Number 5 with mat pwease 🥺👉👈
From Valentine’s day prompt: 5. 💐 “You got me flowers? How cliche, I loved it!”
word count: 1.7k + (I got carried away, sorry) 😬
warnings: it’s not proof read lol and it’s angsty but with fluff ending, hope you like it! ❤️
Mat was supposed to be home on Sunday morning, which means he would be able to spend February 14th with you, or so you thought because on Saturday he called to tell you that there was a delay on his flight, and part of the team was stuck in the airport until Monday. It was your first Valentine’s together so of course, you were kinda sad. Since the beginning, you two were very clear with the ‘pains’ of dating an NHLer, but you still wanted to try, and what a great thing you did because although the distance was on somedays almost unbearable, the meeting right after was amazing. And for the first time, you really felt like the saying “absence makes the heart grow fonder” was somehow true.
On Saturday, when he called you -really, voice call, not facetime- you thought he would keep talking, and even tell you he would make up for it -like he did when he missed your Family’s annual barbecue- but Mat just told you what was happening and hung up. He didn’t explain everything, just told you there was a problem, his flight was delayed and that was it. You knew his way of saying ‘I love you’ was telling you to take care, or asking you about your plans for the day, but he did nothing of it during the call and for a second you were afraid he was waiting for Valentine’s day to be over so he could break up with you, but you were quick to shake these thoughts off your head and go on with your day. Taking the opportunity to finish his gift, you wrapped everything carefully and placed a handwritten letter inside, you tried cleaning the house and baking to distract, going as far as watching The Bachelor, but Mathew was the only person able to make it sounds funny. Sighing you unlocked your phone calling someone you knew would know almost exactly how you were feeling.
It took only two rings for her to answer with a cheerful tone and you frowned, “Hey, honeybun!”
“Hi, Syd, you sound excited,” you stated before explaining, “I mean, aren’t you sad?”
“Why would I be sad?”
“For spending Valentine’s without Martin?” you explained, but coming to think about it, you would understand if she wasn’t that shaken by the news, it wasn’t her first Valentine with Matt, they were married, they dated for years, they had the time to get used to distance, but they also had the time to experience the date together first.
“Huh?” she’s puzzled and you can almost picture her pout.
“The team’s flight delay…” what if he didn’t tell her yet!?
“Oooh,” it’s a noise of understanding, “yeah, sucks right?! But I’m sure we’ll see each other on Monday, and so will you and Barzy,” you fell silent and she understood the seconds of silence. “Aw, you’re sad, aren’t you?”
Shrugging you answered, “Are you busy right now?”
“No, I’m completely free for the rest of the night, you should come over, I’m gonna order your favorite and we can eat ice cream with cookies after,” Sydney did the job of being a big sister like no one else, and sometimes you wished to be her sister, you always wondered how it must feel to have siblings, other pieces of your family that fit right with you, that gives you comfort, and joy, but also stress.
“Right, I’ll take the wine. Be there in 15,” you tell her before hanging up.
15 minutes later you were at Sydney’s house venting about your situation with Mathew. She listened to everything and made sure to remind you that he wouldn’t break up with you, there wasn’t any reason to, according to her Mat loved you -even though you told her that he never said these three words-. By 10 pm you were deep into two wine bottles shared with your friend, now trying to watch a random romcom movie that was on TV. Truth is you were typing and deleting a message on your boyfriends chat, but nothing seemed right. What would you tell him? Maybe if you reminded him about the fact that you would spend Valentine’s away he would be feeling guilty, like he was missing out on you again. You typed again, this time sending a simple, “hey, how are things out there?” however the message wasn’t even delivered.
You were confused, but maybe his phone died and he was about to connect? Trying to forget you bought your attention back to the movie, or at least tried harder this time.
When the movie was over you unlocked your phone expecting a message from Mat but you were met with the same chat, the message wasn’t even delivered.
“What’s that you fidgeting since the movie began?” Sydney asks munching a cookie.
“Barzy is not answering my texts,” shifting your position on the couch you sighed. “The messages aren’t even being delivered.”
The blond shrugged and said, “Maybe he’s busy?”
“That never happened before,” you point out, “and it’s 10 pm,” it’s not a good argument, but somehow it made sense in your head. “I’m gonna call him,” it’s your final decision and before Sydney could stop you you tap at his name. It rings nonstop and goes straigth to voice mail.
He never not answered a call from you, unless he was on the ice, and he wasn’t on the ice at 10 pm without being in a game.
“What if something happened with him?” now you worried, it’s almost impossible to swallow the lump forming on your throat.
“Y/n, look at me,” Syd calls, “You’re dealing with a lot together and you’re also missing Mat, but he’s ok, maybe he’s just busy, or his phone is dead, or maybe he’s even gaming with the guys and didn’t notice it ring,” she’s good at reasoning, she also seemed so sure you almost asked if there was something she knew that you don’t, but choosing to just listen, you sight trying to relax your body.
You talk a little more about random topics, you can tell she’s trying to distract you, and right before midnight Syd tells you both of you should rest, she had something to do in the morning -to which she didn’t specified to you- and you would probably have a bosy day too -with what? You did not knew.
When you got home it was silent and dark, empty without Mat and even emptier with the realization he wouldn’t be there in the morning. You drank water and showered to get rid of the alcohol in your body before grabbing one of his shirts to sleep. His smell engulfed you into a deep slumber that was only interrupted in the morning by the buzzing of your door bell.
Groaning you grabbed your robe before making your way to the entrance while cursing. Who could possibly be at your door this early? When you swinged the heavy wood material open you frowned.
“Good morning, there’s a deliver to miss y/n,” he stated with a smile. There was a trolley in front of him with at least 6 or 7 jars of all kind of flowers, some which you didn’t even know the name.
“From who?” you ask, maybe it was Mat?!
“It doesn’t say in here and there’s no card,” the man shrugs and points at the flowers, “where can I put these, miss?”
“These?” you grimace.
“Yeah, all the eight vases are in your name.”
Still stunned you open the door wider and points to the coffee table. It takes him almost five minutes and when he’s done it’s like your whole living room was covered in flowers. They smelled amazing and you ran to your bedroom grabbing your phone, there would be probably a message from Mat with a cue about the vases, but when you unlock the device there’s nothing. You saw he read the messages but there wasn’t any reply. It was past 8 am on a Sunday, he could be sleeping, Mat wasn’t a morning person, you knew it, but still you almost felt sadness poll inside you, but before you were able to give it any space there was another buzz.
“What the hell?” you whispered walking to your entrance again. Maybe the man really got the flowers to the wrong person, there was another y/n at the fourth floor, you knew she was single, but still, maybe she was seeing someone? It wasn’t even five minutes after that man left the flowers at your living room, maybe he bump into the right y/n on his way out?
You swallowed before swinging the door open for the second time that morning, however you were not met with the trolley and the green uniform, but with a black suitcase, a suit and a face covered by another vase of flowers.
“I told him 9 vases, one from each month together, but I believe he forgot one,” you would recognize that husky voice and heavenly fragrance from miles away. “Happy Valetine’s, princess.”
“Oh my goodness,” your voice wobbly. You stressed yourself out the whole night thinking he wanted to break up with you, but he was just planning a surprise. As soon as he lowers the vase on the ground you jump into his arms lacing his waist with your bare legs, and although it’s cold inside Mat’s body is warm against your skin, it makes your shiver and bury your frace in the crook of his neck. How you missed that smell! “I thought you were going to leave me and was trying to let me down gently, omg.”
“I could never leave you, my love,” his voice is gentle and so is his hands caressing your back and hair. You sniff before looking at the flowers in the ground, trying to change the aura. “And you got me flowers!? How cliche, I loved it!” you feel his smile when he kisses your neck, his shoulders sagged in relief with your now happy and usual tone.
“What else do you love?” his question takes you by surprise because by the seriousness in his tone you could only think he was trying to get a point, but before you can rationalize it too much your lips are moving by itself.
“You.”
“That’s good, because I love you too,” he whispers before finally kissing your lips after so long away. It’s sloppy and full of smiles, and tongue and grabbing. Mathew loved you and there wasn’t any better Valentine’s gift than his words.

Toe Pick ~ Jeff Skinner
Hello! Sorry I have kinda been MIA, I’ve had a lot going on personally lately. This idea came to my head though and I could not pass up writing it! I just love the fact that Jeff was a figure skater lol I hope you are all doing well and staying safe and healthy! Enjoy!
Summary: Being partnered with Jeff as a pairs team caused you both to rely on each other at an early age. When life’s ‘toe picks’ come along though, your friendship was tested. And when a toe pick later on throws you back into each others lives, will it be the same?
Warnings: None, just fluff!
Master List
Tumblr media
The toe pick at the front of a figure skater’s blade can either create phenomenal moments in a routine, or can bring a skater down. The sharp points can do some damage, but also give the ability to fly when tapped correctly into the ice. You can often hear figure skaters talk about toe picks, and for two kids in particular, saying “toe pick” when they stumbled became a game. On and off the ice, the two were inseparable. That was, until a ‘toe pick’ in life took them away from one another.
Past ~ 2000
Eight-year-old Jeff Skinner was working on his flying camel, waiting for his coach to get on the ice and start his lesson. It wasn’t just any lesson today though. He was scheduled to meet a new girl who just joined the skating club, one that his coach thought would pair with him perfectly for a pair skating event. Jeff wasn’t so sure about skating with a partner at first, but then after watching a senior skating pair perform, he changed his mind. The throws and different spins that could be done with a skating partner interested him, so he let his coach talk him into it.
He had been told that the new girl had just moved to the area. You were also a single skater with promising talent and a year younger than Jeff. His coach had watched you try out for their skating club, and asked if you would be interested in pairs skating as your showman-like style was almost uncannily the same as Jeff’s. You smiled and nodded, just excited to be accepted into the prestigious club.
As Jeff stopped what he was doing to look at the clock on the wall, he felt someone run into his back. “Sorry! Toe pick,” a giggle came from behind him. He turned and saw a girl about his age, grinning with a missing tooth off to the side. Jeff laughed to himself.
“It’s fine. Are you okay?” he asked. He had never seen you before, and started to think you may be who he was being partnered up with.
“I’m fine! I’m Y/N. I just moved here,” you introduced yourself. Jeff smiled, a toothy grin that matched yours.
“I’m Jeff. Are you skating pairs?” he asked, and you nodded.
“I was singles, but they asked me to switch when I tried out. I don’t know who I’m partnered with though,” you admitted.
“I think you might be my new partner…” was all Jeff was able to say before his coach skated over to the two of you.
“Jeff, I see you’ve already met Y/N. I think you two will get along great. If you’re both warmed up, why don’t we get started with the basics,” Ms. Seale said, and the two young skaters nodded. The next hour was spent learning how to stand and skate in perfect unison, the two kids fitting each other’s speed and style flawlessly, almost as if they were meant to be paired up.
Three years later, you and Jeff were still skating pairs and about to enter your first junior’s national competition. After taking the ice for your groups warm up, the two of you waited off to the side with your coach running back and forth to see where the order of skaters was at. “Don’t drop me,” you leaned into Jeff as you always did before a performance.
“You trust me?” he grinned at you, holding out his pinky.
“Always,” you smiled back, wrapping your pinky around his. Pinky promises became a thing for the two of you when you first started learning lifts. You were nervous, and Jeff promised that he would never drop you. He had always kept that promise, even going as far as breaking your fall with his own body just to keep your trust. Your coach came to get you a few minutes later, and grabbing your hand Jeff led you out onto the ice. You took silver at that competition, the names Jeff Skinner and Y/N Y/L/N becoming known in the competition circuit.
Two years after that, when Jeff was 13 and you were 12, Jeff hurt himself while doing a double axel. The two of you had just won junior nationals and were working on senior level moves. His injury caused you to pull out of an upcoming competition, the both of you devastated. “I’m really sorry Y/N,” Jeff said one evening as the two of you were doing homework together. Being skating partners had drawn the two of you close together on and off the ice. You trusted Jeff with your life, and may have formed a small crush on him over the years.
“It’s okay J. It’s just a toe pick in the plan. You’ll heal and we’ll be back out there before you know it,” you tried to reassure him.
“What if I don’t though?” he asked, worried this injury could be more serious than either of you were thinking.
“Hey, do you trust me?” you asked, holding your pinky out toward him. He grinned and this time wrapped his pinky around yours.
           “Always.”
Unfortunately, the injury Jeff sustained took a while to heal. It also caused him to choose between hockey and figure skating. Jeff didn’t want to give up on you, but he also wanted to pursue hockey. You smiled when he told you and supported him the best you could, even though you went home that day and cried your eyes out. How were you supposed to find a new partner? You and Jeff had been skating together for five years at that point, you didn’t want to start over with someone else. You tried though, and eventually found a partner that was compatible enough to compete with. Jeff would ask you how things were going when you saw each other, and you would always lie, saying things were great when really you couldn’t stand your new partner.
Though the two of you stayed friends for a while, you always going to Jeff’s hockey games and him coming to open skate and competitions for you, you eventually drifted apart when Jeff graduated high school. You couldn’t help but feel like when Jeff traded in his toe picks for hockey skates, he traded you in as well. A few years later you closed the door on your skating career after a particularly bad injury, and the memories were all that was left of the toothless grinning boy you had first met on the ice that one day way back when.
Present Day
Take the job in Buffalo they said, you muttered to yourself as once again your socks were all wet from not wearing the proper foot wear and stepping in a puddle on the way to the rink. It had been years since you skated competitively, now being 27. When you graduated high school, you went to college and earned a degree in media, sticking with sports. You mainly stuck around the figure skating circuit, also finding a job as a coach to put yourself through college. A month ago, a job was offered to you at a local news station in Buffalo as their sports reporter, and you jumped at the opportunity.
When you arrived at the rink, you changed into your tights and leggings. Skating always destressed you, and after settling in to your new place and trying to learn the ropes of the station, you needed some time to unwind. Only a few people were skating, the rink being otherwise deserted as the weather outside wasn’t the kindest at the moment.
Stepping out onto the ice, a relaxed smile spread across your face. You mindlessly curved on your edges, letting muscle memory take over. Ever so briefly did you let your eyes close, basking in the chill of the air and the sounds of your blades carving through the ice. A moment later though, you were pulled out of your head as your blade caught a particularly deep rivet in the ice, causing you to trip forward on your toe pick. With a squeak you were almost ashamed of leaving your mouth, you fell into the back of a stranger. “Oh my God, I am so so sorry! I caught my toe pick and…” you trailed off as the stranger turned around.
“Toe picks can be nasty, no worries,” he smiled at you, then stopped himself. It would have been the perfect romcom meet-cute, if the two of you hadn’t recognized each other in an instant. “Y/N?” Jeff asked, not entirely believing you were this beautiful woman who just collided with him.
“J,” you whispered, shocked as well. “What are you doing here?”
“I play for Buffalo?” he said, smiling but unsure at the moment. You were honestly the last person he expected to see that morning. Your face went red out of embarrassment. Of course you had followed his career; you knew he was in Buffalo but in the haste of your move you forgot.
“I knew that,” you mumbled out, and blushed at his chuckle. Why was it after all these years, you could feel your crush resurfacing the second he smiled at you?
“I’m more curious as to why you’re here?” he asked, leaning on his hockey stick.
“Just moved actually. I’m a sports reporter now for the local Buffalo news,” you smiled at him and Jeff grinned.
“No shit!” he exclaimed, pulling you into a hug. You gladly wrapped your arms around him, feeling at home for once in this new city.
A week had passed and you had talked to Jeff every day of it. What started out as a “How are you settling in?” text, turned into constant messages, a quick phone call, and even a facetime when he was on the road that weekend, with plans made for coffee the following week when he was back.
That coffee turned into lunch, which turned into Jeff taking you around to a few places and now the two of you were at dinner, having spent the whole day together. The two of you were catching up, and easily fell into your younger selves where physical contact wasn’t a big deal because you were constantly holding hands on the ice. It was as if the years had never passed, and you realized your feelings for Jeff had never truly gone away. He would smile at you, and just like that you were seven years old again running into him your first day at the rink. “Are you working Friday night?” Jeff asked as he drove you home that evening.
“No, I’m off actually. Why?” you asked. Jeff cleared his throat, seeming a little nervous about what he was going to say next.
“Would you want to come to my game? I can get you a ticket,” he said, glancing at you quickly. You smiled and nodded.
“I would love to!” you said, a little too enthusiastically but it made Jeff visibly relax. “You don’t have to get me a ticket though. I can buy one.”
“No. It’s the first pro game of mine that you’ll be at, I’m getting you a ticket,” he stated, then added, “Don’t argue with me,” as you opened your mouth to do so.
“Thank you,” was all you said with a giggle. Jeff smiled as you both fell back into an easy conversation.
~ ~ ~
Friday came and you were being shown to your seat at the arena by an attendant. You thanked him and sat down, waiting for the Sabres to take the ice. Looking around, you twiddled your thumbs at being right up against the glass. What did Jeff do to get you this seat? Before you could second guess coming though, the team took the ice and you immediately found your old skating partner. A few minutes later he locked eyes with you and skated over with a big grin. He tugged on his jersey and pointed at you as you smiled back at him. You had bought a Sabres’ jersey for the occasion, Jeff spotting the 53. Nodding, you turned around slightly to show him the “Skinner” across the back. If Jeff’s grin could get any larger, it would have split his face. Seeing you there at his game, in his jersey, after all these years brought back all the feelings of being young with you; leaning on you; putting his whole trust in you. The Sabres may be his current teammates, but you would always be his first teammate; his first crush; his first love.
The game was a tough one, the Sabres barely pulling out a win. You were so relieved when the final buzzard sounded. Jeff had asked you to meet him outside the locker room earlier that day, so you made your way there. Standing off to the side, you watched some of the guys spill out to their loved ones, smiling at how familiar it all felt. You remembered in high school when you used to wait for Jeff after his games with his parents.
A couple minutes later you spotted the slightly curly hair of the man you had grown up with. He grinned as he spotted you, and lifted you into a big bear hug once he got to you. “Congrats J! Good game,” you said into his neck before he set you down.
“I’m so glad you came,” he said softly, and you blushed under his gaze. “I’m glad you moved here,” he whispered.
“Me too,” you said under your breath. Jeff was about to say something when your moment was interrupted.
“You must be the old figure skating partner Jeff won’t shut up about,” the Sabres’ captain Jack Eichel patted Jeff’s shoulder and extended his hand to you.
“That would be me. Hope it was positive,” you tried to hide your nerves with a joke. Jeff rolled his eyes.
“Trust me?” he held out his pinky to you like he would when you were younger.
“Always,” you responded automatically as Jack looked on amused.
~ ~ ~
After that evening, you went to all of Jeff’s home games that you could. The two of you were also together all the time, practically spending every free moment with each other. Two months later you were curled up into Jeff as you watched a movie at his apartment. You weren’t together, but it was obvious to everyone around you that the feelings were there. Since you were used to being physically close to him, many thought you were already together. The both of you would awkwardly laugh those comments off.
As the movie credits rolled, you sat up and looked at the time, realizing you should probably get home as it was almost midnight. You started to unwrap yourself from the blanket on top of you when Jeff spoke up. “Don’t go,” he whispered.
“It’s late J,” you laughed lowly.
“Exactly. Stay,” he smiled softly, but had a serious look in his eyes. “I hate saying goodbye to you.”
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” you smiled, slightly confused by what he said. Jeff shook his head and sat up.
“That’s not entirely what I meant,” he rubbed the back of his neck with one hand as you took his other hand in yours.
“Then how did you mean it?” you asked, keeping your eyes on his. Jeff sucked in his lips, looking at you thoughtfully.
“I’ve always felt bad for choosing hockey over you; over being your partner. I felt terrible when you got hurt and I wasn’t around to stop it from happening. When we lost touch, there wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t think of reaching out to you, but didn’t cause I was worried it was too late. And now you’re here, and back in my life and I don’t want to make those same mistakes all over again,” he said. You squeezed his hand.
“I hope you know I don’t blame you for any of that Jeff. You had to do what was best for you, and I’m so proud of you. Life just dealt us some…”
“Toe picks?” he interjected causing you to laugh.
“Yeah, some toe picks,” you said softly. The two of you sat in comfortable silence, letting his words sink in. “I don’t want to lose you again either,” you whispered, and Jeff sent you a smile that made your heart flutter. Slowly, you both leaned in closer to each other, your lips finally meeting. It was everything you ever thought kissing Jeff would be like, and so much more. As you separated, you both had the largest smiles on your faces. Slowly, Jeff stood up and pulled you along with him.
“Do you trust me?” he asked, sweeping a piece of hair behind your ear. This time you knew Jeff wasn’t teasing when he said those words, he wasn’t just asking because you were worried about him dropping you, but asking because your relationship was about to dive into uncharted territory, and he knew that it would change everything. Though, then maybe it wouldn’t. Being “together” was simple because you had skated together for so long.
Taking his hand, you nodded. “Always,” you said, meaning it with every fiber of your being. Jeff smiled that brilliant, infectious smile at you, and led you to down the hall to his room. That night you both fell asleep tangle up with each other, and completely in love with this figure skating boy turned hockey player that you had known for what felt like eternity.

“Flynn, just trust me okay?”
Flynn said nothing as she fell back on the tour bus's couch, for a single second the tiniest smirk was painted across her lips.
“Who are you doing this for exactly?” She got cozy, looking at me from where I stood against the kitchen tops.
“The band,” I nodded, trying my best to keep my voice natural as I lie through my teeth.
“Maybe a bassist in particular?” Flynn laughed when I rolled my eyes, turning back to the open cupboard and looking through the never ending rows of snacks.
“Just thought-”
“I’ll give the driver the address,” Flynn pushed off the cushions and walked behind me, placing her chin on my shoulder for a second, “just hurry up and tell him before the tour is over.”
I smiled slightly at Flynn, the address of the fair pulled up on her phone as she skipped to tell the driver. I played with one of the boxes in front of me, completely zoned out as I watched her back.
How would I just tell him?
The truth was Reggie deserved more than a simple confession, he deserved something crazy you would only hear about in a romcom or even bigger. I didn’t know what I was thinking, maybe I was hoping to see if confessing was even a good idea.
“Whatcha thinking?”
I jumped at how close the voice was, spinning around to find myself face to face with the boy in question. He had a goofy smile on his face and held his hands behind his back while rocking back and front.
“Reg,” I let his name roll off the tongue, letting my breathing return to normal as I calmed my nerves from the little jump scare.
“Sorry, you zoned out I got worried.”
I can have a delicate smile, trying my best. best to remind me he was only a boy. A really cute boy.
“I’m fine, trying to work on some new designs for merchandise,” I shrugged, his smile soft as his eyes seemed to roam my face. I tried not to think much of it, maybe it was nothing, but he always looked at me like I meant something.
“Any good ideas?” He didn’t say anything else as he reached over me, looking at the snacks behind me while trapping me to the counter. His soft scent of lavender and cedarwood was odd but comforting as he had started using my perfume when he would go on stage, claiming it was lucky.
“I-uhm- '' my brain refused to use words, the idea of novelty items barely on the tip of my tongue as I rambled. I didn’t even know what I was saying to be honest, but Reggie smiled and nodded like I had done something right and that was enough for me.
“People will have flannels with my face on it? That’s awesome!” He jumped on his feet slightly, smiling like a puppy dog at the idea.
“I thought you’d like it, and your face would only be on the pocket,” I pointed at him, making sure this didn’t get to his head.
“I don’t even care, if you had told me this in 95 I wouldn't have believed you!”
He spun slightly, moving to the couch Flynn was laying on a little while ago, a Poptart held in between his fingers as he swung around slightly.
“I’m proud of how far you’ve come,” I shrugged. I didn’t think much of my words but when Reggie spun to look at me thought it over.
He looked so emotional, his eyes searching my face as if I told him he won the Nobel Peace Prize. I took the time to take him in, the look he was giving me was something I would never want to forget.
“You’re proud of me?”
“Of course, you’ve come so far and-” my words were cut off, arms around my frame in seconds and all I could smell was Reggie. All I could think was Reggie. I was all Reggie.
I lifted my fingers, playing with the black shirt he wore while he drew shapes on my arm.
“Thank you,” he muttered softly, his voice sounded far away as we stood in the kitchen.
“Anytime Reg.”
The silence that followed was nice, something I enjoyed deeply as I felt his arm grow tired around me.
“I need to say something,” Reggie pulled back just enough for me to see his face, the hard light from outside made his look like he was glowing almost.
“What-”
“Is that the last Poptrat?”
I push off Reggie, my hands find the countertop behind me as I tried my best to not look so caught. I frowned when I noticed Luke’s smirk, his eyes looking between Reggie and I while his finger pointed to the Poptrat that Reggie held in his hand.
“I-uhm- it’s the last Strawberry-” Reggie tripped over his words, suddenly letting the Poptrat fall from his finger before he reached out to grab it.
“You gonna eat it?” Luke slowly crossed his arms, his muscle tee making his arm look large and intimidating as he looked between us both.
“Oh uhm-” Without another word Reggie crammed the Poptrat into his mouth, a nervous laugh fell from his lips and he smiled at Luke. I covered my mouth, doing my best to hide my little giggles as the two bickers, something we had all grown to use too.
“Well, guess we have to get some when we stop,” Luke snapped, his smirk only growing when he saw me glide my thumb over my neck, begging him to shut up just for once.
“When are we stopping?” I was in shock to see Reggie and pretty much already finished the Poptrat but said nothing about it.
“A few minutes, (Y/N) here had a plan.”
I suddenly felt stuck and Reggie turned to look at me, his eyes scanning my own for answers as my brain broke. I forgot everything, what even was my name anymore?
“I need to find Alex and Julie,” the words came out rushed, I didn’t even wait for Luke or Reggie to answer before I was slipping out of the tension filled room to the back where we slept.
My feet were working faster than my brain, carrying me away from Luke’s cursed situation. Why did he always have to do that?
I really was starting to hate Luke Patterson.
“(Y/N)!”
I jumped, my hand over my heart again and I swear I was going to put cow bells on everyone before the last venue in a few weeks.
“Julie!” I did my best to match her excitement but I could tell she saw right through me.
“Where is this place you taking us?”
“Surprise?” I did my best jazz hands, an awkward smile on my lips as I tried to escape everyone for a minute. This whole crush thing was so overwhelming.
“Spill,” she grabbed my upper arm, not thinking twice as we slipped into the nearby bathroom and shut the door. Julie leaned against the door, the small space only has so much room as I sat on the top of the toilet.
“It was a surprise for Reg,” I shrugged, trying not to make eye contact with Julie as I played with one of the rings on my fingers. Flynn got it for me at a cheap store that was supposed to be a mood ring but it never moved from the deep blue.
“Is it his birthday? Did I forget again?” Julie started to panic but I grabbed the end of her sweater to stop her.
“No, it’s this one star fair I found on the internet.”
“A one star fair?”
“I know I was shocked when I found it, apparently it just open so it doesn’t have a lot of reviews-”
“How are you both so in love?” Julie almost laughed at my rambling, her smile bright as she looked at me and talked with my hand.
“Don’t use the “L” words, but yeah I have a crush on him. I just thought it would be funny,” I held my headrest on the wall behind me.
I shouldn’t have thought of this plan. This might be the worst idea I’ve had in a while.
“It’s cute,” Julie smiled sweetly at me, something I was grateful for.
“It’s not stupid?” I looked up at her, my knee almost knocking her as we seemed to draw closer with each word.
“Of course not!” Julie reached out for my hand, which I obviously let her take. She gave the slightest smile, my own smile meeting my lips before a loud banging on the bathroom door took our moment.
“I have to pee!” Alex’s voice echoed through the crowded bathroom.
*
Reggie almost fell from the tour bus, a little death glare over his shoulder at Flynn who didn’t look to feel bad for her little shove. He was stalling and it was starting to send me in a panic, as I rocked on my heels in front of the fair with a nervous smile.
Once Reggie stopped looking at Flynn to me, his face fell for a second. I did awkward jazz hands, hoping I didn’t blow this joke out of the water and I now looked stupid. Reggie read the sign above my head, his head tilted but a little smile was now painted on his lips.
“What’s this?”
“A one-star fair?” It came out as more of a question and I hoped I wasn’t digging this hole even deeper. The smile that once painted his face grew, his feet took off until he was in front of me and wrapping his head around me.
I fell back slightly at the force but smiled nonetheless, happy that I had chosen the right place for our break. I let my arms wrap around the back of his next, playing with the hair on the nape of his neck and I couldn’t imagine a world without him in it.
I looked over his shoulder, rolling my eyes and Alex and Luke made kissy faces and Flynn turned and rubbed her hand over her back as if she was kissing someone. My friends were middle schoolers.
“I love it,” Reggie whispered in my ear before he pulled back, his eyes going back to the sign above my head before he grabbed my hand and turned over his shoulder.
“Race ya to the bumper cars!”
Without another word, Reggie was almost pulling me behind me as we raced into the fair. My legs were slightly burning and my throat felt sore from laughing but I couldn’t bring myself to care as Reggie rushed around different obstacles. The workers looked annoyed at us as we rushed around them, our laugh probably way too loud for this time in the evening but I couldn't care as I looked over my shoulder to find Alex and Flynn holding hands and pracing like they belonged in the Sound of Music. Reggie came to a stop, my body colliding into his back.
“We won!”
He jumped around, I tried my best to ignore the feeling of his fingers wrapped in mine. It felt so normal, like it was meant to be glued together for an art project.
“Because you ran like Lighting McQueen,” Flynn commented, giving Reggie while squeezing my arm.
“Who’s that again?” Reggie turned to me, his eyebrows raised as he waited for my answer but it never came. Instead a laugh bubbled out the back of my throat, looking at his confused face was making it worse.
“I thought you were on my team!”
“I am,” I did my best to defend myself but my laughing only grew louder the longer we stood there.
“Where’s Julie and Luke?”
“Getting passes,” Alex pointed over his shoulder, his eyes looking at me and he quickly sent a wink. Did everyone know about my plan?
“Until then, (Y/N) and I will walk around.”
I nodded, smiling at Reggie while I waved at Flynn and Alex. The two gave me a thumbs up and I was grateful Reggie didn’t decide to turn around in that moment.
“You didn’t have to do this, you know?”
I looked back at him, smiling as I still felt our hands together. He hadn’t let go yet.
“I wanted to, since you planned the diner,” I shrugged, as if I didn’t seem almost a week planning and searching to find a place that was five star that I didn’t think would kill us.
“Well thank you, the bus was starting to get stuffy with everyone.”
I nodded, understanding exactly what he meant. I loved the band, they were everything to me, but it’s hard living on a bus with them. Flynn and I lived in a studio apartment together and that became a lot at times, although the fans loved the content they got because of us living together.
I spotted Julie waving at us, I excused myself from Reggie and walked to her. She smiled at me, holding passes in her hand that were obviously made for some cheap car-stock paper, which I felt add to the vibe of the entire park. It had a few basic rides and a bunch of rigged games, with the oldest looking Ferris Wheel in the world.
“Does he look happy?” I asked Julie as soon as I got close enough, taking the passes from her out of reach and looking over my shoulder. As soon as I did he waved at me, going back to looking at the sky.
“Yes, very. He’d be happy if you dug him a hole with nothing in it,” Julie shrugged, squeezing my shoulder.
“I think I’m gonna tell him,” I spoke, a little smile playing on my lips as Julie smirked.
“I would hope you didn’t drag us out here for nothing to happen.”
I rolled my eyes, walking backwards to Reggie as I stuck my tongue out at her, which she returned. Once I knew I was growing closer I turned around, handing Reggie one of the passes with a smile.
“What’s first on the agenda?” I looked up at him, smiling when he gave me that look. The same look from the hotel and the diner, like I meant something.
“I have to win you a stuffed animal, I’d be a horrible person if I didn’t!”
He didn’t wait for me this time, walking to the nearest rigged game and flashing the pass at the guy. The boy behind the counter seemed bored, barely giving us a glance before handing Reggie the darts.
“Are you sure this is a good idea?”
“Totally,” he brushed me off, closing his left eye and sticking his tough out the side of his mouth. I watched him and admired him more so.
The sun was about to set behind him, casting the prettiest glow across his hair and his features. He looked so consistent and his eyebrows raised to his hairline. He looked like something out of a romcom, where the girl realizes it has always been the boy in front of her.
He threw the dart, completely missing the board and falling to the grow. I watched the boy cover his mouth, hiding a laugh and I frown. I didn’t waste time, reaching for one of Reggie’s darts and quickly aiming at the dart board. I toned out all the noise, quickly throwing the dart and making it in the center. I smirked, looking at the boy with an innocent smile.
“I win, right?”
“Uhm, yeah,” he turned around and took the dart out of the board, taking the other dart from in front of Reggie and turning back to me. I looked over the stuffed animals, my eyes landing on one of a small brown horse. I pointed at that one, not saying a word as I watched him pull it down without hesitation.
As soon as the horse was placed in my palm the boy went back to his phone, ignoring Reggie and I. I finally looked at Reggie, his eyes still trained on the dart board with his jaw hanging. He turned back to me, his smile reaching his lips again as he jumped up and down.
“That was amazing!”
I grabbed one of his wrists, his hand held open in front of me as I placed the horse in the center of his hand.
“Now you have a horse,” I shrugged, thinking back to the conversation from the diner with a little smile. He looked between the horse and I, the smile only kept growing and I felt myself jump within myself.
I was going to tell him. I was going to tell him that I was completely whipped for him no matter the place or time. No matter if it was a one star or five star hotel, I wanted Reggie Peters at my side.
As my mouth opened to speak I heard loud screaming, turning around to find the front of the gate was full of girls and boys alike, each had shirts with Julie and the Phantom plaster on the front.
“Crap,” I grabbed Reggie’s wrist, ducking behind a display as I looked around for everyone else. I saw Luke wave at us, everyone climbing onto the Ferrie’s Wheel. I pointed to him, Reggie getting my idea as we jumped from display to display.
We got caught.
Once we got close enough to the Ferris Wheel we made a dart for it, smiling when Luke held an empty container for us, both of us jumping in and sitting on the floor instead of the seats. Luke quickly joined the other, waving the worker to start the machine. I smiled when I heard the loud creek, now this was definitely an adventure.
“Taylor didn’t like that,” Reggie held up the horse for me slightly, laughing when I rolled my eyes.
“Did you name your horse after Taylor Swift?”
“I plead the fifth!”
I laughed harder but my laughs were replaced with yelps as the machine started rocking, not in a fun way either. I leaned into Reggie's side without thinking but he said nothing, letting his arm wrap around my shoulder to keep me at his side. I felt myself chew at my bottom, wondering what would have happened if the fan didn’t come.
“Thank you, I know we didn’t get to hang out before we got busted but it means alot.”
I nodded against his chest, looking up at the cotton candy pink skies above us as the machine started up again. I felt Reggie’s head move, most likely looking up at what I was looking at.
“It was nothing.”
“It was everything (Y/N), you are everything,” his words were soft against my ear, this breath hot over the cool breeze that washed over my face. I didn’t want to look him in the eye, I didn’t think I could handle it but his finger grabbed my chin and I didn’t have a choice.
His nose brushed against mine, his face so close I couldn’t imagine this would ever happen. He looked so innocent and perfect and I just felt myself leaning in until the container door was ripped open, one of the bodyguards from the bus stood above us.
Reggie and I broke from each other, his horse falling between us as my side rushed into the metal seat. I felt the embarrassment overtake my body, this body guard looked sorry but also told us he would be escorting us from the fair.
I nodded, letting Reggie get out first as I sat in self-pity for a second while rubbing my hand over my face.
Maybe I shouldn’t sign up for any more one-star events.

“Happy Birthday” BB
**
Hey guys! So I know Brock’s birthday was yesterday but I had a midterm this morning so I couldn’t write till today. As always, this is completely made up! I didn’t proof read, so be patient with me.**
Warnings: light mention of smut
** “Good morning, birthday boy” you more or less screech at Brock the moment you see his eyes blink open just after 9am. **
“Good morning” he yawned, rubbing his eyes. You sat down next to where he nestled under the covers and leaned down to give him a kiss.  You love birthdays, any reason to bake a cake, buy things, have a party and celebrate is right up your alley. Unfortunately, this year there would be no crazy night out in downtown Vancouver, but that didn’t mean you weren’t going to do everything you could to make your boyfriend’s day special. His team has a game tonight so you guys had made a plan to celebrate the next day, an off day, but you couldn’t resist celebrating on the actual day as well. You’d set an early alarm for morning, as a couple you guys were usually up on the early side, but you wanted to make sure you got up even earlier so you could bake Brock’s favourite chocolate chip banana bread and make him a coffee to surprise him with when he woke up.
“I made you banana bread for your birthday breakfast” you whispered in his ear, gesturing towards the bedside table where you had placed a few slices of banana bread and two hot cups of coffee.
“I thought we were gonna do my birthday tomorrow.”
“Who said we can’t celebrate today, too?” You playfully tapped the tip of his nose. Brock shrugged and pushed up into a seated position, back resting on the headboard, so you could hand him a cup.
“Thank you, y/n” he said, taking a sip. You grabbed your coffee as well and adjusted yourself so you were sitting next to Brock, leaning back against the headboard as well.
“Ok so,” you inhaled, getting a breath so you could recite your birthday plans for him, “we’re going to eat, then let’s take the dogs out and get more coffee, then we can watch a movie or something before your nap and then I have something for you tonight” you winked at him. The something was a bodysuit you’d picked up at Victoria’s Secret while Brock was at practice yesterday. Brock wasn’t a guy that cared if you got dressed up for him or not, constantly insisting you were just as, if not more, beautiful naked or in PJs but you wanted to spice it up for him, especially on his birthday.
“What’s the surprise?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
“You’ll see when you get home.”
“Is it a puppy?”
You laughed, “yes, Brock. I got you a puppy.” He grinned at you and rested his head on your shoulder.
“We really don’t need another puppy” he gestured to Coolie and Milo, who were spread out on their huge beds that took up half the floor.
“Milo is enough of a puppy.” Milo is a handful, always wanting to play, chewing the furniture, biting at Coolie, and whining at the door even after being outside multiple times. At his name, Milo jumped up and rested his face on the edge of the bed, tail wagging.
“I guess that’s our queue” Brock chuckled, throwing his legs over the side of the best to get up. You hummed in agreement and got up as well, time for a dog walk.
After a relaxing walk, well, as relaxing as Milo would allow, you and Brock settled on the couch with acai bowls for lunch and Gossip Girl, as per his request, on the TV.
“What time do you think you’ll be home tonight?” you ask around a bite of granola. Brock’s game day routine had been pretty standard the whole time you’d known him but with the protocols and new way of doing media he was getting home anywhere between 10 and 11:30pm after games.
“Depends on how it goes and if I’m doing post-games” he shrugs, “got something you have to do?”
“No” you replied, smirking at him.
“I’ll text you.”
“Perfect.” After finishing up lunch and a few too many episodes of Gossip Girl, Brock got up.
“Nap time” he held his hand out, “you should nap with me.”
“Fine, but only because it’s your birthday” you conceded, taking the hand he offered and following him into the bedroom. You weren’t much for naps, sleeping in the middle of the day felt wrong and often let you groggy, but if he wanted to nap together today, you would do it.
You dozed a little, but not really. It felt like days had passed when Brock’s phone went off and he untangled himself from you. You watched him get ready and then kissed him goodbye as he went off to the rink. After closing the door you got to work. You melted chocolate to dip strawberries into, baked a cake, had dinner, walked and fed the dogs, showered, and got into your new lingerie all while the Canucks game played on your TV. You lit candles in the bedroom, so they would be dripping when it was time and set up the chocolate fondue. By the time you had everything ready the game-ending buzzer sounded and you began to watch your phone for Brock’s promised post-game text. The game had been a bit of a bust, a three-nothing shutout in favour of the Oilers, but whatever, that would slip Brock’s mind the moment he got home.
You idly watched your phone, waiting for his text, but by 10:15 it still hadn’t come. Brock had probably forgotten he was supposed to text you which wasn’t an uncommon occurrence, he was often guilty of forgetting small things. You’d been wearing nothing but lingerie, so you threw on a hoodie to keep you warm. Another five minutes passed by and then the front door opened and Brock entered. He shucked off his shoes and coat with a huff, greeting the dogs with a pat on the head instead of the usually enthusiastic hugs they were used to.
“Hey” you greeted, a little wary. He seemed pissed, probably an overflow from the game.
“Hey” he walked over to the fridge, grabbing a protein shake and popping it open.
“You forgot to text me” you teased. You had meant it as a joke, but at your words he tensed up.
“Sorry” he snapped, “I was a little busy getting my ass hung up by the fucking Oilers.”
“I thought you played well” you tried to reassure him. You hadn’t watched the whole game, but what you had watched looked good.
“It doesn’t matter what you thought, we still got shutout.” He drained the last of his protein shake and the plastic bottle into the sink. Brock’s words stung a little bit. Of course your opinion doesn’t turn the loss into a win, but it wasn’t very nice of him to say your opinion didn’t matter. It also hurt that he had forgotten that you had promised a surprise. There was no point arguing though, he would cool-down and you’d get to have birthday sex, just maybe not tonight. You returned to where you’d been sitting on the couch and patted the seat beside you, beckoning one of the dogs to jump up. Sure enough, Coolie hopped up and cuddled into your side.
“Your dad is in a mood” you informed Coolie, speaking as if he could understand you. You heard Brock scoff from the kitchen. You ignored him in favour of scratching Coolie behind the ears.
“Baby” you were completely preoccupied with loving the dog when you heard Brock call out. “You did this?” He was obviously referring to your bedroom, set up like a scene from a romcom. You got up and joined him in the bedroom.
“Yeah” you admitted, “I thought we could have a little fun.”
“Fuck, I love it” he exclaimed, wrapping his arms around you, “and I love you.”
“Reach under my sweater” you instructed, wanting to guide him towards his surprise. He complied and you felt his arm snake up under the hoodie and grab hold of one of the straps connecting your bra and panties.
“Oh my god” he breathed.
“Happy birthday” you whispered, placing your lips on his.
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed it:)

Gift Exchange
Tumblr media
A/N: I actually already shared this for a gift exchange, so this is dedicated to @olsenholic, I'm really glad that you liked it when I was able to share it!! Happy Holidays everyone!
Summary: It was supposed to be a simple gift exchange, but well nothing goes to plan when you’re crushing on your boss and finding out he feels the same.
Pairing: Hawks x Reader
Word Count: 2,043
«────── « ⋅ʚ♡ɞ⋅ » ──────»
It hasn’t been very long since you’d started here. Everyone seemed to be nice, you liked it here. It was weird though. Sometimes you’d never see your boss. In fact you thought the first time you saw him was when that U.A student came by as his intern, then again for work studies. You knew he taught him that he could fly with his quirk. You could sense it actually. So it was weird when by the time December rolled around he just announced that you all would be participating in a gift exchange. “It’s supposed to promote team unity.” You remembered him saying. ‘But just why… Why did he also have to participate?’ It wasn’t weird but you did just start and oh god how on earth were you supposed to know what he even liked? Since starting at Hawks Agency you had seen him a total of 5 times, and that was when he was with the U.A. student. Tsukuyomi was his hero name if you remembered correctly. Other than that it had been a long time since you’d seen him at all since you started. Even the work studies had passed. Whatever you knew was essentially what your coworkers would complain tell you in passing. “He sometimes skips out on the paperwork” or “He works too fast for anyone to keep up with him” or even “He likes food, there’s never a moment I don’t see him spoiling himself with something to eat.” and that’s just embarrassing. Only knowing his work ethic and that he likes food to an abnormal degree (according to your coworkers at least). Well the other thing you knew would be that Hawks ‘Hes really handsome.’ That was your first thought when you saw him for the first time. Before you even started working you knew he was handsome. And now you had to get a gift for him (and preferably get him while he was alone or something because you just didn’t want anyone to know). He was hard to get alone though, so you had to be smart when you figured out what to get him.
“Did you hear Hawks say hes a huge fan of Endeavor?” You heard a coworker ask someone. Your ears perked up. “Turns out our boss loved him as a kid!” Loved him? Endeavor himself was… well in your opinion a giant asshole. You’d actually applied to work at his agency at first, thinking you would fit in well but… your application was rejected on the basis of someone else had filled the minor position. But you felt it was slightly because of your quirk being weak in comparison. Even though you’d mainly be helping with the paperwork not the hero work itself. But you were kind of grateful, it gave you a slight change of pace you supposed. Hawks was overall fast, he didn’t like doing his paperwork sometimes (or he procrastinated), when he was present he would attempt to spoil his employees with food and ensure good benefits, he made sure his employees were comfortable in their working environment. Hawks might have everything related to Endeavor already but it wouldn’t hurt to try and get him something related to the flame hero.
You actually did find something related to Endeavor eventually. It took ages to actually find. It was a recording of his own time at U.A. During his first sports festival. U.A. thankfully wasn’t secretive when in reference to the Sports Festival. You remembered watching the recent one on the news. One kid really freaked you out actually, because he fought Endeavors kid and absolutely annihilated his own arm when fighting. But actually finding one from Endeavors time? One that actually showed him? An absolute miracle that you were able to save it. One you were going to take full advantage of.
The day to actually exchange gifts came up pretty quick afterwards. He wasn’t there when everything began. Which internally made you want to scream. At this rate you’d have to give him his gift in person. What was even weirder was you hadn’t even gotten your gift either. God you kinda hoped that he didn’t get your name too. That’d be a little awkward. Would it? Getting a gift from your boss for a random gift exchange. Almost like you were meant to be. You shook the thought away. Meant to be? That's a fairytale.
«────── « ⋅ʚ♡ɞ⋅ » ──────»
When he brought up the idea for a gift exchange, he didn’t think too much of it at first. Then he actually got a name. How he forgot that he threw his own name in there amazed him. A name of an employee who worked at his agency, not even one who was provided by the Hero Commission. Just hired on what kind of felt like a whim. You were efficient, a hard worker. He knew you were one because you applied for Endeavors agency before his, and well if you knew you could handle Endeavors temperament you could definitely handle working at his agency. You were… how could he even put it? You were really good at your job, you didn’t complain, you listened and it seems like you really enjoy working at his agency. Which was a plus for him, because despite him wanting to avoid paperwork and not spending much time at his agency itself, he actually really enjoyed everything having to do with it. He liked being able to make sure his employees have a good pay, good benefits and well good everything. He didn’t want anyone to ever deal with what he did in any point of their lives. Finding out what you liked was really simple actually. He snooped listened, and paid attention whenever you were even slightly mentioned. He also maybe sort of looked up anything he could about you. It wasn’t very hard to do so, but it was hard making sure no one knew it was him doing anything related to you. He was the Number 2 Hero, and while it came with perks, it also came with certain dangers as well. He didn’t want his employee targeted for anything (although he highly doubted that the League would actually go after you for anything, he was good at his job thank you very much and there was no way they could actually find one of his cute efficient employees). You were kind, efficient, beautiful, knowledgeable and he just had to get your name for the gift exchange. He didn’t know who got whos name but he would’ve hoped it would’ve been obvious who got him. Unfortunately, for him all of them were stone faced when they picked up the names. Even you. But it would be sort of… romantic if you also got his name wouldn’t it? Like you two were meant to be? No no. He didn’t. He couldn’t be interested in one of his employees. But damn did you fall into his category of attractive. He was able to find a suitable gift just before he had to give it to you at a really good time for him. Now all he had to do was make sure that you’d be alone.
Turns out, its really difficult to get someone alone. His other employees crowded him, and you seemed to just stay away from him. But no one gave him a gift yet either. God he sort of hoped it was you. His palms felt a little sweaty, his heartbeat was a tad out of control. Was it like that because he liked you? Or was it because he wanted to leave? He took the safe route of leaving just in case, sneaking away from everyone. He didn’t even notice that you were following him.
«────── « ⋅ʚ♡ɞ⋅ » ──────»
Hawks was leaving! This was your chance! You quickly made your escape to catch up to him and give him the gift. No one stopped you, thank god no one noticed you at all. It didn’t even look like he noticed you! Perfect! Turns out you have a huge crush on your boss, no biggy you’d just bury all of your feelings and ignore everything perfectly fine and dandy. How did you even find out? Well turns out already listening in for information about your boss and getting excited about giving him a very personal slightly personal gift, your heart beating out of your chest and having sweaty palms all equated to you feeling excited to see him know it’s you, you’re his secret santa. You weren’t even paying attention when he stopped walking, then suddenly you were slammed against a wall, and Hawks was in your personal space. He looked angry for a split second but then he backed away almost embarrassed.
“Haha, sorry kid. Felt that I was being followed and well, it never hurts to be cautious.” He said and you let out an awkward laugh.
“Its alright, sir.” You said, biting your lip. You didn’t notice how his gaze flickered there for a split second. “Ah, well I understand you left to get some alone time but uh, well…” you trailed off, reaching into your coat pocket and pulling out the CD. “Merry Christmas, sir. I was uh, well your Secret Santa. He looked at you shocked and gave a little laugh.
“So you were my Secret Santa?” He smiled at you. As you gave a nod to answer his question. “That's really somethin.” He said, reaching out to grab the gift.
“Well, uh. That was all, sir! I hope you enjoy it!” You said awkwardly, moving to go away from him but he stopped you by grabbing your arm.
“Ya’know, it’s real funny you had me, kid.” He said, and you gave him an anxious look. You weren’t scared but you didn’t want to intrude on him. He sighed and gave a small smile. “I actually had you too.” Everything sort of just stopped. Your boss had your name for this? What kind of Romcom nonsense? You looked up to avoid his gaze, you did not want your boss to notice how flustered you got from him grabbing your arm, your eyes slightly widened. Was that a… and it was. A mistletoe was just there above your heads and you felt like your face was giving away everything in that moment. Hawks looked a bit shocked at your expression, then immediately looked up and also… saw… the mistletoe. Fuck. His arm moved, wrapping around your waist, his hand let go of your arm, and he just looked at you. “I stayed awake owl night thinking about you.” It took a minute to even register what he said, and you just started laughing.
“Owl night?” You giggled. “Bird puns, sir?”
“You looked a little panicked, kid. Give me a break here.” He said, grinning at your relaxed expression. “So. Secret Santa.” He said, the playful gleam still in his eyes. “Can we honor a tradition?”
You give him a nod and it was all he needed before giving you a tentative kiss, like he was unsure of himself. It wasn’t even that long before he pulled away, his cheeks slightly dark at the dazed expression you were giving him. You pulled him in for another kiss. This holiday was much better than any other one you’d ever experienced. You even got to experience a kiss under a mistletoe.
«────── « ⋅ʚ♡ɞ⋅ » ──────»
Hawks wasn’t your boss for long after that kiss gift exchange. He wanted to actually see you. Like romantically. And well, you really really wanted to give it a shot too. And you didn’t regret a single thing after that. Four years down the line already, you were in a relationship you never thought would ever happen, you knew his name. Kegio. Your heart still fluttered whenever you two would spend time together, and tonight you knew he had something planned. (Of course it didn’t register to you until much later that it was the anniversary of your first kiss with him, and he was a hopeless romantic) You just didn’t know it would involve you being able to take his last name. So when he asked, of course you said yes.

The Royal Holiday Romance (Liam x MC)
PART ONE
Tumblr media
A/N: ..... Okay but hear me out. I sat down to finish my two ongoing series and this is what came out instead. It’s not my fault really. This is going to be a short series (about 4 parts me thinks) and it’s going to be cheesy and fluffy, wintery, Christmassy and very Hallmark-y (I watched too many Hallmark romcoms and this is the result).
A/N 2: This has nothing to do with the canon but the characters belong to Pixelberry.

“Wow.”
“Impressive, isn’t it?”
Victoria looked at the scenery in front of her, still not believing her eyes.
“It looks like I’ve just walked into a Hallmark movie set,” she admitted staring at the white wonderland. Her friend chuckled.
“It does look like that a bit. But Cordonia is always so mesmerizing this time of the year. Truly magical. You’ve never been here?”
“No. This is my first time here, and in Europe in general. And you?”
“A few times. I used to come here for winter holidays with my parents many years ago. The last time I visited Cordonia was three years ago when we were filming The Crown and the Flame. We spent a few months here and we were even invited to a dinner with the King and the Queen.”
“Seriously?!”
“Mhm.” Hana nodded slightly. “It was a very important movie for all Cordonians as it was about their beloved and legendary Queen Kenna Rys.”
Victoria sighed in admiration. Hana Lee was one of the most popular and talented actresses in the world. She was nominated to Oscars at least three times and ate dinner with the King and the Queen of Cordonia. And now she was standing next to Victoria Brooks, novice actress, in a snowy Cordonia and talking to her as if they were best friends, not just co-stars.
Victoria realized how lucky she was to be starring alongside someone like Hana. Great actress and even greater personality. No wonder she was so loved by many. And even though she was only playing Hana’s character’s sidekick, she was grateful for the opportunities that came with it.
~~~~
“Liam!!! You have to see this!”
Liam turned to see his friend Maxwell running into the office with a phone in his hand. “Look!”
“Maxwell, I can’t see anything if your phone is so close to my face. What’s happening?”
“Hana Lee is here! The Hana Lee! They’re filming a Christmas movie here, which she’s co-producing by the way, and I have to meet her. Please, please, Liam, use your kingly privileges and let me meet Hana!” Maxwell pouted and Liam bit his lip so he wouldn’t start laughing.
“I know you have a celebrity crush on her but isn’t it a bit too much?”
“You’re saying that just because you already met her and I wasn’t invited!”
“I barely had any chance to talk to her, it was mostly my father who did the talking but from what I remember she was truly a charming person.”
“Well, duh.” Maxwell rolled his eyes. “I just want to meet her. I’ve prepared a welcome dance just for her and I need to show it to her. She’ll love it!”
“And what do I have to do?”
“Come with me to the set and tell the security not to kick me out? You and Drake can hang out somewhere while I’ll be with Hana.”
Liam furrowed his eyebrows. “Drake is coming as well?” He asked.
“NO!” They heard Drake’s voice from the hall just as Maxwell opened his mouth to say ‘yes’. In a moment, their friend walked into the office and stopped right in front of them. “I already said no!”
“Come on, you guys! I have dreams too, you know?”
“And meeting an actress while bringing your friends with you is one of them?” Drake raised his eyebrow at Maxwell.
“I actually wanted to ask her something.” Maxwell blushed a little. “I wanted to ask her if she’d let me write her autobiography.”
“Err…” Liam started and looked at Drake for help.
“Maxwell, you can’t write her autobiography.”
“Why not? You doubt my writing talent?”
“No, actually, yes, but that’s not the point.” Drake shook his head.
“Only Hana can write her autobiography, you can write her biography,” Liam cut in. Maxwell shrugged.
“Same thing. Does it mean you’ll come? Pleaseeeeee. Pleaseeee, pleeeaase!”
Liam sighed as he looked at Drake who was shaking his head. “Yes, Maxwell. We’ll come.”
~~~~
“Where are you going?”
“Oh, I’ve just finished and I thought I’d go for a walk and explore a bit.” Victoria smiled at Hana who looked beautiful in a dress she was wearing for the opening scene.
“But we’ve just started rolling. How are you finished already?”
“Well… Your movie best friend doesn’t have that many scenes. I’m just a supporting character, remember?”
“Oh, okay.” Hana thought for a second. “Would you like to go through the tomorrow’s scenes later?”
“I think I’m okay. I only have a few lines and to be honest, I’m so used to playing background characters that I feel well prepared for shooting.” Victoria said it half-jokingly but Hana’s face fell a little.
“I’m sure if I talked to the—”
“No, Hana, no.” Victoria shook her head. “I didn’t mean it like that. I’m happy with my role. I just wanted to say I’m well prepared for this role because I always play best friends. No whining intended.”
“Okay then.” Hana smiled. “Just remember some of the best actors got their awards for playing supporting characters.”
~~~~
Liam was looking at the set, unsure why he agreed to help Maxwell.
“You’re the best, you know that, right?” Maxwell beamed as he was trying to spot Hana. The security let them in immediately after Liam introduced himself and his friends.
“Just remember we should—” Liam started but Maxwell ran off somewhere, half dancing. “—be going soon.”
“Yeah.” Drake nodded. “I’ll be with the food if you need me,” Drake said before leaving Liam alone.
He looked at the set; it was busy and Liam didn’t feel like socializing. He decided leave the set and go for a walk before he’d come again to take Maxwell and Drake back to the palace. The last thing he needed was people recognizing the King on their set.
~~~~
Victoria was wandering through the forest which was conveniently located near the movie set. She thought if she was to be in only a few scenes in the movie, she might as well use all the free time to explore Cordonia. And there was a lot to be explored.
Normally, Victoria would do a thorough research on the country she was going to but because her being in the movie was a last-minute decision, she had no time for anything except for packing.
She wasn’t complaining, though. There was something magical about exploring the country for the first time. She wanted to make the most of it.
What she told Hana was completely a lie. She wasn’t whining and she was truly happy to be playing Hana’s supporting character. Acting wasn’t the career of her choice. She was in love with cinema ever since she could remember. When she got into her dream film school she wanted to become a famous movie critic. Her plans were changed later when one of her professors told her she had a talent for acting and she should try it. Ever since, Victoria had small roles here and there. She loved seeing how the movie industry works from the inside but at the same time, the more she played, the more she longed for something more.
Not wanting to complain, she only silently wondered when she’d stop playing best friends and be a main character, at least once in her life. She wouldn’t admit it to anyone, but the longer she was acting, the more she believed she wasn’t a main character even in her own life. Maybe it was supposed to be this way, maybe some people were meant to be supporting characters even in their own lives. Maybe it—
“Ooooff” Victoria’s stream of consciousness was interrupted when she bumped into something. Someone. A man.
“I’m sorry, are you alright?”
“A local. Cordonian accent is really pretty,” she thought to herself as she nodded at the stranger.
“I’m sorry I bumped into you. I didn’t see you,” she admitted and the stranger laughed.
“From my point of view, you were looking directly at me. I assume you were lost in thought.”
“I was, sorry.”
“Oh, don’t be. I always lose the sense of reality when I’m in nature myself. You’re a tourist, I assume?”
“I am. Just came here and wanted to explore a little.”
The stranger nodded. “The forests are usually not the first thing the tourists are visiting but I must admit, we do have amazing forests.”
“They might not be for most people but I love going for walks here and forget about my job, my life, everything.”
“Then I think we’re very much alike. I do like to forget about my job as well.”
“Is your job that bad?” Victoria asked and noticed the stranger’s face expression changed.
“It… can be. It’s very demanding and I… sometimes like to take a break. And you?” He changed the subject. “What do you do?”
“Oh, I’m—” she stopped. If she told him she was an actress he’d ask her what movies she played in. Victoria wouldn’t bear seeing the disappointment on his face when she’d explain she plays minor roles. Not when she started to like him.
“Victoria, stop it, you can’t think every single person you meet and have at least one thing in common with is your soulmate. You’re not living in a movie.” She scolded herself and she realized the stranger was still waiting for the answer.
“I’m… in the movie industry,” she finally said. “A critic. Well, a beginner but you get the idea,” she lied, laughing nervously.
“That sounds intriguing, umm…” he stopped at looked at her expectantly.
“Victoria! Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. And you are…?”
“Liam. Nice to meet you.” He extended her hand and to Victoria’s surprise, he kissed it, smiling at her. “And welcome to Cordonia. I hope you’ll have a great time in our beautiful country.”
Victoria felt a chill running through her body as Liam was touching her hand. She offered a small smile in return. “Yes… Me too.”

Alright y’all, I’m proud to introduce you to some of my new OCs! There are more coming, but these are the first😊💖💜 I want to thank @thatoneemokpop-02 and @bt20-whump for proofreading and inspiration. You two are awesome 💜💖💙 so... here goes 😊
TW: food, strip club mention, alcohol, emeto, tiny heartbreak, lots of fluffy cuteness (I think that’s all but if you see any I missed please let me know and I will fix them!)
“Parker, what is the point of coming to the library if you are not going to study?” Cody only looked up from his laptop for a moment before refocusing on his screen.
“I’m trying to help my poor, clueless friend find a date to the smart people formal.” Parker was spinning his fidget spinner at speeds unheard of by mankind.
Cody rolled his eyes, stealing just one more glance to his left.
Parker noticed.
“Dude, why will you not just go talk to her?” Parker could definitely have been heard from across the room.
“Talk to who? I wasn’t looking at anyone.” Cody blushed, his cheeks involuntarily rising in a smile to meet the rims of his glasses.
“Sure. So you were totally not just checking Brooklyn out. Of course not, so you won’t mind if I just go on over there and-”
“Wait! Wait.”
Parker smirked.
“Maybe I was. It’s not important.”
“Are you kidding? Look when you meet the chick that makes you… well… I won’t say it for your sake but if Maverick was here I would. Anyways, that means you gotta shoot your shot. It’s like basketball.”
“Parker I hate sports. We’ve been over this.”
“All because one frisbee hit your glasses yeah yeah…” Parker looked over at Brooklyn. She looked like Cody’s type. He had to get Cody to at least attempt it.
“What if you ask for her snap?”
“I’m not doing that.” Cody shut his laptop. “And another thing. It looks sleazy to just walk up to a girl and ask for her snap okay? You really should try a new method.”
Parker had his idea.
“Oh… you know what? You’re right. What should I do instead?”
“I don’t know, maybe… talk to her? Like at least get on some sort of “friend” level before you ask. It just looks better.”
“Uh huh…” Parker was getting ready to help Cody in a slightly less than orthodox way. “So to talk to her, you’d need a reason right?”
Cody looked over at her, hoping she wouldn’t catch him.
“Yeah… some sort of reason I guess.”
“Okay, don’t kill me.”
Parker got up, and started to walk over to Brooklyn’s table. She was there alone, seemingly very involved in her studies.
“Pardon me ma’am. My name’s Parker, and I was wondering if you like pineapple on pizza?”
Brooklyn blushed.
“I don’t exactly think it’s my thing… although pepperoni is pretty good.” She smiled.
“Awesome. So now that I’ve been established as the crazy person you have in common, Cody?” Parker called back to his previous seat. Cody had his face hidden in a book. He peeked out, throwing the book aside and doing his best to act “chill” as Parker had called it.
“Hi Brooklyn, I apologize for this… i don’t really know what to call him actually. I’m Cody. The-” he partially glared at Parker “more sane one.”
“It’s nice to meet you Cody, and Parker.” She bit her lip, and Cody felt his entire body go stiff. Parker could tell he had to save the day once again.
“So, you’re a hot girl. Have a date to the smart people dinner thing yet?”
“You mean the Academic Formal?”
“Yeah, love the bigger words. They really suit ya.”
“Let me just- one second.” Cody practically pulled Parker over to the side.
“You’re an idiot.”
“But I’m good at it, thank you.” Parker winked, and then went back to Brooklyn.
“Here’s the thing, my main man Cody here doesn’t have a date yet, and I thought you two would make a really cute couple so here’s his snap.”
Cody felt dizzy. Had Parker really just done that? This was the last time he was ever disclosing feelings to him. Actually, come to think of it, this is not the first time he’s said that.
Parker laid on his classic *Dean Winchester* smile, and then came back over to Cody.
“I’m literally planning your demise as we speak.”
------ time skip to 5:00 pm, in Parker’s dorm room------
“Ah I did good today. I found love for the little guy. I’m proud of myself and that means-”
“Do not touch the ice cream Parker I swear I will hurt you.”
Parker jumped.
“Maverick you aren’t supposed to be home yet!”
“And you aren’t supposed to touch my ice cream. So, even.” Maverick took the container away from Parker.
“Now, you wanna explain to me why Cody is trying to recruit me to kill you?”
“Not really.”
“Should I have him explain it?”
“Probably not… how about you just eat your ice cream hm? That would end well for all of us.”
Maverick rolled his eyes. He knew Parker must have really done something bad this time.
*buzz* *buzz*
Parker’s phone went off.
5:23 pm Cody: “ Why did you have to butt in?”
5:24 pm Parker: “ Because you couldn’t do it yourself.”
5:26 pm Cody: “Yeah and if you hadn’t done it, I could still be admiring her from afar and just getting silently and unrightfully irritated when she found another date.”
5:34 pm Parker: “Andddddd where’s the fun in that?”
5:37 pm Cody: “THE FACT THAT IT IS SAFE YOU NIMROD!”
5:43 pm Parker: “It’s still funny that you won’t cuss.”
5:45 pm Cody: “She just snapped me! What do I do? Parker I am scared.” “Parker?” “Parker!”
6:00 pm Parker: “Sorry, Maverick let me have ice cream and I forgot to text back.”
6:02 pm Cody: “ *facepalm* you are no help.”
6:15 pm Parker: “Well, what did it say?”
6:17 pm Cody: “I’m scared to look.”
6:18 pm Parker: “Dude, I’ll tell you what it says. Ready?” “ Hi”
6:20 pm Cody: “SHE WROTE BACK “HI” WHAT DO I SAY???????”
6:21 pm Parker: “You’re sure they invited you to the smart people thing right? Like it wasn’t a mix up?”
6:22 pm Cody: “Parker yes they invited me. I’m so dang smart that I have no idea how to… “my people skills are rusty.””
6:24 pm Parker: “Dude if you don’t stop with the references I am going to send you to a psych ward.”
6:25 pm Cody: “Noted. Okay, I am going to respond.”
6:30 pm Parker: “Good now text me when you have an actual conversation rolling aight?”
Parker put his phone in his pocket and went back to his ice cream cone. At 7:00, he got another text.
7:00 pm Cody: “She… um… she told me she’s going with someone else.”
Now Parker felt bad. The poor kid got rejected, and unlike himself, who bounces back and just moves on, he knew Cody had a tendency to get attached. Ah well, no use crying over spilled milk.
7:01 pm Parker: “Who?”
7:03 pm Cody: “It doesn’t matter. I’m glad she found someone she wants to go with. Well, I’m gonna go on to sleep so I can study some more tomorrow. Night Park.”
7:04 pm Parker: “Sorry dude. Night Cody.”
Now he felt really really bad. He thought for a bit, and then, an idea hit him.
7:23 pm Parker: “I am on my way. Do not do anything stupid like buying more books. You cannot keep any more in your room. There is officially no more space.”
Parker was going to do the one thing he knew cured heartbreak. They were both 21…
When Parker got there, he found Cody halfway through a bag of popcorn watching a romcom.
“Dude… I get that you’re sad but this is just straight tragic.”
Cody sniffled, holding the blanket up to his nose.
“Shush this is all I have now.”
“Nope, not gonna happen. Come on.” Parker picked Cody up and placed him on his feet.
“Why can you not let me cry in peace?”
“Because it’s not how I roll. Now, we’re getting you dressed, and then we’re going to a strip club.”
“But.. but I don’t-”
“Trust me, you’ll get the hang of it.”
Parker had considered inviting Maverick, but he was kinda the rule-stickler type. His grandparents had raised him to be pretty straight-laced.
---- time skip to driving to the club-----
“I really think this is a bad idea.” Cody looked down at his navy button-up and his black pants and dress shoes.
“You’ll be fine. Look, I’ve done this hundreds of times.”
“Hundreds??”
“Eh, okay maybe tens, but same thing.”
They pulled into the parking lot, and the one thing that went through Cody’s mind is that this was not going to end well.
----- time skip to 3:28 am-----
“Wowwww she was-s right in ma face! Did you see?”
“Yes I saw.” Cody pulled his friend up from the floor of the club.
“Ohh no! Iss time to go ba-back now?”
“It is. Maverick is probably worried about you.”
“Pshhhhhhhh nahhhhh… m’ fin”
“You’re fine?”
“Yeash I’m fineeeeee”
“And here I was thinking I was a lightweight. Alright, out we go.”
“BYE BRITTNEEEEEEEEEE!” Parker’s head lolled to the side as he let Cody handle most of his body weight.
They stumbled to the car, somehow making it in a decent amount of time. Cody opened the passenger side door, and helped Parker slide in.
“Thank you *burp* you’re my bestesetest of frans. I luv you mann.”
Even Cody had to laugh.
“I love you too. Now, in the car. We’re putting your seatbelt on.”
“NO! NO I WON’T BE TAKEN AGAIN! I CAN’T GO BACK *hiccup*”
“Tell it to the judge bub.”
Parker heard the seatbelt click into place and immediately started bawling.
“I *hiccup* am s-so sorry-yee. I did not mean to *hiccup* tell the *hiccup* panda to go *hiccup* f-”
“Okay that’s enough bud. Sleep. We’re headed home.”
“I c-can’t f-feel my eyeballs *hiccup*”
“You aren’t supposed to feel them. They’re just there.”
“BUT HOW DO I KNOW THEY ARE NOT STOLEN????”
Cody took a deep breath and looked down at the clock in the dashboard. They’d be home in ten minutes, maybe less if Parker didn’t stop blubbering. He’d already called Maverick, who had assured Cody he would take care of their drunk friend, but Cody had decided maybe it would be nice to take care of Parker instead of being on his own tonight. Despite everything that happened that night, he still wanted some company.
“Oh jolly good young fellow wherefore art the d- oh! Look at the grass! It’s so green!”
“It’s brown bub. It’s winter.” Cody smiled, pulling into the parking place that he’d been assigned.
Cody smiled, pulling into the parking place that he’d been assigned.
“Welp… I’m bout to turn it *hiccup* green…”
Cody looked over to see Parker’s cheeks puffed out and his chest rolling forward in a heave.
“Hang on! Hang on-” He jumped out of the car and opened the door on Parker’s side. It was just in time. Pure alcohol mixed with some sort of greenish jello shot coated the ground. It splattered onto Cody’s pants, but he didn’t care.
“There ya go. You’re doing great.” He awkwardly rubbed Parker’s back as the boy gagged again, turning to face the grass below once more.
“M’ overdid *gag* it…” Parker started to cry from the exertion.
“It’s okay. Don’t worry about that now. Cody’s gotcha.”
Another bout of liquid spattered on the ground, some of it dripping down Parker’s chin. Cody had some napkins put away in the glove compartment, so he reached in and grabbed a couple.
“I *hiccup* unhghh…”
“You done Park?”
“Yeah…”
As if his body were trying to prove that it would not be controlled, he heaved up another round of clear, bubbly liquid.
“M’ done now.”
“Okay, up we go.” Cody wiped Parker’s mouth before slowly helping him up. His friend looked so pitiful, his hair so tousled and sweaty, his skin so pale… he hated to see him feeling so bad, but he had done it to himself.
“Alright, now… we’re going upstairs to my dorm room. If you need to puke, here’s a bag. Tell me to stop walking if we need to.”
Cody knew that was too much information, but it was worth a shot.
By some miracle, they made it to Cody’s room. Cody scanned his entry card, and then helped Parker onto the bed.
He sat next to him, rubbing his arm. Parker was curled up in a tiny half-asleep ball.
*buzz-buzz*
4:35 am Maverick: “Hey, you guys okay? How much did he drink?”
4:37 am Cody: “More than he should have… hey listen um… I was wondering… do you happen to know who’s going to the dinner with Brooklyn? She told me she was going with someone but didn’t say who.”
4:46 am Maverick: “You’re gonna flip out if I tell you.”
As much as that text intrigued him, Parker had partially woken up and had just puked all over himself and the bed.
Cody put his phone on the bedside table and then held Parker up so he wouldn’t choke if he puked again. Which, he did.
“Hnnngh… I feel like s***.”
“I know. You look like crap too.”
“Hhuuurrrrrrrkkk!” A thick, sludgy liquid came up.. It was sort of white and yellow… oh wait. Yeah, Cody would never look at french fries the same after tonight.
“That’s it. Get it up. I’ll fix the bed later.” Cody knew he couldn’t move him yet, so it was just best to get everything out.
After a few more empty, dry retches, Parker was finally done for the moment. Cody made the decision to take him to the bathroom and let him sit next to the toilet while he got some of his extra clothes to put on him.
He heard loud retching, almost obnoxious, from the bathroom. He just took a breath and went on looking for the clothes, knowing that more than likely Parker wouldn’t be done for a while, and probably didn’t register that he was there anyways.
“C-Cody?” A weak whimper filled the silence. Cody was shocked, but immediately grabbed a pair of boxers (which admittedly he felt weird about), pajama pants and a t-shirt, and then went to the bathroom.
He found Cody in a puddle of puke, tears streaming down his face.
“Don feel *hiccup* good…”
Cody felt his heart break.
“It’s okay. I know you don’t feel good. I promise it’ll be over soon.” He had to lie. The poor thing in this confused, overly dazed state couldn’t take the truth that he’d more than likely be puking for the next two days after how much he drank.
Cody got down next to Parker, putting a hand on Parker’s back. His shirt was damp with sweat and vomit. Cody rubbed up and down on his side, watching as Parker curled himself around the toilet.
“You’re gonna be okay Park.”
“S-sorry…” For a moment, Parker almost sounded sober…
“It’s alright, I can clean it up. You’re good.”
“No… the *hiccup* chick…”
Cody had been trying to forget about that.
“It’s not a big deal, really.”
“If I didn’t feel *hiccup* like I was gonna *hiccup* throw my guts up *hiccup* I’d have tried harder…” Parker turned his head back toward the water and puked up a thick stream of alcohol and whatever other fried foods he’d gotten into.
Cody felt bad. He knew Parker had tried, but he felt worse that Parker was sitting here puking and still thinking about that. He was sick. He didn’t need to be worried about that.
“Let’s um… talk about it when you’re sober hm?” Cody smiled sheepishly.
Parker nodded, his mouth opening slightly before gagging again.
“I’m gonna go get the bed ready. Can you stay here for a bit?”
“Mhmmm…” Parker spit a stringy line of saliva into the toilet.
Cody went out, and took the bedspread and pillowcases off. He tried to get as much of the puke off as he could, but hopefully the washing machine could do most of the work. He didn’t have another comforter, so he had to find his best throw blanket and go with that.
He finished making the bed, and then went back to the bathroom.
“Park?”
The boy was asleep on the toilet seat. Cody could feel his heartstrings being pulled one by one. He wet a washcloth and then sat down next to Parker, leaning him back slowly onto his shoulder. Cody then softly wiped his face, noting how sick he looked. Usually Parker was all crazy plans and bold ideas and loud things. It was far different to see him this way. So quiet, weak, and… helpless really.
He continued to clean Parker up, and then got him into fresh clothes. Then he helped him to the bed, and laid him down. This time, he’d put a bucket next to him. Not that it would really make much difference since Parker was probably too drunk to notice it. He pulled the blanket up to Parker’s shoulders, and then went back to the bathroom, cleaning up the rest of the mess.
When he finished, he went back to the couch and fell asleep. He knew he’d need the rest for Parker’s hangover the next morning. Thank goodness today was a Friday so they wouldn’t have school tomorrow.

“I used to think one day we'd tell the story of us How we met and the sparks flew instantly And people would say, "they're the lucky ones’”
“Jesus you two are so lucky” Yeji couldn’t keep her comments in as you turned away from Marks retreating frame and to the green-eyed girl sitting in front of you at the library desk you two were currently occupying. Late night study sessions for the upcoming college exams called for loyal boyfriends to bring coffee from the campus starbucks for you and your best friend, effortlessly gaining brownie points with you.
“What do you mean we’re lucky?” You snickered as you handed her coffee to her and immediately sucked in your own cold, bitter sweet; feeling the coffee practically revive your body.
Yeji sighed with an elongated eye roll to express her clear annoyance at your confusion. “Y/n, everyone knows you and Mark are the cutest couple on campus. I mean you two met at what, a frat party?-“
“-yeah” you mumbled.
“-Yeah, and you two immediately clicked. I mean your two year anniversary is coming up, right? I won’t be surprised if you two are telling your children how you met in 10 years.” She laughed at the end of her sentence as you gasped and balled up an empty piece of paper in front of you; throwing it at her giggling and arm-protected frame as you whisper yelled,
“Yeji - shut up!” The light pink hue undoubtedly covered your face and ears at her claims as you both went back to the notes in front of you. Yeji - quickly forgetting the conversation - started complaining about the riparian plants of the San Joaquin (“-like we’re not even at the San Joaquin-“) but your mind was too preoccupied with the previous conversation, and a smile slowly etched it’s way onto your face as her words settled deep into your heart -
Unfortunately setting you up for heartbreak.
Tumblr media
“Oh, a simple complication Miscommunications lead to fall out So many things that I wish you knew So many walls up I can't break through”
“Well you were supposed to come over and help me pack!” You couldn’t help your voice from failing you and slightly raising in accusation and anger, and you cringed at the annoyance of your tone. You could hear Mark sigh on the other side of the receiver - even over the sounds that occupied his side of the call.
“Y/n, I know, I’m sorry. I thought you meant later. I didn’t know you needed the help right now.” You wanted to ask him to come over now; to drop whatever commitment he was already at and come be with you like he said he would, but the idea of stressing him more than the situation already is, you’re sure, left a twisted feeling in your stomach, and a metallic taste in your mouth. And, with yet another sigh - maybe the 40th one through out this entire, 6 minute call - you told him that it wasn’t a big deal and he could make it up to you later. You both mumbled your I love you’s before he hung up first - leaving you in complete silence.
Your heart burned at the thought of yet another conversation passed where you refused to let out the feelings that were too overgrown for the space of your chest. There was so much you wanted to say to Mark; so much that you wished he knew. Usually, you wouldn’t hesitate to tell him how you feel - but lately the conversations seemed strained and overworked, and you had reserved yourself to the insecure thoughts that maybe Mark didn’t want to hear how you felt, and maybe it was best for your relationship if you kept them in.
You spaced out your gaze as you looked around your almost empty dorm room. It was the end of your junior year of college, and you and Mark were supposed to be packing up your room. Mark, however, forgot about it and chose to instead spend his time hanging out with his frat brothers (like he always did).
No. You slapped the side of your head and shook it back and forth while trying to get rid of the jealous thoughts. It’s okay. It’s not that deep. You’re fine.
To distract yourself, you shot Yeji a text to come help you with your room. At this, your thoughts wandered back to that late night in the school library, and your frown deepened.
You’re fine. We’re fine.
Tumblr media
“Now I'm standing alone In a crowded room And we're not speaking and I'm dying to know Is it killing you like it's killing me yeah I don't know what to say since the twist of fate When it all broke down and the story of us Looks a lot like a tragedy now”
The music blasting through the speakers of the party was giving you nothing short of a migraine, and the unknown, red alcohol in your cup was doing nothing to soothe it. In your defense, it’s not like you wanted to be here. You would have preferred to be back in your new apartment, unpacking your boxes with a romcom playing, a candle burning, and your new cat, Ivy, cuddled up on the couch. Yet, when Yeji all but bullied you through text to come to the first party of your last year of college, you didn’t have much of a choice other than to attend. You hoped that maybe it wouldn’t be as bad as your mind was playing it up to be, this thought being reinforced by your best friend. The minute you walked through the doors of the quite familiar frat house, however, you instantly regretted ever showing your face in these hallowed halls.
You knew almost everyone in this room, yet also felt like you knew no one. Lately, that was a pretty normal feeling for you. You had spent the majority of your college experience being friends with the people that partied all around you; getting to know them at events not so different than this one. Yet, you - ever the shy one - wouldn’t have even known them, if it weren’t for a certain person that occupied the majority of your thoughts. The very same person standing across the room from you, playing beer pong with his fellow frat members.
This summer had not been kind to you.
Your uncertainties about your relationship with Mark bled into the summer heat, and were reinforced by the distance you two shared. Calls became far too in between, and texts were sporadic and short; usually just quick check-ins and awkward hellos and goodbyes.
Those were all okay for you. Well, they weren’t okay, but they were better than nothing; better than not having him.
The climax of the summer, however, came mid July, when you called and he did not answer. This wasn’t a new thing, so you left it. Yet when you called him a second, third, and fourth time (in the span of 24 hours) and he never answered, never texted you, never even acknowledged you, you knew something was wrong. You didn’t want to be the annoying one in the relationship (always so insecure), so you left it once more.
For a week.
A week had gone by without so much as a two letter word between each other. Deep in your heart, you knew the relationship was over at that point. But how could one admit that they had lost the love of their life so easily? So finally, after three weeks of no contact, you texted him a four letter message that hopefully explained everything you felt.
So this is it?
Mark responded.
I think so.
That summer was recorded as one of the hottest since 1946, but you never noticed. Your tears kept you cold.
Tumblr media
“See me nervously pulling at my clothes And trying to look busy And you're doing your best to avoid me I'm starting to think one day I'll tell the story of us How I was losing my mind when I saw you here But you held your pride like you should have held me”
If you could cross the room and pull Mark into your hold and hug and kiss him like you two never even broke up, you would do it at as fast as the speed of sound. But Mark didn’t want you anymore, he made that clear. He was laughing at something Haechan said, and he looked beautiful; you felt idiotic for staring. You prayed he - or anyone else, for that matter - didn’t notice you there, but after shooting a text to Yeji that you were leaving, and looking back up at him for the last time, you were surprised to see that he was already looking at you. His eyes were rounded larger than usual, and even from your corner across the room, you could see the shock in them at your presence.
Time stopped as you two stared at each other, before you finally let out a small cough and looked down at your shirt to “fix” it, while Mark quickly looked anywhere but you. Satisfied with whatever you were trying to do with your clothes, you looked at Mark’s awkward figure one last time through your eyelashes, before turning and walking out of the party. When Mark looked back to where he last saw you, you weren’t there anymore, and his heart became hyperaware of the ever present twinge of pain that seemed to constantly be there, whether he numbed it out or not.
To be clear, Mark isn’t too sure why he broke up with you. While he still was deeply in love with you, you and him didn’t seem to be on the same page anymore, and that was enough reason for him to leave you. He wished he could hold you, hug you, love you like he used to. But every time you came to his head, the cringe at the way you two ended things quickly followed, and he’s too embarrassed to even think about talking to you again.
With a sigh, Mark turned back to his friends, and spent the rest of the night trying to drink away the memory of your face across the room.
Tumblr media
“The battle's in your hands now But I would lay my armor down If you'd say you'd rather love than fight”
The insistent knocking on your apartments door at 3am scared more than annoyed you, and you couldn’t help yourself from grabbing the bat next to your bed before slowly making your way towards the door. You had 911 on speed dial in one hand and your bat in the other. It was moments like this that made you especially miss Mark, because lord knows you couldn’t fight back if someone tried to break in (not like you wouldn’t try).
Trying to distract yourself from the fear, you thought back to the party a month earlier, and your terrified thoughts had you thinking ‘if this is how I die, I’m going to regret never talking to Mark again’ as you arrived at your door.
You slowly lifted yourself to your peep hole, and let out a gasp at who you saw on the other side. You quickly placed your bat on the ground and your phone on the counter by your door, and opened the door wide.
“Mar-“ you didn’t get far before Mark took one huge step towards you, cupped your cheeks with his hands, and smashed his lips onto yours. You both stumbled into your home before mark pushed the door closed and spun you both, slightly pushing you against the door. After about 45 seconds of intense making out, Mark broke away and placed his forehead on your own.
“Hi,” you giggled out, to which Mark laughed himself.
“Hi.”

When You Met Chris Beck
For @the-ss-horniest-book-club Romcom Drabbles!
Pairing: Chris Beck x Reader
Word Count: 1,670
Warnings: Language, mention of sexytimes and angst following.
A/N: Direct dialogue from the movie When Harry Met Sally will be in italics, but there's a lot paraphrased to match this scenario and if you are as familiar with this movie as I am, you will hear the original in your head as you read. All credit to the genius of the late, great Nora Ephron. If you've never seen this movie ....please do as soon as possible. It is the greatest romcom ever.
*
"Chris Beck. It's nice to meet you," he said smoothly, and you took his outstretched hand, shaking it and introducing yourself.
"So," you shook off the pleasantries, jumping right in. "As you know this lab project will take 12 hours. I've taken the liberty of sketching out where we can each take breaks, and which parts of the project should be completed by a certain time, and," you paused at his slight chuckle, looking up from your notebook. "Something wrong?"
"No, no..." He waved you off, that smirk still on his face. "You're clearly very organized. Don't let me get in your way."
Your eyes narrowed. "I hope you're planning on doing your part of this project."
"Hey," he said quickly, clearly offended. "I'm just as serious as you about being here. I'm just a little more relaxed than you are."
Ignoring the 'uptight' implication in his words, you threw yourself into the project. You gave him one word answers to his questions, and dodged his personal queries as best as you could.
"Are you seeing anyone?" He finally came right out with it and you sighed, not even looking up at him from the microscope.
"Look, Beck, I don't really want to talk about my personal life. We're not friends."
"Ouch. Why don't you want to be friends? We're going to be in this training program together for two more years, you know."
"On different career paths," you clarified. "There's a good chance we don't see each other again after tonight."
"Well, have a nice life then, I guess."
*
Your boyfriend handed you a champagne flute and you sipped it gratefully. The welcome home party for Ares III was not your usual scene, and you were grateful for his support. You pressed a soft kiss to his lips, and pulled back to see a face you hadn't seen (in person at least) for years.
"I thought that was you!" Beck clapped your boyfriend on his shoulder and they shook hands, catching up for a few minutes. Every once in a while Beck's eyes would wander over to you and a tiny look of confusion crossed his face. Each time you met his eyes directly, just daring him to remember. Finally, he said his farewells, gave you one last lost look, and wandered away into the party.
"Thank goodness he didn't remember me. I had to do a 12 hour lab project with him in training and it was the longest night of my life."
Your boyfriend looked curious. "What happened?"
"He wouldn't stop asking me all these personal questions and finally I told him we weren't going to be friends."
"Twelve hours with someone is a long time. Maybe he was just being polite." Holding his hands up and stepping back in retreat, he grinned at you. "Just playing devil's advocate!"
"Okay, okay. Maybe I was rude, but it meant a lot to me to be accepted to this program and I never want to be narrowed down to 'someone's girlfriend'. No offense," you winked at him.
Beck found you again later, leaning against the bar waiting for a refill, and greeted you by your full name.
"Did you ask someone, or did you finally remember?"
"Who could forget that 12 hour project?"
"You did, an hour ago."
"Are you always this direct?"
"Always." You cleared your throat, and attempted a smile. "So...how was space?"
Beck choked on his drink. "I'm sure your daily briefings told you everything the news didn't. Maybe they missed one thing," he beamed at you. "I'm getting married."
"Really?"
"Really."
"Who is she?"
"You know her, Beth Johanssen."
"Oh." She'd been on the mission, too. "Well, good luck to you both."
"Thanks," he nudged your shoulder with his, "how about you two?" He asked nodding over at your boyfriend.
"Still can't stop yourself from asking personal questions, hmm?"
"Ah, right, I forgot. We're not friends," he picked up his drink and winked at you before walking away.
*
At the soft sound of a throat clearing, you looked up from the journal article you were reading, put down your cup of coffee, and stared for a moment before speaking. "Dr. Beck...hello."
"Hi," he gestures to the empty seat at your table. "May I?"
"Of course," you watched as he sat down. He looked different, was acting different. The light in his eyes was out. "I didn't know you'd transferred here."
"Yeah," he breathed out slowly. "I needed a change."
"How's..."
He shook his head, cutting you off. "We're getting divorced."
You nodded, looking over his changed appearance. His eyes met yours.
"How's..." He started and stopped as you sighed and bit your lip.
"We just broke up."
"I'm sorry."
"Me too. I'm sorry, Beck."
It was the quietest and most sincere conversation you two had ever had. He picked up his own cup of coffee and took a sip before asking, "so what happened with you guys?"
A long lunch of sharing sad stories became dinner...became friendship.
Best friends.
You helped him decorate his new apartment. He helped you bring home your Christmas tree. The two of you spent so much time together there almost wasn't time to see other people, but then you both did and told each other your terrible dating stories.
An attempt to set each other up with your other best friends backfired spectacularly as your best friend and his best friend fell for each other instead.
You were stuck with each other.
*
"Hello?"
Your tearful voice filled the phone line. "Can you come over?"
"What's wrong?"
"He's getting married!"
"Who?"
"MY EX."
"I'll be right there."
You opened the door, sniffling into a tissue, eyes red-rimmed and full of unshed tears. He followed you back to your bed, holding you while you cried and explained that even though you had thought he never wanted to get married, he had just never wanted to marry you.
"What's wrong with me?" You wailed.
"Nothing." Beck brushed his fingers through your hair.
"I'm difficult. I'm too structured and hard to deal with."
"But in a good way."
You laughed, despite yourself, and nuzzled closer to him. "Can you hold me for a little, please?"
He did - and when one thing led to another you both should have put a stop to it. You were vulnerable and so was he, in his own way. In the morning you could barely look at each other, and he dressed quickly and left.
Even though you agreed that it had been a mistake, a tiny bubble of resentment began to grow and grow inside you, filling up your veins and stretching from your fingers to your toes. When he finally confronted you and was met with your fury, he replied with indignation.
"You were laying there looking at me - don't go, hold me - what was I supposed to do?"
"Are you saying you took pity on me? Fuck you!"
The sound of your hand slapping his face echoed throughout the room.
*
You hadn't spoken in weeks.
You screened your calls relentlessly.
"The fact that you're not answering leads me to believe you're either (a) not at home, (b) home but don't want to talk to me, or (c) home, desperately want to talk to me, but trapped under something heavy. If it's either (a) or (c), please call me back."
*
One day, there was something about his tone of voice that made you answer the call.
"Hey, hi!" He sounded like an excited puppy.
You answered him flatly. "What do you want?"
"Um...are you going to the NASA mixer next week? Because I am, and if you are...we always said we could go together to those things so we wouldn't be alone..."
"I can't do this anymore, Beck," you cut him off. "I am not your consolation prize."
You hung up the phone without another word.
*
Standing in the corner by yourself at the NASA mixer, you finished your second glass of champagne and sighed. One more round through this room and then it's home with a bottle of wine, comfort television and your own self-loathing.
You stopped short in your tracks on your way to the door as Beck appeared, leaning in the doorway out of breath, as if he had run here. He spotted you, and rushed over, and you couldn't make your feet move. You were frozen in place as he approached.
"I've been doing a lot of thinking, and the thing is, I love you."
You blinked.
"What?"
"I love you."
"How do you expect me to respond to this?"
"How about, you love me too."
"How about, I'm leaving."
He grabbed your arm and you were too shocked to try and shake him off. "Listen to me! I'm sorry about what happened. I'm so sorry. I didn't realize how much I wanted you and then I was scared to lose you, and then I was an asshole and I lost you anyway. I can't be without you anymore, you have to believe me!" Your eyes filled with tears as he spoke, and you watched him - he was full of that light, the light that had been missing, and you knew he was telling you the truth. "I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."
You shrugged away from his hold, only to pull him close with both arms and kiss him, somewhat indecently, in front of all your colleagues at the NASA mixer.
*
Beck: The first time we met, we hated each other.
You: No, you didn't hate me, I hated you. The second time we met, you didn't even remember me.
Beck: I did too, I remembered you. The third time we met, we became friends.
You: We were friends for a long time.
Beck: And then we weren't.
You: And then we fell in love.

1 | blind date
You were beginning to wonder if you’d been stood up.
Mia’s Diner was usually busy, bustling with students and townspeople alike, but today it was nearly deserted: just you, two students studying in a booth across the room, and an old man reading what seemed to be a newspaper upside-down in the corner. A lone waitress was stacking clean milkshake glasses behind the counter.
It was raining hard outside, the drops sounding like impatient fingers tapping at the window beside you. As you peered through the glass, you caught a glimpse of a boy on a rusty bike, waiting to cross the street. Yang Jeongin, you recognized -- the delivery boy. A silver Walkman was tucked into the back pocket of his jeans, his lips mouthing the words to a song, a halo of dripping blonde hair sticking out from underneath his hood. He was smiling, despite the fact that it was pouring buckets, and he’d likely been up doing deliveries since 6 in the morning. Yang Jeongin was always smiling.
The light flashed red, traffic halted, and the delivery boy sped away.
Turning your attention back to the empty seat in front of you, you sighed.
Your date was thirty minutes late.
Your mind was running over all the ways you were going to give Felix hell when you saw him in class tomorrow; how you were going to explain to him that you’d been stood up on the blind date he’d arranged for you.
“You know what they call me? The Matchmaker of Miroh Heights. Has a nice ring to it, huh?”
You’d groaned as your best friend wiggled his eyebrows. Felix loved playing wingman. As the school photographer and a talented journalism major, he was the one who came up with the “Cutest Couples” section in the campus newspaper -- photoshoots and candid shots of pairings, most of which he’d set up. Still, you’d never thought that his...work...would extend to you.
It had been a while since you’d entertained the notion of love. You’d had your fair share of unrequited crushes and relationships that had not-so-pleasant endings, so the moment you’d enrolled into college and the workload had swept up your entire schedule, you’d left love on the backburner. You kept telling yourself that the right person would come at the right time -- but Felix seemed to have other ideas.
“Let’s see...Hyojong? Ah, no, I forgot -- he’s taken by that pretty senior. Lucky bastard.” He huffed. “Or...Seungcheol? Nah, doesn’t seem your type. Ah!” He snapped his fingers, making you jump. “I know!”
“Felix, for the last damn time -- I don’t need a boyfriend right now.”
“Just one date? Please?” The blond boy hung up the last photo, a mischievous glint in his eyes visible even in the dark room. “I know a great guy -- health sciences major and everything. You two are practically made for each other.”
“I’m a psychology major, ‘Lix. I don’t know -- you know I’m no good at blind dates--” you caught sight of his puppy-dog expression, and sighed in defeat. “Fine! Fine. What’s his name, then?”
The school journalist flashed an impish grin. “Han Jisung.”
Han Jisung.
He was the reason why you were here, sat in a near-empty diner on a rainy Sunday afternoon, waiting for a date to show up while a pile of psychology coursework waited for you back at home.
Maybe he couldn’t make it, you told yourself -- it was pouring buckets outside. Maybe it was better to swallow your hopes and head back. Biting your lip, you pulled out your phone, tapping on Jisung’s contact (courtesy of Felix) and typing.
New Message
Hey, I’m y/n! I’m really sorry, but I had to leave.
Your finger hovered over the Send button, hesitating. What if he was on his way? Or got caught in traffic? Still, it had been over thirty minutes…
You were so caught up in your dilemma that you barely registered the sound of the diner door swinging open, and the sound of wet footsteps squeaking until they stopped at your booth.
“Hello!”
You nearly threw your phone into the face of the boy who had spoken, his hand shooting out to catch it before it fell to the floor. Drenched from head to toe from the rain -- cheeks flushed and breathing hard as if he’d been running, dark hair falling in his wide eyes, lips spread in a breathless smile -- was your date.
His other hand was hidden behind his back as he handed your phone back to you, cool fingers grazing yours as your eyes met.
Well, shit.
He was absolutely, devastatingly, adorable.
“O-oh, hi!” You stammered. “You’re…”
“Jisung,” he finished for you. “Han Jisung.” He glanced at the empty seat in front of you. “May I…”
“Yeah, of course!” Your heart rate was steadily increasing, and you wanted to slap yourself. It’s just a blind date, y/n, stop getting your hopes up--
Your gaze fell on the hand he was still hiding behind his back as he slid into the booth. Noticing your stare, Jisung slowly and sheepishly pulled out a small bouquet of roses. They were an unusual colour -- a faint, peachy pink rather than the conventional ruby red.
They were also falling apart, clusters of wrinkled petals dripping and blown askew from the wind and rain, no doubt.
“They’re for you. I mean, I completely understand if you don’t want them, it’s just--I passed a florist’s on the way here, but it started raining, and--”
“I love them,” you blurted, and, seeing Jisung raise an eyebrow, you giggled. “I really do.”
You gingerly took the misshapen bouquet from his hands, bringing the flowers to your face and breathing in softly. They smelled pleasantly of petrichor, and something else faint yet sweet.
Jisung watched you, a smile playing on his lips. “You’re -- really pretty.”
You felt the blood rush to your face, your tongue tying into knots and betraying you oncemore. “O-oh,” you squeaked, “th-thank you?”
He chuckled as the waitress came to take your orders for drinks and food.
As she left, Jisung’s gaze wandered around the vintage movie posters, records, and other retro paraphernalia that decorated the diner’s interior. “This place is something else.”
“Right? Every time I come here, I think I’ve stepped into a movie. Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Dirty Dancing--” you blushed. “Sorry. I probably sound like a nerd.”
Jisung turned back to you. “Don’t apologize. What’s your favourite kind of movie? Rom-coms?”
“Psychological thrillers, actually,” you admitted shyly. Good gosh, that intense stare in Han Jisung’s eyes was making your heart do somersaults in your chest. “But romcoms are not far behind.”
He hummed in approval, an odd glint in his eyes. “So you’re into psychology?”
“Well, I’m majoring in psychology, so I kind of have to be -- although it’s been pretty hard on me as of late.” You sighed, suddenly remembering the mountain of final assignments weighing on your shoulders.
Jisung leaned in closer, resting his chin on his hands. “Why? What’s wrong?”
“It’s just--my final project. They’re testing our ability to communicate with and analyze a patient,” you explained. “Kind of like a therapist simulation. We’re supposed to find someone and, like, apply psychological concepts by giving them mock counselling over the course of a few months. And by the end of it, we have to write a conclusive report on their mental state. I can’t find anyone who’s willing to be my patient, which honestly makes sense -- it’s such an invasive topic.”
Jisung was silent for a long moment, dark eyes unreadable. Finally, he sat up a little straighter, cocking his head to the side. “I could be your patient.”
You blinked, mouth falling open. “Wha--are you sure? I mean, you really don’t have to--and it might take up a lot of your time--”
“I wouldn’t mind spending more time with you,” he replied, eyes glinting, and your heart skipped a beat.
“R-really?” You could already feel an incredulous, relieved smile spreading on your blushing face.
Jisung chuckled. “Just to see you smile like that, trust me -- I’d do anything.”
You were infinitely grateful that at that moment, the waitress arrived with your food. You weren’t sure your face could get any redder. You knew you were a hopeless romantic at heart, and had told yourself time and time again not to be swayed by sweet talk, but this was...different. There was something genuinely sweet in Jisung’s words -- he said them so honestly, with an almost childlike simplicity.
You sipped your drink in a feeble attempt to regain composure. “My turn to ask the questions. What’s your favourite food?”
“Cheesecake,” Jisung replied instinctively. You watched him bite into his burger and giggled at the way his round eyes widened even more before he practically inhaled the rest.
“Favourite season?”
“Winter.”
“Least favourite colour?”
Jisung froze, a weighted silence falling over the table. He swallowed, hard, before replying quietly, “Red.”
When you peered at his face, you felt an icy chill trickle down your spine. His warm brown eyes had darkened and grown impossibly wide, and the colour had drained from his cheeks. Had you said something wrong? You looked down at your clothes -- a soft, oversized beige cardigan and light blue jeans.
“W-well, it’s a good thing I’m not wearing red, then, huh?”
“No.” Jisung shook his head slowly, and his shaky gaze met yours. You felt your mouth go dry at how lost his eyes seemed -- bottomless pools of pitch black. “No, I’m sure you would still look pretty in red.”
As if on cue, your cheeks turned a bright cherry hue.
Deciding to change the topic, you cleared your throat. “What about dogs? Do you like dogs?”
Almost as quickly as it had come, the dark look vanished from his face. “I love dogs!”
By the time the waitress brought the bill, Jisung had you in stitches over a joke he’d made, and you’d long forgotten about the whole ordeal.
The rain had stopped when you two stepped outside. Behind the knitted clouds, the sun was setting, its rays of light seeping through the stormy sky like veins in marble. Jisung’s features were painted a soft gold, warm eyes sparkling as he turned around to face you. His hair was a strange colour, you noted -- under the dim lights of the diner, it had appeared a light brown, but now that you were in the sunlight, it looked more blond. It had also been dripping wet, soaked from sweat or rain or both after running all the way to you, but it had dried off now, the ends curling in his eyes.
Maybe you’d had one dose of sugar too many in your drink, because you suddenly found yourself wanting to touch it. So you did just that, fingers reaching for the soft, fluffy golden locks and ruffling them playfully. Jisung’s eyes held yours the entire time, his gaze questioning.
You huffed. “You’re cute, okay?”
He broke into a smile that made your heart flutter. “Okay.”
Cheeks blazing at your own sudden boldness, you quickly pulled your hand away, fingers lightly grazing the side of his cheek before you stepped back. “I--I’m gonna get going now. Thanks for a great time!”
“Of course. See you next time?” Jisung winked, handing you the bouquet of peach roses.
“S-see you!” With that, you turned and practically ran across the street, heart still threatening to leap out of your chest as you fought the butterflies in your stomach and the smile sneaking onto your face.
Behind you, Jisung’s face darkened, smile slipping from his lips as you disappeared from his sight.

Attempting Love Potions
@soulxmakaweek
Day 7: Magic. And what’s more magical than love potions lmao. Yes, I'm pulling the old, "Love Potion No. 9" cliché. BUT WITH A TWIST! Read and find out what that twist is!
Summary: Kim's up to no good, brandishing a love potion guaranteed to make your unrequited love requited. Shame it doesn't seem to work on her intended target...
FF.net // AO3
"C'mon, Maka. You know you waaaant to!" Kim tried to entice, wiggling the little pink vial of liquid in her hand.
The scythe meister scowled at the young witch. "No, Kim. I've told you a thousands times already: I do not want any part of a love potion!"
Maka ignored Kim's pout. Ever since Kim revealed a witch acquaintance of hers had brewed up a love potion guaranteed to make your—quote—"unrequited love requited"—unquote—she had been bugging Maka nonstop to use it on Soul.
The blonde didn't even understand why Kim was so insistent on it. It's not like she liked Soul or anything…
Okay, fine, she'll admit she may be developing feelings for him that may or may not be romantic. HOWEVER, she refused to play Kim's game and force her weapon to develop the same affections toward her.
It was practically inhumane! And probably illegal as Kid hadn't figured out all the details when it came to using forms of magic in this new DWMA/Witch alliance yet…
Kim groaned, "Maka! Everyone knows you and Soul are, like, endgame! Why don't you do every single one of us a favor and speed up the process a little?"
Maka pushed away the proffered drink, "No, Kim. Please stop pushing this. It's making me mad."
She was not above Maka Chopping a friend—ask Soul and Black Star.
Thankfully, the witch backed down, but Maka could tell she was displeased.
"Fine! See if I try helping you gain a love life in the future!"
Maka rolled her eyes, "I don't need anyone's help, thank you very much. If I want a boyfriend, I can get one."
Kim snorted, eyeing Maka up and down, "Not with that figure you ain't."
Maka felt a vein about to burst. Maybe she should go ahead and Maka Chop her. Sure, Kim might get revenge on her in some way, but it wouldn't be anything major considering she knew Kim somewhat feared the scythe meister. After all, Maka did kill Arachne and went toe-to-toe with Kishin Asura.
"Who cares what anyone thinks about my 'figure'?" Maka huffed, "If they were worth anything, they wouldn't care. Anyways, even if I did want to 'speed up' my relationship with Soul—which, by the way, is none of your business—I wouldn't use something as underhanded as a love potion. I want Soul to like me because he chooses to. It's really sleazy trying to force feelings onto somebody, and Soul would never forgive me if I did that to him."
Kim held up her hands in defense, "Okay, okay. I won't bother you about it anymore. Geez, no need to get all noble on me…"
Maka nodded, "Thank you for understanding. I gotta go meet up with Soul now, so I'll see you in Stein's class later today okay?"
Kim waved at her friend's retreating back, "Alright, see you then."
As she watched Maka round the corner, Kim turned her gaze back to the love potion in her hands. She puffed her cheeks out in annoyance. She spent a good amount of money for this bottle!
When her friend Winifred sent out that notice that she had brewed "the perfect love potion," Kim couldn't help but jump on the opportunity. All the students at the DWMA could tell that Maka and Soul were taken with each other, so this felt like the most logical thing to do.
Sure, it may be an…she'll say unorthodox way in getting the two together, but she figured that if Soul started acting desperately in love with his meister then it would kick start his actual real feelings for her.
All the romcoms with love potions ended in happily ever after, who's to say this wouldn't turn out favorably?
Putting the love potion in her pocket, Kim leaned against the wall, waiting for Jackie to meet up with her so they could go to their next class. Across from her she noticed a soda machine. As she stared at it, she felt an idea pop into her head.
Well…Maka did say she didn't want to use the love potion. She never said anything about Kim using it for her own goals.
Goals that happened to involve her two friends getting together, that was.
Letting out an almost sinister giggle, Kim reached into her pocket to locate some change.
----------
Maka and Soul made themselves comfortable in their seats as they waited for Stein to enter the room to begin class. In the row below them, Maka noticed Jacqueline but not her meister.
"Jackie? Where's Kim?" Maka inquired.
The demon lantern shrugged, "I'm not sure. We were on our way here when she told me she had to do something really quick. I asked her if she wanted me to go with her, but she declined and told me to save her seat."
Maka hummed, feeling unease in the pit of her stomach. She hoped this didn't have anything to do with what the two discussed roughly an hour ago…
"Here I am! Sorry for making you wait, Jackie!" Maka was pulled out of her thoughts at the sound of the witch's voice.
She looked normal enough, a bright smile painted on her porcelain face. In each hand were bottles of Coke. Maka felt herself smile. She supposed she was being paranoid over nothing.
"I got us some drinks. Here!" Kim said, placing one bottle in front of her on the desk before offering the second to her weapon.
Jackie frowned, "Kim, you know that I cut out soda from my diet after I got that kidney stone last month. I can't drink that."
Kim's mouth formed an "o" as she dramatically smacked herself in the head, "Oh darn! I completely forgot! Oh well…"
She then turned around, eyeing Soul and Maka…particularly Soul.
"I don't want this to go to waste, so…Soul! Would you like this Coke?"
Soul gave a nonchalant shrug, reaching for the drink, "Sure, whatever."
It was when she saw Kim's triumphant smirk that it hit Maka what game the witch was playing at. Widening her eyes, she reached out to her weapon as he opened the bottle to take a sip.
"Wait, Soul, stop!"
"Yes, Soul, drink it!" Kim exclaimed, grabbing Maka's hand, so she could prevent her from stopping her weapon. She then used her grip on Maka's hand to pull her forward so Maka was the first person Soul saw.
Seeing the strange reaction in front of him, Soul stopped drinking the Coke to give his meister an incredulous stare. "What's the problem?"
Maka blinked at him, biting her lip in anticipation of something happening. But after a minute passed and the only reaction she got out of her weapon was his usual bored expression, Maka felt herself relax before breaking away from Kim's hold.
Kim, on the other hand, gaped at the scythe in shock. "Wait, what?! You look and act the same!"
Soul blinked, his lips turning downwards, "Am…I not supposed to?"
Kim forcefully grabbed the bottle from his hand and sniffed it. Humming in thought she turned back to Soul.
"Did this taste any different to you?"
Soul narrowed his eyes, "I admit, it's a lot sweeter than I thought it'd be. Why? Did you do something to it?"
Kim ignored his questions, chucking the Coke across the room as she ranted and raved about "scams" and how she was going to skin alive some person named Winifred for "making a fool out of her." All the while everyone in the class stared at the pink haired girl as if she had gone crazy.
Soul turned to Maka, confusion clearly written in his red eyes, "What the hell just happened?"
Maka frowned. She knew exactly what happened. However, like Kim, the outcome was not something she expected. The young witch obviously put the love potion in the drink she gave to Soul. Her plan was to trick him into drinking it so it would have the desired effect on him. Only it didn't work.
The question though, was why didn't it work?
Why wasn't Soul in love with Maka?
"Hey, earth to Maka. I asked you a question."
Maka returned Soul's gaze, searching his eyes. They were the same. He really wasn't affected by the magic of the potion.
Before she could explain, she heard the faint rolling of Stein's chair and the subsequent crash of him falling over, indicating the beginning of his class.
"I'll tell you later." She said, hoping by the time the lecture was over and they made it home she'd have come up with an explanation as to why her weapon wasn't head over heels in fake love with her.
----------
An hour and a half later Maka still didn't know the answer.
She and Soul were walking back to their apartment after school was over (the weather was so nice, Maka had begged Soul to forgo using the bike for today). Maka was concentrating silently on her thoughts while Soul trudged afterwards, glancing at his meister every now and then.
"So you gonna tell me what was up with Kim or what?" he asked.
Maka furrowed her brow. In theory the love potion should have worked. Soul didn't love her, so therefore if he had drank the potion he should be acting out of character right now as his emotions were forced to recognize her as the object of his affections. Keyword should. The reality of the situation was that Soul was acting the same, indicating that there was a flaw somewhere in Kim’s plan.
Maybe the potion was faulty? She couldn't imagine a witch selling Kim a product that wouldn't work, but witches were very crafty, so it couldn't be too off the mark.
"Hey, Maka! Are you listening to me?"
Maybe the ingredients of the soft drink messed with the composition of the potion? That seemed like a reach, and she didn't feel the urge to perform experiments in relation to whether carbonation affected your hormone levels or not…
"Maaaaaka!"
Maybe the potion didn’t affect weapons? Or maybe Soul’s Black Blood had something to do with it? Like maybe it protects him from magic and spells. But, wait, then all the magic the witches they’ve faced in the past wouldn’t have affected him either… Ugh, she was getting a headache from all this analyzing.
"Maka Albarn is a scrawny, nerdy bookworm who definitely loves her Papa!"
"Excuse me?!" Maka cried out, halting in her stride. She glared at her partner, feeling the familiar urge to reach for a book.
Soul gave her an infuriating grin, holding his arms over his head in protection of a possible Maka Chop, "I had to get your attention somehow."
She pouted. "What do you want?"
"I want you to tell me what was up with Kim in class this afternoon. You told me you'd explain, so start explaining."
Oh, right. Of course. Even if Maka didn't know the full explanation as to why Kim's plan failed, the least she could do was tell Soul what said plan was.
"Alright, I'll tell you. But don't get mad at me about it because I specifically told her not to do it!"
Soul waved her off, "Yeah, sure. I got it. Now spill."
Maka took a deep breath. "Kim purchased a love potion from a witch friend of hers. She's been wanting to use it on you as a…prank."
She'd rather die than tell him the real reason for why Kim wanted to trick him into drinking the potion.
Soul blanched. "A…love potion?"
Maka nodded. "Yeah, she wanted to see if it would work and make you fall in love. I guess she thought it'd be even funnier if it were me you fell in love with…"
She averted her gaze away from his, unable to handle the look of disgust he must have on his face. She already knew he didn't have feelings for her, no need to rub salt into the wounds at his vehement protesting for why he would never fall for her, ever.
"I can't believe it…" he said, shock lacing his voice. Suddenly she heard him growl, "That meddling little bitch!"
While Maka didn't usually condone Soul's harsh language toward their comrades, she admitted he was justified in his name-calling. After all, she was thinking the same thing when she realized what Kim's plan had been with that Coke.
"I know. I told her it was a bad idea."
"A bad idea?! She was basically gonna drug me!"
"I know! It was definitely not cool!"
"Hell no, it wasn't! And she actually thought her stupid little plan was gonna work? As if!"
Maka felt herself wince. Okay, now she was hearing the part of his rant that she didn't feel inclined to listen to. Again, he was justified in his anger, but it didn't make it hurt any less that he didn't want to fall in love with her.
"I mean, of course I didn't fall in love with you after drinking it! I'm already—"
He immediately fell silent, his teeth audibly clicking together with how strongly he snapped his mouth shut. Maka blinked in shock.
"You're already…what?"
Sweat began to form on the Death Scythe's brow. "Nothing…"
Maka narrowed her eyes, "No, you were going to say something. What were you going to say?"
He began walking again, his pace picking up as he swiftly moved passed her, "I wasn't going to say anything, let's just drop it!"
"Hey, wait up Soul!" she called after him, practically running to catch up to him.
"I'm feeling pasta tonight, are you? What would you rather have, fettuccini or spaghetti?"
"Quit avoiding the subject, Soul!"
"What subject? The only subject I'm talking about is pasta!"
Maka screamed in frustration.
Why did she have to fall in love with this moron?
----------
"Uh-huh… Yeah, okay… I get it now. Sorry for bitching at you earlier, Winnie. I'll see you at the next Witch Mass… Okay, bye!"
Kim sighed as she closed her cell phone. She and Jackie were sitting at Death Bucks, having a quick snack before heading back to the girls' dorm.
Jackie sipped her chai tea, "So what did she say?"
Kim stirred her iced mocha, "Winifred's potion wasn't a scam like I thought it was. Apparently, if the person drinking it lays eyes on the person they're already in love with it then there's no effect. Something about their love cancelling out the fake love or whatever."
Jackie nodded, "So it does work, you just have to be sure your target really doesn't love you."
"Yep…" she trailed off.
The two were silent for a second, sipping their respective drinks before Jacqueline spoke up again.
"Isn't this a good thing though? I mean, that means the reason Soul wasn't affected was because he already loves Maka. We now have concrete proof."
Kim nodded, but she still looked peeved, "Well, duh, of course I'm happy that the number one pair at the DWMA is practically one step closer to being a legit couple—fucking ecstatic actually!"
"But…?"
"But I was robbed of wacky hijinks!" Kim bellowed, "That emotionally constipated scythe was supposed to act stupidly in love with Maka! Think of the blackmail, Jackie! All the glorious blackmail!"
Jackie sighed. Sometimes she wished her meister didn't have such a devious side. "Well, maybe Maka will figure out why the potion didn't work and she and Soul can finally be together."
Before Kim could retort, they were distracted by the sudden appearance of Soul who was sprinting at impressively high speeds passed their table.
The two girls blinked, flabbergasted. Before either of them could comment on the strange occurrence, another figure barreled by.
"SOUL EATER EVANS!" Maka Albarn bellowed, "GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE! YOU CAN'T USE PASTA AS AN EXCUSE FOREVER!"
Once the scythe meister had disappeared from view, Kim turned back to Jackie. Her face was passive, as if what had just happened didn't even faze her.
"Please! It's gonna take those two a miracle to get their shit together!"

We’re Both Idiots
Intro: Hello, lovelies!! I hope you guys are having a good day/night!! This was requested by 🍑 anon, I hope you enjoy, bby!! :)
Note: Slight angst but also fluffy
Word Count: 1478
Hello 🍑 can I request for a kara danvers x femreader story wherein kara caught the reader kissing a guy and then she thought the reader was cheating on her but it was actually for a mission. So kara broke up with her and refused to let her explain. Until alex explained what really happened. Thank you.
Tumblr media
When J’onn called you into his office, you were honestly kind of worried, you were one of the newer agents but you had gone up in the ranks fairly quickly due to your skill, to the point where you worked a lot with Alex Danvers which had led you to meeting her sister Kara, you guys had actually just started dating a few months ago, everything was going rather well with Kara, you guys spent as much time as possible together and Alex seemed to like you as well so that was a major bonus.
When you stepped into J’onn’s office, you watched as he held up a hand since he was on the phone “Yes, of course… I’ll let you know when I know” he said before hanging up, looking at you as he gestured for you to sit down “Agent Y/L/N, Agent Danvers has been telling me that you’ve been improving a lot” he said, looking at you and you feeling your face burn “Yes sir” you said, giving him a nod which he returned “Well, I have an assignment for you” he said, setting a folder in front of you then looking at the door when it opened once more “Sorry I’m late sir… Ma’am” the agent said, nodding towards you before he sat down beside you “You and Agent Smith are going on a mission together, you guys have to act like a couple…” J’onn said, going into further details as he explained the situation to the two of you.
You had tried to call Kara to tell her about the mission you were going on and how you wouldn’t be able to call her for a few days, but there was no answer, so you assumed she was busy and told Alex to let her know if she asked, you and Agent Smith were at the bar you needed to be at, his arm around your waist as the two of you conversed in hushed whispers “Target, 3 o’clock” you said, spotting the guy when you glanced over Smiths shoulder, you having probably looked too long at him since he was now suspicious “He’s suspicious” you said, panicked, you were worried that you had just ruined the mission “Kiss me” Smith said, glancing back over his shoulder to see the target walking towards you guys “What?” You asked, looking at him with wide eyes before he crashed his mouth against yours.
What you didn’t know was that Kara had just walked in with some of the superfriends at that exact moment, her releasing a small gasp when she saw it before she averted her gaze, feeling the tears building up in her eyes before she ran out of the bar, you and Smith separated when you heard the bar door slam open and glanced in that direction, your brow furrowing with worry when you saw the superfriends “Excuse me for a second” you told Smith before you walked over to the others who were shooting you glares, minus Alex who looked apologetic.
“What’s going on here?” You asked, looking at them and looking at Winn when he scoffed “We should be asking you that, you made quite the scene over there” he said, nodding towards Smith who was ordering more drinks while also keeping an eye on the target “What are you talking about?” You asked, confused at what he meant “He’s meaning the fact that you just kissed that guy, Kara saw and she ran out” Nia said, looking at you and you felt your jaw drop before you looked at Alex who looked guilty “You were supposed to tell her!” You said, looking at her and watching as she stood up and gently grabbed your arms “I know, I forgot and I didn’t think you guys would be here” she said, looking at you.
“Anyone care to explain?” Maggie asked, looking between you and Alex, you sighing and rubbing your face, pretty sure you smeared a bit of your makeup in the process but you didn’t care “This is a mission, me and Smith are acting like a couple to get this guy, I couldn’t get ahold of Kara earlier to let her know so I asked Alex, now I gotta go fix this” you said, shaking your head before you stormed outside, finding Kara sitting on the curb with her head in her hands.
After taking a deep breath, you walked over to her, your heels clicking on the sidewalk as you walked before you stopped beside her “Kara? Can we talk? I can explain this-“ cutting yourself off when you saw the glare she shot your way “There’s nothing to talk about, I can’t believe you did this… Am I not good enough for you?” Kara asked, sounding broken as she asked you that “Kara it’s-“ “I don’t want to hear it, Y/N… We’re done” she said, flying away before you could even utter another word, leaving you standing there, unsure what to do anymore.
A few days passed before Kara would talk to anyone, Alex had dragged her out of her room and sat her down on the couch “Kara, just listen to me, okay?” Alex asked, looking at Kara who just gave a shrug and looked at the wall “Y/N didn’t cheat on you, she got a mission with that other agent, she tried to call you and let you know but she couldn’t get ahold of you so she asked me to let you know and it slipped my mind, they were supposed to act like a couple, that’s why they kissed, she’s not cheating on you” she said, resting a hand on Kara’s arm as she stared at the wall, looking conflicted before she let out a huge sigh “I’m such an idiot” she said, dropping her head in her hands while Alex shook her head “No, honey… You reacted just like anyone else would in that situation” Alex said, giving her arm a squeeze “I need to talk to her” Kara said, standing up and Alex nodded before standing up as well “You might want to shower first” watching as Kara smelled herself before making a look of disgust “You’re right”.
You were trying your best to be productive, making yourself do some cleaning around the apartment or making yourself go out for fresh air, currently you were failing at that and were sitting on your couch, eating Y/F/I/C and watching shitty romcom movies “Go away” you said when you heard a knock on your door, sighing and setting your bowl of ice cream down on the coffee table when the knocking didn’t stop “What do-Kara” you said when you opened the door, feeling the tears building up in your eyes once more but shaking them away “Can we talk?” She asked, looking at you and holding up a bag of food “I brought dinner” she said, watching as you gave a small nod before you stepped out of the way.
The two of you sat on the couch in silence, you picking at what was left of your ice cream before you sighed “I’m sorry” you both said, causing you both to look at each other before you barked out a laugh “You first” you said, gesturing to her “I’m sorry for not giving you the chance to explain… Alex told me everything” Kara said, looking at you and gently taking your hand “And I’m an idiot for jumping to conclusions” she said, watching as you set the bowl down once more before shaking your head “You’re not an idiot, you reacted how I would’ve if I was in your shoes” you said, resituating so you could look at her better.
“I’m sorry for not telling you about it, I tried but I should’ve tried harder or sent a text… I was just so excited for my first real mission that I didn’t think” you said, giving her hand a small squeeze and looking at her “So if anyone’s an idiot in this equation, it’s me” you said, pointing to yourself and smiling when Kara laughed “How about we’re both idiots?” She suggested, smiling at you and you nodding “So… Are we okay now? Girlfriends again?” You asked, looking at her and trying not to get your hopes up “We’re okay, we’re girlfriends again” Kara assured, smiling at you before pulling you in for a quick kiss “You do need a shower though” she chuckled, pulling back and watching as you nodded “Which I will do right now” you promised, kissing her once more as you stood up “I’m glad we’re okay” you said, smiling at her “I am too, now go shower, you smell” she said, playfully smacking your ass before laughing as you playfully flipped her off before going to take your shower, the night getting ten times better after that.

Darkroom (Part Six)
Tumblr media
Part One / Two / Three / Four / Five
Pairing: Taehyung x Reader Genre: artist! taehyung, best friend! jimin, college au, fluff, smut, angst Contains: swearing, suicide mention Word Count: 3.2k
Author’s Note: Okay, honestly this was supposed to be a stand alone one shot that I wrote three years after I had stopped writing Darkroom but my housemate inspired me to rewrite it to fit because she didn’t want me to abandon it, so here we are.
You couldn’t help but constantly come back to a city that reminded you of him, all because of a conversation you had years ago in his nearly empty room. Given opportunities, a steady job, free housing— Who would pass up a chance like that? You thought, maybe, he would.
Is that what you’re still up to these days?
You shoved your hands into your coat pockets. A stream of air visibly left your lips as you aimlessly walked by random store fronts. Your reflection reminded you of a time where you stupidly started smoking because you hoped it’d help you stop thinking about him. But thinking about him also made you stop smoking. Maybe he would have told you to quit anyway.
Was that the kind of person you were? It’s getting harder to remember.
Every time you’re here, you’d make an excuse to explore as if you haven’t seen all the touristy spots the first time around. A part of you hoped you’d run into him, but the thought of your paths crossing filled you up with anxiety. You’d fantasize what you’d say to him. If, that is, you’d say anything at all. Most of the time all the daydreaming would leave you a complete mess, whether it was a bubbling one or a sobbing one, it was still a mess. But that was nothing new.
Your phone vibrated in your pocket. You braced yourself for another round of freezing your fingers off as you raised the device to your ear.
“Y/N, where are you?” Your best friend’s voice brought a part of you back into reality. “You were supposed to be here like ten minutes ago.”
“Jimin,” your voice trailed off. You tried to process where you were. “I’m... Lost?” That was your quickest answer.
“What do you mean you’re lost?” There was a hint of panic in his voice. “Geez, I need to stop letting you take public transit by yourself—”
“Sorry, sorry.” You cut him off. If he knew you still felt this way, he wouldn’t let you go around searching for trouble all by yourself. “I see the glass and garden museum—”
“Oh! Okay, go inside and wait in the gift shop. I bet you forgot your gloves today too.”
“... You’re not wrong.” He knew you too well. He always has.
He let out a slight chuckle. “I’ll be there soon.” He hung up.
You found refuge in the shop, weaving between customers and body heat. This city was so, so cold, and yet it never got cold enough to snow, just rain.
You stopped in front of a wall of postcards, thinking about all the times you’ve wanted to send one to him. You never knew his new address, so why did you have a stack of unset mail tucked away in a drawer back home? His name written all of them. Signed: With love.
The postcard’s design was a picture of one of the glass sculptures that hung from a window paneled ceiling. The mixture of orange and yellow glass popped out among the night sky in the background. You wanted to write to him then and there, asking for his opinions, if he’d like to see it with you one day. You knew he’d like it, or at least you hope he’d like it.
You reached for it, with your now warm hands and the goal of buying it to just hide it with the rest of the unsent letters. You instantly retracted your hand the moment it brushed against another’s.
“Sorry,” your voices came out in unison.
“No, I’m—” Your throat closed up for a second as your eyes met.
“Y/N?” His voice echoed in your ears. That voice that you thought you had forgotten, but remembered as if it were yesterday. The voice you remembered saying its goodbyes and you not realizing that was meant to be forever. “It’s been forever.” He smiled softly. “How have you been?”
“It’s been forever,” you repeated after him.
Forever. It wasn’t your choice to never see him again. It was his choice to never see you again. A choice that kept you up all night wondering if it was something you did or said for it to turn out this way. A choice that’d hit you out of nowhere with a whirlwind of emotions as you tried to enjoy an outing with your friends or while you were in the middle of a test you didn’t study for. And you thought it’d be this way. Forever. But forever decided it lasted long enough. And now forever was over. Now a new set of emotions overcome you. A confusing mixture of upset and gladness and maybe relief. You hoped the relief would last forever.
Somehow you managed to say, “I’m fine. Great, actually.” You swallowed. You felt the corners of your mouth twitching from how hard you’re actually smiling. And you wondered what this response was, but at the same time it was almost expected. You wanted to be upset, angry. And yet you’re here, smiling like an idiot, as if he didn’t move and disappear without a word for years. “How are you, Taehyung?”
Saying his name to his face felt so unreal. But this was really happening. You can hear your heart beating in your ears, your face getting hotter by the second, sweat building up under your clothes.
“I’m good. Life’s been treating me well.”
“That’s good.”
You felt his eyes on you, watching, analyzing. Does he know? Can he tell that you’re about to lose whatever is left of your sanity at any moment? It’s hard to tell what he was thinking. Was it always that way?
“Have you been inside the museum yet? It looks even better in real life.” He looked back up at the postcard. You could tell he was trying to make small talk. “So, who were you going to send this to?”
You. But of course you couldn’t tell him that.
“This is kind of… Embarrassing…” Your voice trailed off before you got the chance to spill your guts.
“Oh— You don’t need to tell me if you don’t want to.” He looked at the ground, smiling slightly to himself. “I guess this is kind of embarrassing too. I was actually going to get it for myself. I just collect them. I’m not sure when that started. And I don’t really have much of a reason to. I guess I just think they look cool.” He grabbed one off the wall.
Without thinking you took it from his hand. “I’ll buy it for you,” you blurted out.
“No, no, it’s okay!” He tried to take it, but you hid it behind your back.
“I insist.”
He towered over you, his face inching closer to yours as he attempted to reach around for the postcard. “Y/N,” he grinned. “It’s fine.”
You found yourself stuck, unable to look away from his face. Remembering the cute little mole under his eye, then the tip of his nose, and the one under his lips.
A child running by bumped into you and you fell forward. It wasn’t romantic like in those romcoms, you head-butted his lip and he retracted backwards, covering his mouth.
Your eyes widened. “Taehyung I’m sorry!”
“It’s okay. It was an accident,” he checked his fingers for blood. “I’m okay! I’m okay.”
“Sorry, I’m sorry. Okay now I definitely have to buy this for you, hold on.” You made a dash for the counter a couple steps away, nearly clipping another small child as they chased after the one who probably bumped you. You can hear Taehyung laugh as he trailed behind you.
You quickly made the transaction and handed over the card to him. “Here. I’m sorry, again.”
“What? You’re not going to write something for me?” He playful tilted his head.
You mumbled under your breath, “You’re killing me, Kim Taehyung.”
“Huh?”
“Nothing— Here, just— Ah. Did you want me to? I don’t have a pen…”
He held onto the postcard without taking it. “How about you think of something to write and then give it to me by the end of the day.” He nudged the card towards your body. “We’ll find you a pen later.”
“We? Later?” You didn’t want to look stupid in front of him, but you couldn’t help it. You quickly clenched your jaw after you realized you were staring at him with your mouth open.
“Yeah, later. Unless you have something else to do today?”
“Oh fuck, Ji—”
“Taehyung, who’s your friend?” An unknown woman walked up next to him, locking her arms around his. She glared at you so hard you could have sworn lasers would start shooting out of her eyes. She was beautiful. Of course she would be, it’s Taehyung.
He looked at you, but it felt more like he was looking past, maybe even through you. “She’s an old friend.”
You let out an awkward, almost forced laugh. “Yeah. An old friend. Right.” Right. That was all. Maybe a little more. Or could have been more. There was definitely more. But to him maybe you really were just a friend. Just a photo in an album at the bottom of an old moving box.
“Okay, well, we should be going now.” She began to drag him out.
You just watched him walk away. At least this time you already expected him to walk out of your life. It’s fine. This is fine. It’ll be fine.
He glanced back at you and stopped in his tracks. He gently detached himself from her and walked back over to you. He looked like he was trying hard to find something to say. Looking around as if the words would appear out of the air. He locked eyes with you once again, biting his lip. He really was thinking, but all he could come up with was a hushed, “Run.”
He had a wild look in his eyes as he grabbed your hand and bolted out of the museum, passing the girl he was with earlier. All you could make out was a string of some unkind names as the two of you darted out of earshot. He laughed the whole time. You ran for God knows how long before collapsing on a park bench. The cold air burned with each deep inhale. It hurt, but all you could do was smile.
As you tried to catch your breath you had to ask, “Who was that?”
“Just some girl I’ve been seeing. We met a few weeks ago at a coworker’s party.”
You’ve become more aware of how long you’ve been holding hands and you finally let go.
“It’s not serious though.”
You shove your hands back into your pockets, sitting up straight. “Why did you just ditch her? You’re on a date, right?”
He shrugged. “I’m not that into her. Besides, you’re way more interesting to hang out with.”
“How do you know that? It’s been three years.” You lowered your head to cover your face behind your hair. Your eyes stung, but now was not the time to be crying.
He hummed. “For starters, you nearly split my lip open, insisted on buying me a random postcard, and didn’t stop me from running away from her.”
You didn’t want to cave in so easily, but he knew how to make you smile. You can claim you hate it, but you secretly loved it. The part you hated the most was that he knew you loved it too. He still knew you so well.
“Y/N!” A voice called out from the distance.
You turned your head to the sound. “Jimin!” You shot up out of your seat. “Oh God, I forgot about him,” you mumbled under your breath.
He lightly jogged over. “Why did I just know it was you running out of the museum. I knew I should have just made you stay over at my place while you’re in town. What the hell were you doing? I told you to wait there and—” He finally looked over your shoulder. He grabbed you so fast you didn’t have time to react, shoving you behind him so that he kept you away from Taehyung. “What did you do to her?” His voice came out low.
“Nice to see you too, Jimin.” Taehyung got up with his hands outstretched for a hug.
Jimin stepped back, losing his balance for a moment as he stepped on your foot. “Ah— Sorry.”
“Jimin.” You gently put a hand on his shoulder. “It’s fine. I’m fine.” You tried to give him a reassuring smile. But was this really fine?
He sighed, loosening up. He cleared his throat. “Good to see you too, Taehyung.” He opted for a handshake instead. “Anyway, Y/N and I have somewhere to be. So if you don’t mind, we’ll be leaving.”
You grabbed your best friend’s wrist before he got the chance to walk away. “Wait.”
“What?”
You didn’t know what to say. You just wanted to cherish your time with Taehyung. Even if it was only for a second longer. You didn’t want him to disappear, although it was probably inevitable.
“Hey, I don’t mean to intrude. Sorry.” Taehyung apologized with a tone that was enough to nearly shatter your heart. “I’ll let you be on your way.”
“No. Wait. Please.” You raised your voice as you whipped yourself around to face him. Your head began to spin, your breathing was shallow. You weren’t ready to let him go. It’s too soon.
Please don’t go. Please don’t go. Please don’t go.
“Please don’t go.” You covered your mouth so quickly you practically slapped yourself.
“Y/N,” Jimin whispered, holding on to your shoulder as if it was like he was trying to stop you from shaking.
You held your breath, waiting, wondering what Taehyung will or won’t do.
Taehyung reached for your hands, uncovering them from your mouth. The look on his face. What was that look? You couldn’t understand how an expression could suddenly make you feel so full of love.
“I won’t. I’m here.”
“For how long?” You studied his face, searching for any indication he was lying while at the same time, trying to remember every part of it— the mole placements, the curve of his lips, the way his eyelashes moved as he blinked. Everything. Because you wanted to be ready for when the time comes he’ll leave you once again.
He looked confused. “What do you mean?”
“How long?” You repeated yourself. “How long will this last before you leave me again?” You stepped back, releasing yourself from his hold. “Are you just going to disappear again? Are you just going to leave me alone because I mean nothing more to you than just a friend? Well, friends don’t just up and disappear like that. Without a word. What kind of friend does that? I thought, maybe, I wasn’t just a friend to you. I thought I meant more to you. Like you do for me.”
You began to laugh in the middle of the silence. “Oh, God. I just sound so stupid and pathetic, don’t I?” Your lips quivered as you failed to attempt to keep your tears in. “That was so, so stupid—”
“Jimin,” Taehyung's voice sounded a bit annoyed. “You didn’t tell her?”
“I never got the chance to,” Jimin was frantic. “Now is not the time.”
“What were you going to tell me?” You rubbed your eyes, trying to see Jimin past the blurriness.
“Are you serious? You didn’t fucking tell her?” Taehyung bit his lower lip, trying to keep his cool, but it was obvious he was fuming.
“Tell me fucking what?”
“He told me to leave you alone—”
“Taehyung, shut up.”
“No! No! She needs to know.”
You grabbed Jimin by his coat, shaking him. “Why did you tell him to leave me alone?”
His face looked pale. “Y/N,” he sighed, brushing the little hairs away from your face.
You stiffened up.
“I couldn’t stand to see him with you,” he whispered, almost sounding ashamed.
“Why?” You couldn’t bear the silence, but you already have realized why.
“It’s obvious, isn’t it?” He caressed your tear stained cheek.
You stepped away from him in disbelief. “This isn’t really happening, is it? Jimin, I… I don’t even know what to say to you.”
“Tell me anything.” He accepted his fate.
You glanced at Taehyung. He pursed his lips, raising an eyebrow, his way to encourage you.
“I…” Your eyes settle back on Jimin. Somehow he looked so small, like he wanted to disappear. “I want to be angry with you. I guess I am angry with you. Could you not see how much I was hurting?”
“I did.”
“And you let me fucking feel this way for years?”
“I thought I could win you over. But when weeks turned into months then into a year, and then two, and three... I realized I wouldn’t ever win. It would always be Taehyung. It was too late for me.”
“And you?” You asked Taehyung.
“Jimin was my best friend too. And I didn’t want to get in his way.”
You laughed harder. You couldn’t believe this is where your life has led up to. For the longest time you thought you had done something wrong. That you were the selfish one. Selfish to think you could have someone like Taehyung.
You thought it was karma. You were the bad person. You made yourself out to always be the bad person and you couldn’t even remember what you did, but all you knew is that you deserved it. All those endless nights drinking your sorrows to failed suicide attempts. It was karma for mistreating yourself for all those years, even before Taehyung came into your life. Jimin finding you in the second year of high school, out cold with a bottle of sleeping pills in your hand, waking up to getting your stomach pumped. You did this to yourself because you believed everyone would be better off without you. God was punishing you, but at that point, you had forgotten over what, and it’s laughable.
But maybe you weren’t being selfish. What was wrong about feeling the way you felt? Liking someone? Loving someone? It was okay to love who you loved. You don’t need to be sorry about that. There’s nothing to be sorry about.
“I’m sorry, Jimin.” You said you weren’t going to be sorry, but you couldn’t help but think about all the times Jimin was there for you. This was your karma for everything you put him though, and you accepted his envy, his selfishness.
“You don’t have to be. I should be sorry. I just couldn’t make you happy.”
“Jimin—”
A sudden clash of thunder interrupted you, followed by heavy rain. There hadn’t been any signs it would rain, let alone a thunderstorm. But that was just expected of this city, unpredictable, just like everything else in your life.
Jimin took a step back, this interruption was just what he needed. “I’ll talk to you later. I promise.” He ran off into the direction he came from, disappearing behind the endless rain drops.
You looked up into the sky, feeling the water soak your hair. You closed your eyes and took a deep inhale. You wanted to scream. Then you couldn’t feel the rain on your face. You opened your eyes to find Taehyung shielding the both of you with his coat. He gave you a half smile.
“Let’s get you out of this rain?”
“Can I stay with you? I don’t want to be alone right now.”
“Of course.”

on to 10.16! the valentine’s episode!
fjdkfdjkfd a very worried-looking woman accepts a valentine’s bouquet and i was like, did she kill her husband and he’s lying on the floor somewhere and that’s why she looks so awkward about it? and then there’s a BLOODIED HAMMER and A BODY and i was probably right, omg, i love it.
oh! looks like she maybe called hpd herself? that’s an interesting twist.
oh my gosh, noelani is getting surfing lessons, and that alone is cute enough but then suddenly there’s a whoop and it’s tani on the beach giving vocal emotional support and I LOVE THAT. after a very, very long draught, this season is so good for us when it comes to female friendships.
lou is mad that adam put his niece’s life at risk, and that’s fair, but maybe... also be mad at adam for doing crimes? like, that’s bad? maybe?
fjdkfd we ended the last episode with danny and steve in the kitchen and that’s also their first appearance in this one. this is beautiful.
steve: “i do have a date, indeed.” danny: “with who?” steve: “a lady.” LISTEN, i am taking this as the “a lady” part being not just an evasive maneuver, but intended to be an actual answer, because it could also not have been a lady. bi steve. it’s canon now.
steve LOST COUNT of how many dates he’s been on with brooke (the lady he’s ironing his shirt for on valentine’s day) and he’s kind of smiling while he says it and that’s cute!! i like that for him!! but also. when the fuck did he go on all of these dates with brooke when he was also dating the vet in between, out of the running entirely for at least a month or two, and he’s been continually living with danny since he got back to hawaii and danny apparently knows nothing about these dates. what kind of stealth techniques has steve been employing? has he had brooke sneak in through his bedroom window at night so danny wouldn’t find out? how many times did he have to cancel a date because danny refused to sleep on the couch and there was no space left for brooke in steve’s bed? (i kid, but seriously, what is this timeline?)
danny: “i’m glad somebody has a life.” steve, pointing at danny: “oohhh, tani and quinn are going to the movies tonight...” fdjkfd, first bi steve, and now tani and quinn have a movie date. good stuff. i’m enjoying this.
fjdkfjdkf, steve, whAT. “tell you what, buddy, if i finish up early with brooke, i’ll give you a call, we can hang out.” i mean! that’s really sweet! but also very wtf, because he’s essentially going “hey, maybe this thing i have to do (date my girlfriend, ugh) won’t take very long and we’ll have time to hang! :D” and i just. god. i’m laughing, but i am so glad brooke is not a real woman because i feel very sorry for her.
danny a) recognizes signs of domestic abuse and b) has done his research and c) is appropriately gentle with this woman, even though they have her in custody and she’s already admitted to killing her husband and she potentially started an international conflict by doing so, and just. yes. good. this is a danny i love.
side note: adam is just randomly present at hq with the rest of the team when steve and danny are on the phone with them. and, oh my god. did he not just kidnap a suspect to make a secret deal with a yakuza boss? is that not the sign steve had been looking for, the reason why steve’s spidey sense had been tingling around adam? they still trust him currently and he’s just back on the job without so much as a warning? i mean, to be fair, steve is the type of guy to be all for crazy shit if it gets results, so maybe he’s glad adam did what he did, idk, but i am genuinely so confused at this point about what the writers are telling us about where adam stands, both with the team and in his own life, and with the yakuza, for that matter. is he now an active gang member while also trying to earnestly protect the law in five-0?
i love how this episode is escalating, omg. first we’re told the wife killed her husband, then he’s a thai diplomat, then the wife’s boyfriend killed the husband, then he didn’t, then thailand wants the wife while five-0 knows she didn’t do it and so they STEAL HER. taking a page out of adam’s book, i guess, though at least this time the entire team knows what’s going on.
except for tani and noelani, who are being held hostage by two amateur criminals in a convenience store, which is also a subplot i really like! honestly, not a bad moment in this episode so far.
okay, one very minor note though: please, for the love of all that is holy, do not let this woman they’re saving become a love interest for danny. they have a lovely talk in the back of a truck during the grand escape and that’s wonderful and good and i like it, but i can’t help but be really scared that the show is aiming to somehow make that romantic at some point because oh, dear lord, danny has dated enough abused women under questionable circumstances. doooon’t add a third one to the list, i beg of you.
the amateur criminals are trying to get cash that they need for MEDICAL CARE. god, i hate a world in which your options are a) commit crime or b) die. it’s a good plot, though!
kamekona is providing a safehouse for danny and the woman and he’s being very kamekona about it - warm and welcoming, but warning danny off of texting too much with kamekona’s phone because it’s ten cents per message - and it’s glorious.
oh dear lord. the couple robbing the store can’t afford the surgery the husband needs, so tani presents mandatory medical attention for prisoners as a solution, and that’s a good way to talk the wife down and probably also the best the couple can hope for in their current predicament, but it’s also very fucked up. you shouldn’t have to wave a gun around to get help for your brain tumor.
danny and the woman are found and get arrested, and the VERY NEXT SHOT is danny turning to steve in the car and asking how he got him out so fast. that WAS very fast, danny, you’re right. zero seconds has to be a new record, dang.
steve: “i may have promised yang that if she didn’t release you immediately i was gonna make a whooole lot of noise.” i do understand what this means, but i also enjoy the thought of steve literally making noise. any noise. if you don’t release danny, steve will appear at your door and start quacking like a duck very loudly. you’ve been warned, state department!
ahhh! they solve the case, find the actual killer of the abusive diplomat husband, make sure the wife gets to stay where she is and reunite her with the concerned doctor boyfriend who didn’t kill anybody!! this makes me very happy, all the more so because they won’t have her date danny if she’s already dating someone else, which puts my fears to rest. this season continues to be better about things than this show has been in the past and i appreciate the heck out of it.
adam gets an ominous warning to watch his back from a criminal he’s delivering information about hpd to. are we supposed to be on adam’s side? i’m still very confused.
fjdkfd, danny walks into the house to find the entire team getting ready for a night of hanging out and wonders if he invited everyone and forgot about it, and steve walks in, already chewing on something, and says “it’s possible, because you’re old now”. what a brilliant burn, steve. very impressive.
i won’t recount everything that happens because i know i’d end up writing a stupidly long paragraph but i do adore everything that happens and want that noted. the whole team just chilling and arguing about whether love actually is a romcom or a christmas movie? yes, please! a hundred of those.
danny takes steve aside to tell him he doesn’t have to worry about danny and steve gives an unconvincing reason for why he totally didn’t arrange this because he was worried about danny, which essentially makes it canon that he did plan all of this for that exact reason, which is SO EXTRA. they live together, they’ve spent the entire day together, and then steve cancels a valentine’s dinner with his girlfriend (who he told earlier that he didn’t want to involve danny in their relationship, because he’s too nosy) and invites like six other people just so he can hang out with danny again.
annnd they end up snuggled together on the couch. on valentine’s day. you know, like homies do.
THIS. WAS A VERY GOOD EPISODE. thoroughly enjoyed practically every second of it, 10/10, would like more like this.

Tumblr media
You find the gym empty, which is weird for this time of day, but honestly right now it suits you just fine. You have twenty minutes before Barnes will join you for your training session and you want to get this out of your system before then. No need for him to see you like this. Although you're sure he already knows. Privacy is hard to come by here.
Setting up the target, you don’t bother replacing the Iron Man outline he must have used the last time he was here, because this time you might share whatever it is Barnes has against him. You grab the bag of knives you brought from the supply room before you make your way to the other end of the room and dump them on the floor unceremoniously by tipping the bag over. You take as many as you can hold into your hand and clear your mind, focusing on what you're about to do. There’s at least twenty feet between you and the target now, and while it takes you a few throws to get into the right rhythm, after a short while you’re hitting it throw after throw, more knives finding their way into the bull’s eye than during last week’s session.
You’d like to say it’s because you’ve been practicing, or simply because you’ve found out you’re a natural, but the truth of the matter is that you’re pissed off and anger has always been a good motivator for you.
Barnes comes in early and so you’re still working through your anger when he joins you, your throws becoming more and more frantic, and a sheen of sweat covering your body. Must be quite the sight, you think, but at least he’s smart enough not to comment on it. The last knife finds its way a little off center as it flies towards the target, and like his did last week, it hits the handle of one of the knives already there before it bounces off and lands on the ground.
Using your shirt you wipe some of the sweat off your face and set out to collect your knives so you can start your training session, when suddenly you feel his hand on your arm, holding you in place.
“You ok?”
You let your eyes fall to his hand before you look up at him. People have told you you tend to look like you’re about to hurt someone on average but you guess you really must be shooting daggers now, because he actually lets go of you and takes a step back.
His hands go up in defense, but he actually looks worried, “That bad, huh?”
Some of your anger resolves then, because fuck, this is Barnes, the guy’s lived through enough to not have to bear the brunt of your anger, and so you shake your head, “Not really.” Then, as an afterthought, “Don’t worry about it, Barnes.”
“Bucky,”
“What?”
“Barnes is reserved for when I’m at work,” he grins, “just call me Bucky.”
You’re about to tell him, “Ok,” but there’s a group of recruits coming in then, talking loudly until they spot you, their voices quieting down almost instantly, and so you keep quiet too. You throw them what you hope is a look that tells them to mind their own fucking business. You have a reputation to uphold after all.
He just stares at them from over your shoulder, shaking his head before he looks back at you. “Come on,” he says then, motioning for you to follow him as he walks towards the target and collects the knives, dropping the bag off at the locker room door, muttering something about getting that later.
As you throw one last look over your shoulder you see Nat coming in, who winks at you before she tells the recruits to stop glaring and get into position. You smile back at her before you follow him to one of the side doors that leads directly outside. The sunlight has you blinking as you try to adjust your eyes, the warmth of the afternoon sun a welcome change from the cold temperature in the gym.
He turns around and asks you the same question again, “You ok?”
You nod this time, because you feel a bit better already, “Getting there.”
He motions for you to sit down on the grass and when you do he joins you, sitting down so he’s facing you, pulling his knees up and letting his wrists rest on top of them, his hands playing with a dandelion he picked just moments earlier. He looks at you then, “Does this have anything to do with Steve having to join you on your next mission?”
“Babysitting me, you mean?”
He chuckles, “Yeah.”
Part of you doesn’t want to talk about it any more than that, because this moping around feels safe and at least no one bothers you when you’re in one of your ‘moods’, as Nat likes to call them. Bucky seems genuinely worried about you though and so you start, “Tony and I have this deal,” you look up at him and see him nod, taking this as your cue to continue, “technically I’m part of the team, but I only do solo missions.”
“Because of Padua, right?”
“Right,” you reply. He must have heard what happened, and if he hasn’t he doesn’t ask about it so you don’t bother to explain any further. “Then this morning I get assigned a new mission only to find out in the briefing room that Tony wants Steve to fucking chaperone me!” You scoff, “Gave me some bullshit excuse about quality control, that they want to know if I’m still carrying out my missions to the set standard.” You curse quietly.
“Why?” Bucky seems as surprised as you are.
You sigh. “Last week I was on a mission to extract some files that supposedly link HYDRA to funding the 2016 presidential campaign,” you clear your throat, “I used explosives to draw my target out of his hiding place but apparently Tony thinks I blew up a civilian car just for shits and giggles, allowing my target to escape and causing substantial damage to a few public buildings while I was at it.”
“I know I made a mistake, ok? It’s not like I’ll do it again next time.” You sit up, “but now I don’t get to go on any solo missions until I prove my worth again.” You tut, “Fuck. Don’t get me wrong, I like really Steve, but I don’t need someone tagging along, watching my every move and then tell me what to do when I’ve been going at it alone for the last few years.”
“Welcome to my world,” Bucky counters almost immediately and in such a deadpan manner you can’t help but laugh.
Tumblr media
“I’m working on it, Maria, ok?” you tell her before she even has a chance to say anything. She’s found you in the kitchen where you’re unloading the dishwasher rather aggressively because it’s your fucking turn today and God forbid you forget to do one of your chores around here. Thor, surprisingly, has already lectured you about the importance of taking your responsibilities seriously twice before, and that was just because you forgot to clean the lint out of the dryer after you used it, and you’re not sure you can make it through a third time without losing your damn mind.
She holds her hands up in defense, “Not what I was going to ask, but sure.”
“Sorry,” you try to smile at her, “rough day.”
“I know,” she replies. She leans against the counter, “I was just coming to see how you’re doing.”
She and Steve were in the briefing room with you when Tony told you about his plan and so she got to witness firsthand how you react when you feel betrayed by the two men you trust most. Tony likened it to a tantrum unprecedented by anything a two-year old has ever thrown. Steve never said anything but looked genuinely scared of you. So to say you’re surprised Maria’s even talking to you now is an understatement.
“I’m ok,” you admit, “my training session with Bucky turned into somewhat of a therapy session, so I got most of my anger out.”
She doesn’t say anything, just smiles.
“What?”
“Nothing,” she shakes her head and starts to walk away. Then she turns around, a mischievous grin playing on her lips, “But I guess Steve’s not the only one who gets to call him Bucky anymore.”
Tumblr media
The mission was supposed to be simple. Fly in, gain access to the main server of the facility without making too many casualties, extract the files needed, and be back before dinner. On your own it would probably take around four hours on site and so you figured now that you’re with Steve you could get the job done in just under two. You might be wrong.
“Rogers?” you try again, pressing the comms unit into your ear a little more, “Rogers, report.” Nothing but static fills the air and you’re starting to get worried. He’s been silent for at least five minutes, and even though you agreed to split up so you could cover more ground faster, right now you wish you hadn’t. You decide to retract to your last shared location, but not before you try again, “Rogers, I have what we came for. Can you please report?”
Still nothing.
You let out a frustrated groan. Protocol says you should go back to the Quinjet, call for backup, and then wait it out until they arrive. Of course, you think to yourself, Captain fucking America could be dead by then but at least you’ll have followed protocol. Tony would be so proud. You check your gun, confirming what you already knew, still fifteen rounds left and so you make a quick decision, muttering a quiet, “Fuck protocol.” before you set off to where you last saw Steve.
“Language.”
Tumblr media
“I’ll let Tony know you’re perfectly capable of going out on your own,” Steve says as he turns to you after he’s put the Quinjet on autopilot.
“Thank you,” you reply. There's venom dripping through your voice and even though it really isn’t aimed at him you can see Steve physically recoil. Great. Now you’ve upset Captain America. This might be worse than getting him killed.
Besides Nat, Steve is the one you’re closest too, not in the least because he’s the one who convinced you to join all those years ago on his first ever recruitment mission. And while Nat was the one who got him up to speed with modern technology after he got defrosted, you were the one who supplied him with endless lists. Lists of what movies to watch, which albums to listen to, and books you thought he’d like to read. Then, for every year he missed you made a recap, collecting them all in a binder that you handed him on his first birthday after he came out of the ice.
And while Nat always bears the brunt of your moods in stride, up until now you’ve always been careful not to be too bad-tempered around Steve. It’s hard to pinpoint why, but you guess it’s because he’s so sweet-natured that you’d feel embarrassed if he’d ever did see you lose it, even though he did get a taste of it in the conference room earlier this week, you remind yourself. Woo, boy. Not good.
“Sorry about that,” you say, your voice much softer now.
“It’s ok,” he says, because of course he does.
“It’s just-” you sigh. You don’t want to sound like a whiny brat, but it still upsets you you’re being supervised, “I don’t know. It feels like Tony has it out for me for some reason.”
“Listen, don’t be too hard on Tony, ok?” Steve turns towards you with an apologetic smile. “Ross has been watching our every move for a while now, accusing us that we’re taking unnecessary risks and Tony just doesn’t want to take any chances.”
“Noted,” you reply with nod. You lean back in your chair, watching Steve out of the corner of your eye. He really is one of the good guys, you think, determined then to do whatever you can to make sure Maria can ask him out on a date. They both deserve some happiness, you decide.
Tumblr media
You don’t see Bucky until next Monday, the mission you went on with Steve having interfered with your Thursday session. By now you’ve moved on to actual hand-to-hand combat after you passed some sort of knife-throwing exam he had you go through at the start of the afternoon.
“Alright,” he says as he gathers his hair and ties it into a loose bun at the base of his neck. “We’ll run through it together. Half-speed, ok?”
“Ok.” You resume your position, back towards him so he can attack you from behind after he’s explained exactly what you’re supposed to do to actually block his attack this time. Taking deep breaths to prepare you for the inevitable even though you know what’s coming he still surprises you when he suddenly grabs you.
Remembering what he’s told you, you grab a hold of the hand that’s holding your neck, while at the same time you turn around, mimicking a punch with your other hand, before your almost kick him in the goods.
“Good,” he says with a grin. “We’re going to try that again, but full-speed and no holding back this time, ok?”
“You sure?” you counter with a sly smile, eyeing the loose sweatpants he’s wearing.
“Very,”
You shrug, “Alright, let’s do it.”
He has you walking from one end of the gym to the other, so the attack will even be more of a surprise and you’re almost at the halfway point when you feel his hand on your neck. His grip is tighter than it was before, letting you know you’re playing for keeps now.
You repeat the motions you’ve come to memorize, actually punching him this time, but hesitate when you lift your foot up to kick him.
He takes advantage of your momentary distraction and hooks his leg behind yours, taking you down in one swift move. You’re on your back before you know it, his arm across your chest to hold you in place. There’s a gleam in his eye when he says, “Should have gone for the goods, sweetheart.”
“Speaking about goods,” you say with a wink, letting your eyes drop to where his arm is draped across your chest before you look back up at him again, “you just skipped first base and went straight to second, Barnes. I’d say you owe me a drink for that.”
“Oh shit,” he mutters, quickly pushing himself off. His cheeks are slightly more red when he holds out his hand to you to help you to your feet. “I’m sorry-”
“It’s ok,” you reassure him, because you can tell he’s genuinely upset. He still doesn’t look convinced so you try again, “Really, Bucky, don’t worry about it.”
He smiles then before he gently pushes you towards the locker room, “Let me at least buy you that drink some time then.”
