Kaz: You just said 'I love you.'
Y/N: *Panicking* I say I love you all the time!
Y/N: *To Jesper as he walks past* I love you, Jes.
Jesper: Aww, I love you too, Y/N.
Y/N: See? Means nothing.
Jesper: Hey!

Show Wesper would absolutely make out during the Ice Court Heist like the desperate mad lads they are because they aren't sure they're going to make it out alive.
Prove me wrong, Netflix. I dare you.

It genuinely frustrates me when people ship character’s with their abuser.
Particularly when the character’s entire storyline is about escaping an abusive relationship.
Particularly when the abusive relationship was founded on grooming.
Particular when the ship only exists because the reader thinks the abuser is hot, and is using the protagonist as a self-insert.
I don’t attack people over what they ship, I never have and I never will, you can ship those kind of fictional ships if you want, no, seriously, go ahead, I won’t stop or judge you, but I am asking you to be aware. Be aware that they’re unhealthy. Be aware that the ship you like was never going to be “endgame” by the author. Be aware that you have no right to bully or belittle anyone who doesn’t ship what you ship, particularly if it’s abusive. Just be aware. That’s all.

Kaz: Is everything okay in there?
Y/N: *Trying to dye their hair but it's gone completely wrong* Everythings wrong, nothing is fine!
Kaz: What?
Y/N: I ment everythings fine, nothings wrong!
Kaz: Yeah, for some reason I'm not buying that...

It's so interesting to me that the book and show reversed the first and last information we learn about Wylan.
In Six of Crows his name/identity and why it matters is literally his character introduction. The fact that he cannot read is saved for the end of the book. It grows the mystery and finally answers why Wylan is in the Barrel working for a gang instead of living the cozy merch life in a mansion. Wylan is always viewed through the lens of being Van Eck's runaway son first, his own person second. However, revealing Wylan can't read last also allows it to be an afterthought. It didn't matter during the book -- none of the Crows knew or cared and Wylan accomplished everything he needed in the plot without mentioning it. And thematically, that's sort of the point. It doesn't actually matter that Wylan can't read.
Shadow and Bone chose to reveal that Wylan cannot read before we learn who he is and why it matters. The show was saving his name/identity for a more dramatic reveal. Not sure what the show had planned, but this choice probably eliminated the mystery of why Wylan was with the Crows. In the same vein as the book, the show built up Wylan's intelligence and capability first. We aren't told who he is, we get to see it ourselves. He's smart, caring, and kind. A person who throws himself into danger and saves his friends despite being afraid and out of his depth in this new criminal world. It doesn't matter what his family name is because we know Wylan through his actions, not his family's reputation. Revealing Wylan can't read earlier in the narrative puts emphasis on his intelligence and all of the things he can do, which makes those accomplishments more impressive. And his name/identity would be more of an afterthought because it wouldn't matter nearly as much as who Wylan currently is in the story.

I just have to laugh at readers who claim that the Darkling was Zoya’s abuser. The text and the Netflix adaptation does the barest possible minimum to allude to such an idea and then these fans proceed to reframe the shoddy writing and praise for it’s “brilliant” commentary.
Bardugo and the Netflix writers could’ve done that (with proper planning and thoughtfulness) but it’s obvious that they couldn’t be bothered to put the effort in. Sorry- Zoya’s just not all that interesting and cramming in some subtext about how she was supposedly the Darkling’s victim is pure fanfiction. Particularly when even in the show, we see Zoya pursuing him of her own volition and that relationship is never meaningfully explored or elaborated on after the fact.

Kaz Brekker x reader
summary: when Kaz Brekker is poisoned by a hallucinogen, it’s not Jordie he sees, it’s you || warnings: poisoning, death, revenge, pekka rollins || word count: 698 || masterlist
Tumblr media
Kaz could feel himself falling backwards but can’t stop it. He closes his eyes and lets the darkness consume him.
The warmth around him takes him by surprise and he opens his eyes to find himself on the floor of a merchants shop. You’re standing behind the counter. You, who used to be friends with Kaz before everything and grew up with him and Jordie. Even after everything happened, you kept in touch, always offering a helping hand when you could.
"What brings Kaz Brekker into my shop at this time of day?"
One last thing, you were also dead. You had died at sixteen when the Dime Lions had raided your store and taken everything you’d worked so hard to get. Kaz had been the one to find you that morning. He had sat opposite your body, unable to touch you but unable to look away. He had done everything he could to make sure you were buried nicely and left in peace for the rest of time.
You hadn’t deserved the hand you’d been dealt and to see you standing in front of him now was jarring, to say the least. The woman in front of him now wasn’t the sixteen year old that had died, you were the same age as Kaz, all grown up like you should’ve been.
"Kaz?"
Kaz took a breath. "You’re dead."
"Everyone dies at some point Kaz. I know I’m dead because I’m not actually here. This is all in your mind Kaz, so enjoy yourself."
"What?"
You lift yourself onto the counter. "Your mind showed you me for a reason, what are you searching for?"
Kaz stayed silent, pulling himself to his feet. It was then that he realised, he wasn’t wearing his gloves, his hands were bare.
"What do you want Brekker?"
"I want revenge." Kaz’s expression hardened. "I want Pekka Rollins dead, for me, for Jordie and for you."
"Kaz, he doesn’t even know who you are."
Kaz sneered, "He knows Kaz Brekker."
"And I’ve known you since before Kaz Brekker was even born." You say to him. "Don’t lecture me about the past."
"If you have all the answers, what are you here for?" Kaz angrily asked, getting more annoyed at your mirage.
"There are never many options in this world Kaz, especially in Ketterdam, you need to learn to use what you have."
"Stop speaking in riddles."
"We all have demons Kaz Brekker. You don't forget about them and they don't go away."
"What the fuck does that even mean?"
You laugh at his misery and confusion. "You need to wake the fuck up. You're living in the past, letting your ghosts dictate your future and letting yourself be led by them instead of by yourself."
"Says the ghost."
"I'm telling you to move on Kaz. Wake up and do something for you, not me or Jordie." Your voice was getting louder and louder, trying to get Kaz to listen to you.
"Do something for me!? I've only been doing things for me my whole life. If I didn't, I'd me dead. My hands are covered in blood I've spilt, for me!"
"Look at your hands Kaz Brekker."
He does look down at his ungloved hands. They're absolutely impeccable and spotless, if a little pale.
"If you are the infamous ‘Dirtyhands’, get your hands dirty Kaz Brekker. Get your hands fucking dirty!" You yell. "Stop being a coward and stand up."
Kaz snapped his eyes opened, pushing someone's hand away from him as he took his first real breath in minutes. The harsh reality of your words was starting to sink in, except they weren't really your words.
How was he supposed to move on the way you wanted him to? He had to make your death worth something, make your life worth something even more. How was he supposed to forget everything that had happened?
But you had also said that demons are always there. So he should use his demons however he wants because they're his demons. They do what he wants and the whole world is at his fingertips...
All you have is your fire and the place you need to reach.
