More than one Monarch (DP AU)

So you know the ghost zone, the 'flip side' of the physical world, portals to different dimensions, time, and space. The Infinite Realms basically exist anywhere/anytime in creation. Who says there aren't various rulers in other 'corners' of the Ghost Zone/Infinite Realms. You have beings like Dora and Frostbite who rule 'areas/islands' in the Ghost Zone, why not beings who rule a 'realm' in the Inifinite 'Realms' Look I just want Danny (little baby man, eldritch being, the one everyone adopts) Phantom to meet other "Undead" Rulers. And possibly get adopted/learn from them. Currently, the main one I have is Giratina, another unwilling ruler of the Distortion Realm. Another Eldritch snake being that was banished to the Distortion Realm for being too violent. (Unfair obviously, why can Palkia be Dialga fight and destroy places but when Giratina does it they’re too violent and need to be banished?? this is a joke) So possibly mellowed out after being there for so long but still hates some beings, and is wary of humans.

They could meet before Danny’s coronation while he’s exploring the ghost zone, or after, but in my head they meet before. Danny would show up unintentionally as always (since the fruitloop sent him into a portal with a one-time spell to be “banished” into the Distortion for a 'time out'). And while this place is in the ghost zone, there aren’t any other ghosts around, and this place looks different from the normal ghost zone, until he runs into Giratina. Gira is totally a menace and would battle Danny for entering their domain, but they would be more testing the waters of this being, seeing for his intent. Since the “Distortion” is more closely linked to the “living side”, any damage to that place can affect the other side. So other beings are warned off (vibe checked) by Giratina most of the time. Giratina would be impressed by the sheer gall of the boy willing to fistfight a God and his ability to learn on the fly, which would allow him access to the Distortion Realm with good intentions. Teach him how to fight with more than just his fists, he has a tail, and why limit to just his hands? And how to weave his intangibility into his fighting. Also giving a safe space since all Danny has to do is speak “Giratina” into any reflective surface and a portal to the Distortion Realm will open for him. (Clockwork would definitely appreciate and respect Giratina and vice versa for being willing to mentor the goblin child)

(You tell me that Danny doesn’t have the attitude to realize he’s fighting some eldritch being and still try to punch it anyways.)

Solmare came out with a new game that is related to Obey Me called "Ruri Tunes" that can be downloaded on the Google App Store (unsure about Apple store).

It starts off with a really cute starting screen with Leviathan's voice actor saying a line.

Then it goes to the "How to play" screens. It seems complicated at first, but it is pretty easy, especially if you've played rythm games before.

After hitting "Next", you're brought to a difficulty screen. You can choose between 2 normal levels, 2 hard levels, and 1 extreme level. There is also an option for the playstyle — that is where you tap. You can either tap left/right, where you tap the left side of the screen for the bottom row and you can tap the right side of the screen for the top row. Then there's the other option: top/bottom. This one is obvious, top for the top row, bottom for the bottom row.

Right before the game starts, you get an animation of these three cards sliding onto the screen.

The gameplay is pretty simple: tap the marker (the star with a circle around it) when one of the enemies (a piece of candy or a shark, both can be pink or blue) overlaps it. I have no screenshots of the actual gameplay unfortunately as I was focused on winning.

You have 50 chances to miss (I'm not sure if the number changes in Hard & Extreme modes as I've just played Normal). You will get a ranking and high score after defeating the boss, who is a Little D. The Little D will throw missiles (exactly like the enemies!) and occasionally comes up to the three characters. That is when you have to tap the enemy to deal it damage.

After hitting next, you have three choices: choose another difficulty, read the "How to play" screen again, or fill out the questionnaire that asks about the best and worst parts of the game.

so i’m re-reading homestuck. currently i’m near the beginning of act 5. assorted thoughts:

1. rose is so fucking funny. fanfic writers never remember this

2. speaking of rose — her classpect means that in fanart and fanfic, her mysterious seer-iness is highly emphasized. but in acts 1 through 4, the mysterious one is jade. DREAM VISIONS! ENIGMATIC HINTS AT PROPHECY! TIME LOOP BULLSHIT! jade is THE mysterious seer-adjacent character. meanwhile, rose acts like she knows what’s going on but she basically never does. as a result, fanfic especially gives the mysterious-seer attributes to rose and jade is just sort of… there. (i am kinda guilty of this myself.) my new 2024 slogan: let jade be enigmatic as fuck!

3. the first time vriska ever appears — unless you count her username appearing without being directly referenced, which happens pretty early — is at the very very edge of a panel, in which you can see one of her horns. that happens a few times pre-act-five, especially in panels that involve terezi. honestly most terezi conversations pre-act-five get funnier if you imagine vriska looking over her shoulder like ::::/ or like ::::D

4. the fandom image of karkat is highly positive. the idea of his character is kinda locked to karkat as he appears in act 6 (maybe late act 5?), and fan depictions of early karkat (pre-sgrub, or simply early act 5) seem to retrospectively plaster his later characterization onto his earlier self. his general assholery is interpreted as blunted grumpiness that no one really takes seriously. that interpretation more or less makes sense for later versions of his character, but it’s startling how genuinely mean he is in early act 5! he’s such a jerk that in a conversation with early act 5 vriska he comes off looking worse! that’s HARD. and a really interesting facet of his character!

Gareth notices first and as soon as Gareth has a thought he has to share it.

They’re at Hellfire (now hosted in Mike Wheeler’s armpit of a basement) having just finished a long combat when Eddie declares it time for a break and without any further preamble dashes up the stairs, taking them two at a time, and calling dibs on the main bathroom. 

The others are taking a bit longer to get to their break. They all stand like they’re in some kind of synchronised swimming competition and all reach up in unison to crack the various bones that need to, heaving out groans and mumbles about shitty chairs. 

“So,” Gareth says as he rubs his fingers in his eyes. “Eddie has a crush.” 

Jeff collapses back in his chair to burry his face in folded arms with a groan. “I can’t do this again, Gare-Bear.”

Gareth wrinkles his nose at the nickname, and mentally curses his mom for using it around his friends. They’ve never been able to let it go. 

“Wait, what?” Dustin asks. His head is bouncing between Gareth, Jeff, and Grant, eyes tracking over their faces to see if they’re just trying to fuck with him. As if Eddie’s love life wasn’t already tragic enough without the added fun of trying to bother some kids with it.

Grant nodded sagely. “Unfortunately, it only gets worse from here.” 

Mike, who had been half way towards the stairs, now joins in. “What gets worse? He’s being normal Eddie, or like, as normal as Eddie can get.” 

Gareth shares a long look with his bandmates, all seemingly coming to the same conclusion. These kids were here to stay, that much had become clear after the Spring Break/Eddie in a coma Saga, so they could be let in on a few Eddie secrets, not the big one, never the big one until Eddie told them. These were more secrets about Eddie that Eddie was completely unknowledgeable about. 

“You remember the bartender at The Three Brothers we spoke to to find out about the curse?” Gareth says, somehow becoming the voice for the older members of Hellfire. “Did you notice the way Eddie described him?”

“He talked a lot about his hair?” Will offered quietly. He was new to Hellfire so Gareth didn’t really know him, but just from the way Will played his cleric, he could tell that he was a damn sight more observant than his friends. 

“Exactly!” Gareth pointed. “That is Clue 1 in the ‘Eddie Munson Has a Crush’ textbook. He gets so hung up on that one thing that he likes the most about who he’s crushing on, get ready to hear a lot about the NPC’s hair. Clue 2 is that when he comes thundering down those stairs in a minute and realises we haven’t actually done anything with our break, he won’t be shitty about us taking extra time. He just gets nice outta nowehere.”

“Eddie always hates when he has to wait for us though!” 

Jeff finally pulled his head up from his arms. “Just watch, and it’s the one good thing that’s going to come from this crush, so make the most of it.” 

The four boys all gave each other looks that seemed to be conveying a whole conversation. They seemed to come to the same conclusion just as Eddie, as Jeff predicted, thundered down the stairs, skipping the last one so he could jump to the floor and theatrically clap his hands. 

“Who’s ready to get fucked up by what I have planned next?” He asked, not even noticing the way the rest of the boys hadn’t moved from their places stretching next to the table. 

“Sorry man. I still gotta go to the bathroom,” Lucas quickly said before Dustin could start grilling Eddie about his crush. 

Eddie shrugged with a smile. “No worries, Sinclair. You gotta go when you gotta go, right?” 

This was particularly offensive to Mike, who when he first joined Hellfire had been forced to squirm in his seat for over an hour while Eddie threatened to kill his PC off if Mike left the table to use the bathroom. He turned his gobsmacked expression to Gareth who could only raise his eyebrows in a kind of ‘told you so’ gesture. 

Lucas, to his credit, didn’t let on that he was also gobsmacked and rushed up the stairs. Will and Mike followed him quickly, stumbling out an excuse about getting more drinks. Eddie being amenable was seemingly still too new to let them make the most of it, the Corroded Coffin boys had at least been through this three notable times before.

“Get me a coke while you’re up there, please?” Eddie called out after them. He kicked up his feet to rest on the edge of the table, crossed at the ankles and rocked back onto the back two legs of his chair. He turned to the Corroded Coffin boys. “I’ve been thinking about arranging this song, not our usual style but I think it could sound totally metal if I did it right.” 

“What song?” Jeff asked carefully. 

Grant caught Dustin’s eye and mouthed ‘Clue 3′. Dustin nodded as if he were mentally taking notes, which if Gareth knew anything about the kid, he probably was. He took to the puzzles Eddie laid out for them with more gusto than anyone else. 

Eddie closed his eyes and brought his hands up in front of him as if he were tenderly cradling his warlock. His fingers worked over imaginary frets. “Dancing in the Dark. Springsteen.” 

“That’s Steve’s favourite song,” Dustin blurted out, clamping his hand over his mouth when Eddie’s fingers paused in the air. 

A slow smile spread over his face. “Is it?”

Gareth turned to his best friends to see the expression he wore mirrored two times over. 

Holy shit. 

Eddie was crushing on Steve Harrington.

More than one Monarch (Part 2!)

So part 1 was Giratina, or at least a part of a part. I still have some more, but I want to explore each 'part' a bit before expanding another 'part'. Not that these all have to connect but it could be, nothing is fun when things are ruled harshly. (unless it's a magic system but that's not here or there)

So the next part is...

Hades!

(picture is not mine) Or at least leaning into that lore? Pandora is in DP already, who says I can't just pick some things to throw into DP (or throw DP into Hades). Plus having this brain rot since Hades 2 had a trailer recently. Could have the two 'princes' hang out together and be menaces together, heckling Zag's dad cause Danny does have the desire to mess with authority. Sassy quips left and right, competitions with Thanatos (more sassy banter), Cujo and Cerberus playing ghost dog fetch. The possibilities!

My original idea for this was Persephone being the 'original halfa', a headcanon of when she was taken to the Underworld she was still alive, but when she ate the pomegranate seed she became half dead, forever becoming a part of the Ghost Zone but since she was a goddess of life she couldn't become 'fully dead'. Literally a Queen of Death and Life, a Goddess of Seasons more or less by causing growth and decay depending on her station. (being in the underworld causes winter, then visiting her mother Demeter so the season would change from winter to summer) She even has a name change to go with her transformation of becoming a Halfa! (That bit is because the being 'Kore' is/could be Persephone, but another theory suggests it's a different entity altogether, but this is my headcanon, not fact, I'm cherry-picking here) Dreaded Death Queen Persephone (Ghost), Vegetation Goddess Kore (Alive). (She has many titles and names, but these are the main two I'm sticking with)

So lo and behold, Danny crosses time and space again, somehow landing in "The Underworld" and meeting the Princeling Zagreus, Zag goes "cool a free brother!" or "A new friend! or more?" and takes him on a journey to meet his mom, which could be his first time succeeding or did this before, and Persephone notices Danny is just like her. A being with bonds with both Life and Death, which is a first for her, that doesn't count Zag since he was born in the Underworld and is already a prince of it, he's 1/4th living, or just fully 'dead'.

"I always wanted another child!" Oh no not another adopter. Could just be a mentor too. They have a great time, Danny could even meet Melinoë (as a baby?). Shenanigans are had, lessons are learned, and bonds are acquired. Both Danny and Zag learn how to be better rulers together and create a good bond between the dimensions of both the "Ghost Zone" and "Underworld" dimensions.

"Ah, you're having a 'Ghost' problem, not an 'Underworld' problem. Let me inform my good friend the Ghost King and he'll be here soon enough." "There's more than one King???"

"See, I deal with Ghosts. My good friend Zag deals with souls, I'll summon him right now!" "Why is he wearing a flaming crown like you?" "Cause he's also a King, duh." "WHY DO WE HAVE MORE THAN ONE KING OF DEATH IN HERE?!"

Again, could be after Danny is made Ghost King, or Before just in the middle of his canon before Pariah Dark and all that drama. Or it could be when he's older than canon, I didn't set this in stone it's an idea.

I'll make a different part for the idea of Halfa!Persephone, one that does include the AU!Ghost King with Danny for sure.

It might not be my best work since I struggled a lot lately but I did something and thought I should share it anyway and let you know how much I love the story and everything you write. You manage to create such beautiful, inspiring scenes, I find myself wanting to draw them all each chapter. It wasn’t easy to choose, so I just went with the last scene (I started this when ch. 9 dropped). I hope it’s not too bothersome that I took some liberties with Tav’s representation, it's not necessarily how I imagine her physical appearance. Ideas that don’t involve much of Tav’s image came after this was done so maybe next time… Traditional art. Watercolors, gouache, colored pencils and ink on A4 paper. Edited in PS. Trolls headcanon dump!

- Bruce absolutely teaches JD and Viva how to surf, everyone else wants to just chill at the beach

- Floyd’s favorite color is actually red, not because of love, but because it’s powerful

- JD craves touch because he’s touch starved, but gets easily overwhelmed even if he initiates it, and has to take breaks. He hates it.

- Poppy heard Floyd stick up for himself once and immediately copied him and used his example to help train herself to stop people pleasing so much as a queen

- Clay went through Gristle’s tax files and found his records impeccable, Gristle stayed on top of all his finances, whether through delegation or by himself, Clay will never know

- Branch loves to fall asleep to music when he’s not having a sleepover with Poppy. Either sad songs or alternative music is his favorite for bedtime

- Bruce loves bragging about his brothers to his kids, so they all knew his brother’s names even though they’d never met their uncles yet

- JD spoils the fuck out of his niece, and Branch teaches her self defense

- Floyd and Poppy are besties, they have spa nights with Smidge and Guy Diamond and they all spill tea and drop lore until the wee hours of the morning

- JD is the type of guy to see one of his bros Just Sitting There and say 🫵 cmere and give them a full chiropractic adjustment. He learned it from some country trolls during his wandering years

- Floyd met quite a bit of people during his solo career, but didn’t have any close friends or band mates. When he sees someone he knows, they’re secretly really happy for him, because he’s back with his little brother whom he talked so much about.

- Branch learns how to braid hair so he can do it back to Viva, and surprises Poppy by braiding her hair one day. She is amazed and so proud.

- Clay likes techno music because the sounds remind him of math and numbers, with their electronic and patterned sounds

- Bruce steals JD’s recipes and adds some to his restaurant menu, and they become very popular

- Floyd mentions offhand to Poppy that he enjoys having a skincare routine but hasn’t been able to do it in awhile, so she grabs products from every tribe and makes a gift basket for him and he almost cries
