About 100 employees were laid off in total (8%) and one of the main reasons listed is "underperformance," "sharp drop in popularity" and "poor reception of Lightfall."

So you know when for the last year and a half content creators have been shitting and pissing on the game as a full-time job and the amount of negativity and ragebait content became the only thing to make content about for them? Well they certainly won't take the blame, but I will let it be known. These people either don't understand the influence they have or they do and they're doing it on purpose, and I don't know which of these two options is worse, but I am 100% confident that their campaign of rage and hate contributed to this.

You don't base your entire community around constantly hating everything about the only game you play (despite clearly not enjoying it anymore) and somehow avoid galvanising thousands and thousands of people into perceiving the game negatively. Imagine being employees who have barely worked there for 2 years and the only community reception they've seen is 24/7 hate train for their work and then they get fired because of "poor reception" and "drop in popularity." How can they not take that personally? I am absolutely devastated for these people who delievered a banger product and who were met with an unrelenting barrage of toxic gamer children which ended up having more sway over their boss than them.

Which brings me to the next bit and that's FUCK THE CEO. He is now my mortal enemy #1. I am projecting psychic blasts directly into his brain. What an absolute spineless coward who is more willing to bow down to fucking gamers than to protect his own employees. This is absolutely rage inducing because this has happened before. From the article from 2021 about the toxic culture at Bungie:

Reading this shit from the new article absolutely fucking sent me into blind rage because I immediately remembered this. Another instance of employees suffering because of comments on reddit. And because of toxic players. And proof that leadership is not protecting employees and is instead siding with players.

Match made in heaven. Asshole gamer content creators and asshole CEOs, all of whom sit at home on piles of money made from someone else's labour. I hope they all explode. None of the people that worked on this game deserve this.

Bungie’s decision to cut an estimated 100 jobs from its staff of about 1,200 followed dire management warnings earlier this month of a sharp drop in the popularity of its flagship video game Destiny 2. Just two weeks ago, executives at the Sony-owned game developer told employees that revenue was running 45% below projections for the year, according to people who attended the meeting. Chief Executive Officer Pete Parsons pinned the big miss on weak player retention for Destiny 2, which has faced a poor reception since the release of its latest expansion, Lightfall. The next expansion, The Final Shape, was getting good — not great feedback — and management told those present that they planned to push back the release to June 2024 from February, according the people, who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly. The additional time would give developers a chance to improve the product. In the meantime, Parsons told staff Bungie would be cutting costs, such as for travel, as well as implementing salary and hiring freezes, the people said. But on Monday morning the news got worse: Dozens of staffers woke up to mysterious 15-minute meetings that had been placed on their calendars, which they soon learned were part of a mass layoff. Bungie laid off around 8% of its employees, according to documentation reviewed by Bloomberg. Bungie didn’t respond to requests for comment. Employees who were let go will receive at least three months of severance and three months of Bungie-paid COBRA health insurance, although other benefits, such as expense reimbursements, ended Monday, sending some staff racing to submit their receipts. Laid-off staffers will also receive prorated bonuses, although those who were on a vesting schedule following Sony Group Corp.’s acquisition of Bungie in January 2022 will lose any shares that weren’t vested as of next month. The layoffs are part of a larger money-saving initiative at Sony’s PlayStation unit, which has also cut employees at studios such as Naughty Dog, Media Molecule and its San Mateo office. TD Cowen analyst Doug Creutz wrote in a report Monday that “events over the last few days lead us to believe that PlayStation is undergoing a restructuring.” PlayStation president Jim Ryan announced last month that he plans to resign. Many of the layoffs at Bungie affected the company’s support departments, such as community management and publishing. Remaining Bungie staff were informed that some of those areas will be outsourced moving forward.

Today, November 29, is the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian people. the wonderful folks over at @ashtartheatre requested folks read out the Gaza Monologues, a series of testimonies from Gazan youth in 2010. I’m not much of a voice actor, but @fiercynn put together this collection of creators reading the monologues on YouTube, and I had the honor of making its cover art.

The video was produced by @fiercynn on Tumblr, along with several different voice actors from different countries, with monologues read in English, Arabic, Spanish, and French. VA credits, video links, & more in their linked post above! Please give these wonderful performances a listen.

Please continue to protest, demand your politicians for a permanent ceasefire, educate yourself and your communities, engage in boycotts as led by the BDS Movement, and donate to Palestinian causes both local to you and on the ground in Palestine.

As a casual Watcher fan, it's too little too late.

First off, I want to say that if you're happy with the apology video, that's great! I'm honestly happy for you. I personally don't feel the same, and I wanted to share my two cents.

I think it's a great apology video that addresses all fan concerns... from Friday. The truth is the response took so long to come out that the community dug out a lot of not-so-great things to light. Everything from homophobia, to entitled behaviors, to cost-breakdowns of productions and the company as a whole. Obviously it's impossible to address all of that at once and maintain any kind of focus, and there's plenty of things that frankly could never truly be discussed with the public.

But by waiting so long to respond these questions did arise and are still in the air. If fans are happy to move on for now that's fine but I get the feeling it'll still bite Watcher sooner or later. How will Watcher address the disconnect between their apparent ambitions for large productions and their audience's desires for small, personality-driven content? What new shows do they hope to produce? Will they reconsider their release schedule to create more content? Will fan-provided content appear behind the pay-wall at all for any length of time???

But for me the biggest question is whether they truly originally wanted to remove ALL of their content from YouTube to a new paywalled platform and give viewers one-month notice. To me, judging by the language in their video, their original statement to Variety, and the fact that they did start removing content after the video dropped all points to yes. Yes, they were going to move all their content to an unsecured platform (with no app, captions, international accessibility!) for $6/month. And they never addressed that in the apology video!!!

I personally just can't get past it on top of all the other things that were brought up in the last 72 hours.

The short of it

I’m leaving the Watcher fandom. Don’t worry, I won’t be unfollowing anyone, but I will be ceasing the creation of art for Watcher and interaction with the community at large. Thank you all for this short but meaningful ride. Feel free to unfollow me if you were here for Watcher art, and for those who stick around…

The long of it

It’s been a couple of days since a certain channel dropped an announcement that imploded its fandom. It was… a mess. A lot—and I mean a lot—of us didn’t handle the news well, and we made that known to everyone. The impact was so massive that YouTubers, who are nowhere near the niche that Watcher operates under, covered the situation, and some of them explained very well why the decision went over so poorly. Meanwhile some of them made fun of the situation, and some were just there for the clicks, but that’s the cycle of YouTube drama for you.

With the amount of ears waiting for even a peep out of their mouths, Watcher couldn’t ignore the backlash any longer and released an apology video three days after the announcement. By all accounts, it was a pretty good response. The reception was mixed, but it was definitely more well-received than their first video, and they actually listened to their fans who gave them valid criticism over the sudden shift to a streaming service.

However…

For as much as I appreciate their response, I still can’t find it in myself to continue following Watcher. I really mean it when I say this disaster soured any enjoyment I had for them. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to watch them again for a long time without thinking about this situation or remembering the people they have hurt, even if unintentionally, through their poor execution of a business decision.

Do I believe they could’ve pulled off moving their content to a streaming service? Absolutely. However, so many factors doomed this decision and their announcement from the start from them believing that $5.99/month was “affordable to everyone” (seriously?) to them insisting that this was for the fans even though the fans have vocalized that they were never there for the high production value. They were there because the three guys who run Watcher were enjoyable!

I feel like if they had been honest about the fact that the TV quality they are aiming for was more for themselves than anyone–hell, it’s the mission statement in their About page, and, I don’t know, considered the idea that $6 is not cheap, especially for international fans, people wouldn’t have gotten so angry at them. Now, there are still numerous issues plaguing this business model, but to go through all of the arguments would require a separate post, and I’ve already expended too much energy on this situation. Needless to say, Watcher has burnt their bridges, and it will take a while before they can build them back up again, let alone get people to trust them enough to cross them.

On the other hand, I can’t blame Watcher fully for my departure. Despite my heavy disagreement with their initial decision, I understand why they thought this decision was a good idea in the first place as YouTube is a very unstable career path, and it would rather hurt its creators with its relentless demonetization, censorship and restrictive guidelines than give up just a tiny amount of its profit. Besides, they’re in control of their content, and they could do what they want with it even if their fans disagreed with them.

Speaking of the fans, my god. The situation revealed a side of the fandom that I never thought I would see, but in hindsight, I should have seen it coming. To see fans resort to anti-Asian racism and death threats so quickly was extremely heartbreaking, and as an Asian person, it made me feel very unsafe and unwelcome in the community.

Moreover, using Steven as a scapegoat to absolve Ryan and Shane of any wrongdoing was unfortunately a very common response. Yes, he is the CEO, and yes, his series being centered on traveling and eating expensive food really doesn’t paint him in a positive light, but need I remind you that RYAN AND SHANE ARE GROWN ADULTS. They’re the founders of Watcher, and they both have to agree to the initial plan for it to be implemented. You can’t assume that Steven was a boogeyman terrorizing your precious little boys just based on a 15-minute video. You don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes.

All of this to say that the initial announcement combined with how the community reacted violently to the announcement really nipped my interest in Watcher in the bud. It was a shame too because I really did love Watcher, and I still do. Had it not been for the time I invested in following them, I wouldn’t have made great friends, regained the joy in creating art–even reviving a hobby/skill that I assumed was long dead, and had a reason to be able to laugh or smile even in terrible days. I truly am grateful for Watcher, and I do not regret ever getting into them at all. However, I think it’s time for me to go.

Thank you all for this weird and wonderful ride, but at some point, you’ll have to hop off. I just didn’t expect to hop off it so soon.

If the GoM + KagaKuro + Momoi had YouTube channels

I saw a headcannon post like this a few days ago and thought I'd take my own crack at what I think the YouTube channels of the main cast of KNB would look like if they had them. Hope you enjoy!

[KUROKO]

Mainly on the book side of YouTube.

He likes to do book reviews and book recommendation videos and keep people updated on what he's been reading recently.

He also does this thing where he opens up a Google Form every once in a while and takes suggestions from his subscribers on what to read and then he'll pick a few suggestions at random and give his thoughts in a video.

Sometimes he does vlogs where he hits up his favorite bookstores and encourages people to visit them (he mainly supports local bookstores and also is a big library advocate and often urges his viewers to support their local libraries, too).

On occasion, he uses YouTube shorts or the community tab to post pics and short vids about Nigou like taking him for a walk or dressing him in cute outfits (Nigou is Kuroko's pfp on his channel).

Kuroko also never shows his face in any of his videos and his viewers always get so curious about what he looks like, but when they ask for a face reveal, he never budges.

Because no one can see his face, they focus a lot on his voice and Kuroko has been told by many people that his voice is calming and he could definitely dip his foot into ASMR. He compromises by posting the occasional video of him reading excerpts from his favorite books.

[KAGAMI]

Very much a "ball is life" type of guy. He posts clips of his basketball game highlights from school tournaments. Also posts clips of him playing streetball with his team members from Seirin and sometimes other GoM members if Kuroko invites him to come play.

He posts travel logs, too. It could be something like him heading to LA to visit or to get some basketball training in with Alex. OR he could do "day in the life" vlogs in Japan where he just shows people how he's living. He posts them very sporadically, there's no schedule for any of his vlogs.

I feel like he could also do those "What it's like to live in ____" videos where he tells people about his experiences living in the US and Japan and gives people travel tips he's picked up along the way.

I bet he has YouTube shorts where he films what he eats in a day, and because of the sheer volume of food he consumes, his subscribers always think he's bullshitting because who tf eats that much in 24 hours?

He also does YouTube shorts where he cooks simple dishes. He always gives people an ingredients list so they can try the recipes, too.

He probably has both a domestic and international viewer base because he's bilingual (and I saw a headcanon someone had that Alex taught both Himuro and Kagami some Spanish so maybe he's even trilingual). When talking directly to viewers, he switches between languages a lot.

I bet he does livestreams too every once in a while when he's alone on a basketball court at night and wants some company, so he just props his phone up and comes back to it every so often to read the live chat.

[KISE]

Oh, he's a beauty guru through and through. I know he's got makeup tutorials on his channel. He also does viral makeup challenges (or maybe he creates his own challenges and they go viral on their own).

He also posts a lot of GRWM videos. Sometimes he gets ready for modeling work, and other times he gets ready for school or a basketball game.

Also, he deffo gets sponsorships from cosmetic brands all the time like maybe foundation or face wash. He just has so much social media presence that brands are all lining up to ask Kise to use their products.

I can see him doing vlogs, too. Usually when he's out doing modeling work. He likes to show his subscribers behind-the-scenes stuff about modeling and how the industry works.

He 100% does clothing hauls, too. He likes to pick clothing brands he thinks deserve more love so that his subscribers start shopping there and the brands get more business.

He does livestreams where he does Q&A with his subscribers and talks more about himself there. They're a fan-favorite because subscribers get to see him more laidback and comfy.

I can also see him trying to do simple dance challenges for YouTube shorts as well. He usually tries to drag his Kaijo teammates or even the other GoM into it. Some are more receptive than others, to put it lightly...

[MIDORIMA]

He's a weirdo (said endearingly) on YouTube. He makes content for all the boys and girlies interested in obscure niche topics.

I'm sure a good chunk of what he posts is related to horoscopes and compatibility stuff.

He also does livestreams where he does fortune-telling for his subscribers, usually summoning the power of whatever his lucky item is that day.

I would also like to think he does videos picking apart popular conspiracy theories and then going to war with said conspiracy theorists in the comments.

But then another part of his channel is almost like "study with me" type videos where he shows the process of completing homework or getting ready for an important test/exam.

A lot of people under his comments for those videos ask him for study tips and he freely gives out advice.

There are also people under his comments who talk about how stressed school makes them and he's actually very encouraging and supportive to them in his own way. He's big on motivating his subscribers to try their hardest and not to get too down on themselves if their results aren't as good as they expected. Because of this, his subscribers love to update him on their academic progress, both the good and the bad, and Midorima reads every single one of their comments.

[AOMINE]

Probably the most sporadic poster of them all. Nobody ever knows when this boy will post and he gives no heads up either. YouTube community tab is for losers. You'll see his videos when you see them.

Most of the time he uploads videos they're usually super short, maybe no more than 2 minutes long. And the content of these videos could honestly be about anything.

Sometimes they're clips of gameplay from a video game and other times, it's just him filming random stuff that captures his eye.

He doesn't edit or nothin, he just rawdogs the YouTube experience and posts his videos as they are from his phone.

In a way, you could call some of the videos vlogs, but they're just so short and borderline cryptic that his subscribers don't see them as anything other than shitposts. And that's precisely why Aomine has amassed a sort of cult following.

The non-shitpost short videos are ones where he films himself catching bugs in the summer. Those are actually super cute and wholesome because he likes to share factoids about the bugs he caught.

The only times he does longer videos is if he posts clips from streetball matches he has with the other GoM + KagaKuro. They're usually titled something like "Kicked Kagami's ass in b-ball today". Any and all dislikes on videos like that are solely from Kagami and all the burner accounts he uses to dislike Aomine's videos.

[MURASAKIBARA]

I think his most popular segment would be snack/sweet reviews. Especially when there are new limited edition flavors of something. Sometimes snack brands like to send him mystery boxes for him to open up on camera.

He also likes to talk about what he eats when he travels to new places, giving tips on places to eat in foreign countries that you may not find on an initial search online.

His subscribers treat his word like the holy bible and a lot of them will not trust a snack unless Murasakibara has said it's good. He's like the Keith Lee of snack YouTube. Very wholesome but also holds a lot of authority.

I think he would totally do mukbangs, too. He noticed his subscribers love it the most when he eats crunchy stuff, so a lot of his videos around that are him eating chips or his maiubo sticks. It's basically ASMR, at this point.

While he does mukbangs, he likes to rant talk about his day to his subscribers. They find it very endearing when he gets invested in telling stories.

I remember Fujimaki once saying Murasakibara's alternate future job would be a baker/patissier, so I think Murasakibara would also have content where he's just baking. He likes to take suggestions on what he bakes from subscribers. His taste testers are his Yosen teammates or the GoM if he happens to be down in Tokyo/Kyoto for whatever reason.

The only non-food content he has on his channel is his livestreams, where he plays video games. He either plays cozy farming sims or horror games. There is no in-between.

[AKASHI]

A total equestrian boy. A good chunk of his channel is riding sessions he has with his horse, Yukimaru. He answers questions about horses from his subscribers in the comments all the time. Sometimes you will see him under the comments of other good horse YouTube channels gushing about how beautiful those YouTubers' horses are and how well their owners take care of them. He asks them about certain riding gear he sees them use, too, so he can buy it for himself.

Another chunk of his channel is music-related. He likes to upload videos playing his favorite pieces on both the piano and the violin. He takes song requests from his subscribers, too. Once in a blue moon, he'll even post a piece he composed himself. One time, he posted a video of himself playing the violin for Yukimaru, and his subscribers thought it was the most precious thing ever.

He also posts videos of himself playing shogi, either by himself or whoever he has convinced into playing shogi with him. It's usually Midorima, and he always loses.

Speaking of Midorima, Akashi noticed his "study with me" videos and wanted to try doing it, too. This eventually led to once-a-month livestreams where Akashi studies by himself in his room. This led to his subscribers nicknaming him "Lofi Girl". He did not understand the reference.

He posts basketball stuff on there, too. Usually, stuff he's taken from his own team's practices as he observes them from the sidelines.

He also sometimes posts YouTube shorts of the Uncrowned Kings when he's hanging out with them. They're always candids of them engrossed in a conversation, or when they're goofing off, and during those times, when Akashi feels compelled, he'll sneakily record them and post it later, almost like an archive of memories to look back on and smile.

He's also pretty passionate about mental health and sometimes talks about it on his channel, encouraging people to normalize conversation around it. He gives updates on his own mental health journey (yes, I have a headcannon that he starts going to therapy after the Winter Cup) and his subscribers are always so supportive of him for being open and honest about it. His transparency in turn inspires his subscribers to take their own mental health more seriously and they give Akashi updates of their own. He always loves hearing their progress and always tells them to hang in there.

She loves a lil vlog here and there. She loves showing people what she does on a day-to-day basis. Her editing style is also super adorable.

She also likes to livestream to just talk to her subscribers about anything, really. A lot of times, it ends up being about romance, though.

Her content has a slight overlap with Kise in which she also does GRWM videos. Usually for school or to go into town. Sometimes this bleeds into her doing videos where she puts outfits together for specific situations and gives fashion/makeup advice to subscribers.

She does hauls, too, but it's all bath salts and bath bombs. She has an extensive collection of candles, too, and she loves to tell her subscribers when she gets new stuff.

She's probably also done a room tour, too, I bet. I like to think her bedroom has that gamer-girl vibe. Just all cute shit but at the same time she gets down to business you do not play around with data analyst Momoi.

I would say she also includes the other miracles the most out of everyone. Kise is usually the most willing participant in her videos. They probably team up for makeup challenge videos. Somehow they rope Aomine into them to be their test subject, may God bless his soul.

She also likes to take videos of the GoM when they have get-togethers. Her subscribers get a kick out of seeing their antics and they constantly tell her she has amazing friends. Momoi agrees.

"No, last year, [Frollo] said 'someday.........maybe!'" is played for laughs.

Smiling but very confused during the end of Topsy Turvy, like "oh they like me now, ok, I'm still not really sure what changed in those few seconds-"

Like in a community theatre production I saw, I don't reject Phoebus' help following Quasimodo being attacked.

"Oh no, not me, gargoyle..." is played for laughs like in the Papermill production/boot.

For "But in winter...cold", I actually try to think of something to say before simply settling on "...cold"

I do the "oh I'm gonna fall!" trick more than once during "Top of the World"

Absolutely lovesick during "Heaven's Light"

Straight up BOLTING for the bells at the end of "Emeralda"

Quite confused at the start of "Flight Into Egypt", like "where did Saint Aphrodisius come from???"

My Quasi is the absolute WORST liar. It's a miracle Frollo believes him in the scene following "Flight Into Egypt"-

I do little jazz hands towards the statues when I tell Frollo I'm just talking to "....my friends!" after hiding Phoebus

Starts internally/not so subtly panicking when Frollo puts his lamp on the finger of the statue.

Brief pause before I reply "Yes, your friend!" to Esmeralda. I'm sad that Esmeralda doesn't romantically like me but then it hits me that being her friend is still the greatest honor.

Barely containing anger when Frollo says he could've loved Esmeralda.

I whisper "yes I do" while the gargoyles whisper "yes you do"

I make it a bit more clear that Quasi killing Frollo was spur of the moment and in a blind rage, so when he says the "There lies all I have ever loved" line, and it works a bit better.

I give Phoebus a hug during the "Out There reprise" in the finale.

More of a directorial thing, but I keep the marks on my face, so I'm deformed along WITH the cast. I saw a comment on a video related to the musical (I forget what video tho-) where the acceptance of Quasimodo in the musical is less of "you're beautiful like us" like in the Disney movie and more of "we're ugly like you". I like that a lot more than what the show does. (everyone is deformed other than Quasimodo)

Either the townsfolk reveal they are deformed in their own ways like in the US productions or a crowd gathers around Quasi and young girl who is deaf like him signs "I love you" to him like in the community theatre production I saw.

the process depends on what kind of feedback you're talking about:

a bunch of us on staff are using tumblr all day every day so we naturally see feedback circulating around the community. this is a lot less actionable than you'd think, which is why we encourage people to send in actual feedback via our Support form.

our support folks are reading every support request that comes in

those requests generally make it to one of two places: either it's a bug/glitch and gets filed as a bug report (or added to one if there already was one) or gets added to feedback about a feature for further consideration

we hold weekly bug triage meetings to prioritize those bugs in a big queue for engineers to work on, or send them directly to teams to address

if it's feedback about a specific feature, like one that just launched or changed, the feedback gets funneled to the people working on it for consideration

and this probably isn't the kind of "feedback" you meant, but we also keep an eye on hundreds of pieces of data moving daily/weekly/quarterly/yearly to spot trends in behavior and action on the platform across the millions of people using tumblr. we run A/B tests and experiments as a means of gathering quantitative feedback.

and there's a lot more that contributes as "feedback" that informs what we work on. market data, trends in the social media ecosystem, product development practices, hack days/weeks internally, how our public API is used... there's a lot of feedback in the system, way more than any one person can handle.

Thinking a lot about Nex Benedict.

I guess I don’t have anything to say that hasn’t already been said. Like a lot of you have also said, Nex could have easily been someone I could have been friends with in high school. I grew up with a lot of queer friends, even before I found out I was queer myself, and Nex sounded like anyone I could have known. They liked video games. They had a cat. They had good grades. They could have been any one of the people I had after school clubs or classes or friend groups with back in the day.

What disturbs me the most about their murder was that they were killed by other high school students. Fellow kids. At school. It’s nothing new that hate can be passed from parents to children, and that bullying happens at schools. But these kids became murderers. They killed another kid. We hear about abusive parents and relatives and politicians who target marginalized children, but the murderers here were children themselves, who were in turn a product of a larger hateful community. The Oklahoma government passed laws to target queer indigenous kids like Nex, the school tried to cover up the murder, and they were killed by their own classmates. The state government, the local community, and people in Nex’s personal life were all complicit in their death. A kid being beaten to death by their classmates is horrible enough, but this case runs far deeper than that.

When I was in high school, every story we read in English class had something to do with innate human evil or the loss of innocence. I think of Nex Benedict’s murder and I can’t help but think of many of those stories. I think of the children in The Lottery gathering stones, which will later be used to kill a member of their own community- maybe even their own family members. I think of Ralph weeping at the end of Lord of the Flies when he’s finally rescued, and realizes that the violence and inhumanity he experienced on the island from children his age is just a microcosm of the wider adult world. High school was a time when we learned about all of those things, but at least in my experience, it was in the safety of the classroom and the pages of classic literature and history books. For Nex, and for their own community, that human violence and hatred was present in 2024, in their high school itself.

I’m just sort of numb. I’ve been following global events, and the situations in Palestine and Ukraine. I’ve been following elections and wars and natural disasters. And I’m thinking about how injustice, how things we should all recognize as wrong- like murder- are being treated with such apathy, whether on an international or personal scale. I’m thinking about humanity and what I’ve been taught it was. I’m thinking about all the people who came together to raise money for Nex’s funeral, and all the people who fostered the environment that allowed for their murder.

The presence of each person that shows up to a protest is powerfully felt. Whether or not you interact with anyone else, regardless of whether you even have the courage to join in a chant, your existence within that space sends a message. Your existence there helps other activists feel less alone, and it broadcasts to the international community that we are all watching the genocide that is happening, and that we care. This is why even the organizing of young people on Roblox holds significant meaning, though a protest held on a video game platform by definition is not disruptive to the powers that be. By gathering in such massive numbers, protestors flex the true, untapped power of the people; it’s the first step toward truly organizing the masses for a larger movement toward change. It is not the change unto itself, but it encourages people to begin to think more collectively, and to behave with an interest toward the communal good. Each one of us enjoys a unique position through which we might advance positive change, humble though it might be. Rather than holding our individual selves to impossibly high standards of productivity and perfection, we can recognize that we are small individuals with limited power and sometimes even limited knowledge about a pressing geopolitical situation, who nonetheless have privileges or special gifts that we can help lend to the cause. When we see our work as shared, and appropriately humble ourselves as neither the stars nor the saviors within this story, we can find a place in the fight that’s sustainable in the long term, and that takes optimal advantage of what we do have to give.

The same thing goes for MC since that’s also in conjunction, so easier time in attaining my long term goals and exploring the next step in my life :).

This placement actually really excites me, Mars is exalted on an angle ruling my 10th and 5th houses so this makes me think that I could get a job offer having to do with music most likely.

As for the overall 7h stellium, this is indicative of a social month, I may be making more connections with others that can help me with musical pursuits (Capricorn). I have Pluto @ 29 degrees which makes me think that there will be some permanent changes being made within my partnerships OR external environment.

Okay so it’s important to note here that Mercury is in its exile, ruling the 3rd and 12th houses in my lunar chart and being in Sagittarius…big indicator for procrastination and not taking care of my health and sleeping schedule.

But being conjunct Pluto means that things could be on the mend because Pluto looks deeper as to how we can solve psychological issues so even though I may be less productive or healthy as I should be, I’m doing some psychological digging as to how I can solve these issues that I’ve been having for awhile.

Sagittarius is a hopeful/optimistic sign so I will probably be feeling pretty good about this even if Mercury isn’t doing so well.

Another placement I’m very excited for!! I actually had this aspect last year and I was invited to do a music video with someone and was introduced to a new community and met a lot of new people (though Jupiter being in Aries, I never really continued these connections).

But in this chart, Jupiter is @ 5 degrees which is a degree that signifies important changes being made. Being in Taurus this is about resources and expanding comforts, pleasures, “growing the garden”, so I do see myself either furthering connections I have already made or meeting a whole new group/community of people.

With the precense of Uranus in this house too, I could see this having to do with social media as well. Uranus is at a “bad health” degree and retrograde so even if something were to happen on social media or with my friend group or something having to do with other communities it may make me stressed out and not bring about as many breakthroughs as hoped.

Mutual reception is similar to a conjunction. For those who don’t know what mutual reception is, it’s when 2 planets are in each others signs of domicile (in this example, Venus is in Sagittarius, Sagittarius ruled by Jupiter, and Jupiter in Taurus, Taurus ruled by Venus. Venus is in the territory of Jupiter, and Jupiter is in the territory of Venus).

This is really nice because this includes both benefics AND the Part of Fortune (being conjunct Jupiter). Having to do with the 6th and 11th houses this could indicate success in building a stable following for my music or having comfort/stability with the new communities I create in school this semester.

Regardless in both interpretations, there’s a sense of happiness and success in the communities I’m a part of this month (not to much increased popularity, especially with the 7h stellium which includes the Sun). I may feel more comfortable or have more luck in adapting to the uncomfortable or general circumstances that my social environment poses (having to meet new people in my new classes may be one possible factor I could foresee currently but things could change!)

𝙻𝚒𝚕𝚒𝚝𝚑 𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚓𝚞𝚗𝚌𝚝 𝚗𝚊𝚝𝚊𝚕 𝙸𝙲:

Mental health issues. There’s a potent need for rest and to fulfill my needs whether that be physical/mental necessities. Being in my natal 3rd house, this outburst could have to do with news I’ve heard from other people (maybe getting some difficult news that upsets me?) or it could also be that I really want to stay home still even though I have to come back to school from break (this is a more likely interpretation as for my current circumstances)

𝚅𝚎𝚛𝚝𝚎𝚡 @ 𝟸𝟸 𝚍𝚎𝚐𝚛𝚎𝚎𝚜:

The 22nd degree is known as the “killed or be killed” degree. This degree often comes up in now or never situations so there could be some sort of offer or event that pushes me to get my music endeavors/experience together (5h) or maybe some sort of event pushes me to be more confident in my self-expression (also 5h).

In the lunar chart, this is making a trine to Neptune and an opposition to Uranus. The opposition to Uranus means that the events are unexpected and the “unexpectedness” will likely be coming from friend groups, communities, and/or social media. The trine to Neptune means that although whatever happens may be unexpected, it’s also a very compassionate experience that makes me feel enlightened and more knowledgeable.

Natally, it is on top of my natal Vertex so it is making all the same aspects as it would in my natal chart. Sextile to Venus and trine to my Part of Fortune, so these external events happening to me could still make me feel happy despite what I talked about in the first paragraph. Venus reinforces the idea that it could do with music or at least hobbies/fun of some sort.

To summarize, I see this in 2 ways: a) will have to do with playing music for an audience unexpectely (opposition from 11h Uranus) OR b) I have to conform and manipulate my self-expression in order to fit in with new friends/communities (22 degrees) but it will still be a “glamorous” experience of some sort (Neptune).

A student organization at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) is calling for the expulsion of a prominent professor of Social Anthropology, alleging she was “transphobic.” The Socialist Youth Organization, also known as OJS, is demanding the termination of Dr. Silvia Carrasco, after she had been giving talks discussing the necessity of biological sex classifications in anthropology at the beginning of the semester.

On February 12, the OJS released a video on social media titled “let’s organize against transphobia.” In it, a female student read a speech targeting Carrasco and slamming the university for allowing “untouchable academic freedom” on sensitive subjects.

“Today, classes return to the UAB campus, ideological control returns, reactionary and transphobic speeches return to our classrooms,” she said. “Under the banner of untouchable academic freedom, they allow professors to impart content under ideological and scientific criteria, turning the classroom into a space for the production and legitimization of reactionary and… transphobic speeches… typical of social democratic politics, narratives that try to explain gender oppression from a sexual essentialism from biologist positions.”

Concerns about “trans fraud” have emerged after dozens of male civil servants in one small community changed their gender identity reportedly just to get benefits allocated for females. The wave of gender change approvals follows the implementation of the Trans Law, which eased the regulations surrounding legal identity changes.

In the small, autonomous city of Ceuta alone, it has been revealed that 37 male civil servants have changed their legal gender. Of them, the vast majority are associated with the Military, National Police, Civil Guard, or Local Police, and these new “females” have curiously all chosen to retain their male names and continue their lives “as men.”

One of the men has come forward to boast of his success, stating that he changed his legal gender after the Trans Law was implemented in Spain in March of 2023.

Roberto Perdigones, a 35-year-old Army corporal, changed his legal sex to “female” after deciding he identified as an “intersex bigender” person. Perdigones explained that “externally, I am a straight man and internally a lesbian woman.”

Perdigones says he first discovered that changing his registered sex would afford him benefits after reading an update in the National Police Exam syllabus with a list of “possible” gender identities one may have. Perdigones found a gender description he felt he matched, so pursued the change.

“On the outside, I feel like a heterosexual man, but inside I am a lesbian woman, which is what prevails. That’s why I made the legal change to female,” he says. “I did it because I could,” Perdigones admitted to El Español.

Moscow’s Aggression Against Ukraine And Indigenous Peoples Deeply Interconnected – OpEd

Russia’s acts of genocide against Ukraine arose from its “centuries-long oppression of the indigenous peoples” on its own territory, the native peoples of the Republic of Sakha say. And because these actions remain both unrecognized, they are not only continuing but “spilling over into neighboring countries.”

In a new collective letter released by the Sakha Pacific Association, these peoples describe how Russia has acted toward the indigenous peoples within its current borders and how these actions have both shaped and been affected by its imperialist approach to other peoples beyond those borders.

“Historically, Russia expanded its borders by subjugating territories that were the homelands to many indigenous people,” the letter begins. “Ethnic cleansing, forced relocation, assimilation, russification, cultural erasure, and resource exploitation all went hand in hand with the conquering of these regions.”

“This dark side of Russian history has never been widely discussed or acknowledged, particularly within the country, where the forced hierarchy of cultures and ethnicities has long been normalized, portrayed as natural and reproduced through cultural products.”

Instead, “the idea of “people’s friendship,” proclaimed by the Soviet Union, still influences many people’s opinions. It helped to spread the illusion of homogeneity. Images depict the titular nation, “Russians,” as the center of the narrative, surrounded by minorities” who are presented as “’wild and uncivilized’” and on their way to becoming Russians.

Not surprisingly, these tensions came to a head with Moscow’s declaration of mobilization for its war in Ukraine. “Most of the people drafted from remote areas were either misinformed about the war or had no idea that the draft was happening. Here, 4,883 km away from Moscow, 4,750 men were expected to be recruited.”

This number does not “follow principles of proportionality and the consistency regarding the list of those who were not to be mobilized according to the law.” Moreover, “among then are people over 55 years old, full-time students, people with disabilities, and others off-list who are taken away by this totalitarian system.”

Indeed, “according to the Constitution, it is illegal to draft small-numbered indigenous peoples of the North. Nonetheless, helicopters land in remote, small Arctic communities, gathering people who are uninformed of their rights and can barely speak Russian, to wage war against Ukraine.”

This use of helicopters was especially disturbing and infuriating because the authorities had no trouble sending helicopters to remote villages to seize men even though for years people in Sakha have had to wait for days or weeks or even longer to get a helicopter to take them for medical treatment.

The mobilization order came at the time of seasonal change, a critical period for northern communities. “As the first snow meets the ground, the following questions arise: how will children, the elderly, and women get through the winter in the extreme climate conditions with the absence of essential community members?”

On September 25, Yakut women “organized a peaceful demonstration – hundreds of daughters, sisters and mothers gathered to protest, shouting “No to war!”, “No to mobilization!”, “No to genocide!”. State propaganda attempted to portray it as a rally in favor of mobilization. But all video evidencs, however, show that is a misinterpretation of what actually happened.”

“The widespread international response to this action – mostly among people with no experience of living in a totalitarian country for decades – has been that Yakutians have just woken up and are only against mobilization, not against the war [but] it is important to highlight that the prevailing majority of those who have access to information in the Sakha Republic have never supported the war: simply because it is not our war” (stress supplied).

A week later, the people of Sakha tried to organized another protest, but it was suppressed by security forces brought in from outside the republic because in the view of Moscow “their local colleagues were not active enough” in reining in members of their own nations.

“Our rights are violated by the state we happen to be part of due to imperial gluttony. The illusion that a political regime is trying to immerse society in has no solid ground beneath it. Russia, the Soviet Union, and the Russian Empire have been continuously hostile towards the population of indigenous peoples residing within their territories” (stress supplied).

“The state has managed to take our names, eliminate our languages, exhaust our lands, and pollute our waters. Its long-running campaign involves the current ethnic cleansing as a well-planned move to eradicate indigenous peoples, many of whom no longer exist or have up until now survived in populations of fewer than ten.”

The time has come “for us to speak up and start these complicated conversations, both locally and globally. We must acknowledge the ethnocide of indigenous peoples of Russia as well as the never-ending exploitation of fragile ecosystems that leads to the intensification of global warming processes and has long-lasting effects on a planetary scale.”

“By means of this letter, we seek solidarity with the indigenous communities and their allies worldwide. We would like to ask you to help spread our story and share what is happening to indigenous peoples in Russia.”

IPL AMA

On Feb. 10 via pikabu, Ice-Pick Lodge answered some questions! With a bit of a lovely introduction:

"A new day has begun. In the theater, the Masks have completed the rehearsal, the people from the Termitary are out for a smoke break, and in the Broken Heart tavern they wipe down the glasses."

I translated some Q&As and thought some folks might be interested. They answered questions about the Bachelor, Backer Rewards, Franz and The Void (Turgor). I'm used to videogame communities where, like, five youtubers instantly jump on the smallest scrap of information, so find below a summary of these topics.

BACHELOR ROUTE:

The game has largely gone through pre-production and almost everything has entered the pre-alpha stage, or is in the alpha itself. Currently, they are scripting quests and creating locations and models. Before the Haruspex's route came out, there was access to the alpha, but IPL doesn’t want to write checks it can’t cash, so to speak, so nothing is promised for the Bachelor. Preparing an alpha to show to the public is something that requires its own kind of polish, and they will try to see a public-alpha through, but if not - they might settle for another kind of presentation. Here's some speculation: I believe that IPL has a rough release date for the Bachelor, or one will come soon, that they won't announce. I think they have all of the mechanics down, and now what is left is the aesthetic; as they said, the models.

FRANZ:

SOON. That’s the impression, at least. They have an internal release date, but the reason why they haven’t announced anything yet is because it needed more testing and how it’s going to be distributed on digital platforms was reconsidered. That’s a general theme, here. They have internal dates for ideas, for projects, but the rule of thumb is generally that something will step in the way and they don’t want to make promises they can’t keep. In the meantime, look forward to a future video about the creation of the game and more devlogs.

Also … Interacting with Franz, whether out of anger or care, will naturally require more interaction. Franz is also capable of forgiveness. Step gently.

THE VOID:

No current plans to remaster or recreate or VR-ify or revisit or republish The Void. There have been thoughts on transferring it to mobile because the controls may function well there, but monetization is a bridge they’d need to cross and they’re not there yet.

BACKER ITEMS:

They’re coming !!! In some cases, they’re here !!! Customs can get in the way, is all, but people have gotten their items. Almost like proof, a person posted in the AMA that they received all of their items but also got an extra item - a white card with the black letters r f n e ? Upon asking what it was or what it meant, the response by IPL was basically: Ask the Townsfolk :) The promised book is also making some headway and is being written by Dybowsky and someone else they employed, but they don’t want it to interfere with the Bachelor’s campaign, so progress is ultimately minimal.

MISC:

The dev team is doing well :) There was mention that they’ve expanded. There is also no plan to return the online IPL store. At first, it was a firm no, and then it was a - “not yet.” (I think.) There was also this weird allusion to the Bachelor coming by train, soon? That they had bought him a ticket and he would be arriving? That’s beyond me.
