Idk how you want to structure this or how it's gonna sound when I try to type out what's in my brain rn, I do know that I want this to be a full hc tho

Ok. So. I've seen some art here & there of some of the M6 with their own children; mostly just babies but there are a couple older kids in the mix as well. This is where things in my head get weird so bear with me:

I'm thinking this ask could go three ways (I also don't know if Nadia & Portia will be able to fit in to this ask but it is what it is), and you can do just one of the options or all of them, I'll let you choose:

A. M6 reacting to MC telling them they're pregnant

B. M6 & MC mid-pregnancy preparing for the baby

Or C. M6 getting to hold their kid for the first time

He managed the birth impressively well - years of medical expertise kicked in and he went full "doctor" mode, keeping a cool head and open communication and anticipating every need

Until he held his child for the first time and had to sit down because his knees gave out. He has a whole new reason to live well

You briefly mistook it for horror - you know he likes surprises, but this is something else - but it was really his own panic at suddenly being plunged into a whole new world of emotion and instincts

Straight up disassociates. Not due to any fault of yours, it's just a lot. Especially given his own context for parenting (or lack thereof)

You know him well enough to expect him to need a moment, so you're not surprised when he shakily nods, takes a deep breath, and tells you he'll be back before dark before walking off into the trees

Deeply apologetic once he gets back because in hindsight ghosting you might not have been the most appropriate response

He's happy, if not deeply anxious, but he gets more and more excited with every pregnancy update

He makes the baby's crib himself, seeking out the tree with the best wood, chopping it up, designing and cutting the pieces, carving and sanding and painting them with the utmost care

As your due date gets closer he starts reverting to an old habit of his, waking up several times through the night with a need to keep watch for any dangers or discomforts and make sure you're warm

You wake up to this sometimes, with him sitting quietly next to you in bed, one large hand resting protectively on your belly, a quiet smile on his face as he stares at the cradle on the other side of the room and counts every tiny kick the baby lands on his warm palm

He doesn't hesitate to tell Asra, Nadia, (and yes, Julian) about your pregnancy, because he knows they'll be able to help you in ways he can't. Watching you in pain during birth is almost traumatic for him

Doesn't say a word when you hand him his baby, just looks back and forth between you and them in delight and awestruck joy

Funnily enough, she doesn't bring up telling anybody else until several weeks have gone by or until you suggest it. She's used to keeping secrets and this is so special she's still finding words for it

She's also more familiar with what pregnancy can look like, and she doesn't want to make any big announcements with you too early

Borderline obsessive about making sure that you're properly fed and cared for. She keeps every snack stocked, gives you massages every night, asks you about any symptoms and offers relief

She ends up inviting everyone over for dinner so you two can break the news to them together, and if one Devorak wasn't loud and emotional enough, two of them are almost too much for the roof

Mazelinka is quick to offer her services, whether that be bringing soup, taking you two (three?!) to Nevivon so the grandmas can help, grabbing one of the grandmas and bringing them here, etc

Pepi develops a new habit of bringing you stolen fish at least once a day to make sure your growing kitten is properly nourished. the smell doesn't help your morning sickness but you appreciate it

Portia cries every time she sits down to work on another onesie or baby blanket or cloth diaper, which is several times a day

When it's time for you to give birth, she holds your hands as tightly as you hold hers and nearly knocks a doctor out of the way to catch the baby

Full-on happy sobbing when she holds them. Gets jealous anytime someone besides you gets to hold them longer than her

Assumes you're joking until you tell him otherwise because what

It's not that he's against it, but realistically speaking he knows that one of him is already a lot to handle. And you're cooking another??

You end up picking a spot close enough to Vesuvia for your old friends to be able to help, in a town where you know you'll have a fresh start. Buying a cottage is hard when you're used to a palace

Lucio occasionally remembers his mother's comments about how her pregnancy with him made the Red Plague seem like a summer cold, and then he panics about how much pain you must be in

Sits bolt-upright in bed four months in to your pregnancy in a cold sweat because it just hit him that your belly bump is actually an entire tiny human that's half him and half you and it's miraculous

Starts talking to your bump almost constantly after that

Everything from what the dogs are doing, to the right way to start a fire, to the best types of cookies - he's telling it all to the bump

Does he know, logically, that your baby isn't likely to be born missing an arm because of his amputation? Yes. Does he still have an irrational fear of that happening? Also yes.

Has such a hard time controlling his frustration during the birth when you're in pain and there's nothing he can do about it

Wraps his golden arm in a baby blanket and doesn't care about the mess the first time he holds them and presses a kiss to their head

Third post in three days, I will probably slow down a bit after this. I'm glad people seem to be liking them, thanks everybody!

Operator: "Hello, thank you for holding. My name is Mindy. What can I help you with today?"

Caller: "Hello, Mindy! I am [unintelligible hissing], but most humans call me Doc Mantis. I am the Chief Medical Officer on the ship, and we've had a few incidents recently regarding one of our newer humans."

O: "Alright. I must preface that I am not a medical professional, so depending on the situation I may be able to answer, or I may need to refer you to additional resources."

C: "Anything you can do will be appreciated. Approximately five days ago, shortly after the midday meal, one of our humans was brought in with a severe injury to one of their limbs caused by, what the others called, a 'dare.' The patient made many short, sharp sounds in response to this injury. Earlier today, all three humans on the ship were making the same sounds while observing something on one of the monitors. Medical staff immediately ordered them to come for check-ups and necessary medication, and I notified the captain to prohibit all media related to what they were watching."

O: "I'm guessing the humans weren't very happy about that?"

C: "That is correct. We followed protocol to protect the health of all crewmembers, yet the humans seemed angry that we removed the source of their pain. Is this common for humans? It seems unlikely that a single ship hired three humans that all have the same rare trait."

O: "That depends on the actual trait. I think I know what is happening, but I'd like to clarify something first. You described the noise as short and sharp, and I'm guessing that they were also repetitive? Do you mind if I try to recreate the noise?"

C: "By all means."

O: "Hahaha!"

C: "Yes! That is it."

O: "And the media they were watching, did it involve domesticated Earth animals?"

C: "Actually, I believe it did. One of the humans mentioned 'cats' after the incident."

O: "Great, I know what this is. The sound is called 'laughter', and is usually a sound of joy. Humans often laugh in response to humor, though occasionally someone will laugh when they are uncomfortable or in pain. It seems that one of your humans has a laugh response to pain, and the second incident with the cat videos was a normal humor response."

C: "So our response was unnecessary, and potentially lowered the humans' morale by prohibiting humorous media."

O: "Yeah, you should probably lift the ban on cat videos."

C: "I will notify the captain immediately. Thank you, Mindy."

O: "Happy to help."

Tuberculosis and the Wild West

Spoilers for RDR2 , but it’s been since 2018, y’all. Trigger warnings for serious talk of severe terminal illness and severe stigma. As of 12/20 or 20/12, I have fixed some of the wording and added a few new things so please seriously head the warnings. Ok, first, some background: I've been studying TB since 2018; my father had a form of TB twice. I'm a historian, and one of my specialties is the history of medicine. Of course, you don't need to be a historian to write something like this. Also, please "like" and reblog, this sort of content takes time. Tons of pics of buildings, and info below of the “lore” and IRL people.

Background info about TB that y’all need to know: TB is still horrifically deadly and still a leading cause of death. To give you all an idea about how recent genuine scientifically proven treatments were- antibiotics targeting TB were not discovered until the late 40s. However, sanatoriums (TB hospitals) and similar TB-related places didn't all close until 1970. My sister was born in 1977. To give you all an idea of how treeified people were of this disease, think of the stigma with the AIDS/HIV crisis in the 1980s or the early fears surrounding Covid.

TB is one of the three oldest diseases dating back to Ancient Egypt with early evidence appearing through ancient mummies. Starting around the 18th century, western people believed TB was a disease of the elite granting someone ethereal beauty, writing prowess, and artistic talents. It was known as a "romantic disease" and a "beautiful death" - both of which we know aren’t true. Some western beauty standards are influenced by TB including rouged lips, blush, pale skin and a thin figure accentuated with corsets. However, the appearance was due to the patient wasting away. Patients actually had bloodied lips, feverish cheeks, a pale complexion from the illness and losing a large amount of body weight. That's why TB was initially called consumption.(There have been many other names for TB including the White Plague and Captain of All These Men of Death and phthisis which is Greek in origin.) However, people eventually woke up and realized, "Oh wait, this isn't so sexy” The disease spread like wildfire, especially in the cities affecting whole families as was seen with Doc Holliday. Soon, society blamed anyone who wasn’t a white upperclass person AND those who were "immoral . They believed it was someone’s own fault if they had the disease. People held a very e*gen*c view of the disease believing their activities or who their families were caused this. Immoral in this instance includes thieves, sex workers, bar workers, drunkards, violent people, women who had children out of wedlock, said child born out of wedlock, and homeless people. Obviously, this isn't true. It was overcrowded spaces, poor hygienic practices, but also animals, especially cows and deer. Ironically, the deer/stag plays a huge role in RDR 2. A few aspects from RDR 2 were inspired by Doc Holiday, one of the greatest gunslingers and outlaws in American history. His talents with the gun were considered by some as otherworldly. He and Wyatt Earp are most famous for the shoot-out at the OK Corral. Doc was dying of TB and headed west in order to potentially receive some medical attention, but found out that being an outlaw was great fun. Watch Tombstone for a fictionalized version of him. He had a very colorful life, but died of TB in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, at the age of 36. The same age as you know who.

This leads us to RDR 2 itself. The short answer about survival is potentially yes, but with some major stipulations. I have traveled across the country studying TB and visiting TB sites and have seen these locations firsthand. Read further to read how survival was possible and for pictures of key locations.

IF Arthur had rested, maintained a proper fat rich diet, rested in especially clean air and partook in light exercise, he MIGHT have had a chance. I would estimate a 60-70 percent chance based on my readings of TB survivors. The chance of survival could be more if he he headed West immediately after diagnosis. The wealthy traveled to newly built luxury resorts, but most people lived in tent colonies, so Arthur would be very familiar with the site. Hell, if the gang moved West, and followed the conditions I mentioned above, he MIGHT have been able to recover without heading to a TB colony. The the gang wasn't stable, and they were being hunted down, etc. However, people were pissed about the TB patients heading west to settle on "their land" (which is, of course, Native American land that was stolen). This pushed people to the outskirts of town and eventually, the establishment of sanatoriums which were tuberculosis treatment centers.

Both the picture above and below would be an example of the tents used by TB patients to camp out. The top picture was probably taken around the 1890s which is Arthur’s lifetime while the picture blow is probably from a later era like the 20′s based on the clothing. City people in big cities sometimes camped out on the roofs of their flats and apartments hence the setting of the second picture.

Due to the extreme fear, people were literally dropped off by families/friends or even government officials far outside of town. You did not want society to know that you had loved one with TB or else the stigma would affect you as well. Later, TB patients were forcibly institutionalized. Many of these patients were ashamed of their affliction, but also felt further shame that their loved ones could be ostracized by society. I cannot stress enough how horrific this disease was and how tb psychologically affected the sufferer and its loved ones. Many tb sufferers never saw their loved ones again due to their families shunning them. I interviewed the elderly who remembered family members suffering from the disease and it still haunts their lives today. We see some of the shunning and stigma in the game, not just from the townspeople but from the gang. It's actually one of the reasons why I truly dislike a few unexpected gang members, for example.

At least Abigail, Charles, Tilly, John, and Sadie still treated him as a human. Hell, Even Molly was kinder to him and she was really suffering in chapter 6.

I will tell you right now, realistically speaking, in no way could Arthur have done anything at all in chapter six. I’m not only talking missions, but any sort of work. I won't go into graphic details, but one of the less graphic ones is that his hands would struggle to grasp objects, especially a gun. His joints would be too swollen. I know because I've seen it firsthand with my father and read plenty of accounts about it. Other than that, the game does a pretty great job of representing TB - however, Arthur could have been arrested or fined for spitting blood on the street which he did quite often in the game. Link goes to an academic article, but here is a more accessible link.

By 1899, people had been heading west for TB treatment for decades. People of all races headed west to Colorado, California, New Mexico, and Arizona being the prime locations. Dry air and or mountainous air were your best bets. Colorado was quite literally known as THE place for TB tourism as it was called. It was one of the first major waves of health tourism in the history of the USA.

Another famous person and case study is Dr. Edward Livingston Trudeau. He himself suffered from tuberculosis who sent up tuberculosis huts in Saranac Lake, NY. For further study, other key locations include Asheville, North Carolina and in the mountainous regions of Pennsylvania. They huts looked like this:

These were also in Colorado Springs, Colorado Springs was full of them and they are still occasionally found in people’s yards today.

I visited one in the Pioneer museum in Colorado Springs. I can post my pictures later, but this is one found in an outdoor museum.

The TB patients had a very strict regimen of never leaving the bed and used bed pans. Healthier patients had access to their own private toilet. Stronger patients could work on doctor approved exercises, while even healthier TB patients who weren't ready to leave facilities yet could spend the rest of their time working around the camp or sanatorium. Below is how Arthur would have looked getting treatment if he wasn’t in a hut or tent:

The problem is TB patients had a very chance of suffering from pneumonia once TB went into remission. It's happened in tons of my case studies. If Arthur could have survived both TB AND pneumonia, then he would have been considered "Ok". Not good, but “Ok”. However, I can't predict how long he would have lived afterwards. Some TB patients had tuberculosis come in a second wave. This is, unfortunately, very common. Some people lived a few months, a few years and some lived decades after surviving the second wave.

Fortunately, survival after two waves include people who lived hard, like Arthur. Trudeau lived till 68, and that is after 2 bouts of TB and pneumonia, with the third wave of TB being his cause of death.

This is very likely a reason why Arthur would have been in New Austin if they had kept him in the epilogue and continued the TB storyline. I personally do NOT think John was ever going to kill him. MISC NOTES: Related to RDR: Important side note: Sex workers were especially blamed for spreading TB which makes sense because of the contact with multiple people, but it's not that different than someone who works at a factory every day, runs a shop or works at the docks, or in similar situations. Anyone could spread it. This is why it is actually technically very offensive to ask someone like Abigail if she had TB because it would be a way to imply she is unclean as a person. (Which people in the game already believe with some of the fandom similarly treating her poorly.) The history of sex work is my other specialty, so I am very familiar with their history. I will say, from what I gathered, sex workers did NOT seem to be that much more affected than others, but at the same time, we don't have a lot of records of people who weren't white upper-class Christian men. So we have these records if these people were arrested, but remember that all of the examples of people I mentioned were viewed as second-class citizens. Therefore, we have hardly any records of sex workers as actual people and historians have to be creative to find other ways to research them properly. Modern day: TB is also becoming antibiotic-resistant at a frightening pace. This will become a massive problem. Treatment requires at least two antibiotics - streptomycin being the main choice for the primary antibiotic. This treatment lasts months, and these antibiotics are insanely strong. They can really mess with the body's system. I've seen it. My father was one of the lucky ones only having to take the pills for 8 months. Many others take it from a year to even 18 months. Other people take the pills and undergo radiation therapy to treat TB. Modern science can't produce enough new antibiotics to outpace it, but alternative treatments do appear to be promising. WHAT’S UP DANGER

(PART TWO)

Turns out being a hero is hard skill to learn. Especially if you were working on a time limit.

You had recently gained the ability to uh- well you didn’t know what exactly. All you knew is that somehow you were at least 5x as strong as you were before and a lot more sticky.

Not to mention your senses were all over the place.

It’s like you could see, hear, smell and feel everything.

You didn’t really want to avoid Damian, but whenever you came across him — or just went within his immediate vicinity. Your “tingles” and enhanced “senses” would flare up and make you dizzy.

Usually it’d only be that bad when there were projectiles or insects around you. You surmised it was probably your powers warning you of the dangers he may potentially bring. Whether it’d be from himself (the heir must have some sort of self defense skills) or his name (you didn’t want to think of the target you’ve put on your back both in school and life in general by being his acquaintance. Jesus [Y/N]. Being distracted by your future and planned failure in academics doesn’t excuse letting that happen. Stupid.).

You were mostly stumbling around with your strange set of abilities until you met this girl named Gwen.

First of all, she was just — incredibly pretty. You couldn’t but just stare at her sometimes and—

Getting back on track — !

After getting some spidey sense feedback loop and ripping off a massive chunk of her hair. You find out that you’re this universe’s “Spiderman.”

And that she, was from another universe entirely.

Even a big sci-fi junkie like you had to doubt her words, but as she showcased her abilities you pretty much went on your knees and begged her to teach you.

The both of you get to work quickly. Investigating how she got to your universe and practicing the use of your powers.

The first part went really well. You even met a few other dimension traveling spider-people (and animal) along the way. After sneaking into a lab, you found out that it was a rich man’s, King Pin, “bring his family back project” that brought you all together. But that his actions were probably going to destroy the fabric of reality if he kept going.

The second part, not so much. Your stickiness was something you just couldn’t control.

Luckily it was winter break and that prevented you from ripping another schoolmate’s hair off.

Your “universe specific” abilities, as the other spider-people called it, like invisibility and bio-electricity only came out at random. Sometimes at the most inconvenient times.

Your webbing abilities were subpar to say the least. Many attempts led to you breaking several bones.

Praise super-regeneration and all

But f u c k did it still hurt.

and it was during one of those web-swinging practice sessions when you fall into the arms of Tim Drake.

Tim was just trying to get some fresh air.

After passing out on duty last night and having to deal with Damian suddenly abandoning his missions for some reason. He decided that maybe it was time for a break.

He didn’t exactly expect to have a young adult falling into his arms during said break.

He was just talking a casual stroll really. In a relatively quiet part of Gotham, he didn’t expect much to be happening much less a pretty/handsome giving him a small wave as they sheepishly laugh at their . . . strange encounter.

“ Hey. ” You smiled at him. Praying to all that is holy that he doesn’t notice the bits of undissolved webs you have littered across your hoodie. Thank goodness you didn’t wear your makeshift mask today. He was going to think you were even more of a weirdo than you already are!

“ Hey. ” Tim replied. Praying to all that is holy that you don’t notice his heart rate picking up and his ears turning red. It was the cold he swears! The cold!

“What’s a beauty like you doing around in a place like this?”

They both ask in sync with completely awkward delivery to boot.

just some 9-1-1 headcanons/plot bunnies

so i've kinda gone on a 9-1-1 deep dive that started out casual and rapidly turned into an obsession. a few things to note, i definitely think that buck and eddie have something (whether it's romantic or queerplatonic is up for grabs but there's something beyond friendship there and no one can convince me otherwise) and i am a strong subscriber to any tropes that strongly encourage found family/families so...make of that what you will

anyway, after binging all of the available episodes, i have several headcanons that i want to put out there (for some reason a lot of them are from season 5???)

ana realizing that there's more to eddie and buck's relationship than it seems in that scene from s5e2 when she brings christopher to the station. buck clocks that eddie has started panicking immediately and ana just like. *looks* at him for a few seconds in a way that just makes me think that this woman clocked that they have a deeper than normal connection to one another. that or she's heard about buck but obviously has never seen eddie and buck interact and is suddenly realizing exactly what people keep trying to tell her about

a buck/eddie-focused exploration of the aftermath of 'brawl in cell block 9-1-1'. buck freaking out once mitchell's been carted off to get his heart taken out and refusing to let eddie go anywhere while checking him for injuries, eddie having some uncomfortable realizations about just how affected buck was by the whole experience. personally, i feel that would lead to them actually talking about the sniper and all the mess that goes with it

lots of potential for temporary angst with eddie having a lot of big feelings about having failed as a husband in his marriage to shannon and not wanting to get married again b/c of it (thinks he doesn't deserve another shot at it? thinks there's something fundamentally wrong with him to where he can't? don't know how this would manifest exactly). personally, i see this eventually leading to him and buck realizing that they're more or less functionally married and they may as well reap some tax benefits from it but you can do whatever you want with that

buck goes to the funerals of many of the people who die on calls that he's a part of. it's mostly people that he directly worked on and he doesn't tend to tell anyone that he's a first responder that was involved (b/c of how devon's sister reacted in s1) but he does go to them.

kinda of tied to the headcanon above this but! buck getting adopted by a bunch of older queer folk following the deaths of mitchell and thomas in s2. he goes to the joint funeral that was planned for the two of them, in part b/c he wants/needs to and in part bc he accidentally took a few photos from the scrapbook from the scene (he shoved them in his pocket on instinct when thomas collapses). anyway, he shows up and the older queer community has rallied to show up at the funeral and they recognize him as someone who needs more found family and just adopt him into their ranks. i could see the 118 finding out about this soon after it happens or not until years later; maybe karen and hen finding out sooner than everyone else but buck asks them to keep it quiet?

s5e14 where jee-yun gets sick? what if it actually WAS leukemia and she somehow ends up needing some sort of donation (plasma? bone marrow? idk really anything about how cancer is treated). jee's put on a list and they start testing family members, none of whom work out until...buck. cue maddie not wanting to ask that of buck b/c of all the baggage that comes with daniel and the buckley parents are absolute assholes about it (along the lines of completely disregarding buck's autonomy as a human being in the face of their precious granddaughter being in trouble), maybe a chimney that isn't trying to be pushy about it but also just...can't help pushing a bit, a buck that so overwhelmed with everything that he's feeling that he goes off the rails a bit. obviously everything works out and buck donates or whatever needs to happen and jee-yun is completely fine b/c i don't actually want it to end badly

the entire 'buck's a sperm donor' family argument and maraget saying "you're a miracle baby yourself" made my fucking blood boil and i want to see a better exploration of the fallout of that statement b/c you just know that there was more to it than it just getting brushed off

buck telling maddie that he has a checklist that he goes through every time he wakes up post-coma in s6e12. chris and eddie being part of that list, where buck is just constantly checking up on them to make sure that they're still in LA (part of the reason why it's so easy for him to fall asleep/relax on the diaz couch or in their house in general). eddie doesn't notice the uptick in check-ins b/c he's too busy figuring out the least intrusive ways for him to check in on buck at all times b/c he NEEDS to know that buck is alive/breathing. once eddie notices though, he confronts buck about it

maddie asking buck to be her maid of honor for her wedding since hen is obviously going to have best man privileges. mostly just exploring the ridiculous that this brings up and everyone joking about buck in a dress (up to you whether he actually wears one to the wedding or not), but i have to include a side note that the buckley parents are dicks about it and have no sense of humour/fun

literally anything featuring athena being worried about buck as a maternal figure, i was so disappointed by her lack of interaction when buck was struck by lightning and, while i'm so fucking happy to have may acknowledging that buck is bobby's son too, we missed out on athena being devastated by the situation as well

there will probably be more of these to come at some point knowing myself.

A somewhat overdue update

Under the cut because this story might get long...

I started to boycott Twitter (now X) in mid-September 2023 because of the potential paywall I heard about around then. To this end, I deleted my original Twitter account some time around then (either end of September or November, I can't recall). This boycott obviously impacted my ability to be "Boueibu reporter", as I used to call it.

Somehow, the Japanese-language anime fandom has held on after that and I had to create a burner account after a certain point, since I'm still in the Hypnosis Mic fandom (and still regularly following/translating tweets for the mobile game in particular - see here for those).

I went back to the Boueibu Twitter account to see if I needed to turn notifications on for said burner account...Surprisingly, I did need to. The account had carried on without me, albeit with far less activity than it used to have - it's mostly merch and cake tweets now.

It's been almost 10 years since Boueibu's heyday (the first Boueibu update I can recall dates to late November 2014). I've changed, Twitter's changed, Tumblr's changed and most of the Boueibu fandom has scattered to other fandoms.

In early 2024, I'm making it as a professional translator, but feedback I've gotten is proving, once again, I'm extremely imperfect as one. You could argue it's time for me to move on.

On the other hand, I failed the JLPT in 2022 and attempted it again in 2023, but results for this latest attempt aren't out for at least a week. I also don't have enough confidence to throw a bunch of money - several times the JLPT amount - to attempt a national translation qualification test.

Basically, I've come to a crossroads: continue translating Boueibu tweets, or not? Out of nostalgia and a continual need to improve, I say "I'll continue". However, out of a commitment to translation ethics (which I learnt about in the almost-decade since starting mg&c) and a final optimal product, I'll be more thorough this time. (e.g. I intend to provide links to original texts out of transparency.)

(I'm not going to tell you my burner account's handle in case it goes down.)

Also, the Fairy Ranmaru blog posts. I still intend to work on those (I'm still on Balletta's first post...it's been years since episode 3 first aired, so I might have to edit it thoroughly before I post it to make it match my current level of translation skill), but they're a very low priority and, as previously announced, are on a different blog. TL;DR:

There are tweets missing from mg&c from Sep. 2023 - Jan. 2024 due to changes on Twitter. I intend to translate these missing tweets in a slightly revamped way to what I used to do previously, so expect them soon. After that, I'll keep looking out for Boueibu tweets, but they will become a lower priority.

Fairy Ranmaru blog posts are still going ahead on the Animanga Spellbook.

Wrap-up?

Dare we hope for a reasonable wrap-up of the SAG-AFTRA saga soon?

I predicted 'one week tops' and I am already at day+10, which was to be expected, in a way. But the first signs of a potential détente were there at day +7 already, and that made me grin.

Current state of play seems to be a common push to finally be over with that strike, with a strong preoccupation of SAG-AFTRA to land a fair deal, in the process. No efforts are spared as we have recently seen with long week-end separate working sessions. And a constant go-between with AMPTP, who finally started to show some will to compromise on the most thorny parts of the problem: AI, minimum rates and streaming residuals. There also seems to be some renewed flexibility on the union's side, with regard to the studios' 'last, best and final offer' of last Friday, as we are informed by a very well-written article in Variety (https://variety.com/2023/biz/news/sagaftra-strike-ai-amptp-contract-1235783065/):

As far as streaming residuals go, there seems to be a catch with regard to the studios' last offer. The 100% increase is - very probably - not calculated on a net worth basis and it stands only if the show is among the platform's best viewed (so long for the hopes & dreams of many C and D listers):

What is new-ish, compared to last week's state of play is the added pressure of the quarterly earnings calls on the studios' shoulders (https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/warner-bros-discovery-david-zaslav-sag-aftra-strike-ends-soon-1235784065/). In this case, Warner Bros Discovery:

Did you get what that man wanted to say with that last, painfully torturous phrase? Mmhm. Thought so: me neither. And FWIW, I just happen to know that a mouthful of clichés aligned like that at the end of a speech usually mean nothing else but this possible translation I am offering here:

'We know we've severely screwed up on that one and we're currently on damage control mode. However, we're not ready to acknowledge that we've been almost completely disconnected from the general audience's expectations since at least the COVID-19 pandemic, an unpredictable act of God situation to which our response was very poorly calibrated. We are still not willing to adjust our existing business model and strategy, and sincerely hope to be done as soon as possible with this protracted labor dispute, in order to avoid further critical losses.'

This tells me we might see an end rather sooner than later. I think it's a matter of days, by now and I will also follow ***'s own quarter call, tomorrow.

Who is the voice of the female Deputy?

When I saw this question, I decided to try to find an answer.

I looked up all the actors listed in the credits, listened to their voices (in interviews, demo reels, or other videos), and… I’m still not sure who played the female Deputy.

While I usually find it relatively easy to recognize voice actors in French, my native language, it turns out that’s much harder for me to do in English. Also, it doesn’t help that they’re usually very good at changing their voice/accent and that, in real life, most of them don’t sound like the characters they play.

I still believe the person who played the female Deputy is also “Cult Follower Female 5” (CFF5), but it seems to me the actor used a different accent and tone so the cultist sounds a bit “villainous”. In any case, I didn’t find anyone that sounded exactly like the two characters…

According to my ears, though, the female Deputy and the female Captain from New Dawn have the same voice. Outside of cutscenes, the Deputy has 314 lines in Far Cry 5 (which you can listen to here, here, here, here, and here) and the audio files were all reused for the Captain. In cutscenes, so the “lines” that were specifically recorded for New Dawn, the character sounds exactly the same to me, which means the voice actor must have worked on both games.

I looked at the names that appeared in the credits of the two games and narrowed the list down to the 15 (+1; see below) likeliest candidates, so here are the people who, in my opinion, could potentially be the voice of the female Deputy, as well as, when the information was available, either in the game or on IMDb, which character(s) they played:

Again, English isn’t my first language, and after spending two days listening to all those voices, everyone started to sound the same to me :’) If you’re a native English speaker and/or have a great ear, though, maybe you’ll be able to more easily solve the mystery! We can do it!

*IMDb says Amber Goldfarb played “Noodle’s owner” (the woman who called Ms. Mable for her pet snake) but the files tell me the voice is actually “Civilian Female 6”, so Mara Junot.

Am I the asshole for swapping bodies with a girl without telling her exactly why?

Now, for some context, I (19, M) am currently staying at a camp site during school break, me and other 5 kids around my age. Do note, however, that we do not go to the same school. I study at a prestigious private academy, while they come from a public school. They have received their tickets for free from a school raffle, while I paid for mine.

Now, the camp we are staying at is advertised as a very boring place. Not only that, the tickets are just slightly above the average price, so you'd really be better off going to another camp. However, as one of the kids I'm camping with told me, their school seemed to find this specific place to be the closest available, so all in all that's what the principal picked.

I, however, came here for a specific reason, a very important one, which I'll get to later.

Now, I have been coming to this camp for a few years now. Often I am the only one here aside from the two camp counselors, save for the rare occasions where someone else comes here for some reason. During the times I've been here before, I've been building a bit of a secret lab under one of the cabins, where I keep the body swapping machine, which, if you read the title, will be important soon.

Now, one of the girls I'm camping with this year (Let's call her "C") very obviously has a crush on one of her classmates, and also shows signs of severe anxiety and low self esteem. I decided to take this in my favor.

I needed someone to swap bodies with using my machine, and I went to her and made my offer. Were she to help with my experiment, I'd charm the boy she liked and get him to be C's boyfriend while I was in her body, so she'd be his girlfriend when we swapped back without needing to go through the stress of interacting and impressing him herself.

Though C was reluctant at first, she accepted. I took her to my lab with me, and using my machine, we were able to successfuly swap bodies!

Here's where things go south. See, a possible side effect I speculated to be caused by the body swapping would be light memory loss and trouble recalling the order of certain events. After we swapped bodies, I started to think about this possibility, and... I felt anxious. Extremely anxious, like never before! It was C's anxiety that was manifesting within me, as I was now in her body! It was AWFUL. The pressure, the dread, everything felt like too much, and I passed out, and hit my head pretty hard on a nearby table.

I eventually woke up, and things seemed normal at first, until I realized something.

Not only could I not recall how to operate the machine, I also could not remember WHY I built the machine in the first place. I know there's something hidden in this "boring" camp! And I know my machine was a potential way to find it! I know there was a reason I wanted to swap bodies, but I can't for the life of me recall it! My memory is all jumbled...

I believe my hypothesis of a memory loss side effect was true, and that combined with me hitting my head as I fainted has caused the memory loss to become far greater and more severe. The fact that I now have bursts of anxiety every so often does NOT help my case, and everytime I start thinking about... all of this, I start getting anxious. Dangerously so. What if I am never able to swap our bodies back again? What if I am never able to recall what the purpose of this experiment was?! What if I never find out what is hidden within this camp?!

I brought up my worries to C one night, and she berated me. I never told her exactly why I wanted to swap bodies. I believed it wouldn't be necessary, but she says that if I had told her, then at least she'd be able to tell me now what it was. Furthermore, she did say that since she was a participant, she should've been given all the details. When I asked why she didn't pressure me to give her the full story and/or back away, she told me she felt too anxious to do so then, afraid of confrontation, and honestly, now that I feel her anxiety, I don't blame her.

The point is: she says I should've told her. And though I can't say I disagree as I look back on it, there must have been a reason why I didn't tell her? Or did I simply judge it as unimportant? I... I don't know. My memory is jumbled, I'm finding myself confused and anxious often. One side of me tells me I am at fault, and the other tells me there must have been a reason I did not find it necessary to discuss the reason with her, but I can't remember! I don't know what to do, or even what to think!

Minoan Gods

Decided to take an old article and repackage it for the tumblr audience.

The double-edged axe or labris, likely the least controversial thing written here.

To honor the latest release of Minotaur Hotel I decided to do an article on what is known of the Minoan deities.

Known as the “first European city-makers” and a distant precursor to Greece, what is called the Minoan Civilization after King Minos of Crete was a mysterious Bronze Age nation that governed Crete and neighbouring parts of the Aegean. Its age, likely influences over posterior Greek (and by extension western) culture and unique art has long made it a subject of mystique and intrigue. Whereas it’s the several still undeciphered scripts and languages or the fact that it seems to have a rare genuinely matriarchal society, it seems the countless research and academia only raises more questions than answers.

One such well documented but ultimately unsuccessful endeavour is identifying the pantheon these people worshipped. It is strongly speculated that Minoan Crete was theocratic (Kristiansen & Larsson, 2005, among several others) and several art either represents cultic activities (such as the famous bull leaping) if not gods themselves, but in the absence of the proper written word this is beyond impossible to ascertain. The implications of understanding Minoan religion are very clear, as beyond offering a snapshot to the lives of these people it also bears the potential implication that many Greek gods and mythological figures ultimately had their origins here.

To completely compile, summarise and synthesize all that has been written on Minoan religion is a task far too vast to implement, so here are some of the most widely agreed upon gods.

Queen of the Gods

Snake goddess figurine by C messier. The most well known Minoan possible religious artifact, it’s still not clear if these figurines represent a goddess, multiple goddesses or human priests.

By far the most well kown figure attributed to Minoan religion is the Queen or Mother goddess, sometimes known as “Snake Goddess” due to an abundance of figurines depicting women holding snakes. Perhaps surprisingly (or not given the second paragraph), she’s not actually attested anywhere, given that Minoan scripts haven’t yet been deciphered, but her existence can be inferred due to a variety of factors:

Female figurines are by far the most common representation of what could be interpreted as a god in Minoan sites. Chief among these are the aforementioned “snake goddess” figurines. While there is considerable debate on whereas these truly represent deities (plural or singular) or mortal priestesses, they are comparable to apotropaic depictions of surrounding cultures, most notably those of the latter Athena Parthenos which similarly is associated with serpentine iconography as controlling these forces of chaos (Ogden 2013).

The fact that Minoan society was matriarchal in nature, which would lend credence to the supreme being in their cosmology being feminine in nature. While a dominant female deity does not always correlate to a matriarchal society (i.e. Amaterasu, Virgin Mary, et cetera), the opposite, a matriarchal society with a masculine supreme god, is yet to be documented (though see below).

Several Greek mother goddesses such as Demeter and Rheia are thought to have a Cretan origin (Mylonas 1966, Sidwell 1981 among several others), so it’s not terribly hard to see them as “descendents” of this Minoan deity.

The Philistines, contray to biblical assertions on Dagon worship, seem to have favoured a goddess as their primary deity (Schäfer-Lichtenberger 2000, Ben-Shlomo 2019). The Philistines, through genetic legacy and material culture, are now understood to have had an Aegean origin, so again seeing this as a continuation of a Minoan goddess is plausible.

Several names have been speculated for this deity, usually along the lines of the author’s interpretation of Minoan scripts (which should be noted, are not only undeciphered but very likely don’t mention deities at all, since all we have seem to brief texts likely attributed to tax reports). The name “Rhea” doesn’t seem to be of Indo-European origin (Nilsson 1950, Sidwell 1981), making it very likely that this is a theonym with Minoan origins. The same applies to Ariadne (Alexiou 1969) and possibly also Athena (Beekes 2009). Conversely, the Philistine goddess is possibly attested as “Ptgyh” (Ben-Shlomo 2019), a name that is speculated to be related to Greek “Potnia”, “mistress”. In all likelihood, such an important goddess likely was known by a variety of epithets.

Fertility is naturally considered a major function of this mother goddess, but perhaps in ways one might not expect. An emphasis on solar worship has been noted due to temple arrangements and material objects such as “frying pans” with solar iconography (Ridderstad 2009), suggesting that, rather than an earth goddess as one might expect, this was a solar goddess. Solar goddesses are known from a variety of Near Eastern cultures such as Egypt (Sekhmet, Hathor), Anatolia (Arinniti, Istanu, Estan, Wurunsemu) and Canaan (Shapash) so a solar interpretation of the Minoan supreme goddess isn’t unusual. In particular, this might imply a more “chthonic” interpretation of the sun than the Classical “object in the sky”, due to temple angles tressing sunrises and sunsets (Ridderstad 2009), whch is consistent with the Hittite notions of the sun goddess ruling the underworld. Regardless, as noted below in Talos there is also possible evidence for a Minoan male sun.

More unambiguously, this goddess had a civil and possibly domestic function. As noted above snake goddess figurines might be apotropaic in nature, used to ward off evil spirits or more mundane threats like snakes. If Athena is derived from this goddess then a role as the protector of the palace is also implied given Athena’s role in the Mycenaean era, and both Ariadne and Athena are associated with weaving. Conversely, so are solar goddesses in other places, like the Baltic Saule or the Turkic Gun Ana, as the rays of the sun are easily linked to threads, further suggesting this role for the Minoan goddess. Both Rhea and Demeter are also associated with lions, animals that not only are symbolic of the sun but also of a notable sun goddess across the sea, Sekhmet.

The fact that the Minoan ruling goddesses was the possible genesis for several Greek goddesses like Rheia, Demeter, Ariadne and Athena suggests a rather extensive and important function in ancient Cretan religion. Conversely, it might also suggest that what we might attributing to a single goddess was in fact several different deities, but as deities overlap and flow into one another it is possible that these goddesses were either seen as one or acquired independent identities several times throught Minoan history.

The Bull God

The bull is extensively depicted in Minoan art. Most common are bull-leaping frescos depicting youths of both genders leaping or interacting with bulls, suggesting this was a common Minoan sport and perhaps even a religious ritual. But bulls are depicted in many other contexts as well, and as such the existence of an actual Minoan bull god is frequently speculated upon.

In Near-Eastern cultures, bulls are both solar and lunar symbols. On the one hand, the bull’s horn/s resemble/s a lunar crescent, and indeed not only are Middle Eastern male moon gods like Nanna and Suen associated with the bull but even the Greek Selene is described as having a chariot pulled by bulls, suggesting that not even a shift towards a feminine moon deity erased this iconography. On the other hand, a bull is a powerful animal and thus worthy of male solar gods, most notably the Mesopotamian Marduk (literally “calf of the sun”). Sometimes both interpretations show up in the same culture: in Egypt the Apis bull is associated both with Ra and with Osiris as Yah (the moon). Perhaps the same applied to ancient Crete (again, see Talos below), but a lunar bull would certainly be a vivid symbol contrasted against the sun goddess.

The bull is associated with Dionysus which otherwise is mired in more “exotic” symbols, suggesting that the putative “Minoan Dionysus” might be the bull god. It has long been speculated that the bull god is a male youth and son and consort to the queen of the gods, though women are also depicted bull leaping.

The Greek minotaur has long been speculated to be a remnant of the Minoan bull god, not without reason being so throughly linked with Crete as a concept. In this case, the monstrous depiction is either fully discontinuous from older practises or defamatory, with my personal two cents that it is also a jab against the bull gods of the Phoenicians, accused at the time of human sacrifice by the (infant killing) Greeks. Asterion is said to be the birth name of the minotaur by Pseudo-Apollodorus, but I wouldn’t read much into this since this name (literally “starry one”) is a common Greek name for many figures both historical and mythological, and at any rate a recent Indo-European name at odds with the most likely Pre-Greek Cretan languages.

“Dionysus”

There is extensive evidence of wine cults in Minoan Crete (Kerényi 1976). This, combined with the Mycenaean depictions of a bull-horned Dionysus (or “di-wo-nu-so” as it is) seems to point to a Minoan origin for this god. “Dionysus” is an Indo-European name connected to Zeus and other sky father figures but the actual character of the god is not easily identified in the PIE world, suggesting a Pre-Greek, local origin. A possible exception is the Lusitanian god Andaeico (Teixeira 2014) which might resemble the putative “flower Dionysus” (see below), but this deity is himself not well understood and might be from an ancient Iberian stratum in Lusitanian culture.

The Mycenaean Dionysus is a figure with stronger ties to death and rebirth than revelry necessarily but the evolution from “eldritch god” to “party dude” might not have been as linear (geddit) a concept as one might expect. Male figurines thought to represent a young god increase in popularity in later stages of Minoan history (Vasilakis 2001) as do male youth figures often identified as “prince of the lilies/flowers” which alongside the wine cults is closer to the Classical Dionysus than the Mycenaean or later Orphic one. However once more in the absence of deciphered scripts it is impossible to say for certainty that these figurines represent deities let alone are Dionysus. Hell, the “flowery figures” have even been interpreted as female at times.

If an actual god, the “Minoan Dionysus” might very well be identified with the bull god, as the bull is a rather odd symbol for the “exotic” attributes the Classical Dionysus is associated with. Ariadne in Greek myth does get hitched with Dionysus; an imbalanced, reversed remnant of the male youth/Minoan queen goddess pairing perhaps?

Talos

Perhaps the only Minoan or at least Cretan god we may truly known by name is Talos. In Greek myth Talos is best known as the strange automaton made by Hephaestus, but it was also the Cretan word for “sun”, analogous to “Helios” of mainland Greece according to Hesychius of Alexandria. Zeus was worshipped in Crete as Zeus Talaios, who was associated with the sun, and the Tallaia was a spur of Mt. Ida associated with sunrise rituals (Nilson 1923).

This association of Zeus with Talos is as peculiar as it is extensive. Zeus, a god whose origins are well documented to be Indo-European in nature, is held in Greek myth as born and raised in Crete, and Cretan depictions of Talos differ from those of mainland Greece in having wings. Further, the seduction of Europa by Zeus as a bull links the Classical Zeus to Crete in a very fundamental way. This seems to indicate a rather through syncretism between the Greek/Mycenaean sky god and this indigenous Cretan deity, which in turn implies a rather relevant role to the Minoan Talos.

Conversely, outside of Crete Talos is an enigmatic figure, as noted by Pausanias himself which seems more confused than anything. Certainly, the story of a pre-sci-fi robot is weird, let alone how it relates to an ancient Cretan god, linked to the supreme god of all Greeks down to his very birth.

Talos is truly an anomaly. A solar god which was important enough to warrant syncretism with Zeus, in a matriarchal culture where the sun seems to have been traditionally the supreme goddess herself. Crete was likely never a monolith even at the height of Minoan rule, but all current signs point to Talos being an ancient Cretan deity from before PIE influences in Greece, and he seems so out of place.

My personal two cents is that Minoan cosmology was similar to that of the Hittites and other Anatolian cultures, where the sun is male during the day as it travels through the sky and female at night where it rules the underworld. Talos’ syncretism with Zeus therefore would be derived from representing the male, skyward aspect of the sun, corroborated by worship at the Tallaia. In the original Minoan religion Talos was probably lesser compared to his female aspect (which even as a chthonic deity would easily be accepted as the supreme power; even Mycenaeans favoured the chthonic Poseidon to the celestial Zeus after all), but his roled ensured syncretism with the king of the gods once Crete was conquered.

Britomartis

Britomartis is possibly another deity we might know from a genuinely Minoan or at least Cretan name. Solinus claims it is “sweet virgin” in Cretan and the name doesn’t seem to have Indo-European roots. If true, I’d imagine this theonym is more due to syncretism with the Greek Artemis if anything as I doubt ancient Minoans cared much about virginity as a concept, though Artemis herself may be derived from this deity. Some archaeologists have further suggested that it is an euphemism for the deity’s actual name, since being a goddess of the wilds saying it might have been unwise (Ruck 1994). Another name attributed to her is Diktynna, “hunting nets”, or simply Dicte/Dikte (unsurprisingly, she named said mountain, and was likely its spirit). I’ve never seen the etymology of this name tracked, so I can’t say for sure if it is Greek or Pre-Greek in origin

Britomartis is in Greek myth a mere oread or mountain nymph, said to have invented hunting nets. She is said to have fled Minos’ lust, a tale that even Siculus expressed disbelief at due to her divinity. Thus, although greatly diminuished by Hellenistic times, she was still clearly held to be a deity, and still seems to have been worshipped in Crete during Classical times, frequently appearing in coinage as a winged figured. She is equated to Artemis, a goddess associated with the wilderness and mountains, and it can be assumed she represents a similar “lady of the beasts” archetype. Artemis herself has a name of unclear etymology, and could be of Minoan origin, being perhaps another name for Britomartis.

Some authors tempt to lump Britomartis with the Minoan mother goddess, but to me these seem like clearly distinct figures. Whereas the queen of the gods is a civic, fertility and possibly solar figure, Britomartis is alcearly a goddess of the wild places, perhaps even more specifically the embodiment of Mt. Dicte. Of course, overlap between these two goddesses likely happened at several points in Cretan history.

And that’s it for now.

Other Minoan gods have been positted, including a sea one (naturally), but they aren’t sufficiently supported by everyone in the field at large, so I won’t bother.

My DBH headcanon(s)

So I recently received DBH as a gift, after years of being obsessed with this game, lol AND, so I thought, why not share my post game headcanon(s) here. Just to be clear, I will base my head cannon after the peaceful revolution ending.

This is a(n incomplete) list of all of my HCs !

1st HC : Connor’s siblings

I like to think that after the revolution, Connor will go back to the cyberlife tower and then discover several things: first off, in a rush, most remaining androids were destroyed, including all of his “replacements”. But, in one way or another, he will find an abandoned android that look like him. A forgotten project, if you will: RK900. The project wasn’t 100% finished, resulting in RK900 having issues; mostly sort of seizures and other problems in direct or indirect links. (I still hesitate to HC him as mute, not sure, though it is a nice concept)

In my head cannon, RK900 is like we see in the Machine Connor ending, where he replaces Connor. His name is Nines (given by Gavin, though people always call him Niles instead, assuming a typo or mispronunciation). Though, they can be differenced, especially because their personalities are very different. Connor is a puppy. Nines is a raven.

Another surprise, Connor find Connor-60 still alive. Hank had sloppily shot him right in the right-eye, effectively knocking him out for quite a long time. Maybe another bio-component was broken that led him to be knocked out for so long. Any way, he’s alive and not deviated yet, but luckily, Connor does that for him.

At first, everybody at the DPD had a hard time differentiating the two Connor, if they weren’t face to face with them. The only different was Connor-60 had a quite big scar from the bullet wound, and a permanent decolourized pupil/optical bio-component. Connor-60 slowly started to hate his name and thus opted for being called Conan (and it’s easier to know which is being called). Hank and him still have an iffy relationship, and he prefers Sumo’s company. He also joined the SWAT team. IDK, it just suits him (Captain Allen is sceptical at first, though he sees how Conan has potential) Of course, their personality is quite different. Thanks, deviancy. While Connor is a puppy as previously stated, Conan is very cold and quiet. He’s still very much like Connor’s initial personality when he hasn’t deviated yet.

They all live in Hank’s house, but it’s quite small for 4 people and a dog. That’s why Hank is secretly searching for a bigger house. Nines wants to get his own house, though, but Conan wants to stay. Who’s going to rightfully spoil Sumo if he isn’t here, after all?

Also, Hank is 100% their dad now. Go away hankcon shipper cuz this relationship is 100% father & son(s).

On a (not so) unrelated, note, Hank’s mental health also improved, as his sons really do take care of him. He still does get drunk from time to time, especially after a hard day, but it happens less and less.

2nd HC : The C-bling’s (pun intended) fashion senses.

Connor’s fashion sense:

He got that fashion sense from Hank’s own wardrobe, but with his own twist. Colourful opened flannel with usual neutral shirt under it, dress pants & shoes. Though, he recently developed a taste for ripped jeans. If he doesn’t wear his colourful flannels, then patterned sweatshirts are his must-go. Music band names? Sure. Sweatshirts with dumb jokes like: “Who needs hair on a body like this?” ? Yes. Prints like houndstooth, waves, or simply bicolour? Why not !

Conan’s fashion sense:

He doesn’t really care for such things. He’d happily keep the clothes provided by Cyberlife if it wasn’t ruined by his Thirium and very taboo for free androids!! To keep wearing such garments. So, he’d resort to any shirt found and pants, though he usually has jeans. He also has grown attached to his SWAT sweatshirt and can often be seen around the DPD wearing it. The colours are kept neutral: different shades of grey and black, very little white.

Nines’ fashion sense:

Having been deviated recently with no memory beforehand, Nines hasn’t got the chance to really explore himself. Perhaps he’s too scared for that, perhaps he’s too busy for that. So, his usual go-tos are buttoned-up shirts, or turtlenecks. He does appreciate long coats to go with everything. Like Connor, he prefers wearing dress pants. His palette is still neutral, but perhaps a bit more colourful than Conan’s: white (esp for coats. It reminds him of his Cyberlife jacket), black, grey, and if he’s feeling like it, deep blue, emerald or dark green, crimson or dark brown.

3rd HC : Nines and Gavin

Yes, I ship them. Yes, Gavin is an asshole. Yes, it is because he has issues. Luckily, Nines also has issues and is having none of his partner’s shit. Their relation get better with time passing, and their “I’m going to kill you before you kill me” slowly morphs into playful banter and inside jokes.

That’s all i can think of for now.

It was the first warm spring day; warm enough for one to change into a bathing suit and hang out at a pool. And not just any pool, Heath had a membership to a luxurious rooftop club. He had invited his family to enjoy the view and warm water with him and Paige. Paige had hoped they would've gone together, just the two of them but she was accustomed to having his family around. And spending time with both of her parents made Gracie happy, and Paige didn't mind Gracie being happy.

Paige had asked River to tag along but she had been busy. It had happened a lot lately. River didn't seem busy, though, it almost felt like she was avoiding to come along as often as usual. Sometimes she agreed to come but cancelled at the last minute. When Paige had asked if everything was alright, River had made jokes and assured there was nothing to worry about. Paige wasn't completely convinced but she didn't want to be nosy.

Her luck with Alex hadn't been any better. Unsurprisingly, he had come up with some obvious excuse to avoid spending time with so many people. "You'd benefit from a little break!" she had said. "I have my books for that," he had said and shrugged. She had made him promise to join her next time.

Paige had thought of bringing her work laptop along and doing some research for Autumn products and ad campaigns but Heath had convinced her to focus on relaxing. He couldn't convince himself, though. He had done work-related calls for two hours and there seemed to be no end.

She had time to catch up on celebrity gossip. Judith Ward shared her thoughts on her career and her five marriages and whether she would get married again. I love how unapolectic she is, Paige thought. People can be so nasty about her personal life and she doesn't give a damn.

Venessa Jeong had been arguing with Judith's daughter Catalina (who was an aspiring DJ and influencer™) because they were after the same man. Their feud had been going on for some time and gossip hungry public loved it. And so did the magazines. C*ntalina should keep her eyes off of my man! There's plenty of single men for her to flirt with, Venessa answered to the magazine. When asked for a response, Catalina had just laughed childlishly and said they were living in a free country. Eventually he'll come to his senses and realise who's the funniest to be around...

All that money and fame and still they have such mundane problems. But it's nice to see that their life isn't perfect either...

Heath's ex Martina had been busy after their divorce. And during the marriage, if Paige had understood correctly. During the time Paige had known her, Martina had introduced several more or less serious partners. The current one was young model Andy who wasn't the brightest crayon in the box but had a heart of gold. Even though they had known for only a short while, Martina and Andy's relationship seemed more stable than the others. It had potential for a long-term relationship while it didn't feel shared mortgage level serious.

Paige wondered where her and Heath's relationship was heading. She wanted something serious eventually, get married, maybe a kid or two… She just wasn't a hundred percent sure if Heath was the one. He was a good partner and all but he was… experienced. He had almost completed his family life cycle and Paige hadn't even started. His daughter was almost an adult already, would he want to start over with a baby anymore? And even if he wanted, wouldn't it be weird? They hadn't deeply discussed their future plans yet but Paige knew it was something they should discuss. She just felt very uneasy about it.

Notes: I'm thinking of sharing that magazine pose accessory I made for this chapter. But it only has that one swatch! Anyone interested in making some more?

This time I post the chapter in larger chunks. Easier for me but is it better or worse for you? Or indifferent? Should I hide part of the post under the cut? Let me know what you think :)

SFW Relationship headcanons : P.Mitchell

Requested?: Yes and no

Warnings: Mentions of lying and a brief mention of death

Words: 1650

note: I have now entered a bit of a Maverick phase. I fully blame a select few gifs (one of which is below) and that one scene in the beginning of TG: Maverick where he calls the jet sweetheart. They knew exactly what they were doing with that scene.

This is written using gender neutral terms.

a- asking (Who's the first person to confess and how does it happen?)

Mav would be quite upfront about his feelings from the beginning. However, I picture him having a mutual confession with his s/o while doing something they both enjoy.

B - Butterflies (How they act when they're nervous.)

On the rare occasion that our favorite dare devil is gets nervous, he's somehow still as charming as ever. He'll stand off to the side with his hands in his pockets, shuffling from foot to foot. Occasionally scratching the back of his neck or pulling at his shirt collar.

c- cuddles (What is their favourite cuddling position? Do they like physical touch?)

Before you two got together, he wasn't against physical touch, per say, he just didn't get the hype. Once you started initiating it though? You practically have to peel him off you. He's not particularly picky when it comes to a position. Big spoon, Little spoon, an arm around his waist while you walk, him varying his head in your hair while you cook... He’s down for it all.

d- domesticity (Are they the type to settle down with you? Are they willing to help with chores? What is your daily routine with them?)

This all depends on how you define "settling down".

A lifelong commitment of love between two adults which may or may not see you two walking down the aisle? Sign him up.

A house in the suburbs, church bake sales, and PTA meetings however? That’s his personal version of hell.

In every area of his life he’s horribly restless and avoids anything that could be routine and predicable like its the plague. This has led to several potential partners to label him a commitment-phobe, which actually couldn't be further from the truth. Once he’s with you, this man is your absolute ride or die, and If you're anything like him, that die might become a bit more literal if you aren't careful. Don't hesitate to tug his reins a bit and drag him back down to earth, just don't expect him to remain there for too long.

e- encouragement (Do they encourage you to achieve your goals? If so, how do they support you?)

When I said he's your ride or die, it applies to all areas of your relationship. Once you two are together, your goals and achievements are his goals and achievements, and vice versa. Mav is an absolute force of nature, so once he’s cheering you on, you can expect to be very successful in all areas.

f- favourite thing(s) about you (What are their favourite personality traits/physical features about you?)

Personality: He loves your lust for life and your ability to role with the punches. He frequently comes to you with a variety of spontaneous ideas and would love it if you even just gave him the time of day (or night). If you actually enthuse him, or better yet bring your own ideas to him? He’s taking you ring shopping wherever you two land.

Physical: I swear this isn't a knock at his stature, but i really feel like Mav would love a tall partner. There’s something about long legs that he just finds *chef kiss*. Also, If he happens to come across the snacks you hid on the top shelf, he’s going to go all pouty for minimum of 6 hours. Its oddly adorable, and not just because he’s a little on the small side.

g- goofiness (Do they like to make you laugh? How often do they joke around with you?)

Despite his ego, he's not afraid to laugh and frankly becomes uncomfortable when things get really serious.

h- honesty (Would they lie to you? How much do they share with you?)

This is his biggest red flag.

Due to his somewhat controversial personality, he’s developed a bit of a lying habit to avoid as much friction as possible. This eventually leads to him telling little white lies about extremely trivial things.

Has he seen your baseball cap? Of course not. He totally didn’t take it yesterday to keep the sun out of his eyes while he worked in the hanger.

And if the lie could protect you, evenly a minuscule amount? He’s doing it. No hesitation.

Its a slow process, but he’s getting better at being truthful.

i- impression (What was their first impression of you? Was it positive or negative?)

You two met when you answered a posting asking for help restoring an old two seater plane. You were pretty inexperienced in the field, but were dying to learn, and who better to learn from than the best? During your first conversation you expressed this desire to him and you could all but actually see his smile over the phone. You continued to talk until he formally invited you to come stay with him while restoring the plane. Arriving in Nevada, he was expressed how exciting it was to finally put a face to a name (and voice). He of course thought you were attractive, but it was over dinner your first there that you smiled and laughed at one of his stupid jokes he began to fall for you.

j- jealousy (Are they the type of person to get jealous? If so, how do they react to being jealous?)

Not in the least. He’s very secure in your relationship and any attention/interest you receive does nothing but boost his (already massive) ego.

k- kissing (Where do they like to kiss you? How frequently do they like to kiss?)

Kisses from Mav are nothing short of earth shattering. He kisses like the last thing he'll ever do. They aren't frequent, but each one is well worth the wait.

l- love language (What's their love language?)

Quality time. Mav absolutely love spending time with you. You could be putting sheets on your bed or sailing to the south pole. He's just happy to be with you.

m- marriage (Do they want to marry you eventually? Who proposes to who?)

He doesn’t hate the partnership side of marriage, it honestly feeds into his slightly possessive nature. What he isn't a fan of are the social expectations as well as the overt formality of it all.

n- nicknames (What do they call you? What do you call them?)

For you: Angel, honey, sweetheart

For him: Darling, Dear, Mav, Cap/Captain

o- openness (How much do they tell you about themselves? Do they reveal everything at once or gradually throughout the relationship?)

Pete has this weird tendency of dropping big, important info about himself during otherwise normal activities. Folding laundry? Now you know his blood type. Brushing your teeth in the morning? Did you know he was declared dead for exactly 8 minutes and 12 seconds in 1996? While you never quite used to it, its a pretty fascinating way to learn about someone.

p- PDA (Are they affectionate in public or do they prefer to keep your kisses behind closed doors? Are they the type to brag about their SO?)

He's not much of a kisser overall, but a quick peck here or there while in public doesn't phase him. Its also not uncommon for him to slip an arm around your waist or swing your legs over his while sitting.

q- quality time (how do they like to spend time with you?)

For him, spending time together is less about what you're doing and more so about who you're doing it with. That’s not to say that you two don't get up to some wild stuff together. (No, not like that. Unless...)

r- romance (Are they the romantic type? If so, how do they express their feelings?)

He's not too romantic overall, but he does on occasion like to surprise you with gifts and/or more traditionally romantic things. These gestures tend to be pretty spontaneous.

s- security (How protective are they of you? If they are, how do they show this?)

So. Protective. As much as he personally hates being smothered, he will do just that to you given the chance. He treats you like the most fragile being in the universe. If you are a more daring individual, don't be surprised if he’s shadowing your every move while holding a fully stocked first aid kit. When it comes to protectiveness against unwanted attention, he takes a similar, but approach. You still don't know how he does it, but there’s been more than one occasion of him literally just staring down the person making you uncomfortable until they run off with their tails tucked between their legs.

t- turn-offs (What traits do they find unattractive?)

smothering him, trying to force him to traditionally settle down, etc

u- understanding (Are they good at sympathizing with your problems? Do they listen to you when you need to rant?)

He's the best person to rant to. Not only will he listen to your problems and provide emotional, physical and/or moral support, he'll help you come up with any possible solutions as well. All his life experience makes his advice amazing as well

v- value (What do they value most about your relationship?)

Companionship. Just having someone to come home to every night means the world to him.

w- wild card (A random headcanon about your relationship)

He genuinely gives the greatest massages ever. His hands are strong and steady and so warm and he always knows just where you need his hands most.

x- x-ray (How well are they able to read you?)

Despite his best efforts, Mav can tend to be a bit oblivious to your needs, especially at first. You don't necessarily have to spell it out for him, but if you are particularly well guarded he may miss some things.

y- yearning (How well do they cope when their SO isn't with them?)

The longer you two are together, the harder it becomes for him. Over time it begins to feel like he’s missing pieces of himself when you aren't there.

z- zappy (Are they fast-paced in a relationship? Or do they like to take things slow?)

Once things are official, he feels no need to move fast. He’s perfectly happy to just co-exist with you.
