Jinx is very physically affectionate with you. Like very, very. That works out great for you because you can finally have those soft touches and looks and smiles that you've been craving all your life.

You can always feel her hand somewhere on you. Your shoulder, your back, holding your hand. She probably spends more time clinging to you then not. Doesn't care who sees it or what they say, if you're feeling alone and unwanted she will make it a priority to make you feel loved and wanted.

"Ain't gonna stop holding ya until ya tell me to sugar. Is the answer never? Fine by me. Great even. I've had partners tell me I'm too clingy before so I was honestly a little worried. Don't ya just love it when things work out? Only more proof that we're made for each other."

Vi is also touch starved. She is very, very touch starved. The smallest show of physical affection makes the both of you melt for each other and makes you crave more.

Blushes a lot and avoids your eyes when you hold hands yet tries to act all suave when she has her arms around you. It's almost like a shield that she's putting up around her heart. Little does she know that there's no need to for that around you.

Loves to cuddle with you. You don't even have to ask. Whenever you're in the mood for it her arms are open for you. You're pretty sure that she spoils you with affection. There's no setting where she's not comfortable at least holding hands with you.

There's no shortage of kisses or touches of any kind. She actually rather appreciates that you don't shy away from her metal hand like some people do, with good reason she sure does pack a punch with it. Nor will she get tired of the way you welcome her home and hug her tight, all her tiredness and stress just melting away from the sight of you.

"You have to stop with these ways of welcoming me home sweetheart, otherwise I won't want to go back to work. That's your secret plan I bet. Knew you were up to something. Only took me a few years to figure out what. Yeah, you're incredibly evil. Now that I have it figured out I guess I'll have to handcuff you."

Cassandra really wants to spoil you with lots of physical touches and at the same time she doesn't want to be too much. She'd hate to drive you away because she's overbearing in some way.

If you're the one who initiates the touch or if you kiss her or compliment her then she will return those ten times as strongly. When she's sure that you don't think she's being a bit too much she could hold you all day, or at least until there are things that she needs to attend to.

"Are you sure darling? Hm, very well then, let me scoot over. You're not a bother I was only reading. It's nothing important, not more important then you anyway. I don't have anything that requires me to get up early tomorrow, so we can spend all night like this. Would you like that?"

Mel is touch starved just as much as you but unlike you she doesn't show it. Not for a very long time at least. She'll let you indulge in her touches and signs of affection as much as you want, just don't expect her to be so open about her wanting the same.

Her melting into your touch as you do for hers is a very big sign of trust of her to you. She has no problem with you looping your arm around hers or even having your arm wrapped around her all night long, if you let her do the same to you, in that way she feels like you're being equally as open and vulnerable with each other.

"Don't look at me like that darling. Like what? Like I'll vanish before your very eyes. Haven't I made my intentions with you clear? There is no one more important to me then you. I can't remember the last time I've let someone hold me like this, or held someone like I hold you."

Ambessa might be too touchy. Maybe just a little. The woman will swoop you up in a bone crushing hug and a breathtaking kiss whenever she sees you, no matter who's around to witness it.

She's not embarrassed of showing you off, or showing off her affection for you, not when she knows how much you want and love it. But she does understand if you're not one for public affection. No matter, even if it's just when you're alone she makes sure let you know how loved and cherishes you are.

Arcane and food

There is a subject that’s been turning and turning around my head for quite some time now and that I really wanted to analyze because it’s just a detail and yet it gives me Feels Of Beautiful *o*, and it is: food in Arcane. But bear with me because we’re going to take detours that might be unexpected? (I want to mention air jails and pomegranates)

So, I’m not gonna teach you anything when I say: food is important. In real life obviously, but in fiction too. What I have in mind here: in real life you can’t survive without food, so it’s something that you do everyday, so it is a very mundane and daily thing… which is precisely why, in fiction, it can be very absent (the heroes have to save the world/prove themselves/find their identity/solve a big mystery/… = better things to do than what we do in our daily lives because it is a story to get us out of our everyday lives) or on the contrary very meaningful (ex: In The Lion King, Simba is a carnivorous lion but he accepts to get used to eating bugs when he meets Timon and Pumbaa and decides to live with them, it’s a symbol of him leaving his lion life behind).

Also, in the classical tragedies, there is the rule of grandeur: the main characters have to be princesses and kings and never your common citizen. And princesses and kings will not be shown doing stuff like peeing or eating in this genre, because it is too down to earth for the beauty that’s being displayed.

So, eating = down to earth, concerns your everyday living people ; not eating = what people that are more akin to queens and deities will do, celestial. And that’s a distinction that I really feel in Arcane…

Vi

Vi eats (like a pig) when she gets out of prison, and she very much says it: « we’re here because I’m hungry ». When she eats, she eats. She puts fuel into her stomach and that’s it, it’s a very earthy and mundane thing, it’s not a metaphor like tobacco can be (tobacco = power in the Undercity). Vi just eats like we all do and that’s it. 

…Or is it? Well, at least that’s what she says to Caitlyn. Caitlyn was following Vi in hope of being led to important clues, and she gets pissed when she sees Vi stopping for food, because that is definitely not what Caitlyn got into the Undercity for… Because Caitlyn, as a Topsider, is not hungry. She had breakfast this morning, she will have dinner tonight, it’s whatever, her needs are met and she doesn’t need to think about it, and the viewer doesn’t have to think about it. But Vi is the opposite: As a prisoner, her needs depended on the decisions of the people in charge of her prison. She most probably didn’t get to choose what when or how, and most probably got the minimum and a look of disdain with it. In my head, I really like to make this cute comparison: you know how pet owners take their animals, like a dog for exemple, and they lift them above the ground when they have been naughty, and it’s « no, you’re in air jail now ‘cause you’ve been a bad dog so as a consequence you’re not allowed to dog anymore for a fitting amount of time » and it’s not a slap and not a hug and not a game, and the dog is just up confused with her legs dangling straight like IIII° <oh no what now? and they can’t do anything because air is not their element, the ground is, proven by the fact that they have all of four legs which is a lot of legs when you think about it and all of them want to touch the earth, so quadrupeds are like very ground dependent I guess. So the idea of air jail is that the pet can’t do anything and all that’s left is thinking about their existence and the choices they made and how it led them into not being able to choose anything anymore, and to be at the total mercy of their air jailer who happen to have only two legs that need to touch the ground, and two damned other that can remove you from your daily fulfilling life. And I might put a little too much thoughts into what’s basically cute a meme, but I think that is what is behind the air jail, and that is why it is so funny and cute when you do that to your pet (I’ve only seen it done with love), but yeah here is the thing: that is exactly what Stillwater is, but without the funny and loving part.

All of that detour to say that when Vi was in prison, she was basically in air jail. She wasn’t ‘just imprisoned’, she was removed from existence, and that aspect is accentuated by the fact that a) the prison is called “still water”, as in ‘you’re not allowed to move anymore’, b) it’s on an island that’s removed from both Piltover and the Undercity, and also: c) the time-skip.

The time-skip is very meaningful, because it makes us feel like everything was stopped and stuck from the moment Marcus took Vi away to the moment Caitlyn found an interested reason to get Vi out. We don’t get to see Vi in prison because it is literally a time out. It’s not her life she’s living during this time skip, it’s just her being removed for years and having no control over it.

When she gets out, she eats because it’s an earthy thing, and she was in the air all this time. She reclaims, not even her life, but just a life. This is why it is very important that we see her eat, because it shows us how she feels like she can finally move around and have an impact on the world. She is back.

At first she says to Caitlyn that she brought them here simply so that she could eat, basically to express to her that she is not going to just be used yet again by a Piltie, no, she’s here to reclaim something too and Caitlyn doesn’t have a choice in letting her have that or not, because Vi, as someone who grew up in the Undercity, is more adequate for this quest. 

And then she gets the tip from Jericho.

Food is connection, both to the place and the people. Vi eats because that’s what you do when you get home.

And she does it like a pig because she knows that’s not what a Piltie does, and she’s definitely not here to please Pilties.

Silco

Silco does not eat. He is a “kingpin”, he is very close to a classical tragedy figure (I mean… Agamemnon and Iphigenia… That’s his conflict). But he also has a mug painted by Jinx on his desk, with a lid and all, for coffee and stuff. But we don’t see him use it (sadly). He only drinks alcohol, which is akin to tobacco: not necessary to live, on the contrary, especially for tobacco which feels the lungs with noxious smoke when there is already so much suffocating people in the Undercity; when a character takes to it, it’s a symbol of being rich and/or powerful in the Undercity. 

So, with the painted by Jinx mug, the earthy thing is here, but Silco decides to not be seen using it. It’s here and not here. And that’s because it’s precisely Silco’s story: It’s him trying to be all but a deity, the founder of Zaun, and fatherhood creeping up on him whether he wants it or not, to the point of him choosing to be a dad with a child instead of a divinity at the head of a city. He doesn’t want to be earthy, because to bring a city towards its independence you probably need to be more than human, but he is earthy and human in the end.

Jayce (and Powder)

In episode 1, Jayce had left two sandwiches on his desk next to his dangerous forbidden work. It has tomatoes and lettuce, it's fresh. It’s a sign of how easy he has it at this time, because he can just leave food around his work, food is not precious, he doesn’t need to eat it right away. Then Powder comes into the room, and she’s starving, so her eyes light up to what is a random sandwich to Jayce, but an out of ordinary meal for her. 

And Powder eats, because at this time of the story she is just a child playing around. She is being earthy. She is not concerned by all the stakes yet, she lives the life of a human (we can't exactly say the same about Jinx, who is more akin to a spirit).

There is also very much a thing to say about how Jayce puts his stuff on his desk, and then Powder/Jinx takes it for herself. She did the same with Hextech. (Though, I note that Powder took a bite from the sandwich and didn’t say anything to the others, she didn’t share. While we can argue that her stealing Hextech is helping Zaun, she’s kind of sharing the power with her community. And I’m just here wondering…: Why didn’t Powder share the food? What does this mean about her? Was this done intentionally to say that she’s always been on the selfish side?)

Caitlyn

Caitlyn is nicknamed “Cupcake”. We don’t see her eat, but we see her being called the food. I see it as a way to make us feel how rich and privileged she is, and how Vi feels that and tries to make Caitlyn feels that too. I mean, of course “Cupcake” is a sweet nickname, and the most important meaning is that Vi likes Caitlyn (and also that it can be a reference to one of Caitlyn’s abilities in LoL), but still, a cupcake is a cupcake: a frivolous pastry. A cupcake is not food you get to survive, it’s something you can go without but you get it because it’s yummy. It’s superfluous, but someone from Piltover can afford them regularly. And Caitlyn is beyond that, she is the cupcake. She is a symbol of being rich. And people in the Undercity would want to eat her, but also Vi wants her for other reasons now…

Powder 2

In the « Enemy » clip, Powder plays with her food but does not eat it. She is distracted, and to me it feels like another sign of her being meant to turn into Jinx, a character straight from a tragedy. Something more akin to a deity or spirit of rebellion rather than a little sister. (The clip is all about the seeds of Jinx in Powder, which is why I feel like it is relevant to analyze that scene as one too.)

In the last episode, Jinx brings a cupcake to the table, with the gemstone she stole on top of it. And omg does it bear meanings.

First of all, there is the fact that there is only one cupcake when she invited 3 guests (Vi, Caitlyn, Silco), along with her two brothers who are always with her, maybe we can even count Vander since she did put a plate for him, and herself. With seven people and only one cupcake, we have to wonder: who is going to have the cake? This brings so much tension to the scene: all the people around the table, and only one prize that they have to fight over… And the twist is that no one wants the same thing (Vi wants Powder, Silco wants Jinx, Caitlyn wants the gemstone), and yet they can’t share anything.

Second, the fact that it is a cupcake. Of course it’s a cupcake. Because Vi calls Caitlyn "Cupcake", and it’s all about Jinx wanting Vi to choose her, her zaunite little sister, over her shining new topsider enforcer of a girlfriend. To Jinx, Caitlyn “Cupcake” is a big problem, and that is why she is going to put it on the table.

Third, she put the gemstone on top of the icing. And, visually, that’s what immediately tells us that the stakes are very high, and that we’re very much talking about both the past (the gemstone that killed Jinx and Vi's family) and the future (the key to 'progress' stolen on Progress Day), what we can keep from before and what’s going to have to happen next from that. Also, it feels very irreverent that Jinx puts the symbol of progress on a cute pastry. She is not scared of dirtying what is both a treasure, leverage, power, a weapon, … The gemstone is so much, and Jinx puts it into cream because she can. Because she wants to question it. Because she wants to be the one who decides what is going to happen with the gem. She makes a display of how this moment is a turning point, and how she is the one who is going to decide where we’re going from here. Basically, what is so scary about that episode is how much power Jinx has into her hands, next to how emotional and affected she is by every single word and eye twitch she gets from her guests.

Also, I might be seeing too much into it, maybe, but I still think that the reference is relevant: the cupcake with a gemstone on it is a pomegranate.

It does look like it: the gemstone is visually akin to a blue pomegranate berry, and it is on a cupcake that serves as the husk of an actual pomegranate that holds its berries. With the differences that in Jinx’s tea party the cupcake is the less important because it’s edible while the stakes are less about who is going to get food and more about who is going to leave with the gem of power, while in the pomegranate mythology it’s straight about whether you eat it or not, so the berries are the most important because they are edible (Persephone). 

Also, in ancient Greek mythology, the pomegranate is related to death. It’s “the fruit of the dead”. And for Jinx, those magical stones are definitely all about death, since that is what she killed all her family with, whole family that she invited at her table. There is just this vibe around her gemstone crowned cupcake that I feel is the same around the pomegranates in mythology. It’s all about death, choosing to eat, staying underground (Persephone spending time in the underworld, Jinx shooting to make the Undercity an independent Zaun, Vi choosing Topside if we refer to her LoL affiliation). It's all very much about choosing underground/aboveground, and staying with the dead or not.

And the gemstone is only one berry while there are always several in the pomegranate, but I would say that that’s precisely because what is at stake with the tea party is choosing a person over another (Vi choosing between Jinx and Caitlyn, Jinx choosing between Silco and Vi, Jinx choosing to be Jinx or Powder) in a case where one choice has to exclude the other. So it’s a pomegranate with only one grain, and that is what makes us go even more « oh no… », because it's all about choosing, and we know that the ending cannot not be a tragedy for at least one character (joke’s on us, it ends up being a tragedy for absolutely everyone ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ).

TLDR: Arcane is a tragedy, Vi tries to get out of it by eating greasy food with her fingers while Silco says he’d never do that while doing that, and then Jinx puts one single pomegranate cupcake on a table with seven people around it and waits for them to fight for it, but they all bicker about other stuff than the food she baked herself, so she judges that no one is deserving of it and she destroys the world as a logic consequence. Arcane is all about how easy yet complicated it is to eat.

Rewatched the tea party scene, and the fact that Jinx’s monologue to Vi only now registers to me (don’t know why or how it didn’t before)

‘Silco thinks he made Jinx, with all his rants’ etc. Silco thinks that he is what made Jinx, Jinx. Silco thought he had successfully supplanted Vi as Jinx’s primary motivation for what she did, but Jinx claims that is not true.

Jinx claims that Vi “was always there. Pushing me.” which I interpret in several simultaneous ways. As a torment, as a motivator, as a comfort, as a frustrating out-of-reach ideal she could never hope to match.

Vi was also there for when “all the colors turned black”. Silco was there for the meltdowns, the spiralling, the panic and chaos that would crop up from time to time, but as for the silent despair? It seems that Silco was not immune to the unfortunate tendency where those close to a depressed person do not pick up on that person’s suffering. Not out of negligence, apathy, or ineptitude, but because those who suffer from the sort of despair Jinx describes do so behind a very tight fitting happy mask, and in a small way you want to believe that the pain someone feels is not as bad as it really is. It’s okay, it’s fixable, it is not a pervasive state of existence but a temporary phenomenon.

In a roundabout ironic sense, Silco fulfilled his role as a father very well by being blind to his child’s suffering. And like a father often does, he misunderstands his daughter’s problem. He tries to mould it and liken it to something he can understand in order to apply his solution, which is a VERY Dad thing to do. The difference between Vander and Silco and Vi and Powder is the exact circumstances of betrayal. Vander tried to actively kill Silco, a man he considered a comrade and brother. Vi in an understandable fit of rage left Powder. A direct murder attempt v. abandonment will not have the same trauma attached to it. The betrayal of one’s trust vs. forsaking unconditional love.

And Jinx held no illusions that Silco was responsible for Vander’s death, ultimately, at the end of the day. She accused him of it. She knows what he is. (One could make an argument as to whether she has always felt this way toward Silco and just put it aside, or if the clash of Vi + Caitlyn, Silco, and the shimmer amplified subconscious ideas and pieces finally fit together so that she could finally make sense of the cosmic stew of her feelings)

But she had had no one else. Silco was right there. He raised her, cared for her, so what other choice did she have? Deny herself of those things because of who was giving them to her?

There is also the ambiguity of Vi saying “We can go” while Jinx is threatening Caitlyn. Vi doesn’t make clear if she means [Jinx and Vi] can go, or [Caitlyn and Vi].

I like to think that Jinx’s voices pointed that out to her and teased her with ‘your sister means her and the enforcer, not you.’

Uggggh there is so much happening. So many strings and loyalties tied to Jinx’s heart.

I'm so easily persuaded to ramble so here you have it: The speech on how Vi is actually very smart.

Ok I wanna preface this by saying that I know this way of thinking probably also stems from the way a lot of people see more masculine women. But it just doesn’t feel like it’s my place to comment on that so I’m keeping this strictly a character analysis of Vi. 

Anyway, let’s get started. 

Right off the bat, I think one thing that does Vi a bit of a disservice when it comes to the way fans see her is the way she’s surrounded by a lot of characters that are what would traditionally be seen as intelligent. Most obvious example, Jinx. She’s very smart and her biggest strength is how inventive she is with the tools at her disposal (heck ,even Viktor comments on it while disabling her bomb). Ekko is pretty much in the same boat as Jinx, only with vastly differing results. Another big example, Caitlyn. She’s basically the Sherlock Holmes of League and has a very investigative mind despite the naivety that her upbringing comes with. Which makes perfect sense for her character. 

But even characters that Vi isn’t often associated with, but we all know that the show is full of parallels and foils so even if the characters themselves don’t even know each other, there’s always connection. You have JAyce and Viktor, who are your typical straight As academy students and inventors. Mel, who’s a political and economical genius. Heimerdinger… well him. You get my point. 

Vi is very different from these characters. 

Her intelligence lies in more… practical (?) skills that she just had to get good at in order to survive. (Side point, we almost never see Vi in a situation where she’s not acting in order to survive or protect the people around her so that’s also something to keep in mind.) She knows her way around people very well and is a natural leader (see the way she knew where to look for information the moment she stepped out of prison, aka to Jericho and Babette, or the way she went to Jayce after the council meeting bc she knew he was the way to get something done about Silco). She has hella street smarts, which I don’t think needs elaborating. 

What she lacks, which seems to be what people are looking at the most for some reason, is the academic education. Which makes perfect sense? However I hope I don’t have to wax poetic about how school isn’t the end all be all of someone’s intelligence. But while I’m at it, I will say that I highly doubt she’s downright illiterate. She and her siblings may not have had the chance to go to school, but I don’t believe Vander didn’t at least teach them basic stuff. 

The second Big Point that I wanna make is that I don’t think she’s nearly as impulsive as everyone seems to think. She acts impulsive in certain situations, but I feel like that’s usually in situations that force her hand in a way. Which is realistic. We all have those moments where we would act in ways that are unusual to who we really are. But either way, moving on to some examples. 

Firstly, to get this out of the way: Vi parkouring off a cliff with a stab wound when she can barely stand by herself. Yup. Dumb decision. I’ll admit, the jokes about it are hella funny. BUT. For all Vi knew she was very close to just bleeding out and dying. And she wanted to lay down and do that in the last place that held some familiarity to her, since the only other place that fit in that category was The Last Drop which… yeah (another proof to this is how she didn’t even try to get help since there’s no way her old home was closer to where she fought Sevika than, say, the brothel. So Vi really was just ready to die there). 

Secondly, her fighting Sevika. Sevika is straight up a big outlier in the way Vi acts because Vi has a strong sense of loyalty and therefore a deep hatred for those she deems traitors. To Vi, Sevika is practically that friend from middle school that turned on you to hang out with the popular kids and then became a bully. You may be a pacifist now but no matter what you’d still drop anything and throw hands if you saw them. But dial it up to like a thousand. 

On the flip side however, you can see Vi being quite strategy oriented. Which, again, natural leader so go figure. 

She planned the robbery to Jayce’s lab and, were it not for the explosion, it might have worked out too. During the act 1 finale you can see her being more than capable of taking lead in and adapting to stressful situations. At the brothel, she gives Caitlyn a fake lead to make sure she’s out of the way but at the same time safe while she went after Sevika. Down in the fissures when Silco went after them, she keeps him monologuing while figuring out what Caitlyn is doing behind her and then turning her back to fighting Silco in order to get away. Again, her going to Jayce because she recognized him as the perfect means to an end (aka taking down Silco by chipping away at the thing that gives him power, Shimmer). 

This is getting a little long and rambly and I kinda suck at rgumenting my points so I’ll wrap it up here but yeah. Vi is incredibly clever and people don’t give her half the credit she deserves for it.

☆ 𝐕𝐈 – Doesn't care, like for real. Boobs are boobs to her, no discrimination here. She loves them either way and she's touchy and pervy. She's Vi c'mon now.

Vi stares a lot, if you're her s/o you better like being watched because sometimes she'll just gaze at you with a dopey smile. And she loves staring at your chest too, right down your shirt and is very unapologetic about it. Doesn't care at all.

I headcanon Vi to love skin to skin contact but not admit it often and so laying shirtless with you is a habit and she'll tend to just circle your boobs, just the very light swell or outline of them. Sometimes she'll just put both her hands over them to 'keep them safe'. Loves that they fit right in her palms, its her way of saying you're meant to be.

Likes to come up and just set her hands on your chest, just resting them there. Waist? No! Boobs. They just fit so perfectly because of their size.

But Vi will lay on top of you shirtless, and loves when you wear cutouts tops that show off your skin right around those areas. Especially when you wear special shirts that draw attention to that area, she thinks you look so hot.

I am gonna start with explaining why Scotty first, simply because they are the outlier if we go by fandom." Vi pursed her lips and ruffled a hand through her magenta bangs.

"Scotty - or as their URL on Tumblr says @countlessrealities - has been one of Miss T's oldest roleplaying partners and buddies", Vi explained, "They have been rping together since Miss T's Good Omens' days, so that's at least a couple years by now. During that time, Miss T tried out many different fandoms and muses and Scotty was always by her side. For Miss T, that is a sign of a good friendship.

"On the rp related note, Miss T also just likes how Scotty writes. Even if she does not know much about Rick and Morty, she can appreciate the passion and creativity, Scotty puts into their work. Much like Miss T, Scotty is a storyteller and world builder. Those are traits, she really likes in a writer. And Scotty is very good at depicting the unique quirks - including speech patterns - in their characters. Plus Rick and Morty just create a very unique rping dynamic by being who they are. Sure, getting used to them takes a bit, but you gotta appreciate the nuances, Scotty pulls off."

She flexed her fingers and tested the puffer effect of her Atlast gauntlets. Vi admitted: "I can't blame her for it though. Miss T put a lot of work into the way her Zaun affects all of us. She became very protective over it due to this. So the fact that she allowed Bli to suggest things and found them fitting... Again, that just shows that Bli knows what Miss T is going for. Something, she deeply appreciates."

"Outside of that, Miss T also is in awe at Bli's writing. She loves how detailed and varied it is. She adores how layered each of Bli's characters is. My sister has grown ridiculously attached to Bli's Silco, much to my chagrin. I can't fault her for it though. After Miss T got ousted, she very much didn't have a proper Silco for my sister, so the fact that Bli began writing that two-faced asshole makes her very happy. Just as Miss T's Silco clearly has affections for Bli's Jinx. At least, Ekko has his head in the right spot. If he ain't high on Shimmer."

Vi's smile merged into a chuckle as she admitted: "Panda, whom you know as @ferinehuntress, share a history together and that shows a lot. They have been through some quite rough bullshit and they were each other's rocks through some really turbulent times. Those experiences glued them stronger together than most roleplay partners. I ain't exaggerating when I say that Panda is one of Miss T's best friends on this side and they are incredibly close for an online friendship."

Vi's eyes drifted into the distance as she recounted: "Miss T was originally drawn to Panda because of how well she wrote. Her writing style made Miss T really excited, even if back then, she didn't care much for Caitlyn. I am not sure who followed whom first, but Miss T actually allowed me to get to know a Caitlyn. I am not exaggerating when I say that without Panda and her Cupcake, I wouldn't even really be here. Sure, I may have been a muse, but I would have been not nearly as strong as I am nowadays. Plus, Panda got Miss T excited about shipping me and Cait. Which is pretty unusual as she is more a fan of toxic and dark ships."

"Panda's world-building is no small feat", Vi concluded, "They have some of the most creative lore and headcanons the Mun has ever seen. Their Piltover is very much what Miss T envisions nowadays whenever she thinks about Piltover. It ties into her version of Zaun far too well. That amazing world-building is backed up by characters, which are just as complex and nuanced and beautifully constructed. Miss T can talk with Panda about so many creative things and she never gets tired of it."

Would you like to see Caitlyn call Vi “my love” as a nod to Vi’s “my hero” scene, or would that be too on the nose for your liking?

Wonderful question!

For some added context, I am particularly partial to this ask because for a long time now I've held the idea that, in Arcane, Vi is The Lover Archetype and Caitlyn is The Hero Archetype. I've even done a voice recording on the subject, which I'll link below.

Essentially, I consider Vi's "My hero" line to be a delightfully "on the nose" nod to Caitlyn's archetype, ripping it right out of the subtext. It comes across to me as the writers having a playful moment with the audience.

To your question: I love the idea of Caitlyn saying something to Vi that meets like-for-like, calling out Vi's archetype. The thing is, though, I think she already has.

I believe Caitlyn's "You have a good heart" line is actually the companion to Vi's "My hero" line. Caitlyn, of course, is not the only person to have said this to Vi; Vander says it to her first. But here, both Vander and Caitlyn, Vi's protectors, note (in not so many words) that Vi leads with the heart.

Rather, she leads with love.

Everything Vi does, every action she takes, is driven by love. Not every action is well-guided, of course, but if we follow the threads of her behavior backwards, we will always return to love. This aspect of her characterization contributes to what I like to think of as her "rational irrationality." Not everything she does makes sense until you internalize the true source of her motivations: she's heart-led.

She's The Lover.

Would I like to see Caitlyn call Vi "love" or "my love"? Yes, though for reasons that have more to do with me enjoying their romance. I don't know that I'd consider this the "literary answer" to Vi's "My hero" line. Perhaps if Caitlyn were to point out to "All you do is love people" I might consider that a fitting callback, but I don't think we will get something so direct.

(In fact, I think the "My hero"/"You have a good heart" lines might actually be an intentional inversion of Vi and Caitlyn's typical communication styles, where Vi is indirect and Caitlyn is direct. But I digress.)

In the end, I suppose I'd welcome any and all allusions to their archetypes. I adore how complementary they are as characters, and I'm thrilled that Arcane subverts the usual tropes by having one of the two main protagonists be The Lover instead of The Hero (related: I believe Powder/Jinx is The Innocent/Outlaw). I'm very interested to see how Vi's "Lover's Journey" plays out in S2.

Change the World, Chapter 36!

The airship took off with a jolt that rattled Viktor into Jayce who caught him without comment. The two of them stood, shoulder to shoulder, watching Piltover and Zaun vanish beneath them. 

Despite himself, Viktor let out a small cry and pointed to the part of the Pilt where the two cities met. Jayce followed his finger with a quizzical look. 

“There! I used to play there,” he said, a little embarrassed at his own excitement.

“Huh. It looks…small,” Jayce said, and Viktor wondered if he meant something else.

“It all looks small. We are up very high now.”

“Yeah, I guess so,” Jayce said in a faraway voice before turning to Viktor with a grin. “Think you can see your place from here?” 

“Well, I see the Academy, so I presume so. Can you see your penthouse?” Viktor teased.

Jayce had moved into a palatial apartment a few months ago. He’d been a little sheepish about it since Viktor had visited and claimed that his entire apartment could fit in the living room. It was an exaggeration, but not a big one.

“It’s not a penthouse. There’s two floors above me. And not all of us want to live like monks, you know,” Jayce said even as he scanned the city for his building.

“Not all of us need to live like kings either, Man of Progress.”

Jayce did blush at that. A profile in the newspaper had dubbed him that and, two weeks later, it seemed to be sticking.

“Gods, don’t call me that. Ever,” Jayce said, hiding his face with one hand.

“Very well. Shall we find our rooms, Man of Progress?”

Jayce shoved Viktor gently and rolled his eyes. Then he shook his head, leaning back against the railing.

“Can we stay till it’s gone?” he asked quietly.

“Of course,” Viktor replied.

Day 2, please be gentle.

Caitlyn liked Amy, as weird as the other girl was. She'd just appeared near their school one day, with no ID or records, as far as anyone could find. 

"Amy?"

"I don't understand. Why wouldn't you leave?"

Caitlyn doesn't question her, just nods for Amy to go on.

"I mean, I have given you nothing. I came from nowhere. All I do is follow you around. And you want me around."

Amy Chan, she'd given her last name as, and that was way too generic for Caitlyn to find anything about with her Google skills. It's not like she's a professional detective, anyway, so she supposes it doesn't really matter.

"I'm used to you." It's the first thing that comes to mind. "I like you, and I want to keep the things I like. Is it that hard?"

Caitlyn supposed that the only way it could actually be a problem was if Amy had been a criminal or something, but as far as she knew, everything about Amy was very tidy and put together. It was a little scary.

Amy fidgets with a lock of her hair. "...that's new."

She'd asked several times about names Caitlyn had never heard of and could barely find information about, other than several of them having disappeared months ago in foreign countries. They're desperate, and maybe they're the only desperate thing about Amy. But right now, Caitlyn's pretty sure she needs someone else.

"Yeah, well." Caitlyn doesn't smile. She doesn't really do that. She just looks at Amy with her half-bitten lip and nods. "You're new."

Amy is very quick to learn math, even if she might have started at division. She gets stuck on trigonometry, though, and Caitlyn really, really can't help her.

"Just look it up on YouTube. Especially this kind of problem."

For an irritating moment, Caitlyn thinks she's offended Amy, that the other girl will come running out of her house and never come back. It's not like there's any better place. The foster home is bad enough.

"What's YouTube?" Amy cocks her head to the side slightly, and the loose strands of hair from her pigtails fall over her shoulders.

"...you're weird. You don't know what that is, but you know everything about anime?"

"I don't know anything! I've never actually seen any! I-It's just that—" Amy lets out a little gasp. "Don't get mad!"

"I'm not mad." Caitlyn's tone is still even, like it usually is. She's not sure she knows how to be otherwise.

"It's really hard to tell!" Amy's hands are on her face, and she spreads her fingers just a little.

"It's just what, anyway?"

"I...knew someone who was really into it. He'd talk about it all the time..." She sighs. "That's why. I don't know anything about it. I've never seen an episode of anything."

"YouTube's a video sharing site. I'll show you."

"Sight? As in…" Amy gestures to her eyes.

"No, site. Website. Why are you so clueless?" Caitlyn runs her fingers through her hair. It's weird, seeing someone like this.

Amy isn't normal. She isn't okay. That's all she knows. But she can do better.

"It doesn't matter. I can learn. Please, be gentle whatever–"

"I don't hate you. I never will." She gives something of a nod. "Just stick around. I want you to."

They're in P.E. Amy hasn't known the time-tested "walk just enough for the mean girls not to take note of you" strategy, which Caitlyn thinks is probably to be expected. Most new kids don't know, either.

She hasn't stopped, either. She's outlasted pretty much the whole class at this point. Including the jocks. Her pace is even, and although her face is red she's still going, going, going, like she'll die if she stops.

"Chan!" the teacher barks. "Quit it!"

Amy skids to a stop in front of the mats, then rams her head into one.

Whatever you do, don't think about how the song "Remember Everything" by Five Finger Death Punch fits Halt and his childhood trauma to a T.

Halt talks about how Ferris was the favorite child, and how his parents fought all the time. We all know by now about Halt's tendency to blame himself for things (as seen in "The Battle for Skandia" and "Erak's Ransom"). He probably blamed himself for his parents arguing all the time - hell, he literally said that he refused to tell his parents that Ferris was actively trying to kill him because he thought that Ferris was the only thing they cared about and he didn't want to take that away from them. Even though it was his choice, Halt was a kid. He probably felt at least a little bit abandoned and betrayed that his parents didn't seem to even notice anything amiss before Halt ran away.

"If I could hold back the rain, would you numb the pain? Cause I remember everything."

Something else that is touched on in the fourth book is Halt's tendency to deflect conversations that confront him on his fears and such. It's a fairly offhand note, but it has some pretty big implications. Halt has this need to make sure that everyone else is okay, while simultaneously ensuring that no one ever sees his suffering. He is constantly shielding other people, and feels guilty when he requires that same protection.

"Dear brother, just don't hate me for never standing by you, or being by your side."

I refuse to believe that Ferris was the murderous evil twin from the start. There was probably a very large portion of heir childhood where Halt and Ferris were close, before Ferris became obsessed with the crown. That would be a good reason why Halt only suspected Ferris later on. I feel like Halt would spend a lot of time telling himself that it was something he did that sent Ferris over the edge, and he would blame himself for the betrayal.

"Dear sister, please don't blame me. I only did what I thought was truly right."

I can't be the only one who thinks that Halt always regretted leaving Caitlyn behind, but he knew it was either that or kill Ferris, which is something I don't think he would ever be capable of doing. He loved his twin too much.

"It's a long and lonely road when you know you walk alone."

I know that Halt wasn't technically alone, and he became part of a massive found family, but not being able to tell anyone about the things he went though, and the people he left behind as well as his reasoning would have been isolating - if not crushing - for anyone. Hell, no one knew his real last name or anything about his past for just about 24 years. Not even mentioning the fact that when he finally admits it, he is 41 years old, so he has hidden this for well over half his life, not counting the 17 years he actually lived in Clonmel. That is a long time to carry around huge amounts of trauma without telling anyone who cares about you.

"I feel like running away, I'm still so far from home."

This one is fairly obvious. However, it is not talked about nearly enough that Halt is a runaway. Let that sink in for a second. What do you think of when you hear the term 'runaway' in reference to a child? For most, it's the thought of a kid escaping an abusive household and living on the streets with nothing but a backpack filled with belongings. That was what Halt did at 17. Except he had to go all the way to a foreign country to escape his situation. And the only person he ever saw from home again was the person who had made him leave in the first place.

"I'll burn it all to the ground before I let you in."

This is pretty much Halt's whole philosophy on showing any sort of emotion to people. He didn't smile around Will until months into his apprenticeship, and it took years until he was able to summon the courage to tell Will the truth about his mother. And again, the whole 24 years of absolute secrecy about his childhood doesn't exactly show someone that is willing to open themselves up to others.

"Please forgive me, I can't forgive you now."

Halt still blames himself for the rift between himself and Ferris, but he is also consumed by hurt and betrayal over the fact that Ferris cared more for the crown then he did his own brother, and I can't blame him even a little bit for feeling that way. Especially considering that when they do finally meet up again, Ferris shows no real sign of regret for his actions.

All-in-all, this just feels like a violently Halt-esque song. The pain and regret is something I think his character suffers a lot of, and this captures that really well.

If you made it to the end of that ungodly ramble, kudos to you because holy hell, I think I was temporarily possessed by the god of angst.

Random Fandom Character's Witcher Schools

Had a wierd ADHD thought I couldn't get out of my head: Fuck sorting characters into Hogwarts houses! Here are some of my favorite fandom characters and what Witcher school I think would fit them well. Before we get into the characters, here's a quick breakdown for each school so you know the criteria:

Wolf School:

-Consummately professional

-Probably a main character

-Little bit good at everything

Griffin School:

-Knightly/Heroic in a traditional sense

-Likes magic

-Nerd

Bear School:

-Hates authority to a fault, even in their own organization

-Hotheaded, valuing personal autonomy above everything else

-Buff as shit

Cat School

-Misunderstood rebel

-Untreated mental health issues

-A wet cat of a person

Viper School

-Likes to stab/poison you

-Stealthy Goths

-Loves to study the Lovecraftian horrors of the cosmos

Manticore School

-Horse Person

-Probably a town guard

-Likes the government

Now that that's out of the way, lets get to categorizing:

Gideon Nav: Bear School. Hands down. The Bears encouraged "insolence towards authority" even in their own organization. No way Miss Gideon "Look at my muscles, I try to escape the Ninth every other minute" Nav would not make an amazing Bear Witcher. Also can totally hear her saying the founder of the Bear's line :"You want to see a REAL sword? <boastful laughter>" about her beloved zweihander.

Harrowhark Nonagesimus: Torn between Viper, Cat and Griffin on this one but ultimately going with Cat. They're very similar in ways but the after reading HtN the Cat school fits her perfectly.

Caitlyn Kiramman: Another toss up, this time between the Griffin and the Manticore. Ultimately, she is so outright heroic, and smart, that I think Griffin fits best.

Vi: She was a lot easier to sort. Bear. The stubbornness, the defiance towards authority, even Vander's. Plus the Bears and Griffins have a whole Sun and Moon Aesthetic going on, so it fits with Cait's school.

Indiana Jones: Griffin, hands down. He has a code, is a huge history nerd, and there is nothing more heroic than fighting fascists. Easy.

Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower: Viper. Another easy one with the gothic, eldritch horror meets steampunk aesthetic of Bloodborne, she even has the same fighting style as the Vipers, a sword in the main hand, dagger in the off hand.

Powder and Vi deal with their feelings for romantic partners in similar ways- kind of flustered and repressed, but very sweet

Cait has threatened and will only continue to threaten men who do not leave her alone with her gun. She's GAY gay and wants everyone to know it

Having a pet is very important for Vi- she likes taking care of things, and now that she has more energy and is ACTUALLY fucking happy, she takes very well to being a turtle mom

I'm open to suggestions on what Vi names the turtle Caitlyn gives her. I was stuck between it being something sweet and sentimental or something stupid. Or both. Like "bacon" lol. Or "crush", after the one from Finding Nemo

Are you making vampires cold-blooded animals? Or are they just cold in general? Bc I think it would be sups interesting if they are actually cold blooded animals. So vi's body temperature would mimic her surroundings. Meaning she could handle extreme environments if she works up to it. Seeing as vampires are pretty durable, they can survive super cold/hot temperatures.

Also we can have a glorious scene where Jinx goes like: "Vi? Have you been cuddling with Caitlyn again?"

What are u doing for the werewolf hierarchy? Seeing you use clans instead of pack give me hope for something not alpha beta.

So this actually had me diving into a bit of a research on metabolism and all that, so buckle up fuckers for some biology modified to fit vampires.

The problem with being cold blooded is that these animals tend to be rather sluggish. And you may come at me and say "well Alex i just saw a damn lizard sprint across me back yard!" And well yeah but they're also extremely dependent on outside temperatures, as we're all well aware. A lizard being somewhere where it's too cold will just stop moving altogether, and then if it gets killed oh well. Which is definitely not the case for our vamps here.

Now warm blood also doesn't fit too well because blood has a very important role in maintaining a consistent body temperature. And vampires well... their blood doesn't really flow right. They have a pulse but it's very faint so they can't really rely on that as much as, say, a mammal would.

So to put it shortly, vampires would be somewhere in between cold and warm-blooded. Also known as mesotherms, and a good example of these are tuna orrrr *drum roll*.... dinosaurs (tho there's still research being made there). Obviously with modifications made to fit so for the love of god don't take this as actual biology lol

So they would be able to regulate body temperature but only to a certain degree. It's kept somewhat constant, albeit lower than your average human at abt 27°C, but is affected much mode drastically by changes in outside temperatures. Vi gets cold really easily because of that, and it's why the Undercity is favored by a lot if vampires sice temperatures stay pretty constant throughout the year, unlike in Piltover.

Their pulse also increases or decreases depending on how much physical activity one does at any given time, which would explain why Vi likes to be as active as she is (which would be rather hard were she fully cold blooded). A bit of a brawl gets your blood flowing and temperature rising, u know.

Their growth rate is also a bit slower than those of a mammal, which increases their lifespan. They're not immortal, but it's not uncommon to see an older vampire reach 125 years rather easily. The in-between kind of metabolism also allows them to spend less energy that would be used in keeping the body temp strictly consistent and therefore not needing as much food. Which makes sense when blood is an integral part of their diet (abt 40% -ish) and not exactly something you can find so easily.

As for the werewolf hierarchy, oh nononono no alpha/omega/whatever. I've been slapped with too many abo fics for me to use those terms with a straight face (to each their own of course, but I personally need some eye bleach). Plus it's outdated when it comes to real life wolves soo...

The werewolves don't really have a hierarchy actually. You could say that they tend to be more social on average and seek out company, but they have a far more.... human? approach when it comes to that.

The Kirammans kind of have one but that stems from them being a clan rather than them being werewolves. It would be exactly the same were they humans. Catherine is simply referred to as "Head of the family/clan" and the rest don't really have titles, but there's definitely an unspoken accord of who answers to who. Cassandra would be second in charge, then her siblings and spouses and then the kids.

The Medardas also have a hierarchy but with the military inclination of Noxus, again that doesn't necessarily has to do with them being werewolves.
