The field of asters and cecilias were not a common sight together but they fit perfectly, complimenting each other in a uniquely simple way. Accompanied by the gentle blowing wind and the sweet, sweet smell of flowers paired with delicious desserts. A small but elegant stone cottage sat in the middle of said flower field, giving the most beautiful sights that someone could enjoy.

In the antique window of the cottage, sat the master of Mondstadt’s wine industry himself, reading a newspaper and drinking some homemade dandelion tea. Not far from the redhead sat his wife, sewing up one of his damaged coats that had torn from one of his battles as the Dark Knight Hero.

Nevertheless, the couple quietly enjoyed each other’s company as they had their respective cups of tea beside them. A vase of cecilias and windwheel asters were placed on the table between which Diluc and lover sat.

Now you may be wondering, ‘how did someone as serious and grumpy as Diluc manage to get married? Especially to someone as sweet and gorgeous as his wife?’ Well, it’s a simple question really. They met in this very field. Where their love grew like the flowers they planted together.

6 years before: the sun gently shined down on Diluc’s fair skin, the sky sparsely filled with fluffy white clouds and the sound of a gentle breeze blowing through the man’s red hair. Diluc had decided to take the day to go on a walk around Mondstadt, specifically in nearby open fields that sat close to Dorman Port. Diluc had been in the area to attend some previous business from the day before. His work at the winery and as the Dark Knight Hero was causing him a lot of stress and he really needed a break.

When Diluc arrived, he was astonished by how pristine and verdant the land was. Cecilia flowers scattered around the vibrant forest green fields while a feminine figure sat in the middle, drawing away in a sketchbook as she sat on a white and red polka dot blanket.

The closer he got, the more details he could see of her. Her skin glowed under the sun's gaze. Her simple white dress was sewn with patterns of beautiful cecilia flowers, her hair styled to compliment her dress perfectly while a simple flower crown made of cecilia's had laid on her head. The temperature was perfectly warm, the cool breeze keeping the temperature comfortable to work and travel in.

Soon he stood behind her, not daring to touch the blanket where she sat or utter a single word to her, feeling increasingly more nervous the longer he was near her. He could hear an amused giggle escaping her soft lips as she continued to sketch what seemed to be a traditional Mondstadt dress concept design, notes beside her sketch book detailing the important information that needed to be included.

“I know you're there, you don’t have to stay so silent. It’s just the two of us here, ya know.”

She teased with an amused tone. Diluc did not speak, how could he when in the presence of someone with such beauty and kindness radiating from their soul. She couldn’t help but to continue to giggle at his current silence and shy reaction.

“Why don’t you come and sit down with me, sir. I’ve got plenty of room for another person to sit. Besides, I could use the extra company.”

He remained silent, but regardless, he sat down beside the lady. Keeping his distance and holding his tongue to avoid any conflict or troublesome interactions. The two introverts did not speak much to each other while they sat together. Diluc could only watch how the blowing wind affected the nature around them or glancing over occasionally at the woman’s work silently.

The quiet atmosphere around them was peaceful and comfortable. This one time unique chance meet ended up turning into a once a month meet up where they would quietly sit together in the same field. Either working on their respective tasks or cloud gazing with each other quietly under the gentle shining sun. The two were only 19 at the time this first started, but soon their love for each other would grow.

After a few meetups, Diluc would come more frequently as they’re friendship progressed. The month apart would turn into every two weeks then that would turn into a once week meetup. Everytime, Diluc would be greeted with a gentle smile and excited expression from the woman he had learned to grow to love. He learned that her name was (name) and that she was a seamstress from Dorman Port. She inherited this field from her grandparents, so she would come here every day to enjoy the verdant surroundings while also taking care of the land in return.

The more they saw each other, the closer they felt on both a physical and emotional level. She understood him in ways that he didn’t know was possible. More than his father or his brother or even himself. The two of them could feel the attraction between them blossoming into something deeper.

Eventually, Diluc asked (name) on a date which was excitedly accepted by her. They ended up having a picnic in the field, chatting and getting to know the other person better. They laughed, they smiled and ended the date with cloud gazing, holding each other’s hand and giggling like young children again, despite being 20 years old now.

The couple had gone on many more dates over a stretch of a year. Whether it was being on walks around the forest near the cecilia field, planting some windwheel aster seeds and helping them grow nice and strong, or heading into the main city or the Port to do a bit of shopping together.

Anyone that had a functioning brain could tell how strong the love they had for each other was. They were each other’s soulmates and the other half of themselves. They loved each other so much that Diluc made sure to propose to his lover with the prettiest ring he could find. As soon as she saw the ring, she immediately started to bawl her eyes out and cried out her joyful acceptance.

They ended up married the next year and started working on their small but cozy stone cottage in their flower field. The couple’s hope was to use the area as a venue for their small wedding and later use it as a family cottage home.

4 years after getting married, they were now expecting their first child in about seven months time. Diluc chuckled at the memories of their younger days together. Soon getting up to give his wife and mother of his children, a gentle kiss on the lips and on her growing belly too before leaving the house to grab more wood for their fireplace.

This field of cecilia and asters is where their love grew and continues to grow; where they first met, where they shared their first kiss, where they got engaged, where they got married and now where they will be starting their family together.

hey tumblr, i wrote an essay for class about Simon Snow because im gay and weird. read it out to my friends and they grabbed me by my shoudlers and shook me and said "POST THAT TO TUMBLR" so here it is :3

In Rainbow Rowell's “Any Way the Wind Blows” the series protagonist Simon Snow often reflects on how he finds it hard to fit in to a world of mages after losing his magic. This correlates to the drastic changes he makes to his life to try and find a place to fit in.

Taking place after Simon’s trip to the U.S.A, Simon is forced to return to his previous life of sitting around in his apartment while his best friend Penelope and boyfriend Baz are off to college to work on their degrees. Simon’s first drastic change is moving out, he stops responding to texts from Baz and leaves without explaining to anyone but Penelope. He also leaves a note for Baz. Penelope comments to Baz on how Simon would “like space” and how he “doesn't want to talk” to either of them. This correlates to Simon’s desire to leave the world of mages and how brash and erratic he has become. Penelope also comments on how she thinks he’s become “lost”, further proving how desperate Simon is to escape his previous life. This in turn also proves Simon no longer feels as if he “fits in” around Penelope and Baz in his own apartment.

Additionally, Simon also schedules an appointment with a specialist to have his wings and tail removed. The same he used to save the entire magical world. In Agatha’s section of the story, her comments often allude to Simon being hesitant, and the broken glass and scattered surgery materials on the floor when she first walk in. Along with the vet student Niamh commenting on how they’ll “try again” allude to the fact Simon has not completely thought this action through in his desperation to flee his old life. This, again, proves that Simon doesn't feel comfortable in his regular day-to-day life, needing to shed his wings and tail to live among the normal public.

Simon’s last action, and the most drastic and brash he makes is breaking up with his boyfriend Baz. After Baz tracks down Simon using his magic, Simon blows up at him, giving us the clearest evidence that he no longer feels like he belongs. He starts by saying without his magic he’s just “an ordinary bloke.” no longer the “chosen one”. They continue to fight Baz asking if its because of the magic and eventually Simon comments on how he was “never going to make ‘this’ work” after saying that he cant be with Baz. Simon never denies the fact its because Baz is a mage but through his actions and behavior, its not unreasonable to make an inference that this is part of the reason Simon is doing what hes done especially because of the way he responds during the argument. This is one of the biggest clearest pieces of evidence that Simon no longer feels as if he fits in, wanting to break all ties to the world of mages to life a life as a “normal bloke”.

Although he does go back on almost every decision he made further into the book this still doesn't take away from the fact Simon is desperate to find a place he fits in. Especially with all the erratic choices he makes.

Weekly Update

8/20/2023

Announcements

- A Bit Dodgy is almost finished -

The chapter coming out this week is the second to last chapter for the series. It’s such a bitter sweet thing, ending a series, especially one that I’ve built such a community around. I’ve written 5 novel-length fics over the course of the last year, and A Bit Dodgy will be number 6. On 09/04/2023 it will be my one-year anniversary of writing fanfiction since coming back after not writing for about a decade and l can’t believe it. Holy CRAP. I’ll take the time to reminisce about my numbers and statistics on my one-year mark, don’t you worry lol. There will definitely be a celebration.

That being said, ending a series never gets easier. Even though I write for these characters all the time, Steven, Marc and Jake in this case, I’m still closing the book on this version of them. It’s sad, but I’m also very ready to move on to other stories and other versions of these characters. I also think I’ll write some headcanons and one-shots as I feel the desire to just to take the edge off when I’m missing them. I’ll talk more about this when I finish A Bit Dodgy. <3

I’m not sure if I’ll ever be in a position to take requests again or not. My WIP list is a mile long, and right now (summer) is a VERY busy time for both of my jobs. I’m lucky if I get one day off a week. All this to say, it’s not feasible for me to continue taking requests when I can’t even handle the fics I have currently in the works.

I’m not saying I’ll never do requests again, it’s just not realistic right now. There will still be follower celebrations and birthday events and things like that in which I may take limited requests, but as far as the regular ones go, I gotta stop taking them for now. - THIS IS THE LAST TIME I'M MAKING THIS ANNOUNCEMENT. PLEASE READ IT.

trimax vol 9 random thoughts

sorry if you saw this post disappear and reappear in the tag multiple times, i was fighting for my life much like wolfwood using trial and error trying to get it to even show up in the tag because tumblr is a functional website and not fucky in the slightest. </3

i wrote this post extremely sleep deprived 2 days ago let's GOOOOO

also heads up for potential spoilers for tristamp since i talk about it a little. even though i spoiled 98 untagged in my last post. sorry about that

chapter 1:

someone in the book club tag (don't remember who it was, sorry) said something about sharing food being a love language for wolfwood... :') wah...

why is this thing even on the building in the first place. and for that matter how did the dog even GET up there...... whatever

hi razlo. i don't know where to say this in the post so i'll just say now i unintentionally spoiled myself on razlo's identity because i was googling when i shouldn't have been. all totally my fault LOL [anime girl bleh gif]

the boy didn't even have the decency to wash the blood off his hands. kid, please, you're not doing livio any favors here.

livio manspreading on the couch... chapel, have you considered there's another reason why livio's breathing might be "irregular" as he helps you take his former home hostage? hmmm?

^ FUNNIEST PIECE OF DIALOGUE IN THE WHOLE VOLUME

thank god for livio, this guy was doing a speedrun on being the most annoying one-off minor villain--WAIT is he kicking him with his hands in his pockets? that's SO funny. i'm liking livio more and more.

chapter 2:

"he shouldn't be that old" <- the kids would be expecting wolfwood to be, hmmm, in his early 20s, thereabouts? ww looks around a decade older than that...

he's giving... something here. it's the combo of the glasses and all-white outfit i think. the y2k fashion vibe.

who is saying this? livio? razlo? both? chapel, since he was the one just talking? also, nice visual metaphor!

this is obviously NOT the reason wolfwood spared these guys, but this is reminding me of when oda said that luffy doesn't kill his opponents because shattering their dreams is worse than death. LOL

also i am convinced nightow drew this chapter for the sole purpose of making wolfwood do cool shit on his motorcycle.

that being said, all the cool shit wolfwood does is immediately overshadowed by livio CATCHING A BOMB IN MIDAIR AND THROWING IT BACK AT THE GUY WHO SHOT IT. stampede livio could never do this, he's too skinny

chapter 3:

people have already said stuff about this page, but I Also Want To Say Stuff. the wispiness of the smoke, livio's hair blowing in the wind... it feels very much like the calm before the storm, simultaneously serene and tense. and i LOVE how wolfwood is shaded in grey, while livio is the one shaded in black. fantastic contrast and composition, i adore it.

why is this razlo's first note to livio. "!" like...?! you're letting livio know you exist, but giving literally no other information like at all? okay. razlo's a bit of an oddball, to put it mildly.

the rest of his letters are... well they're not "normal," i guess, and not any less cryptic, but they are kinda sweet in their own way.

knowing who razlo is i love the way his introduction scene is presented. livio is keeping information from ww and from the reader, so it's both literal and not. also razlo is appropriately unsettling, i wish he would stop... unhinging his jaw like that.

...also who tf told him about EoM?! this is a difference with stampede... stamp!livio joined EoM because he wanted to follow wolfwood. no razlo involved in the decision-making, as far as we know. compared to here in the manga, livio left the orphanage on his own, so there isn't really a clear timeline on when ww joined EoM vs when livio did. we don't even know if he knew ww was in EoM at all.

also upon rewatching this scene for this post i got distracted by legato's lack of ass and had to pause because i was laughing too much

the guy is literally flat as a board help

*cough* anyway. razlo is only alluded to and never named or even really shown, except for a very brief very blurry reflection, so his level of involvement in... literally everything is unknown.

speaking of characters who are weirdly absent, chapel isn't around either...? i thought maybe they combined his character with conrad, but he DOES speak in livio's memory, i even checked the credits for his seiyuu. (hiroshi naka - he voices a lot of old men but most notably garp from one piece!) i don't really know how his role in all this has changed, if at all, since conrad seems to be the one in charge of the experiments...? and i really... do not like what they did with conrad in stampede, he went from being shitty but having nuance to just being extra shitty... okay, tangent over.

oh, this fight is so WEIGHTY!! i love it!! they gave a lot of weight and physicality to the livio vs ww fight in stampede too, (and all the fights, for that matter), despite stamp!livio's loss of bulk... it's a really fun fight to watch!

chapter 4:

OHHH..... okay.... soooooo.... this means he's coming back in stampede season 2 i assume?

not to go off on another tangent but this is the second time this has happened to me... i went into stampede more or less blind (oh how things change) and so when knives died at the end of the season I HAD NO REASON TO BELIEVE HE WASN'T DEAD... but then i saw people talking like he would come back in season 2 and i was like, "how?? he DIED" and then i read the manga and i was like oh. and now with livio too. i thought he served his narrative purpose and then died. and he shot himself through the head, which is notable because that's how ww killed monev who was ALSO a subject of EoM's experiments in the tristamp universe!! so i had no reason to believe he wasn't dead!!

i dont have that much to say about this chapter because it mostly consists of the fight, but OH what a fight it is...!! i know i should be rooting for wolfwood, and i am, but livio is just so COOL in this fight. they're both cool...!!!

also, how many little glass vials(tm) does wolfwood have?! honestly, it's amazing that he still has any at all left to drink, it's a wonder they haven't all shattered already with how much he's been thrown around. especially because the one he drinks from CRACKS when it hits the ground... these vials aren't exactly bulletproof, lol.

THE HUG...?! UUUEEEEAAHGHGHHGH

MESSAGE TO ALL BITCHES ughhh ww looks so pained here. when he told vash that his blood runs cold when he points his gun at livio... he's feeling that through this whole volume. man.

something about brothers fighting each other... vash and knives, wolfwood and livio... uagh.

chapter 5:

HEY CAN WE KILL CHAPEL ALREADY??

oh, the punisher is taller than him... i was trying to get an approximation of relative character heights recently, and i saw somewhere that the punisher is 5'7, the same height as me...

also, 10 punishers, huh... wolfwood's is one, razlo has three... does chapel's count even though it has a different design...? do livio's handguns count? will we see the others? is there even a significance to the number...?

oh great, is this another wolfwood death flag?! we haven't seen him drink THAT many of them so far but still. hope chapel keels over already. i know ww's making an effort not to kill people but can he please just shoot chapel in the head. also wolfwood's pose in that panel... he's kinda serving cunt

OH, THIS SPREAD FUCKS!!!! once again the CONTRAST... THE STARK BLACK AND WHITE... SO COOL!!!

so these guys work for razlo specifically, i assume? not livio? also... just who are they? random EoM goons?? why are they so loyal to razzy???

and he has a mechanical third arm. somehow. sure okay

oh, it's tri-p as in tri-punisher. i thought it was the word "trip" and didn't question it. ...although "trip" could still work.

--also, wait, hold on, upon rereading i noticed razlo's left ear is covered up (by... something) and it's making his head shape look uncanny (more like a skull?!) and now i have to scroll back through the previous chapters to see if livio has ears. [several minutes of scrolling later] okay, he DOES have a right ear. okay. another pointless diversion for this post

chapter 6:

razlo was a real one for killing livio's shitty parents!

also another thing i'm noticing! razlo opens his mouth pretty wide, while livio doesn't open his mouth much at all... i mean okay there are a ton of differences in physicality between the two of them, but that one in particular stands out to me because last volume i complained that i couldn't tell when livio was talking because he never opens his mouth LOL

spraying wolfwood with blood and guts is a fucking wild battle tactic bro. also i'm convinced that nightow gave razlo three punishers for the cool factor first and foremost. three crosses also brings the scene of jesus's crucifixion to mind... but nahhhh it's definitely the cool factor. unless...?

ALSO CAN CHAPEL DIE ALREADYYYY PLEASE

VASH MENTIONED!!! i'm so caught up in wolfwood's story rn that i haven't even really thought about the fact that vash isn't present in this volume at all... and then it evolves into a fucking. memory montage. stop with the montage please that's another death flag

and... oh man... wolfwood getting back up to fight because he's thinking of vash... and last volume vash said wolfwood is his reason to fight... both of them staring death in the face and thinking of each other... oh my god. ohhhh my fucking god. oh my fuckign god you guys. VASHWOOD.

oh, looks like i lied when i said vash isn't in this volume, he's right here

...and that ends that volume. i said more than i thought i would... sorry for the rambles and tangents, i wrote this post running on about 3 hours of sleep lol. time for something lighter as i await next week's volume, let me continue to rewatch the 98 anime... what episode was i up to... ahh... 22, huh...

I started reading your first book on Kindle a while ago and really loved it so far. I love seeing all the art you post on Tumblr, it's what got me into the story. I admit I haven't been able to read as much lately and ended up putting it off for a while, but your recent post was as good a time as any for me to pick it up again. I've ordered a hard copy of the first book, and I really look forward to reading it all the way through! I do hope that things work out well for you with your current situation. I really admire your work and can't wait to actually start reading it. <3

Thank you! I love to hear that my art helps people be drawn into the story. A lot of scenes I write start out as drawings, since it's always been easier for me to draw things than write them.

Thank you for your kind words, and also thank you everyone for helping me by sharing my posts. The thing that is spooking me right now is one of our trees (an enormous water oak) in our front yard showing pretty stark signs of a fungal infection that we have been trying to treat for a few years. It's really expensive to have the arborist come out and treat it, but it'd be devastating if the tree died and we had to cut it down, or worse, if it fell on our house. We can't really afford the treatment right now and when the wind blows I get nervous.

✅ What's something that appears in your fics over and over and over again, even if you don't mean to?

i've written an answer to this one, but TL;DR - a lot of things. i try and write things i haven't written before, but i definitely have a brand.

🤭 Do you have a favorite tag to use when posting your works?

yes!! 'Alternative Universe - Canon Divergence' my beloved. also 'Angst with a Happy Ending' - i just caved and added it to Unintended, even though i have been trying to keep simon cheerful and they went punting in chapter 3 (that was romantic! and comedic!) i don't bother tagging 'Enemies to Lovers' because it would be 90% of all fics that i write, but that too.

the tags to Restoration Ecology are particularly choice, i think, as it's basically the fic where i put all my favourite things. ALL of them:

The Neverending Story, Chapter 12 - The Old Man of Wandering Mountain

(Curious what I'm doing here? Read this post! For the link index and a primer on The Neverending Story, read this one!)

In which I get to make references!

Long(1)-thundering avalanches descended from the heights, snow-storms raged between towering ice-coated summits, dipped into hollows and ravines, and swept howling onward over the great white expanse of the glaciers.

This weather is perfectly normal for the Mountain of Destiny, which is so dangerous that someone only succeeds in climbing it so infrequently that by the time another one does it, the previous person and their tale have been long forgotten.(2) Still, the CLE's glass litter makes its way up, carried by four of her invisible Powers under her orders to go, until at long last she tells them to stop.

The CLE makes the last part of the journey alone, and as she climbs a ladder, she reads the Old Man's messages to herself as they are carved into the rungs, in all caps.(3) The messages are warnings against bothering him, but the CLE goes ever forward until she finds him, carrying his book,(4) which is described…

…in such a way that Bastian recognizes it as the book he holds.

And the CLE leans over to observe that the sentence that described her reading the book is being written in the book. It's unclear which direction causality flows, if any. What is clear is that the CLE is forcing the hand of both the Old Man, and of Bastian as the saviour of Fantastica. She asks the Old Man to start the book over from the beginning.

Bastian, in snippets, reads the introduction of the very book in your hands, and reacts to it. At first he's dismissive, this isn't how the book started for him. And yet, as it continues, he is afraid of what the narration reveals about him in front of his eyes.

Then, in the story within a story within a story, Bastian introduces himself.

In that moment Bastian made a profound discovery. You wish for something, you've wanted it for years, and you're sure you want it, as long as you know you can't have it. But if all at once it looks as though your wish might come true, you suddenly find yourself wishing you had never wished for any such thing.

Bastian keeps reading as the Old Man keeps telling and writing the story of Bastian stealing the book, reading it, and reliving all Atreyu's tales, with Bastian watching. Eventually, it becomes too much. Bastian feels faint and calls out "Moon Child, I'm coming!", and the story breaks inside itself, and a wind blows into Bastian's attic, fluttering the pages of the book, and blowing out the candles as the clock strikes twelve.

(1) I think the main elements of the image in my book are the titular Old Man and the mountain, but this one's less distinct overall than the others for me. (2) Wow, some cultures really do not keep records of their legends, huh? This is actually a fascinating assertion to me for a fantasy world. Because, of course some places would exist where such a record wouldn't be seen as necessary, but… I dunno, the implications are interesting to think about, IMO. (3) Probably the most common mental association for this is Discworld's Death character, speaking in all-caps or with reverb in audiobooks to distinguish his super-natural nature from anyone else. However, it's used to great effect in lots of media. The Wheel of Time has at least one scene, in the first book, where someone speaks in all-caps, and I believe it's used as a device in some of Neil Gaiman's work as well, though that's more likely to be in direct tribute to Terry Pratchett and/or The Neverending Story. (4) This, of course, is why I say Destiny of the Endless might be more homage to the Old Man than to Discworld's Death.

Riko [Embrace Your Good Fortune] Part 1

(This is my first post with the new post editor. Please let me know if you notice something broken in this post, or if something about the move has broken something in older posts)

Riko: I’ve been having unbelievably good luck lately.

Aya: How so?

Riko: I’ve had days when I was late leaving the house, but then the train was delayed too so I make it on time anyway! And days when the forecast said it was gonna rain, but then it didn’t!

Mahoro: You get so excited over the tiniest things.

Miharu: Oh, speaking of good luck. The other night I was buried alive.

Riko: Uh…

Miharu: It was all just a dream, though.

Mahoro: I’d sure hope so…But what’s that got to do with luck?

Aya: I think she means how a dream like that is supposed to be a good omen.

Miharu: Mhm, that’s what they say.

Riko: Oh, that reminds me! I had a dream where I saw a hawk eating an eggplant on Mt. Fuji.

Miharu: That’s amazing, Riko! That’s all 3 of the most auspicious things to see in a dream!

Aya: Hawks are carnivores, though…

Mahoro: Maybe you should buy a lottery ticket.

Riko: You know, that’s what everyone thinks about, but isn’t that kind of a waste of good luck?

Mahoro: How so?

Riko: I mean, I’d just rather use that fortune on something that really mattered, you know…

Riko: Mmmm, the weather is so nice today! Even just being able to go for a stroll on a day like this is good luck in my books\~

A gust of wind blows

Riko: Ah! My hat!

Riko: Aaaa! My hat, my hat! Please, someone help catch my hat!

Woman in Suit: It’s this one, right?

Riko: Oh, thank you very much! I owe you big time. This is my favourite hat.

Woman in Suit: Hm…Are you free right now, by any chance?

Riko: Huh? I guess I am. W-wait, where are you taking me?

Woman in Suit: It’ll only be a moment…please, right this way.

Riko: What is this place? It looks like a lesson studio…

Woman in Suit: Please excuse me, I have a last-minute entrant for the audition here.

Riko: Wait, an audition?

Woman in Suit: Allow me to introduce you. This is Akiko Kuroyama, the film director. Perhaps you’ve heard of her?

Riko: (Whaaaat?! Director Kuroyama?! She’s one of the biggest names in Japanese film!)

Director Kuroyama: Can I have your name?

Riko: R-Riko Hinakura.

Director Kuroyama: Do you have any film experience?

Riko: Can’t say I do!

Riko: (Ah, um, what do I do?! Shouldn’t I let the agency know first?)

Director Kuroyama: Let’s see…can you try crying, please?

Riko: Huh? …Wait, like right now?

Director Kuroyama: …

Woman in Suit: Yes, right now.

Riko: But…

Woman in Suit: You are a perfect match for this character, I’m sure of it. So please, give it a shot.

Riko: (...No, I shouldn’t. I’ll get in trouble with Masaki-san if I go taking auditions on my own like this.)

Riko: Um…I don’t particularly feel like it, so I’m not sure that I really could.

Director Kuroyama: …

Riko: Sorry for taking your time! I’ll get going n-

Director Kuroyama: You pass.

Riko: What?!

Woman in Suit: Congratulations. We’ll see you at the final round.

Woman in Suit: Here are the files. Please come back here after 1 week!

Riko: …So yeah, that’s what happened…

Riko: I’m really sorry! I didn’t mean to take an audition on my own like that, let alone get to the final round.

Masaki: What luck!

Riko: Heh?

Masaki: It is very difficult to even get an audition for one of Director Kuroyama’s films.

Riko: But I’m trying to become a voice actress…

Masaki: These days, seiyuu have to take whatever work they can get, even if it’s not a voice acting role. By all means, please give the final round everything you’ve got.

Riko: Are you sure?

Masaki: We’ll give you as much support as we can. Manager.

Manager: Yes?

Masaki: Clear Riko’s schedule through all of next week.

Manager: Understood.

Masaki: Kirika.

Kirika: One step ahead of you. I’ll develop a special training plan for Hinakura-san.

Masaki: For the next seven days, Riko’s audition is top priority for all of us. Coordinate, keep each other updated, pull out all the stops!

Riko: (Whoa, this is turning into a pretty big deal…)

A Tail of Shadows

Another old Johnlock drabble, also set during the 2nd GR movie.

Fic: "A Tail of Shadows" [FFN] [AO3]

Pairings/Characters: onesided?Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, James Moriarty

Words: ~460

Additional info: angst, romance, 3rd person POV

Summary: Sherlock knew what he was doing before Moriarty voiced Sherlock's musings.

It was annoying, watching John walk with Mary from afar. Sherlock had been only too happy to depart from there. And of course Moriarty's henchman just happened to be by the car with the message that Sherlock and the professor meet. That was fine; Sherlock had been planning on that.

Arriving at the school and claiming an "impromptu" audience with Moriarty had been bound to happen. There was simply no way Moriarty could have denied playing with his food before taking a bite…meeting Sherlock before truly setting the game in motion. But if the events from the previous night showed any taste of what was to come, then Sherlock had to try asking for one thing, for but one handicap.

"Keep the doctor and his wife out of the game?" Moriarty repeated Sherlock's words incredulously.

It was a chance, a hope—but Sherlock never did well with hope. Logic was his friend, not luck.

And luck surely was not his friend as Moriarty finally replied with a "I think not."

Sherlock…saw red. So, Moriarty had him figured out. Indeed, Watson was Holmes' weak point, but Sherlock felt compelled to make sure Moriarty never played that card. So what could the sleuth do? Surely the professor wouldn't expect a surprise attack here and now, would he? Sherlock's mind whirred and whizzed.

Moriarty was sitting down. At least a one second delay would slow him from getting up behind the desk in his academic robes. Seventeen small items were within reach to throw at Sherlock, but Sherlock had a few projectiles close by, as well. If Moriarty threw first, Sherlock could duck, throw one of the heavier books, possibly connect with either his shoulder or head—the head would be preferable, as the stars in his eyes would have him dazed and provide Sherlock with a second attempt at crashing something into his cranium in order to distort his memory. If Sherlock threw first, Moriarty might duck and subsequently throw one of two too-sharp letter openers at his adversary, a blow which Sherlock would have a hard time dodging in the partially cluttered room. Injured, Sherlock's escape would seem highly improbable. This was, of course, all highly conjectural. Either of them had to have a good arm, see.

Instead, the sleuth and the professor ended their discussion and Sherlock left without physical harm. But the damage to his psyche had been done. If Moriarty should harm one hair on John's head, then Sherlock would throw all caution to the wind. As long as John was safe, so was Moriarty—for now.

The only question was why did Sherlock bother to care so much?

Sherlock snickered to himself. "Obviously I'd be nothing without Watson in my arms—adventures," he thought aloud, catching himself.

Yes. Quite. Indeed.

XD I just wanted to write this for two reasons: I got the feeling that Sherlock would've loved to incapacitate Moriarty in that scene where they met in the school and I wanted Sherlock to try to "reason" why his doctor had to be safe. B) Emphasis on "his doctor"! :3

2023 note: Same as with "A Wisp of Shadows," returning to this 2012 fic meant v little cleaning up in prepping it to be cross-posted to AO3 and to tumblr. I actually, sad to say, forgot this had a fun bit where I wrote Sherlock analyzing a possible mode of attack, *lol* (ngl, one of my fav things in Ritchie's movies). Srsly, tho, RDJ and Law have some of the best chemistry as the detective and doctor…truly one of my favorite pairs to play the pair! :')

Okay, I’m a big re-reader, so these include, but are probably not limited to: The Ordinary Princess, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making, The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There, The Girl Who Soared Over Fairyland and Cut the Moon in Two, Carry On, Wayward Son, Any Way the Wind Blows (yes, it came out six months ago and I’ve already read it twice), The Blue Sword, The Hero and the Crown, Howl’s Moving Castle, The Queen’s Thief series, The Moorchild, Ozma of Oz, and Spinning Silver.

I don’t think so? I don’t keep good track. The vast majority of the rereads listed about I only remember because I read them all in one week of vacation, and I remember the struggle to stuff them all into my bag. Emily B. Martin might have been new this year, or it might have been at the tail end of last year. I’m not quite sure. But she’s awesome!
