This Week in BL - Bunch of Stuff Coming in August

July 2023 Wk 5

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying most.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Laws of Attraction (Sat iQIYI) 2-3 of 8 - Oh good, we now know that Thailand has the same statutory rape laws as the US. Dub con is as dub con does. MEANWHILE Oh my God I love evil lawyer cutie so much. Him and his beautiful weaponized smile, maybe my new favorite character. I like the way this director is playing with noir mystery tropes, settings, and archetypes too - it’s feeling very 60s pulp, I’m getting gay Travis McGee vibes. Grandma knowing that her grandson likes boys is so sweet. I have to be completely frank here, this is what I wanted from both Manner of Death and KP. I truly love this show

Hidden Agenda that isn’t hidden (Sun GMMTV YouTube) ep 3 of 10 - It’s a very Cyrano de Bergerac kind of narrative... If Cyrano fell in love with Christian instead of Roxanne. Mock date was fun.

Low Frequency (Sat iQIYI) ep 4 of 8 - Into the lion’s den. Investigation begins. Why isn’t the ghost acting lookout? Who are these random side characters? I’m confused. Half way through kiss is right on schedule tho.

Wedding Plan (Weds YT & iQIYI) ep 2 of 7 - The kiss was nice, but it’d be nicer if Nuea had punched Lom. Manipulative arse. A trash watch is happening!

Be Mine Super Star (Mon Viki) ep 4 of 12 - Meh.

Dinosaur Love (Sun iQIYI) ep 5 of 8 eps - The hazing has begun + secret relationship and it’s kinda like a v soft SOTUS. Dino is getting a bit too controlling and obsessive for me so it slid down the ranks. I much prefer La Cusine’s version of this dynamic. The friends protecting Dino’s interests were funny tho - boy is so obsessed he outsources his stalking.

Be My Favorite (Fri YouTube) ep 10 of 12 - Max is BEST BOY. I hate Kawi. Tra la la. Trash watch here.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Jun & Jun (Korea Thurs Viki) 2 of 8 - Our ex idol is a total FLIRT. Nice to see an uke with agency. I mean baby girl is a newbie worker bee… but still flirty, good for you, sweetie. I see your little lip bite and so does your soon to be husband. Speaking of, I love Choi Jun’s style of seme aggression: a little sleezy + a bit too handsy + ultra clever with his words. Plus tie tug!!! Also threatening to take off your TAILORED suit so baby wears your shirt and smells like you? HOT. Boy you sped right past American style and into Italian - that’s real Corinthian leather, that is.

Stay By My Side (Taiwan Fri Gaga) 5 of 10 eps - Mid series kiss right on schedule. Thank you for never upsetting me, Taiwan. Omg. Such boyfriends. Only Taiwan gets this sappy. I have to say, I watch this show after Tokyo on purpose. (I need the pallet cleanser.) Still, I’m scared that the perception will be that Bu Xia is using Jiang Chi, not in love with him, when the truth about ghosts comes out. Why doesn’t BX’s useless sister do something for her disaster brother? I guess JC likes a needy boy? Oh no, the kiss confusion. Lip touch but rejection (?). Nooooo. I suppose they have to draw this out for 10 eps. Gah, they’re so cute. But BX is a bit dim, isn’t he? Poor thing.

Minato's Laundromat Season 2 AKA Minato Shouji Coin Laundry Season 2 (Japan Thu Gaga) 4 of 12 eps - Shin is such a worrywart, over protective, over the top boyfriend. I guess we saw a little bit of give from Minato? More than usual, baby steps. This is Japan after all.

Tokyo in April is... AKA Shigatsu no Tokyo wa (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 7 of 8 - Japan’s favorite trope = the running of the gays. Kazama knows everything now. Ep ends on one of my few triggers. SKIP! Japan you better NOT go there.

Vian the series (Vietnam YouTube ) ep 11-12fin - terrible ending, he turned back into a cat and the whole thing was pointless. I am very annoyed. 4/10 FATALLY FLAWED

Stay (Pinoy YouTube) finished its run at 7 eps. It’s mostly English & set in LA (shudder) so I did not bother. I say little to no chatter about this (that’s normal with the Pinoy stuff tho). Did anyone watch and enjoy?

8/1 Stay Still (Hong Kong Tues YouTube) 5 eps - Yes we have had BL from Hong Kong before, but that was... before... who knows what it’ll be like now. Hayden, moves into a new apartment and starts a complicated relationship with his neighbor’s grandson, Damien, after an unexpected kiss. Meanwhile: Archie rekindles a romance with his high school sweetheart, Kelvin, who is now married.

8/11 Love Class Season 2 (Korea Fri Viki) 10 eps - Hyun, Minwoo and Joo-Hyuk are looking forward to their freshman year at college. But trials and tribulations of love that await them outside the classroom: from learning about maturity to being unable to forget the scars of past lovers. (All new cast from season 1.)

8/12 My Personal Weatherman AKA Taikan Yoho (Japan Sat ????) 8 eps - hum.

8/19 Love in Translation (Thai Sat One31) ? eps - Two strangers start working in a cafe together.

8/20 My Universe series begins (Thai Sun iQIYI) 24 episodes - This is sampler pack BL, 12 pairs, each pair gets 2 episodes, not entirely sure on the order they’ll drop in. Known couples include EarthBank from Destiny Seeker and KaownahTurbo from Love Stage!!!, mostly fresh faces otherwise. Jane to direct several.

8/22 Kisseki: Dear to Me formerly known as Miracle (Taiwan Tues ????) 13 eps - From screenwriter Lin Pei Yu (We Best Love, H3: Trapped) features a student doctor forced to take care of a gangster. I love the premise and like the writer, I’m thinking Viki or Gaga will get this one.

8/24 Man Suang (Thailand movie domestic cinemas) - historical drama about Thai burlesque with KP’s MileApo. Tong is in this one too?

8/? Sing My Crush previously Follow The Wind (Korea ????) 8 eps - supposed to have released in the first half of 2022 this is a adaption of Myung’s webtoon, from the director of My Sweet Dear, and the Love Tractor production house, looks like Korea does About Youth.

8/? Why R U? (Korean remake) is supposed to be out this month, filming started in sept 22. I find everything about this hilarious. I mean if Korea remakes it, we lose all the sexy and then... would we have a story at all? No we would not. Not even for six short eps. It’d be like one of those mesh shopping bags.

We can probably expect a new BL from GMMTV too, to slot into BMF’s spot mid month.

Person Who Has Never Watched the Reboot Decides to Liveblog Alien-X-Tinction

First scene and I already hate Max's voice. #NotMyGrandpa

idk what alternate universe this is yet, but I like 1) that Ben is sad :), and 2) that his Omnitrix looks like that??? It really sells the idea of a prototype 🥺

"resistance will only beget pain" — villain who is smart enough to know that Ben doesn't know what "beget" means

"you always try to interrupt" okay, ouch, I actually love that angst (I already know who the Alien X is and what he's been doing to alternate Bens (I'm only watching this because the Wiki page for the special was interesting to me), so this is lovely :3) Max always tries to save his grandson and he never succeeds </3

Side note: evil Celestialsapien is a cool idea, and I like that this one is taking a "hands on" approach. It's about the thrill of the hunt :) And loving making people suffer

"oh, no, not again" LMAO, the dimension-hopping Max sounds soooo mildly inconvenienced

"you'd think I'd be used to it all by now" coming from a man who lost his grandkids and tortures himself by watching it happen again and again in other timelines hurts so good 😭 😭 I also love that they let Max cry about it. It's a small thing and it only lasts a second, but in the Classic continuity, Ben only cried on screen TWICE, both when he was 10. Letting an aged man hurt like this without making a joke about it is good to see <3

Back in the Real Timeline, I guess, lmao. I love that Gwen is tied up and just looks so bored with the whole affair

Hm. I kinda like this angle with Ben's frustration. He feels like he's not living up to his full potential as a hero because he always has Gwen and Max helping him. It's different from when Ben would get cocky in the OG, and I think it's an interesting point, too :p This blatantly isn't about being a hero, it's about the thrill, which is something that ten-year-old Ben consistently struggled with

Still hate reboot Heatblast, but whatever

I definitely don't like how the fights are animated? It feels... slow. And I get part of that is to build up suspense/show of Alien X's abilities, since this show is aimed at a younger audience who wouldn't be familiar with the Classic continuity, but still :/ I don't like the flat camera angles and the hits don't have a lot of weight to them

Love that Alien X is killing off Ben's, though — something Eon was always too pussy to do

I hate this art style, but I appreciate that the writers are trying

I love villains who are obsessed with Ben Killing him, hunting him down, whatever. Watching villains shove aside whatever or whoever gets in their way to pursue Ben with single-minded fervor always hits good.

This fight between Ben and Alien X, up until he loses the Omnitrix, is probably my favorite fight in the special. Alien X was at his coolest and Ben really gave it his all, no matter how badly he got beat in return.

LMAO, Maximillian calling Ben a stubborn brat <3 AF Ben looking away in embarrassment because he knows it's true (he literally JUST tried to walk off and go it alone for?? no reason, literally), I love them. They're a family in every dimension

I think it's cute that Gwen already likes teenage Ben <3

I love that Gwen 10 goes, "And, yes, we're [Gwens are] better" and then fucking picks Ripjaws for a fight in a rocky desert, sfbrygbrku. She's such a dumbass I do love her Ripjaws design, tho!! Love that they avoided the Omniverse problem of making the female aliens excessively feminized. ALSO OG HEATBLAST, MY LOVE

AHAHA, OG Ben immediately assuming that this Gwen is also a magic user, pfft. Even in a dimension where they don't get along as well, he's got so much faith in his cousin <3

Jeez, that tragic backstory was pretty fucking brutal. Vilgax straight-up just vaporized Gwen and Max. I love the idea of an evil Ben who's lost everything, though. His Max and Gwen are dead, what more can they take away from him? Eon could never

LMAO, MAX JUST FORCIBLY ADOPTING EVIL BEN AT THE END. Ben is so unenthused, he's gonna get loved whether he wants to or not!!

Okay, just finished it. Final thoughts? It was really cute. Is it good enough to get me to watch the rest of the reboot? No. It's definitely not as hype as some of UAF/OV's high points, probably in part because I still can't get into the art style and also because the fight scenes just aren't as good.

It had pretty good pacing! I was surprised by that, I thought 45 minutes was gonna be too short, but it ended up feeling right. (Also, I'm upset to say that Max's voice grew on me. Gwen is on thin ice.)

You can tell that this was made with a lot of love, both for the characters and for Ben 10 as a whole. It really does feel like a love letter to the fandom, and for that, it was a good watch :)

Final score: 7/10, not NEARLY as bad as I was expecting, worth a rewatch <3

not really a headcanon but i'm Suspicious about Sullivan's claim that he was summoned by Iruma's parents. since border security know humans exist and that humans can summon demons, surely there it isn't illegal to be summoned. after all, it's not your fault someone decided to summon you. so why didn't Sullivan just tell Henri he was summoned when he was being questioned about illegally entering the human realm? i think doing that would have actually taken suspicion away from Iruma - he could be explained away as a sickly child Sullivan kept secret to protect him until he was cured by eating a human acquired as part of the bargain made when Sullivan was summoned.

maybe Sullivan *did* enter the human realm illegally - to plant the book Iruma's parents used to summon him! but then the question is did he pick Iruma's parents deliberately? or was it random? maybe it was somewhat random, as in he picked the first set of terrible parents he could find. but if it wasn't random... why Iruma in particular?

I mean he's not even trying to cover up anything. He's a spouseless, childless demon who somehow has a grandson. Said grandson knows absolutely nothing about the demon world, does not have any demonic features, and is just so different. Like sure the first thing that comes to anyone wont be that he's a human, the only reason ameri even guessed it right is because she has manga that have human physique, but what the fuck is iruma? No wings, no horns, no tail, very small canines, weird ears, comes up with the weirdest words and he's just so trusting?? Of people??? And how's he so naive and trusting when he acted so afraid and timid at the start of the year?? He's a ball of weirdness and contradictions and no one questions that?? No one points at him like that's not a demon?? They just accept that he's different in every sense of the world and move on

And sullivan is wierd. He severely under-prepared iruma, did not come up with any story as to how iruma came into existence, why exactly he's sullivan's grandson and not a just son, did not even try cooperating with henri or even bribing or threatening him, he is literally one of the great three. If baal can build a castle near the beloved river of delkira, then sulli could've ended the interrogation before he set foot in the interrogation room, and by how much he kept talking and advertising iruma around at the start of the comic, how much he neglected to prepare him for anything, it's almost like he wanted iruma to be found out!

But notice how he's been kinda tamed recently? How his love stopped feeling exaggerated? He's still sulli but recently his love and care started to feel real? How he started really hanging out with iruma and let iruma talk to him and teach him magic? How he's really trying to be their for iruma as a parental figure?

Something happened. He was plotting a role for iruma, maybe still plotting, but something in sullivan changed. He was not afraid for iruma's safety at the Batora party as much as he was at the heartbreaker event

Or maybe it's all in my head. Maybe he's always been this caring and i misread some things. Maybe Nishi decided to focus on thier relationship more. I'm just saying, why is sullivan so sus?

Four/Seamtress

I make you guess to which I took the seamstress inspiration

Four and Seamstress met when they were children. Seamstress' family travels around the land and sells their fabrics, outfits and products.

Edited: Four and Seamstress before the Minish Cap event.

Four went to relax in the field after he helped his grandpa at the work, not bothering to change his torned clothes.

Seamstress saw him decided to help him.

During this, she found that he is the grandson of a blacksmith while Four got to see Seamstress' parents works (from clothes to jewelry).

There on forth, Seamstress always looked after the boy with green tunic whenever they visit Hyrule Town.

During the FourSword Adventure, Seamstress got targeted by Shadow because she's close to Four (to which I won't go in details now because I'm going to write a fanfic of it)

one of my favourite. why? because I'm into elf/gnome trope, except seamstress is not a gnome but she's taller than Four and I adore the idea of them being lovey-dovey. Four not minding to be lifted up by Seamstress and Seamstress sitting to lean on Four whenever she's tired.

Wholesome, loud, very supportive of each other. Seamstress loves watching Four smithing (helps him when she can). And also want to impress him with her works like little plushies that kinda reminds of Four the picori.

Warrior/Inventor

I got inspired by the sheika from botw!

Also one of my favourite but for different reason.

Inventor is a son of biiiiscuit— you gonna hate him. He boast and is cocky. Arrogant mf and only love his inventions.

Warrior wonders why Cia didn't targeted this dude yet

Inventor have many projects but sadly is more ahead of time so, much to his dismay, he gotta step back a bit so the things he invents can be properly used—

He is actually passionate about his work and tends to overwork himself.

I can't write much about Inventor since he still in w.i.p. but kinda have some scenarios about him and Warrior

I kinda imagine their trope to be idiot rivals to idiot friend to idiots who won't admit they now fallen for each other and historians will say they were good friends(TM)

Wind &Explorer

Platonic Childhood Friends!

I got inspired by Mido but this one is less mean lol

I like the idea of them going in adventures and playing around their island

Explorer is the one who mostly leads Wind back then but Wind comes up with the crazy idea they do!

Is also protective of Aryll!

Explorer, Wind and Aryll stargaze together and Explorer likes to keep books and charts about the sea and sky.

Explorer never got interested at the old folks story about the bero ("Let that ancient dude's soul rest in peace, for Goddesses' sake!" —Explorer, probably).

Maybe he do a little but lil' lad just want to explore the sea

But it's real business when Wind turns out to be that hero and was devastated. Not because it's true or envy. But because his friend is departing. Aryll got taken and the idea of his friends leaving and never to return again filled made him sorrow.

Still have faith in him tho and yelled at the ocean, sky and horizon to be kind to Wind or he gonna fight them—

Wind cheered him up by promising once he returns they gonna explore the sea together and teach him the ropes like once Explorer did to him

They spit swear!

Other ships that I have but don't have much yet

Twilight/Witch || Witch lives in the forest doing her daily witchy stuffs. Kinda imagine their dynamic to be shaky at first. Once they get to know each other, Witchy and Twilight would be a bit flirty to mess up each. At least try to. Because later they would just go with casual talk, wholesome and domestic dynamic. If one is at the home of another, they look like have lived together for years! Very lax and gremlincore aesthetic pair.

Wild/Historian || I've read somewhere that Wild is around 4"11 so I made Historian 4"6 lol. Came from family of historian who worked for the royal family. Historian is a bit shy but he looks up upon the champions, especially Wild. Pending whether to make Historian live in the past or present 💀

Legend/Bard || Their trope is that "Person A hates Person B's guts so they annoy B. But Person B thinks of Person A as a friend anyway". Don't have much yet but Bard came from a family of historian too who worked in the castle but preferred to travel the world. At time they visit Hyrule Castle, they and Fable have a cup of tea and tells story. May have invited Legend from time to time but some of them got turned down. Anyway, Legend and Bard have mutual respect to each other and has been on travel together when they bump to each other! They are very fluffy-angsty genre.

Hyrule/??? || I adore this dude but I can't help but to be totally unsure since I don't know a lot about him or his game. I'm doing more research

I don't have any for Sky and Time but if I have any it would be a platonic one ^^). For Sky, I was thinking about a mysterious person who resides in the land and raised by the kikwi dhsjdhqks

And for Time, a gerudo. He, Malon and the gerudo are a trio and have a platonic dynamic. Gerudo would protect this two with her life 😤😤

In light of looking at the warrior cats forums recently and seeing a lot of talk about which cats would win in fights based on their canon performances, I want to ask about... fighting skills in your rewrite. I feel like canon makes ThunderClan cats overpowered with them winning all of their battles, and I already know you have made some changes to at least one cat's level of fighting skills, with Deadfoot getting a buff with his leg gauntlet and now being on the same level as Leopardfur. So, who do you plan to be the strongest and weakest fighters? I would love if you included some more minor characters in Clans other than ThunderClan in "strongest fighters" here.

An opportunity to explain which of my Littlest Petshop figurines has the strongest smash abilities? Don't mind if I dooo

Absolutely don't worry about ThunderClan hogging all the strongest fighters, I disagree heavily with the general fandom consensus that TC is The Fighting Clan. It's a BATTLE CULTURE. They ALL fight. They all have to fight THUNDERCLAN too at points, it's not like TC is the sleeping giant of the forest you know?

General Ability

While I haven't made "stat charts" yet (though i am only one bored afternoon away from making one), I try to imagine my major characters (and plenty of supporting ones) as having specific strengths and weaknesses

Brief list of some of the "stats" I've considered

Battle Skill = NOT raw strength; how good they are at fighting period.

Hunting (General) = Overall ability to find food in all situations

Hunting (Specific) = RiverClan's canonical 'white water fishers' or Bonefall Tallpoppy's frog hunting talent

Diplomacy = Conflict deescalation skills and persuasion

Craftiness = Problem-solving skills and dexterity

One of the reasons my Clan Culture series has slowly started to bleed into the Bonefall Rewrite is exactly because "craftiness" makes a really good 'stat' when the imagined 'mass' of a given Clan starts to become too generic fighter/hunter heavy.

But a Deputy is chosen exactly because they excel in as many skills as possible. So you can safely assume that any time you are dealing with a deputy, you are getting ready for a miniboss fight.

Exceptions to the rule being, of course, when the deputy has been chosen for reasons unrelated to their actual skill. Onewhisker was an unfortunate example; nepotism picks also happen.

Some Amazing Fighters In No Particular Order

When I pick cats who are GREAT fighters I try to avoid just picking large, muscular cats like canon does. Sorreltail is HUGE like her dad Whitestorm, but she really doesn't have the same chops. I really like to consider actual fighting styles.

Deadfoot

Like other WindClan fighters, he's super fast. His gauntlet is actually more defensive than you'd guess. Getting a FULL bonk with it is cumbersome, but if it lands, it's devastating. To do it he has to rear up and bring it down with full speed so if his enemy is anticipating this, it leaves his belly wide open

Plus, that time he fought Leopardfur by the gorge, he was probably wearing his travel gauntlet (lightweight for comfort). Not the battle one. It was a very fair fight.

Jayfeather

His fighting style is distinctive and looks horrific to an observer. Because he's blind and fast-moving targets evade him, he has been trained to latch on. Like a dog. He gets a bite and grapples, only letting go to get a better position.

I think it's kinda fun to think that Deadfoot's grandson has an equally unique fighting style to his own.

Tangleburr

And there are a ton of great ShadowClan fighters, but Tangleburr LOVES to fight and gets in so many spats and brawls that she's just ferocious. I like to think her and Brokenstar used to playfight a lot as kids, when he wasn't hanging out with Runny.

Lizardstripe wasn't an ABUSIVE mother, but she did have a generally bad idea of what sorts of activities were developmentally appropriate. If the kids wanted to brawl she would happily tussle. She probably nicked an ear on accident at some point.

So, Tangle has had a lot of experience fighting cats who are larger than herself. Important skills, considering she's about the same size as Runningnose.

Leopardstar

Of course she's a very strong cat, but I also want to mention she kills Thistleclaw, because the patrol that he dies on is now the same one that kills Sunfish. She ripped his throat open in revenge and he drops like a sack of potatoes.

She also has a habit of dramatic entries in canon that I really like and want to work in more of-- that time in Dangerous Path where she drops off a cliffside and JUST barely misses Fireheart's neck, slicing his shoulder open like a dropped butcher knife? Marvelous. I love that for her

When Mistyfoot has to kill her later, she got a bit lucky, or maybe a little bit blessed. There was a large stone just poking above the water and Misty smashes Leopardstar's head against it. She might not have won if it wasn't for that stroke of fate.

Hawkfrost

Bonefall Hawkfrost is much thinner than his dad and brother. He's an excellent fighter because his WHOLE body moves, a sort of cat-ambidexterity. I really like that one scene in OotS where he's training a bunch of the DF trainees how to fight a crowd so I based his entire fighting style on it.

He can be grappling the cat in front of him, then twist his weight to throw them right at the next cat running up. Sneaking up on him never works as his back leg lashes out to strike you square in the face. He's like a war machine.

His drawback of course is that fine motor skills are beyond him. He couldn't weave a nest if his life depended on it.

There's others that I've picked to have a generally high Fighting Skill stat but hasn't really worked out their styles; Torear, Whitewater, Rosepetal, Thornclaw, Graystripe, Skyheart, Icewing, Mudclaw, Sedgewhisker, Marshwing, so on.

How does Rosiepuff react to seeing all the boys again and learning all about, well, everything?

Rosiepuff kinda be like ‘sweet I get to see my grandsons again.’ When they left the first time, she didn’t actually think she’d ever see them again. In honesty she never thought she would end up leaving the Tree either. So seeing them is a pretty joyous occasion. Obviously seeing JD would be a shock considering she’s thought he was dead for the last several years.

I think a tiny part of her might be like where has he been? Kind of mindset but the vast majority of her conciousness knows he loves his brothers way too much to purposefully put Branch in that position and give him that pain (of thinking he was dead). She, correctly, guesses that something bad happened and it was just a crappy coincidence.

Rosiepuff doesn’t have a ton of hard feelings towards her daughter in law, although of course she doesn’t agree with her actions. She’d be surprised to hear that was originally who they were going to rescue. She doesn’t think her daughter in law would ever contact them. I think Rosiepuff might theorize she is dead but idk it doesn’t matter.

So yeah I mean she’s pretty happy. Seeing her grandsons again is pretty awesome. Learns she had great grandchildren which makes her feel super old. Idk if she’d travel to vacay island or not cause that’s pretty far for someone her age but maybe?

I kinda want Rosiepuff to do the pinching and smushing face child thing with Clay (even tho I don’t think she generally does that) cause he’s got a baby face (idk a little bit maybe) and I think it would be funny and ironic.

SW werewolf AU

yep, welcome back to another hyper fixated rambling! this one is heavy on found family though so it might be a bit more bearable.

Okay I've decided to center the concept on Ghost crew and slap it in the modern world just for funsies, since that means I can restructure the politics and whatever.

First off, I've decided that the jedi are all werewolves (or cats maybe? Ahsoka gives me cat vibes but she hardcore needs to be part of the pack so ig that can be left up to debate). They live human lives but have their own culture and events and get-togethers or hunts and such when they get home ofc. very strong bonds between pack members. Instead of calling themselves "werewolves" (despite that being the most colloquial and widely accepted term) some of them like to say they are "wolf bloods" because I guess that sounds more sophisticated. Almost all packs originate from the largest one in Coruscant (not a planet, just a region or somn), which has lots of intricate dynamics since also the alpha beta omega hierarchy is a thing. the way I want it to happen though is that their designation in the pack doesn't mean rank; it translates more directly to what role they play. I know that's not how actual wolf packs hash it out but think of it this way: omegas are sent out to do the nitty gritty field work, like buying groceries. Betas are responsible for caring for the overall health of the pack, and will use those groceries to make dinner for everyone. Alphas delegate everything, so they gave the omegas the shopping list and also the credit card and made sure everyone made it home from school and work on time to eat. Pack members are typically acquired through birth, though on the occasion they absorb an outsider who might have been changed with a bite.

Since Anakin and Co. would be kinda side characters in this au (but also because he's my bestie and I had to indulge him), he and Padme are like. soulmates. you know the ones. from wattpad. it only makes sense. when she found out about Anakin being a wolf blood that was a Whole Thing but she was eventually adopted by the pack and she agreed to be bitten so now the little puppies (Luke and Leia) are running around causing chaos with their abnormal and powerful supernatural abilities.

I want to say all the supernatural stuff kinda floats around the world while most humans are totally blind to it. Like Ventress has to be a vampire or a banshee or something, Sheev is an annoying breed of warlock, and Zeb needs to be a Creature not sure what kind.

anyway Kanan wanders away from the Coruscant pack because he's having a midlife crisis and wants to find himself. Depa and Mace kind of just snort and wave him off. It's pretty standard practice for young alphas to do stuff like that. Most end up rejoining the pack, but some do start their own in a different territory. Kanan finds his way to Lothal where he buys a cute lil house with his so much money (Mace is screaming Rich and taught his grandson how to invest like a champ yessir). He starts tending the local bar and decides to integrate with the nice townspeople just for a fun lil side quest.

Enter Hera, stage left. She's the captain of the local police precinct and has been operating out of Lothal for a few years now. She transferred from the Ryloth sector. Her dad is the chief of stations there. Actually, Hera and Kanan met once when she was still a detective. He thinks it's a great coincidence that their paths converge again, though her tough, stubborn attitude towards him is cold and professional (it's mostly because she remembers how crazy and fun he was and she doesn't want to be distracted from work). They dance around each other, as they do. Kanan is in love before he fully realizes. Something, something, he knows she's human, knows he can't start a pack with her, facetimes Anakin to rant about it, gets laughed at, Padme eventually bombs the call and tells him to go for it bc after all look how she and Anakin turned out (something crashes in the background. There is yelling. Obi-wan chases a Leia who is laughing maniacally while Luke complains about not being able to focus on his homework). Along the way they mention the increase in hunter activity in the Lothal area, so be careful bout that. Kanan has a hard time figuring out whether Hera knows about the supernatural side of things (she doesn't), but if she does he's starting to suspect she'd side with the infamous mandalorian hunters. She told him a story bout monsters and needing to protect the town and stuff. He's not sure how to convince her that not all non-humans are off the rails bat-kriff insane when he JUST got off the phone with the Disaster Lineage Family as they were in the process of burning their house down (you'd think werewolves would be more careful about playing with fire). He decides to go it safe for now. He'll tell her when he's ready (lol loser).

In the meantime, Zeb and Kanan meet. Zeb runs into him like at the grocery store and they kinda just glare at each other across the fruit aisle. Zeb sniffs obnoxiously a few times "what are ye?" He grumbles. Kanan is momentarily confused. He holds up a banana. "A smoothie guy?" Zeb's eyes narrow. "Ya smell like wet dog from here." (It's raining outside) Kanan gasps, offended. He sniffs his shirt, and all he gets is old spice deodorant (the one he knows hera likes). "I do not!"

Something, something, Zeb eventually places him as a wolf blood (he uses the preferred term, which gets him back on Kanan's good side). Zeb also reveals that he's… whatever he is, some kind of bestial not werewolf thing that can also shapeshift into a human for disguise. Maybe a yeti? a werebear? 👀 Weeeeeee! Anyway Zeb's a social worker at the group home where Ezra's staying atm.

"I've got this kid." He explains to Kanan. "Maybe you can check him out for me."

"What the—I'm not a babysitter."

"Just tell me if he's like you! It's not that hard, kriff. He's got no pack. That's important for you lot, isn't it?"

Kanan agrees to test Ezra somehow. Picks him up from school on Zeb's orders, takes him to get burgers at the local diner like classic spodermun energy, figures out that there's a wolf stalking Ezra (grand inquisitor) and they've had a few run-ins for the past few months. Like Ezra would never out and out say any of that but Kanan's smarter than he looks give him some credit. Also there are shifty red eyes in the flower bed across the street (Kanan's getting really protective now). In classic creepy creep fashion, they get into a car wreck on the way back through the woods. Something, something, Kanan's tires got slashed, the car tips, Kanan's hauling Ezra out by the time he wakes up, then like, runs off into the dark to chase what he's pretty sure is that prick stalker wolf because he's new to dad-ing and didn't think to not leave his kid alone. Grand inquisitor (he should really get an actual name. Maybe we can call him GI? GI Hoe?) Circles back to ezra and attacks him (poor guy) and bites him before Ezra konks out again. He wakes up in the morning like back at the house and everything is totally normal (Kanan really finessed his way out of that) Zeb is making waffles downstairs and school is in half an hour. He'd ask to skip but he feels great. Actually, there's no sign of any injuries (wolf bloods do heal fast ya know), as if the whole thing was one big dream. Except for the fact that he's having a mild sensory overload. Sight, sound, smell are all suddenly maxed out. You know.

Kanan actually brought Ezra back after the whole thing with GI Hoe in the woods (Kanan beat him up and got in the car and kept driving) then immediately dumped his car in the shop. So Zeb knows, but neither of them are totally sure that Ezra is a puppy yet so they decided to just keep a close eye on him until they know. Meanwhile Ezra's having a very weird day at school. He's not sure he can rant to any of his friends about what he's definitely sure happened last night because he has no evidence and anyway they've all got better things to focus on. Jai and Zare are stressing about midterms coming up, and Sabine keeps griping about an impromptu family reunion that's brought a bunch of really scary (in Ezra's opinion) relatives into town who have a mildly freakish obsession with hunting. Ezra's seen her basement. It's a kriffing armory down there.

Anyway classic Ezra trying to juggle all these crazy changes happening to him in the cliche textbook way except he doesn’t have a best friend guy in the chair sidekick to google obscure mythical articles about werewolves for him so he’s doing everything by himself (may or may not be skipping a few classes). Eventually Ezra runs into Kanan again. Probably because he shifted during a moonspell and ran around crazy and Kanan had to snatch him before Hera could shoot the kid. Kanan’s still got no idea how to parent so instead of calmly explaining stuff he just yells at ezra and tells him to be more careful. It doesn’t occur to Kanan that Ezra wasn’t born into a pack and has absolutely no kriffing idea what’s going on. Poor baby. Ezra figures out about Kanan “You’re a werewolf!” *cue more offended gasping* “where did you learn that slur?” “Oh my gOD you literally have fangs!” "what makes you think I'm not a vampire?" "Uh, you're not grossly pale?" "Not all vampires can be pale." "You also wear jeans" "kriff, that's true"

At first Ezra blames Kanan for all the crap he's now subjected to. He's scared and unsure and alone and looking for something to take it out on, and Kanan is convenient because he's just kinda there. But he gets defensive when Ezra confronts him "what do you mean my fault? Ain't got nothing to do with your problems, the kriff?" Ezra's shaking with all the rage trapped in his tiny body with his hands clenched into fists "yes it is! You're the one who bit me!" And Kanan's just dumbfounded and incredulous like first of all excuse you no I did not I was raised better than that holy kark. All pups are taught at a young age that it's very bad manners to Bite someone on a whim. And Kanan may be selfish but he'd never just dump the transformation on a kid with no warning. So then they're just both staring at each other like wait so then who bit Ezra and even GI Hoe denies it when they catch him and beat him up for answers like yeah he's bitten Ezra before but it wasn't The Bite so Kanan realizes that Ezra must have been born a wolf blood and the sudden appearance of a pack near his previously unoccupied home territory plus also him reaching the age where his powers start to get stronger must have triggered an awakening in his body or something. He would have manifested his wolf blood abilities much younger if his parents hadn't died and if he'd been incorporated into a large pack (he would have been so cute as a baby wolf but alas).

On the one hand, it's reassuring to Ezra knowing there are other wolf bloods out there, but Kanan also was not looking for a pseudo son on his quest for self-discovery so he's being annoying and generally unhelpful about it. Of course, that attitude changes when GI Hoe starts to make his intentions known. He's already got a pack, which reflects the more traditional structure that we're familiar with reading about: very hierarchical, very antagonistic, glowing red eyes, often attacks humans or livestock for funsies. Tensions between inquisitors are high as always so they're constantly looking for new recruits (they kill each other all the time). He keeps trying to adopt Ezra for his ranks, sensing that Ezra could be a powerful asset. when Kanan discovers this, he goes full dad mode and claims Ezra as part of his fam. This leads to lots of confrontations with inquisitors and ultimately ends in the death of GI Hoe. Subsequently the pack is scattered and leaves Lothal territory. Auntie Soka visited from Coruscant to help with that part a bit because she wanted a vacation from spying on Sheev for Padme. She brings her mate Rex (not sure if to make him and the boys another kind of shapeshifter like dragons or just have them be Normal Guys) so they all have fun family bonding.

Kanan tells Ahsoka about how he's in love with Hera and what should he do about it and she is unimpressed with his drama "just bite her. I don't see what the problem is" he is aghast. He would never force something like that on Hera! Plus he's been dancing around the topic with her for a while and he's pretty sure she would hate him if she found out he was a wolf blood—doubly so if he made her into one against her will. Not that he's even told her they exist. As far as Hera's concerned, the mythical world is not reality. Ahsoka is still unimpressed.

Oh by the way Sabine's family are all hunters. Like wolf blood/vampire/faerie/dragon/troll/whatever else hunters which only makes sense if you think about it because they're mandalorians aka the mortal enemies of the jedi (all of whom are some kind of non-human in this AU). Sabine at her age has already learned all the skills and weapons she will need to kill Stuff, and has herself already made a few excellent plaques to adorn her room (after Ezra realizes he's a wolf blood, he starts to hate hanging out at her house. It lowkey gives him panic attacks, now that he knows what kind of wolf heads she's got mounted over her desk). She obviously doesn't talk about the mythical stuff with people outside her family, at least in specific detail. She only ever rants about their group "hunts" but never mentions what they're hunting in exact names. Boy would it be traumatic for her to realize her best friend is one of the beasts she's been trained to kill since she was small. Maximum angst if she shoots him once or twice in his wolf form and continually tracks him (lol poor guy) to the point that she considers him her trophy kill and is determined to get That One if it's the last thing she does. This makes Ezra very sad boi hours. He loves his friend but obviously he doesn't wanna die. One time Sabine almost got him (oh no!) Then Kanan stepped in at the last second and almost killed her before Ezra stopped him and yeah it's just all around a lot of violence weeeee. Hera really can't keep up with all these animal attack reports.

When Sabine finds out she is furious and horrified and feels very betrayed and has lots of strong feelings but can't actually bring herself to kill Ezra after all because she loves her friend too and like so does her family he's over for dinner all the time and lowkey they were considering adopting him. What wins her over in the end is that he carries himself like a sad puppy all over the place which is both adorable and depressing. Her dad was also there when she found out so he gets her to keep quiet about it and not tell the rest of the Wrens yet because he knows it'd be signing poor Ezra's death sentence and he can't bear to think about that (Sabine's dad was always loyal to the family and supportive of their hunting but Ezra is Ezra and literally one of the fundamental laws of the universe is protect the baby). Eventually Sabine manages to turn her family because she's cool like that and convinces them to hunt only problematic creatures instead (cough cough palpacreep).

Somehow Maul exists. Another warlock maybe? I dunno he's annoying.

Kallus can just be human. He's probably a lieutenant who works for Hera. They're bros. They have coffee together. He doesn't get paid enough to deal with their shenanigans.

Things that need to happen in this AU:

Hera hits wolf Kanan with her car while on patrol. Horrified by having rammed an animal at country road speed, she springs into action, stuffing this larger than abnormally large wolf into her back seat and flicking the lights and siren on. When she gets to the animal hospital, the vet is out. It’s just Intern Ezra locking up the building. Hera is frantic. Thank goodness Ezra is still here! She needs his help! Ezra’s always willing to help an animal in distress, but when he sees it’s Kanan, he almost considers breaking his code. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” He deadpans. Kanan glares. Hera doesn’t understand what’s going on, and Ezra needs to keep face so he reluctantly helps her cart the wolf inside, where he takes some X-rays and does some busy-body nonsense in the back. He returns to an anxious Hera in the waiting room, who has pledged to pay any bill or charge in full. “Good news! It’s not as bad as it looks.” (Kanan has broken his leg in three places and cracked two ribs but Hera doesn’t need to know that) She is relieved and vows to return as soon as she can. Ezra goes and whacks Kanan upside the head. “You can change back now. She’s gone.” He throws an arm over his eyes and wheezes. “That kriffing hurt.” The next day, when Kanan sees Hera for some reason he’s wearing the usual leg brace under his sweatpants to hide that but something, something, his shirt rides up and she sees the bruising all down his side and her brain short circuits “How did that happen?” it takes all of Kanan’s willpower not to say “hit by a car”

Ahsoka eats a man

Luke and Leia make the national news

Palpatine gets impeached and also imprisoned in a fish bowl where he is forced to live out the rest of his miserable days stripped of magic

When Kanan begrudgingly agrees to teach Ezra the basics of wolf stuff they go out in the woods together and practice shifting. Hera sees them once and is delighted to find the wolf she ran down doing well “Hello again! Aww, your son is so cute!” (Ezra is thrilled to be called cute by nice police lady Hera)

The first time Hera brings Kanan home Chopper her cat goes apespit hissing and yowling and absolutely wrecking the furniture to get away. When it becomes apparent that Kanan is to be invited back multiple times, Chopper begins the series of attempted murders. Hera can’t puzzle out why her cat is more hostile than usual meanwhile Kanan is sweating buckets because every time he leaves his scent in Hera’s house it makes Chopper lose another brain cell

Zeb is mistaken for Bigfoot by some late-night hiker

Okadiah has just always known about Kanan and everyone. He just sits there chilling like he’s not really anything Special he’s a normal human but he knows and just sits there with popcorn and ice tea watching all this drama unfold

EPISODE REVIEW TIME:

(spoilers for "juricksic mort" ahead)

SOOOO, not a whole lot to say about this episode. i'm super happy that morty was more involved!! it was kind of a weird plot that felt out-of-place for the season, but i guess that was the point.

a little list of my thoughts:

-RICK DRIVING MORTY TO SCHOOL. RICK DRIVING MORTY TO SCHOOL. so sweet. he's becoming a staple parental figure in the smith household.

-ANYONE ELSE PICKING UP ON THAT TENSION BETWEEN RICK AND CURTIS??? (i was hoping for a BP moment this ep but... when curtis paged him i was thinking "your crush will call you" and... uh... yeah, the shoe kinda fits...). honestly, i feel like their tension has shifted a bit from sexual to romantic, too???

-i thought it was kinda cute that rick was so interested in hosting the oscars.

-MORTY IS SO DAMN CUTE OH MY GOD. when he said "clever girl" i literally said "AWWW" out loud lmao.

-i really really loved the detail of rick drinking wine with beth. i know it's something small and silly, but i've really been waiting for a moment where rick drinks "beth's poison" while they have a drink together (since we know they often go "tie one on" etc.)

-THE BETHS IN THEIR OSCAR GOWNS??? AFLASGAHG

-morty was so cute in his little suit. (it gave me campain manager morty flashbacks to that scene after the debate in "the ricklantis mixup")

-i also loved the part where rick hit the mic with the oscar. that was so cutie.

-RICK THINKING HE'D IMMEDIATELY BE GOOD AT SKATING BC HE PLAYED PRO SKATER 3- i loved that. all of the details that he's essentially a teen boy.

-I LOVE THAT THEY'RE NOT REVERTING BACK TO RICK BEING A DICK TO MORTY. they have such a cutesy, domestic, and sweet type of relationship now. sure, there was the moment where he said calling morty a "genius" was ironic, but he tussled morty's hair and actually offered to take him to boob world. i think it was so fucking sweet for him to be like "figured my guy deserved a vacation!" truly some grandpa and grandson wholesomeness.

-i think that was kind of a cheap way to solve the whole portal travel/rift issue, though.

overall, i liked the episode. it was more of an adventure-type deal, and it brought back some more of the "rick and morty" dynamic the show has been lacking.

i have to say that it did feel sliiiightly more geared towards the "bro" side of the fandom this go around, which is a switch-up from this season so far- BUT, i feel like the teaser after the episode definitely left the door open for MORE serialization. that to build suspense coupled with the month hiatus has me thinking that this was more of a one-off episodic fakeout before they get a little deeper into the heavy stuff, but we'll see. the fact that they mentioned prime again in the season synopsis DEFINITELY had me thinking that he's gonna be relevant again.

i also feel like there wasn't enough of rick being an asshole to morty (quite the opposite, actually) and a little too much homosexual tension between rick and the president for this to be too much of a dudebro-centric episode lol. PLUS the "poor people" commentary in the beginning was definitely shitting on the top 1%.

(i feel like the elon musk mention was kind of confirmation that rick couldn't give two-shits about elon lmao).

decent episode overall!!

Eru, being contrarian: “But what if Ivan prefers women?”

OKAY, I’m working on this headcanon. I know this will be unpopular and I don’t mind lol, as Eru also likes being different.

In all honesty, this doesn’t rly point toward sexuality tho. In my head Ivan fucks and is fucked by men, and he also gets it on with women, but this honestly can mean anything for nations as old as him. What I am trying to say is that Ivan actually prefers being around women, feels more comfortable around them, and that he is very conscious of women in general and defers to them quite a lot. My reasonings:

Ivan has two sisters and he revolves his life and mind around them.

I also headcanon that the Eastern European siblings have a mother, Mommy Rus. No, I don’t hc the siblings as starting out from Rus principalities, but that they were born already carrying the prophecy of the countries to come even though the principalities perhaps thought of them as new baby principalities, AT first. Anyway, Ivan has a mother complex.

I headcanon that as a baby he was raised by human women of the village, often sleeping in the same bed their own children slept in. As an adult, babushkas think of him as their own grandson and perhaps due to their wisdom that comes with age are instinctively aware that he’s not just some random dude, so they take care of him a lot.

Russia as a country has a female and feminine representation, and this is very intimately internalized. However, Ivan is a dude. I wonder how he would feel abt that, then? His country is traditionally a woman, but he himself is a man. While I don’t think he’s into machismo or sth, he is still a man with generally masculine mindsets and presentation that which he prefers and what he was taught with when he was young. Therefore, I think sometimes he jokes that he is a husband instead to his wife Russia, his cold and severe wife, the mother of his children his people, who is also him as there is only ever one Russia. The ‘Russia’ that he vows to love, to protect, and to lay his life for, but obviously it’s funny because that’s all himself. Anyway, this works nicely for him tho because when he is super miserable with everything and is in an especially self-pitying mood he can blame his hardships on ‘her’ instead. Convenient!! If only General Winter was a woman lol bc he works nicely as ‘Ivan’s wife’

Women are often likened to cats and men with dogs. Russians prefer cats usually. Case closed!!

He likes feminine aesthetics. He loves female softness. He loves how clean and nice smelling women generally are, and he loves the comfort they give him.

As for his relationship with men, it’s… more neutral. He can admire men too ofc, but for the most part it just needs to be rly striking men because otherwise he won’t rly turn his head. Men are just there and taken for granted, the fact Ivan is aware of as he is also a man. But women tho, especially mothers, and especially wizened old mothers… Ivan just mentally prioritizes them over men.

Well, I guess I’m making him a bi who prefers women, but in all honesty, I think 1000+ year old nations won’t care so badly abt labels. Besides, I also hc that Ivan is kinda meh abt sex lmao (another unpopular hc).

brother calling Ann and Kuzan divorced parents is so funny genuinely… but nah, as someone with divorced parents he does not give me those vibes, don’t get me wrong you can love and be loved by both of your parents but theres always something kinda missing? I guess? Like having proper role models for a functioning relationship I guess. It’s hard to put into words what’s missing when you’re a well loved child of divorcee parents because there’s SOMETHING not there but it’s almost negligible in the long run. Or maybe there’s just something else wrong with me idk, but anyway KuzAnn kid doesn’t give that personality to me.

As much as I act like a mother who dislikes her daughters boyfriend, when it comes down to it I’m like their number one supporter. 🙏I want her to be happy and for my grandson to have two, happy, loving parents. Also KuzAnn kid just has that natural relaxedness that comes from having a stable childhood and divorce in any form doesn’t really do that lol

One Piece Live Action Thought

I just finished with the live action serie and here is some of my thoughts:

The good:

Wierd characters designs. I love how the kept it and didnt turn it into a joke how wierd people dressed at times. Or changing it to make them look cooler or more normal. Mihawk still has his wierdly shaped facial hair. Merrys has his horns and Kujo has his poop suit.

Handeling of arc. I like how the mixed the arcs together more so it wasnt as spontaneous were they sailed towards. There was a goal for the crew. It kinda felt like how dressrosa- wano was like.

Buggy He was great. Actually pretty scary here. He is still silly and I can see that if they kept him as the comic relief he is like in the original might not have gone as well in live action.

The natrual:

Luffys personality. He is more down to earth in the live action. And wholesome and not as carefree like in the original. He isnt unloveble, I just love the "oh, hes little fucked up actually" feel he has in the original. But seeing a real person act the way original Luffy does could be irritating?

Zoros personality. He has the current personality. I do love it. But Im sure Im not the only one that wished he had his old east blue personality. Where he laugh at Luffys antics and was messing around himself. and then after fighting Mihawk he could have gotten more serious after realising the distans that was between him and the greatest.

The bad:

Garp He went from the good, to natrual, to bad. He was good with the execution. While it was odd why he would be the one to order the execution, I could see it him getting the 'honor' for capturing Gol D Roger. And when he got the call to investigate seashell towns burglary was also nice. Even if it was wierd that Garp would be the one to investigate it when he dont operate in East blue. But I guessed that he was on his way to visit Windmill Village and because he was of high rank and close he was asked to go there. But then he was going to hunt down the strawhats and it just seemed out of the place so Garp ended up on natural for me. But after that the more he was seen the more I disliked him being there. He just didnt seem like Garp to me. Like he was frustrated that Mihawk didnt catch him?? Is this really Garp we talking about? And consider Oda was against adding Garp this early on is proof that its right that he doesnt fit. And with having Garp be introduced as Luffys granpa already and having him do the throwing canon ball scene just made it seem like Netlix had already decided they wont to the entire serie. So they did the cool scenes now so its done.

Mihawks Personality I dislike listening to him. He sounded so snobby. I liked his "Im bored, tired and nothing excites me anymore" personality in the original serie. You never know where he stand on any subject. He is a morally gray character that did think what he felt like at the moment. But in the live action he sounded like he looked down at everyone. And how did he know Luffy was garps grandson?? Wasnt that suppose to be a secret from everyone?!

No Loguetown I was bit dissipointed that there were no Loguetown. Maybe the Garp part took up too much time so they didnt have time with the last island. I just assumed they would make the entire East Blue saga in this season. And have them sailing towards the reverse mountain as the cliffhanger.

I finally started watching Legend of Korra. Just finished Book 1.

It was ok? Even though ATLA is one of my favorite shows of all time, I’ve never been super interested in watching LOK, mostly because the more modern, urban setting doesn’t appeal to me per say. But I needed to watch something while feeding my newborn, so here we go! Finally doing it.

Random thoughts:

I like Korra. We love a nice, impulsive hothead. They were smart to make her so different from Aang.

I’m meh on the rest of Team Avatar so far? I was warming to Mako before he got pulled into the love triangles (because who can resist a broody firebender). Bolin I wanted to like but I find him a bit annoying so far. Asami had a few nice moments but was also injured by the love triangle. This is rough because the ATLA characters were just so lovable, even very minor ones.

I am warming up to the older characters. Tenzin grew on me. He had me when he was getting all annoyed a probending refs. (Side note, but if Aang were around he would totally be giving Tenzin a hard time over bending too serious for probending - Aang in center the air scooter, he loved games, he would have probably liked bending games.) Lin is gruff but who doesn’t love gruff? She reminds me of early Murphy from Dresden Files but in a good way.

Given that ATLA had airships and tanks, the fact that there are cars and airplanes isn’t that weird. But it does feel a little weird.

A bender vs non-bender conflict could have been very interesting, but it wasn’t well done and the escalation made no sense. Might expand on this. I have lots of notes for how this could have been improved.

The pacing and the tension of the season wasn’t bad. It just… there were missed opportunities.

Amon’s mask was cool though. He wasn’t bad as a villain.

Tarrlok too. I guess I enjoyed the villains more than her heroes, hmm. His last scenes got to me.

I am so annoyed that season one is about learning airbending, but we spend way more time on pro-bending. It’s basically ignored until the last episode.

Same for the spiritual stuff, which… makes the last scenes interesting.

Like I said… I have notes.

Probending is kinda boring. I can think of way more interesting bending sports. I wanted to like it. But every time it was featured, I just thought about earth rumbles and Agni Kai’s and Katara encasing Azula in ice… we could have such a cooler bending sport.

Tenzin’s kids should be way older. He waited until later in life to have kids, which is a bold move for the last airbender. (But whatever, these are the people who said Roku is Zuko’s great grandfather which makes no sense mathematically.)

I don’t like Tenzin or adult Aang’s beards. Just not a fan.

Katara’s alive. Aang, Sokka, and Toph appeared in flashbacks. Zuko is the only one we didn’t see. But we did get his grandson! Who is around the age Tenzin’s kids should probably be.

I noticed in the avatar wiki that Jinora’s (and all the air kids) ethnicity is listed as Air Nomad and Water Tribe. But they have a mother! And she does not look very water tribe. So I submit to you my first head cannon: Pema has both earth kingdom and fire nation ethnicity. Meaning Aang’s grandchild have the blood of all four elements.

Now that we're halfway through the season, quick recap of how this works!

This season really turned up on the horror!!!

I have to admit though, at the beginning of this series, I would not have guessed that out all the League, it's Spinner that becomes close to Tomura. It's a pleasant surprise though. I mean, I have a soft spot for characters that at first glance you didn't think would be buddies later on.

"I get this heartburn that makes me want to throw up." Maybe you should get checked out, my guy.

And that concludes this half of this season!

By far, this was the most gut punching arc of the anime. I had cries, laughs, screams, times I rethink my life choices...

Like... what else can I say? I loved it! And I'm scared for what's coming because... oh, boy. *shivers in manga reader*

Roly's new kid Zigobi continues to be woefully unattractive.

his mother loves him which is all I'll ask for here honestly.

dad treats the Infant Illness while wearing the largest trenchcoat ever recorded by man.

Maybe I'll do a run-through of some of our more interesting colonists here at Chaos Gene. Here, have a readmore.

I guess I'll just do them in occasional parts when I feel like it? There's quite a few members now. Let's start with the first two main families!

Boneface, who began as our only colonist- then, a reclusive, solo mechanitor averse to crowds and daylight. Not yet his current incarnation of some sort of golem of yardwork, but his penchant for invading abandoned labs and injecting whatever vials he found resulted in this.

He was originally the colony leader, but since became our voidseeker instead due to Neil eclipsing him as a psycaster- and the strongest is the leader around here. Boneface's main role in the colony at the moment is research and construction, with occasional kitchen stints when one of the other cooks can't keep up. Fuck knows how he stirs pots with chainsaw hands. He's also a druid, which I expect absolutely nobody would anticipate. He mostly uses this for regenerating his wife in combat.

As a mortifying aside, Boneface found his mother in a cryptosleep casket, and ended up selling her to the Imperials for honor points. His daughters are still kinda high-key mad at him, understandably (but she was wildly hostile to them all). He also has relatives absolutely all over the place, including at LEAST two other sons that we've caught in raids and released. We have no idea who their mothers are. There's an aunt somewhere, cousins, grandparents and a grandson.

Boneface has pretty clearly done some substantial shit before founding this colony but we don't know any of the details. Who is he running from?

We still have the option of calling and inviting all his relatives via console (including his mother). We MAY eventually do that.

His wife, Fulvia, originally a refugee at Boneface's then-humble cottage for a few weeks, of whom he was rightfully absolutely terrifed of due to being a hussar and basically already having both this level of combat skill and a very limited supply of go-juice. Boneface spent the entire time afraid for his life as if she snapped at any moment he would wind up wrapped around the fractured chassis of his mechanoids and resemble the aftermath of a car accident instead of a man. I'm convinced his courtship of her was entirely due to a fear boner.

She has not entirely abstained of her husbands vial-injecting habits, but her choices are far more... considered. Those two genes increase combat efficiency, and the wings permit an avoidance of terrain penalties. Also, literally WHO would turn down the option to grow wings?

It will shock nobody to know that Fulvia spends most of her time in combat training. If we need to send a single colonist to do a quick combat-ready caravan run, she's the nominee (usually for lab quests). She's also a blood mage, which means she starts fights by stabbing herself, and letting the blood magic build until she can bring fucking demons out of the void to sic on our enemies. Fulvia is metal.

Fulvia and Boneface actually did try quite hard to avoid having children, but are far, FAR more compatible than their relative personalities suggest. These two adore each other (even if I have caught Boneface occasionally flirting with other people's wives and being rejected hard. I'm putting that down to ego.) All three of their daughters are unplanned (and Fulvia has an IUD now so any future offspring will be under our control).

Their eldest daughter, Basilia, combat and crafting extraordinaire, and not-insubstantial pain in my arse.

Basilia's skills are mostly due to genetic manipulation on her own part. Like her mother, she has wings (though a different sort; she was born before mother had the gene and had to inject them attached to one that lowers her carrying capacity... annoying, but not disastrous).

As you may observe, Basilia possesses several personality traits that render her a pretty meaningful fucking obstacle socially. I blame her Dad. She works herself half to death, eats everything in the fucking freezer, somehow breathes in a way that pisses everyone off, does everything slow for no reason, gets shitty if she's not allowed to travel, and goes out of her way to give everyone else the shits by employing zero tact. That 2 social should be negative twenty seven. Mostly I let her train and craft, and hope that she has the good sense to keep her goddamned mouth shut. She's yet to develop magic, which is NOT helping her standing in the colony. I need to work on that as there's a big social stigma for that here.

As a sidenote, as a child, she absolutely, categorically could not gain any Learning points. I have never had this happen before. This did not affect any other colony children. I actually had to put her in a growth vat until she hit 13 to stop the 'learning starved' tantrums. This would be why her age is somewhat disproportionate, but I had no choice. I STILL have absolutely no idea why this happened. Was it the Lazy trait?

Their second daughter, Bantra, is a bit of a wallflower, and mostly manages to go unremarked on by the colony. Mostly.

She's a good kid, and honestly no trouble despite a couple of questionable traits. She's a fantastic shot and already joins our main fights despite only being nine years old (I typically gate that until they're older due to the low body part HP). She hangs in back of fights and takes long shots that do great damage. I ought to award her with a proper sniper rifle- I think we have one somewhere.

Their third daughter, who was very late, and VERY unplanned, came after Daddy got most of his... stranger genes.

Partridge (her auto-generated name that I just found adorable enough to keep) hit combat expertise at three years old and two days. I'm still not game to bring her to a fight, but that's quite a few beneficial genes, and she's going to grow into her father's Bane-esque body proportions. She got her mother's wings and... uh, aggression. She already gets into a lot of fights, and tends to win, which is I'm sure at least partly due to having powertools for extremities. She's a body purist. She was BORN WITH THEM, so it's okay.

Being four years old, Partridge's current colony duties are... somehow already combat training, lessons from probably at least somewhat terrified teachers, and getting into absolutely knock down drag-out shitfights in the recreation room.

Our colony leader and ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE FAVORITE, Neil.

Neil was actually purchased by Boneface, who saw her for sale from an orbital trader as a slave. She was nine years old at the time (ignore their relative ages; the aging rates are weird in this game). Boneface is not the most ethical man in the world, shall we say, but she was being sold for next to nothing, and he concluded that it was better to take her in and recruit her to the colony proper than leave her in the wild to take her chances with whoever DID end up buying her.

Boneface did not account for being absolutely dogshit at social, and Fulvia had not yet returned to stay with him (she left after her refugee period was complete, and he had to research the tech to build the communications console to call her back). It took this man entire quadrums to convince this tiny, tiny girl that he meant her no harm. He didn't even have the bone face and chainsaw hands back then. He was just the world's most awkward nerd (he still is now, of course, but he can rev his chainsaw engines to hide the awkward silences).

Neil has also been fairly conservative with her gene choices. Tough skin is a desperate attempt to keep her intact in combat (it does not help), and the other two are for trade advantages and social boosts that she doesn't actually need. She is a dame of the Empire, and a properly dangerous psionic in her own right, but mercifully lacks the ego to match. Neil is a sweetheart and pulls far, far more weight than you'd guess.

She's also pregnant right now! There'll be another child soon.

Pompilius Ahenobarbus, Ekkiman sanguophage, chronomancer, head researcher, moral leader and former seamstress (yes, it explicitly calls him a seamstress in his tooltips. Trans, maybe?).

Pompilius was originally a baseliner and an Imperial that came to Boneface's cottage after Fulvia left, but before Boneface could manage to research enough to build the console to invite her to live with him (She sent him a concrete plinth as a thanks for saving her when he arrived though, which I take to mean Pompilus was delivering the gift. We've kept it- it's in the temple, engraved with a knuckleduster, and we use it to store hemogen packages. Fulvia was an artist, so in my head, she made it, and gave it to her friend to deliver. Anyway.)

Pompilius is another big-ticket member of the colony. He does a large, large swath of the academic work, and his prettiness somewhat offsets the unattractiveness imposed by his xenotype (yes, Ekkimen are meant to be bald, but I've pared that off his genome. He had lush hair and I didn't like how it changed his look). He tries his best to be good at combat when it's called for but his absolute terror of fire tends to mean that he panics against mechanoids. He panics in general- I get a few notifications here and there about anxiety attacks, which cannot be prevented by mood boosts. Shame.

Originally, he was a temporary refugee, but Boneface and Fulvia (when she arrived) got a distress call from him in need of rescue from raiders. Given that he has researched the console that we'd used to call in Fulvia, we felt like we owed him. It wasn't a bad decision!!

His role as a chronomancer means that he's saved many lives in the colony by casting 'reverse time' on them as quickly as he can when they've died (this notably includes Neil more than once; she's made of glass). We've also taken to hoarding the corpses of our diplomatically-amenable enemies and reviving them the same way out of our freezers, to send them home with a story of our intent and a relationship boost for our act of great magical mercy.

He's an excellent trader but tends not to get to use it. Neil's the one that goes for trade caravans, and he usually comes along with because they both get big upsetti when they're apart.

Their children!

Their first daughter and ever-popular SMALLEST GIRL IN THE WORLD, Vasbia!

Vasbia is high-key a favorite of mine, despite having quite a few traits that render her... not wildly useful. She reminds me a bit of Wednesday Addams, and it's not just the pigtails she aged up into. She's depressive, gets very distressed when others are sad, seems to usually have a very unimpressed sort of expression, has a very kind disposition despite it. She loves food (we won't begrudge her, she's super tiny and has a terrible metabolic efficiency due to her genes lol, but it made her SO hard to keep alive as a baby). She's made of absolute glass, and despite having TWO entire genes that will increase the damage she can do in combat, I can't see myself ever having the courage to frontline-soldier her. She enjoys training regardless- or perhaps she just likes sitting on top of the training dummy like an owl, as it looks there.

It mercifully has yet to come up, but she is WILDLY flammable, yet lacks her father's fear of fire. She will literally turn into one of those tiny tea candles if she ever catches fire. She inherited Dad's ability to long jump, which means she's basically a grasshopper. She's also a corpsefeeder, which means the SECOND combat is over, she's out there drinking dead soldiers. My tiny cat Wednesday with corpse juice in her pigtails.

Her little brother, Alobar. FUCKING ALOBAR.

Alobar is a goddamned bastard-arse nightmare child. He was grown in a vat, which is for the best because he'd have kicked the shit out of his mother as a fetus.

Alobar is aggressive as shit and does not have the chops to back it up, but he thinks he does. Whenever I see a popup about a social fight, I always look to his portrait to see if it's got the little red bastard thunderbolt. Alobar wants drugs but mercifully doesn't seem to go for them unless told (I presume that's coding to stop your chemically interested babies from killing themselves). This does not prevent him chucking tantrums about not being allowed to have any, like a toddler that wants to drink the chemicals under the sink. He tempts me to loosen the childproof lids, I tell you.

Alobar will make a great night-shift researcher when he's older, but until then I'm daily resisting the temptation to put him in the 'bastard be gone' child growth vat so I don't have to deal with his fuckshittery.

Alobar's behaviour makes me a little afraid for the next kid on the way, due in (I would guess) a couple of quadrums.

None of the kind genes from the mother got through... but it'll be immortal, for when someone inevitably punches it into glass shards thanks to the hyper-aggressive and delicate genes.
