Kuk Kok Leung (Lead Director)
Kuk Kok Leung is a veteran director who started his career in Hong Kong's TVB. He's been nominated for the prestigious Magnolia Award and is known for wuxia and serious, warm-blooded historical dramas (he's adapted 7 out of 8 Jinyong novels). His works include...

So you get the picture. He makes TV for men who are ready to bleed for their country. This all makes him a really interesting choice for TTEOTM (and tells you a bit about the ambition and creative vision of the producers), especially since all his more recent idol dramas were widely panned.
Wang Haiqi, Director & Action Director
We don't know too much about Wang Haiqi because TTEOTM is actually his directorial debut. He started his career in stunts and has worked as the action coordinator on Ashes of Love (2018) and Immortality (unreleased) alongside Luo Yunxi. He was also a stunts man/double in a bunch of Hollywood films, including Mulan (2020) and the Foreigner (2017) through the Jacky Chan stunts team.
He's responsible for most of the action/battle scenes in TTEOTM, and his experience working on films probably explains why the fight sequences are unusually cinematic for TV.
Luan Hexin, Art Director
Luan Hexin is a Magnolia Award nominated art director best known for Huanyu productions, including Story of Yanxi Palace, Winter Begonia, and Royal Feast. He's a serious art guy, as you can tell from this interview.
(Note: Huanyu is Bai Lu's management company. There is a rumor that Luan Hexin is part of Bai Lu's "dowry", but the parties have since clarified that Luan was brought in after she was cast.)
He's also an interesting choice, having never worked on costume fantasies before and better known for his authentic representation of the look and feel of bygone eras.
Huang Wei, Costume Designer
Huang Wei is one of the most sought-after costume designers working today, especially for xianxias. She started her career as a Vogue China editor and was in fact the person responsible for TTEOTM's Dunhuang-inspired aesthetics.
Her better known works include A Dream of Splendor (2022), One and Only (2020), Love O2O (2015), Back from the Brink (2023) as well as a bunch of highly anticipated dramas like Immortality and The Last Immortal. (The joke on Chinese internet is that there is an "expensive" vs. "cheap" version of Huang Wei costumes - her design can be much simpler on lower-budget productions.)
I'd like to think that after designing 40 mostly white costumes for Luo Yunxi in Immortality, she decided to go nuts on color with Tantai Jin.
Tsang Ming Fai, Makeup Designer
Tsang Ming Fai is a big name in the xianxia circuit. He and his team of “students" have worked on a large number of costume dramas, including Ashes of Love (2018), Love & Redemption (2020), Under the Power (2019), Noble Aspirations (2016), Sword of Legends (2014), as well as the... wait for it... unreleased Immortality and Luo Yunxi's currently filming drama Follow Your Heart.
He's sadly been receiving a lot of hate in fan circles over the heavy makeup in TTEOTM (which may or may not have been his call). What I do appreciate is his ability to help actors craft distinct characters with varied hair and makeup choices. For example you can distinguish between different Luo Yunxi characters and their personalities with Runyu's clean cut tie-back half ponytail (ethereal & straight laced), Tantai Jin's slightly brown hair, messy bangs and heavy eye shadow (dark & sickly), Chu Wanning's angular eyebrows and geometric hair puff (strict & proud).
He also excels at creating unusual, iconic looks even for side characters, e.g. Chen Yao's dark lipstick paired with gothic jewelry in Immortality and Chen Duling's retro updo in TTEOTM.

May I ask if there’s any mcr fics that you would recommend
These are what I've enjoyed so far. All Frerard (Frank/gerard) fic recs. I have many more to read (saved about 100 fics yikes) so will have more recs in the future if anyone is interested? A lot of supernatural, spooky and ghosty ones here. And, lots of Danger Days as that's what got me into reading them in the first place. Of course I started with what is seen as the holy fic trinity. important info: in this dr i am 17. it is the 2018 f1 season and i am racing alongside lewis hamilton for the mercedes-amg petronas f1 team. it is my first year in f1.
what is my racing history? i have been karting ever since i was 7 years old (2008). i started with regional championships and won before winning nationally. i won some championships internationally as well. i didn't have a lot of money but my parents helped me to achieve my dreams, especially since i was really good at it. i began racing around the world with ricky flynn motorsports. i won multiple WSK world and european series. i raced in these circuits until 2015 when i won the CIK-FIA Euro championship and 2016 when i won the CIK-FIA world championship with Birel ART Racing. i was hired by prema racing to drive as an f2 driver in 2017, and became world champion by the end of the season. after this i was hired by mercedes on a lucrative, one-year contract.
who are my friends? my closest friend is my best friend charles leclerc, who was my teammate at prema. me and him had a title fight in 2017. i am very close with his family <3 love them dearly. i am also close with his brother arthur! we met through charles and karting. my other closest friend is logan sargeant. he has been my best friend for years. we grew up karting together since my first year and remained super close as we both started karting in europe. i also competed against oscar piastri for a while and he is a good friend of me and logan. i am also friends with lewis hamilton as he is my teammate at mercedes. i am acquanited and friendly with max verstappen as we raced against each other in karting quite a few times. i know a lot of the other f1 racers from karting actually (:
any romantic relationships? no! i don't have any current romantic relationships.
what is currently happening? i had been getting podium since the start of the season, breaking multiple records not only as a woman but as the youngest f1 driver. however, at the canada grand prix, i won with a grand slam (fastest lap, pole position, first place). i also won in france and austria. i am doing extremely well!
any current conflicts? yes. multiple. mercedes has not been a good working environment. lewis is great, but i am not taken very seriously in the garage. i am also told not to overtake lewis even when i have openings and the next driver is multiple seconds behind. i have recently taken to ignoring these orders because they're stupid which has caused a lot of problems with toto wolff.
toto also ignored my complaints during monaco. i told him i had very little control over the car and something was off during qualifying, but he didn't listen and i had to drive at the race with little control over the car. it cost me a podium and i got p4. he also yelled at me after i won in canada because it was at the price of lewis getting p2, which is awful! but i am looking into new potential contracts for 2019 (redbull is looking promising if daniel leaves, which he will).
i am also nervous for my 10th race of the season which is silverstone, because i crashed there (not my fault at all) during my 2017 season in f2. it was pretty bad. the car exploded with me inside and i was concussed, but not majorly injured. charles also crashed a bit further ahead and ran to help me get out. however, i think this next race will be fine.

Link's Awakening HD!!! I love the art style of this game a lot and I hope the developers continue to make more HD remakes of the older games! As someone who played the oracle games before this one, this game improved a lot on playability and design so it was really nice breath of fresh air to not struggle against some of the rough aspects of those games (hardhat beetles). I wish I could've loved this game more, but as much as I enjoyed this game I still had issues with it (same with every Zelda game honestly :/).

Summary:
What an incredible remake. The opening and ending animations, the smooth gameplay, the amazing new remodels, wow. This was so charming. I am angry about the racist bosses and that did affect my score and I am just not excited to see them again when I play DX. (I know this is an issue throughout the whole Zelda franchise and even in my favorite games like OOT it frustrates me, esp since later games made some of these problems worse. But the 2D games were a lot better about their designs so it was just upsetting to see this in Link's Awakening, especially since this is a remake from 2019 and no one on the developers team thought it was a good idea to change the racist designs). Although I haven't played the original LA, I can say from my experience with the oracle games that this is an incredible improvement. Some enemies are absolutely the worst to fight in the pixel games and everything was just smoothed over and so much more enjoyable. I really hope they do remake the oracle games like this one because they're so fun and silly that I know my ratings of the game would increase with a contemporary redesign. Also what a cool story. Link, half dead, experiencing a dream world filled with early Nintendo figures. It's so unique and silly, I really enjoyed exploring the whole world. Nintendo should remake more old games and cut their shit out with these damn racist designs.

Asking for drarry fics where draco is an equal partner to harry :) No specific tropes! Draco doesn't have to be as magically powerful as harry. I just want a fulfilled arc for draco :/ The vibes being like, draco standing next to harry and they know they are partners. I need to read something to offset the amount of fics i've read where draco is made to work so hard for his growth only for the narrative to turn on him or have him be written as so complex, and then be sidetracked by harry...
Hello! I think I know what you mean, although I’ve seen seen more and more fics putting them on equal footing which is great.
Imho All Our Secrets Laid Bare by FTS is still the best (case) fic exploring a competent and powerful Draco standing by Harry’s side. And in terms of Draco’s arc, Heal Thyself by astolat is my all-time favorite (it’s a character-centric fic so there’s not a lot of Harry or Drarry in it). If you’re into Auror partners dynamics I think you might enjoy these as well:

Okay I'll try my best with the summary hahaha just a few fun facts before I get to it: this was my #1 show for the past 4 years, until tlou rolled around, we are on our last stretch of episodes before saying goodbye (my heart is broken) and a word of warning: if you get into it, you will love it as much as you will hate it. This stupid beloved show of mine can be a real pain in the ass sometimes 😂

So at the beginning we have these four lovely people who all find each other just when they need it the most when their lives are at their lowest. They are DC superheroes (some on their way to becoming them) but the most important thing the show had always put focus on (more or less sometimes but we lived through it) is that team is family. The team grows over time and they learn how to be a team and fight evil together and all that but these four are the core of it.
So, on the left you have the kids: Gar Logan and Rachel Roth. If you're familiar with DC Comics in any capacity, you might know them as Beast Boy and Raven. Gar can shift into animals and Rachel is a daughter of a demon. Fun times with these two!
Then we have the parents: Dick Grayson and Kory Anders. Known as Robin, then Nightwing and Starfire.
Dick is a master detective with some sick martial art skills (trained by Batman himself) and Kory is an alien powerhouse Queen!
Leaders of the team. Heads of the family. Father and Mother who will do absolutely everything to protect their children.
They also have an epic love story going on, just so you know. Season 4 is really taking them places.
Now, when I started this show, I came here for some superhero fun. But I stayed because the pilot episode served me one of the best father-daughter duos I have ever seen. Think of Joel and Ellie's "if you're lost in the darkness, search for the light" but here it's almost LITERAL sometimes. Dick has metaphorical darkness in him and Rachel is the one who brings out the light for the first time. But Rachel has the literal darkness in her and Dick is the first person in her life who isn't afraid of it and helps her accept it as a part of her.
She has a dream about him before they even meet and when they do, she immediately knows. And he's scared shitless of this new attachment, he's dark, violent, has issues and he can't do family but here is this orphaned girl who knows things about him that she shouldn't and hell if his heart isn't beating a little faster.
This scene here, it has a grip on my throat since 2019 and isn't planning to let go. This is where it all begins.
As for the plot, each season is a different thing. Season 1 is protecting Rachel from her father, season 2 is trying to settle down as a team but ghosts of the past are making it difficult, season 3 is about sibling rivalry and how that can fuck up a family and a bit of generational trauma, and season 4 is all over the place with a giant prophecy, some big and small returns, magic and shit, but season 4 is when the family is finally the strongest!

Aledis the Blue Yorkie
Meet Aledis, a Littlest Pet Shop OC (original character) that I created on October 2019. Before I could tell information about this character, I like to say what I have done on February 2, 2024 in the morning. Initially, I was going to archive more files that I considered necessary and that were only found in a desktop computer that used to run Windows 7. Unfortunately, when I started up said desktop computer, I found out that it has been broken down sometime after the end of support of the Professional and Enterprise volume licensed versions, making most of them lost media. What a pity that I couldn't archive them before that software rot!
In compensation of what happened to the older computer, I had to write the following information of this original character from memory:

Species: Dog (Yorkshire Terrier)
Gender: Cisgender female
Personal gender pronoun: She/Her
Alignment: Social good
Likes: Literature (especially fiction books and poems), rationalism, science (especially physics) and art
Dislikes: Pseudoscience, fringe theories, blockchain and similar concepts, negative evaluation
Description: Aledis is a blue-furred Yorkshire Terrier that is commonly seen wearing a wreath of flower in her left ear and a green bandana in one of her forelegs. She also has a white star-shaped birthmark that is slightly hidden in her neck's fur. Namewise, Aledis' attitude is described as being intelligent, innovative, progressive, adventurous, and slightly rebellious. As a result, Aledis herself is feminist and will fight for animal rights. Despite being a ratter, Aledis can spare the lives of rodents, including mice and rats. However, she has fear of negative evaluation and a slight spatial anxiety. In some occasions, she is able to take one for the team when necessary. She is depicted as the cousin of Brown Yorkie and is rational enought to be skeptical about magic and paranormal events.
Biography: Aledis was born in Pets Plaza (a place that is found exclusively on the 2008 video game adaptation of Littlest Pet Shop) along with her two siblings. One day, Aledis was suddenly become displaced from her original dimension. To make matters worse, she discovers that the planet she is sent to, the Glade of Dreams, contains hostile beings that are more dangerous compare to that of her native parallel world. In order to deal with it, Aledis uses the survival skills her mother taught earlier. During the journey, she meets a like-minded dweller of the Glade of Dreams that she befriends. Eventually, both of them are sent to a more peaceful world and, over time, she befriends two more female nonhuman characters from different parallel universes.
If anyone asks when Aledis appeared for the first time, the earliest drawings featuring her were first posted on Rayman Pirate Community, as I have a currently inactive account and Aledis used to be the co-mascot of this account along with a Rayman OFC (original female character). As drawn in an approximately five-year-old paper, she originally looked like this in an old artstyle:
Yes, the older picture is a model sheet in the form of traditional art, and it is written in Spanish. By January 2023, I have improved this art style to the current one (such as the digital art I have made for Aledis) so that I removed these drawing quirks found on her head for consistency. Therefore, it's time to give her a chance to make a comeback.

About a prickly place: Seeing the hidden side in the 45th selected work of Denny Ja
In the world of art, there are many works that have deep and inspiring messages. One of the artists who has long been known in the world of Indonesian art is Denny JA, a writer and also a productive theater director. At the age of 45, Denny JA has produced many interesting and diverse works.
In this article, we will explore some of the selected works from Denny JA which shows the hidden side in life and Indonesian society. In his work, Denny Ja often raises important social issues and gives a new view to the audience.
One of the chosen works of Denny Ja is “Letter to Angel” which was performed by the Jala Budaya Theater in 2015. In this drama, Denny Ja raised the issue of women and domestic violence. Denny Ja cleverly brought the audience into the emotional world and suffering experienced by victims of violence, while giving hope and inspiration for those who needed the power to rise.
Another interesting work from Denny Ja is “a prickly place,” musical drama performed by the Koma Theater in 2018. This musical drama tells the story of the struggle of a person with disabilities who are trying to achieve their dreams and overcome the limits he faces. Denny Ja brilliantly shows how each individual has extraordinary potential, although there may be many obstacles along the road.
In addition, in his work, Denny Ja also often elevates the political and historical issues of Indonesia. In 2016, he worked on a musical drama titled “Soekarno: One Indonesia” which was performed by the Garasi Theater. This musical drama illustrates the journey of life and the struggle of Sukarno, the first president of the Republic of Indonesia, in fighting for national independence. Denny Ja neatly combines the elements of history and music in this work, so that the audience can feel the spirit of struggle that inspires this great figure.
Not only that, in his other work, Denny Ja also succeeded in combining Indonesian traditional elements with interesting contemporary touch. For example, in the musical drama “Nyai Ontosoroh” which was performed by the Koma Theater in 2019, Denny Ja raised the issue of social and female classes in the Dutch colonial society. This musical drama not only touches the hearts of the audience through its strong story, but also with the use of stunning traditional music and dance.
Through his diverse work, Denny Ja managed to present a different perspective and arouse the feelings of the audience. He invites us to reflect on important issues in society, generate empathy, and inspire us to act.
However, behind all the beauty and inspiration contained by the work of Denny Ja, there is a complex creative and challenging process. In creating the work, Denny Ja must go through an intensive research stage, in -depth writing, and directing that combines various artistic elements. He also had to cooperate with a talented team of artists to realize his vision and idea.
In his long journey as an artist, Denny Ja had received many awards and recognition of his extraordinary work.

Does popular culture have an impact on Ukrainian nationalism?
It is currently commonly known that the borderlands (that is, the literal meaning of Ukraine) has been terraformed into a battleground against the Russian invasion. Recently, the defending army has liberated the village of Robotyne and is closing in on the city of Bakhmut, as seen in the picture below (The Visual Journalism Team 2023).

Such cases present an argument on the nationalism that is present in the Ukrainian population, the will to defend their land. The question that is now raised is whether or not popular culture has played a role in the nationalistic identity of Ukraine. This blog shall discuss the history of Ukrainian nationalism through the arts and its role in the country today.
History of popular culture influence on Ukrainian nationalism
Art has played a role in separating between the Slavic inhabitants of Ukraine from the outside world ever since the conception of the earliest Slavic states. The Primary Chronicle documents the entirety of the history of the Kyivan Rus' from the founding by Rurik to its demise by the Mongols (Cross & Webzor 1953). It also describes the struggle between the newly Orthodox Christian ruler and the then pagan people, with Grand Prince Volodimier (or Vladimir) the First being converted and subsequently converted the people of Kyiv to the religion while destroying the statues of their old pagan gods, such as Perun, and throwing them into the Dnieper River (Thompson & Ward 2019).

True Ukrainian identity, however, only started to take shape during the time of the Russian Empire, though it seemed to be discouraged. Despite this, the population of what is now Ukraine pressed on and found other ways to express their desire to be differentiated as Ukrainians. One of this was the poet Taras Shevchenko, who was imprisoned and casted to Siberia due to his poems, now compiled as Kobzar (Fleshman 2020). During this exile, he wrote a number of poems about the horrid state of Ukraine under the imperial rule, such as in the poem "A Dream" where he describes his home place as being "gone as a playground of the kings", or in another poem titled "Caucasus" where the Ukrainians were used to fight in the Circassian War by the Tsar, whereas they themselves fought for the sake of freedom (Hellingman 2022). Before these poems, Shevchenko also painted the scenery of his Ukrainian homeland including the city of Kyiv at the time and the famous Vydubychi Monastery, but also the harsh lives of the Ukrainian people such as in "Fairy Tale" (Orlova 2012). Taras Shevchenko is heralded as the national poet of Ukraine and is beloved by the people, even being borne the name by a university in Kyiv, which he had worked in during his life (Anatoliyovich 2023).

Under the wing of the Soviet Union, the Ukrainian people was once again being persecuted by the Russians. Most notable case of this was the Holodomor, a genocide of the Ukrainian people caused by an intentional famine by Stalin's regime which caused the death of approximately 3.5 million Ukrainians at the lowest (Gorbunova & Klymchuk 2020). During such times and beyond while within the USSR, there were many revolutionary writers in Ukraine which had been executed due to their literature, which the Soviet Union repressed. One of these was Pavlo Hubenko, who wrote the satirical book "Hard Times" under the pseudonym "Ostap Vyshnya" which told the tragedies of Ukraine under Soviet rule in a comedic, witty manner (Glagoslav Publications 2018). Another, a writer, linguist, and dissident, Boris Antonenko-Davydovych, wrote "How do we speak" which highlighted observed mistakes in the Ukrainian language of the time due to the influence of Russian, and subsequently was sent to gulag for 10 years (A Chronicle of Current Events 1970). Meanwhile, Hryhorii Epik wrote the prose "Bez gruntu" in 1928 where he ridiculed the Soviet conformist who had a system of cajoling the strong while bullying the weak. He was subsequently shot in Sandarmokh, along with many other great writers of the time (Kupriienko et.al. 2012). Nowadays, the generation of writers there are referred as the "Executed Renaissance" (Higgins 2023).

Pop culture influence on Ukrainian nationalism today
Until today, the people of Ukraine has remained strongly patriotic to their country and will defend it in any way possible during dangerous times. With the advent of social media, Ukrainian communities within the homeland and abroad are able to band together and defend wherever and whenever. Such is the case during the Euromaidan, where thousands of people, mostly in Kyiv, went to the streets and revolted due to the harsh repression and rampant corruption under Viktor Yarukovych's presidency (euronews 2014). According to a study by Onuch (2015), Ukrainians, especially those identifying with the Ukrainian mother tongue, found information about and joined protests from social media such as FaceBook. The most famous post, by Mustafa Nayyem, took part in inciting the protest and later revolution and recruiting new, younger participants (Soldatov & Borogan 2015). Other notable incidents of social media involves the hashtag #KyivNotKiev in multiple social media to rid Ukrainian place names, and by extension, Ukrainian culture, of Russian influence (Korespondent 2019), or "Njet Vladimir", a corruption of the song "Niet Molotoff" that had been used by the Finns in the Winter War, to equate the current Russian president Vladimir Putin with Vyacheslav Molotov, who had been murdered for trying to Russify the native people (Antti 2022).

Conclusion
From the foundations of the Kyivan Rus' to the recent conflicts, the Ukrainians are fiercely loyal to the country and will strive always for their lands to be and stay independent, and contemporary culture help inspire and prove their nationalism. Even today, the art and literature of bygone people such as Shevchenko are still used as Ukrainian symbols, during Euromaidan (Ayres 2014) and in the concurring Russo-Ukrainian War (Moysaenko 2022). As such, Ukrainian literature, art, media, and other parts of their culture will remain as one of the reasons for the passion of Ukrainian nationalism.
