okay okay WE BACK ON THE DAUGHTER OF NEPTUNE GRIND
sally adopts you instantly
her sweet salt water girl
your birthday is basically branded into the calendar along side percy's
then annabeth's is added
then jason's
then everyone elses, all of which are color coded
sally just be collecting demigod children like pokemon frfr
she doesn't care that your a daughter of neptune or whatever, doesn't even care to listen to it as she drags you into the kitchen and shoves blue cookies into your face
you and percy get matching tattoos (other than the camp jupiter ones)
below your ankles, percy got a little wave and you got a little seashell
you two lied and told everyone it was to keep you guys connected but in reality it was a lost bet to the stoll's
who were sworn to secrecy
christmases are always spent at the jackson-blofis household
at first it was just you and percy, then sally allowed jason and annabeth to come too
that then turned into a household filled with demigods, with two on the couch, four on air mattresses in the living room, and then you and percy shared a room
hazel and frank always took the couch, leo loved the air mattresses and always tried to see if he could send someone flying by jumping on it, piper always the victim as they shared. and annabeth and jason would start on the air mattresses, but always find their way to their significant other's room
it took jason three christmases to finally sneak into your room, while annabeth did it the very first second she could
look, he was scared of authority okay, leave him alone
also, doesn't help that you and percy shared a room
i just know percy was glaring up a storm
jk jk he actually likes jason, as much as a brother can like his little sister's boyfriend
he likes how soft jason is with you, gentle hands pushing your hair behind your ears and setting plates of food before you without being told
he can appreciate that jason is good for his sister, but he also loves to put on a show
"MOM! JASON GRABBED Y/N'S BUTT!!" he shouts out of nowhere, jason instantly turning the color of a traffic light and throwing his hands up like he's under arrest
"PERCY! HE DIDN'T, MOM, I SWEAR!" you're shouting back, shoving at percy with your hands
"I SAW IT WITH MY OWN EYES, YOU'RE NOT GONNA TRUST YOUR OWN SON, MOM??"
"I'M GONNA KILL YOU, YOU LYING PIECE OF GREEK-"
"BOTH OF YOU, KNOCK IT OFF!! look, you broke jason," sally cut in, gesturing to jason, who had still yet to move
percy looked all smug until you shoved his face down into his blue pancakes, which were naturally soaked in syrup
"you suck."
"and you swallow."
"STOP YOU'RE JUST GONNA MAKE JASON WORSE."
poor baby boy
as much as he loves you, refuses to touch you when percy or sally or really anyone is around
he's too proper and scared of pda
he's grown to be okay with holding your hand but even like brushing his hand against your waist and he's apologizing and blushing and pulling back
jason and percy both carry a lot of trauma from their amnesia and the only reason they talked about it with each other was because of you
jason talked to you about it by himself
and then percy talked about it to you by himself
and you were like...why don't they talk to each other about it???
so you locked them in the poseidon cabin and made them talk about it and it was actually super healing
"i just...everytime i forget something, it feels like im gonna forget it all, ya know?" percy murmured, pretending to superrrr interested in a spot on the floor
"if anyone knows, it's me. gods, i worry everyday that i'm gonna wake up and it's all just...going to be gone again. and what if this time, i don't get it back? i dont- i don't get her back. i got lucky, but luck always runs out," jason replied, eyes locked on the lake, which he could see through the window
"i think you'd always remember parts of her. i mean, i did with annabeth and didnt you remember y/n's eyes? i think the gods can only take away so much, i think they left behind residue because they couldn't get rid of all that. all those emotions, all those feelings, all those memories. it's a lot to erase completely," reasoned percy with a shrug before looking up at jason, his lips qurking
"you thinking what im thinking?" he offered and jason pulled his eyes from the lake with a frown.
"statistically speaking, probably not."
"wanna read y/n's diary??"
"what?! no, percy-"
"i've seen some pretty juicy stuff about you in there, grace."
"...just a peek won't hurt, right?"
they did, in fact, not just take a peek
read the whole thing
jason was super smiley coming up to you, proudly pressing a kiss to your cheek, which surprised you as you were aware of his pda issues
"looks who's all happy!! good chat with percy?" you asked with a giggle as he took your hand into his, pressing his lips to the back of your hand, drawing more giggles from you
"yeah, something like that. we just talked about, oh, i dunno, how my eyes remind him of the color of the summer sky when he was 12. oh, and how my skin just looks so nice covered in sweat and-"
"YOU READ MY DIARY, YOU LITTLE SHIT!"
"IT WAS PERCY'S IDEA!!" jason snitched instantly as he tugged his hand free and bolted away
"GREAT! I WAS LOOKING FOR A REASON TO KILL YOU BOTH!! GET BACK HERE, YOU ROMAN MOTHERFUCKER!"

Written for my Year of Olympians and part of a bigger challenge being run by @yearofcreation2023! It features a ton of other awesome creators and runs all year, so go check it out!
Fandom: Percy Jackson
Prompt: Dionysus; Wine, Cups, Dolphins, and Goats
Summary: Percy's cousin and friend on Sally's side helps him celebrate his 21st birthday right.
Word Count: 1,843
Category: Fluff
A/N: I also wrote this oneshot with Percy and his cousin being besties, loosely related to this one! You don't need to read one to understand the other, but in my mind they're in the same universe
Putting work into an AI program without permission is illegal. You do not have my permission. Do not do it.
"IDs, please."
I grinned and nudged my cousin excitedly as he pulled out his driver's license and handed it to the bouncer before us. Tonight was his 21st birthday, and this officially marked the first time he got to use his card to get in somewhere.
"Okay, go ahead," said the bouncer, passing our IDs back before stepping aside. "And happy birthday."
"Thanks," said Percy with a smile and a nod as we headed into the bar. I beamed at him, dropping my hands onto his shoulders and jumping up and down a little.
"Welcome to adulthood, Perce! First round's on me, but you put in the order."
"Alright," said Percy, laughing a little at my antics but heading over to the bar with a smile anyway.
After a full-family day of celebrating Percy's 21st birthday, I'd asked for the honor of taking him to his first bar. He'd been all in, and I'd brought him to my favorite place in the city.
Despite being close cousins if you looked at a family tree, I hadn't gotten to be a part of Percy's life until the very end of his high school career. I'd been separate from the family I shared with him and Sally, escaping a bad situation when I was young without looking back. Once I'd gotten to college in New York, however, and knew I had family in the area, I decided to reach out and see if it would be worth reconnecting. And it had turned out to be the best decision I could've made.
My Aunt Sally was absolutely incredible, that went without saying. The few memories I had of her from when I was young were the things that had made me want to reach out in the first place. But finding Percy, who was only a few years younger than me, was like getting the little brother I'd always wanted. Even a little later, when a monster almost took my head off when Percy and I were out getting lunch and I learned about all the Greek mythology stuff, I didn't have even a second of regret over having these people in my life.
Luckily for me, Sally's clear-sightedness ran in the family, so I wasn't completely out of the loop when things came up. And, even better, I could look around the bar and feel confident no monsters were about to interrupt me and my little cousin celebrating his 21st birthday.
"Alright, first a toast," I said, raising my glass towards Percy once we had our drinks. He lifted his, too, grinning at me as I continued. "To you, Percy Jackson, hero of AHS swim team, son of Sally Jackson, and the best cousin I could've ever hoped for."
We clinked glasses, Percy still absolutely beaming, and took the first sips of our drinks. The night had officially begun.
We stayed in the bar for a few hours, laughing and dancing to the live band and occasionally refilling our drinks. Finally though, with a little less than an hour and a half to go before midnight, we wandered outside, smiling like idiots with our arms around each other.
"That was fun," Percy decided as we nodded a goodnight to the bouncer.
"I'm glad. And remember what I told you about drinking lots of water."
"I will. Maybe it'll work even better for me since I'm a son of Poseidon."
"That would be sick."
"Yeah."
We both stood there for a moment, letting the cool night air wash over us, a serious relief for the end of the summer. Percy had planned to spend the last moments of his birthday at Camp, with his girlfriend Annabeth and his best friend Grover. I knew it was time for me to let him go, to get us each a cab and head our separate directions, but I still didn't quite want the night to end.
Apparently, Percy felt the same way. He turned to me, a mischievous grin on his face and a light in his eyes that definitely meant trouble.
"Do you want to come back to Camp with me?"
I laughed, smiling a little even as I shook my head. "Perce, you know as well as I do that I can't. I wish I could, but there's no way for me to get in."
"Actually... no one knows how he did it, but a really lost pizza delivery guy made it through one time."
"If no one knows how he did it, how am I supposed to replicate it?"
Percy shrugged. "I don't know. But it's possible."
I paused, debating with myself for a moment. Worse-case scenario, I couldn't get in and I had a much longer cab ride than necessary. Not ideal, but not the end of the world either. And best case, I'd finally get to see the famous Camp Half-Blood and hang out with Percy and his friends.
"Alright," I finally said, turning back to Percy with a smile. "Let's give it a shot."
"Cool. Then I'm sorry for this."
Before I could ask what he meant, Percy held out his hand and threw a golden coin I recognized as Olympian money onto the street. At the same time, he shouted something in what I guess was ancient Greek, and the pavement before us started to bubble. A moment later, a smoky gray taxi rose out of the ground, suddenly sitting and waiting just in front of where we stood on the curb.
"Whoa," I breathed, a smile making its way onto my face as the astonishment wore off. "That is so cool."
"Maybe wait until after the ride to decide if it's cool."
Despite that shady warning, I got into the cab when Percy opened the door and climbed in with me. In front of us across the driver's bench were three ancient old ladies. It took about thirty seconds for me to realize they only had one eye between them, at which point only love for Percy kept me sitting in the car.
The ride from the bar to Camp Half-Blood were a few of the worst moment of my life. It was terrifying from start to finish, and although the travel was incredibly fast, there was also a stretch of that time where I thought we'd never get out of the cab alive again.
After Percy convinced the drivers, apparently the Gray Sisters, to take me even though I was a mortal, and after they spat some poetry about Apollo meddling to help Percy as a favor in the near future (which Percy seemed less than thrilled about), the car finally came to a stop. I rushed to get out, making a beeline for some bushes in case the motion sickness was enough to make me throw up. Thankfully, it wasn't, and when I turned around the cab was gone, leaving me and Percy on a darkened stretch of road.
"That was the worst thing ever," I declared. Percy shrugged, a grin tugging at the corner of his mouth.
"Fastest cab service in New York."
I just shook my head, closing my eyes and then immediately regretting it since my world was still spinning. When I opened my eyes again, Percy had moved past me to the edge of the forest.
"I figured we'd try to go in the back way, by the woods here," he explained. "We're pretty sure that's where the pizza guys come from."
"Would those be the monster-infested woods you've told me about?"
"Yup."
I sighed, long and heavy, letting the last of the adrenaline drain away. Then, I managed a smile at Percy.
"Alright. Let's do this."
Percy pulled out his sword as I followed him into the woods, incredibly tense and jumping at every single noise. I couldn't tell exactly where the barrier to Camp Half-Blood was, but I didn't run into any invisible barriers, and by some miracle we didn't run into any monsters. After a while of walking, finally, we came to a beach, and not far from us I could see two figures waiting.
Percy turned back to me with a grin as our feet reached the sand.
"We did it."
"Did we seriously? This is Camp?"
"Yeah. The cabins and everything else are another walk through the woods, but this is the Camp beach. Annabeth and Grover are up there."
"Hell yes," I said, grinning as I moved to walk next to Percy. "Lost pizza delivery guys have nothing on me."
Percy and I high-fived, and as soon as they noticed me, Annabeth and Grover threw their hands up in the air and waved me over.
"You made it!" cried Annabeth, pulling me in for a hug. "How did you make it?"
I shrugged as we pulled apart, then immediately turned to pull Grover in too.
"No idea. However the pizza delivery guys did it, I guess. Whatever it was, I'm glad I'm here."
"Me too," said Percy, slinging an arm around my shoulders. We shared a smile, and then I turned away to reach into my bag. I pulled out the last surprise I'd been saving and faced the group again with a massive grin, two wine bottles in-hand.
"Don't tell your camp director," I said, smirking a little to myself. Percy, Annabeth, and Grover made a perfect scale of worried (Grover) to cackling, laughing happy (Percy) with Annabeth in the middle. I passed one bottle to Percy, then opened the first bottle and poured us each a glass. "To Percy! Happy twenty-first to the greatest cousin and friend I ever could've asked for. I love you, and I can't wait to drag you on every ridiculous, non-lethal adventure I can think of, from now until forever. And you have the next year to prepare for how many times you're gonna hear Taylor Swift's 22 at your next birthday."
"Hear hear!"
"Cheers!"
"Can't wait!"
The four of us clinked our glasses, and a moment later (like it'd been planned, which it probably had) a literal pod of dolphins burst out of the water, dancing and swirling in the waves. Percy groaned next to me while Annabeth, Grover, and I laughed.
"Poseidon knows how to put on a show for a birthday," I said. Percy sighed and shook his head, then dropped into the sand. The rest of us followed right after him, leaning back in the sand and watching the ocean sparkle and stretch out before us. The four of us stayed out there long into the night, laughing and talking and drinking by the surf.
When we finally decided it was time to head to bed, the trio helped me sneak through the woods again and into the heart of Camp. I wandered around happily, taking in everything while Percy and I made a beeline for his cabin. I'd have to leave earlier than early tomorrow to keep us all out of trouble, but for just one night we could manage to get away with it.
A Half-Blood's life was full of crazy, and even though I wasn't one, I intended to be part of every single thing that I could be part of for Percy, Annabeth, and everyone else he cared about for the rest of his life.

Leo Valdez Study
I've always been annoyed with how people see Leo. He has a lot of really interesting traits, but he also has a lot of issues.
The seventh wheel thing
From day one, Leo is worried that he is a third, or “seventh” wheel. This starts with Piper and Jason’s relationship and continues till the last book. It’s meant to be a relatable worry that he “overcomes” by the end of his story, but I feel it is a manifestation of a much deeper problem. He lets other people’s opinions dictate his actions and his thoughts.  Everyone does this to an extent, but it is so deeply engrained into who Leo is that it’s an undertone to every decision he makes. Every other thought he has is about how he doesn’t have a girlfriend and how he feels so left out. This manifests in more ways than that though. When interacting with people he thinks are “lesser” than him, he is pretty cruel at times. The most obvious example is Frank. Their rivalry is framed as boys fighting over a girl, but it’s deeper than that. Leo thinks he’s better than Frank, or at least equal to him. He constantly makes mean comments about Frank’s worth and skills. This is put into better contrast when you look at how Leo interacts with the other boys. He’d never say half of the things he says to Frank to Percy or Jason, even if they were the ones dating Hazel.
2. Using the fact that he looks like hazels old lover to get closer to her.
Leo feels Hazel is in his league. Maybe because she is younger, or maybe because she has talked to him a few times. Either way, he has no issues preying on the fact that he looks like her past crush to become closer to Hazel. He instantly sees their relationship in a romantic light and doesn’t think twice about how things must feel for her. “Hazel was also Franks girlfriend, so Leo knew he should keep his distance. Still, her hair smelled good, and riding with her made his heart race almost against his will.”
“We could’ve made a sandcastle” “A lime castle” Their eyes locked for a second to long. Hazel looked away “You are so much like---” “Sammy” Leo guessed.”
It rubbed me the wrong way when he mentioned keeping his distance from Hazel because she was Frank’s girlfriend. Repeatedly I get the vibe that he doesn’t see women as people just because of how his lack of girlfriend clouds his world view. I really don’t think this was Riordan’s intention when he wrote Leo, but in real life, this would be a big red flag for me.
3. Who needs brothers anyway
Regarding Nico, Leo says “He hoped Hazel had forgiven him for not trusting her brother (hey, it had seemed like a reasonable suspicion to Leo)." It’s valid to be mistrusting of someone you don’t know; the problem is that even when Hazel said multiple times they could trust Nico, Leo still didn’t believe her. From his point of view in MoA, he fawns over Hazel and likes how she pays attention to him. But when it really comes down to it, he brushes aside her worries because he thinks rescuing Nico is too dangerous. Regardless of whether rescuing Nico was a good idea or not, it says a lot about how he truly feels about his friends and the girl he liked.
When the seven had the meeting concerning Nico, they were rightfully worried about the dangers of rescuing him. But it didn’t come from a place of mistrusting Nico. Percy, despite his self admittedly rough past with Nico, looked past it and immediately said he would rescue him. One of his reasons were he “couldn’t stand seeing Hazel in pain.” Meanwhile Leo, the boy who has said he likes Hazel over and over again, couldn’t do the same. He brushed her concerns aside so quickly to share an opinion that really wasn’t needed. Everyone knew the mission would be dangerous, they knew it was a trap. But Leo still said to Hazel’s face that it would be better to not rescue Nico. Is it because Nico is a son of Hades? Because it was a trap? We honestly don’t even get a super clear reason why Leo was so against rescuing Nico. But no matter what his reasons were, sparing Hazel’s emotions didn’t even cross his mind. He sees her as a pretty girl rather than a teammate and someone who can make good decisions.
4. Calypso and Leo’s relationship
Leo didn’t like Calypso; he’s just obsessed with not being alone.
Cruel, but there’s a lot of proof why this could be the case. I believe in the theory that their relationship was Calypso’s curse kicking in one last time. In the beginning she was angry at Leo and said many times that she did not want Leo there. Although they were able to become friends by the end, I believe that if Calypso was not cursed, she would not have fallen in love with Leo. She’s thousands of years old and has directly said that she does not want to fall in love again. Leo is 16, and is a product of a completely different cultural era. People have argued that mentally she is young, but at the end of the day, I believe there must be a least some things in common between two people to be in a relationship.
An interesting point to consider is that Riordan might be already hinting that their relationship wont work out. In Trials in Apollo, Calypso expresses that she is uncomfortable in the real world and understandably feels out of place as a mortal teenager. Leo is also worried and he somewhat micromanages her needs in an attempt to make her feel better. I can’t see this leading to anything good. I will do a 180 if it turns out the author has been playing the long game and plans to address Leo’s issues as a part of his character development. But I think that Calypso was supposed to be Leo’s happy ending. His insecurities won’t go away just because of a girlfriend, and I wish this was addressed as a personal issue for Leo to solve instead of making him rely on outside forces (girl) to solve.
“Keep moving—that was his motto. Don’t dwell on things. Don’t stay in one place for too long. It was the only way to stay ahead of the sadness.“
At the end of the day, Leo has a traumatic past. He is a very interesting character, and there is a lot of depth to him that people don’t think about. From what I’ve seen, people tend to turn him into a 2d character and ignore his issues and the wrong things he has done. They, like Leo, just want him to be “bad boy supreme” and not look any deeper. My issue with him is the fact that none of his development resulted in anything meaningful. He ended the series getting what he wanted, but not what he needed.

Fuck dude, I relate to the deadweight reader sm. Pls tag me when pt 8 is out
Tumblr media
Here we are at last! The first part to the two parter finale! Thank you for supporting this series that came from a silly little idea and thank you all for seeing it get this far!
Again the stupid fucking ‘readmore’ isn’t going to be added as I don’t want half of the fic to be erased for no reason. Be it’s the new updates fault. 🤷‍♀️
“Where are we?” Keyleth asked, feeling a tad disheartened by the dead flowerbeds, dry grass the crunched like bones under foot and the decaying trees and polluted swamp that stretched out before them. “Shademurk Bog.” Their horned travel guide informed before pointing at the tree that sat at the heart of the bog. “And your friend is trapped inside there with Saurdon.” He adds.
“How are we meant to get inside? Blow it up?” Vex asked, hands on her hips and her brow cocked upwards. “That’s the idea.” The horned male says as though it’s obvious enough, “it’s an tree after all, a dead one, but a tree none the less.” The group shared looks between each other before arming themselves as they delved across the black goo swamp whisky also making sure to keep a clear mind as to not submit to Saurdon’s temptations. They were here for one reason and one reason that ever truly mattered to them; vestige or no vestige, you’ve became the treasure that they horde.
Now that someone has taken that treasure and they weren’t happy. They were furious. “Don’t worry y/n.” Vax said the closer they got to the tree that supposedly has you trapped. “We’re coming, just hang on tight.”
‘Lost, ostracised, alienated, overshadowed by your peers.’ Suardon listed off as he crept towards your still standing figure, your blacked out eyes stuck themselves to him and every action he did and yet you couldn’t find the power within to reach for your weapon and tear this twat a new arsehole. You were stun locked. Your free will to do anything was taken away, forcing you into obeisance.
‘You desire companionship that won’t treat you like a second thought or someone who is only there to be used and then quickly discarded until your services were called upon again, like a servant. You want to be treated more then just deadweight.’ He continues, stepping into your personal space now as his decrepit hand cusps your jaw as though he were handling porcelain.
‘You’re lonely y/n.” he utters in a hushed whispered as his face draw nearer and nearer to the point you could feel his breath brush against your skin, which made you feel more then repulsed then you were when you couldn’t do shit to stop this weirdo from touching your jaw. ‘I can fix that…for a price.’ Saurdon drawled, stepping just another step closer to you as you internally groaned. ‘If only you give me your heart.’
“Don’t listen to him sweetheart!” Vex’s voice cried from below, catching yours and Saurdon’s attention. “His words are void, empty promises that of which hide his true intentions!” Percy adds on.“We’re sorry! We’re so fixing sorry y/n. For everything!” Keyleth cries when she saw that the black in your eyes hadn’t disappeared after hearing Percy and Vex. “For the way we’ve ignored you, disregarded you, shunned you, distanced ourselves from you, all of that and so much more!”
Vax stepped in next to her when he saw that she was becoming too emotional to carry on her speech and seeing as he was the one to remain by your side since the tomb, he could only hope that his voice could reach you. He couldn’t loose you, not this time. Not here. “We know better now then to act as though we’ve never wronged you, that’s unfair for you and the shit we’ve put you through!” He exclaims, “we promise to do better by you because in all honesty, we’re jealous of you y/n. Vox machina would be nothing without you, we would be nothing without you! Yes we were dickheads for not talking to you about this but please…come home.”
The black in your eyes disappeared and you were quick to draw your weapon and turn on Saurdon, who was furious that his plan was ruined and used his power to send you over the edge and into solid ground, knocking your weapon from your hand as he began attacking your friends. “Fucker needs to takes rejection in a more healthier manner good god.” You groaned as you got back up to your feet, picking up your weapon as Vax came to your aid, tossing your arm over his shoulder. “Forgive us yet?” He asked.
“Not the time nor the place to ask but since your dying to know,” you told him as you set your sights on Saurdon’s back, “the jury is still out.” You concluded as you brought yourself back into the heat of battle with a fire under your arse when you saw that Percy was being overwhelmed by Suardon’s plants. Slicing and dicing through them with ease as you watched them fall pathetically.
“Thanks.” Percy said.
“No problem. Also, tree fucker has the vestige.” You replied with a smile before leaving him with that information to aid Keyleth and Vex who were more then happy to see you. “Y/n!” Keyleth shouted, setting some of Suardon’s offence aflame. “Keyleth.” You greeted, “where’s Vex?” “Fighting Saurdon.” She informed you, pointing in the way she last saw vex. You patted her on the shoulder and were about to leave to help aid Vex when the Druid stopped you. “Be careful.” She warned. “Aren’t I always?” You replied before slipping off.
By the time you caught up with Vex and Saurdon, things were looking bleak. Vex lost her bow and was hanging over the edge with Saurdon towering over her, aiming the vestige at her, reading himself in taking the killing blow. “Hey tree dick!” You shouted, catching his attention as he hissed in anger. “Step the fuck away from my friend.” Utilising the enhanced speed gifted to you by the armour, you sent yourself and Saurdon over the edge and to the ground below; allowing Vex to pull herself up over the edge. “Y/n!” She cried, “catch!” Vex then threw down the golden arrowhead Percy made her and you only looked up at her incredulously.
“The fuck am I supposed to do with this?!” You asked her and she face palmed before gesturing to Saurdon who was slowing getting back up to his feet, “stab him you dumbass! Stab him in the heart!” You quickly dashed to Saurdon, knocking back flat on his arse again, wrestling him into submission as you lifted the golden arrow head overhead and brought it down into his heart; killing him and earning your party another vestige which you the quickly gave to Vex.
You all emerged from the tree only to find a golden portal awaiting you. “This must be our ticket home.” You said and with no argument to be heard from the rest of the party, you all left the fey realm united.

Okie dokie, I wanted to share my opinion on the PJO show so far. Feel free to disagree, this is my personal opinion.
The Disney+ PJO show does not live up to the hype. I'm trying not to be so critical since it is meant to be a kids' show, and I am no longer in that target age demographic, but it's really bugging me. I'm not saying that it's awful, but it isn't as good as people are making it out to be. My reasoning is below (the order does not matter, it is not an order of importance/most annoying to least annoying, it is literally just the order I typed them out in.:
1. Pacing. The first two episodes had really weird pacing and episodes 3 and 4 were only a little better. Major things are rushed and minor things are stretched out. I understand that adapting a book to screen means some things will be left out or rushed but this was to the extent that it was difficult to stay engaged because either too much or too little was happening.
2. Show not tell. Everything is told, nothing is shown. Instead of the trio figuring things out, they are just told everything. Too much of the show is an exposition dump. I understand that with something based on Greek mythology, there is some explaining that needs to happen, but this is excessive. Luke just said, "Annabeth's my sister," and they have like 1 interaction. Show the bond don't just say it.
3. Character development. I feel like we have seen very little character development from the trio. The most recent episode has it best, but the relationships between the trip are so important, and I feel like they aren't being delved into enough. This is true with all characters, but since the trio is going to be the main focus of the season, I feel like their development should be better. I'm fairly hopeful that this will get better in the coming episodes, but it is a gripe I currently have.
4. Acting. This one probably relates back yo character development and pacing a lot, and it isn't really a priority for me because I know the show focuses on child actors, and I can forgive them for not being the best because they are children. For the most part, the acting is good. That being said, there have been multiple occasions where the acting has been so bad or campy that I was completely taken aback. Percy has many moments where the lines seem really clunky or he just seems out of character. Waking up in the infirmany and his first little bit at camp was poorly acted in my opinion. Percy is supposed to think his mother is dead, and any grief or saddness is barely there. I feel like this may be because of how rushed Percy's introduction to camp was (back to pacing issues). Annabeth's introduction was incredibly bitchy and watching it just shocked me. I can understand her being reserved and a bit hostile, but the tone was just really weird, and to me, it felt out of character. Idk if that was an acting choice by Leah or a directing choice, but it was strange to me. There are some other parts where the acting isn't the greatest also. I know I may be too critical in this aspect, but these characters mean a lot to me, and seeing parts of them poorly acted stand out a lot and ruin my immersion. It's been getting better as the show goes on, and I'm confident it will continue to improve, but it has bothered me, and I wanted to vent a bit.
5. Stakes. They have made it seem like the entire quest is about Percy getting his mom back. I understand focusing on that angle because Percy is motivated to go on the quest because of the chance to get his mother back, but the quest is also about stopping a war between the gods. They don't mention the master bolt enough and haven't mentioned the fact that Zeus and Posideon are on the brink of war nearly enough. The dreams with Kronos taunting Percy help with this issue, but not enough, in my opinion. I know the stakes, but while watching the show, I even start to believe the quest is just about getting his mom back. I'm watching with someone who has never read the books, and they thought the quest was just about his mom. A little more emphasis on the whole saving the world part of the quest would be nice.
Other than these reasons the show is good, I like watching it and will continue to watch it. I just wonder how much of my enjoyment is coming from nostalgia and love for the books. I also think that as a community, PJO fans have not been very open to hearing criticism about the show. This is understandable because there is a not insignificant amount of criticism that is stupid like "its not the same as the books" or the racist bullshit relating to Annabeth's casting. However, there are definitely things that aren't great about the show and could be done better, and we should be able to voice these criticisms. We should be able to discuss differing opinions on the show without it becoming an argument.

I was rereading The Blood of Olympus today, and I realized how much I just do not like Piper.
Whenever Piper is in a chapter, to me it feels like she’s always being pushy, selfish, or overprotective. Also, it may just be me with this opinion.
When Piper is in the temple of fear with Annabeth, Piper is the one who takes control of the situation. In my opinion the way Rick explained it didn’t make sense. Annabeth is the one who is always calm and collected. Even with trauma. Piper is the one who acts on impulse and what she wants, (as displayed when she jumps down the chute even though Annabeth warns her not to). Although this action may have been necessary to the mission, it what reckless.
Also, despite Piper knowing something is up with Leo, continues to treat him like a third wheel and as someone who could be sacrificed. It just doesn’t make her a likable character.
As my last little tid-bit on this topic, Piper committed crimes before becoming part of the seven. I don’t think this should be ignored as a part of her character. It shows how much she craves attention and isn’t above breaking the law to get it. There is certain things that are *somewhat* understandable for not having attention from your parents, but never should breaking the law be considered okay to do because of that.
Who knows, maybe I’m reading her character wrong but that’s the way I see her. Please dissect this.
I just want to say that, as someone who has been trying to keep it down to only Nico, to receive an ask specifically about another character I've paid no attention to surely is an experience lol.
Anyway. Let's see. From your words, Piper doesn't seem to be a likable character, which is to be expected. As far as I'm concerned though, Piper, as a character, just does not interest me enough for me to form an opinion. I'm more of a "eh whatever" or "oh. cool" when it comes to her. It also does not help that I haven't read The Lost Hero, and my brain just straight up auto-deletes everything that's not Nico-related, so you can say my grasp of Piper McLean is limited at best and non-existant at worst.
If there's anything I remember about her, then that'd be the times I had to skip some pages of her and Jason (like I did to Percabeth, bc I disliked romantic scenes with everything in me and that's nothing new).
With that being said, as someone technically blank, I feel that your dislike to Piper is already set in stone, so there's no changing to that, and it's not like you need to change anyway. I wouldn't like such a character in your description either. 😂😂😂
About that scene of Annabeth and Piper, (keep in mind that I am not aware of that scene but directly referencing it through your retelling) I think what Rick was trying is to make Piper a direct contradiction to Annabeth in terms of action repertoire - a type of recklessness to the latter's meticulousness.
(Wow Percabeth and Jiper are actually a square full of contradictions)
However. The line between 'bold, risk-taking' and straigh-up stupidity is but a fine line. I will not judge Piper without properly re-reading the whole thing (which I won't), but I can see where you get it from.
I just want to say a few words about the last part. The thing about Piper's criminal record.
I understand that, from a reader's point of view, it'd be unlikable for a character to commit a crime, specifically, to "gain attraction". Though, while the action itself is inexcusable, it should also be acknowledged that Piper - like 90% of the PJO cast - was a teenager, who grew up with barely any parental guidance (or at least that's what I remember). A figure as such is bound to make mistakes, as well as cause debates over their likeliness. I do agree that what Piper did was wrong (I mean. that's like. the law), however there's a reason and background to said wrongdoing.
It's not okay, nor is it right to do so, but it's understandable. That's all.
That is to say: fuck it. I have been resenting Percy since the day I read PJO, you can dislike Piper all you want. We're just humans, not saints. Just don't go around shitting on people with different likes then you're good to go! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️😂
While we are at it, I'm quite curious as to how this was "ignored as a part of her character". I'm guessing that Rick failed to incorporate Piper's background into her own character as she's developed? Then that's not Piper's fault. That's just Rick and his YA writing lmao.

oooh the last two anon replies got me fired up so here's my manifesto i guess.
the universal hating on lin manuel miranda comes down to a few factors that most of the time have nothing to do with his actual mistakes:
their cringe history is reflected in him and they can't deal with it. let it be known that it is not lin who created miku binder jefferson. that was entirely a monster of our making. and somehow, his enthusiasm and willingness to interact with fan content (i remember everyone loving him for it) is worthy of punishment in relation.
he's an easy scapegoat to dump criticism on because people already feel so comfortable speaking on him. like you said, it's crazy that people will paint out lin manuel miranda, the guy who changed broadway and did so much for POC roles, to be the big baddie. he's made mistakes, and there's a lot we can discuss about hamilton's legacy, etc., but damn. where's this energy for everyone else? is it a case of "he actually tried, therefore we have material to latch onto and tear down?"
a lot of what he does is successful and in the public eye! it's crazy but i see people going "why is lin manuel miranda in everything" about projects from the 2000s, like yeahh he didn't just make hamilton and then disappear for your own convenience. if anything it's a statement about how a lot of his work, like it or not, is remembered over time. the reaction to him being in percy jackson was crazy to me because i KNOW for a fact that you did not see his dark materials or tick tick boom; at most you know him from moana and hamilton. and then complaining that he "threatened disney to be in everything they do" smh.
he's not your typical white boy of the month. this might be a loaded statement but sue me, i think it's true. POC celebrities have a limited amount of time in the sun compared to white celebrities. a white actor having multiple roles in a year is okay, and it means they're a hard worker. but when it's a POC actor, their presence is conspicuous. their presence becomes bothersome. public goodwill dries up so much faster. even pedro pascal, i feel, has been talked about with eye-rolls recently. i read a very interesting paper about this.
it's fun! the internet's chosen him as their punching bag, and there are no consequences to online hating if everyone else agrees. i bet a lot of people think they're just joking.
and all of this makes it such that if they do find out about some of his actual mistakes, it's a relief. i legitimately saw a tiktok comment section filled with bashing, and someone said "this is so hilarious but kinda mean, the guy didn't do anything" and someone said with "actually he did this this and this" and they replied "oh thank god, i don't feel bad now!" so it's not "oh let's see if this person improved" it's "phew! i have a legitimate reason to continue what i've been doing all along!"
it's crazy because i'm not even a lmm fan necessarily. i've just been in the musical community for years and noticed all of this happening surrounding his very popular work. you all will rue the day! 10 yrs later or so people are going to start making those "he deserved better" posts but i will not forgive or forget.
i don't know if you want me to respond to every single thing you wrote here, but i appreciate the message, especially when it comes from someone who's not really a fan - it only shows me that it's possible not to be in the fandom & still be respectful.
don't even get me started on miku binder jefferson, it's probably the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen in my life. also, one thing i need to point out is that NOT EVERYONE in this fandom is like that, & i think i'm a perfect example of a person who just enjoys lin's art & likes talking about it & analizing things, but not enjoying all those weird cringe things that were created by the fandom (like the one you mentioned), so like... maybe a certain part of the fandom was the problem, not the creator of the thing? i have nothing against fanfiction in general, nothing against fanarts but like... some people are ruining the thing cause it's just too much. like the famous lmm cannibal mermaid fanfiction, come on guys, be serious, what the actual fuck???
i also agree with the percy jackson thing, i remember seeing all the hate even before the episode with him dropped & honestly i couldn't stand it, the pjo fandom ruined all the fun for me & i literally had to block pjo tag lol. then the episode was out & everyone was suddenly like OH, HE WAS ACTUALLY GOOD, well guess what bitch, i've been saying this all the time, he is actually a good actor & you are just a miserable hater. this fandom is toxic as fuck. also, you think he's everywhere? i do know a lot of other celebrities who actually ARE everywhere these days & somehow no one is sick of them??? so maybe people really are just racists. also, this is literally his job lol what do you expect him to do, disappear forever?
i will not forgive or forget either. like i said before, i'm aware that he made some mistakes, it's not like he didn't apologize for some of them, also he's not perfect, but no one is. all i'm trying to say is that there are more problematic people but somehow everyone feels the need to hate on him. you picked the wrong guy, just let him be.

so i finally watched the pjo finale after a long day of school (spoilers below the cut)
LUKE'S VOICEOVER OH MY FUCKING GODS 10/10 NO NOTES
finally they showed luke training percy, it would have been more meaningful at the start spending more time at camp though and showing more interactions with annabeth to establish that bond
it was really interesting seeing luke talk to percy about the gods. good foreshadowing and LOVED luke's analogy to spiders, fucking slayed.
THE WAVE THING THAT HAPPENED DURING THE ARES FIGHT!!! 10/10 NO NOTES (will be using this phrase a lot sorry not sorry)
returned the helm. hmm good yeah
annabeth giving percy the necklace!!!! ahhhh!!!
grover's 'this could've been an email' is so relatable fr
olympus looks kinda cool ngl, like a slightly modernised ancient city. i loved the brewing storms over the empire state building but it would've been better if that weather was there throughout the whole quest since that was mean to show how pissed zeus was.
i would much prefer olympus in its glam and glory from the books and the bright white tones that pretty much set olympus apart and made it so intimidating.
percy bowing his head and returning the bolt. hmmm yes shows the gravity of his meeting.
i loved zeus' whole vibe during this scene, no longer pissed about the lack of plane ride since it was perfectly made up for with zeus' insistence to continue the war. hmm the things really do come together here.
percy telling him about kronos and zeus being like 'i don't need a lecture about my father' was honestly amusing to see but delivered like percy was about to be smited just for bringing him up, yesss, really shows how zeus really doesn't want to deal with it.
is it just me or does zeus' indifference towards kronos rising and him being like 'yeah we do that sort of thing all the time' feel weird to me? maybe i'm reading into it too much because one thing that i noticed in the books was that he really doesn't like talking about kronos and acts like he still fears him (see: hades being frightened about it when percy brings it up). idk i'm prolly just nitpicking
'i will not be weakened by my brothers' 'you already are. your family's a mess' PERCY FUCKING SLAYED THE HOUSE DOWN 10/10 NO NOTES.
percy: *tells zeus that his family doesn't love him and that he needs therapy and that his daddy will come put him into place* zeus: yeah this little shit needs to die. (loved that, btw)
POSEIDON STOPPING ZEUS FROM KILLING PERCY AND SURRENDERING FOR HIS SAKE????? 10/10 NO NOTES (also the bolt looked really fucking cool in this scene)
'[percy] is a forbidden son, he shouldn't exist' 'neither should your thalia' YOU TELL HIM POSEIDON
guys we finally got the ancient greek convo that zeus and poseidon had in the books!!!! this is everything i've been wanting for ages!!!!! (also i'm no expert but it sounded really good to me, ofc i have no reasonable information to base my judgement on so don't come at me)
zeus wanting to embarrass poseidon in front of the council?? hhhh the dysfunctional relationships are dysfunctioning!!!! and looking at poseidon's face, you can see how upset he is at having his pride crushed like that but it's all worth it!!!
also zeus 'family business' is one way of describing your father returning from his retirement home to kill you all.
very flashy exit from zeus. disappointed that the 'your uncle has always had a flair for dramatic exits, he would have done very well as the god of theatre' line didn't make it. again i'm just nitpicking but i loved poseidon's sheer sass in that comment.
you can tell from my extremely detailed analysis that the olympus scene was my favourite out of the entire show. what can i say, 10/10 no notes.
lance reddick as zeus, you will always be famous. may you rest in peace
that being said, i hope whoever is recast as zeus should the show continue matches lance's portrayal because it's fucking perfect to me.
the sheer intimidation and prideful rage we saw from zeus??? the divine fury?? that needed to be established for all the gods, especially ares and hades.
the interaction between poseidon and percy was so good!!! toby stephens really gets poseidon so well
poseidon calling ares a moron is so fucking funny btw. nothing like good old uncle-nephew beef
also how the fuck did sally 'high school dropout' jackson teach percy classics-grad level ancient greek??? why would he have not learnt it at camp like poseidon assumed??
'do you dream about mom?' OH MY GODS THE POSALLY IS POSALLYING
really weird for a sea pearl to return percy in the middle of a fucking field near camp. like not even a lake???
percy staring at thalia's tree was sooooooooo (screams)
loved the welcome back that percy received but would have been more impactful if percy had spent more time at camp and we saw how he was kinda ostracised as a forbidden kid
luke requesting a meeting in the woods???? i see...
the betrayal scene was really good but i'm a little disappointed about not getting the scorpion because it felt so much more serious i feel like.
loved luke trying to recruit percy though
was backbiter always able to open portals??? i don't remember it's been like a month since i reread the pjo series.
loved how luke switched from recruiting to fighting percy right after he said 'i met your dad' hhhhhhhh so good
annabeth throwing the dagger?? slay
wow no one in that godsforsaken writers' room wants annabeth to have a single emotion. this is supposed to be the girl who says 'family, luke, you promised' and justifies luke any chance she gets. she should not be this stoic, i think.
loved how luke ran away instead of fighting annabeth. no one messes with my girl.
chiron's discussion with percy hmmmmm, feels a little early to have percy realise luke was right. like yeah in the books he heavily disagrees with the gods but it's not until heroes of olympus where he's like 'you know what, luke had a point'
dionysus being surprised at percy's name was so funny btw. and so was him yelling at the campers to get the fuck out.
PERCY ASKING ANNABETH ABOUT THALIA'S FEELINGS AND ANNABETH GOING 'percy, it's a fucking tree' FHJSFHKJSD
annabeth being scared of disney world is so funny. poor girl is still recovering from waterland
also can i just say she looks so pretty in this scene, i love the hair
percy's 'just be a kid' hhhhhhhh
grover's searcher's licence being a flower??? lmao
percy being so done with kronos in his dreams is so real of him
'did you have another nightmare' 'yeah, grandpa' 'ew don't call him that' so funny by the way
it was an interesting detail seeing that percy was telling sally about his dreams, i like it tbh
'he told me don't forget to tell your mom you love her' 'kronos, lord of the titans, said that?' 'he could have' percy jackson, you will always be famous
percy's final narration is really good, it's more optimistic than in the books, where he was like 'if you think you're one of us, that's not good' but here he was like 'yeah you're probably right, and we might need you'. it's not bad, per se, but the tone it sets is very different.
the change with sally and gabe. hmmm. well what else were they going to do? not fucking surprised.
FINAL THOUGHTS
the finale was overall so good as an episode, where the fuck was this energy for the rest of the show??? it's like they put all the action and tension into just this and ran out of it for the rest of the show. i hope the show gets renewed so i can see my babies walker, leah, and aryan again but i'm scared to see what else they (rick riordan and co) would fuck up.

“What kind of pessimism is that?”
The girl squeezes through a crowd of drunken teenagers and heads for the stairs that lead to the second floor, where Jiwon's room is located. It is there that he, along with his friends, has fun.
After knocking, for some reason, three times, Percy opens the door and goes inside. In the room, in addition to Jiwon, there are 3 other guys with whom Song is more or less familiar.
Her eye meets the coffee table, where there is a small bag of pills. It is not difficult to guess that these are drugs. Too often Percy had seen ecstasy at Jiwon's parties. The guy himself wouldn’t mind getting wasted, waiting for the proper effect.
“Oh, our spark plug has come," one of the guys, whose name seems to be Lan, said incoherently.
“Hi, boys,” Percy said, waving.
She decided not to give a damn about the rules he had set for her. The guy shamelessly turned the girl's soul inside out, made her feel all that pain again, so now Percy will try to cause him as much pain as she can.
Of course, she wasn't going to squeeze or sleep with any of the guys present. For the watcher, the usual "hi, boys" was an excuse to get angry and howl like a wolf.
"Spark plug won't hookah," Jiwon was relatively sober, so he got up almost without staggering. Going to the bedside table, the guy rummaged through it and took out the cherished box.
“Here, this is for you...” trying to find words, Yoon began to continuously snap his fingers.  “For temporary use,“ and handed the box to his friend, after which he sat down again on the floor in front of the coffee table.
The girl was amused by Jiwon's behavior. The guy can't hold his liquor, so after the first sips he feels too good. However, Yoon is doing great now.
Percy watched the group of guys for a while, laughed at their drunken swearing. They did not share who would be the next to inhale.
But she also monitored the guys. Dabbling with drugs never leads to anything good. And if someone who has never used ecstasy before pulls the hands to it - the game's up.
Shifting her gaze to the box, the girl sat down on Jiwon's bed, then opened it. The guy was selling electronic cigarettes and liquids for them, and from there the money for his tricks. In the box were still untouched hqd with different flavors, charged pod, and ordinary cigarettes as well.
Although from the outside, both Jiwon and Percy look like ordinary and obedient children, both of them have been carefully hiding such hobbies from their parents for years.
Habitually, Percy, taking a pack of cigarettes and a lighter that was lying at the very bottom of the box, goes to the window, opening it. Yoon lives alone now, so she can safely smoke right in the house and not be afraid that one of the adults will smell the smoke. However, Song, even knowing it, will still do it at the window. And let him see her; and let him text a million messages that he forbade her to take up cigarettes again, she still won't see them; and let him already be disappointed in her.
“Wow, just like that,” Lan said, attracting the attention of Percy, who was already exhaling smoke, smiling with satisfaction. “Not from a sweet beginning, but from the very shit!” the guy was obviously trying to show that he admired the girl.
“Listen, really,” Jiwon seemed to sober up. “Why did you start with cigarettes? Everyone, of course, is aware that you can’t be kicked by liquid even with 70 mg, but…”
"You should know how many times I haven't touched them. From hqd, even on an empty stomach, it will hit the head, even after so many days. Do you know how cigarettes smash your brain?”  Percy asked, smiling contentedly again. A fog appeared in her head, a pleasant feeling of mild euphoria gradually erupted, the brain demanded more nicotine.
“Why don’t you join us??” one of the guys who took the packet and shook it asked with a sly smile. The girl didn't remember his name, or maybe she didn't know it at all.
“No, another time," Percy replied, taking a puff, and her hands shook slightly.
«When pigs fly," the girl thought, snorting and closing her eyes.
Although she was addicted to nicotine, she would never touch drugs in her life. Percy knows it's not going to end well. If it can break without nicotine, then what will happen when the body begins to demand drugs in greater quantities? A person, using, becomes inadequate. When withdrawal begins, the addict, in order to get a dose, takes out everything from house, gets money for drugs in any way, just to get that feeling of unrestrained euphoria again.
“Jiwon,” a girl came into the room, who showed with her whole appearance that she was annoyed.  “there’s  a delivery guy there, he doesn't give me the pizza.”
"I'll be right down," Yun replied with a wave of his hand. “Ember*, will you stay here?” Getting up from the floor, Jiwon asked, turning to Percy, to which she nodded. “Guys, out,” loudly clapping his hands to attract attention, the guy added.
Two friends, muttering something, followed Yoon's example and got up from the floor, following the owner of the house. The door slammed loudly behind them, Percy exhaled with relief, plunging into her thoughts.
Song had his messages spinning in her head. She wanted to spit on everything and ask him to come so that he would support and calm down. He said that she was no longer alone in this world; that he would be there for her in hard time; he would calm her down by holding her to him and would no longer give reason to cry. He wouldn’t leave her alone with her own demons in the from now on.
But the girl was pulled out of her thoughts by someone's voice very close.
"I'm sorry, I didn't hear you," Percy said, finally focusing her gaze on the guy who was standing next to her and looking at her intently. “What did you say?”
“I said, have you been friends with Jiwon for a long time?”
“A year and a half or so,” moving away from the guy, Son replied. “Did you want something?” pulling a smile, she asked, throwing a cigarette out the window.
“To get to know you," he said, moving closer to Percy. “I've never seen you before, so it became interesting.” narrowing his eyes, the guy continued. “And why did he hide such a friend?”
"More likely he didn't hide me, but I always stayed in his room," the girl replied, moving away from the windowsill. She wanted to get as far away from this guy as possible. An inner voice screamed: dangerous! The guy's pupils were dilated to the limit, and that could only mean one thing.
“I'm going to get a drink,” approaching the door, Son voiced her intentions. And when she almost grabbed the door handle, her wrist was intercepted and squeezed tightly. “Let go," Percy said firmly, trying to pull her hand away.
But the guy clearly wasn't going to listen to the girl. He just looked at her in silence, not paying attention to the fact that she was hitting him and trying to escape. He had a clear desire that he intended to realize.
“Let go, I’m asking nicely!”  Percy shouted, punching the guy again with her free hand.
“Or what?”
The girl feels stranger fingers on her neck, and fear covers her head. Percy clings to him with her hands, trying to tear him away from her throat. But the guy, whose name she doesn't even know, just squeezes his fingers harder, blocking access to oxygen. Percy croaks something incoherent, which causes the guy genuine delight. He feels superior. The girl in front of him is too weak to resist, and there is no point in calling for help, because the music will drown out the screams.
“Let's do it nicely,” the guy said right next to Son's ear, after which he bit the lobe.
"Animal," the girl croaks, losing the oxygen that is so necessary now.
The guy, having heard such an insult in his address, instantly flies off the handle. Squeezing the girl's fragile neck harder, he puts her head against the wall, forcing her to whine in pain.
“Shut up. You, like other women, are just a whore that should satisfy the needs of a man.”
Percy prays to all the gods that now someone will help her, get there and snatch from the clutches of this crazy drug addict. If before she thought he was abnormal, now she is sure that she was mistaken. He never touched her, only protected her, even if not in a legal way.
When the guy's other hand slides down the girl's stomach, she squeaks loudly, almost tearing off her voice, for which she is again put with the back of her head against the wall behind. Percy tries to pull away, but to no success.
"I'm sorry I didn't listen to you," Song croaks, closing his eyes.
“Just had to say so,” the guy said with a chuckle, not even realizing that these words were not addressed to him.
The guy reaches for the fly on the girl's jeans, and she bursts into tears, no longer hoping that she will be saved. He slowly, enjoying the Song’s sobs, pulls off her jeans. The girl tries to kick the guy in private parts, but he deftly dodges, leaning on Percy with his whole body.
He is stopped only by the silence that has reigned. The music is no longer playing, and the voices are not heard at all. The guy stops for a moment, covering Song’s mouth with his palm.
He hears footsteps approaching the door, so he abruptly releases Percy, cursing with displeasure.
Lan enters the room, who does not immediately notice Song lying on the floor, which greedily fills her lungs with air, coughing.
"Suga's entourage is here," the blond man said nervously, nodding his head as if urging his friend to follow him. “What have you been doing here?”  Lan finally noticed the girl and asked, his eyes wide with surprise.
“Never mind, we were at odds over something,” the guy answered, taking his friend away from the room.
The girl remained lying on the floor, bursting into tears and mentally thanking those people who, by their arrival, distracted the animal from her.
***
"Open it, it's going to get worse," the girl who had called Jiwon before whispered nervously biting her lips.
Yoon hesitates for a couple of seconds at the door, not daring to open it. But this has to be done, because the next moment the sound of the doorbell is heard throughout the room.
“Having fun, guys?”  grinning, asked the dark-haired guy who went into the house the very first.
"And we weren't even notified about the party," the other one who followed the first said with a chuckle.
“You rarely accept invitations," Jiwon looks around at the guys, his voice trembling.
“That's a bad luck," the first one began, affectedly offended. “it was today that we were going to receive him.”
Two more come in after the two guys, after which four guys stand in a line, looking at everyone present.
"Make yourself at home," Yoon said as politely as possible, inviting the guests to go to the tables on which various snacks, salads and drinks are laid out.
“Cheap swill,” the guy who seemed to be the youngest of the four said with a disgusted grimace.
“Don't be so rude, Kookie," the first one said with a grin. “How can a bunch of teenagers afford good alcohol? Why are you quiet, kids?  Looking from his friend to Jiwon, he asked. “Continue to have fun, turn the music on.”
Jiwon obeys and the next moment turns on the speakers again. Teenagers continue to have fun, trying not to interfere Suga's dogs rest.
"Hope, make sure that Chim and Kook don't get their hands dirty ahead of time.
Hope nodded, leaving for his friends, and the dark-haired man headed for the second floor, pushing the teenagers along the way.
The guy opened every door that was on the second floor. He looked in, but I couldn't find the one I needed.
He didn't get tired of wandering around the house and looking, on the contrary, the guy enthusiastically continued his search.
When he finally reached the last one, he no longer doubted that she was hiding behind it. Slowly opening the door, the guy stepped inside, closing it behind him. On the floor, with her knees pressed to her chest, lay Percy, who did not stop crying. The dark-haired man squatted down in front of her and looked at her for a long time, tilting his head sideways.
“Calm down, little lady,” stroking her on the head, the guy said. “From now on, don't turn off the phone, okay?”  he tried to be as gentle as possible, so as not to frighten even more.
The girl raised her tear-stained eyes to the stranger and asked the first thing that came to mind.
"Is that you?" Are you the psycho who's... following me?” moving away from the guy a little, Percy asked. The stranger laughed at this, covering his face with his hand.
“Really funny,” he voiced his thoughts, turning his gaze back to Percy. “Be careful with your expressions, girl. You're his priority, but you shouldn't go too far and say things like that.” although the guy was trying to be polite, now it turned out to be shitty.
“What's your name?” The dream realized that before her is not the one she thought about.
“V," the guy replied, getting up from his squats. “Get up, you're going home.”
"He's going to kill me," Percy whispers, propping himself up on his elbows.
“What kind of pessimism is that?” V asked with a grin. “Like I said, you are his priority.”
Percy nods, trailing behind V.
to be continued...

is the showrunner's connection to Percy at all related to Aphrodite? she gives me Aphrodite energy.
"Twoleg? What is your name?"
It was late, and Firestar quietly padded out from underneath Artemis's bed, where he had built a nest. Graystripe lay there, still unconscious.
"What?" Asked the twoleg, sitting on the edge of a bed, head in his hands. He looked older than Artemis and Prosper, and had black hair and green eyes. His pants were blue, and he was wearing a shirt that was the same color brown as Firestar's pelt. It had text on it that Firestar couldn't read, because he was a cat.
"My name is Firestar. What is yours?"
"Percy."
"I saw you look at Showrunner with a particular hatred. She even bared her teeth at you. Do you have some history?"
Percy scowled, and the glass of water on his bedside table shook. "She has my girlfriend."
"Girlfriend?" Was that like a mate?
"Annabeth."
That didn't answer Firestar's question, but okay.
"Th- that mouthless twoleg, he looked upset, too, when she took that kit."
"Stanley? Yeah, that was his friend. We- we're gonna try to get them back, b-"
"Shh!"
Firestar jumped onto the bed, getting nearer Percy's ear, "Don't be so loud! The one-eyed one will hear you!"
"Wh- Xigbar?" Percy whispered, looking bewildered.
"I don- Sure! Him!" He whispered. He and Percy both looked up, where Xigbar was relaxing some kind of wooden beam near the top of the room, about 10 fox-lengths away.
They looked at each other, green eyes meeting. Percy said, "Why are you worried about him? The showrunner hates him."
"I wouldn't be so sure. I saw them sharing tongues not long after her clanmates finished feeding the monster."
"I- you saw them doing what?"
"I know!" Firestar said, glad that Percy was just as shocked about the clear show of friendship.
Percy paused, and then looked at Firestar, "Monster? What kind? Why didn't it attack?"
Firestar tilted his head, "The big one that was outside. It vomited out the-" he tried to remember the word- "lunch...balls?"
Percy blinked. "Do you mean the truck?"
"Maybe, do twolegs climb inside trucks and order them around?"
"Yeah."
"Then yes."
"Okay." Percy said, loosening his grip on the small, blue tube he was holding. That had writing on it, too, but Firestar still couldn't read.
A pause.
"I got an aura from the Showrunner," Percy said, "When she gave me the necklaces from Carter-"
"She- she gave you those?!" Was Percy working for her, too?
"Yeah. To gi-" Percy clutched the tube again, "To give to you guys. She also." he blinked some kind of water out of his eyes, and pulled something out of his pocket. It looked like a long curl of twoleg fur, the pale yellow color of the long grass the twolegs grew in rows outside of Ravenpaw and Barley's place.
Firestar sniffed it. Definitely twoleg. "Is this from your Annabeth?"
Percy nodded, and the glass of water again shook on the table. Was Percy doing that?
But this Annabeth. Clearly she was in danger if Showrunner was able to cut some of her fur.
"What is an aura?" He asked Percy.
"It- it's a kind of... a feeling. The Showrunner, I think she's a daughter of Aphrodite."
"And that's important?"
Percy nodded, still staring at Annabeth's fur.
"You saw them... sharing tongues?"
"Yes," Firestar said, recalling Xigbar kneeling in front of Showrunner and grooming her hand.
"She could be using Charmspeak on him." Percy said thoughtfully.
"Who is Charmspeak?"
Percy gave him an odd look, "I mean she could be using magic to convince him to do things. It's something Aphrodite kids can do. My friend Piper used it to defeat Gaia."
Those were definitely words.
A few moments passed in silence.
"Wait," Said Firestar, "Why would Showrunner want you to help us cheat?"
"I don't know," Percy said.
Firestar's ear perked up as a rustle came from the other side of the room. Percy didn't look like he'd heard it.
"But it's late," Continued Percy, "and apparently we're heading back to the arena tomorrow. We should get some rest."
Firestar moved to get off the bed, and then paused, "Percy, do you have more of the necklaces?"
He nodded, and opened his drawer to reveal... a shiny container of twoleg food.
He asked, "Why, did someone lose theirs?"
"N-no, but I want to give one to my friend Graystripe. And I think you should have one, too."
Percy seemed to consider it. He split open a few of the two-leg foods and sure enough, they had necklaces baked inside. he held one out for Firestar to take (it tasted weird in his mouth), then put one on himself, keeping a few in his hand. He shut the drawer.
"'Night, Firestar."
Firestar nodded to him, and then jumped off the bed, padding back to Graystripe.

Logan Lerman Is Learning to Love Hollywood
This is Logan Lerman’s first feature interview in almost two years. For an actor of his prominence and caliber, that’s a rarity. But despite almost two decades of playing leading roles in box office hits like the Percy Jackson & the Olympians film franchise and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Lerman finds the act of promotion, specifically talking about himself, extremely off-putting. It’s one of the main reasons he can’t stand Hollywood. And it’s also why our conversation feels so refreshingly earnest. “Oftentimes, you look at the trades and see announcements for projects, and it’s all in vain,” Lerman tells me during a phone call from his West Hollywood home. “It’s just people trying to get attention for themselves and the projects aren’t real. And I don’t want to be that guy. I feel like I’m much quieter about the things I’m working on. That’s the way I like it.” That might explain why the public hasn’t seen Lerman in a major motion picture for almost 10 years. In this time, he’s maintained consistent work as a producer, but he’s wary to discuss anything coming down the line in detail. (“You never know if anything’s going to actually get made, never know if things are going to pan out,” he says, “And a million things can go wrong.”) Thankfully for Lerman, his long game of committing to the craft continues to pay off. Coming off of a movie premiere for his role inBullet Train, the second season of the Jordan Peele -produced series Hunters, and a calendar stacked with possible projects, life is relatively good for the tenured Hollywood actor. When it’s all said and done, he feels “great,” back at home in WeHo. The reason he finds himself back in his hometown of Los Angeles after a seven-year stint in New York City is a relatable one: he moved during the Covid-19 pandemic. Finding himself “trapped” during a visit metamorphosed into a second act in L.A., one that consisted of hiking, going to the beach with friends, and having the solace to sit down and develop new projects. But the list of reasons he’s happy to be back on the West Coast is accompanied by an even longer list of reasons he can’t stand his hometown, especially the culture the film industry has cultivated within it. “Everyone’s wrapped up in everyone else’s wants and puts this pressure on everyone to continue being in some conversation,” he says. “You have this desperate desire to be relevant.” Aware of the cynicism, he’s been working on shifting his perspective about the city, and finding new ways to appreciate it. “I’m lucky, though, that now, I have a really happy home and good lifestyle,” he adds.
Two years of few box office opportunities and very little work grounded Lerman back into a place of understanding why not everyone cannot take “risks” and “sacrifices.” Unless, of course, Brad Pitt’s on the line. “Brad Pitt is the only person who could justify a studio making a movie during a pandemic,” Lerman says. Along with corralling Joey King, Bad Bunny, Aaron Taylor Johnson, and Brian Tyree Henry, we can thank Pitt for Lerman’s role in the new movie Bullet Train —even if it is a small one. “I know Brad and I’ve been friends with him for years and love him,” Lerman says. So when the Hollywood mogul called him up in the middle of the pandemic, he couldn’t resist joining the project. “It was nice to have an excuse to go to work when nobody was really working. I was really lucky to be doing that,” he says. An action comedy in which five assassins battle each other on a Japanese bullet train, Lerman plays the son of White Death (Michael Shannon) whose unexpected murder along the ride results in a Weekend at Bernie’s -esque scheme by Tangerine (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Lemon (Brian Tyree Henry) to create the illusion that he is still alive.
He considered his time on set as a chance to “observe” the best in the business. “They’re doing the most exciting things with fight choreography, and to see them create these dances of sorts in such a tight space…[plus,] the beats of humor throughout the fight sequences are exceptionally well-crafted,” he says. Outside of this,Lermandoes not want anyone to assume that this is in any way more than just a guy doing some friends a favor. And that’s how he talks about all of his past works, big or small. His last lead as Charlie in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, the 2012 film adaptation of Stephen Chbosky’s book of the same name, had an impact on the zeitgeist of the late aughts, causing Lerman to rise to relevance simultaneously with the first iterations of social media. From Charlie riding through a tunnel in the bed of a truck to David Bowie’s Heroes, to gifs of him telling the manic pixie girl of his dreams, Sam (played byEmma Watson), “We accept the love we think we deserve,” images and videos of Lerman were reshared across Internet dashboards worldwide for years. He became the face of a generation expressing their adolescent angst in completely new ways. Even as social media has evolved, the relevance of Lerman’s impact has just been readapted to fit new platforms. On TikTok, both Perks and Lerman pop up in conversations around nostalgia and core memories (along with how he remains a major heartthrob thanks, in part, to his girlfriend Ana Corrigan’s social presence, and the content she posts of the two of them). It’s why the film remains one of Lerman’s fondest works, and, he says, is the kind of role that drives him. “That is a really special feeling, to be a part of something and know that it’s had a big impact on someone's life," he says. “I guess that’s the bar an actor hopes to reach: making something that means a lot to someone else.”
An executive producer on a few independent projects, Lerman is privy to the backend of getting a project off the ground. At the root, the biggest obstacle is, more often than not, money: both in creating the film and the reward financiers will see when it hits the box office. This is Lerman’s biggest gripe with the industry, merely because he doesn’t agree with it. He emphasizes more than once the value of independent films, unique storytelling, and how difficult it is to be heard in all the noise of the entertainment industry’s constantly shifting landscape. “It’s the most important side of the culture that I care about so much,” he says, “Seeing films in theaters, seeing original films get made, seeing new voices attract the financing to get their movies made.” But he would be remiss to remain cynical about it, especially during a time when independent filmmakers are taking risks that have been received with overwhelming praise. He points to Everything Everywhere All At Once, the Daniels film starring Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Ke Hu Quan made with an independent film budget which received surmounting success. “[Viewers] want bolder choices,” he says. “They want new visions. They’re craving something new. I’m craving something.”
This enthusiasm for the future of film is infectious—so much so that I can’t imagine anyone rejecting an actor with a résumé of his caliber. Stepping into the spotlight at age 8 in The Patriot, followed by consecutive years as the lead in films like Hoot (which has a young Brie Larson), Stuck in Love, and The Three Musketeers, his credibility in Hollywood is unwavering. But rather than assuming everyone is familiar with his past projects, he approaches the conversation as if you’ve probably never heard of them. This humility feels like a mental tactic, one which helps him separate his identity from mega-movie star to, simply, an actor. It does not present itself in a pretentious manner—instead, it’s an evolution as a result of a lifetime of experience. “There are a lot of pressures here that are unique to Hollywood,” he continues. “I’ve had too much time to observe it. I’ve been trying to approach it with fresh eyes now.” The appreciation and sense of humility Lerman carries was something he had to learn and continues to work on. “You can’t avoid it. It’s just about recognizing it and keeping your values in line,” he says. In an industry known to absorb and destroy young talent, his approach to his work feels like a form of self-preservation. It’s also a relief to know that a person who’s had such an impact on late-aughts kids is doing alright. “Early on, it was harder for me to appreciate things,” he says. “I was too wrapped up in the newness of all of it, the newness of the entire experience of making things and being a part of things, and impacting people. But now I’m in a place where I try to enjoy it more: the entire process of being in a production and the release of it, and the impact it’s had on people.”
While the possibility of leading in a major motion film in the near future isn’t out of the question, Lerman is just fine where he is: knee-deep in preparation for the first of a slate of projects he'd begun working on during lockdown. It’s his favorite part of the process. “It’s been a really long journey, a long road so far,” he adds.“I’ve always loved it and it’s always been a passion of mine. Even though I've been doing it for so long, I still feel like I’ve just started, in a way.”

Batgirls 2022 Annual Review
Tumblr media
Batgirls Annual 2022 begins the series' fourth arc and clearly has ramifications being teased that'll change the Batgirls forever. But was it good? And what of the changes that pertain to Cass?
I'll start off with the negative. I found the issue to be pretty-- meh. For an annual, the story felt like a breeze to read. Compared to say Nightwing (which also came out) and had so many stories to it.
Also, the concept of the issue itself I just don't feel like was used to the full extent it could've been. I mean we still have an issue left. But.. there are possibilities here that are teased in the issue. Steph seeing the world thru Cass's eyes. Maybe even having her body reading abilities. It's teased in the issue, and it is also kind of obvious Cass (while in Steph) is oblivious to the trap that's sprung.
Tumblr media
But man oh man. Cass really takes a stupid pill by the issue's end. Just a few pages ago she and Steph were fighting the Hill's Angels. Suddenly, she's cool with them? EVEN UNMASKING?! What the heck Cass?!
Tumblr media
The whole scene just feels so very rushed to begin with. I'd just had Cluemaster get the better of her, given well Cass is in Steph's body and can't see body language. Aka what actually befell her in a certain infamous Tec issue.
Tumblr media
It also just feels so unCass. And it's just gnawing at me how stupid the scene was.
But it isn't what unsettles me Cass/Steph investigating a double murder which leads too-- League of Assasins. Oh, joy. Lady Shiva is appearing in this issue and she's not even part of them but STILL feels tied to the hip with the group.
It doesn't help that it appears she's also the prime suspect in the case. But I digress we're only part one in this arc.
Tumblr media
I'm just more haunted at the past stories with Asian female characters at DC and them dropping all characterization at the drop of a hat. So they can be coldly evil to their children.
It's just that Shiva feels distant here to Cass. Even with the crossroads, the two made in Batman & the Outsiders two years back.
Tumblr media
I'm getting an awful bad flashback to Shado did to Emi (Percy's Green Arrow they were on good terms. Teen Titans Shado decides to try and kill Emi 🙃) so far with Shiva's appearance here. I really hope writers Conrad and Cloonan don't be predictable with the outcome here.
But I digress. The wild card being Jervis Tetch aka the Mad Hatter hanging around the place has me to believe someone put him up to this with the Batgirls in this issue.
Tumblr media
There was also one tiny nitpick as well I had with the issue. Namely, Robi Rodriguez draws Cass with such long hair. It just feels jarring to see Cass with these long locks.  A little copy/paste of looking like Steph this issue BEFORE the body swap.
So with all these gripes I'll get to what I did enjoy about the issue. Like I said prior the opening with Cass at the art museum was *chef's kiss*. Likewise, I'm glad the series is continuing on with Rebirth Cass wanting to overcome her reading disability.
Tumblr media
It's just.. I wish we saw it more in the book itself. Save well four issues out of thirteen at this point.
We might be getting just that. As this issue teases a big new status quo.  Babs is leaving the Hill and moving back into the Clocktower (so this links up with the current Batman comic).
Tumblr media
Honestly, from beginning to end this was the best written Barbara Gordon in the entire series so far. We finally get to see a layer of Babs' character peeled back this issue. It was really good.
Likewise, she has her own snooping to have in this arc trying to fix the pair's body swap issue. I'm really curious how this subplot will end and where this goes for Babs on the book now. Is Batman and Nightwing her only main books now?
I also like the little moments of Cass sprinkled prior to the body swap too. Freaking out over the League of Assassins (given well she has dealt with them, Steph hasn't). My question does this subplot relate to the goings on in Detective Comics?
The other BIG thing is the Cass/Steph bonding this issue. It's cute. Probably the big highlight as they cope with Babs going, but also being there for one another.
Then there's the time capsule plot introduced in the issue. You know this is gonna be used in #15. It just SCREAMS it'll be.
Tumblr media
More so when it is even teased later in the issue just what Steph's letter might be for Cass.
Tumblr media
Wait-- is this happening? Are we getting something here or being baited again? Cause I feel like I heard this story before in Future State Batgirls but never them fully going with it only allusions.
Tumblr media
So yeah this was a setback in some areas but a step forward in some. I'm anxious for the next two issues because A.) the art teased so far looks absolutely stunning. B.) utterly fearful if predictably occurs.
But I'll keep myself going into this with an open mind and hopeful that Conrad and Cloonan avoid the past mistakes other writers have done with the murder moms.
I seriously just wish maybe someone can purchase a walkie-talkie sets and get Ram V to constantly say thru them, "AVOID THESE CLICHES! These characters deserve better! They deserve to be fully dimensional characters! FULLY DIMENSIONAL!"

soo. review on the son of neptune?
I’ve been thinking about this ask ever since I got it and like. I don’t think I really have a review? like I’ll be honest. there were a Lot of times when I realized I had been zoned out (Very invested in candy crush) for like five minutes and instead of going back and relistening to it I just moved on and figured it probably wasn’t important. which it wasn’t because I think I followed the book just fine. I liked it well enough but that just may be my seattle goggles. they literally rode orion across the puget sound like !!! my main thought is that the book generally just lacked emotion I guess. like there isn’t anything you could do to make me give a fuck about frank and hazel. aside from the whole. um. 13 and 16 thing it’s like I don’t CARE you know. and the whole ordeal with percy getting his memory back was something I was anticipating for the whole book and when we finally got to that point it was so like. okay. I think what made it fall so flat was that we never really got to Feel percy’s eight month or whatever absence because the lost hero followed characters who didn’t even know him. and from percy’s perspective it should have been Huge to him that he had missed such a large chunk of his life but he was like. okay not Super casual about it but MY percy would have been losing his shit trying to get back to all his pals and shitting his pants excited when that ship or whatever started to land. his little reunion with tyson was also so :/ and I’m a tyson GIRL. as for characters I think ovtavian is really silly and I hope he continues to stay somewhat relevant. frank is so boring to me sorry I dont care he’s a little silly but boring and the fucker is constantly throwing himself a pity party like dude shut UP. also. I shan’t say it again you already know. reyna seems cool but we don’t know much about her yet and I know we will but I’m excited for that. ella the harpy slayed idc every time she showed back up I cheered that’s not a joke. HAZEL horse girl of the century I love her sm. I’m still at the stage with her where I’m just rotating her around in my head give me a couple business days. hazel related thought but how are sammy and leo the same person. like they didn’t even say he looked really similar they said he was the same person. like is this important at all. like who cares? was it done for shock value? are identical twins involved? all I know is that my friend leo “bust a lugnut” valdez certainly didn’t grow up in the 1930s and 40s. overall this book was fine but they literally visited seattle and nico seems like he may actually become plot relevant soon. aside from raising hazel from the dead. one final note I lied when I said I followed the book fine I have quite literally no clue how camp jupiter operates every time they talked about some sort of hierarchal or structural thing in relation to the camp I was like fucking what are you talking about. actually I lied THIS is the final note. there are WAY too many goddamn characters to follow like rick I’m sorry but if you introduce a single new character or monster or villain or whatever I won’t be able to handle it. I’m sure if I was a greek mythology girlie I would be having a much better time with this but I’m not so I don’t know what the fuck any of the monsters are and I have to google image search them every time.

My Problem with Leo Valdez in Heroes of Olympus
I’m procrastinating doing anything useful right now, might as well do something.
I said in my last post that Leo Valdez is my least favorite of any character Rick Riordan has ever written, and that’s true. It’s not because I think he’s a bad person throughout the series (though I do think that in a lot of places), its not because I think he’s bad representation (there are fans who have written about why the representation in HOO is not great, go read what they’ve said, I agree but I am not the person to talk about it and I won’t be covering it here), it’s not because I’m anti caleo or anti lehzal (I am but that’s not the reason), it’s not even because he’s annoying as hell (I do think he is, but there are plenty of characters that are kind of annoying that I don’t hate). I despise him because of wasted potential.
Reading the Lost Hero at 14, Leo had the strongest and most consistent characterization. He was my favorite out of him, Jason, and Piper. Jason was flat and Piper was inconsistent and Not-Like-Other-Girls. Leo was interesting. He had a dark secret about his mom, he was consistently sexist in an incredibly realistic way, he had issues with toxic masculinity, he was selfish, he was a coward who wanted to be brave. From pretty early on, it seemed obvious to me that Leo’s main flaw was envy. I don’t have any narrative problems with him in TLH, I think for him it was a pretty solid base for character growth.
But the growth didn’t happen.
Leo stayed mostly the same from TLH to BOO, he is a static character and a deeply flawed character that the narrative will not acknowledge is flawed. By the end of Mark of Athena, I’d lost interest in him entirely, and by Blood of Olympus, I hated him.
I should explain where I pulled the flaws from. At some point, I’ll edit or rewrite this with page numbers and more specifics, but I lent my copy of TLH to my cousin a decade ago and am doing this from memory, so here goes.
The issues of his sexism and toxic masculinity are tied together, but mostly exist in how he thinks about women and how he compares himself to other men. A consistent thing for him throughout the whole series is that he wants a girlfriend and he’s jealous of all the other guys in the seven who are dating, its clear from pretty early on that he’s jealous of Piper and Jason’s (fake) relationship even though he doesn’t seem interested in Piper. He wants a girlfriend but he seems to want a girlfriend just to have one, to prove he’s as good as all the other guys, without really considering what sort of girl he’d actually want to date. It’s a form of objectification, the women isn’t a person you like, but a status symbol you have. There are a lot of guys like that, a lot of them are in high school, if they don’t grow out of it, they turn into those guys who don’t consider women people. You know, the ones that make ads that compare beautiful women to cars.
This is deeply tied to his toxic masculinity and his feeling of inferiority to all the other guys in the seven. In the first book, he compares himself to Jason negatively constantly, mostly in terms of stature and muscle mass, but also in terms of facial features and more general looks. It continues in the later books and expands. He’s awful to Frank because he’s jealous and picked out Frank because he is attached to Jason with his (fake) friendship and tbh Jason is a lot less vulnerable. Percy is too intimidating and again less vulnerable than Frank. A lot of the black-piller incel types would absolutely bully a guy they saw as a “chad” if they could find a vulnerability.
How Leo treats Frank relates to why I call him selfish and a coward, specifically in the first book that he became a bully to stop himself from being bullied pre-Wilderness School. He was never the primary bully, but he admits (I think to himself) that at his previous schools, he would make fun of and make jokes about whoever the primary bullies were targeting because he didn’t want to get hurt and he’s clearly ashamed about that. Yeah, it was selfish, to contribute to bullying to protect himself. It was cowardly to hide from the harm he helped inflict to protect himself. It’s also understandable and sympathetic and a place a character could grow from.
(side note: this is also the reason that I will never get behind Leo and Percy being friends, Percy’s whole thing in school in the first series was that he fought bullies cause he hated to see other people hurt. Percy’s inner monologue is sarcastic, dark, and funny, but he was never a class clown. Percy being how he is about bullies would make Leo feel inadequate for not being like that. If anythingmade sense they would mutually dislike each other until Leo had some serious character development)
The narrative is aware that Leo knows he’s a coward, at from what I remember, part of the supposed resolution to his supposed arc was that he sacrificed himself bravely, but he knew he’d survive. That’s where we get back to the selfishness too, there is no reason he couldn’t have told everyone that he was alive before going to get Calypso. No reason other than he seemed to consider everyone else an NPC in his story.
Most of these flaws come back to jealousy and envy. If I were to write an arc where Leo became a tolerable person, that would be his fatal flaw and that his what he would have to struggle with. Envy on its own isn’t bad, good flaws usually aren’t, but it can become too much. A little bit of envy is motivating, I feel envious of the amount of research and planning that the rest of my class seems to have put into their thesis proposal, and that motivates me to work on mine (...sometimes). A lot of envy gets you to incels who have given up on getting what they want and decided that other people got what they have because of luck and genetics. A lot of envy gets you people like the villain from Misery, the Stephen King novel where a woman kidnaps and mutilates her favorite author because she wants to keep him to herself.
Envy is a self-centered emotion, again not a bad thing. You have to look out for yourself before you look out for anyone else. But in HOO, Leo becomes so occupied with his own envy of everyone else, that he seems to forget that they are people as well instead of measures to compare himself to or objects to want.
Reading TLH, Leo was the only character I found really engaging, but he never moves from where he is, even though his character had so much potential for a great character arc. If the character Leo was in the first book really had taken a close look at himself, rather than heading straight towards incel town, and looked at what he didn’t like about himself. Imagine a Leo that, when he bullies Frank with fire, realizes that he is becoming like the people who hurt him when he was younger, that he can’t hide behind the primary bullies anymore and claim to just be protecting himself because he is the only one doing this. Imagine anyone calls him out for how he talks about getting a girlfriend, after the whole thing with Narcissus would be a good time.
Imagine if he had landed on Calypso’s island and she hadn’t had a thorough character assassination. Imagine if he lands there, and is like “wait does this mean I’m a hero, does this mean you’re in love with me?”, but Calypso isn’t cursed anymore (she isn’t in the book, to me it seems more like no one has bothered to tell her she can leave, but she clearly isn’t since Leo re-found Ogygia). Imagine that with the lifting of the curse she is struggling with that fact that she became a test, a temptation for heroes, and the gods played with her emotions. Imagine the implication that the curse itself compelled her and the heroes sent to her to fall in love, and it had nothing to do with her actual feelings. How would she feel about a curse making her love a very young teenager (fourteen is so young, guys, she’s millennia old) and hate him and his friends when he left (or we could just get rid of her cursing Annabeth because it’s stupid). Have Leo be confronted by Calypso’s cursed objectification, about how much it hurt her, and how his immediate emotions upon realizing where he was, was joy that he found proof that he was a hero and that someone would date him.
In this version of events, Leo wakes up to the fact that he doesn’t like who he is and that changing what friends or possessions or physical traits he has won’t change that. He has to change his behavior (with Frank), his attitude (with whoever calls him out after Narcissus), and his mind (with Calypso). Calypso can go back to the Argo with him when he leaves, the gods lifted the curse like Percy asked in TLO, they just didn’t bother to tell her because they’re kind of awful and were also distracted by Gaia. He gets back and he tries to change, maybe justify why Coach Hedge is there and have Leo ask him. By BOO, Leo, in this version, is still a little prone to envy and pessimism, but he is brave and he actually strategizes with the others. I think the climaxes of BOO are bad for a lot of reasons, including the complete lack of payoff to death foreshadowing for anyone, but I wouldn’t mind this version of Leo surviving, single and not caring as much anymore, secure in himself at least enough.
An arc for Leo wouldn’t have to go the way I’ve outlined, there are a lot of ways he could have developed. He doesn’t need to be single forever, but given his arc, if he started dating I think it would have to be sometime after the completion of his arc and after HOO as a series, else a girlfriend might seem like an award for doing better.
I hate Leo because his character was squandered potential for a good arc, in much the same way HOO was squandered potential for a good series.

dream merch discord recap (june 12, 2021) - disclaimer: i may have missed some things or mistakenly heard other things, apologies in advanced for that!
he has not played the new minecraft update
dream “knows” the date george is coming to florida but he’s not saying it :p
dream doesn’t have anyone muted on twitter
dream guesses his favorite disney princess is belle
sapnap has seen dream’s feet before
he’s not actually connor’s dad in the dsmp lore
dreamnap do not have nicknames for each other D:
dream likes olives but especially black olives
his mother makes homemade pickles
he doesn’t have a phone case
he has dropped his phone from his ear onto concrete in the parking lot before and the screen didn’t crack
dream has six fingers /j
he pours cereal first not milk when making cereal
dream calls sapnap nick most of the time :D
what’s your dream car? “idk the one that gets me to point A to point B consistently”
he finally fixed his sleep schedule, woke up at 8 am today
mrbeast owes dream a tesla because he never sent dream the audio file
dream is a very analytical person - he thinks with numbers/data
creativity is one his strengths that he is the most proud of
3 to 4 years ago, dream used to say george looks like shawn mendes a lot, now he doesn’t resemble him as much
patches is currently sleeping <3
swimming is very relaxing to dream, he swam the other day!
many houses in florida have pools than other places, even the cheapest houses in orlando have pools
dream has merchendise defects (misprints on merch) + milestone merch and he wants to give them away to those who live in orlando (probably to anyone but the event will be held in orlando) though he doesn’t want it to be a covid super-spreader thing so once you pick up your item you gotta dip. just all an idea though
he has been donating them to charity too though :)
dream has likely read Heroes of Olympus before a long time ago
he says that he’ll do a give away of his childhood books with his signature on it
he was obsessed with the series (Percy Jackson)
he really liked the Alex Rider series
has all of Maximum Ride books, 39 clues books
has read the legend series, the twilight series, and the maze runner
has all/read of the harry potter books, divergent, eragon
he would read all the time, to the point he would read more than one book a day (a book worm he says)
dream had a goal to read 200 books in a year and he wind up reading about 150
he doesn’t want to call it a library but- growing up he had something like that that had 600 or 700 or more books in it (privileged he admits it)
he has not read a book since he started youtube (about 2 years)
dream has a folder called Book that has his own writing in it
word count: 76000 words for one of his stories
another one he wrote 5 chapters of
he sounds very excited/embarrassed talking about the stories he wrote he’s so endearing
the very first paragraph of one of his stories (he was young when he wrote this) “What exactly is darkness? is it the lack of light? is it a pit of nothingness? ... your mind is full of darkness...” then he couldn’t continue.
the story is about a kid who wakes up in a cell and has no idea where he is with other people who are in the same situation
dream has a world building document
he has a sequel to the first book he has ever written
he found a query letter that he wrote because he wanted to get his book published- he finds it very funny
he’s calling himself a nerd but idk it’s kind of endearing
“as you can tell i’ve always been incredibly cool and not a nerd at all! ever.”
he cringes at his own old videos
dream took a lot of inspiration from witches and wizards by james patterson for writing
the story is written in a way where the main character is actually writing the story so you’re getting input from the main character during it. there’s a lot of sarcasm in it and it’s making dream laugh
very first person narrator
he feels like it’d be very cool if he were to publish his works he wrote when he was 16 on amazon or something but he probably never would because he’d have to read through all of it and it’s just embarrassing for him
dream used to video call sapnap fairly frequently- even before youtube
he strictly remembers, a very long time (at least 7 to 9 years) ago he was at his old childhood house he video called sapnap. he was wearing a (technically) suit and he remembers specifically that he was giving sap a tour...
“snazzy in a suit”
he had no reason to put on the suit (wow time is a flat circle huh)
drista is pretty close to sapnap’s height, she’s like 5′7″ but sap is still taller than her
dream filmed the whole thing when he and sapnap met but... it’s... gone because when he was clipping that one clip for twitter... it edited the whole video
he’s sure when they meet up with george they will film that too :D
DREAM IS PRETTY SURE THAT HE AND GEORGE WILL MEET THIS YEAR-- HE SAYS A 95% CERTAINTITY the five percent is like either restrictions or visa issues
dream does not play any instruments but he had a guitar hanging on his wall when he was younger...
dream is convinced they’re the same height but also sapnap is probably taller??
they had george compare his height to a door frame and dreamnap were googling for any doorframes to find any possible chance that george is taller than 5′8″ ... nothing came up
there’s a chance they’re both lying about being 5′8″
sap and george will literally just show up in stilts to prove they’re taller than each other /j
dream without shoes is between 6′2″ and 6′3″ with shoes he’s 6′3.5″
dream is talking about awesamdude’s fake height arc again LOL
dreamnap are very private people so they don’t bother each other but george doesn’t care and would just barge into their rooms and start bothering them- they were all joking about that over a voice call
he will visit europe
he thinks that greece would be a cool place to visit because sapnap’s family is from there :) so it’ll be like a nice “treat” to go back with sap :D
dream isn’t entirely sure that the dream team meet up will happen this year but he’s working out the details because he wants to make sure it’s safe
he’s talking to youtube about his face reveal
it’s up to george if he wants to eat healthy when they finally move in
dream just has a lot of meat and vegetables in his house
spinach with chicken is good
not much fruit (only apples and tomatoes)
“DRISTA IS 5″ is trending on twitter LOL (her height got cut off)
dream doesn’t want people flying to different places because he doesn’t want to encourage travel so he wants to do all of the meet ups with a two day heads up at most
he thinks that it’s awesome that ranboo and tubbo are meeting soon !! :D
it’s very cool to dream to see how far everyone’s has come since the beginning of the dsmp. everyone has done so much
dream finalized his youtube plan a couple weeks before he uploaded his video and he was talking to drista about how he was gonna be a big youtuber in a parking lot :”)
she was the first person he really ever talked to about it
dream would love to teach george how to drive it’d be really funny :D (a very good video or a livestream idea)
dream knows how to ride a bike, he used to have to bike to school
he can’t explain dnf.gay he has no clue he is not responsible. sapnap was the one who found it LOL. he is adamantly exclaiming that it was not him
dream doesn’t worry about views/likes/dislikes a lot- mainly views but that’s for the new uploads
he hasn’t uploaded in like a month and a half (*cries*)
he wants to stream at some point but he doesn’t know when
he wants to play geoguessr but not now... he doesn’t want to alt stream rn- maybe tomorrow!
he is insisting that the splash text on his minecraft home screen is by callahan
he asked callahan to send him bunch of text files that are dream team related so that the splash can rotate through it but callahan thought it was funny (it is) to put only dreamnotfound <3 so it doesn’t ever change at all and dream doesn’t even know how to change and he has asked callahan to change it but he said no (even though dream pays him LMAO)
the video referenced in the padilla’s video is still in the works, it might be handed over to sapnap though !
he has no idea if he will be in MCC pride yet
padilla got dream’s input for the video, dream found him to be a very nice guy ! :) it’s the first interview that dream did that wasn’t by a person with a negative opinion of dream
dream felt relaxed doing the interview with padilla
?????? he’s blaming callahan for his “dnfisreal” nickname in bedwars
he’s blaming callahan for a lot of dnf-related stuff
callahan runs the dream fanart account thus the liking of dnf content
he’s so insistent that it was callahan
dream admits that he was lying about the twitter and other stuff but for sure callahan did code the splash text in LOL
dream liking that tweet “the chances of george doing a hot tub stream is the same of dnf dating” was “funny” he wasnt trying to do any commentary...
the inside joke of “oh it’s all just a joke to you” originates from george and sapnap actually always fighting (like them yelling and shouting at each other) and george said something really mean and sapnap was hurt then geroge said “it was just a joke” and sapnap replied with that line and ever since then it’s been a meme LOL
he says that everyone does the hand-on-the-passenger-seat-while-reversing thing
dream is offline raiding with his chat with 6k people
dream appreciates us and will talk to us soon!
