Im so sorry @jils-things but you made me want to go on a tangent about art supplies in a bit cuz I'm a nerd andhekqkwkdjwoqo i lov u pls dont go away- 😭
Anyway yes I usually make a very light sketch with my pencil so that I could erase it easily for me to retrace it but I am here to make a very important public announcement and I feel that it is my duty to inform the public on something that could be beneficial to the society.
Behold: Kneading Eraser
Tumblr media
This fucker have multiple names; Putty eraser, gummy eraser, kneaded eraser, clay. It's going through a phase, please don't judge it, let it change name every 10 seconds.
What I need is that I want everyone to put everything down and listen to what I say: You run to the art store, Michael's, Art Friend, soup store, whatever store you get your art supply at. You ask the store clerk you want a putty eraser and if they dont give you a putty eraser, tell them they're a loser in malay (it's mak kau hijau. The more your learn folks) and then go to the next store and find a putty eraser until you get them. Its not expensive, it cost me less than 2 bucks for 1 pack of putty eraser.
Why you may ask? Well, I can assure you as someone who draws, putty eraser is much much MUCH better than a normal generic eraser.
First of all, there's no dust. When you erase a line with this boy, there wont be any rubber shit nugget clumping on the table and making a mess on your bed (i know you hate your spine too and likes to draw on bed i live in ur walls u guys better sleep with 1 eye open). I'm so serious like I have 0 eraser shavings in my house since I use a putty eraser. Please stop sleeping covered in eraser shavings.
It's also malleable. You can literally shape it to whatever shape that you want so you could erase a a tiny spot that you couldn't reach without disturbing other lines. And it works sooooo well as a stress ball or a toy. People actually knead it into animal shape. Can you shape a normal rectangle eraser into a giraffe? CAN YOU? DO YOU SEE MY POINT?
Tumblr media
Do you suffer from loneliness? Do you need a conversation opener? Are you tired of kneading an eraser to shape it into a friend? Believe it or not, putty eraser is a great conversation starter when you dont want to start a conversation! As a personal anecdote: whenever I sketch in school, if anyone I know sees me sketching, they will always ask me what the fuck is the clay thing I use to erase my lines and then I have to explain to them what is a kneadable eraser and then whenever I demo'd the eraser, an amusing OOOOOOO will come out and they will play with my eraser for like 5 mins. Am I mad that my eraser is taken away? No because the eraser can also be s e p e r a t e d . Black magic fuckery. Please go buy a putty eraser.
Anyway for the pencil, I swear to god if you ever get this pencil, you will never use a normal mechanical pencil ever again.
Tumblr media
The pencil I'm using is called a drafting pencil, specifically Pentel Graphgear 500. There's tons of drafting pencil in the market but just look at this one because other's are expensive and you will cry. This pencil had a plastic body but the base is made of metal so its pretty heavy. It feels v e r y c o m f o r t a b l e on the hand, like the moment you hold it, you will believe that this is how mechanical pencil suppose to be. It just fits so perfectly with the contour of you finger. The weight feels so nice on your hands and the grip is very comfortable. The pencil sleeve also doesnt budge so you don't and won't have any issue of lead breakage (unless you press your pencil really hard)
Tumblr media
It's also very long-lasting. I have 2 of them in my pencil case. The one on the left were bought in 2021 from Muji. The one on the right were bought in 2015. It still works fine despite being 8 years old. I don't think I ever have any mechanical pencil that is long lasting like this one. This is legit one of the product that I would say would last a lifetime if you take care of it well.
This ends my sleepy deprivation fueled post for today.
TL;DR: Please go buy kneaded eraser and a drafting pencil I am on my knees rn-

Tachikawa〜!&Black Cat?Yumigeta Ako (23.08.26)
Good evening 🌝
I'm Yumigeta Ako 🛑
Thank you very much for your comments yesterdayー!
Apparently it was a Swiss Cheese Plant?!
Reading your comments it seems that Sato-san likes this plantー!
That got me excited 😄
There seem to be lots of other varieties too??
Now、I'm kinda curious about Swiss Cheese Plants 笑lol
And today was our Tokyo、Tachikawa Performance!
Thank you very much〜!!!!
It was fun♪❗️
When I first stood on stage during our rehearsal I thought 「It reminds me of Zepp Shinjukuー」!
Aren't they similar?!
They're on a different scale、but it has that live house feeling❗️
Plus I feel like we were about the same distance from the audience!
This is something I thought today、but don't Morning Musume。have surprisingly few performances in Tokyo…?
Since I've joined Morning Musume。our only full member performances have been Budokan、Ikebukuro、and Tachikawa?
It's surprising (°_°)
From here on I want to treasure each and every performance!
And on my way to the venue today、there was a residential area that reminded me of my hometown of Shizuoka which made me happy✨
And And!
For Halloweenー!

In this costume!
Doing up all of the buttons was hardー!
Yagi Shiori-san took this photo for me!
I'll tell you more about that tomorrow!
Look forward to it❗️
⋆┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈⋆
Well then it's time for today's 【Gettaa Life】✨
I'm the type to rewrite everything that is said during lessons in a single notebook!
Rewriting everything up into one notebook is a pain、but once you start it ends up being quite enjoyable???
Is that just me😂 I can keep it up for like an hour 笑lol
And、And、And、
When I started thinking about why I like writing up notes so much、the first thing that popped into my mind was
「Because I like writing in ballpoint pen」
That's right!
As soon I thought it I knew it was the reason!!!!
I really love ballpoint pens💕
I love ones with thin and scratchy tips、
And I also love ones with think tips like a fountain pen!
But as for the one that I'm currently the most obsessed withー?
It's 「Muji」's ballpoint penー🖊
Do any of you have one?!
I first bought it when I started middle school because I thought it would look cool in my pencil case、but then it ran out of ink and I stopped using them!
Then I bought another one recently!
Muji's ballpoint pens、are super great👍
The ink is really smooth and glossy!
They're also amazingly affordable!
They make writing up notes fun♪
I Getted 「The Key to writing up notes」✨
It's my recommendation for you
That's all!This has been 【Gettaa Life】!

Today I ate fried chocolate🍫
It was crunchy and deliciousー!
I remember when I was younger I wanted to eat fried chocolate but when I tried to fry chocolate in the frying pan it just went all sticky、so I wonder how fried chocolate is actually made…?
Please let me know if any of you know〜!!
I want to try again 💪❤️‍🔥
Well then I'll see you tomorrow!
This has been YumiGettaa Ako!Good night 🐵🐵🐵

Week 4 & 5 - How to analyse a work of design
We acquired skills in effectively analysing design work. We discovered that five key components aid us in articulating our thoughts about designed objects. Subject Matter & Meanings, Aspects of Forms and Contexts of Pieces, Processes & Purpose, Choices & Uses of Mediums.
Tumblr media
For example, this spoon.
Processes & Purpose: to eat
Subject Matter & Meanings: spoon
Choices & Uses of Mediums: stainless steel
Aspects of Forms: 16 cm
Contexts of Pieces: found in the kitchen, bought from muji
This is my favourite spoon, I use it to eat my breakfast lunch and dinner. The purpose of the watch is to eat, It holds value to me and my kitchen as my kitchen keeps it and I love to eat.
Knowing how to analyze design work holds power as it allows me to gain deeper knowledge on design decisions of renowned designers and illustrators. In my studio assignment I have touched on the topic of my Illustrator Des Kordilis and my Designer Ken Garland. Through thorough research and study of their portfolio, I grasped their unique style and seamlessly integrated it into my card design.
Week 5 we went to NMS National Museum Of Singapore, we were tasked to take several images of artifacts that caught our eyes. Implementing knowledge from the previous week I have learnt I used it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I took pictures of these particular pieces because in my eyes they are beautiful and that it is designed really well even for the lack of materials back in the past which really got me thinking that artist are really true artists as despite the circumstances they never fail to produce a piece that inhabits which glamour and art.
This field trip has really helped me open my eyes to how blessed we are to live in the 21st century as the things in the past was very problematic and our ancestors went through alot of suffering just to let us people of singapore call singapore our home and that it was very difficult for things to be accessed in the past which is a blessing for us now as it is very easy for us to access things in this generation of life.

just for kicks
what a day it is - a still, sunsteeped afternoon that's gifted us a convention of pale, cottony clouds and gentle, airbrushed streaks across an extraordinarily vivid sky. amid such beauty a man can sometimes sense a lightness of spirit. 'i sense a lightness of spirit,' i tell thakuru as we cross the hulhumale bridge on his bike. 'if only that made you weigh less,' he responds, this shameless fat shamer. i think of a retort but the splendour of the day evaporates my enmity and i find myself smiling. what a day to be alive - if poets happen to chance upon a day like this, they will cast aside their mighty pens and engross themselves in the business of taking nudes. in hulhumale, we head to the hiyaa flats. 'want to put your helmet under the seat?' asks thakuru after parking. 'will it fit with yours in there?' i say doubtfully. 'of course, your head's pretty small,' he replies and fits one helm into the hollow of the other. it's like magic. i could never have thought of this. thakuru is clearly a man of sharp spatial intelligence. 'what's your IQ?' i ask him. 'i've never tested,' he responds carelessly, moving with frightening speed towards the flats. 'why? have you?' 'no!' i respond quickly. too quickly for thakuru smiles. but if you MUST know, my IQ is 105 which is an entire five points higher than average. that's more than twice the genetic difference between us and the chimps, for perspective. we enter the building and there's a fair-sized crowd by the lifts. 'huh!' i say. 'forcing people into this hellhole. how long does it take for a lift to get here?' 'look at the display, man,' says thakuru. and dear lord, the lifts seem to traverse at LEAST three floors a second. soon, we scurry inside one and thakuru presses a button. the lift is see-through. to counter my nausea from the sight of quickly scrolling floors i read the signs within. 'hmm, no smoking,' i say. 'why doesn't it say no stabbing?' says thakuru. 'or no dealing?' 'what do you mean?' i ask. 'that's probably what the tenants will be getting up to soon.' 'what are you talking about?' i am utterly befuddled. 'never mind, we're here,' he says with a laugh.
we enter an apartment that's going through a complete makeover. 'it's a project i've taken on for someone close,' says thakuru as i examine the place. the sitting room and kitchen are in a narrow but long hallway that opens up to a balcony with sweeping ocean views. next to the hall are small rooms. not tiny, just small. 'i suppose it's ok for a family of two. four max. no more,' i tell him. 'he's a single father,' says thakuru. 'it's good enough.' i know these buildings have been much maligned but this apartment, at least, isn't THAT bad. like i wouldn't mind living here. if it's quiet. and has internet access. and a memory foam mattress. muji sheets. marshall speakers. maybe a box of galler truffles in a mini fridge. 'truffles in a mini fridge?' asks thakuru, concerned. 'you OK husenfulhu?' goddammit. 'just thinking out loud,' i mutter. 'if you can call them 'thoughts,'' he says affectionately. 'i'm done here. good progress. let's go have some tea.'
when i climb behind him i say: maybe we've misjudged yameen. it really wasn't that bad in there. 'you know, some of these apartments can get real scary,' says thakuru. 'what do you mean?' 'they subdivide the rooms to fit a family of eight or ten in there. it's pretty dismal.' 'wow!' i say, flabbergasted. 'how does your friend feel about living in proximity to such poverty?' 'at least the poor here have balconies and a sea breeze.' we stop at kick's for masroshi and i order a strawberry milkshake. they serve us quickly. the milkshake's decent, thick, creamy. the masroshi meanwhile demands a very public apology. later, as we pass amin avenue, something bright on a glass panel of a penthouse catches my eye. 'my god it's a TOWEL!' i say. 'like one you'd get for a hundred bucks from agora.' 'tackiness is a lifelong ailment,' says thakuru. 'it has no cure even admist refinement.' how 'bout that? even thakuru's wisdom rhymes. what a man. and WHAT a DAY!

Home from Paris, still feeling a bit dizzy (being on a plane or a bus for longer than 2 hours messes with my sense of balance, and it seems, harder than it used to, as in I'd expect it to be gone after a decent amount of sleep, but it's been over 24 hours now). I usually feel happy in Paris, and this time was no exception. It was still spring-fresh and lush, with loads of flowers blooming, and it even stinks somewhat less nowadays with the tons of new free public toilets installed in the past few years. Annoyingly, I am allergic to something in the air over there this time of year, probably tree pollen, it made my eyes sting and my nose runny. And all the second-hand smoke and exhaust fumes didn't help.
Shopped until it became boring (even if I basically ended up with just some underwear, the usual skincare stuff, good tea from Chinatown grocery stores, and a few bits and pieces from Muji), went to see some new areas like Butte-aux-Cailles, a thunderous live at Salle Pleyel, a nice little exhibition at a small museum I hadn't visited before, and ate lots of Chinese takeaway, pastries and bread. Strained my budget, but enjoyed myself. Felt really tired upon getting home though.
Tried to catch up on sleep and do laundry today, and made a decent meal for dinner. And went for a short outing to get groceries + pick up the still-in-wintery-mood momoxfashion order, containing NWT Ecco boots, a navy Daniel Hechter coat and a dark green Pringle turtleneck sweater. Quite pleased with everything, the boots fit and vaguely have the vibe of stompy, fetishy Batman boots while still fitting with my weird "let's pretend I'm into horses" thing of late. The coat was way underpriced for the quality, in perfect condition except needing a good lint roller session (I'll still wash it though). And the sweater is perfectly pill-free wool, needs a few tiny repairs at the shoulder seams and benefitted from a wash (it feels much cleaner and softer without the dry cleaning residue).
Massage therapy tomorrow, and lots of work that needs to get done.

May 5, 2022
Last day off for Golden Week (yes, we have class tomorrow, just like Monday—lovely bookends for a string of holidays, right?). Tomorrow, Golden Week homework is due, plus we have a grammar test.
So, for the morning, I stayed in and took care of homework. I told myself that if I finished before noon, I could reward myself by doing some exploring.
Thankfully, I finished up around 11, so I figured I could treat myself to a visit to Yoyogi Park, since I missed out on it before.
From where I live, Harajuku Station is the best way to get there, but instead I opted to get of at Shibuya instead. Mostly to grab a photo of Hachiko before I wandered over to the park. What a good dog.
Tumblr media
Along the way to the park, I picked up a snack to sit and enjoy there. I was not the only person with the idea to picnic in the park today. The place was crazy busy. Almost every open space in the grass and under the trees was filled with people out enjoying themselves. But there was still a sense of quietness and moments where things weren’t so busy. One of those moments was on the walkway between the walkway from Shibuya to the park.
Tumblr media
Near where I found a place to sit an eat for a moment, there was a huge group of Japanese crows being silly. Some of them were bathing in the pond, but others were chasing each other around all over the place. Even they were enjoying the nice weather, I think.
Tumblr media
I strolled through the park for a bit before I made my way to the Harajuku exit. I let myself wander Harajuku for a bit, but got a bit overwhelmed by the crowds, so I ended up heading back to the dorm. I had more studying to do, anyway.
Tumblr media
After a bit of studying, I ended up wandering over to Muji for some study supplies. Let me tell you, I am addicted to that place. And this time, I checked out their food section. I ended up getting a 40 pack of barley tea bags because I’m weird and like barley tea. And for the price of two 1.5 liter bottles of the pre-made stuff, I can make 40 liters myself. Score.
With my new study supplies, I returned to the dorm for even more studying. I’m really not good at this whole studying thing, but I’m really trying.
Eventually, I did get bored of studying and paused.
I heard we might be going out for karaoke tomorrow, and I have a reputation for knowing the lyrics to Japanese songs to uphold, so I spent some time this evening memorizing some lyrics (honestly I knew most of the lyrics to this particular song, but I was missing just enough that I wouldn’t feel comfortable saying I know it). Hopefully, I get to actually use it tomorrow. Plus, to a certain extent, studying Japanese lyrics is still me studying the language, so maybe it’s helping me overall? Who knows.
Hopefully I can report a successful evening of karaoke tomorrow!

2021.04.06 a talk event at Meguro Rock-May-Kan film screening at Namba Hatch with Kyo and Shinya - PART 2
Report by とあ on twitter (topics are not reported in order things happened, I followed the order they posted, 1st and 2nd session are mixed)
"What is Shinya's hair colour called? Is it okay to copy you [and dye my hair the same colour]?"
Shinya: Violet rose.
Fujieda: How about copying?
Shinya: It's fine.
Kyo: ... Violet rose?! It's called violet rose? (laughing)
Fujieda: It's sounds like a song title.
Kyo: Like our next song? Doesn't sound exciting at all (laughing).
Kyo: Did you name it Violet rose yourself?
Shinya: No, when I requested pink shade I got this colour, when I asked what colour is it I got told it's Violet rose.
Kyo: It's not pink at all.
"Which place is painful to get tattooed on?"
Kyo: It's said that the hand's palm and back of the foot. The one on this hand was done by the person who did the tattoo on my back, but she lives in Germany. She told me it's easy for the colour to fade on the palm. That's why she told me she will use an ink that's not approved in Japan but will not fade, and she did it for me.
Fujieda: It's really not fading.
Kyo: That's why she used some weird ink. Suspicious one, with something bad for people in it.
There are four small tattoos on this hand
(during this talk Kyo was showing his palm almost all the time)
Shift of conversation to the topic of tattooing a giraffe on Fujieda's back.
Kyo: A giraffe going all over your back to your thighs.
Fujieda: And the head would be on the neck?
Kyo: No, on the shoulder. So when you move your arm the giraffe's head would move as well. If I had a machine I could do it on you.
Fujieda: When there's a chance.
Kyo: Eh, if there's a machine?
(*there's a brilliant word play here with 機械・machine and 機会・opportunity both being read as 'kikai'🤣)
Kyo: Then I'm going to get the machine and tattoo you. Using that not approved ink from Germany.
Fujieda: No no no, we're talking about different 'kikai'.
Fujieda: "I'm in trouble eating too much. What should I do?"
Kyo: Eat!
"What do you drink when you wake up?"
Shinya: Cola.
"What lip balm do you use?"
Kyo: Cola flavour.
"A drink you like"
Kyo: Ehm... Dekavita, Oronamin C, things like that. But it's not good to drink those too much.
"Favorite chocolate sweets"
Kyo: Ehm... there are too many. ...Ah, but I love cheap sweets.
"When you eating a candy do you suck it till the end or do you crunch it?
Kyo: I crunch it from the start.
"Your favorite Japanese sweets"
Shinya: Ichigo daifuku (rice cake with a strawberry)
"Anything special about Namba Hatch, first time in a while?"
Shinya: Not really. First time since we played here and not for a show. It's feels quite empty.
Kyo: I have something I buy every time I come to Osaka, but I'm annoyed because they weren't sold. Half of me is made of sweets! I always buy 3 or 4 flavours of Curl before going back but I couldn't find them.
(*Curl is a corn puff snack)
Kyo: I never talk to the shop clerk, but this time I checked the shop few times and couldn't find it so I asked. I got told they only have cheese flavour so I got it and left.
Kyo: But don't send me Curl. It'd be troublesome to start receiving so many Curl packs. I'd get them myself.
Before I bought 4 packs to take home but by the time I was home I only had one left.
"What type of dogs do you like?"
Kyo: It's a secret. You'll know eventually.
Shinya: small dogs.
"What colours do you like besides members colours?"
Takavayashi: How were those colours decided? By the hair colour?
Kyo: That's what I think?
Shinya: They were decided without my knowledge.
Takabayashi: it's pink for you, right? Although it doesn't really match you?
What colour do you like best?
Shinya: Black.
(two if them look at each other in silence and laugh)
Takabayashi: How about you Kyo?
Kyo: Pink!
"Merchandise item you like"
Shinya: I guess the travel pouch.
Fujieda: Are you using it?
Shinya: Today I brought a smaller one.
Fujieda: Eh? You use it...
Kyo: He said he doesn't. The size is wrong.
Fujieda: Btw where's your bag from?
Shinya: It's from MUJI.
Fujieda: How was the hot pack? It's warm!
Handed it to Kyo
Kyo: Yeah, it's warm... but it was supposed to be released last time.
Fujieda: Eh? Saying that does it mean it was your idea??!
Kyo: Yup. Actually I wanted to have it last year, last year end was cold right? But the design wasn't done in time.
That's why it didn't come that time, just now. Niw it's not needed anymore. ...I hope you can use it next winter.
(*aaaaah so that's why he was poking at Fujieda so much about it☹️ it'd have been great last December!😆 but it'd definitely be useful next winter!!😊)
Fujieda: That's true, let's use it next winter. And it can also be used as a power bank so that can be used now.
Power strip.
Fujieda: Before this event Shinya was using this backstage. There aren't enough outlets backstage.
Kyo: Lol... is there really that few outlets backstage?
Fujieda: Well... not that few. But he was using it.
Kyo: Huhm.
Kyo (looks at Shinya): what is that, drawn on it?
Shinya got the power strip in his hands.
Shinya: That is cats who got electrocuted.
Kyo: Those are cats? Why cats?
Shinya: Who knows.
Fujieda: But isn't it cute?
Kyo: Yup, ...I guess it is.
Kyo likes the hoodie.
Kyo: The design in the back was drawn by the person who is my tattoo artist after I asked.
Fujieda: Why a hoodie?
Kyo: Eh?If its something to use it at home... you can't use a heat pack at home. Only a loony would use a heat pack at home. It's better to just turn on the heating. So it'd be crazy to use heat packs at home.
Kyo: and then you also won't use the pass case. And no use for the travel pouch at home nor the sticker...
Fujieda: What about the tote bag? Shinya is using it, for his shoes etc.
Shinya: I'm using it. I didn't bring it today though.
"In an old interview you said that because you couldn't afford to stay in a hotel you slept in the car and thought of sleeping position like yoga, what kind of position was it?"
Kyo: I said that?
Takabayashi: In a magazine interview I think? Didn't you said you didn't stay in a hotel?
Kyo: Saying I slept in the car, it must have been when traveling?
Kyo: You're sitting, right? There's someone next to you so totally no space. Saying it's like yoga, so like this, your head goes down and your legs go up, kinda have to turn around
Shinya: I thought then Kyo had a great idea, when I tried it, it was comfortable.
Kyo: I've put a plastic box in the legs and used it for my head, rose my legs, like L shape.
Fujieda: Is that really comfortable?
Kyo: Yup.
Takabayashi: There won't be any swelling, if you raise your legs.
Kyo: But in the past, when we got to the venue I was in that position some fan suddenly opened our car's door. I was so upset she saw the L shape position.
Fujieda: It's also hard to believe someone would just suddenly open your car door.
"How do you like your meat cooked?"
Kyo: rary rare
Fujieda: You mean to grill it only a little bit? Like sizzle siz..done?
Kyo: Yup.
Fujieda: How about you Shinya?
Shinya: Medium rare.
Kyo: You don't eat Yukhoe? (*dish similar to tartare steak)
Kyo: Isn't it rary rare?
Shinya: But that's special.
"A song you just hum"
Kyo: the '♪gohan ga susumu gohan ga susumu♪' one
"Do you look at the needle when you get an injection?"
Kyo: Fixedly. I also watch when I'm getting tattooed.
"You should know that ZARAME DONUTS bacon donuts will come back, so don't worry."
Kyo: .......? What? How do you know that?
Fujieda: When we were in Nagoya we got told the same. That for now they are gone but they will be available again.
Kyo: Uhm... Who are they? Why do they know this? Are you the shop's spy or something??
"A vegetable you like"
Kyo: what spring veg are there?
Fujieda: Bamboo shoots and so on.
Kyo: Bamboo shoots!
"What are you into right now."
Kyo: Sneakers and Bugs Bunny.
Fujieda: Batsu Bani?!
Kyo: Batsu Bani lol
Fujieda: What's that? Batsu Bani?
Kyo: It's a character...
Fujieda: Eh? Do you know it?
Takabayashi: Of course.
Fujieda: Batsu Bani... I have no idea. I didn't bring my phone so I can't check... What kind of character is it?
Kyo: I said.
Fujieda: Baksu Bani?? ...ah! Bunny! It's a rabbit?
"What fabric softener do you use?"
Shinya: No preference. Something smooth
Takabayashi: Not the pods?
Shinya: No. Water... should rather say liquid.
Takabayashi: I'll look for it next time.
Kyo: Any softener would be okay for me, but there's Fafa, isn't the bear super cute? Have you seen that commercial? Where the bear falls on the towels. It's very cute. Watch it. It's on the net. It makes me feel better even when I'm irritated.
Fujieda: So at the moment you like two characters, FaFa bear and Bugs Bunny.... !!! Bugs Bunny! You meant Bugs Bunny!
Kyo: You finally got it 😆

1. take notes every time you’re in lecture, and on applicable readings. so many people say that they’re bad at taking notes...when they NEVER take notes. taking notes is like any skill; the only way you get better is with time and practice. once you take notes consistently, you will develop a style of notetaking that works for you.
2. rewriting your notes is valid. i see a lot of studyblrs and studygrams talk about how they never rewrite notes and that rewritten notes are a waste of time. i don’t agree. i think rewriting your notes can be an effective study method, provided you do it as soon as possible after the material is covered in class. not only does rewriting your notes make them neater, which can be nice if you have hard to read handwriting, but rewriting your notes lets you actively review material to solidify gaps in your understanding, rather than passively reading over the notes. of course, don’t do it just for the aesthetic, but i rewrite most of my notes and i’m okay with it.
3. handwriting your notes > typing your notes, in most cases. some people genuinely need to type notes and that is okay too. but most studies show that typing notes in lecture means they’re less effective at helping you remember the information covered. this is because when you type your notes, you’re more likely to copy down the information verbatim because most people type faster than they can write. when you handwrite your notes, you have to pick and choose what to write down because you can’t go quite as fast, and you are more likely to convey the information in your own words. if you like the convenience of digital notes but want to handwrite for better retention, consider taking your notes on a tablet with a program like goodnotes, which lets you handwrite with a stylus. but good old fashioned pen and paper works just as well if not better! i’m a pen and paper stan myself.
4. functionality is more important than aesthetic. you don’t need to own any specific type of stationery to take good notes. maybe you don’t live near a muji store, maybe you like ballpoint pens better than gel pens, or maybe you just can’t be bothered to buy “aesthetic” stationery when what you can find at dollar tree works fine. that’s okay! purchasing specific stationery items won’t necessarily get you better grades. it’s really all about how you’re taking the notes. similarly, you really shouldn’t feel the need to worry about drawing elaborate diagrams, putting calligraphy titles on every lecture, or having the best handwriting when you take your notes. if these things help you learn or motivate you to study, that’s great, but you shouldn’t feel pressured to have “fancy” notes if it doesn’t suit your learning style.
5. for humanities classes, focus on concepts. for stem classes focus on examples. you kind of have to shift gears when you’re taking notes for different types of classes. in stem classes, understanding how to apply the concept is paradoxically much more important than having a super great understanding of the definition of the concept. so if your lecturer is working through a really long example, that’s not an excuse to zone out because you’ve already written down what the definition of the concept is. memorizing the pythagorean theorem is useless if you have no idea how to apply it. for your humanities classes, define as many key terms in your notes as you can if you don’t know what to take notes on. i’m grossly oversimplifying here, but you can kind of think of these classes as vocabulary courses where you’re looking to really understand what the words mean. you can later go back in and add examples.
6. for faster notetaking, use a highlighter, a quick drying pen, and correction tape. fancy gel pens might feel nice, but when you are taking notes in a fast paced lecture, waiting for them to dry so your notes don’t smudge can be a real hassle. i would honestly recommend using a ballpoint, felt tip pen, or quick-drying gel pen as an alternative, even though these maybe aren’t as “aesthetic.” if you make a mistake, go for correction tape over correction fluid, because you don’t have to wait for it to dry and you can write immediately on top of it. if you like to add color to titles or key words, use a highlighter instead of a colored pen, as this is a lot faster than switching between pens.
7. don’t make your color-coding too complicated. i don’t use a strict color code for my notes because it’s not really practical for me, but i do like to add color to their notes, especially when it comes to memorizing specific types of information. if this is a tactic you’re considering trying out, i would recommend that you keep it very simple. try to limit it to three colors max. too much more than that and you’re liable to mess it up and get confused. you want the colors in your notes to simplify them, not make the information more difficult to digest.
8. focus on what the lecturer is saying, not what’s written on the slides or handouts. you’re not going to lecture to read powerpoint slides; you’re going to learn what the lecturer has to say, so if the lecture is going really fast, focus on the things that they’re saying rather than the presentation. this may feel counterintuitive, but most lecturers provide slides/other supplementary materials prior to lecture or after the lecture, and if they don’t, you can always send an email and ask. if you find yourself mindlessly writing down the info from the presentation or handouts and then zoning out, consider printing out the slides prior to class and annotating them with the lecturer’s comments. if they’re good at lecturing, most of the information probably won’t be on the slides anyway. remember, a lecture is a one time thing. you can always get the slides later obviously, this has changed a little in the time of rona because a lot of lectures are recorded for you to watch later, but i still think this is relevant because i don’t think anyone wants to go back and rewatch a zoom lecture because they weren’t paying attention!
9. organize your notes in a way that makes sense to you. you want your notes in a central location when it comes time for that final! maybe you want to have separate notebooks for every class, or maybe one binder or notebook with multiple sections. maybe you want to date your notes or title them so you can remember specifically at a glance what is covered in each section. maybe you want to mark up your notes with page flags so you can easily flip to the most important sections. how you organize your notes is up to you, but it’s important to have some kind of system so you can study them with ease.
10. for notes on readings, summarize, summarize, summarize! if you have readings you want to take notes on, it’s not necessary that you copy down every single fact or key term. this will take forever, and more often than not, you will burn yourself out. instead, try to summarize what you’re reading in your head. try to write every paragraph as one or two sentences. this will force you to put the reading into your own words-active learning again-rather than painstakingly writing down extraneous information.

twenty one: i keep waking up in rooms i don't recognize and then realizing that i am still dreaming. my therapist says this is a symptom of a dislocated knee. i have not gone running since march. everyone that i know is lying to me
when i was a kid my parents used to take us to the same restaurant for brunch every sunday. it was on the first floor of a shopping mall which had big panes of glass stitched together for a ceiling and consequently let in far more natural light than your average building, but the restaurant itself was dark. moody. the walls were black and so was all the upholstery. the coffee mugs the waitresses served you coffee in were so dark you couldn't tell how full they were unless you looked extra hard at them, which i rarely did. in most memories of this place i'm seven or eight and i only drink two things: lemon tea and milk. so i'm sitting there with my frosted plastic cup of lemon tea, methodically stirring in my syrup with a skinny metal spoon because they make their lemon tea from scratch here which means no sugar and lots of tea, and my parents are drinking from their big adult mugs, and my sister's picking apart the roasted tomato on my dad's plate, and life, well. life is simple. good.
i can't remember when we stopped going there but i know that by the time i was nine and traipsing around in the hallways of the chinese primary school my parents had transferred me to, it had closed down and been replaced with some other restaurant whose name and shape i can't recall. well before i turned sixteen that entire wing of the first floor was demolished and replaced with the monstrosity that is singapore's flagship muji store. the muji's still there today. it's got a retail area and a few showrooms showcasing lifestyle choices for the upper-middle class citizen and a cafe with a dining area marked out by eclectic hanging decor that looks like a hundred little wastepaper baskets made from twine tied together to form a spotty mural of sorts. i'm fond of the cafe. their desserts are on the expensive side but they're thoughtfully made and look pretty in pictures, prettier in person.
your childhood years are one of those things that gets shinier the further away you stand from it, like how a bad experience becomes bittersweet by necessity if you give it long enough or you'll be stuck carrying that baggage with you forever. looking back, for example, on spring, i am inclined to see the educational takeaways instead of the moments in which my brain shut off and was replaced with a vat of screaming kittens. in this way we propel ourselves forward with the wisdom of the past, scrounged together from moments of pain and deep embarrassment. in this way we find ways to stay alive.
this summer i have wound up in upperclassmen housing by some unfortunate trick of fate. my apartment suite has five bedrooms but only four of them are occupied; i live in the room at the end of the hallway. my flatmates live in the next three. it has been five days since i moved in and i am convinced all of them think that they are living with a cryptid constructed in the scp containment breach format and unsure how to let them know that they are correct without making it personal. last night i woke up after a brief period of dreaming to use the bathroom; while washing my hands in the sink one of my flatmates walked past in the hallway behind me. 'hey, it's you,' she said. 'i feel like i haven't seen you forever. i mean. i've seen you, but i haven't seen seen you, you feel me?' asleep on my feet and ready to crash facefirst into bed, i nodded. 'yes.' she stood there for a few seconds as if expecting me to say more, but i had a vending machine for a brain at the moment and couldn't find it in me to press any more buttons. i certainly could've tried. but i was tired.
when i got on campus in february i resolved to sign up for therapy sessions with the school's mental health services since i was paying an ungodly amount for 'health insurance' (not a thing in singapore, really; not necessary in most places except america, really) anyway and i might as well make use of some small part of the astronomical sum that had been deposited in the pockets of some old white people i would likely never meet in my life. i got as far as filling out the form embedded in the school website and opening the automated email i received a few days later asking me to list my free times each week. i forgot about the rest. we are therefore entering the summer of my twentieth year without a goddamn clue what the inside of my head looks like apart from the fact that it must be pretty cool in there. it has to be cool. if it isn't cool what's the point of holding onto any of it anyway? we live for the spice of life. like garlic powder. cumin. oyster sauce.
this morning i went to target to look for sugar. the dining hall here doesn't do any of its vegetables justice but their desserts are to die for, and i've found myself suffering from a mild withdrawal since i started scrambling eggs and boiling about five hundred grams of cauliflower a day for the sheer therapeutic effect of it and because i don't really know any better. the target near campus is located in a shopping mall and surrounded by miles of parking space on both ends. while walking back across that stretch of empty parking space, i came across a smear of orange on the pavement. it was an orange. or it had been. the rind had been ground into the gravely surface of the road by a repetitive smoothing action so that it looked less like a bit of roadkill and more like it had been there all along. i can't stop thinking about that orange. who the fuck drops an orange in the middle of a road? why didn't they pick it up?
i have been cursed with an idea. it came to me last night before i fell asleep and it has been sitting on my shoulder since then like the devil in the popular angel-and-devil writing device which all nine year olds are taught by their teachers in chinese class, whispering to me about how great things will be if i can teach myself the fundamentals of sound design in three days. unfortunately it is when one decides to start a war that they are forced to confront their contacts list and the vast, untraceable geography of its contents. i cannot tell you if anything will result from this. but i hope that it will.
back when i still talked to her i mentioned the idea of doing puzzles to soothe the mind once and she took to it with so much genuine enthusiasm (she was always enthusiastic. too enthusiastic. enthusiasm was the problem, and the lack of willingness to curtail it the thing that eventually nailed the coffin shut) that i went to target the next weekend and bought a set of four puzzles depicting various scenes from old disney films. over the last two weeks i have done each puzzle three times, save for the last one, in which mickey and minnie mouse waltz down a red carpet and the people on the sidelines cheer for them with champagne moustaches and glittering beads for eyes. i cannot decide if this is meaningful. i cannot see the point of summer. but i am trying.
i don't remember the name of that sunday brunch restaurant. i don't remember the names of a lot of places our parents brought us when we were children, but my sister has been on a nostalgia trip since april and sends me screenshots of old pc games we used to play together from time to time. ernie's adventures in space. timmy's sea adventures. barbie island princess. i open each image and feel something inside of me physically ache in response. it appears that despite my best efforts, i will never be seven years old again.
i'm not a huge fan of lemon tea anymore. i prefer water. how it cleanses the palate like a vacuum cleaner sucking up all the dust and grime in a musty room. it's hard to distinguish between the inside and the outside of a thing when both are the color of a blood-red sunset but we try our best, you know? we draw lines on the sidewalk with chalk and we say 'here is my side of the universe and here is yours'. we act diplomatic when inside we are drunk and slurring our words all over the bartender's white vest. and then, because there is nothing else to do on this planet, we keep on living.

Studying as a korean
Hi! My name is Seung Min (성민) and I am currently studying in an international system outside of Korea. This blog is entirely personal and I don’t think I’ll receive much attention.
Through the years I’ve lived abroad, I’ve discovered many good things about the western studying system and also aplying some of the techniques I used to do back in Korea!
Simple is always better. Using many colors may make your notes look very nice and neat, but when you have many pages to do, it can become unbearable. I discovered this on my first year, I used to make very pretty and clean notes but I ended up despising them because of how many hours I would spend decorationg those. That same summer I discovered muji and all their stationery, and let me tell you it was a game changer. I decided to get more into minimalism and this helped me with my note-taking skills so much. I use black gel pens for everything, using thicker ones on the introduction and parts I consider to be more important, after that I do a pretty but simple title using midliners. I have a color code for everything and my notes have looked the same ever since I started applying this method. The material I use is linked in other blog so if you are curious check it out!
Routines. Motivation can be great, we all love to study in a state of flow, but it is not the best long-term wise because it is volatile. I recommend creating routines in the first month of school, in which you will probably be very motivated. I have a schedule for finals and other one for mid-terms.At the end you’ll see my mid-term season daily routine. Total studied hours: 11 hours 15 minutes. Total slept hours: 4 hours. This schedule is quite extreme, but my friends in Korea are studying 14 hours a day, this motivates me a lot. Please, remember that rest is important, and soemtimes excesive studying can lead to poor performance.
Planning ahead: Please, always have a study plan on hand and make sure you know your syllabus, making sure you know what contents you’ll be studying per smester. Make a study plan and prioratize on certain subjects depending on your chosen major. I a plan with my subjects and the grades I expect to get form each one of them. This is a link to my goals per class taken. I haven’t started with my study plan yet, because school is a long way to come (I’m in vacation) but when I finish it I’ll put a link to it as well.
Motivation: As I already said motivation is not the best when it comes to studying, but a little will walways make routines easier to follow. That’s why planners and study time trackers are so great.
Tumblr media
This example does not belong to me and I don’t know the original source because I got this image form Pinterest (I link the website of the image, it’s in Japanese and gives good study advice too! google translate works for this part). In the left upper corner we see the date. On the right upper corner, we see the days left until the test. You should write the goal of the day. E.g: Finish chapters 7 and 8 and maths practice tests. Then a ‘To do list’ with everything that you will do in order to achieve your goal. The time table is very simple, going from 4am to 3am on the next day. The color code this person uses is: Gray for sleeping, blue for school, orange for studued time and pink for free time. She also marks other activities by writing them with a black pen. Usually the time table has 6 squares horizontally, each one being 10 minutes, let’s say you studied 1 hour and 20 minutes so you would highlight a whole row (60 minutes) and two squares form the next hour. In this person also added something they have to do and a song they’ve listened to that day as well as a task for the next day. You can also buy the pre-made version of it. Koyoko campus and 10 minute planner that is a more expensive verion but it it cuter I have to admit. I recomend giving it a first try hand made first before buying something you don’t know if it will work for you. You can use this planner to plan ahead as well as keeping track of your study time! But remember the study time must be actual study time.
Measuring study time: You can use anything you want, but a cooking timer works the best for me (look for study stopwatch on amazon, this one is my personal faourite and the one I’ve been using) and stop it if you are not focused! That way you’ll know how much actual time you studied.
4:00 AM- 4:15 AM Waking up.
 4:15 AM- 7:00 AM Study (2 hours 45 minutes).
7:00 AM- 8:30 AM Get to school (20 minutes).
8:30 AM- 11:45 AM Classes.
11:55 AM- 1:00 PM Study (1 hour 5 minutes).
1:00 PM- 4:00 PM Classes.
4:00 PM- 6:20 PM Study (2 hours 20 minutes).
6:20 PM- 7:00 PM Transportation (20 minutes)
7:05 PM- 7:30 PM Study (25 minutes).
7:30 PM- 8:00 PM Night routine and dinner.
8:00 PM- 12:00 AM Study (4 hours)
With all that said thank you for listening and make sure to let me know if you ever try this!

Second entry of @kururu418's Tales of Mewni: God Arc Contest. The demigod son of Hottie and Ho from Pucca, Ignacio of the Mexican Pantheon.
Name: Ignacio
Age: 30 years old
Birthday: April 7th (Aries)
Gender: Male (He/Him)
Pantheon: Mexican (Primarily in the subgroup of the Mexican Pantheon, Aztec, but can be also to appears in another subgroup of the Mexican Pantheon, Mayan too)
Appearance: Igancio is a muscular and tall figure. Igancio have a mixture of his father and mother's skin tone and his mother's feminine eye shape. The color of his eyes are black just like both parents. Despite his eyes are black, his left eye is partically blind from an incident between him and a titan. He have black hair and red streaks that looks as if it were fire styled in either a ponytail, a braid, or just letting his hair down. He used to have two red colored circular blush on each cheek, however he only have one now because a dark red scar over his left eye that extend over his cheek inflicted by a flaming titan. Ignacio wear a black smith gear similar to from this link here and that link. In Sooga Village, Ignacio wear a hanbok which comprised of gray baji, white jeogori (basic upper garment), blue baeja (traditional vest), and maroon goreum. His casual attire when he is in Mexico are a brown sombrero tied in a orange ribbon, brown sandals, a pantalòn, a poncho, and a camisa underneath it. His casual appearance make people assume he is a llama shepherd not knowing he is a demigod. In his god mode, he look exactly like a Mayan Warrior with metal armor legs and gaulets he made through his blacksmith skills. In his alternative god mode, Ignacio appear as an Aztec Eagle Warrior: His eagle helmet is coiled in purple, green, and yellow feathers, an amulet of a jaguar, wristbands with red feathers tied around his wrists, a blue-and-green loincloth, and steel armor plated legs that he forged. The reason why I made two god forms for him is to represents the two of the subgroups in the Mexican Pantheon, the Mayans and the Aztec Panatheons (whose shared custody over him) he is in. Therefore he switch form depending on the people are the descendants of the Aztec or Mayan.
Before he got two cuts, a burnt scar, and one partically blind left eye, he wore a full body armor whose design is similar to Muji.
Background: Ignacio —born with the name Hwa-Jae— is the demigod son between the goddess of the fire swamp and protector of the lava peppers, Hottie and a human, Ho. Ignacio was born and raised in Sooga Village and then the Fire Swamp when Igancio's god powers peaked at age ten and his mother began co-training him with her husband to hones his fire based abilities. Hwa-Jae was taught Korean martial arts from his dad to defends him while his mom taught him agriculture of the Fire Swamp. She hope that one day, Hwa-Jae will be ready to take up the duty as the protector of the Fire Swamp and it's Lava Peppers alongside her when the time have come. Young Hwa-Jae always thought he and his mother were from the Chinese Pantheon because they lived in China surrounded by Chinese culture and people worshiping the gods of this very Pantheon in form of statues and temples to worship them. He even met deities who were mostly from the Chinese Pantheon came to get a monthly supply of lava peppers (some deities want to eat spicy foods and lava peppers are a popular ingredients in heaven). That is until he was 13 years old, when he learn from his mother that she is a minor fire goddess from the Mexican Pantheon and the reason why she reside in China. To prevents the lava peppers from extinction by the hands of foreigners coming to Mexico in the Spanish Conquest (February 1519 - August 13, 1521). Ignacio, been focus on his father's roots and does not know his mom's roots, spark his interest in his mom's heritage and Mexican Culture. He ask his mom to teach him her culture, such as Xilam and learning how to speak Spanish. At the age of 18, he legally change his name to Ignacio. On that same age and that very day, one of the panthaeons were hunting down a fiery titan in the heaven, the fiery titan escaped and ended up in the Fire Swamp and destroyed almost all the fire peppers and attacked his mom, the more damages would have occurred if it weren't for Hwa-Jae fought the titan with martial arts, his pyrokinesis and the dangpa he smithed. The titan and the demigod fought for hours, he got a cut on his nose and lips. When Hottie watch as the monster burnt-scarred her son and made him partically blind on one eye, Hottie threw him a weapon he never knew of. That weapon is his macuahuitl. Ignacio decapitated the titan monster. After defeating the monster, he was bed-ridden for three weeks and prior to the three weeks, he got an invitation from the Mexican Pantheon to come to Mexico for a chance in meeting him alone, after words of him slaining the titan, they want to see if it's true. His mother does not want him to leave his home because she is her child and there is a chance she and Ho will not see him again if the Mexican Pantheon take him away (fearing he be punish for being half human). After a few long talking and convinces, Ho and Hottie agreed to let him goes alone to Mexico.
Ignacio hops on a plane with his luggage and went to Mexico and travelled to the location according to the invitation, a hidden temple. Ignacio meet the members of the Mexican Panthaeon and showing them the head of the titan. Impressed and astonguised by how Ignacio defeated the titan monster, the gods select him to be the protector of the natives in Mexico from being forgotten despite the knowledge of their existence is preserve yet vague. Why? The era is now belongs to the new generations and rules change making some impossibles possible. Things change leads to the Mexican Pantheon gods being slowly forgotten and receiving less worships (and people mostly favor listening to popular Greek-Roman and Egyptian mythologies). They decided to have Ignacio stay in the Mexican Panthaeon to teach him their skills (like speaking Zaptec, Mixtec, and Nahuatl) to be worship as one of their own and assigning him tasks to goes down to Mexico, Earth to be a protector to fight for the natives in order for the Pantheon be remebers. By having him sent down to Earth can show people that the gods and goddesses (both major and minor) are still here or/and return to help them and bring back more people to worships them (and increase new followers by his presence). Whether Ignacio is sent down to Earth, he's disguised himself as a travelling llama shepherd who came from a small community of farmers. He traveled from communities to communites, with herd of llamas, (and carrying his weapons and over time a falcon companion) or be in his god form when something disastrous happened. Meeting his people for a few years now gains good words for him and the Panthaeon and experiences, he also discovered that the Mayans and the Aztec people are unfortunately have been pushed off and don't have great living conditions because of colonialism, deforestation, other environmental issues, and other issues.
Angered by how they were treated and no one didn't do anything to prevents this, Ignacio spent most of his time taking care of them and be under his protection for years. And he fight to have them properly recognized. People consider Ignacio and his deeds a blessings sent by Xiuhtecuhtli or actually Ignacio is Xiuhtecuhtli himself (which Ignacio say he is not).
Ignacio (now 30 years old) met one of the Ixazalvoh's oracles and tell him a divine message foretold to him that the Pantheon is becoming forgotten by the extinction of his people in the future that the Pantheon are unable to stop unless Ignacio accept the Greek God of Lightning, Zeus' deal and bring divine protection and land with prosperity. Unable to accept this, he decide to hunts down Astro after hearing from the oracle about Zeus’ decree of putting a target on Astro’s head. This is a once and a lifetime opportunity for the Mayans and the Aztec Natives to live a bettter life, a better home where they are not push off to have non-natives living in Mexico, no deforestation, rainfall to prosper crops instead of drought. If he get his head, he can request Oberon to give the Mayan and the Aztec natives so much land with unlimited fresh clean water supply to live on without worrying about being push away by people cutting down trees to make New building or gaining resources in Mexico and never have to worry of drought by having rain season, and finally gains more power to protect them. He is determined to win the deal or die trying by trading a monster hybrid's life exchange for millions of human lives to live.
Personality:
Ignacio is short-tempered, would rather work alone or solely with his panthaeon, and can be somewhat disrespectful to the gods from different panthaeons who are power tripping by treating their servants trash, ruining the lives of humans, and humiliating others whether if they are other gods/deities, humans, and their servants. Despite this, he has a lot of faith in himself and in his pantheon. He concern himself with any part of Mexico and birthplace, Sooga Village.
Ignacio is an honest man, though sometimes honest to the point where he is rude to others.
Ignacio is very calm and nonchalant, even while battling an opponent(s), but when angered, fights recklessly. He also has a hot-blooded side that takes pride in his skills and yearns for opponents to give him a fight worth his time.
When facing a threat that could threaten the lives in Mexico, he is seen as a hero and benevolent by the citizens. He seems to care about Mexico and the people (Mayans, Aztecs, and the Hispanics) who reside in it, and is upset when an end of someone's life he once knew. Beside Mexico, he care about his parents and his falcon he raised, Santo-Haneul.
He have knowledge for blacksmith thanks to Garu. It is more of a hobby than a skill in his perspective. He have an interest in blacksmithing than cooking (half disappointing his father). He crafted armor parts, tobacco pipes, and swords + other weapons on rare occasion. He does not sell them. Instead he just put them in his collection of craftmanships. He be very angry if someone stole his creation and broke them. He can give his creation to anyone with a burning spirit. He is humble, and believe gods like Hephaestus smith better then him. He wanted to be call the demigod of blacksmith so he sometime call himself as one, but people question him if he is due to seeing him fight combat physically and using his powers causing him doubt.
Ironically, his father, Ho is one of the three best cooks in Sooga Village, Ignacio on the other hand is not like his father. He overburned the foods he cooked. When he didn't overturned the foods, he either miss some ingredient to the recipe, or forgot the salt.
Powers and Abilities:
• Martial Arts: Ignacio use a combination of taekkyeon (traditional Korean martial art) and Xilam, a martial art based on the combat methods by the Aztecs & Mayans.
• Pyrokinesis; Inheirting from both parents and practicing his powers for years, Ignacio's pyrokinetic ability is incredible. With this power, Ignacio can ignite his own flames at will and also control flames from external sources. The sheer power and size of his flames are tremendous, as is his extremely precise and fluid control of said flames. Ignacio also has a talent for replicating other people's flame techniques and abilities immediately upon contact. He can create a four meter barrier around himself that doesn't allow heat to pass through it. He can also creates a sharp blade of flames with his hand in case his dangpa or macuahuitl is broke. Speaking of his dangpa spear, he use his dangpa spear as a pole to fly to long-distance areas, and can control other ignited targets to direct them from great distances away.
• Lava Manipulations; He is an amateur level in lava manipulation. At first he thought he did not inheirt it until one day in Mexico, one of the three activated volcano erupted and he quickly stop an oncoming flow of the heated substance. He is able to turn lava back into earth but slower and more effort, while also being able to create large waves of molten rock. His ability is useful in producing obsidian. He would make a wall around himself, but he is unable to revert the rocky walls he made back into lava when making a wall to defense himself from a single attack, or a walls surrounding him to protect himself from attacks from all direction/around him. It could take an effort to convert the rocky wall back to lava and settles it down, but fail miserably than what he did the first time he used it. It can also drain his energy as well.
• Heat Immunity: Ignacio is immune to heat, being completely invulnerable to direct and indirect effects. However because he is a demigod, Iganacio be vulnerable to the heat in three hours and his internal organs may still be vulnerable. Ignacio is weak against the cold too.
• Mind Link; Ignacio have telepathic connection to his falcon, Santo-Haneul only. They can sense when the other is in danger and read each others mind. They can even shares each other's pains. If Santo-Haneul is killed, he will feel his pain and how he die, and then a wave of saddness be fell on him.
• Falconry; This skills allow Ignacio to tracks down his opponent using his mind link with his falcon. His falcon can swoop down and attack his target for a surprise attacks.
• Blacksmithing; Blacksmithing help Ignacio able to control his powers and vent his anger when cooking is not the best way in training. He created weapons and materials. He use lava manipulation to create obsidians for his macuahuitl. It is more of a hobby than a skill.
• Weaponry; Iganacio is able to proficient wield a macuahuitl (primary weapon) and a dangpa (secondary weapon) and use it against their opponents. The macuahuitl is a wooden club with a sun and flame design that have obsidian (he made them using sand and lava manipulation) embedded on them.
Relationships:
Hottie (Mother): Ignacio's questioning on why his mother choose to stay and protect the Fire Swamp, and it's resources, lava peppers in China lead him to learn more of his roots. He is more of a mommy's boy and genuinly listen to her. Ignacio is afraid of her anger especially when he scold at him. They bonds when the gods give him a chance (free time) to see her and his dad because his mom is a minor goddess while Igancio is a demigod. Since he is part human, he have needs and wants. That is her love and interacting with her. She is also one of the people who try to tell him not to hunts down Astro fearing that fightning a titan for the second time means be will not be lucky to survives. Ignacio is confident that he won't be defeated and tell his mom not to be worry about it. He already fought a titan once.
Ho (Father): Ignacio respect and genuinely listen to his father. Although Ignacio felt bad for dishonoring his father by not cooking any dishes at perfection and doubts that his father would accept him changing his name from Hwa-Jae to Ignacio. On the other hand, Ho doesn’t harbor any hard feelings towards his son and is happy that he is being his true self. The two still talk every now and then. It's wholesome, but it’s usually a bit awkward when Ignacio mispronounced a kanji and embrassed himself.
Pucca (Cousin): He loves his cousin and beside his parents, she is the closest person to him in the whole world. He loves her warm hugs and admires her physical strength and sweet-and-kind personality.
Santo-Hanuel (Companion): Ignacio got himself a Aplomado falcon and named him Santo-Hanuel after seeing him as the sole survivor of his family when he was just a chick with a broken wing after his home was destroyed by foresting. Ignacio took care of him and heals his wing using medicines given to him by Ix Chel, the Mayan goddess of healing and medicine. When he was about going to let him go, Santo-Hanuel have a strong attachment to him consider him as a member of his familia. Ignacio who he too felt attach to him decide to keep him and have Santo-Hanuel be his other eyes (because his left eye is partically blind), thus taught himself falconry. Together, they stop the injustice that is upon the surviving descendants of the Mayan and Aztec People. The Aztec god of the Sun and the war, Huitzilopochtli blessed the eagle and Ignacio the ability, mind link between him and Santo-Hanuel after seeing a strong bind between them as a reward for his efforts in protecting the aboriginals. When they communicate telepathically it sometime look like they are having a staring contest.
Patecatl - The Aztec God of Medicine and Healing and Ix Chel - The Mayan Goddess of Healing and Medicine: Ignacio are the patient to both gods whether he hurt himself for protecting the Maya and the Aztec people, or when he hurted himself while blacksmithing.
Buluc-Chabtan - Mayan God of War, Violence and Death: Ignacio avoids him likes a hawk. He heard story about him setting homes on fire, killing people, and roasting them on skewers over a fire. Ignacio make sure he won't be likes him.
Quetzalcoatl: He is one of the few gods in the Mexican Panthaeon who pleas him not to enter because killing the son of a Titan who anger the god will leads to nothing but destructions. However Ignacio did not believe in the Aztec God of Wisdom when the humans need him the most.
Quotes:
"I am Ignacio, demigod of fire and blacksmith from the Mexican Pantheon! Protector of the Mayas, the Azteces, and the Hispanics."
"If one live must sadly die, in order to get rid of millions of people's poor living conditions that would wipe them out of existence completely.... Then, I will do it."
"The only people who calls me by my birth name are my family."
The bulldozers are pushing down trees in the Lacandon Jungle. One of the construction workers hears a cry of a falcon. He take a glimpse of it and seeing it circling around the sky. He wonders why is there a falcon living in the rainforest. Then see something falling from a sky. His eyes are widen is that a meteorite heading towarding them. The "meteorite" landed is actually Ignacio in his god form on his Dangpa spear. He steps off and glare at the bulldozer passing toward him. "Detener, you are destroying Lacandon Jungle! Home to 700 Lacandon Maya! Leave now or face my wrath!" He jump and landed on the ground hard and lava gush out of the ground.;
"This is another day without rainfall. If the rains did not come as expected for a year or two, the communities could rely on stored water." He frown looking at the sky after touching the crops. "However, how long will they adapt from longer droughts? Long droughts stressed their political hierarchy and complex inter-regional trade networks." He grit his teeth and tighten his fist. His eyes turn from black to yellowish-orange. "I told the construction workers not to cuts down many trees, and this is what happens. They are lucky I did not burn them to death. Only have lava swallows up their bulldozers. I am not Buluc-Chabtan."
"Me siento como en casa.", Ignacio looks around in Pagoda. He miss his home so much, but he need to continue what he needs to do.
"For those of you demand blood, do not ask for a human sacrifrices! I do not care if any of you questions and insult their morals, this will not solve the problem of the Pantheon being forgotten. It's true that human sacrifrices have stop a very long time ago, but at least it is for preservation for their surival. If you all decide to demands human sacrifrices, especially children! This can leads to people worshipping you less. You all choose me for a reason, so don't change your mind by throwing me away to be erase from existence. I am a symbol of you all return. I am here to make your creations, your people that you abadoned after some of them decided to stop worshipping years ago." said Ignacio after hearing suggestions from the members of the Pantheon during his meeting with them to give them up-to-date on his tasks. "But without it, Huitzilopochtli be weaken giving a chance for Coyolxauhqui and her 400 brothers to defeat him." said a random deity. "Thanks you for mentioning it in case I forgot about it. Which I didn't. According to Quetzalcotal, Oberon already solve this by giving him an alternative resource to strengthen Huitzilopochtli without the need of blood very very long time ago."
"The clouds are so beautiful, mother." Said Ignacio. "Indeed son," said Hottie. "I am thankful for the gods for turning Mimixcoa into harmless clouds instead of destroying humanity." Ignacio added. "Indeed....." she said in an anguished tone rembering that and other times they did something terrible.
"Muchas gracias por la comida abeoji."
Trivia:
Even though he is from the Mayan Pantheon, his nationality is South Korean/Mexican. He is Korean from his father side of the family and according to Pucca Wikia, Hottie appears to be Mexican (or of Mexican descent).
Ignacio know Mixtec, Zapotec, Nahuatl, English, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean, but speaks Mixtec, Zapotec, English, Nahuatl, and Spanish all the time because he spends his time in Mexico for a long time that he need to relearn how to speak Chinese and Korean.
He have an allergy to cats and will sneeze when they are near him.
Fire Force character, Shinmon Bennimaru is the inspiration to Ignacio. TLOK, Bolin's Lavabending is the inspiration to Ignacio's ability in lava manipulation.
Ignacio was going to be in the Chinese Pantheon under the name, Bul Ai and participated in capturing and killed Astro so he could replace Master Soo as Sooga Village's village god because his leadership is poor and neglected watching over the village.;
In another previous version of him, he was call Meítàn. He represented the Greek Pantheon and is trained to become the next Ares under the mentorship of Ares, but abandoned him from his injuries from fightning and became the apprentice of Jack Spicer's grandmother, the reincarnated Hephaestus. I was planning on making his an ally for Astro, before the contest is official and the rules are established to have the entries be antagonists.
His old name, Hwa-Jae means "diaster caused by a fire" in Korean and Ignacio meaning "born from the fire" in Spanish. His falcon, Santo-Haneul means Saint (Spanish) and Heaven or Sky (Korean);
Based on his old name, Hwa-Jae, there were fire related incidents in Goh-Rong is caused by Igancio when he was just a school-aged child whose unable to either use his powers correctly and control his powers.
Ignacio's favorite foods are JaJang Noodles, Red Chile Pork Tamales, and Enomoladas.

Musicality
Ok I LOVE this story!! I made a whole story based off a lil convo @jemtoka and I had, and I made oc’s based off each of us and went to town. It was very fun to write, and I got to combine my music knowledge with my writing skills.
Enjoy!
When Benji had first set out to find the ghost of Beethoven, he wasn’t actually sure that he’d be able to do it. His brother had once called him “all bite and no bark”, a reference to the fact that out of the four brothers, Benji had been the only one to not outgrow his infant habit of biting things- or people- when stressed. But in this situation, he definitely felt like he’d bitten off more than he could chew.
He absentmindedly chewed on his chewing necklace as he drafted a grant proposal with his friend, Mujika. Muji was drawing in a notebook, something for his art classes, though he looked up when prompted to review the words that had appeared on Benji’s screen. Muji had done his fair share of research, and though he did want to help with the writing of the research paper, it had been agreed that Benji was the more… academic writer. The two of them had met through social media a couple of years ago, and once they’d started direct messaging, had become close friends quickly through a mesh of shared interests, similar humor, and a half-baked scheme to take over the world.
Which led them here, to a table in the back of a 24-hour McDonalds, Benji chewing the head off a stiff chewable bat pendant and Muji using his nocturnal tendencies to do things like “make sure his friend drank water and didn’t forget that he was a person.”
“Fo you fink ish bit avou duh Immoruhl Bewuved ith done? Ish kinda duh hoh vashis of arr puhposal so…” Benji trailed off, jaw absentmindedly moving over the poor bat, whose head was holding on by sheer force of will to the rest of its body.
“What?” Muji asked. He did not speak bat-in-mouth.
Benji pulled the pendant out of his mouth with an audible pop. “Y’think this bit about the Immortal Beloved is finished? It’s like, the whole basis of our proposal n shit.”
He turned the laptop towards Muji, who closed his notebook, set it to the side, and pulled the laptop in front of him. He read it quietly, and Benji began to tap out the beat to the song playing on low volume in his earbuds. He began to hum, too, murmuring lyrics under his breath as he stared off into the distance.
“I think it looks good.” Muji finally replied, turning the laptop back toward Benji and grabbing his notebook again. “I can’t think of anything else we could add to that section.”
Benji gave a little half shrug. “I guess you’re right.”
The two of them once again worked in solitude, only broken by Benji ordering fries at about 1 AM. At 3, they decided to call it quits, though Benji seemed more wired than ever and voiced some apprehension about “going to sleep when there’s so much work to be done, Muji!” Muji chastised him slightly and promised that they could come back the next day- or rather, later that day- to finish up. There were only slight revisions to be done, then it could be sent off to the Music Master Scholars, an organization dedicated to the care and keeping of the ghosts widely considered Music Masters, which included household names like Mozart and Beethoven, but also lesser-known composers like Joseph Bologne and Francesca Caccini.
Ghosts were, of course, a commonplace occurrence, though one could theoretically live their life without interacting with one. That was rare, though; ghosts had a tendency to wander, though they could only appear in places that held significance to them in life and graveyards, but even living in a house increased the average person’s chances of encountering a ghost exponentially.
But these ghosts were special, because of the knowledge they possessed and the lives they’d lead. The Music Master Scholars were the only people in the world who both knew and had access to the location of every ghost, and to join their ranks, one had to find the location of one of the ‘hidden’ Music Masters- of which Beethoven was the most hidden. Their non-administrative members were unknown, but said to be most, if not all, of the foremost music scholars in the world. How could they not be, with the Masters themselves guiding their research?
Benji and Muji really, really wanted to be Music Master Scholars.
When he was 10, Benji had been given some sort of “young musician” scholarship to visit Europe for a month. He was a double bassist, a dying breed in the modern age, and the fact that he had progressed from monotonic exercises to Baroque sinfonias in the span of four months had impressed his teachers.
His parents had gone along, too, mostly because they knew their child, and Benji did have a propensity to get into trouble. Devil’s luck, his mother had tsked, and that had been that.
He’d managed to escape the group in the middle of a museum, though he didn’t wander far. He just wanted to look at everything without feeling like people were constantly breathing down his neck.
Well. HE didn’t consider “the park near the museum” to be far. His parents did, though, he found out later.
At the park, he found a man. Well, not a man. A ghost. The ghost was staring wistfully at the museum in the distance, and started when he noticed a small child staring at him.
“Hi! Who are you?” Benji asked, clutching the stuffed animal his parents had gotten him at another museum the day before.
The ghost cleared his throat. “I’m uh…” He started in a raspy voice before pausing and clearing his throat again. “I’m,” He sighed. “I’m Johannes Brahms.”
“Yo-hahn Brahmzzzz.” Benji repeated, drawing out the last “s” sound. “Oh! You did music, right?”
Brahms smiled slightly, and nodded.
The two of them talked for a while before Benji’s parents arrived, harried and frustrated. They apologized profusely to the ghost, who insisted it hadn’t been a problem.
The whole experience left Benji starry-eyed, and with the help of a friend he’d made in Germany, he would call and converse with Brahms for hours, asking about counterpoint and meaning and technique and just in general picking his mind. The composer took this with grace, and seemed more than happy to answer the young musician’s questions. When he’d told Benji about the Scholars, Benji had immediately decided that he was going to be a Music Master Scholar.
Muji had played violin until he’d dropped out of high school to take care of his mom, and hadn’t resumed it until after him and Benji had been talking for a while. He didn’t know much about composition, but he loved music history, and after getting his GED and enrolling in college, had even majored in it. Plus, he just kinda just thought the whole thing was cool.
They’d been researching for a year and a half, with pointers from Brahms, and tips from a professor Benji’d had two years ago, a Classical scholar named Dr. Chang. Benji had once emailed her and asked, point-blank, if she was a Music Master Scholar, but she’d only sent back a cryptic winky face emoji in response.
The next day, after three more hours of sitting in McDonalds, revising the proposal (most of which was Muji saying “Benji it looks fine!” and Benji responding with “No, no, this comma in paragraph seven just makes it sound better! Ties it all together, don’t you think?”), it was sent off in an email, and Benji resolved not to think about it while Muji resolved to mention it at the most inopportune moments, just to mess with his friend a little.
They were approved a month later, and three months after that day at McDonalds, they were sitting on a plane heading to Austria, Benji mouthing practice phrases in German as Muji slept. They had about a month to traipse all over Europe in search of a ghost very few people had been able to find, and they were excited to start.
The first week was spent in Austria, visiting Beethoven’s own grave (a nonstarter; the ghosts there hadn’t seen Beethoven since he was buried, and none knew where he’d gone), his childhood home and the area surrounding.
Nothing.
The second week was spent in Vienna. There, they visited the ghost of Mozart, who was a fidgety, flighty sort. He was known for being somewhat immaterial, and often took to jumping on top of objects in a manner that caused the people around them to panic for a few seconds before realizing he was too immaterial to do anything more than whisper vaguely about his childhood. He’d tried to pet Muji’s hair and got annoyed when nothing happened, so it wasn’t a particularly long visit.
They tried to visit Haydn, but while the location of Haydn’s ghost was well-known, only Music Master Scholars were allowed to see him, as he claimed the crowds exhausted him, and he wanted to be able to give his full attention to those visiting him. It made sense, since ghosts used massive amounts of energy to communicate and interact with the world around them, and the more energy they expended, the less time they were able to spend on earth. Despite this, the two  of them did make an effort, but were summarily barred from entering.
“Next time!” Benji declared confidently as they walked to their next potential Beethoven hot spot.
They visited Brahms, who had resolved to meet them in Vienna upon learning they were coming, and spent a whole day with him, visiting locations which had been important to him and letting his impromptu history lessons wash over them with a look of awed reverence.
Beethoven wasn’t in Vienna, and by the third week the two friends were feeling the threat of rejection hot on their heels. They began keeping odd hours, trying their hardest to figure out their next move.
“Maybe we should reread our proposal? Clearly the Scholars saw something in it, right?” Muji theorized from the bed he’d claimed as his their first night in the hotel.
“Mmmm.” Benji responded from his position on the floor at the foot of his bed, still feeling the after-effects of a well-deserved mental breakdown.
“Come on, Benji!” Muji tried to motivate him. “We can do it! You’re a super cool music spy, remember?”
Benji huffed at the reminder of an old, inane conversation between the two. “I don’t know, Muji. I think it’s kinda pointless.”
“Come on, Benji!” Muji tried again. “This is like, your dream! It’s now or never! Put our mutual brain cell to use so we can find Beethoven!”
Benji sighed and got up. “Fine, fine.” He murmured as he got off the floor, grabbed his copy of the proposal from his bag, laid down on the bed, and stuffed another chewable pendant into his mouth. “Wet’s fee.”
Silence reigned for a few, brief seconds, before Muji suddenly exclaimed, “Hey! We never checked out anything about the Immortal Beloved, right?”
Benji sat up straight on his bed and spit out the pendant. “Holy shit, we never checked out anything about the Immortal Beloved.”
After a quick Google search, two train tickets, a couple of sandwiches, and a dash through the rain, they arrived at the Frankfurt Main Cemetery. There, they asked after the name they’d listed in their proposal as the possible Immortal Beloved, and the ghosts pointed them towards the back of the cemetery.
In a ghost grotto, they found a woman, calmly humming the tune from one of the Diabelli variations, though in their excitement neither Benji nor Muji could name the tune.
“Are you-“ Benji paused and took a couple of deep breaths. “Are you the Immortal Beloved?
The woman stopped humming and smiled at them.
“Ah, that is a moniker I have not heard in some time.” She arose and walked away from them, lifting her skirts elegantly in a manner which conveyed a sense of class. “Come; I think you are the ones I’ve been expecting.”
The two followed after her eagerly and looked confused when they stopped at a mail office in town. There, she reached into a P.O. box, pulled out a silver envelope, and gave it to Benji.
“This is yours.” She murmured. “Please do come to visit; it’s rare that I receive visitors.”
With this, she disappeared.
The two stared at the envelope for a couple of seconds before Benji eagerly opened it, accidentally ripping the envelope in half. He then read it, brow furrowing in confusion.
“What’s it say?” Asked Muji, eagerly, from over his shoulder.
“It says… it’s just numbers? I don’t get it.” Benji gave him the paper, trying to puzzle out what it meant.
Muji frowned, then plugged the numbers into Google.
“It’s a location!” He burst out, excitedly shoving the phone in Benji’s face.
The two of them hurriedly called a taxi, listing the location Muji’s phone had given them. They were dropped off in front of the building, and saw someone standing at the entrance. They showed the person (a Scholar!) their letter, and with a large smile, they were taken inside, their guide walking confidently as Benji and Muji trailed behind them. The interior of the building was long and winding, which left the two feeling as though they’d been deceived by the outward appearance of the building. The building had looked small and unassuming, and this place was built like a maze. They were sure they’d be lost if they tried to head back without a guide.
Near the end of the path they heard the sound of a piano playing, and warm light spilled into the hallway. They eagerly rushed ahead, much to the amusement of the Scholar.
There, facing the wall, conducting half a beat behind the sound coming from the recorder behind him, stood Beethoven.
Benji gasped, and clutched Muji’s shoulder. He pointed ecstatically at the figure in the room. “It’s Beethoven!!!” He stage-whispered.
Muji smiled widely as he nodded back. “Yeah!!”
The two of them turned around when a voice behind them cleared. The Scholar gave them each a thick letter with the recognized seal of the Music Master Scholars on the back, and the two of them stared at it, unsure of what to do.
“Well?” The Scholar prompted, rocking back and forth on their heels. “Aren’t you going to open it?”
Benji ripped into his envelope first, completely abandoning the flap as he tore the side off. His hands shook as he pulled out a letter on creamy white stationary. He skimmed the words and began crying, clutching the letter and envelope to his chest.
Muji was slightly more careful, removing the letter from the envelope via the flap and pulling out the other contents of the envelope. A laminated membership card, a list of locations of other ghosts, and an alphabetized list of other Scholars with contact info and a small bio were also in the envelope. He pulled out each one, looked at it, and put it back in the envelope. He then stopped and held the envelope in his hands, staring at it.
After about ten minutes, the guide worriedly asked Muji, “Is Benji alright? He’s been crying for a while.”
Muji nodded absentmindedly. “Yeah, he cried for like two hours after I finished streaming Crisis Core for him.” At the guide’s look of confusion, he added, “Video game.”
The guide made a small noise of understanding and nodded.
When Benji’s sobs finally faded into sniffles, the three of them began the trek out of the building.
“Sorry this route is so long.” The Scholar apologized. “Oh! Also! I forgot to introduce myself.” They paused and turned, offering their hand. “I’m Soraya Cham! I was the last person to find Beethoven’s ghost. When I heard about you guys, I got excited, really. I was rooting for you!”
The two of them shook her hand and nodded, unsure what else to say.
Soraya continued, then hailed a taxi when they reached the road. They waved goodbye to Benji and Muji as the two of them got in the backseat.
“We did it!” Benji shouted once they were back at their hotel.

THIS IS A LONG POST NOT RELATED TO THE SIMS, SORRY BUT I JUST NEED AN OUTLET. THIS POST IS ABOUT JAPAN.
1st picture is of Norihisa Tamura, Japan’s Minister of Health, Labor & Welfare on tv with no mask and what’s supposed to be a face shield. That man went on national TV looking that ridiculous.
The other photo is in Kabukicho, Tokyo after 8PM...when all the bars/restaurants are supposed to close but 40% of them are ignoring the request (yes, the government keeps asking them to close because the law limits them) mainly because they can’t afford to close.
More about that here:
https://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20210817/p2a/00m/0na/023000c
And the last picture is rush hour in Tokyo, ALL of those people are getting on/off the train and all during Tokyo’s 4th (yes FOUR) State of Emergency. The pictures highlight the incompetence of Japan’s leaders & the slow/ineffective measures they’ve taken to fight the spread of the virus. Allowing The Olympics to go forward was pretty much the point of no return *the 2 photos of the crowds were taken last month, Aug 2021*
I’m talking about Japan because my bf is leaving soon (Saturday) to visit Japan.
Don’t mistake this post for any sort of travel advice: don’t try to book a trip there if you have no business going there, besides...you’ll be banned from entering the country. Even folks who have business in Japan (foreign students/employees who already have their visas) are still banned from entering the country.
He’s going back because he has a relative in the hospital whose condition was worsening (it seems their condition has slightly improved) and it’s unrelated to COVID-19. He wouldn’t jump on a plane to Japan, during a pandemic, if he had any other choice. He’s fully vaccinated and always wears a mask (double mask) when out in public.
I know a lot of weebs on here who probably think Japan is “doing well” because the numbers are much lower than the US (always the constant comparison to the US but never mind the fact that the US pop is 360M compared to Japan’s 126M) but the reality is: Japan still, to this day, doesn’t have mass testing sites meaning lower number of people are being tested daily. No lockdowns, extremely slow vaccine rollout, and they just threw out over a million doses of Moderna due to contamination.
The hospitals cannot handle the number of infections and many people have been turned away from the hospital which has lead to deadly consequences for some, like the pregnant woman who was forced to give birth at home which resulted in her newborn baby dying. A woman in her 70′s who had diabetes was denied a hospital room, she too died as a result. Now I’m just reading about the actress, Haruka Ayase, who has pneumonia due to COVID-19 yet the hospital made room for her. I’m not saying she deserved to die but Japan is clearly picking & choosing who is more important.
I think the only upside to this is the fact that my bf will have to quarantine at his parents home for 2 weeks in Osaka (not Tokyo, which is good since the biggest outbreak is of course in the largest city, Tokyo) so (hopefully) he won’t be exposed to the virus if he stays at home. Plus he has to quarantine, the government requires anyone returning to Japan to install an app that allows them to call you at home (video-calls) to verify that you are your quarantine location. I read one woman’s account, she’s a permanent resident, about how they video-called her twice in the same day: within 30 minutes actually. They most likely won’t do that to my bf because he isn’t a “scary foreigner” since quite a few Japanese folks (including racist, ultra right-wing politicians) are still lying & blaming foreigners for all the cases in Japan.
Oh and a FYI: from the folks I follow on Twitter (foreigners living in Japan), they’ve stated that lots of folks in Japan, especially Tokyo, are ignoring the State of Emergency. They continue to go out to bars, restaurants which increases the spread and the risk of infecting their loved ones at home/coworkers/classmates/etc.
It’s irritating knowing all this and reading posts from people who have no ties to Japan, don’t know anyone from Japan and can’t even be bothered to read posts from people who actually live there claiming “they defeated the virus” or still denying that it’s actually a hell of a lot worse than they’re letting on.
We can compare cities, we can compare Tokyo to NYC and see how the response to the virus has been. NYC had a lockdown, rent relief for its residents ($2.7B available but the payout has been disastrous, the new Governor is trying to speed it up), workers & students were allowed to work/attend classes from home meaning no crowded mass transit. We had mask mandates & even now NYC requires proof of vaccination to go to most places like restaurants, gyms, etc.
Tokyo is not allowing workers/students to work/attend class from home so their mass transit (a city of 13 MILLION, 37 MILLION in the metro area, quite a few more than here in NYC) is PACKED. There was no real lockdown because the government is limited in its power, they’re just now *over a year later* trying to vote to change that. I haven’t heard anything about any rent relief just the ¥100000 paid out once, that’s about $930 USD, to adults and a one-time stimulus payment to businesses that was less than $20K USD. There’s no mass testing site meaning testing throughout the country is still limited.
Tokyo set up a “lottery” the other day in Shibuya which required people to go the location to try and earn a spot for a vaccine. They could’ve had this lottery online but Japan is so behind the times they clearly didn’t think this was a problem...to have a large number of people moving around during a pandemic. Of course it was a mess and the governor of Tokyo (Koike) had the nerve to try to blame the staff for the large crowds.
My bf has to get a PCR test document (in Japanese) & it has to be SIGNED by someone at the clinic. Fortunately he’s able to get it in one day (day before his flight) but it’s just the fact that Japan is the only country in the world pulling this nonsense. If we didn’t find out about the handwritten/signed document he would’ve flew all the way there and been denied entry into the country.
He’ll be there for 3 weeks, the other positive side of this trip (other than being able to see his family/relative in the hospital & not having to be in Tokyo) is that he is, of course, picking up some stuff for me. But only if it’s safe to do so though, I don’t want him going to jam-packed stores, since he has a week to look around it should be less crowded at the stores during business hours when most people are at work/school.
My list:
Famima socks & imabari towel *I think it’s actually a handkerchief ( ファミリーマート (Family Mart) convenience store has a clothing line)
Some donuts from Mister Donut (I’m not joking, as long as there’s no cream they’ll last outside of the fridge for 2-3 days before getting stale)
Muji cotton headbands (they no longer sell them at the NYC locations)
Baton d’or (fancier alternative to Pocky, they cost almost $10 a box)
Amanatto (look up natto, it’s a candied version of that)
Some little knicknacks from Osaka like fridge magnets, he thinks a hoodie/sweater with Osaka on it might be too cheesy/touristy
Maybe Melano CC, it’s cheaper than ordering online ($11 vs $20+)
Probably some other food/snacks
Etc. - still thinking if I need/want anything else
He’s also giving me a video tour of Osaka (大阪) so I can see places like his parents town Izumi ( 和泉市) & places he used to hang out in like Amemura ( アメリカ村  - full name is Amerikamura Village) so I’m just trying to get into the positive side of this and enjoy seeing Osaka beyond G.Map.
So to wrap this up, it’s already too long but I just wanted folks to know that things aren’t so peachy in Nippon, and it won’t be for a while. Hopefully, with more people getting sick of Suga’s (Prime Minister) inaction over the pandemic they’ll be more motivated to vote out the useless, racist LDP (Liberal Democratic Party: don’t be fooled by the Democratic part, they’re quite right wing and conservative) party. He’s already suffered several embarrassing setbacks from recent elections such as an LDP candidate losing the Yokohama mayoral race to an opponent, very embarrassing since Yokohama is Suga’s hometown.
So I’m hoping for a better future for Japan (for everyone, but I’m actually hoping for the imperialist, oligarchy of the US to collapse) and for safe travels for my bf and anyone else who has to travel during this pandemic.

Try krave beauty “the beet shield” for sunscreen and make sure you are removing it properly at the end of the day. Sunscreen should be used as the last step of ur morning routine, on your face and neck, and the back of your hands. That might be what’s breaking you out. At night Regardless of your skin type, use an oil or balm based cleanser to wash your face first (DHC cleansing oil, it’s yellow btw) then wash with a water or gel based cleanser (cerave foaming cleanser or cerave SA Renewing face cleanser, I picked those cuz U describe oil acne prone skin). Make sure to always moisturize no matter ur skin type, for acne prone I recommend the cerave daily moisturizing lotion which u can use on face and body. Paulas choice BHA toner is good for one to two times a week only on non sensitive spots of your face and don’t combine with anything other than moisturizer, then over time maybe 3 times a week depending on ur skin type and how ur feeling. Only do this step at night and always moisturize well after. For morning as a first step, just cleanse with the water/gel based cleanser I recommended. Don’t double cleanse in the mornings, only do it at night. It’s unsolicited advice but I used to have the same problem as u so hope it helps. A niacinamide serum is also a great option to add for the daytime before moisturizer and sunscreen (Naturium niacinamide serum) Biossance also has a great sunscreen
AHHH THANK U THANK U, I’m immaculate with my skincare and in all 22 yrs of my life I’ve slept with my makeup on twice. I’ve woken up after ptfo-ing from drinking/etc and ran to the bathroom to find out that I’ve double cleansed, moisturized, and masked the night before in a right state LMAOOOO
I don’t wanna spam so threw in a read more but my skincare routine rn for combo dry is—
✯banila clean it balm (I’ve tried the DHC as well but prefer banila co!) and a milk foam cleanser that I’ve used since god knows when, it’s the one part of my skincare that never lets me down. not sure if it’s okay but I doublecleanse at night whether or not I’m eearing makeup because I tried only using a cleanser for a week and my skin visibly dulled and rhe texture got rougher. in the mornings I just use water to wash! it’s too much to use a cleanser during the winter so water only hehe
✯muji light toning water which has made a ridiculous difference tbh, I live for it.
✯laneige water bank essence or innisfree soybean essence, if my skin’s behaving ill throw in a vitamin C serum but oooonly a few times a week at night IF my skin’s not a minefield
✯laneige water sleeping mask at night/innisfree jeju orchid cream during the day
✯recently I’ve been using this sheet mask every night in place of the essences because it’s a lot more nourishing. I’ll wake up and see a visible difference + it feels incred
the one time my skin cleared up was when I was on the pill and it was actually insane, then I went back to china for like 6 months last yr and I dont think my skin had ever been that bad since I was like 17 and it lit hasnt recovered since sigh
everyone says it’s hormonal issues but I refuse to go on the hellpill again HAHAH I tried controlling my diet to mostly vegs + light meats + no dairy and all that did was make me irrationally hungry fffFFF I went 6 months without coffee or boba or any sweets and it gave me nO RESULT smh F in the chat truly
also when I was 15/16 I fucked my skin up with some prescribed topical cream by my doctor and i had such a bad allergy reaction I went to the A&E (just bc my face was so puffy HAHA I COULDNT OPEN MY EYES) and for a yr after that anything beside CeraVe/Cetaphil would damage my skin so that singlehandedly changed my skin from combo-oily to hypersensitive combo-dry rip
BUT THANK U SO MUCH HOLY FUCK THIS IS SO INDEPTH AND DETAILED I APPRECIATE U TAKING THE TIME OUT TO SEND THIS TO ME AHHHH FUCK THANK U THANK U
HI EDIT: IDK IF MY TUMBLRS ACTING UP OR IF IT RLY FUCKED UP MY REPLY BUT HERES THE FULL REPLY
