Got my first display tab! And the first thing I tested it with is an anime Connie sketch lol.

HUGE thank you to my supporters at Ko-fi, as that's where I got the funds. 😊😊🤗💕

Seems needed time to get used to, and I use more shortcut keys than the number of shortcut buttons on the tab; but I am already loving the it so far! My laptop, on the other hand, is not handling it too well. 😅

#I did kind of expect the laptop to act like it is right now. Which was another reason for buying a cheaper display tab to save up more on #a new laptop.#I got an Xp Pen 13 by the way!#It's looking great so far #The screen is much more closer to my face now tho. Very random impromptu god gojo AU thingy ??? I got the idea 5 seconds before drawing this (: brain empty….!! big eyes !!!eyes… GOJO? Gojo has eyes…- "BIG" eyes……..,'God' coded? Lets go with that.) and only thought a little while drawing so theres not much lol

But uhm.; So gojo is a young god ™ (around 20yo, typical gojo.) but despite that, he’s been overpowering other gods who have been there for thousands of years since the moment he was born (breaking the balance of the world as he does) so thats fun -- gods are immortal but he "doesnt count" yet right? his existence is an insult to the rest of the world. ‘Elders dont like him’ (that goes both for old gods AND old worshipers.) [<—aka ‼️OVERPOWERED YOUNGSTER OLD PEOPLE DONT LIKE ✅ (CHECK!) VERY GOJO!]

Theres a worship system thing going on in this AU ; A lot of people are very religious and follow these gods and whatnot (but there are probably groups that reject this lifestyle, or that sought out taboo methods instead, staying away from places where strict laws rule) [hashtag insert worldbuilding] —— GETO (born same year as « gojo ») HAS BEEN BROUGHT UP IN THIS SYSTEM SINCE A RELATIVELY YOUNG AGE AND IS FULLY EDUCATED ABOUT THE MANNERS AND RITUALS HE SHOULD DO AND BLABLABLA. Theres a hierarchy in the church/cult thing so theres higher ups for him to dislike while politely kissing ass (amen). Idk what he thinks of the gods (it’s between him being a model worshiper that truly has faith in them & him secretly having something against them for some reason, only believing in his own gatekeep girlbossness or something¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

EITHER WAY. he goes to meet gojo at some point. Probably because he has been asked to. Maybe the story is about (/or at least starts with) elders ™ deciding they want to find ways to control / restrain gojo (idk), leading to satosugu eventually teaming up to say fuck that.

Something something geto being « favoured by a god [gojo] » thus having a definite place in this world and gojo feeling like geto’s existence « grounds him » and gives him proper meaning in what to use his strength for and whatnot. Whatever (i doubt im going to write this so im not gonna elaborate lol sorry (i love me some character psychology but 💤💤)) Something something they are a destined cosmic pair your honour. Hashtag soulmates in every universe including this one HAh

Kind of an afterthought but: Gojo adopting megumi is definitely canon here too so 👍👍👍👍 (megumi is probably human but idk, as long as theyre wholesome im sold <3<3) SO LIKE, SOME PLOT HAS TO HAPPEN TO MAKE THEM FAMILY YKNOW - but deal with that yourself 😌(💤) (unless i come back to this idea with some deranged brainrot i didnt ask for + the will to create & share it✌️)

(Ps i decided gojo can change size so he can be human sized (oooo sneaky!), but ‼️‼️he can also be pocket size‼️‼️(i think thats the most important to note thank you v much), hes not stuck on giant mode yay :D)

HAPPY 10th ANNIVERSARY TO GRAVITY FALLS!

Back in Oct. 2018, my project for inktober was at least one pic from every episode. Because of the pace, there were restrictions; I did each on a post-it note, limited coloring, and chose things that would fit the square format and that I could get done in time (between working full-time and owl-banding most nights). I always sort of wanted to redo a bunch of those; but really, what occasion would merit putting in THAT much time and effort for a project of that size?

Well, how about for the 10th anniversary of the premiere of Gravity Falls?

I’m not saying this was a *smart* project to tackle, but I thought it might be “easier” because I had first drafts of most of the pieces; I just wanted to redo them so they’d look better, with 4 more years of practice under my belt and a new move to digital art. (Narrator: it was not really easier.) Some I redid completely, or did new to create the full sets above. Basically, once I’d hit on this idea, and decided to link it to the refrain of “How Far We’ve Come”, I was committed; there was no way I was going to *not* try to do it.

I know that “How Far We’ve Come” gets fanvidded for eight billion different shows. But, the first time I heard the song was in one of the first Gravity Falls fanvids I ever watched (link below), so it will always be a GF song for me.

Gravity Falls has meant a lot to me for the past 6 years that I’ve been active in the fandom. I have no doubt it will always have a big place in my heart. I’m definitely not done with things I’d like to do for it. I’m so glad to see people coming together to celebrate this big anniversary!

ALSO: needless to say, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Stan and Ford!

Kiss Kiss Fall into another old hyperfixation

Anyway, I randomly wanted to redesign the main cast of Ouran in my style/ with headcanons and my own embellishments

Here's a screenshot redraw, I'll put all the redesigns below the break bc I did all the main characters & wanna talk about the choices I made. Also I made up that uniform redesign on the spot bc I when I was doing the characters I just put them in casual clothes lmao

(I might do some others later, like Renge, Kasanoda, Yasuchika, Benibara, etc.)

Going in order of my least favorite to top favorite. And dont mind that I didn't color the clothes, that's not whats important here lmao

Mori is only at the bottom because I don't like the drawing that much, I still think the design is pretty good. Though, like right when I finished coloring, I decided a bun/top-knot would look better so it's a bit disappointing there. In my head, Mori is kind of struggling to figure out who he is & what he wants to do, which is why he follows Honey around and doesn't talk much. He does genuinely like being around the other hosts though.

Also, the undercut because A) he has the reputation for being the scary one & it kinda suits that, B) uh do I even have to say it? ...its hot He does lowkey look like Sokka from Avatar tho, especially with the blue accents

(edit: I accidentally deleted Mori's file so now this is the only copy so 😭)

Honey is next because again I think the drawing itself is a little off and the design is pretty close to Basil from Omori, which i didn't notice until it was too late lmao. One of the main things I didn't like about his character in the show was obviously how childlike he was & how girls still flirted with him even though he looked and acted 6; So now he still acts a bit childish but doesn't play it up as much & definitely has a more normal voice, not a fckn child's.

Haruhi! I definitely had to keep her glasses cuz they were really cute and kinda sold the whole 'commoner' thing in a way. But other than that I mainly wanted to balance out her femininity and masculinity to make her more androgynous/nonbinary/gender-fluid since she definitely has some of that going on in the show as is. I also gave her dark circles under her eyes to kinda show that she worked really hard to get into Ouran with low status.

Next up is Tamaki of course, getting into the characters I'm most happy with the designs of. One small thing I tried to do for each of them was give them varying hair tones; so even though Honey and Tamaki are both blond, I went very platinum-blond with him. When I started drawing him, my only real thought was "he has to be a pretty boy" so I dont have much to say about my choices, but i do think I succeeded. Don't mind the modern mullet thing, I can't stop it

Kyouya is definitely one of my favorite characters as is, seeing as he has one of the more fleshed out & heart-wrenching backstories in the show. I think the only thing I really wanted to change was getting rid of the Anime Bangs, so I just gave him this kinda sleek, kinda messy pushed-back look with a blue tint. Even though it's simple, I really struggled to come up with anything, until I found a page from the author saying smth like "I don't like the idea of him wearing neat clothes" with a picture of him in like a track suit so I did kinda the same outfit

My absolute #1 favorites, Hikaru & Kauru. They're honestly the ones that started it all because Kauru has been my favorite since I first saw the halloween episode (iykyk).

I don't know why, but I wanted their hair to be fluffier/curly and more of a natural(?) ginger color. I knew I wanted Kauru's to be redder and Hikaru's a bit lighter/blonder, but only subtly. I also gave Kauru a scar on his cheek from that time in Karuizawa, but most notably, I gave them blue and pink eyes as their signature colors. Lastly, their expressions are slightly different, because no matter how much they are in sync and try to match each other perfectly, Kauru's a much gentler soul than Hikaru, so I made Hikaru's smile a bit more snarky while Kauru's is soft.

How i make my drawings

Hello! Since @wolfsune09 asked how i make my shading and all that i decided to make a little tutorial on my shading style! (I draw in Clip Studio Paint)

Also english is not my fist language so i'm sorry if i make any mistakes or say weird sentences!

So let's start with brushes:

The brushes i mainly use are The Calliflakes brush, Soft square brush, and the regular Turnip pen and Design pencil from Clip studio

These brushes are like, MY LIFE i love them so much dfjsdbfhbsdb

Anyway, the drawing i'm making is a screenshot redraw of a homestuck panel because i can

Anyway after the sketch i make the shading plans, they are really important and will basically dictate if the drawing will be good or not

always make sure the light direction is the same throughout or else it will look lackluster, think about the character in they're primary forms(head is a square, torso is also a square, nose is a piramid etc.)

Now is the real kicker, plan the reflective light (i can't explain it really well so researching it is a better option)

I like to see the light sources with their correct blending modes before drawing to check if the colors look ok

In the end, the objective is to make it so the drawing still holds up without the sketch, if the light makes the pose readable, it's all good to go

Finally, it's time for the lineart, i made the Calliflakes's brush change in size depending on the tilt, this is great for a dynamic lineart and a crunchy look

I usually use three sizes in the lineart, the main size, a medium size to make more detailed parts, and a smaller one for when i need even smaller details, tho it's good to use it sparingly since it might make the drawing look unbalanced

Also, i usually don't use black in my drawings, mostly because of the shading process

Now it's time for the flats! This part is pretty simple, this ios also the part where i paint the lineart, i ONLY paint parts that are INSIDE the silhouette, mostly to make everything blend more and also becuase i like it :)

Alright now for the part you came here for, the shading! Alright, remember the shading plan? Use that as a base for the actual shading.

First, since this drawing is in a dark place, i grouped the whole drawing in a folder, then made a multiply layer with the color closest to the original image, then i clipped it to the folder(this is a very common thing here)

(I didn't shade the eye since it is the main point of focus of the drawing)

Now let's see it with the lighting plan

Now let's talk soft squares and design pencils

The way i shade with the soft square is that i make it mostly cell shaded, then i come with the same brush but transparent, and i VERY CAREFULLY make circular motions to erase part where i want the shading to make a gradient effect, the key to a good shading job is balancing the sharp shadows with the soft ones

Now with hair, i use the design pencil, i basically just make a bunch of close streaks, almost like painting with a paint brush, after that i make streaks with the same pencil but transparent, making variations in lenght so it looks natural and organic

Alright time for the first shade pass, this one is for the more general shadows, so it won't look that dynamic

Now you can see where the shadows are lacking and make the second pass to deepen the shapes

(P.S: all these layers are the same color, they are in multiply mode)

Alright time for the star of the show! The lights!!!

Using the shading plan i refined the shapes and put it on the add(glow) mode, a good tip i have for this stage is to make shapes shapes shapes! Also remembering that the farther the thing is, the least bright it will be.

Oh my! That changes the whole vibe!

Now i saw the hair was a little boring looking, so i added an extra layer of airbrush to make it more dynamic

Actually fuck it, time for some finger tip smudge

Now we're talking.

Alright, now it's time for the reflected light, make sure it's not too bright unless it looks like a second light source, also this layer is in glow dodge mode!

We could say it's done as it is...

BUT NOT BEFORE THE COLOR DODGE

It looks so muck better now! But that's not all!

Now that we have this beautiful boi, it's time for the finishing touches! These make ALL the difference in the drawing

There we go!

Well now it's my favorite part... the FUCK AROUND AND FIND OUT part!

This is where you add all the textures and special effects! I like mostly using a noise filter (so AI can't steal my stuff) and achromatic aberration, also adding some ashes and a nice metal texture in the background to make it nicer looking

Now, this is technically finished, but if you want to go the extra mile, you can do some color correction, i like doing it to give more contrast, also to make the piece more balanced, i also added some extra details on the eye and a blur last minute

And it's done!

As you can see my process is a little all over the place, but that's the fun part of drawing for me! It's always an adventure where you never know how it's going to end!

Anyway hope this helped at least a little!

Was talking on the twits about how "not mine" isn't a source, and how you shouldn't be posting other people's art in general but definitely shouldn't be posting other people's art without at least linking back to them, and thinking about the most egregious example of this that I have personally experienced. I haven't really talked about it to anyone because it seems almost petty compared to the rest of the related situation, but bothers me more every time I think about it.

I think most of the people who know me are aware of my old in-character askblog, @askvincentvalentine; I'm redrawing all entries to eventually release as a solo anthology, but I have a lot of anxiety about it and it's going very slow. I think this hesitation (I might even call it apprehension) is in large part connected to this unspoken experience, and maybe finally talking about it will help.

A month or two before we broke up, I found out that my abusive ex had reposted every Ask Vincent Valentine entry to his personal Facebook, starting years before we really met, never linking back to Vincent's blog or to mine. He'd reposted a lot of my art, actually, and treated this like a totally normal thing, saying it wasn't a big deal since we didn't know each other at the time.

Looking back, it's a little...creepy. We met properly in 2020, but I remember him showing me a screenshot of a post he'd made in like 2015 where he reposted a piece of mine drawn in 2005, posted on my original dA account, under a different handle that is pretty much completely unconnected to my current online identity. I'm not saying he was stalking me for years or anything (I'd seen his fanfiction on AO3 for ages so it's not like we were unaware of each other's existence), but it still feels really fucking weird.

On top of that, by reposting it to that particular platform, he allowed my work to eventually be scraped to train multiple gen/A/I models without my consent. As if he didn't mistreat me enough during our relationship, he'd apparently been taking advantage of my work for years before that.

The more I think about it, the more it bothers me. Like...what the fuck, honestly. I don't have any other way to quantify it other than "what the fuck."

Just...why would he do that? And he didn't tell me about it until years into us knowing each other. When I said (as gently as possible) that I didn't like it, he said that he couldn't ask me back then because he didn't know me, so it was okay—and it would have been okay by now anyway, since we were in a relationship, so it wasn't like I was gonna tell him to take the posts down.

I don't know. It's bothering me a lot recently. Reposting other people's art without even trying to credit is bad enough, but this just feels like some next-level bullshit.

Yes, as you can tell, I enjoy drawing Pluto in fiery scenes, especially with Vermillion Vows. This started off as a sketch redraw and then, as per usual, I got very carried away. At least in my timezone, this will be my last posted piece of 2023 so cheers!

This is during his fight with Tamamo-Fifionne, where the two challenge each other to a fight. I cannot begin to describe the significance of Pluto and Fifionne's battle against each other in Nasu. Their parallels, as well as their divergences are all on display. While their ideologies and attitudes towards the world are not so dissimilar, the two fight for entirely different purposes. Fifionne is much like the Pluto of the past, the destruction of Nasu only being one small step in her plan to inflict ruin on the rest of Japan. Pluto on the other hand, is here to move on and atone for his past. Fifionne, as she stands, is not just a reflection, but a reminder. He was sent here was to knock sense into the fox girl before others got hurt. Although he could allow pride to get the better of him, would that really make things better? Would it just be more fuel to the flame? Would he have been any different from his past self? What stands in front of him, is not so far from what he was before. Unlike him however, he knows it is not too late for her. Even if he believes himself as far beyond salvation, Fifionne still has a chance.

You're not here to win a fight, you're here to stop the past from repeating itself.

There is SO much I can talk about when it comes to both Pluto and Fifionne, but I would ramble on for way too long and I already just did that. I have thought a lot about the battle between the two, as well as their interactions after everything. God there is so much about Vermillion Vows that I could talk about for days on end.

a few rambling things to note about how i've started to hc these turts, because it may at some point become relevant idk; > rise!leo is ftm trans and bi- this is rarely gonna be relevant in my art but eh, maybe i'll do pride arts at some point. i'll probably only tag relevant art though > i like to make poor raph suffer with my hc's and i honestly can't explain it, maybe he's just too cute and my squish response is triggered- but the boy has gigantism, and it doesn't do him any favors. i love giant raph but let's be real, that's gotta be rough on the internals. i imagine as he gets older and thus bigger, he gets slower and more hindered by this condition, at least until his awesome family finds a fix > i draw donnie's nose different from all the others bc one of the ways to tell apart a spiny softshell vs a smooth or florida softshell is their nostrils and i just appreciate that okay > also post-movie donnie probably can't stand the feeling of anything softly or gently touching him so kiss that shirt goodbye it's probably skin-tight and weighted everything after that. give donnie weighted blankets with rough textures he would honestly probably appreciate it > if raph can't have markings that glow, give him MORE SPIKES >(

Two Sides of Molluck

Man, I just felt like quickly sketching these two sides of Molluck: 'the anger issues having, bossy jerk', and him being a sweet Gluk. Yeah, these are like the 'basic two layers' I see his personality having. Frankly, I still don't know if him having anger issues is exaggerating or not since this information is from SoulStorm's worst ending but I bet that the Sligs might have this image of him.

Him being easily irritated and being angry in general in SoulStorm is totally understandable but he still tries to control himself and warns the Slig to stop talking about his situation before he gets really mad... But well, like the bad ending shows, he didn't listen to his warnings... Also, I recognize him actually talking in a friendly way to the Slig, even when he sounds angry, like in that first part of the good ending cutscene. Maybe it's that I can sound angry even when I'm not, so I can see behind his harsh tone that he doesn't really mean it, or at least it makes sense to me... Though yes, he does also use harsh language on purpose and means it, but yeah, you probably got my point. It's just kinda his way to talk, and yeah, like I said, it reminds me of mine...

And yeah, the second sketch is kinda a redraw of one about three years old drawing. I just have been thinking about drawing something like this for a while since I just love his loose face... I just wish to grab his cheeks and stroke and 'shake' them... Man, he is also just so adorable, like the cutest thing I know! Just this part of this cutscene...:

He is just so adorable here... I just love this part of him taking deep breath with his cigar... Man, I just cannot express enough how cute he is... This is probably my top1 fave screenshot from SS, just because he looks so endearing here...

But yeah, I could just go on and on with my Molluck talk, so um, I stop here... Man, I just love this Gluk so much... Loving to waste spend my time and energy on him. (Y)
