Morpheus scolding a "yn" close friend or loved one for pulling an academic all-nighter.
time flies.
Summary: You've worked all night, doing a task for The Dreaming. Morpheus finds you at your desk at an ungodly hour.
Pairing: Dream of the Endless x Reader
Warnings: none
A/N: I will not be writing any huge spoilers; I have read the entire Sandman series from start to finish, but I will not give away anything that you don't already know (assuming you've seen Season 1).

It's a dark but peaceful night outside of Dream's castle. The sky is a very dark blue, starless but still lovely. The air about the Dreaming is a gentle breeze, and it's warm outside, as if summer is in full swing.
Morpheus is in a pleasant mood, it seems.
The castle itself, towering over everything else within the Dreaming, is a beautiful structure. The lights inside are a strong gold color, and they cut through the dark.
You've been in the Library of Dreams for a long while, working tirelessly on a task that Lucienne had given you. You're her apprentice — currently studying and remembering some of the titles in the Library.
A large, leather bound book sits open on your table. Next to you stand tall bookshelves, filled with countless books of numerous sizes and colors. You write in this book in front of you, filling out names of mortal authors from long ago and the books they never wrote.
G.K Chesterton.... A.A Milne.... Edgar Allan Poe... William Shakespeare...
"What're yeh doing still here?" asks a gruff voice behind you.
You turn around in your chair and see Merv Pumpkinhead, a sentient jack-o-lantern pumpkin dressed in scarecrow clothes, smoking a cigar. His eyes, for once, are not narrowed — instead, they are open in concern.
"Ah, hi, Merv," you say sleepily. "I'm... writing things down. Lucienne wanted me to study things."
"Yeah, uh, that was a couple hours ago," Merv says. He puffs at his cigar. "Maybe you should get some sleep, huh? Lucienne wouldn't want you to stay up so late. And neither would the Boss Man."
You smile at that. Morpheus.
"What do you think he's doing? Does he need sleep?"
"Who? Boss Man? I dunno, kid. I've never seen him sleep, if that helps your question. But I know you need sleep. That book will be there when you wake up tomorrow." Merv pauses, then continues, awkwardly, "Er, hopefully, it will. Sometimes things are... eaten... by whatever apparitions decide to wander the halls here, late at night..." Quickly, he perks up again. "But! I'm sure it'll be here when you get back here tomorrow morning?"
"It's alright, Merv," you mumble with a smile. "I'll go to bed. I just want to finish a couple more of these, try to rack my brain for any others I might've missed."
Merv sighs. "Alright, kiddo. Suit yourself. I'll leave you be. Just be sure to get some sleep, alright?"
"Alright," you grin. "G'night, Merv."
"Night." Merv takes his leave of you, the only evidence he was ever there is some cigar smoke still lingering in the library.
You turn back around and get back to work. All is silent in the Library, aside from the sound of your pen scratching the paper.
Christopher Marlowe... Jane Austen... J.R.R Tolkien... C.S Lewis...
Your eyes are glued to the paper, your mind racing. You're writing as fast as your mind can think, testing yourself with how many names you can remember.
Suddenly, your mind blanks. Your hand hovers over the paper, the pen in hand. You furrow your brow for a minute, your lips moving soundlessly in an attempt to go over each author you've written down.
You get to St. John the Divine of Patmos when the candle lights flicker all at once, dimming for a time and then coming back up to their full strength. Looking up, you hear another voice speak:
What are you doing here, at this hour?
Morpheus — Dream of the Endless — is standing beside you, looking down at your work, a hand on the chair you're sitting in. His voice is so soft, it doesn't startle you.
"I was... working."
Morpheus blinks. You're exhausted.
"Am I?" you say, trying to shrug off the tiredness that hangs on you. "What time is it?"
It's late, says Dream. Time has no meaning for him. Everyone else is asleep. Mervyn, Matthew, Cain and Abel... even poor Lucienne.
You think on this. If even Lucienne is asleep, it really is an ungodly hour...
What are you working on? Dream asks. What are you writing?
Wordlessly, you show the book to him. He reads over it, and his brow furrows.
You're awake... over this? Dream crouches down to and faces you, his starry eyes filled with worry. You poor thing. This is not needed. Did Lucienne ever check up on you?
"No," you say, truthfully. "But, I know why. She was too busy with the census. That's alright though, I don't mind being here. It's relaxing." You perk up. "But... Merv came to see me, just a few minutes ago."
The tiniest hint of a smile comes up over his face. Indeed? What did he say to you?
"That I should go to bed," you say.
And he was absolutely right. I think this can wait, don't you? Dream gestures with a perfectly manicured hand towards the huge leather book. Then, he lowers his hand and places it on your own.
I miss you, my love, he says gently, his voice now laced with longing. Come to bed.
How could you say no to that?

Your quest for delicious payback begins with something innocuous: a movie night.
Eddie had secured a VHS of Pumpkinhead to celebrate the Halloween season, and he was buzzing with excitement to share one of his favorite horror films with you. Try as you might to be brave, you can’t hide your involuntary flinches as the movie’s demon wreaks havoc on the town.
Eddie wraps his arm behind you on the couch and croons, “Aww, is my girl afraid?”
You huff with fake bravado, “No! I wasn’t expecting- I was just surprised. I’m not afraid.” You stumble over your excuse, and Eddie sees right through your bluff.
“It’s okay, baby,” he placates while rubbing your shoulder. “I’ll protect you from that rotten monster.” His eyes return to the screen as he fights back his grin at seeing you so flustered.
You should have known your boyfriend well enough to realize that wouldn’t be the end of his teasing. Throughout the week, Eddie calls you his little pumpkin and takes great delight in imitating a particularly embarrassing shriek you made during the movie. The real clincher is when Eddie suggests a date at Merrill’s Pumpkin Patch the following week.
Your first stop is the corn maze. The tall cornstalks appear vast, surrounding you as you navigate the labyrinth together. A fork in the maze makes you pause, and you turn to ask Eddie which direction to take. However, you find yourself alone. “Eddie?” you call out to no avail, and your anxiety begins gnawing at you. Where did he go? He was just here a second ago. The sound of rustling behind you catches your attention, and you whirl around just in time to see a figure bursting through the stalks with a pumpkin held up to his head.
"Boo!" he bellows, causing you to rear back with a scream. The person lowers the pumpkin to the ground, and your boyfriend’s snickering face is revealed. He takes in your shocked expression with your hand pressed to your chest in a futile attempt to calm your erratic heartbeat. Eddie at least has the good sense to look ashamed. “I’m sorry, baby. I couldn’t resist. You’re so fun to mess with,” he says with a kiss to your forehead.
You’re so fun to mess with. His assessment rings out in your head, and at that moment, you vow to make him eat those words.
The date resumes with Eddie none the wiser about your scheming. You each select a pumpkin and make plans to create jack o’lanterns together after Eddie’s shift at Thatcher Tire.
What you don’t tell Eddie is that you’ll be getting a little head start on carving your pumpkin…
Later that evening, Eddie returns from work and immediately senses that something is amiss. The living room is dark, save for the soft glow of candles casting eerie shadows across the walls. The space feels cold, devoid of the warmth your presence normally brings him. He hangs his jacket and announces his arrival: “Babe, I’m home!”
He’s met with a ghostly silence.
“Babe?” he asks, voice laced with unease.
Concern begins to simmer in Eddie’s stomach when again he receives no response. He saw your car parked when he arrived home. You should be here. His footsteps echo in the quiet space as he cautiously makes his way farther inside, the anticipation of what might await him building with every step. He rounds the corner heading towards your shared bedroom, and he stops in his tracks when he sees the ominous figure looming by the bed.
“Shit!” he curses, stepping back viscerally. The sight before him startles him, and it takes a moment to decipher what he’s looking at. His eyes are first drawn to the pumpkin resting upon the person’s shoulders with its menacing grin and hollow eyes staring right at him, almost daring him to approach. His gaze travels downward, and he notes the body donning a silk robe. He recognizes that silhouette – he’d recognize it anywhere. You. “Fucking hell, sweetheart. You trying to kill me?”
You hesitate for a moment and consider whether your plan is too much. You remind yourself that Eddie’s playful nature is one of the things you love most about him. His roguish antics often encourage you to lean into your own impishness, and you must trust that he won’t find this too weird.
So, you don’t respond to his question. Instead, you open your robe to reveal the lingerie hiding beneath the silk. Your body is clad in black lace with a garter belt and stockings accentuating your legs. The stark contrast of seeing your body beautifully on display while a terrifying pumpkin’s face glares at him bewilders Eddie. For a moment, his mind teeters between attraction and fear.
Eddie has always heard there were two types of fear responses. Fight or flight. He’d like to add his own entry - fuck.
He visibly gulps, overcome with desire as his eyes devour you. “You are trying to kill me.” He reaches a shaky hand out to stroke your skin, but you step just out of reach.
You tut, “You’ve been teasing me all week. Do you really think you deserve to touch me?” The change in his demeanor is immediate. His shock morphs into a wolfish grin, and he plays his assigned role perfectly. “My sweet girl wants me to beg, is that right?” He approaches you and drops to his knees slowly, all while meeting your eye through the pumpkin carvings.
He exhales softly, “Please let me touch you.” His hand reaches out tentatively, aching to stroke your hip, but he pauses mid-reach. You give the slightest nod of approval, careful not to upend the pumpkin balanced precariously on your shoulders. His fingertips trace feather-light patterns against your skin. “Let me show you just how sorry I am. Let me worship this body like you deserve.”
His thumb strokes against the edge of your panties, until it trails lower towards the tops of your stockings. He looks up at you as he plays with the garter’s clasps before whispering, “I want these thighs wrapped around my head as I devour this pretty pussy. Will you let me?”
Eddie is keenly attuned to your body signals, and he observes the way it shivers at his words. He unclasps the garter belt’s suspenders and lowers your stocking tantalizingly slow while leaving a trail of kisses down your leg. He repeats the process on the other side, and you grow wet with anticipation.  “So fucking pretty for me,” he praises.
Your resolve crumbles when he looks up at you through his thick lashes. You want to be strong and hold out for longer just to extend his torture a bit, but those umber eyes are impossible to deny. Eddie can sense your will dissolving and moves in for the kill. He nuzzles his nose into the front of your panties and inhales deeply. “Let me show you that I deserve to fuck this cunt.”
Your nipples harden, straining against the lace of your bra as you whisper, "Prove it." The command lacks bite, but you’ll both continue playing along. Eddie rises to his feet and kisses your shoulder as he lowers the straps of your bra. He unhooks the band, letting it fall to the floor.
You stand before him naked, and the cool October air pebbles your skin. “Perfect,” he breathes. He gently ushers you towards the bed, and you reach up to remove the pumpkin. Eddie gently grabs your wrist to halt your movement. “The pumpkin stays on.”
You laugh in disbelief. “Eddie, I can barely see with this thing on.”
He strokes his thumb against your wrist before joking, “I know, but that jagged mouth is really doing it for me right now. Plus, it adds to the excitement.” You both laugh as Eddie assists you in laying back due to the weight of the pumpkin threatening to topple you. “Careful,” he soothes as you make yourself comfortable.
In this position, you won’t be able to look at Eddie without straining your neck; all you can see is the pale shadow of your ceiling through the pumpkin’s crude eyeholes. You hear him removing his clothes before joining you on the bed, and you lament that you can’t see his body just yet. But then, he caresses your thigh, and you realize that Eddie is correct. The obstructed view is reminiscent of a blindfold, and your sense of touch is heightened.
Eddie hooks his fingers into the waistband of your underwear to remove them. “Oh sweetheart, look how wet you are for me already,” he coos, seeing your pussy bare before him.
His calloused hands gently coax your thighs further apart, and he nestles himself between them. You sigh as Eddie presses hot, open-mouthed kisses on your lower stomach. He crawls down your body, taking his time to suck and bite at your inner thighs. His kisses grow sloppier with urgency as he nears your core. He moves lower and lower until he’s whispering against your mound. “I want to make you feel so good.”
Your body trembles eagerly waiting for Eddie to give you what you so desperately crave. You gasp as he licks a long stripe up your slit and his tongue explores your folds. Mercifully, Eddie doesn’t tease you for very long. Your needy moans reverberate against the inside of the pumpkin as Eddie wraps his lips around your throbbing bundle of nerves.
“Eddie, please,” you whimper. It’s not lost on you that the tables have turned and you’re now the one begging, “Just like that.” His fleshy mouth vibrates with moans around your clit as you praise him.
You whine as he pulls away briefly to whisper, “You taste so good. So fucking good.” You blindly reach down to grab at his curls, urging him to return to pleasuring your clit. His fingers circle your hole, and he eases two of them into you. The cool sensation of his rings shocks you as he buries his fingers to the hilt, pumping them into you in tandem with his sucking. “More, I need more,” you pant out. You squirm as your pleasure grows, and Eddie takes this as his cue to curl his fingers inside you.
You’re suddenly aware of the mattress shaking, and you muster your strength to lift your head in search of the source. The view is well worth bearing the weight of the pumpkin. Eddie is humping against the bed in a desperate attempt to bring himself some relief. You moan at the sight, “You feel so good, Eddie.”
He increases his efforts, swirling his tongue with more intensity than before. The edge of the pumpkin digs into your neck as you arch your back, overcome with passion. “Cum for me, baby. Cum all over my face,” he urges. His name echoes within the pumpkin’s walls as you climax.
Your senses return to you as you float down from your high, and you become aware that Eddie is still grinding against the mattress. “Have I earned this cunt yet?” he whines.
“Yes, fuck yes. Want your cock so badly.” Your affirmation has Eddie rushing to action, but you stop him by sitting up. “I want to see you fucking me. Either this goes,” You point to the pumpkin, “or we find another way to work this. I need to see your face when you cum.”
You watch through the pumpkin’s crudely carved eyes as Eddie’s expression turns sly. “Is that so?” he asks coyly. He takes your hand and leads you to the dresser and mirror across the room. Your reflection reveals just how ludicrous you look in nothing but a pumpkin head. You giggle at both the sight and Eddie’s fingers gliding down your side, tickling you in their wake. A gasp interrupts your laughter as Eddie’s fingers begin rubbing your sensitive clit while he stares at you through the mirror. “I think this will do just nicely,” he decides.
He bends you over the dresser, and you yelp as his palm connects with your ass. His rings sting your skin, and he revels in the way your cheek bounces. “Naughty little girl, carving your pumpkin without me. We were supposed to do that together,” he mocks. “I guess I’ll just have to recreate my favorite part of making a jack o’lantern. Gonna get into this pretty little hole and rearrange these guts.”
Eddie eases his length into you, and you watch through the mirror as his head falls back with pleasure. The tendons of his neck are gloriously on display, and you wish you could rip the pumpkin off to sink your teeth into his neck. The girth of Eddie’s cock stretches you deliciously, and you meet his thrusts eagerly while mewling.
He sets a punishing pace, and the momentum of his thrusts pushes you pumpkin-first into the mirror. “Shit, babe, are you okay?” he pauses his movements to check on you, but he’s met with your laughter.
“I thought you said you hated that Smashing Pumpkins album. And here you are trying to be just like them.”
Eddie rolls his eyes in response, which makes you laugh even harder. He groans, “I can feel you clenching every time you laugh. You’re squeezing my cock so fucking good.” He returns to fucking you in earnest, and the filthy sound of your skin slapping together fills the air.
You can feel the inkling of another orgasm approaching, and you know Eddie isn’t far behind. “Come on, pumpkin. I want one more from you,” he urges. You whine at his command, already so sensitive from your first orgasm. You reach down and roughly circle your clit with your fingers. That stimulation paired with Eddie’s thrusts push you over the edge for a second time, and you nearly collapse on the dresser. Eddie’s pace becomes sloppy as he chases his orgasm.
“On your knees,” he instructs brusquely. His words surprise and electrify you as you realize what he’s about to do. The sordid image your mind conjures up is enough to make you throb with need, even after you’ve just cum. You’re quick to lower yourself on shaky legs, the carpet coarse on your knees. Eddie pumps himself over you and cums with a guttural moan. Despite sporting a pumpkin on your head, you open your mouth and lay out your tongue instinctively. You’re rewarded as Eddie’s cum drips through the carvings into your awaiting mouth. The salty release coats your tongue, and you swallow every droplet you can catch.
You chastise him coyly, “Eddie, you’re supposed to remove the seeds from a jack o’lantern, not add more.” Laughter brightens his face, and he helps you finally remove the pumpkin.
“Please scare me like this more often,” Eddie says breathlessly. He leans in to lick the corner of your mouth where his cum has dripped onto your face. His lips press to yours in a searing kiss to share the taste of him on his tongue.
“You’re so fun to mess with,” you echo those fateful words back to him.
Later, Eddie proudly displays the pumpkin on your porch. It's a grisly sight with its dent from where you crashed into the mirror. And while your neighbors can't tell, you know that it's been covered in his cum. You try to insist on creating a more attractive pumpkin, but Eddie hushes you with a kiss. “It’s gourdgeous. Our very own little jack off lantern.”

Jack-o-lantern man looks very handsome! Can we get a snippet about him and the reader, please? Happy Halloween either way!
( ;A; ) Ahhhhhhhhhhh!! That is- ahhhhhh I am so flattered that you asked for a story inspired by one of my character drawings! It took a bit to get the time to sit down and get this written, but I made it just in time for the last 10 minutes of Halloween! I hope you enjoy it!
Unknown Pumpkinhead x Anonymous Reader (Sfw)
It was an unusually warm night.
You and a few others were hanging around a large blazing bonfire, a small respire from today’s nightly activities. The patrons who had come to the corn maze have mostly left, and only a few stragglers remained; they stood alongside you and the other volunteers. Drinking hot cider and talking about the day's events.
You lifted your head, past the smoke and flame, up, up, up into the spackled sky full of winking starlight. Halloween was almost over, and the next month was only a sleep away. The end of harvest, the beginning of winter, so told by those who roamed the world many, many moons before you.
You take a deep breath, abandoning your station by the warm fire to take one last walk amongst the rustling whispers of the corn maze.
You begin to walk down the path of flickering jack-o’-lanterns, their wide smiling faces grin up at you from either side. Your path is dimly illuminated until you reach the entrance of the maze. The tall painted sign with pumpkins piled high. You hear someone call your name before you call back over your shoulder.
“I’m going to start taking down the lanterns inside the corn maze!”
You hear the call of affirmation in response before you make the first turn and leave the bonfire behind.
It was a pretty impressive maze compared to last year. Luckily you also had double the volunteers helping out this year too. It started out as just a gig in helping out the local farmers in your community and it had turned into the thing you looked forward to every year. It was a lot of hard work, from the set up, to the take down, but being able to roam the maze as many times as you liked had made it all worth it in the end.
Your favorite time was right now, when it was just you, the soft soothing rustle of leaves, with the moon and stars above. It was peaceful and magical, the kind of subtle magic that made you feel alive. You could have ran that maze all night long under the blanket of night.
With the first lantern in hand, you hold it aloft, traveling further into the field. Blowing out candles and gathering up the lanterns.
You had an armful of them now, and had just turned around to make your way back to the entrance, when laughter made your ears perk up. It was the kind of laughter that giggling mischievous kids would make. Ones who were reveling in the glee of their own deviousness.
You frown, you had been under the impression that the last visitors were out standing beside the large fire. You thought someone had already swept the field and verified that it was empty. You call out in the direction of the sound projecting your voice towards where you thought the sound of the laughter had come from.
“The corn maze is going to be closing, I’m coming around to collect the lanterns!”
The air around you fell silent as you waited for a reply, “There’s a bonfire out front, and hot cider—“ You began again, but then you heard the sound of footfalls, running down the dirt road away from you. You joustle to set down your armful of dark lanterns, turning the corner just in time to make out a bouncing glow of light held aloft by a small dark shadow.
“H-Hey!” You gawk before chasing after them, your mind jumping to the conclusion that they had nabbed one of the lights and was trying to make off with their prize.
You chased the small figure the best you could through the twisting, turning maze. Wind tugging at your clothes as your feet rushed through the dirt path tamped down by past wanderers.
“Hey!” You call out again in frusteration, the last turn you had lost whoever had been running. Tumbling almost head first into a dead end. It’s just one lantern right? You’ll have to head back and tell the others what happened. It was probably one of the well known troublemakers, something that would be returned in the morning by an apologetic parent.
You do a slow circle around to get a look at your surroundings, giving a grumpy sigh. The maze has been going on for about a week now, and you felt that you knew your way around pretty well. . . Or so you thought.
You attempt to make your way back, but the paths that look familiar to you, lead to places you don’t remember. You press your fingers to your lips, pausing for the 3rd time to gather your barings. You honestly can’t remember being this turned around in here. You could call for help, and you grimace at the thought of pulling the others away from their enjoyment of the fire just because you wanted to start fetching the lanterns.
You do another slow pivot, looking at the paths before you and recounting your steps. Just then, you see a faint light glowing, a whistled tune carried forth on the breeze. The bobbing lantern is heading in your direction, and you hesitate for a moment before head towards the source of light. You hope it’s one of your co-workers
But instead you see the figure of a scarecrow, a thick buttoned collar around their neck, and their baggy clothes tied with a length of rope around their middle. Dark pants and shoes. Atop their head sat a curious looking pumpkin, it’s jagged face seemed to be illuminated by some flickering light source. As you raise your hand in a wave they spot you.
The pumpkin face re-arranging itself into a strange but cheerful expression. It stunned you for a moment.
“Well hello there! Happy Halloween!”
The jagged mouth opened and closed in the most peculiar way.
“Y-you’re mask. . . that’s animatronic right?”
The pumpkinhead pauses before guffawing with a loud bout of laughter. They had doubled over from laughing so hard, hands on their knees as they wheeze. You stare at them in disbelief, just what’s so funny? You were only asking about their costume.
When they finally right themselves,
They make a gesture underneath an eye socket as if wiping away a tear.
“Hehe, absolutely! It’s pretty neat don’t you think?”
The curve of their jagged mouth pinches up higher at the corners, and you carefully watch them
“Right. . .” You murmur, eyeing them wearily, “You know. . . you’re not supposed to be out here right? The corn maze closed about ten minutes ago.”
The stranger bounces the palm of their hand against the pumpkin’s forehead.
“Oh gee! Time to go home already? And I was having so much fun!” Then their voice turns sly, “Say. . . do you happen to know the way out of here? It’s hard to tell where you are when you’re in the middle of a field.” they tut sardonically, “It all just, begins to look the same.”
Your eyebrows pinch together, expression souring at the teasing tone in their voice.
The grinning face changes, you watch the corners of the mouth bow down slightly, “It’s dark, I mean. Anyone can make a mistake like that.”
“I’m sorry,” You rub your eyes, trying to ward off the tiredness that was creeping into your temper, and hoping that was also why the pumpkinheads face was looking so strange in the flickering light. “It’s been a long day, and I’m getting a bit tired.”
“Long day?” The cheerfullness and reappeared in their voice and they hold their lantern aloft grinning at you. “I know this field like the back of my hand, let’s talk and walk, shall we?”

Pumpkinhead 🎃 Eddie Munson x gn!reader

He’s doing this all wrong. Aren’t you supposed to visit the pumpkin patch during the day and the corn maze at night!?
Eddie’s leading you by the hand through the rows and rows of pumpkins scattered all across the fields under the moonlight; each stack of pumpkins looking like menacing ghouls rather than colorful harvest from how the shadows stretch out over the grass.
“Eddie, why are we out here?”
You hug yourself with your free arm, despite being all bundled up in your thickest wool scarf.  There’s something chilling about how each of your steps that are crunching on the dead leaves sound louder when there’s nothing but silence all around you – except for the sporadic, ominous hoot of an owl in the far distance, along with the shrieking wind.
“I wanna see if the legend is true!”
You roll your eyes playfully, “what legend?”
“The one about the –  Pumpkinhead killer!” He growls, emulating the sound of a monster, turning to you with wide eyes and the grin of an absolute madman under the full moon.
“You’re totally making that up!”
“I’m not, it IS a thing! It’s like the fucked-up version of The Great Pumpkin from Charlie Brown.”
He squeezes your hand to pull you closer to him, before placing an arm around you while gesturing with the other.
“They say if you visit a pumpkin patch at night,” he intones in a grave voice, “You'll see the Pumpkinhead killer roaming around the fields! a monster made out of pumpkin guts! going out to slash up the people that didn’t leave out their jack-o-lanterns lit all Halloween night!”
“Why don’t you just admit you brought me out here to make out with me?”
He straightens up comically, face going dead serious, “I mean I did, but humor me here.”
“Alright, fine. So how do we conjure up this thing?”
“Geez, I don’t know, it doesn’t necessarily say in a handbook or anything. Try it out by singing Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads, that ought to wake anyone up from the dead!”
“See! You’re totally making it up!”
You’re both cackling after he starts to sing – down to the bass riff and the french words of the chorus – laughing so hard your belly hurts, and you can’t help but push him back until his back hits the wall of the barn in the middle of the pumpkin patch, perfect to shut him up with a giggly kiss.
For a while there, you’d totally forgotten what you’d been on about, immersed in the kiss and trying to absorb as much as you could of Eddie’s body heat with how the night had turned impossibly colder.
When suddenly, there’s a crackling noise in the near distance, making you break away from the kiss.
“Did you hear that?” you whisper.
“Probably someone that came in search of the Pumpkinhead Killer like us!”
Eddie brushes you off, nipping at the corner of your mouth as you turn to look around you.
“No I’m serious! listen –”
Another step, this time closer to you, followed by an unearthly low groan.
“Eddie, we’re all alone here, what –”
Eddie’s eyes open wide  – mouth gaping and arms trembling as he holds you closer to him and desperately whispers, “don’t turn around, don’t turn around, don’t turn around!”
“Eddie, this isn’t funny!”
“I’m not joking!”
You daren’t move – except for your eyeballs, gazing towards the wall in front of you, paralyzing you on the spot when you see it.
A gigantic shadow: its monstrous shape stretching out two twig-like arms and claws for fingers, charging towards you.
You scrunch your eyes shut and hide your face in Eddie’s chest as you prepare for the worst – gagging at the sickly scent of pumpkin guts all around you…

JACK sees his friend as a mentor and someone deserving of reverence after whom he should model his life and behaviour. He thinks of them like a child regards their parent, but Jack is fearful of scorn and only expresses this attachment via accidental terms of endearment and the instinct to find them when he is injured or frightened.
This hesitancy to assert himself prevents Jack from employing more than a hit-or-miss approach to keeping them around, relying on the frailty of his body to garner sympathy and convince them that he needs supervision.
In moments of excitement, such as after his friend helps him repair himself or narrowly escapes from a dangerous encounter with Mombi or the Deadly Desert, Jack rambles about the personal importance of their friendship.
He confesses to never having felt more connected to someone in hopes that his friend will reciprocate the affection and permit him to address them as a parental figure.
Jack has a feeble sense of independence and is far more comfortable with enabling his friend to, metaphorically or physically, hold his hand through life. He grows timid and indecisive whenever they leave his sight, fearing that some terrible accident will befall them and they will never return.
Every journey, even a short walk from the Emerald City or a trip to the marketplace, is met with his request to accompany them.
For the innocent mind of Jack, the worst thing he could be is useless, and the worst crime he could be guilty of is appearing ungrateful for their companionship. Along with wanting his friend to always be in arm's reach so he can feel assured of their presence, Jack spares no opportunity to assist them in whatever task they may undertake.
He gives his best efforts and is reluctant to admit any difficulties even if he has no idea how to do something, for his greatest worry is that his friend will decide to handle it themselves and deem him unworthy of their time.
Every word spoken to his friend is reconsidered and doubted for fear that an unknown complication will ambush him and ruin the exchange, potentially damaging the relationship by extension. Jack seeks not to inconvenience them and freely abandons his wellbeing and opinions if preserving them means endangering or contradicting his friend.

Toby, ben and ej with a friend who's some sort of halloween monster? Like a pumpkin head type deal or something. They can show up during the year but they only really stay in their dimension for a while during october
Pumpkin heads are a slept on aesthetic
Toby
Toby has a pumpkin-smashing tic.
So this is an interesting friendship.
The first time he saw you, he nearly dropkicked you on the spot.
It still startles you during the fall season when Toby full-on curb stomps a pumpkin and then starts panicking and apologizing.
With you being a non-human, Toby will never run out of questions for you. Not even almost a year into your relationship.
Or pumpkin puns, for that matter. Or...Pun-pkins.
But other than that, during the normal year, being friends with you is just a normal thing like the sky being blue or Slender being bald.
But once Halloween rolls around, and you make it known that you have to leave for a month Toby is distraught.
He's going to be alone for a whole month! Who else is he going to make pumpkin puns with? Or crunch through an array of warm-colored leaves?? Masky?? Hell no.
But, alas, he must accept it as he hugs you goodbye for the fifth time.
As you take care of your duties elsewhere, Toby texts their out-of-service phone with his October activities, like making a pumpkin head scarecrow and then accidentally stomping it, being chased by The Rake (but it's an actual rake), and getting sick off of candy corn.
He doesn't want you to miss a single moment while you're gone, and as you look through the messages when you return, you almost felt like you never left.
Ben
Oh, he thinks you're so cool-looking!
He wanted to make friends with you immediately upon first sight.
Yeah, he came off as a little creepy at first, but you learned to love his laid-back yet unsettling personality.
He's actually adorably geeky around you.
There's a lot of things that Ben can't wait to show you, like research he has found on your kind, pumpkin head memes, halloween games, lore on Jack Skellington being a pumpkinhead, it's just endless.
You just smile and nod along, feeding his excitement and laughing at his memes.
During the autumn months, you encourage Ben to visit pumpkin patches, nature walks, and abandoned buildings with you. Half to get him out of the house, and half because you know he'll love these locations as a ghost.
They'll call to him just as they call to you, and once you bring him there, he'll never want to leave.
Even after you leave for your Halloween duties, Ben spends his time in pumpkin patches, working away from home on his laptop that struggles to pick up nearby wifi.
It reminds him of you, and your journeys together in the outdoors, and maybe he'll stay for another hour. Or two, or three.
Eyeless Jack
It's one thing to be friends with another abnormal creature.
But it's an entirely different book when it's someone who doesn't quite look human.
Ben is a ghost, but he has human features. Laughing Jack may tower over others, but Jack still thinks he looks relatively normal, even considering his friend's jagged teeth, pale skin, and pointed nose.
Jack doesn't view himself as normal, and leans his views towards a monstrosity that eats organs to survive.
But you, a fellow humanoid creature, he can find comfort in.
Jack isn't the most talkative person, but you can tell in his subtle ways that he appreciates your presence and friendship.
He will, however, continuously find new ways to ask you about your anatomy. In a totally not weird way, of course!
Being a borderline doctor, he's overly curious about you without making it too personal or uncomfortable.
(Mostly because he's too shy to ask).
But you have quite a unique friendship with Jack. He's quiet yet boyishly funny, secluded yet curious, and he's always surprising you with something new about him and how much he cares to listen to you.
He gives you books, pumpkin-themed items, scarfs, and even head accessories that you mentioned you like.
And when you leave for October, Jack is s o lonely. Yes, he has Dr. Smiley and Laughing Jack as companions, but they're not y o u.
He doesn't take autumn-scented walks through the forest with them, or gaze in curiosity at them when they talk about the many lives they have led in their time alive.
He has no choice but to wait for your return, and maybe buy a non-carved pumpkin to decorate his room in the meantime.
