i have a theory about why i’m so burnt out !!

#so i’ve been doing this combination preschool teaching/childcare thing for almost five years now #i’ve worked with kids of all ages #the youngest being two months #and have watched so many kids grow #and it’s been so rewarding #but i am so so so exhausted #and i think this is for two reasons #1) switching from multiple coworkers at the daycare to just me at the daycare to just me nannying #it ramped up a lot of pressure caring for so many children almost entirely on my own in 2020/2021 #my boss barely did anything except cook meals. i was doing the hands on work and the teaching and the monitoring. #i really suffered without my coworkers to rely on #then going from that education/childcare environment to an in-home nannying position #where my relationship with the parents is much more personal.. ough. i had to mask so much more (mask in the autistic sense) and it was like #i was being watched 24/7. so that’s the first reason!! #the second reason is 2) if i were a mother my child would be about kindergarten age #like thinking about the experience i have with all these children.. if the years i spent caring for them were surmounted i’d have a #school aged child and would be so spent and that kid would go to kindergarten and i’d have a few hours to relax just a bit #does that make sense?? the childcare i’ve done can’t be compared to motherhood of course but the time i’ve spent with these kids #honing their skills. playing with them. changing diapers. crafting projects. scheduling. sending them to kindergarten….. it’s A Lot #for A Lot of kids #doesn’t it make logical sense i’d be so worn out doing all those things for this long?? #i spent more time with lots of these kids than their parents considering their bedtimes #like i had between eight and ten hour work days #idk the more i think about it the more it just seems natural i’d be burnt out !! #especially because they aren’t my children. i loved them all dearly as a childcare provider but don’t have the love a parent has #*can have (sorry). ​which can spur them to do just about anything for them. u know??? #idk !! i’m excited to get out of early childhood development and childcare but also sad because it’s the only thing i know how to do hdbdjdn #anyways.txt

I really despise the Marvelification of Stranger Things, because all the interviews nowadays are constantly referencing how fast paced and epic and big the finale will be but the reason people fell in love with the show wasn't special effects or long episodes; it was the plot, it was the characters, it was the mystery. Stranger Things 1 may have been a story about a government conspiracy and a monster, but that's not why we stuck around. The show can throw amazing CGI, Russians, a battle within the American army and an apocalypse at the audience with the biggest budget known to man but if they forget to ground it and keep it central, it'll just get lost amongst a plethora of other "epic" blockbusters. We want Steven King, not Avengers.

I mean, some HAVE a silhouette!! It could mean they do have a design in the making/ready to show. They could’ve shown us Falena in the Tamashina (hope I said that correctly) event, but didn’t (prolly to make Leona not so σ(▼□▼メ) and it’s understandable)

Anyhow, any idea/headcannon about this? Who do you want to see first?

I'm wondering if everyone might eventually get a travel event? like they've now introduced with Vil's that it doesn't have to be specifically hometowns, so that opens things up a lot! (especially if they have to figure out how to do three separate Coral Sea visits) (how would that even work otherwise)

but yeah, I hope everyone gets a chance! there's a lot of backstory characters I would LOVE to meet. :D :D :D though I do think some of them don't really suit the more light-hearted tone of the events (pretty sure you're right about that being why Falena wasn't in Tamashina-Mina, that would've just been. too much for Leona.) so like...we're probably not ever going to meet the Rosehearts. or Maleficia (although I maintain that this would be THE funniest possible way to introduce her outside of the main story, and actually I would love this a lot, can we please Twst) (I need to see her to put Malleus in a froofy little outfit and tell him what a handsome boy he is). but they've sprung surprises like Kifaji on us, and honestly anyone who shows up and tells embarrassing stories about characters' childhoods is good in my book!

Thinking about how much I love the spawn Astarion graveyard sex scene (well, 'scene' is a generous term, since it's fade-to-black, but that's part of why I like it). I personally headcanon that it was pretty spontaneous--that Astarion didn't bring Tav there for that purpose, that he had originally intended just to show the one he loves the place where his life first ended to talk about his new life beginning. But, when the mood shifted just right, Astarion took a chance and grasped the feeling.

If it was spontaneous, it would probably have been the first completely uncalculated sex that Astarion can remember having. Sex that was far more about the emotions surrounding it than the sex itself. Yes, it's in the open on a grave, but it's not played off as done for the thrill or anything like that--if the place that held meaning for Astarion had been indoors, he would have done it there. It was about overwriting this place of horror with an act of love and intimacy and enjoyment (and there's an edge of defiance to it that is so Astarion, ugh I love it), a first step in Astarion writing his new life. And, with the fade-to-black, reinforcing that he is done with performance.

ok this sounds insane but in 2018 i went to a few carnivorous plant talks at the botany conference in minnesota. i got caught up in conversation with one of the guys there who was a huge nepenthes guy who told me a story about another collector in the pacific northwest who'd been buying poached plants, like a huge amount, and eventually got staked out by the fish and wildlife service and arrested and had all his plants seized and went to prison for it. idk if i ever talked about this on this blog before-- i know i liveblogged a lot from that conference but cant remember what all i posted-- but ive avoided talking about it since then because i was never able to find like, news articles or anything covering it, but behold.... we now have proof it was real, and im like 80% sure this was this guy he was talking about. the raid happened in 2016 and they'd been staking them out since 2013. he had nearly 400 plants and had been sourcing many of them from poachers in indonesia and borneo.

remember folks: poaching happens with plants too! it's a huge problem not only in carnvirous plants (nepenthes especially, which this piece is dedicated to talking about) but also in native plant populations in the US, including native carnivorous plant populations (north and south carolina's venus fly traps, california's darlingtonia, and sarracenia from the east coast), native orchids (historically one of the most poached categories), desert plants/cacti/succulents, and slow-growing woody ornamentals (cycads, for example). never buy bare-root plants off ebay or facebook! your best bet is local nurseries (which usually purchase farm-raised plants that do well in a wide range of conditions, and as a result have a healthy population in the wild) or specialty greenhouses (more expensive, but at least in the case of carnivorous plants offer young plants bred from established adult plants in-house, raised in captivity).
