Okay Tumblr ghesties, I have a Thing that is useless to many but may prove HelpfulTM to some

So have my (not) comprehensive list of ghouls in the band (I KNOW I'm missing some, I've been a fan for ages, I'm trying my best here and thie random is confusing as hell so this is definitely subject to possibly be wrong in lots of ways, especially dates-wise and im bad with remembering when eras ended so yk)

Also I'm going by the years they were in the band, not the eras

But I will have when the eras started/ended down below too to help

You'll notice there's a fuck ton of water ghouls. Water ghouls are bassists. There's been a lot of bassists. There was even a while where the band just... Didn't have a bassist. No clue what's up with that tbh

Symbols in the band and what they mean represent:

🜁- air (keyboard)

🜂- fire (lead guitar)

🜃- earth (drums)

🜄- water (bass)

- quintessence (see photo of symbol at bottom of post---rhythm guitar)

+ Multi (Don't technically use symbols, but I use the plus sign--- tambourine, background vocals, the like)

((Note: these are all alchemical symbols, which I noticed when I first got into the band. I adore that so much. I even have a ghoul language in the works comprised solely of alchemical symbols!!))

Step 5: Realize Something (Terrible)

Cinder’s usual alarm rang loudly, waking her up. She groaned, hitting the ‘snooze’ button on her phone. There was no point since it would ring five minutes later but she could barely open an eyelid, much less do a complicated process of canceling the alarm.

Something in the back of her head, hidden by the morning grogginess, kept tugging at her. Something important... Someone important.

She squinted in frustration, forcing herself to remember what had been itching her mind.

Then Cinder remembered. Kisses and touches came flooding back. Sighs and whispers, pleasure and caresses.

She and Kai had spent the night together. Twice. Prince Kai, the people’s prince. Who made them swoon with every glance and yell out his music. He was a celebrity. But to Cinder, he was simply... Well, Kai.

She turned to Kai, studying him. Somehow, he looked even more beautiful while sleeping. His serene face alone was attractive.

Part of her thought she should be panicking, like before, but now Cinder felt the opposite. Calm. She forgot to mention that it was the most peaceful sleep in a while. She smiled.

Cinder let herself delight in this, she believed that she wanted it, that she deserved this feeling of relaxation and joy.

And it was true.

After a few minutes spent contemplating, Kai began to stir. He muttered unknown words, then his eyes fluttered. Finally, he was awake, groggy but awake.

She watched as he processed the events of the previous night, then he grinned, making her heart squeeze. Cinder smiled back.

“You didn’t sleep on the cot,” she murmured teasingly.

Kai rolled his eyes but didn’t lose his smile, “You are much better than the stiff couch.”

“Is that a compliment?”

“I suppose.”

“You just compared me to a stiff couch.”

“Yes, but you are better than the stiff couch,” he said with finality.

Cinder snorted, causing Kai to start giggling like a toddler, “What?”

“Even your snorts are cute,” he remarked.

Her heart gave another flip, “It was just a laugh-” she started but was interrupted.

“Yes, but it was your raw self, and I think that stands as the most attractive thing a human being could possess.”

“So basically everyone is attractive?”

“Of course,” he beamed giddily, “And you happen to be very attractive.”

“That’s very wise, Kai.”

“I’m a wise person.”

“Wise people are humble.”

He shrugged, “Not always.”

Neither of them lost their smile. If it were up to Cinder, they would stay there in that bubble of safety and peace for the rest of the morning at least, but Iko was to arrive any moment.

She sighed, “Kai, Iko likes to come back early, so-”

“I gotta go,” she nodded.

“Yes, do you need a ride?”

“I should be fine,” he got up. While stretching, Cinder heard pops and she looked his way, catching a glimpse of his bare back. She looked away, blushing.

They shared a few comments before he was ready to leave. Cinder climbed out of bed once he went to eat bread for breakfast and prepared for the day. She was surprised Iko was not here yet, maybe she slept in at Cress's. She met Kai outside who was enjoying a single loaf of bread. She shrugged apologetically, but he waved it away.

“Well, I think it’s time for me to go, my ride is here,” said Kai after finishing the bread.

Cinder still felt as if a strange spell was cast over them to make them feel comfortable and his words and soon actions would break it.

She nodded anyway, “Iko would be here any second.”

He stood up, brushing his pants, the same clothing from yesterday. He then walked over to her and kissed her. Cinder smiled under his lips and before she knew it, he pulled away only to brush his forehead against hers.

“I’ll see you again,” it was a promise. Something she would look forward to for the rest of the week.

Kai turned to leave but Cinder had one more question. She grabbed his wrist, pulling him back, “Kai. What- what are we?”

He considered, “What do you want us to be?”

“It doesn’t feel like you’re my boyfriend?” she said questioningly.

“I guess we are friends,” Kai snickered, “With benefits?”

She laughed, pressing her head on his chest, “I guess we can’t put a label on our relationship, then,” she pulled away to look at him, “See you later, Kai.”

He grabbed her hand and leaned down to press his soft lips on her scarred skin. Cinder blushed, “Until then.”

She watched him smile and walk out the door. There was a hidden feeling flowing in her veins, making her pulse quicken. Even after he left, she stared at the door trying to figure out what it was. It felt stronger than simply romantically liking somebody, but it certainly wasn’t love. It was way too early for that and... Well a girl like her couldn't love a guy like him. But she could still hope.

Cinder sighed, turning to the kitchen before remembering that there was nothing left. She groaned, making a mental note to buy groceries.

The door burst open revealing a wide-eyed Iko. There were dark rings under her eyes and she wore the same clothes from yesterday. Another rough night at the University. Iko took the online course but from time to time she went to the school. Usually, before exams and Finals were coming up so she spent most of her time studying there. Cress lived close to the University and took in-person classes there for her Major in Computer Science. So when Iko spent long nights at the school, she usually crashed at Cress’ place.

Iko set her bag down on the worn couch with a marveled look. Cinder frowned, “What’s up?”

“I’m not sure but I’m pretty sure I saw Prince Kai leave the building,” she then sat down, taking deep breaths, “Oh stars, I should have asked for a picture or confronted him or-”

“Iko,” Cinder bit the inside of her cheek, finding a way to weave out of this, “Why would a celebrity come to our building? There’s no reason,” she made a weak smile.

Iko looked unconvinced, “I dunno, maybe to hook up with a random girl. Pop-Stars do that all the time, you know.”

Her heart deflated. Random girls. Was Cinder a random girl? Was she stupid enough to get her hopes up? She knew better and she did anyway. Cinder resisted the urge to groan and facepalm.

Iko raised an eyebrow, “You look conflicted.”

“I am.”

“About what?”

“What to buy from the store.”

“Isn’t obvious,” Iko walked to the fridge and opened it, revealing nothing, “Everything.”

“Ugh, I hate grocery shopping.”

“I did it last time,” she pointed a manicured finger, “Make sure to buy that special orange juice.”

“How could I forget.”

“You did last time,” she sighed, plopping on the couch again, “We need to clean this place.”

Cinder nodded, sitting next to her, “Absolutely,” she nudged her blue-haired friend, “But you need to help.”

Iko snorted, “Look who’s talking.”

The girls laughed before leaning on each other. Their sisterhood was built on years of trust and thrives on it. It hurt Cinder that she couldn’t tell Iko. It’s not that she didn’t trust Iko (she might be the person Cinder trusted most on the planet), it’s that she knew for a fact that Iko would say something by mistake. Iko always beat herself up for it, and Cinder didn’t want her to feel guilty. Either way, telling her or not seemed to end poorly.

She sighed. She would reveal her’s and Kai’s unlabeled relationship eventually to Iko, but now she was not ready for anyone to know. But Iko would most definitely be the first to know.
