Paintings from Buckingham Palace: part I
A retexture by La Comtesse Zouboff — Original Mesh by @thejim07
100 followers gift!
First of all, I would like to thank you all for this amazing year! It's been a pleasure meeting you all and I'm beyond thankful for your support.
Spread among 13 occupied and historic royal residences in the United Kingdom, the collection is owned by King Charles III and overseen by the Royal Collection Trust. The British monarch owns some of the collection in right of the Crown and some as a private individual. It is made up of over one million objects, including 7,000 paintings, over 150,000 works on paper, this including 30,000 watercolours and drawings, and about 450,000 photographs, as well as around 700,000 works of art, including tapestries, furniture, ceramics, textiles, carriages, weapons, armour, jewellery, clocks, musical instruments, tableware, plants, manuscripts, books, and sculptures.
Some of the buildings which house the collection, such as Hampton Court Palace, are open to the public and not lived in by the Royal Family, whilst others, such as Windsor Castle, Kensington Palace and the most remarkable of them, Buckingham Palace are both residences and open to the public.

Hey I had an idea for a FF the idea came to me while listening to Teenage dream by Stephan Dawes . Matt and reader are teenagers and have a date in the park, Matt was about to tell the reader that he loves her and suddenly it rains. The reader loves rain and they both dance in the rain.
Would be happy if you make something out of it.
thank you for your request!!
-----
“What would the sisters say if they saw us like this?” You say, sitting between Matt’s legs. His chest is pressed to your back as he’s leaned up against a tree. Heavy arms rest around your midsection while your head rests on his shoulder.
“Probably claim blasphemy, Sister Thomas would pass out.” You snort at his words and he laughs a deep chuckle that warms your insides in the chilly autumn air.
The two of you, now seventeen, were at the age where the orphanage gave you a curfew instead of having you stay within the compound. You’d been dating Matt for about a year, when you were sixteen and each other’s first kiss after a rather fun Christmas event, finding each other beneath a dried out piece of mistletoe hung up as a joke by another kid.
He turns, kissing your temple as you sink further into him. A shiver runs through you, prompting him to adjust and take his sweatshirt off, handing the soft gray material to you.
“Matt, you’re gonna be cold!” You exclaim as he helps you slip it on. He hums.
“Not if I have you to warm me up. Come closer.” Once he slips down to lay fully in the ground, you turn over, yours and Matt’s chest pressed together now. He tilts your chin up with his thumb and kisses you short and sweet.
“We should do this more often.”
“We should.” You reach up to take his glasses off, something he’s only felt comfortable doing around you just recently. His honey brown eyes peer just to the left of you, but you smile at the sight of them all the same. He cups your face with a warm, calloused hand, thumb brushing up and down your cheek.
“You’re beautiful.” He says, and you lift your head from his chest.
“You can’t say that, you’re blind!” You laugh out, and he smiles a soft smile.
“I mean inside and out. Your personality is beautiful, sweetheart, and I don’t doubt that your looks are as well.” Red as a tomato, you bury your head in his chest again.
“I gotta tell you something.” His words came out just as the first drop of what was the beginning of a rainstorm came down.
“You can tell me anyt- Where did all this rain come from!” It starts coming down heavily, sheets of rain start to pelt the two of you as everyone else occupying the park runs for shelter. You stand up quickly, pulling Matt to his feet with you. You tug his hand, trying to get him to move to the gazebo roughly 50 feet away, but he holds firm in his position.
“Dance with me?” He asks.
“Matt, in the rain? We’re going to get sick!”
“Just- please? I know it's one of your bucket list things.” And you can’t say no to the way his eyes soften.
“Alright, Murdock.” He holds you tight and sways, the feeling of water long gone as you focus solely on him. A few minutes go by and you realize that the two of you are the only ones left in the park, and you snuggle further into Matt’s forever warm body.
“Can I tell you something?” He asks as he cups your face in his hands.
“Anything.” He takes a deep breath, seemingly in preparation for what he has to say.
“I love you.” The air is knocked out of your lungs from his words, but what surprises him more are your next ones.
“Say it again.”
“I love you.” He says, voice unwavering. Before he could react, you pulled him in close and kissed him. Not a soft and short kiss, but a kiss filled with fiery passion and love.
“I love you too, Matty.” Resting your foreheads together, your pants are outlined by the chilly air, puffs of steam flowing between the two of you. He holds you for what feels like forever, rain soaked clothes and chills down to the bone, but you can’t find it in you to care, finally finding the one person through this journey that was yours.
-----
“That’s how you did it? In the rain?” Karen’s voice breaks through the low hum of attendees at Josie’s bar.
“Yep, and it worked, cause now they're mine forever. Isn’t that right, Murdock?” You laugh and slap his chest.
“Shut up, I’m surprised we even lasted this long.” It’s his turn to laugh at your words now.
“Awh, you wouldn’t give me up for anything.”
“A burger with crispy pickles.”
“You love me.”

Distracting
For @dukexietyweek Day 2: Games           (Ao3)(login required)
Word Count: 1579
Characters: Virgil, Remus, Roman (mentioned)
Rating: T
Warnings: Intrusive thoughts, anxiety, crying, mentions of suicide, referenced suicide attempt, sexual themes, gore mention
Virgil and Remus tend to get serious when they play video games. And when Remus gets anxious because of his thoughts, Virgil knows just how to comfort him.
---
Sometimes having a boyfriend like Remus meant getting dragged into the Imagination for some crazy adventure. Sometimes it meant cuddling him so he wouldn't flail in his sleep when he had nightmares. Sometimes it meant some violent suggestive roleplay. But sometimes it meant playing video games and having a heart to heart.
Virgil was used to Remus rambling on about his frustrations while plowing through zombies. He was used to venting about his own struggles when it was his turn on the controller. They were better at talking shit when they were both playing. But this time was different.
"You know what really grinds my gears?" Remus said as he moved Leon through the police station. He was sitting on the couch, leaning on his knees and watching the screen.
"A lot of things. What is it this time?" Virgil asked from his perch on the couch.
"Roman. He won't shut up about Nico, and he keeps flooding the Imagination with fluffy romantic scenarios about Thomas getting married and growing old with him," Remus huffed as his fingers worked over the controller.
"What's wrong with that?" Virgil bristled. So maybe he was making that worse.
"Nothing, but he's setting himself up for heartache. He's trying to make his fantasies reality when Thomas doesn't really know Nico. He's not excited for the journey, just the goals. It'll bite him in the ass if he can't separate reality from fantasy."
"You're one to talk," Virgil scoffed.
"I am! When's the last time Thomas actually murdered someone? Or fought a pack of coyotes? Or decided that the blender was a good place to stick his—"
"Point made."
"I don't really want to take over the bulk of the creative work while he wallows again. I let my influence slip in too much. I thought you would have caught me back then."
"You did a good enough job that I thought those slips were just Roman being a mess," Virgil shrugged.
"Daw," Remus giggled and glanced at him quickly when he was in a safe room, "That's the nicest thing you've said to me all week!"
"It's Sunday, you dork," Virgil huffed and crossed his arms. He hated how easily Remus could fluster him even though they'd been together since before the series started.
"Yeah and? You'll probably say something even nicer to me before Saturday!"
"If I didn't have a shit ton of work to do, I'd be insulted."
"I like it when you're snarky and mean! You come up with the wittiest comebacks and threats, and it makes me feel special that you use that brain power and creativity on me!" Remus said with a shimmy.
Virgil grumbled and hid his face in his hands. He pulled his knees to his chest and tried to disappear. He really had to get better at taking compliments. At least Remus went back to playing his game.
"You know, the worst part of this whole Nico thing is that you're involved on Roman's side."
"Are you jealous that I'm spending time with Roman?"
"Nope! I like that you're friends! I don't know if I like how he's influencing how you think about Nico," Remus replied through gritted teeth.
"What are you trying to say?"
"I'm worried about you. You're usually cautious about other people, you need to know more before you get attached. If he's not the guy you guys imagine, I know Pissboy will lose it, but what about you?" Remus asked and wiped his eyes, "What happens to you when he goes back to being a tyrant?"
"Octopup?" Virgil asked and relaxed his posture.
"What if he starts blaming you and attacking you again when things go wrong?" Remus rambled. He had to pause the game because his hands were shaking, "Wouldn't it hurt more since you were actively trying to help? What if he pushes you to the edge again? I know how mean and hurtful he can get."
Virgil took the controller and set it down before pulling Remus onto his lap. Remus clung to him and trembled.
"What if I'm not enough to stop you? What if you decide to try again?"
"Your intrusive thoughts are getting to you," Virgil said softly and rubbed his back. It wasn't an accusation, but an understanding.
"I can see it so clearly. The falling, the abyss, and then you disappearing. And it could happen! It's not just a bad idea this time!" Remus sobbed, "I keep seeing you die over and over, just like the last time. And I was right back then! If I didn't show up—" he hiccuped and shook with a another wave of tears.
"Puppy," Virgil said and kissed his forehead, "I'm not going to let that happen. Even if he blames me for everything, I know he doesn't mean it, I know that the others see my worth, and I know that I can't bear the thought of actually hurting you. I can't forget the way you looked at me, the way you pulled me back without touching me. I can't do that again."
"Virgil," Remus said and looked up at him, "I love you."
"I love you too," Virgil said and hugged him, "And I won't let any other anxiety eat you alive. You're my snack."
Remus giggled wetly and nuzzled into his shoulder. It wasn't often he got anxious over his intrusive thoughts, so he was glad to have the most experienced anxious mess with him.
"Can we play a game?" Remus asked, unsure if Virgil would go with it. With all that needed to be said out of the way, Remus needed a good distraction.
"I guess Resident Evil isn't the best option. So how about this? You name a musician or band and I'll tell you what song of theirs reminds me of you," Virgil suggested. He could think of something else if he had to.
"If I don't know the song will you sing the lyrics?"
"It won't be the whole song."
"Okay. I'll just name bands I don't know well so you'll sing for me," Remus said and lifted his head, "Uh, Escape the Fate."
"Gorgeous Nightmare."
"I don't know that one," Remus pouted and dried his eyes. Virgil smirked and kissed his forehead before clearing his throat.
"'You're such a gorgeous nightmare. Old habits never seem to go away. You make me feel brand new, yeah. We resurrect it's like I've come back to life.'"
Remus giggled softly and squeezed his boyfriend. He was an emo nightmare alright.
"Black Veil Brides."
"Rebel Love Song," Virgil answered with no hesitation. Remus knew that one and he grinned at the thought.
"A Day to Remember?"
"You Had Me at Hello," Virgil responded and gently scratched his scalp.
"Lyrics?" Remus hummed and melted into the touch like a puppy.
"'What have I gotten into this time around? I know that I had sworn I'd never trust anyone again but I didn't have to. You had me at hello.'"
"Yellow car," Remus suggested, unsure if that was an actual band. Virgil caught him biting his lip and decided he wouldn't make him nervous again.
"Ocean Avenue," Virgil said before singing a few lyrics, "'If I could find you now things would get better. We could leave this town and run forever. I know someway, somehow we'll be together. Let your waves crash down on me and take me away, yeah."
"Uh, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus?" Remus asked and snuggled closer.
"Your Guardian Angel. You don't need me to sing that one," Virgil hummed, "I sing it to you at night."
"Pretty please?"
"For you, yeah," Virgil said softly and kissed away his tears.
"'Seasons are changing and waves are crashing and stars are falling all for us. Days grow longer and nights grow shorter. I can show you I'll be the one.'"
Remus laughed softly and kissed his neck.
"You're so sweet, Scare Bear!" Remus sighed and trailed his lips up Virgil's jaw, "You take such good care of me."
"That's because you take good care of me. And because no matter how gruesome and gross you are, I love you."
"Can we play one more round and then cuddle and watch a movie? Naked?" Remus asked and nipped at his ear lobe.
"You went from anxious to horny fast," Virgil noted and pulled his face away from his gremlin.
"It's not my usual horny. It's cuddly vanilla horny, and it's all because you gave me a heart boner and it spread. So can we?"
"Yeah, one more and then we can go to your room."
"Papa Roach! And you should still sing!" Remus giggled. He knew them better than Virgil.
"...To be Loved," Virgil said and leaned down right by his ear to deliver on the lyrics with the same cadence as the original recording, "'I want domination, I want your submission, I see you're not resistin', to this temptation.'"
Remus shivered at the low growl laced in Virgil's voice. He expected that but he was never ready for it. He grabbed Virgil's face and planted a smooch on his boyfriend.
"You really know how to distract me and make me squishy!" Remus purred, "Keep doing it!"
Virgil kissed him again and sank them both out. Sometimes having Remus for a boyfriend meant being vulnerable in a casual setting. Sometimes it meant that Remus would need him more than he let on. And most times it meant Virgil had his own piece of heaven.

THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY
Lorna Lovestrange made her live-action debut in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins. Many actresses were in talks to play the anti-heroine, the list including — but not limited to — Kate Beckinsale, Charlize Theron, and Milla Jovovich. The role ultimately went to Ali Larter.
She is first referenced to Bruce by a concerned Rachel Dawes during their reunion, who briefly mentions their childhood friend being kept at Arkham. Lorna is then later seen for the first time being escorted from Dr Jonathan Crane's therapy suite to vacate for Carmine Falcone. The look she gives Crane is not lost on Rachel as she is sent back to her cell. She's discharged from Arkham later on in the film, where she has a fleeting and emotionally distant meeting with Bruce. She mourns the friendship they'd once shared, and departs, disenfranchised by how much fondness she'd once held for him. She is present during the Batman's encounter with the Scarecrow, having sworn vengeance not only for the experimentation, but for the kidnapping of Rachel. It is here that she is exposed to her overdose of the fear toxin. Her fate is unknown, but it is heavily implied that she passed away, solidifying Bruce's resolve in distancing himself from Rachel. In the last moments of the film, it is revealed that Lorna is alive when she visits Crane in Arkham. They have an exchange of words, and Lorna is shown to take great pleasure in Jonathan's broken condition.
Lovestrange had never meant to be in the sequel, but her status as a fan favourite warranted her return. She is first seen at the police parade for the judge's funeral, her attendance at first being out of respect, as her family were well-known Gotham officials and were close with the family. This is her first encounter with the Joker, his arrival being of some cause for concern. Under military guidance, Lorna remains in Gotham as a failsafe measure to contain Joker. She reappears later when he is in custody, and has an exchange with Jim Gordon, who is the first to call her by the moniker of Cannonade. She is permitted to interrogate the Clown Prince of Crime, but her attempt ultimately fails when he is unwilling to speak to anyone other than Batman. He does, however, take great interest in Lorna herself. Frustrated, Lorna leaves the room, encountering Batman on her way out. It is clear that she is visibly struggling to control her violent temper, and a brief flicker of concern is seen on Bruce's face as she exits.
Her final appearance in the franchise comes in The Dark Knight Rises. She is first seen in the opening sequence of Dr. Pavel's kidnapping as one of Bane's hired mercenaries. It is during the breaking of Batman that Lorna discovers Bruce's alter ego, and expresses a glimmer of remorse behind her cold exterior. Bane, sensing the burgeoning doubt in Cannonade, puts her loyalty to the test by gifting her to Jonathan Crane — now having taken up the position of Gotham's judge — as his enforcer. Her resentment for Bane festers and grows as she is forced to bend to Crane's every whim. During the final battle, her unpredictability gives way as she turns on Bane, dying by his hand to allow Bruce to escape. Her sacrifice doesn't go unacknowledged, and in the final scene of the film with Bruce and Selina in Italy, we see a faded photograph of a young Lorna, Rachel, and Bruce tucked away in Bruce's wallet.
GOTHAM
During Gotham's run, Lorna Lovestrange was portrayed by two separate actresses. The first of which — Ryan Kiera Armstrong — depicted Lorna's younger years during her school days with Bruce, and the incident which consequently landed her in Arkham.
Her connection to Thomas Elliot remained, although it was altered greatly. She is most notably present in the first eight episodes of the first season, being a shoulder for Bruce to cry on and to lend an ear to his idot plans of conquering fear. Her last appearance of the season came in episode eight, following Bruce’s confrontation with Thomas Elliot after the bullying incident. After Bruce delivered his punch, Lorna returned to the Elliot home, not at all satisfied with Bruce’s self-discovered catharsis. The knife she’d brought with her found its home in the soft tissue of the belly of the first person to answer the door. Unfortunately, that person had not been Tommy, but rather the Elliot’s hired help. Her parents committed her to Arkham Asylum that episode, her last words to Bruce being enclosed in a letter to him. She is briefly seen again in episode fifteen as Jonathan Crane’s cellmate in Arkham, rather than her being his patient.
The recasting of Lorna Lovestrange came when the show’s material regarding Cannonade’s characterisation was deemed unsavory for such a young actress to continue portraying in good conscience, and Jessica Alexander was brought in to continue the role. In every Arkham related episode, Lorna was given cameos here and there, her fall from grace a gradual building dread in every appearance. She eventually gets discharged, and reunites with Bruce at Anders Preparatory Academy, though their friendship is strained. Lorna clearly clings to the memories of the old days, and wants to return to that time, but Bruce has grown out of their bond, and, much to her dismay, her.
She appears, for the most part, stable, but when she catches the eye of Thomas Elliot, she begins to slowly grow paranoid and unravel. It is here that Cannonade makes her first true appearance, when she believes she is being followed home by Elliot and lashes out, killing her pursuer. It is revealed then that it had been a hallucination induced by the remnants of Crane’s fear toxin, and the man had been a mere stranger attempting to return a dropped wallet to her. She promptly leaves the city again towards the end of season three, stopping by Wayne Manor upon her departure to say goodbye to Bruce. Finding Bruce is not there, she confides in Alfred and tells him she is finally respecting her father’s wishes of enrolling in a military school, making a joke of how the “discipline might be good for [her]”. Her final appearance comes in season five, in the finale, with a wedding-dress clad Lorna Lovestrange gazing out the window of (what is believed to be) Thomas Elliot’s house as the bat signal hits the crisp dark of the sky.
DCEU
Lorna’s most popular iteration had meant to be introduced in David Ayers’ Suicide Squad, but her scenes were ultimately cut from the film in an attempt to streamline the story. The deleted scenes can be found in the Director’s Cut, showing Lorna and Harleen in Arkham together. She returns briefly later on in the film as one of Flag’s soldiers, and is present during Harley’s torture in Belle Reve. To compensate for the large age-gap between Ben Affleck and Samara Weaving, Lorna’s previous friendship connection to Wayne was transferred to that of Dick Grayson, and Lorna was made into Bruce Wayne’s goddaughter instead.
All of this is retconned in Birds of Prey, as Harley and Lorna are roommates above Doc’s place. Given that Harley was convicted and sentenced for the murder of the Robin, Birds of Prey decidedly turn a blind-eye to the previously failed and deleted characterisation of Lovestrange, but returned Samara Weaving to the role. Lorna is not present much in the film, save for an expository throwaway line by Harley (“You can stay with me, my roomie’s outta town. Somethin’ ‘bout a weddin’. Can’t believe she didn’t invite me, some friend, right?”) paired with a brief compilation of Lorna Lovestrange’s deranged attempts at escape from Thomas Elliot, resulting in the consequent massacre and fire at the Elliot Estate.
It is in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad that she makes her true DCEU debut. Having been sentenced to Belle Reve following her crimes in Gotham, Lorna is sent as a part of Flag’s entourage to the island of Corto Maltese. She was the only one Walker told about the intent of the first team to be used as a distraction, her purpose on the team being to look out for Flag. She manages to get Flag off the beach, but when she, against Waller’s wishes, goes back for Harley, Flag is captured by the rebels. Lorna regroups with Bloodsport’s team in an attempt to earn back Waller’s favour. Throughout the film, Lorna and Rick develop a banterous flirtation. They reference a fleeting history with each other — a professional relationship, nothing more — but heavily imply that should they make it off that cursed island alive, there is a strong possibility for there to be something more. Lorna takes it incredibly hard when Rick dies by the Peacemaker’s hand, but pulls herself together long enough to help her team to save the world.
Lorna’s arrival in Peacemaker was only hinted at in the Pilot, with Amanda Waller warning Leota Adebayo that a mystery “she” has escaped Belle Reve, and for Leota to watch her and the Peacemaker’s backs. The first episode ends with Lorna having caught up to Christopher Smith, now adorned in an all-black suit — reminiscent of her comic book run during her Cannonade military days — and hair coloured ginger. All previous character design of tattoos and piercings — suggestive of Lorna’s instability and reckless nature — have been removed, giving Lovestrange a much more clean-cut and inconspicuous appearance. In the opening of the second episode, we receive a self-narrated montage of Lorna hearing of Peacemaker surviving his injuries, her consequent escape from Belle Reve, the painful process of laser tattoo removal, Harley dyeing her hair for her in a mirroring scene to Harley’s haircut in Birds of Prey, and the introduction of Lorna’s therapist: the exasperated Dr. Florentine de la Cruz. We see Lorna hunting down any and all leads on Christopher Smith in a parody of a hardened and gruff private-eye, before cutting back to a confused Smith in present day, wondering why Lorna felt the need to expostion dump on him. With Vigilante’s assistance, Peacemaker makes his getaway, which prompts Lorna to hunt him throughout the series, showing up at increasingly worsening times. Towards the end of the season, Lorna learns of the extraterrestrial threat to the earth and puts aside her vendetta to assist the 11th Street Kids. She grows close to Adrian Chase during that time, but is ultimately cockblocked by the potential end of the world. Christopher later apologises to Lorna for the part he played in Rick's death, and although she still doesn’t much like him, they make peace; pun intended.
THE BATMAN
Returning to the status quo of childhood friendship gone awry, Lorna Lovestrange’s first appearance in Matt Reeves’ The Batman comes at the mayor’s funeral. Daughter to instruments of Gotham’s influence, Lorna’s presence was deemed mandatory. She lights up immediately after having spied Bruce in the crowd, but her attempts of reconnecting with him are rebuffed. Visibly stung by his indifference, she makes to leave before Bruce, in an endeavour to salvage what little bond they have left, asks her about her time in Arkham — insinuating the beginning of her comic book origins. She is about to respond before Colson interrupts them. Lorna snaps into action, helping the police get everyone to safety. She is then later seen at the end of the film during Bruce's narration of Gotham being put under martial law. We catch a brief shot of her beside Bella Reál during her address to the public. Lorna is accompanied by men in military gear, suggesting she is spear-heading the operation. Eagle-eyed fans will be able to spot the name “Cannonade” written on the folder in her hands.
