These two characters are usually not in the same conversation because they are pretty isolated from each other’s stories, but I talked to one of my Dany mutuals about this and there is one thing in particular that I desperately want to see happen down the line. The duality of fire is such an integral part of this series: its function as a representation of passion, emancipation, and light along with destruction, corruption and death. I think it is supposed to speak to the multifaceted nature of power in general. Jaime’s relationship with fire (wildfire in specific, the most corrupted version of it) is pretty singular, especially among PoVs, because of his trauma. He associates it with Aerys, and then later Cersei. To him, it means destruction, corruption, and death. It represents the epitome of the abuse of power. So what I would find very poignant is the redefinition of it for him in particular during The Long Night.

I am very convinced Jaime will be present: George spending time on him training again as a competent fighter feels like something with a function beyond a LSH confrontation, the whole Oathkeeper and Widow’s Wail thing for JB, and trauma being packaged deliberately with TLN imagery: “In his dreams the dead came burning, gowned in swirling green flames. Jaime danced around them with a golden sword, but for every one he struck down two more arose to take his place.” Then the prophetic weirwood dream in general: “The shades dismounted from their ghostly horses. When they drew their longswords, it made not a sound. ” “They were armored all in snow, it seemed to him, and ribbons of mist swirled back from their shoulders. ”

His trauma is so focused on the fact that Dany’s father used something of such great power for something so deeply evil and destructive: “Jaime saw green flames reaching up into the sky higher than the tallest towers, as burning men screamed in the streets. I have dreamed this dream before.” For us to see the daughter of that man use it for the exact opposite, to repel death, through his eyes at some point would be one of the best ways to communicate and really drive home that duality that permeates this series regarding fire. It is not just fire that is being redefined, but power in general: who wields it and how.

Not to mention Jaime’s relationship with Rhaegar. Deep inside of Jaime’s mind Rhaegar was the “good king that never was”, something he still clings onto despite how much he represses the idealist romantic boy he used to be:

Rhaegar had put his hand on Jaime's shoulder. "When this battle's done I mean to call a council. Changes will be made. I meant to do it long ago, but . . . well, it does no good to speak of roads not taken. We shall talk when I return." Those were the last words Rhaegar Targaryen ever spoke to him.

On the morning after the battle, the crows had feasted on victors and vanquished alike, as once they had feasted on Rhaegar Targaryen after the Trident. How much can a crown be worth, when a crow can dine upon a king?

He rues Robert, and aspects of Barristan’s character’s commentary of who you represent and choose to serve are more subtly present in his story too.

Jaime snorted. "It's not Aerys I rue, it's Robert. 'I hear they've named you Kingslayer,' he said to me at his coronation feast. 'Just don't think to make it a habit.' And he laughed. Why is it that no one names Robert oathbreaker? He tore the realm apart, yet I am the one with shit for honor." "Robert did all he did for love." […] “Robert did all he did for pride, a cunt, and a pretty face." He made a fist . . . or would have, if he'd had a hand. Pain lanced up his arm, cruel as laughter. "He rode to save the realm," she insisted. To save the realm. "Did you know that my brother set the Blackwater Rush afire? Wildfire will burn on water. Aerys would have bathed in it if he'd dared. The Targaryens were all mad for fire."

And because he deserved to die. "I have made kings and unmade them. Sansa Stark is my last chance for honor."

Dany is destined to succeed in the places that Rhaegar was doomed to fail, they have a plethora of parallels, so her reawakening that hope in Jaime in some form too would be something I would love to see actually.

Jaime is one of the characters that does have a very emphasized relationship with Rhaegar and his children. The guilt is very present, other than the reevaluation of his father, it might also be building to something concerning Rhaegar’s legacy: be it Jon, Dany, or even FAegon. He also has guilt regarding Dany’s mother:

And dragons, lurking down below. He remembered the sullen orange glow of the coals in the iron dragon's mouth. The brazier warmed a chamber at the bottom of a shaft where half a dozen tunnels met. On the floor he'd found a scuffed mosaic of the three-headed dragon of House Targaryen done in tiles of black and red. I know you, Kingslayer, the beast seemed to be saying. I have been here all the time, waiting for you to come to me. And it seemed to Jaime that he knew that voice, the iron tones that had once belonged to Rhaegar, Prince of Dragonstone.

"You're hurting me," they had heard Rhaella cry through the oaken door. "You're hurting me." In some queer way, that had been worse than Lord Chelsted's screaming. "We are sworn to protect her as well," Jaime had finally been driven to say. "We are," Darry allowed, "but not from him.”

Prince Rhaegar burned with a cold light, now white, now red, now dark. "I left my wife and children in your hands." "I never thought he'd hurt them." Jaime's sword was burning less brightly now. "I was with the king . . ."

For an instant, the deep red clouds that crowned the western hills reminded him of Rhaegar's children, all wrapped up in crimson cloaks.

Dany is one of the most raw representations of hope in this story, so I would love for that to be a through line with multiple PoV characters she interacts with. She is the fire in the title. Not to mention that fire is already associated with life, light against darkness, very directly in Jaime’s prophetic weirwood dream:

Brienne’s sword took flame as well, burning silvery blue. The darkness retreated a little more.

The fires that ran along the blade were guttering out, and Jaime remembered what Cersei had said.

I don't think MK is worried about being a demon monkey thing.

I think he's worried about becoming LBD.

(My theory below, with pictures and colored text, so you don't get bored of course!)

Now I thought this idea up a while back, when I first watched the Jade Emperor episode (which was probably in Chinese when I originally watched it). And what made me think of it was this scene:

(I think I saw someone somewhere say that there weren't any MK reflections in S4, which is a lie because there's one right here. However it's possible that this is the ONLY MK reflection in S4, which actually ties into my theory because his face is reflected over a skull (and guess who's associated with those in this show?))

Now after a while I forgot about it for the most part, but recently I recalled it, and after looking through some of S4 a bit, I've realized that it's actually probably canon.

Now why don't I start by addressing the conversation MK had LBD when she was defeated, the one they had in the white void.

LBD: "Save your hero speech, child. I've existed long enough to know when it's over." MK: "You still think that the universe really wants anything from... any of us?" LBD: "Don't you?" MK: "I try not to think too hard." LBD: "So it would seem." LBD: "Know this, monkey. You and I are not so different. We both fight for what we think is right. That pursuit only leads to one thing." MK: "Mhm, to destiny, right?" LBD: "No. To pain."

Now, while I've noticed several callbacks throughout S4 to not only S3 but maybe even previous seasons (IT'S ALL CONNECTED) I'm mainly going to focus on the fight in Pitiful Creatures and take a look at MK and Subodhi's discussion they had in Show Me the Monster. I've got a lot of thoughts but to spare myself I'm just going to focus on things that relates to my theory.

Master Subodhi: This is not about the Monkey King. There is something more at play here. Something about you." MK: "Wha-? Me? I'm just a regular noodle delivery boy." Master Subodhi: "Ha! Do you even believe that?"

Master Subodhi: "Although this was the stone from which Sun Wukong once sprung, it appears, over time, it was used to form another. A simple creature with no past, no family, and no name. There is a reason you are at the center of these stories. A reason you can harness the power of the Monkey King himself!"

Master Subodhi: "Who or what you are, even I do not know the answer. But of one thing I am certain. Fate has plans for you. Great plans or foul? Time will tell."

MK: "You still think that the universe really wants anything from... any of us?" LBD: "Don't you?"

(Not gonna lie, considering the perception MK's been given on fate (which is a generally pretty cruel and heartless one, considering how it was mainly in tandem with LBD) Master Subodhi telling him fate had plans for him was probably like a giant slap to the face. Like it probably seemed to him like Subodhi was basically saying "lol you're gonna eat shit kid, hope you like being the imposter among us and causing pain and suffering". Especially considering how the one who was always claiming that fate had plans for them was LBD. To MK, Master Subodhi was basically saying that he'd end up like LBD. He was confirming LBD's last words. Hence the "Shifu Subodhi said it himself" line later, even though Subodhi didn't say shit about MK bringing pain and destruction on the world, just fate having plans for him and him being more special than previously thought)

MK: "You're not real. You're just the curse of the scroll trying to get all up inside of my head, just like-" Protective curse: "The Lady Bone Demon? Tell me, what do you think we are? Honestly. 'Cause I have been dying to hear us say it. Out loud."

(Fun fact, when the curse (which is currently formed as MK) says "The Lady Bone Demon?" You can hear LBD's voice in the background saying the exact same thing)

Protective curse: "Seriously? You still think we're just some... 'noodle delivery guy'? You can't remember where we came from, and we got all this power, and you never once thought, why us? What are we?! What is our purpose?!" MK: "Of course I thought about it! I mean, maybe! I was gonna thought about it. I just... I just wanna be me. To be MK!"

MK: "I try not to think too hard."

Protective curse: "We're just like Wukong. A fraud, a trickster, destructive. Why would our legacy be any different? Actually, no, no. The chaos and destruction that we'll bring upon the world will make Wukong's past look like nothing. Shifu Subodhi said it himself, right?" MK: "No. No, you're wrong. I'm-I'm... I'm not—" Protective curse: "Not what? Some monkey demon thing destined to bring chaos upon the world? Come on! Use your words, big brain boy. Say it! What are we?"

(If MK is worried he might be like LBD, then it's possible that his perception of LBD is leaking into his perception of the person he's also been compared with, Monkey King)

(Also, keep in mind LBD posed as a little girl, tricked MK, and tried to destroy the world)

Protective curse: "Yeah, boi! Oh, that's what I'm talking about! You can't escape it. This thing, whatever you are, embrace it. Embrace your destiny!"

(I would once again like to refer to Spider Queen's line of "there's no running from what she is!")

And here's a little treat for ya, several times throughout the show characters have consistently referred to LBD as a "what". Saying stuff like, "There's no running from what she is" and whatnot. Now I want you to go back through the evidence I've presented (heck, maybe even go back through S4), and look for anytime that anyone/anything refers to "what MK is". Go on. I'll be here when you get back, pinky promise. :)

(Fun fact, when MK was telling DBK what LBD was, he said she was an "ancient demon". Now in S4, MK is wondering if he's a demon monkey)

Now, there are many more references I could make here. But, to spare my sanity, and to keep you from getting bored from seeing the same shit over and over again, I'll move on now, and instead invite you to look for connections like this in the show on your own time.

For my final point before I end this post, I would like to say something. I don't think the concept of LBD and MK having things in common started with the white void scene. I think, it started here:

MK: "It's ok. I get it. It's scary being alone."

LBD wasn't the one to make the connection first. MK was. That they were alike in some way. Here, in Minor Scale Major Lift. A season 2 episode. And the one where he first met her.

And, funnily enough, it's possible that there could be more references in Minor Scale Major Lift. For example:

LBD: "You were right, you know. It's scary being alone! I do pity you."

Meanwhile the episode I referenced the most in this post is called Pitiful Creatures. Plus, in that episode, MK tells the scroll to "get out of his head", and in Minor Scale Major Lift, the Lady Bone Demon "got into his head" so to speak.

Ya know, I think it's funny. We all heard LBD compare herself with MK, telling him that they were alike. Yet, we never seemed to consider that maybe MK actually believed her.

Poorly made rant about Hypnosis

buckle up for some dumb analysis where i'm spewing amateur shit @pannee-dragon link for the tabs

So. Sleep Token isn't known for their incredible guitar solos. Most of the guitar stuff is only rhythmic. The thing that makes the guitars sound good is the layering. With this part, there are two other guitars (and most likely additional synth and stuff added with an editing software).

I think it's cool how the rhythm guitar is litteraly for the rhythm and not some sort of guitar harmony. It works just like the drums. Usually, when we think of the guitar, we think of a melody with chords and single notes but it's not the case here. It doesn't feel the same to me anyway. Also I labelled "chorus" a part where Vessel doesn't sing which might not be correct but don't worry nothing is correct here.

The verse feels like the first layer of colour in a painting. It's like an ambient thing. And for the bridge and breakdown, they are purely rhythmic as well. There is no other guitar, only drums and bass with that.

The sound and the melody we associate with the guitar in Hypnosis is made of two guitars with a tremolo effect : only one for the intro, then the second one comes in with all the other instruments. They sound cleaner than the rhythmic one.

Also. The bass. It's the exact same as the rhythm guitar (but in bass version but it's still the same). III and IV are basically playing the same thing during live performences.

When I listen to the songs, I like to imagine how they came up with them. For this one, I feel like II might've helped Vessel for the guitar. After II said he accentuates vocals and guitar parts with his drums, I can see that too.

I'm not a pro either and I don't know a lot about music theory but I can tell that this is no childgame. Like for a bunch of other songs of the record like High Water or Alkaline, they really worked a lot on the layering of sound samples and instruments.

Sorry, this might be a long rant but those anons and replies you were getting got me going. TERFs always say how trans women are “cosplaying” or “performing” what they think a woman is. But, and I say this as a cis woman, don’t cis women do that too? I’d argue that it’s not even performing womanhood, it’s performing femininity, and isn’t femininity a performance at the end of the day? Cis women wear makeup, jewelry, dresses, etc. usually to express their femininity, but it’s not inherent to being a woman. Being born a woman doesn’t automatically come with a gene that makes you interested in traditionally feminine things or ways of expression, it’s all socialization. People associate gender affirmation only with trans people, but cis men and woman do it too? Men will go to the gym to build muscle or get hair transplants to feel more masculine, and women will do things that make them feel more feminine. It’s all a performance that we put on for society. Cis women get cosmetic surgery to adhere to female beauty standards all the time (even JKR, allegedly) but suddenly it’s a problem when trans women do it?

It sucks because I do consider myself a radical feminist but TERFs make it hard to exist in that space. I think TERFs and I would agree that women getting plastic surgery is actually not an empowering or feminist choice and only further feeds an industry that profits off of making women (especially women of color) feel insecure. However, I don’t blame women for getting work done, because they’re essentially the victim in the scenario. Why would I blame someone who is groomed by a society that tells them certain parts of them are bad and need to be changed? It’s pointless and self righteous, and it only further puts the burden of being the “perfect victim” on women. I feel the same for trans women (and men). I don’t like that we live in a society that pressures people into undergoing sometimes very serious procedures to be more palatable. But that’s hardly their fault, is it? Can I really blame anyone for being worn down and making a decision to try and make their life in a toxic world easier? Specifically for trans women, it also involves their safety because they (specifically trans women of color) are the most at risk members of society, especially when it comes to violence. The more they ‘pass’, they are keeping themselves safe.

It’s just so crazy to me how TERFs can acknowledge that the patriarchy is toxic to women in ways that affect their daily lives and how they present themselves, but can’t seem to understand that it also affects other groups of people in those ways as well. Trans women aren’t our enemy, they’re just trying to survive, just like we are. How can I fault anyone for that?

your point on plastic surgery and gender affirming surgery is interesting. ive never thought about it that way before or thought to compare the two. i agree with what you say about cis women getting plastic surgery btw, i also dont think it’s empowering women at all but i wont blame them. i think the difference between that and gender affirming surgery is that there are more grey areas like gender dysmorphia (although not everyone who gets this surgery has to have dysmorphia) and also what you said about safety in passing! im cis too so i dont pretend to know how gender dysmorphia feels like (i know dysmorphia is also not a trans-only thing either though). maybe the experience of that is because of socialisation and the knowledge that one’s physicality is preventing them from being socialised ‘correctly,’ and maybe that would disappear if strict ideas of gender (and what ‘man/woman’ “look” like) disappeared as well, but i don’t pretend to know lol. i dont want to make it out to be some big illusion of patriarchy or anything.

either way, you’re right. we are oppressed by patriarchy in similar ways, ways that are exacerbated for trans women (and more so for non-white trans women). even trans men are oppressed too, but im not so sure how they fit into terf rhetoric. i think they may just groups trans men in with cis women? although ive never seen a terf come on here and speak up for the oppression of trans men either so. lol.

He knew he messed up. Cheating on the girl of his dreams to keep some stupid high school reputation back in ‘83 was up there as one of the dumbest mistakes of his life.

You and Steve were together for a mere three months in the Summer of ‘83. It started off as a simple hook up, which eventually lead to more. You even admitted that you loved each other.

And for the most part, it was true. Steve truly did love you, but, with a growing popularity at Hawkins High, he let that aspect of his life take over his personality.

You were not one to adhere to the crowds. The closest societal group that you could be associated with were The Nerds. But, even then, you did not hang out with that clique.

You stayed in your own lane. So, when Steve started to encourage you to hang out with him, Tommy and Carol a lot more than your group of friends, you were anything but willing.

Which led to the great heartbreak of your life. A heartbreak so bad that you didn’t date anyone for the rest of your high school career in fear of getting hurt again.

You click your tongue as a young girl, looking almost identical to you, trots around the corner. She looks innocently up at you, twiddling her thumbs as she has a soft expression on her face.

You shake your head, softly laughing as you say, “What happened, baby?”

“I wanted Home Awone, but all the tapes fell down,” she says disappointedly, saddened that she couldn’t get the VHS herself.

“It’s okay baby, c’mere,” you say, lifting her up onto your hip and pressing a soft kiss to her cheek as you walk over to the fallen pile of tapes, neatly stacking them back on the shelf.

You show her the ‘Home Alone’ tape again, asking her, “This the one you want, baby?”

She nods, holding the VHS in her hands, “Yes please, Momma!” she squeals, beaming as her eyes light up.

Momma. You had a kid?

“‘Home Alone’ it is then, baby!” you say, placing your daughter back on the floor. “Go up to the counter and ask to rent it then.”

She giggles, running up to the front and stretching to place the tape on the counter. “This one pwease!”

Steve stands there in shock for a moment, connecting all the dots on how far you had moved on with your life in comparison to him. He was still working a shitty job at a VHS store whilst you lived in New York with your fiancé and daughter. And he was still pining over you. His life was truly a mess.

He smiles through the sting of pain, “Of course! You want it on your mom’s account, right?”

“If you don’t mind,” you reply, picking up your daughter once more so she can watch in fascination at the transaction going ahead.

After Steve rings up the tape, he gives it back to you, looking down to where you had a hand wrapped around your daughter’s waist, hoisting her up on your hip. There it was: an engagement ring.

“There you go,” he smiles.

“Thank you, Steve,” you say, “I’ll see you around, maybe?”

He nods, softly laughing to himself, “Yeah… See you around.”

The sound of the bell ringing again signals your exit as he watches you place your daughter in the back of your car, before you get in the front and drive out of the parking lot.

He was going to ask you out again. A stupid assumption made that you were single. Why would a 25 year old gorgeous woman like you be in the same shitty position he was? You had everything going for you: the looks, the personality, the sweetness and undeniable kindness. Everything made for the perfect partner. Whereas him? He was stuck living in a run-down one bedroom in his hometown whilst he desperately tries to find a girlfriend.

You were living the perfect life, he was living his own nightmare. You were never made for each other, and he should’ve known that.

Luffy:

He canonically has a samefood, meat. Other characters have foods they like and are associated with, but not nearly to the same degree as Luffy and his meat.

He also canonically says the same thing every time he picks up a den den mushi (phone for non fans). Reads like a social script to me!

He always admits he's going to be the pirate king, even at times where it may be better to hide it! He also never changes up his wording while doing this. (Most OP characters don't, but he is the most obvious about it so sssh)

His logic and thought process are considered very unpredictable in-universe.

In the orangetown arc, there is one scene where Nami thinks "don't tell them we are pirates" and he just immediately goes and says it. Big mood for me.

He also never considered that he had a father before his grandfather brought it up to him. That seems like the exact same thing I also overlook, tbh.

That being said, I headcanon him as a big hand flapper. I further headcanon that because of his devil fruit power, he is able to move his arms in ways nobody else can. Strangers that don't know about his fruit find it very uncanny valley.

He has 100% unintentionally hit one of his nakama while handflapping. "Sorry Zoro."

He's also a big pacer. I don't make the rules.

Autism is 100% a known thing in the OP universe I decided. Law and Chopper imply that medicine is quite advanced, so I don't see why it wouldn't be.

That being said, Luffy never mentions he's autistic. When asked about some of his symptoms, he just replies that thats something he does. He isn't ashamed, he just doesn't get what the big deal is. Somebody looks at his medical records for reasons, and he's like "yeah. Didn't you know?"

Extremely sensory seeking. Will do anything to have a new sensory experience.

I have my own biases in this because its generally a theory i heavily dislike, so take that as you will (aka there is not one true take on the game and no theory is "more right" than the others) but given the way you worded this as a question i'm also gonna talk about Why i think she isnt. First of all i heavily disagree with the notion she "acts pregnant" i dont know what to tell you about this one i really dont see it or understand it. What shes describing is very clearly the first stages of ascension (and/or death by insight. What she describes is exactly what the great one's wisdom item is). It seems to me that that theory comes from her describing it like nausea..? Which feel extremely flimsy as a basis, nausea is far from being the one defining symptom of pregnancy lol and since there is nothing else in her behavior i can think of it just feels like a stretch to me. Also most importantly, the cord you get isnt Hers. The description for it describes it as the cord of the eye, the one byrgenwirth stumbled upon and used to grant rom audience. The way i see it, we know fauxsefka is likely a choir member, and yurie whos currently stationed in byrgenwirth is for sure, fauxsefka very likely travelled to byrgenwirth to steal the cord to pursue her research and find her own means of ascension through it. Youre not taking it from anywhere inside her body, she was just possibly holding onto it and had just tried to use it. Also the other part of that theory that i can think of is the oedon rune but that literally doesnt mean anything. We already know arianna was the one chosen by oedon, and adella is branded by it the same way fauxsefka is, it doesnt mean she was "possibly impregnated" it just means she was under its influence and likely craving blood like adella was.

Anyway now to get into why i think that theory is bad, well, look at how many female characters in this game already have the end of their story be pregnancy with nothing more. Either they die or become mothers and it always ends there, that is the highest state they could ever reach. So giving Yet Another Character that exact storyline when she didnt even have it in the first place feels really bad to me. Especially when it's associated with ascension, i dont like the idea that ascension to a higher state means pregnancy. Can we let female characters be just that and not immediately equate them all to motherhood.

The adella and alfred thing is more of a "i cant stand fandom" thing than an ingame related thing, i get what you mean because its definitely been less prevalent lately and you kind of have to see it but essentially people will treat these two drastically differently when they are direct parallels. People will treat alfred like their perfect kind golden retriever and excuse his violent actions as "hes brainwashed by the church" (which is true dont get me wrong) (or they wont excuse him at all and in fact celebrate his extremely violent act against a female "antagonist") whereas people treat adella like shit and constantly refer to her in very misogynistic ways and demonize her for what she ends up doing (which is also out of church propaganda and literal great ones influence mind you) as well as only care about her as a character when she revolves around the player (oftentimes seen as a man). It just really bothers me is all

- Mephone 3GS has slight Prosopagnosia (face blindness/inability to recognize faces) due to his sensors being fucked up. Has a lot of memory issues in general rly due to the same injury. He mainly has difficulties remembering people's names, dates, time, when events took place, etc. (I'm projecting 💀)

- The Mephones all call each other by colors as nicknames. Mephone4, 4S, and 3gs are the main ones who call each other by colors (mostly because associating people with colors helps 3gs remember who they are.)

Here's a list of all the nicknames :)

Mephone3gs: Gray

Mephone4: Blue

Mephone4s: Red

Mephone5: Silver

Mephone5C: Pink/Rose

Mephone5S: Gold/Goldie

(Mephones 6-X have no nicknames due to them being automated guards with little to no will of their own)

- 5C and 5S are the only ones out of the main 6 that don't have a sibling dynamic, this is due to how they were created. All the Mephones before them were released independently and each a year apart (from 2009-2012) 5C and 5S were the only ones to ever be released in the same year and we're specifically built to be companion pieces to each other. They are both married and mostly see the others as their nephews while the others see them as their weird and eccentric aunt and uncle.

- A Mephone's maturity relies entirely on how advanced they are, not how long they've technically been alive. Each new Mephone model is more sophisticated than the last, making them act older and more mature despite existing for a shorter period of time. (Hence why Mephone4S and 5 act as older brother figures to 4 and 3gs and why 5c and 5s act more like well adjusted adults than the rest.)

- Mephone4 and 4S are commonly referred to as "the twins" despite being a year apart in age. This is due to their similar names, them both having the exact same physical model, the red and blue color scheme, and their just general vibe together as siblings. They bicker a lot but they're very close.

- Mephone5 is probably the most distant from the rest. But not in an asshole kinda way more like in a "stressed but wise older brother who you barely see cause he's constantly either working part time or doing college" typa way. He's just a very busy dude. Gives pretty good advice tho if you catch him on one of his break days. Constantly leaves 4S in charge.

- 3gs has seen a lot of shit 💀. Cannot be in enclosed or tight spaces for too long; you can fucking forget it if the light's are off, he would rather die than go into another dark room. Mephone damn near filled 3gs's whole room with nightlight orbs to help him sleep. 3gs is pretty embarrassed about his newfound fear of the dark and claustrophobia, but Mephone4 always reassures him that there's no shame in it. Mephone4 was actually the one to get 3gs out of the storage closet in the first place, so 3gs looks up to him a lot. If 3gs is ever upset or has a meltdown, immediately go find Mephone4. If Mephone4 is unavailable, however, 5S or 5C are good stand ins.

No because I absolutely love the headcannon Philip Hamilton was perceived as a “prissy, respectable, best behaved, goody-two-shoes, etc”, or just a “sweet, honest, little angel” while being the complete opposite in actual reality. Because it actually has some historical backing, if you look at it hard enough.

Philip was still a good student, with great talents, and high hopes. But he was also a little shit, and probably the most rebellious and mischievous out of all of his siblings. Though the thing is, the both sides of Philip are portrayed hilariously; many friends, family members, associates, business partners of Hamilton's, etc, usually described Philip as being a respectable young man, with intelligence, and having the best manners. While more personal accounts show that Philip had a different side to him; of being a rebel, and troublesome.

For a prime example, in 1801, Philip took a trip through Philadelphia. And while there, he was able to meet and spend part of his days with the Rush's family, even making good friends with one of Benjamin Rush's sons. Benjamin Rush spoke absolutely positively of this experience, which comes as a surprise because Rush and Hamilton were politically divided. Granted, the letter is written in condolence of Philip's death, and thus some sugarcoating could have been present, but this is much too praising even for Rush. It is my belief, Philip's good manners and charming “upstanding youngman” attitude won the verbal applause from Rush. And so he writes happily about meeting Philip;

And yet, on this exact same trip, Philip would spend $20 worth at a tavern, and leave the state without paying, which lead to his parents having to cover for it after his death. But what's most considerable, is that in 1801, $20 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $466.63 today. So basically, Philip spent a shit ton on alcohol on his trip, and probably couldn't pay it back, so he left it behind in the state and returned home;

ok we do NOT need a little word for every action in a comic panel. You do NOT have to write poke when someone pokes another person. In fact, you shouldn’t. This is a huuuuuge pet peeve of mine and I’m going to explain why.

This is a bad adaptation from manga and manhwa; Japanese and Korean have mimetic words. They also have true onomatopoeias - for example, doki doki (どきどき) is the Japanese mimetic for “doing something with a beating heart” and is the onomatopoeia for the sound of two heartbeats. Another example is jiro jiro (じろじろ), which is the Japanese mimetic for staring intently at someone or something. Japanese and Korean (as well as others) are chock-full of them, and you see them in manga and manhwa all the time as these little “sound effects” associated with certain actions, feelings, or environments. As English speakers who read manga and/or manhwa, we’ve been increasingly exposed to them thanks to their rise in popularity - especially as webcomics/webtoons. In their native languages, mimetic sounds have linguistic significance, and add value and information, usually conveying a feeling more than an actual sound.

The issue is that while we do have onomatopoeias in English that add value (think bang, whoosh, splat, click; the difference between slap or smack and thok or pow, etc etc), we do not have many mimetic sounds in the same fashion. The English equivalent of doki doki is surely tha-thump or ba-bump, but think: what is the English “sound effect” for staring at someone intently? If you said stare, that’s not an onomatopoeia or a mimetic sound, and that’s the exact problem I’m talking about. There isn’t one.

Unfortunately, translators - who are often amateurs and/or non-native speakers of the original language, especially in the case of webcomics/webtoons (though we thank them for their service) - come across these and try to patch them into English, perhaps for fear of leaving something out if they’re omitted, but they have no appropriate equivalent. So, one finds oneself looking at a translated comic with a drawing of a person poking someone else and having a little “sound effect” that just says poke. People have become so used to seeing them in manga and manhwa that it’s gotten into many an English-language author’s head that they’re “supposed” to be there in most, if not all, circumstances - that everything needs a sound effect, even when there isn’t anything that makes sense to use.

The reason this bothers me so goddamn much is because it’s so completely and totally unnecessary in so many ways. If one is publishing a comic - a visual medium - one’s readers should be able to tell what’s happening by the images alone, or at least get the gist of it. Yes, there are exceptions, like when one has to provide some kind of insight into a character’s mind, or provide context for a situation, or dialogue, etc. But these things should be as brief as possible because one shouldn’t overwhelm the image with text (looking at you, Warren Ellis) - there needs to be balance. Adding unnecessary “sound effects” clutters a panel and adds no valuable information in English, which is a huge issue in comics because the economy of space matters so much when you have so little room. Moreover, these “sound effects” (when used in English) are indicators of 1) an inability on the artist’s part to visually convey something; 2) a lack of confidence in their ability to do so; or 3) a lack in confidence in the intelligence of the readers. All are bad signs, and more than one can be occurring simultaneously, but the third is the absolute worst. I can’t be only person who sees something like poke as a “sound effect”, rolls my eyes, and goes, “Well, yeah. No shit.” This is not a feeling one wants to instill in one’s readers.

The TL;DR of it is that if you’re publishing a comic in English (originally or translated), do not look to non-English comics for guidance when it comes to this “sound effect” stuff, because much of it simply does not translate. Even if you’re publishing more in the style of manga or manhwa. Look instead to comics originally published in English, by native speakers of English - you’ll very quickly learn what is and is not necessary in order to convey information and value.

I got a DM asking my views on "intention is everything" and they said it was cool to share my answer here as well.

I fall in the middle. No, intentions aren't everything. If that were all witchcraft took, wouldn't everyone live their ideal life?

But the opposite of that, to many people, is a ton of tools and shit that I find frankly unnecessary. I hope I can adequately explain why that isn't the opposite of "intention is everything."

If you perform a sweetening spell while your intention is poison, what's going to happen? The same thing that will happen if you bake a cake while wanting to make pie. You're going to get a cake that isn't quite right, but you don't know why. It's still a cake but it isn't as good as it would have been if your heart was in it.

Similarly, if your whole heart, if your full intention, is making a delicious cake, but you use salt instead of sugar, you're going to get a cake, yes. But not a good one.

Many more 'traditional' witches -green, kitchen, hearth, etc.- do magic all the time without necessarily an intent behind it. I'm sure other witches do too, but I know what my wheelhouse is lol. I can let my mind go completely blank while cooking and end up with the greatest meal I've ever made, and it ends up having the properties I need. (Unfortunately then I can't replicate it.)

I don't have to have specific intentions while making my bed in order to get exactly the magical effect I need. On the other hand, if I'm in a foul mood, even if I do the exact same thing, well let's just say there won't be and snuggles that night. I'll have to rip everything off and do it again unless I want us to have bad, restless sleep. This time, I will have to do it with specific intent, to counter what I did carelessly.

Especially in the kitchen, I believe many things have their own intentions. Most people call those associations. For example, basil is protective and abundant. If I use basil in my cooking, I use its protective and abundant intentions regardless of my own intentions. Who wins? Who knows!

Things can also carry other people's intentions. When my husband's grandmother passed, I inherited her dutch oven. I had never used one before, but the first time I pulled it out, I just let her guide me and I created a meal that my husband now asks for several times a month. I think the ingredients I chose were guided by what she wants for us. But no matter the intention, if I had used completely different ingredients, it would've been nasty. And even though I've made a similar dish before, just tossed together, that was nothing either of us cared to repeat.

So all of this rambling to say: intention alone isn't enough, but it is often necessary. But just because you need more than intention doesn't mean you need 9000 "witchy" things and an hour long ritual for every spell.

The newer you are to witchcraft, the more you need specific intentions and specific implements. They're meant to train you. It's like when you first start using a new computer program and you go through the tutorial, and build up your skills with practice. As you become more advanced, you're still doing the things you did as a novice, but you don't even necessarily notice them anymore because it's just part of the more advanced work you do.

what are you theories about how ranboo feels about the dsmp? i must have missed that post

It's nothing revolutionary now (I don’t think), but the tldr is that it seems like Ranboo doesn't want to be with the DSMP like he used to be. That he wants to be less of a George and more of a Connor. My personal speculation (that I won't pretend to know if is reality or not) was that it was, at least in part, a product of the buzz around DSMP members online. He doesn't want to be associated with stans (in the way people talk about them, I mean, not necessarily his fanbase itself) and he doesn't want to deal with people shit talking him and his work like they've done when he was super active in the SMP - he wants to make jokes and content and worry less. I'm not saying this in a negative way; no one deserves some of the things he's had to face and frankly I've always been more of a Connor fan than a George one, but I don't think some other people will see it that way.

The Ethan thing being a bit and his sense of humor and even this newfound interest in dividing himself from his fanbase (which I personally think IS a good idea, but isn't something he's shown interest in before) to me reflect that shift. And again, this isn't a bad change, and considering how young he was when he got added to the server it'd probably be weirder if he was still the exact same as he's always been, but I also think it's going to be a very big uphill battle. Ranboo, inexplicably, has gathered one of (if not the most) "stannish" fanbases (I'm talking about bootwt), and in my opinion they're not going to react well when they realize he's serious about not going back to how things used to be. Not all of them, a lot of people just like him for who he is, but people have gotten mad at him for less and he's gonna have to break a lot of eggshells to be able to stop walking on them.

life update (3/31/2023)

(holy shit i put 2022 i forgot it was 2023?? whats next? 2024?? so weird)

my physical health is taking a severe plummet (i joke that its in reaction to my mental health doing better).

my sleep schedule has flipped completely from 11pm-9am to 2am-12pm. this is a severely unhealthy shift. doctors say my epilepsy took sleep into factor the most and although i doubt this (my belief is that it was psychosomatic / in response to traumatic situations) i am aware that my sleep plays a HEAVY factor in my physical and mental health as a whole. i am still getting the same amount of hours but i am emotionally imbalanced as well as physically drained because the fucked up sleep schedule is affecting my eating habits. i have been very sick, weak, and generally feeling shitty. on top of that my appetite is affected by how many medications i take during the day. note on the sleep schedule. the reason i want to sleep at 11 pm exactly instead of earlier or later [ex. 9, 10, or 12] is because good sleep is based off of the cycle in which you wake, not the amount of hours slept. my sleep/dream cycle seems to last around 10 hours. this makes me think 11 pm is the best time to sleep, and 9 am is the earliest i must wake up. these times can be adjusted based off of new observations and schedules.

in retaliation to these (imo) severe health issues i have set some general goals and are listing them here to 1. remind myself of them and 2. let everyone know that i am still on the path to recovery and regularly working to improve myself above all else. the goals and ideas are as follows:

- unfortunately gained a dependency on my mom to wake me up in the morning again. frustratingly no matter how many alarms are set, no matter how loud, or even no matter how my mom comes in to gently wake me up, i will not get out of bed. i feel guilty for being dependent on her but have asked her to, when available, wake me up at 9 am by disrupting my sleep state with tasks that piss me off or jolt me suddenly: shaking me by the shoulders, turning my light on (it attracts bugs, i dont like it), leaving my door wide open (i have conditioned myself to think that door closed = sleep time, door open = wake time), etc. this will hopefully keep me from sleeping until noon and exhaust me enough to sleep by 11.

- on top of that ive tried adapting to pain and discomfort associated with eating food at abnormal times. instead of eating breakfast when ive woken up, ive been trying to force myself to eat appropriate meals at appropriate times. today was very hard, i had my favorite sandwhich when i woke up because it was noon. it seriously hurt because my body refused to take in any food (probably because i dont like eating immediately after waking or taking medicine) however i could feel pain due to hunger and knew i needed to eat. this sounds little but it was very hard. hopefully this appetite issue can be forced through and handled better as i fix my sleep. ive also asked my mom to buy some apples (granny smith which i eat in slices, and honey crisp which i eat in whole) because oddly enough the only thing my body wants to eat in the morning is those exact textures and consistencies. she’s going shopping soon so!!! yippee!!!!

- i recently tried to apply to a job. i have recognized this is an impulsive decision and i am not ready to take one on. i gave them my name and number and they said they’d call me, but i’m likely to apologize and decline. we’ll see, i just needed money really. commissions are still open and right now although my goal is health, my secondary goal is gaining traction online to balance hobby, health, and gaining money. im nearly finished with my MAP part and im eager to see the sort of response it gets and establish myself online again

- once i establish a better sleep and eating schedule, ill finally hopefully be able to go to a doctors appt. and request lowering the dosage of my epilepsy medication. it’s very hard taking over a dozen pills day and night for a disorder that hasnt shown itself in over 2 years. i only stayed on the meds this long because there was anxiety over transition. im very eager to not be as dependent on medication, and only take medication alongside proper therapy (which i will hopefully receive) for mental health and productivity reasons alone.

tldr

this is a life update of sorts to describe where im at and give you an idea of my availability and energy levels. i am feeling very sick. my sleep and eating schedule is fucked up. i am currently putting much of my focus into personal hobbies, relaxing tasks (watching shows, playing games), self care, chores, and fixing some health issues with myself. i was very eager to be more productive and social, and im sorry if i cant be all the time! soon i will have plenty of time and energy to share with yall.

As promised, here my answers :3 thanks @orphicpoieses for tagging me <3 I'm going to talk about my Mini Steter Bang-Wip "On The Other Side" here (though I might make another post with my original story "The Carridan Constellations" over on @pencilcoreandgreenleafheart as soon as I've done the intro posts I want to make over there 😂)

Inspiration: I usually see something - a phrase/prompt, an image, another story, etc. - where I then go "Oh, that would just fit so well to my blorbos!" and kinda play with the idea/thoughts. And if it's got a certain... feel of opacity, of something more being there and sentences and scenes and dialoge pops into my head, well I'm starting to write 😂 This time I actually was on my way from work and there's a very small coffee shop in the lower part of an apartment building. And on the other side right across a small street, there is the exact same apartment building with the exact same kind of shop area inside.

And I looked at the shops, one completely in the sun and one completely in the shadows and my mind went to: "Oh, that's why it's called "Sonnenwinkel" (the name of the coffee shop - literal translation "Sunny Angle" or "Sunny Corner")! So funny that the other building is completely in the shadow! Light and Dark! It would be so fun if there was another coffee shop in the other building, like.. "Zur Schattenseite" (liteally "To The Shadow/Dark Side"; I had to laugh so much when I translated it the first time. And yes there will be a "Come to 'The Dark Side' we have cookies!"-joke somewhere in there! 😂) or something. With different opening hours of course, otherwise the second coffee shop wouldn't really be able to make any profit here. There isn't much else here other than apartment buildings..." The idea of a coffee shop that's open during the night already occupies my brain since I've played "Coffe Talk", a Visual Novel Game, a few years ago. (It's a great game and available for pc and switch and maybe others? Really, I love the shit out of that thing! It's got such a brilliant atmosphere and lovable characters and it's got a contemporary fantasy setting and I just love it! xD)

And yeah, that's kinda how that Idea started to take form xD That it became Steter was kinda an association game bc I thought about who would run these shops and it would be funny if a person/type of creature (because I always want a bit of magic/fantasy in my stories) that's normally associated with darkness would run the sunny shop and someone associated with the light the night/dark shop and, well, who's associated with darkness more than werewolves and vampires? And when my mind goes to werewolves it most definitely lands on Steter atm 😂😂😂 Preparation: I use Scrivener for all of my writing projects since around 2012 or smth. So I do have my templates and projects etc. So the only thing I actually did to prepare was to start my "Fanfiction"-Project, create a sub-folder in my "Teen Wolf"-folder and add a Note where I put in the photos I made (because yes, I immediately had to make photos of both buildings), and the first vague ideas for the story - maybe 4-5 bulletpoints/half formed sentences about who, what, where, some details (like that I wanted to call the other coffee shop "Zur Schattenseite", that I wanted to play with something moon/night-magic-y thing and something sun/day-magic-y thing, etc.). Otherwise I actually didn't do much 😂 Though for larger projects I do prepare their own Scrivener projects for them.

Process: Honestly? I just write 😅 For me it's usually the case, that the last 1-2 written sentences inspire/prompt the next few bits of what I'm going to write. I do have vague ideas of where I want to go but I mostly kinda write from sentence to sentence and paragraph to paragraph until it feels finished. That said, my process started to change over the last year or maybe longer. I never really edited in the beginning and thus liked to write myself into a corner - or I edited a scene so much that I lost all hope and left a project. Due to the last few years where I participated (and won) NaNoWriMo I finally lost (or at least loosened) my 'the scene is only finished writing when it's perfect' approach I had for a very long while and I'm still in the process of figuring out editing a mess into something tangible 😅 So yes, everything I have on AO3 is un-edited aside from spelling/grammar and the fact that I had to translate the english stuff since my native language is German and I only really started to write in english instead of writing in German first about a year ago 😅 For "On The Other Side" I also tried to have at least a vague plan because, since it's my first fandom event and I do have a deadline I tried to make it somehow manageable for me. So I wrote some very rough organizational notes in my Bullet Journal (like, how many words am I aiming for, how many plot points/parts do I think I will have, 1-2 sentences as summary for each part, etc.) and copied those down into Scrivener. So at the moment I'm just writing down a dirty draft that I then want to edit and yeah. New process and all 😅 Still, most of it is just... writing.

Thoughts: First: It's kinda interesting to write all that down. I mean the Inspiration-part mostly lives in my brain aside from the vague notes in Scrivener and what I told friends and the preparation and process parts are something I don't think about very much, since I actually do see it as 'I just write and put stuff in folders so I can find it again' (the details kinda just... come with me thinking about the project, I dunno. It's all very much according to 'that feels right'-feelings).

So yeah, I'm one of those annoying chaos mongrels 😅😂

Which, for short projects, isn't that problematic, but I also know that I'm really bad at long stuff - but I'm working on myself and growing and I know I'm getting better. Thus the vaguely coordinated approaches 😂 But I don't think I will loose the "I just write" approach anytime soon 😂 there will just be additions.
