Tips For How To Design A Website
Are you wondering how to create the best websites? Would you prefer to avoid paying someone to design the site for you? In this article, we will share some valuable information to help you build your very own excellent website affordably or even  WordPress website templates free.
Don't use OnExit popups on your website. This tactic is mainly used by internet marketers who are trying a last-ditch attempt to get a sale. Word about these kinds of popups get around, and they will kill your reputation as a marketer. Mozilla has even taken steps to suppress the text on these popups, citing security risks.
Tumblr media
Avoid using frames. Most sites have abandoned frames on their own as better alternatives have become available, but there are still sites out there that are trapped in 1996. Alternatives to navigational frames include fixed-position navigation panels, having navigation in multiple areas (e.g. left and bottom) or simplifying page structure so that navigational links are never far away.
Test your site to see if the major translation services work properly when translating your site. Some sites receive many international visitors, and these visitors sometimes use services like BabelFish and Google Translate to translate the text to their language. Certain web design problems, especially poor server side code, can break these services.
If you desire feedback from your visitors, design your site to include a feedback form rather than a guestbook. A feedback form lets your site visitors contact you without having anything negative be shown to everyone else who sees your site. If you have a guestbook then everyone can read both good and bad comments, something you really do not want people to see, especially when the comments are negative.
Follow the tips presented here to produce a good, basic professional website. An effective website is the absolute best tool for you to market your business online. Best of luck to you in all your endeavors!

Hi!!
I’ve been super inspired by your blog and want to try coding my own personal website from scratch, I’m just not sure where to go for hosting it! Is Wordpress a must even without using templates? Every resource on this turns out to be an ad for Squarespace. What worked for you/what would you recommend?
Thank you!
hi hi, i put the source code for my website up on github yesterday (link below), and as most personal blogs by like nerdy folks it doesn't use a CMS or anything but a static site generator (in my case eleventy) which allows you to write blog posts and stuff in templates with usually markdown and then compiles it all to static html files so your site requires barely any resources and doesn't really have ANY attack surface. feel free to look at how i did my site to get a bit of an idea of the possibilities!

Once More - On Creating a Personal Website
Over the weekend, I wrote the above post on my main blog about a new FREE webhost called Nekoweb. While I still use Neocities myself, I just wanted to toss this out here as an alternative, especially given where sites like this and WordPress are going in terms of the lack of your content's safety and your control of your work.
Learning basic HTML is pretty straightforward, and there's lots of templates out there to get you started. Once you get the hang of it, you might surprise yourself with how much fun you have designing your own site and not being held back by anyone else's design and content choices!
The cool thing is, you can make your own website, then link your stuff here (like I did above) to share it to any social media you like. But it's not TIED specifically to Tumblr or X or Bluesky because you host it somewhere else. So, you can still post it to social media to get the word out about your writing or art, while maintaining control of where it lives in the long run.
HTML files can be backed up. So if something happens to your host, as long as you keep your website files on your computer or other media, you can always turn around and upload it to a new host. No fear of having your stuff wiped forever because it's locked in a social media account database you can never reach.
Just some considerations!

New Pinned post. Old Navigation Post.
Tumblr media
Hi, I'm Manon. And I create Interactive Fiction for fun. Sometimes in French, sometimes in English, and in both when I can. Currently a dozen playable games in various state and free templates and guides.
I post weekly dev logs about my project progress. I also write reviews of IF games (@manonamora-if-reviews).
I also made a whole resource list for Twine (guide, macro, templates).
Ask me stuff about stuff :P
Tumblr media
If I'm not there, I'm also in a bunch of other places (cause nothing is forever with social media), where I'll post updates about stuff. I also have a carrd about this. But really, I'm usually most on the IntFiction forum or the @neointeractives Discord.
Website: on neocities (i'm trying to set up a RSS feed)
Blog: manonamora (WordPress)
itch.io: manonamora
Cohost: manonamora
Mastodon: manonamora (on gamedev)
Pillowfort: manonamora (IF group)
Discord: I'm on a bunch of different IF-related servers, if you see a manonamora with this icon, it's probably me. 🤫
Note: not all links above are as active as here currently, but they will start to be more from now on, because I don't want to rely on one place only to share news. This was always going to happen, but now it's concrete.
My IF games are playable on itch.io, listed on the IFDB (for reviews), with some backed up in the IFArchive. I sometimes post code on GitHub.
Other Tumblrs: @crimsonroseandwhitelily (sideblog IF), @neointeractives, @neo-twiny-jam, @seedcomp-if
Tumblr media
Since 2021, I've released a dozen of projects or WIPs, most of those being Interactive Fiction pieces. While the majority have been made with Twine (SugarCube), I've been testing other formats and programs.
I've also created templates and coding guides for SugarCube, as well as prompts. Both templates and prompts are free to use under the CC-BY license.
All projects and relevant links are listed under the cut.

Apologies if you’ve answered this sort of question before but may I ask how you made your website? As a writer who’s looking into publishing stuff online I’ve done some (admittedly rather minimal) research on making websites but I really like the way yours is set up and haven’t so far seen a good way to accomplish a straightforward navigation system like you have. Did you just purchase a domain and start from scratch or was there some sort of template you were able to build off of? I am still in the process of figuring out how websites work to begin with - feel free to discard I just really like your set up and was wondering how you put it together
I made a free Wordpress website and just poked around their templates until I found something I could live with. It's not set up exactly how I want but that's because I don't know anything about programming. I upgraded to a paid site when my patreon income made that viable.
But yeah it's a free Wordpress template. I just designed it to make it as easy as possible for people to find the pages they wanted (which should be the #1 priority in all website design, so many websites are full of bullshit).

Hello! I love the website for your electus comic it’s so clean and easy to follow! I was wondering if you host it on a website or make it from scratch? A lot of webcomic sites don’t have any information on how they were made and I certainly don’t want to copy anyones design, I would like to start posting a webcomic online one day though. Are there any tips you could give to someone new to website creation. Right direction to start in for example?
Ah im glad its easy to navigate, but I will be honest with you, I date a graphic designer who handled the whole build for me, because I so much as look at a computer wrong and it freezes up on me :')
The good news however is I watched them make it, it seemed very intuative and simple, and they were able to teach even me the back end, so adding pages is super simple. It is hosted on SquareSpace, and it comes with templates, easy to use tools, and because its so widely known and paid for, theres SO many tutorials! It's very easy to do with a small amount of effort to wacth some videos.
You can pay varying ammounts per year (and month I believe) to host, which I do, to make it available to all who want to view it without costs to them. Its not for everyone, and is from what I recall, roughly £160/$200 a year for the domain I use, though there are varying packages and prices. Many creators choose to use comic sites like tapastic or the likes, as its a free version, but due to legalities, artists have been veering away from that to protect their creations.
Honestly, I think theres a lot to be said for youtube tutorials, people have been swearing by squarepsace for yeaaaars now, and the interface is very simple and easy compared to other web building options (wordpress im looking at you, youre terrible)
While we did not use templates or preset fonts (partner made it all custom to make it unique) the site offers SO many good options that can be edited to suit your needs, so no need for complex processes if its an option you choose to go for.
Sorry I couldnt be more help, im a huge technophobe, anything electrical seems to hate me haha
At least you have some names for things and can dig further from here, good luck bud! you got this.

Who Is Ren T.
Hello everyone, this is my personal blog, where I post my short stories, manuscript chapters, and anything else that interests me. My main blog is TheWriteAdviceForWriters
Tumblr media
Why did I create TheWriteAdviceForWriters
Writing is my dream, I love the art of writing stories created from your mind and imagination. I've always had a big imagination since I was young. Once I discovered I wanted to be a writer. I went straight ahead to researching. There were many websites that helped with creative writing and it was so helpful to have an already made guide for new writers or any leveled writers. I also always had a passion for teaching and bringing knowledge to others, I love researching and learning about things that really interest me. So, I thought why not make a blog/brand to help writers like myself? and that's where it began...
Where did I come up with the name
I wanted people to be attracted to my brand, and wanted to let others know I'll be giving them the right advice, So I decided to change "right" into "write" to make it sound more wittful.
What does TheWriteAdviceForWriters Offer?
I wanted to make TheWriteAdviceForWriters as flexible as possible, with the goal to have EVERYTHING you need to start your writing journey. TWAFWs offers-
Great advice for writing fiction
How to guides for a variety of topics in creative writing
Modern & aesthetic workbooks for you to print or fill in digitally
A vast range of new, underrated and popular resources for writers
A blogger who answers your questions with informative details (me)
Notion Templates
Templates of any kind, like blurb templates, YouTube descriptions template, synopsis templates and more
New book recommendations, and even book reviews
Guides on your author social media
A YouTube channel with everything you need for writing
Another YouTube Channel for playlists to listen to while working/writing
Secret tips and tricks for writing (In any fiction genre)
Courses for fiction
An upcoming proofreading and editing service (Coming soon)
A Discord community for writers
Tutorials and more
I wanted to make sure to make this the place for every writer. There's still so much upcoming to this brand that I have in stored for writers like you.
What is the upcoming proofreading and editing service?
I'm working on a service to help you with your stories. Perhaps there's something with your story that isn't sitting right with you. Like you fell into a plot hole or need ideas, need to make your prose prettier or just need better scenes. I'm working on a service just for writers to help them with any of those problems. It's still a WIP
But it's going to be pretty big for writers alike, and the best part there's going to be a FREE option. So excited honestly!
Ren T.'s Bio
My name is Ren T. And I love writing historical fiction, fantasy, romance, thriller, and everything between. I own TheWriteAdviceForWriters a brand to help you with your creative writing journey.
small Q&A
Where are you from? The USA California
What's your name? - Ren T. But call me Ren
What's your dream? - To publish many novels. And study at Oxford
How long does it take you to write your blogs? - It usually takes me a day or two, or if it's short perhaps around five hours. I work really hard with researching and writing, my goal for my blog posts is to sound as professional and witty as possible to make it entertaining. I usually write 1-2 blog posts a day and post them when I think is the best time.

If I disappear from society, don't be surprised.
I am so so so tired of capitalism.
For Christmas I got a Raspberry Pi. The goal was to host my own website off it. This was entirely for fun.
Step one: set up raspberry Pi so I can host a site on it. Easy. Ubuntu is free (thank fuck), I know how to set it up, but hold on! According to xfinity, I cannot change dmz or dms rules on their router. I can't even REQUEST it. I can't even use a workaround because I'm not allowed to edit the port forward that was automatically added to my router. I dig through years old forums and find out that this is because I'm using the modem provided by xfinity. I now have to buy a new modem from xfinity's "approved list".
Step two: get a domain. I swim through 4 million outrageous prices that say shit like "pay $0.01 for the first year!" with the text below saying "with purchase of 3 year agreement". I finally get to godaddy and am able to convince the stupid checkout to give me 1 year of my domain (after, of course, it corrected my awful mistake to 3 years and, if I hadn't been hyper-vigilant, I wouldn't have noticed. I have to dig through 5 pages in settings to find a way to turn off auto pay because I know better by now. While I'm there I also turn off all email notifications, which were all automatically on. It also didn't tell me that I can't transfer my domain outside of godaddy for 60 days, so I just essentially paid for something I can't use for 2 months. Great. (out of curiosity, I dug through godaddy for some time. The 60 day thing appears nowhere except on the help center page when specifically searching for it.)
Step three: create a site. WordPress, once my most beloved website creation software, now slams subscription fees on me like cardi B audios on teenager girls's tiktoks. Unrelenting. Bloodthirsty. I power through to just get past "let AI design your site!" and "pick one of our patterns" so I can reach the point where I can edit the template. I already have a free template zip file. I drop it in the box. "wait!" says WordPress, in a screen-covering popup "upgrade to the creator plan to access the theme install features!" I click the only button on the screen. It takes me IMMEDIATELY to a filled out checkout page. WordPress Creator is $300 per year. Per. Year.
I read through the "features included with your purchase" to see things like "sftp/SSH certificates", "github deployments", "free staging site", and "install plugins and themes". All of these were free 5 years ago. "Save 20% by paying for two years!" No, I don't think I will.
Out of pure spite against the demon that is modern capitalism, I'm teaching myself html and css. I would kiss the creator of w3schools on the mouth, right after I kiss the creator of Ubuntu. I'm so angry. The internet is useless now.
