Hey, everyone!

My name is Ley (she/they) and I'm a fiction writer/editor based in the PNW. I've been off Tumblr for a few years, but I found myself missing the writing communities I was a part of. I'm excited for the chance to find more people who share my interests!

About Me:

I have a BA in English with a minor in Creative Writing

I identify as queer

I write mostly SFF, but I like genre-hopping and fanfic

I'm a Libra sun, Aquarius moon, Pisces rising

I can feel my neurodivergency in my bones but I don’t yet have a dx on paper

I'd really like to connect with other writers like myself, who got their start in fandom spaces and are working to take their writing from a hobby into a career.

I'll mostly be talking about creative writing on my blog, whether that's talking craft and sharing writing advice or posting my own work. I like to describe my style as "character-forward," which is just a fancy way of saying that I like disgruntled protagonists that think too much.

I'm also absolute fandom trash, so you'll likely see me engaging with a lot of that, too. I wish I could say I’ll be chill about it, but I’ve unfortunately never been chill about anything in my life.

I am always so, so excited to talk about other people's writing projects, so feel free to drop an ask anytime to tell me about your work! I also love to talk way too much about my other interests, so definitely hit me up if you think we have something else cool in common.

I plan to write a novel in six months.

Well...rewrite. Finish. I'm cheating a little because I wrote a first draft in 2015 (I was 15) and a second draft in 2020.

Anyway, here's the plan:

for visual's, here's a video version.

By the end of month 1:

Finish reading both drafts, making general notes about structure, order, and character. Create outline based on that - I'm usually a panster, this will be new for me but I've basically already pantsed the whole thing Move all outdated files to an external hard-drive

End of month 3:

Handwrite the 2nd draft. - handwriting doesn't allow for the backspace button, friends. I also have a journal I have to use up. But eh, might change my mind.

End of month 4:

Type up the handwritten draft - this allows me to make small edits

End of month 5:

Finish a round of editing. More in depth editing. Preferably, I finish in 2 weeks to give my brain proper rest time away from the project.

End of Month 6:

Final edits, and done.

What do you mean it’s December already........

Total word count is up to 9k words! But 1k of that is some stuff that will be completely rewritten later on, so I don’t know how much that’ll change.

PART I: Don’t Talk To Strangers is done by draft two standards! As I said in the previous update, each part is treated as its own kind of mini-arc (TV episode style).

Each part will also be named after one of Dany and Marisa’s Cardinal Rules™. PART II is tentatively named Emergencies Only.

For Part I, the biggest hindrance to completion is a chunk of backstory that just felt like a slog (as mentioned in the previous update), the reasoning being that it’s wayyy too trivial for Dany to be thinking about at that specific time, and the more serious narration style of the NOW chapters just didn’t work with how childish it is. So now the flashback will go in a THEN chapter, where the more lighthearted diary entry style fits better.

I’m now two chapters into Part II, and I added a small but new conflict to make things more interesting: Suddence is the mining town that Dany is trying to reach, but they have no idea where it is other than a vague area. This will likely become the main conflict for Part II (figuring out where Suddence is) and would allow the characters to uncover more Lore™ in their research.

There was a TV playing the news and it was showing those pictures of me and Marisa again. It was on mute so thankfully the cash lady couldn’t hear it. The captions said the cops were “on the lookout” and that I was “kidnapped” and “do not approach.” That last one is some good advice. Approach and get SPARKED. Approach and EAT BULLET.

The cash lady wasn’t watching it, but just in case, I sparked the antenna juuuust a bit so it would only get static.

Cash lady put everything in a paper bag for me. She also gave me a red candy! It was cherry flavoured.
