DC x DP short
I'm picturing Danny moving to Gotham once he's an adult. He came out to his parents, and it went fine. More than fine. They listened to how he was struggling at school because he kept having to chase down the ghosts they let out by leaving the portal open. Jack was super proud of his son for being a ghost hunter even as a ghost, but Maddie understood his concern and set up some new protocols for the portal.
It now automatically closes after two minutes unless a specific command is put in by Danny to keep it open while he is in the Zone, and the shielding around it actually works to stop ghosts coming trig without hurting them now.
The shine of the mortal world has worn off for most of his regulars now, and those that come through have figured out compromises so they can still fulfil their obsessions without hurting others. The meta-protection act officially disbands the GIW, and Red Huntress is given a very thorough speaking to about personal bias and vendettas. She's not allowed back in the field until she comes to the realisation that ghosts are people too, and that she been the bad guy by hunting them the way she did. Phantom is officially recognised as a Hero, but he turns down working for any teams or joining the Big Leagues. He agrees to act as a back up though, in case of any world ending event.
By the time senior year rolls around, Danny has gotten his grades up enough that he can go to a pretty decent university if he wants to. He chooses Gotham University for his engineering degree because they're a feeder school for Wayne Enterprises, who in turn are a feeder company for working for the Justice League as a civilian engineer. Tucker also chooses GU for their tech program, while Sam elects not to go to university straight away.
Tucker and Danny move into an apartment right on the borders of Crime Alley and The Narrows. Tucker manages an impressive 4 months as a local hacker before Oracle notices him, but Danny only manages 3 weeks before he's spotted by a Bat.
He's lying down a foot above his building's roof, looking at the stars. It's a very rare cloudless night, and the power is out in his area. Poison Ivy had launched an attack earlier in the day that had taken cut the power lines, with her mutant plants feeding on the smog and pollution to get stronger.
Duke was up late, finishing the day shift by a quick loop of The Narrows, when he noticed a slightly glowing teenager(?) floating on one of the roofs. He takes note that the man isn't causing any harm and is just peacefully stargazing, before calling it in to Jason. He was technically supposed to be off the clock an hour ago, and besides, the building was on the Crime Alley side of this street. It's Jason's problem now.
Jason, on the other hand, is exhausted and just wants to have a quiet patrol before collapsing in bed. He hadn't been hit by Ivy's plants, but had taken a couple of tumbles while dodging them. He heads over to the address Duke gave him, to find the guy still floating there staring at the sky. He gets it, he does, he would float above the grime that coats Gotham rooftops if he could, but it's dangerous for a meta to be so unawares of his surroundings like this while obviously displaying his powers.
Danny, meanwhile, had clocked both of the vigilantes coming near him, but was really hoping that they would leave him alone. It had been a very long day for him. He'd finally managed to get to campus for his class, only to find that the place was covered in overgrown plants. He'd had to freeze a few to get into the building, and had then spent most of the afternoon in the library due to his class being cancelled. Unfortunately for him, his nearly finished assignment that he'd spent the day working on was eaten by one of the giant flowers on his way home. He'd been 'saved' by the stabby Robin, which had caused him to then also lose his laptop as they crashed to the rooftop a few streets over.
Thankfully, he had an amazing best friend in Tucker, who was doing his best to recover as much data as possible. On the downside, though, Tucker was mad at him for now having saved a backup of his files since they left Amity. He'd fled to the roof to escape his wrath, plans of bribes in the form of food running through his mind, when he'd caught sight of the Stars. Holy shit. It was so clear tonight!
He didn't even realise he'd begun to glow and float, too caught up in naming all of the stars and constellations he could see. His Obsession was feeling very satisfied tonight. Usually he had to invisibly fly above the cloud cover to see such a sight. Sure, the light pollution was still bad, but his mind was able to fill in the blanks across the sky.
The moment Jason landed on his roof, Danny heaved a great sigh. Damnit. The fun police were here. He wrenched his eyes from the sky, only to notice that - oh, shit - he was floating again. He fell to the roof with a light thump.
"Heeeyyy stranger, come here often?" Danny asked, as he rolled over to his side, propping his head up on his hand.

Hybrid/shapeshifter golden tiger reader as a vigilante with batfam? I really love your writing :0
Tumblr media
They're so PRETTY how did I not know they existed before???? Also I love shifter fics bc who doesn't
Masterlist
Part Two
Golden
Being a shifter is bad in this day and age, at least until the shifter is mature enough to shift on command. Before then, young shifters can shift with any strong emotion, especially negative ones like anger and fear.
Most shifters mature when they turn into adults, which means they're either taught to become temporary psychopaths or are homeschooled until they're mature enough.
You, like many shifters, were the latter. Now that you're in university and studying biology, living in your own apartment states away from your parents, you're free. So incredibly free.
Free to be you, free to talk to people who interest you, and free to fight the lowly criminals of Goth- wait, what?
It was an accident, you swear. You couldn't bear to hear that poor little girl's blood-curdling screams (you hadn't understood what the phrase meant before, but you sure do now) any longer, so you shifted and almost, but not quite, mauled the man to death.
"Pretty kitty!" she had called you, and from then on you vowed to look after the young kids of Gotham, especially when going to and coming from school as well as at night (if you weren't studying). Sometimes you simply lay in the bushes of a park and watched over the kids as they played on the playground.
They remained your main focus (though you did save others, you mostly watched over the young children) even when the press got wind of the golden tiger shifter vigilante. "Golden" is what they called you, and it was certainly better than other names the press had given vigilantes before.
The local bat population had gotten word of your existence beforehand and had tried to even just get a glimpse of you, but you were too quick. After the press got wind, they amped up their efforts.
You've decidedly had enough of your studying and walked out of your apartment, climbing into the window of an ashy-smelling abandoned building, the charcoal staining your fingers as you moved into the dark to shift.
One could guess what happened to the building, but it didn't have anything to do with a golden tiger climbing out its window on a cool early spring night, the snow thawing slower than usual. There weren't many people on the streets at this hour which you were glad for.
You take your normal route today, going through the less fortunate neighbourhoods where kids are most commonly found. Slushy snow drenches your paws in cold water as you leap onto the next roof and climb down the stairs on the side of the building.
There's a bundle of blankets placed gently into a plastic bucket. You nudge the bundle with your nose gently and when the wailing begins you huff. Another abandoned baby; it's the third one this month. A mother you can't afford a child or is scared for the child's safety when it comes to the father.
Your teeth close around the bucket and you begin carrying the baby to the hospital in Crime Alley, a long trek from where you picked the baby up.
You hear something. Whispers. Your ears rotate to find the source of the sound which would be impossible for a human to hear.
"That's the tiger?"
"No shit," the second voice hisses, much older than the first. "What else could it be? A cow?"
"Whatever," the first one replies. "What do we do? Think that's a baby?"
"Probably. I say we take the baby and bring it to the hospital."
You turn your head to where the sound is coming from, impeccable vision allowing you to see Robin and Red Hood perched on a building above you.
"What about the- how good is a tiger's hearing?"
You do trust these vigilantes but not more than you trust yourself. You flick your tail and continue walking, a few corners from the hospital. The sound of their grappling hooks as the vigilantes follow you are only able to annoy you.
There's the hospital, just at the end of the street. You take no more than two steps before Red Hood steps out in front of you. You aren't surprised as you could hear him the entire time.
"Can I have the baby?" He asks, hand outstretched as he gestures for you to hand it over.
Your eyes narrow and you turn to see Robin behind you.
"It'll be easier for me to get it to the hospital," he explains. "They won't react calmly to a tiger carrying a baby."
He had an unfortunately valid point. The other times where you'd brought a baby into a facility, people freaked out.
Reluctantly, you gently place the bucket on the cold pavement and step back, letting the vigilante pick it up.
As Red Hood takes the baby to the hospital, you turn fully to face Robin. He's short and you reach up to the start of his ribcage.
"You're not an easy tiger to locate," he says. "It takes a few idiots."
You make a sound akin to a laugh, turn your head and vanish into the alleyway beside you.
Robin curses himself for not getting to pat the tiger. He'll be damned if his siblings get to first.

Part 6- from the top of my lungs
Dp x DC AU: Regent!Jazz & Vigilante!Jazz
"I step out outside and I take a deep breath and I get real high and I scream from the top of my lungs, 'What's going on?!'" - What's Up? by 4 Non Blondes
Masterlist Part 5
It was probably hypocritical of Danny to lecture Jazz about taking up a vigilante role around their new haunt when he himself couldn’t resist the instinctual urge to give the local breed of stupidity a beatdown.
If anything, it was a good way to get back into shape.
(Danny’s not fooling anyone, he’s a twink.) (A ghouly goopy ghostly one, but still a twink.)
Danny argued that he had more experience with vigilantism than Jazz, when she’d taken up a support role even after training. Sure, her aim has gotten so much better with practice, but Jazz was only a liminal.
(A highly ecto-contaminted liminal with a scary sword that can cut through reality to create portals that currently does his kingly paperwork for him.)
At least he could comfort himself with the knowledge that Jazz was trained by the frightening and awe-inspring Pandora of the Infinite Realms Acropolis, bearing her own gifted Bracelets of Submission as a symbol of respect from one woman to another.
(Jazz and Pandora sparring made the Boy King eternally grateful to be on the good side of both women.)
(Scary was an understatement.)
(No wonder Jazz and Sam got along so well.)
(Batman and Wonder Woman were supposedly friends, being founders of the Justice League and all.)
Tumblr media
Gotham was all kinds of batshit crazy when the sun went down.
(pun recognized and intended.)
A dumb statement for any Gothamite, but newcomers to the city never really got it until the were robbed at gunpoint within five minutes of sunset.
That wasn’t really a concern for Danny, he’s gotten into the habit of phasing his important items into his body for safe keeping, but his increased need to do something made his late night walks morph into something that vaguely resembled his Witching Hours patrols back in Amity. Midnight to three am, strictly rooftops without too much barrier crossing into Hood’s territory were now fully integrated into the Halfa’s life- the purring of his core when he protected someone was healing something inside him he hadn’t realized was sick.
(Lies.)
Without the Red Hood to manage his Haunt, the Boy King and Regent had brute forced their way passed the boundary line to help the once-Revenant’s people until the one in question could do it himself. The habitants of Crime Alley were hesistant at first to accept more vigilantes into their midst, especially one that was obviously a meta with a concerning range of physical abilites, but with the Regent’s quiet strength and Phantom’s quirky attitude they were begrudgingly allowed to continue.
(If Phantom also used his ice manipulation to help stablilize dilapidated buildings being used as shelter for the upcoming winter, then all the better.)
The Regent had been caught in the Bat’s territory more recently, much to Danny’s worry. Jazz could no doubt break the furry over her knee, Danny had seen her do it to Skulker of all people, but drawing the ire of the big bat was the opposite of ideal. Batman’s Stabby Robin might even try to challenge Jazz for her Ecto-sword, which was both hilarious to imagine and panic-inducing, because stabby Robin was stabby.
After the early morning chat with the Signal, Danny had come to a decision regarding the leather clad crime lord furry and his flock of birdies- step up as the Boy King and request Batman’s help in riding the Realms of the Anti-Ecto Acts. Jazz already did so much as his Regent, he could at least get the ball rolling on this.
In order to begin, he had a sad trenchcoat man to call.
Tumblr media
“Bloody Hell, Phantom!”
The Phantom, in his original jumpsuit rather than the admittedly awesome Star King regalia, grinned with a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth. Closer to a snarl, but whatever.
“Sad trenchcoat man! Just the guy I wanted to see.”
Danny knew the guy’s name, hard not to when he’d seen the three floor-to-ceiling filing cabinets in Jazz’s office dedicated to the Laughing Magician alone, but the halfa was nothing if not dedicated to the bit.
When he’d sensed Constantine’s magic at work, he’d hijacked the summoning circle for his own use- suck it, a king trumps whatever entity Constantine was trying to get and Danny was less likely to want his soul in return for a favor.
(Did it really count when he’d already gifted the glued together pieces of the guy’s soul to Jazz as a paperweight?)
“Phantom, lad, why’re you here?”
The Ghost boy huffed a laugh, the building annoyance in the air just from his presence was fueling his life force.
“What, can’t say hi to a friend now? After all the work I did to stop that demon from coming instead too.”
(Lies.) (The summoning had been for an observant, but those bastard eyebags can eat a dick for all he cared.)
“Demon?” Constantine’s voice cracked with surprise, gaze flickering over the runes he’d lazily copied from a book.
“Yep.”
“Constantine.” A growl interrupted whatever comeback the Magician could have conjured, with the shadows of the darkened room parting to allow the Dark Knight himself to step through. “There is no time.”
“Aye, Batsy.” The brit turned back to Phantom, an edge of desperation now coloring the annoyance the ghost had brought. “Phantom, I need a favor.”
Tumblr media
Phantom blinked.
“Uh, sure dude?”
“Constantine.” Batman interrupted again, but the sad trenchcoat man waved him off.
“Your people been wreckin’ government buildings and the bloody USA is throwing a fit.”
Government buildings? Phantom’s people? The GIW?
Could his luck really be in his favor this time? After all, here was Batman, and the sad trenchcoat man who could verify that Phantom was a spirit of protection and not one of vengeance.
(He left that to the Regent.)
“If that’s the case, then there is nothing I can do.”
(He would be right there with his people. What’s a few more buildings destroyed to free the innocent ghosts trapped within?)
“Whot?”
Phantom crossed his arms, allowing gravity to bring him to the floor where he stood at his full height. Unintimidating was one word for it, but he couldn’t really care less at the moment.
“The GIW have committed acts of War against the Infinite Realms, Constantine. It’s only thanks to the Regent and Future King that this Living Realm hasn’t been claimed by the Unquiet Dead.”
It was true. Jazz was the best Regent Danny could’ve ever gotten. She was liminal enough to understand that the Denziens of the Realms were not inherently malicious, but human enough to realize that she too would be afraid of the ghosts if she hadn’t been raised around the dead and (un)dying.
It was only thanks to that fine line she walked that Phantom wasn’t to join the Unquiet Dead and Neverborn as they descended onto the Living with the fury of thousand suns.
Danny, while a half-ghost, had died unlike his big sister. Sure he was brought back by Ectoplasm, but he had only returned halfway and that part of him was chomping at the bit to avenge those who were ended that he couldn’t protect.
“Here.” Phantom shallowly intoned as he pulled a flash drive from his chest, thrown to the big bat. “That contains all collected information the Regent was comfortable sharing with the Living. Share it with your league and get the Acts demolished, Batman.”
Phantom sighed heavily, shoulders drooping as he finished in a tired voice, “Please. I don’t want to fight. Please don’t make me go to war.”
Was he trying to tug on the Bat’s heartstrings? Yes. Was he being honest in not wanting to got to war? Also yes.
“War?”
“Yeah, all denziens of the Realms would have to fight. We’re all effected by the Acts, even if we don’t want to hurt anyone we’d have to…for our right to exist.” Phantom replied lowly. “I’m a spirit of protection, I don’t want to hurt the innocent.”
(It was a truth he had come to terms with, after his sister killed their parents.)
(He died wanting to be loved and protected by the adults who claimed to be his parents, but it had been Jazz that raised him.)
(She avenged him twice over.)
(She gave him a grave.)

A/N: No Hardcover/Anger Management ship content this time, just lore for this world I'm building.
And look, Sad trenchcoat man!
Song quotes are from the same songs on my Jazz/Jason playlist. Typically the song that started playing when I get ready to post this.

Okay, I was just patrolling Crime Alley, right? I do that sometimes with other goons. Red Hood can’t be everywhere at once. (But he never lets me go alone, for whatever reason).
I get to The Edge, and I see Stabby Robin. He’s fighting a criminal, but he’s on his side, so it’s no biggy.
Well, the criminal RUNS INTO CRIME ALLEY. Like an IDIOT. And Stabby Robin tries to follow them. Also like an idiot.
I shout at both of them “GET YOUR ASSES OUT IF CRIME ALLEY YOU ASSHOLES!” And start trying to fight the criminal. Now, most Bats would see this as what it is, a goon of Red Hood helping out. Stabby did not. Stabby tried to get between me and the criminal to fight them himself. He said something about “letting the trained professionals handle this” (I wasn’t really paying attention).
I tried to remind him that Crime Alley is HOOD’S turf, and that Bats and Birds aren’t allowed here. He ignored me. So what’d I do? I simply grabbed him, took his sword, shoved him over the threshold and returned to beating the shit out of the criminal.
Apparently he didn’t like that, because he tried coming back in. Saying something about “Putting myself at risk”. I just shouted “Hypocrite!” and continued doing my task. The goon with me handled keeping Stabby Robin out of Crime Alley while I was taking care of the criminal.
Now Stabby Robin is always up my ass about EVERYTHING, and keeps trying to find something criminal about me. Literally the only illegal thing I do is work for Red Hood.
I think he thinks we have a rivalry going on, but I just want to do my fucking job. What is my job? Beat criminal ass, close portals to other dimensions (with the help of some friends I made across the multiverse; I can’t close portals myself), and keep Bats and Birds out of Crime Alley.
Anyway, he’s really getting on my nerves. Anyone have any advice on how to deal with a 14 y/o who thinks you’re more criminal than you actually are? Also, yes, I did give him his sword back. I’m not a heathen.

On why Batman took in the Robins
There is not much that I hate more than the “Bruce Wayne needs light to balance the darkness of Batman” justification on why each of the robins took up the job. It makes the already a little bit militaristic relationship between Bruce and his actual children just that much worse.
I’ve always thought that the reason why all of the Robins were made into Robins was because they literally could not be stopped.
Like imagine, Batman goes out one night to see a tiny child beating the fuck out of gangsters demanding the location of Tony Zucco. This pint sized kid apparently broke out of his orphanage and has spend the last several nights with no martial art training terrorising the Gotham nightlife and there is so much rage contained in him that any attempt to stop him is just going to make him more furious and that much more unstoppable. So Bruce takes him in and tries to curb the anger and it kind of works but now the kid fucking refuses to stop fighting crime and Bruce is just horribly equipped to handle this conversation so he just allows it and vows to protect Dick at all costs.
Later, Dick has left and Batman is equalising and figuring out his now solitude, Batman finds an actual child prying off the hubcaps of the fucking bat mobile in crime alley on the day of his parents murder and holy shit this kid has some fucking guts to try this. And then the kid lies to Batman’s face, hits him with a tire iron, yells an insult at him and runs away and holy shit this kid has no fear. Jason later proves to be as cunning as he is brave and when Jason insists on becoming Robin, Bruce knows that if he said no, Jason would find a way to make it happen regardless.
Tim is a special case, tracking down Starfire and Dick and then talking to Bruce, this kid is smart as hell and stubborn to the bone. Bruce says no because how could he say yes and Tim doesn’t fucking listen, following him around and stealing Jason’s suit to fight with Bruce and this kid who went by himself from New Jersey to San Francisco and tracked down three superhero’s won’t fucking stop. So Bruce trains him with every intention of making this training as unnecessarily gruelling and miserable as possible in the hopes of scaring this kid off but he doesn’t and now Batman has a Robin again.
And if Damian wasn’t Robin he literally would have just gone out and beheaded the Gotham night life or gone back to Talia so fuck it, Welcome to the club.
Like I understand that Bruce got emotional stability from having family around him but that as the only explanation sounds so predatory to me.

I feel like after what Batman did to Hood in RHATO Bats should absolutely get shit treatment from the family especially after they all find out that the bullet was a blank and Cobblepot is still alive.
But
But
He would really fell the weight of what he did after he sees the retaliation of the Crime Alley on Batman.
Because they would fucking riot.
The Red Hood is very possessive of the Crime Alley. It's his turf.
The bats hardly ever go there. And if they do they're always escorted by Hood.
Rarely you can see Red Robin or Signal with him, but that's like twice a year and only when their current case leads there and they have no other options. People don't dislike them, but they don't like them either. They ignore them for most part and pretend they don't exist.
Robin can hardly ever be seen around Hood and it's when the two of them are the only ones in Gotham. It's suspicious, but Hood seems content, or even happy, when they're together. People don't know him, but they do know he understands lethal violence better than the rest of the bats despite his age. People don't have anything against him. He weirdly puts them at ease.
Nightwing and Red Hood aside from cases like the others can be seen basically once every week when the acrobat is in town crouching on a rooftop and bickering or sitting on the edge and eating fast food. When once Nightwing attempted to pop in and kick some asses on his own people didn't like that. They don't know him. They don't trust him. Hood just drags him out of his territory to god knows where (to one of his safehouses to give him a lecture on how the citizens of the Crime Alley (mainly kids) don't trust him so he makes them uneasy and skittish). For the following time Nightwing doesn't show up at all. They come back to their usual hangouts in about a month from the event. Nightwing doesn't try to come alone anymore. People don't mind him, but they do mind his terrible puns. They hate those.
Spoiler is the only one actually allowed in the Crime Alley without supervision. Despite that she rarely does go alone, usually only after Hood gets badly hurt and can't cover all the ground or go to patrol at all. However they are often seen fooling around, being sassy bitches™ and annoying the shit out of criminals more than actually fighting them. People see the little things in her behavior and manerism that most would miss, hear her accent, though not as thick as Hood's you can clearly recognize that she is Gotham's blood and bone, raised in the parts of the city that shows you her true colors. They like her.
Black Bat sometimes joins them especially when there's food involved. She's quiet. Terrifying to criminals, but always gentle with kids. People don't trust her fully because it's hard to get a read on her but it's nice to have her around from time to time.
Batman however is never seen in the Crime Alley and if he does visit he goes as quickly as he comes. He doesn't understand the Crime Alley. He doesn't have what it takes to protect them. He terrifies everyone with no exceptions. People don't want him in their home. They don't like him.
And then he beats Red Hood into a bloody pulp. They see it live on TV. And their dislike for him sours into pure hate.
Gotham has never seen anti-Batman protests. It's not Metropolis. Gotham loves their vigilantes at best and tolerates them at worst.
However people of the Crime Ally riot after what Batman did to Red Hood.
Their Red Hood
Their Hero
Their Guardian Angel
Someone who makes sure no one sells drugs to kids and even helps some people get out of addiction.
Someone who regularly checks on working girls and boys, scares prickly landlords into giving them more time or straight up helps them pay rent.
Someone who makes sure all the single moms have whatever they need for themselves and their babies, occasionally even babysitting so they can get some well deserved rest.
Someone who leaves clothes and food for street kids to pick up in places only they know about, meets with them sometimes in the evenings before patrol to tutor them in whatever they need help with at school, teach them some self defense moves or simply play some football with them.
Someone who brings rapists to the brink of death with his fists and then turns to the victim, takes off his helmet and does anything to make himself smaller and less scary, talks to them in gentle voice and tries to convince them to go to Dr. Thompkin's clinic to get checked out. He offers walking them there (or home, whichever they choose, he never forces them, he understands) and they always say yes because they trust him.
They depend on him.
They adore him.
And Batman hurt him.
Kicked him out of Gotham like he ever had any right to do that (after all Red Hood is more Gotham than Batman will ever be).
Batman has a case in the Alley for the first time since the Red Hood first appeared and claimed it as his territory. But now Hood's gone so it's on Batman to investigate. Except people don't want him there. They don't care what he has to say. He hurt their guardian so he can go fuck himself. They throw rocks at him whenever he's in range. Someone hit him with a baseball bat and another person straight up just pulled out a gun and was ready to kill him.
Almost every intact wall in Crime Ally is covered with a graffiti of a crossed out bat symbol. (There's also one huge graffiti of Red Hood's helmet with angel wings behind it and two crossed guns under it. It's signed 'Guardian Angel')
Batmobile was covered in all kinds of mysterious substances and scratched up after it was parked a bit too close to Crime Alley.
When he's crouching on an edge of a rooftop an old lady spots him and starts yelling very colorful insults at the man who dared to touch 'our boy'.
After he saves a kid in Browery from his attacker he frowns at him with such hate and distaste, but when he asks six words that feel like a stab through the heart. 'Why did you hurt Uncle Hood?'
And it's not just Crime Ally. Most people from the poorer parts of Gotham protest against him.
He starts to understand how Hood is viewed by people he protects. He's regretting what he's done more and more every day. Bruce finds Jason and basically begs him for forgiveness and for him to come back. Jason (even though he shouldn't have) already forgave him because he has a heart of gold.
But the people of Crime Alley never did.

Do you have any good Batman fic recs that are actually based on the source material? I saw your recent repost and I’m really glad I’m not the only one who feels that way
Oh for sure! I honestly have. fewer than I wish I did but I just went through my bookmarks and found some.
First I do gotta pitch my own work, which I don’t feel bad about because I literally wrote bibliographies for the fics I’m about to link you + I wrote them both in response to bad fanon characterizations:
ornithology 301 (tim drake character study, adheres very closely to canon)
which came first (jason todd character study. takes more liberties with canon but every liberty taken is in direct response to canon or fanon, all with the goal of crafting a more cohesive and believable character. chapter two still a wip)
and then I’ve also written like. other stuff which does tend to be canon compliant and where it isn’t strictly canon compliant it’s still like. informed by my knowledge of batfam canon which is Extensive. feel free to look at my dashboard
other stuff not by me:
The Return by lurkinglurkerwholurks. Deals with the fallout of Bruce’s return from being lost in time. I appreciate this fic for being clearly informed by canon knowledge, as is most of the work by this author.
sanctuary by yutro. Jason + Bruce talk about how Bruce won’t stop mourning the Jason-that-was and how that grief affects their relationship. Thank you nuance
3:15 by partingxshot. Dick’s Batman to Damian’s Robin and the careful way they learn to understand each other. I haven’t finished this fic bc it is long and I found it in the midst of the college semester, but so far I really love it. Subtle but nuanced characterization and allows both characters to make mistakes and then grow.
The Penny Drops, the Penny Dreads by Batbirdies. this one isn’t super canonical since it deals with Robin era Jason and Bruce is far more communicative in this than he is in the comics, but I still like this one for taking, I think, a much more thoughtful approach to building Robin!Jason’s character than a lot of other fics. Jason deals with money anxiety and the effects of grief hitting him now that he’s not in survival mode.
Spoiler Alert: It Gets Better by carolinaa. Again, not canon compliant since this is an au but I really enjoy the characterization here. Jason is running a shelter for queer kids in crime alley with the help of various other bats. Steph (who’s a trans girl in this one), pre-spoiler, ends up there and gets help. I think this one ranks so high for me because I fucking love Steph and there’s not a lot of good content for her out there.
and that’s uh. that’s the end of my list. “wow that’s so short!” yeah. yeah. I am fighting for my fucking life in this fandom.

Character: Bruce Wayne x Fem!Reader // Damian Wayne x Batmom
Summary: What happens when Talia Al Ghul learns that someone has stolen the affections of her past lover and her son?
Word Count: 3,000 [One Shot]

“Delinquents have been detained. I can hear the sirens,” Damian stated calmly in his comms.
“Good work, Robin. You know where to meet me. You have a minute,” Bruce responded as he whipped the bat mobile through Crime Alley to grab his son.
Just as Damian opened the door and hopped in, an alarm went off within the vehicle.
“The Manor,” Damian thought aloud as he read the screens with his father.
Bruce ignored his comment and was calling Alfred immediately.
“Master Wayne,” the butler instantly picked up. “I followed protocol, but they were already gone when I arrived.”
“Y/N…” Bruce immediately asked.
“They took her,” Alfred told him, distress clear in his tone.
Damian’s head whipped to his father to watch his reaction.
But Bruce’s jaw only tightened and he sped the batmobile even faster.
Returning faster to Wayne Manor than ever before, Bruce jumped out of the batmobile and up the secret entrance to get to the main house.
Damian was hot on his heels. He’d already sent an encrypted message to his brothers, informing them of the situation. It was only a matter of time before they were at the manor as well. Though Damian suspected Jason would not come, instead already starting to scour the streets of Gotham for Y/N and her captors.
Alfred was already waiting for them. “Master Wayne, I am so sorry.”
Bruce ignored him and walked to the master bedroom. Y/N would’ve been sleeping when the attack occurred. It wouldn’t have mattered if she had been awake, she had no training in self defense. She was merely an innocent civilian.
“Father,” Damian muttered quietly.
Bruce turned around to find his son ripping a shuriken out of the door frame.
They shared a look, both recognizing the particular shape and color.
“The League…” Damian muttered quietly, saying what they both were thinking.

Y/N was barely awake.
They clearly had drugged her with something to make her more compliant. Everything was foggy and muffled.
Yet they still tied her hands and ankles together, as if her brain could even manage to get her body to move.
But Y/N could feel the effects of the drugs losing their strength, yet keeping their hold on her.
She squinted as she looked around. The air felt different. It was colder and dryer, making Y/N believe that she was no longer in Gotham. Little did she know, she wasn’t even in the country any longer.
“I do not know what he sees in you,” a woman hummed from somewhere in the room.
Y/N blinked as he listened, but her eyes could not adjust to the low lighting and she didn’t even have the strength to turn her head.
“You are weak. Ripped from your own bed without so much as a fight.”
Then she heard the grunts and clashing of metal.
The woman smiled. “Right as expected, my son.”
Y/N’s brow furrowed at ‘my son.’ Then she finally lifted her head and took in her surroundings. There were swords and other weapons stored everywhere, and there was armor hung from the walls.
“Talia?” She whispered.
The woman chuckled. “Weak, but not utterly foolish.”
Then the door of the room was thrown open.
Y/N looked to see Damian in his Robin uniform.
“My son, finally returned," Talia greeted with a smirk.
“Mother.” Then his gaze flickered to Y/N. Very subtly, he was scanning her body to access any possible injuries.
His gaze turned back to his mother. “What is the meaning of this?”
“You have forgotten where you come from, Damian. You are not just the heir to the Wayne family. Before anything else, you are my son and the heir to Ra's al Ghul’s throne.”
“She has nothing to do with this,” Damian said with a gesture to Y/N.
“She has everything to do with this,” Talia snapped. “She has made you weak.”
Damian said nothing.
“She has taken you both from me,” Talia growled.
“Father does not love you,” he growled.
“A small lapse in judgment on his part, but not something that cannot be remedied. Our love gave us you, and I fully believe he will return to me.”
“His heart belongs to someone else. The sooner you realize that, the sooner you can give up your fantasy.” Then he hesitated to say the next part. “I never plan on returning to The League of Shadows. I wish to stay with father.”
Talia’s amusement vanished at her sons words.
The next second, she unsheathed her sword. “Perhaps I should just kill her and remind you of your place, my son.”
With that, Damian rushed forward and intercepted Talia’s attack with his own sword.
“Do not touch her,” Damian growled.
Their swords continued to clash as the mother and son fought each other. The fight raged on for what felt like forever. Too evenly matched, but also both too terrible at hiding that neither actually wanted to kill the other.
In the distance, Y/N could hear even more fighting. She could only assume it was Bruce fighting his way to her and his son.
Talia and Damian’s swords locked again, both of their stances shaking from the hold.
“Do you really think you and your father stand a chance against the entire League? Why do you think we lured you all the way here? You are outnumbered.” Talia hissed.
“You think us foolish enough to come alone?” Damian smirked right before there was a boom that shook the entire compound.
Talia’s focus slipped half a second, allowing Damian a window to go on the offense.
He flipped his mother’s sword out of her grip and held his own to her throat.
“Yield,” he growled down to her.
“You truly choose her over your own mother?” The hurt in her eyes was clear.
“You abandoned me, used me as a tool to disrupt father’s life. She taught me that there is more to life than killing and destroying. She loves me and care for me, even when I gave her no reason to do so.”
“And it will be the death of you,” Talia warned.
He glared at her. “Yield!”
But he knew she would never. So he whipped out a dart and blew it to her neck – a sedative.  It knocked her out within seconds.
Waiting until he was sure it had worked, Damian sheathed his sword once again and ran to Y/N’s side.
With a knife, he cut the ropes around her wrists and ankles.
“D-Damian,” her voice was still slurred from the drugs and she was weak. How long had she been here without food or water? “I don’t think I can walk."
Damian helped her to her feet. “Y/N, please try,” he begged as he wrapped her around around his shoulders. He was still just a boy, one that was shorter than her. But he wouldn’t give up that easily.
There was another explosion.
“What’s-What’s happening?” Y/N asked as she dragged her feet and held on tightly.
“That would be Todd, most likely taking his job of distracting to an unnecessary level.”
“You all came?” She asked in shock.
“Of course,” Damian scoffed.
Suddenly an object came flying at them and Y/N cried out in pain.
“No!” Damian bellowed as he looked up to see that another League member was attempting to stop their escape. And with it, they had thrown a shuriken that had landed in Y/N’s side.
She dropped to the ground.
Damian screamed as he unsheathed his sword once again and charged the assassin. It wouldn’t take him long. He knew that every minute spent fighting was a minute Y/N was bleeding out and edging closer to death.
He didn’t hold back like he had with his mother and quickly disarmed the enemy. Then thrusting his sword into a nonfatal area of his body, enough to neutralize him.
Damian rushed back to Y/N’s side, where a pool of blood was forming from her wound.
He knew it was useless, but he still tried to lift Y/N into his arms to carry her. He cried out in both panic and frustration.
The building had now caught aflame due to Jason’s explosions. Damian would need to call for backup, hoping one of his older brothers could help.
Then a shadow was cast over him.
Damian tensed, believing it to be another attack.
But he looked up to find his father standing before them.
However, Bruce’s gaze was on his unconscious girlfriend.
With the arrival of his father, Damian’s cold and calculating disposition melted.
“She’s hurt,” his voice trembled and tears formed in his eyes. “Help her.”
Damian rarely cried. He cried less than grown men. He was raised that way. It didn’t help that his father was not a great example of healthy emotional expression.
But Bruce knew what his sons tears were for: Damian was frustrated, he felt weak, and he thought he had failed his mission. But most of all, Bruce knew his son was crying for fear of Y/N’s death. Because the boy had grown to love her.
As if there were a world when Bruce wouldn’t give his own life to save Y/N.
Bruce bent down and carefully brought Y/N into his arms.
Damian heard her mutter his father’s name, though still delirious from both the drugs he’s sure his mother pumped into her and the blood loss.
“Red Robin, get the jet to my coordinates immediately,” Bruce instructed through his comms.
Damian wondered how his father could be so calm when the woman he loved was bleeding out in his arms. This wasn’t bat business, this was personal. But Bruce spoke like it was just another night of patrol.
A few minuets later, Damian and Bruce had fought their way through the flames and burning compound.
Tim lowered the platform of the jet.
Damian made sure his father and Y/N got on before he followed. He turned and gave one last look at the burning compound that would no longer exist come morning. He did not fear for his mother’s life. He knew someone from the League would come for her – if she didn’t save herself first.
When he boarded the jet, his father already had Y/N on the surgical table that elevated from the jet floor.
Bruce had taken off his cowl, allowing Damian and his brothers to study his expressions.
Damian had been wrong about his father handling the situation like any other mission. For now he could see the terror and worry in his father’s eyes, despite him trying to control his emotions.
Damian looked to Jason, who still had his Red Hood helmet on.
“My grandfather?” He asked his brother.
“Escaped,” Jason muttered.
Damian stepped forward to help Bruce with Y/N’s injuries.
“She’ll be OK,” he muttered to his father.
All of them had high-level medical training to know.
Thankfully the assassin’s aim was not great and didn’t land in lethal place on Y/N’s body. But she still lost a lot of blood and would need many stitches.
All the brother’s shared a look when Bruce ignored the statement.
———
Y/N woke up to someone gripping her hand. She recognized from the smell and the feel of the bedding that she was in Bruce’s bed at the manor.
She winced as she opened her eyes to find Bruce was the one holding her hand as he sat in a chair only inches away from the side of the bed.
“Hi,” she whispered to him with a sad smile.
“Hi,” he said back with a smirk.
“How long have I been asleep?”
“Two days.”
Then Y/N looked past Bruce to realize there was someone else in the room.
Damian passed out on the velvet chaise that was pushed against the windows.
“He hasn’t left your side,” Bruce told her. “Dick had to convince him just to take a shower for 5 minutes when we first got back.”
Y/N’s heart melted at the revelation.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t here.”
The sound of Bruce’s voice as he said it made Y/N’s gaze snap back to him. Had it shook? Or was she imagining it?
Y/N squeezed his hand that was still wrapped around hers.
“I know,” she told him with a sympathetic look.
He hid it well, but Y/N knew Bruce. And she knew that her being kidnapped from his own home probably drove him mad with guilt. She wouldn’t be surprised if he’d already designed an entirely new security system to prevent something like that ever happening again.
Bruce took in a shaky breath and opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out.
He wanted to say that he always feared her being with him would put her in danger like this.
He wanted to say that maybe she should stay away from him.
He wanted to say that him and the kids didn’t deserve her.
He wanted to say that the only reason this happened is because Talia hated that she loved her son better than she ever did.
But Bruce had never been good at saying how he actually felt – or even acknowledging he had any feelings at all.
So Y/N brought his hand to her lips and kissed his knuckles. “Bruce, I know,” she said once again.
“I won’t let it happen again. I promise you,” he told her evenly.
“Bruce, I knew what I signed up for when you told me you were Batman. If I wasn’t willing to face the reality of it, I wouldn’t have stayed.”
“No one would’ve blamed you if you hadn’t.”
There was a knock at the door and then it opened a second later.
Damian jumped awake at the sound. But then he quickly brought his attention to Y/N. “You’re awake.”
But everyone’s attention was on Dick, who was standing at the open doorway.
“Hey,” he greeted Y/N, surprised to see that she was awake. “How are you feeling?”
“Sore. Tired. But I’ll be alright.”
He seemed to relax from her answer.
Then he winced when he looked at Bruce. “They put the signal up.”
Bruce’s jaw tightened.
He was about to open his mouth to ask them to handle it, not wanting to leave Y/N alone now that she had woken up.
“Go, Bruce. I’ll be OK.” Y/N told him, reading his mind.
“I think it’s the Joker,” Dick added with a serious frown.
“Bruce, go.” Y/N repeated.
And he saw the sincerity in her eyes. He leaned forward and kissed her gently, deciding he didn’t care if his two sons were witnesses to the intimacy.
Then Bruce kissed her forward. “I’ll be back as soon as I can. Alfred will be here if you need anything. Do not hesitate to call.”
Y/N nodded.
Bruce stood up and acknowledged Damian and Dick. “Let’s go.”
Once they were ways down the hall, Bruce heard Damian stop.
“Father?”
Bruce and Dick both turned to face Damian.
“I wish to stay with Y/N.”
Bruce and Dick shared a look, and then Dick decided to give the two a moment alone and muttered something about waiting in the cave.
Bruce walked back to his youngest son.
Damian’s gaze was glued on the floor. “Mother truly would’ve killed her?”
Bruce sighed. “Most likely, yes.” He saw no point in lying to his son.
“Because she knows that you and I love her?”
“Yes.”
Damian was quiet for a moment. But Bruce knew he had more to say.
“I used to think I had to earn it.”
Bruce frowned. “What do you mean?”
“Mother’s love. I had to earn it. Win in combat. Successfully execute a target. Outsmart a puzzle or challenge.” Damian looked up at his father with a broken expression. “Her love always came with a price.”
Bruce kneeled down to his son.
The boy shook his head. “But Y/N made me realize that I don’t have to earn anyone’s love. I don’t have to prove that I’m worthy of it.” He bit his lip. “She’s not my father or my brother. She didn’t have to love me. But she does…even when I did nothing to earn it.”
“Everyone is deserving of love, Damian.” Bruce gripped his son’s shoulder. “I’m sorry for not teaching you that myself.”
Damian nodded. “So, may I please stay with her tonight? I don’t want her to be alone.” But then he quickly corrected himself. “Unless of course, you require my assistance, father.”
Bruce smirked at him. “I think we will manage, Damian.” Then he squeezed his shoulder. “Look after her for me, alright?”
Damian relaxed and quickly nodded his head. “Of course, father.”
When Bruce returned hours later, Damian was cuddled next to Y/N in the bed. But clearly laying in a position to be mindful of her injuries. Both were fast asleep. The bright television was the only thing lighting the room, as it played a Pixar movie.
Bruce couldn’t help but grin at the sight.
“I got him,” Dick whispered to him before stepping into the room and carefully lifting the boy in his arms, clearing the space in the bed for Bruce to join Y/N.
Bruce moved about the room as he changed into cotton shorts and went without a shirt.
Y/N woke slightly as he joined her in bed.
“Everything OK?” She whispered sleepily.
“Everything’s fine. Did Damian keep you company?”
Y/N smiled and shifted her body so she was cuddle into him. “Yes…my little protector.”
Bruce smiled at that. “Don’t let him hear the ‘little’ part…”
She chuckled. “Good call.”
And then she was fast asleep once again.

Protégé
pairing: red hood!jason todd x robin!reader, slow burn
warning: swearing
a/n: for context, this is somewhat loosely based off of Battle for the Cowl (2009) which I definitely recommend as a read!
There was something about falling that you would never, ever get tired of.
Ever.
Probably.
With the wind whistling in your ears, your hair floating up in a million directions, and your limbs seemingly weightless as the buildings and lights blurred into one endless streak of color, the rush of adrenaline that ran through your body right before your grappling hook shot out and you landed quietly on the concrete was about a million times better than any sparring session back at the cave.
You grinned as you straightened, rather proud of the fact that you had actually managed to land so smoothly without nearly paralyzing yourself. Again. The landing was something you had been working on for a while now.
You could practically hear Bruce’s voice ringing through your head after your little stunt, lamenting on and on about how you had more important things to focus on during patrols, and you let out a sigh as you ran down the backway of the nearly empty streets.
The heavy man who had been bound up with a decently made gag and one of Bruce’s fancy tech pieces (Batcuffs, maybe? Something else with Bat smacked in front of it?) grunted beside you.
“What? Not like you had someplace to be.” You grabbed the back of his rather tacky-looking spandex suit to drag him along back to where your mentor was supposed to be.
Despite your (many) disagreements and his (many) criticisms of your hand-to-hand combat skills, attitude issues, and pretty much everything else relating to you, Bruce had actually still allowed you to go off on your own tonight. It might’ve been because he wanted a few hours of nothing but beating up petty criminals by himself for stress-relief, it might’ve been because he had started trying out that whole independence thing with you a little more (even though you were still only permitted to be about five blocks or so away), it might’ve been plot-convenience - but either way, you appreciated the gesture.
It didn’t take long for you to pull your new friend over to what should’ve been your rendezvous point with Batman, letting the man drop with a dull thud and a grunt of protest against the concrete as you glanced around for the other man. You weren’t particularly concerned by the fact that the Bat himself wasn’t there yet - after all, he was the goddamn Batman. He’d show up eventually. In the meanwhile, you decided to go over the information you had gotten on the criminal with you.
Just for the sake of it. Bruce would make you go over it anyways.
“Drury Walker, thirty-two years old, found him trying to mug someone in a back alley and make an escape. Called himself…” you paused, looking down at his sorry-looking outfit for a few moments while he looked up at you with murder and vengence in his eyes. “...Killer Moth.”
“Killer Moth?” A completely new voice repeated in disbelief, causing you to immediately whirl around to face them in a fight stance, heart racing at a million miles per hour. The guy in front of you had his hands up in the air, his face concealed with some sort of red knock-off Iron Man helmet. He was gonna get copyrighted by Marvel Studios. “Shit, sorry,” he started at the sight of you, still leaning up against one of the walls. “I was supposed to make a wholeass dramatic entrance, but you said his name was Killer Moth and that-” The man made a noise that was either a sharp cough or a laugh of some kind. “-sounded so fucking lame I couldn’t help myself.”
Despite the fact that you were definitely in some sort of major trouble with this new guy, he really did have a point. Even Killer Moth himself would’ve been embarrassed by how trash his name was, if not for the fact that he looked like he was on the verge of an aneurysm - understandably so, since the new guy had produced not one, but two guns out of apparently nowhere.
“And let me guess,” he continued, pointing one of them at your head, his tone still all-too light and easy. “You must be the Bat’s brand-new Robin.”
Now this is where most people would've shut up and proceeded to be complicit with the dude holding two guns. But Batman hadn’t seen reason and made you his (sort of) partner because you were like other people. Hell no.
“Do I look like a traffic signal to you?” It had been the very first of your amendments with Bruce. You would not be fighting crime looking like a literal traffic signal or, at best, a clown from Haly’s Circus. And the tiny green shorts had to go. “Or Robin Hood?” The guy had a rather awkward pause where his gun sort of dipped. Killer Moth was looking between you with wide eyes. “Do I?”
“I guess you kinda got a point.” You huffed and he raised his gun again, getting more in-your-face as his already angry-looking helmet somehow managed to look angrier. You weren’t exactly sure how a helmet could convey so much emotion. “But you work with Batman. And I heard you went by Robin.”
Okay, so you couldn’t make him change the name, but you had agreed it would be more of an honorary thing.
“It’s complicated.”
Using such a phrase as an excuse to escape from situations you didn’t want to go into was one of the many things you had learned from Bruce in your five months of training. Somehow, that seemed to trigger the guy further.
“So you do work with Batman.”
Before he could do something actually insane, you had managed to push the gun pointed at your head away from you, using his brief second of surprise to take it out of his hands, kick him in the chest, and round back on him with it in hand.
“And what about it?”
As cool as you thought you might’ve sounded didn’t cover for the fact that you were still nerve-wracked about what was happening right then. Especially after the guy started to dramatically slow-clap like some sort of evil thespian in a high school drama.
“Not bad, Robin. Not bad.” He looked at the gun in your hands and grinned. “If you weren’t Batman’s new replacement sidekick, I might’ve believed you had the balls to use that thing.”
Now, you were an excellent fighter. You had to be, after your excessive training with the guy who had literally mastered about every martial art in existence during his (give or take) five year-long mission to find himself. Plus, some personal experience. But fighting someone like this guy? Built like a tank and padded up in a whole lot of armor and packing an assortment of knives, guns, and even a damn taser you got a first-hand taste of?
You fought hard, but about five minutes and another round of the taser later, you saw the knock-off Iron Man helmet staring down at you before the world went black.
~*~
You woke up in what you assumed was the self-dubbed Red Hood’s safehouse of sorts.
“How the hell did he rope you into this shit?” he demanded with what you could only assume was him glaring at you through the helmet. Probably some expression that made someone look all angsty and annoyed - which was fair, since he had been trying to drill you for information you straight up refused to give while bound (way too tightly) to a chair for quite some time now. Rather rude. “Let me guess. You watched your parents die.” You stared at him before shrugging.
“Nope.”
“Oh, so they just went ahead and died somehow. Untimely accident caused by some psycho bitch in a Spirit Halloween costume.”
“…nope.”
“They abandoned you as a child.”
“No, they didn’t - does divorce count?”
Red Hoodlum’s hands kept clenching and unclenching while he stood there, staring at the wall behind you in silence. From the way his chest kept rising and falling, you were tempted to believe he was practicing breathing exercises amidst his rather violent twitching.
“Divorce - what the hell is your trauma supposed to be? Why did he pick you?!”
“Hey, just because my trauma doesn’t include people dying doesn’t make it any less traumatic,” you scoffed in response, knowing you were absolutely right about that. Your middle school guidance counselor had said so (and it’s true, ladies and gentlemen, trauma comes in many forms!). “Kinda rude to assume it didn’t affect me somehow.”
He seemed rather abashed at that and you heard him clear his throat a little.
“...right, yeah. Sorry.”
“Apology accepted - can you loosen these ropes a little? It’s starting to kinda hurt.”
“Do I look ten? That’s the oldest trick in the book, I’m not gonna-”
“I’m not going to run, just loosen the ropes a little.” He still looked like he didn’t believe you. “Come on, I don’t think I can outrun your guns.” As in his literal array of guns tacked up to the wall behind him, not his gigantic biceps.
And you weren’t too worried about being held hostage by him, either. You figured you had ten minutes tops before Batman burst in through the doorway, ready to give you a lecture on why straying from the specifically designated parts of Gotham he had let you traipse around was a terribly stupid idea.
“No.” He was already walking towards the door, because apparently, he had enough of trying to interrogate you.
“Hold on, I feel like my wrists are actually about to start bleeding or something - where are you going?”
“Keep talking and I’m gonna get the duct tape.”
“Is that a threat?” Sounding more confident than you actually felt should eventually make you more confident. Eventually.
The Red Hood sucked in a breath, stopping by the doorway and turning to face you, reaching into his pockets to get what you assumed was either a gun or duct tape when you both startled from a sudden crash. The man in front of you was already whirling around with two guns positioned to shoot when you heard the familiar voice of someone else.
“Hold your fire, soldier. I’m not here for you.” A pause. “Or I wasn’t, but now I kind of am.”
Apparently, Batman was too busy to save you. Now, you got Nightwing.
And as much as you liked Nightwing, that still kinda stung.

issue #427
This is a formal essay about jason todd as a character written for the mgi civil war event :)
(cw: a little gory?? its dc and specifically jason soo.. be careful)
Jason Todd is a fictional character set in the universe of DC Comics. He is one of the iterations of Robin and a crime boss of Gotham. Considered an anti-hero, Jason is known for taking matters into his own hands. His attitude and confirmed kill count of 83 make him fairly popular within today’s DC fandom and crossovers.
To understand Jason, you have to know his past. Jason is widely considered one of the most traumatized and mistreated characters of DC by most of the fanbase. Jason’s first appearance in the Batman comics is when he is caught by Batman while attempting to steal the tires from the Batmobile in order to pawn them for money, something he had done to several other cars before. However, the Dark Knight catches him and decides to take him to his “good friend” Bruce Wayne who adopts the boy, after learning how his parents were dead. Comics are notorious for not keeping up with continuity, leaving some debate for how old he is when he is taken in, but he is most likely somewhere around 12 years old. Before meeting Jason, Batman (Bruce Wayne) had another sidekick, Dick Grayson, the original Robin. He was an acrobat that Bruce took in after he witnessed the murder of Dick’s parents at the circus (Dick also witnessed this) and decided to prevent him from heading down the same path that Bruce had walked many years before. Around the time that Bruce meets Jason, Dick is fighting with Bruce, leading to him moving out and taking a new mantle, Nightwing, in the city Bludhaven.
In early Batman comics, Bruce is seen being unnecessarily cruel to Dick, going as far to be physically abusive towards the boy. When Jason moves in, he does not receive the same parenting from Bruce, leading to a lot of animosity between the wouldbe brothers. That leaves Jason in a new environment with no allies and nothing but his street training. He is sent to Gotham Academy, a private school filled with the children of the wealthy and upper class population of Gotham. Most of the city heard of the ward from Crime Alley that was adopted by Bruce Wayne, leading to a lot of bullying for the boy. Jason goes on to take the mantle of Robin and becomes the second sidekick to Batman.
The relationship between Bruce and Jason is complicated. Jason is the first son Bruce adopted and was the only one he adopted for a while. Throughout multiple comics and continuities, something happening to Jason, in which he dies, hates Bruce, or gets hurt, is Bruce’s greatest fear. Bruce has done things for Jason that he never did for the rest of his children, one being that he ignored the bat signal because getting Jason back after he was taken from him by the court was more important. Another time, he missed a patrol to spend time with Jason because he was sick. Bruce used to carry a photo of Jason around in his Batman utility belt. Jason’s most precious memory was of the skipped patrol when he was sick and they watched a movie together, though he did give it up during a mission with the Outlaws, a team of morally gray heroes. The two truly care about each other, but after his death, there is a lot of animosity. Both have admitted to pulling punches and throwing fights in an effort not to hurt the other.
DC Comics wanted to do something different with the newest boy wonder, leading them to allow fans to choose the fate of one Jason Todd. They asked the fans to vote whether the boy lived or died. At the end of Batman #427, Jason was left to die in a building. The inside back cover of the issue listed two 1–900 numbers that readers could call to vote for the character's death or survival. Within the 36-hour period allotted for voting, the poll received 10,614 votes. The end results were very close, with a difference of 72 votes, 5,343 votes for him to die to the 5,271 for him to live. The next issue, Batman #428, was published featuring the death of the second Robin. Later on, one writer said it was possible that hundreds of votes in the "Jason Dies" line came from a single person, leading to the realization that they could not use such a poll to quantify a character’s popularity. Among the community, there are rumors that a single person programmed their phone to repeatedly dial the line for Jason’s death over the course of eight hours.
The actual circumstances around his death are even more brutal. Jason Todd was born to Willis Todd and Dr. Sheila Haywood, although Sheila relinquished custody when Willis married Catherine Todd. Catherine was a drug addict and died from an overdose, and Willis, who had once worked for Two-Face, was sent to jail and eventually murdered by the criminal. Jason was not aware that Catherine was not his birth mother and, when he finds out, decides to find her, leading him to Ethiopia. Unbeknownst to him, the Joker, a main rival of Batman, had discovered the identity of Robin, and also found his birth mother, convincing her to work with him. The Joker goes on to viciously beat the fifteen year old Jason with a crowbar and leave him to die in a building rigged with explosives. Joker actually held Jason for a few days, beating him and torturing him mentally by telling him that Batman was not coming for him. Batman does arrive, but only in time to see the building explode. He does retrieve Jason’s body and his end is viewed as the biggest failure, by Bruce himself. Alfred, Bruce’s butler and father figure, says himself that he believes that Jason’s death hurt him more than his own parents’ because he had the ability to stop it. Jason’s last words and thoughts were of Bruce, a thank you and an apology. This isn’t even where Jason’s story ends.
Six months after his death (due to some weird dimension shenanigans involving Superboy) Jason awakes in his coffin, with no memories, and begins screaming for Bruce. He eventually digs himself out with his bare hands, and then collapses outside of the cemetery due to the injuries he received before his death not being healed. For a year, he is in a coma, and wakes with amnesia. He is recognized by a random criminal, who informs Talia Al-Ghul, a previous fling of Bruce Wayne’s, who takes him to the Lazarus Pit, which heals his injuries and returns his memories, while also fracturing his mind and leaving him with Pit Madness. After learning that Bruce allowed the Joker to go free after killing him, Jason decides to avenge himself and begins training with the All-Caste. The group does train him, but they do not support his plan for revenge so he returns to the League of Assassins, before deciding they are boring him, so he heads back to Gotham. Jason makes his return by hijacking a shipment of kryptonium from Black Mask, announcing himself as Red Hood, an old moniker of the Joker’s.
Jason discovers that there is a new Robin, Timothy Drake, and, through Pit Madness and grief, decides to kill him. Jason doesn’t just meet him in the streets. Jason makes a Robin costume, breaks into Titans Tower, and goes berserk on Tim, while venting to him about his feelings. He tells Tim how he resents that he had parents, he tells him how he’s supposed to be the replacement, he’s supposed to be the better Robin, yet Jason is beating him. He knocks Tim out and punches him again after he is on the ground, writing ‘Jason Todd was Here,’ on the walls in what appears to be Tim’s own blood. Jason obviously has a lot of motives in this action, but one is his disdain towards Bruce allowing another child to become Robin. Red Hood goes on to oppose the Bat family and become a crime boss, notorious for not putting up with any misbehavior towards children.
This, and plenty of more complex story lines that would take an eternity to go through, not counting other continuities (like the one where the Joker literally causes Catherine to overdose and sends Willis to jail, just on the off chance Jason could become Robin so Joker could kill him to hurt Batman) are what makes Jason a complex character. He has the means and motives to become one of the worst villains Batman has ever faced, and yet he decides to clean up Gotham, his way. Jason Todd came back from the dead to find that not only had his adoptive father not avenged his death, but he had also given another child the same role that had gotten him killed. Jason holds a lot of resentment towards the entire Batfamily, though for different reasons.
Jason has a very strong sense of justice that is tainted by both his time on the streets and his own death. He thinks that the only way for victims to really get justice is for him to step in. As a street kid, Jason witnessed firsthand how corrupt the police of Gotham City really were, leaving him to have no faith in any portion of the justice system, but at least he still had Batman. His mentor and adoptive father was out on the town, making things right. Yet, when it mattered the most to Jason, Bruce did not avenge him. At one point, Jason is put into Arkham Asylum, believing him to be insane, but the asylum realizes that Jason is, technically, fine, just deciding to clean up the streets in his own way, so they send him to a prison, from which he escapes. To put the cherry on the sundae, after Tim is captured and believed to be killed, Dick Grayson, as Nightwing, goes after Joker, beating him to death. Not only does Bruce try to stop him, he brings the Joker back to life. Jason has every right to want the clown dead, and yet Bruce keeps foiling his plans, despite the pain Joker has caused, not just to him and Jason, but also other members of the Batfamily. Commissioner Gordon’s own daughter, Babs, is paralyzed due to a gunshot wound from the Joker.
After his death, Jason assumes that the reason Bruce got a new Robin and never killed the Joker is that he didn’t love him, while Bruce tells Clayface that Jason knew exactly how much he loved him. The two are really just traumatized and emotionally constipated. In every Batman continuity, Bruce loses Jason because it has become such an important part of the character. Annie is an orphan, Joker is insane, Bruce loses his son. A single person, should rumors be believed, has deeply affected a character so much that every version of that character goes through the same thing, or it just isn’t the same.
Jason Todd is a unique character in many ways, from his death to his life afterwards, the character has made a mark in comics. The complexity of Jason adds to appeal for many newer readers as he is not a perfect hero as some, such as Superman, can seem. He is hurt, he is traumatized, and he is healing, making many young people relate to him more than his siblings. Jason Todd is an outstanding character who has an iconic story both on and off the page.

Can you do yandere bully damian wayne with fem reader how is a 🐺🔥🥋 🛡 🏹 🏠 she is like demon Hunter in Gotham and sometimes batman call for her help with joker/villains and goes to Gotham academy
They Heated each other guts and she tolerated him for her best friend Jonathan Kent
Damian was dating raven how was using him as cashcow
one day in park damian get drugged and kidnapped and reader saw all the and follow there car to save him after killing his kidnappers and heal him she comfront him and tell him everything is going to be alright and give him her jacket (which he will keep it for eternity) she dropped him to his house after buying him something to eat when damian get to his father house he sees the no-one care of what happened to him they saw the he got kidnapped and they didn't care at all but reader did and the how the obsession began
*STATIC*: An Obsessive Love Born From Loathing Hate? A Golddigger, as well? Quite an interesting request we have here, Broken.
Broken Truth: That we do, so let's see what words weave together from this.
Quick Note: The name of the reader shall be Kacela - The name means 'Huntress' and is of African Origin. Just like Damien, she is a rich kid but not because her parents are rich - her human parents abandoned her and she started her own business; it's well-known but not on the same level as Wayne Enterprises.
Broken: SORRY IT'S LATE! I'VE BEEN BUSY!
- THE RUNED HUNTRESS -
[On Top Of Gotham's Rooftops - Across from a besieged Research Facility]
[The Joker was at it again but this time he wasn't working alone - he enlisted the aid of Clayface, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Riddler, and Penguin to take hold of a Research Lab that contained something each member of the crime group wanted; how Joker knew this and managed to use to persuade the villains into working with him is something The Dark Knight couldn't quite figure out. What he did know was that he was going to need some help.]
[At the moment, Damien (Robin)., Dick (Nightwing), and Barbara (Batgirl) were the ones of the Bat-Family that were with him at the moment but the 4 of them weren't going to be enough and - as much as he hated it - he needed aid from a power beyond what his gadgets and training could do.]
Damien (Walks over to Batman, who is standing on the edge looking at the facility): Father, why are we still waiting while those criminals are making a mess of the place?
Bruce: Because we're waiting for someone.
Damien: Who? We have enough people, we can take them.
Bruce: Don't be foolish, Damien. It's the four of us up against seven of Gotham's Worst, plus they have hostages and have access to unknown tech or substances that could put us at a disadvantage. The person I called has abilities unlike our own and can help us a great deal.
[Damien opened his mouth to protest when a smell hit his nose - it smelled like something was burning.]
Dick (Sniff-Sniff): Does anyone else smell something burning.
Barbara: It smells like brimstone.
Bruce: She's here.
[Nightwing opened his mouth to question who 'she' was when a burst of red light from a ball of fire came shooting upward from the edge of the building before falling and landing in the clear space. The ground was scorched from the fire impact and cinders flowed around the air and lined along with the black marks up everyone looked at the person - or creature - that caused it.]
[The creature was large and muscular the body of a wild canine - a wolf - but it stood on 2 legs; except, wolves didn't have 2 horns on their foreheads. The forearms of the beast were scarred with runes that were glowing red against the black fur. The creature began to stand on 2 legs - its height towered over Bruce - and opened its eyes to reveal eyes made from hellfire. The humanoid wolf opened its jaws - letting the hot smoke out - as it began to speak to the Head of the Bat-Family.]
Wolf Creature: Dark One (What she calls Bruce), I'm answering your persistent summons. Why have you decided to bother me this time?
Barbara: Summons? (Looks at Bruce) Bruce, what is that thing?
Wolf Creature (Glares at Barbara): I am not a 'Thing', I am a Wolf Demon while you are the daughter of a cop - playing dress up just to spite him and stick your pointed head where it doesn't belong.
Barbara (Points at the Wolf Creature): Hey, don't call me a...
Bruce (Raises his hand): That's enough. (Looks at the Wolf Creature) Runed Huntress, I know you told me that you're not interested in helping me but this is important. Those criminals have many innocent people captured and are trying to access some very dangerous information and products. Our gadgets can only get us so far but your power is limitless. We need your help.
Runed Huntress (Snorts - making smoke shoot out her nose and blow in Bruce's face): Very well, I shall aid you once again but - as I said before - do not make a habit out of this; you are this city's protector, not me.
Bruce (Nods): Noted. (Turns back to the building) Now, let's get a move on.
[The Bat-Family & The Runed Huntress leaped across the building rooftops until they reached the last roof that sat at the edge of the street that separated the distance of the buildings and the facility. The Bat-Family watches as the large humanoid wolf clapped her hands together and slowly brought them apart - bring a bow that looked as if it was forged from hellfire itself. The Runed Huntress took the bow in hand and did the motion of drawing back an arrow - Damian's eyes widen as an arrow materialized in her clawed hand before she releases it. It goes soar across the street and crashes into the glass dome but doesn't shatter it - it melts it away and forms a large hole, big enough for the rescue party to get inside.]
[The villains looked upon the hole of melted glass as the Bat-Family glided in and stood before the corrupted 7. The Ringleader - The Madman known as Joker - began to chuckle and clap his hands.]
Joker (Clapping): Bats! I knew you would be here! A little late to the party, don't you think?!
Bruce (Glares at Joker): I don't have time to deal with your demented mind, Joker. Release the hostages and turns yourselves in or we can do this the hard way.
Joker (Pouts and shakes his head): Oh, Batsy... Always the party pooper; no cake for you. But in case you have noticed, I outnumber you so...I don't think you can win.
[Just then - the monstrous roaring howl of the Runed Huntress echoed in the hall as she leaped through the giant hole and landed on all fours between Joker and Bruce. She glared at the villains as her jaws opened as lava leaked from the cracks of her fangs, making 2 pools on the tile floor that began to rise and form into 2 clones of herself.]
Runed Huntress (Rising to her feet as the lava clones did the same): Now...it's an even playing field.
[When Killer Croc let loose a hiss, Runed Huntress barked back at him and the two of them charged at each other - fighting as beasts knew how to. Bruce dealt with Joker, Barbara took on Harley Quinn, Dick took care of Riddler, Damian attacked Penguin, while the other two clones took on Clayface and Poison Ivy.]
[The fight ended with the villains in cuffs and loaded into Transportation Trucks, Barbara found the scientists locked in the safe - all accounted for and unharmed, but mentally scarred - Bruce was talking to Gordon while his family looked on. Damian looked off to the side and watched the large wolf walking away and ran after her as she turned into an alleyway.]
Damian: Hey, where are you going?
Runed Huntress (Looks over her large shoulder at the Wayne Family Heir): What do you want, boy? I have aided your leader, that doesn't mean I need to stay around for his talks with the Commissioner.
Damian: Just what the hell is your problem?
Runed Huntress: My 'problems' are none of your concern, Rich Boy.
[Damian opened his mouth to speak but the large beast was engulfed by a flammed vortex that erupted from the ground around her feet and covered her until it exploded into cinders - leaving Damian alone in the alley, looking at the charred circle in the ground.]
- RAVENS LIKE THINGS THAT SPARKLE -
[The Next Day: Gotham High School - Courtyard]
"I gotta go to the library to do some last-minute reading before class starts but before I forget, can I get some cash, Bae?" The Indigo-Eyed Girl asked as she looked upon the Wayne Heir.
"More? I gave you $700 just last week." Damien said as she looked at his girlfriend.
"I know but there's a sell on some rare spell tomes and I didn't want to risk someone else getting their hands on them. o, can you give me some cash?" Raven asked with a tilt of her head like a cat; making the heir exhale.
"Okay, I send another $800." Damien exhaled, earning a kiss on his cheek from the girl how had his heart before she turned and began to walk away.
"Hey, Damien!" Damien turned to see his friend Jonathan Kent walking up to him, but he wasn't alone.
Beside Jonathan was a dark-skinned female around the same height as him with golden eyes in a constant glare, She had short black hair in an undercut - only on her right side. She was wearing the Gotham High School uniform but the man one - she wasn't in comfortable skirts and she had the money to allow this. On her wrists there 2 golden bracelets - long ones that start at her wrists and end further up her forearms - that had some kind of writing on them that Damien didn't care to translate. Why didn't he care? Because he didn't like her.
"Hey." Damien said as he looked in the direction of his friend and...tolerant.
"You good, Bro? You seemed stressed out." Jonathan said with concern in his blue eyes.
"Yeah, I'm fine - Father was telling us that there is some large event tonight and he wants all of us there; no questions asked." Damien said.
"Large event? What's that?" Jonathan asked.
"He talking about Gotham's Angel Award - it's when all of Gotham's CEOs and Walking Wallets gather in one room to see who's been recognized as the most giving and kind." Kacela said as she looked at Jonathan with her arms folded.
"Funny the stray (That's what Damien calls her began she doesn't have parents, relatives, or even a surname.) knows what it is, even though you would never step foot in that place, much less get to hold an invitation." Damien said with a smirk on his face. Imagine his shock as Kacela pulls an invitation to that event from her pocket.
"You were saying, Bird Brain?" Kacela asked with a raised eyebrow and a smirk. Damien began to get mad and Kacela glared at him when Jonathan stepped between them.
"Whoa. Whoa. No need to fight! Just relax, guys." Jonathan said as he looked between her friends. Kacela exhaled and stepped back.
"Fine. I won't fight because Jonathan asked me to." Kacela said as she glared at Damien.
"Same here, Stray." Damien glared at her too before turning back to his phone.
"Whatcha doing, Damian?" Jonathan asked.
"Sending some cash to Raven's card." He said.
"More? Didn't you send her a lot just a few days ago?" Jonathan asked.
"Yes, but there was a book sale and she didn't want to miss out on the rare tomes that were for auction." Damian explained.
"Is that the song she sang to you? For someone so brilliant...you can't even see when you are being played." Kacela said as she placed her hands in her pockets and began to walk away.
"What's that supposed to mean, Stray?"Damian glared at her.
"Just remember - Ravens are fond of things that gleam and shine but they are also creatures that sing songs of deception." Kacela said before she entered the building, leaving Damian and Jonathan standing there.
- THE RAVEN'S DECEPTION & TRAPPED IN THE LION'S DEN -
[After Highschool]
Damian wished his friend a good evening before getting on his motorcycle and driving out of the school's parking lot. He knew that the normal route he would take was going to be caked in traffic for the event tonight and decided to head the long way. He was coming up on the red light at the intersection of 4 famous restaurants/cafes sat at the 4 Corners. He was the first vehicle in line when a familiar voice was heard from the right - he looked and the eyes under his helmet widened when they landed on his girlfriend sitting at an outdoor table with shapeshifter of the Titans - Beast Boy a.k.a Garfield. They were sitting at the table, holding hands and smiling at each other - as if they were in love.
"So, what do you want to do this weekend?" Raven asked.
"I wanna go to the new exotic animal show but tickets to that places are stupidly expensive." Garfield said.
"Don't worry, babe; I got the money from that walking piggy bank, Damian." Raven said.
"You got more? I thought he gave you some a few days ago." He said.
"Yeah, I just told him I spent the money on tomes and he gave me $700 more. All I have to do is pout and he'll give me whatever I want." Raven smirked at the notion and Garfield laughed.
Damian felt so bad about what he just heard - when the car behind him hooked their horn to let him know the light was green, he floored it and began driving down the main streets before the tears in his eyes began to blind him and he stopped on the edge of the park, took his helmet off and hid his face in hands - sobbing; showing the weakness of the Al Ghul.
His heart was broken - the one he loved was using him for a wallet for the shapeshifter and he was too blind to see it. The words Kacela said before she left that day - she was warning him that Raven was disloyal to him. The one he hated was the one who warned him.
He was so caught up in his crying that he didn't see the hooded figure sneaking up behind him and smacking him off the bike with a metal pipe in the back of his head. His world got dark when he heard the words.
"We got Wayne's Brat - we're in for a huge payday, boys." the fading voice chuckled until Damian faded into nothingness of mind.
[Around 2 Hours Later]
"Wake up, pretty boy!" someone commanded as he slapped the Wayne Heir wake - he was tied to a chair in the center of an unknown warehouse with 6 Thugs surrounding him - all of them with weapons in their hands.
"What? What the hell do you want from me?" Damian demanded as he glared at the man who slapped him - only for the same man to punch him in the face; Damian could taste the blood on his tongue before he felt it flowing out of his mouth as he tried to shake the daze from his head.
"We don't want shit from you, brat; we want a payday from Wayne and I know he'll pay huge racks to get his little boy back." The leader said.
"Boss, we've been calling Wayne but he ain't answering." A good said.
"Then keep calling! The sooner we finish this, the better." The boss order. Damian hung his head down - he was done for: his father wasn't answering the phone, his love breaks his heart...just what was he to do
The answer came as the window of the warehouse came crashing inward and a familiar Lycan-Shaped Figure came crashing into the room and landed on the ground on all fours before rising to its hind legs with a very pissed off glare in its eyes - the runes on its body shining in the light.
"What the hell is that?!" One of the Goons said as he tried to get his gun - only to have his head bitten off by the creature's jaws, letting his body hit the floor.
"Kill that thing! Fucking kill it!" The Boss said as he made Damian get to his feet and used his as a human by holding his arm around his neck and hold his gun at the creature that jumped around, slaughtering his men before turning to face him.
"Don't come any closer or I'll blow his brains out!" The boss said as he held the gun against Damian's head.
The Runed Huntress looked at a long metal nail that was sitting between her feet and reached down to gather it in her large clawed hand. Damian and the boss watched as the large wolfish creature twirled the nail between her fingers before flicking it on its head and sent it flying like a bullet - hitting the boss in the center of his head, making them lose his grip on Damian and slump to the ground. The Huntress ran over to Damian before he could fall and gathered him tenderly in her large arm before using the other one to cut his ropes - even free, the boy didn't move, he was too...cold.
"Damian, are you okay? Did they hurt you?" The Runed Huntress asked him as she looked at him with concerned eyes. Damian opened his mouth to speak but he noticed the bracelets on the creature's wrists - he saw them before, he saw them every day during school.
"K...Kacela?" Damian questioned as he looked into the creature's eyes again - there was a sparkle, a smile, then a small vortex of fire that revealed the human face of the one he hated at school.
"I always told you that you were brilliant, just weren't wary of the right people."Kacela said as she took off her jacket from her shoulders and placed it over Damian's, "Wear this, you're freezing." She said.
"You... You saved me? I thought you hated me - after everything I said and did to you." Damian said as he looked into her eyes.
"I never said I hated you, Damian; I said I hated the way you acted. As for saving you, I may have a beast's soul and form but I'm not a heartless monster to just let someone get hurt; not even someone who tries to me." Kacela explained before she turned back into the Runed Huntress, gathered Damian in her arms, and rose to her feet, "Now, let's get you home; you are too cold, you might be sick." she said as she turned on her heel and leaped back through the window she came through with the Wayne Family Heir in her arms.
- THE ONE YOU HATE IS THE ONE WHO CARES THE MOST -
[Wayne Manor]
The Runed Huntress landed in front of the door to Wayne Manor, using one of her hands to knock heavily on the door - it was soon opened by the Wayne Family Butler - Alfred Pennyworth.
"Hello, Madam Huntress, is there something I can help you with?" He then noticed Damian in her arms, "Is that Master Damian? Did something happen?" He asked.
"He was attacked and held for ransom but Bruce never answered the phone and he was harmed." Runed Huntress said.
"That's understandable - Master Bruce and the others are currently getting ready for the event and have asked not to be disturbed." Alfred said, making Kacela's eyes widen in anger.
"What?" She growled out. She pushed past the butler and followed Bruce's scent up the stairs to a meeting room - she barged in and - sure enough to what Alfred said - Bruce, Dick, and Barbara were all there, dressed in elegant attire; they all looked at the large wolf who barged into the room.
"Huntress? Is there something you need?" Bruce said.
"Are you serious, Bruce? Your son is in my arms, beaten & possibly sick, are you're asking me if I need something? Why didn't you answer the calls from Damian's phone?" Kacela asked.
"As Alfred told you, we're busy getting ready for the event." Bruce said.
"He's your son, Bruce Wanye - he was attacked, held for ransom, and beaten up and all you care about is this event? He could be sick, he's as cold as a block of ice." Huntress growled.
"Well, you got to him and saved him before he was hurt too bad, but since he can't come to the event, take him to bed and we will deal with him in the morning." Bruce said as he began walking do the door, past the wolf and his sick son, with his other 2. Kacela growled at him before looking at Damian.
"Where's your room?" She asked, her eyes widened when his hand grabbed her fur and held her close.
"Please... Please, don't leave me here." Damian pleaded - begged - as he tried to hold more tears while shivering.
"There's no way in hell I'm leaving you here. I need to get you some warm clothes." She explained.
Damian told her where his room was and she when there - placing him on the bed for a moment as she gathered pajamas and a new school uniform into the bag before closing it, picking Damian back up, opened the window, and the two of them disappeared into the night.
[Kacela's Loft]
*BEEP - BEEP - BEEP*
"Yeah, just as I thought - you're sick." Kacela said as she pulled the thermometer from the boy's lips and looked at the numbers. Kacela placed it on a napkin on the nightstand that was beside the bed Damian was laying in and the chair she was sitting in. "It seems to be a simple head cold - some medicine and rest should get you and running again, not to mention a good night's rest." Kacela explained.
"How come...you didn't go to the Gotham's Angels Award?" Damian asked as he looked at her with a warm feeling on his face - it must have been the cold.
"That place is full of people who just wanna get seen, not for doing right." Kacela explained before she reached on the nightstand to her phone, "You have to eat something before taking your meds and I don't feel like cooking tonight, so I'll order something. What are you in the mood for - Pizza or Burgers?" Kacela asked.
"What? You're letting me choose?" Damian asked.
"Sure, I don't usually have guests, so why the hell not?" Kacela gave a smile...and the warm feeling returned but it was stronger this time.
When the pizza arrived, Kacela helped Damian sit up, and the two of them ate while having conversations - turned out they had a lot of things in common, from their love of books to their outside activities. Damian asked Kacela a few questions about her knowing Raven was cheating on him and why she didn't tell him directly - she explained that it wasn't her place to speak on another person's relationship, plus he made it very clear that he had a dislike for her so what reason would he have to believe her? Damian apologized for his words but Kacela said she heard worse and wasn't bothered. Just before bedtime, Kacela gave him cold and sleeping medicine so he would be alright in the morning; she stayed with him until he fell into slumber before she went to sleep herself.
When the morning sun rose - Damian woke to the smell of pancakes. Kacela made them breakfast and even made sure Damian's phone was placed on the changer. Damian got dressed in a fresh outfit and went to eat with Kacela; who informed him that she got his bike and helmet from the park after he went to sleep; he thanked her, finished his breakfast, and left out the door...with her jacket.
- NOT SO BLIND ANYMORE -
"What do you mean we're over?!" Raven yelled as she stood before Damian.
"Just as I said - I'm done with you, Raven. You're nothing but a gold-digger and a liar, and you only see me as a mess to keep that green boyfriend of yours happy. I'm not giving you anything else but a hard time if you ever show your face again." Damian glared at her, causing her to huff and march away to the school building.
"Whoa, Damian." Jonathan said as he walked over, "You really broke up with her?" He asked.
"I don't have time for gold-diggers and liars." He looked around, "Where's Kacela?" he asked.
"She called and said... Wait, did you just call her by her name? I thought she was a stray?" He said but swallowed when Damian glared at her.
"Never. Call. Her. That." Damian growled.
"Okay. Okay, man - sorry." He said.
"Now, what did she tell you?" Damian asked.
"She said she couldn't come today - there are some major investors that are interested in her company and want to make a partnership, so she won't be in today." Jonathan said.
"Really? Then, I'll speak to her later." Damian said.
"Talk about what? Wait, isn't that her jacket?" He asked.
"Yes." He said, 'But it's more than just that. It's the start of what Kacela and I shall be...together.'

Time was lost in between bouts of consciousness, flashes of pretty eyes and fire hair,  soft muttering and gentle caresses against his skin soothing his aches.
Jason was caught between heaven and hell, wracked with agony behind his ribs one moment and healed with persistent warmth the next, a never ending cycle.
He wanted to scream.
One bout of semi-clarity was of some citrus concoction on his tongue, gentle murmurs of a woman by his ear before she kissed him again, forced something down his throat again.
He both loved and hated that woman. She felt familiar in a way that made his bat-honed paranoia rear its ugly head, the instinct to survive in his gut a heavy weight, but she brought him peace in the same moment she could damn him.
He caught his name once, his real name, spoken by her as he swallowed dutifully, a spike of want in his heart almost a welcome change from the pain by that point.
————————————————
Jazz spoke with the Lady frequently as the Red Hood, Jason, healed in her bed.
The elder spirit, regal in mannerisms and aura, demanded the Regent to aid this one vigilante, this one knight and Jazz had finally figured out why.
It was so obvious when she had all the puzzle pieces, the depth of occult knowledge both in her brain and at her disposal should have been her first resource used to dig deeper, but she’d allowed Danny and Frostbite to assume (and let her assume) that the Red Hood was an awakened Liminal who was recovering from corrupted Ecto in his system.
The Red Hood had been Jason Todd-Wayne, the second Robin- bright light of Gotham- and he’d been murdered by the Joker.
Unburied in my soil.
Jazz groaned in self-contempt as she paced the graveyard of Gotham’s Crime Alley. It was decrepit and uncared for, not like the higher class cemetery of Gotham proper where the Rich and powerful are buried. She what’s spent the better part of three days researching her new bedmate roommate once he’d been stabilized enough to be on a consistent schedule for ecto-infusion. He’d be unlikely to regain full consciousness for another month or so, but he would recover fully.
That was, if he understood what he had become in his near-fatal collapse.
(Thanks to Jazz and her rash actions.)
The Lady had been cryptic when speaking of Red Hood at first, but with his recovery and development of a strong proto-core Lady Gotham was eager to aid the Regent in making her once Robin adjust to a world-changing consequence once again.
(At least this time he would have support.)
Not only was Jason a Liminal with an indisputable death-claim, he had been a- a Revenant whose continued existence was a mind boggling happenstance of circumstance that was one in a infinite chance of ever happening again.
The Lady claimed him. The Lady gave a bit of herself to resurrect her bright Light, the one who shouldn’t have died so young, not while he deserved happiness for the hope he brought to so many.
(Damn it all.)
He clawed himself out of his own casket, to be found by Talia Al Ghul of all people… then survive the Lazarus Pits in body, with only Pit Madness to show for it?
(It was a callous way to think about it, but Jazz knew that it had also given him his freedom in many ways, that Jason wouldn’t have if he was still just a Revenant.)
(Did the Al Ghul know what she had found that night in dreary Gotham?)
(Was she aware she had given Jason Todd a third chance at life- however much of one being death-claimed by Lady Gotham could be called a life.)
The Lady, wistful once assured in the Regent’s anger having passed, swore an oath that Jason would never be forced to be a Knight again.
(Jazz reveled in the understanding that Batman, Bruce Wayne, was destined to be Gotham Knight for his mortal lifetime- possibly beyond.)
(Had he sworn his fealty by accident in his grief? Or had his donning that ridiculous gimmick been enough of a bind to tie his soul to the Lady?)
(Regardless, for his inaction, Jazz privately reveled in the satisfaction of the true consequences of his choices.)
Jazz, who’d been pacing a strict line in the uneven row of headstones, came to a rest at the grave of the once-Revenant who now lay in her bed.
Jason Todd
He’d been only a year older than her little brother when he’d been murdered by the Joker, buried under a name that was half-complete. He was a Wayne in life, but not in death? How hypocritical of the old bat, to not give him the courtesy of giving him the hyphenated last name if he wasn’t going to bury him in the Wayne cemetery.
What would it have been like if Danny had a grave, complete with a stone and inscription?
(The portal was his grave. He’d died there and the house was his graveyard.)
Would it have been up to Jazz to choose the words to describe her little light, the brightest star in the galaxy, the one reason she had for getting up in the morning… or would her parents have cremated him and put him on a shelf to prevent a corpse from ‘piloting’ his corpse?
(Jazz still had nightmares about Danny’s death scream. The portal ripping him apart in the same moment it fused him back together.)
(Into something different, something more.)
(He was her little brother, the same one who she spent her birthday money on to get those ridiculous glow-in-the-dark stars.)
(They’d spent hours forming constellations on his ceiling.)
How does one paraphrase a life?
Would Jazz start with his name, his preferred name, or with his date of birth?
Would she put down ‘dearest brother’ or ‘missed’, ‘Be at peace’?
No. Jazz knew she’d give the most important pieces of what made her little brother the brightest star in the sky-
Danny, per aspera ad Astra.
Tumblr media
Danny had an unconventional memorial tucked away in the remnants of the Fenton lab, underneath the debris of what was once a strange machine to a world unseen.
The portal was built into the wall with ample access space in the rear for intended maintenance, though it was not required once the portal was completed and functional.
Jazz left flowers for Danny in that maintenance space three days after she first saw his transformation, yellow tulips, though she didn’t know the impact the action would have later in life.
Once a month, Jazz would return to replace the dried flowers, dust away the cobwebs, close the door, rinse and repeat.
Christmas was particularly complicated in the Fenton household, but the first year of Danny’s half-life was the worst Jazz could recall up to that point.
It wasn’t the eerie lack of ghost attacks (thanks to her not knowing of the Truce then), or the winter storm being harsher than any other Amity Park had faced in previous years… No, it was that Danny had died, while nothing and everything changed.
Jack and Maddie still screamed their arguments about Santa Claus, loud and proud for the world to be privy to.
Jazz had extra tutoring to take up for Christmas presents.
Danny… Danny still had to fight a ghost.
Ghostwriter wasn’t a malicious ghost in nature, far from it in fact, but he was never a fan of her little brother.
Jazz overheard Danny tell his friends about his ‘storybook adventure’ and she had to sleep in the access space for the night, just so she didn’t wake anyone with her crying.
It wasn’t right.
That thought repeated on a never-ending loop in her head as she tucked her growing limbs into the cramped space, eyes shut tight and the darkness shrouding her in safety.
(That had been the first nightmare of her own death to come, fingers frantically searching for a pulse as she woke in the dark.)
Perhaps she should have never left that darkness.
Because then the anger that had been building inside of her would never have been unshackled after the release of the tyrant king.
Jazz had been a patient girl her entire life. It was a necessary evil when raised by scientists to follow in their footsteps, though she had no intention to make her life into any imitation of her negligent parents, she learned those lessons at the knee of Maddie Fenton, who had given her life to the pursuit of ecto-science.
(Built a very strange machine to a world unseen.)
When Jazz failed to achieve something, she observed and struck when the opportunity presented it. That’s how she’d survived ghost attacks for so long, escpecially when it was her own dinner- that and the ingrained knowledge to strike hard and quick when it was required. A paradox of a hunter and a hunted, but that was Jasmine Fenton’s upbringing in a nutshell.
Jasmine knew Vladimir Masters was a bigger predator than she was capable of hunting as a young girl.
(Jazz was just a little girl when Vlad became obsessed with her and her mom.)
(Only the dead truly knew what an older man could do to someone so much smaller.)
It was a waiting game that morphed as she grew, bones sturdy and teeth sharper as Ecto-contamination finally settled into her molecules- Death-claimed, Liminality. Vlad was a false halfa, just as he was a false friend to her parents and a false business man, but as long as he stayed out of her way in caring for her little brother than she would not destroy him.
(She was a patient hunter.)
Pariah Dark was the final crack.
(It needed somewhere to go, all that anger, all that rage.)
Jazz had been patrolling the outer limits of the ghost shield now that Amity was returned to the Living Realm, anxiety in her gut as Danny had yet to show from his battle against the tyrant king.
He had obviously won if they were all safe, right? The mech suit would boost him enough, but could it really kill what was already dead?
Hidden in the embrace of familiar shadows, Jazz witnessed Plasmius carrying an unconscious Danny over his shoulder and a…crown in his right hand.
Not only had the bastard released the King for the Crown of Fire, he’d damned them all for the same item he’d stolen in the aftermath.
Jazz’s next actions weren’t borne from Vengeance, they were unfiltered rage.
Tumblr media
Vlad had died that night, Jazz believed wholeheartedly, he died before she locked him in his casket- a since soldered shut Fenton Thermos.
Thing was, Jazz didn’t recall what happened between them- all she could really remember when thinking of that time frame was a green haze that was so similar in color to the damned portal.
One moment, Plasmius had Danny and the Crown. The next, he was a beaten man in his human form with no rise and fall of his chest to convince Jazz he was alive.
Was it concerning? Of course. Jazz never wanted to hurt anyone, especially not in a blackout rage state.
(How times have changed.)
Would she ever mourn Vlad? No. He deserved a far worse fate than a second death.
(His sins were numerous.)
If his casket would later be given to Pandora, the trusted Mentor of the Boy King’s Regent…. Well, where better to keep a body hidden than with a Matriarch who understands the sins of man?
(Pandora had always believed in Jazz, the Regent’s soul was far too bright to be snuffed out without a war.)
Tumblr media
Within the Infinite Realms, the Regent was called many things- titles that held little meaning to the one in question, but offered weight to her authority.
The Lady of the Acropolis, for her mentorship with Pandora and position of respect among the populace.
First Knight of the Star King, would be granted once her Regency was over and Danny was crowned. His epithet as ‘Star King’ was a beautiful homage of a lost dream.
Death-Claimed Champion.
It made the Regent grit her teeth when addressed as such, especially when she lived in Gotham presently- the city of Lady Gotham’s Knights… her Champions.
Jazz had survived to adulthood as a highly contaminated Liminal, no patron to claim as her- Not even Pandora counted even though they shared a teacher/student relationship.
Would Jason, Red Hood of the Alley, be able to handle managing his territory without the backing of a patron claim? The Lady did swear that the once-Revenant was no longer bound to her service, which meant he could pack up his gear forever if he wanted to.
Though that was highly doubtful.
Jason was a strong willed man to lay claim to his haunt so quickly and hold fast for so long. Jazz shared her haunt with Danny, but that was only because he was the powerful Halfa and future King. His Haunt would never be challenged by a competent opponent, not in Gotham at least.
Perhaps Jason would be willing to unite their haunts?
It was a common tradition for older ghosts to allow weaker ones to share their haunt for protection, but that didn’t translate well to the Death-Claimed.
(Jazz had a hunch that Jason was so in tune with his haunt that he instinctively knew when she or Danny stepped foot across his boundary.)
(They tried not to linger, out of respect of another’s haunt of course.)
Then again, Jason was the Baby Liminal between the two of them. Danny and Jazz should be offering him to share a haunt for protection.
(Jazz couldn’t help but wonder what Jason looked like as a child.)
(She would bet almost anything that he was an adorable kid.)
(Would their kids be so cute?)
Tumblr media
There was a slight lilt of sadness that lingered over the daytime hero, Signal, that Danny almost choked on his Death Wish.
The coffee, that is.
Little late on the literal bit.
Gotham (city, not the Lady) was an ever-gloomy fruit basket full of ghastly vibes. You see it and you know you’re in for a bad time, but that’s typically at night.
So what was up with Sunshine Child?
Yeah, he was clearly human and allowed to have off days, duh, but for it to hang like a shroud of storm clouds over Sunny? Yeah, no. That shit needs to be gone, like yesterday.
“Hey, Sunshine!” Danny called out with a false cheer. It was too damn early in the morning for real cheer, are you mad, but Signal didn’t seem to notice as he approached the lawn chair the Halfa had decided would be his new throne.
(At least Jazz would find it funny.)
“Hi Danny. Can I help you with something?”
Danny took a loud sip of his coffee before he went straight for the throat, “You’re doom and gloom this morning, Sunny. Whose bones do I need ‘ta steal?”
“No, no, it’s fine. Just…” the meta Hero trailed off, voice tired as he let himself relax for a moment in Danny’s presence.
(That’s right, Danny’s just a friendly civilian teenager with anger issues, right?)
(Oh he would be cackling at that lie when he had a moment to himself again.)
“My brother is missing.”
Danny blinked.
“Your brother? One of the birdies?” He tried very hard not to pull out any of his jokes about traffic lights and Stabby Robin, but at least he didn’t sound condescending?
“Sorta. Red Hood… he went off grid about a week and a half ago.”
(Yeah this isn’t something Danny should be privy to.)
(Like at all.)
(It’s not like he was housing the guy in his home right?)
(Oh wait.)
“Yikes, Sunny. That sucks, ‘m sorry.”
Signal sighed, “Yeah, thanks Danny.” He paused again, studying the canonical adoption bait that was Danny Fenton before he dropped a bombshell.
“Batman thinks he’s dead.”
(Danny almost cackled in manic glee at that statement.)
(Overshot the mark there, Bats. Yikes.)
Tumblr media
Danny happily waved goodbye to his meta friend, a dorky salute with his coffee cup in commersiation of a shitty hour of the day to be awake, before he leaned back in his lawn chair and yawned.
“Oh, what drama. Jazz is gonna kill me all the way if she finds out.” He said out loud to no one in particular. The occasional shade that kept him company didn’t bother to move at the sound of his voice now that Signal had left, but it did let out a mournful trill that made Dannny chuckle.
“Yeah, yep, you’re right- when, when, Jazz finds out.” Danny laughed again, “Worth it.”
Tumblr media
A/N:
Yeah, I wasn't expecting so much angst either, but apparently, that's my jam, because I literally cannot write anything else. Well, anything that doesn't sound like two robots trying to mimic humans at least.
This was supposed to be a more upbeat entry and look how epically I failed. I had to put a content warning up top because I wrote/heavily implied that Jazz was abused by Vlad due to his obsession with Maddie.
In other news, I have a playlist now for what songs I listen to while writing this. It's called 'Guns & Sword: Jazz on' 'cause 2am me thinks she's clever.

Jason x Superman's daughter!reader
Request: Hi can i request a jason todd x reader where reader is a daughter of a hero and defends jason infront of the jl by @illzarr
(A/N): You didn't specify if you wanted them to be a couple or not but I made them one, hope that's okay :) Also I made it Superman's daughter.
Tags: @redhoodieone @avengerdragoness @comic-nerd-dc
Keys: (Y/N): Your Name (Y/S/N): Your Superhero Name
Word Count: 1,381
Warning(s): Cursing, arguing, mention of child abuse, talking about Jason's death, league may be a bit rude and ignorant when it comes to Red Hood, also a bit insensitive
**********************************************
Being on The Watchtower wasn't something Jason liked doing, especially since he wasn't Robin anymore. As Robin it was fun and he liked it but after everything it wasn't a fun experience. Red Hood isn't seen as a hero in the hero community like he is down in Crime Alley. Moral codes got in the way of that.
How the hell Jason got (Y/N) Kent or (Y/S/N) he has no idea, no fucking clue. Why did Clark allow it you may ask? He did not, he doesn't know, good thing Jason carries Kryptonite around, he's not dying a second time to Superman.
Jason doesn't even really know why he was called to this mission, it wasn't hard and they wouldn't need backup so he was a bit on guard because of that. He was walking with his Nightwing, his brother of all people, to this meeting that Jason is pretty sure isn't a meeting. Jason's pretty sure he's getting set up but he was going with it for now, well somewhat.
"Wing, you need to tell me right now, am I getting set up?" Jason asked him.
"I'm not going to take you to get arrested, Hood. If I wanted that it would've happened a long time ago." Dick let out a laugh.
"Wow thanks, glad to know you don't want me in prison." Jason joked. "But actually, this isn't a mission is it?"
"To be honest, I wasn't told anything either. So I honestly don't know." Dick replied.
"Okay, now I know it's not a mission. They were prepared for me to ask questions so they didn't tell you anything." Jason sighed. "Guess I'm arguing with somebody today."
Dick shrugged and they continued on their way to the conference room. That conversation didn't give Jason any information at all. They arrived in the conference room a few minutes later and everyone was there, already waiting for them. There was a seat for Jason at the table between Diana and (Y/N), Jason cautiously walked up and sat in the chair while Dick walked around to sit next to Bruce and Clark.
"Now that we're all here we can get started. So, it's not really a mission." Superman said. Jason's suspicions were confirmed.
"I had a feeling, so why am I here?" Jason sighed.
"Think of this as sort of an intervention, Batman has no say in anything we've done and he cannot stop it." Diana said.
"Intervention for what?" Jason asked confused.
"Your actions as the Red Hood." Clark replied.
"If this is about killing I haven't killed anyone in the past year, bats already beat you to that "intervention" a while ago." Jason said with finger quotations.
"Not just the killing, there's a lot of younger heros that look up to you and you're too aggressive out in the field." Diana explained vaguely.
"But yes mostly the killing." Flash said.
"I didn't sign up to be a role model, that's not my fault. All I do is mind my business and do my job, I don't think that's a need for an intervention." Jason replied.
"Okay, let's talk to Jason instead of Red Hood, drop the persona." Superman said. "Clark to Jason."
"Sorry but Jason isn't any different, I think the person you're looking for died in a warehouse 8 years ago." Jason replied, Clark flinched a bit at that remark. "Just spit it the fuck out, why exactly am I here?"
"They don't like the way you act and work down in Gotham like they have any authority down there in the first place." (Y/N) said from her place next to Jason.
"(Y/N)." Clark warned.
"No, all you guys ever do when he's here is criticize like you have authority over him. Well guess fucking what, you don't. He's a grown man who can make his own decisions and you're not his family. Maybe you were considered so at one point but in my opinion you lost that privilege a long time ago!" She exclaimed to all of them.
"(Y/N) you don't hav-." Jason started but she cut him off standing out of her chair.
"No! I do! I'm sick of all of you trying to change who the Red Hood is! Just because he has a different moral code? Also did you know that he's never once killed an innocent person? Did you know Red Hood has only ever killed murderers, rapists, child molesters, because I don't know about you but those people don't deserve to be breathing in my opinion anyway." She said darkly then turned to Jason and talked softly. "They brought you up here because Joker is dead but they wanted to know if you did it or not. They wanted to see if they could make you say it without straight out asking you."
"He's dead? When? Who?" Jason asked quietly in shock.
"We were hoping you knew." Green Lantern said with a bit of sarcasm in his voice.
"If I was never stopped he would've been dead a long time ago. But no I didn't kill him, I wish I did but nope." Jason was keeping himself composed from the shock.
"Okay, he didn't kill him, like I told you many times. But you wanted to know how I knew so you know what I'll tell you. I was with him for the past 2 weeks every single night and day. He's my boyfriend and he's the most kind hearted, hard working, strongest and intelligent man I've ever met. I've never been treated with such respect and love so I'm not going to sit here and let you tear him a part in lectures anymore. He does too much good down in Crime Alley to deserve it." She said strongly to everyone in the room. Bruce sent her a nod because he's glad Jason has her.
"Oh really, what good has he done?" Green Arrow said.
"When was the last time you guys gave out food to street kids or an orphanage? How many of you guys help kids with homework or the kids who have to cover bruises on their arms or legs while at school? When was the last time you gave a sexual assault victim peace of mind knowing their attacker can't hurt them anymore? When was the last time you worked your asses off every single night to bring kidnapped children home from a trafficking ring? Probably never for most of you but Jason does it every single day while dealing with his own demons up in his mind because guess what he's gone through literal hell and back and that shit ain't easy!" She exclaimed more. "C'mon babe, you have no reason to be up here. Let's go home."
She grabbed his hand after they both stood up and they walked out of the room. They left everyone in the room including her father who didn't know what to think.
"That's three bats now somehow involved with my family." Clark sighed.
"It's not fun from my side either, Clark." Bruce replied standing up. "Also don't ever call a meeting to do with any of my children again. Especially not Jason, he deals with enough already and you have no authority over Gotham so your input on my city is not accepted. Leave my family and my city out of League business, this meeting is over."
Batman is scary but Batdad is scarier.
When Jason and (Y/N) got to his apartment they changed out of their gear and into sweats and comfy clothes.
"You didn't have to do that you know." Jason said wrapping his arms around her from behind while in their bedroom looking out the window.
"I did, I know you won't defend yourself with actual facts and would likely turn to anger to protect yourself so as your girlfriend I decided I'd take it upon myself to protect you the way you try to protect me, even though I'm Kryptonian." She replied. Jason huffed a laugh because he does do that even though she doesn't need it.
"I love you." Jason told her kissing the side of her head.
"I love you too." She replied and turned to give him a real kiss.
They'd deal with Superman later.
****************************************
Hi, I haven't wrote is fic in a long time but here this is. I'm still doing the Jason x Bermudian!reader I'm sorry that's taking so long. But I love you guys and hopefully I'll be more active on here :) <3 (Also I couldn't think of a title lol)

Tim's origin but with a little more SPICE:
It's been weeks since Tim started following Batman. When he began, it was with a determination to help right a wrong, to help his heroes in some way during this trying times.
Who'd have thought that seeing your city's hero repeatedly beat up petty criminals to pulps was a traumatizing experience for a thirteen year old. What courage he'd gained to do something, had been steadily chipped away and Tim is now in an impasse.
Taking pictures. Documenting the man's decent. And, if he was honest with himself.... well, it's looking more and more like evidence.
Evidence against Batman.
Oh my god.
Tim is both a stalker and a clean-up crew simultaneously, he feels like. But rather feeling good at being helpful to heroes, this feels more akin to helping cover up. Even though he isn't.
If anything, calling ambulances to report Batman's victims is the opposite. Tim feels acutely aware of how Batman's ledger is filling up. Records being taken and, therefore, evidence piling up.
It's all evidence, everything is, if you use it the right way. That's what Tim has learned following Batman's cases -not that it's ever under his name seeing as he is a vigilante and finding which ones have his style is detective work in itself.
This time though, it's different.
Oh god it's different, Tim feels himself panicking, wondering what was different that was making him even more vicious than he usually already is.
Not his parent's death anniversary. Or their anniversary. Not Harvey's turning either.
Way too soon to be Jason's death anniversary. Not his birthday either.
Tim wracked his mind trying to figure out what made this petty car jacker special. Different. Worse.
Tim press his back on the filthy rooftop, hands over his mouth, blinking tears from his eyes, listening to a stranger beg mercy from a.... hero? A criminal disguised as a hero? A villain disguised as a hero?
A grieving man.
Later, Tim will wonder what he could've done better; many things.
If he'd just moved immediately after Batman left, if his legs would've stopped shaking sooner, if he swallowed his bile, if he. Just. Moved.
If he hadn't waited seconds and then minutes after hearing the silence, then maybe...
The man is dead.
Or, he's dying.
Tim had called the ambulance, stumbled his way down the fire exit, and discovered the man fading.
Tim was too shocked to have the mind to exit the premises before the medics arrived.
He shouldn't have been.
He KNEW Batman was getting worse and worse. He didn't stop earlier, hadn't given up the mantle when his son died, he's not going to do it now. There was only one way to go now from there. Down.
Worse and worse until it's the worst.
They got the man back again.
Tim curls up in his seat in the ambulance. Watching.
Tim curls up in his seat in the hospital, barred from the operating room. Listening.
The man flatlined two more times -three all in all-, that's what he'd gathered from hushed whispers he can barely hear in the natural bustle of a hospital. 'Three times the charm' they say. Tim wonders in what way, in this case. Someone gives him a hot cocoa together with the blanket he'd been wrapped in by the first responders.
Someone's going to ask him questions, they say. They're just late a bit, they say.
Typical.
Tim would be gone before anyone arrives. If nothing else, his parents finding out about any of this, is enough to knock some sense into him. He doesn't know them that well, but at the very least, anyone even remotely sane would be Displeased with a capital D.
So he knows he shouldn't have, but he needed to go home. And he needed to see him before or he's not getting any sleep.
Tim sneaks into the room, sees the man attached to tubes and a heart monitor. He's alive. Barely. But he is.
Tim goes home and can't sleep.
The next day, he visits.
He doesn't even attempt the front desk and just walks in as if he'd just gone out for some air five minutes ago. He's sweating cold sweat the whole time.
He's not lying, he tells himself. He can't lie if no one's asking. It's fine. Everything's fine.
Except everything, you know.
Tim is shocked to find the man conscious. He almost runs back out but the man calls out a faint 'hey'.
He can't talk much, too damaged to do so. He doesn't ask Tim's name or what the hell he's doing there. Just asked him to pray for him.
Tim has never prayed a day in his life. He looks it up on Waynet.
Anxiously glancing at the door as he reads and recites as instructed.
Then the man talks about a sick brother. An overworked sister. If he can check up on them, please.
Tim has no idea why he'd ask a kid that, a stranger to boot, but he figures thirteen year olds from Crime Alley were just a different breed. It was nice watching and admiring from afar, but Tim can't imagine doing any of the death defying stunts Jason did on the regular.
Tim can't help repeating his name in his head though. His and his sister and brother.
He checks on them and returns to tell the man that they were alive and Tim also just signed them up for weekly groceries and medicine from his not inconsiderable allowance. No matter what walk of life you are, Tim at least knows that unsolicited help are usually unsolicited for a reason so he's not going to push. Much.
He was already there, you can't expect him not to do anything.
The man died.
They're trying to revive him again.
Tim can't bring himself to stay.
(To wait until the name Derek is written beside a time and date in one of those medical bracelets he'd never thought to ask the name of.)
But he makes a silent promise.
He's going to stop this.
Tim is going to do something.
Naturally, as any law-abiding thirteen year old, by 'doing something' his first thoughts are calling the authorities to sic them on Wayne manor with all the photos, and now evidence, he'd collected through the years.
Yeah, Tim chickened out.
Because reviewing all the photos, Batman is crying.
Crying while he beat up young men who are older brothers, but crying. Batman is broken.
In the past, if someone or something in Gotham is broken, you know Batman and Robin will be on it.
Robin has been shattered and Batman is broken. Who will be 'on it' this time? When the heroes need heroes, who will be there to catch them?
So. Yeah.
Plan B, is to give Batman time to recover. Preferably without Batman. Batman is justice and vengeance and the violence the police can't deal out. Violence for the greater good, but violence. That can easily go overboard, as he'd repeatedly witnessed.
There used to be less violence and more talking. When Batman had a Robin to be mindful of.
Tim needed Bruce to quit Batman.
Somehow without inadvertently burning down Gotham with supervillains let loose. Maybe a vacation. Tim can... convince him to go on a hiatus. There are times when the dark night go one JL missions and the Bats seems to have a system to prevent spikes in crime activities.
Mostly involving Batgirl, Robin, and -to a much lesser extent- Nightwing.
Batgirl is out of commission in what he suspects might be related to Barbara Gordon's injury, though he hasn't had time to confirm it.
Robin is... well.
Nightwing is MIA.
..... Tim will deal with it when the time comes.
The time doesn't come because... well, simply put, no one answered the door. Probably thinking it's more paparazzi -he'd seen the hordes and then regular pesters- so yeah, Tim understands. It's fine.
It's fine.
..... really, it is.
Tim does NOT visit the hospital.
He deactivates the program he'd spent the better part of the day before researching and copy pasting codes that would've sent a timer of five minutes from when activated that, if he didn't regularly enter the code, would automatically send all his pictures to every major news outlet in the entire country.
Clearly, Tim can't do this on his own. In fact, he's been getting a feeling that he shouldn't do this on his own.
Okay.
So if he was Dick Grayson, where would he retreat to grieve his little brother's sudden death.
......... how much is the bus fair again. Would a hundred be enough?
He'll bike it.
For the road trip pack, he's thinking a bag of lays. He'll stab it to get the air out and to be able to fit more in the bag.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Tim close the door behind him, relaxing in the car seat with a sigh. Working in a company was exactly how he'd thought it'd be as a kid.
Something he'd rather not be doing. When was the last time he'd held a camera? Even just his phone camera? That doesn't involve recording evidence in the mask.
"Where to, Mr. Drake-Wayne?"
"Ermmgrgfdbcfb..."
"The penthouse then, after a short driveway. Red Robin or Burger King?"
"Yum."
"Yes sir."
Tim gathers just enough energy to lift his head to look at car mirror, "Thanks Derek. You're the only one who ever understands me."
"I'm sure Mr. Grayson would disagree."
"Disagree all he wants. He gave me the wrong donut once."

A lot of people probably are gonna hate me for this, and if you disagree with what I’m about to say, please don't bother to respond, just ignore me completely and move on, go make yourself happy.
It’s just that I honestly don't see how this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
can be the same as this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Personally, I don't care for Dick-lite Pre-Crisis Jason at all, because he’s never seemed to me a real character with any real personality of his own, and I just really don’t buy the idea of a teenager, with still very recently murdered parents that might as well be every bit as the same kind of loving parents and positive influences to their kid as the Flying Graysons, getting over the loss of their old parents’ and accepting someone they’ve only just met around the time their parents died as his true new parent in practically no time at all...especially when it’s happened in a world where a preteen could end up spending the rest of his adulthood fighting crimes in a bat suit after witnessing his parents being gunned down by a mugger.
The only thing Pre-Crisis/Earth 1 Jason Robin seemed to have going on was being a son to Batman/Bruce (and a son to Nocturna, because clearly if he could’ve gotten over his real dad so easily, why wouldn’t he have also gotten over his real mom and come to think of this mysterious criminal lady as his true new mom when she had wanted so much for him to be her son and they had lived together for like a week)--and I feel that if the executives at the time had really wanted Bruce to become a dad, they'd probably just let him settle down and give him a biological child as in the Golden Age, but instead they gave him a second Robin; and the way they laid themselves out to make the relationship between him and this second Robin to be exactly father-and-son despite the fact that Bruce would’ve had to be real stupid to actively endangering a young person whom he consider his own little boy by bringing him to fight crimes just never sits right with me.
It always seems to me like they’re just trying to retcon the original Batman and Robin relationship without actually retconning Bruce and Dick, who hadn’t really been Bruce’s adopted kid just then and had often regarded his mentor Bruce as more of his older brother/closest friend rather than just plain old “dad”--It’s like they’re just trying to remove every implication that there's ever anything gay/creepy in the original Batman and Robin dynamic, simply by bringing in another Robin character, one with the exact same backstory as Dick and nothing that could actually differentiate him from Dick (except him being originally blond-haired and himself outright telling people that he’s “not Dick” in one of his few featurings in the New Titans where he’s portrayed as every bit as much as a smart, decent, capable young person equipped to be a successful young hero just as Dick Robin or Tim Robin would’ve easily been portrayed), and making his relationship with Batman to be plainly, unequivocally father-and-son, then with there being no actual difference between Robin II and Robin I and the two Robins being virtually the same, sure the viewers would see that the relationship between Batman and Robin II and the relationship between Batman and Robin I are very much the same too, and no one could say if there’s any resemblance of a gay couple with a creepy age difference in the original Batman and Robin’s dynamic ever again since they’ve always been father and son.
It just feels so manipulative to me and I hate it, but that’s just how I feel and I’m not saying that it’s truly the case. I’m sorry if this offends anyone who loves Earth 1 Jason. If you love him, that’s great. There’s nothing wrong to love a wholesome Robin and his altogether wholesome relationship with Batman, nor there’s anything wrong to love Red Hood Jason but prefer his softer New52 version which would’ve certainly seemed to be a less drastic change from his Pre52 version if he’s more like his Earth 1 counterpart to begin with.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong to prefer one version of a character to another, to just say fuck canon and recreate a character you love into the way you could enjoy them most and have all the fun you want with them.
What gets to me and drives me bonkers, is when people couldn’t just be happy with their headcanon, but have to go out of their way to tell other people that it’s fact that Pre-Crsis/Earth 1 Jason and Post-Crisis/New Earth Jason are the same character, while in actuality, they weren’t even meant to be the same in the first place.
If DC had ever wanted to just keep using Pre-Crisis Jason but give him a new backstory, they would just follow up on whatever he had been doing with Bruce as his pre-crisis self while casually throwing in his new backstory at some point, just as they did with a lot of other characters such as Donna post-crisis, not give him a full reintroduction in Batman #408 and rewrite his relationship with Bruce from the ground up.
It just makes me want to scream, when people, who never seems to have a lot of problems with Under the Hood and maybe also Lost Days, have to go out and call every portrayal of Pre-52 Jason and some of the more recent Red Hood Jason that shares a resemblance to him wrong for not portraying Jason as that sweet little bookworm he really truly was, and that an entire different life experience just cannot change a character in any substantial way, and Jason being an angry kid with aggressive and violent tendencies is just something that had never been established until the more recent retcon/the OOC work of Jim Starlin, while in truth Pre-Crisis Jason with the exact same backstory as Dick just simply cannot be the same as Crime Alley Kid Jason, who doesn’t even have the same biological parents as Pre-Crisis Jason to provide him with the same gene that the Flying Todds, which were Joe and Trina Todd, had created their son with.
If Pre-Crisis Jason and Post-Crisis Jason are one and the same, then it’d mean Dick is also very much the same as Jason is the same as Tim is the same as Damian is the same as Bruce and no one character is truly unique and special because every character ever made is just an alternate version of another character.
It had been shown most clearly since his first appearance that Post-Crisis/New Earth Jason, other than literally being a different kid with the same name, was nothing like his pre-crisis counterpart, but rather a bold, outspoken, confrontational, fully independent and proactive ghetto kid, who had got some serious stones to rob Batman’s gear, actually succeed in taking the tire off the freaking Batmobile and getting away originally, and had only run into Batman when he had come back to steal more, and called Batman a “big boob” after he had given him a good hit right in his Bat stomach.

↑...that was often used as a proof that the NE Angry Robin Jason is a later retcon/ mere misconception had actually only ever existed in Detective Comics #569-573 during the earlier part of the writer Mike Barr’s run. These 5 issues from Barr are all notably 60s-ish, and while they’re published after CoIE and Batman Year one, it’s clear that they’re Earth 1 stories, seeing that they’re written with characters such as Earth 1 Catwoman. It was only in #574 that Jason’s New Earth origin was first introduced in Detective Comics, right before Batman Year Two; and although the issue was still written by Mike Barr and it did seem to have followed directly after #573, the previous issue was ended with the caption of “The New Origin of Batman”, and the tone of #574 as well as the writer’s latter issues and his portrayal of Jason Robin were no longer the same.

It was stated by Bruce repeatedly, in both his own title and Detective Comics, that the reason he had taken in NE Jason as his new Robin was to save him from walking down the wrong path and to provide an outlet for his rage.

While no doubt Jim Starlin’s NE Jason Robin (that everyone hates) was the most aggressive and violent, it had never contradicted how the character was initially written by Max Allen Collins, the writer of Batman #408.

↑ Batman #411 by Collins, after Jason had found out that Willis was murdered by Two-Face and Bruce had been hiding the information from him ↑
Although in the end of Batman #411, Jason did seem to have gotten over his anger and saved Two-Face’s life, judging by the way he’d talked about his dad Willis in his first introduction and the fact that he’d never before bothered to find out what had happened to the man the whole time while he’s in the manor where he had all the resources to acquire the information, it was doubtful that he and Willis had had a good relationship, and what he’d felt for his crook dad then could hardly be the same as what he felt later in “The Diplomat’s Son” story.
NE Jason had always been consistent in being a fearless, proactive, feisty individual with a hot temper, even in the hand of a writer with a much mellower sense of writing like Mike Barr.

↑ Jason and Bruce encountered Two-Face again in Detective Comics #580-581 by Barrs ↑
It had been established from the get-go that NE Jason Robin was the type of kid who would challenge Batman and go out handling a criminal on his own without consulting him or anyone else first, and was morally questionable with tendencies to aggression and violence, which was perfectly understandable for someone with his background--Only at the beginning it’s easy to brush these things off, because there's never any real consequence to his behavior and so Bruce was okay when he’d behaved this way at the beginning, and since Jason’d still got a lot to learn and was eager to learn from Bruce at the beginning, it would only be right that he’s more agreeable and willing to obey Bruce, but once he had completed his training and been allowed on the field, it would also only be right for him to feel like he had learnt enough and gotten the hang of the business already, and so just easily slipped into his old habit of handling things on his own, just as he had always been while he had been surviving in the Crime Alley on his own before Bruce came along.
NE Jason Robin wasn’t suddenly turned from 0-100 in The Diplomat’s Son story (though I really doubt that it’d be impossible for someone, especially someone around Jason’s age, to go from 0-100 if they have to deal with what Jason had dealt with in the story)--

↓ This didn’t happen until after the diplomat’s son was let go by the police due to his status, and on his way out of the police station where he’d been initially brought in by Jason and Bruce for raping and kidnapping an innocent woman, the mofo called his victim right in front of Jason and Bruce and threatened her on the phone, which led the woman to immediately commit suicide.

I’ve always thought it’s a good story and a lot more tasteful than it’s usually given credit for. It wouldn’t even have been the first time a “teenage superhero” has killed in the DCU (whether it was accidental or intentional); it’s certainly not something so dark and controversial that DC wouldn’t go for it, they could’ve easily just gone for it and had Jason Robin murder a criminal then, except they never really showed that he did. The audience just naturally assumed that he did because the whole scene was shown through Bruce’s view, and Bruce could see that even if Jason didn’t really kill the rapist then, he might very well be capable of it, and it makes the whole Under the Hood storyline as well as the continuation of Red Hood Jason possible.
The concept of Under the Hood and the continuing existence of Red Hood Jason works, instead of just being a complete character assassination like One-Year-Later Cass, only with Jason being his post-crisis version with all of his very established traits and his very established problems with Bruce.
If Under the Hood Jason is indeed Earth 1 Jason or similar to him, he would really need to be under some outside influence for him to do the things he had done, for there’s just no other justification for his action.
He would really have to be driven mad by the effect of the Lazarus Pit (which has only ever been showed to exist momentarily on other characters), he would have to be incapacitated the whole time, unable to control his own action or even form any conscious decision--and it would only make it extremely possible for him to do something truly awful such as killing some innocent or other heroes or even someone in the Batfam, since he wouldn’t be able to stop himself even if he wanted to, or be able to tell if that’s wrong; that’s what being incapacitated means, that’s why people who’s committed crimes, even as bad as murders, cannot be held legally accountable when they’re proven to be mentally ill--and if that’s truly the case, then Bruce as well as Dick (who had a pretty amicable relationship with Earth 1 Jason) and everybody else who has any knowledge about the matter would all have to be some real awful persons to not lift a finger to help him, by making it a point to stop him from committing any more murder that he wouldn’t have committed if he could help it, and figuring out a way to relieve him from the influence by means of the various science and magic overflowing in their world, like they’ve repeatedly done for many others who’ve been in the similar position, and eventually getting him the hell out of this altogether traumatic crime-fighting life, so he could finally begin to heal from his extensive traumas, including being forced to kill which has always been a very common cause of PTSD for soldiers at war; and even if Jason doesn’t leave the crime-fighting life forever, he could no longer continue operating as the Red Hood; it’d just make no sense for him to keep up the identity previously belonged to his murderer, and have it constantly remind him of how he didn’t just get brutally murdered, he was also forced into becoming a murderer himself, which.he never would’ve become if he wasn’t literally out of his mind.
Moreover, there could never have been a Tim Robin (even if Tim didn’t go by Robin but something else), if the Jason who died in A Death in the Family had the same disposition as Earth 1 Jason and none of his NE traits which was the one and only justification Bruce had for taking in Tim as his third teenage partner, seeing that Tim is patient and careful and cooperative with all the qualities to become the same kind of hero like Dick, and not at all “reckless” and “rebellious” like NE Jason, and so he’s likely to turn out like Dick and not get himself killed like Jason (that’s the only true significant retcon Pre52 Jason had. Although NE Jason Robin could be rather reckless and rebellious, that’s certainly not why he had gotten killed. They just made Bruce and everyone pretend that that’s what killed him, so it wouldn’t seem so utterly horrible for Bruce to endanger another teenage kid with no superpower or any previous fighting training by bringing them in the business that had already gotten one kid killed, and also for Dick and everyone else to just let him).
It’s a complete disregard of facts and logic to call Earth 1 Jason and Red Hood Jason the same character, which doesn’t really matter as long as it’s only headcanon; but when people push it as a fact, it really just sound to me like they’re saying that it’s wrong to like Pre 52 Jason/Post-Crisis Jason Robin, which I very much do because I actually think he’s an interesting character with an interesting and more coherent story than a lot of other DC characters.
It’s like they’re saying that it’s just plain wrong and unnatural for a person to have aggressive and violent tendencies and be inclined to criminal behavior simply because they had grown up in a most crime-infested place and had to rely on themselves and learned to do what it takes to survive since before twelve, or become more and more violent simply because they’ve been made to work in an extremely violent environment and have never been provided with any kind of actual aid for their mental health the entire time.
It’s like that if a person, after being brutally murdered and then coming back to find that their mentor/guardian who was the closest thing they had to a family and was also responsible for their death in a major way just didn’t seem to be giving any shit about that at all, is filled with such murderous rage that they could very well just go out and kill a bunch of criminals, but they aren’t actually a smol whump baby with no absolutely agency of their own that must be protected at all times all along, then they’re just no good at all and don’t deserve any love or respect or understanding.
...I don’t like myself for ranting about this. I hope I could just not give any shit about this dumb thing, but it’d been driving me crazy and I’d just got to let it out.
