly strict on his daughter, pushed her way too hard from what we could tell, and it was clear the move was simply the last straw. We still don't learn MUCH about the guy though we do get to see him, Marcy's mom and sasha's parents thanks to some photos Anne puts in there later, but it puts a lot of Marcy's actions into context: She tried so hard to be good at school, to keep going, so long buckling under his pressure.. that she broke once he pushed too far and expected her to give up the only things besides her various fixations that made her happy.
It also makes Andrias' manipulations.. that much more horrible and why she didn't see all the red flags that much more obvious: He was the dad she always wanted, a kind jovial man who loved her quirks, gladly endulged in her intrests, didn't push her too hard, and actually listened. It also explains his own care for her despite his manipulations: He saw in himself someone pushed by an abusive (if not nearly to his dad's extent but to be fair his dad is a multiversal conquerer and right prick so fair enough) parent to be everything THEY want and not what the child actually wants. It's no wonder he kept trying to protect her from the core: he didn't want to shuffle her from one abuser to another despite ending up as one himself.
And yeah.. Marcy's dad is abusive. He does seem to change after everything , realizing what he was doing, but putting that much pressure on her, not remotely carring what she wanted, being overlys trict.. it's still not good parenting. Not being evil fantasy overlord bad dosen't mean you aren't a prick.. it just means you have a chance to correct it before it's too late.
Andrias encourages her to not tell them, to wait, that it'll hurt them and blah blah blah self serving nonsense.
We also get some of the infastructure stuff Marcy talked about in New Wartwood, and her bonding with Olvia who clearly worries about Mar Mar, though not as much as I would've liked given how much Olivia clearly cares for the girl on screen.
What we do get thoguh is a grand, epic adventure that explains where Marcy's cool new duds came from. Soon after arriving she sees The Night Guard, an elite squad dedicated to the city's defense, essentially why she responded to stuff like the ants. Naturally as would be most people's first repsonse to seeing a squad like that, she wants to join. I mean their no Ank-Morphok City Watch but they'll do in a pinch.
So after whipping up an explosive with some herbs she found, as she do, she impresses their head Albert who sends her on a major task: Get a golden egg from a golden crab. And look I loved this missoin already because it's a giant crabby boy. I love giant crabs. It's also the second time this month i've gottne to talk about them
Tumblr media
So i'm eating well. Marcy of course solves it, studying i'ts patterns for days and figuring out a very clever trap for it, digging under it with a trench and using the various volcanic vents, which she'd figured out the timing for as it made a good clock, and knocked the fucker out and took the egg.
What makes this one of my faviorite moments in the book though, is that this was a training setup similar to the Kobiashi Maru in star trek only with more murder crabs, which makes it instantly better. She wasn't SUPPOSED to win, it was, much like that scenario , designed to teach recruits how to deal with failure. And just like James T. Kirk, she flipped the bitch.
Naturally this and the giant pile of money the egg brings in means Marcy gets fastracked from simply JOINING the Guard, to being a CAPTAIN and leading her own squad. And they are a fun bunch, original characters not hinted at in the series proper but still every bit as fun as the characters we got to know and love. Her squad consists of Javi, an egotistical too cool for school swordsman, Kettle, my favorite, a short newt with a hair trigger temper and tons of arrows and Femur, a senstive giant with a degree in classical muisc. And I guarantee this happened at least once
youtube
Team buildling takes some time, as the team was all brougt together by by Captain Ernst a totally swell guy who recently died and who i'm positive isn't evil. It's never hard when some new guy has to come and run a team someone else brought together, trained and made into a fighting force. It's why when Cyclops left the x-men he handed them off to Storm, who had been on the team for years at that point , knew them well and had the potential instead of Gary that guy down the street from the mansion who keeps offering to buy the New Mutants Beer.
Thankfully Marcy is more a Storm than a Gary. Granted she tries a very marcy move in trying to get the team to function via a rousing game of DND… also it's wild to realize that this universe has two diffrent versions of dnd as it also has Dungeons, Dungeons and More Dungeons.. though also plausable given just HOW many rpgs are out there.
This dosen't quite work, which makes sense. No what brings the party together is what brings most teams together: a giant ass fight forcing them to get their shit together: sometimes it's an island that walks like a man, sometimes it's a blue david tennant dragon, sometimes it's tryiing to get Gary home after he passes out on your lawn. For Team Marcy, it's a giant cobra, a bit i'd FORGOT was in the takeover. Using their teamwork and with Marcy playing on their various personality traits they beat the bitch, and now accept Marcy as one of them.
The main plot kicks in though with the next case, as a cult known as the order of the olms has been burning books
Tumblr media
Yeah as someone who loves books and things being avaliable i'm with marcy in finding this heartbreaking and wanting her to catch the bitch. Having the outfitter guy from season 3 give them some galoshes, Team Marcy treks into the sewers. Sadly there aren't any teenage mutant ninja turtles or even regular presumably massive fire breathing ones, but we do meet my favorite addition from this book: Hamby, a weird newt who dresses up like the hamburglar and talks like Gollumn. Despite all appearance he isn't the one who did it and Marcy confirms it herself, realizing from his apperance and general..vibe that this sewer man isn't their guy and in exchange for a friend, Marcy's tamabuddy, he gladly gives them some spare robes and the time of their next meeting
From that Marcy learns about their leader gold mask, who has a sweet and horrifying ornate gold snake mask and the cult's next target, planning a massive intercept. We also get a sweet moment as we find out where Marcy got her sick crossbow: her team gifted it to her as thanks, formally and warmly welcoming her as their leader.
The sting.. goes pearshaped as while they manage to intercept the cult, Snakemask reveals himself.. to be ernst!
Tumblr media
Yeah not a huge suprise. I had it spoiled for me via my thumbing around the book, but even then it's kinda obvious this is where it will go. Thankfully the twist itself isn't what's important.. it's how it impacts the character. Marcy was two steps from telling Anne and Sasha the truth when she found them.. but finding out about ernst, who also successfully destroys the old scrolls and what not he was sent after and gets away, challenging them all to come find him like the early game rpg big bad he is, destroys her team emotionally and leaves them scrambling for answers
Albert however refuses to let their team follow up as since they caught the cultists the mission seems over. Marcy however knows that A) maybe leaving a dangerous former captain who easily got the best of them despite being surrounded isn't a good thing and B) that there's more to this. Andrias naturally says his hands are tied and has no interest in actually searching into this more. If this comes off at all suspicious to you .. good it means you haven't forgotten what a lying dickhead this man is and are keenly picking up how burning down libraries full of ancient historical documents might benefit a guy who say, doesn't want history coming out before his evil plan is finished. We'll get to his exact hand in this soon enough.
So Marcy says
Tumblr media
Partly because this is her perfect rpg quest.. I mean her reaction to the reveal before the reality of her friends depression set in was.. as you'd expect
Tumblr media
But it shows her nature: she can get caught up in her hyper fixations, as I can, and loose the bigger picture.. but once she sees it she focuses on what matters. Her friends need answers and she's going to get them even if she has to go behind her best friends back to do it.
So they set sail for Dawnblood Island, and run into
GENERAL YUNAN, SCOURGE OF THE SAND WARS, DEFEATER OF RAGNAR THE WRETCHED AND THE YOUNGEST NEWT TO EVER ACHIEVE THE RANK OF GENERAL IN THE GRAND NEWTOPIAN ARMY!
Naturally Marcy is the only person in the canon to love that speech. She's a bit frosty to Marcy… and we later find out for hilarious reasons as she's mad Marcy didn't remember her from the hospital which is only because Marcy was hopped up on MMMM drugs. They quickly bond offer fighting some method actors. I mean who wouldn't want to punch newt jared leto in the face amirite?, pretending to be pirates, and Marcy saves them form certain death at yunanas hand.
Yunan plans to come back and fetch our heroes after she's done dealing with Grime.. given how that goes, i'ts no shock the two don't cross paths again in the book. That does leave them without a ride but that's not an issue for now as it's DUNGEON TIME BABY! I bet matt had a LOT of fun putting together what was basically a combination of a dnd campagin and an rpg dungeon.
Our heroes head through the castle, and Marcy gets her own eye flash moment like Anne's, though unlike anne's it dosen't go without notice: the rest of the party see it and comment on it and while Marcy isn't sure what happeend and assumes she just saw a puzzle she is curious.
The real show of course is finding Erest.. and despite so little page time he ends up being an engaging, intresting villian with nice parallels to marcy , a cool deisgn and a hell of a speech: As it turns out he faked his own death because he found the roll of a well regarded hero and mentor EXAUSTING. The more he kept having to do good.. the more he kept being crushed by the expectations people put in him and wanted a new life… just like Marcy. And just like Marcy andrias gave it to her… while Ernst's mysterious benefactor isn't named given his mission was to burn down libraries likely containing any trace of Andrias scheme.. yeah it's clear who it was. It also cleverly plugs the hole of "did newtopia have any records of the before time?" I mean I assumed Andrias had cleared them earlier but it makes sens eto use a public arson and a massive cult as a smokescreen. He even much like Marcy plans to have his friends and protges join him and is confused why they'd turn him down.. before deciding to kill them all.
Tumblr media
The fight, as we find out after.. is brutal. Ernest easily takes out the team sans Marcy and even she is near death by the end, only winning thanks to a truly cool gambit that still nearly gets her choked out: She improvises a poition fo rplant growth, throws it down his armor and thus it rapid grows and almost treeafies him and he thus fall sinto the ocean. It's a tragic end.
The team spends the next few weeks stranded and recovering, till Marcy finds a boy.. yes WE FINALLY MEET JOE SPARROW. She tames him with song, befriends our boy of boys and future snail fucker,a nd uses him to get them home
While Andrias MILDLY dresses her down, he quickly lets the facade drop, being proud of marcy and giving her the royal advisor position we saw, likely to keep her from running off and possibly dying again or finding out his plans. As for her team they all retire: Javi and Kettle had a very obvious bout of belligerent sexual tension going that Marcy was shockingly genre blind to, and retire for the quite life, and Femur never really liked fighting in the first place and retires to herd sheep bugs with his soft tones. It's a fond farewell as while Marccy misses her friends, she understands this batch has to go and thier story is over. It also explains why the stuff with Anne and the Plantars pull her off. To her it's just her friends departing at the end of the journey it happens. For anne it's loosing her family.
Speaking of which
Part 2: Now We're Only Falling Apart So we go right up to the part where Marcy meets the Plantars and reunites with the love of her life: The Ants are attacking, Marcy manages to herd the newt advisors into actually doing something, and then goes to rescue the plantars and reunites with Anne.. and spends two paragraphs gushing over her, at first not even making coherent noises, and drawing her with an aura of light around her and with Anne blushing.
So yeah this brings me to something i've been saving up till now: If you like shipping sashanne, annearcy, marcsha or like me sashanarcy..
Tumblr media
This book.. is gay as hell. There's a picture of Marcy in a heart blushing surronded by sasha and anne, an artists interpretation of them reuniting with all three blushng and like I said Marcy spending TWO WHOLE PARAGRAPHS on gushing about having anne back. And that's not getting into Sasha's anime drawing of the Anne vs Sasha fight having both blushing. And while Marcy DOES tend to throw blushes into her style from time to time it mostly happens with her self portraits specifically whenever one fo the girls is around. Like ti's the only timne it happens. Her subconscious coudln't be flashing
Tumblr media
Harder if it tried. If it wasn't clear enough in seris it's very clear the girls are romantically interested in one another and the only reason matt didn't persue it is that it'd clash with the ending of the work. And he still manages to help us eat good as she outright calls Sasha and Anne "my loves" in her epilouge, and Sasha outright invites Marcy to live with her as an adult… followed by Adult Marcy talking about how love is a wonderful thing. Subtly is not matt's strong suit when it comes to this sort of thing and i'm here for it. There is a lot of sweet adorable content here and i'm glad it's here.
Unlike part one I won't be recaping this one piece by piece, but that's because parts 2 and 3 are MOSTLY simply the episodes we have seen.. just from the characters perspective. This isn't a bad thing: it's nice to get Marcy's own take on what happened, and to see what she was going through integrally, as well as gets nice bits and bobs of what we didn't see. It's similar to the dipper section of Journal 3 and parts of ford's second section: we saw most of this happen, but it's still neat to see what the characters thought of these events.
As such most of it just nice little stuff like Marcy gushing over Anne, talking about bonding with Sprig.. and most importantly her reaction to Sasha. We didn't really see it on screen.. but needless to say she's horrified. It also fully confirms that Anne didn't tell her the full story. It wasn't out of malice or anything, it's clear the event traumatized the poor girl and she didn't want to relieve one of the loves of her life attempting to throw herself off a tower after trying to kill her new best friend.
It makes things nicely complicated: Marcy understandably clings to Sasha and Anne reconciling both because loosing them would destroy her so she likely would've pushed for them getting back together either way.. but without the full picture she does so halfphazzardly, trying to shove them back together, as this helpful graphic shows
Tumblr media
Instead of adress thier underlying issues. Sasha had a LOT to work out and as we'll get into in a moment with part 3, a reason why she was the way she was. It shows Marcy for what she was: a scared child who badly needed therapy,k had been pushed too far and has trouble relating to people at times. She has friends, girlfriends can connect with people.. but as someone on the spectrum myself, there's a fine line between that and being able to read people emotionally sometimes. I also have a bad problem of badly trying to fix an emotional issue instead of maybe letting it sit a second so the person can cool off, of wanting so badly to be liked and loved I forgot I don't have to try so hard. So I get where Marcy's coming from and my heart breaks seeing her like this.
We of course get her perspective on various episodes, including the fact she never really found out what went on with Hop Pop and Anne's schism, and that she loved getting to stay in the Fwagon between adventures.
The main stuff though is mostly what we didn't see. For starters we do get to see exactly what happened, or at least marcy's version of , what happened post "Day at the Aquarium". Marcy's former experince saying goodbye.. helps make it clear WHY she thought Anne would just leave the plantars and stay with her, and to her credit while Marcy writes down some pretty self destructive thoughs about anne possibly not wanting to be her friend or choosing them over her.. she snaps herself out of it, pointing out of course she wouldnt' want to say goodbye to her found family this soon, that she loves them, and it's really just Marcy worrying MORE about everything falling apart.
We also see exactly waht Andrias did: he gave Marcy her comfort food, Chicken Fly Nuggets (Which ngl even with the fly part in the title made me hungry enough for chicken nuggets I made some, as my dad sent a big frozen bag of em home with me after christmas dinner earlier this month), and outlined his fake "explore the multiverse plan". So yeah if you thought pre-face turn andrias coudln't get worse.. he manipulated a stressed out child's insecuritiys to further his own diabolical scheme to rob her of power that was rightfully hers.
Tumblr media
The other extra scene so to speak we get is what exactly whe was doing with Frobo in that shed
Tumblr media
Turns out she just spent the day testing him out. Though we do find something interesting about Frobes as a result: turns out part of why he ended up the way he was wasn't just being woken up early, something overwrote his UI with Rules of the Road.. which at first I thought they just crammed the book in there, but clearly Leif, on her way to the valley, must've stopped at the nearest factory and overwrote it with the family document. It also leaves fanfic possibilities for all of ya'll overflowing as it possibly means any other frobots coming out of that dome.. would've had the same basic start as Frobo, and as a third, which I can use for.. future projects, it means said UI COULD be used as the base blueprint to repurpose the war made frobots and give them the same chance Frobo got.
Finally for the wartwood portion of things we have her thoughts on Maddie. Which of course i'd focus on, she's my spirtual adopted daughter, but what's nice about it is the freindship seems like a first for BOTH of them. It has Marcy realising she's never really just been able to blab about her hyperfixations with someone whose gneuinely intrested and vice versa for Maddie, and that whlie Sasha and Anne "listneed" they weren't really paying attention. While Marcy didn't get AS much growth right away as the girls, it's nice to see her have some introspection during her journey.
So we finally come to true colors.. and all we get is a very gutwrenching page barely scribbled together in time after Marcy rescues Sprig.. and it HURTS as much as you'd expect, with it starting with a giantly written out and underlined he lied, more panicked thoughts, another large sentence this time "What have I done?… " and then a very small "i'm so sorry"
Tumblr media
Part 3: Now For Someone Completely Diffrent
So Part 3 is written by Anne, switching things up entirley. And out of the three sections this is the one that most feels like Matt listneed to what fans had constant questions about. We do get some nice self reflection from Anne as she realizes both how little she used to care about her parents.. and how much things have changed, from seeing them as overprotective hovering jailers.. to the wonderful people they are.
We do get some common questoins I and others had first. The biggest is WHY DIDN'T SHE TELL SASHA'S PARENTS. As it turns out there was a good reason for that: The story was hard to belivie (as Oum himself said, if he wasn't seeing frogs first hand he wouldnt' see it) and there's no guaranttee they woudln't call the police or goverment or something. It was a crappy situation and Anne felt terrible.. but telling them would've been too risky to try. That said
Tumblr media
Unlike some other things we'll get into.. there was PLENTY of room to adress this in a line of dialouge. So while I do appricate Matt explaning it here.. it's one of the few things I felt could've been squeezed into the series easier.
The book more than makes up for it though by giving us a LOT of answers on Sasha and Marcy's parents. Granted
Tumblr media
But we get photos taped into the diary of both, and what exactly their situations are. With Marcy we already got most of it from her end, we do find out her parents didn't leave right away as they waited for her and were clearly stressed over loosing her. It's a low bar to clear but.. it's proof they aren't as horrible and there is hope for them to change. There's more hope later, but we'll get to that.
We also get Sasha's background and while I feel the character was fleshed out well in the series, both this and marcy's pressure should've ben threaded in right now as it explains a lot. The book confirms what fans thought from the seperate letters: her parents are divorced and while Sasha didn't tell Anne much, unsuprisingly she was very private.. what she does know fiills things in a lot: Sasha's parents both basically started new families: her dad remarried and her mom is dating someone with his own children. I don't think they fully threw her to the side.. but as Anne says it seems like Sasha got lost at sea.. and thus her control issues come from wanting something in her life. Anne also clearly forgives both.. she admits it'll still take a while for the wounds to heal, she leanred that from the incident with hop pop.. but gets that with Sasha they maybe leaned on her a bit much and while it dosen't forgie he ractions, it makes how much she leaned into the roll, coupled with being the only stable thing in her life, understandable, with with Marcy she's just worried why she didn't talk and admits she and sasha also fucked up plenty. We also get a ncie moment as this is all because her nightmares, incudling being DEATHLY afraid Marcy died and unable to admit it to herself, kept her up.. and Sprig noticed she wasn't in the room, made her coco and went out to comfort her.
Tumblr media
We also later get more on Marcy as Anne finally reads her entreis.. and is sad she had no idea how much pain Marcy was keeping inside, and wishes she coudl've helped her. We also find out how they met: They were three, at the beach, and Marcy built an elaborate sand castle when Anne asked her to play. Marcy then went on about some game she loved, and Anne liked her and helped try to keep the waves back. It's as sweet as it is just.. painful.
We also get a nice coda to the episode abotu Sprig wanting Bee to be his mom. By the way it's an adjustment getting to use their names. I went through the WHOLE of the season 3 recaps desperatly trying to find a name.. nad Matt revealed them five minutes after the finale
Tumblr media
So it's very nice to get to refer to them with actual names. Naturally once Anne told Oum why he did all that, she understood, felt bad for him, and made him bug pancakes , realizing the kid really did need a mom. She also taught him to sew later, which anne found nice.. then regretted when she found out about the whole Frog Man thing. We also find out Trantulad was a faviorite of Bees. Big nerd just like me. Knew there was a reason I liked this man…. besides everything else about him.
We also get what i'm sure anyone reading this was hoping for: Anne on MMMMM Drugs entry! Yeah we get the wacked out on painkillers entry my dudes.. and it turns out the Domino bit of foreshadowing for the finale was a bit more direct as the Gem God visited her directly during that dream, and said your fun, still using the domino form just with wings. So apparently getting stoned allows you to talk to them directly. Intresting
Also intresitng is that Terry is nonbinary. Yeah, it never came up in series, as they werne't sadly in it long enough but they are. They use they them prounouns. I love it and i'm sorry all my old entreis have all she's and her's. I didn't know.
Outside of some nice reflectoins on Anne realizing just how much her parents missed her and what she was missing out on not being as close, there's a LOT of wholesome anne and parents content in her part of the journal, a delcious recipie and Anne unsuprisingly having wanted heelies at some point, we're done with the earth portion of things.
For Amphibia , it turns out Marcy isn't the only one to melt into a very gay pile over a new look from Sasha as Anne also spends several paragrpahs talking about the nw and improved her, and drawing it. SO yeah these three were meants to be. We get some nice stuff on the various season 3 episodes, mostly Anne and Sasha's reconciliation, but the two episodes anne wasn't there for give us two bonus stories: While Sprig and Ivy were on their missoin and during "Grime's Pupil: for the former we find out she took time to catch up and as such we find out what exactly everyone did in the resitance besides missions: Wally composed Jingles, Mayor Toadstool took care of rationing suplies, Maddie was their medic, Croaker was their spymaster and intellegence, Grime their weaponsmaster and trainer and Logel.. taught exercise classes. I mean.. everything helps and he didn't get that buff overnight.
The other is Marcy and Anne just having a nice relaxing spa day. It was mentiond in the episode buti 'm glad they really done did it. They certainly earned it. We also get several sketches of Domino 2 and babies for a page. But with that we reach the final entry and entere the finale. .and unlike Marcy Anne dosen't journal like crazy, so her sectoin ends here
part 3 is incredible , a nice bit of fleshing out and of ironing out parts that were missing. That leaves us with
Epilouge 1: You're The Part of Me That Makes Me Better, Wherever I go.
So we find out what happened between our heroes leaving Amphibia, which Marcy writs an entry on, and the time skip. To her shock, Marcy's parents werne't mad at her, undersrtood what happened and felt she had nothing to apologize for, hinting that things seemed to get better after this. Marcy's Dad did have to leave early for the job and left her with her mom after a bit of her recovery, as Marcy needed plenty of doctors to check her out, got therapy
Tumblr media
And generally calmed down. This also gave her one last summer with the girls , which depsite al lthe pain of recovery.. was nice. We even get both of them on the last day trying to play cauldrons and caverns, with Marcy appricaiting the gesture and them trying to show intrest in her stuff , and genuinely this time. She lets them off from having to do that as she gets they didn't quite enjoy it, but finds a ncie medium: they can find stuff they both enjoy and Sassh and Anne can at least try to find stuff marcy loves they enjoy to instead of jus tchecking out> Their their best couply selves as things end.
We also find out why they coudlnt' just use the portal: While I figured it was power issues, without the stones around in any form, seemingly, getting the portal working is hard. It dosne't help said portal is being kept top secret, though for VERY good reason: Mr. X feels no one country should have this power. Unless tehir krakoa but the mutants have earned it after about 80 or so geoncides so.. Terri and Him plan to keep working on it, it just may take a while.
So with that we get a tearful godobye and marcy calling them her loves because this book hadn't torn me the fuck up enough yet apparently. and thus
Epilogue 2: No One Needs To Say Goodbye
So we get a short section with Marcy 10 years later. We find out more about her web comci, which is directly based on Anne's adventures (Presumibly with her consent) Amphibi-Anne, likely a working title for the show and nicely worked in, and it's getting a print version soon. Nice girl, webcomics don't get those enough these days. We also find out Marcy decided to stay in LA with the girls…. no reallys he moved in with sasha and says love is a wonderful thing afterword. This is canon. It also made sense, as a webcomic writer she can work anywhere as long as her tools come with her and i've seen at leas ttwo have huge moves from one state to another, whcih were worked into the comics themselves. We also get a nice tease for a possible future sequel as Terri invites the trio to the lab as they have something for them.
NEVER THE END
Marcy's Journal is truly excellent, possibly the best of these three books though Journal 3 is still pretty close with it's immaculate drawings. This one is close though, and offers keen insight into the series, helps paper over what Matt missed the first go round and sets us up for a possible sequel down the line, in print or otherwise. It's everything you could hope and ask for and more so buy it. Buying these helps make sure we get more books like this and with Disney's new deal with tokyopop might mean these are more afordable for them to do too. Granted they still need to pay them, yeah I didn't forget the owl house light novel thing, but it gives me hope for the future> Thanks for reading and happy holidays.

FANTASY NETKINGS!
Here they all are! Including the 00 Designs for Zetto and Kizuna! Individual Drawings and Fantasy Rambles are under the cut ^^
Tumblr media
__________WEBMASTER__________
NETKING NUMBER ONE - KING OF LIGHT
I took design elements from every incarnation of Webby I could find for this one, and I’m really proud of how they turned out. Webmaster in this AU is non-binary, because pronouns are of no concern to the head deity, call them what you like, but they prefer they/them if you were to actually ask them.
I wanted all the Netkings to incorporate a three-pointed crown into their designs one way or another, with Webby’s in particular being the closest to the proper Netking Software logo from the canon series.
I wanted to give Webmaster a robed look while still retaining the look of a piece on a chess board, and then used the robe’s sleeves to cover where their hands would be, were they not floating freely behind them.
Webmaster is the King of Light - his ability in TOME is of course Heavenly Light, so he’s the one who brings light to the Terrain. They control the rotation of the sun and moon, and is the most powerful of the Netkings. All the others respect their power and authority, and do their best not to cross them.
Tumblr media
__________BITOPIO__________
NETKING NUMBER TWO - KING OF EARTH
The netking that gave the land its shape and introduced plant life to the terrain using his powers. Bitopio split the land in five pieces after its creation to see how different plants would thrive in different environments. Although the other netkings would rather watch the savage artificial lifeforms fight.
Bitopio‘s design is kind of a mix of the webseries and RPG. It has the brighter and more playful colors and bodyshape of the webseries with the design elements like the cape and crown from the RPG.
Tumblr media
__________KINDARSPIRIT__________
NETKING NUMBER THREE - QUEEN OF MUSIC
Kindar is next! Again, she’s a mix of both the RPG and Webseries. I wanted her to be a mix of both an angel and a ghost, since she also manages the Balancenter and the Moderators that live there. She’s also the one that sets up the tournaments and battle arenas for the artificial life forms.
She’s the netking who’s also the most attached to Softy / Gaia. She knows that her daughter is sleeping below the earth to protect it, but misses her dearly. She’s also the netking still in HOME most opposed to [REDACTED DRAGON BUG LORE], but she eventually caves and agrees that it has to be done. They can always start over, after all.
Tumblr media
__________RUBIRULES__________
NETKING NUMBER FOUR - KING OF DESIRE
Master of all things glittery and beautiful on the Terrain. Rubi grows crystals and expensive gemstones deep in the Terrain’s earth, and then fashions them into prizes and trophies as motivation to participate in the annual tournaments held for the enjoyment of the netkings.
Rubi is probably the furthest removed netking from the original designs, but I wanted to play into his role in creating Nylocke for a specific purpose, so giving them some shared traits like taste in armour and the tail were used to achieve this. (Rubi is not Nylocke’s father though, Rubi couldn’t care less. It’s like growing a rat in a lab with genetic engineering to him)
Tumblr media
__________EXECK__________
NETKING NUMBER FIVE - KING OF INNOVATION
Execk of course gets to keep his more robotic and cold look from both the RPG and the Webseries. He’s not much of a talker, creating the terrain took a lot out of him, and now he needs a mechanical body to sustain himself since his magic levels are far removed from everyone else.
Doesn’t mean he’s not tough. He created the battle web from scratch, and maintaining it takes a lot out of him, but fighting him inside his own creation is a death wish, since he can twist it any way he wants in retaliation to anyone thinking they can beat him.
I wanted Execk’s dark and usually shaded eyes to turn into a visor with digital eyes, with his one real eye resting on his crown as he pilots his cybernetic body. Execk is actually Zetto’s mentor, back when they all lived when nothing else existed. Zetto takes a lot of inspiration from him, and based his prostetic limb of Execk’s metal body later down the line.
Tumblr media
__________ZETTO__________
NETKING NUMBER SIX - KING OF POWER
00 Zetto is a mix between Episode 0 Zetto (duh) and RPG Zetto. He’s the youngest of the netkings, but is arguably the best fighter out of all of them. His magic is based on pure energy alone. He can manipulate it in any way he likes, to float and fly or gather destructive blasts that tear anything in his way apart. His impulsiveness is the only thing that keeps him from actually beating any of the other netkings, as they usually outsmart him.
Webmaster usually kicks his ass with one attack should Zetto try and bug him.
After he looses his arm, it becomes increasingly more difficult to control the energy he commands, so he usually has to let it out in large bursts to keep himself in check, hence where his Breaker Beam comes from. (Or Ki-blade if he’s in disguise. In that case he lets it out using his dual swords as vents for the energy.)
Tumblr media
__________KIZUNA__________
NETKING NUMBER SEVEN - QUEEN OF CONTROL
Probably the most bored looking and nonchalant magical cat girl you’ll ever meet (like an actual cat lol), Kizuna’s the netking that makes sure the delicate balance of magic on the Terrain doesn’t go out of whack and tear the land apart. She can grant or sap power from any magical object, including living beings on the Terrain. She uses this ability to grant “dark magic” to her hacker troops after she follows Zetto down to the surface to try and stop the “problem” they didn’t account for.
Because her magic is what usually propels the hackers when they do her bidding, its in turn associated with misfortune and bad luck. Altering the balance of the Terrain is what hackers do best after all, trying to lure out the virus pieces with powerful energies in order to make them reveal themselves.
She swaps to a gun over a staff when she sees how effective they are by comparison.

Spiderverse AU - Douxie
Okay, since I've seen a few people with verses, I might as well toss out the S.piderverse AU I have for my wizard bard since he was my easiest to come up with one.
There will be spoilers below the cut, so you've been warned!
Douxie is very much STILL a wizard of 921 years in this. He moved to New York after being based in Arcadia, California for a while. But this New York doesn't only have humans, but fantasy creatures alike to blend in and live amongst their neighbors. Though, they are much more low key, and there are some fantasy centric areas that they can feel safe within and are hidden by clever magical illusions to keep the mortal humans out.
He was bitten by a alchemical spider, one forged by Morgana herself. A champion of her own was going to be chosen much like the troll hunter of Merlin's design, but it escaped during a confrontation with Skrael and Bellrock. It instead bit Douxie and gave him even more abilities common to spiderman. He goes by Spider-Skull ( or until I can think of a better name LMAO).
I imagine his outfit is kinda like Hobie's. Except some considerable differences of course, I can't see Douxie sporting the blue and red with a spikey head 😂. But the punk theme DOES come out in Douxie's design too, just with his OWN personal touches. Black uniform with glowy blue webby markings. Maybe a spider on his chest with an abdomen in the shape of a skull. He has two braces , one for each arm, to help further hone in his spidey abilities. Maybe a spikey neck guard? IDK. I gotta draw it out one day. But he definitely uses blue, magical sticky silk akin to what he already uses!
He still uses his spellcaster guitar and wizard's staff! He can easily send them to a pocket realm and poof them into reality with his magic whenever he needs them.
His 'Uncle Ben' In this verse is Merlin of course, who perished during an attack of the arcane order and the Green Knight during modern times. merlin, during the times of Camelot, found douxie on the streets when he was but a child, and gave him a home and taught him as an apprentice once upon a time.
Douxie still has Archie, his feline dragon shapeshifter familiar and bestfriend who assists him. They have always worked together, and they aren't going to stop now.
SPOILERS below.
although he worked with miguel o'hara and was given a device to jump universes along with the rest of the spider society.... he turned away when he realized how closed minded the entire set-up was and how he does not agree to their extreme methods of handling things. He believes that that cycle can be broken alongside Miles, Gwen, Pavitr, Hobie, and many others as he is a huge believer that every life is precious and would risk countless others to save one.

Royalty AU
So here's a crash-course list of everything I've got for my Mad Ducktor x Nega Fenton Royalty AU so far, I don't think I'll write a fic for this but I do wanna do more art. 👀
It's set in the kingdom of Duckburg in a fantasy medieval time, there's magic and mythical beasts and everything awesome. The other cities around Duckburg are their own kingdoms. The magic is split between wizard magic and witch magic; witch magic is much more plant-based, it draws it's power from living things and is usually used through potions and food; wizard magic is more like spells and incantations, pulling things out of thin air and flying kind of stuff (also ignore the inconsistencies between 'palace', 'castle' and 'royal' here XD).
Cast~
Negaverse Fenton- The king of Duckburg. He's not the best king but he's also not the worst, he overthrew NScrooge for the throne and he's definitely better than him. NFenton listens to his people and does what he sees as the best, but usually his first response to most anything is violence.
Mad Ducktor- Was a mercenary from another kingdom before he broke loose, then started causing trouble on the borders of Duckburg. Between random attacks and gaining a lot of followers the king was afraid Mads would try to overthrow him, so he had him hunted down and imprisoned. The king was strangely drawn to his new prisoner, and it wasn't long before Mads was out of the dungeons to his own heavily-guarded room in the palace, then a guarded room closer to the king's, then one even closer with even less guards, before ending up staying in the king's room all together... Now he gets his own throne next to NFenton. ;) The entire kingdom just thinks that these two really just have a 'friends-with-benefits' kind of deal, but they're actually a really sweet (if morally corrupt and maybe a little evil) couple.
Gyro Gearloose- A peasant inventor who lives basically in the middle of nowhere, he lived in Duckburg during NScrooge's reign but was eventually forced out by people who thought he was crazy. He always has some crazy scheme going on, and is often accused of using witch magic in his inventions, which would make them not work for very long.
Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera- A witch and Gyro's partner, who was the only person who went with him when he was kicked out of the city. He still goes into town to sell food, and to help people with his magic. The magic part is usually free.
Boyd Gearloose- A little peasant child whose family died, and was left on his own wandering the woods. Gyro took him in and took care of him and always planned to make him leave once he was better, but in the end the inventor loved him to pieces and adopted him.
Della Duck- A royal guard from NScrooge's time, she unfortunately lost her job when she didn't stand with NFenton's revolt against the former king. Now she lives on the outskirts of Duckburg with Donald and her kids (the triplets), and is close friends with Gyro and Fenton.
Bentina Beakley- A royal guard who sometimes also acts as the castle's cook, she and her granddaughter Webby live in the castle. She's friends with Della, Gyro and Fenton, and knows witch magic.
Prof. Gearloose (A.K.A. Negaverse Gyro)- My Nega Gyro is really just this one, I thought that was a great take on him so I really see that as what he'd be like. He's the palace inventor and seems to also think he's the royal advisor, he's always there with random unwanted advice and opinions about what the king should do. People in the castle are used to it, but it drives Mads insane. There's something suspicious about him, everyone always thinks he's up to something. He's also secretly a wizard (he probably isn't called 'Prof. Gearloose' in this AU, but idk what to call him yet so that's just what I put there).
The Blue Phantom (A.K.A. Negaverse Mad Ducktor)- YAY I finally get to talk about Blue! I haven't mentioned them yet, but they're my Nega Mads. Super shy and antisocial, they prefer to not be around anyone really, and when they are they fade really well into the background. Hardly anyone sees them and when someone does it's not for long, which helped earn them their name. In this AU they're the palace wizard (though they do use a lot of witch magic too), and is the one who regulates all the magic use in the kingdom and keeps tabs on all the witches and wizards. They're close friends with Mads, since he was the only one who really put in the effort to get to know them (which is difficult to do, since they're so closed off). Nega Gyro takes every opportunity he can to push them around though, and is always cutting them off or talking over them when they finally decide to talk. NGyro has been known to steal Blue's ideas too.
Lil' Bulb and Blacklight- They're twin imps who were separated when they were hatched, the white one ended up with Gyro, and the other darker one ended up with Mads. They do end up meeting at some point though.
Okay I think that's most of it! I have a storyline for this but that's gonna take forever to explain and Idk how relevant it would be, so here's just mostly the main characters. I'm not exactly sure how all the Negaverse people coexist with the normal ones or how they figure out names and stuff, but I just wanted the characters here.

Thanks for answering my previous ask! I think I like that idea they both have regarding May n June
Now that gave me a new question hahah, do May and June have have a sentimental or sexual attraction toward Lena? What have they fantasized about it? Because they are clones of Webby, so it might be possible they also inherited the “rebel-bandit teen with dyed hair” attraction, right?
Same question with Vi towards Webby or June
Oh yeah, no, May and June are definitely into Lena. It's not just that they inherited Webby's 'rebel-bandit teen with dyed hair attraction' trait, they more specifically inherited the 'Everyone is so attractive I don't understand I feel like I'm going to spontaneously combust' trait. And boy howdy did they inherit it bad.
They've both fantasized about the idea of sleeping with Lena before. June's fantasies tend to bend more towards the foursome idea, of Lena taking both her and her sisters and making them worship her (and potentially all getting knocked up by her too). May's fantasies steer closer to posing as Webby for one reason or another, accidentally running into a horny Lena, and. Well, Webby would sleep with Lena the moment Lena wanted her to, wouldn't she? So obviously May would have to do so as well. Just to keep her cover, of course.
As for Violet- well generally I headcanon her as being a sex-repulsed asexual, but also my feelings on character's sexualities can be a little different depending on whether or not it's a horny setting or non-horny setting.
Basically, if it's a non-horny setting, I'm going to delve deeply into character's sexualities and figure out what's really what and how people feel and whatnot- figure out what labels they'd end up liking/sticking to.
But if it is a horny setting- everyone's bisexual. Everyone.
With the (general) exception of characters who have been confirmed, in canon, to be a specific sexuality. Simply because it feels a little cheap for me to ignore that. (So, for the example of Ducktales- the only person who has an in-canon confirmation of her sexual attraction would be Penumbra, so she'll always be a wlw lesbian, horny setting or now.)
So with all that out of the way! In a non-horny setting she doesn't really think about either Webby or June in a sexual sense- she does indulge in the occasional romantic fantasy with them, yes, but nothing really sexual.
In a horny setting, though- hoo boy does she want to fuck them. However, even in a horny setting, she's still a little 'hands off' about the whole deal. So the fantasies she'll masturbate to are about summoning some ancient (and usually tentacled) monster to fuck the two of them in front of her, giving her the ability to watch and lazily masturbate as the two of them are getting their brains fucked out and bodies absolutely destroyed. And if she's feeling especially naughty, she'll fantasize about using them after the summoned creature goes away, and they're still fucked out and unable to really do anything.
She actually ends up doing so to the two of them. On three separate occasions, actually. And she even got to use June after one of them, which she was quite happy about.

Spoilery, full warnings for my stories
I know some people might be worried about the content or ending of stories before they want to get into them, so I decided to make a list about mine. There's still general content warnings in the masterlists, as well as detailed ones above the chapters, but here I'll be even more detailed.
It’s gonna be a long ass post, since I’m trying to be as thorough as possible. There's really no way to talk about some of those without spoilering most of the story, so be warned, I guess.
All of the stories have a happy end.
All Stories
These are just some general warnings you can assume true for everything I write. I don’t write nameless drabbles, but what pretends to be complete fantasy novels, so there will be an untagged genre-appropriate amount of food, nudity (changing, washing, medical), fantasy religion (mostly exclamations like “by the Seven”, but the gods are existing entities), violence and sfw romance. Yes, there will be blood. There’s also lots of foul language and curses.
Thorns & Jasmine
Arc 1: Plain torture, no way around it.
Warnings: Cutting, whipping, burning, broken bones (quit a lot, including fingers), starvation, dehydration, strangulation, stress position, ripping off bark, eye whump (blinded with fire), body horror in a nightmare, betrayal by a loved one, an animal is in captivity, but not harmed, 2-3 weeks captivity, failed escape attempt, some killed bad guys
Some chapters are marked with wishing for death/brief suicidal ideation; at the end, he all but gives up hope of ever being found, and he's terrified of losing his soul to the evil entity that wants it. He hopes he'll die before it comes to that, but he does not want to die in general.
Most chapters are the Whumpee's pov, with a few extra ones about things happening at the same time in another place.
This arc ends with his rescue, but he’s more dead than alive.
Arc 2: Recovery, and it's not a fun time, for anyone.
Warnings: Obviously all the injuries that occurred in the first part, presumed dead, kinda hearing voices, as in he loses control of his empathic magic for a while, painful and slow healing, no painkillers, "hold him down"; all of this is consensual as soon as he is aware, there's no "for your own good"
Most chapters are in the Caretaker's pov. Said Caretaker also gets a bunch of flashbacks from seeing his friend like this, which reminds him of his own traumatic past.
Tropes for him: Longer term captivity (2-3 months), isolation, starvation, dehumanization (he is not considered a sentient being, but a plant), "lab whump" but not very explicit, involving cutting "for science", especially hand whump.
There is one chapter that talks thinly veiled about real suicidal ideation/attempt; it has an alternative version without any mention of it.
The last chapter has medium graphic descriptions of eye stuff and can be skipped if you don't like that. It’s related to healing, but he does stay blind. Forever.
Arc 3: Still recovery, but more mentally than physically.
Warnings: Those chapters have Whumpee find a teacher to help him being blind. There is chronic pain, and lots of emotional issues from his lover's betrayal, over the loss of his magic, to not making progress as fast as he'd like to. Fear of being a burden on Caretaker.
The Caretaker's flashbacks continue in this arc, same warnings as before, and honestly, the roles aren't super clear cut here.
Chapters are mixed between Caretaker and Whumpee pov.
There's a giant spider, and she's very friendly (Searching, Webby). She’s a pet/service animal.
Arc 4: A bit adventure-ish.
Warnings: This is rather low on the whump. Main issues here are loneliness, because he had to leave his home and friends behind, as well as frequent nightmares and panic attacks. The only physical aspects are chronic pain and accidental, small injuries.
There's also some mention/description of an injured human he heals.
This chapter ends with him becoming friends with some humans in a village near to where he decides to settle. It's not the "happily ever after" I aim for in a love story, but happy enough for now.
Undeserved
This one goes from bad to worse, straight down.
Warnings: There's some slightly gorier descriptions of his accidental hand injury, but (in my opinion) not over the top. Said hand needs to be amputated because of those injuries, not as torture-based whump. Other than that, there's captivity (arrested for his crimes, transported in a cage, then put in a dungeon), cutting, burning, beating, strangulation/suffocation (magical, and with a belt), dehydration, starvation, general abuse, painful wound "cleaning" (also just torture), "impossible tasks", infection/gangrene/fever, not overly descriptive mentions of vomit and urine, some alcohol and short mention of alcohol addiction (his father), descriptions/nightmares of execution by hanging, I would say low self-worth, but it’s basically non-existing self-worth, and multiple flashbacks to an abusive/unhappy childhood. Two other flashbacks show cut off fingers, dislocated shoulders, and illusion magic used to mentally torture unnamed side characters (one time with the illusion of burning alive), as well as the “forced to hurt” trope.
This is intentionally written so it only becomes slowly clear that he was forced to do most of the things he's accused of, and hasn't done others at all.
In one chapter (Burning) he wonders if he would die if using his magic against the magic-suppressing shackles, and tries it. He decides that it would work, and he can't do it.
Several chapters show child abuse (Trust [age 9], Praise [age 12], Worthless [age 16]), both physical and emotional. Those can be skipped. One of those also shows a violent animal death (Trust).
Most chapters are the Whumpee’s pov, with two of his brother, and two of more or less Whumper turned Caretaker.
The three chapters at the end additionally include mutilation/death of a female side char, descriptions of said corpse, being left in the sun,  caning, and discussion about being forced to kill, or have someone he cares about being hurt in his place.
It is mentioned that his brother was falsely accused for Whumpee’s crimes, and now helped capture him. Some of the flashbacks show more of their past; their mother died at the brother’s birth, and Whumpee took care of him during their childhood. In their teens, they started to fight, and eventually had a fallout and parted ways. There is no Whumper/Whumpee or Caretaker/Whumpee relationship between those.
This story has no comfort, but it continues seamlessly in Glass Shards with the rescue.
Part 2 of the ebook version is arc 4 of Glass Shards under the Fancy Boots banner.
Glass Shards
Arc 1: And this one goes from worst slowly up again!
Warnings: He is in the state I’ve left him in at the end of Undeserved, so all those injuries will be present. There is a second amputation, without anesthesia, but at least by a healer this time. Painful wound cleaning, as well as again not overly descriptive mentions of vomit and urine. Mention of periods. Both have self-esteem issues. Phantom pain, and nightmares.
There are two gorier nightmare-chapters (Heartless/Collateral) which can be skipped. They’re way more explicit than the rest (and probably a bit more than most of Undeserved). Read the warnings on that one to learn more.
His “recovery arc” deals exclusively with him recovering, and growing closer to her, until they decide to stay together (non-romantic).
The point of view switches between the two main chars.
Arc 2: Now it’s time for her to get hurt.
Warnings: This one starts with “lady whump”; first some failed sexual assault in the streets that ends with the assaulter getting killed and her quite out of it. There is a lot of talk about the events of Undeserved; more specifically his childhood including abuse, a short mention of alcoholism, and the fallout with his brother. She talks about her own childhood as well, which includes presumed dead family, homelessness, stealing to survive, a sexual relationship with someone older than her when she was 16, getting caught stealing and put in the dungeon. She breaks in somewhere to gather information and gets hurt in the process (falling out of a window, presumed broken ribs). Lastly, there’s a lot of talk about what would be considered asexuality and aromanticism in modern terms, including a bunch of internalized aphobia. And there is one (consensual) kiss no one liked.
So far there is one quite gory nightmare; Collateral. Please heed the warnings on that one and feel free to skip, it’s not story relevant.
This is some story, and a lot of talk. They make plans to try and reconcile with his brother, and start traveling to reach that goal. There is some talk about their relationship, and what kind it is, settling on what in modern terms could be considered a QPR. As far as her issues go, she’s overly self-conscious about falling asleep in front of him, and him pointing out that she always picks the same food for lunch.
The point of view switches between the two main chars.
Arc 3: Time for the happy end! Almost...
Warnings: Lady whump. There is another attack while they travel, which includes quite some violence, including sexual assault. The attackers get killed in gruesome ways (cut throat, severe burns, impalement). He gets hurt quite badly as well, which requires field medicine (painful wound cleaning/stitching). There is mention of periods, slightly more direct than last time, including what could be considered endometriosis. Later, accidental injuries; she tries to stop the brothers from fighting and gets hit, which breaks an already cracked rib and punctures her lung. It requires painful healing with no anesthesia. He almost drowns, but is saved at the last moment. There is nudity as far as changing clothes requires it.
Despite all, the brothers do make up.
The point of view switches between the two main chars.
This is a happily ever after, with a cozy house and a white picket fence and pretty much exactly the life they both dreamed of. Unfortunately I continued writing. Oops.
Arc 4 (Fancy Boots): A new friend.
Warnings: The first half is pretty much only angst. A familiar face appears and recognizes the wanted criminal (the “Whumper turned Caretaker” from Undeserved). There’s the fear of being arrested/sentenced to death, panic attacks, phantom pain, hidden scars. The second half our new arrival gets hurt for once, which includes strangulation, beating, a more or less severe head injury (some blood & concussion), and a quite persistent headache/weakness.
The *cough* new third half (yes that’s math) deals with bad nightmares and a severe lack of sleep. Some more flashbacks are linked under the Undeserved banner, which are more graphic. They include mutilation/death of a female side char, descriptions of said corpse, vomiting thanks to said corpse, being left in the sun, dehydration, caning,  and discussion about being forced to kill or have someone else punished in his place.
It ends on a positive yet bit bittersweet note; they all end up being friends, hopeful for the future.
The point of view switches between the three main characters.
Heal my Wounds
Basically just a love story...
Warnings: “Enemies” to friends to lovers, environmental lady whump, crushed in a cave in, broken bones, punctured lungs & suffocation, scars, permanent nerve/muscle damage, lots and lots of guilt, lots of alcohol as coping mechanism, but no addiction, self destructive behavior, violence, homelessness, starvation, sexual innuendos (most are for the lack of better terms consensual), nightmares, and he believes she loves another, but no cheating is suspected or involved (they’re not “together” yet). The faintest mention of vomit and urine.
This is mostly emotional whump, with a bit physical sprinkled in here and there.
She has a strained relationship with her parents, who always had high expectations of her and don’t approve of the things she wants to do in life. There is also talk about how they wouldn’t approve their relationship, but he never gets to meet them during this story.
The story ends with both happily together, and her forgiving him, partly because she realizes that there’s no way to tell how it would have ended had he followed her orders. They find a new job together both are happy with.
The point of view is shared between both main chars.
Nuisance
Warnings: Lady whump, despite being called “girl” on occasion she adult, homelessness, starvation, dehydration, arrested for stealing, abuse by the guards, stress position, degradation, beating and bruises, blood and injuries, painful wound cleaning, not overly graphic vomiting, fear of death, panic attack, misunderstandings, alcohol mostly mentioned, bitten by a dog (mild), talk about attempted sexual assault, incompetent/morally gray/reluctant caretaker

dream by WOMBO Draws the Park! Part 5
We're taking a look at how the AI interprets Goblin Woods today, and it's...fine. I mean, the individual images all look really good, but there isn't a lot of variety here, in either the palettes or the compositions. I think the software kept pulling from the same original images. But there are some fun details in some of these, so let's go!
I'm returning to my usual practice of starting with no filter:
Tumblr media
This version seems to have interpreted the prompt to mean that some of the trees in the woods have goblin heads. Or something. But the more you look at it, the more you spot the subtler figures in the spaces between trunks. Not exactly what I have in mind for the visual aesthetic of Goblin Woods, but effective in its own way.
So let's try some appropriate filters. Dark Fantasy sounds promising for this material:
Tumblr media
This one is heavy on the woods, but lighter on the goblins...unless those swollen boles are where they make their houses? I like the spider-webby bare branches in the upper right.
What about something related, like Arcane?
Tumblr media
Here we go! This is exactly the kind of "dark fairy tale" vibe I'm going for. Huge trees, tangled undergrowth, hidden hollows, eerie lights with no readily identifiable source, and a suggestion of humanoid figures that never seem to be quite there when you look at them directly, all jumbled together in a dreamlike mishmash. Well done!
But can we top it with something like...oh...Provenance?
Tumblr media
A little lighter in tone than the previous ones, but...dang, they ain't lyin', those woods can goblin! Here, the trees themselves are the goblins. I can almost see this as an actual sculpted piece in the theme park, for people to stop and take pictures of. Very...Jim Henson Creature Shop.
What can we get from the Psychic filter?
Tumblr media
More goblins-as-trees, looking significantly more sinister than we got from Provenance, in both their features and the more lurid, magenta-splashed palette. Nice touches of autumnal foliage near the top there--this is still a Halloween theme park, after all.
Let's go darker still with Malevolent!
Tumblr media
Now the magenta is shading to blood-red as the (increasingly spiky) goblins begin to emerge from the woods and come after us! I'm fascinated by that apparent floral light fixture in the top right quadrant; I would definitely adapt that into the lighting style of the area.
Let's wrap this up with a view of the Baroque filter's interpretation of the prompt:
Tumblr media
Yeah, I knew this one would be good. We're back to the impressionistic not-quite-faces in the trees, and as usual, the brassy color wash seems to take us back in time a few centuries. Not bad!
For our bonus, I had real trouble getting anything too interesting out of the names of the rides in Goblin Woods--I guess the words are too generic--so I instead plugged the name of one of our fairy-tale NPCs into the Provenance filter. Everyone say hello to the Witch of the Woods!
Tumblr media
This is just superb--it's the woods and the witch and her hut, all rolled into one figure. Shades of Baba Yaga!

What is the genre for Ace of Cards?
-The genre of it is mysteries, thrill, Isekai, supernatural, magic, fantasy.
Is there any inspiration for this story?
-The characters and the story are all inspired by other Isekai stories and also inspired by a Tarot Card. I am a fan of Vocaloid, and one time I heard of a song called “Alice In Human Sacrifice” English cover when I was young. I was so naive and English is not my first language. So, a little more inspiration for that.
When will it come out?
-When I am finally done with the plot and the twist of the story.
What did they look like?
-I have done what they're appearance looks like, I will post it later.
Are there any other inspiration you get for making Ace of Cards?
-I do.
Games; Genshin Impact, Reverse 1999, Honkai Star Rail, Kingdom of Hearts
Anime/Manga: Bungou Stray Dogs, The Trash of Count's Family, Vanitas No Carte, My Next Life As A Villainess: All Route Lead to Doom, The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior, I am the Villainess Daughter So I’m Taming the Last Boss
Is it alright for me to ship, headcanon and theorise of the characters?
-It is alright to ship the characters of my story and also headcanon them. As long as it is a legal ship and also none of the characters of mine are out of character. And it is alright to make a theory of them, let alone analyse them with all you want! I would love to read it.
What makes you want to write your book?
-I was thinking of making an Isekai story like all the Isekai books I have read before. I want to learn how to write a story that are not specifically a modern style timeline. I want to see the difference I can make with modern life and fantasy life.
