Out of My League (Midoriya Izuku X Reader X Bakugou Katsuki) PART 1
Tumblr media

I LOOOOOOVES me some love triangles... XD And ooh this one’s gonna have some fluff and some angst in here honeys~. School’s almost over~. So I get to write this!!
Featuring! Deku and Kacchan! And You guys!!
But somehow I can't believe That anything should happen I know where I belong And nothing's going to happen, yeah
-’She’s so High’ Tal Bachman
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmmSAFWhyu0
It was true what they said about high school clichés.
There will always be jocks, popular bitches, preppy kids, emo kids, nerds, basket cases, class-clowns, rockers, perverts, shrinking violets and the occasional criminals.
You knew that because you were currently attending UA High with your best friends. Sure, this was a school for young students training to become pro-heroes, but it was still a high school, and naturally the high school students ACTED like high school students.
But you didn’t always entirely care about what people thought about you, or at least you tried to not care about what people thought about you. All that mattered was that you had your best friends, and the new batch of awesome friends you made during your time in UA.
It wasn’t always easy though since your two childhood friends just kind semi-hated each other, well, one of them was more upfront about it, the other one still cared a lot about him.
Yes, your best friends were Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo. Everyone knew that because they would all see you walking with either Izuku, Bakugo or sometimes both of them when you managed to convince them to just try and tolerate each other. Well… Bakugo at least.
You felt close to both of them, but you tried to make time for both of them so neither of them felt neglected. Bakugo was an asshole 98 percent of the time, but you cared about him and you cherished your friendship with him warts and all. He had a soft side, you knew it, even though you seldom saw it. Izuku? Well, you never really had any problems with him at all.
But as soon as you three grew up, things started changing…
Izuku was gradually becoming more popular, because people finally saw his charisma. And many were becoming drawn to his kind, helpful nature, his determination, wicked intelligence and overall good-boy attitude.
Bakugo was still popular, except you could tell that he was slowly maturing. But what didn’t change was his aggressive attitude, competitiveness, expertise in fighting, book smarts and the cutthroat personality.
And then there was you…
Now you were never really that popular to begin with, kind of like Izuku, except you were even more under the radar given your casual, somewhat absurd and weird attitude, tendency to make lame jokes, interest in geeky things like anime, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Netflix and old punk bands like MCR and Sum 41 or Avril Lavigne and Panic! At The Disco. And you weren’t particularly that powerful or intelligent, hell studying was your enemy, but your telekinesis quirk was pretty useful on some occasions.
Overall, you weren’t oblivious as you would at times walk with either Izuku or Bakugo, and you would notice some of the looks other students were giving you three. Especially some of the girls, who were looking at Izuku and Bakugo rather fondly, even giggling as the two boys walked past them without even paying attention. But as soon as they saw you, their giggles increased, and it wasn’t because they liked you.
Whatever. You told yourself as you let out a small burp and decided to go and hang out with Izuku’s crew a.k.a ‘The Dekusquad’. Again. You adored his new friends though, most of them at least. Talking with Uraraka was hella awkward because you did not entirely like the girl, at least compared to the other girls. Particularly because of how Izuku acted around her, no you weren’t jealous or anything. And if you were, you weren’t going to admit it. However, Tsuyu, Iida, Todoroki and Aoyama were all fantastic and you liked them a lot.
Izuku was fantastic, you were so glad that you stuck by him the entire time and attended the same schools as him. He never minded your company, made regular eye contact with you (as much as the shy boy could at least) and even talked to you and let you talk about the dorky things you liked because you would listen to him talk about anything he liked too. He was just great. How could you not want to stay friends with someone like that?
You would also hang out with Bakugo’s crew a.k.a ‘The Bakusquad’ every now and then too, on the occasions when Bakugo would actually let you come close to him.  You loved all of them, especially Kirishima, they were all just so fun, full of life and pretty sweet too compared to their chosen leader. Bakugo wasn’t exactly kind to you, and he wasn’t shy about showing it in front of his friends, but he wouldn’t seriously hurt you.
Except maybe your feelings.
Bakugo was a different story compared to Izuku. You and he used to be real close, but much like with Izuku, as soon as his quirk manifested his attitude changed and he chose to bully other students he saw as below him. Especially Izuku, but you weren’t safe either, he bullied you too and mocked you for your telekinesis quirk, and several other things such as your eating habits, interest in TV and other things.
While he didn’t exactly hurt you like he did Izuku, he wasn’t above pushing you to the ground or throwing things at you especially when you stood by Izuku to try and defend him.
You weren’t the most observant child in the world, but you did notice some things that others didn’t you liked to think. Such as how when a bird would land so close to a tree to pick up a flower, or whenever a spider was crawling about and no one could see it.
And how Izuku was such a kind boy, never ceasing to help people out who needed it even if they did push him away and then mock him for his lack of a quirk and they would say ‘how could YOU help?’ and it made you angry.
But what could you do? You were young so you weren’t sure how to really help your poor friend other than be his friend whenever someone was mean to him. You thought as you watched him admiring the snow and catching a small flake and he was blissfully unaware that you were staring at him.
He was actually kinda cute…
WHACK!
You let out a loud ‘AH!’ when you felt a ball of snow smack you in the back of your head, “EEK! Cold! Cold!” And you shrieked when the VERY cold ice pieces instantly melted on your warm skin and made it cold…
“HAHA! (Y/N)’s got a boyfriend~!”
It was Bakugo. Of course it was bratty Bakugo picking on you and throwing snowballs at you, he was always, ALWAYS looking for a chance to pick on you or Izuku anytime he found one. And to make matters worse now he was insisting something icky about you and your friend!
“N-NO I DON’T!” You immediately shouted back as your face turned hot, and you finally saw that Izuku had turned to see you and Bakugo shouting at each other, “Hey Deku! (Y/N)’s your girlfriend now~!” And he didn’t spare Izuku, he never did, he always had to make fun of him too.
“W-What?!” But the poor boy turned bright red at the thought, he couldn’t have a girlfriend! He was too young! Being a girlfriend meant being a mama and daddy…
“K-Katsuki shut up! He’s not my boyfriend!” You were less naïve than that, but you still yelled back at Bakugo for being a jerk. And he was still making fun of you and laughing at you, but the worst part is he actually looked happy when he was teasing you. You hated that he was smiling because Bakugo had a cute smile…
Just not a cute mouth…
“Losers belong together! So it’s perfect isn’t it? The girl with the lame mind quirk and the quirkless nerd.” He then shoved you to the snow so he could sneer down at you, snickering when he saw you trying to glare at him.
“Kacchan stop it…!” Izuku was at least sweet enough to try and stop him, but it wasn’t working either. Bakugo was quick to get a snowball much to the other boy’s shock as he stood his ground in terror. Only to shriek when Bakugo’s fastball suddenly whacked him right in the face and sent him falling to the snowy ground.
“HAHA!”
Bakugo laughed at both yours and Izuku’s expense. He always did. Izuku got up from the ground though. He always did. And you honestly weren’t sure what to do. You never did.
You disapproved of Bakugo’s meanness, but always tried to at least help Izuku.  Those things you always did.
PRESENT
You were older now, all grown up in fact! In your opinion, so you were sure you knew what to do now for the most part.
Except for now…
The year was almost ending, and there was an upcoming ball to celebrate the end of the second semester called ‘The UA Ball’ and then students would get that 2 week Winter break that everyone was so looking forward too. Yeah you were sure some of your classmates and friends were going to be training during the break but still, everyone was getting a break. And THAT’s what you were looking forward to so you could just stay home all day, watch Friends, Game of Thrones of The Office and snuggle in the blankets and then train later.
But you had this ball to get over with first…
You had no idea why you cared about it so much, it’s not like you even enjoyed dancing or dances in general. Those were invented for the prettier girls and the handsome boys, not for anyone else who couldn’t fall in line with those labels…
No one ever asked you out, and no one wanted to go out with you either. You remembered that pretty well just last year!
LAST YEAR
Sadie Hawkins.
You wanted hack whoever invented that bullshit with a machete. And also punch whoever decided it was a good idea to bring that concept to your Japanese school in the face. The girls had to ask out the guys, but you could barely ask the guy at McDonalds to fix your burger that he screwed up without feeling like you would stutter and stumble on your words.
On top of that you were pretty sure that no guy would want to go with you even if you asked. You weren’t smart back then because for some reason you thought Bakugo of all people would want to go to the dance with you. And you weren’t even in the same classes together, just the same grade and you still knew each other.
Of course at that time, his attitude changed for the worst even more from when you were 6 years old and now he decided that it was perfectly fine to treat you and Izuku like garbage and he wasn’t above taunting you or bullying you like he did Izuku. Except he treated Izuku just slightly worse than you.
The logical side of you was screaming at you to turn back as you nervously glanced at Bakugo with his sycophantic cronies and barely took a step forward to approach him, but the emotional side of you was saying ‘Just ask him already! He might say yes!’
Dammit why did you have to crush on him? He was an asshole, so why did you like him? Was it because you guys were friends at a time? Was it because he still looked at you at least once or twice a month and still gave you (negative) attention? Or was it also because he grew up to be even cuter and even a little handsome now that he was older?
You had no idea…
“Uh… ahhh uh…” You opened your mouth, but barely any volume or words came out and you thoroughly became self-conscious of yourself and froze the second Bakugo’s vermilion eyes met your (E/C) eyes as your body trembled. Dammit your hair was a mess, as it always was but it was still not pretty, and you even tried to wear your favorite (D/S) socks in an attempt to look cute.
“What do you want Shitty Girl?” Bakugo hated it when you stuttered because it made you look even weaker than you already were, and yet he was smirking when you tried to talk again. It was so amusing to see you try…
“Um… uhhh…” You stammered and Bakugo just kept staring at you as his cronies snickered at you, which made your face heat up even more as you closed your eyes and heard your heart beating in your ears so loud you thought it was going to pop out of your chest. “K-Katsuki… I uh… we… we’ve… k-known each other f-for a while a-and uh… w-we uh… live close to each other a-and uh… l-like the… there’s gonna be… d-dance in like three days…” You finally got it out but you couldn’t see the smirk on his face and you froze as soon as you heard him snicker.
“Oh God… you’re not seriously asking me out to the dance are you…?” His question was like a bullet to your beating heart as you opened your eyes, face going bright red as the boys started laughing and making you sweat in your forehead, pits and back.
“N-No…! Haha no… ohhh hell no… dance…? I don’t… I can’t even…” You shook your head and tried to laugh with him even though Bakugo’s laughter was directed at you.
“Good.” However, Bakugo’s tone turned a little less casual and a bit cooler even though he still kept that smirk on, but it looked much crueler. “Cuz I’m gonna put this to you nicely… guys prefer to be with cute girls, which is why you shouldn’t be asking out guys, especially not me, I’m way out of your league. You’re a fucking dork, and you’re gross. I wouldn’t dance with you if you were the last girl on earth.” He moved closer to you just so you could hear everything he had to say to you, even though you were constantly glancing down and refusing the let tears well in your eyes as you willed your lip to not quiver.
“O-Okay…”
Why did you just say okay?! Why didn’t you smack him? You were so angry you wanted to, but you were also so sad you wanted to cry and run away. “Good, now get lost.” Bakugo gestured for you to leave and you did…
God you were pathetic, and they knew it as they laughed at you when you walked away for a bit and then broke out into a sprint as far away as possible, letting some tears slip out until you were outside. Wiping at your eyes angrily as your breath hitched, “S-Stupid! Stupid Katsuki… I hate you… I hate you so much…” You sniffled and quietly cried to yourself…
“(Y/N)?”
But you stopped and gasped when you heard Izuku’s concerned voice, and there he was approaching you with a very worried look. “A-Are you all right?! Are you crying…?”
“N-No!” You were NOT going to look pathetic in front of Izuku, the last thing you wanted was to vent to him about how much of a jerk Bakugo was. Again. “No I’m just… ugh allergies…” You lied really badly but Izuku was kind enough to not pry anything out of you.
“O-Okay… um… h-how about we go home?” He suggested to you nicely, in hopes that it would get your mind off of whatever was really bothering you, and you nodded at that.
Izuku was so sweet, he was way too sweet to put up with all the shit Bakugo put him through. You glanced at him fondly when he wasn’t looking as the two of you walked home together as you often did, and quickly enough to avoid Bakugo picking on you both again. Maybe Izuku would want to go out with you?
“Izuku…?” You suddenly asked, your emotions acting without your brains permission as you shook when Izuku looked right at you as soon as you called him. “Y-Yes?” He paid his full attention to you. He cared about you, and if you needed him for anything he’d do whatever he can to help you, sure he didn’t have a quirk but he wanted to at least be a good friend to you.
You swallowed hard as you felt his sweet big eyes on you as you struggled to ask, again… except somehow this was easier than it was with Bakugo… sort of. “I… uh… w-well… um…” You were stuttering again, but Izuku was being patient with you instead and was actually more worried than anything because of how anxious you looked. “Izuku we… w-we’re friends right…?” You asked him that instead and he perked up, and started blushing quite madly even though yes, he considered you a very dear friend. Possibly his best friend since Bakugo became such a jerk over the years…
“O-Of course! I-I uh… yeah! (Y/N) you’re one of my… m-my best friends… m-my only friend…” He mumbled rather bashfully and somewhat sadly since although he was okay with his solitude, he liked having a friend by his side too.
You smiled at him tenderly but shyly, blushing quite heavily yourself, “W-Well uh… m-maybe… uh… h-how about you and I…?”
Izuku gasped quietly, blushing even harder because he remembered the dance, and it was that Sadie Hawkins style where the girls ask out the guys. Were you going to ask him out?! It made him so nervous yet excited he was trembling and heard his heartbeat drumming loudly in his chest.
You somehow caught onto his nerves but thought that you were making him uncomfortable instead so you quickly nixed it. “G-Go see a movie maybe…?” Your question immediately deflated the excitement he had…
What was he thinking? Of course you weren’t going to ask a loser like him to the dance. You were way too good for him and he wasn’t good enough for you. You were way out of his league.
“Oh… y-yeah… sure… I would like that…” He knew it wasn’t a date, because he had gone to hang out with you at times as friends. That’s all you guys were… just friends…
“Hee-hee awesome… I mean… it’s just… everyone’s going to that dance and… dances are just so dumb… like… we don’t need to be a part of that bullshit ya know?” You asked him with a bit of a forced smile, and Izuku smiled back at you, it was forced as well.
“Y-Yeah… i-it is… kinda dumb…” He pretended to agree with you, although it WAS a little dumb he still wouldn’t mind it if you asked him out. But he knew you’d never ask him out…
Because you and him were just friends.
PRESENT
You and Izuku were just friends. You and Katsuki were just friends.
They were just friends with you and that was all, and yet for some reason that really made you groan and bury your head into your desk. At least until you looked over to see Uraraka smiling and happily talking to Izuku, who looked extremely flustered just talking to the girl.
That’s right. Uraraka was a girl. He told you that much when he first met her, and what did that make you?
You narrowed your eyes at her in annoyance as you scoffed. You take that back, you were jealous of the girl and frankly you didn’t really care that you were, you were never a fan of her.
Dances were dumb. You stood by that. At least…
“Hey…! (Y/N)!” You saw a familiar, INVISIBLE face right in front of you, well you couldn’t actually SEE her face but you knew by the floating clothes that it was no one other than Hagakure. “Hey Tooru…” You mumbled lowly, thankful for her though because you were getting tired of being by yourself and didn’t feel like bothering Izuku’s friends or Bakugo’s friends. Out of the girls, Hagakure was your closest friend.
“I see you looking at Midoriya again~.” She was giggling and probably cheekily grinning at you and you rolled your eyes and blushed, “He’s my friend, of course I’m going to look at him…”
“Bakugo’s your friend too but you look at him a bit differently. Hee-hee… but he’s kinda mean so… I see why you’d rather look at Midoriya. He’s so nice!” She chirped a bit and you smiled and nodded, he was SO nice.
“Yeah… he really is…” You said rather fondly and Tooru put her hands on your shoulders. “And that’s why you need to ask him out.” She said so suddenly you perked up and widened your eyes.
“W-What…?! A-Are you cray?! No way…! I… tried once and… it didn’t go well…” You muttered, even though it was Katsuki it didn’t go well with…
“Oh?”
“Okay I’m lying no no it was Katsuki I asked first… that went horribly… I tried to ask Izuku but… I chickened out and… I dunno… maybe it’s the universe’s way of saying something…” You sighed heavily as Hagakure paid attention to you, smiling even though you couldn’t see it.
She so knew that you liked Izuku, and she was determined to help you win his heart, “Well you can redeem yourself! Ask him out to the dance! This is your chance to do that now!” Hagakure said cheerfully but you just blushed even more, even though she had a point.
But you and Izuku were just friends…
You told yourself that, “Argh I don’t know Tooru… he’s like my best guy friend… what if he thinks I’m weird? Ugh god and I’d be sticking with that lame-ass cliché that guys and girls can’t be just friends? Oh my GOD what the fuck’s wrong with me…?”
“Hey, hey! Cliches don’t matter in real life! Midoriya happens to be your best guy friend and it’s okay if you like him! I mean he is pretty cute isn’t he?”
“Are you kidding? He’s as cute as an otter slithering in a swimming pool with it’s little whiskers and paw-paws…” Putting your hands on your cheeks you quietly squealed when you envisioned the little otter in a swimming pool, and then Izuku was in the swimming pool with the otter swimming around him and giving him those little kisses.
“AHHHH!”
That time you didn’t hold back that squeal as Hagakure jumped a bit, “Ah! Hee-hee… oh gosh… yeah you totally like him, and you totally wanna ask him out~.” She teased you a little bit as you blushed and pouted a little bit, dammit you did want to ask him out… not just to make up for your botched attempt, but also because you really wanted to ask Izuku out. He deserved to be asked out, and you… you liked him… you were certain you liked him…
Part of you still liked Bakugo, but Izuku… you couldn’t forget Izuku either…
“Okay… I will…!” You whispered with a determined voice as Hagakure quietly cheered for you. That’s it. It was time to stop being such a nervous nilly and just go and ask him out already. How bad could it be? You were both just friends going to a dance right? Yeah… who cares if Izuku had muscles now? And who cares if he’s so cute and yet attractive?
Man how did both of your childhood friends grow up to be so attractive? Of the three of you altogether, you were definitely their DUFF...
Everyone else was certainly intending to ask out someone they found attractive, ESPECIALLY Kaminari and Mineta...
“I can’t wait to see the girls in their dresses...! Oh God I hope it’s something that shows skin...!” Mineta was drooling and blushing at the mere thought as Kaminari’s friends just glared at him in disgust. Kaminari KINDA hoped the same but he wouldn’t be vocal about it like that... he had more respect for the girls than that...
“Heh, well... I can’t wait for this dance, maybe I’ll get lucky~.” You could hear Kaminari talking to Bakugo, Kirishima and Sero though as you got up from your desk. “Ya think so dude?” Sero was a BIT skeptical though as he kinda poked fun at his friend.
“Haha I don’t know if I’m asking anyone… how about you Bakugo? Got anyone you wanna ask out~?” Kirishima was a bit shy when it came to things like that, but wouldn’t shy away from asking his friends about it, except Bakugo could honestly care less about dumb dances.
“HELL NO! Dances are fucking stupid and a waste of time… I don’t get why schools even have them in the first place, they’re pointless…” He angrily grumbled; it was true though he never ever got the point of dances. They were stupid and on top of that hardly anyone was worth going with, no one was good enough for him to give the time of day. He hated dancing too, and he remembered that time where he was almost asked out.
Oh that’s right, YOU had tried to ask him out and he kinda cruelly rejected you. He remembered that, and he felt… bad…? No, why would he feel bad? He didn’t wanna go to the dance with you, you were just some dumb girl that stuck to him and Deku like glue and didn’t go away. You were just slightly less annoying than Deku, that’s why he picked on you. You were a dork, and he liked picking on you because you were a dork.
What were you thinking asking him out last year? He was the most talented guy at school, he couldn’t just go to the dance with a dork… it’s not like it was anything personal or anything. Of course he didn’t forget that you seemed pretty upset about it, but at the time he didn’t care if he hurt your feelings. He still didn’t… or at least he tried to tell himself that he didn’t, but for some reason it was making him feel bad about it.
It’s not like you liked dances anyway, you weren’t a dancer and he remembered how you’d stick your tongue out and go ‘Ewwww!’ with him whenever you, him and Izuku watched some movies where they’d have those gross kissing scenes.
That just wasn’t you.
“Izuku!”
However his eyes widened as soon as he heard you call Deku. God you STILL called him Izuku, dammit why did he hate it whenever you called him by his first name instead of Deku? He told you from the beginning that Izuku is ‘Deku’ but you still called him Izuku.
And Izuku perked up in surprise when he was called, looking a tad bit startled as he looked at you, concerned. “(Y-Y/N)? Are you… okay?” He asked you as Uraraka, Iida and a few other classmates looked at you and you realized that you called him a little louder than you intended to.
“I uh…”
Oh God you were stuttering again, and it never ceased to amuse Bakugo. You were SUCH a dork it was almost endearing.
“Uhhh… ummm… uhhhh… oh fuck it… Izuku I need to talk to you about something school-related…” You ignored the looks you were getting and the rather surprised look from Izuku and didn’t notice the shock on Bakugo’s face.
What did you need to talk to DEKU for? It was SO not school-related…
To be continued...

Dearly Departed: Chapter 2
Word count: 840 Warnings: (Past) Major Character Death  Summary: At a time in his life where hope seemed to be a ghost of the past, Izuku stumbles upon a latent quirk that shows him another ghost.  Pairing: None (Platonic BakuDeku, for now at least) Chapter 1 ~~~~~~~~
“Deku! Oi, Deku! ... DEKU!!!”
A head of curly green hair suddenly jolted up only to be smacked with a thick manila folder stuffed full of official documents. Wincing at the pain he looked up to the now-familiar sight of the ghost of his childhood friend smirking down at him. It wasn’t hard to deduce that he’d fallen asleep at his desk yet again, what more with work on top of him this time. It’s wasn’t a rare occurrence.
“Finally,” Katsuki’s ghost breathed out a sigh, “You know it’s a miracle you made lead detective, even with my help.” The spirit shook his head before helping himself up onto the wooden desk feeling absolutely no remorse as he made more room for himself by sweeping off stray papers.
“Kacchan, it’s not fair that you criticize me for having a messy office when you make your fair share of the mess.” Truth be told there was absolutely no reason that paperwork was now strewn about. It had been discovered years ago that Katsuki could not only interact with simple objects in the living world but could also phase through anything he chooses.
“Think of it this way, it’ll get your ass out of that chair.” The other’s words were as smug as ever. All the Police Detective could do was sigh in response. He didn’t even get the chance to respond before his office door was being opened.
“Hey Midoriya, you up?” The sight of shoulder-length black hair, tied back in a small tail, came through the crack in the doorway. Red eyes caught sight of the detective sitting at his desk which prompted a sharp-toothed smile as he stepped into the office the rest of the way. Enter Kirishima Eijiro, head of the K-9 unit for the Musutafu police department.
“I'm up,” Midoriya responded, (making an attempt at) running a hand through his mess of hair, “Sorry Kirishima, I hope you weren't waiting for me to wake for long.”
“Don't sweat it,” The shark-toothed smile widened at that, “Everyone knows you work your ass off here every day. It's no problem if you ask me. I was just heading in this direction and was asked to hand off some files for you the tech guys pulled up. Wanted to make sure they made it inside your office at least.”
Izuku gave his thanks and took the requested information off the K-9 officer's hands. With that, they both parted ways with a promise to talk off the clock some other time. As soon as Eijiro was out of earshot the detective let out a held breath and his posture slumped as he relaxed. He set the new file of papers to go through aside before once again resting his head in arms he'd folded atop the desk.
“I had that dream again Kacchan,” He mumbled aloud. That in itself made the ghost freeze up. The two had this unspoken agreement between them not to talk about the day Katsuki had shown up again or the two-week-long gap between when the blond had died and when he came back. While they wouldn’t actively talk about it, both of them were well aware of how sensitive a topic that time, and dreams of it, could be even as a little over a decade had passed.
At a loss for words for once in his (after)life, Katsuki made no moves to reply in any way. The tense silence was only broken moments later when Izuku let out a breathy chuckle. “I’m glad Kacchan woke me when he did. It would have been bad if I’d been caught napping again.” It was what was left unsaid that they both knew mattered much more than being found sleeping on the job.
Katsuki had no memories when he’d first appeared. Seeing the look of confusion on the ash blond’s face at a, once, all too familiar nickname hurt Izuku almost as much as it had the day of the incident. Almost like losing Kacchan twice. Over time, he’d expected the apparition to simply disappear, thinking it was nothing more than an illusion his brain cooked up in a panicked attempt to bring him some sense of comfort. Only when the memories started slowly coming back months later did Izuku realize that not only was this real, but he finally found out that he wasn’t quirkless after all.
“Tsk, yeah well, leave it to a shitty nerd to keep hanging onto the past. I'm here now idiot; and it's not like I could leave, even if I wanted to.” The grumble and scowl on Katsuki hadn't changed, but the years had rounded out some of his edges. His vocabulary was one thing he stubbornly refused to change, even if he was getting better emotionally. Still, though he didn't say it explicitly, Izuku understood the meaning.
“Sorry, I know it's scary. But I'm here, and I don't want to go again.”
“Thank you Kacchan,” The smile shown to the specter may not have been the widest, but it was genuine. After resting in the soft atmosphere of the moment he picked his head up and set to work. He had mysteries to solve, people to find, justice to serve, and outlaws to arrest.

Ruby Red and Caramel Ch 9: Juice Pack
Chapter Summary: Momo pretends to be a hero.
Relationship(s): Bakugou Katsuki/Yaoyorozu Momo; mentioned Kaminari Denki/Ojiro Mashirao; implied Todoroki Shouto/Uraraka Ochako; still with traces of Awase Yosetsu/Yaoyorozu Momo; Todoroki Enji & Todoroki Shouto; Bakugou Katsuki & Best Jeanist
Rating: T (violence!)
Warnings/Notes: this is late and full of action sequences! pls forgive me
She doesn’t listen to the horrified screams around her, or the crumbling of concrete under her feet. She doesn’t listen to the thrum of pure adrenaline through her blood. She doesn’t listen to the small, rational voice in her head that tells her to be absolutely terrified about what’s happening.
There is no time for hesitation.
Before she truly understands what she’s doing, she steps back and blocks the creature’s attack with a ballistic shield she creates out of the flesh of her arms. Through torn sleeves, she grits her teeth and pushes the creature back and away from Katsuki, Kyoka, and Kirishima, who are frozen where they stand.
“Kirishima!” she yells. In the next second, the redhead snaps out of it and hardens himself. One of the monster’s limbs armed with a rammer soars down, hitting Kirishima’s hardened body before it crushes him down to the concrete.
The sound of metal against flesh rings loud and painful in the air. Kirishima cries in pain and parts of his hardened skin starts to bleed. Still, he grits his teeth and holds against the strike. This gives Momo a small window to create another object over the skin of her belly. She flings the bottle and shuts her eyes, screams for everyone to stand down.
The Molotov hits the monster straight in the face, giving it hardly a moment before being blinded by fire and noise.
“Holy shit!” Katsuki shouts within the screams and flare--despite the situation, he looks at her with mouth agape in awe and admiration.
The monster flinches and screeches, but even as parts of its skin burn, its strikes are relentless against her shield and Kirishima. In fact, the assault seems to have made it angrier and stronger, and with each strike Momo feels her arms weakening, only able to hold on when Kyoka steps next to her to keep her hand on the handle steady.
“What-- ow --does it want from us?!” Kirishima says from a steady series of hits from a hammer-clad limb. Momo moves her hand to create another bomb from her body, but stops when she feels a burning-hot calloused hand over hers.
Katsuki grits his teeth, eyes on the monster in front of him. “Fuck if we know, but I ain’t sittin’ pretty here until we find out!”
Before any of them can stop him, he’s already flying mid-air with residue of his blasts trailing behind him, hands glowing with potent explosives aimed right at the monster’s face. They gasp when the monster stops its assault on their shields and turns to Katsuki, arms raised as if to snatch him from mid-air.
It’s only a few moments, but that’s all that Momo’s brain needs to make alarming conclusions--that the monster is sent here with a target, and its target is Katsuki. And Katsuki is gravitating towards its open arms, about to be captured, unless Momo does something in the next second--
“No!”
A weapon that she barely thinks about materializes in her hands. Without thinking any further, she leaps on the outer surface of the shield, away from Kyoka’s attempt to hold her back. The weapon in her hand--a 14 foot quiang made of iron, coated in tungsten--zooms from her hand to the creature’s flank.
The spear impales on hardened skin for a few centimeters before it snaps neatly into two. At the same time, its head is buried in explosions from Katsuki’s hands, the noise of it barely masking the pterodactyl screams of pain escaping its mouth. Its vision compromised by light and pain, it misses grabbing its target, allowing him to land unsteadily on the pavement.
“Momo, get the fuck out of here!” he shouts through a grimace of pain, eyes glinting dangerously as the beast thrashes about and just misses hitting him with a chainsaw. “It’s after you!”
“No, you run! It’s after you! ” Momo shouts. Hearing her voice, the monster turns its blind swings at her head. She dodges and sees cut strands of her hair fly in front of her.
“Jesus, Ponytail, this ain’t the time to be stubborn! Do you wanna get fuckin’ killed?!” At the sound of his voice and the explosives in his hands, the monster also swings at his direction again. Katsuki sends a blast against its arm, which only holds it back for a stuttered moment.
“Katsuki, please don’t argue, just leave!”
“As if! You leave, I’ll fuckin’ kill this thing on my own!”
“Stop arguing, it’s obviously after the two of you!” Kyoka screams in frustration. The monster hears her and jumps in her direction. Katsuki and Momo assault it with bombs and explosives, managing to distract it to come after them instead.
“I might be wrong, but it might be after all of us!” Kirishima yells. His skin softens, showing bruised and bleeding skin. The way he staggers, punch-drunk and in obvious pain, makes Momo alarmed. When a mallet swings in his direction, he still manages to harden his arm and shoulder and parries against it quite effectively. “So I dunno, mmmaybe we should get the hell out of here while we still can?!”
Katsuki glares at him, but much to his frustration, Kirishima has a point. His hands glow, and Momo watches in dismay as he ignores everything they say anyway, positions himself to attack the monster head on. “Jirou, are there more of these fuckers around!?”
The monster shrieks against a blast aimed at its chest. Momo throws half of her spear against an arm aimed at his head, giving the explosive blonde enough time to roll out of its way. She glares at Katsuki, who glares right back at her for standing her ground.
Kyoka whimpers. “Y… yeah--”
“How many?”
Momo notices the police officers from before, fighting their own monster. The younger one with the tail is barely able to hold on fighting it using martial arts, while the older one shoots with a rifle that only slows the monster down very minimally. At the very least, they distract it enough for the evacuating civilians around them to make a run for it.
Still, if there’s another one of these strong beasts hiding in the shadows, people just might die around them--
Pale and shaking, Kyoka whispers, “Ten… no, twelve… fifteen--”
As if on cue, the ground shakes beneath them once more, one strong enough to almost throw the four of them off their feet. When it’s done, another gaping maw forms from the concrete, giving way for more of those dark-skinned creatures to crawl out. Their dull eyes look around, see the entrance of the hospital, and walk there, barely cognizant of the cacophony and chaos around them.
“Oh my god...” The hospital. They’re going to destroy the hospital. All the workers, the staff, the sick, the infirm...
“Mina--” Kirishima chokes, and before any of them can stop him, he’s dashing towards the direction of the entrance. The chainsaw monster preoccupied with their group sees him and the glint of his blood on the pavement and moves to attack him.
“Kirishima! Fuck--” Katsuki yells, hands exploding too far away from the monster to stop him. A grenade is forming on Momo’s hand too, and even as it hangs mid-air she knows that it’ll be too late, the monster’s going to get Kirishima before either of them are able to stop it--
A spark of electricity sparks through the monster once. It freezes and shrieks and seizes when it’s covered in bright yellow bolts moments later. When the shock stops, it falls to its knees, gasping and lost, dead eyes going in all directions.
The four of them turn to the source of the electricity. A certain blonde man has his hands poised like a gun, and he seems to be struggling to keep his dulling eyes bright as he gives them a victorious grin. “Whey!!! I mean, yo! You guys need help?”
“Kaminari!” Kyoka cries in shock. “What the hell are you doing here?!”
Kaminari Denki shakes himself to his senses and ducks next to Kyoka as the monster shrieks itself back to life. “Oh you know, patrolling with my boss and then kinda getting lost when all the monsters came out and now I kinda need to find her before things get a little more fucked up, and...”
“What?! I’m your fucking boss, pikashit!” Katsuki yells, sending another blast towards the monster before it makes a full recovery.
“You ain’t my only boss! I’m a part-timer, remember?!” Kaminari yells back, before yelling “Watch out!” and forcing Kyoka down as the force of the blast comes down on them. Momo feels the force and takes the opportunity to hold Kirishima down before he tries to run over the unsafe battle grounds again.
“K-Kaminari-san, do you mean to say that you’re working for a pro-hero?” Momo struggles out, as she forms another shield for her and Kirishima. It’s getting harder and harder to focus, as more and more fights between monsters and hapless civilians go around them. If the pros are on the way here, they might have a fighting chance.
“Yeah, Dr. Momo!” the blonde says brightly in spite of the situation. “You might have heard of us? The underground hero Emily and her crew, the Polterguys?”
“That wasn’t in your fuckin’ resume!” Katsuki growls, rolling out of the way of another attempt at a grab. Momo assaults the monster with more Molotovs, but it seems to be recovering from the blasts faster and faster as the attacks keep coming. “And fuck if I see any shitty pro-hero fightin’ here! Where the hell are they? People are gonna fuckin’ die if--”
Momo screams as a limb almost hits Katsuki again. The monster’s fist crushes the concrete next to him like it was made of peanut brittle. The blonde coughs as he rolls out of a dust cloud and shields himself behind a tower of debris.
“That’s right--Kaminari, where are they?! Shouldn’t they be here by now?!” Jirou asks, her ear-jacks stabbing the concrete underneath them.
“Reiko-chan--I mean, Emily picked up the distress signal after the first explosion was reported! I’m guessing the pros and police in the Hosu, Naruhata, and Kiyashi areas got ‘em too, but there’s Nomu’s sprouting up everywhere else, and we barely have enough manpower rounding up civilians, much less fighting back--”
“Nomus?! These are fuckin’ Nomus?!” Katsuki grits out, as the monster blindly stumbles through the dust clouds in search of his targets.
Momo struggles to remember what little information the police have on Nomus--mutated reanimated creatures created by the League of Villains, with multiple quirks and a resistance against damage that surpasses the sturdiest pro-heroes. The few, but increasing sightings on them so far led experts to conclude that they are not intelligent enough to do anything but wreak havoc, but that their actions seem to be goal-directed at the very least.
“Yeah,” Kaminari says, sending another surge of energy towards the chainsaw Nomu, which stuns it for a good second. “This guy with us looks weaker than the other ones we’ve seen so far, so we just gotta keep fighting this one, just a little more...”
“Right,” Kyoka says weakly, “But… you said there’s lots of them coming here…”
Coming for them, Momo thinks, as she wills a rifle to form from the flesh of her back. She keeps one hand on Kirishima’s collar, even though she knows that he’s too stunned to move then.
Kaminari nods. “About a hundred, we think.”
Momo’s jaw drops. Next to her, Kirishima pales and looks despairingly at the entrance, where monsters of various mutations are in the process of smashing through an improvised barricade made of debris and vines. Shiozaki-san must have been responsible for that.
“Kirishima,” she mumbles to the redhead next to her, bleeding and terrified, “Look at me, okay? Ashido-san’s strong, she can stand against the monsters--and she isn’t alone, Shiozaki-san’s doing a good job of holding the fort, and I know Todoroki-san is there too, with his fire and ice… Kendo-san and Tetsutetsu-san are there to help, and you know how strong they are, right?”
He looks at her as if forcing himself to believe in the inane things that she’s saying. “Y… yeah, they can… they can protect everyone there…”
“Yes, they can. And we can protect everyone else here.”
Kirishima stammers as she pulls out the M16 from her back and aims it at the monster, who is staggering towards where Kyoka and Kaminari are huddled. A little more , Kaminari-san says they only need to push a little more. She shuts one eye and peers behind the scope, taking a deep breath.
“Duck!” she screams.
The monster shrieks, and so does everyone else in the vicinity. Momo doesn’t flinch, even as the monster sees her and stumbles in her direction, even as the recoil threatens to throw her off her feet. She doesn’t stop shooting, doesn’t keep her eyes off the Nomu, as terrifying as it is to stare at its flesh ripping apart and regenerating limitlessly.
A little more, she thinks. We have to kill this thing, just a little more--
The Nomu is closing in on her, the rifle getting lighter as the bullets run out--
The empty click of her next shot rings far too loudly within the noise. The monster is weakened, but is still standing strong at an arm’s length away from her. She sees a desperate Katsuki leap from his hiding spot, throwing explosives at the undistracted Nomu’s back but too far away from where they are. As the monster descends, all she can do is close her eyes as an arm moves to swipe at her neck.
“DETROIT SMASH!”
A strong gust of wind hits her instead of a solid arm, throwing her off her feet and making her stumble into Kirishima’s arms. She hears him gasp as rapid, machine gun sounds flood the air in front of them.
When she manages to open her eyes, she doesn’t understand what she’s seeing at first. The monster is surrounded by a blur in red, white, blue, and gold, swirling around it and through it, its body jerking in many consecutive directions with each strike. In a matter of seconds, the beast falls, its body battered and destroyed, steaming from the heat of all the punches delivered. The blur of striking colors stops and takes on the form of a blonde man with striking blue eyes, built and strong and barely scratched after its assault.
“That’s...” Momo whispers in awe, as the man looks ahead at all the chaos.
“I am HERE!” The underground hero Lemillion shouts, strong arms out to the side, a big smile as blinding as the sun. The sound of his declaration seems to bring everyone to a standstill around them, before a great noise erupts all around.
Out of nowhere, various costumed pro heroes in varying degrees of disarray make it to the entrance of the hospital to fight against the Nomu. The colours of spandex, as nauseating as they are, are a vision that fills everyone with hope. Momo could almost collapse with relief.
Lemillion turns to them and gives them a thumbs up. “You guys did great holding the fort! But the fight’s not over yet! You guys should prioritize evacuating now that the pros are here!”
They make noises of affirmation as Lemillion leaps off to fight another nearby Nomu. “We should get going,” Kyoka says urgently, earjacks pointing to an alley close to them. “I can use my ears to avoid the Nomus.”
“You should go ahead,” Kaminari says, only glancing at them briefly as he makes his way to the fray. “I gotta find Reiko-chan, and… save Ojiro--”
“What the fuck, Kaminari, don’t be stupid!” Kyoka screams. “You might die out there, you know! You can’t jump in there, just because your boyfriend is--”
“He’s right there, Jirou!” he says in desperation, looking to where the policeman with the tail is struggling with a Nomu while two pros try to help him out. No-one has the heart to tell him off with the look in his eyes. “I… I’m a sidekick too, you know, even if it’s just part-time! Someone has to help!”
He’s off before anyone can stop him. Katsuki curses him as he does, but as the earth shakes around them with all the fights going on, they know the place is getting more and more unsafe and they can’t just stand there and wait for the ground to collapse around them.
But Momo feels a little too sick to move. Maybe it’s from the colors flying all around, or all the energy she spent creating those bombs and shields. Or the fact that she nearly just died at the hands of the Nomu while pretending to be a hero. When she wobbles with her movement, Kirishima holds her steady. She sees Katsuki zooming towards her, crimson eyes close to hers in the next moment, shining with worry.
“Momo, you did good,” he says gruffly and tenderly, putting strong, protective arms around her. “Just a little more, okay? Gotta get to a safe place.”
She nods, not trusting her mouth to make anything other than sounds of weakness. She feels herself lifted off her feet by the two men next to her and begin to move, sees all the blinding colors swirling around her, the screams, the flashes of light, the heat--
“Look! Up in the sky!” Someone screams from somewhere far away, and Momo feels Katsuki and Kirishima halt next to her.
At first, it feels like they’re watching a star explode. There’s fire, green and blue at the center and a blinding orange at the edges, stretching twenty meters in all four directions across the sky above them, high above the Hosu skyline. Squinting, Momo is barely able to make out two figures at the center where the heat is most intense--a familiar figure in blue and orange, flames sprouting from his face, fighting a sneering creature black from head to toe.
“Endeavor! The number one is here!” People start cheering all around them. “We’re saved!”
“Damn, that flame is something else,” Kirishima whispers in wonder. Kyoka glances at them and gestures for them to keep moving against the maddening crowd around them.
Momo can’t keep her eyes away from the star in the sky, though. She sees the blue and green flicker around Endeavor, sees him take one hit after another. Something glints in the mass of black, something white and sharp and fast that darts towards Endeavor’s head.
“NO!”
It happens very quickly: one moment the sky is filled with fire, and next it isn’t. The silence is deafening as the man drops like a dying comet from the sky, crashing against the side of a sixty-storey office building.
“No…!!!”
Everyone--heroes, civilians--hold a collective breath when the fire stutters from the crash site, and stops. The monster with various blades sticking out of its skin, sticks to the side of the building, climbing its side like a mountain.
“Endeavor-san!!!” A flurry of wings breaks the unbearable silence. A blur of red, who must be the number 2 hero Hawks, followed closely by the unmistakable red, white and blue of Lemillion leave the ground and go straight for the monster. Soon the fight reaches the ground, away from the steaming mass of melted steel and glass of where Endeavor lay without any signs of movement.
“Momo,” Katsuki whispers beside her, eyes dark and tense. “Did you see what I see?”
She bites her lip to the point of bleeding. “Endeavor is…”
Did she see it right? The blood-stained blade from the monster’s flesh? The spurt of blood within the flame? The way Endeavor’s hand flies to the side of his neck, the instant snuffing of the flame around him?
The lifeless way he crashes against the glass?
“Guys, we should move,” Kyoka begs as chaos erupts around them. “I can’t hear anything anymore, there’s too much going on...”
Kirishima nudges Momo, his face paler than ever. “C’mon, Jirou says we gotta go--”
Ignoring the two of them, Katsuki presses on. “I’m not sure, but it looks like a clean shot to his carotid. The left one.” His hand on her tightens, strong and burning, tense in a way that makes her believe he’s making choices in his head. He doesn’t take his eyes off hers.
Momo nods. “If… if you’re right… he won’t have a lot of time,” she tells him, voice shaking.
“Bakugou!” Kyoka’s voice comes out as a half-scream, half-sob. Around them, people are shoving each other, screaming helplessly within the mess. “Please, if we don’t leave now--”
Katsuki shouts over Kyoka’s pleas, fright in his eyes shifting into a piercing determination. “He doesn’t have a lot of time. No-one here can help him. But if the two of us went to him, we can--”
“What are you talking about?!” Kirishima protests loudly in her other ear. “There are pros, Bakugou, they can help Endeavor out, we shouldn’t meddle and make things worse!”
“The pros can’t do shit, Kirishima! Do you see any of them try to go up there while fuckin’ Hawks and Lemillion are keeping that strong-as-fuck Nomu away from everyone else?!” He growls through gritted teeth. True enough, the pros are either too preoccupied fighting the Nomus littering the streets, or evacuating the panicking hordes, or panicking themselves. “I’m not going to sit around, waiting until they figure shit out, not when the number one pro hero is up there fucking dying !”
Kirishima and Kyoka freeze at the last word that hangs in the air. Dying-- people all around them are at the risk of dying, and the one closest to that is the number one hero. The new symbol of hope, the strongest man in the country. Hasn’t this happened before years and years ago? The reality of it sets in and sinks in their guts like lead, making the world spin around them.
Within that, Momo hears all of the unsaid words in Katsuki’s rant: Not again. Never again. Not while I’m here.
It’s so that her next decision comes to her easily, clearly. There is no doubt in her mind when she nods at Katsuki and answers, “I’m with you.”
They turn to her in silence--Kirishima and Kyoka stunned, speechless. Katsuki, with burning determination. He nods and takes her hand, extracts her from Kirishima’s grip and without another word runs in the opposite direction of where Kyoka is leading them to safety.
“Bakugou--”
“Ears, get going! Shitty hair, follow her and make sure neither of you fuckin’ die!!”
They don’t call for them a second time. Kyoka curses; Kirishima shouts “Don’t die on us either, Baku-bro! Dr. Momo!” before taking the smaller girl by the arm and leading her to safety.
The nausea Momo feels in her gut swirls, but she pushes it down to the edges and forces it from her consciousness. Her grip on Katsuki’s hand is strong and sure, her steps falling hard to the ground. When they reach the edge of the building, with its occupants streaming out and all around them in panic, they look into each other’s eyes.
The building is on the edge of collapse. Getting up where Endeavor has crashed is unsafe and foolhardy. They might actually die doing this and accomplish exactly nothing, but...
“I suppose we’d have to fly,” she tells him, shrugging off her doctor’s coat.
She sees the slight tremor in his hands, and the widening of his eyes. He takes a deep breath and releases it. Adrenaline rushes quick in his pulse in a thrum that she feels from where she stands.
“Damn right. You know how to hold on tight, right, Princess?”
There is no time for hesitation.
She nods after a deep inhale of her own. He bends over so she can cling to his back, arms securely wrapped around his shoulders and legs around his waist. He straightens up as much as he can and looks up at the gaping hole at the side of the building.
She inhales the sweet scent of nitroglycerin in one breath. Exhales. And then they’re off the ground.
Their rise to the sky and the side of the building is unsteady, frighteningly so. The blasts from Katsuki’s hands propels them at odd angles. He grunts with the difficulty of balancing himself and her added weight, dangerously careening towards the glass and twisted steel beams sticking out of the edges. She feels the wind rushing past her ears and cutting through the skin peeking out of her tattered clothing, her ponytail going in all directions.
The burn from his hands become more unstable as they fly higher and higher. Yet she feels Katsuki’s even breathing as she clings onto him for dear life. It seems impossible they’ll make it, but having him so close to her, she knows that they will.
They somehow reach the crash site. With a grunt of effort, Katsuki lands at the edge of it, keeping him and Momo steady as a beam gives a little with their weight. He grips her arms with searing hot hands protectively as they peer over the edge of the abyss.
It’s dark and eerie, the crevice spanning multiple floors. The cold air blasting through makes her teeth chatter, makes the absence of Endeavor’s flame apparent.
Are they too late? “Katsuki, do you see him?”
He squints at the darkness. “We gotta get closer,” he says, leaping carefully at the edges of the jagged rings of broken floors. Their landings are hardly stable, but miraculously they manage to keep upright without letting the structure collapse further. Katsuki is nimble on his feet as they descend through the pit, passing by wreckage of concrete and steel and plastic. There are immobile bodies at some floors, and the couple that they can approach safely are pulseless. The touch of cold skin under her fingers makes the bile in Momo’s guts rise and the tears spill over in her cheeks.
“Momo.” Katsuki doesn’t allow himself to linger over the dead. He takes her and leaps down. His eyes glint in the dark, but he keeps them forward. Momo forces herself to do the same.
It’s probably ten floors down when Katsuki pauses at the edge. “There,” he murmurs, pointing to an orange flicker in the darkness.
Gingerly stepping over the debris, the two of them find a clearing, where a large, unmoving body clad in torn spandex lies on his back. The flames come from bits of charred wood and paper and not from the flames of his face, as they had expected. Momo makes a flashlight out of the flesh of her arm and shines a light over him.
“Oh god…”
Katsuki immediately kneels next to him and does a quick assessment. Endeavor is pale and gasping, can barely make a sound as they check his pulses. The pro’s hand is weakly pressing on the wound of his neck when Katsuki moves it and sees the blood ooze. “Shit, the cut’s deep. We can’t wait. We gotta stitch him up quick.”
Momo nods and crouches down next to him, immediately forming things from her flesh as she does so. “I can do the carotid repair, just give me a minute to create--”
“No. I’ll do it.”
She stares at him, mouth agape. “Katsuki, you haven’t done this in a while. And your hands… you just blasted your way up here--”
He scowls and snatches a pair of sterile gloves forming on her lap. “It’ll take too long for you to create and do the repair. Besides, you’re shaking more than I am.”
She looks down at her hands and sees that he’s right. They’re thinner than they were this morning, and so is the rest of her. All the stress of creating has her body protesting.
There’s no time to waste. Grimly, she nods at Katsuki. “Okay. I’ll assist you.”
“Good.” He takes a deep breath and asks for a light.
The air around them shifts as Katsuki dons the protective gear and rushes to prepare the site. Momo has never seen him with laser-like focus, eyes fierce and silent as his hands set to work swiftly over the wound. There are no excessive movements nor excessive words as needle and thread go through tissue, sealing the wound shut. Momo concentrates as she never had before, forming tools as much as holding them apart, hanging onto Katsuki’s every word as he performs the emergency surgery.
His hands immaculately steady, Katsuki eventually performs the last stitch and exhales. Cleaning the wound and covering it up, he says, “We need to get fluids in him. Can you make some with your quirk?”
She shakes her head. “I can’t make that out of lipids.”
And even if she can in theory, she doubts that she can make anything out of her body at that rate without her sacrificing her marrow. The strips of clothing hanging on her body are now loose, the fat over her limbs and trunk almost completely depleted. Her head spins from the rapid loss of body mass.
“Shit,” she hears Katsuki curse next to her, and in the next moment his arms are around her, keeping her steady. She struggles to look up at his face through the spots in her vision. “It’s fine, Momo, you did great. Hold on, all right? We’ll get you outta this fuckin’ place.”
“Mm,” she says, blinking herself back into consciousness, as hard as it is as the seconds pass by. “Endeavor-san first… Katsuki, you have to save him…”
“Momo, don’t fuckin’ pass out on me now--stay with me, stay here, right here--”
I am, I swear, she wants to say, but her mouth can’t move. Damn, they might have been too reckless--what’s the use of attempting to rescue Endeavor when they can’t even make it out of there by themselves? She tries to keep her head up, tries to be strong, but her vision dims and she isn’t sure that the sounds she’s hearing at the edges of her consciousness is real--
“RELEASE! Found them! Bakugou! Dr. Yaomomo!”
“Momo! Hold on!”
Two voices, male and female, come from her right. If she concentrated, she could have sworn that they were voices that she knew. She tries to turn her head to the sounds of the voices, but Katsuki moves above her, keeping her still.
“Half-and-half? Roundface? Headband fucker?!”
“Shut up,” Yosetsu’s sharp voice, so unmistakably his, comes from Momo’s left. “Hey, Momo, you okay? Bakugou, what the fuck, why did you let her end up like this--”
“You shut up,” Katsuki snaps. “This guy’s neck was cut right open, and we did what we had to do to, all right? Momo saved this bastard’s life with her quirk!”
Momo wants to shove their heads together for arguing at such a dire time, but thankfully someone else steps in to do that for her. “The two of you shut up and let me do my job!” Uraraka-san snaps in between them. “Come on, Yaomomo’s about to crash, we gotta get this glucose solution in her, stat!”
A needle pierces through her skin, but she hardly flinches at the sensation. When the cool fluid pushes through her veins, the spots in her vision dissipate, and she feels her mind step out of the haze. She blinks and focuses her vision on Katsuki, Yosetsu, and Uraraka, who are staring at her warily. It is only then that she sees that Uraraka is in full nursing regalia, eyes and cheeks glowing in determination, and Yosetsu is in his scrub suit, with bottles of IV fluids and other medical supplies fused to his bare skin.
“Momo. Say something,” Katsuki murmurs gently in her ear.
She nods weakly at them. “I’m okay… I’m awake now,” she stammers. Her voice is wobblier than she’d like, but at least she’s able to speak at all. “W-we did a carotid artery repair on his left… Endeavor-san, we have to--”
“We’re on it,” Uraraka says, standing up with one of the bottles from Yosetsu’s body and rushing to Endeavor’s side. “Shouto, here.”
She wouldn’t have known that her associate was there if Uraraka didn’t call him by his name. Todoroki is deathly silent--he has just placed a line through Endeavor’s arm with a bag of blood dripping through it and is now attempting to get vital signs. Next to him, a serious-faced Uraraka places another line at the other arm, murmuring numbers to the dual-toned doctor.
“He’s in shock,” Todoroki says, voice oddly blank. “Awase, we need those...”
“Got it,” Yosetsu says, unfusing another bag of medicine from his body. When Momo moves to help, he unfuses a juice pouch from himself and shoves this in her hands and stops her with a stern glare. Shifting his gaze to Katsuki, he says, “Make sure she doesn’t collapse, shit-face.”
“As if I would, Welder-fucker,” Katsuki grumbles with a tch. Yosetsu glares at him again, but sets to work with Todoroki and Uraraka in the next moment, stabilizing the fallen pro. Momo watches in worry as Todoroki adjusts all the fluids, his face frighteningly free of any emotions. As Katsuki watches with her, body tense and eyes unmoving, he doesn’t let her go.
He’s frightened, she realizes. Even though Todoroki Shouto is the most frightened of them all to lose this man, everyone is fighting off the cold chill of fear of losing the number one hero on their watch.
“We did all we could,” she murmurs to Katsuki, as they keep their eyes on the sutures he placed over Endeavor’s neck.
“... yeah,” Katsuki agrees. “We did.”
It feels like an eternity of waiting when Uraraka tells them that it’s probably safe to move Endeavor now. After regulating the temperature with his quirk, Todoroki nods at Uraraka, who nods back and touches Endeavor with all her fingers.
“Can you float all of us with your quirk without killing us with the drop, Roundface?”
She glares at him, but nods. “Not like I have a choice, Explodeyface.”
Not like any of them have a choice, really. Uraraka touches all of them with her hands--first Todoroki, then Yosetsu, then Katsuki who chooses to carry Momo in his arms, and then herself. She holds on to Endeavor’s sleeve with one hand and hooks the other around Todoroki, in a small gesture to keep him grounded.
“Okay, let’s go.”
Without further ado, the group floats through the crevice, their ascent more stable than it was when Katsuki used his quirk. They’re able to make it out of the building when Uraraka holds her breath, puts all ten fingers together, and whispers “release” like a prayer.
The loss of gravity jolts all of them like a gunshot, and there’s a moment where they feel themselves free falling for a few heart-stopping seconds. But Uraraka grits her teeth and controls the pressure on her fingertips, keeping her eyes level and her face free from any trace of green. Miraculously their descent slows down halfway, slow enough that it feels like they’re riding an elevator in the open air.
The ground zooms in closer to them. The people see them and point in both awe and horror at the sight of the number one hero unconscious and flameless.
Momo, as weakened as she is, grips onto Katsuki a little tighter.
“He’ll make it,” Katsuki tells her, loud enough that Todoroki hears and looks at him with those unreadable eyes. “Bastard is tough as shit.”
She hopes he’s right.
When they land, Uraraka keeps Endeavor afloat until a stretcher is pushed their way by Shinsou and, to Momo’s surprise, Kirishima. Both of them are equally bruised and battered, but they’re able to work steadily as if they aren’t.
“What the fuck are you still doin’ here, Shitty Hair?!” Katsuki growls when gravity is completely back in their systems. “I thought I told you to get your ass the fuck out of here!”
Kirishima doesn’t look up from his work. “Yeah, but we couldn’t leave the hero work to you guys! It wasn’t manly to just up and leave! I wouldn’t have been able to live with myself! Jirou too! She went back looking for the cops to help the evacuation efforts--”
“But the Nomus--”
“Mostly managed by the pros, and thankfully none of concern anymore,” Shinsou interrupts curtly as he draws blood from Endeavor. “Now we can focus on the Code Orange. Todoroki, Uraraka, we got this, Iida’s preparing the ICU, so--”
“Thank you,” Todoroki answers. The sickly grey pallor sticks on his skin as he watches Endeavor wheeled in the hospital. “We’ll help in the code.”
Shinsou pauses. “You sure? I heard you and Uraraka almost died fighting a Nomu on your own, before that guy--”
“We can do it, Shinsou-kun,” Uraraka interrupts, face still filled with determination. “We need to help everyone who’s hurt.”
“Very good. We need all the help we can get.”
They all turn in unison to the dignified voice coming from behind them. Dr. Hakamata, despite having his doctor’s coat and trademark denim suit frayed at the edges, ambles behind them with a harried-looking Amajiki-senpai walking close behind. It appears they’ve been in a scuffle themselves, but both look ready to get to work.
“We already have a number of cases lined up in Neurosurgery--head traumas and the like. I’ll need all available neurosurgeons up in the suite now. All four residents should go up as soon as you’re able.”
“Four of--” Yosetsu stammers, looking at Momo incredulously. “B-but Jeanist, Momo--I mean, Yaoyorozu can’t, she’s just recovering from overusing her quirk, and--”
“I’ll do it.”
At the sound of her voice without the unsteadiness in it moments ago, all eyes turn to her in various degrees of disbelief.
“Yaoyorozu… you sure? You’re really… thin,” Shinsou says bluntly.
She shakes her head. “I’m still standing. My hands aren’t shaking anymore. As long as I don’t use my quirk any further, I can help out.”
Amajiki is miraculously able to look at her and Dr. Hakamata in the face as he says, “Sir, we should give her some time to recover, at least. She wouldn’t last in the OR by herself like this.”
“Fucking elf-shit! What bullshit is this!” Katsuki growls, stunning everyone into silence again with how wide with anger his eyes are. “Stop fuckin’ doubting what Momo can or can’t do! She says she can do it, and this Denim Bastard thinks she can too, so why the fuck are you shitheads so adamant to keep the most brilliant doctor outta all of you from helping?! As if you shitheads have the luxury of standing here while the fuckin’ code orange is still going on--”
“Katsuki, it’s all right,” Momo says, but he isn’t done.
“Besides! She won’t be alone!” Staring at Dr. Hakamata right in the face, he points a thumb to himself, nostrils flaring. “I’m going too. I’m first assist for all the surgeries you’ll throw her way.”
Everyone gasps, except for Dr. Hakamata, whose eyes remain unfazed as Katsuki assaults him with that glare. “Really? I thought you didn’t want anything to do with hospitals anymore, Bakugou-kun,” he replies coolly.
Katsuki grits his teeth. “Really? You’re gonna be a smug bastard about this now?!”
Despite the suffocating tension around them, Dr. Hakamata laughs, and pats him on the shoulder. “Not at all. Glad to have you back on board, Dr. Bakugou.” He looks at the stunned staff in front of him and taps his fingers against the fabric covering his chin. “I suppose it goes without saying that because he is not affiliated with our institution, I answer to all his medical decisions while working with us.”
The look on his face leaves no room for argument.
Soon, all of them rush back to the hospital, its hallways congested with stretchers and patients, and make their way up the suites. Honenuki is already operating on his own patient when they arrive there, assisted by Mina. Todoroki and Uraraka get the next patient on deck, while Amajiki and the neurology chief resident Hado-san take the next one. Momo takes the short waiting time on the OR floor, eating a rice ball and finishing Yosetsu’s juice pack, while Katsuki drops next to her with even more food and drinks for her to consume.
“I might actually choke if you think I’ll finish all those in ten minutes,” she says in the lightest tone she can muster at that point. Her limbs are still thin, but thankfully without tremors as she takes in the next bite.
Katsuki smirks. “Eat this all or I’ll kill ya, Princess.”
“Really… you and your threats to keep me alive,” she says with a laugh. Her tone falls in the next moment though, when the gravity of the situation catches up on them.
People are dying around them, in massive numbers. If she doesn’t operate, they just might die. If she makes a mistake, they might die faster.
She wasn’t good enough to operate on her own before all this happened.
She… hasn’t operated on anyone with such high stakes before.
“Hey,” Katsuki’s voice snaps her back to reality. She meets his ruby eyes, uncharacteristically soft and warm and tender within the mess of her mind. “Don’t give me that weak look. You can fuckin’ do this, all right?”
She tries her hand at a weak smile. “I wonder if I’m strong enough for this, Katsuki.”
He makes a small frustrated sound in his throat. “The woman who was ready to kill a fuckin’ Nomu with a machine gun she made from the fat of her back things she ain’t strong enough for this?” he says with a hint of incredulousness that makes her laugh. “Oi, I’m serious. If you think you ain’t good enough to do this, then nobody else is. I didn’t just swallow my pride in front of Best Fuckin’ Jeanist if I thought you’re bad at this.”
A harried nurse calls for Dr. Yaoyorozu and Dr. Bakugou, telling them that the next patient is being wheeled in as they speak. Katsuki helps her to her feet with one strong hand before he holds on to her with both, eyes looking straight into hers in that intense way that awakens her to her senses.
“Listen. Momo. You got this.”
She smiles, genuinely this time, and squeezes his arms in affirmation. She nods.
Without further ado, they rush into the operating room, ready to save lives.

The only sound in Midoriya's office was the patronizing sound of the clock. Midoriya had led the man Shouto Todoroki into his office sat him down and basically stared at him while the other male just continued to balance a pencil in between his fingers.
If Midoriya had the chance to ask Yaoyorozu anything right now he'd probably ask her how he'd ended up with a dream manifestation seated just across the desk from him in blue jeans and a white button up with a red tie on. The same one he'd seen only a day before right outside the market. This is fine.
Midoriya shut his eyes focusing completely on calming his eccentric heartbeat, almost worried over how hard it was beating. At some point he had to figure all of this out but work came first. He could still get this day normal again.. Except no he couldn't at this point it would be impossible.
"Midoriya? Right?" Midoriya flinched back in his office chair at the soft voice of the heterochromic male. The man seated across from him was now staring, pencil idle between his fingers and both his legs slung over the side of the chair he was seated in not much different from how he'd been when Midoriya had asked him inside.
"Y-y-yes!"
Todoroki blinked turning his attention away from Midoriya and towards the filing cabinets lining the rooms walls.
"My boss would want me to inform you that I need to know as much as possible about this establishment." Todoroki rolled his eyes as if this information meant nothing to him personally. "Want to tell me a bit about this work space?" The smirk on the man's face was enchanting, seductive as if he was really here just for Midoriya which at this point would be less than a surprise.
"W-well.. Um.. Wh-what do you need t-to know?"
Todoroki's eyes flashed gently still locking his gaze with the curly haired male across from him. "What ever you can tell.."
Midoriya couldn't stop himself from gulping. His entire body sweating profusely and his pulse tightening as he reached up pulling on his white collared tee. "Well.. Uh.. W-we.. W-we're.. This buisness we're currently in.. Is the Airel post the second m-most famous n-newspaper in th-the city.."
Geez he probably already knew all that coming in! Why did Mr. Aizawa stick him with this job? Sure he didn't know about Midoriya's dreams but he did know how easily nervous Midoriya got around new people. It was like the universe was shoving this man at Midoriya in the hopes of the curly haired male took some kind of hint.
"Can I have the tour?" Todoroki remarked sitting up correctly.
"Didn't Mr. Aizawa just give you a tour?" Midoriya asked
Todoroki shrugged. "He didn't quite give me a tour more like lead me upstairs and barked at me to keep up whenever I wanted to stop to look at something."
"O-ok.."
The entire building was about twenty floors with Midoriya smacked right in the middle working eight to four all week on the tenth floor. Because of this the entire building had many floors that weren't even working on the actual paper but instead had workers dedicated towards gathering information on things for the reporters to cover and even a floor for printing the paper once it was finished.
"So Midoriya.. I assume you'll be my guide for the month."
The curly haired male practically lept out of his skin at this direct statement. "W-well I um.. I don't actually k-know.. I mean-"
"You're pretty cute Midoriya." The male interrupted. This time Midoriya just went for full fledged silence as his body flushed with heat, pooling red into his cheeks.
"Do you have a girlfriend? Or boyfriend?"
What the hell?! Was he asking Midoriya out?!?!! Seriously?!!?!?
If they hadn't just arrived at the ninth floor Midoriya might have screamed. "Th-this is o-our.. Printing fl-floor.." The dark haired male remarked wearily. "H-here.. Is where the newspaper.. the final cut anyway.. Is produced.. th-there are also people on this floor who proofread it f-for the last time."
He couldn't really tell if Todoroki was actually paying attention seeing as he was focusing his attention to the walls of articles and other posters lining the walls as they walked. Honestly Midoriya felt a little jealous of the people on this floor they were allowed a lot more freedom thanks to Mr. Aizawa rarely ever coming down here. So unlike the tenth floor where the walls outside the offices were kinda bland and drab this floor was covered with personality from everyone that worked on it.
"I like this floor. This is the floor Aizawa took me to before your floor." Todoroki replied quietly still scanning each and every poster and article. Eventually he paused peering closely at a framed article just beside a poster of a cat with the text reading hang in there, it's almost Friday! "This is the Mayor's key ceremony.. It happened recently.. Right?"
"Yeah.. About a month or so ago.."
Todoroki nodded slowly hands in his pockets. "Even the Daily Basis wasn't able to get a story on this. It was overpopulated with tourists and reporters that day.." The male next to Midoriya blinked at the article before his eyes flicked back to the curly haired male. "I'm impressed." He remarked smoothly.
While Midoriya hadn't been the one to write this story he still flushed hair whipping into his face as he turned away from the heterochromic male.
"Hey! Midoriya!" Midoriya's head shot back up to see Kaminari racing towards him a slightly startled Kirishima being dragged along with him. "What brings you to our floor?!" He questioned enthusiastically.
"And who's this?" Kirishima butted in smirking first at Midoriya than at the male next to him.
"Uh.. Th-this.. Is Todoroki.. He's.. H-he's um.."
"I'm here from Endevor enterprise. To study this work facility and document whether it's clear or should be shut down promptly." Todoroki interjected. His tone was a lot less causal than it had been when he was only with Midoriya.
"Wo-woah what?!"
"Y-you work for E-Endevor?! One of the richest men in the city?!" Midoriya gaped staring at the male in front of him who looked extremely unenthused.
"Wow!" Squealed Kaminari
Todoroki shifted his gaze across each male in front of him shrugging. "He's my old man I accepted his job offer to keep an eye on him." Responded the male as if he was simply discussing the weather.
"Wow that was super manly of you!" Retorted Kirishima.
"Midoriya, we were just about to take a coffee break why don't you and-"
"Call me Todoroki." The male finished for Kaminari.
"Sure! Todoroki why don't you two come get coffee with us in the break room." Kaminari offered rubbing his hands together as though he'd just thought of the best evil plan.
"How're you taking a break its only 9:02?" Midoriya questioned only getting a shush from the yellow haired male in reply.
"So what's Endevor like anyway? Is he as buff as the magazines make him look?!" Kirishima began as they all sat down at the circular table located at the very back of the break room.
"Honestly I rarely see him. He works at the very top of the company he makes his bucks off taking down the little pizza places owned by families who can barely afford to pay the rent much less get rid of mice. Or taking down the huge new theater establishment because while it looks glamorous it has a tick problem." Todoroki said taking a small sip of the coffee Kirishima had handed him.
"Geez that's sad but you at least see him on the weekends don't you?" Kaminari asked
Todoroki blinked setting his sights on a nearby table. It was much smaller than the one they were currently seated at with only two stools pushed under it, each one shaped like a cube. "I see him when he has work for me." Todoroki remarked coldly
"I'm so sorry Todoroki." Midoriya cooed resting a hand on the man's shoulder.
Todoroki relaxed a bit under the warm touch letting a small smile flutter onto his features. "Don't be. It's not as bad as it used to be."
Midoriya removed his hand cupping the plastic drink ware in front of him between his hands. "But it's not ok no one should treat their son like that... Everyone deserves time with their family. Isn't that why you took your father's job offer? Subconsciously at least?"
Todoroki's eyes flickered with an emotion Midoriya hadn't seen and couldn't even put words to what it could be. His eyes fell back to the brown liquid in his cup.
"I have to agree with Midoriya there's no good reason to push aside your kids. Even if it is for your job." Kirishima commented Kaminari nodding along.
"His job mandates he always stay with it. There are new establishments opening everyday. Some that beg for his attention while others fall under the radar not wanting to be touched with his hard hitting hand." Todoroki spoke dryly staring into his own halfway drunk cup. "He tells his worker the tinest misdemeanor and we shut the place down.. No matter how big."
This last comment stunned the table into silence Kirishima and Kaminari both staring at each other as if they'd just seen a ghost.
"M-maybe we should all get back to work.." Kaminari stated almost making his chair hit the floor with how fast he stood up.
"Y-yeah that's not a bad idea.." Retorted Kirishima who also stood up quickly both men fleeing the room as fast as they could heading back to their individual offices.
Midoriya blinked turning to a smirking Todoroki. "Does your father really say that?"
"Yes I wasn't lying to get them to leave if that's what you think." The male explained, eyes warm as they glossed over to Midoriya. "As nice as they seem I think I enjoy just your company for now.."
And with that Midoriya's heart started it's fast plummeting down his ribcage.

The day had gone by fairly quickly, while him and Todoroki hadn't reached every floor they'd at least made it to the 8th, 7th, 6th, 5th, and 2nd floor all before needing to retreat back upstairs by the time the clock struck 2:32. Midoriya immediately collapsed in his desk chair the second they were in his office. He blinked tiredly and tears stung the corners of his eyes as he yawned briefly.
"I like this establishment so far." Todoroki stated. Midoriya sat up to see the man pulling a black bag over his shoulder laying the strap out flat aganist his body. He definitely didn't remember Todoroki having that when he'd come in but at this point Midoriya was too tired to care. "Well I have to return to my desk at the office and type up a review of my first day. It was good to meet you.... Midoriya." The man smiled heading towards the office door.
"W-wait!" The curly haired male hadn't meant to yell but now Todoroki was paused, head turned towards Midoriya. "I-I uh... I-I need to ask you.. something."
The male nodded pulling himself back around towards Midoriya's desk. "Yes." He said plainly
"Uh.. I-I y-yesterday when.. Ar-e you um.. Ok I have these dreams and-"
"Midoriya." His door suddenly flew open Mr. Aizawa walking in without bothering to knock. "If you're down young Todoroki I'd like to speak with Midoriya alone."
"Sure. See you tomorrow Midoriya." Todoroki waved leaving promptly, shutting the door behind him.
"Mr. Aizawa?"
"You haven't done the editing for Aylsia.." The man remarked coldly
Ida had told him many times before that he had a crying problem but all his emotions were flooding out now and he couldn't help but let the tears fly out of his body like a tidal wave. "I-I'm sorry! I w-was taking T-Todoroki around a-and I l-lost track of time a--and!-"
"Stop yelling." Mr. Aizawa said plainly. "Forward me the latest copy I'll take care of it. Go home Midoriya."
"Wh-what?!"
"Your job for the next month is to take care of Todoroki first he is your main priority. Make him happy and keep this company above water." Mr. Aizawa finished opening the closed door. "I really don't care how you do it." And with that the man was gone
His tears stopped and his heart raced uncomfortably in his chest as he sat down in his office chair pulling up the latest draft of the upcoming paper. He didn't pull his hand away from his pulsing heart as he worked quickly forwarding the draft, laying back in his chair.
"Take care of Todoroki.." Those words echoed in his brain. "He is your main priority." "Keep him happy... I don't care how you do it.."
This was going to be a long month.

Train traffic was more brutal than usual that day, with two of the trains Midoriya had been on shutting down, one due to too much train traffic and the other holding a sick passenger. It was only about eight stops from his home to work and vise versa... On a good day. Even worse he still had to walk the last two stops. Tired, hungry, and incredibly annoyed Midoriya unlocked his front door at around 5:02 walking past a chatting Ida and Uraraka to go lay on the couch.
The two adults at the table ended their conversation walking over to their friend, Uraraka being the first to wipe the sweat from the curly haired male's brow. "What happened to you?" She asked concern filling her voice.
Midoriya blinked up at the brunette with tried green eyes half lidded and worn out. "Long day.."
"Did you hear about the train traffic today it was brutal!" Announced Ida making Midoriya flinch briefly.
"Yes.. I did.."
So how was your day?" Uraraka began pulling herself up to sit on the couch next to Midoriya resting his legs on her thighs.
The green eyed male shut his eyes for a second. "I saw him again today.. At my job."
"Why was he at your job."
"It's a long story..." Midoriya began almost turning over but not wanting to kick Uraraka in the process. "But he's gonna be there.... For a month." He whispered on the last words.
Surprisingly Ida wasn't the first one to say anything after Midoriya's previous comment. "I don't like this.. He could be dangerous." This time Uraraka's voice sounded slightly more irritated than concerned and she crossed her arms against her stomach.
"I think it's an opportunity! One for Midoriya to further understand his dreams." Ida retorted as calmly as he could get.
He was about to speak on it further when he felt the smooth buzz of his phone. He pulled the device from his pocket blinking twice at Yaoyorozu's number.
"Yeah Yaoyorozu?" He answered running down the hall to his room.
He could take the call in the living room but not without Ida butting in his two sense every time he felt it was necessary so more often he'd try to take his calls away from his nosy roommate.
"Yes.. Izuku I think I found something... Something about your dream. Come over when you can."
Her voice sounded almost faint like she was speaking with the phone a couple feet away from her.
"I'm coming."
