My friend teomisu on Deviantart and I did a MXTX crossover collab. I did the sketch and lineart and she did the colouring and shading. I really love how she made it look like a misty morning on the river.  Wei Ying is so proud of his fish and Dianxia has so many lotus seed pods.  Wei Ying/Wuxian and MDZS belongs to Mo Xiang Tong Xiu and Tencent. Xie Lian and TGCF belongs to Mo Xiang Tong Xiu and BiliBili.

❝ ah, forgive this humble scrap collector, hanguang-jun, ❞ the white-clad cultivator scratched his jawline sheepishly with a finger. the silver, glimmering butterfly on his shoulder fluttered its wings indignantly, as though softly chiding the man for reducing himself.
despite appearances, he regarded the younger jade of lan with a soft gaze, softer still at the man beside him. there was a paternal love glinting in golden eyes, reflecting the grin that his xiǎo tāng yuán gave as soon as xie lian was recognized.
❝ i only wish to offer my blessings, ❞ xie lian continued, with a beautiful smile. it was not unlike wet wuxian’s, in the way that it lit up his expression, except his was full of grace and humility. ❝ thank you, hanguang-jun, for giving a-ying happiness. may you have a harmonious union that lasts one hundred years. ❞
The man may have appeared like any other cultivator, but he failed to fool Lan Wangji from the start. While he has never sensed the qi of a god before, something about Xie Lian reveals him and his golden core as simply not mortal, and Lan Wangji is no fumbling junior disciple. When the man mentions A-Ying, he understands.
He dislikes speculating on this particular matter, but Wei Ying's beautiful mind runs in all directions at all times of the day and had at one point decided to latch on to why he had never responded to the many, many times and places Lan Wangji had played Inquiry for him.. He'd speculated that because an entity called 'Crimson Rain' and one he refers to as 'His Highness' had sheltered him in the ghost realm and taken care of him. He had said that the ghost and the god were likely the reason his ghost fire never dispersed despite the way he had died- something he clearly has an idea of but refuses to tell his husband, to Lan Wangji's immense frustration. Though many of Wei Ying's memories of that time are vague, he insists that the two entities had taken care of him as though he were their son but had also let him go when Mo Xuanyu had called him.
In a sense, Lan Wangji owes everything about Wei Ying's return not only to Mo Xuanyu, but also to them. And now one of them stands before him, thanking him and offering blessings.
This cannot be right, surely.
Lan Wangji cups his hands and bends a nearly full ninety degrees at the waist, holding the position as he speaks. "Taizi Dianxia," he guesses as there is no crimson in the man's clothing or appearance. "It is this mortal who owes you gratitude. Wei Ying told this one everything." He is not religious, but lying is forbidden by the Lan Clan of Gusu. As such, he speaks the full truth when he continues: "You and Crimson Rain protected and cared for Wei Ying when this one failed him in every way. For that, this one owes you tribute if not devotion. Speak your demands, Taizi Dianxia, and they will be met to the best of this one's humble ability."

MDZS Wangxian - Not Jiang friendly
no.5
↑Description:
One where the Golden Core transfer goes...sideways.
↑Description:
One where Wen Qing ends up in the past and fixes the future.
↑Description:
When you shine as brightly as a star, people notice. Everyone wants a worthy, loyal, and strong person by their side.
↑Description:
Jiang Cheng, Nie Huaisang and Lan Wangji decide to team up to go back in time to protect the people they love. The catch is, Jiang Cheng switch’s some characters in the array to erase Wei Wuxian from existence thinking everything will be better without him. Lan Wangji and Nie Huaisang are upset about the change but as long as Jiang Cheng has his family back alive he doesn’t care about their feelings.
↑Description:
A canon divergence where Wei Wuxian and Jiang Wanyin return to Lotus Pier before Jiang Fengmian's death and hear something shocking. As a result, Wei Wuxian's life changes completely.
↑Description:
At the age of seven, Wei Ying ran away from the Jiang Sect, broken and traumatized. He didn't expect to be rescued, especially by Taizi Dianxia and Crimson Rain themselves. Reduced to a shy, selective mute, Wei Ying still retained his sunny smile and kind heart, which endears him to everyone he meets. He may have lost his chance of being the Head Disciple for the Jiangs, but in return, he gained new parents, an entire Heavenly court of powerful aunts and uncles wrapped around his fingers, and even some Ghostly relatives as well.
↑Description:
Why did Immortal Bàoshān Sǎnrén never intervene in the affairs of the Cultivation World?
Many say it was because she was a being not of this world and couldn’t meddle with the affairs of mortals, but what if that wasn’t true.
For a thousand years a woman slept in her secluded mountain, when a whisper from the heavens awoke her from her slumber. The voice told her the injustice the Cultivation World had done to her daughter and son–in–law, they spoke of the injustice that now was about to befall on her grandson.
A punishment they had no right too.
So she left her paradise with her youngest disciple, a crystal was tucked away in her sleeve of red and black. She will show the world a story they had never heard, never dared ask. She’d show them how in the times of long ago why they feared her name.
↑Description:
Wen Chao has a different idea to punish Wei Wuxian but it turned out to be entirely different.
↑Description:
Wei Wuxian risks everything to go back, he cant loose his family again. Loosing the Wen were enough, he cant lose his husband and their children, the Lan's who he loved and who in turn learned to love him. He cant-no won't lose the people he lived for.
↑Description:
Wei Ying has always been a smart child, so when he finds himself back on the streets he was taken from, he decides to make the most of it. Even when he's half-starved, severely injured, and just thrown into the worst place he can think of, he'll come back. And god help anyone who gets in the way of his peaceful life.

Reference post: Jinwang, Zhou Zishu, and Jing Beiyuan according to Word of Honor
I started reading Qi Ye after finishing Word of Honor, and at first I approached it as potential background for Word of Honor. But the more I both read that and looked at the details given to us in Word of Honor, the more another approach made sense to me. Word of Honor takes character names and elements from Qi Ye, to be sure, but the context and details often change quite a bit. I’ve talked a little bit in a previous meta about the differences/similarities in my head between Jinwang and Helian Yi.
However, some of the differences in biographical detail stuck out so much that it occurred to me that it might be more productive (as a writer of fanfiction for Word of Honor alone) to take all of the details we’re given and apply it not to analyzing differences, but to seeing what picture the show does give us. Approached as characters independent from the source text, what can we figure out about them and the situation that made them?
That’s a lot of words to say that I’m basically just going to share my notes: what we do know, just from what’s said in the drama. Also, to preface, I know very little Chinese! I am just squirrelling away what I can from subtitles and resorting to dictionaries, so I can’t give a ton of context or analysis beyond what’s presented on a surface level and I very well may have missed or misinterpreted some things. Would love to hear about it if I have.
The Princes of Jin
To start with: Jinwang is neither an emperor nor the heir to one. This is explicit from episode 1. Our first glimpse of Zhou Zishu and Tianchuang come in a scene set at the mansion of a jiedushi. Li-daren (the jiedushi in charge, and Princess Jing’an’s father) is writing letters in haste to let others know that Jinwang is secretly training assassins in Tianchuang with the intention of killing court officials and rebelling.(1) In episode 11, when Zhou Zishu tells Chengling and Wen Kexing the truth about who he is, he says that for generations the Zhou family have followed the jiedushi of Jinzhou, which suggests to me Jinwang holds the same position that Li-daren does.
There are different kinds of princes besides heirs to emperors. In this case, it’s probably a title bestowed on one of Jinwang’s predecessors by the emperor. The Jinwang of present day is at least the second prince in his line: his father is always spoken of as either the former Jinwang (先晋王) or, in a flashback in episode 24 to a time when he was still alive, wangye (王爷). In the same flashback, Zhou Zishu addresses the man who will become Jinwang as shizi-ye (世子爷), Notably, this is not the title Helian Yi has in Qi Ye, taizi, because he’s not a Crown Prince. (It appears to be pretty consistent with what you’d call the heir to someone in Jinwang’s position).
So, what about the emperor? Well, we actually do hear a little about him when Han Ying shows up to lightly menace Gao Chong in episode 7. Gao Chong gets angry at the threats and says, Tianchuang might rule over the Northwest, but we’re in Yueyang City, under the rule of the emperor. And then we literally don’t hear anything about him. When Xie’er says in episode 34 that he plans to announce himself as the new emperor, his plan involves killing Jinwang first. Jinwang himself, in episode 1, says he plans to be emperor within the next three years. Whoever and wherever the current emperor is, it’s fairly clear that Jinwang’s expected to take his place: not as heir, but by taking power.
A dark room, and a window to heaven
The origins of Jinwang’s bid for the throne go all the way back to the time the former prince was still in charge. By all appearances, Former Jinwang was quite a volatile leader. The episode 24 flashbacks give us the story of Jinwang and Zhou Zishu’s laoshi. Former Jinwang believed slanderous rumors about laoshi and had him thrown in prison and then executed. Not only that, his body was left outside for scavengers to pick apart. Zhou Zishu promised a grieving Jinwang that he would find it and bury it properly.
Zhou Zishu’s father also met his death at Former Jinwang’s hands, as Han Ying reveals in episode 29. He found a letter in Jinwang’s study that said Zhou Zishu’s father was killed secretly for treason against Jinwang. Zhou Zishu had previously believed he died of an illness; he was Former Jinwang’s best friend and trusted subordinate.(2) With later context about Zhou Zishu’s father’s quest for the secrets in what became the World’s Armory, it seems likely he was killed for that failure.
Before dying, laoshi wrote a poem in blood on the walls of his prison. For the poem and better context on it, please check out this post. I’m not sure whether we’re supposed to believe that Tianchuang’s name is a reference to this poem, but Zhou Zishu at the start clearly believed he and Jinwang could make things better. Jinwang certainly never forgets the poem: he recites it in episode 1 as he watches Zhou Zishu ride away with the Nails in his chest.
The courtyard oath
Jinwang’s success is not his alone. He had several close friends and allies, all of whom have left him by the end of the show. The most vital of these in the drama appears to be Zhou Zishu. His Tianchuang propels him to power, and they’re also kin: Jinwang is Zhou Zishu’s older cousin of another surname (he bids Zhou Zishu to address him as 表哥, biao-ge). We don’t really know exactly how they’re related, but I would guess it’s more likely that Former Jinwang married his friend’s sister than that Zhou Zishu’s mother was Former Jinwang’s sister. Both are fun ideas to play with, though.
There are more, though! In episode 30, during what I like to think of as the Worst Wine Party Ever, Jinwang reminisces about a promise made ten years ago in Qingluan’s courtyard. All the friends there would dig up this wine and drink it together. We are treated to a vivid picture in Jinwang’s rose-tinted reminiscences: a flower-filled courtyard, with Jing Beiyuan playing the qin, Qin Jiuxiao playing xiao, Yunxing(3) doing a sword dance, and Qingluan(4) composing songs. And Zhou Zishu and Jinwang, side by side.
Of course, by the time of this reminiscing, everyone but Zhou Zishu is gone. Yunxing went far away to the borderland, Qingluan committed suicide, Jiuxiao died in a battle in Lucheng (which Jinwang orchestrated), and Jing Beiyuan...
Okay, I admit, I have not finished Qi Ye, so I have no clue how he escaped Helian Yi in the book, but this is so tasty. Jinwang apparently believes that he poisoned Beiyuan to death. Zhou Zishu brings this up straight-faced despite knowing full well Beiyuan is alive, and it seems like when Wu Xi and Beiyuan come up in the show he’s always known he was alive and just happened to lose touch. So...somehow they made that happen.
Also, I don’t really have another place to bring this up, but this thing about how they adapted Jing Beiyuan just makes me laugh. When he introduces himself in episode 30, he says that he’s the seventh child of his generation. (I guess to justify the Qi Ye title?) And I just. PLEASE. Imagine there being six more of them. Imagine Beiyuan having OLDER SIBLINGS and being the way that he is.
I’m not going to go over everything that happened with Jiuxiao, because I figure people know/remember? That’s a pretty prominent part of Zhou Zishu’s emotional journey. But if anyone doesn’t and wants an account hit me up.
Shatuo origins
I don’t really know why the show did this, but this is kind of one of the things they did that most locates Jinwang in a place very different to Helian Yi’s: they decided to give his family a non-Han origin story and use that to tie him into the World’s Armory. This comes up right at the end of the show, in episode 36, when Zhou Zishu and Jing Beiyuan discuss Jinwang’s reason for wanting the World’s Armory.
I’m going to give the untranslated subtitles here for anyone who wants to take a crack at them, along with what Netflix gives in English:
Looking back, he and I are both descendants of Shatuo.(5) Our ancestors succeeded in stopping a riot, so they were granted the national surname and were appointed as jiedushi. That’s how we got what we have today.
If we go further back, our clan from this branch was the subordinate of Tuojie(6) Imperial kinsmen.
The World’s Armory, it turns out, was actually originally a legendary vault among the six clans of different surnames that Jing Beiyuan and Jinwang’s families come from. The key was broken up into six pieces, which Beiyuan suggests is the five Glazed Armor pieces plus the key. It was supposed to contain the secret to a long-lasting country, which (as it turns out) is a bunch of sacks of grain and farming manuals written in Tuojie characters.(7)
It’s fairly clear that this has always been Jinwang’s pursuit (there’s a shot of him in episode 12 with an old drawing of the Glazed Armor/six keys), as well as his father’s (since the quest for it got Zhou Zishu’s father killed). So this ends up tying him a lot tighter into the whole web of nonsense around the Glazed Armor, too.
Locations
The show tells us that Jinzhou is in the Northwest during the tete-a-tete between Gao Chong and Han Ying, and elsewhere Hedong is mentioned in episode 1. Jin + Hedong seem to identify it as the area around Taiyuan; there was a Hedong circuit in the area during the Tang dynasty, as well as a state of Jin with the same character as Jinzhou in Word of Honor. Both seem to have been ruled by Li Keyong, but for that I’m relying on Wikipedia entries referencing Chinese-language sources. All of this to say, you’re probably safe setting it in modern-day Shanxi.
Some building names gotten either via Netflix subtitles or pointing my phone camera at screenshots to extract characters:
Jinwang’s palace (or possibly just the main hall) is called Lichun Palace [Hall] (黎淳殿).
Tumblr media
After giving the Nails to Bi Changfeng, Zhou Zishu emerges from a building called Guiyun Pavilion (归云阁), presumably the same one he was just walking through with all the stone and Tianchuang guys and the dramatic skylight. Zhou Zishu’s painting with the flowers is kept in a building called Chongming Court (重明苑). This might be his home? I’m really unclear on how all this fits together.
Tumblr media
A few aerial views for good measure:

The palace

Also, as a point of interest, the dragon banner does not appear to be Jinwang’s personal symbol.
This banner appears inside Lichun Palace:

This one outside Li-daren’s mansion:

And this one on the front of Guiyun Pavilion:
Tumblr media
And I think that’s what I’ve got! Surprised how much there is on all of this in the nooks and crannies of this show.
---
(1) Netflix subtitles give us a few of the addressees: the governors (taishou) of Changsha and Nanning.
(2) Also, his brother-in-law.
(3) He Yunxing is one of the conspirators in Qi Ye, and you could probably transplant who he is in that novel easily into this setting.
(5) This one line spurred so much wiki-holing and speculation about the setting for this from me. Look, I’m just saying
(4) Less so Su Qingluan of Qi Ye, a beautiful young woman who tries to and fails to ensnare Helian Yi and his party in schemes on his brother’s behalf. (And whose death, in another lifetime, was the center of the falling out between Jing Beiyuan and Helian Yi).
(6) No amount of googling has saved me. The best I can come up with is a type of warrior among the Shatuo Turks via a Baidu article I skimmed via Google translate, but that’s not at all how the show treats Tuojie. If anyone has any idea what’s going on here I would love to know.
(7) I think there’s some stuff about agrarian vs. nomadic cultures baked in here that I am not the person to address, it’s definitely A Thing I Would Like to Read Up On along with a billion other things.

an empress lwj preview!
The most pressing matter so far is the matter of his husband’s second son: now Lan Wangji’s second son, too, as far as the law is concerned.
Prince Sizhui is around Jingyi’s age, already working day and night to fulfill the duties of a taizi, and he has taken to Lan Wangji well enough. Now that the Emperor knows Lan Wangji can cultivate and play the qin, he sends Sizhui to the back palace every day for lessons, and the two of them have slowly built up the kind of relationship an uncle might have with a distant nephew.
Sizhui is well-read, and well-mannered, which helps. Accompanying the taizi dianxia is much like accompanying a smaller version of his Xiongzhang, and Lan Wangji always looks forward to the child’s daily visits: but the second prince is as different from the crown prince as Lan Wangji is from Lan Xichen, and the task of winning him over is much easier said than done.
So far, most of Lan Wangji’s interactions with Prince Yu have been short, but he remains convinced that the baby does not like him. The nannies have confided that Prince Yu is a jealous child, unwilling to share his father with anyone but Prince Sizhui, and the head nurse advised Lan Wangji to refrain from approaching him without the emperor present.
“Huangshang was both mother and father to those children, and they have only had each other since before the little master was born,” Wang-bomu said, after the third time A-Yu came to visit the back palace and toddled away without a word to his new stepfather. “Fengwang-dianxia will simply have to prove to Prince Yu that there is nothing to fear, and that you have no intention of taking huangshang away from him.”
“Prince Yu is very spoiled,” added Nanny Liu. “No birth mother could dote on him more than his Majesty does. If you want to make him like you, dianxia, the best way would be to show your concern for his father.”
At that, Lan Wangji nodded and thanked both women profusely before seeing them back to the nursery; but inwardly, it ached a little that A-Yu would not accept him.
If he and his beloved had had a child, and Wei Ying had lived to raise it, Lan Wangji knows that the first one would have grown up to be like Prince Sizhui. Wei Ying would have worried endlessly about the first child’s education, and his nourishment, and fretted night and day over bumps and cuts and fevers; and their son, so deeply loved and cherished, would have inherited everything good and sweet from his beautiful A-Niang.
Being with Sizhui is half a cure for Lan Wangji’s broken heart, and if only A-Yu would grow to like him as Sizhui does--
The second child would have been like A-Yu, a soft voice laments in the back of his mind. My good Lan Zhan, won’t you try to love that little one for the both of us?
I will, Lan Wangji swears. He is so easy to love, Wei Ying!
My sweetheart, he is just like you, and I adore him more than life already.

shattered mirrors 73
[ set after #69 ]
He’s stumbling forward before he even realises he’s moving, knocking into the low desk with his foot and almost falling over if not for Lan Wangji’s steady hand around his elbow. His limbs feel like lead and his body moves as though wading upstream against a rushing river. His ears are ringing, his vision spotting at the edges, but through all of that he sees the person before him.
“A-Xian.” A sob bubbles up inside his throat at the sound of his name in her voice. “A-Xian.”
She too is stumbling towards him, arms outstretched and tears in her eyes. He wants desperately to fall into her arms, to bury himself in her embrace and let her warmth wrap around him and wash away the horrors of the last fourteen years. Pretend as though he is still Wei Ying, the ward of Yunmeng, her brother in all but name and blood, the little boy who had grown up as her second shadow.
Instead, he sinks to his knees at her feet and presses his forehead to the floor. Lan Wangji follows him to the floor, hovering protectively around him
“Your guilty subject pays respects to Gongzhu-dianxia,” he says. “I humbly beg Dianxia’s forgiveness for failing my duty to Yunmeng Jiang.”
There. He’s said it. The words that had been eating away at him all these years, the constant shadow of guilt lingering in the corner of his mind. His family had been tasked with the protection of Yunmeng and its royal family, it had been their job to gather intelligence and wield it in their defence.
He’d failed. And Yunmeng had fallen.
A strangled noise leaves Jiang Yanli’s throat.
“A-Xian, no,” she says. “No, A-Xian, there is nothing to forgive. Please, get up—”
She reaches for his hands, tugging at them to make him stand, but he remains resolutely prostrate.
“Gongzhu-dianxia, this guilty subject does not dare.”
Her hands tighten around his almost painfully for a moment before she sighs, her whole body sagging with the movement.
“You did everything you could,” she tells him. When he goes to deny it, she squeezes his hand again. “Look at me.” He reluctantly raises his head and sees her looking back at him with a tremble in the firm line of her mouth. “A-Xian, I would be dead—or perhaps worse—if not for you. You saved me.”
He presses his lips together in a hard line, his breath heavy through his nose as he struggles to keep the tears at bay.
“I could have done more,” he whispers. “I could have—”
“You did everything you could,” she repeats firmly. “A-Xian, there was nothing more you could have done. Not under those circumstances.”
A raw, wounded noise tears itself from his throat, through his tightly closed lips.
“I should have realised the reports were false,” he argues, hands twisting in the fabric of his robes. “I should have verified them personally, I—”
She takes his face between her hands, shocking him into silence.
There are new lines on her face, around her eyes and mouth, that hadn’t been there before; she’s older, he realises, and has had to fend for herself for many years. The Jiang Yanli before him now glows with health and vigour, dressed in the thick, coarse garments of the northern border tribes rather than the silks of the capital—a far cry from the sheltered princess from Yunmeng she had been in their youth. Her hands, still so small against his cheek, are rough and callused from hard labour.
“A-Xian, you did everything you could,” she repeats firmly. “It is in the past. Do not blame yourself any longer. Alright?”
He closes his eyes with a shuddering sigh.
And then he’s falling forward into Jiang Yanli’s waiting arms with an aborted cry, clutching at the back of her heavy cloak desperately. Her scent is different—the lotus blossoms replaced by something earthier and less floral—and the arms she wraps around him are stronger, the hug firmer than what he remembers. But the way her fingers run through his hair, the warmth of her body, the way she envelopes him in her embrace despite the difference in stature—there is no mistaking it. He would know it anywhere.
“Jiejie.” He’s repeating himself, over and over again, the way he has not done since they were children and it was still allowed. This is not a dream. “Jiejie, jiejie, jiejie—”
“A-Xian.” Jiang Yanli laughs, her voice thick with tears. “Oh, A-Xian, I’m so glad you’re alive. I’ve missed you so.”
He’s missed her too. There are no words to describe how much he’s missed her. So he just holds her tighter, buries his face in her shoulder as they sink to their knees in the middle of the study floor. He’s dimly aware of movement around them—the servants, perhaps, or Lan Wangji, stepping away to give them some privacy—but he doesn’t acknowledge them, overwhelmed by the fact that Jiang Yanli is here, in his arms, safe and sound after so many years.
“Fourteen years…” She pulls away, running her hands over his hair and face as she does, drinking in the sight of him. “A-Xian, you’ve lost weight.”
He shakes his head and laughs. “I’m alright. Don’t worry about me.” He leans into the hand resting on his cheek. “You look good, Jiejie. You haven’t changed at all.”
It’s her turn to shake her head, falling so easily into their familiar banter as she admonishes him for lying.
“Nonsense. Look at me.” She sits back on her heels and raises her arms to show off the travel-worn garb beneath her heavy cloak. “I’m just a humble farmer’s wife now.”
At the word ‘wife’, Wei Wuxian is suddenly reminded they are not alone. His attention is drawn to the doorway where Jin Zixuan stands with his arm around a boy of no more than ten. Gone are the fine, embroidered silks and gilded jewels signature to the Crown Prince of Lanling. Instead, both are dressed in the same thick, northern-style robes as Jiang Yanli, both with the same broad shoulders, sun-kissed skin and matching vermilion marks between their brows. Jin Zixuan offers him a nod when their eyes meet.
“Wei Wuxian, it’s been a while.” After a moment, he hastily corrects himself and bows. “My apologies, I did not mean any disrespect. Jin Zixuan greets Hanguang-wangye, Hanguang-wangfei.”
“Taizi—Jin-gongzi.” Wei Wuxian corrects himself quickly, returning his greeting with a short bow. “There is no need for such formality. It is good to see you all well.”
He is surprised to find he means it sincerely; there was no such goodwill the last time they had crossed paths, young and foolhardy as they were. But those days are long past. Gone is the spoilt young prince who had spurned the woman he regarded as a sister, buried beneath the cold ashes of a war that took everything from them in one fell swoop. This Jin Zixuan is a husband, a father, who had done the unthinkable—renouncing his claim to the throne of Lanling to search for Jiang Yanli without knowing whether or not she was even alive—and had been rewarded for his devotion.
Jiang Cheng, ah, Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian thinks. I think even you would hold a bit of respect for him now.
Jin Zixuan’s eyes shift to Lan Wangji, standing silently behind Wei Wuxian, and offers a deeper bow, which Lan Wangji returns with an incline of his head. Jiang Yanli follows suit from where she is still on her knees with Wei Wuxian, bowing low at the waist.
“Jiang Yanli greets Hanguang-wangye, Hanguang-wangfei,” she echoes. “Thank you for taking care of A-Xian. Yunmeng owes you a great debt.”
Before either of them can react to dispute her claim, she turns to beckon the boy—her son, Wei Wuxian’s heart leaps with realisation—closer with one hand, dabbing at her eyes with the sleeve of the other. She draws the boy closer, turns him to face both Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji with a warm smile and a comforting hand on his back. The boy looks up at them with something akin to awe in his eyes.
“A-Ling, come and pay respects to Wangye and Wangfei,” she tells him. “They are our family’s benefactors. Without their help, we would not be here today, so we must repay this debt however we can.”
“Yes, A-Niang.” Jin Ling steps away from his mother, squaring his little shoulders in a way that reminds Wei Wuxian of his father when they had first met, trying to put on an air of importance despite his small stature; he clasps his fingers in front of his chest and performs a textbook-perfect bow from the waist. “Jin Ling pays respects to Hanguang-wangye, Hanguang-wangfei.”
Wei Wuxian looks back at Lan Wangji, helpless in the face of their collective insistence, and sees the corner of Lan Wangji’s lips twitch. He sighs in defeat.
“Jin-xiao-gongzi,” he says, struggling to keep his voice steady. “Your mother’s family took me in when my parents passed, kept the roof over my head and the clothes on my back. Without them, I would not be here today. Whatever debt there is between us, let us wipe the slate clean now and start anew.”
He sees Lan Wangji incline his head in agreement, eyes soft as he holds out a hand to help him to his feet. His arm is warm and steady around his waist, his hand firm in his, holding him upright as he works to calm the storm of emotions warring within his chest. Finally, he gives the hand in his a brief squeeze and turns back to their guests with a bright smile.
“Now, let’s dispense with all this formality,” he says. “You must be tired from your journey—you must stay with us, here in Hanguang Manor. In fact, I insist upon it.”
Jiang Yanli exchanges a quick look with her husband.
“We do not wish to—” Wei Wuxian clears his throat pointedly, and Jiang Yanli falters mid-sentence, pauses and acquiesces with an amused sigh. “Then it would be impolite of us to decline such a generous offer.”

Approximately a billion years later!!!!
WWX called JYL jiejie as a child, before they got older and it was inappropriate to do so, after which he sometimes called her shijie in private, but mostly addressed her as Gongzhu-dianxia in public.
Any errors or inconsistencies will...be addressed at some point. It’s been a while and I need to revisit some things to remind myself what’s happened >_>

Masterlist, following [9]
Lan Wangji held his hands tightly, tears like crystals in his eyes. "Wei Ying, I'll wait for you."
But Wei Wuxian only shook his head. "Don't. Time doesn't stand still. Live your life Lan Zhan, and one day when I come back, you can fill me in on everything you have achieved. My Lan Zhan is the best. You will be a great taizi, and a great huangdi. And I will guard Yiling for you, for Gusu."
Overwhelmed, Lan Wangji pulled him in by the nape and kissed him squarely on the lips.
Don't give up on me, Lan Zhan.
I won't, Wei Ying.

A quick guide to the characters in the first storyline of Book 1 of Tian Guan Ci Fu
(no spoilers, only characters mentioned and information known during the Ghost Bridegroom plotline, unless I've really screwed up)
(all images are from the manhua; the art in the manhua is by Starember)
Tumblr media
Xie Lian: the main point of view character, also referred to as the Scrap God, the God Pleasing Crown Prince, the Prince of Xianle, Xianle, his highness, his royal highness, dianxia and taizi dianxia. (He's gone by other names as well but every single one is a spoiler so...) The story begins with him ascending to godhood for the third time, and unfolds from there. He has a magical weapon in the form of a white band which he wears around his wrists and refers to as Ruoye.
Tumblr media
Ling Wen: Ling Wen is the head of the heavenly bureaucracy. She is the first to greet Xie Lian upon his third ascension, and helps him get his bearings in heaven.
Tumblr media
Mu Qing: also known as Xuan Zhen, Mu Qing is a martial god who almost gets crushed by a giant bell when Xie Lian's ascends. He and Xie Lian seem to have history; whatever their past relationship was, Mu Qing seems disgruntled and angry at Xie Lian now. He and Feng Xin are the most worshipped gods in the southeast.
Tumblr media
Feng Xin: also known as Nan Yang and Ju Yang, Feng Xin's palace gets destroyed upon Xie Lian's ascension, and once again, it's clear that he and Xie Lian have history. He too seems put out by Xie Lian's third ascension. He and Mu Qing are the most worshipped gods in the southeast.
Tumblr media
Xiao Ying: a young, unattractive woman that Xie Lian meets after he returns to earth to look into the disappearance of brides.
Tumblr media
Nan Feng: a brash ascended god of the middle court in the service of Nan Yang/Feng Xin who chooses to accompany Xie Lian on his investigation of the missing brides.
Tumblr media
Fu Yao: an aloof (tsundere, really) ascended god of the middle court in the service of Xuan Zhen/Mu Qing who chooses to accompany Xie Lian on his investigation of the missing brides.
Pei Ming: also known as Ming Guang, he is a martial god of some prominence and the most worshipped god in the north. He ascended after Xie Lian, so they have never met. Pei Ming has not yet been shown in the manhua, so no pictures yet! (He's in the donghua but I don't want to mix up media)
Tumblr media
Pei Su/Xiu: Pei Ming's descendent/relative, Pei Su is now a martial deity in Pei Ming's service.
Xuan Ji: an important character in the missing brides plotline - to say more would be spoilers! And an image would be too.
Tumblr media
The Bandaged Boy: this heavily bandaged youth is not named, but Xiao Ying has been protecting and feeding him. Her fellow villagers think he might be responsible for the disappearances of the brides.
Tumblr media
Hua Cheng: one of the four great calamities (also referred as devastation-level ghost kings), and master of the silver butterflies. He's often called Crimson Rain Sought Flower.. For unknown reasons, Hua Cheng appears at Xie Lian's side during the missing bride case; everyone in Heaven warns Xie Lian to be careful of him, though Xie Lian seems unconvinced that he should be cautious.

Heavenly Blessing - 50. Bölüm
Mega // MangaTr
Küçük yeşil iblis grubu yüksek sesle Qi Rong’a katıldılar.
Xie Lian, Hua Cheng’in kolunu tutuyordu ve onu hemen ileriye doğru atlayacağını hissettiğinde durdurdu. Geri çekmenin yeterli olmayacağını düşünerek Hua Cheng’in avcuna başka bir kelime daha yazdı: “Teşekkürler.”
Hua Cheng kelimeyi anladı. Başını eğerek onu gözlerindeki minnettarlıkla izleyen, iyi niyeti için teşekkür eden, Xie Lian’a baktı.
O üç basit kelimeyi yazmasına rağmen gözleri buluştuğunda Xie Lian, Hua Cheng’in ne demek istediğini anlamış olduğunu biliyordu. Hua Cheng yavaşça elini sıkıca tuttu ve kafasını çevirdi, Xie Lian daha fazla yüzünü göremiyordu.
Küçük yeşil bir iblis konuştu. “Kralımızın verdiği talimatları takip ettik ve çoktan Pei Ming’in Pei Su’yu kuzeyin savaş tanrısı yapmak istediği dedikodularını yaydık.
Hangisi??”
Hua Cheng acelesiz bir şekilde cevapladı. “Prens An Le.”
Xie Lian kollarındaki Lang Qian Qiu daruma bebeğinin bir kez sallandığını hissedebiliyordu.
Prens An Le, Xian Le kraliyet ailesinin neslindendi ve Lang Qian Qiu ile aynı kuşaktılar, arkadaş oldukları söylenebilirdi.
Qi Rong’un alaycı gülüşü maskenin altından duyulabiliyordu. “Prens An Le? Bence sen kendi ölümünü arıyorsun! Kim sana önümde saçmalamanı söyledi? Seni tutan kişi sana biraz tarih öğretmedi mi? Prens An Le, Xian Le kraliyet kanının son kalanıydı ve çoktan öldü!
