[Certifiably insane at this point. But for some reason, I had to have a military that made sense for this single fanfic I wanted to write. Wack.

I'll hopefully add full scans to each unit type. It's all because I wanted to actually make a sensible military model, and design armour. I will hopefully also have options for phase 1, phase 2, and the theoretical phase 3 armour types.

This is the REDUCED Unit variety. The wiki, and what I can find from forums have even more unit types, but I can't see anything different regarding symbols, or kit, so this is the current list. For now.]

Nothing unusual ver. 2 - under the last publication in other social networks, many suggested that if Vanto and Faro are Grand Admirals, so…

…In the end, the result was Emperor Mitth'raw'nuruodo.

Combined the white uniform of the Imperial fleet and elements from the uniform of the Chiss fleet. Palpi's wardrobe clearly would not have suited Thrawn's taste.

You can tell by the way some people criticize the Jedi as military leaders that they do not understand how war and the military works

“The Jedi invaded Umbara for wanting to leave!”

Umbara didn’t just “want to leave”, they were a republic world that switched sides mid-war, when an ally switches sides, you declare war on them, at a minimum this is to say “you can’t just do this and expect no consequences”, but its also simple strategy, you attack your former ally so that you can prevent whatever assets they have from being used by the enemy, but also so you can hopefully regain said assets (umbara has unique and advanced technology)

have people not played Risk?

“The Jedi invaded Geonosis again!”

the separatists retook Geonosis and reactivated/built factories there to produce war material (battle droids specifically), as long as these factories were active the war would be more difficult, the Republic invaded to shut down these factories down, its just good strategy

Related, "the Jedi attacked planets during the war"

Yeah, it's war, that's how it works, you can't fight a war exclusively on the defensive (especially not when the enemy has a manpower/production advantage), you have to go on the offensive so the enemy can't build up their strength to attack (and that doesn't even get into the humanitarian reasons to go on the offensive, the separatists are enslaving and murdering whole populations-WWII parallels anyone?-you can't help them if you only fight defensively

“The Jedi used the Clones as meat shields/cannon fodder!”

cannon fodder has a real definition, usually being poorly trained, poorly equipped soldiers sent out for no other purpose other than to soften up the enemy for the main assault

this is not at all how the Jedi treat/command the Clones

first the Clones are highly trained (10 years of it) and well equipped-probably the best out of any SW military

second, the Jedi fight on the front lines with the Clones, that is not something you do with cannon fodder

third, nothing the Jedi ask of the Clones is really that much more than what would be asked of a soldier in a real world military

There is exactly one criticism that I agree with my, very anti-Jedi, cousin on and that's the Jedi were TERRIBLE Generals. Generals may TRY to make sure their men mostly come back. But useless sacrifices are not only acceptable, but expected, the men are mostly expandable in war. The Jedi did not consider sacrifices like that acceptable or expected. Sure it did happen. It was WAR. But they tried their best to make sure it DIDN'T. The Jedi were terrible Generals. But they were the teachers and Leaders the CLONES NEEDED.

I'm not sure I'd ENTIRELY agree with that. I think I'd be willing to agree that the Jedi were perhaps less CONVENTIONAL Generals, and they definitely do seem to at least TRY to place the lives of their men above just tossing them away for an easy victory, but you can just as easily claim that keeping the men alive to keep fighting is a good strategy in and of itself.

The biggest piece of evidence I'd point to that the Jedi were actually perfectly good Generals is the Citadel arc and Tarkin's criticisms. The one real criticism he makes of the Jedi as military leaders is that they're occasionally too soft and will abandon a mission if it looks impossible to win without near total casualties (on either side). But he's generally fairly positive about the Jedi and if they were truly awful at their jobs, I don't think TARKIN of all people would hold back on saying so, even to the Jedi's faces.

And we DO see the Jedi willing to make sacrifices and accepting that this is a necessary part of war. The Citadel arc is, again, a perfectly good example of this. Obi-Wan and Anakin go in with like 3-4 men each I think and they come back with a grand total of 3 (Rex, Cody, and Fives). A LOT of clones die on this mission that they all KNEW was basically a suicide mission because the Jedi themselves decided that getting the information about the hyperspace lanes was vital enough to the war that it was worth losing multiple lives over (including their own).

So it's not that the Jedi don't understand that sacrifices are necessary in war or even that they avoid it entirely, they just avoid what they see as UNNECESSARY sacrifice for what might amount to a fairly minor victory. Keeping more of their men alive might, in the long run, be a better strategic choice than losing all of them on one campaign, especially if it's over like one uninhabited moon or something like that. There's nothing to say that the losses the Jedi deem acceptable are things that would've changed the entire tide of the war had they chosen to push forward instead.

The other good evidence that the Jedi acting this way would've been the WORSE choice is the Umbara arc. We are told and then see that Krell IS the kind of General who is willing to lose a lot of clones in order to gain victories in battle, and the clones do recognize that he has a lot of victories under his belt. But never once do they discuss whether those victories really MEANT anything or had a large impact on the war effort. It certainly never seems that the Republic is majorly pushing back the Separatists because of Krell's victories, nobody ever mentions that Krell gained them a major advantage with those victories or took out anyone of any consequence on the Separatist side with his strategies. And by the time he gets to Umbara, he's explicitly using this strategy to WEAKEN the Republic side and cause a loss. Several of his strategies WOULD'VE meant the Republic lost on Umbara and it's only the clones utilizing different strategies that put fewer of them at risk that they actually end up continuing to HAVE victories at all.

I'll also point out that the Jedi continuously getting their men killed en masse would've bankrupted the Republic a LOT earlier because they'd have to be paying for more clones a LOT more often than they did in canon and I can't imagine anyone would've considered that a particularly sound strategy and at some point I'm sure the Senate would've felt obligated to put a stop to it anyway and insisted on strategies that kept more clones alive for longer. So I'm not sure it's fair to claim the Jedi were utilizing BAD strategy by not just exclusively using tactics that meant most of their men were killed for every single victory.

So the ONLY criticism we EVER see of the Jedi's ability as military leaders is Tarkin claiming they're "too soft" and Tarkin is the kind of person who would likely say that until the Jedi started carpet bombing entire Separatist planets. Would it give them a victory? Yeah, sure, maybe, but that's the exact same strategy the Separatists are using and look how well that works out for THEM. Everything else we ever see seems to showcase that the Jedi are in fact perfectly good Generals, not just in that they're kind to the clones and are unwilling to carpet bomb Separatist planets, but also because they're just... good at this. They CAN be strategic, they CAN run wars if they want to. And I think that's the whole point of the Jedi in some ways is that yes, they CAN make war when they need to, they just actively choose NOT TO every time they can. THIS is why Qui-Gon tells Padme that he and Obi-Wan are there to protect her but that they can't win this war for her and they end up going off to fight off a Sith while Padme has to actually win the war with her own people and the Gungans instead. The Jedi don't WANT to be in the position of doing nothing but fighting, but they're absolutely capable of this kind of work.

That's the tragedy of the war in some ways, the Jedi ARE good at this no matter how much they wish they weren't sometimes. But being good at it means they can actually protect the Republic, their own men, and even the Separatist civilians better, so they're not going to just sit there and do things that will screw over a bunch of people. Yes, they're going to fight the war in such a way that they reduce casualties as much as possible, but reducing casualties also requires doing enough to not LOSE the damn war, too. It's a delicate balance they're trying to hold on to and I'd argue they manage it better than anybody else would've ever done in their position.

Hostage / Kidnapping Whump - Part One (Part Two)

His shot went wide as he staggered, a loud bang ringing through his ears as something tore between the gap of his chest and shoulder armour plating. Warm liquid trickled through the soldier's fingers as he pressed a hand to the wound, raising his rifle back on his opponent with the other. The next shot simply pinged off Whumper's armour.

There wasn’t time for Whumpee to even register his bolt thudding into the wall as his back hit the floor, his opponent already grappling him to the spot. He winced as the attacker jerked his arm to the side, flaring up his shoulder as his vambrace was lifted clear and clattered to the floor beside them.

“It’s nothing-” The mercenary grunted as he wrestled against Whumpee’s arms. “-personal.”

“Tell that to everyone you shoot?” he bit back, muscles straining as his wrists were forced together. Whumpee continued to buck against the other, leg rearing up until his kneecap connected.

Fingers jammed into his wounded shoulder, earning a gasp from him as they sank deep into his bloodied flesh.

Panting as the gloved hand was jerked back out, Whumpee glanced back down as the binders clicked around his wrists. “Fuck you.”

The other paid the comment no mind as he slid Whumpee's sidearm from its holster, clipping it to his own belt as he shifted his weight, getting back to his feet.

Watching the man as he reached for the vambrace abandoned on the floor, Whumpee kicked his leg up again, heavy boot slamming into the mercenary’s crotch plate. With the other man instantly buckling over, Whumpee allowed himself a scoff before going for another kick.

Whumper lost his footing as Whumpee swiped a leg behind his knees, sending him to the ground with a heavy thud.

Scrambling around as his opponent recovered, Whumpee reached for his rifle, the familiar click of a gun behind him freezing him in place.

“Let’s not do anything stupid.” The mercenary walked back around, weapon sights trained on Whumpee's head as his other hand fiddled with his comlink. “Now, tell your buddy to meet back up,” he instructed, kicking the rifle out of arm’s reach.

“Go to hell,” he spat, shooting the other a glare as his helmet was lifted off.

Tossing the helmet to the side as he switched on the comlink, Whumper soon dropped it in favour of freeing up his hand.

Whumpee let out a pained yelp as the knuckle plate dug back into his shoulder, metal tearing at the ripped flesh before coming back red. Still catching his breath, he bawled his fists as the man stomped down on his comlink a moment later to cut off the brief transmission, electricity crackling as sparks spewed out under the pressure.

“Any more funny business and he’ll run in just in time for me to blow your brains out.”

Whumpee’s gaze wandered over to the door as the mercenary’s quiet footsteps circled back behind him. “He’ll kill you. You know that, right?”

“We’ll see.” He made no further comment as the seconds trickled by, the barrel of his gun lightly pressed against Whumpee’s temple.

I think there's something deeply interesting about the Clone troopers learning Mando'a from the trainers, and passing that on to each other. It's probably not a full language, not at first. They only got the basics from the trainers, but they take loan words from Basic, and then from other worlds they're stationed on. It gets passed down to the shinies, evolving and changing quickly. It's a living language, and it has different accents, different words taken from different languages depending on where the troopers speaking it have been for the longest. It's not hidden, not really. The Jedi actively encourage it, though Kaminoans have never wanted it to spread. But it's a remarkable thing, how quickly it changes and how precious it is, for clones to have something that is It morphs into something unique and theirs.

And then, order 66 happens, and clone troopers are phased out and replaced by recruited, but some sources have them training together/training new recruits, and so they pick up on the language as a kind of military slang or code. But it's still a language, still taught and spoken, though more covertly, more carefully even as the clones are slowly decommissioned, but their language is passed on through imperial stormtroopers.

Even when the New Republic seems to have defeated the Empire, there's still Grand Moffs, there's still Stormtroopers, and the First Order rises. And yet somehow, stormtroopers keep this language alive, even though no one who speaks it now knows where it came from, or why only troopers speak it.

Eventually, all those kidnapped children grew up not knowing anything but the first order, and fear, and whispered words under bedcovers that the higherups can't understand. Sometimes they call them natborns and they don't know why. Sometimes they call each other vod'e and don't know why. They know what it means, (it means brother, means sister, means sibling, it means something deeper than that) but not why, not the how. They just know it's a secret. Some of them know songs, and some of them don't get a chance to learn them before they're heard by higherups and whoever knew it was reconditioned and it was lost.

When the First Order falls, troopers who escaped try to find their vod'e, find their family, and along the way they also find decedents of Clones, who speak a language similar to theirs. Who know the words that First Order troopers have only whispered to each other and speak them in the open with their families without fear. Who know all those songs that were so precious and dangerous and more. And they discovered their shared heritage, shared history, through the language the clones built for themselves.

Least favorite fictional tank, and why?

Favorite fictional tank: I really couldn't decide. I like the Scorpion, because I love Halo, I love the Baneblade because of how big and dumb and impractical it is. However, if I really had to break it down, i think it comes down to the Sisters of Battle Exorcist, because it's so unnecessarily extra that it has a PIPE ORGAN MISSILE LAUNCHER. I mean, seriously, look at this thing and tell me that it's not peak "Rule of Cool"

As far as my least favorite fictional tank... Star Wars fans, you might wanna look away. You're not gonna like this one.

My least favorite fictional tank is the AT-AT.

Those of you who've read my earlier posts already know of my distaste for walking tanks, and this is the quintessential walking tank. However, it's also an absolutely terrible design with 0 redeeming qualities whatsoever.

First, let's start with the legs, bypassing the low hanging fruit of "legs bad". Why are they so damn skinny? You have a 85 foot tall troop transport/tank, and you put it on fucking STILTS? Not to mention, the legs are susceptible to basic tripwires. I mean seriously, what is the point in it?

Next, the Head. Why is there a head? Why are the pilots in the head, and not the heavily armored body? Why are the only weapons on the thing directly attached to the head, meaning that it can only fire in one direction, in a 45-degree spread in front of the AT-AT, while also necessitating that the pilots face that way?

Third: WHY IS IT SO BIG. The only possible advantage of a walker is that it's more easily able to traverse rough terrain, which makes it best suited for smaller vehicles, like, say, a Republic AT-RT, or even an AT-ST at a stretch. The AT-AT being so massive literally debunks the only possible advantage it has, and it pisses me off.
