The reaction to the Barbie Movie amongst conservatives really deserves to be the final nail in the coffin of that stupid "Feminists and LGBTQ people just want to be pandered to nowadays" argument that comes up whenever an LGBTQ character or vaguely feminist woman dares to exist in a mainstream film.

Thirty-to-forty year old straight white republican men walked into the fucking Barbie Movie and are sincerely pissed off that it wasn't made with them in mind as the target audience.

They've literally forgotten what it's like to not be pandered to.

After watching it, I’m giving the Barbie movie two separate grades.

The first grade for people who can just sit back, engage with the movie on the surface level, and enjoy is an A. There’s an interesting plot, funny jokes, a lot of creative worldbuilding, and some good emotional moments that really hit.

For people who are like me and cannot turn the analytical themes and story structure and character arc brain off, I give it a C. All the stuff from above still applies and will elevate the experience, but the movie is irreparably dragged down by how much it wants to Say Something, and does in various individual moments make salient points, but fail utterly in creating any sort of coherent message.
