Actually, no. She is a "you always have the freedom to CHOOSE" author. Choice is the theme in her books, not mating bonds.

Rhys said it himself, if Feyre had chosen Tamlin, it would've destroyed him but he would have stayed away. He would've respected that choice.

Cassian knows Nesta is his mate, and still, he waits until she chooses him.

Tell me what about Elucien is screaming choice? They were declared mates to the chagrin of both Lucien and Elain. Elain is so uncomfortable around him. She doesn't think he is entitled to her affections. Lucien can't be in the same room as her.

If they do somehow get a book and fall in love and choose each other, fine. But to say they will end up together because they are mates and SJM is a fated mates author is not a solid argument.

Not to mention, it's not Elriels questioning the bond it's SJM writing it herself. Multiple characters have questioned the Elucien bond, multiple times in the text.

Not to mention, it is speculated that Elain's book is next and SJM herself did an interview saying she wants to explore the theme of rejected mates.

Has any character questioned the Feysand or Nessian bonds? Did Eris look at Nesta and ever voice "What if the Cauldron was wrong?" He was dead set on marrying her. For that matter, did Tamlin even question Feysand's bond? He was madly in love with her. And yet, SJM did not write any other characters questioning a mating bond. Usually if a couple has been declared mates, others back off. Seen by Tamlin. Seen by Eris.

Azriel KNOWS Elucien are mates. Has he backed off? No, he has questioned the Cauldron, his religion itself.

I'm just saying SJM writes things a certain way for a reason. She uses a ton of repetitive language and phrases, but when other characters are voicing similar thoughts without even communicating, don't you think it's important?

When the author herself says she wants to write about rejected mates and at this time in the series, we only know of ONE unaccepted mating bond, don't you think that's important?

A part of me feels like it was a good thing that Elain's mate bond snapped with Lucien first and not Azriel (if we go with the theory that the bond snapped in place with Luc instead of Az due to the bloodbane). Elain had just been forced into something traumatic and she was in love with Graysen, she had a whole future planned out. And then thanks to that, everything went to ruin. Whoever it could have been on the other side of that bond, I feel like some form of resentment would've manifested from Elain, even if it was Az.

Now Elain has gained some feelings for Az out of her own volition, which opens the door for real love + making your own choices 😁

I agree because it makes it more interesting in a way.

I'm hoping that Gwynriel aren't friends for now. Even after acosf.

Hear me out! (I've told @the-bookish-valkyrie that too) The reason why I don't want them to be friends already is because I want to see that happening on page from their POV. I prefer couples that aren't already romantically involved. I would've also been content with Azriel being cold to Gwyn because it makes me curious as to how their relationship will develope and I want to see how he goes from cold to warmth. I want to see how they get to the point of friendship and then love. I want to see how they get to the point of sexual attraction, why do they have this interest? Why do they care about each other? How did it start and how does it end? I want to see it all, A to Z, from only Azriel's and Gwyn's POV, ON PAGE. That's one of the big reasons why I'm more interested in Gwynriel and Elucien than El/riel and Vas/sien. Especially Elucien because they aren't on great terms right now and I'm excited to see how that'll play out and who will break first.

We don't know how Azriel got this sudden interest in Elain in the first place. I mean.. well, we do know now and it's because she's the third archeron sister that could give him an HEA. Before Acosf, I just kept asking myself how and why Azriel likes her and why Elain likes him. On my reread, I noticed that when Lucien was more around did Azriel start to have an interest in her. Remember when Azriel won the stick game to Cassian because they both rather wanted to go outside then be Elain's babysitter? Half of their love story happened off page and the other half was from Feyre's POV. Now, there's sexual attraction and... oh come on- where tf did that come from? El/riels are claiming they're already in love. So, Elain and her LI are already interested in each other, she has already found her chosen people (Nuala & Cerridwen), the night court and the IC are her home and she's healing there... so why exactly would we need her book then? Is the mating bond the only problem she has? She will reject it and Lucien would be like "aight, bye". Problem solved.

I'm aware that Gwynriel and Elucien aren't anywhere near the romantic phase right now and thank god for that. I'm also glad that Azriel told us that he wouldn't consider her a friend because I agree, it's too early for that. The bonus chapter and the few scenes in acosf only showed as that there is something between them that will bloom later. Same with Elucien.

And I want Azriel to be an oblivious idiot anyway so...

Wow you have really put a lot of thought in this! Honestly I love this. The only thing I worry about is that they will only get one book for their story. I would personally love two books for them, as I think that would be a much better pacing. What I am hoping to see is CC3 as a prequel to ACOTAR 6. I want to see them interact more, get more page time together. Start building a friendship or kinship.

I am a firm believer that gwyn will be key to helping Bryce get home, especially since she has interacted with Aidas in the library already. She has also helped with research on the multiple worlds theories, and I have this strong feeling that she speaks the old fae language, or at least knows some from all the hymns they sing at minimum. I think that CC3 will really set up gwyn to get into intelligence, which is Az’s specialty. I want to see them studying/researching in the library together, spar together, etc. We already know they do private dagger sessions so we can’t get the start of those, but I would love to see them meet on the roof of the HoW by accident in the middle of the night and just stargaze and talk.

When I get inside the hospital, the halls are pretty empty.

I see a nurse or janitor here and there but other than that, no one.

I take the elevator up to the floor of Lucien's room.

It's been awhile since I visited.

Maybe looking at his wise face can help me gain some answers.

As I start down the hall I recognize a familiar scent, that only gets stronger as I near the room.

I don't particularly like the scent but it stands out.

Is someone else here? Who would be here at this hour?

When I get to Lucien's door, my heart speeds up.

The door is slightly ajar, something that I don't normally see.

I take a quiet step forward, peeking in the room.

I see the familiar blonde hair of Theo, his dark cloaked figure leaning over Lucien.

I'm about to say hi and alert him of my presence when his body shifts, revealing what he's doing.

He's got a syringe dug into Lucien's inner arm, the needle piercing his skin as he injects something into the older Alpha.

My breath catches, realization crashing into me.

'Shit. Vaela was right.'

She had said Theo had been doing something to Lucien every time he visits... and then I think back to that little bag of leaves that Lylah had told me was wolfsbane.

How Theo stopped by that weird place on the way to drop me off at the hospital a few weeks ago.

Now that I think about it, that place he went to was the street name that Daemon had written on the bag.

'Louis Ave.'

He must be getting the drugs from there to... to poison Lucien like this.

Vaela was right all along and I didn't believe her.

I'm such an idiot.

I stay hovering by the door, wondering what I should do.

Theo is dangerous.

He's cruel enough to do this to his own father, so if I try to stop him and he turns on me... who knows what he'll do.

Theo whips around, the syringe falling out of his hands and clattering to the ground, still half full.

Theo's eyes are wide and glassy as he takes in the sight of me standing in the door way.

"What the hell. Why the fuck are you here, Ash?"

I cross my arms.

"You answer me first. What are you doing to Lucien?"

Theo growls, clenching his fists.

"I don't think that's any of your business."

"Y-you're poisoning him."

"I'm sedating him."

"Just because it's not a lethal dose doesn't mean you're not hurting him," my voice goes up in pitch, trying to make a scene and rile him up.

"You need to keep your fucking voice down."

He crosses the room fast as lightning, yanking me in by the wrist and slamming the door shut.

I wince at the right grip he has on me.

His eyes are dark with malice, any humanity gone from his expression.

I'm scared. I'm so scared but I have to press on.

"He's your f-father. He loves you. How could y-you do this?"

"Because he wasn't ever planning on making me the Alpha," Theo hisses, hold on my wrist getting even tighter and I whimper from the pain.

"He was going to choose Daemon, his fucking bastard son."

My eyes go wide at that. That doesn't make sense.

I thought Theo would naturally take the position since he's older, right?

"W-what? But Daemon always said..."

"A pack Alpha usually chooses their oldest child but it's not a rule. Daemon was just an ignorant cunt who was oblivious to the fact that he was my father's favorite. But I let him go on thinking that, otherwise, his ego would go to the fucking moon. Do you get it now? I had to do this to get what was rightfully mine."

So that's where the jealously comes from... but it doesn't excuse his actions.

This type of behavior is evil.

"Well m-maybe you would've been chosen to be Alpha if you didn't do things like this. If you had properly talked to Daemon..."

"Oh God, shut up about your Daemon. I killed that son of a bitch and if you don't shut your little whore mouth I'll kill you too," he snaps.

My heart nearly stops at his words.

He killed Daemon? He...

My heart feels like it's shattered into a million pieces, tears rising to my eyes.

No. No, that can't be.

"You killed my mate?"

Theo smirks, canines flashing.

"He's been dead for awhile, darling. Offed him months ago. Should've seen what a pathetic little bitch he was, begging me not to do it."

My mind is whirling. I'm so scared, so confused.

Daemon's supposedly been dead for months?

I don't... what? Theo has to be wrong. Daemon isn't dead.

I... I saw him just this morning, which means it's not possible that he's been dead for months like Theo's saying.

But... this means that Theo doesn't know that Daemon is still alive.

And the protective instinct in me says I can't let him find out either.

My tears aren't very hard to keep going.

Just the thought of Daemon dying is enough to keep my eyes wet, even if our relationship is murky and bad right now.

Hi Yaz. I saw some people sharing an interesting thought about Azriel and the Extra chapter that left me with dual thoughts, since I like your opinion I will summarize that thought and if you feel comfortable I would love to know your opinion. It is an analysis of Azriel in the Extra chapter and why he didn't plan anything further with Elain.

I saw some persons saying that Az was not used to getting what he wants just because he wants it and when he does he doesn't get it, that he usually has his hopes taken away from him and that he is terrified because following that thought if he wants her badly he will lose her. That he is used to not being chosen, not being the favorite son and nobody choosing him, that the profession he doesn't get the information because he wants it but because he pushes it. They talk that it was not arrogance when he spoke of the cauldron about Elain but rather with despairing hope, because if the cauldron did that he could love her freely. That he is falling hard and fast for Elain but that the thought that she might be taken from him makes him hopeless for the future, that he can't think about the future because it would be hopeless if it didn't happen.

I love that these type of theories never take into consideration his feelings for Mor or his desperation for a mating bond. They always act as if he had never truly loved Mor.

The bond played a big factor in his chapter. We were in his head, was he thinking about how much he loves and admires Elain? Or were his thoughts lustful? Not saying he does not have genuine feelings but those feelings stem from a fantasy.

This would've usually made me "awww" and "so sad and heartbreaking" if we did not know that Azriel tends to fall for someone with the mating bond in mind. Rhys tells Feyre, and us the readers, that a day does not go by without Azriel questioning why the bond did not click between him and Mor. Mor showed no signals to him that she was interested yet he latched onto her with the hope that one day the mating bond will come into existence and Mor will be his. Funny he does the same with Elain and question the mating bond.

And then these thoughts shift towards Elain because she is the "third sister". Two of his brothers are mated with the sisters, why is he excluded? If he truly loved Elain—the existence of a bond or not won't be an important factor. If he loves her for her, then her being mated to Lucien won't stop him but no, he is pissed that she is given to Lucien but not to him like his brothers were given the sisters. Not a good argument to make when you want to prove to your brother and High Lord that you love this person. I bet Elain would not have been happy if he heard his conversation with Rhys.

Let's not forget that Azriel knows Elain welcomes his attentions unlike Mor. Azriel doesn't speak about his fear of Elain being taken away from him or losing her as much as he is complaining about Lucien being her mate and not him. There's a difference.

So a lot of Tamlin stans are coming into my comment section saying Tamlin is not a quitter and all that good stuff, so I will be discussing Tamlin as he has been written in canon. This is not anti-Tamlin in any capacity.

Tamlin does not have the ideal character traits of a ruler. This is not an insult at all. In fact, it is something he admits himself, book 1:

“I’d realized from an early age that fighting and killing were about the only things I was good at.”

“I claimed Lucien as my own—named him emissary, since he’d already made many friends across the courts and had always been good at talking to people, while I … can find it difficult. He’s been here ever since.”

This doesn't make him less than; there's nothing wrong with wanting to live a simple life. But, Tamlin was chosen to become High Lord. And he didn't quit- he did the best he could with what he'd been given, despite all the courtiers not having any faith in him. For someone woefully unprepared for the job, he did a great job, at least until ACOWAR, but he would've had a lot more difficulties had Lucien not showed up. Tamlin had very little courtier training, and he wasn't very good at that shit anyway.

In ACOSF, Tamlin is extremely depressed. His court is in shambles around him, and he has pretty much given up on his own life.

“They say a beast prowls these lands now. A beast with keen green eyes and golden fur. Some people think the beast has forgotten his other shape, so long has he spent in his monstrous form. And though he roams these lands, he does not see or care for the neglect he passes, the lawlessness, the vulnerability. Even his manor has fallen into disrepair, half-eaten by thorns, though rumors fly that he himself destroyed it.”

“You’ve been trying to bring Tamlin back for a while. But he isn’t getting better, is he?”

You're welcome to have your own interpretation on this, but from what I'm reading, it really feels like Tamlin has no interest in ruling over Spring anymore. While he's not generally a quitter, his life has become so shitty that he has given up on himself. I am not sure that SJM will keep Tamlin as the ruler of Spring; he might be killed off, but my personal belief is that she will have him abdicate the throne somehow. I know people will claim this is a retcon, but I don't think the possibility of abdication has ever actually been discussed within the scope of the books, so it wouldn't be a retcon.

So the Cauldron was wrong 🤩 Isn't that something?

And by wrong, we mean it was corrupted by the Asteri / Daglan to create the most powerful offspring. Not necessarily bonds that are of the soul or formed by love or whatever. Not saying this CAN'T also be the case, two things can be true at once, but for sure-confirmed-the Asteri tampered with the Cauldron to fix pairings that would produce powerful offspring (for them to snack on, I guess).

What does that mean? Does it mean every single mating bond currently out there is wrong and created only for the purpose of the most powerful offspring?

No. Not necessarily.

We don't really know where mating bonds come from. The Cauldron, the Mother, etc.

Just based off the fact that Feyre or Rhys didn't go into the cauldron, I think their bond is not from the cauldron. Could it still be called into question? Maybe, but I think it's been shown they would've chosen each other regardless of the bond.

But Elain & Nesta, their mating bonds were only revealed after they were dumped out of the Cauldron. Could we say that their mating bonds were given to them by the Cauldron and are therefore tampered with?

Perhaps. That's a solid possibility.

The thing is, Cassian had a feeling as soon as he met Nesta in ACOMAF that she was his mate. He felt something before she even went into the cauldron. So maybe their bond existed before the cauldron, meaning they don't have a cauldron-given bond either.

Now let's look at Elain.

Elain's mating bond with Lucien was revealed as soon as she came out of the Cauldron.

You can argue that "oh he showed mate behavior and stepped toward her before she went in" but so did Tamlin. Tamlin said stop, Tamlin lunged for the King. So there's no way to discern whether Lucien also voicing his anger was "mate behavior" or Lucien genuinely being upset that Ianthe sold them out and kidnapped Feyre's sisters. Not if everyone in the room also reacted the same way.

Elain was in enough distress and struggling as it was. Lucien did not feel the bond snap and realize she was his mate then. Not until after she went into the cauldron.

I think just from the order of events, it's logical to conclude the Elucien bond is Cauldron-given. Not saying it's 100% true or right, but it's a plausible theory. Who's to say that if Elain & Lucien had crossed paths before the Cauldron incident, maybe Lucien would have felt the same attraction and feeling as Cassian had towards Nesta. Things did not play out that way, though, so we can't make that conclusion yet.

So to recap, here's what we have discovered:

Cauldron = Wrong

Feysand bond = Not Cauldron-given

Nessian bond = Not Cauldron-given

Elucien bond = Cauldron-given

Let's do some simple math. If the cauldron is wrong, and the Elucien bond is technically the only one that's Cauldron-given... wouldn't it mean theirs is the only one that is wrong?

And yes, I am aware, I have a huge Elriel bias. But the Elucien mating bond being wrong doesn't automatically make Elriel mates or anything. It just means there is something sketch about their bond. It is not like the others, and we can see that through the sheer way it has been written in the text since it was revealed.

Lucien & Elain avoid each other. Are uncomfortable around each other. Don't talk, don't communicate, can barely even be in the same room, are attracted to other people.

Did we see ANY of that from Feysand & Nessian?

I stand by my statement. One of these is not like the others: Elucien is not like the Feysand & Nessian bond. And it's not just because we haven't received their POVs. It's because:

"what if the cauldron was wrong" - voiced by multiple characters, and confirmed in HOFAS

"Why not make them mates" - Feyre, when she refers to Azriel and Elain

"Can you reject a bond?" - Again, Feyre when she considers how incompatible Elucien is. "she cringed when she thought of Elain subjected to that... fire"

Nesta observing Azriel's secret, the charged glances between the two

Nesta being so protective of Elain but allowing her to go with Azriel without protest

"death and the lovely fawn" - endorsement from the High Lady herself

"What happens if someone rejects their mate? What if the forces put you to be with the wrong person? It offers a lot to explore this concept of free will vs. true love" - SJM herself, on the today show.

But i thought it was obvious 🤷🏻‍♀️

Structure evaluation

This project was called “structure” we researched and analysed different approaches to architecture and how the quality of light enhanced the look and feel of a building. We where to analyse our images to see how we kept true to the architects vision.

We had to make sure that

• We used the best quality of light possible

• Steady tripod

• Made a plan for the best time of day to shoot

• We edited the images effectively to keep the architects original vision

I think my submission have worked well with the outline of the brief as I planned my time to go shoot and used that quality of light to the best of my ability.

My research help with my editing as it showed my the type of images I wanted to achieve.

I think my choice for presentation help in creating a series of images as I think the images flowed well.

Some techniques I utilised throughout this project are as follows

• Planning a shoot effectively for

• Using perspective, viewpoint to show the structure

• Image layout

I would like develop the concept of using perspective control as I think there’s a lot more to explore

By researching these photographers/image artists , I was able to look at the different approaches of architecture photography there are and how each approach changed their attitude to this subject.

The technique I enjoyed the most was shooting the the images as I really enjoyed exploring my chosen structure and seeing how the light hit and absorbed within the building.

The feedback I received from my peers and lecturers helped me to find better viewpoints and lighting.

I think that the part of this project that I found most successful for me was the planning and editing of my images, as I feel that I revisited each of my shoot attempts and improved on something each time. I believe I also improved on my ability to recognise what I can improve on. I felt I looked at my images as a whole and how these would work together.

Some of the problems I encountered within the project were having to go out at a specific time as the practicalities of me going out late on is hard but I feel I explored and improved my images due to this. I also struggled with trying to get the right viewpoint/perspective as I didn’t have the correct lens.

Some Habits of mind and meta skills I used where Persistence(as I stuck with my with it even when I struggled and work even when I found it hard. taking risks( as I tried different lighting, viewpoints around the building.

I think I could have possibly improved upon my ability to analyse my research further within this brief. I also think I could’ve improved on my layout of my images. I think the use of square on the first and last images, the use of B&W and having similar qualities of light throughout helped this but it would’ve probably been better if I had set all images to same crop and aspect ratio I also think that some images don't completely match. I think if I was to edit them differently I would slightly bring up the whites/highlights. I do also think if I had got the saw quality of light throughout it would of definitely would've helped with the consistency and flow of the images within the presentation

If I was given the chance to do this project again. I would make sure I had the right equipment and chose a building I had that was the right direction for me to shoot.

I do not understand people who continue to insist Feyre is useless and didn't earn her title of High Lady. it's insane because if she doesn't deserve it then nobody else does. it also makes me think about what will they say about Elain if those dusk court theories are right and she and Az end up being the high lord and lady. the feyre hate is just insane and it makes me think that if feyre isn't "badass" enough for this fandom what will they say about Elain when she gets her book

Yeah, i think the issue is that as per usual, SJM couldn't work the magic right.

Instead of having Rhys grant this title to Feyre, as some kind of informal thing, which doesn't really come with any real powers, unless he wills it so, the title itself seems meaningless.

It's not a matter of deserving. It's a matter of SJM not staying true to her worldbuilding.

If the POWER that selects all High Lords, officially selected Feyre, then it would be totally fine. As it stands right now, her power only stems from her association with Rhysand her mate. Like, could she be a High Lady without him? No. If SJM did it correctly, then the Power would've officially chosen Feyre.

That's why we have all these issues with Rhys needing to tell others to bow to her, especially in Hewn City, or ordering his IC to keep the pregnancy issue a secret, and they all followed his orders. Like if Feyre was a 'true' HL, she wouldn't need Rhys. She'd come down to Hewn City, and the mountains would shake and everyone would just know--the High Lady is here. Like they know with Rhys.

The problem is, right now, it's simply a chosen title granted to her by her husband. Like a Queen Consort. She is 'a Camilla' right now.

As for deserving or not deserving--that's a hard question to answer. Firstly, I think 90% of these people dont 'deserve' to have the posts that they have. In the IC, it's all just pure nepotism.

Maybe Thesan and Tarquin deserve their titles. Tamlin? Beron? Not sure about Helion...

I know SJM doesn't care about any of this, so it's a moot point.

if we go some 'Elain is a High Lady' way, I'd like to see something different. I dont want Azriel or even Lucien granting her the title. I'd like for her to become one through magic and merit.

Is Feyre 'deserving' of her title? Yes. Should it have been written differently? Also yes.

Honestly, doesn't Lucien deserve far better than what Elain and the IC can offer him? I almost hate every character by now, but the IC takes the cake for their treatment of him and Neata, and it seems like SJM wants Elain to stay close to them, so I can't imagine the abuse Lucien would've to face if she chose him. He never did anything wrong. He was sassy in book 1, never abusive. Tried to help Feyre in book 2, but was left behind and got violated by Ianthe. Was used by Feyre in book 3, then blamed for everything that happened to her, and ridiculed by the IC for it. And in acofas it was confirmed that Tamlin physically abused him, but no one does anything? Instead they insult him further?

Lucien is ACOTAR’s punching bag tbh.

Romantically, he deserves to be chosen and I can absolutely see Sarah giving them the slow burn and respect they deserve but it will require both Lucien and Elain to grow backbones.  Lucien doesn’t feel like he has anywhere else to go and sadly, he will accept the love/friendships he thinks he deserves. He doesn’t know how to be in healthy relationships. I will always be annoyed with how the IC treats him because like...he’s a good guy. He’s been nothing but helpful and respectful and kind. He has so much fucken potential and I want to see him unleashed. He’s not some dumbass that can’t hold his own. He’s so intelligent and has so much to offer, they just have to see and he also has to work on letting himself be seen. 

He definitely deserves more respect. I love him so much.

Feyre: “You’re insane. Do you hear what you’re saying? Hybern turned my sisters into Fae—after your bitch of a priestess sold them out!” Tamlin: “Perhaps Ianthe’s mind was already in Rhysand’s thrall. And what a tragedy to remain young and beautiful. You’re a good actress—I’m sure the trait runs in the family.” Feyre: “What do you want? An apology? For me to crawl back into your bed and play nice, little wife?” Tamlin: “Why should I want spoiled goods returned to me?” *Rhysand does violent shit and ruins our fun* Mor: “You still certainly like to hear yourself talk, Eris. Beron: “Did you know that while your mate was warming Amarantha’s bed, most of our people were locked beneath that mountain? Did you know that while he had his head between her legs, most of us were fighting to keep our families from becoming the nightly entertainment? And now Rhysand wants to play hero. Amarantha’s Whore becomes Hybern’s Destroyer. But if it goes badly …Will he get on his knees for Hybern? Or just spread his—” *Feyre attacks Lucien's mother like a bitch then gives a pathetic apology* Beron: “Don’t talk to her, you human filth.” *Rhysand attacks Beron like a bitch* Then Nesta stands up and gets every mfing High Lord to listen without attacking anyone because she's a goddamn queen! And that delightful Neris moment: (Nesta) looked to Beron and his family as she finished. Only the Lady and Eris seemed to be considering—impressed, even, by the strange, simmering woman before them.
