Percy Jackson had never understood the phrase “beating yourself up”. When he was a child, he thought it meant to literally beat yourself up. 

Like repeatedly punching yourself in the face.

But now he understood.

Ever since Bianca Di Angelo’s death, he’d hated himself for not trying harder to save her to the point of self destruction.

Nico Di Angelo had always been different since his sister's death. More solidarity, more cold, more hardened.

So when Nico had told Percy just this past summer that he’d had feelings for the son of Poseidon, he’d been utterly shocked.

Nico didn’t talk about his feelings.

Ever.

But Percy was enjoying it, really. Nico was being a bit more open now. They were more comfortable with each other.

Percy, if he could be honest, was feeling more comfortable with Nico than anyone else on the planet right now.

After Annabeth had left him to join the hunters of Artemis, ending on a terrible note, he’d felt lonely.

And Nico had seen that. He’d seen Percy’s loneliness, sensed his sadness.

Somehow, Nico had cheered him up a great deal. And now Percy had a new best friend.

He had to remind himself from time to time not to get into Nico’s business, because while Nico was improving with being more talkative, he would get rather sensitive at times.

Like today.

It was late November, the chilly air making Percy’s nose kind of sniffly and cold. He made his way to cabin 13, the Hades cabin.

Nico’s cabin.

Usually at this time ( Percy checked his watch, 12:34 ) Nico would be either drawing or training.

Percy decided to check his cabin first, then check the training area if the son of Hades wasn’t there.

He rapped on the door.

“What”? Nico demanded, his voice muffled behind the door. 

“Hey, Neeks. It’s Percy, just coming to bring you to lunch”.

There was a loud sigh, the click of a lock unlocking, and the door swung open.

Nico was looking considerably healthier then when he was on the Argo ll. His hair is less greasy and more fluffy. Less prominent eye bags. Less pale skin. A healthy shine in his eyes. His body is more muscular.

“Fine. But you really have to stop eating at my table” Nico said, huffing a strand of his dark hair out of his eyes.

Percy pouted. “Why”? He asked as he and Nico started towards the dining pavilion. “I told Chiron it was for very important purposes. He’ll understand”.

Nico rolled his eyes. “Chiron’s not dumb, Percy. He’s not going to believe in said “important purposes” for long”, Nico said, making air quotes with his fingers.

Percy pouted again but didn’t argue.

As they reached the pavilion, Nico beelined towards his table, shooing Percy away to his own.

Percy followed anyway with a cocky smirk.

Nico glared daggers back, but quickly looked away.

Chiron sat with Mr.D, chatting about something and laughing periodically.

Percy was sure he wouldn’t notice if he sat at Nico’s table again.

Nico already had his meal laid out in front of him, a McDonalds cheeseburger with broccoli at the side, root beer shimmering in his goblet.

Nico gave him a death stare. 

“What’d I say, Jackson”? He said coolly.

“You said to not sit at your spot with you. But do I seem like a rule follower to you”? He replied with a shrug, sitting down across from the son of Hades.

“You seem like a teacher's pet to me. So yes”, Nico said, popping a piece of broccoli into his mouth, chewing thoroughly before swallowing with a grimace.

“Hey, no fair,” Percy said with a scowl of his own. He summoned a ham and cheese sandwich to his plate, along with a salad, and of course, a goblet full of blue coke.

They sat in silence while eating. Not the kind of awkward silence where you feel like you have to say something or the world will implode.

A kind of comfortable silence.

“Hey, Nico! Your wounds are healing well”?

Percy looked up to see Will Solace, son of Apollo. Head cabin counselor and head medic.

Nico shifted awkwardly in his seat. “Yeah, I guess”, he mumbled, chewing his lip.

Will beamed. “Great. I was worried about that”. 

Will nodded at Percy with a smile, then turned on his heels and left.

Percy raised an eyebrow at Nico questioningly.

“What wounds? Are you ok”? Percy asked, tilting his head to the side.

Nico scoffed. 

“Of course I’m ok. Will healed them. They don’t hurt anymore, and they’ve stopped itching”, he said, finishing his cheeseburger.

“That’s good… but why’d you act so weird? Did Will do something”? Percy prodded, trying to look Nico in the eyes, but Nico held his head low.

Until it snapped upwards.

“No, nothing happened. Why do you care anyway”? He hissed, narrowing his eyes.

Percy held his hands up in surrender. 

“I’m just making sure you’re ok, Neeks. Sorry”.

Nico’s expression softened, eyes widening.

“Sorry, Percy, I… I don’t know where that came from”, he whispered, twisting his skull ring, “I… I gotta go. Catcha later”.

He pushed himself away from the table, slowly walking away, progressively moving faster until he was sprinting away.

Hey anon! Thanks for the ask :)

I'm actually not that big of a perico fan. It's not that it's bad, but to me, it seems like it just cuts down on the development of their relationship. I like the idea that you can get over your crush and fall in love with someone else, no lingering feelings, and this ship kinda throws it out the window. Not to mention, I can't really see it, considering Percy's POV always came off as the exasperated older brother to me. Even though they're not technically related (with the whole no DNA thing), it still feels like borderline incest to me.

Of course, I have nothing completely against it, just not my cup of tea! No judgement to whoever ships this.

Hi! The thing in Nico’s body smiles, and says, “Yeah.”

So simple, just one simple word, but it makes Percy’s whole face light up, until he’s beaming from ear to ear the way he sometimes does at Annabeth, or his mother, or Grover, or Tyson, or anyone who’s not Nico, and Nico thinks to himself bitterly that maybe he should just give up the struggle and let himself fade forever, because this thing inside him is apparently so much better at making the people Nico loves happy than Nico himself ever was.

OR, Nico is possessed and the thing in his body tries to jump Percy’s bones.

Quise hacer este blog para compartir un poco de mis pensamientos y de mi perspectiva del mundo desde una persona con adicciones y con una carente salud mental básicamente por que no se si este año ya me voy a morir.
