The product placement vending machine was so well done because it was both product placement and character work, showing how Mhok pushes Day to try and risk failure and learn from his choices but also involves Honey Lemon Green Tea Oishii that you can Totally Buy is just so great.

Every Kdrama is sponsored by The Ocean
Tumblr media
(I'm kind of joking but actually not because they are hoping that people come and visit and generate tourist money so all these oceans shots in every drama are basically the same as product placement but, who cares because the ocean is really pretty and I'd rather see the ocean than that stupid coffee candy AGAIN. Make all the products as pretty as the ocean!)

The Worst Trope Ever Showdown: Round 1, Side B
Offscreen Breakup
Characters in a relationship break up offscreen.
Propaganda:
Why build up a relationship only for it to end offscreen? I know things can happen to actors between seasons and even episodes, but the one offscreen breakup I'm thinking about right now happened in a book series. At the end of book 1 character A and B weren't in a relationship yet but it was obvious they would be. Then book 2 came along and it turned out they not only had a relationship between the two books they also broke up and in book 2 we the readers found ourselves in the aftermath of their relationship and it wasn't pretty. WHY.
Product Placement
Real-life products are featured in a work for money.

lola i am DYING to know about #5!
hi rachel, thanks for the ask!
this is the sequel to that rogue tiktok fic i once wrote - target audience. in the sequel, tk gets sucked in by the viral tiktok products and carlos starts to get somewhat concerned. it's a 5+1 and i wrote like...4 parts before being struck with atrocious writer's block, but hopefully i finish it!
snippet for you:
“Fine,” TK relents. “I bought you something for work.” Carlos pauses. “You know I can’t use costume handcuffs when-" TK practically chokes. “Mind out of the gutter please, Carlos,” he says. “I got you a desk vacuum.” There’s a long pause, in which Carlos tries to imagine how a vacuum cleaner is going to fit on a desk, much less what it is required for. The station has nightly cleaning, and since the pandemic, each unit has been given a near-endless supply of anti-bacterial wipes which Carlos uses religiously on his office keyboard, even though he’s the only one who does. “Thank you, babe,” Carlos says slowly. It’s not supposed to be a question, but it kind of sounds like one. “What’s a desk vacuum?” “It’s this mini vacuum that gets rid of all the crumbs and stuff on your desk,” TK explains calmly. “I bought one for Dad. He loves it.” Carlos has heard those Freudian theories about marrying someone who subconsciously reminds you of your parent, but it still alarms him to realise TK considers him sufficiently similar to Owen that he buys them the same thing.  “I’m a little concerned you’re starting to believe all police officers eat doughnuts at their desk all day,” Carlos says weakly, trying to pass off his uncertainty as humour. TK laughs. “Baby, I’ve seen your abs. Those are not made of doughnuts.”

I think part of the reason Thai BLs can stay in the mid-budget movie area is because of the way they are funded - Product Placement. If a studio was the only one or one of very few shimming up the money then they'd want to make the best returns of their investment. An understandable business strategy. But because Thai BLs are not solely reliant on major investment from a few parties they can take risks with their content, they can make mistakes, they don't have to be edited to perfection, which often leads to making the most inoffensive thing possible.
So thank product placement that we can have 12 - 15 episode shows with kink, humor, unconventional ideas and absolutely bonkers chemistry.

I really resent all the people saying “oh, the Barbie movie is just one big ad, don’t go see it” like, OF COURSE it’s an ad! Most pieces of media these days are! You think the DND movie wasn’t an ad? The Last of Us show? Any Marvel or DC movies or show? What about every single product placement in basically every single piece of radio, TV, movie, etc? All those Apple products you see in shows or movies? The branded food products? The recognizable fashion brands? Do you seriously think none of that is an ad, and the Barbie movie is the first and only piece of media that’s selling you something? Grow up. We live in a capitalist world, everybody’s selling you something, you’re just so desensitized to it you don’t notice anymore.

Product Placement in most shows: This character loves this food and it makes them happy and do better things!
Product Placement in Naughty Babe: He was drinking this when he found out his fiance might be cheating on him and left it on the counter as he rushed off to confront him.

THESE AGAIN!!! LOOK AT THEM!
Tumblr media
This product placement highly amuses me because I've seen this tin, many a time, but never full. I don't think I've ever tasted the original cookies. Everyone older has this tin and fills it with their own cookies and I'm honestly astonished that they still even sell these because I don't know where they come from and HOW. Like where do you even get them? I don't think I've ever seen them in a store. Apparently they are available in South Korea?
These also showed up in King the Land btw. I had the same thoughts. Where did you find the actual original cookies???
Edit: I've seen it full of sewing stuff too, it's one or the other.
