Top five parent supporting characters in comics?
okeydokey top 5 parent supporting characters. I will be grouping parents who are mom and dad together :P
Berto and Bianca Reyes - they are the top comic parents of all time IMO. They just work very well with Jaime's story and we get to see them supporting him and I love them.
Jonathan and Martha Kent - I love that we can see superman come to his parents when he's an adult for comfort and advice, I think it's something we don't see a ton in fiction!
Arella - she's so tragic and works very well with raven's character. She makes me so emo! She gave up her happiness for Raven! She jumped into the Netherverse to fight endlessly against the man who tormented her to save her daughter! And then the complete lack of communication after Terror of Trigon which I think works very well for their characters even though it was not nice to Raven :P
Hippolyte - another mom who makes me emo! Started feeling things about her way back in Perez's run when we see her questioning the gods when Zeus turns his eye on Diana (sadly then this is like. not made into anything). And then we definitley have the "i'll do anything for my daughter even if it screws over other people". And I love the idea behind her and Diana's conflict in Jimenez's run (sadly lots of it was built off very mid JSA comics that do not adequately explain why Hippolyte has such a connection to JSA)
Rudy and Mary West - OK look are they good parents? No. Do they fill supporting character roles amazingly in Messner-Loebs Flash? yes :P To quote Rudy "by pretending to be dead, so taht he can talk to me 'psychically i've corrupted my son, made him betray his beliefs and turned him into a cheap pitchman. somehow i thought this would be more fun" (link) anyway very fun to read about!

thinking about: how jaime may not have wanted to be a hero, maybe especially not with the world-ending mass-murder class of powers he got literally wired with, but from the start of his arc he asks for responsibility. it's integral to his character

Here comes the boooy~
Ok, here are the basics of my Werebeetle au! (The name will make more sense below, so hear me out).
It all starts some time after the events of the movie, the Reyes house had been rebuilt and now everyone, but especially Jaime can carry Berto's mourning in peace, right?.
Unfortunately this is not the case when Booster Gold and the Justice League arrive at the door asking Jaime (or rather forcibly recruiting him) to help them destroy Brother Eye.
We don't know exactly if it was the desperation or the admiration of seeing his "idols" that made Jaime agree to help them. In the hope that maybe in return they could help him learn more about his powers, find out exactly where Khaji came from (Khaji Da when he was attacked by the green lantern the files or memories of his past were corrupted or deleted. therefore like him and like everyone else they have no idea what the Reach is). Hell, they may even be able to help Jenny find out what happened to her dad!
That mission could not fail in any way, could it?
Imagine Jaime's terror when he tries to escape from the explosion and see his heroes, escape and leave him to his fate to die alone thousands of light years away from Earth, his home and especially his family and girlfriend.
It was a night of absolute terror for Jaime. For the Reyes and Jenny family it was a year of anguish and despair. During that time they tried everything to find Jaime. Joining brigades of searching mothers and fathers (necessary context, Here in my country, Mexico. Unfortunately there has been an increase in the number of missing persons due to organized crime and the negligence of the authorities to attend to the complaints of the families looking for their missing persons. Therefore these same families founded their own search brigades and travel all over the country and do not rest until they find their relatives dead or alive.), missing persons posters, aerial search the bugship and of course. To confront the Justice League in order to receive answers, which they refused to give.
So you can well understand the sea of tears they all were when one night a tired, wounded and trembling Jaime landed in their backyard, but they didn't count that later on there will be an event of changes that will hit Jai both physically and emotionally.
You will see. The strong emotions of panic and trauma caused an unexpected reaction in the Khaji Da code where Jai's DNA would mix and this mixture would cause Jaime's body to go through certain very notable changes for him and his family and not only his body. What would happen if not the same armor would go through many changes in the future. In this part I was inspired by the symptoms of the werewolf when he is going through the first symptoms of transformation. That's why this Au's name is Werebeetle. (I already have some diagrams made of these physical changes and their explanations. So bear with me).
If you came here, I thank you for your attention and support!

Not sure if I have properly introduced my oc. But here goes.
His code name is Raider.
Official name: Berto Melanosa.
Raider has the power to create weapons and has the ability to heal wounds with his blood. He was one of the 15 children experimented for a bio weapon project by Talon scientists. He never experienced emotions after being put through tests and painful procedures on his wrists during his time in Talon (Therefore, not a wonderful childhood for him). He escaped from the clutches of Talon around the age of 12 by an ally (who is also part of the bio weapon project). After surviving 4 years alone in the forests of Costa Rica, Raider is later found in a forest near Ecopoint: Osa. At the age of 16, Berto is later recruited into Blackwatch by Blackwatch Commander Gabriel Reyes.

Fic: "The Long Road Ahead (is a little easier with you)" (Roberto da Costa/Sam Guthrie/Illyana Rasputin, T)

Illyana sets him straight. -Or- “Are you sure this isn't... weird?” Sam asks, his voice barely above a whisper. “We are fugitives, we are killers,” Illyana dismisses, “And we are mutants. They already have plenty of reasons to hate us, we might as well enjoy ourselves in the meantime."
Read on AO3
Dr. Reyes always said the nearest town was twenty miles away.
---
As it turned out, twenty miles was generous, overly generous.
Still, Sam is grateful to be outside the Dome again.
Truly, he is.
Freedom from their cage means everything, a gift he wasn’t certain he would ever have again, but freedom is tiring. Very tiring. Arguably more tiresome than working in a mine, Sam reckons, work boots dragging along the gravely road.
Adrenaline and a sense of victory had taken the group well into the afternoon, but as the sun began to set, Sam had to remind his legs how to put one foot in front of the other with each and every step. It was almost like praying in a way-- repetitive, single minded, simplistic. Sam isn’t religious like Rahne, but he’s been to enough Sunday services growing up that he can appreciate the notion. Praying for another step forward, for another step away from the cage the Essex Corporation had held them, another step toward civilization– toward a real second chance.
The group makes camp reluctantly once the majority of them can no longer see where they are going. Exhaustion grinds them to a halt, but an intangible sense of dread keeps all of them on edge. It’s as though something sinister is tickling them in the back of their thoughts, forcing them to press on to the very edges of their limits, for fear that what they left behind might be coming back for them.
Kicking loose the rocks and fallen brush near the campfire, Sam tumbles to the ground, unable to think of taking even one more step.
Sleep comes easy for him, but it doesn’t last long.
Cold seeps up from the ground and a damp chill settles over the top of him, bringing Sam back to the waking world shivering and shaking.
Jerking upright, Sam hugs himself, fingers digging into his hoodie. Everything is cold, is dark. It feels… It feels almost like being underground again. His chest clenches, instinctive fear wrapping around his lungs, choking him. Sam tries to take in new air, to show his body he is outside– safe, but the breath comes in staggered and shallow and his lungs expel it just as fast as it hits the inside of his chest.
Wheezing, Sam’s gaze darts desperately around the pitch black, searching for any sign of his surroundings. Looking for some small reassurance for his mind that he isn’t back in the mines– isn’t stuck in those pits.
‘I ain’t down there,’ his thoughts race, rushing through his mind like derby cars, bumping and crashing against his fears and worries.
This isn’t like when he’d seen his father in the laundry dryer door in the Dome, it isn’t Dani. He could tell it isn’t real, or at least, he’s trying to convince his pounding heart it isn’t. This is his mind running away from him and he can’t seem to get a hold of it.
‘I’m safe’, Sam pleads to his panic, He is in the woods with Rahne and Dani and Berto and—
“Ey- Kentucky,” Smoothe Russian vocals break through the darkness, piercing through the cold and the panic, “Come here.”
It washes over Sam like a prayer answered.
Sam stutters, a polite refusal dying in his throat before it can reach his mouth. He can’t refuse such a sweet calling. Bunching his spare jacket into one hand, Sam crawls his way across the dark campsite, ignoring the pain of pebbles pressing against his knees, rolling underneath him as he shuffles along.
Illyena’s eyes aren’t glowing their shocking blue like when she’s using her magic, but he can feel her piercing stare in front of him nonetheless.
“You’re cold,” She remarks, seemingly irritated (though it’s hard to know with her inflection sometimes), “You should have slept with us from the start.”
“Well I--” Sam starts and stops, “I-”
Berto and Illy had walked so close to each other throughout the day, hushed and excited whispers flying between the two of them like sparks. It had felt private, personal. Sam hadn’t known what to do with the subtle shift in his friends. It wasn’t the same as it was with Dani and Rahne, but it was still definitely intimate. He didn’t mind the girls’ lingering touches and close steps, but with Berto and Illy he couldn’t help feeling oddly left out. Pushing away the odd gnawing feeling inside his chest, Sam had respectfully put a decent distance between them. He didn’t quite understand it, but staying too close had felt like an intrusion.
It hurt that neither of them, Illy or Berto, seemed to notice his absence throughout the day.
The exhaustion had helped Sam keep the gnawing feeling at bay, voiding his mind of nearly all thoughts for most of the walk.
When the group had made camp, Rahne and Dani had taken one side of the clearing and Illy and Berto, the other. And Sam… He’d made himself his own space. They hadn’t discussed it, it simply was the way the pieces fell. Like before, he tried not to question why it hurt.
So now, faced with Illy’s blunt and direct observation, Sam’s mouth is left agape like a fish, an intangible answer swirling thick around his tongue. He doesn’t know how to express this feeling to her in a way that makes a lick of sense when he doesn’t even understand it himself.
“Come here,” Illyena repeats, her slight hand appearing from the dark, fingers entangling themselves with his own. She gives a gentle tug and Sam tumbles forward, knees weak with weariness and a simple longing to feel connected again.
It’s clear there is something between Illy and Berto going on, something more than friendship– Berto’s never been exactly subtle– Sam doesn’t think he’s hurt by that, he’s happy to see his friends so giddy, but he has been feeling left out; lonely.
Falling beside them now is easy, his distance from the day worn away by Illy’s quiet, but stern direction.
Beneath him, Sam feels Berto’s chest rising and falling softly. He is warm and it takes everything in Sam not to lean into that warmth, to press himself against it with the full force of his being. Even just this small bit of contact melting the cold feeling from his bones.
“Are you sure this isn't... weird?” Sam asks, his voice barely above a whisper.
“We are fugitives, we are killers,” Illyana dismisses, “And we are mutants. They already have plenty of reasons to hate us, we might as well enjoy ourselves in the meantime. And freezing to death after such a heroic escape would be unbecoming.”
Without hesitation, Illy presses herself into his chest and pushes him fully into Berto’s arms where she had previously been sleeping. Sam grunts at the decisive movement and stills rapidly as Berto stirs to life.
“..Kentucky?” He murmurs in a confused but warmed tone, “About time you came over here. What were you planning to do all night, freeze?”
“I… Didn’t want to intrude.”
Berto snorts, half awake, and wraps his arms around Sam’s waist, “We want you here Kentucky. With us.”
“I- You do?” Sam stutters.
“Of course. Rahne and Dani have each other, and we have us.” Illyana plainly as she arranges herself into Sam’s side perfectly, “We set the rules here.”
Sleep comes easy to Sam wrapped between Illyana and Berto, but this time, it lasts. It lasts for a very long time.

How to fix THE NEW MUTANTS movie
With a few tweaks, I could have made this movie great! (And yes, I say this with the benefit of hindsight and as someone with absolutely no film experience.)
First, well get the obvious out of the way...
Properly cast the characters of color
Obvious, right? The fact that they cast an actual Brazilian actor instead of a Mexican man already puts this version higher up than DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, but not by much. Both Berto and Dr. Reyes are black, and the fact that they cast white characters is abhorrent.
The entire cast should have been redone if you ask me.
Moving on...
This movie could have (and should have) been at least half an hour to forty minutes longer, giving us more time to connect with the other kids and to flesh them out a bit more (particularly Sam and Berto).
Really lean into the horror aspect of it (personal opinion)
Get rid of Illyana - I know people really liked her (with some saying she "saved" the movie), but I felt like her character dragged the movie down, with them trying to have her share the spotlight. Instead, her spot should have been taken in the story by Karma and her twin brother.
Now, character by character...
1: Dani Moonstar - I actually liked her story for the most part, with a few exceptions. They should have kept the Demon Bear as the malevolent mystical being it was in the comics, with it just using Dani's powers to manifest in reality, rather than it being just a physical manifestation of Dani's fear.
I'm torn on her relationship with Rahne in the movie, because on the one hand, "yay, lesbians!", but in the other hand, Karma is right there and I feel it takes away from her. It's weird, because Dani and Rahne's friendship in the comics is pretty intense, but also Rahne is kind of homophobic in the comics. I could see Dani making a move on her and Rahne freaking out, getting aggressive.
I also wouldn't mind Dani and Karma getting together. Give that kiss scene in the rain to them instead, maybe after Rahne rejects Dani?
I don't have any actresses in mind for her, but casting someone more stereotypically native would have probably been for the best. And I'm picturing either Wes Studi or Graham Greene as her grandfather.
2. Xuyen Kieu Manh - (known in the comics as Xi'an Coy Manh, which is not an actual Vietnamese name, so I'm using the name that some fans gave her that's more accurate). Like many fans, I was very upset that they cut her from the story, given that not only was she on the original team of New Mutants, but that she was their leader! She should have had a role in this movie. It would have been nice to have her be maybe a little shy and reserved, bullied by her brother maybe, and then her rising to the occasion and taking charge, leading them on to their escape from the facility.
And if we include Karma, we have to include Tran, her twin brother, as he could take on Illyana's bully role from the movie. All culminating in him being an antagonist in the end and Karma cutting ties with him. He's someone who would actually succeed in the follow-up program (like in LOGAN).
Additionally, the Smiley Men from the movie could have been something similar but different, like the nightmare versions of the men (maybe Yakuza?) that used the twins for their powers.
Kelly Marie Tran would have made a perfect Karma.
3. Rahne Sinclair - I liked that they leaned into the Catholic side of her story and how she escaped her home after her mutation emerged. But, I also probably would have played up a more feral aspect to her. Maybe she survived on her own as a wolf for a while before she was found, and so she's a bit more wild than the reserved version we had.
It's not that I didn't like Maisie Williams, but I've always pictured Rose Leslie in that role, ever since I saw her in Game of Thrones.
4. Sam Guthrie - the only thing I would have changed about Sam's story in this movie was maybe give more backstory about his time in the mines and maybe include his siblings. I also would have added more scenes of Sam and Berto, but that's just me (and I'll explain further under Berto...)
Jeremy Sumpter would have made a great Sam. He grew up in Kentucky and everything.
5. Roberto Da Costa - I know that some people were upset with what they did with Berto's powers, making them fire-based and such (not as badly as DoFP, because that was just Sunfire), but I personally didn't mind it. It gave an aesthetic to his otherwise common superpower of super strength. I know he absorbs solar energy, but maybe when he's suffering from overwhelming emotions, some of that energy needs a way to escape, so he "catches fire"
That being said, they should have kept his origin story more akin to the comics, where his power was activated because he was the victim of racism. Maybe in the pool, he's "attacked" by several "demons", the men that he killed (accidentally?) when his power activated. Personally, I just like the fiery aesthetic.
Speaking of the pool, since I cut Illyana from this story, have the "person" that lures him in when they're all separated be Sam. This is just me, but I feel we could have played up that Berto has "the hots" for Sam, and not just in a deleted scene. Like, yeah, it turns out to be an illusion, but it would have been nice to confirm that Berto is into Sam, before everything goes to hell.
Someone suggested Diogo Sales as Berto back when this movie was announced, and now I can't unsee it.
6. Dr. Cecilia Reyes - I'm still so mad they made her a villain in this story! I'm all for her working for the Essex Corporation, but have it so that she doesn't know how horrible her "superior" is. She doesn't know what they're really doing, she's just there to help young mutants. To have her fill that villainous role, have Tran be the one who uses his possession power to take control of her for those moments, like when she tried to kill Dani. Maybe that was Tran instead of an order from the Essex Corporation.
Rosario Dawson or Gina Torres would gave been perfect for this role!
And now I'm going to add a character that could have been used to round out and balance the cast.
7. Jamie Madrox - it bugged me that there was that whole big facility with multiple "patients" and the only faculty member was Dr. Reyes? Enter Jamie Madrox, who could fill out the rest of the staff entirely by himself. He could be the orderlies and the grounds keeper and the maintenance staff and the kitchen staff - everybody! He could have filled all those roles, and during the big fight at the end, we could have had Karma use her powers to take control a few of his dupes to help fend off the Demon Bear.
And then, after the whole situation is over and our merry band of teenage mutants leave the ruins of the facility, for the post-credit scene, we'll have a helicopter land, with a man stepping out and talking to whoever is supervising the people searching through the rubble (maybe John Greycrow or Ruckus?) They explain that Dr. Reyes was dead and that the subjects escaped. The man asks about their other subject in the facility, and they tell him it's intact and being moved to a more secure location. Then, under the rubble, Tran is found to still be alive, and the man introduces himself as Dr. Nathaniel Essex.
Dun dun duh!
And then we could continue with the trilogy that was intended, with the second one being subtitled INVASION, taking place in Brazil and delving more into Berto, with the main antagonist being the Brood, while also introducing Doug Ramsey and Warlock.
Another post credit scene with Dr. Essex explaining that the subject has escaped but he'd not worried, because he has a backup.
And then the third film, INFERNO, deals with that escaped subject, Illyana Rasputina, and how she joins up with the New Mutants and they stop Dr. Essex as he uses a clone of her, Darkchilde to open a portal to Limbo that would unleash hell on Earth.
Hire me, Disney, and I'll fix your movies for you!

top 5 crimes against fictional brazilians that gringos have committed
i could fill this list alone with the crimes jk r*wling has committed against me personally. but i'll round them up
1. everything the terf cunt did
1.1. all the quidditch players in the brazilian team have spanish names, except a guy called josé da silva or some shit.
1.2. named a magic school in brazil 'castelobruxo' even though if you spoke with a single brazilian person for five minutes they'd tell you the name would probably be something from our native brazilian language (tupi-guarani), or something from one of our many colonizers (probably dutch or german).
1.3. decided that there was a single school for all of brazil (just a reminder that the entirety of england is smaller than the state where i live)
1.4. decided that said single school was for ALL of latinamerica. you know. all those countries that definitely do not speak the same language as brazil, and weren't colonized by us the same way england colonized its neighboring countries and forced their language upon them.
1.5. ruined my love for her stupid fantasy series by being a racist antisemitic terf
2. boberto da costa.
2.1. first his name used to be "daCosta" which is weird bc nobody is called that.
2.2. "berto" isn't really a nickname for roberto here. i mean, it is, in the same way that "bert" is a nickname for "robert". but it's just not used. beto would be the most logical nickname
2.3. cast a brown mexican actor to play my man in that flop days of future past movie just to keep killing him/using him as a punching bag, and then when the timeline was restored, he was nowhere to be found (just like all other poc in the movie)
2.4. decided to cast a brazilian man for the other flop new mutants, but chose a white man for the role. not even a brown man. straight up a white man. even though roberto has always been depicted as being black (same thing happened with cecelia reyes in the same movie. but her actress still claims to be black/mixed, since her grandfather was black. even though she is also very lightskinned)
3. loba andrade is brazilian! even though her father speaks european portuguese, her mother has an european portuguese name, and she speaks....spanish for some reason. but she is a vixen, so of course she is brazilian! they couldn't even make her properly dark-skinned
4. raze from valorant is brazilian, from bahia (the state with the highest concentration of black people in the country if i remember correctly). no, her voice actress isn't brazilian (it's sombra from overwatch). no, she doesn't pronounce the words right. no, the character isn't black, either.
5. lucio is a black man from brazilian, but he plays hockey (????????). his VA is also not a black man. also not brazilian. you can tell
6. honorary mention to the writers of carmen sandiego (the netflix tv show) who, in the episode set in brazil, told their audience they should visit the favelas when they visit rio de janeiro. yay for causing an international accident!

[image: a comic page from blue beetle #9 that takes place in the reyes' family living room. bianca and alberto reyes are sitting on a couch. jaime reyes and paco are standing in the hall. jaime rubs his head a bit nervously and asks "... do you mind if paco and I go out?" Alberto says "Where? the mall? Catch a movie?" Jaime says "Actually, there's a bit fire on the highway 375 loop and I was going to help." Berto leans forward and says "huh. this is..." bianca supplies "new". berto continues "...uhhh. can the armor handle it?" Jaime says "yes." berto looks at bianca while she talks to jaime. she says "no fighting monsters," and jaime says "nope." Bianca asks "homework done?" and Jaime says "yes, ma'am?" Berto says "Go, be careful, and let's say, when it's a natural disaster, not school hours, you can just go." Bianca adds "but if you're going to be late, call." Jaime says "thanks dad. okay mom." next panel shows jaime leaving the house, powering up his blue beetle armor, and his mom saying "and no monster fighting unless they start it." Jaime says "okay mom!" The final panel is in the living room with jaime's parents alone. berto puts an arm around bianca. bianca says "This was not in the manual" and berto says "there was a manual?" end image]

Further thoughts on The New Mutants
During a second viewing, I noticed something that caught my attention. The subject numbers for all five kids are visible on screen at one point or another, we can assume that’s the order they got to the facility.
Illyana is 199. She’s been there the longest, which is probably part of why she is so flippant and abrasive with Reyes. She’s like a life prisoner, doesn’t see a way out of the cage and takes her stress out on the warden and whoever is the newbie at the time. She was probably just as nasty to each of the others when they first arrived as she was to Dani, probably stopping when someone else arrived or the target pushed back.
Rahne is 200. Which explains her comment about Dani getting out before “the rest of us cuckoos.” She has been there long enough to feel trapped and maybe a little hopeless, but she wasn’t the sort to act out like ‘Yana. She was probably the sort of quiet that inattentive or uncaring authority figures consider ‘good kids’ and never consider what is lurking under the surface. In Rahne’s case that was probably a whole storm of uncertainty about her faith and her sexuality, eased by her excursions into the vents.
Sam is 201. He has been there long enough to figure out a routine to practise his blasting and to keep injuring himself, and to get a reputation as ‘one of the good ones’. Assuming the parts of his backstory that were not told are similar to the comics, that’s probably because he’s an eldest sibling and had to grow up fast.
Berto is 202. The new kid before Dani arrived, perhaps still quite new when Dani arrives. That would explain why he was able to throw away clothes as easily as he did, he still had a lot from what was sent with him.
I kind of ran out of thoughts on the guys. They were less fleshed out in the film than Dani, ‘Yana and Rahne and I kind of ran out of inferences to make.
A couple of idle thoughts. Maybe there’s a fic in here?
What did Illyana call the others? The only nickname used is Illyana and ‘Berto calling Rahne ‘doggy’. People making dog jokes about Rahne are a frequent trope in comics (especially PAD’s X-Factor runs), but I suspect this one came from Illyana, and was originally a lot less polite.
Were there other inmates there at the same time as some of the kids? There were obviously prior inmates at the facility who probably ended up in Transigen or under one of the numbered gravestones by the chapel. Were any of them there when Illyana was brought to the facility? Maybe a girl from Deerfield, IL that ‘Yana bonded with but something happened to?

Trama
Inside every person there are two bears, forever locked in combat for your soul. One bear is all things good, compassion, love, trust. The other is all things evil, fear, shame, and self-destruction.
La storia parla, infatti, anche di come affrontare le proprie paure, che sono una cosa naturale averne, e di come, a volte, la paura possa diventare un punto di forza da sfruttare nei momenti più difficili.
